Day 26: Curse
vampire!Stone dealing with the curse of vampirism and bursting into flame when someone accidentally opens the back door and lets in daylight.
Ficlet (to be honest it got carried away and I don’t think it’s in ficlet territory anymore) below the cut. This carries on almost directly from Dehumanization prompt fill.
There’s one more loose end I need to wrap up for this vampire!Stone series
-
It was a trick. It was another of the vampire’s sick games. Or his mind was messing with him. It had moved on from hopeful hallucinations to nightmares.
Jake wasn’t here.
He wasn’t in the annex, and he wasn’t looking at the empty space where he should have been in a mirror he knew so well. A mirror he knew worked and he knew he should be able to see himself in because he had so many times before.
Jake couldn’t be here.
He was still in that dark, cold cell, waiting for the vampires to come back and feed on him again. Any moment this nightmare would fade to reality and he would see his own blood on the floor beneath him, a ghost of his reflection in it.
This nightmare just needed to stop soon.
It really needed to stop, and Eve needed to stop feeling so real and solid behind him, holding him up when he knew it was only those chains holding him up. They were his only support and he needed to wake up and return to them and end this.
But he wasn’t.
Jake wasn’t waking up, and Eve was still behind him, Cassie still in front of him, Ezekiel behind her.
They were talking but he didn’t hear.
He had to wake up.
He tried to pull away from them. To escape this lie.
He fell, but he never felt his body hit the floor, and not from the chains. Eve was still there and she had caught him and the nightmare wouldn’t end.
Jake tried to get away.
If he could get back through the back door…maybe that would wake him up. Maybe that would bring him back to the familiar cell and the feedings, and vampires didn’t feed on other vampires.
But he couldn’t get free.
There was Jenkins too, holding him steady, and now he knew this had to be a trick from the vampire because there was a sudden sharp pain in his arm, like a bite. Not much pain, but it was there and it was sharp. It had to be a fang, so he knew it was a lie.
He was still in that prison.
Jake was still human.
-
Eve had been standing behind Stone, already supporting most of his weight, so it took almost no adjustment to catch him when his legs suddenly gave way.
She had been prepared for it.
She had not been prepared for the tears she saw rolling down his cheeks, cutting paths through the blood spattered over his skin, nor for him to weakly try and get free of her arms.
And she had definitely not been prepared for Jenkins to kneel on his other side and suddenly inject him with something that looked unsettlingly like the sedative they had used on the saw-toothed moth when it had gotten loose a few months ago.
“What the hell Jenkins?!” Ezekiel yelled, “He hasn’t had enough stabby already?!”
“It’s just a sedative,” Jenkins replied not quite with his usual calm, “It should keep him out for a few hours.”
Eve nodded shakily, “That’s good. He was panicking and making his injuries worse. This way we can keep him alive until we get him to a hospital.”
“We can’t take him to a hospital,” Flynn said solemnly.
He was the only one standing away from the group, watching them, his expression as grave as Eve had ever seen it.
“Why not?!” Cassandra had caught one of Stone’s hands with her own, “We tell them it was an animal attack or something…use a spell to…”
“We can’t take him to a hospital!” Flynn snapped back, suddenly in motion. He grabbed Judson’s mirror and set it down beside them, tilted so they could see Stone’s reflection in it.
Or, where Stone’s reflection should have been.
“We can’t take him to a hospital,” Flynn repeated more gently, “Because he’s a vampire.”
“No,” Eve breathed, shaking her head, “H-he’s not…”
“He is,” Flynn let the mirror lay flat, crouching and looking back at Stone.
“Well we gotta do something!” Ezekiel looked desperately from Flynn to Jenkins, who only shook his head.
“There’s nothing we can do.”
“You stopped me from becoming a werewolf!”
“Lycanthropy does not require the afflicted to die!” Jenkins snapped back, then managed to master himself, and added solemnly, “Mr Stone has already died in order to get this far into the transformation. It cannot be reversed now.”
Cassandra whispered a heartbreaking, trembling, “He died there?” that was drowned out my Ezekiel’s voice, desperate and angry.
“We have the entire library! We can’t just give up! There has to be something we can do!”
“There is,” Eve wiped the tears that kept brimming in her eyes, “We support him. We help him through whatever comes next and we make sure he knows this is still his home. He’s still a librarian.”
“Eve’s right,” Flynn said, “We can’t stop this but we can still help.”
“What about the sanctuary? Estelle might be able to help…”
“No! He belongs here!” Ezekiel bit his lip, “Besides he doesn’t trust easily. We’re the only ones he does trust.”
“So we get him to his room,” Eve said, “We patch him up, do what we can, and prepare for…for whatever comes next.”
“Cassandra,” Flynn moved in position to help Eve carry Stone again, “Look into spells that can be used to keep a vampire contained without harming them.”
“We’re gonna lock him up?!”
“We’re going to contain him until the initial inevitable blood lust passes and he has control of it, and speaking of which, Jones, you need to go steal some blood.”
“Steal some blood?! Seriously?! We’re just gonna let this happen and…” Ezekiel cut himself off, or maybe just couldn’t figure out the words to say.
“Yes, from a blood bank. Look for AB blood types. He’s going to need blood to recover, and to stave off the cravings. It’s like a…”
“So we have a plan,” Eve interrupted what she could see what an impending ramble, “Cassandra, spells to safely contain vampires. Jones, rob a blood bank. Flynn, Jenkins, with me.”
-
Direct, clear action was good. That’s what they needed. They needed things to do so they didn’t have to think. Think about the fact that Stone had died in that dark, cold, dirty cell, alone but for his tormentors. The vampires who had done this to him.
The sedative Jenkins had given him seemed to be working. Either that or he was still human enough to be completely struck down by the severe injuries and extreme blood loss.
The transformation hadn’t gone far, according to Jenkins. He had only just been turned, which meant if they had got to him just a bit sooner…
Stone didn’t move, didn’t stir at all, as they removed his clothes and cleaned the dirt and blood from his skin.
In doing so, they revealed wounds horribly deep and ragged and layered - bite upon bite and flesh torn deeply into, cloth from his shirt and jeans caught inside, in some places on his wrists bone visible…
But, there were signs of some already starting to heal, his body knitting itself back together, and the only wound that hadn’t even started that yet was on the right side of his neck. That must be where he was fed on most recently.
That had to have been the one that finally killed him, drained what was left of his life away in that dark, cold, squalid cell, while he was chained to the wall, unable to defend himself or do anything to stop it.
Eve was furious. It wasn’t right and he wasn’t fair, and they should have been able to save him in time. That was their job. To save people from threats like this, and they couldn’t save one of their own.
She had killed two vampires in that place. She wished there had been more so she could have taken them out too. Got some sort of revenge.
Not that it would help. It was too late now.
Without an outlet for her rage, Eve fell to despair, and her eyes brimmed with tears again.
Being turned into a vampire aside, what Stone had been through was horrific. Traumatic was an understatement, and he had suffered all that alone while they failed to find him day after day.
Other than Jenkins giving instructions on helping him with bandaging and cleaning, none of them spoke. Eve doubted she could have even if she tried, not without it coming out as a sob.
When finally it was done and they had him cleaned, bandaged, and dressed in his favourite flannel lounge pants with van Gogh’s sunflowers embroidered crudely on - a gift from Cassandra when she got herself a sewing machine - he might almost have looked normal.
Like he was sleeping after a rough mission, and the bandages hid normal injuries, not the bites from multiple vampires and the one bite that killed him.
“How is he?” Cassandra poked her head in through the doorway, grimacing as she glanced to the adjoining bathroom, now decorated with his blood from their haphazard medical treatment.
“Still out,” Eve replied, looking from the door and back to Stone, “But we’ve done what we can for now.”
There was a pause. Silence.
Ezekiel cleared his throat before speaking, his voice cracking on the first attempt before he managed to get it under control, “Well, I stole from a few blood banks. Ones well stocked, so they shouldn’t miss a few packs. Left it all in a cooler in the annex.”
“And I found a spell that should keep him in here, if that’s what we really think is best,” Cassandra continued, “Just need to paint a few sigils around his door and infuse them with an incantation. It’ll be like a window. He can’t pass it but it won’t hurt him.”
“Okay, good. Do that,” Eve said, “And when he wakes up, we give him…we see if he wants…”
“We give him one of the blood bags,” Flynn finished for her, “Which he will need.”
“We do it two of us at a time. One with a sedative on hand in case he becomes violent.”
“But it’s still Stone,” Cassandra argued, “He wouldn’t hurt us, and treating him like…”
“Like a monster,” Ezekiel finished when she broke off, “That’s not gonna help.”
“Do you imagine he would ever forgive himself were he to harm one of us?” Jenkins argued, “He will not be entirely himself. Not until he has mastered this. Colonel Baird is right. We need to be prepared for the possibility of his growing violent.”
-
Jenkins’ warning made sense, but at first Stone didn’t grow violent at all.
He wasn’t even really lucid for the first few days, but he wasn’t really their Jacob Stone either.
He drank when they brought him some blood. Always barely awake and only a few small sips at first, but then he lifted himself up a bit, grabbed to hold the bag and drink faster. Desperately.
On the sixth day, he grabbed Flynn’s wrist and tried to drag it to him, but he wasn’t strong enough to maintain his grip. They realised later that Flynn had a paper cut, a tiny slice, not too deep, but that had to be what Stone had wanted.
On the seventh day, he was sitting up in the bed when Eve arrived, leaning back against the wall and picking at the bandage on his left wrist with a right hand that looked to be bleeding.
Eve stopped outside the door, watching for a moment.
“This real?”
His voice startled her. It was rough and quiet, but it was the first coherent sound he’d made since they got him back, and she wasn’t prepared for the wave of mixed emotions when she heard it.
“It’s real,” she replied, stepping into the room with Ezekiel half a step behind her. She paused when she caught sight of the shattered mirror in the bathroom, and now his bloody right hand made sense.
She made a mental note that someone needed to clean that up later. Maybe make sure there were no mirrors in the room at all.
Stone’s head raised as she drew closer, eyes taking on that alert sharpness that she had grown used to each time he caught the scent of the blood they brought.
“How’re you feeling?” she asked, but he wasn’t listening. His eyes were fixed on the bag she held in her hand.
“Stone?”
No reply, and a tensing of muscles like he was about to move.
She quickly back stepped, shoving Ezekiel back through the door and practically falling out of it himself when he launched himself from the bed after her, stopping abruptly at the door.
He fell back against the desk behind him, gripping it tightly and looking as exhausted as before, the brief moment of energy gone.
But his voice was still almost strong as he growled, “Give it to me.”
“Calm down first,” Eve forced her voice to remain calm and unaffected by the sight of her friend so painfully not himself, “Get back into bed. You’re still too injured to be up.”
There was a low growl that sounded utterly inhuman, and Stone continued to glare coldly at her.
It hurt. It hurt unbearably, but she knew what she had to do.
She just couldn’t.
“Haven’t I suffered enough?!” Stone yelled, “I need that!”
“Not til you calm down you don’t,” Ezekiel shouted back.
“We’re trying to help you,” Eve said more gently.
“Help me?” Stone laughed bitterly, “You’re tryin’ to help me? You coulda done that by leavin’ me there! You think they’d have tortured me like this?!”
The vampires had tortured him for almost two weeks. She wouldn’t put it past them.
“We’re here to help our friend, not the vampire! And until we see our Jake Stone again, we’re not giving you anything.”
Ezekiel grabbed the blood bag from Eve and turned, storming away.
“Baird,” Stone pushed himself off the desk and fell against the blank space of his doorway, “Eve. Please.”
“Ezekiel’s right,” she replied softly, stepping closer, “All the things we found suggest it’ll be easier for you to control this early on then trying to do it later. And…”
“Go away,” Stone growled, glaring up at her, “If you ain’t gonna help then leave me the hell alone!”
The shouted words cut right through every wall she had managed to build up.
Jacob Stone didn’t shout. Almost never. Maybe in a heated debate about art or architecture, but rarely even then. He spoke softly, chose his words carefully.
And this creature in front of her wasn’t the same person.
Swallowing down the lump in her throat, Eve turned and walked away.
“He’s like an addict,” Ezekiel was saying when she reached the annex, “He’s not acting like himself now, but he’s gotta still be in there.”
“The blood lust is making him act on pure instinct,” Flynn nodded, “But we have all seen vampires who have control over that.”
“We know it can be controlled,” Cassandra nodded, “And Stone had the self-control to hide his passions and who he really was from everyone he knew for like two decades. If anyone can do it, he can.”
Jenkins hummed thoughtfully and went to retrieve a book, “And perhaps that passion is how we help get through to Mr Stone…this is the book he was reading before he was taken. He spoke of a paper he was considering based on some arguments made by its author on art as a reaction to imposition by…”
He waved a hand.
“Anyway, the point is, if we can trigger the man we know using his love for art and literature, we may be able to better help him master his condition.”
“We should give him a while to calm down first. He looked ready to kill.”
Cassandra slapped Ezekiel’s shoulder, “He wouldn’t kill us.”
The thief shook his head, “Shoulda seen the look in his eyes.”
“Ezekiel’s right. Jenkins and I will try in a few hours.”
It did work.
It took some time, but before Eve went to bring the blood, Jenkins put a chair outside the door and discussed the contents of that book with Stone, a conversation that gradually began to really sound like him again. When she brought the blood, he was enough himself to be repulsed at first by the idea, and only show that feral expression for a few minutes while he drank, and briefly after it was empty.
After that, whoever brought him his small portion of blood on a given day went armed with something that might get through to the man they knew.
A quote, a book, or maybe a photo of a newly discovered piece of art or architecture, and little by little, their Jake emerged from the feral vampire, and not once did they have to sedate him.
It took almost three months to feel like it really was their friend again, during which everyone else necessarily kept up with the library’s work. Three at a time, either Eve or Flynn taking Stone’s place, and always at least two in the library to make sure Stone continued to improve.
But he did and if it wasn’t for him being locked in one room, or for the fact he preferred drinking blood to beer, Eve might have been able to convince herself nothing had changed.
“We’re thinking of removing the sigils,” Cassandra said one morning as she and Eve sat in the room with Stone while he slowly drank through the blood they brought that day, now in a beer bottle since it was more familiar and normal to him, “So you can get out of here.”
She gestured to the room, which had become filled with books and art portfolios and printed pages, and even his laptop which he never turned off or let the screen darken on, somewhere among them.
He was writing a new paper. His third since his confinement, the isolation and torment to his mind driving him to never want to stop reading or writing or analysing.
He looked up sharply from the picture he’d been examining, “No!”
“Stone, we’re not going to leave you trapped in here. We want you back out with us, as a librarian.”
“How the hell can I still be a librarian?!” he snapped back, the sudden ferocity making Cassandra jump and Eve shift between them.
Stone didn’t miss the movement and he laughed bitterly, “You’re scared of me. An’ you should be. I ain’t human anymore. I ain’t safe to be around any of you. Specially not loose. Out there. The hell happens when I lose control an’ kill some innocent person on a job, or even you?! Assumin’ I can even leave here at all. How many jobs the clippin’ book send us on that happen only at night? Hm? How many? None! I ain’t a librarian anymore an’ you gotta stop tryin’ to pretend I am! You shoulda just left me in that damn place!”
“Stop it!” Eve yelled, louder than Stone’s desperately broken rant and louder than Cassandra’s barely contained crying, “Stop!”
“No!” Stone growled, his fangs bared.
“Yes!” Eve stood, taller than him and not backing down.
He might fight her, but Eve had to believe he wouldn’t really try to kill her, and he was still not fully healed so Eve knew she would at least be able to protect Cassandra.
If it came to that.
But it wasn’t going to because Jacob Stone was still there and he still had the same self-control he had always had. He just had more stuff to control now.
“Be quiet and listen!” Eve continued when Stone made no move, neither backing down, nor attacking.
“You are still a librarian. Nothing is going to change that. Yes, things have changed, and it’s gonna take a while to figure it all out, but things have changed before, and we worked through it. Together. And that’s what we’re gonna do this time.”
“You’re not alone,” Cassandra added quietly behind him, “We want to help you.”
He shook his head, stepping back and dropping back to sit on the bed, “Why? I could kill any of you if I just lost it for just a second. I ain’t useful enough for it to be worth…”
“It’s not about being useful. It’s about us caring about you,” Cassandra said softly, “And nothing is going to change that.”
“What she said,” Ezekiel affected to be casual as he stepped through the door, “Plus we don’t know about all those silly little poets and painty guys you like so much. I sure as hell don’t want to hafta start learning to tell the difference between Cococo and baroque.”
“Rococo,” Stone corrected automatically and in a very familiar way.
“Whatever. Point is, we need you.”
Stone looked away but Eve could still almost see every emotion he was trying to bury and hide.
“Stone,” she sat down on the desk chair opposite him, “Do you still want to be a librarian?”
“‘Course I want to,” Stone whispered with tears glistening on his eyelashes as he closed his eyes, “It’s all I wan’.”
“Then you need access to the whole library, so we’re going to remove the barrier. We trust you.”
He nodded, “Could you just…just gimme a minute?”
They did.
They gave him twenty.
Cassandra removed the barrier on their way out and they went to go and try to look in the clippings book. See what weird stuff was going on.
They all made an effort to act normal when Stone finally joined them, looking almost like his old self, save for the hints of tiredness and slightly self-conscious unease. It was a bit awkward, but it was progress.
Things were going to work out.
-
Things were working out.
Sort of.
At least, everyone was pretending they were.
The library seemed to be aware, and really it almost certainly was aware, about Stone’s condition. His personal clippings book gave him jobs that he could do at night, enabling him to still be part of the team, and still be a librarian. But he did it almost entirely alone.
The main clippings book still had weird stuff that came up that needed daytime investigations, or which took the librarians into places or situations where there might be too many people for Stone to handle this soon. He was on edge and jumpy and Eve was almost certain he was suffering from trauma after all he had been through, on top of everything else.
He was being distanced by his curse, growing depressed, and distancing himself more.
But they tried to pretend it was okay, and Eve wasn’t sure why but she didn’t know how to escape that loop of false positivity. They were falling apart, and not for the first time.
When this had happened before, there had been a trigger. Something or some machination of the library or someone brought them back together.
She shouldn’t have waited for it to happen, but she did.
The trigger happened when Stone was up one morning, doing research on an artifact that needed retrieving from Norway. Something to do with salmon, Eve guessed, by the printed etchings on one page of the open book. The other page was a language she didn’t recognise, but presumably was among the several dozen Stone could read.
The moment was calm, almost felt normal. Her, Jenkins and Stone working at the central table, Flynn playing chess with Excalibur on the balcony above…
Then the door opened.
The back door, bringing Cassie and Ezekiel back from their job, and with them a shaft of sunlight. The door remained open longer than it should have, the artifact they had being large, carried between them. It held the door open, let the sunlight fall in the room, and illuminate Stone.
Within a second his exposed skin where the sun hit him ignited, bursting into flame.
Eve grabbed her coat from the stool beside her and flung it over him, shoving him away from the shaft of sunlight. At the same time, Jenkins’ lab coat was thrown over him too, and a few moments later water that Flynn had managed to acquire from somewhere. All while Stone was screaming in pain and Cassandra and Ezekiel were trying to get the artifact inside and shut the doors.
Finally the sunlight vanished, the fire was out, and Stone was left trembling violently, holding his severely burned arms away from his body.
For a moment he stayed there, staring at the injuries that on a human would have be bound to scar and take months to heal. Then in a blur - a literal blur of colour and unfocused shape - he had vanished out into the corridor and probably to his room.
That was the trigger that forced them to accept things weren’t working, and spur them into actively putting everything else on hold to find a fix.
They worked all day and all night, and part way through the following day, each taking breaks for sleep when they couldn’t go any longer.
They went through every magic or scientific or historical manuscript or rumour they could find that might have some solution to the sunlight problem. There was that mineral from the sanctuary, but that wouldn’t last more than a few days, and Cassandra didn’t believe the exact duration could be predicted. It could wear off sooner, without warning.
Layers of clothing and parasols and maybe some super strong sunscreen were also proposed, but nothing seemed viable.
At one point or another, they had each gone to check on Stone, but he had told every one of them that he wanted to be alone.
Except Jenkins, who was still with him when Flynn let out a shout of victory.
“I have it!” he thrust a book into the centre of the table, “Or, part of it.”
They all leaned over to look at the photograph of an old, worn scroll spanning both pages.
Eve raised an eyebrow, “You’re going to have to explain.”
“Well, okay, it’s only part of a solution. But here, this spell can protect those afflicted by a curse from external factors causing the curse to harm them. The external factor is the sun, and so this should stop it from interacting with his whole vampire thing and so the sun won’t harm him. Like a sort of shield. Or something. In theory.”
“That’s an awful lot of doubtful qualifications…”
“So, only part of the spell is here, but maybe we can fill in the gaps based on other spells from the same culture.”
“Okay, but magic needs power, focus and effect,” Cassandra mused, “The effect is the protection, but what’s the focus? I mean, the spell but we’d have to tie it permanently to Stone.”
“And how do we get enough power to do something like that?” Ezekiel added, “I’m guessing if it was easy, loads of vampires would do it.”
“Most vampires don’t have the library so would never have found this spell. Or the part of it…anyway! We translate this, fill in the gaps and work from there.”
“The focus!” Cassandra brightened, “The markings from the monkey king’s staff! They have magic already. That’s how we found Stone in the first place. Maybe we can extend them. Use them to bind the spell to Stone.”
”Guys,” Ezekiel interrupted, “We’re talking like he’s gonna agree to this.”
“It could be a way for him to be able to go in the sun again. He could go on missions with us again…”
“You’re suggesting practically carving a spell into a guy who never trusted magic, and trusts it even less now.”
“We used magic to find him.”
“Which he said he doesn’t think we should’ve done.”
“That wasn’t him!”
“Okay, guys,” Eve cut into their argument, “Ezekiel has a point. There’s no point going further into this until we ask Stone if he’s okay with this.”
“We’re also going to need him to translate the spell…” Flynn pointed out, “I mean, I could given time and maybe a bit of leeway for the occasional noun misplaced…but Stone knows this language. He’s translated texts in it before.”
They fell silent for several minutes, Cassandra finally breaking it quietly, “If we all go ask him together, he might feel pressured.”
“So one of us does it.”
Eve knew it fell on her. She was the guardian, and this was a job for a guardian.
She stood slowly, dreading what this question alone might do. Stone had become something he hated and they were about to offer him a small respite from that curse, using something else he hated.
Knocking on the shut door, she heard Stone’s voice from inside, “You don’t need to be so formal, Baird.”
She took a deep breath and opened the door.
Stone and Jenkins were playing an old Norse game, one she didn’t remember the names or rules of, and the pieces laid out on the leather board meant nothing to her.
The worst of his burns had been bandaged, but the less severe ones were still visible on his arms and neck and one side of his face. Already they were better than when Eve last saw him, probably thanks in part to the beer bottle of blood beside Stone on the table.
It looked like a calm moment. Companionable and pleasant. And she was about to ruin it.
“We have a plan. An idea of how we might be able to protect you from the sun.”
Stone looked up, and now Eve saw what she had feared. Exhaustion and despair barely hidden, Stone’s mask worn threadbare by the months of this curse and the torture that led to it.
“Alright,” he said softly.
“You haven’t even heard what it is.”
“It doesn’t matter. Things can’t stay as they are. I’m a burden to you all and to the library, and…”
“Jake…”
He shook his head and continued over her argument, “An’ if there’s a way to change that, I don’ care what it is. I’ll do it.”
He paused, looking directly back at her, “But if it doesn’t, you gotta stop tryin’ to help me.”
Eve didn’t want to agree to that. Agree to give up, but there was an expression of sadness so deep in Stone’s eyes that she found herself nodding, silently consenting to give up on him if this failed.
-
Stone didn’t seem happy, merely resigned, as they worked out the spell they needed and how to carry it out. But the work of translating various texts from the same era occupied him enough that Eve saw him look at least contented. Just not happy. And he never really smiled, not properly.
And now, after days of work, and a very painful few hours of Cassandra verbally burning sigils into his skin, extending the markings all down his right arm, they were ready to try.
“You sure about this?” Stone asked, for probably the fifth time, “‘Cus you know, spontaneously burstin’ into flames ain’t that fun.”
It hadn’t been fun for them either.
Sitting out in the open in Shangri-La, two fire blankets within easy reach, Eve feared the psychological consequences if this failed, more than the physical ones.
The night sky was already lightening.
Any second now the sun would breach the horizon and cast its rays onto them.
They didn’t move, barely breathed, as the first sector of the sun was seen, orange and warm, stretching over the mountain but not yet reaching them.
It extended.
The light hit their feet first, and Stone instinctively flinched although his boots protected him there.
Eve watched him.
He didn’t close his eyes.
He watched intently as the sun rose further, tensed as the light touched his exposed forearms.
A wince. The marks now extending down the entire of his right arm glowed red, sizzled, then settled back to black.
The sun rose further, bathing them in light, and no fire.
None of them spoke until long after the sun had fully escaped the horizon. Just in case a sound in that perfect morning would break the spell.
An hour, two hours, and still the fire blankets remained untouched.
Later they would repeat the test, outside of the magic city. Even if it worked, they would still never go out without at least one fire suppression method close at hand. Just in case.
But the spell had worked, at least in this moment, and Eve had felt a warmth far deeper than the sun could ever gift at the sight of Stone smiling, really, genuinely, smiling, as he turned his face to the gentle glow of the early morning light.

EVERYTHING we love about bella is stripped away by Edward and vampirism. Her clumsiness, her blush, her brown eyes. The way she loves the sun and Arizona. She loved to cook and now she will never eat again. She hated the cold and now she is cold stone. Edward discards her truck and replaces it with a brand new Mercedes’ she didn’t even like. Which always felt like symbolism to me. Some may see it as an upgrade, as a nice gift… but Bella never wanted it. Think of how EXCITED she was to get that truck and how uncomfortable she was then with the Mercedes. If Bella wanted an upgrade, SHE SHOULDVE PICKED THE CAR. But no.. Edward literally just DISCARDED IT. Bella never liked flashy things or parties but now she’s subjected to that forever.
I think it’s fucking insane that people will say theyre Team Edward cause they’re not “anti-choice.” What did y’all read bc….. what. Just because Bella chooses to be a vampire? To die? She was OBSESSED with the easy way out. She was obsessed with Edward cause they were trauma bonded and she had such horrific self esteem. Just cause Bella chose to be a vampire doesn’t make it a good thing. It is a tragedy and always will be to me. Unless you never gave a fuck about her as a human I suppose. 😗✌️ Bella is an unreliable narrator and was under vampire thrall. Bella was severely traumatized by Edward and felt worthless as a human. Bella had a chance to grow with Jacob and she WOULD HAVE. But she would have PTSD that she could work through. You may be like “she would’ve never gotten over edward.” Yeah she would’ve and she would’ve realized that him haunting her was all Stockholm syndrome.
I’m not “anti choice” for acknowledging Bella’s choice was the wrong one. ExB’s relationship ruined lives, killed people, put the wolfpack through literal HELL and eventually enslaved the wolfpack to them. All for “love” LMAO! It wasn’t love, it was obsession, bloodlust, trauma bonding, low self worth, co dependency.
Anyway. I started a Breaking Dawn rewrite fic where Bella realizes all this shit and heals.

For a school assignment, I'm assembling an anthology around the theme of queer divinity and desire, but I'm having a hard time finding a fitting essay/article (no access to real academic catalogues :/ ), do you know of any essays around this theme?
below are essays, and then books, on queer theory (in which 'queer' has a different connotation than in regular speech) in the hebrew bible/ancient near east. if there is a particular prophet you want more of, or a particular topic (ištar, or penetration, or appetites), or if you want a pdf of anything, please let me know.

Very interesting the connections that Ketu and Jupiter has with Frankenstein's monsters.
In the upcoming film "Bride" Jessie Buckley will play the Bride of Frankenstein and Christian Bale will play Frankenstein's monster.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Both are Ketuvian. She's Mula Sun, and he is Ashwini Moon. The film is made by Maggie Gyllenhaal who is a Vishakha Sun.
Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller in (National Theatre Live 2011) "Frankenstein" interchangeably play the Creature (Frankenstein's monster) and Victor Frankenstein. Benedict Cumberbatch is an Ashwini Moon and Jonny Lee Miller is a Vishakha Sun.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The play was literally directed by Ashwini Moon Danny Boyle.
In the film "Lisa Frankenstein", Magha Ascendant Cole Sprouse plays a corpse from the Victorian-era who was resurrected to life (named Creature, commonly being Frankenstein's monster), and his love interest is played by Shatabhisha Moon Kathryn Newton as Lisa Frankenstein. The film is directed by Punarvasu Moon Zelda Williams.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cole Sprouse's character reminds me of Emily the Corpse Bride from the film "Corpse Bride", voiced by Magha Moon Helena Bonham Carter and the movie being made by Magha Sun Tim Burton.
Tumblr media
What I found so interesting was how the internet is intuitively sensitive to Ketu energies as they have connected Laura Harrier to this character in online fan-casting. Laura Harrier is literally an Ashwini Moon.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the film "Van Helsing" Frankenstein's monster is now played by a Jupiterian instead of a Ketuvian. Purva Bhadrapada Sun Shuler Hensley.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Purva Bhadrapada Moon Daniel Radcliffe, though he plays Igor, Frankenstein's sickly hunchback assistant, in the film "Victor Frankenstein". And in this film it is Ashwini Sun James McAvoy who played Victor Frankenstein.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And Tim Burton's "Frankenweenie" animation movie, it is Mula Moon Charlie Tahan who voices young Victor Frankenstein who resurrects his dog.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Purva Bhadrapada Moon Jacob Elordi will be playing Frankenstein in Guillermo Del Toro's retelling of the story, ultimately replacing Purva Bhadrapada Ascendant Andrew Garfield who was up for the role. AND Purva Bhadrapada Sun Oscar Isaac will be playing Victor Frankenstein.

A couple of years ago, I remember Scarlett Johansson was in talks for a "Bride of Frankenstein" movie, and this was never heard of again. I doubt the project has been finalized or proceeded, considering the fact that it's been four years now. But still noteworthy as she is Vishakha Moon so perfectly fits this post.
Tumblr media
Vishakha Sun Emma Stone stars in the film "Poor Things", based on a book with the same name which is a clever feminist retelling of Mary Shelley's known work.
A film quite aligned with "Poor Things" is actually "Frankenhooker", being that the 'Creature' is a victimized female, starring Punarvasu Sun Patty Mullen who plays a girlfriend accidentally killed by her scientist boyfriend and is resurrected by him with the use of her head and separate body parts of deceased prostitutes.
Tumblr media
This film was literally directed by Magha Sun and Purva Bhadrapada Moon Frank Henenlotter.
Mary Shelley, the creator of the tale of Frankenstein, was a Mula Moon and Ardra Ascendant, a gothic novelist whose work is considered one of the earliest work of science fiction 🖤
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Literally went into more examples about Ketu's connections to transcendence, life, death, resurrection etc. in part 2 of my Ketu exploration. And also my vampire post.

I’m sorry to be a bother but it’s been a while since I’ve read the books… you say in many of your answers that Bella’s body was changed as soon as she got pregnant? Where in text did you read this part that supports this? I don’t recall any mention of Bella’s insides turning to stone in Breaking Dawn. I know Carlisle said the placenta was hard like their skin and they couldn’t see anything on the ultrasound but Edward seemed pretty convinced they could perform the procedure and still save Bella. How do the hybrids tear their way out of the womb if their mothers insides are made of stone?
Anon, I'm afraid you've come to the wrong blog, "Edward seemed pretty convinced" is a statement that bears no weight here and is often, in fact, taken as evidence of the opposite being true.
Edward was also pretty convinced that the Volturi would completely forget about Bella's human lifespan when only a few weeks after New Moon had taken place, Jane asks "Why no Bella turned?" and Alice then sends a wedding invitation to the Volturi specifically to stall them from showing up and asking "Why no Bella turned?" only a few weeks after that. Edward still believes.
"Edward seemed pretty convinced" indeed.
I mean, you mention it yourself, the ultrasound doesn't work and when Bella feels her abdomen (when she gets nudges) she notices that not only does she have a baby bump but the skin there is incredibly cold to the touch and much more solid than human skin, e.g. like a vampire's.
Not to mention that as of two weeks Bella is unable to digest human food (it's just that they don't realize this, so it takes until Jacob shows up to realize she needs human blood that for... some... reason... works...)
Then of course add that they knew human instruments wouldn't work and that the plan was always, from the beginning, to have to cut Bella open with their teeth because nothing else would work and we're looking at "there's been a bad change here and I don't think she's coming back from it".
As for how the hybrid tears its way out, they seem to be born with functional teeth (unlike humans) and that those teeth are those of a vampire's which means that just like Edward's teeth can cut through the womb, so can the hybrid's from the other direction.
It's just that Edward really really really really really really wanted Bella to stay human, as does Jacob, and Jacob doesn't quite realize the severity of what he's seeing and what it means.

i dont know if you take request s but i really need this one i havent found anyone doing it. i really need headcanons with cullen their mate being turkish (like her english is good but like classical turkish things yk being angry at the smallest things, making fun of everything, being very kind and welcoming but looks so serious all the time and please if you can make her pretty as a valpire). its ok if you dont take requests 💗. and im sorry if i couldnt express myself english is not my first language.
hi! i tried my best and i add other islamic countries because i don't know if you wear hijab or not and i also wanted to give some love to my ladies with hijabs so there are some parts with hijab in every character, i hope you like it because i put a lot of work in it!
Twilight characters dating islamic reader
ft. carlise, emmet, rosalie, edward, jasper, alice, jacob, seth, paul, bella
Tumblr media
a/n: guys i'm not from islamic country so i apologize for any mistakes, i don't want to make anyone upset nor angry, it is also not really good because i don't know much about this culture so... i tried my best, hope you like it!
༺☆༻
⤷ Carlise Cullen
-Carlise would love your constant switching emotions. at one time you are calm, kind, welcoming to everyone and a lovely wife and then out of the sudden you trip over your dress and you are now yelling over the whole house, then mumbling something in turkish (your native language) underneath your breath that no cullen understands and Carlise is just smiling while looking at you.
he'd want to know about Turkey (or other islamic country) and what is it like, i belive he visited Turkey (or other islamic countries) but just for two weeks max so... he didn't really explored the culture and he wants to hear you speak about your homeland and family and stories, he just loves it.
he'd love to see you cook your favourite food or some traditional meals or snacks from your childhood because he wants to educate himself about your country, but he cannot eat it which makes him kinda mad, about the educating; he'll also search some Turkish (or other islamic country) words and when he's feeling really flirty, he'll tell you something in turkish to impress you
if you're wearing a hijab, he'd be again very respectful and if anyone did you wrong, he'd have your back and be right next to you glaring and "politely" telling the person to fuck off
⤷ Emmett Cullen
-Emmett would love to tease you just to see you being mad. he will poke your belly a bit or (gently) kick your feet so you trip over and when you are being all angry, again mumbling something in your native language probably something how you gonna kill him and all, he's just there laughing on the ground.
sometimes he would get confused because you look so serious at all the time and sometimes you talk with serious, stone hard face without even realizing it, so if you tell him a joke with dead serious face he'd stand there blank look on his face, yk yk.
you can use it against him, because when you are really mad he's scared of you. and you are the only one he listens to.
he'd love to try and eat every single food you have in Turkey (other islamic country) or snacks or drinks, but because he's a vampire he cannot so you are just telling him what each food is like and what's inside etc.,, he can listen for hours to this
if you're wearing a hijab he'd definitely would use it for another teasing, like gently tugging on it or placing bananas on top of your head yk.
⤷ Rosalie Hale/Cullen
-Rosalie have always found islamic women so pretty. she always thought that they are the most beautiful women on earth, just their energy made her feel some kind of way...
so she is considering herself extremely lucky to date you, like really. she even thinks that you are more beautiful than her, which shows how much she actually love you.
she also has bad temper so when you are mad on the smallest thing, she's mad with you just because
sometimes people say you two are siblings because both of you have your serious face all the time, when people say that both of you are mad, you "yelling" on that person and Rosalie growling under her breath ready to attack this person
but when she sees you looking out of window, calmly breathing with sun rays slightly touching your soft features, she smiles to herself while being glad that she has you
if you're wearing a hijab, she'd want you to teach her how to make it and then she will do it for you. she'd find you even more beautiful because she can just look at your pretty clear face without hair in it and admire you.
⤷ Edward Cullen
-Edward reads a lot so i believe he knows a lot about your homeland and culture but he lied to you and told you that he never heard of it so you have to tell him about it, so he can hear you talk.
he didn't realize how many interesting thoughts he'd hear, i mean at one time he can hear you thinking about that pretty nail polish you've bought and after few minutes he hears some turkish (or other islamic language) words without knowing the meaning and then english words where you say you messed up that nail polish.
he'd probably could speak with you in your native language because he hears so many words (thoughts) in your native language so that he remembers them and know the meaning.
he'd play for you on piano some turkish (or other) songs he has found on the internet just to impress you and it was such a romatic gesture.
he'd be really interested in music at your homeland because it would make him feel more close to you.
⤷ Jasper Hale/Cullen
-Jasper is "old" cowboy so you two just somehow clicked. somehow there was a chemistry that just mixed your vibes and made a perfect couple yk.
he'd sneak into your room at night and listen to stories from your homeland and then he would tell you some stories from time when he was a human.
Jasper can feel your emotions so if you are tired of your bad temper just tell him and he will calm you whenever he feels that you are getting angry.
that's why you two are such a perfect couple, because you help him control his thirst and he helps you to control your emotions, so both of you are focusing on different things that doesn't involve you which means you are even calmer
you two agreed on that you are gonna pull out the "in pain face" card whenever one of you is feeling uncomfortable so
if you're wearing a hijab, Jasper would make sure no one makes you uncomfortable even more because people at Forks are not used to seeing women wearing a hijab and some kids at school can be pretty mean...
⤷ Alice Cullen
-Alice knew that her mate will be from Turkey (or other islamic country) so she had some time to get ready. she read something on the internet and she borrowed some books from Carlise or Esme about islamic countries so she could be prepared
she was very opened and VERY interested in your homeland and your traditions, so she would want to know every single detail! because she didn't wanted to disrespect you, not even the smallest
sometimes she could see when you will become angry, so she either wants to see you angry because she thinks you look cute or she will do anything to prevent it, depends on her mood
you two are the definition of sunshine x grumpy, because Alice is always smiling and kind and loving... you on the other hand are also kind and loving but your face looks like a stone so you kinda scare Alice's bullies away
Alice would be really interested in your traditional dresses just because she likes fashion and she likes to talk about it. so you two will lay in bed, you holding a photo of you in you traditional dress in your hands and she pointing at each suture and decoration
if you're wearing a hijab, she would love to style it for you or put cute stickers on it (if you let her)
⤷ Jacob Black
-Jacob would LOVE it! because when you are angry you cringe your nose in such a cute was, he's not scared at all he finds it funny because there is no way you could beat him.
he would be very protective because sometimes you and Paul argue which can lead Paul to shift so Jacob is here to protect you in that case.
but your welcoming and loving side is his favourite. when you treat him like a puppy, yeah really. when you stroke his cheek while saying "good job, baby" when he fixed his bike, his pupils will go bigger and he will follow you around like a puppy.
he'd eat everything you make, like everything. so when you started making you traditional food and snacks (with Emily's help) he ate it all and then say how much he liked it.
he will crave your both initials into a small piece of wood and gave it to you as a good luck charm, and when you asked him what's his lucky charm he answered with simple "you".
if you're wearing a hijab he will make sure that it's clean because there is a lot of wolf hair around the house.
⤷ Seth Clearwater
-Seth will also love when you are angry but because you look so hot! so he will just stare in awe and then take you to his room and kiss you all over
he will also start stare fights, like who can last longer without blinking but he will always lose and laugh at your serious face.
he can become really protective when someone is disrespecting you, and by that i mean he'll go feral if someone slightly disrespects you he'll tear them apart. he maybe looks cute but he's a real monster in his wolf form, to you he's just a big puppy
he will eat every traditional snack that you can offer, some small candy your grandma made when you couldn't sleep or some salty chip your mother fried when you wanted, he will eat it ALL.
when you cuddle with him, he will put his face into your neck and breath in your scent because that calms him down, knowing that you are here with him, safe
if you're wearing hijab he will make sure no one touches it or no one is making you uncomfortable with questions because if yes, oh lord...
⤷ Paul Lahote
-Paul again finds you anger sexy and cute at the same time so it depends if he's in a heat or not, and if you say you get angry at the smallest things well then you two will do a lot of cardio...
Paul, like every other shape-shifter will eat everything! if it's from you then TWICE of everything! he then uses the energy and calories to his wolf body which makes him even stronger than he already is!
he's also very possessive and protective, like a LOT! especially if it's a guy that's bothering you, he will beat him up like crazy i can tell
if you cup his face into your hands and kiss him "hard" on the lips, he will melt into you. he loves when you surprise him with kisses and affection...
he LOVES when you talk to him in your native language, call him baby in your native language and his full attention will be on you, he will come to you as soon as he hears your voice; put his hands on your waist and just stare into your eyes
if you're wearing a hijab he'll ask a lot of questions about it and then growl at everyone who starts talking about it, even at Sam
⤷ Bella Swan
-Bella would be shy from the start so she will just look at you with blank stare without knowing what to do because you were fine few minutes ago, now you are yelling at some ladybug that scared you.
but she will get used to it and then just giggle at you, she will also learn few turkish (other islamic language) words just to impress you but it will take her a bit more time to really say them to you
she will love to hear you stories while you're playing with her hair, she will lay her head on your lap and just close her eyes, listening to your calming voice telling her some fairy tail that you grandma used to tell you while you're stroking her hair
she will try some candy or sweet snacks from your country and some good meal that's not spicy, because i feel like she's not really a fan of spicy food
she often does some movements with her face like with her lips or eyes or eyebrows and she finds it so fascinating that you can stare at the tv with serious face... wow...
if you're wearing hijab she will look at you while you make it and how you tug your hair perfectly inside, gorgeous.
i feel like this is so bad, i really hope you like it!

“What does it feel like when you shift?” Evita asks you once she had gathered all the stones she needed. You’re both heading back to Sam’s so that he could drive you to Port Angeles. While it was for the warding spell, you were excited to get out of the small bubble that was La Push. It had been so long since you had last broken free from the comforts of the rez. And you were really starting to like Evita. Hanging out with her was starting to feel so natural. Her personality was warm and inviting. The fact that she was part of your world helped a great deal too. You had a few female friends at school, but there was so much you had to keep from them. Things that would probably scare them.
Not Evita though. She’d even seen things that you had yet to experience. All for the best if the lechuza was the worst of it.
To the best of your abilities, you described the shivering sensation that took hold of you in the beginning before each individual cell in your body burst. Phasing released the wolf that lay under the surface of your skin. Shedding free the human exoskeleton, you were powerful.
Almost back in the perimeter of Sam’s backyard, Evita stops and turns to you. “Ah yes. I forgot about something. I’ll need something of both you and Edward’s to perform the bond cutting spell. Preferably something that has your DNA on it. If that’s even possible to acquire from vampires.”
Blood, saliva or hair were all acceptable. Immediately a blood sample was out of the question. Vampires didn’t bleed. Getting either of the other two required you to actually tell Edward what you were planning with Evita. He’d approve of it though. . . If it allowed Bella to come back to him, surely he would want to try anything and everything.
You tell Evita that you’d be right back. You want to have everything ready for when both of you return from Port Angeles. The sooner the better. And if it fails, at least you could say you tried.
The path to the Cullen house was becoming so familiar to you. How many times had you taken this same route? Taking the porch steps two at a time now opposed to your tentative steps when you were first invited over.
Alice opens the door the moment your foot steps on the welcome mat. “(Y/n)! It’s good to see you!”
You smile, sharing the same pleasantries before getting down to business. “Evita says she has a way to absolve the imprinting. If this works then we won’t even have to worry about the Volturi coming here again!”
Her frown wasn’t something you’d anticipated. “Oh.”
“Is he home?” You press on while silently observing the subtle change in her features. Disappointment remains on her petite face.
“He’s actually with Carlisle. Their taking Carmen and Eleazor to meet Bella.”
Brows lift up in astonishment. From Jacob, you heard that Charlie was adamant on keeping a distance between Bella and the Cullens. Edward was never his favorite but now his dislike curdled into hatred. Hating that all along, Bella had been in danger for so many months and he was the last to know the truth.
Without having telepathic capabilities, even Alice understood the surprise that widened your eyes. “The only reason why they’re allowed over is because of Carlisle and the fact that Bella may still be in danger.”
“Well. . . I guess it could wait until he gets back. Um, do vampires even produce saliva?” The question you ask as a second thought.
“(y/n). . . Do you really want to do this?”
Gaping at her in utter confusion, you find yourself looking down at the wood of the front porch. “I- yes. Yes I want to do this. It would fix all of our problems.”
Alice didn’t seem to think so. Her continued frowning told you as much. She tears her citrine stare away to look off to the side. “I don’t want to interfere or tell you what to do. But I don’t think this is something you should mess around with. If you and Ed are meant to be together-“
“We’re not though. Everything about us just doesn’t make sense. Regardless of fate, this is a mistake. We’re not bound to each other out of love. We’ve hardly had the proper time to get to know one another.” You shake your head. Out of all the things about being a wolf, imprinting was a deal breaker. If Evita was able to succeed, then not just you but everyone else in your pack could have a semblance of power back in your control. What happened with Sam could be prevented. “And what he and Bella had. . . I don’t think that’s something that can be easily erased with something like imprinting.”
Edward was willing to wage a war for her against powerful enemies. That was a special kind of love. That’s what you saw in shows and read in books. A mere fling wouldn’t risk their life.
Viciously, you rub your fist along your eyes that well up with tears. Alice must have already seen them for she reaches a hand out to comfort you but you shirk away from her touch. More so embarrassed than anything else. Hastily you compose yourself and attempt to speak again past the wavering quality of your voice. “This has to be done.”
She’s at a loss of what to say to stop you. You saw how it pained her.
Taking a deep breath, you make your way down the streps slowly. “I’ll text to him to give me a call when he can.” Inside you full heartedly acknowledged Alice may not relay a message due to her evident reluctance.
Behind you, you catch the sound of her shoe scuffing against the boards; preparing to go after you. After that first step though, Alice stops. Instead her heavy gaze drills into your back. Each like a mournful arrow.
She should be happy.
This would stop anymore fighting and you could continue with your life.
“If you two don’t make sense, then why are you the only shape-shifter I can see the future of?” Her voice has a bite, pulling you to a halt.
This may very well be her only opening. Alice took whatever chance she got her hands on. “The visions are painful, but they come to me when you’re in great danger. When I try to look into the future regarding the other wolves. . . I just get a splitting headache with no result. I know this just can’t be a mistake. You need to accept that.”
That did it. Warm and shameful, they slid down your cheeks and dribble onto the front of your shirt. Forcing your legs to move, you held your breath; refusing to breathe until you breach the trees that line their estate. Ignoring the buzzing in your ears that make your lips tremble.
Wasn’t this the right thing to do?
**
For the third time in five minutes, Edward tried to ignore the nagging vibrations of his phone along with the vague call of Alice’s voice echoing in his mind. Now was not the time.
The four vampires sat awkwardly in Chief Swan’s living room. Said man stood behind the armchair which his daughter presided in.
Bella.
She looked better, much better since the last time Edward had seen her. Healthy although still pale but that was her usual palor.
Her rich, chestnut eyes keep his attention. At least she was looking at him. Under her dark lashes were faint blue bruises that whisper to Edward her lack of sleep.
“It’s such a pleasure to finally meet you, Bella.” Carmen smiled to ease the suffocating air in the room. Men were such volatile idiots.
Bella brought up a small smile that did little to ease the tension set in her jaw. “Edward has told me so many things about the Denali coven. It’s good to meet you too.” That was true. Edward had said good things about the Alaskan vampires and Bella really was happy to meet some other vampires that were civil. The fact that they were here though didn’t bode well.
Abruptly, Alice’s voice screams at him from miles away. Edward stood to excuse himself and rush into the kitchen where he fished out his phone and finds Alice’s name on his phone. The calls he had missed were from her.
What could be so urgent?
“Alice?” He held the phone up to his ear.
“Edward! About time! You have to stop (y/n).” Her voice is tersely clipped. “She’s going to have that witch break the imprint.”
Fear actually made him feel ill. Thumping heavily in his gut. Whether it was possible did cross his mind, but he’d learned by now that anything could exist and anything was possible. Even witches. Again (y/n) was going to try to defy her lupine instinct that as ingrained in all Quileute shape-shifters. Last time nearly got both (y/n) and Sam killed.
He made for the back door in the kitchen that led outside. Bella’s voice from the living room has Edward pausing. If he stayed and let (y/n) go through with whatever she was planning, then maybe Bella would go back to him.
If he left, he would officially be choosing a life with the wolf girl. A girl he hardly knew.
And yet, all he could think of was (y/n)’s smile. All he could hear was her laugh. She was warm and being around her felt like home. He could truly be himself around her. Monster and all. She would understand.
A life with her certainly wouldn’t be easy. Not like a life with Bella had been simple either. Vampires and wolves were on opposites sides of a spectrum. By nature they were enemies.
Against all odds though, (y/n) and Edward had proven to be the perfect match. She was his other half that Edward had been searching for in Bella.
Teeth biting into his bottom lip, Edward pivots and goes back to the living room where all eyes are on him. "I apologize but I have to leave."
"Is everything okay?" Carlisle immediately asked, preparing to stand up from the couch but Edward shook his head.
"Everything is fine. I just. . . I forgot I had something to do. Alice called to remind me." Anxiously he casts a glance at Bella who was trying to read what was really going on underneath his complacent words. Could she tell that he was about to permanently change his life?
Edward Carlisle and the Denali couple that he would see them back at home. For now though he had to leave immediately.

Can you write a oneshot were Bellas sister is kidnapped and bitten by Victoria during Eclipse and when the Volturi come to talk to Victoria Alec sees Bellas sister almost done woth her transformation so he takes her. Alec keeps her close to him as he teaches her about being a vampire, claiming her as his mate.
The Second Daughter
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The mountain top was cold and the only when you woke up. To be fair, it was cold when you fell asleep too. Fatigue clouding your mind, wanting to slip back into your unconscious state to preserve your body heat.
You stumbled out of the tent when you heard voices arguing outside. You then felt a frozen hand around your neck, a bundle of red hair filled your peripheral vision.
"I don't think Bella would want her dear little sister hurt, Edward. I wouldn't mind killing her, she smells almost as appealing as Bella."
Edward didn't move or make a sound. Edward didn't care if you got hurt in place of Bella. Bella also stood still. She didn't know what to do. That hesitation costed you your life.
Her fangs sunk into your skin. Draining you of blood and filling you with her burning venom. You screamed as the fire coursed through your veins and tears fell down your face.
"No!" Bella shrieked and she remembered the story she heard from the Pack elders. She grabbed a jagged stone from the ground and sliced her arm, drawing Victoria's attention away from you.
The blood trickling down Bella's forearm distracted Victoria enough for Edward to get his hands around her and pull until her body dropped to the ground with a heavy thud. As he took a lighter out and dropped it on her, Bella raced to your side as you thrashed on the ground.
"Edward, Edward, you have to help her please."
Edward looked sadly as her as he said, "I'm sorry Bella, but the venom has spread to far." He stood still for a moment, "The Volturi are coming, we should meet them in the clearing." He lifted up your body as Bella climbed on his back.
The fight in the clearing was almost over when you arrived. The Cullen family giving you a sad look as a cry was heard from Jacob. The Pack carried him away before the Volturi guards arrived, under Carlisle's instruction.
As soon as the Cullen's came into their view, Alec locked eyes on your withering body. He felt the connection instantly and turned his head to meet his sister's gaze and silently communicate with her.
The guards stopped in front of the Cullens and heard their tale of the incident. Edward's eyes shifted from Alec and Jane.
"And the girl?" Alec inquired, looking at you.
Bella looked panicked, "She's my sister."
Carlisle quickly jumped in, "Be assured, she will join us. We will teach her everything."
"She's his mate." Edward said, grimacing.
Alec nodded once in confirmation, "Yes and she will come with us. We should wait this process out at your dwelling as to not frighten her when she wakes."
The Cullens could not disagree, especially not when Alec wasn't really asking. With the situation dealt with, Alec carried you in his arms toward the Cullen's house where the first day was spent watching the venom torture you until your body finally stilled as dusk. The following two days were spent waiting for your eyes to open and shine a vibrant red.
When your eyes did open, memories of Victoria's attack flashed in your mind and you sat up with an unnecessary gasp.
Your sense were overloaded as you heard and smelled everything around you. You were about to panic as you looked around the room full of the Cullens when your eyes landed on him. Bella told you about the Volturi, but she never mentioned how breathtaking he was. Alec Volturi.
The connection between you two calmed you down enough for you to be told what had happened by Carlisle, but your eyes never left him.
"Wait, I'm leaving?" That part caught your attention. "I can't just leave! I have a life here."
Esme looked at you sadly and held your hand, "I'm sorry sweetie, I really am, but the life you knew died when you did."
You felt like crying, tears would normally be stinging your eyes now, but they were dry. All of it made you sad, confused, and angry. You gripped the couch seat you were now sitting on so hard it tore until you had a handful of cushion and fabric in your fist.
"I'm sorry, I didn't-" You began to apologize, opening your hand and dropping the remains like it was made of fire.
"We know sweetie."
"You'll live with us." His voice nearly took you out and you met his gaze.
"Why?"
Alec was conscious of everyone looking at the two of you and he did was still technically on the job, so the smile he wanted to give you never reached his lips. "Based on how you're reacting to your transformation, I believe you know Tesora."
You were confused by the name but still nodded in understanding. You were like Bella and Edward, Alice and Jasper, Rosalie and Emmett. You understood perfectly.
"This is a lot, but I understand."
Tumblr media
note: So I don't think that the Volturi came to Forks during eclipse to talk to Victoria, I really think they came to see if things would go south and if it did then they would have then they would have killed the newborns and maybe the Cullens bc Aro clearly wanted to possess Alice and Edward. I also don't think that vampires claim their mate. It is sort of just like a soulmate link, they just know (correct me if im wrong pls!) Also, the title is based off the second son trope and how they usually end up sacrificed or looked over because of their older brother. Also if you see typos and don't tell me then you're homophobic

Okay here’s what I like to imagine what happened to everyone after the series ended:
Eve and Flynn are the eternal Librarian and Guardian obviously. They bicker but they love each other, Flynn gives advice but also I think he runs interference for when the outside world gets librarian or magical issues (like the wiki leaks of DOSA files lol). Baird takes care of the books, just like Charlene showed her too. She also trains new teams for combat, to make sure they’re safe. The magical community always love hearing the updates from the new librarians teams about “mom and dad”
But I think probably after a few years Jenkins decides he is ready to retire (he misses Charlene and Judson) so they spend some time finding an artifact to let him go peacefully
But they need a new caretaker, good thing there’s a perfect replacement to train around: Cassandra! She becomes immortal and the new library caretaker. She carried on with some of Jenkins research but also with a lot of her own. If she’s not at the library you can find her at some fancy resort, rumor has it she’s hanging out with some vampire but no one really knows
Ezekiel gets another job offer a few years later too, the Bank of Thieves needs someone to run it after all! I think he becomes immortal and runs it in a very Robin Hood style lol. He also maybe helps fund this organization a good friend of his told him about, he doesn’t know the specifics but any Leverage Intl employee gets some fancy perks at the bank
Jacob Stone stays a librarian for a good more years, and gets to lead his own team of new and young librarians. Maybe Eve joins to train a guardian or two (maybe some familiar faces we’ve seen from adventures lol). I think he follows his mentors precedent and retires when he’s ready though, and runs a ranch for retired race horse (probably with a nice lady lol). The team misses him dearly over the centuries but they understand immortality isn’t for everyone

[ID: Sketch in black and white with only blood shown in red of Jacob Stone chained up to a wall by his wrists, and his head lolling forward in unconsciousness, as a silhouetted figure walks away through a door into a lighter area. There is blood soaked into Jake's shirt sleeves and front, and spattered over his neck and the side of his face. End ID]
-
Day 20: Dehumanization
Jake being held by a vampire and fed on regularly
Ficlet below the cut - warning: blood and hurt with very little comfort (there is a follow on later in the month)
-
Jake really hated vampires.
He had hated them from the start, questioned slightly his hatred after meeting a not actually evil vampire, and now he hated them absolutely, completely, entirely again.
There was no daylight in this place, which made sense for vampires, but it meant he had no way of knowing how long he’d been here.
The intermittent periods of unconsciousness from blood loss didn’t exactly help with that.
At least at this point he was so exhausted from the repeated feedings that he didn’t really feel, or maybe his mind didn’t register, the pain anymore.
His wrists used to hurt from the metal restraints, especially if he tried to move.
And there had been the waves of intermittent piercing agony and dull throbbing of the side of his neck, the insides of his forearms, the insides of his thighs…all the sites the vampires bit into him…five or six vampires or maybe more…it was dark and seemed to be getting always darker, like shadows encroaching from the corners of the room.
There was one vampire in charge.
That was the only one who ever fed from his neck, and he was taller than the rest. Much taller than Jake. He had a grip tighter and more relentless than the iron that bound Jake to the wall.
During moments of consciousness and lucid thought, Jake hoped to himself that Cassie had got out safe.
He remembered them coming across the vampires while trying to retrieve an artefact. He put himself between them and Cassandra, shoved her towards the door that Jenkins had just opened, but he was unconscious before he saw whether or not she got through.
There was every possibility she had not. That she was chained up in some other dark, cold room in this place, subject to the same torments that he was.
But she would have got through.
She definitely would. There was no way she didn’t make it out safely. Jake just couldn’t accept that as a possibility.
He would probably have seen her if she hadn’t, back on his almost successful escape attempt, back before these chains. Back when he had the ability to sit and walk and move around, before he had become nothing more than an on-site buffet for the vampires and the plaything of their leader.
That escape attempt had taken him out of the cell after punching two vampires who had come for him and making a break for the exit. He had made it all along a corridor to the elevator at the end. He had made it inside, hit the button for the thing to rise above the basement level, but before it could move the doors were wrenched open and the leader strode in, absurdly cliche leather coat swathed around him.
The bastard had laughed, amused by the attempted escape, by Jake’s efforts to fight back as four of the creatures cornered him in that elevator.
It had probably been a hell of a piece of work to clean the blood off the walls. And even more of a piece of work if the vampires had tried to explain it to anyone else who might be in the building, using that same elevator.
After that, he woke up chained to the wall.
Not once had they removed those chains.
He still tried to fight. To kick or headbutt or something, but it was always a wasted effort, and each attempt was weaker than the last.
They bit through the fabric of his clothes until it was torn too much to be in the way at all. If Jake lived long enough, the feeding sites would probably fester, become infected, with the patches and threads of his jeans and shirt shoved deep into the wounds.
And maybe he would live long enough… The vampires were keeping him alive. They were making sure that he stayed alive. And if they kept him alive longe enough, or his friends would come and save him. His fading mind fooled him repeatedly, making him think one of them was there, taking out the vampires, turning them to ash, coming to save him…
But if they hadn’t by now, they probably never would.
He heard the now familiar ping of the elevator doors opening and closing.
He counted the seconds.
One, two, three, four…
The door to his cell opened.
He readied himself to kick out at his assailant. Make it difficult. Make them work for their meal.
He threw a sluggish right thrusting kick towards the tall vampire who stepped up before him.
His leg was caught, yanked forward, straining his shoulders with his wrists still fixed to the walls. The monster held him there for several seconds before shoving him roughly back against the wall, his back and head slamming into the hard surface.
No time to breathe, not time to try again.
The vampire stepped up close, crushing him against the wall, pinning him into it.
Jake tried to resist as the vampire grabbed his hair to yank his head to the side, but he didn’t have any more resistance to offer.
The fangs sank deep into his neck, some blood spraying at the initial puncture, overlaying what blood had been left to dry on his skin before.
It was probably only a few minutes, but it felt eternal, the blood being pulled from his body, slowly, indulgently, until the darkness crept closer.
It would engulf him soon and bring the peace of unconsciousness, long before the vampire had finished.
-
“Stop!” Eve had reached her limit a long time ago, but even still she checked her anger and softened her voice when she repeated the word, “Stop. Please.”
“Stop?” Flynn frowned, “Stop what?  Stop why?  I thought we were-”
“Stop talking. Please. Just…stop talking,” she sighed, “Unless something you’re saying will help us find Stone.”
It had been over a week.
Cassandra had been the only one to return from what should have been a routine artefact retrieval, being propelled with unexpected violence right through the back door.  And then the door closed sharply behind her.
When they opened it, stepped back into the passage she had been in, ready to fight, it was empty.  There was no one there.
Some signs of a struggle, of a fight, but Stone was gone and there was nothing there to lead them to him.
They’d been following dead end leads for nine days now, and each passing hour gave whoever took him more time to hide.  The probability of finding him, and finding him alive, dwindled each day they failed.
Most of all, she was angry and frustrated because there was nothing she could do.  She had exhausted all her expertise and knowledge and even connections in the initial stages of the search, and they had yielded nothing.  The task necessarily fell on the librarians, who were far from the coherent unit they usually were, with Cassandra blaming herself for Stone disappearing, and everyone else trying to stay positive to lessen her pain.
Eve looked up from the book she had been failing to read on known magical entities in the part of Los Angeles Stone had disappeared in.  The back door had opened, admitting Ezekiel and Cassandra.
And they were smiling.  Or, as close to smiling as they had managed in weeks.
“We have something!” Cassandra declared, “The Monkey King’s staff has a very distinctive magical signature, which we theorised Stone would have too because of the mark it left on him, and so we…”
Eve half blanked out the complex mathemagics explanation that she launched excitedly into, relieved when Ezekiel summarised in English, “We have a possible location for Stone.”
He held up his phone, revealing a map with a red circle on it.
“Where?” Eve moved around the table as Flynn took the phone, examining the map.
“Multistorey office suite in downtown San Francisco,” Flynn mused, “Not where I would choose to hold my hostage.”
“This is assuming the spell actually worked, and the staffs magic is a match to Stone’s.”
Cassandra shot Ezekiel a desperate look.
“Which it probably did and it probably is…so, what’s the plan?”
“We need a breakdown of everyone who has offices in there,” Eve began, her spirits rising with the very real, very immediate, problem to solve, “How long have they been there, are they a legitimate business, and so on?”
“On it!” Cassandra raised her hand.
“Jones…”
“Security profile of the building,” he nodded, and disappeared with Cassandra to get to work.
“I’ll go look into the history of the building and the location,” Jenkins said with a slight awkwardness that was explained after he followed the others from the room, and she turned right into Flynn’s unexpected embrace.
“We’re going to find him, Eve,” he said in that soft, gently, kind voice that was so rarely used that it held such a greater significance when it was, “Alive.”
He pulled back, taking her hands in his, “I’m sure of it.”
Eve hadn’t realised she had been so obviously afraid, so clearly rattled by this whole thing…but, maybe she wasn’t as good at hiding her emotions as she once was.
Stone had seen right through her when she was heartbroken over Flynn leaving again, and that was over a year ago now.
Her walls were getting progressively lower.
“If we don’t…” she began the sentence but there was no way to end it that she could voice.
“But we will.  Stone’s stubborn,” Flynn smiled at her, “Maybe more stubborn than me, and you know how bad I am.”
“I do.”
“So he’s going to be fine.  Whatever’s happened and wherever he is.”
Whatever happened and wherever he is were both solved only a few hours later.
“The basement,” Jenkins stated, “For many years, centuries, in this precise location, there was a vampire’s…ah…commune, of a sort.  Now, one of the listed occupants of the building is a company known as Angler’s Avenue.”
“So, vampire fishermen?”
“No,” Jenkins gave a disapproving look at the disruption, then seemed annoyed at himself before he continued, “Sort of.  The leader of that commune, who has gone by many names over the centuries, was known to many as The Angler.  So called not because of a love for that particular style of fishing, but rather because he would bait humans with a variety of temptations in order to take them into his commune.  Or, in most cases, simply feed upon them.”
Bewildered, Flynn raised an eyebrow, “And no librarian ever got rid of him?”
“Two attempted, and two failed.  The Angler has since been very much off the radar.”
“Not anymore,” Eve glared, “So, den of evil vampires in the basement of an office building…not done that one before.”
“Of course not.  If you had ‘done that one before’ none of you would likely be sitting here now,” Jenkins continued, “These are not vampires to be trifled with.  Some are very old, very skilled killers.  Going in even with a plan of attack and suitable weaponry is a considerable risk.”
“If we go in the day?” Ezekiel suggested, “They’ll all be sleeping right?”
“And they’ll all be there,” Flynn nodded, “At night some may be out, but not necessarily…we need a way to thin their numbers.  Take out several at a time, if needed…”
“Even the odds,” Eve concurred, “Is there an artifact we can use?  Something that creates a sort of sunlight or garlic spray or general vampire vanquishing aura?”
“What about the sun?  Can we harness some of that?”
“Maybe there’s a spell we can use?”
“Or, maybe we just lure a bunch of the vampires out of the basement?” Ezekiel said as if this was the most obvious plan possible, “Look, they’re in that office building as a business, right?  They don’t own it, and they need to keep looking legitimate to keep it and keep themselves from being noticed by the cops or librarians or whoever else has issues with kidnapping people.  So, we trigger some kinda security alarm or inspection or something else that will force at least enough to seem like a real company to leave the basement, then someone else goes in while they’re distracted.”
Eve nodded, “It could work…alright, Librarians, we have a plan!”
-
They drifted into his nightmare like fog over the ocean.  He knew what, who, they were but they seemed formless, and moved without really being seen to move.
They had been here before.  Eve, shooting a vampire in the heart with a bullet that steamed and hissed on impact, Flynn with Excalibur, slicing through the vampires just like Jenkins had.
But they had never been here at the same time, and never when he was alone.
They came when the creatures were here, catching them in their meal, appearing in his vision as his consciousness faded.
And they never actually reached him.
But now, here Baird was, her hands on his cheeks, looking into his face with painful concern and tears in her eyes.  And Flynn, holding his arm, his wrist, inspecting the chains and muttering words Jake couldn’t hear.
“Baird,” Jake’s own voice held no sound.  He knew he had tried to say the name, but nothing came out.
“Hey,” she smiled, “You’re okay.  We’ve got you now.”
Suddenly there was a weight to his right, dragging him down until he was caught painfully by two sets of arms.  The weight was his own limb, freed from one chain, and too weak for him to hold it up on his own.
Eve held him while Flynn worked on the other chain, then he was free.
The pain that blossomed through his shoulders, down his back, along his arms, was nothing in comparison to the burn down his throat as he attempted to talk.
He wanted to warn them.  To make sure they knew about the vampires.  That they were there and they might come back.
But his bare feet, where they touched the ground as his two friends practically carried him out of the room, brushed over ashes briefly.
There had been vampires.
At least some were now gone.
Ahead, a familiar blue light.  The back door.
Behind them, the elevator pinged.
Jake froze.
He knew what came after that sound.
One, two, three, four…and the vampire would be on them.  Sooner if he chose.  He would kill them.  Or, worse, so much worse, imprison them.  Turn Flynn and Eve into nothing more than sources of blood and sick delight as well.
They were still moving towards the glow of blue, not looking back, carrying Jake with them.
But Jake did look back, twisting painfully to get a glimpse of the elevator. He saw the vampire there, standing still.  Just watching, watching, and then he was gone in the dizzying rush of time and space.
The annex.
Home.
And Cassie, running at him, throwing her arms around him in spite of all the grime and blood covering his skin and clothes.
He hugged her back as best he could, raising one arm to her side but unable to do more. Eve was still behind him, supporting him from behind, keeping him from collapsing.
He looked beyond Cassie’s red hair to where he had heard Ezekiel’s voice, but he didn’t manage to say anything in response.
What blood he had left froze at what he saw.
Judson’s mirror.
Cassie in the reflection, clear as anything ever was in that antique glass.
But where his own reflection should be, there was nothing.

Can vampires mimic voices? I was thinking about the scene in New Moon, where Alice does an imitation of Edward that is good enough to cause Bella physical pain, and Edward imitates Carlisle in a phone call with Jacob a little while later. Now Bella is Bella and Jacob had not, to my knowledge, ever heard Carlisle speak before. However, do you think vampires could modulate their voices make a perfect mimicry of someone else, or maybe just other vampires?
I think, given their motor skills that are so much more sophisticated than our own, they can probably mimic voices extremely well. I can certainly believe they'd be good at mimicking fellow vampires, though some would be harder than others. Aro, with his feathery, barely there voice, would have a hard time forming bell-like noises to mimic Alice, and Alice can probably forget about sounding velvet-y and male for Edward's voice.
I can believe Alice and Bella can mimic each other well, though, their descriptions are very similar. I refuse to believe Alice can pull of a low alto, though, so they're not going to be able to mimic all women (this of course assuming vampire voices can be alto at all. Venom being what it is, that's not guaranteed).
Human voices, I say forget about it. Humans have soft, fleshy, vocal cords, vampires are all stone. If they weren't, Alice and Bella wouldn't sound like wind chimes and bells.

What if somebody had an accident while edbella were still having their high-school shenanigans? So the family is forced to move, does Bella move with them? Does she realize that the poor victim could be her any moment? If that's somebody she knows (which is the most likely, given Carlisle has perfect history and Esme doesn't leave the house, so children at school are the most likely candidates), does she finally understand how this whole "soulless stone cannibals" shit works, or is it still not enough?
When?
This is important because we have two stages to Edward and Bella's high school shenanigans, during Twilight and during Eclipse.
During Twilight, Edward intends to dump Bella, until the birthday party fiasco he would likely have chosen graduation and let Bella leave to college while he and his family disappeared, but he always intended to leave her. Neither has gone the six months without each other where both sunk into a non-functional state of depression.
During Eclipse, both Bella and Edward have tried and failed to live without the other. They see each other as their only salvation (with Bella baking vampirism into that mix as well). Neither can contemplate a future without the other meaning... they're uh probably willing to put up with a lot more.
So, I guess I have to answer the same question twice so I don't get an ask inevitably in my inbox.
Caveats
As a note, Bella can't be anywhere near where it happens or uh she'll probably be eaten too since that's how these things go. So, unless you want another dead Bella, she's not a witness.
This is important.
Twilight
Bella has just figured out what Edward is, she's met the family, had her James adventure, and is determined to become a vampire while Edward continues saying no.
They go to Prom, it's a wonderful time, until Jasper accidentally eats Jessica Stanley (poor Jessica, what a life).
Edward, of course, is livid as Jasper ruined what should have been the greatest night of his life and is horrified that now Bella knows the truth.
Which is, of course, why Edward covers it up immediately. The family has to cover it up anyway, Bella has no reason to find out that Jasper ate Jessica and that the family really is comprised of demons. Edward absolutely does not want Bella to know this for all he knows it'd be for her own good.
Edward's fine with this as he takes this as the impetus to leave town and dump Bella.
(Likely, they stage a car accident, one to be expected on prom night. Jessica is the tragic victim of a sad teenage statistic.)
The Cullens stay to the end of the year, Edward acting... weird and standoffish, then Edward gives Bella his "it's not me, it's you" speech in the woods and disappears into the sunset.
Canon proceeds as planned until years later, someone unthinkingly mentions the time Jasper ate Jessica.
Eclipse
Now Edward's torn.
This is the ultimate proof he needs to show Bella that vampires are blood sucking demons and she will literally lose her soul if she becomes one.
On the other hand, Jacob is now his rival and this time she'll dump him for sure.
Edward... is selfish enough... he can't do that.
Oh, he drops strong hints that Bella should dump him for Jacob, Jacob's a better man, a human man, but uh "don't dump me for Jacob, I'll steal your car battery if you try to see him".
So, gaslighting continues.
Edward covers up the murder with the family and there's a lot of drama as the family can't really leave town what with the army on the doorstep as they would be leaving Forks to die.
Leaving Bella's also off the table as they would be sentencing her to die as well (Edward's not thinking about this part).
Everyone's told that Jasper stole medical blood in preparation for the battle.
Bella doesn't find out the truth until years later, if ever.
In Conclusion
Gaslight is Edward's middle name.
