Just don't ask me how that huge plush was thrown there

Under the cut, things I imagine in YOI pre-canon, with the ways my thoughts tie into canon to explain why I think them. These are personal headcanons and interpretations.

With Viktor, I imagine his family being high achieving, and Viktor having a lot of expectations on him. And he matches then successfully. But this means his parents think he's doing well, even in moments where emotionally he isn't. They look at achievements rather than looking at him. It's not intentional neglect, they just don't have the awareness of mental wellbeing. He has a bed and food and he's doing well in school and skating, so everything must be okay. It's fine when he's fine, it's lonely when he's not. And it's the first environment that teaches him to match himself to what's expected and wanted of him, fulfilling a role rather than just being.

When he's older, he quietly creates distance. Not cutting them off, but not reaching out. They don't mind. They follow news, and they can show off his success.

When he's young, Viktor loves having fans and being known and admired. Af first he doesn't see downsides to it. And then something happens, as simple as "did you see him throwing the flower at Christophe Giacometti? He was flirting, how cute" - and Viktor realizes his fans will draw their own conclusions and won't believe him if he tries to say they're wrong.

So he starts adjusting his approach. Building a persona, and building walls. Charming smiles that get him anything he wants. Practicing the skill of giving people what they expect. Being what they expect. And then flipping it on its head and surprising them.

If you're focusing on matching and subverting expectations, you're not necessarily being yourself. Any personal exploration of identity is hidden and alone. But on the ice, when he's performing, he can be honest. He can be seen. Because they're going to take it as fake. Think of how Minako reacted to Stammi Vicino - Viktor's earnest plea for someone to stay by his side, well, he's too charming for this to tug at the heartstrings. So he can play with stories that he won't share with anyone any other way, and he knows they'll take it as pretend.. The walls he builds don't allow him to be truly close to people. He has good relationships with other skaters, but emotionally keeps them at arm's length. He doesn't notice he's isolating. Chris and he have fun joke-flirting, but when Viktor steps away from the ice Chris doesn't seem to realize he needs this, isn't close enough to know what he's struggling with. He talks like Viktor is taking away the motivation he's entitled to by choosing to coach Yuuri. His rinkmates see him on good and bad days so they know when he struggles, and Yakov is the only person close to knowing him deeply, but even he doesn't take it seriously when Viktor burns out, so that is still limited.

For Yuri, I think his mother was going through a lot to let his grandfather take care of him. He has a lot of responsibility in that setting, and it all starts when he's so young.

I think, with Viktor being present in his life consistently from such a young age, Viktor is one of the people he sees as family. He absolutely looks up to him, just like he absolutely looks up to Yuuri. And I think he resents the emotional distance Viktor maintains.

He's not very attentive to people in general, but he's the one that explains to us how Viktor feels early in the show. When Viktor left to Japan so suddenly, I think Yura felt abandoned beyond just Viktor forgetting to choreograph a program for him. If it was just the program - he did end up getting Agape, he could have just asked for that, but he tried to get Viktor to go back. I feel like he hates that Viktor went to look for a way to get his spark back somewhere else, instead of staying and finding a way out of his slump with his rinkmates. If what Viktor needs is to coach someone, why isn't Yuri good enough? He's a talented skater and he sees himself as continuing Viktor's legacy, but Viktor chose someone else for that role.

And Viktor did choose Yuuri to continue his legacy. Because Yuuri skates so beautifully, because Yuuri has so much love for Viktor's skating, because Yuuri has drive and ambition and pride and skill and he finds joy in skating, and Viktor wants to nurture all of that into the performance Yuuri deserves to show.

And along the way, he learns how to connect with people as himself. His relationships with Yuuri and Yuuri's family open doors for him to better and deeper relationships with Yuri and Chris and anyone else he wants to be close to.

About Yuuri, there's very little I can say because we know so much. So I'll just share a lighthearted headcanon a few friends and I came up with as a story idea and I just adopted.

I don't share the fanon that Phichit got him into pole dancing. In my mind, he either started himself, or it was Chris - unintentionally. I think they're friends, because of how Yuuri reacted to him in the show, like he's used to him. And I like to think Chris kept saying things that made Yuuri feel competitive. Talking about how it's great for core strength, "but it's probably not your thing." Sent pictures of himself performing difficult moves, and got pictures back because Yuuri was trying to match him or do more difficult things than him. And meanwhile Chris thinks they're showing off to each other for fun. It's how Chris knew Yuuri can keep up with him at the banquet.

I still want to write something for that last bit.

I posted this with my art but I'm putting it on its own.

Things I imagine in YOI pre-canon. These are personal headcanons and interpretations.

The walls he builds don't allow him to be truly close to people. He has good relationships with other skaters, but emotionally keeps them at arm's length. He doesn't notice he's isolating. Chris and he have fun joke-flirting, but when Viktor steps away from the ice Chris doesn't seem to realize he needs this, isn't close enough to know what he's struggling with. He talks like Viktor is taking away the motivation he's entitled to by choosing to coach Yuuri. His rinkmates see him on good and bad days so they know when he struggles, and Yakov is the only person close to knowing him deeply, but even he doesn't take it seriously when Viktor burns out, so that is still limited.

♣️Rocky - His jealousy is very obvious to anyone who bothers to pay attention. It is not less obvious or pathetic when you're in a relationship, either. Rocky will find any excuse to interrupt you and the other person, scare them off, redirect your attention, and so forth. It can become very distracting and annoying, so it's best to address the problem right away. The jealousy 100% stems from Rocky's fears of abandonment - not that he'd recognize that - so reassuring him and soothing that insecurity helps a lot. Sometimes his jealous reactions are just that, knee-jerk reactions that he doesn't fully think through. It's safe to say the insecurity is less of an issue the longer you both are together, especially if you're already a very affirming and affectionate partner.

♣️Freckle - The big-eyed boy has a quiet, passive jealousy that he may not notice right away. It stems from inadequacy, and he believes himself to be inadequate in many things, especially when it comes to relationships. He doesn't exactly have a lot of experience, you know? It'll be a constant needling build-up, though his uh, night time shooty activities helps get a lot of that aggression out. He's very open to talking things over, but you'd have to bring it up first. Freckle would rather stew in Catholic-level feelings of guilt before ever talking about it; but talks help a lot! Reassuring him goes a long way, and making sure he brings up his negative feelings before they get so bad.

♣️Ivy - While she's quite easygoing and not prone to jealous thoughts that often, when they do pop up, it manifests as an intense "my best-friend-who-I-tooootally-have-platonic-feelings-for-is-dating-someone-new-and-I-suddenly-hate-that-person". She pouts, she plots, she makes her displeasure known to you - she just gets an off feeling from that person. No, it's not mature, and she can get pretty catty about it - but she's also only 18~19. If you're femme then Ivy can easily dismiss her feelings as just missing her best friend - it'll take extra time to realize they aren't entirely platonic. If you both were together and already had conversations about this, that burning jealousy melts away to a little spark she feels now and again. She'll ignore it, knowing it's just a dumb thing that'll pass as soon as you're back at her side.

♣Mitzi - As much as she acts like she's above such things, Mitzi is the same as anyone else in developing jealous feelings. She recognizes them at once and just wants to bury them down, it's so embarrassing. It's even worse if she gets antsy about someone being overly friendly or flirty with you. What is she, a schoolgirl? The anger at herself might irk Mitzi even more than the person whose being so forward with you. She can get quite passive aggressive toward them, coating her barbs with honey - and that might get directed toward you if she feels you're also being too friendly with them. None of this lasts long - Mitzi would rather have a drink and kiss and make up. She's too old too ladylike for this silly nonsense.

♣Viktor - Just because he recognizes what he's feeling doesn't mean the old Slovak processes them in a healthy way (like, at all). To strangers, he's his usual frightening self, but to those who know him they can tell there's a distinct animosity coming off him. He's not a possessive type, but Viktor already feels miserable about himself and that he doesn't deserve you in the slightest - the idea of someone better coming along is not an impossibility. Now, he can't simply grab them by the neck and throw them out a window just for talking .. .and that'd upset you. So Viktor settles for being in a terrible mood until you soothe him. Attempting to talk him through it just makes him feel worse about himself.

♣Zib - Oh, he recognizes it quick, and Zib haaaates feeling this way. It's so pathetic, so annoying. He should be the bigger person, just suck it up and walk away, but ... nah. If he's been drinking, he's absolutely going to make snide comments and act inappropriate. You drag his drunk ass aside and he does feel a little (kinda) bad about he acted ... some days he's better about it. It's so cliche, but he knows what he's like as a partner. He doesn't offer much, and even if you've made it clear you still care about him, the insecurities and negative feelings can dig into him... especially after booze. He perks right up after some cuddling.

♣Atlas - He doesn't show it outwardly at all. Atlas keeps his impassive expression, outsiders can't tell the difference, but you and his two closest triggermen might pick up the iciness in his eyes. Eventually, that frost would melt into his voice. He would consider any jealous feelings beneath him, if he deigned to call them that. Instead, he'd translate it as disrespect: Whoever is being too personal with you and inspiring these feelings is disrespecting him. It's ... probably best that they move on.

🏵Serafine - Jealousy isn't something that comes easily to her. She's too free-spirited, and she doesn't like the idea of holding another down. She'd hate for you to restrict her, so why should she do the same to you? That said, there are a few times when it comes up. There are always those who want to flirt with you and get too close for her liking, but ... it's also fun to watch. She lets the little pangs of jealousy build up until you return to her side, and Serafine will tease you for doing it on purpose. There's a reason she likes to leave lipstick stains and bites on you. Note, if you try to incite jealousy in her on purpose, she'll see it as a game - but if you're seriously trying to provoke something, it's just irksome. Isn't that a bit childish?

🏵Nico - Like his sister, Nico isn't one for jealousy. He's inspired plenty of it and isn't a fan, and like Serafine, he won't tie you down if you don't do the same to him. Truthfully, he has much less patience for it. Some may think he doesn't feel jealous at all; but Nico is actually just good at dealing with it in a healthy way. He waits until you're back at his side and showers extra attention on you - it's pretty funny when the person who was flirting starts glaring at you. As long as you're not intentionally trying to get a rise out of him, he's chill.

🏵Mordecai - He's awful about it, made worse that he refuses to acknowledge it. It really doesn't kick in until you both have this sort-of-kind-of understanding that's a mess to navigate to begin with, never mind if jealousy comes into play. Mordecai both feels it strongly and denies it with as much strength. Some stranger trying to be smooth is irksome, but not the end of the world. But someone who has a sustained relationship with you? Who gets to touch you and be close to you on the regular? Nope. He's argumentative and prickly anytime they come up. By the time he figures out what his feelings are about, he'd rather chew off his own tail than ever bring it up.

🏵Wes - His flavor of jealousy tends to come from either inadequacy or possessiveness. If the person flattering you and getting too close is some idiot he works alongside, you better believe his hackles raise and he puts them in their place. If it's someone he can't immediately beat down, or if they seem ... well, better than him in some way, the jealousy quietly simmers underneath. Your initial attempts to talk it out are bust, considering the time period and his own machismo ... but he can come around once you reassure him. And wait, didn't he want this to be a casual thing? What's he getting so worked up about, anyway?

🏔Wick - When they build up, he quickly recognizes the jealous feelings in himself. It's something Wick is familiar with, and dislikes - as if it's a personal failing, and not a thing everyone goes through. Depending on how long it sticks around, he can become a little withdrawn and even unsure. It just feels so childish, but he's still glad to get some reassurances. He insists it's not necessary, but Wick still gives you that dopey, painfully affectionate smile you're used to. He's also someone who handles it maturely, and they seem to go as quickly as they come. They may linger if there's already some obstacle between you two - maybe he hasn't brought up his feelings, you're masc so he can't be as open with his affection, and so on - but he's still recognizing these negative feelings and willing to work through them.

A/N: I adore innocent readers and OCs! I feel they have a way of bringing out the true nature of characters, especially with this kind of cast! Also sorry to everyone for taking so long, I unfortunately have a chaotic and no good life. XD

Jinx

“Hey, toots! How has ya day been? Did you miss me?! Of course you did! Come here, you cute little bunny!”

You are Jinx’s little bunny! She loves how innocent you are for someone who hangs out with her, and in a way, you keep her grounded. You are the sunshine in this dark unforgiving world. Usually she loves destroying things and making others lives harder to live.

But when it comes to you? She is extra careful. She never lets you go on missions or patrol unless she’s with you. You’re in her hideout? She’s doing safety precautions by forcing you to wear a welding mask or staying six feet away from her projects. And unless they are little trinkets and presents for you, you can’t exactly touch them unless she assists you with them. You are a porcelain doll in her eyes. She doesn’t want you to break or become corrupted at all. She’s you’re protector and your lover and she won’t let you forget that.

Violet "Vi"

“Do you know how cute you are? You’re adorable… Hey, don’t hide that face from me, I mean it. You’re adorable.”

Vi is known to be a hardass sometimes to people, but around you? She lets her true colors come out. She’s super affectionate physically and verbally, telling you how much she loves you and cherishes you. If anyone was to hurt you, she’s not just breaking their nose, she’s breaking their entire body. You are so precious. Maybe too precious to her.

She always rushes from work back home just to cuddle with you and ask how your day was. And don’t get her started on your bashful nature, she adores it so much since you only get that way around her. Does she wish you could stand up for yourself? Sometimes. But for the most part, she’s okay with it, especially since she can protect the both of you. To everyone else, she’s a wild card with muscle and snark. But to you and only you, she’s perfect.

Viktor

“Rodnaya. Did you fix my calculations?... Please, don’t fret- I’m not angry. I’m just wondering… What did I do to deserve you?”

Viktor thinks you are make believe. There is no way someone as sweet as you should exist. How can you be so in love with someone like him? He believes he can never give you what you want or need, but whenever you assure him he can, his spirits are lifted and his confidence gets a significant boost.

Whenever you are around, you make Viktor feel he can make all the progress in the world no matter what anyone says. You make him feel a little more comfortable in his skin, which is nice. But even better is the fact that because of you, he tries his best to exercise self love. This can come in the form of taking a few breaks from his project and treating himself whenever he makes a huge accomplishment. Viktor cherishes you so much and he hopes you know that no matter how nose deep he can be in work.

Caitlyn Kiramman

“Good afternoon, my darling. I didn’t keep you waiting, did I? Let me make it up to you… You’re too sweet, but I insist.”

Because of how innocent you are, Caitlyn sometimes compares you to an angel. She finds you to be a bit pure and needs to be protected. Though unlike Vi, her protective nature is more tamed. She’ll prefer protecting you with her words, choosing to ask questions regarding your well being. But if you are in physical danger, she has no problem jumping to your aid with her gun in hand to scare those who hurt you away.

You mean a lot to her and she’ll show you by inviting you to places or showing you the many gardens in Piltover. Of course, she’s not without having more personal evenings together at home, cuddled together and enjoying each other’s company. All in all, she loves you and she’s not afraid to tell or show you that.

Silco

“This life. One of hardship and poverty, is not one that you deserve. I promise, I’ll grant Zaun its independence. For all of us. For you.”

If Silco is the king of Zaun, you are his king/queen. It’ll take a while for you to get close to him because of the locks he usually has around his heart. But if you are able to cut them off with time and effort, Silco will treat you as if you are royalty. Expect him to show you off to those around you, whether it be you sitting on his lap or standing by his side.

That being said, do not expect him to shower you in kisses and snuggle up to your body. He has an image to hold, so the last thing he needs to hear from his men is that he’s gotten soft and mushy. Around them and under the eyes of Zaun, you are just his second half. But behind closed doors? You are more like his life. Just make sure you don’t tell anyone.

Ekko

“Damn, the light here really knows how to bring the beauty out of you. Are you sure you’re not an angel in disguise?”

You and Ekko have a pretty chill relationship. You’re his lover and he’s yours for the most part. He’s not overprotective, but he can have moments of being a helicopter boyfriend. You’re going on a mission? Take Scar with you. You want to go into Zaun to get something? Why doesn't he tag along to help? You would bring it up to him that you don’t always need someone with you, but your bashful nature makes it a little hard. So unless another firelight realizes what’s going on, be prepared to not go many places alone.

Outside of the following, Ekko is for the most part considerate of you and what you want. You can always find him asking you what you desire or need from him and even if you try not to answer, he will subtly find ways to get most of the unspeakable answers.

Sevika

“Hey, we can… Cuddle later, okay? Right now, my crew is here and I don’t want to ruin my reputation.”

Compared to Silco, Sevika is more open in her relationship with you. She’ll tell everyone that you are her lover and in her own way be proud of it. That being said, she tries not to show a lot of PDA in hopes of protecting her reputation and mainly yourself. In her mind, if her group or anyone finds out you mean a lot to her, you can become a prime suspect in future kidnappings or blackmail. And she doesn’t want that for herself nor for you.

Outside of work, Sevika makes up for having to be a little distant with you. She’ll take you gambling with her and if you don’t prefer that, you guys can always hang out somewhere else. As long as you are content and safe is what matters. Sevika’s a good girlfriend, very protective. Just don’t expect her to be super verbal with her love, she prefers actions over words. But do be on the look out for a lot of teasing.

Vander

“Sorry, I couldn’t help myself from picking you up, you’re too cute... Screw it, you’re all mine.”

Vander is a big ol’ teddy bear when it comes to loving you. He doesn't care if anyone at the bar comments on your relationship with him because he will waste no time picking you and showing you off like a trophy. He talks about you almost nonstop if he’s not talking about work or affairs occurring in Zaun.

When it comes to his affairs with Piltover, he makes sure you are nowhere near it. In his eyes, you are too precious to get in the middle of anything affiliated with them. Not to mention, he wouldn’t be the same if somehow you got hurt or worse. The kids need you and so does he, because with you in their lives, they feel like a complete family. You hold the hound down on a leash and he loves you for that.

Mel Medarda

“You know what? After I’m done with meetings at work, we’re doing whatever you want. How’s that sound?... Come on now, love. You have to speak up.”

When it comes to Mel, conversation is key. Which is why your relationship can feel like a relationship, but also like a class. She pushes you to speak for yourself in many situations, but doesn’t force it upon you. It’s not that she hates how innocent and bashful you can be, she just doesn’t want that to be used against you or for other’s personal gain. So if she can shape you up to speak for yourself just a tiny bit, that will make her content.

Regardless though, she enjoys your company, especially after stressful days working with the council. In a way, you two kind of act like a married couple, having an unspeakable bond, but a loving one nonetheless.

Jayce Talis

“Yeah, the meeting was great!... Okay, fine, I skipped it- But can you blame me? Why would I want to rehash work when I could be here with you?”

If you were a dog owner, Jayce would be that golden retriever that gives you a run for your money, but makes you feel intense happiness. Every day is always something new with this man because he will give you a run for your money due to how hyper he is when he gets a new idea. Also he’s very loving around you, wanting to spend as much time with you as he can.

Though, he’s no Jinx. He knows that the both of you have lives and duties to fulfill. So he’ll give you space. But not for long. Just be ready to be working or relaxing when Jayce pops up out of nowhere to check up on you. If you forget your lunch, he’s going to deliver it to you. Forgot paperwork? He’s already on it, all you need to do is check for numerous errors. Everyone knows how you feel to date Jayce; It’s a wild ride, but a fun one that’s worth it.

Mordecai Heller x GN!Reader

PROMPT: N/A

It is going to take a very, very long time to break down Mordecai's walls enough for him to entertain the idea of a relationship, especially if he wasn't the one to initially fall for you. It's crucial that you gain his trust and respect before trying to go for anything romantic, and it's more likely to win him over if it's a slow, gradual progression. He's not going to be the one to ask you out first, either, you'll need to put in work to get him to let you into his life.

Mordecai tends to be subtle and 'quieter' when it comes to displays of affection; he loathes PDA, both as a witness and participant, and goes so far as to avoid even mentioning that he's taken or citing you as his partner. He highly prefers it to be a private affair, both because he finds it to be more intimate and meaningful that way, and he's paranoid that anyone around him could use the fact that he has a soft spot for you against him. Though, the fact that he doesn't stop you from getting up close to him or having any kind of conversation with him tips off the people around him to the fact that you're more than just an acquaintance.

He goes out of his way to avoid physical contact of any kind to begin with, but if you've got him in the right place at the right time, he just melts. He's been so touch starved for so long that any affection at all is like a breath of fresh air to him, and he'll cling to that for as long as he can. If he's exhausted from a grueling day of work and too tired to put up his stoic, reserved front, he'll maybe give you a fleeting kiss or let you cuddle up next to him in bed, but it's rare he'll ever initiate physical affection. He's more than willing to let you dote on him, however.

He isn't particularly fond of using petnames or terms of endearment, but he'll tolerate being called 'sweetheart' or 'darling' sparingly, so long as there's no one else present to overhear. He's not going to tell you how good it makes him feel.

It's important to him that his partner is well-groomed, hygenic, and dressed properly, and if he finds that you fall short in any of these aspects, he'll just take to handling it himself. He's not above washing and bathing you, dressing you in the mornings, trimming your hair or helping you shave. If he thinks your outfit is too wrinkled, he'll smooth it out for you. If he isn't fond of how your hair is done up, he'll fix it. He doesn't quite take personal boundaries into account, he just wants his partner to be presentable.

If you aren't working for Marigold at the time you're together, Mordecai is extremely vocal and adamant about the fact that he doesn't want you to be involved in it in the slightest for your own sake, and if you are working together, it's likely he'll try and talk you down from your position, as he did with Viktor. (Excluding the kneecapping part. ...Maybe.) He stresses for your safety in that regard, whether you're involved through being close to him or directly working for the gang, and it's pretty apparent when he does.

Mordecai's top love language is 100% acts of service, no contest. He takes pride in doing things for you, taking on tasks and chores that you'd otherwise have to deal with on your own, cleaning and tidying your home without you even having to ask. It lets him show him that he loves you and cares about you in a way that doesn't require him being overly sappy or touchy, and he highly appreciates that.

To Mordecai, being vulnerable around you is his way of showing that he loves you. Having an opportunity to be around someone he doesn't constantly have to stay on-guard with is a much needed change of pace for him, and a display of his trust in you. Something as simple as not wearing his full uniform around you or not being as stiff and argumentative as he would be with his coworkers and peers means a lot on his part.

He can be rather controlling, not for the sake of being manipulative or stripping you of your autonomy, but he's confident in the fact that he knows best, and he wants what's best for you. He won't force you into anything, but if he believes you could be doing something more efficiently and effectively, he's sure to let you know. This can fuel some light bickering and disagreements, but it's always meant well- he's just very stubborn about it.

He doesn't often enjoy any kind of dates, but every now and then he'll save up a bit of extra money and treat you out to a nice, classy formal dinner; ensuring that everything is kosher and up to his standards beforehand. It's nothing sappy or overtly romantic, but gifting his partner something expensive (enough to be high quality, but not so much it's gaudy and frivolous) is something that's rather important to him, seeing how impoverished he had been growing up. He's also not opposed to taking a brisk stroll with you.

Other notes: this was a little difficult considering the fact I don't envision Mordecai as a very romantic person, so I hope these aren't bland at all- it's also notable that I think Mordecai would treat a male, female and nonbinary partner very differently, but I tried to keep these as vague as possible nonetheless

Hey [fairly long] little Arcane something I’ve never seen anyone point out…

VIKTOR IS JUST AS EGOTISTICAL AS JAYCE IS!

(And I can prove it)

Showing this is the entire point of Sky’s existence in the show…she was always there for him, there was always another person who wanted to be there with him, but he never noticed because he was always to focused on himself.

Then, when he’s finally an adult, he claims his life’s dream is to “make the world a better place” and that the work he is doing is to help the undercity. But before any of that, it’s “do you think it was my life’s dream to become an assistant?”

And it is worth noting at that point, that Sky is Still There. She follows him all the way to the top, and he still doesn’t notice. Instead he, entirely in his own interest, seeks out Jayce. Someone he has never met or talked to before, simply because his story intrigued him.

Sure, Jayce signed every page of his notes, he assumed he was a moral exception to the city’s safety regulations, he thought a little speech could change the councilor’s minds, he abandoned his work for his girlfriend.

But Viktor isn’t a selfless martyr, and id argue he’s really not much better than Jayce. He worked his way out of the undercity because he “believed in himself,” not in his city nor his family, he wanted to prove HIMSELF. And he did, and it wasn’t enough for him. So he decided he was a moral exception to breaking and entering laws. And what do you know, that wasn’t enough. He kept raising the bar. True, he didn’t go on stage, but it’s because his ego doesn’t involve his image the way it does for Jayce. He doesn’t care who knows his face, but not having his invention shown was brutal to him. It isn’t enough. Eventually he realized he’s dying and immediately decided he would pour every ounce of his life into extending it rather than going out with a bang. He manages to kill Sky, symbolically proving just how little other people mattered to him compared to his own life. When he pours out her ashes, he talks to Heimerdinger, and he’s starting to realize just how badly he fucked up. But all he can find to talk to the professor about is the unfairness of death and the professor’s opinion on his own contributions. Not his and Jayce’s, or on Humanity’s or anything like that. At the end of his rope he still can’t let go of this overwhelming fear that he hasn’t done enough. It’s always personal.

Breakdown of their final scene:

Now this is why I love that final scene with Jayce and Viktor sitting in the skull-shaped pipe above the gorge Viktor grew up playing in. Viktor sees the place he had never thought was good enough somehow drained of all the life and color he hadn’t noticed was there. And Jayce, more afraid of death than anything else in the world, is sitting above a valley symbolically teeming with it. And they both finally come to the end of their egotist character arcs. It’s no longer Did I Do Enough. It’s no longer How Do I Fix This. It’s “We lost ourselves, We lost our dream, in the pursuit of Great, we failed to do Good.” They realize they’ve both fucked up, together. They’ve both been terrible, together. They know that nothing, not one thing they have done to this world has improved it. They are killers, egotists, villains. Their dreams are dead and their visions of their lives and of themselves are dead. Yes, Viktor is dying too, but I don’t think that’s the point. They set themselves the one task of saving lives and all they managed to do was kill.

So they, now changed men, make a vow. They’re going to make it right. Or Viktor does, anyway. But Jayce promises him he’ll destroy the hexcore which I think could mayyyybe possibly mean he’s tied himself into the promise as well i Sincerely Hope.

Have they made up? Yes, I think they have. They are not naive anymore at the very least and are going to handle both their relationship and their respective jobs responsibly and like adults. Does this mean they will manage it? I doubt it, to be honest. If we do end up getting the Machine Herald in any similar way to League, Jayce does have to be his narrative foil, and I don’t think the little moments of going behind each other’s backs and doing things the other wouldn’t approve of + their bridge argument are going to just not affect their relationship. I would be incredibly surprised if the Divorce doesn’t happen. Will they resolve it? No idea. I haven’t decided if I’m in camp Arcane Will Have a Good Ending or Arcane Will Have a Bad Ending yet. Either way, I do hope their relationship stays layered and complex and that they never lose respect and admiration for each other. They are narratively Two Halves of a Whole and it would honestly break my heart if they were to stop being written that way. I do hope they make up in the end, but I’m not going to hold my breath.

Being from the undercity meant their was toxic chemicals in air. Air that caused major illness down the line. Your husband was one of the unfortunate folk who got I'll from it. Not to mention he was born weak and had to use a walking stick to get around. You always found your self worried about what the future might hold for him.

You would spend hours, days, weeks even trying to figure out a cure not just for your husband but for anyone else in need of such treatment, but mainly for him. Vicktor would be constantly worried about your health. You would reasure him that you were taking breaks in between those many draining hours of research. Wich wasn't really that far off from the truth.

One cold early morning, your lovely husband was taking in some much needed rest in your shared bed upstsirs, but you on the other hand were downstairs in your lab. When It clicked. Everything made sense, and you figured it out. Jumping of your seat and hastily taking off you lab coat and golves your rushed up the stairs and into your guys room basically kicking downstairs the door down.

"VIKTOR WAKE UP!" you shouted. A very panicked viktor sat up(very quickly might I add) looking at you with a worried expression "WhAt happEnd are you okay?!" He quickly yelled. Still very tired himself he would groggely look back at you and noticed the excitement in your face. Effectively calming him down. You couldn't possibly contain all the excitement you had about your newly found discovery. "You cannot believe what I just figured out dear!" You exclaimed joyfully.

"What n/n? What did figure out?" He questioned, still a bit worried. You were basically jumping in place. "I was able to find a cure!" You shouted excitedly. Your husband look a bit confused, "a cure? A cure for wha–" he couldn't even finish his sentence before you interrupted him. "I, YOUR AMAZING WIFE FOUND A CURE TO YOUR STARNGE ILLNESS!!" You shouted, tightly hugging him. Viktor was in disbelief, after 10 year of you researching his illness, you finally manged to find a cure.

Tears brimmed his eyes. Viktor wrapped his frail arms around you, hugging you as tight as he could. Small sobs escaped him, he always worried about you. He was afraid of falling in love with you because he knew he only had so much time, and all of the weight on his shoulders suddenly vanished at your words.

His treatment started shortly after, the treatment was supposed to last a month at best. This was to ensure the best results. The month passed, and you finally were able to bring Viktor back home. Viktor was seated in your spacious living room, you on the other hand were returning from the kitchen, holding two cups of coffee. One for your husband and yourself. You carefully handed the cup to your husband, him receiving it.

"I can't thank you enough, my love. You have showed me so much through our relationship and you have yet to surprise me..so thank you for saving me" he smiled greatfully. You chuckled lovingly, taking a seat next to him and leaned into his warmth "Well, I promised that everything would be okay, didn't I?"

-Since meeting you, Viktor’s priorities have changed. He still wants to leave his mark on the world, and he still wants to help people - that’s still one of his big motivations. But ever since you tripped into his life, he’s been wanting…other things.

-It started with him thinking about you, more than he’d ever thought about anyone else. Idle thoughts at first, wondering what your opinion of something might be, or what you were currently doing. But then his mind continued to conjure images of you, more and more frequently.

-He started craving your smile, your laugh, the sound of your voice and your encouraging hand on his shoulder. On more than one occasion he’s found himself spacing out in the middle of tasks, burdened by thoughts of you.

-Well, he only tells himself that he’s burdened.

-He relays his predicament to Jayce as his last option. Last option because he knows Jayce is going to tease him endlessly for acquiring such a fondness for another person.

-And he’s right: Jayce laughs. But it’s not at his expense. More in a…wow I never thought you’d be interested in someone! I’m happy for you. Kind of way.

-And then Viktor has to come to terms with the fact that he’s got a crush.

-It all turns out okay in the end, though. After some fateful run-ins with each other, you finally agree to get lunch sometime. And the rest is history!

-Except it’s not.

-Because even now, years into your relationship, Viktor is still filled with thoughts of you. He’s not as distracted as he used to be, and he’s certainly not perturbed by it anymore, but every now and again he’ll find his mind wandering through the memories you’d made together, instead of working.

-He has reasons to go home on time, now. He has reasons to take care of himself, instead of pushing himself past his limits. He wants to be the biggest reason you smile, and he wants to see you thrive and excel in life.

-He loves his work, truly. But he’s at your beck and call.

-If you’re sick, he’s taking a day or two off to make sure that you’re rested and fed and tucked up in bed.

-If you’re lonely, he’ll be late for work in the morning just so you can wake up next to him, just so he can hold you a little longer.

-Or times like now, where you’ve sent a message up to the lab. I miss you, you’d written, Our house smells like the stew you made last night, and all I can think about is curling up with you tonight. Or laying you out on our bed and kissing every inch of your skin. Whichever you’re up for ;)

-His pulse doubles as soon as he finishes reading your letter, and he hastily folds it back up and tucks it into his pocket.

-It’s barely past noon, but the day isn’t particularly exciting. All he’s been doing is recording notes and experiment observations with Jayce, and such will be his task for the next few days: seeing what happened, and trying to figure out how to fix it.

-It’s not anything he can’t do at home.

-Home, where you are.

-He packs up his things in record time, barely earning the quirk of an eyebrow from his lab partner. Jayce is used to the two of you by now, and he knows that you’re Viktor’s real priority now. (It does interfere with work from time to time, but overall he’s happy that Viktor isn’t on his own anymore)

-It doesn’t take him long to get back to your shared apartment after that. He will actually have to work for most of the day, but for now?

-For now he’s more than content to disturb you, where you’re tucked up on the couch reading a book, and pull you towards your bedroom so you can sprawl out together and bask in each other’s warmth.

-And yeah, he maybe gets a little handsy, but you don’t particularly mind.

-(He doesn’t get a lot of work done)

you pointed out that five only accepts physical affection from Lila, why do think he chooses Lila over the others?

Oh, Anon, I love you for asking this question. I am currently genuinely buoyant about how much the two of them touch in Season 3 because I think it's a very precious thing about their dynamic. I know people in the fandom are gunning for Five to be hugged at some point, but I can't put into words how dear I hold him accepting small gestures of physical affection from Lila specifically before he does so from anyone else. This accidentally became a 1.7k manifesto about affection and friendship. Hope you enjoy!

The thing with Five and physical touch is, I think, that it's something he is really, really fucked up over. He is not a physically affectionate man. The only thing he has really ever shown physical affection to is Delores, and there he was unbearably tender and gentle, so I think he can be physically affectionate, he just doesn't really know how to do it with anybody who isn't, y'know, a manifestation of his trauma of excruciating, decades-long loneliness.

What we know is that Five knows how to love. Loving Delores kept him from completely losing his mind in the apocalypse. He loves his siblings deeply, and he has a deep-seated love for the world as well. But he doesn't know how to express that love, he can't verbalise it, and he can barely initiate touch to the ones he loves most, what he does being restricted to manhandling people when necessary and patting Klaus' shoulders a few times.

What he doesn't know is how to be loved, how to accept affection from others.

He displays a certain inability to cope when love and affection are shown to him. His visible double-take when Klaus tells him he's a good brother is so telling, he is genuinely taken aback. When Viktor patches up his wound in the very first episode and gently pats the blood away, he looks haunted, unsure of what is going on. In Season 1, whenever one of his siblings tries to initiate a physical touch, Five either flinches away or blocks the touch. He keeps Luther's hand away when Luther reaches out to him when he sees that he is upset after the shoot-out at the department store. When Five is literally bleeding out on the floor and Allison inspects his body, his hands pull away from hers. There are so many hugs in Season 2, and none of them involve Five, because a) everyone was mad at him for stranding them in the 60s and b) I think his siblings know that he is not physically affectionate, so they don't even try. He doesn't really reach out to them and they don't reach for him.

Because there was something between the loneliness of the apocalypse and the reunion with his family. The only person we see extensively touch Five, and not in an affectionate way, in a way I can only describe as a powerplay. The Handler. I have to say that I really like the acting choice of how Five reacts to her touching him. Different from his siblings, he does not recoil from her touch. However, he also doesn't lean into it. What he gives her is carefully calculated complete neutrality. He doesn't show her if or how her touch affects him, she continues to prod and poke, and he doesn't give her ammunition. So he has just come from forty years of not touching another living human. What he gets is a superior who uses touch as a tool to assert her dominance, and knowledge on how to weaponise touch to end other people's lives. What I'm getting at is that his already fucked-up relationship with touch from the apocalypse was made worse by the Commission, which doesn't let him associate touch with something positive.

And somewhere around here, Lila comes in. Lila wants to be loved, and, likely due to not having the 45 years of complete solitude, can ask for that love, can pursue it in the way Five is unable to. She is a lot more physical towards other people, she touches Diego frequently and without shame because she likes him and wants to be close to him. The Handler also was physical towards her, and at the time, Lila thought she loved her, so she did not have the same reaction to her touching her as Five had to the same actions. Lila has a lot less baggage in that area than Five does.

Their relationship to one another is very unique in the show. For the majority of ten days, they hate each other deeply. Five plays an important part in her trauma, something she is grappling with, and she was literally sent after him to end his life. But they are also similar, and there is a certain honesty in white-hot hatred, as Five os eloquently puts it, because the two of them are almost shockingly honest to each other. They witness some deeply personal things about the other, and when they discover the kugelblitz, they both realise that their days are numbered and that their grudges don't really matter in the grand scheme of the universe falling apart.

Lila is the person that has touched Five the most over the course of the three seasons. Most of that touch has come when they were trying to kill each other, but that is a form of touch too. It's a different kind of intimacy that is personal on a very different level, but a bit of mild to severe mutually inflicted head trauma and strangulation does lower your inhibitions about the other person's physicality, I reckon.

And it's only after three times of mutually attempted annihilation that they call their little white-hot hatred truce. It comes after Five is very sincere to her face, about Diego and about the Handler, ironically about love, something that I think she is surprised by and which earns him some points in her favour. And this is where the first time that Five accepts Lila's touch comes in. It's not an affectionate touch here, it's perfunctory, the physical touch equivalent of a big get-along-shirt, but something about it is different from all the other times Five has touched or been touched in the show.

Anon, you asked why he chooses to accept Lila's physical affection over anyone else's. In my interpretation, it comes down to the fact that she does something different from everyone else we've seen so far. For that first touch, Lila offers.

And it's a command, and it's all for their plan to get to the Commission, but it's her extending an olive branch to work with him, after all their disagreements, over the mutual dislike, and more importantly, it's her not imposing her touch on him. For the first time, Five has a deliberate choice, and the gesture, in all its stubbornness and dissatisfaction, gets Lila an actual genuine smile out of Five.

I really like this moment because it's steeped in mutual dislike and anger that they have to work together, but there is a sincerity there that I love, the acting in this scene is wonderful.

And then they are unfortunate enough to discover that they make a pretty good team. They find out about the kugelblitz and Lila decides that she doesn't really want to hold grudges anymore in that short time, not against Diego and not really against Five, either. Some odd bonding through trauma happened between the two of them, and instead of hating him, Lila decides to make the best of the time they have left and annoy him, which I think she probably finds more satisfaction in than trying to kill him.

This is where the fact that Lila is not the Handler nor one of Five' beloved siblings becomes important. Physical affection from her does not carry the weight it carries from either of these parties. She touches him, first and foremost, at least I think, to tease him, grabs his hand and pulls him around in blatant disrespect to the walls he has puts up. We see her sling her arm across his shoulders, ruffle his hair (to his dismay), grab his hand to pull him close, manhandle him to twist and turn him, and he twirls her around, dancing, on two different occasions. Booze was involved, which I think explains this all partially, but I like to think it's a little more than that.

Lila is not really overthinking what her extending physical affection, no matter how teasing it may be, might mean, either to her or to him. She treats it casually, and it is not meant as a great gesture of care that I think Five would grapple with more. She touches him as a joke, as jibe, and he is grumpy about it, but he lets it happen and even reciprocates and plays along, just a little bit. They're gestures that are not suffocating with meaning or love. They're a first step to accepting physical affection.

And affectionate the gestures are, even though I don't really think that's what Lila really wanted them to be, she wanted to get on his nerves, get a rise out of him, you know, the game they've been playing ever since they met. But she is clearly comfortable with him, and he is with her, to an extent much larger than with anyone else we've seen him with, at least on a physical level. The joke kind of got away from her there, because I think they both have affection to give, even and maybe especially to each other, although it takes a while for that to sink in. This season, Five and Lila fumble their way into a friendship that is new territory for both of them, but it is territory they both subconsciously have wanted to charter for a while. She even ends up offering him a hug after the wedding, something sober Five walks past, but even then, it was an offer, not her forcing touch on him.

I don't think Five chose Lila to accept physical affection from. I rather think that she chose him to be affectionate toward, first reluctantly, in a utilitarian way, and then to tease him, get on his nerves, but then they accidentally slipped into friendship and what was meant to be steeped in sarcasm became very genuine for two people that are quite starved for platonic affection. And good for them, they really do deserve a friend, someone to be a little silly with.

So. On the one hand, I am definitely overthinking all of this and it is not that deep. On the other hand. I can make this show deeper than it is if I want to.

Writing update

While there won't be any new meta for the time being, here's another update on the current state of my works because, first and foremost, I'm a writer.

Did My Heart Love 'Til Now

I have 45 out 186 scenes of the sequel to CYHMH left to revise. After my illness, I ramped up the pace a little. I'm still cutting unnecessary dialogue and descriptions but add some other stuff when it feels important, which is increasing the wordcount. I'm talking about adding <2k more words to a 330k work, so we're still below the 1% threshold.

When I decided to revise this story, I thought that it was utterly boring and with too much cute domestic Viktuuri and smut--nothing wrong with either, but I felt as if the plot was wanting. I'm quite content with the current work, although it still has a great portion of slice-of-life that dilutes the plot. While in my YOI novelisation slice-of-life made sense to fill the gaps between the episodes and to explore Yuuri and Viktor as well as their relationship, I still think that should be cut down in the sequel. I know I can do better.

Once this revision is done, I will hand it over to my beta of Thousands Spotlights for a first impression (you might call it an alpha-reading if such a thing exists). I don't want to put too much effort into something to find out that I must start from scratch again because it lacks wit and tension. But before I'm ready to have anyone else read this story, I want to have one last look at the smutty scenes as something has turned up I need to handle with utmost care (just as Viktor handles his precious Katsudon).

Can You Hear My Heartbeat

As this story is rapidly approaching the Cup of China aka the event at which Yuuri's true Eros shows for the first time, there are some small details in the upcoming chapters, which I must take care of when I will give these chapters their final edit. This won't delay the posting cycle, it's just another thing I will watch out for when I update those chapters for the last time. In addition to my beta of that story, the beta of Vitya's story will assist me with her expertise on the subject.

This whole thing is a little tricky as while I was writing the CYHMH, I unknowingly did something right I had no concept of at that time (we're talking about the period from 2021-2022 and a lot has happened since). Back then, I wrote what made the most sense regarding canon and added a little of my own experience where I could relate to the character's situation. And there was absolutely nothing wrong with that. But when you write about something you have no concept of, you are prone to adding common misconceptions or just produce utter bullshit, and thus I must put all the respective scenes under scrutiny. I'm really anxious to mess it up this time.

I'm sorry that this sounds very cryptic, but at this point it's all very half-baked and not yet at a stage where I can talk about it (I'm not even sure I want to). It's like accidentally writing an autistic-coded character before you know that you're autistic, but because you have no concept of autism, you add harmful stereotypes. (No, that didn't happen here, but you get the idea.)

A/N: Sorry for the lack of Luther, I did actually start writing one for him but it was basically just his relationship with Sloane. Also the Hargreeves canonical love interests are pretty much erased in this.

-Diego isn’t the most agreeable umbrella but since most his attitude is directed at Ben who needs to get bullied more than anyone you’ve ever met, you’re actually cool with him, and even defend him when Ben bites back

-And Diego really doesn’t mind your signature sparrow attitude when it’s on his side, he doesn’t trust you and makes no secret of that but he’ll accept your back up and focus his animosity on your other siblings

-If nothing else, he appreciates the fact that you wear your heart on your sleeve, he can be very gullible and everyone around him seems to be scheming so he feels drawn to you and your lack of bullshit, sort of sparking a quiet alliance between the two of you

-Eventually you get some chances to talk one on one, and before you know it speaks are flying, Diego can hardly believe it, but he realises he’s falling for the enemy again

-He’s a little resistant to these feelings, and tries to keep up his ‘cool guy’ act, but it doesn’t take much convincing from you to melt away his defences and then he makes his move with a lot of passion

-You’re pretty out in the open with your relationship, and you progress quickly, even more so when you learn how limited your time left in the world is

-Your siblings don’t get it at all, Ben in particular is seriously questioning your taste, but you don’t care what they think, Diego seems to though as you have to stop him from picking a fight every time one of them makes a dig

-By the time you two get to the reset universe, neither of you are as invested in your remaining group as you are in each other, so you decide to go off on your own together, and maybe try having your first date

Allison Hargreeves

-You don’t notice Allison much you’re first meeting, but the attitude she brings to your later negotiations makes her very hard to ignore, you’re curious about her because while the rest of the umbrellas are nuisances for sure, there’s an edge to her that her siblings can’t start to compete with, perhaps you or the sparrows could though

-You prod at her, trying to figure out what her deal is, but she’s too defensive and at best you can exchange some vitriolic humour with her, so instead you ask Luther what her problem is, who doesn’t think better of telling you the whole story, and of course losing a child -among other significant traumas- can pull on even your frosty heartstrings

-You can’t pretend your interest in her is purely due to curiosity or sympathy, and after a few conversations romantic tension starts to bubble between the two of you, which she doesn’t resist for long, because even though it surely can’t be healthy she needs something to sustain her

-Your siblings are skeptical of this relationship, considering Allison has made it no secret that she’ll do whatever it takes to achieve her goals, Sloane in particular is a little concerned for you

-But even if Allison seems like she’s made of steel to them, you get glimpses of the abundant vulnerability she has right under the surface, you two actually open up to each other some, you drop the big bad sparrow act when it’s just the two of you, and she confides in you little details about her daughter and how she’s feeling

-You really start to care about her well-being, so while you’re worried to do so -since Allison seemed to like you because you agreed with her- you bite the bullet and suggest she try to make amends with Viktor, which she obviously doesn’t take well and sparks quite the fight, though you try to explain it’s for her sake not his, and remind her of your experience losing siblings

-Despite the fact that the more you grow to care about her the more disagreements you get into, she still sure as hell isn’t gonna lose you and factors you into her deal with the devil

Klaus Hargreeves

-You are infatuated with Klaus from almost the exact moment you see him stumbling around your house in a cowboy hat, he’s so quirky, and fun, and unlike anyone you’ve ever met, especially around the academy and you offer him some leniency in the big battle

-The next time you see him is on the brink of the apocalypse, when he comes crashing into the hotel with your father, swearing the old basted is a changed man, and you don’t know why you feel protective over Klaus but you find yourself warning him that he can’t trust Reginald, to which he just tries harder to convince you

-Not knowing anyone but the bride and your unbearably sulky brother as Sloane and Luther’s wedding arrives, you decide to seize the opportunity to talk to Klaus, brushing off his attempts to talk about your dad and asking him questions about himself until the self-centred part of his brain takes over and he starts blabbing

-When he realises you’re actually ‘interested’ in him he’s quick to lay on the flirting thick, and it’s quite nice for both of you to be caught up getting to know each other while everyone else seems so distracted

-Except of course Ben who watches your thing unfold with the upmost disgust, though his taunts are futile when you and Klaus are just as quick to mock him back

-Though you’re certainly swayed by the rush of it all, you two actually manage to bond beyond just needing someone to couple up with for a wedding at the end of the world, you both get very confessional and offer each other some comfort over old wounds, and the next morning when the spell wears off your interest in each other remains

-You still don’t want to trust Reginald, but Klaus appeals to you by confessing that as quick as it is, he does really like you and he wants to see if you two can become something, which begrudgingly you agree with

-So when Klaus doesn’t make it into Oblivion you lose motivation real quick which he witnesses in the afterlife, feeling so irritated that he met someone that he’s willing to make sacrifices for but he does just that, returning to you from beyond the grave

Viktor Hargreeves

-You find it very easy to click with Viktor, he’s the only umbrella who tries to mediate from the get go which you really respect, and as you get to see his combination of well-earned confidence and genuine desire to do good you can’t stop yourself from gravitating towards him

-Viktor is cautious, but he’s eager to make peace so when you start showing him attention he doesn’t shy away from it, of course he’s completely oblivious to the fact that you’re flirting with him until you spell it out, after which he’s both flattered and flustered

-He’s a bit slow to initiate anything but he’ll match any advances you make, even though he doubts this thing you have going on is a good idea

-Most of the umbrellas are actually okay with your relationship for the simple fact that you clearly make Viktor really happy, all his inner turmoil and family problems just fade into the background when he’s with you

-The Sparrows are a fair bit more judgemental, as well as weary considering Viktor seems to be the strongest umbrella, Ben just mocks you for being into such a sulk, prompting one of your many fights

-You really don’t have a lot of patience for Allison and you feel compelled to hit back at her on Viktor’s behalf but he always calls you off, so you try to restrain yourself and just focus on comforting him

-You know firsthand how shady your family -especially Reginald- can be, so you quickly jump ship with Viktor in the big to save or not to save the world debate, but while you’re glad you’re spending your last days together, and don’t want to risk another goodbye, you bittersweetly discuss all the things you wish you could do if you had more time

-So when alls said and done, you’re in a strange new universe, estranged from your families, you find joy in the fact that you have each other and all the time in the world

Oh my gosh anon 😭 You figured it out so fast, and right before I posted that answer about Luka’s and Ash’s thoughts on the Aikawas as well!

Haha, yes. Rin’s father, Takashi, has always been in love with Viktor ever since they were kids. Unfortunately for him though, Viktor was only interested in the opposite sex. That doesn’t stop his feelings for Viktor though, even though he knew that there was nothing he could do. And even after getting into an arranged marriage and after Viktor’s death, he still loves him.

One of the reasons he decided to also start expanding to Elysium City was partly also just so he had reasons to be closer to Viktor (not that he would admit to anyone else). Once he found out that Viktor had a kid, he was shocked but also hopeful after the longest time. He was psyched in trying to get his own kid to be together, although he wasn’t as insistent as he is now after Viktor’s death.

I think one of the reasons for his complicated and tense relationship with Rin is caused by his undying love/crush for Viktor. Can you imagine having a father that’s still in love with someone else other than your mother? Even though Rin knows that their marriage was arranged, it’s still painful.

Additionally, he now tries his best to get Rin to be with Viktor’s kid as some way of getting/achieving what he couldn’t in the past. Rin doesn’t like that, but they are also still respectful of their father and always tries their best to make him proud in any other ways than forced romance 😆

Can you do one for Mordecai with a female reader who's love language is acts of services and physical touch. Like, she has almost no sense of personal space (she really doesn't mean to make him uncomfortable) and if absolutely FLUSTERS poor Mordecai especially when he becomes aware of his feelings after a SLOW burn built up. Ayo so I actually got like 2 other messages about a Pt.2 to the first Mordecai headcanons, so Im adding this onto that! Again for some reason this murdercat got away from me so its a long boy. I attempted to keep it organized ,, , ,

First order of business, Mitzi ships it.

Back when Atlas bought her that nifty camera, she didn't just take embarrassing photos of Mordecai. She got some pretty cute candid shots of you around the bar, and a kinda-blurry-but-not-too-bad photo of you and Mordecai outside the big cafe window, talking to each other and not aware you were being photographed. It's pretty artsy, if she says so herself. She tucks the photos in Mordecai's desk and directly hands you the silly ones she took of him.

Actually, she clocked your feelings early on, but figured he wasn't interested. Didn't seem like the kind of guy, which is a shame. You're a sweetie. She hadn't seen you both act any different for a long time, so maybe that crush fizzled out? But if you ever bring it up with Mitzi, she's your #1 support. She's gonna set you up nice and give you all sorts of tips that just ... fall flat. Jeez, she knew Mordecai was unapproachable, but is it really going to take this long ...?

Viktor also figured your feelings out (albeit later), but that ain't his business. You had odd taste, though. He thinks it's pretty funny when other people flirt with you and Mordecai's suddenly in a foul mood and doesn't understand why. At least you two aren't hanky panky or anything, eugh, and you keep your heads during firefights. Anytime Viktor tries to bring up the topic (which, granted, is like a grand total of three times), he's so round about and non-direct that you have no idea what he's getting at. Oh well.

(If the idea of you two being a couple is brought up with anyone else, they can scarcely believe it. You? With him? Good luck. Only Atlas seems to see it, though his employee's love lives aren't relevant unless it gets in the way of business.)

Actually, if you're a more exuberant and affectionate type, that just makes people question your taste in him even more. The first few interactions didn't go great - you touched him without thinking, like you do most people, and he flinched so hard it's like you hurt him. Second time he hissed. Right, you got the picture. You became more mindful and considerate of his personal space, that plus an apology goes a long way.

Once you both are more familiar and have more trust, you can put a hand on Mordecai's shoulder or back without him reacting much. You can even squeeze his shoulder if you're trying to be reassuring, or silently warning him. Sometimes you just say "Hey, I'm gonna touch you," and you fix his coat or check a bruise. He lets you get away with more than others because you ask first.

(Sometimes he feels bad for it - you'll rush to hug your friends and you're so happy in their embrace, then you bound over to him and clearly restrain yourself as you touch his arm.)

Eventually you ask for hugs - quick ones! Special occassions only! But sometimes you're obviously distressed so he just. Lets it happen, briefly. If this is before admitting any feelings to each other or even himself, it's brief. If this is many years into this weird sort-of-understanding-relationship thing you both have, he'll quietly hold you while you get your emotions out. It's the least he can do, it really is. Mordecai already feels like he isn't deserving of whatever this is, and moreso if you're clearly someone who needs and wants physical attention and comfort.

But he does try, in his way. He'll reach over and take your hand. He gets used to sitting shoulder to shoulder, your tails brushing each other, or letting you lean on him when you're both exhausted. He actually likes it quite a bit when you slightly lean as you read and he does paperwork. It's nice to have that solid warmth, and comfortable quiet.

Mordecai lives in the main building above the cafe, long after he could afford an apartment. More economical and practical, he reasons. If Atlas needs something, he's right there. When you begin inviting him to dinner at your place, very slowly, he starts lingering afterward. Mordecai tries to make it like it's because it's easier to do numbers there - better lighting, your place is quieter, and so on. Nevermind the warm dinner and the nice fire in the fireplace and some low music on the radio and you reading something while his pencil scratches the paper. It ... really brings up some old thoughts and memories.

You've gotten bits and pieces of his family history during these times, usually after you've shared some of his own first. Clearly he doesn't like talking about it. You don't push it. You just listen to what he volunteers, and thank him for listening to you in kind.

Note, he always goes home, no matter how late it is. You feel like it's one of those lines that'll be tough to cross. Hell, just inviting him over was tough at first. He walked into your living space just fine in the day, when he was waiting to pick you up for a job. There'd be some comments on the dust or some examining of your plants, but nothing odd. When he comes by for dinner, he's initially tense until he settles in, and eventually he's quite at ease. Over the years he brought several plants in because he always heard you're supposed to bring flowers for the host, but flowers die quickly, and besides this variety of ivy is different because --

(You end up with a tidy windowsill of houseplants, and start having to put some on your counters. Mordecai gets flustered and suggests maybe you should get rid of some, and you reply you absolutely won't. When he waits for you to get ready, he checks their water and pulls some dead leaves. Might as well, right?)

As expected, kissing and intimate touches will be slow-going. You start simple: a quick good-bye kiss on the cheek when he leaves your apartment in the evening. The first time, Mordecai's hairs stand on end and his tail poofs up but! He assures you it was fine. He's fine. When the bar's empty and he's heading out, you give a quick 'good luck' kiss before hurrying off. You initiate all of them until one day when you'te both walking to the car, covered in (someone else's) blood and debating something silly, and once there's a lull in the conversation he just. Leans over and kisses you. It's only lasts a few seconds, then he just pulls away, fixes his glasses and trips walks to the car.

You're a bit dazed the rest of the drive and he's just a mess of nerves.

After that you can give him kisses now and again, but he gets flustered easily and it’s definitely a private matter. It's only around Viktor that you can touch and fuss over Mordecai, but that only leads to the old man snorting and the two of them starting to argue. Viktor's pretty damn surprised you're both that close, though. How long has it been that way?

Oh, and then there's drunk Mordecai. Oh boy.

This has only happened like, two times, because he does not drink. Period, the end, close curtain. He knows how he gets and he hates it. It doesn't take much of whatever questionable piss whiskey to get him swaying and seeing double. He'll flop on your shoulder and ramble about you're so wonderful and he's really not sure why you like him, also could you stop moving the room, oh and he's killed a man for you, but nevermind that you're such a darling person --

He's so sloshed. The novelty starts to wear off when he's falling over and you're having to get him home because apparently Viktor did it last time. At least Mordecai's a bean pole. If he's drunk in your apartment, thank god, you can just pull him over to your room so he can sleep it off. He's still going on about who-knows-what while you take off his shoes and coat. What's this about murdering who for you? Whatever, he's probably confused. Probably.

(You sleep on the couch and at 7am sharp you're awakened by a loud THUNK and panicked shouting as he still-drunkedly tries to orient himself and figure out where the hell he is. Hes so humiliated by everything he just avoids you for several days.)

Oh, last thing.

Mordecai will kill someone for you. Period. No questions asked. Viktor would too, yes, but after explaining and questioning and he'd go with you and hide the body. Mordecai just does it. Abusive partner, debt collector, a rival gang member tailing you, whoever - they're done for. He doesn't bring it up until you ask questions.

Umbrella Academy Season 3 Spoilers Thoughts:

(Okay, actually, this might be an Allison bitchfest in the notes. And well, some other general bitching - because some characters made me so annoyed - but generally speaking I really really REALLY loved this season)

Season 4 Five needs to go apeshit, seriously, all of his shitty little siblings give him so much shit like he's supposed to know everything. I wouldn't put it against him to just leave their asses if something else comes up.

Allison REALLY REALLY pissed me off this season. It's not that I don't get her trauma, but the constant belittling of everyone else's trauma? Fuck that. I don't know where I stand with her after this Season, while she was one of my faves in the last two.

NO, I'm sorry Harlen didn't deserve to die. And LMAO. Excuse fucking me, but if the Academies went after him after the vote, he would have killed them all. Seriously, so many of these characters pissed me off this season. And yes, I do give certain characters more of a pass to be murderous (ie. Five and Lila) but the rest of them? Like, holy fuck, y'all are BABIES at this time traveling thing. And Victor wanting to protect Harlan (BECAUSE HE PROBABLY SAW HIM AS A SON - is not fucking selfish and is not a BETRAYAL). Viktor was responsible for Claire's death by mistake. Allison murdered Harlan for not having control of something he didn't choose to have. The fact that she feels right and doesn't feel sorry? Yeah, fuck off with that, what a piece of shit. This whole season has been a testament to how little Allison cares about her family and that's very disappointing. (I'm liable to think the last time jump really fucked with her head because ??? This is just too much)

Allison just being so fucking manipulative. Using her love against her family, like fuck off, the amount of times Five has had to deal with that shit and hasn't murdered a family's loved one. Allison really gave me vibes that she would kill anyone for her kid, even if it's another kid. And I don't know what's going to happen with her but yeah. There's a lot she needs to apologize for.

At the end of it though, even though I get her (the events of her life after the first apocalypse seem unreal and it's easy how she could lose sight of whats wrong or right) I'm really mad at her.

I am happy she got her happy ending though. (Presumably)

omg, almost forgot. What she was going to do to Luther. Jfc. Like, holy shit. I really hope they acknowledge all this in the next season.

Okay, and another thing, that shit she said about Viktor betraying her trust? LMAO. What a laugh, as if the whole family hadn't done that to him his whole life???? Viktor lies ONCE? And oooooo, I can never trust you. Fuck off with that bullshit. (If I were Viktor I'd never trust her again)

Honestly the whole fam was being held by a thread, which this time was Klaus, the last two times it was Five. But you know what, old man, you do you, fuck these hoes, you deserve to retire.

The way that Five was just ready to accept death because at least he wouldn't be the only one alive.

Luther instantly falling in love with Sloan, is well... makes sense. Both of them are so lonely, smart, and naive. lmao They quite honestly deserve each other 10/10. Never did like Allison/Luther (just a boring relationship)

I also love Allison/Ray and thought they brought out the best out of each other, so if she gets to be with him and her daughter, then I'll accept it. (Hope it wasn't just an illusion or something)

Wish Five's relationship with Deloras wasn't a constant joke. And quite honestly happy that Sparrow chick (the one who does the spitting) died, cause -shrugs- what can I say, not impressive.

I was ready for all Sparrows to die. Glad Ben and Sloan lived, wish bird lady lived in the end, I liked her and she actually seemed to care about her family.

YO, REGGIE IS PURE EVIL. The man is just EVIL. I mean, I think he expected Allison to kill him, and somehow that gets him to be with his wife, but I wonder what his original plan was. LMAO. Really hope they have a new season.

That said, Reg and Klaus hanging out was hilarious, still fucked up, but lmao, I think Klaus is at least used to so much fucked up shit in his life where he can practice his power.

But also, why was Klaus dead in the apocalypse??? Did he just choose to stay dead and never knew Five was there? So sad.

There was just so much Five hanging out in ordinary situations. A+++ HIS SPEECH. (I'm sorry but Five just deserves a better family, ffs)

Five and Victor need more time together, because they are about the only sensible siblings and actually care about their family despite their issues...

I love my babe Lila, she reminds me of Vala mal Doran, same chaotic energy - same accent too. LOVE the idea of her and Five being besties. And LOVE that she found out about the Handler killing her and Five rewinding time.

Five being the Commission's founder???? So many questions???? I don't get it, I don't get why he would want Five to accept the apocalypse, maybe there's something even worse next season???? Because if Five did nothing than they'd all just be dead? Is that a better alternative than Hargreeve's owning everything?

Diego and his not kid, so cute. LMAO. And then Diego going to be a soon to be father anyhow! :D

These people never really learn. lmao. They spent how many episodes talking about the briefcase and Marcus, meanwhile, the man's been dead the whole time, and the briefcase has been with them forever. Hilarious when Luther comes back and no one's noticed he's gone.

All in all, this felt like a family breaks up season, which is sad. I hope next season (lord help me) is them coming together.

But as stated before, I NEED Five to go apeshit. And also for actual acknowledgment of HIS traumas. Like??? Same could be said for Klaus. I can totally see why fandom falls on these two, because the rest of the family literally just makes fun of them the whole time. Meanwhile I have to listen to Allison and Luther's issues the whole 3 seasons and want to throw something. Viktor's issues? Good shit. Transformative. Diego? Also transformative. Allison and Luther? I mean, probably, but meh.

I miss the Commission. I miss older Five. It's good to see Reggie in a bigger role. Cause I really fell for his manipulative bullshit. Which is nice! That seems to be a common villain in this story. Hardcore manipulation. I like that.

ANYWAY. Loved the trans rep. Viktor was placed in seamlessly. It was really beautiful. Loved Harlan, was super excited for him to have powers in the end of Season 2. Loved the wacky scenes where everyone is just partying and FIVE is involved.

Jessica who?

Don't like their Mom being cast aside, and it's so interesting how Pogo finally takes a stand against Reggie in this timeline. It just comes way later and at the end doesn't save anyone. Because he's just gone.

Can't think of anymore right now, so I'll leave it there. lmaooo. Lots of complaining, but complaints just stand out to me, and it's not really about the writing. Just SUPER annoyed at the characters. oof. The family dynamics just feel less this season. Granted, no one's had leisure time, so they're all prime assholes right now, hell even Five was keeping most shit to himself the first season. (But Five is at least progressing at quite a quick pace considering he's been fighting of apocalypse after apocalypse within a month, I believe?)

Whoo-hee, I have an Ask! (To be fair, I've HAD an Ask for several days, but this is the first I've gotten on my computer proper to answer it).

So let's see.

I'm going to give this one to @non-plutonian-druid, who not only posts delightful fan art, they also post delightful fan art in even more delightful crossovers, which is just very fun.

16. a tiny detail in canon that you want more people to appreciate:

Ah. Hmm. Which canon even? Oh you know what, I'm going to be obnoxious and say, if you pay attention in TUA you'll NOTICE that Five totally reacts differently to Viktor than to everyone else. He smiles more. He's less insulting. There's this scene in S3 where he goes "I hate to say I told you so" and Viktor shoots back "You LOVE to say I told you so," and Five just smiles and nods! You CANNOT tell me he wouldn't have a snappy comeback if ANYONE ELSE had dared! So I know I can't convince anyone to ship them but you DO SEE they have a DIFFERENT relationship from the others, right? :P

24. how has fandom positively impacted your life?

Well. I have been writing stories since I learned how to write, and making them up for longer, but after my first child was born it was like everything shut off. I was so tired! I had no more free time! How could I take time out of my busy day to write when I could be using that time to, Idaknow, sleep? Before I could get into the habit again I started doing collection development for the library, and it was like, do you have any idea how many books are published in a year? And it's really important for more diverse voices to be uplifted. So like why do I, a white (basically-)straight mainstream-Christian (relatively-)able-bodied (not neurotypical, but come on, Anne of Green Gables was published in 1908 and she's the most perfect female-with-ADHD character ever, so it's not like THAT one's lacking) ciswoman even need to write a book? Who cares? Yes, I am aware this is a lie ones brain tells to be obnoxious, but it still made it impossible for me to actually carve out time to write when who cares?

The first step in me getting past this was the writing prompt that became "The Pipeweed Mafia Epic," which was, technically, fanfiction. It gave me permission to just HAVE FUN with writing, without thought to whether the story is Needed or if anyone's going to read it at all. Some of the only other stories I managed to get out for the next few years were ALSO fanfics. But it was infrequent, and I didn't share them. AND THEN, here on Tumblr, I saw a post for a Legion FX fic exchange and I said, "You know, I think I can do that. I should take the chance!" So I did, and ended up writing not just my assignment but also a little fic that popped into my head just in the process of me deciding what I wanted to ask for! And now I had an AO3 account, which meant I suddenly had an outlet when I saw a movie that desperately required some rethinking! And suddenly I was waking up to emails that said "You've Got Kudos!" and THAT'S a hit of dopamine, so it suddenly became so much easier to just get an idea for a silly little story I could stick on AO3 and maybe get a "You've Got Kudos!" message the next day!

So long story short, fandom helped me get WRITING again. I'm still not sure when I'll ever get back to ORIGINAL fiction, but at least the storytelling itch in my brain has an outlet!
