Finding their Mate

A/N: I had fun with the Twilight version of this and was in a tvd mood. Half of these I have no idea where these were going but we're here now so...

Damon

Didn't think that mates existed but then again, here you are, surprising him in more ways than one and he's seen a lot of things. You tried talking to him about it at first after learning about your connection, but that didn't work. What else was he supposed to do other than run away and pretend like he was never informed of your connection, stay? No, no, no because, that is not the Damon way... at least, not until you threaten to use all his bourbon as a flame retardant to burn down their house. He slowly becomes a little more lenient in building a stronger bond. When you two get closer and become a couple, he never looks back because, you are his everything which means he will do whatever he can or needs to do in order to protect you because too much happens in this damned town

Stefan

He knew deep down that even though he loved Elena, it wasn't always going to last with the way it was between her and his brother. Even with their destiny tied them together; they never lasted. And to think his life was dramatic and chaotic then but now, you come into his life, almost as if out of nowhere was even crazier. Finding out that his epic love actually came from a place of fate, someone who could complete him and make him feel whole...was interesting, to say the least. He didn't know what to expect but he knew right away there was something special about you and always wanted to know more about you (before the whole mates' thing came about). After getting together, he realized he's more honored to be your mate and knows it's better than anything he's had before

Elena

She hoped that she'd find the one person she knew she was meant to be with because of watching how her parents were when she and Jeremy were growing up. They were her role models and wanted what they had. Finding out that she is actually meant to be with someone who wasn't Stefan was, shocking, really but it was also a good thing because this meant she could have a romantic life with you. She's always felt something for you which confused her more than anything but then Damon informed her about the whole mates' thing and concerned everyone when they had just found out about the sire bond. The only reason the older Salvatore told her was when he caught her staring at you for the millionth time, forcing her to understand more about you

Bonnie

She barely started understanding the supernatural world and finding out that mates existed was crazy as hell. Honestly, it was the last thing she needed to hear. But then you started putting in an effort, putting her first (compared to what her friends do), she realized that maybe it wouldn't be so bad to have a mate. She was careful, guarded almost, at the beginning but your patience won in the end, and she knew you're the one for her. Everyone else (especially Caroline) was so happy that their friend found someone as awesome as you were; not to mention the fact that the blonde vampire is planning your guy's wedding already and is most definitely, going to fight whoever plans on being Bonnie's bridesmaid

Caroline

She never knew mates existed, always thought it was a fictional thing even with the whole supernatural world going on around her because no one really talked about it. She was the kind of girl who talked about having an epic love, but never realized she was talking about mates. Meeting you and then Bonnie telling her about the real reason behind your connection (and calming her mind, shutting down the thoughts of her being sired to you), she was excited. She finally had someone to spoil and someone who could take care of her. She offered to take you out, wanting to explain... everything since you know nothing and are being dragged into her hectic life. She will do everything she can to protect you

Tyler

The only reason he had an ounce of knowledge about mates was because of his wolf, had he not turned, he probably would have never found out and would have been whoring himself out to anyone he could (even more). But then you stepped foot into town, and it drove his wolf absolutely insane, to the point where he was starting fights with anyone. His wolf tried telling him, but it was hard for the boy to understand when he barely understood the supernatural world as it is. Then you found your way into his life and changed him, in more ways than one. He was lucky he didn't need to explain to much about the supernatural to you, but he still wasn't happy to know you were aware of, well, everything. It scared him, he doesn't want to lose you

Jeremy

When he became a vampire hunter, he didn't think he was going to be more than that and then when he died and came back, he wasn't all that pressed to talk to people and make friends. Then, you came, and things changed. He was working a shift at the grill when you walked in, and he was thought you were just- wow. Luckily you were seated in his section, giving him more opportunities to talk and try learning more about you. You caught the hints he was throwing and decided to throw him a bone, his number was immediately put in after picking up the bill. And, dammit if he hadn't texted you after his shift. He put in a genuine effort and found out you two were mates (who would have thought), certainly not you two

Alaric

He's been around for a while, knew a few things to help him get by and read a little bit about these things when he got into the supernatural world. So, he wasn't too alarmed when he found out he was mated to you but imagine his surprise when he finds out you also know about the supernatural and... actually know how to defend yourself, if needed. That man is floored, he thought he was going to need to show you a thing or two. What else would you expect from the guy who taught and helped all the kids learn about these things. (Don't even get him started on the time when Klaus had his body and knew before he did. He will go bonkers). He's not the happiest about others knowing about your bond but no one can keep their mouths shut anymore

Tyler Lockwood headcanons b/c I need some happiness.

-he’s bisexual and realized it in s1 when he was having his arc with Jerbear

-he’s adopted. Carol & Richard really wanted a child but couldn’t get pregnant so they adopted Tyler. But Richard was angry about not having a girl so he’d take his feelings out on Tyler

-he very obviously doesn’t die. Doesn’t come back to help Damon, but instead, visit Matty Blue Blue

-Mason also helped Tyler come to terms with being bi (he’s openly bi and his confidence in being himself inspired Tyler to do the same)

-he loves getting kissed on the lips, nuff said haha

even when they’re not together / after they’ve broken up, tyler and caroline are still crucially each others’ person. they understand one another on a level that few other people will, and even when they’re at odds you can bet your ass that they’ll defend the other and help in whatever ways they can. and in a happier universe where tvd does not royally hate tyler, caroline definitely plans his and liv’s wedding. ok thanks bye.

2. When I think I truly started to like them (or dislike them, if you’ve sent me a character I don’t like)

I watched TVD initially when it was first airing forever ago, but IIRC I started liking him around the time the show meant us to — when we watched him learn about the werewolf thing. And that was that 🥰

3. A song that reminds me of them

Honestly, the show hit it on the mark when they chose Matthew West’s “Family Tree.” At least, until they ruined it for no reason at all. I also like “I Will Survive,” by Stephanie Bentley.

4. How many people I ship them with

Other than Caroline, I like the idea of Bonnie. They both deserved better, and I think they could’ve been good together, especially once he lost his hybrid status and became mortal again so he wouldn’t have to outlive her.

5. My favorite ship of them

Caroline 😭 Though the person she became later on was totally unworthy of him. You know and share my thoughts on this lmao

6. My least favorite ship of them

I’ll say Liv simply because the first time around I stopped watching mid-season 4 and on rewatch I couldn’t get past mid-season 5 so I didn’t really see them together. Or Vicki because he was very shitty to her.

7. A quote of them that you remember

He has a lot of good ones! One in particular I remember and like is shortly before he goes through his first transformation where he says he’s scared. The narrative had presented him sympathetically before that, but I think that really showed he was no longer a douchebag jock, but rather a 16-year-old kid facing a truly horrifying experience. For him to not only admit he was scared, but admit it to Caroline then break down was so sad.

12. Sexuality hc!

Oh gosh, idk. Haven’t really thought about it, honestly, and could see it going a few different ways. I’ll go bi (with a preference for women), because those scenes with Jeremy in early season 2 had vibes 👀 Definitely open to other interpretations, though!

13. Your favorite friendship they have

No one was really his friend :((( Matt at least cared when he died, though, so Matt.

14/15. Best/worst storyline they had

His werewolf one was the best, by far. Worst was DEATH.

21/22. When do you think they were at their happiest/lowest?

Happiest was probably the summer between the season 2 finale and through 3x01. He was so light and his relationship with Caroline was in my opinion at its closest and most wholesome. His lowest moment ... do I have to say it? Early-mid season 5.

23. Future headcanon

I DON’T CARE HOW, BUT SOMEHOW HE GETS RESURRECTED. And then proceeds to live his best life and Caroline comes back with an adequate apology and they live happily ever after.

26. When do you think they were being “themselves” the most?

His softest moments. That softness really is at the core of his character: He has such a big heart and — as he says himself — he doesn’t want to be the guy he was at the beginning of the series, the guy his father shaped him into. He shines in season 2 and beyond when he can unashamedly be a mama’s boy, sweet and lovey with Caroline, and (for better or worse) do anything for the people he cares about.

28. The most unnecessary thing they ever did?

This was the show’s fault, not the character’s, but I hated that he was made to leave so many times. That said, the first time he left I’d say was the most unnecessary because unlike later when his absences were caused by Klaus, this one was his decision. I can understand why he did it, and I’m glad he was able to learn the ropes with people who knew first-hand what he was going through, but I felt there was a better, less isolating way to go about it.

29. How do you think they would be as a parent? (And if they are a parent, how do you think they would be if they weren’t?)

HE WOULD BE SO GOOD. Between the natural kindness he has in him I mentioned from #26, he also would want to be absolutely nothing like his own father. I’m sure he would be insecure af about it, but he would be great and it’s a travesty he’ll never get to experience it.

give us your thoughts on how Tyler's life turns out!!

this turned into a mix of multiple headcanons and thoughts I’m so sorry for this word vomit lol!

I like Tyler leaving Mystic Falls post season 6. However, he goes out and finds more Lockwoods and werewolves. I don’t believe there’s just three people in his family. He meets his grandparents who explain why the werewolf lineage was kept secret and that brings him to his birth mother and that side of the family! (Sorry, can’t ignore how Tyler doesn’t look like his parents..)

I think werewolves would be more in southern states where it’s easier to hide and spread out from others. Tyler spends a year or two with grandparents and meets other werewolves in Tennessee. The following year there he becomes an alpha and leads other packs in the southern states. I don’t see Tyler a fan of real politics the way he is supernatural wise. But, I can see him finishing a degree in business and opening up rec centers in hopes to keep untriggered and triggered werewolves busy and help them manage those traits. (I can see Tyler expanding this as a brand around the world maybe..) Tyler would also want to be a mentor to other wolves! He knows what it’s like to go unguided with this. (I don’t see him working at the Boarding School.) He’d even love to be there with someone as they shift to help them through the pain. Tyler would enjoy bonding with others through his wolf form.

Romance and family wise. I’d love to see Tyler explore a relationship with a werewolf. Someone who gets what it’s like to be a wolf. Someone he can shift with! I remember thibking Hayley was going to be that person once lol! If not then I’d love to see Tyler and Bonnie reconnect outside of Mystic Falls a few years down the line. (They can have little witch-werewolf babies…) If that isn’t an option I’d like to see Forwood, I’d want there to be an apology and understanding on Caroline’s end on how she hurt Tyler. Maybe even allow Caroline to become human again to be with Tyler longterm. (The wolves wouldn’t take Caroline serious as Tyler’s partner as a vampire..or they could work something out there. ) Tyler’s packs come together to throw him a huge wolf styled wedding. I see Tyler being a father to at least two-three kids. He was so willing to learn about his legacy in season 2. He’d want to make sure his line doesn’t die and that someone else can pass on the werewolf gene in a positive way!

Okay this was a lot I’m sorry but i can’t accept Tyler dying young!
