the goddess Vesta in astrology/mythology and our sacred devotion
Tumblr media
Vesta in Roman mythology (Hestia in Greek) was widely known as the goddess of the hearth, the home, and domestic life.
to give you an idea of her importance, every family in Rome held a sacred fire in honor of her and most never let it burn out, hoping for her protection of their home in return. even more importantly, the city of Rome built the Temple of Vesta which held the eternal, holy fire that symbolized the prosperity and protection of Rome as a whole. this sacred fire was guarded and kept ablaze by Vesta’s priestesses, the Vestal Virgins.
Vesta was notably a virgin goddess, and so naturally the Vestal Virgins were sworn to 30 years of chastity starting from the moment they were appointed from childhood (around 6-10 years old). breaking this vow ended with deadly consequences, and so because they held such great responsibilities over their heads, they were regarded very highly in Rome and had greater privileges than other women of their time.
the Vestal Virgins were noted as a group of 6. in numerology, this number holds associations to responsibility, especially concerning domestic affairs. in astrology, the 6H holds domain over our responsibilities, routines, and service to others. also, Saturn is the 6th planet from the Sun and holds domain over- wait for it- responsibility, law, restriction, and discipline.
some astrologers will use the houses and the signs interchangeably, such as: Aries/1H, Taurus/2H, Gemini/3H, etc. this is where the 6H and it’s associated sign, Virgo, comes in. Virgo’s are known for their work ethic, their attention to detail, and most importantly their service to others. these themes all find a home in the Vestal Virgins; they spend 30 years of their lives doing nothing but making sure the fire of Rome is burning. the Latin word for hearth is focus, and Vesta along with the Vestal Virgins held an unmatched focus and dedication. after the Vestal Virgins completed their 30 years of service, they were allowed to marry by law, but most didn’t. and they found that the ones who did greatly regretted it. “it was observed that their change was not a happy one, but accompanied ever after with regret and melancholy;”
as an astrologer who works with deities, i personally believe this described regret and melancholy could possibly be attributed to the women’s relationship with Vesta and their dedication to her. imagine living your entire teenager and young adult life servicing and developing a bond with a goddess of such strong convictions, only to throw it all away as soon as your contract was up. i believe the Vestal Virgins loved Vesta and loved their work so much that most wanted to continue it for the rest of their lives, which brings us to how Vesta comes into play in our lives.
Vesta (4) the asteroid and Hestia (46) the asteroid in our chart can show us where we feel this same level of focus. they show us where, like the Vestal Virgins are dedicated to their eternal virginity and Rome's eternal flame, we feel this undying dedication. they show us where we feel this sacred, spiritual devotion that Vesta holds.
Vesta/Hestia in the signs and houses: dedication to...
Aries/1H: to one's self, to independence, to autonomy. your devotion to yourself is an integral part of who you are. you will pick yourself over and over with second thought or remorse; your fire is yourself.
Taurus/2H: to resources, to stability, to security. your devotion to self-sufficiency is integral to your comfort. your self worth is greatly dependent on your usefulness; your fire is functional.
Gemini/3H: to learning, to communication, to minds. your devotion to knowledge makes you integral to your community. intelligence is of the highest regard to you; your fire is perceptive.
Cancer/4H: to the home, to nurturing, to loved ones. your devotion to your roots is an integral part of your life. your dedication is often only perceived to those closest to you; your fire is veiled.
Leo/5H: to expression, to love, to creation. your devotion to pleasure is an integral part of your happiness. your own creations or self expression is easily admired by others; your fire is personal.
Virgo/6H: to efficiency, to healing, to purity. your devotion to service is an integral part of your well being. helping yourself and others will always be what you do; your fire is regenerative.
Libra/7H: to others, to cooperation, to harmony. your devotion to others is an integral part of the balance in your life. you have the ability to liberate others; your fire is altruistic.
Scorpio/8H: to depth, to releasing, to change. your devotion to the death and rebirth process is an integral part of your evolution. you have a talent of letting loose things that no longer belong in your life; your fire is transformative.
Sagittarius/9H: to truth, to principle, to understanding. your devotion to wisdom is an integral part of your beliefs. your ideology is heavily based on the bigger picture; your fire is exploratory.
Capricorn/10H: to goals, to ambition, to achievements. your devotion to passion is an integral part of your public image. your accomplishments are respected by others; your fire is authoritative.
Aquarius/11H: to humanity, to society, to advancement. your devotion to the collective is an integral part of your awareness. you are skilled at staying individual while in the group; your fire is innovative.
Pisces/12H: to emotions, to the mysticism, to the unconscious. your devotion to spirituality is integral to your natural psychic abilities. you possess a connection to other worlds; your fire is holy.

Me having silly head-cannon designs for the other Olympians form Ulysses dies at dawn by the Mechanisms.
As well as what their role in the city is outside of being crime bosses and mobsters. I’m not 100% certain with all these designs, but they are something.
Introducing from top to bottom, left to right.
Zeus - the biggest crime boss of the city. He practically owns the utilities, especially has a monopoly on most of the cities power grid. He controls a lot of the city by keeping it in the family and he has a big family. (he/him)
Poseidon- powerhouse in industry who’s main competitors are hestia and hepatitis, but they work in a shaky alliance as often as they work against eachother. He also has control of all the resources that come from what’s left of the oceans.(he/him)
Hera- the ultimate socialite. Anyone who is anyone wants to be invited to her shindigs. To be dropped from the invite list is to be declared socially dead. She controls large parts of the cities everyday burocratices and especially when it comes to marriage, funerals and organized festivals. Paperwork needs her seal of approval to be legal. She is known to be petty. (She/her)
Apollo- a huge influencer, dominates the social media and content viewed by the masses. Most of his power comes from his control of the medical sector, but he distracts the population from that fact by his contributions in the arts and music. Called the sun of Olympus. He is sometimes called the sun of the Olympians and is set to take over as head of comity if Zeus ever steps down (not happening) has a particular dislike of the Coptic gods, Hades in particular. (he/him)
Athena- she is a powerhouse in libraries, education, and the legal network. They know the laws as they wrote most of the laws. She is also a great sponsor of the arts. she runs the newspapers and has a web of information.(she/them)
Hermes- transportation, shipping and delivery, they also essentially run large portions or the cities information network. They are sometimes called the ghost of the internet along with their assistant Iris. (they/them)
Artemis- law enforcement and jails. She has her elite huntresses who deal with outlaws and criminals, renegades and thieves. She also preserves the little that remains of the cities “wild places” this is most of the time more of luxury gardens than anything that is actually wilderness. She is often considered one of the weakest of the Olympians, but as she has the backing of her brother no one bothers her, she is also a lot more powerful than people really give her credit for. After all the weakest Olympian is still more powerful than the strongest mortal king (she/her)
Demeter- the madam of food. The farms of the cities are hers and everyone relies on her food. She has adopted the mysterious ‘Persephone’ as her daughter (she/ her)
Hephaestus- the other powerhouse of industry, but focusing more on specialized goods and luxuries. Him, Aphrodite and Aries have a well known on-again-off-again situation going on. He is also know for creative (he/him)
Aphrodite- she defines beauty. Their head can be removed and swapped out as well as most of their other body parts. She controls cosmetic industries and clothing trends. He is the ultimate pimp. Running all the cities brothels and red lights districts even if doing so In the shadows. (she/them/him)
Note: Aphrodite was sort of inspired by princess langwidere from the wizard of oz. Because she is low key horrifying and I think it would fit.
Ares- the machines of war, the defenses of city districts, personal security, and criminal activities are all places where ares turns his attention. War is business and they make certain business stays booming. (they/them)
Hestia- she is that one essential oils lady, queen of home gadgets and MLMS. This Olympian has for centuries monopolized housing and construction. She is the largest landlord and head of the majority construction companies in the city. She is planning on retirement so she can focus more on her love of pyramid schemes. Though she has yet to name a successor. (she/her)
Note: this is all headcannon that I made for the fun of it. Perhaps it will be useful to someone, but for now it’s just silly headcannons.

Guys I had a thought about the first great prophecy from PJO. So it goes:
A halfblood of the eldest gods
Shall reach sixteen against all odds
And see the world in endless sleep
The hero’s soul cursed blade shall reap
A single choice shall end his days
Olympus to preserve or raze
And obviously we all know what it means and how it turned out. But!!! I just watched a video of someone reading ttc for the first time (SabrinaSalisburyWriter on tt) and her giving her theory about how the series will go and I had a thought. Because she theorized that rather than destroy all the gods like Zeus thinks he will, Percy will bring about a new and better age than what they currently have at that point.
Prophecies are never very clear and exactly how you think, right? Like, we think Olympus has been preserved, right? Except has it?
Annabeth is completely redesigning Olympus. That’s her prize at the end of the series. Yeah, she and Percy weren’t responsible for all the damage, that was Kronos, but Annabeth is now in charge of taking Olympus as it currently is, and making it new.
Percy demands the gods acknowledge and claim their kids by a certain age which isn’t something they do at this point. He also demands they honor the minor gods too. Neither of those things are things that are done in the god’s eyes.
So what if the choice Olympus to preserve or raze really meant preserving how the powers that be in charge rule over things or putting the system through a complete upheaval that changes how things are done?
In other words, choosing NOT to allow Luke to end Kronos would result in the preservation of the old, failing system that Kronos would no doubt have used (even made worse), but choosing to let Luke end Kronos would result in razing the way Olympus does things and pave the way for a better future.
Literally within the next year and a half following these events the Greeks and Romans are not only coexisting with each other when they haven’t done that for centuries, but also Apollo (one of the gods) has changed so much to align with what Luke and Ethan wanted the gods to be like and to fit in with what Percy demanded of the gods.
I don’t know. I just thought about this and I think it kind of makes sense right?

Hymns to Zeus
Homeric Hymn 23 to Zeus
I will sing of Zeus, chieftest among the gods and greatest, all-seeing the lord of all, the fulfiller who whispers words of wisdom to Themis as she sits leaning towards him. Be gracious, all-seeing Son of Kronos, most excellent and great.
Orphic Hymn to Zeus
Of Zeus much-honor’d, Zeus supremely great, To thee our holy rites we consecrate. Our pray’rs and expiations, king divine, For all things round thy head exalted shine. The earth is thine, and mountains swelling high, The sea profound, and all within the sky. Kronion king, descending form above, Magnanimous, commanding, sceptered Jove; All-father, principle and end of all, Whose pow’r almighty shakes this earthly ball; Even Nature trembles at thy mighty nod, Loud-sounding, arm’d with light’ning, thund’ring God. Source of abundance, purifying king, O various-form’d from whom all natures spring; Propitious hear my pray’r, give blameless health, With peace divine, and necessary wealth.
Orphic Hymn to Zeus Astrapaios
I call the mighty, holy, splendid light, Aerial, dreadful-sounding, firey bright, Flaming, aerial-light, with angry voice, Lightning thro’ the lucid clouds with horrid noise. Untam’d, to whom resentments dire belong, Pure, holy pow’r, all-father, great and strong, Come, and benevolent these rites attend, And grant my days a peaceful, blessed end.
Orphic Hymn to Zeus Keraunos
O Father Zeus, who shak’st with firey light The world, deep-sounding from thy lofty height: From thee, proceeds th’ ethereal lightning’s blaze Flashing around intolerable rays. Thy sacred thunders shake the best abodes, The shining regions of th’ immortal gods: They pow’r divine, the flaming lightning shrouds, With dark investiture, in fluid clouds. ‘Tis thine to brandish thunders strong and dire, To scatter storms, and dreadful darts of fire; With roaring flames involving all around, And bolts of thunder of tremendous sound. Thy rapid dart can raise the hair upright, And shake the heart of man with wild affright. Sudden, unconquer’d, holy, thund’ring God, With noise unbounded, flying all abroad; With all-devouring force, entire and strong, Horrid, untam’d, thou roll’st the flames along. Rapid, ethereal bolt, descending fire, The earth all-parent, trembles at thy ire; The sea all-shining; and each beast that hears The sound terrific, with dread horror fears: When Nature’s face is bright with flashing fire, And in the heavens resound thy thunders dire. Thy thunders white, the azure garments tear, And burst the veil of all surrounding air. O Zeus, all-blessed, may thy wrath severe, Hurl’d in the bosom of the deep appear, And on the tops of mountains be reveal’d, For thy strong arm is not from us conceal’d. Propitious to these sacred rites incline, And crown my wishes with a life divine: Add royal health, and gentle peace beside, With equal reason, for my constant guide.
Disclaimers: Descriptions of the gods’ appearances are purely a record of how I personally see them. Gods are shapeshifters that can appear however they wish, and will be perceived differently by different people. My own perceptions of them may or may not match ancient artwork. Correspondences listed are mostly modern. Festival dates are based on the Attic calendar. Offerings listed are all specific to the deity in addition to standard ones. Translations of hymns are from Theoi unless otherwise specified. Sources: THEOI GREEK MYTHOLOGY, neosalexandria, HellenicGods.org, κοράκι/crow’s grimoire
