Save Me a Dance [Jamil/Azul/Riddle]

Summary: Jamil, Riddle, and Azul take some time to enjoy themselves together at the Masquerade Ball.
“Rather spirited, isn’t he?”
Riddle spun around to face Jamil, who smiled and extended a hand out towards him.
“Indeed,” Riddle agreed as he accepted Jamil’s hand and fell in step with his movements. “I’m glad to see that Azul was more than just talk over how hard he and the others practiced their singing.”
The pair glanced over at where Azul stood in the center of the ballroom, singing his heart out alongside Malleus and Idia during the dance. Azul looked to be putting his all into every note, especially compared to the less than enthused looking Idia just a few feet away.
Jamil lifted his hand to twirl Riddle around. “I’d expect nothing less of him, really. Azul would never dream of making a fool of himself at such a public event…” he smirked. “Well, at least not from lack of effort, anyway.”
Riddle returned Jamil’s smug grin with one of his own. “You’re quite right about that. And by the looks of it, your extra dancing lessons with him definitely paid off, didn’t they? You looked to be enjoying yourself more out there with him each time we performed.”
The teasing nature of Riddle’s voice was not lost on Jamil. He huffed out a sigh in response, electing to twirl Riddle around a few more times to hide his own pouting. “Hey, come on, now. I didn’t want him to embarrass our school any more than he didn’t.”
“And he just let you help him for free?” Riddle asked, a playful eyebrow raise accompanying his question.
“Pft, of course not. I had to ‘make him promise’ to help Kalim study for an upcoming exam in my stead when we get back.” Jamil sighed, shaking his head. “Azul is still Azul, no matter how you look at him.”
Riddle’s grin softened into a gentler smile. “Perhaps that frees your schedule to come have tea with us in Heartslabyul?”
Jamil returned the smile. “That sounds nice, actually. I just might take you up on the offer.”
When the song finished, and everyone left their final positions to swarm the singers with praise, Azul turned away from the grumpy-as-ever Idia to face more welcoming company.
“Did you all enjoy my singing?” He asked the group that gathered, though his gaze was focused on Riddle and Jamil, eagerly anticipating their reactions the most.
Riddle couldn’t even try to hide his smile, swept up in the excitement of the evening’s festivities. “You hardly need our validation. I’m sure you’re very aware of how well you did.” He knew full well of how confident Azul was in his singing abilities, and while he didn’t normally enjoy inducing any of the Octavinelle boys’ obvious baiting… Well, Riddle still knew when to give credit where credit was due.
Jamil shook his head. “Way to be a sore winner,” he sighed, but even he couldn’t hide the smile creeping across his face as he met Azul’s eyes. “Very classy.”
Their smiles alone seemed to fill Azul with plenty of satisfaction and fulfillment. “I’ll take that as the highest of compliments,” he said, beaming back at the pair.
As more students gathered to shower the trio of singers with compliments, Jamil and Riddle slowly made their way through the crowd and off to the side. They shared a moment of comfortable quiet between themselves, taking their time to decompress and - with some urging on Jamil’s part - taste the refreshments.
“Not too tired from dancing yet, I hope?”
Jamil and Riddle turned around and were yet again met by an approaching Azul.
“I do believe,” he continued, “that someone still owes me a dance tonight.” His gaze landed on Riddle, and he extended his hand out with a smile. “I’ll hope you didn’t wear him out already, Jamil.”
“Not a chance,” Jamil smirked. “Riddle could’ve just exhausted himself after a marathon and he’d still have more than enough stamina to keep up in a dance with you, Azul.”
Azul rolled his eyes. “Very funny. You’re only backhanding your own teaching skills with that kind of talk, you know.”
Riddle snickered as he took Azul’s hand and stepped forward. “Well, then… I suppose it’s all on you to showcase both Jamil’s teaching abilities and your newfound dance skills, hmm?”
“I certainly shall!” Azul huffed, but then smiled as he pulled Riddle close and began to dance. “And don’t you worry, Jamil,” he called over his shoulder as they moved further into the crowd. “I’ll make sure to find you afterwards for one more ‘test’ of my stamina.”
“Yeah, yeah,” Jamil waved the pair away, hiding a smile as he lifted his drink to his lips. “I’m sure you will.”

*walks into heaven and shuffles up to the gate*
"Welcome!" The curly haired angel greets cheerfully. He looks like a magician. Or a bookseller. I can't decide which.
I stand awkwardly and blink back.
"So ... yeah," he pats me on the head, "good ummm ... good job, wot?" His hands do an exited *wiggle*. "You made it! Wahoo!"
I can't help the smile that begins to form on my uncertain face.
"So ... same as I told the last, uhm, fellow ...!" here he clears his throat, "you can, ah, choose any version of heaven you wish to enter!" He beams at me, waving a hand with a flourish towards the pearly gates.
I blink back at him in amazement. Hurrying to dig something out of my pocket, I spill it out into his hands with some urgency!!!
He opens his palms and views the DVD lying there ... with empathy, but not surprise.
"Oh dear ... oh no ...," he bemoans, offering me a little side smile, as if understanding, "not another one?"
Then to my amazement, he huffs a sigh and ... comes over to give me a big hug.
"I believe your heaven is right over there ...?" He says brightly, pointing the way.
*I blink again*
Disbelief falling into absolute rapture as I realize ...
I'm now standing in the street ...
. At 221b Baker Street.
To be precise.
Watching as the gay pilot picks back up where it left off ....

What made you ship it?
YOU DID!!!!!! I would have been a really big fan of AzuRido without cereal influence I think but I was only a passive enjoyer of JamiAzu on my own and would never have thought about the possibility that Azul has Two Hands... and yet. It's so fun 😌 I think specifically it was that one fic you did of jamiazurido studying. That was jamiazu specific but the dynamic between all three characters was still there and VERY entertaining. Your passion is INFECTIOUS!!!!!
What are your favorite things about the ship?
The endless chaos that can rain down every time these three are in a room is FUNNY‼️‼️‼️ I also think Jamil and Riddle on their own are cute like they're just Hanging Out they're Studying Together they're Parenting Their Respective Dorms Together!!!!!! The solidarity between these two goes beyond FISH HATING, and like that one time I think they were quietly making fun of Malleus' Goat Horns together in masquerade before Malleus TELEPORTED BEHIND THEM MID-SENTENCE and they both SCATTERED. That was very goofy LOL do I even need to mention the silly goofs and fun and sweet moments in jamiazu and azurido. I think we get the point 😌

What made you ship it?
BOOK 5. literally WHAT was I supposed to do. I have said this before and I will say it again. They went on a MOTORCYCLE RIDE TOGETHER to the BEACH while it was SUNSET to talk about sides of themselves they have as willingly shown NOBODY ELSE. Was that not the most romantic scene in the game 😭 I know rookvil are the most blatantly romantic with each other 24/7 but as for SPECIFIC SCENES they took the cake they stole the bit and RAN WITH IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What are your favorite things about the ship?
They are just Little Guys. It's an adorable teen romance in the designated baby zone of the school (first years)!!!!!!!!! Also they're both NUTS it's so exciting every time epel gets to drop the sweet innocent boy act and he has that wild smile sprite and he breaks out the slang and KILLS AND MAIMS‼️‼️ and JUICE has been doing this act TOO‼️‼️ But instead of epel he is trying very very hard NOT to go insane and kill and maim mode‼️‼️‼️ They understand each other and they also CARE ABOUT EACH OTHER 😭😭 it is some excellent soup and it's almost so excellent that it's boring but then they KILL and I am having a great time‼️‼️‼️

There is one time in the ghost marriage epel vignette that they interacted and I hold it closely to my chest <3 it was a cute interaction too!!!!!!! What are your favorite things about the ship?
Something is deeply wrong with both of them and they both need to be studied extensively for scientific purposes. They are also both very willing to be the one studying. Good for them. I think terrible things will happen if we leave them in the same room for too long, and I want to SEE!!!! They also understand each other in a way that nobody else will 😌 Vil does not understand Rook nor is he willing to try hard to, he just trusts him and loves him blindly and we love them for that <3 & everyone in the fish dorm is deranged in a different way but the tweels are only studying azul for fun, not each other. I get the impression more and more each day that the tweels have had ENOUGH of each other's presence and only tolerate each other for the sake of common ground (bullying and killing and destruction For Fun) so LOL nobody in Jade's dorm is really looking that deep under the surface with him either, but rook doesn't have to, they just looked at each other once and understood all. Good for them <3 we should all be a little scared though <3
Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?
The least toxic form this pairing can come is only the most toxic kind and I think the other shippers for these two have understood that so I am greatly enjoying the content between these silly guys 😌

currently writing what i'm sure is going to be like 1000 words about him in a different draft but basically ummm
i actually do have a lot to say about him auuuuu he's just such a good character i like him a lot :-] he's a genuine sweetheart and he's so jovial and passionate and he loves life!! i feel like the reason people consider him to be a really one-note character is because even though he does have flaws as a character and a lot of personality other than "guy who goes wahoo" he sort of gets the papyrus undertale treatment. because he's a super optimistic character people see that and go "oh so he's the happy one and that's it" and kind of ignore the other sides to him yknow? like ignore the fact that he's hotheaded and competitive and impulsive and a sore loser and also you kind of lose the like. depth of his passion and love of his friends and life as a result of this. mario is a fiery guy! just in general though i'm really glad that there's a lot less "mario is a bad person" stuff than there was when i was younger LOL. we as a society have moved past thinking mario is a bad person
