I'm glad there's starting to be conversation on this webbedsite about the fetishization and constant sexualization and sexual harassment of trans women and transfem nonbinary people.
the solution to transphobia (and transmisogyny particularly) making trans women out to be shameful, gross, disgusting, repulsive, inherently sexual, dehumanized, a fetish, and a joke is not to.... lean in to that!! yes of course, some people are into it. there will always be someone who is down to be objectified! sometimes objectification can be hot! sometimes being the object of someone's fetish can be fun! but that's not everyone, and one person being down shouldn't be taken as a go-ahead to make these statements and "jokes". it shouldn't be the default or assumed method of interaction. it should not be the only way you are capable of expressing yourself around trans women. it should not be the immediate and only answer you come up with to try to show that you're not a transphobe. and it absolutely should not be the response to transfems speaking up about transmisogyny.
it is unacceptable to respond to criticisms of (trans)misogyny by telling (trans) women to get over it and stop complaining and just have sex (with you). the path to unity, community, coalition-building is through genuine listening and concern, real care and respect and love, interrogating ones own biases and misconceptions and misjudgment, not through dismissal, disrespect, ill-placed attempts at humor, lateral aggression and punching down, fetishization, sexualization, and objectification. just, take a moment to think about the implications, self reflect, and consider whether the comments are adding to harmful stereotypes. consider whether the recipient is open to hearing it. consider why it's funny to you.

My existence as a trans person is not a fetish
My orientation as a queer person is not a fetish
The existences of lgbtq+ people should never be treated as a fetish. For us, or for anyone else.
Our existence is not sexual. It should not be treated as inherently sexual. We are not fucking sex objects, we are people.

I'm about to say something potentially controversial that I KNOW cis people will call me a transmisogynist for but if I see one more person who isn't a trans man or transmasc say the word "boy pussy", especially in a sexual context am going to stab my eyes with a butter knife
"but my boyfriend/partner is okay with me calling his genitalia that"
Okay then keep it in the bedroom for some trans people it can be very dysphoria-inducing to see someone refer to their genitalia
"but I'm a trans woman/transfem and I love saying "girl dick""
Not everyone is you, people have different boundaries... Respect them

reminder to everyone that needs to hear it that fetishization isn’t the same as actual enjoyment or love for something or someone

The whole "breasts shouldn't be politicized because the primary purpose of breasts is to feed babies!" can be a fine jumping-off point, but I really wish people thought deeper than that when we talk about the ways in which bodies are politicized and restricted.
Like, why's it that when we talk about breasts, they must have some Higher Purpose? It's true that breasts aren't inherently sexual, but they aren't valuable solely because they can potentially feed a baby. A human body doesn't have to serve a Higher Purpose in order for it to not be legislated against or policed, and I just wish people would remember it isn't always about babies, about other people, about anything else other than the people who have that body.

hey there. if you see art of a guy with boobs being sexy, drawn by a trans artist (yes, ALSO a guy with boobs), and immediately accuse them of fetishization, maybe stop to consider what it is about a guy with boobs being sexy that makes you so uncomfortable. And also, what fetish means.
cause the discomfort youre experiencing is most certainly NOT because of any harmful depiction of transness, from which the trans community surely needs to be protected: youre uncomfortable seeing normal everyday transness (you are transphobic)
trans people exist and boy a lot of us sure do like to be sexy, many of us have boobs, lots of us are fat, and if you are made uncomfortable by any of that then you need to unpack some stuff about yourself. also look up the definition of fetish, idiot.
