cyno x gn!reader
“Do you think he’ll like the flower crown I made?”
“If it’s the General Mahamatra, then I’m sure he’ll like anything you give him.”
“Really?” You beamed, a bright and lovely thing.
Nahida, your imaginary friend who only appears in your dreams, nods. “I know for a fact he will, so don’t worry anymore, okay?”
“Alright,” you concede, scooting closer so you can braid a portion of her long hair. “You know, you’re pretty smart for someone who’s a figment of my mind and looks like a kid, Nahida.”
She giggles as if she knows something you don’t. “Don’t think too much about it, and besides, you’re pretty smart on your own right. People can be intelligent in their own ways, academics or not.”
“Is this your way of saying it’s okay if I fail my test next week?”
“How about I tutor you instead?”
You don’t really tell anyone about your dreams, seeing as it’s frowned upon to still have them at your age. Not even Cyno and your other friends know, but you like to drop a few hints here and there.
“So while I was sleeping, I had an epiphany and thought I should make you a flower crown for helping me with my essays!” A crown of padisarahs, sumeru roses, and some wild flowers you picked on the way yesterday is held out in front of you. You smile to hide your nerves. “Here, for you!”
Cyno’s face remains impassive as he looks down at the colorful assortment of flowers, something almost like surprise showing in his eyes. His hands come up to take it, fingers gingerly brushing over the petals, handling it like it’s made of fragile glass instead of something you’d cobbled together on a whim.
It’s held close to his chest, eyes meeting yours, and you nearly blink in surprise at how unguarded he looks at this moment. So different from his usual frowns and gruff tones as he sternly corrected an error in your paper.
“Thank you,” he says after a moment’s pause.
You grin, the kind that stretches from cheek to cheek and makes your eyes crinkle, a hint of teeth peaking out. “I’m glad you like it!”
Later that day, multiple sources will claim that they saw the General Mahamatra dragging an unconscious criminal through the halls of the Akademiya, but what had them so baffled was the flower crown that stayed atop his head even as he interrogated said criminal.

synopsis: how they react when they find out you’ve never had a date on valentine’s day
based on the prompt: “you’ve never had a valentine’s date?”
characters: diluc, kaeya, mona, zhongli, xiao, kujou sara, kazuha, itto, tighnari, cyno, and childe x gn! reader (separately)
warnings: fluff, a bit of angst in some of them, these are meant to be pre-relationship but you can interpret them how you want
notes: releasing this a day early because i know i’ll forget about it tomorrow lmao. also i was gonna do more for this than just a bullet scenario, but then i realized there was only like a week left until valentine’s when i wrote this so i couldn’t do anything big 😭 but i did really like this prompt so enjoy!
Tumblr media
diluc:
his facial expression contorts into one of confusion as he wipes the inside of the glass in his hand
you’re sitting in front of him, legs crossed one over the other as they dangle over the barstool you’re on. your head rests in your hand innocently, as if what you had just said hadn’t affected you at all
you’ve never had a valentine’s date?
no. diluc just can’t accept it, at least, that’s what he decides as he puts the glass down and starts to remove his apron
before you know it, his hands are gripping yours, pulling you out the door and into the now sunset painted city you called your home
valentine’s wasn’t over yet, and diluc was sure as hell going to make sure you got that date
kaeya:
he laughs, his smile wide and his eyes teasing as he blinks through his tears
but then he sees the way you grimace and your eyes look anywhere but at him. he sees a sense nervousness and embarrassment wash over every inch of your face
he feels awful
kaeya hadn’t meant anything bad by his laughter. truthfully, he thought you were joking with him because, how could someone so utterly beautiful in every which way, someone so full of life, someone so perfect never have been asked on a date on valentines?
you were all he had ever wanted and more, and yet you weren’t even his
apologies come flying out of his mouth for a solid two minutes before you assure him it’s okay and, as expected, that stupid smirk appears on his face again
his hand is latching onto yours as he leans in close, asking you to join him on a date so he could make it up to you
and although he seems rather nonchalant on the outside, his heart is beating rapidly on the inside, begging you to accept so he could finally make you his
mona:
her mouth falls open at the sound of your response to the question
then it shuts…and then it opens again
meanwhile, you have to keep yourself from laughing too hard because of the way she currently resembles a fish
she huffs as she ignores your muffled laughter and tosses the pen she had been writing with to the side and gathers her papers on her desk
you’re still laughing, but her face is as serious and determined as ever
and before you know it, you were getting dragged out of her room and into yours. and your best friend tells you to get ready, as glammed up or as comfortable as you want
she was going to take you out on the best damn date of your life and maybe, just maybe, finally confess her feelings to you
zhongli:
his eyes widen in shock and he immediately sets his tea down to clasp his hands together
he’s silent, thinking carefully about what to say to your response to his question. honestly, he looks like someone had just murdered his grandma
deep down, he wants to ask why
but he doesn’t want to hurt your feelings or make you feel bad never having a date on valentine’s
his hand aches to reach for yours and hold it tight in his. secure it with all his adoration and love for you, make you realize he’d do anything to take you on a date — valentines or otherwise
slowly, his eyes reach back up to meet yours and he stands, unclasping his hands and extending one out for you to hold
“if you do not mind, i would like to have the pleasure of being your first valentine’s date. and, perhaps if you enjoy it, you would consider allowing me to take you out again.”
xiao:
he scoffs — why were you even telling him this anyway? he didn’t even like valentine’s day so what does this have to do with him?
yet, he doesn’t miss the way his heart seems to skip a beat before pounding furiously against his chest
was he angry? upset? emotional? sad? he wasn’t sure but, whatever it was, it was not a good feeling
he masks whatever emotion it was and displays the most neutral expression he could come up with
because, no, xiao is not jealous and most definitely does not care
yet, as much as the adeptus claimed to hate valentine’s day, he couldn’t help but feel the slightest bit interested if it means he gets to spend the day with you
his eyes avoid yours and a small blush crosses his face as he offers a proposition:
“if you would like…maybe you could spend the day with me?”
kujou sara:
her arms cross as she leans sideways against the wall, staring directly at you as she scoffs
“who wouldn’t want to take you out on a date?”
shit
the general definitely did not mean to say that out loud
suddenly, she’s standing upright and stuttering left and right as you stand in front of her in shock
her hands are waving in front of her face sporadically as she desperately tries to explain herself
but then your silence turns into laughter and it feels like the world around her completely stops as you reassure her that it’s okay and that you’re actually quite flattered
embarrassed as she is, sara sighs and stares at anywhere but you, “i know it’s your favorite, so meet me at uyuu restaurant at 7 tonight. please don’t make me regret this.”
kazuha:
he offers a gentle smile and covers your hand in his own
“that’s okay, neither have i.”
you’re quick to ask him why, but he’s quick enough to ask you the same
you’re dumbfounded, but argue that you asked him first. and he explains, saying that he’s always preferred the wind and spending his time in nature rather than out on silly dates
and your eyes loose their shine a little, not only upset because you have to talk about the fact that no one had ever asked you on a valentine’s day before, but also because it meant you likely wouldn’t have the chance to ever go out with him
and he notices, because that’s just how kazuha is
“just because i said i don’t prefer to go on dates, doesn’t mean i don’t enjoy them. in fact, i would greatly appreciate it if you would join me at chinju forest later today. perhaps we could have a picnic and enjoy the scenery together?”
itto:
he gasps loudly, almost as if he’s in a horror movie and the killer just found him
it scares you at first, thinking that his sudden expression was not in reaction to your response, but then you realize itto was in fact reacting to you
it’s just his dramatic nature
his hand is over his heart and his eyes are shut, acting as if he’s in pain
“oh no! no, no, no! this just won’t do!”
and you laugh whole heartedly at him. a smile irresistibly tugs at your lips and your eyes are all wrinkled
and when you recover, itto’s looking at you with the brightest, most fondest look you think you’ve ever seen in your life
and it hits you: he was trying to make you laugh so that you wouldn’t feel bad
and then he’s all serious, but you can tell he’s really just nervous, “uh, hey listen, i can take you out…but only if you want! not that you have to or anything — no, no that would be uh…yeah!”
tighnari:
“valentine’s day is a rather trivial holiday. there’s no need to be so upset about never having had a date.”
your eyes fall to your hands as he says those words. not that he sees of course, seeing as he’s turned around at his desk, writing away at some papers
“yeah, no! i get it, you’re right,” you say. but your words don’t match your tone, and you hate how quick tighnari is to pick up on it
he sighs and turns around, still fiddling with the pen in his hand, but you don’t meet his eyes
you knew he didn’t mean it in a bad way, that’s just who he is, but you couldn’t help the hurt you felt when he spoke
and then he sighs again. although, this time a small, but genuine, smile graces his expression, “if a date is what will make you happy, then i would happily take some time off from work.”
cyno:
he’s hesitant to respond
not because he finds it appalling that you’ve never had a date on valentine’s day, but because he’s simply not well versed in relationships or emotional comfort in general
his eyes stay focused on the ground and his fingers tighten against the barrel of his polearm
he’s so quiet that you’re not even sure he heard your response
and he continues to think for a few more moments before huffing and just saying everything outright
overthinking wasn’t the mahamatra’s style
so he asks you out to dinner that night. not out of pity either, just simply because that’s what cyno wanted
sure he wasn’t a fan of the holiday, but his feelings for you are certainly enough to make him want to celebrate it
childe:
his hand is intertwined with yours as you walk together down the streets of liyue
“wait so, you’ve never had a valentine’s date before? as in, this is literally your first one ever?”
you don’t respond. instead, you stare at the buildings around you and all the other couples adorning the different restaurants and gift shops
childe isn’t stupid. he sees the way you get uncomfortable and instantly regrets making the comment
he speaks softly, “i’m honored, you know? besides, you couldn’t get a better first date than me.”
you’re slapping his arm in a matter of seconds, trying to hold back your laugh, but acting angry nonetheless
but then you’re laughing together and you realize, yeah, it really couldn’t get any better than him

˖˚˳⊹ where they like to do it feat. cyno : tighnari : zhongli : childe : diluc : kazuha : heizou : itto x fem! reader
˖˚˳⊹ warnings: nsfw : mentions of exhibitionism
Tumblr media
cyno adored taking you in a small room in between his tight work schedule, quickies were the norm in your relationship and he was a big fan of them. He couldn’t get enough of the way you were looking during those sinful moments either. The clothes— he didn’t seem as necessary to remove, still hanging loosely on your body as he rutted himself forward, reaching deeper with each thrust. In a way he knew he had to be quick, what if someone storms into this room all of a sudden and spots the two of you? Yet what he wouldn’t admit is that he seemed to get aroused by the thought of that. His whines and moans might be your favorite, he’s so sensitive and the adrenaline cyno would feel whenever he’d fuck into your warmth was making him roll his eyes back at pleasure, toes curling once approaching his very much deserved orgasm.
tighnari is a big fan of fucking you in nature after his patrol, it really didn’t matter to him where exact as long as it‘s a bit hidden away from other people‘s eyes. Most of the times he’d have you pushed against a tree, your hands splat out on the wood while he‘s having his hands tight on the soft flesh of your ass. He‘s using his thumbs to spread you open further and most importantly, to have a pretty good view on your throbbing cunt. Tighnari could feel and obviously see your desperation, the way you tried to close your legs yet to no avail, unable to even comprehend anything other than the cold air ringing through your body. He‘s quick with it then— not wanting to waste anymore time before lining himself up with your tight hole, gently pushing his hips forward to be fully engulfed in your delicate walls. His head is thrown back as he sets a painfully slow but deep pace, reaching over to your face to slam his hand on your lips to prevent you to become louder than you already were.
there was nothing better for zhongli than taking you right on top of his desk in the wangsheng funeral parlor. He couldn‘t quite place on why he got so aroused having you splayed out like that, yet everything was there for him. Your body laying on top of the cold wooden desk while your legs were lazily thrown over his shoulders, eyes closed n hazy. Zhongli was so close too, his arms caging you in as he hid in the crook of your neck, taking in your addicting scent and fanning over your skin that was covered with a faint layer of sweat. "Zhongli." you‘re whining, your arms inviting him to kiss you passionately as the both of you moved in sinc, bodies pressed deeply into one another as your warmth combined. Moments like these were truly one of a kind in zhongli‘s eyes, he‘d never choose or prefer anything different than this.
whenever childe got home after a long day he always needed you to join his shower, the harsh droplets of water prancing over his sore body while he messily grinded himself into you. Your hands are flat on the shower walls while you‘re slightly arching your ass up for him to have a better view. Ajax grabbed a fistful of the soft flesh of your ass to drag you wilder over his throbbing length. You could feel him pulsate in you, walls sensitive from his relentless pace as he playfully voiced lewd words next to the shell of your ear. "you feel." he‘s gasping out particularly strong as you unconsciously tightened around him, "so fucking good." childe‘s throwing his head back at his approaching climax, the warm water only adding to the arousing feeling of the both of you using your bodies just as you pleased, moving as one and gradually coming undone together.
diluc couldn‘t help himself but love the way you would ride him in his leather chair, his head lolled back while his hands lazily helped you to drag yourself up and down his length. His eyes are barely open, if anything he‘d close them once in a while to relish in the pleasure he has been feeling right now. You were way too good at this, he thought to himself, his lower lip ever so often getting bitten by him to surpress yet another moan coming from his throat. Yet even diluc couldn‘t stop himself from hiding them all, you also adored whenever he‘d voice his pleasure, it added to the throbbing heat in between your legs. His groans are deep and full of adoration, his adams apple bobbing after he swallowed thickly, fingers digging into your skin to increase your pace. He honestly couldn‘t wait any longer, diluc just needed to cum right now, his hips thrusting up to meet your pace half way which resulted in you falling forward into his embrace. The both of you melting in another as you gradually reached your climax together.
kazuha had a thing for fucking you on beidou‘s ship, while also being very much aware that someone might hear you if you do get too loud. He‘s smiling the whole time, his hand only loosely hiding your mouth in an attempt to keep you silent while he‘s messily rutting into your cunt. His hips are circling around every time he‘s buried completely in you, resulting in turning you in an utter mess. He was so skilled in making you feel good, you adored whenever the both of you were intimate with each other. The way he inflicted pleasure on you was beyond belief, his cock reaching every sweet spot of your tight cunt and brushing through your walls impatiently. Your body was shivering, back bending into him as his pace gradually increased. "are you close?" kazuha was asking that with a grin, "are you scared they might hear us?" you could only nod at him, unable to voice a simple sentence when you were greeted with yet another deep chuckle, his hands placed on top of your lips to keep you still even though kazuha struggled with staying silent either.
the reason heizou would snuggle the both of you into watatsumi island, was for one, so he could fuck you in it. In a way it was funny to him, hilarious even, he was an expert in getting the both of you in with no one noticing, not to mention that he adored the ego boost he got once fucking you in a secluded area with no one watching. He really did it again, truly, your legs wrapped around his hips while heizou decided to go for a painfully slow yet deep pace, his tip grazing over your spongy walls downright pornographically as he hooked his hands on your knees to push them against your chest. He needed you tighter, wanted you to suck him in for all he cares, the lewd sounds that ran past your ears was almost embarrassing to you, yet you were way too busy keeping yourself still while he gradually rutted himself harder into your cunt, his girth stained with your juices in thick spurts and gushing over him had heizou throw his head back, climax dancing deep inside his gut and threatening to break any second now.
itto was secretly in love with fucking you on different locations, it really didn‘t matter where exactly the both of you would end up in, all that truly mattered was the adrenaline he felt whenever he was deep inside of you and most importantly, in a place he wasn‘t familiar with. The feeling of someone catching you or spotting the both of you was getting his groins on fire, his blood rushing through his veins and turning him into a complete mess in the process. "You feel so good." itto bit down on his lower lip, yet despite that a silent groan still escaped from past his throat— it sounded needy and desperate, as if he was craving for even more. Your body was spread out for him, bare and ready to be devoured by him and archons, he wasn‘t able to get you out of his head like that. You were truly beautiful in his eyes, cock twitching inside your walls and inflicting shockwaves on your body as your toes curled once itto arched his hips up a bit, hitting yet another spot of yours that turned your expression in a fucked out one.

⌜200+ e/chara ⌟
♫ blossom - t. shan
genshin masterlist
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
ALHAITHAM
╰┈➤ tbh he thinks minecraft is stupid, i mean, why not read a book instead of burning the images of pixels into your eye sockets😒 yeah, he’d just rather books. its a game about blocks, what could possibly be so interesting? he will admit the music is… nice. its nostalgic even though he’s never heard the track before. his favorite animals are the axolotl idk they’re his little pookies. its their little stick arms, they look so silly… as soon as haitham found out that you could color things its over, he make some sweet things like putting a sign on top of your shared house with both initials with colored dye. he’s so happy, just not very vocal about it, but he has the smallest of smiles. he definitely has headphones with the crochet sprout on it omg😭 alhaitham does not like bees whatsoever, they stung him for trying to get food. he just wanted honey :[
“look, the dog’s collar is blue. and the sign’s letters are green and then if you add a glow squid’s ink, it lights up.”
┏━━━━━━ ━ ─ ╴⋯ ⟢
ARATAKI ITTO
╰┈➤ he has waited YEARS for someone to play minecraft with him omfg. certified snack hoarder for times like these. you both literally hit each other to show love, you’ve accidentally killed him once bc he didn’t tell you that he had like half a heart… itto likes the water, hates the guardians because who do you think you are attacking him out of nowhere??? gets one shotted by the elder guardian while trying to fight it with a stick and then blames it on magma blocks pulling him down. GAMING WITH HIM IS NEVER CALM GODS💀 you cannot lay on him or anything bc as soon as those cave sounds or disc 13 start playing, he’s already done sprung out of his seat. his screams are actually really funny though, you got him a cat from how much he’s been assaulted by creepers. when you introduced him to shaders, he was so in awe. “babe i have a shadow!” type of excitement JAKEJEJDMnda.
“the cat’s name is sir arataki the third, you are now my loyal guard cat. who’s an adorable little guy?”
┏━━━━━━ ━ ─ ╴⋯ ⟢
CYNO
╰┈➤ look at this nerd (affectionate), ofc he plays cubecraft. loved it so much that when he didn’t have the actual game, he would play the really bad knockoffs💀 plays on console so you can sit between his legs, lean back, and game with him. cyno hate the split screen because he always gets confused on what side he’s on so he lets you use his switch, that way you’re both still comfortable. he’s more of an explorer if you do get mod packs for him, likes the horror ones the most. there’s nothing like hitting the enemy or shit talking the thing that could potentially one shot you with your s/o‼️ yall crouch a lot, its like a little dance. he really likes the disc “far” it itches his brain in the right way. definitely downloads the little raccoon mobs but then regrets it because he gives up all his berries to them, look at their little begging arms, literally how can you say no to that?? AND THEY WASH THE BERRIES. you both fall asleep to the ambience and to each others breathing all cuddled up ‘n warm. cyno absentmindedly sings the music while chopping wood or mining that shit has you SLUMPED. he kisses your head when you fall asleep, smiling like a silly goober.
“do-do-do-do do-do-do-do do, neow neow neow nneow neeeowwww… huh? oh, i’m almost done then we can go to bed, yeah? i’ll charge the switch too, don’t worry. just rest.”
(he’s singing that one part in danny lmfao)
┏━━━━━━ ━ ─ ╴⋯ ⟢
DILUC
╰┈➤ diluc does not understand the concept of minecraft but its okay, he’s just happy to be here. he also doesn’t call it minecraft but “cave game”, the original name, he did his research though it is rare that he actually calls it minecraft. found out that you could breed animals and accidentally made a pack of wolves. diluc is really good with redstone its actually insane😭 he’s the type to protect you the whole time while you’re getting flowers for the house, boyfriend bodyguard. diluc doesn’t play much because of his job but when he does, he’s prepared to sit for hours and spend time with you :(. these are the times where he’s most affectionate, randomly kissing your cheek, getting water for the both of you before you play, etc. luc loves the mod pack “industrial”, he can build machines, how neat is that??? also it has way more OMFP with the added features it has yk? he likes the trains :D
“is the water running…? the water’s running, they have moving windmills!”
┏━━━━━━ ━ ─ ╴⋯ ⟢
KAEDEHARA KAZUHA
╰┈➤ kazuha has the most expensive equipment yet doesn’t use this shit half of the time unless he’s streaming with heizou??? like im talking msi infinite rs pc, multiple monitors, a graphic drawing tablet, headphones with immaculate sound quality AND!!! the ear cups have fucking cyberpunk 3d wing guards on them. but anyways, minecraft, yes, he plays. in fact, kaedehara has about 10 beaten hardcore worlds every time a new update comes out, he must beat the game again. he rarely plays minecraft without his shaders so when you want to play the original og minecraft, he doesn’t mind, he actually enjoys the nostalgia. so much so the music is actually his background music when he’s just lazing around. words cannot express how much he dislikes (hates) wardens omg. he’ll protect you from them but if there were diamonds behind a warden, ig he’s going somewhere else😭 kazuha gives you random shit, weather that be something really sweet or questionable…
“love, do you want my rotten flesh? here<3 oh! and, i also got you some steak, you’re low on hearts…”
┏━━━━━━ ━ ─ ╴⋯ ⟢
KAEYA
╰┈➤ he’s heard of it, watched people play, just never played it. but when he does… he’s a menace. kaeya got his hands on flint and steel and set an entire jungle on fire… but he can be sweet sometimes! you’re the one protecting his ass while he walks around at night UNARMED to gather blue flowers for you. like you’re cute, but take a shield or something😭 he’s jumped off of a tall building before and landed on half a heart for a stack of bread you didn’t want. he’s rather oblivious to the mobs around him, he once thought shulkers were friends because they were just “silly little guys in little boxes” yk until they almost killed him. you bought him his own skin and introduced him to parrots and now its his favorite animal, he looks like a pirate!!! kaeya is chaotically sweet.
“yes, you almost died protecting me but how could you resist my everlasting love plus pixelated blue flowers?”
(has a cat unironically named ice spice LMFAO)
┏━━━━━━ ━ ─ ╴⋯ ⟢
SHIKANOIN HEIZOU
╰┈➤ your boyfriend is good at literally anything else BUT minecraft. its the way this game constantly has it out for him too like what did bro do??🙁 heizou stream’s with kazuha every now and again and on those, he still doesn’t know what to do… he’d rather play on the servers, bedwars in particular. extremely good at bw, you’d rather NOT be his enemy😭😭 wins almost every single game even when he carries, rank 98 in the server. yet when it comes to a casual server between you and him, the chats are filled with his deaths and his hashtagged rages💀 heizou despises silverfish which is also why he hates going into strongholds, they could get stomped on for all he cares! >:( he has texture packs with really beautiful skies and then a picnic mod so he can stargaze with you and eats minecraft cake :(<3
“oh. babe, green is heading for our bed, no pressure or anything. i loovveee youuu😚”
┏━━━━━━ ━ ─ ╴⋯ ⟢
XIAO
╰┈➤ xiao has the MOST downloaded mod packs, shaders, and worlds. not very expensive mod packs most of the time but when they are, they’re always good. spends his time fighting off mobs at night, #1 totem holder. he even has his own custom skin!!! he’s kinda been waiting for you to ask so when you do play mc together, you already have your own room, but when you voluntarily move your bed into his room to sleep… he melts. xiao loves cuddling while the two of you play, he’d rather your arms around him than the other way around, feels more intimate. you have matching hoodies for occasions like this. he has the dragon mod pack and has his own golden and orange dragon named ‘li’. he doesn’t talk while gaming, curses silently when he gets hit, but other than that doesn’t talk. if you want to talk, he’ll listen, he likes hearing about your day :].
“no, keep talking. i’m listening. see, li’s listening too.”

Note
hi! may i request the sumeru men reactions to the reader asking for a hug?
Note: This is the first time I got a request. I was so excited I basically dropped everything else I was already writing to make drafts for this! I did my best I hope you guys like it, especially you random user! Thank you for the request! Please feel free to like, comment or reblog! I love hearing from you guys and engaging helps the posts reach a wider audience! Enjoy! (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・゚✧
ASKING SUMERU MEN FOR A HUG
CW: A bit suggestive but it's very safe for work! Some swearing in wanderer's part.
HC: Reader is gender-neutral, Reader does not have a vision. Established relationships but it's in the early stages (Aka you guys just started to date).
Characters: Al Haitham, Cyno, Kaveh, Tighnari and Wanderer
Al Haitham
 “Absolutely not.”
You never felt so defeated. It seemed that no matter where, when, or how you asked, he almost always refused to hug you. It wasn’t as if you were asking much from him either. It wasn’t like it was a kiss or more. It was just a hug, and here you were being rejected by the person that you had planned a future with.
“Why not? It’s normal for people who are DATING to do it!” Al Haitham hummed, almost in agreement but he refused to answer. You huffed, before tossing your arms up in the air in a rage. “You can’t just ignore me either! Why are you dating me if you want to do nothing with me?”
Al Haitham raised an eyebrow, cocking his head to the side. “I’m supposed to do something with you if we are dating?” You couldn’t help but stare in disbelief. “YES! THAT'S WHAT IT MEANS TO DATE!” He hummed again, and you could feel yourself fill up with rage.
“But we already do things together, “ He nonchalantly said, pulling out a list from his pocket. “ You slept over at my house, ate food off my plate and even took sips from my glass, borrowed my clothes and took pictures of me multiple times without my knowledge. So it’s pretty clear that we do ‘stuff’, as a couple.”
You groan, hands falling on your face in defeat. “It’s different! We barely do anything intimate! I want to hold you! “ You sigh. Arguing with him always felt like pouring water into a bucket with holes, no matter how much you fill it up it all goes to waste.
“Intimate you say?” Al Haitham mumbled, setting the list from his hand to a side before making his way to you. “Oh, we have been very intimate.” You squinted at him. He must be joking right? You guys don’t even hold hands!
“Don’t joke about this. I’m being serious.” “Do I look like someone who would joke?” You unconsciously began to step back, why was he getting closer? You didn’t like that. It didn’t take long before you bumped against a wall and there was barely an inch between the two of you at this point. Al Haitham looked at you and all you could do was nervously stare back. Did you go too far this time?
He leaned towards your ear, and since the distance had shortened you could feel the heat coming off from his body. You spoke trying to ease yourself. “When have we ever been intimate?” Al Haitham scoffed, making you flinch as he was too close to you now. Everything was too loud. His breath was too loud, and you could feel the breeze on your neck, sending chills all over your body. Your heart was also beating too fast, you were certain he could hear it as clear as day and you knew he was going to make fun of you for being so tense around him.
“You clearly don’t remember but of course I do. I’m quite a light sleeper.” With that, you felt a hand slide up your back, and you felt your body jolt up. “Maybe you don’t remember the times when you would feel me up like this? I’m trying to sleep after a busy day and then I can feel your hands slowly creeping up.” His words were almost a whisper but his actions were loud. Another hand circled your waist and slowly both hands pushed you close to his body. Chest to chest, you could almost feel his heartbeat as loud as yours.
“I don’t mind, it does feel nice to be held once in a while. But no one wants to hug someone the entire day.” He slowly put his face to the crook of your neck. The hand that was once sliding your back now holding your head in place, while his other arm circled your waist making sure you couldn’t leave his grasp. “Tell me, is this not intimate enough?” He chuckled, nipping at your neck.
You lost it, immediately pushing him away. You have never felt so hot and you could still feel your heart racing. The parts where he held you felt cold but the sensation continued to sting. You couldn’t believe that you had been feeling him up while you slept. All this time you had been hugging him and it seemed Al Haitham had a limit for it. This was the most embarrassing thing you had to find out about yourself. You had no idea how to defend yourself.
“Well? Is that not intimate enough? Do you want to do something else? Your quota for hugs is up but I’m up for doing more.” He suggested a light smile on his face. You couldn’t handle this.
“NEVERMIND! PRETEND I SAID NOTHING!” And with that you bolted out of the door, leaving Al Haitham alone in the room. He chuckled to himself once more, picking up the list he had set down before looking through it once more.
“One more thing added to the list I suppose.”
Cyno
“If you win a match against me, I will consider it.”
You stared at him in shock. He must be joking right?  “You’re joking right?” You ended up saying what you had been thinking. He shook his head. “Do I look like I am joking right now? I’ll tell you a joke later but right now I’m being serious.”
You sighed. You always refused to play a match with him. He always got so intense about genius invocation TCG and it also didn’t help that you were hopeless at card games. So in short he was setting you up for failure.
“I can’t believe this.” You mumbled to yourself, your hand pinching the skin between your eyebrows as you frowned in defeat. You can’t believe he would stoop this low just to play a card game with you.
“You know I can’t win.” “You won’t know until you try.” You huffed, an irritated smile on your lips as you looked at him in annoyance. “You already know I suck at card games. I lost at gin rummy, I always got last place in go fish and I even had to forfeit a match against Kaveh in poker! The man who always loses money! I lost to him!” You tried not to get embarrassed but who wouldn’t get embarrassed when they had to defend themselves by mentioning how much they have lost?
“Genius invocation TCG is different,” Cyno said, still refusing to budge. You could feel yourself wanting to throw a tantrum, but you decided to be the bigger person. You took a deep breath, calming yourself before you spoke up once again.
Who were you kidding, you were a petty bastard. “Well, I guess we can never hug or be close to each other. We can be the first couple in Sumeru that has any intimacy! Oh, parents will be so proud to tell our stories to children! “
You glared at Cyno who remained unphased. You sigh once more. “Whatever, I don’t have time to argue with you about this.” You began to turn around to leave but Cyno spoke up.
“What if I teach you?” You look over your shoulder to see if he was joking once again. He stood proudly, a face showing how confident he was in his ability. You groan, turning to face him once more. You didn’t want to argue with him.
“Fine.” You say, making your way towards him. “Let’s play a match.”
You don’t know what you expected when he said he was going to teach you how to play. You were not prepared for the fact he made you lean against him, his head resting on the crook of your neck while you both sat on the couch. Cards displayed in front of you lay in a mess.
You couldn’t think straight, his voice was right next to your ears, going on about which cards were the best supports and which character cards were the best. Wasn’t this technically a hug? He had his whole body wrapped around you. His entire body was interlocked with yours and you could feel the heat from his body radiate on yours.
His arms circled over yours, hands pressed on the back of your palms to make sure you held onto the cards correctly. His legs forced you to shut yours so he could sit behind you with ease. He had never been this close before. You never felt his voice this close to your ears.
You wondered if he noticed. Maybe this was what he planned from the start. Maybe he wanted to tease you a bit because of how much you tried to avoid him before. You decided to prod. “You know, If this is how we are going to play cards, maybe I won’t mind playing a couple of matches with you.”
Cyno stopped talking. You wondered whether he realised you caught on. Maybe he wanted to be this intimate with you and was just embarrassed to say it directly to your face. You waited for his answer. It almost felt like an eternity. Both your bodies are so close, almost as if you both were one. He finally spoke up.
“We can’t play cards like this. Otherwise, I will see your entire deck when we play an actual match.”
You never wanted to hit someone so badly.
Kaveh
“What?!”
You blink confused. “I just asked for a hug?” You question yourself, did you say something wrong? Kaveh stared at you, before replying with a nervous chuckle. “Ah yes, of course. A hug! Sure sure! Come here!” He said, extending his arms towards you.
You could see he was shaking a bit. Was he nervous? You almost felt bad asking him for a hug. He was shaking like a wet dog. “You know, it’s ok if we don’t hug? We can take our time with this.”
Kaveh blinked, his nervousness disappearing and replaced by sudden guilt. He dropped down on the couch, face covering his hands. “I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to make it a big deal.” He mumbled, refusing to look up at you.
You sat across from him, waiting to see if he would continue to speak. When you realised he wasn’t going to budge you sighed, speaking first. “Is something wrong? You always overthink these things so I would prefer if you just told me outright.” You ask, you always considered communication as an important role in a relationship. Kaveh was one to put up walls whenever you tried to initiate any form of intimacy, whether its words or actions. You just wish he could tell you why.
“I just..” He cut himself off. Suddenly he sat straight up, placing his hands on his knees before taking a big breath. “I haven’t been hugged in almost years.” Now it was your turn to be shocked. “What?!” Kaveh flinched at our outburst.
“What do you mean you haven’t been hugged?” You ask more confused than ever. “Ha well, you see I haven’t seen any of my family in years. And you know my friends, they aren’t your typical huggers.” He chuckled nervously, trying to play out what he said as a joke. Seeing that you didn’t laugh with him, he coughed in his hand in embarrassment. “ So, physical touch is not something I am used to.”
You both stayed in silence. Which made Kaveh more nervous. You could see how his leg would bounce up and down impatiently and how he refused to look you directly in the eyes. “I’m not going to be mad at you for not hugging me. If we have to take baby steps to help you overcome it then it’s fine. So if you want, we can start now or later.”
He finally looked at you, a calm smile dancing on your lips. You extended your arms out to him, encouraging him to take the first step. “It’s all up to you. We can stop at any time.” Kaveh anxiously looked at your arms, before slowly inching towards you.
It took a while but he embraced you. You could hear how loud his heartbeat was, and the heat rising on his cheeks felt warm on your neck. You thought he was immediately let go but to your surprise, he clung on a bit tighter. You took this as a sign to wrap your arms around his back. He felt very warm to your touch.
The tension on his shoulders loosened. As he slackened a bit you could suddenly feel his entire weight on your body. Unable to hold him up you felt yourself slowly pushed back on the couch. “Oof!” You let out, when you finally collided on the couch, Kaveh’s full weight fully pressing you down on the couch.
The minute you yelped, Kaveh immediately pushed himself off, now facing you as you lay beneath him. “I’m so sorry! I didn’t mean to push you down like that!” You let out a slight chuckle, your hand instinctively pushing a strand of hair out of his face. His face was already red from how shy he got from the hug but it seemed to get redder the more you played with his hair.
“Don’t worry about it. See? It’s not that bad.”
Tighnari
“I don’t mind but is this really the right time?”
To be fair he wasn’t wrong. You both were currently patrolling amongst the forest floors in Gandharva Ville and just finished clearing up a fungi infestation that was expanding nearby. So now you both were covered in mud and dirt, sweating profusely while making your way back to the Ville. So in theory, this was not the most ideal place to hug.
However, Tighnari barely has any time for you! Sure you guys are dating, but it’s very clear you both value your jobs too much! Anytime he is free you’re already back in Sumeru City to give the reports to the higher-ups and when you could finally make time for him he is already out patrolling before night comes. The minute you both come back you guys are so tired you immediately fall asleep where you stood. Heck, one time you had passed out near the entrance while he somehow ended up on the roof!
To put it simply your jobs were ruining any chance of you both from having any physical contact and now it was driving you insane. It didn’t help that Tighnari’s fluffy tail was always teasing you from a distance. You could kill if it meant you could hold it even for a second.
Today you both were finally able to patrol together after having your schedules never align for almost weeks. You even begged Collei to stay back just so you could have some alone time with him. You know you shouldn’t try to do anything inappropriate while doing your job but desperate times call for desperate measures.
You both were heading back to the Ville anyway. You’re certain the minute you guys reach and finish your reports you both would be too tired to do anything together! This was your only chance! “I know it’s not ideal but we barely have any time for each other! Please just for a minute!” You pleaded, begging he would budge.
Tighnari was one to do his job, he rarely deviated from his goal till he was done with it. But you were right, even he was getting impatient about how little you both could do together. He sighed. “Fine, just a hug.” You could almost hear angels sing the minute he agreed to your request.
“Anyway make it quick-” Before he could continue, you already pounced, cutting him off. Unable to hold your sudden weight, you both fell to the ground, more mud spilling to the sides. “Ew…” Tighnari groaned. You didn’t care about the mud or the fact you both were sweating like pigs. You had your arms already wrapped around him in an instant. Your face on his chest, listening to his heartbeat steadily. Who knew such a simple gesture as a hug would bring you such comfort?
Tighnari looked down to see you grinning happily. He couldn’t help but smile as well, wrapping his arms around you as well. He stroked your head and rubbed circles on your back. It was pretty clear you both needed this. He wasn’t sure how long you both stayed like that but he could see the sky begin to turn shades of orange and yellow, indicating the sun was setting.
“We should really get going now. “ He said, looking down at your form. To his disbelief, the sudden warmth and comfort you had gotten from his hugs had caused you to fall asleep. “Oh, you gotta be kidding me….” He groaned again, remembering that you were in fact, a heavy sleeper.
He had to carry you back to Gandharva Ville by himself. Lucky for him even in your sleep you refused to let go of him while he piggybacked you there. He began to take a mental note that maybe you both should request fewer hours of patrol and align your schedules together. He was not risking you falling asleep every time you both embraced. But for once you both will be able to go to sleep in each other’s arms.
Wanderer
“Are you out of your fucking mind?”
You honestly weren't surprised that was his response to you when you had asked for a hug. The day was tiring enough and all you wanted to do was cuddle with your partner after working all day and that was the response you had got.
Wanderer, Hat Guy, or whatever he was called was technically your partner. As in, he agreed to date you when you ended up blurting out that you found him quite attractive, however, he was far from a good partner. He didn’t like to hold hands. He refused to hang out with you in public. He won’t even eat with you!
Now here you were again, getting rejected once more by your ‘partner’. “Why would you say it like that?” You mumble, feeling embarrassed you thought he might have had a change of mind. Of course, to no one’s surprise, he didn’t. He scoffed. “What are you talking about? You humans always want to focus on such fickle things.”
You glared at him. You couldn’t believe you were dating this fool. Maybe it was your mistake of ever thinking he was cute. “It isn’t ‘fickle’. It’s what couples do!” You try to defend yourself. He, of course, was the outlier when it comes to dating. You weren’t sure if he had ever dated before. Even if he did, he was probably terrible at it even then. “If you don’t want to do any of these things with me then why did you agree to go out with me?”
He raised an eyebrow, he remained unphased with your outburst. “And it’s important to you?” You wanted to strangle him. He must be joking right? “Of course, it is important to me! I want to feel like we are a couple…” You huffed. Talking to him felt like smashing a wall with a hammer, only to find out he had already built another layer on the other side. No matter how many times you smashed it, he already had another one ready to piss you off.
He hummed, and all you could was stare, wondering whether he would respond. Seeing that he was not responding to it, you sighed. “You know what? Never mind, pretend I didn’t ask. Maybe we shouldn’t date, I don’t think we have the same values.” He immediately shot up, his entire attention now focused on you.
“Now wait a damn second” He started but you immediately cut him off. “Face it! We have nothing in common and you don’t want to do anything I want. Not only that, you have no plans for me too! “ You could feel that you were probably going to start rambling. But the minute you start it’s almost impossible to stop.
“You don’t want to do anything with me! Especially in public, we haven’t even gone out for that long but surely a walk together around the city wouldn’t be a bad idea? Not only that, you don’t even want to be seen with me at all! Am I that embarrassing to be around?” You continued to babble about. Unbeknownst to you, he already made his way towards you.
Before you could continue your rant, he wrapped his arms around you. You yelped, suddenly realizing he had picked you up as if you weighed nothing. Not only that, you were clearly levitating off the ground. You began to panic, trying to push him away, only resulting in him hugging you tighter, refusing to let you go.
“Let go of me!” You whined, trying to kick your feet, your hands on his shoulders trying to push him off. He was cold. A hug usually felt warm, but against your warm body, he chilled you down. As you begged him to let you go, he finally spoke. “I’ll let you down if you stop complaining. Deal?” You nodded eagerly. You were not a fan of heights and you didn’t want him to fly any higher.
“Good.” He said, slowly descending back to the ground, however even after he put you down he refused to let you go. “Now listen here you idiot, I don’t know what your plan is but I don’t plan on breaking up with you over something so minimal. However, if you think these things are important I’ll try to do them often. But before that let me make everything clear.”
He put his forehead on yours, closing any gap you had between the two of you. While your face began to burn up due to the realization of how close you both had become, his face remained unchanged. Unconsciously your hands slid back to his back, pulling him closer to you.
“Firstly, I don’t eat, especially because I don’t need to eat to maintain myself, so I consider it a waste.” He spoke in such a hushed tone now, you couldn’t believe how gentle he was at the moment. You weren’t even sure if you could concentrate on what he was saying. His words echoed in your ears like a siren, bouncing on the walls inside your mind.
“Secondly, I am being constantly monitored, due to reasons, and I don’t want a certain person to realize that we are together because she is not going to let me hear the end of it. “ For once you could see a faint redness on his cheeks, however, there was almost no heat that radiated from his body. He looked like a doll, and for once you began to realize how pale he was.
“Finally, you are the first person I have ever ‘dated’. I have been amongst humans for a very long time, but this is the first time I have gone beyond friendship. So this is a first for me. “ He pushed you back. You almost let out a whine, refusing to leave his embrace but he was going to overpower you in that sense. You missed the chill he gave you, now only surrounded by the warmth your own had produced.
While you pondered on how you missed his touch, he continued to speak. “I’m rude and blunt. I am not someone who understands why humans want to do certain things, however,” he grabbed your hands, squeezing them tightly in his palms, almost as if he didn’t plan on letting go. “ If these things are important to you then I will try to do them. I apologize for frustrating you. There, you happy now?”
You stared at his hands which grasped yours. Wanderer frowned, unhappy with how you have refused to respond to his speech that he did his best to articulate. “Well?” He impatiently asked. You looked up at him, a cheeky grin on your face.
“I’ll be happier if you hug me again!”

You used to never hear his footsteps coming.
This is a detail you once pointed out to him — more in jest than anything — which earned you an unexpectedly pensive look. No matter how light you intended your words to be, he weighed them as if each syllable were law. It had always been that way, for as long as you could remember. Back in your Akademiya days, if you made a little suggestion to Cyno’s work, he’d rewrite the entire paper to accommodate your idea better. If you wondered about a strategy’s viability in Genius Invokation TCG, he’d stay up for nights on end to test and record the data for later presentation. He was always so eager to please you. What he struggled to express in words, he’d make up for in his actions; accommodating and bending to your will if it meant you might look his way.
A few days after you joked about how quiet he moves around, he solemnly promised ‘to remedy the issue’. And sure enough, he did. He started to announce when he arrived home or would make some other noise so that he didn’t sneak up on you. You didn’t give it much thought then. Certainly, it was nice that you no longer got startled or had to worry he’d been silently watching you do something embarrassing, but it didn’t particularly stand out more than that.
Until now, that is.
You’d been alternating between chopping vegetables and plopping them into boiling water, humming to yourself while you did so. The scent of spices and herbs picked fresh from the market hours prior permeated the evening air. As always, the table was set for two. You always ensure to have a hot dinner waiting for him whenever he returns home.
Nothing seemed particularly out of place. There was no sudden draft, no creak from the front door whose hinges desperately needed oiling. You carried out your meal prep routine in the same humdrum manner as always.
Then there were arms ensnaring you.
You almost jump out of your skin at the abrupt sensation. In an instant, your body prepares itself to fight back before your mind can intervene. You twist your torso around, leading with the knife still in your hand, adrenaline shooting through your veins like a geyser. The blade never connects with its intended target, for a singular hand holds it unwaveringly still midair, overpowering you easily. It’s then that you finally register just who the unknown assailant is.
“Archons above, Cyno,” you lace your tone with exasperation, “You almost gave me a heart attack. What if I had…”
You shake your head, not wanting to consider it for even a moment.
He calmly plucks the knife from your grasp and sets it aside, taking the time to straighten it while you steady your breathing. He never liked anything to be crooked, utensils weren’t an exception. What immediately strikes you is how void of expression he seems. Some may claim that the General Mahamatra is incapable of emoting, but after knowing him for so long, you had caught onto his many tells. He stands up perfectly straight when he’s looking for an opportunity to insert his joke into a conversation. He sighs quietly to himself when he’s content. The skin beneath his eyes crinkles whenever he sees you.
These various nuances you’ve spent years accumulating suddenly feel useless, like a once bountiful fruit tree that has dried and withered away.
You almost doubt if the man staring back at you is Cyno.
“I found your brother.”
There are no inquiries about your day, rushing over to lend assistance with the meal, or kisses stolen whenever he sees an opening. He delivers the grim news without tact or any other reassurance such a statement necessitates. You swallow thickly, shrinking yourself into the counter behind you. He’s scrutinizing you just as much as you are him. Your homeostasis is thrown off, somehow causing you to both shiver and sweat. The blood-orange eyes that stare back at you are reminiscent of the scalding sun in the desert. Unrelenting, pouring down heat without favor toward anyone or anything.
“... I see,” is your careful response. You grip the counter for leverage until your knuckles ache. “Does that mean the investigation into him is concluded?”
“Far from it.”
You think you can afford to look downcast upon receiving heavy news like this, so you do. That begs the question of what intonation to use next. He’s obviously waiting for you to speak up and say something more on the topic — hence his silence — yet having the spotlight thrust on you so abruptly leaves you feeling unprepared. Do you sound remorseful? Apologize for your brother’s grievances? Or do you sound satisfied, content that the arduous search has come to an end?
You decide to try a combination of both.
“I appreciate all your hard work in tracking him down,” the melancholy in your smile is genuine. You transition to something more sheepish, avoiding his burning gaze by looking to the side. “I know it hasn’t been easy. I suppose he’ll be brought to justice.”
“Everyone always is,” Cyno confirms. The corners of your mouth twitch. “He inquired after you.”
“Oh?”
“Normally, I don’t make a habit of talking to fugitives, since they’re always trying to worm their way out of due punishment. I made an exception in his case. I told him that I’ve been taking care of you in his stead; that you don’t want for anything. He seemed relieved. He must’ve assumed his assets would be seized once his academic infringements came to light… and still, knowing this, he chose to put your livelihood at risk.”
This is a safe conversation topic for you to lean into. Cyno always contended himself on the fact he solely provides for you.
“We’ve both caused you a lot of trouble.”
Normally, when you say something in this vein, Cyno rushes to reassure you that you’re no trouble at all. That he would give you the clothes off his back if you requested it. Presently, he does no such thing. You finally pick up on a telltale sign woven into his otherwise unreadable body language — how he’s struggling not to clench his jaw. Subdued frustration. While you’re used to playing an actor who must improvise their lines, Cyno must still be adjusting to the role. How unfortunate that you know he’s a fast learner.
You focus on the sound of boiling water threatening to overflow by your side. Neither of you moves to adjust the heat so that it won’t, too absorbed in what the other will or won’t do next.
“You said that it’s been hard work for me to track him down,” Cyno starts, reaching his thumb and pointer finger out to tilt your chin upward. You fight back the urge to flinch. “I agree, although, it shouldn’t have been. Not if he didn’t have help.”
He knows.
“... Not if he didn’t have you.”
The world is falling apart and you don’t know if anything can force the jagged pieces back together.
When it came to interrogation, few were better than Cyno. He understood it on an intrinsic level. When to apply pressure, when to offer a false sense of security, what words and actions it takes to utterly break a person. You thought knowing this in advance might offer you some sort of advantage. Never have you had an assumption proven so painfully wrong.
“What?” You demand, your eyebrows furrowing together. You are a virtuoso at playing the tune of ignorance. “What exactly do you mean by that?”
It’s a solid performance. Most innocent parties are rightfully outraged when faced with serious accusations they had nothing to do with. Their righteous anger is different from the guilt-ridden outbursts of their guilty counterparts, Cyno would tell you. In the same way an expert artist could differentiate between two shades that appear alike to any other unskilled eye, Cyno noticed all the minute details. This was what he did best. This was his life’s calling.
He runs the coarse pad of his thumb over your trembling lower lip, his eyes lidded. Then, he whispers, “You are a good liar, aren’t you?”
“I—”
Cyno shushes you and you’re compelled to listen.
“I’ve tracked down individuals with networks spanning across all of Teyvat in less time than it took for me to find your brother, who has no resources,” Cyno’s words are accompanied by electricity thrumming in the air — a warning that the time to be judged is nigh. “I couldn’t understand. It was as if he knew my movements in advance and planned accordingly.”
His grip on you tightens. “I lost sight of my objectivity. You… make me lose sight of objectivity. Still, that didn’t explain how exactly you were getting the information. I ruminated on this for some time. After all, what would my suspicions matter if I didn’t have anything definitive to work with? Then you asked me that favorite question of yours. ‘What time can I expect to have you home for dinner’, was it?”
You had been playing with something infinitely more dangerous than fire.
“You have enough knowledge of Sumeru’s geography to guess where I’d be going with the tiniest information,” Cyno narrows his eyes, “Isn’t that right, [First]?”
His exposed chest heaves, each breath coming out heavier than the last. The feverish skin that touches yours tingles in rhythm with the thrumming of his Vision. You wonder if any god would take pity and bestow their favor upon you. It’s a silly thought to entertain, for you know that even if they did, his strength far surpasses yours. There’s always the option of arguing your case. Combing through his words for inconsistencies you’d never find, prolonging an admission of guilt to the charges being presented. That would only add fuel to the raging hot fire.
“They were going to lock him up for life, Cyno,” your throat is tight and it all feels like too much. “I-I know that what he did was wrong, and— there are no good excuses to justify it. He told me as much before he fled. He said… he said that they’d been denying him funds for years. His research had been his dream since he was a kid. When I heard that, I just… I wanted to protect him.”
From you.
Tears gather upon your bottom eyelashes like dew on blades of grass at daybreak.
“The scales that your justice relies upon, how can you know they aren’t imbalanced? What good will throwing someone into a prison cell until they rot do? That’s no recompense for a crime committed, it’s punishment for punishment’s sake!”
Cyno allows you to finish your rambling without interruption. From what you understood, when the General Mahamatra found one that ‘must be brought to justice’, they’d immediately be whisked away. He never extended the process more than necessary and was almost considered fair for this facet of his. As a man so entirely defined by his ideals, you assume you’ll receive no different treatment. Obstructing an ongoing investigation and aiding a known fugitive were both sentences that’d be wrapped around your neck like a noose.
You decided that if the day ever came when he discovered your damning secret, you’d go down with some dignity intact. This was something you made peace with when you struggled to sleep beside someone you were actively deceiving. So you brace yourself for the absolute worst. You squeeze your eyes shut, preparing for whatever he might say while he arrests you, the inevitable tug on your wrist that’d come as he drags you off to whatever clammy holding cell awaits.
“Did you ever truly love me, or was it all a ploy?”
His voice is so quiet, you almost thought you imagined it.
This was the last thing you expected to be confronted with following such a severe revelation. The ache in his usually self-assured voice, the utter rawness that threatens to rip your soul asunder; accumulates and weighs you down. You force yourself to reopen your eyes. To own up to your mistakes, no matter how little it’d do to mend the gaping chasm that’s formed between you.
The scathing intensity in his eyes has long cooled off. What it leaves behind is far more delicate than glass.
“I’ve always loved you dearly, nothing changes that,” you reply in truth. As a friend and someone you could always rely on. You hope to leave this part unspoken, but by how close he is, you doubt he’ll leave it at that.
“Romantically?” He probes further.
You inhale sharply through your nose. “Cyno—”
“If you’re going to lie or avoid the question, do us both a favor and remain silent.”
At this, you obediently purse your lips.
He relaxes his grip on you, his arms falling to his side, though you know better than to think that means you can walk away. Anxiety swarms inside your gut and clouds your other senses. The fear of what comes next always triumphs over the fear of the present. It’s this thought that urges you to risk speaking up again, though your better judgment advises against it.
“Are you going to arrest me?”
The question seemingly pains him almost as it does you. He’s normally so certain of himself, ready to respond at a moment’s notice. His convictions were a firm foundation that he built himself up from. It never mattered to him who one was, or their reasons for doing what they did, so long as they breached the Akademiya’s rules, they would be hunted down by him without reprieve.
That’s why you can hardly believe what he says next.
“No.”
“Then what,” you lick your lips, almost not wanting to finish the dreadful question, “Are you going to do with me?”
“That has yet to be determined.”
You gape at him, incredulous. His usual calm and calculating ways have returned. He’s regained control over his voice and body, betraying nothing that you can work with. Cyno finally breaks his attention away from you, taking the overflowing pot of water off the heat source, then grabbing the knife from earlier to finish chopping the vegetables. Your heart beats faster with each thump of the knife against the cutting board. His side profile is decidedly neutral, his eyes barely flickering to you like this was just any other regular evening. The hairs on the back of your neck stand and the more primal part of your brain urges you to do something, anything.
Subconsciously, you take a step toward the door, holding your breath while you do so.
“Don’t bother,” Cyno’s tone is flat and unimpressed. “No matter where you hide, or how far you run, if you take one step out of this house, I will track you down.”
You thought your resolve was firm — that you’d be prepared for anything, if it meant helping your family — but this is something you never dreamed of.
“There’s no need to look at me like that. I won’t hurt you or let any harm befall you. After all, you said it yourself. If it’s no good to ‘throw someone in a cell until they rot’, then surely, there must be a better alternative. I’m interested in seeing this novelty myself. So, [First], what recompense do you suggest for a broken heart? In my opinion, there is only one fair trade that exists for such a steep debt.”
He tilts his head, daring you to challenge him in any way. When you don’t, he continues, and oh, how you wish he didn’t.
“And that is for you to finally give me yours.”

*Crunch*
*Crunch*
*Crunch*
The leaves underneath yours continued to make a loud satisfying crunch noise as you walked across it. You were writing, ticking and reviewing things for your boyfriend Tighnari.
You weren’t paying too much attention to where you were going, you were only using the map you had made. Though it wasn’t finished yet, when Tighnari asked for your help to review some new plants he discovered, you agreed. I mean you could kill two birds with one stone. You can help him AND finish your map.
Though perhaps you shouldn’t have walked too far as eventually you found yourself in a rather…dead looking place. You were quick to note this place down, even sketching the general area but, as you were doing this, your legs felt like they were weighing you down, they felt as if someone was forcing your legs to fall to to ground. You stumbled to your knees and held your head, your breath a bit rigged, looking around you finally remembered what Collei said. You were in a Withering Zone.
You tried to stand up but your head and everything on your body hurt. You tried your best to stay conscious, so you could go back and tell Tighnari and Collei about the location of the Withering Zone. You stumbled a bit to get out, but your vision started to get blurry, and it got blurrier and blurrier before everything went black.
.
.
.
Cynos walked past a few forest rangers as he made his way home. He couldn’t wait to have dinner with his boyfriends after such a long day…that is until someone seemed to be calling for him.
“General Mahamantra!! General Mahamantra!!!”
Came the voice, constantly repeating his title. He let out a light sigh and turned around.
“Yes? What’s the pro-”
His eyes widened as he saw the Forest Ranger carrying an unconscious you towards him, he was quick to drop his weapon and rush over, taking you into his own arms. He looked at the Forest Ranger with concern in his eyes.
“What.Happened”
“I-I don’t know, I was doing a patrol and saw him unconscious in the Withering Zone…”
He looked at the Forest Ranger for a bit before nodding, carrying [Name] in his arms as he quietly thanked them, grabbing a hold of his weapon as well, as he made his way back to his house.
.
.
.
“Oh Cyno you’re ba- WHA- WHAT HAPPENED TO [NAME]”
Collie asked, quickly rushing over, her voice reaching Tighnari as he quickly entered the room as well, quick to take [Name] and set them on his bed.
“A Forest Ranger found them like this…they’ll be okay, correct?”
“I have some medical herbs for them, they’ll be fine as long as I take care of them”
Tighnari speaks, yet the more Tighnari worked on them the more he seemed uncertain about that. Cyno paced back and forth as Collei attempted to calm him down. Trying to reassure him.
.
.
.
“Nari…it’s been 3 days…t-they’re going to wake up right?”
“They’re breathing…”
Tighnari speaks, taking a sip of water that Cyno gave him. As he breathed out, his ears drooped as he looked back at you still on the bed.
“I gave him all the medicine I knew that could help…”
“...I’m…sure it’ll be okay…”
They both stared in silence, nothing can be heard other than the breaths of the people in the room and the sounds of the glass landing on the table softly.
The sounds of the birds chirping unaware of the situation and the sounds of Collei taking over for Tighnari as the main Forest Ranger. And the sounds of someone groaning in pain and the bed sheets ruffling…wait.
Both Cyno and Tighnaris eyes dart towards you as you slowly attempted to get up, Tighnari was quick to gently yet sternly place your head back on the bed.
“Stay. It’s not a good idea to get up so quickly after being passed out for so long”
Tighnari instructs, you were going to protest but the stern look you got from BOTH your boyfriends made you shut up with a small sigh then a chuckle followed.
“...How long was I out for?”
“3 days”
Cyno answered as Tighnari went to get some more medicine for you to aid with any pain you felt when you woke up. You looked at Cyno a bit, before asking him to help you up with your eyes, no words exchanged. Just silence.
Cyno sighed a bit but went over and helped you sit up with a soft smile. He was happy you were okay. By this point Tighnari came back and slowly fed you some medicine.
“This is newly made from the latest shipment I got. It contains some medical flowers and plants”
“I herb it helps people feel better”
*SILENCE*
Tighnari blinks back at Cyno, narrowing his eyes.
“Hm? Don’t get it, well plants and flowers have leaves, leaves can also be called herbs. Herb sounds like heard”
“I got it Cyno but…this was not the time”
Tighnari states, rubbing his temples. He looked back at you about to ask how you were feeling now and if you’d like water…until he saw you about to laugh as well.
“...[Name]...no, don’t you-”
“Where does a boat go when it’s sick? The dock”
You grinned, ignoring the forest rangers plea, the General Mahamatra however was more than happy to continue on.
“Why don’t ants get sick? Because they have little anty bodies”
“Where do horses go when they’re sick? The horspital”
“What did the sapling say when they heard their friend was all better now? Tree-rific”
“YOU TWO.”

The aftermath of Dating Cyno (featuring Tighnari)
Dating Cyno is here. Gender neutral reader, angst lol.
--
You started to volunteer as a forest ranger when you realised you couldn't work anywhere else without thinking of Cyno. You saw him around often when you weren't in Ghandarva ville, and it never stopped hurting when he no longer showed you any affectionate looks. You knew you could defend yourself and fight when it was needed, and you never fully understood why Cyno thought the relationship being public would be an issue.
Tighnari found out more about you when you volunteered more, asking him if you could perhaps work there. He asked for your CV, expecting a subpar thing, only to be impressed when he spots your previous work. He takes you under his wing, taking you along for more difficult excursions.
When he asks you to accompany him to an outing with his friend, you nod. You thought it would be nice to see what your boss was like outside of work, and you felt like you were finally starting to move on from Cyno.
When you see Cyno with someone there, you were dreading the whole thing. The dinner consisted of Tighnari shaking his head disapprovingly at Cyno whenever he cracked a joke, the person sitting next to him hugging his arm and giggling at whatever Cyno said - even the things that were so obviously not jokes - and you feeling entirely out of place. Cyno didn't dare look at you either, and you thought it was simply because he was sick of seeing you all the time.
"What do you think of the joke, hmm?" Cynos partner asks, looking over at you. "I found it hilarious. Babe, you're so funny."
You manage to stop the eye roll, but you can't stop the unimpressed look.
"It wasn't funny." You bluntly state.
Tighnari nods, expecting that to be that.
"Oh, you're just jealous that the funniest man in Teyvat is not single." The person presses themselves against Cynos arm, him not making a move to shake them off.
"I'm not jealous of a man who makes terrible jokes." You state. Tighnari tries to stop you from being too harsh, but he's unable to stop it. "If he wants a laugh out of people - a genuine laugh - he needs to try."
Silence at the dinner table, the clanking of cutlery being the only thing in the room. You excuse yourself from the table, paying for the meal before leaving. Hearing a set of footsteps chasing to catch up with you, you brace yourself for a scolding.
"What was that?" Tighnari asks.
"What? He isn't funny." You continue to be blunt.
"But that felt way more personal than what most people would say." Tighnari explains. "I want to know why you were so abrupt with Cyno."
"Promise to keep this to yourself?" You ask, looking around to check nobody is eavesdropping. Seeing a nod, as well as nobody else, you continue. "Cyno and I used to be lovers. He forbade us from being public, explaining it was for my safety. Seeing that person being affectionate hurt."
Tighnari nods in understanding.
"If I am being honest, I think you'd treat my friend better than that gold digger." Tighnari states, catching you off guard. "What? It's true, isn't it? The way they kept batting their eyelashes, ordering the more luxurious items on the menu and finding every little thing Cyno said funny?"
"I got all that, but you couldn't think of another term?" You scold him lightly, Tighnari smirking as he shakes his head no.
"Well, I'm sorry for ruining the atmosphere at the table there regardless." You apologise.
"Don't be." Tighnari states. "I think both Cyno and myself felt happier in a way. It stopped that person from being as blatant as they were before." He laughs lightly, looking over at the forest. "I wished you told me about the situation, although I think I should have told you about my friend as well." He reasons.
You nod, thinking to yourself once again.
"So...when did Cyno start dating them?" You ask. "Not that I'm hoping to be a replacement, I just want to know if I was somehow a side piece. I don't think he would do that, but I would like that closure as well."
"Well, I believe they only started dating a few days ago based on his letters. It is strange, Cyno accepting that much affection this early." Tighnari sighs out. "Maybe he's growing desperate."
A desperate man that wasn't happy with the idea of you being affectionate in public with him in the entire duration of your relationship, you think to yourself.
"Less of that." Tighnari scolds lightly. "Yes, you said that out loud." He tuts, you now at your house. "Well, get some rest, and don't let that gold digger get you down." He waves, heading back home.

This is a long one! I'll be updating it regularly as I read more that I enjoy ~
Tumblr media
exodus 20:3: you shall have no other gods before me (Explicit)
Childe finds out that the alcohol in Liyue is a force to be reckoned with. It leads to much more than just a hangover.
ajax's adventures with Dog-Lizard (Fluff)
That’s got to be the weirdest looking dog Ajax has ever seen in his life.
after hours (Explicit)
A man is approaching him with a bundle of hardware, straps, and coiled ropes in his arms. He’s wearing a tailored suit — definitely expensive — but missing a tie, and his shirt is unbuttoned far enough for Zhongli to see a nasty set of scars that run across his chest.
He’s very attractive, a little intimidating, and not at all what he’d imagine an accountant would look like-
law and order (Explicit, ft. Neuvilette)
This can’t be the accountant, can it?
There seems to be more than meets the eye when it comes to the Chief Justice and the God of Contracts. A simple trip to Fontaine with Ajax for a vacation turns into something more than they both anticipated.
ceci n’est pas la perfection (Explicit)
After Zhongli asks Childe to marry him, Childe panics and runs away to Fontaine to sort out his feelings. Rejected and confused, Zhongli chases after him to try to understand why.
contractual obligation (Explicit, ft. Lumine)
“You drew up a contract for what?” Lumine stares at her lunchtime companions, jaw working, no further words coming out. When she’d received an invitation to lunch from Zhongli, she hadn’t expected much.
fishbowl:heaven (Suggestive, Angst)
Childe, a world-class professional runner, is reeling from a diagnosis with a terminal heart condition. Stuck in bed with a failing heart, he can’t run, travel, or do anything that gave him purpose before. His career and life appear to be over.
To help him adjust, the doctors prescribe Childe virtual reality therapy. He doesn’t expect much to come of it until he meets a mysterious fellow patient, Zhongli.
etched in stone (Explicit, Fluff, Slice of Life)
I Lie Awake In The Night Just To See Another Dawn (Explicit)
A trip through the ages as Zhongli and Childe learn what it means to love each other.
Childe has returned to Snezhnaya, Liyue has moved on from Osial's reawakening. But war on the borders lying between Fontaine and the land of ice looms ominously on the horizon. While war seems inevitable, and politics begin to shift, Zhongli knows he will follow Childe to the ends of the earth, even if it costs him the highest price.
old instincts die hard (Fluff, Hurt/Comfort)
Is the life of one mortal worth the death of a God?
After spending the greater part of his life all too used to the threat of a blade being drawn against him, Childe has learned not to trust a hand raised toward him, lest it seek to strike while his defenses are lowered. But now in a fresh relationship with Zhongli, he finds his old instincts standing in the way of enjoying something more with the man he's come to adore.
Childe's guide on what to do when your lover turns into a pint-sized dragon overnight (Fluff, Humour)
red thread (Explicit)
When Childe and Zhongli first began their relationship, Childe thought he was prepared for whatever Zhongli might throw at him. Draconic heats, Adepti courtship rituals, scales - he was ready for anything. However, waking up next to a tiny, chubby dragon was not something he thought he’d have to consider.
Childe's face burns. “Zhongli,” he hisses. “This is the theatrical performance you wanted me to attend?”
red heart, orange sun (Explicit, ABO dynamics)
wait, is this play about us? (Explicit)
Four occasions that make Childe’s heart race, for a variety of reasons.
dragonheart (Fluff, Implied MPreg)
Zhenyu's next best-selling light novel has finally arrived in Inazuma! Childe definitely was not expecting to star as the main protagonist when he picked up the new collection, though...
a wasp in every fig (Explicit)
A tsmok of the north meets a dragon of the east.
venus caelestis (Explicit, NSFW Art)
Zhongli tries something different, and Childe is a very, very good boy.
the heart beats in its cage (Explicit, Angst)
childe hasn't spoken to zhongli in 3 weeks, but through the misfortune of becoming afflicted by an aphrodisiac, he finds himself at zhongli's door in search of help
an age of gods and monsters (Mature)
“So, pretend I’m her. Just for the night, one night, you can have her back.” Childe curled his fingers into the front of Zhongli’s shirt. He hoped he sounded self-assured, not desperate.
my all (Explicit, Angst)
When Liyue faces an inevitable catastrophe, Childe finds himself back in the past to retrieve the Gnosis that Zhongli has lost. Perhaps if he returns to the present with it, both Liyue and its Archon can be saved.
tame the thunderclouds (Explicit)
Childe asks Zhongli for one last dinner before leaving Liyue. Zhongli accepts.
more espresso, less depresso (Fluff)
it is a privileged sight for zhongli, to bind the eleventh harbinger and force him to his knees.
set in stone (Explicit)
There's a quaint little coffee shop that catches Childe's eye as soon as soon as he arrives into town. The man that works inside is more exhilarating than any drink Childe has ever tasted.
promises and proposals (Explicit)
What do you do when you write about a certain six thousand year old consultant so much in your letters that it somehow convinces your entire family you're not only dating each other, but that you're also engaged?
lithic oath (Explicit, ABO dynamics)
Childe and Zhongli have been happily dating for nearly a year, and they’re just as in love as ever. Zhongli is perfectly satisfied with the state of their relationship, but an unexpected development between two of his closest friends spurs him to consider his future plans with Childe. And just maybe he’ll need to pick out a ring one of these days.
as the sun gazes upon the moon (Explicit)
Liyue Harbor is the last place on Teyvat that Ajax wanted to see a second time, but the Tsaritsa's orders are absolute.
Childe is lost to the abyss for a week.
calm my head (Explicit)
hook, line, and sinker (Explicit)
Zhongli wants to try something new, and Childe would simply agree to anything when he's caught between his thighs.
off the record (Explicit)
Childe once saw a glimpse of his nerdy Uni roommate Zhongli, and it was over for him. Cue the pining, the moping, the fucking around to forget the sight of those rock-hard abs hidden underneath those sweater vests. Just one problem: Zhongli thinks exactly the same.
stone endures, and the tide will always return (Explicit)
An important meeting is coming up. A last minute change radically alters Zhongli's plans.
the fox of feiyun slope (Explicit)
The cobblestones of Liyue Harbor have been replaced by asphalt, the buildings by sleek skyscrapers and storefronts. Rex Lapis is a figure in the history books, nothing more, and the Harbinger Tartaglia is barely more than a footnote in his long and storied legacy. No one believes in the old Archons anymore.
night time; tea leaves; good company (Explicit)
A certain fondness for a client was good; it made the job easier and the quality of the work more genuine. Zhongli had never once gotten attached. He didn’t expect this boy to be the first.
frame the wallflower (explicit)
Lonely nights are best spent over pots of tea in good company. In terms of tea, Zhongli already knows what he likes. In terms of company - he makes a discovery.
Childe, a young CEO of the multi-billion dollar company “Fatui”, is dealing with more inappropriate gestures and remarks in regards to him being single than he cares for. Zhongli, a consultant of the Wangsheng Funeral Home, is going through a financial crisis, with every possible liability hitting him at once.
wrapped up in pure gold (Fluff)
When ranting to each other over drinks one night, they come to the most absurd solution to both of their problems: pose Zhongli as Childe’s boyfriend and sugar baby, just until everything settles, of course. Childe has more than enough money to spare, Zhongli doesn’t mind helping a friend in need, and their arrangement is flawless. At least, it appears to be that way.
nodus tollens (Explicit)
Childe accidentally proposes to Zhongli. Zhongli accepts.
one of us dies tomorrow (Explicit, Angst)
In all his years in the Fatui, Childe has never had problems following through with his archon’s orders. That is, until The Tsaritsa sends him his final mission--to leave Snezhnaya and marry the Geo Archon, Rex Lapis.
swore to stone and spoken (Explicit, ABO dynamics)
Tomorrow, Tartaglia will take Rex Lapis's gnosis or die trying. Today, Childe gets a final chance to tell Zhongli how he feels. No misunderstandings, no betrayal, and no doubts.
erosion (Mature)
It's been some time since the whole "nearly destroying Liyue" thing. Zhongli has decided he wants their pair-bond to be mutual and asks Childe to mark him. Childe has an existential crisis.
slow embers (Fluff)
There are two things that make Childe who he is--one is his Archon, with her icy fingers and arctic voice and eyes that see into every part of him. The other, as it turns out, is Zhongli.
why does my baba call my teacher baobei? (Explicit, Fluff)
Childe returns. He and Zhongli go on a food tour.
“Guili… over here!” a gentle velvety voice rings through the huddle of parents greeting their children.
man i love fishing (Explicit, Comedy)
Guili perks up at the sound, screaming “dada” and drags Childe towards the most ethereal man he’s ever laid his eyes on.
before it winds down into memories (Explicit, Angst)
Childe’s disastrously down-bad for the MILF next door.
pick me up, take me home (Fluff, Angst)
Childe has his doubts, but Zhongli reminds him that he’s loved.
ganymede (Explicit, Comedy)
Zhongli and Childe finally reunite, but Zhongli didn't expect his beloved to arrive bearing injuries instead of a long-awaited embrace.
“Can we get a room with two beds for the night?” Zhongli asked.
phantom lines (Explicit, Fluff)
She looked through her book of reservations before furrowing her brow. “I’m sorry, gentleman, but the only room I have left is our Honeymoon Suite.”
some kind of resurrection (Explicit, Comedy)
In which Childe has insomnia, vandalizes public property and runs into a mysterious funeral consultant on his first night in Liyue.
between the raging tides (Explicit, Hurt/Comfort)
After overhearing a fascinating story about an obscure temple tucked into some corner of Liyue Harbor, Childe had only meant to have a little fun at Zhongli's expense; he'd earned at least that much after the Osial Incident. Unfortunately for Childe, his track record at outmaneuvering Zhongli isn't exactly stellar.
i wake with your memory over me (Explicit, Reincarnation)
“Isn’t this backwards, Morax?” There’s a mocking edge to Childe’s tone. “Since when do gods get on their knees?”
the white cicada society (Explicit)
Zhongli has lived, died, and remade himself eight times when he sees him again.
The murders aren’t limited to the one Bank. They’ve been trailing down the Liyue border, getting closer and closer to the city. The Tsaritsa has a new mission for him: to figure out who, or what is targeting Fatui forces.
divine intervention (Explicit)
Against his best wishes, Childe is forced to see Zhongli again at the morgue. It becomes clear that he’s going to need a guide, and Childe resolves to quash his pride, and their differences to request his help to navigate Liyue and solve the case.
jade without blemish (Explicit, Mutual Pining)
“The only thing that can counter the mark of an Abyss Lector is the essence of an archon,” Zhongli explains, not meeting Childe’s eyes.
a kiss to show my sincerity (Mature, Fluff)
The Emperor and Empress of Liyue were known throughout Teyvat as a loving and powerful couple. But behind closed doors, it was all an act. Needless to say, a certain Snezhnayan diplomat's trip to Liyue did not go as planned.
“Childe?” Zhongli walks over. “Are you alright?”
“Yes,” he croaks, pretending he didn’t think that Zhongli looked outrageously pretty in his clothes.
“Your face is red. Have you fallen ill?”
introspection (Fluff)
“No, no, no. I’m fine. I’m peachy. ” He says, like a liar.
"Ah... a lizard."
As far as stupid things that Childe has said through his life, this easily contended for the top position on the list.
between dreams and nightmares (Angst, Mutual Pining)
A dragon. This was a dragon. Which is arguably also a lizard.
What I Cannot Put into Words, I Offer You in the Weight of Gold (Angst, Pining, Fluff)
When the Abyss clings onto a person, it follows—and in this case, it follows Childe to his station in Liyue, leaving three of his companions with a puzzling missing person’s case and, for Zhongli, unresolved feelings that weigh on his old soul, alongside a series of strange dreams.
meteor shower (Explicit)
Childe processes just how different Rex Lapis, God of Contracts, and Zhongli, Wangsheng Funeral Consultant, really are. They coincide at the worst of times, and it does some truly awful things to his heart.
How would it feel to fall in love again? To be held, live in the present, and enjoy a mortal life?
Care to Learn More About Wangsheng Funeral Services? (Explicit, Comedy)
If only a God could ever experience such pleasures and luxuries. They are short-lived and not worth it. At least that's what Zhongli had thought until he truly tried it. But the past will always come back to hunt the God. Happiness truly is a luxury.
the autumn winds are sighing (Angst, SickFic, Fluff)
“Zhongli…” Childe whispered as quietly as he could, which wasn’t hard due to the shock of the situation. It figured that between getting married to an Archon, becoming immortal, and having to deal with three other Archons circling around their business that it would be Zhongli’s fully mortal employer that would really pull the rug out from underneath his feet. “Did you agree to let Hu Tao give a commercial for the funeral parlor at our wedding?”
It’s been two months since the storm, and Childe hasn’t seen Zhongli not even once, not since that fateful meeting with the Signora where the truth is finally unveiled.
the world is water (Explicit)
And what a fun little kick to the gut that is, the realization that not only had he been played by all sides, but he's also being tossed aside like trash now that his use had run its course.
Tumblr media
Childe doesn't visit Zhongli until it's almost too late.
andante, andante (Fluff)
a cheating man's bouquet (Explicit)
higher education, falling in love, and genius invokation tcg. not necessarily in that order.
you're exactly what i need (Explicit)
a married man flirts with tighnari at the flower shop so cyno decides to put the man in his place the next day.
verdant304 (Explicit)
after sparring with Alhaitham, Tighnari tends to Cyno's bruises
After being pushed into a corner, Tighnari takes unsolicited advice from his university project partner Alhaitham and tries to sell lewd pictures of himself on the internet. That was the idea anyway, in practice he can't take a good picture to save his life.
a cure for denial (Explicit, ABO dynamics)
Luckily, his estranged roommate Cyno has a knack for taking really good pictures...
scientific curiosity (Explicit)
Tighnari asked for help dealing with his heat after being on suppressants for ten years. Cyno was more than willing to assist.
Tumblr media
Led by the prospect of an exciting botanical discovery, Tighnari heads into the Avidya Forest and invites Cyno along. Little do they know just what kind of discoveries await them there.
i'll show you every version of yourself tonight (Explicit)
“When we have sex, you like to call me things,” Kaveh continues, trailing off into a whisper.
Alhaitham props his cheek on a hand, looking only slightly amused with where this is going. “What things?”
dancing in the refrigerator light at 2am (Explicit, Hurt/Comfort)
“Like… like, pretty– and such.” Kaveh’s pout deepens into a frown. “Do you mean it?”
tracing other people's poetry (Explicit)
The people of Sumeru are granted dreams, and Kaveh is given nightmares. Now, Alhaitham does whatever he can to help quiet down Kaveh's mind in any way he can.
Three or Four (Or Possibly Five) Easy Steps to Living Harmoniously With Your Roommate (Fluff, Comedy)
Alhaitham has yet to identify this feeling that resides in his chest, this heavy and all-consuming, unpredictable feeling, whenever Kaveh is involved. He wants to open himself up and crack his ribs into tiny chucks, to remove them from their places and peer inside his heart so that he may finally learn what lives here.
in a language he understands (Fluff, Angst)
Kaveh devises a plan to get Alhaitham to smile by being aggressively nice to the man (and also maybe if he makes Alhaitham happy, he can score a discount on his rent or something). Alhaitham thinks Kaveh ate some mind-altering mushrooms and is, understandably, confused and mildly afraid.
Kaveh used to think that Alhaitham had mastered the art of ignoring him. The man would remain unflappable as he continued to read his worn copy of The Origins of Enkanomiyan Language, even when Kaveh was a hair’s breadth away from shattering the windows of their house with his severity of pitch.
No amount of screaming, threats to throw things, or violently waving in front of him could get Alhaitham to pause in his thirst for knowledge. As it turns out, Alhaitham literally just turns his hearing aids off so he doesn’t have to listen to Kaveh.
Romantistique (Explicit, Fluff, Angst)
It’s for this exact reason that Kaveh has decided to learn Sumerian Sign Language.
ships in the night (Explicit)
As it turns out, the journey to falling in love is a long one.
between you and me, the universe slips by (Explicit)
Kaveh is tasked with securing the funding for Kshahrewar from the Acting Grand Sage. Things get complicated.
mortise & tenon (Explicit)
A month ago, Kaveh appeared, disrupting Alhaitham’s quiet life and became his roommate. In less than a week, Kaveh left the house in anger. When he returned, it was the night of Alhaitham’s birthday. A year later, Alhaitham will celebrate his birthday again. This is a story that takes place within the span of a year and a few months. A story where Kaveh finds a grandmother’s unfinished wish, completes it for her grandson, and finds love again.
forbidden fruits of knowledge (Explicit)
Beautiful, he wants to say, the word saccharine on the tip of his tongue. His initial assumptions are false—no marble pillar can shiver as beautifully as this miracle of flesh and muscles and tendons, wonderfully reactive. Kaveh wants to take him apart, unravel the threads of his relentless rationality until nothing remains of him but this humanity, all this softness that does not quite fit right with the rest of him.
Kaveh bites the inside of his cheek, his head full of images of all the possible positions a man can lie with another. It’s unsettling how vividly he can recall the pleasure of something he’s never done.
he talks the talk alright (Explicit)
He really should have known better than to use a suspicious knowledge capsule. Much less one called The Arts of Men: Advanced Techniques Vol. 1. What was he thinking?
Tumblr media
Alhaitham tinkers with a pair of Akasha terminals. While Kaveh is away in the desert for a project, they use the devices to indulge a little.
discordant intervals (Mature)
the art of drowning (Explicit)
Dottore sulks during a celebratory banquet. In his enduring generosity, Pantalone offers him something to complain about—the threat of a good time.
Tumblr media
After a gruesome mission, Dottore knows just what Pantalone needs. It goes without saying that relaxing is hardly the right word to describe the events that transpire.

Hello! Can i request cyno x male!reader :)
Reader need something from dragonspine, so he agreed with aether to go with him, but cyno got a bit jealous, so he goes with reader too :D
We all know cyno's outfit🥶, reader asks cyno about the cold, but cyno tells him it's ok(it's not), so reader hugs him, cyno gets so flustered ;)
All I can see is just really pouty Cyno as he trudges through the snow behind you basically attached to you while traveller is just tryna talk haha. I actually really liked the idea considering the change in scenery and overall just feel of Dragonspine compared to the desert and how he just wouldn't know how to act properly with not being accustomed to the mountain. I just noticed this would be my first fluffy story on this account and I actually quite like covering a different thing to usual! I don't write for male readers that much but I will try! If I make any mistakes with pronouns (story will be using He/him but will be first person) please inform me so I can adjust it. ❄️Snowflake❄️ ❄️Warnings: I don't think there are many warnings as it's overall just fluff with some jealousy. Not really a warning at all but established relationship! ❄️Not proof read ❄️Word count:886 ❄️For the traveller I'm using Aether! ❄️Reader will have a pyro vision for only the most important reason, lighting the damn campfires. Will also be catalyst. (One time I almost froze because my Diluc just wouldn't light the fire and kept swinging at nothing and I'm still very annoyed about that) ❄️ ❄️ ❄️ Grumbles escaped from your lover that trailed beside you, glaring at the traveller that happily talked to you as you began to scale the mountain. You knew that Aether knew Dragonspine best of the people you were friends with in Sumeru, taking the chance to request for him to go with you to look for something that had piqued your interest. Aether accepted happily, seeing it as a chance to both hangout with you and see Albedo again if he was working at the lab. The Adventure was sure to be long and hold it's struggles, but with Aether is felt a lot easier than you're usual adventures. Cyno had demanded to tag along with you both, thinking he just wanted to see the snow which never was found in Sumeru with the harsh temperatures on a regular basis. As you reached the frost covered ground, the cold quickly hit you, nipping at your exposed cheeks and nose. You listed your hands to your face as you continued the stroll, snow clinging to the material of your thick pants. The pre set camp came into view as you slowed a bit, drowsiness finally kicking in after the long hike. As Aether wandered ahead, informing of his plan to visit a friend your attention flicked over to Cyno who awkwardly shuffled in the dense snow. You only now noticed him still in his usual attire, chest fully exposed to the cool breeze. You had expected him to be wearing his cloak that he would always wear when venturing out of Sumeru, so you were somewhat surprised by the fact that he wasn't and that you somehow didn't notice earlier. "Cyno where's your cloak? It's cold up here you'll get sick." Worry was evident in your voice as you look towards him, his nose turning a shade of red from the low temperature. "I must of forgotten it before we left. I'll be fine it isn't that cold anyways." He gave a small shrug walking towards the camp once again. It was clear that the cold was getting to him despite his denial, walking close behind him to follow him towards the tent. He stopped in front of a small tent, looking towards the frost covered trees in slight wonder, not seeing snow in what felt like forever. You hurried towards him, wrapping your arms around him as you leaned into him. You tilted your head back, looking at his flustered face as he avoided eye contact with you. "what are you doing?" His voice came out in a hushed whisper, one hand raising to cover the lower half of his face while the other rested around your waist. "keeping you warm of course" "But i'm not cold" "just accept the hug then" He slowly melted into your touch, wrapping both his arms around you as he leant against your shoulder.  The both of you stayed in place for a few moments before you felt him shiver slightly, proving further his denial. You pulled back heading towards the campfire, taking out your catalyst and quickly lit the fire. Walking back towards Cyno, you began to tug on his arm to pull him towards the fire to sit on the log. You once again pulled him into an embrace, leaning against his chest allowing yourself to rest. Cyno's hand came to rest on your head, stroking your hair as he let you pull him closer. He felt something fall on his arm, looking up to see snowflakes falling gracefully. His free hand lifted up, catching a lone one in his palm watching the crystallised snow melt against the warmth of his skin. He looked down at you with a gentle smile, feeling your body slowly rise and fall. Your soft snores reached his ears as he pulled your cloak tighter around you, making sure to keep you warm as more snowflakes fell around you both. He leant against you , resting his head on your own as he let his eyes closed, keeping your body close to his. Aether walked back to the campsite with Paimon by his side, speaking to her hearts content as they scaled the steep slope on the mountain. The sound of fire crackling caught his ears as his eyes became level with the tents, seeing the both of you resting on the log by the still lit fire. He turned to Paimon, motioning her to keep her voice down as he pointed at you both who went unnoticed by Paimon at first. The two Sat on the opposite log, taking out a sunsettia each waiting for you one of you to wake up. Aether noticed Cyno shift as he tilted his head towards the pair, raising an eyebrow not realising when they had returned.  He noticed their looks towards you, a mix of confusion and slight worry visible to him. "He's sleeping, he was tired from the walk. You guys can look for what we came for tomorrow." Aether gave him a nod as he gave Paimon a look, standing and walking towards their tent giving Cyno a small goodnight before closing the door behind them. His attention returned to you as he placed a soft kiss on your forehead, staying in place to allow you to sleep further as he allowed his eyes to wander towards the unfamiliar scenery. "I love you y/n." ❄️❄️ I wasn't sure what to do for certain parts so I wrote what came to mind. ❄️This is one of three requests so far! The next 2 will be written and published over the next 1-5 days.

dazed.
- more yandere tighnari.
Tumblr media
characters: tighnari x reader a/n: technically a part two to this, but it's not a storyline per se. I'd also like to clarify that this is not intended to romanticize relationships like these, I don't condone this kind of behaviour. warnings: drugging, manipulation, emotional abuse(?)
Tumblr media
You got lucky. You really did.
You’re not the only one who thinks so; the elderly in the village observe how you and Tighnari look at each other, and with a fond smile, they tell you to hold onto it; because Tighnari is one of the few diamonds in the rough. On your many trips to Pardis Dhyai with him, you notice how some of the researchers he works with look at you with envy; some are bold enough to try their luck, shameless enough to do it in front of you, even. But they’re all sent away by the man in question; Tighnari. Your lover.
You’re so lucky. So lucky that your past attempts at pining, while slightly embarrassing, make for fond memories; not regret, not humiliation. So lucky that the confusion and heartbreak you went through before fades into the background; a fuzzy part of your memories, blurred, a rose tinted daze, just like the tea Tighnari sometimes serves you when your mind won’t let you rest.
“Here - it’ll melt away your worries for now, we can deal with them later.”
It's a figure of speech, you know that; but sometimes you swear that there’s more to it.
The tea is unique; It has a strong calming effect, and Tighnari only serves it when you start to get riled up or nervous, though he insists that most of the effects are placebo. A part of you doesn’t believe him. But, he knows better, after all; and arguing with him is never worth it. A pit forms in your stomach at the thought. It’s an unsettling feeling, more of an instinct, like a fight or flight response, and you can’t figure out why it’s there. You and Tighnari don’t fight. You really don’t. There’s no yelling, no arguing. You listen to each other, and talk it out over a cup of tea.
It’s sweet, the tea, but not too much so; there’s also a bitter hint to it. So faint you can barely make it out, and thus you only mention it once. Collei gives you an odd look when you do, sipping from her own cup, before claiming that she doesn’t pick up on it. Against your better judgement, you chalk it up to odd taste buds, and don’t mention it again. You don’t want to make it seem like you’re complaining, after all.
You’re lucky that Tighnari is so caring; so patient with you. When you doubt your relationship, worry that he’ll leave you. When the confusion sets in; memories of events and people that weren’t there previously plaguing your mind, like withering zones that appear in the forest overnight, poisoning your perception of everything. Tighnari calls them delusions, a side effect of the illness you had once.
“They’ll be gone soon, don’t worry” he says, concern within his soft voice, as you sob into his chest. His arms wrap around you, and you feel a buzz from him as he hums a melody to calm you down.
“Just a pesky side effect; try to ignore it”
You try, hoping, praying that this confusion will leave your brain soon. For your sake, for Tighnari’s sake, and for your friends’; you don’t miss the concern written all over Collei’s face, or the frown on Cyno’s, whenever they visit. So you do as Tighnari says; you take the medicine he makes for you. You let him monitor your meals, ensuring that you’re eating enough, that you’re drinking enough, that you’re sleeping enough. It feels patronizing, in a way, especially when he talks to you in that condescending voice of his. But he’s quick to switch; to apologize for treating you like a rookie forest ranger, and remind you that he’s just doing this for your health.
“Don’t feel embarrassed, love, you just need extra care right now.”
You hold your tongue. The pit in your stomach is back - muddy memories making their way to the forefront of your mind, some odd sense of deja-vu. You faintly recall the sharp intake of air; the way Tighnari’s eyes narrowed in anger, his body tense. You can’t remember what you said - what you did wrong. But you remember his words; the thinly veiled threat that slipped past his lips in a whisper, as he held you in his arms, too tight for comfort, like thorny vines creeping up behind you. “No matter where you go, I’ll always find you. The forest is your home; I’m your home. You’re not leaving. Ever.”
Promises, promises you never asked for. Promises that made you shudder, shook you to the very core, chilled you to the bone. Promises you wouldn’t remember for long. Promises that would eventually fade from your memory again, along with the thorny vines around your ankles.
It’s blurry. Oh, so blurry. Your brain won’t let you recall it properly - the anger, the yelling, how possessive Tighnari can get.
No, he won’t let you recall them properly. The delusions, as he calls them. They’re better off forgotten. He’ll smile, and offer you a cup of tea with a “Oh, is that still bothering you, love? Let’s talk - maybe the tea will melt away your worries for a while, hm?”
And it does; the tea relaxes you, making you forget what you wanted to talk about in the first place. Your brain feels like mush; a warm feeling spreads through your body, and a smile breaks out on your face, which Tighnari mirrors. You feel sleepy, giggly even, as sweet whispers and gentle kisses surround you.
You’re lucky, back in the daze - and maybe, it’s for the better. The ignorance turns the pain from the thorns into bliss.

carpe diem [series] pt. ii
when it came to your friend, you had little regard for anything, even yourself. what happened to abattouy should never have occurred, and you were determined to prove why.
cyno x gn!reader
rating: t
wc: 10k+
a/n:  this is nothing new! i just decided to split up this piece into smaller more friendly parts for tumblr. it's still up as a full installment
[still available to read on ao3]
if the akademiya taught you one thing, it was that if information was not readily available to you, then it was your duty to go out and discover it. this creed was the heart of all expeditions towards the furtherment of acquiring knowledge.
there was a time that you'd hoped to use this guidance to eventually make your way to the foreign lands of snezhnaya but fate had another way of taking hold of your future.
for now, you would accept the resources that you had available at hand as you stood comfortable at the root of gandharva village.
through your inventions alone, you were a rather comfortable occurrence at the forest ranger headquarters. due to lacking a vision, both tighnari and cyno were reluctant when it came to acquiring your own research. most of your data and analysis came through the fox and any of the rangers he roped into the experiment.
your other reason for returning to the village, came in the form of the timid but gradually blossoming trainee.
it had been years, but sometimes it still felt like yesterday when cyno returned leading the frail girl back home. the two of you were nowhere near where you were now, but as a trio with tighnari, you each played a part in helping her reacclimate back into sumeru.
a smile curled at your lips at the memory of collei clinging to cyno even weeks after returning. the man had come to you on multiple occasions lost and harboring a shadow additional to his own. you suppose in a way, collei played a part in the progression of your relationship.
the two of you were close by academic aquantainship, strengthened by tighnari's sole tolerance in the two of you, but outings and dinners shared to cement the girl's comfort in her securer future had been the finalizing thread.
cyno had stolen you from your studies just as a secondary excuse to travel to gandarvale village, hand gripped tight with yours whenever tighnari wizened to his presence.
everything else just came together, natural and right.
a flash of green was all the warning you got before your body tensed in preparation, the additional weight briefly set you off kilter before your arms came around the girl. the smile staring up at you was infectious as those bright purple eyes danced with excitement.
“i was wondering when you would come to visit again! my sumeru rose bloomed, you have to come see it.”
despite her aversion to touch, collei was more than comfortable leading you confidently through the village bustle up to the bungalow she called home. you managed to interact with a few familiar faces along the way, limited to short greetings with as quickly as you reached your destination.
“see!”
collei was nothing but proud as she presented the purple flower which stood tall under the tutelage and care she provided. as not only her pseudo guardian but mentor, collei did not stand idly under tighnari's supervision. her interest in flora and its medicinal properties bled from the fox's teaching into her own drive and motivation.
everyone was rather transparent about not teasing her too much when it came to her dedication. tighnari bore most of the weight as you had no qualifications of hanging his protege's progression over his head. rather than bending to the jest, the fox only took it seriously confidant that he could best anything the akademiya could teach. though you doubted the girl had any aspirations of enrolling after growing up in tighnari's view of the institution.
the girl preened under the press of your palm as it smoothed the crown of her head,” that's amazing, collei. you didn't miss a step. i hope tighnari was just as impressed.” your congratulatory tone edged towards the tune of a threat as you recalled his stern form of instruction.
it was fortunate the girl had such hardened resolve but it still took some physical encouragement to remind the fox that even the smallest achievements warranted praise. a smile curled at your lips at the thought. you took pleasure in being one of the few things the fox feared.
the headquarters was a tight knit collaboration, so it was no surprise to hear the man in question responding to his name.
“yes, i made sure that the accomplishment did not go unnoticed.”
tighnari's smile was easy but the flicker of his ears told another story. collei, poor girl always ready to defend, seconded it.
“yes! he even gave me some padisarah seeds to grow next. the terrarium helps keep them fresh out of season.”
you frowned at the challenge. padaisarahs had a difficult time alone surviving in the wild. nevertheless, the girl seemed undeterred.
collei had been very impressed with the terrarium you'd built for tighnari, never missing the chance to compliment the invention. despite knowing the answer, she'd timidly asked if you'd be willing to build her one in the future. while you had no qualms with doing it within the next few weeks if your schedule allowed, tighnari had been more strict explaining that she needed more studies before being trusted with such an invention.
despite the urge to oversee him just to spoil the girl, you could see where he came from. the terrarium was meant to cultivate the plants independently so that tighnari could focus his attention more in the forest. it took care of the crucial elements needed to nurture plants that collei still needed to learn.
but that didn't mean she couldn't have it and still be educated.
“speaking of the terrarium, since you're here. do you mind tweaking it a bit? i need to increase the temperature threshold to mimic the desert better.”
well, there goes a cashable favor without putting yourself in debt.
giving collei one last pat, you turned down the familiar path to tighnari's abode.
"of course. if you're free, i actually need a favor as well.”
tighnari hummed, already curious,” and what can i do for you?”
you waited until the privacy of tighnari's entrance leaves closed behind the two of you. using the opportunity of a distraction, you crouched in front of the device already knowing what controls to manipulate to get what was needed.
“i need an escort into the avidiya.”
tighnari's suspicion is palpable behind your back, “what for?”
“i want to see one of the dormant machines.” sticking your head into the base of the device, your voice echoed out. “i was recently given additional access to records on them and wanted to compile some field notes as well.”
tighanari was quiet for a moment, though you don't dare to look back. the task was complete yet your hands still move idly, checking over other features.
the fox was no doubt outweighing the pros and cons of just acquiring the data himself like most of what he shared with you. as of late, there the influx of reports about the forest never seemed to cease.
“a few have been reacting to the spilling fissures from the ley lines. at times it can be like walking along land mines … it's not very safe.”
you had suspected as much. abattouy had managed to make it that far in his research. he had made note of how inventors in the past had used the ley lines as a sort of spiritual medium to power the machines. it made sense that the power of celestial could bring life to inanimate creatures.
history lessons filled in the gaps from there. from the archons wars to the fall of khaenri'ah, any outlet of power was used towards domination and the creation of visions. no one had bothered to remember the forgotten guardians that remained impassive still protecting the lands that gave them home.
it was obvious that sumeru had enough issue with corrupted ley lines wreaking havoc. the last thing they wanted was to encourage curious minds to discover new ways to taint that power. but surely if they just allowed more time an alternative answer could have been found … with the proper resources abattouy could have made a difference. of that much you were certain.
unable to deliberate much longer, you eventually turned to observe tighnari's pensive gaze. fortunately, he was trained elsewhere as his hand curled against his chin.
“i happen to know of one stationed not too far from the village. we roam the area enough where it runs the lowest risk of coming into contact with the withering zones. if we
are quick, i can take you before i need to return for my own patrol.”
a relieved breath warmed your cheeks, “that would be great, thank you tighnari.”
“of course, let us start then.”
tighari spared a brief moment to rearrange a few items in the terrarium before closing the display. he expressed his gratitude with a quiet thanks before he was off.
the fox led the way, but you remained in close step. tighnari didn't have much to say and you were comfortable enough in the recesses of your mind to not be bothered by the lack of conversation. your thoughts kept returning to the notebook and the array of blueprints you'd sketched throughout the week.
abattouy hadn't let the fear of the withering zones keep him from researching the ruin guards. you wondered how often he came in contact with those awakened and more importantly how he escaped. you never recalled tighnari specifically calling him out when he recalled the tales of stupidity he dealt with throughout the days.
in wake of the expulsion and disappearance, he hardly spoke of him at all.
“how's cyno?”
you gaze slowly refocused as your mind caught up with the distance you'd already traveled in your stupor. the village was lost in the trees now.
“you know … working, as usual.”
you'd long lost any ire over the lull in his presence. it was just the consequence of his job and you wouldn't fault him for it given it was something he took pride in. the two of you managed to make it work where it mattered.
“hm, well at least you can say you got out of the shop.”
and there was that … without him here, you were prone to spending more hours working than you should. it was a fault you both could work on, though circumstances hardly favored the practice.
“yeah, there's that.”
the pair remained silent again as they followed the lush vegetation down the sloped path. the noon sun hung high but the trees were dense enough to shade their walk, cooling the air around them. it made sense how tighnari was able to stay comfortably down here, soaking in the cool moisture that hung in the air.
tighnari cleared his throat, breaking the stillness. “it's right over there.”
you followed the line of his arm, easily locating the dormant machine nestled against the cliff side. it appeared to be imprisoned by the overgrowth of vines, tangling its limbs and growing between the joints. tighnari was right, it didn't look like it had moved for ages.
“I'll take you closer but please be mindful.”
he continued to lead you down off the stout edge, hands carefully guiding as you slide the rest of the way down. tighnari didn't stop you as you approached the ancient structure, so you snapped up the loose leash while you could.
in classes, instructors would briefly brush over their existence. offered old photos similar to the reality you were standing in now. but they never delved further than that, withholding any information that gave any life to the idea of them.
but this was the first time you'd seen one up close. the time-worn metal under your fingertips felt like it still held every bit of its integrity despite resting listlessly for so long. you doubted tighnari would let you linger.
you carefully flitted around the slumbering machine, not quite sure what you were looking for but hoping for a revelation all the same. there was no indication that the thing had been disturbed, by internal or external forces. not even the path to it seemed worn.
it would have been too much to ask for evidence of a camp or even forgotten notes. tighnari had already told you that it was patrolled often, so anything of value would have already been reported. what you needed was to find the ones not disclosed, hidden alcoves where a ruin and possibly a human could hide out. but that wasn't a place you would be able to wander across easily.
when tighnari made an exaggerated shuffling sound behind, you knew your time was up.
“tighnari … how do you feel about mechanical life?”
he breathed out a nasally sigh as he shook his head. the soft considering smile that graced his lips let you know that you weren't challenging anything.
“I was wondering when you would ask.” he nodded his head back towards the path, eager to start the return trip. as you filed in next to him, he spoke. “I believe all things deserve a chance at life. it's those who wished to study it that i have my qualms with. simply existing is a sacred thing that shouldn't be manipulated.”
his steps bring him closer, and you look up to find his offered hand.
he pulls you up with little effort. “it left a bitter taste in my mouth thinking of how mechanical life would be controlled and hindered by such simplistic lives. they're inherently restricted to their creators are they not.”
that was true. from what you'd read thus far, while they were about to 'adapt' it was impossible to do so without influence and instruction. mechanical life would never be able to reproduce on their own or properly source themselves without intervention. it meant that they would never get to decide their purpose, left to just fulfill it or be destroyed.
“doesn't it make you a little sad?”
tighnari looks back towards the machine.
“humans and animals alike live and die once their purpose has extinguished. yet these things, they lay waste for centuries just waiting for their next order. it's hard to want to support giving life to such things, you know?”
you did. but you also understood that like most tools, in the right hands both sides could benefit. but this wasn't a topic you were willing to have allowed just yet.
“thank you tighnari for bringing me here.”
the fox hums as he considers you. he was an intellectual being, no doubt being about to remain resourceful and well knowledged even after leaving the akademiya, you were sure he had his suspicions and concerns, but he also respected your boundaries and trusted your decision making.
shaking his head with a sight that spanned long years of friendship.
“anything for you.”
the pat on your back is dual purpose, as it urges you forward.
“now, let's hurry i may have some time before i depart. i don't know about you but im starving. i grew some new mushrooms in the terrarium that i want to try.”
you made a face as you recalled the headache tighnari put you through as you tweaked the machine to his liking. all to protect the future of forestry medicine. “i thought you planned to use that for actual research?”
tighari's nose twitched at your accusation, “i'll take that response as you're not hungry.”
it becomes a little too easy for you to slip back into old habits of long nights in the shop over the next few days. cyno had sent word that he was on another investigation, meaning that the hunt could span well into the week depending on how obstinate his target was.
for a man who was determined to prove himself amicable, he never failed to live up to the fearsome legends surrounding his character. part of you almost felt sorry for the poor soul who suffers the dichotomy of addressing their crimes and your lover's attempt of a joke.
laughing at the memory of one, your shoulders sag at the place in your prior train of thought. since your last walk-in customer just after lunchtime, you'd been pouring over the mess of notes.
you hadn't let yourself linger too long on the lack of clues surrounding the slumbering machine. while thumbing further through the notebook, you began noticing certain text that reminded you of another's observations. after some light digging, you uncovered some of the log books from tighnari's investigations of withering zones.
both texts highlighted the effects of the ley lines zones, but whereas tighnari focused on its destruction, abbattouy had discovered a hidden attribute; a power source. though, perhaps 'forbidden' was a better term. this was likely the first strike used as evidence against him.
sumeru didn't need the jurisdiction of the akademiya to keep people from tamping too closely with ley lines. too much exposure would take a life before the research could be completed if one wasn't careful enough.
but abbatouy was smart, surely he'd figured out how to withstand the element long enough to conduct his experiments. it was a little worrying how little he seemed to account for his own ailments in his notes.
both scholars likened the absence of wildlife to exposed ley line fissures as a key indicators but where tighnari further delved into decay and miasma, abattouy spoke about the thrum of power and waking essence.
'the heartbeat of a god.' he called it.
while you weren't too confident about your knowledge on irminsul.
it was a starting point.
gaze flickering out the window, you noted how the sun was still hanging comfortably in the sky. it wouldn't hurt to make a few observations of your own. there was no chance of a discovery but becoming more familiar with the forest would help you narrow down your search.
tighnari assured you that the man had not made a home in the forest. but that didn't mean he didn't frequent it.
all you needed was a sign.
you didn't venture out unarmed, the echoing voice of a tighnari beating you lingering with every questionable action. as it was, the world was filled with less vision-holders than those who were blessed by the gods. as a child, you'd felt slighted from being overlooked but as you got over you came to learn that everyone had a designation.
those who had the gift did their part, and the rest of you moved along just well.
being acquainted with tighnari's experimentation with his vision in your early days of education were more fruitful than just a regular headache. while exploring the scholarly uses, he had also made it a point to bolster your defences. being with cyno only doubled down on the lessons of importance.
if not for the purpose of taking on the world, to at least give you a fighting chance against stray mercenaries.
capsules of knowledge also went a long way with strengthening your approach. you weren't a master of the art, but in the event of a sticky situation your odds were higher than without.
equipped with that resolve, you headed down the narrow path of the main merchant roads. from your frequent trips to gandharva village, you had a jist of what roads were meant to be avoided. it had taken some time, but eventually you felt confident navigating towards your destination. at least when you were on the correct path. you'd always known the dangers of veering. tighnari's guidance a few days prior had also played a part in highlighting the features most rangers instruct visiting parties to avoid.
unfortunately, you'd be using sad information against its desired use.
so where they advised those to go left, you angled right, making careful progress through the trampled brambles and strewn vines. while you descended further into the forest, you watched the sky while noting the sun's position between the treetops. starting later in the afternoon helped you avoid the worst of the high noon temperature, but it also ate up your flexibility with time.
this trip was meant to help you get a starting point, practice the evasion of vigilant rangers while preparing yourself for the brunt of the wild. taking a deep breath, you steadied your nerves and tried to enjoy the cooler evening air. while you preferred the port, you could see how tighnari found himself at home here. it was similar to the way cyno made his mark in the desert.
eventually, your pace slowed as the path blurred in terms of familiarity. the only given you knew was up meant out. there was hardly a path at this point, well off course from any guidance post. the only favorable thing was the lack of withering activity.
but still your body felt free of any bearing weight representative of ley line presence, so you carried on.
your fingers danced along the width of your blade as the occasional oburt of wildlife crackled around. rishboldand tigers preferred the trees, but rarely attacked outright without prompting. avoiding lingering under any trees helped ease that. the spinoroks favored the rivers and banks, but fortunately it had been some time since you'd last heard running water. and well dusk birds, it might have been a bit of comfort running across them.
to be frank, it had been quiet awhile since you've noticed any form of fauna. the last time you'd clutched the hilt of your weapon was when you'd spotted some fungi in the distance. had you wandered too far? or were you closer than you expected?
it became apparent, that despite your reading about visual cues, you had not learned much about what exactly coming in contact with ley lines felt like. the wrong amount of exposure could lead to sickness, but most victims hardly recalled being affected until it was too late.
while you enjoyed the accessibility of the akasha, its limitations became glaringly apparent outside of the city. what could have been a quick query would have to wait.
maybe it was just time for you to head back. the sun was hardly visible now but the darkening orange tone was warning enough.
you had been frivolous with your turns, but backtracking shouldn't be impossible. up, you reminded yourself. as long as you reached the top, the flat meadows above would spell out the rest. confident in your assumption, you turned around and headed back.
the feeling held on for a while as you ventured through the forest. some things were familiar, though trees were suspicious contenders. the only comforting thing was the soft click of crickets and lizards slithering at your feet, but even those weren't enough to deter you from the fading light.
you hasten your pace, uncaring of the noise it made as you stepped loudly through the brush.
up, as long as the direction was up you were good.
just up—
it was a chance glance, a brief scope of your surroundings, but it was enough to spot the familiar ridges and dark hues of the ruin slumped against the rock wall. you hadn't seen it on your way down, meaning you were advancing up an alternative path.
for the first time, you cursed your impulsive turns knowing it would take considerable more effort to return to the same spot again. biting your lip, you chanced a look at the treetops knowing what you saw wasn't promising and yet, this was a fleeting chance.
it appeared to be one of the cyclops models, paired with wings for flight. the mechanical ingenious behind designing something of the mass with the capability of flight was an impressive feat in itself.
just a look.
it was a different guard than the one you saw with tighnari, but intimidating all the same. you just need to make a quick check around the area, scour for any signs of disturbance since the machine began its slumber.
unlike the last one, this ruin was free from the tangle of vines and foliage. almost as if it had just been lain to rest yesterday. you wondered if that meant it had in fact been distrubed, by curious hands and minds. there was no evidence of encampment but surely someone had distrubed its resting place.
frowning as you crouched, you fingertips brushed against the grass folded under its weight. what should have been dead and weathered felt plush and smothered. but that couldn't be right.
hidden in the depths came the sound of power whirling to life.
your blood turned to ice water as looked up to see the once dull optic blinking into existence. with a shout of surprise you fell back onto your rear before wrapping around to scramble to your feet.
an active ruin.
any floating notes were flung to the recesses of your mind as you favored survival. the machine was slow as it woke up, gears clicking under its weight. you only had a few moments before it gained its wings. you bolded, heading back towards the trees for coverage.
but its safety was no longer a promise as a bolt of power cut through the bark, narrowly missing you. the rumble of cracking wood forced your body into a roll as you darted to the next, barely clearing the distance before another beam shattered it.
your arms came up to protect yourself from the destruction, flesh exposed to the explosion of wood as it cut into your body. you sucked in a harsh breath as the searing heat spanned the width of your arm, but did not spare a moment to check.
the weapon against your thigh felt like a comical reminder as you slide into the next wall of coverage. a mercenary you could cut, but what was the possibility against a ruin?
for one, you wouldn't settle for death.
you threw your leg to the side, rolling out of the way over another blast. your nails dug into earth scrambling for purchase as you hastily found your feet. you could sob at the slight but noticeable incline as you discovered the path up.
there wasn't enough research on ruin's optic strength, but you doubted yours was any better. the darkening sky would be more favorable to it. the sound of it powering up came again, and you forced yourself to sprint up the incline to the next temporary safety.
it was still a journey up, but distance would have to be your defence. it could fly, but there had to be limitations. even as it hovered, it didn't appear to be able to get but a few feet off the ground. height would have to be your advantage.
arms coming around your head, you braced for another blast. the skin around your wound protested against the movement, but you held your breath through the pang of pain. the moment the light from its attack ended, you took off again, clawing your way up the path.
it seemed that your theory was favorable, though you are still forced to roll away from the edge as another blast shot up towards you. the dense foliage covering the treetops obscured whatever vision it had, the stray beam of power that came next well off course.
still you didn't pause your pace until the treelines thinned and the forest bled away. the adrenaline gave out just as sun dipping into the hilled plains of ardavi valley came into view, your body finally giving out under the pressure as you fell to your hands and knees. you pressed your scraped palms against your face, the salt from your exasperated yet relieved tears burning the cuts.
you'd survived.
it was well into the night when you'd managed to stumble home. you were sure you were quite the sight to any of your straggling neighbors. you tried to be polite, but kept conversation to a minimum, wanting to keep much of this excursion from getting back to cyno.
during the walk home, you tugged the leaves and foliage free from your clothing and hair before fussing over the weeping wound. it wasn't deep enough to warrant stitches but it would hurt for a bit. after you patched it up you could come up with a plausible story for cyno.
for now, you just wanted to clean up and settle your nerves with a cup of tea.
name had yowled at your feet as you stumbled through the door, no doubt protesting his late dinner. you tried to place him as you steered towards the bathroom, stripping the dirt ridden clothes as you went.
the spray of water felt good as it washed away the grim, puddling murky suds at your feet. before the water cut off, you made sure to run your arm under the water to prep it for treatment.
clothed in the towel, you lowered yourself to the ground unable to ignore the burning against your arm. rummaging through the cabinets, you dragged the aid kit to your feet. it had been awhile since it made an appearance. as you got older, your shop mishaps began less frequently aside from the occasional hammered finger or contact burn.
you'd shut the door to the bathroom in order to work inhibited, so the angry meows from name were expectant. out of consideration, you had not lingered in the shower and attempted to patch yourself up just as quickly.
“give me a second, ali. i promise to give you an extra helping.”
what you weren't expecting was a reply.
“so it is you who is sneaking him treats?”
your body jolted at the sound, the action jarring your wound as you hoisted with a sharp cry. the sound was the least reassuring thing you could offer as you scrabbled against the edge of the tub to come to a stand.
cyno was quiet on the other as he tested the knob,”i'd like to come in, if that's okay?”
his voice was patient but the curl of concern wasn't something you could ignore. with a sigh you look around at the mess of supplies you'd accumulated, at this point there was no point in hiding out.
“yeah.”
the door eased open carefully, consider your proximity. for what it was worth, cyno managed to remain relatively calm as he crouched before you.
his touch is attempted as he prods the area around the wound, no doubt thinking the worst. “how did this happen?”
the lie slips all too easily through your lips. “got careless leaning against the table. too many nearby tools.”
cyno's brow furrows as he inspects the wound but seems to accept the reasoning. there wasn't a trail of deception in your past for him to rummage through leaving him with only face value to determine.
still it doesn't help to remove the frown marrowing his lips as he works the bandage around the wound. he's more practiced in the art, keeping it firm but comfortable enough for flexion. though from the sharp pain you hiss through upon trying the flexibility, you doubt you'll be utilizing full range of motion much.
when you decide to go for a kiss of gratitude, he presses one light against his work instead.
“it's been a long time since i've seen you hurt.”
you go to shrug, buy find yourself regretting it just as quickly. “just got a little careless. i'll be more mindful.””
“hm. thank you for trying.”
he holds out a hand and you reach for it … or so you think. the vision of the offer is suddenly split in two and you can tell you've chosen wrong when you stumble forward. cyno quickly gathers you in his arms before you can fall further, the level of concern spiking in his voice.
“I'll handle dinner tonight. you've been on your feet for too long.”
the urge to protest dies on your lip as your world momentarily spins with a lurch from your stomach.
perhaps a nap wouldn't be too bad.
cyno made it a point to be at home more after the incident it was a welcome addition peppered with gratuitous opportunities to spoil you. he'd personally posted a note against your workshop door to alert any customers of your absence during your rest. he spent his time between reporting to the akademiya cooking meals and showering you with attention.
ali took the most advantage, always present to curl into his lap.
for a few days, you were able to forget what even had you bed ridden. the short bout of imbalance had not occurred since the time in the bathroom, though you did experience brief nausea at dinner. you accounted it all to the lingering effects of adrenaline from that night.
“i told you i would cook today.”
the matra were surely fearing a prophesied end with the amount of sick days cyno was taking to remain home with you. he tended to linger in the shadows when he wasn't needed, but the pressure of his presence wasn't an easy thing to ignore.
that was quite alright with you, it was quite a pleasant feeling him against you.
“you and ali looked so comfortable in your nap, i couldn't do it to him,” you explained, glancing over your shoulder before quickly turning your attention back to the pot to suppress a grin. clothed in a loose shirt, stretched from sleep, he was an adorable sight with his mused hair and lazy limbs.
cyno sighed and pulled out a chair from the table. the sound he made as he audibly sagged into the seat meant he hadn't woke up on his own accord. you wonder if it had been the clatter of pans or the aroma wafting from them.
either way, you couldn't suppress the tinge of guilt. despite being more at home, he hadn't stopped moving. finding him slouched with ali had been a welcomed shock.
you prepared a kettle for tea, knowing he wouldn't enjoy the dredges of sleep clinging to him. though he would write it off as laziness, the way his body fought for just a few minutes of rest spoke louder. you nudged a warm brew into his palm.
“it's been awhile since you've been to the forest. or anywhere not work related really.” encouraging the general to take a vacation was a dull blade, but you knew he lingered in the desert whenever a case pulled him that far. it was a small victory to cling to.
“I've been investigating something. it's taking up more of my time.”
typically the discussion of expelling students wasn't a cheerful conversation to have, but there were few things else to glean from his workday beside the few jokes he tested on you. it wasn't as if you didn't want to talk about it, sometimes you just wished the two of you had other things to discuss besides students and projects.
“have you considered…maybe taking a break after this assignment?”
cyno set aside his cup of tea, eyes shinning with low simmering mirth, “kettle … pot?”
you rolled your eyes. perhaps you both had an issue with overworking yourselves, but at least you had gandharva village in your arsenal. cyno just relied on his patrols and reports in lieu of ongoing cases.
but there was no denying neither of you had broken routine in quite sometime. maybe after all of this was over, you could change that. cyno had told you he'd like to take you to the desert one day.
reaching out, you curled your fingers into the tuff of hair that always hung over his ears. cyno leaned into the touch, crown pressed against your palm as you smoothed back the braids. “maybe save some of those vacation days…?” you probed hesitantly.
cyno pursed his lips and then reached beside you for his cup and lifted it to his lips for a sip. ''I'll consider it.”
though you didn't say anything, your face unintentionally twisted into something he couldn't ignore. his cup clinked against the table before he extended his arms and tugged you into his lap.
the action brought your faces closer and you couldn't help but shiver at the head between you. at this proximity, you could count every single one of his pale lashes. it was only natural for your eyes to flicker down to his mouth, always so inviting and nicely shaped in a way that you knew if you pressed yours against them, they'd be soft, warm and skillful.
it was cyno's turn for his hands to card through your hair, drifting back to your skull once before returning to hold your cheeks. '' there are still things i want to show you, i haven't forgotten. but i also don't want to be interrupted when that time comes,” he explained sincerely.
it was so honest it made your heart ache. to most it might sound like a stale promise, but you knew it meant he was trying.
unable to resist, you closed the distance for a brief peck,” alright, until then,” you concluded.
by then, things would be different. it would be a moment to celebrate.
in the end, cyno won out and took over the remainder of dinner preparation. unable to do anything but shake your head, you took his seat and polished off the rest of his tea.
with abattouy back in the shop, you at least knew you could decrease your workload. it would take considerable more effort to help cyno shave his down, but you trusted his management of the situation.
in the meantime, you would have to be satisfied with a home full of friends again.
the two of you had just finished dinner when cyno suddenly tensed in his seat. practiced in the relationship, you knew what was coming before he could start apologizing. before he could protest, you pressed a short kiss to his lips and began clearing the table.
duty called.
cyno returned from the bedroom toting his headpiece as you put aside the final dish to dry. his presence warms your back and his hand caresses the top of your head, smoothing down your hair. you nuzzle against his hand in return.
“I'll be home late, don't wait up.”
and thus you returned to a life of normalcy.
ali was an insist ball of fur until you cuddled him with a night time treat. it gave you the space needed to escape to the plush couch seated under the window. with cyno so close, you hadn't been able to properly review your notes, too concerned with the prospect of getting caught.
you still hadn't prepared your explanation in the event of that happening, too determined to address it with the shadow of abattouy at your side.
finally alone, you did put your akasha device to use. you'd promised cyno to take a few days off from the shop, leaving you with little else to occupy yourself as you probed the knowledge library.
it had been a good deal to make and your body certainly healed from the lack of stress. but it was time for you to get back to work.
you spent the remainder of the night before bed off curled by the window while browsing the reports from the bimarstan on recent ley line exposure cases.
headaches.
arrhythmia.
fever.
hallucinations.
these were all symptoms most frequented by the spantamad class in their pursuit to better understand irminsul.
you had no intentions of trying to communicate with the gods, but you weren't invincible if you remained set on this path. it would be imperative that you stayed on top of your health, prior injury aside. bandaging a wound was one thing. the last thing you wanted was to put cyno in the position of escorting you to the distant village in the desert.
you don't personally know anyone who had lost their mind to their studies but the impact swept through the akademiya regardless of how close you were to the subject.
some of the other classes feared that the spantamad's interference was only antagonizing the spirits and thus they suffered the consequences. you couldn't find it in yourself to fault anyone who would trade their own sanity for their beliefs.
the same could be said of the research of mechanical beings.
the akademiya believed they would lead to the destruction of life.
but that was only because they refused to accept any alternatives.
you groan aloud and a hand makes a familiar trip down your face. that would just be a road to look down once abattouy was safe and home.
for now, sleep was the only thing left to consider.
with a tired tsk you urged ali to follow you into the bedroom. it may be back to normal, but that didn't mean you didn't miss the additional warmth in bed.
tomorrow you would resume your research but tonight you would enjoy your last night of rest.
your body lurches forward with a surge of breath, chest heaving from the effort. lungs expand, stretching and reaching for oxygen but never seems to get enough. it doesn't help that it feels as though your bearing the weight of a building.
or a city … as the remnants of one crumble around you.
the light registers as flames as the flicker across your vision. but it's the smoke, its thick and cloying billows blanketing everything in its smog.
“cyno?!”
a cry sounds in the distance. multiple sounds of despair, calling for help, mercy and salvation. none, however, sound familiar, no one you can run to with certainty.
“... tighnari? collei?”
trepidation curls around as you take in the scene. the crackling of wood and tumble of rubble. it's difficult to make out, though it appears the branches feed into something larger, winding together towards the sky. it's the whirling of gears that draws your attention. you recognize the sound as the bean of power charges.
ruins.
you stumble to your feet, frantically grabbing at the first thing in reach. the tasks in conjunction seem too much for you as you stumble and fall back on your rear. nails dig into the withering vines as you drag yourself up a second time. in your right hand, a cut of stone sharp from its breakage cuts into your palm. solidifying it as a weapon, you ignore the cut of blood bleeding around it.
the ruin unleashes its attack in the distance, the beam of light lost in the chaos but the screams roar on. you're helpless to cries, barely able to withstand your own weight as you keep a firm grip on the woven roots.
it must have followed you, rounded up its fallen soldiers and set siege on the city.
it was your fault.
all your doing.
behind you another tree shudders, branches quaking as it falls to its death. in its wake, rises another ruin, broad and glowing as it marches forward.
you have to run. you need to will your frozen limbs. find cyno and run—
you're woken by the sound of a staggered chair and the taste of fear from the recesses of your mind. the strain from your healing wound pulls as you slide out of bed, dragger held tight against your palm.
it's cyno who stumbles into the bedroom moments later is the first to make a sound as his more honed instincts circle your wrist before you can strike.
the weapon tumbles from your palms without protest as realization drains away the fear, replacing it with shame. a shaky hand covers your mouth,” i thought you—”
what did you think?
the crackle of fire
a haunted laugh
your body stiffens as cyno's arms encircle you before you sag into his hold. above your head, he takes in your frazzled state, brow pinched in concern. he takes in your shaky hands, the erratic drum of fingers against your stiff thighs, and the low muttering under your breath of words he doubted you even recognized.
cyno had witnessed you distraught. he'd coaxed you down from frustration.
but this…
“it's alright, i didn't mean to spook you,” he hushes gently as his heart thumps, an uncertain staccato against his chest. ''you're okay.”
he feels your shuddered breath against the scratch of his neck, your arms squeezing tightly around his middle. “I don't know what happened, “ you whispered.
there was never a moment that you ever felt unsafe at home. even without his status as the mahamantra, cyno held a sense of prowess that never failed to fight off the worst of monsters. he was your protector. so what had grown so big that not even he seemed strong enough to keep you safe?
with the fingers at the flesh of your waist, cyno guides you towards the edge of the bed. he disgrauded his head piece prior to entering the bedroom, likely the source of the disturbance, but was still clothed from the day. though neither of you protested as he gathered you close in bed.
sumeru did not sleep.
but some monsters still prowled.
the occurrence of the night before go unsaid but not unnoticed. cyno's troubled gaze follows silently as you flow from one side of the kitchen to the next. he accepts the cup of tea and returns the gesture with the slide of his lips against your cheek.
work is what eventually ushers him out the door despite his desire to linger. he doesn't say it but he wants you to take an additional day off.
still a bit tattered from the restless sleep, you cant help but agree. the better part of the week had been spent cooped up as it was, without brief visits to the shop. fresh air would do you good, to see the city and its inhabitants.
a strange desire to witness the life of the city drives your body into action as you dress and head out the door. the sun was a hesitant welcome as it warmed your skin but the same light irritated your eyes. still you pushed on, hoping the familiar streets would shake off the foreign feelings clinging to your body.
people in the streets greeted you in passing, those more familiar coaxing you closer for a chat. for awhile it proved to be a comfortable distraction as you relaxed under the shade of a canopy conversing about the upcoming festival. the divide between gods very made sense to you given that all the inhabitants of the city had truly only served under one. greater ruk had indeed blessed the gift of wisdom but lesser lord kusanli kept it alive.
given the tragedy in liyue, people should be fortunate that you still had a god.
“its not properly sanctioned, but i believe you would enjoy it.” your fingers flexed under the comforting palms that held your hand. zoya was an old soul, refusing to be swayed by anyone's judgement. she was respectful towards both gods, but swore to use her days of life worshiping the remaining one.
she squeezed your hand with her weathered grip once more before pulling away, “maybe even bring the general.”
that brought a rush of laughter as you shook your head. as if that would happen. zoya grinned, expecting the same with a shrug.
you parted ways with a wave. there would be more of a chance of getting tighnari to humor the akademiya than to convince cyno to visit the festival. just the mention of 'unsanctioned' was warning enough.
“I'm terribly sorry, sir. it was an unexpected loss but i promise to have better inventory next week.”
you paused a stall over, inspecting the fresh harvest of fruits. shopping for perishables was always difficult when cyno was on long investigations, especially when selecting his favourites. it was always a gamble if they would end up being eaten in time.
“that's quite alright, it must be difficult traveling with the eremites lately.”
“no, it wasn't the mercenaries this time … it was this.. this machine. it just came out of no where.”
you stopped short, hand hovering over the selection of zaytun peaches.
“a machine?”
a flashback of the ruin hovering above you menacingly came to mind. had it continued to patrol after you'd made your escape?
“im pretty sure it was. looked like a crab of sorts.”
“sounds odd … sure you didn't get too close to those withering zone?”
you maintained the face of closely inspecting the collection while keeping a keen ear on the conversation. the pair wasn't all to concerned with their carrying voices.
“no, the caravan is pretty good about avoiding those.”
“huh well sorry for your losses. i'll check back next week.”
the merchant's shoulders slumped in defeat of another lost sale.
a crab-like ruin? it didn't sound like anything you'd encountered.
setting down the fruit, you thanked the farmer and crossed the street quickly. there were still valuable details to the story that you could glean. “hi, sorry to —”
the man didnt have the typical exuberant of an expectant merchant,“hello, i'm afraid i'll be closing early today. not much to sell.”
“i actually just have a question. i couldn't help but overhear about the crab ruin attacking the caravan.”
he waved off the inquiry, “it's probably nothing. it was late and we were too at ease with security.”
biting your lip, you switch angles hoping to ease past his guard, “possibly, but i have friends in the forest watch that like to patrol. i can give them a heads up.”
it was enough to give him pause as he considered the offer. the idea of having someone to clear the path for future travels was too good to pass up. “that would actually put our minds a bit at ease. here.”
merchant searches through his belongings and produces a map. its a weathered parchment, but heavily detailed with trade routes and known bandit locations. his points to the newest addition, a hastily drawn figure that must represent the mechanical being.
“it was odd. it only wanted mechanical parts but we lost some good merch in the scuffle.”
he surprises you by handing it over. grateful, you store it away in your satchel. “I'll look into this. sorry for your loss.”
looks like you wouldn't be completely free from business.
you cut your market trip short and cut through the port to your workshop. on the door, cyno's note still remains posted. technically, it was still your day off, so you left it in place.
upon reaching your desk, you unroll the map and use the nearby tools to hold down the corners. the merchants outlined their entire trip with a bold red line, noting the location of the incident with a solid 'x'.
it was no surprise that it had occurred in the forests, ruins were rarely found along the trails in the plains. it was too open and frequently travelled. without looking, you reached out for the notebook tucked away at the back of the drawer.
in one of the pages, abattouy had sketched his own map. a smaller more detailed scope of the forest. you thumbed front to back in search of the page, coming up short with each run through. the book was worn, but you were sure you would have noticed if a page had fallen out.
your forearm caught the back end of the book before it could flip shut, prepared to run through one last time when you felt your arm roll over a small but noticeable indent. perplexed, you twisted your limb too and from, confirming that it wasn't a fluke. however, when you lifted your arm, you were just met with the smooth surface.
or so it seemed.
curious, you finger toyed at the slit at the bottom, working back the frail lining until a fold of paper fell through. moving the book aside, you unfolded the document to find a few sheets of worn reports sealed together with age and pressure.
abattouy was a never ending mystery of hidden wonders. he was becoming less of a surprise how he managed to evade the akademiya for so long.
'... found a large group of mechanisms, similar to the huge walking machinery we previously found at the ruins of gurabad…'
the location sounded familiar from brief memory of the map of sumeru, it was closer to the deserts.
'... found an organization called schwanenritter, and its existence may be confirmed by the legend of ruins of dahri… recorder, trainee dastur, zandik.'
'.. the terrifying killing machine has stopped. zandik insisted on bringing it back to the akademiya to be disassembled and reverse-engineered…'
they appeared to all be remnants of research notes with a common theme: zandik. the name didn't ring any bells, though you had a feeling whatever you found wouldn't be favoured. what plagued you more was how abattouy managed to get a hold of these. not only were the contents alarming but they appeared to be the originals, not recreations.
where had he even collected them from?
you tried not to think too hard about the dark splotches splattered against the corner of one.
for a moment you sat seated just staring into space while fidgeting with the thumb on a wrench. first discovering active ruins, then the reports of ones attacking caravans and now these redacted reports?
before you thought better of it, you directed your attention to the device at your ear.
'who is zandik?'
the silence you received in response was both expected and concerning.
what had abattouy gotten himself into? and more importantly what were you following behind.
“i figured i'd find you here. you're starting to work more than me. cat tolerated one of us but i don't think he'll be forgiving with you.”
starting with a painful thud in your chest, you quickly rearranged the papers on your desk to shroud the letter. cyno never failed to sneak into your abode before, nor did rarely offer an expected arrival time but tonight was the one occasion you truly weren't ready.
“cyno! i—” turning in your seat, you tried to produce a face of carelessly flustered as you rested your elbows on the surface behind you. for once, you were grateful for your erratic and clumsy nature as the mahamantra stared down at you with thinly veiled suspicion.
your heart thumped recklessly against your sternum as the silver haired general approached, not stopping until his long tresses tickled the sensitive skin of your collarbone. you steadily kept his gaze, worried that the slightest distraction would peak his interest to investigate.
you couldn't let him find out … not yet.
cyno, always sensitive to your moods, narrowed his eyes as his palm came to hold your cheek. just when you thought you would face the interrogation of the mahamantra, you felt the soft exhale against your lips before he dropped a brief kiss to the quivering brim.
“come on, we're already out. may as well treat ourselves to dinner.”
you followed mutely as he led you down the intimate winding roads of the port. people shouted and laughed, going on about their day free of the akademiya weighted judgment. once you might have smiled at the thought, but now the sounds felt near unbearable to your ears as you shook away the beginnings of a headache.
it was a strange foreign feeling in a place called home.
you picked up the pace, hoping whatever destination cyno picked would be less boisterous. company aside, the students at the very least would give you a wide berth.
smoke from food stalls filled the air with the smell of meats, spices and breads that made your stomach roll in a way that wasn't pleasant. which was rather unfortunate because it only reminded you of the pings from missing lunch. nothing a single thing smelled like it would quell either ailment, but the thought of sitting in a restaurant felt worse so you pulled at cyno's hand until he stopped.
wordlessly you point towards the line up of food, feeling worse about ruining his plans but more confident it would at least keep your food off his lap if it became too much,
“stalls and the sky?”
cyno blinked and nodded slowly, a small smile crawling at his lips at the code. “stalls and the sky.”
stalls and the sky, had been the coined term for your first date. the saving grace that had swept up the remains of a sure disaster. cyno's popularity with the scholars had not necessarily improved with his tenure, but back then he'd practically been a walking pariah while getting comfortable in the shoes of the general mahatra.
civilians had not blinked an eye, only finding praise for the [hired] individual who would protect the wisdom of the god. but it didn't make for a very comfortable gathering with the constant stars. it was part of the reason you moved from the city and into the port. cyno too had come to enjoy the proximity to the desert.
letting cyno lead rather than you appetite, you remained tucked against him as he ordered a variety of items. every so often his gaze would flicker to you in search of approval but the best you could manage was a shrug. you hated the soft frown it promoted, but your options were limited.
food paid for, you took the lead towards the back of the port near the great trunk in the center. the roads brought you close to the top, but there was an alternative albeit less safe path that awarded a view if daring enough. once under the familiar branch, you hooked your elbows over the curve of wood with a good jump. cyno offered his shoulder for the final launch as you shifted into a seating position.
cyno followed shortly after, more agile as he hopped up with ease. you took the food as to give him room to get comfortable without smothering it.
the wind was less kind up here, whipping at your clothing and around your legs but the view it promised was worth it. the entire port opened up below, leaving the stars and moon free from the glow of the city. if you stared long enough, you could even make out the stretch of the desert wall beyond the dark forest in the distance.
it wasn't private, anyone with curious enough eyes could look up and find the two of you, but it was still yours.
the bag crinkled between you as cyno dug through and handed you a skewer. the fresh air helped a bit, but you still couldn't stomach more than a few nibbles here and there.
“i had to interview a scholar today..”
you frown at the sudden statement. in terms of his work, it wasn't the most unusual task.
“but he was a geo user so i didn't get much of a reaction.”
your lips part to speak, tongue stuck before reluctant laugher falls out. it was soft, slightly incredulous with surprised by how well the intended joke met its mark this time.
“it's because geo visions don't react well with other elements.”
shaking your head, you nod,” yeah, cyno, i know.”
the man smiles, more pleased with the ease of your shoulders than the successful joke.
you bite your lip and try to hang on to the flicker of joy it brought, not ready to fall head first back into your thoughts. but as soon as the joke floated away, the smile faded, no longer reaching your eyes.
this should be a moment to enjoy, not
cyno reaches up and runs his thumb over your lower lip, easing it out from the teeth.
“you can … talk to me about these things.” by things he means the studies, the research and everything. there was a time that you did. occasions where you shared everything, unable to escape the glee with each new discovery. and moments where you shared too much and it all came crashing down.
you had been such an idiot then. it had just been an innocent question. abattouy never gave you too much, unlike you keeping his sensitive information close. but you'd gleaned enough and ran to cyno at the first opportunity sprouting nativity:
'what can we do to change the sage's view on mechanical life forms? you're the mahamantra they have to listen to you.'
and they did, but not for the reasons you'd hoped.
cyno has cupped your face instead of responding, eyes desperately riveting over your face in search of more questions than he was ready to ask.
'i'll take care of it.'
now people like to say that it was inevitable. abatyouy had been careful but he wasn't perfect. there had been rumors floating around his research. wandering eyes accounting for tools he purchased. it was inevitable that the general mahamantra would be knocking on his door if he didn't cease looking into such things.
but you didn't need to be the one to open it.
when you swung open the door, surprised at the gesture but not turning down the opportunity to see your lover during the day. the jest fell off your lips as the general mahamantra stared pointedly away from you as the decree fell from his lips.
but all you could hear was the clutter of tools falling behind you.
anu said he never blamed you.
it was all inevitable
but you wish you hadn't been part of the plan.
“i've just been too deep in my work, but you were right, i needed this. i should be able to sleep better now thank you.” you express your gratitude by leaning over and pressing your lips to his cheek once, then the corner of his lips were the taste of spices lingered.
cyno didn't reply at first, but seemed to be mulling over it until at last he nodded and offered his arm to help you stand.
“anytime you need me,” he reiterated.
not every time, a voice silked in your ear.

3k followers event: Prompt List
please check the rules before requesting. I look forward to answering your requests! Some of these prompts will include what is written in the brackets behind the titles. For example prompt 2 will center around a sibling relationship. So either platonic!character x reader or if you f.e. request this for just Diluc or Aether it will be about the bond they have with their sibling.
Also I decided to make my Kaveh fic already part of this since it was based on one of the songs on this list
notes: the works will only be centered around these specific lines in this post, not the entire song lyrics
dark content blogs dni
Tumblr media
1. Island • Kensington
and I'll be an island and the shore where I stand can't be reached by more than waves; I told my sharks [...] I don't want a flame, I don't want to risk a fire that leaves a toxic waste
2. Brother • Madds Buckley (centered around a sibling relationship)
and I left you alone in a house, not a home, and I watched the burning grow as my hair filled with grey [...] brother I watched the sky burn and all I learnt was smoke fills the lungs like a disease
3. The Way It Was • Cassandra Coleman
if I go on with you by my side, can it be the way it was when we met? did you forget all about those golden nights?
4. Life After You • Daughtry
[Cyno x Reader]
all that I'm after is a life full of laughter as long as I'm laughing with you, and I'm thinking that all that still matters is love ever after, after the life we've been through; 'cause I know there's no life after you
5. Bed of Roses • Bon Jovi (pining or missing someone)
I want to lay you down on a bed of roses; for tonight I'll sleep on a bed of nails [...] still I run out of time or it's hard to get through till the bird on the wire flies me back to you
6. Bless the Broken Road • Jordan Rust
I set out on a narrow way many years ago hoping I would find true love along the broken road but I got lost a time or two, wiped my brow and kept pushing through, I couldn't see how every sign pointed straight to you
7. Lady May • Tyler Childers
I'm a stone's throw from the mill and I'm a good walk to the river; when my working day is over we'll go swim our cares away; put your toes down in the water and a smile across your face and tell me that you love me
8. Heartbreak Century • Sunrise Avenue
it's like we're stressing out to find some peace of mind; it's a story of our time. oh will you stay with me or chase another dream in this heartbreak century?
9. Sink or Swim • Tyrone Wells
hearing the song in your laughter, the melody I chase after, no one else has done this to me, [...] are we going down or will we fly? this could be a shipwreck on the shore or we could sail away forevermore.....this time it's sink or swim
10. False Confidence • Noah Kahan
[Kaveh x Reader]
you're here for a reason but you don't know why, you're split and uneven, your hands to the sky; and I wonder why I tear myself down to be built back up again; oh I hope somehow I'll wake up young again and all that's left of myself: holes in my false confidence
11. The Dreams We Never Lost • Tide Lines
people pray in church on sundays for moments like the day you took my hand; long afternoons we walked along the castle walls and the band played louder as we kissed behind the hall [...] and we'll raise a toast tonight to the dreams we never lost tonight, in your eyes I see the morning as it burns across the sky
12. High Hopes • Panic! At The Disco
had to have high, high hopes for a living; shooting for the stars when I couldn't make a killing; didn't have a dime but I always had a vision [...] didn't know how but I always had a feeling I was going to be that one in a million
13. Carl • Aeseaes
there will come soft rains in time, when you are grey and older, not a single cloud will know the burdens we have shouldered; earth, if i may, stand on your stage larger than life and life as large as we are; this lonely light looms in the cosmic night, we fell in love and spilled our blood on the pale blue dot
14. Hell And You • Amigo the Devil
but I want to be where all the stupid things I say sounds so romantic and true, 'cause I'd rot in hell with you if you'd just ask me to, I love the shitty things we do together, live with me in this sin forever.
15. All The King's Horses • Karmina
I knock the ice from my bones, try not to feel the cold; caught in the thought of that time when everything was fine; everything was mine; all the king's horses and all the king's men couldn't put me back together again
16. Embers • The Brevet
was a fragment, not the full, kind of hell bent on being alone until you came in and broke the mold; so come in close to me and let me tell you what it is I see, [...] I just wanna love you like an old romance would do
17. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde • Ezra Furman
now, my tender heart has hardened, I'm taking walks in my dead garden, I'm shooting marbles 'cross the floor in the maintenance closet at the grocery store; in my little black apartment I found love's secret compartment and now, I keep my things inside
18. Feed the Machine • Poor Man's Poison
hey, you, poison the well; watch it all burn, take 'em straight to hell; he's got the whole world in his hands, it was nice to know you, we've all been damned

I am the righteous hand of God and I am the devil that you forgot and I told you one day you will see that I'll be back I guarantee and that hell's coming with me
21. Bonfire Heart • James Blunt
[Dottore x Reader]
and I've been looking at the stars for a long, long time, I've been putting out fires all my life, everybody wants a flame, they don't want to get burned and today is our turn; days like these lead to nights like this lead to love like ours; you light the spark in my bonfire heart
22. Does Anybody Know • Jade Bird
does anybody know that I'm out here waiting? does anybody know I still call for you? does anybody know there's a soul that needs saving? does anybody know you like I do?
23. Some Kind of Disaster • All Time Low
I'm a liar, I'm a cynic, I'm a sinner, I'm a saint; I'm a loser, I'm a critic, I'm the ghost of my mistakes; and it's all my fault that I'm still the one you want, so what are you after? some kind of disaster?
24. Heaven Knows • Five for Fighting (angst, major character death)
tell me where the good men go before I wash away, walk me down the old brick road so I can die where I met you, hold me like we're going home, turn your tears to rain, bury me beautiful, heaven knows how I loved you
25. Make It To Me • Sam Smith
you're the one designed for me, a distant stranger that I will complete, I know you're out there, we're meant to be; so keep your head up and make it to me
26. Anti-Gravity • RUNAGROUND
in the skeleton closet you'll never know it; the secrets are prisoner inside, kaleidoscope truth from the ones who hold it, keeping the hostage alive [...] but we're anti-gravity lock down humanity, lightning insanity striking inside of me; it's the heartbeat of history

Are you open? Got a request.

Okay so, Irminsul is a big stuff to Teyvat. So what if reader who had a relationship with some character... The reader came back from work and the character was just shock and alerted to the point they would fight the reader because to them, reader was a stranger. Reader on the other hand, confused that why they're agitated or getting mad when they got home, they didn't missed any dates or missing something that would upset.
Then they started to push reader away and Reader called them, then they asked "Who are you? Who are you to step in?" That's where reader realized something was wrong with this world. And also, reader left without their things.
So basically like, no one remembered Reader, even their family or their friends, coworkers and neighbors, even their God who they lived under the designated nation no one... Reader was homeless and loveless.
So then reader was just wandering and lost that they had to lived with everyone never remembered their existence even though reader was important to them.

I was thinking if I added if the character's memory of the reader got altered that they thought that they're dating with someone else and it's not reader. So reader actually saw that, heartbroken that they saw it (because reader had the real memories).
—(•=•)
Gender neutral reader, doing this with Cyno as the character in question. At the end they meet a certain someone, quest spoilers obviously. Wanderer is here, I'm using the name Loki because that's what I named him in game.
---
You were looking for your boyfriend that morning, plans to hang out with him in your mind as you skip out the door. Getting to the planned meeting spot, you see him there waiting for you. Unlike his usual actions with you, however, he doesn't seem excited to see you at all. As you get closer, he still doesn't respond. Unable to recall the idea of making someone mad, you stretch your arms out to hug him...
Only for him to pull out his polearm, pinning you to the ground by the neck of your shirt. The look of disgust in his eyes, the way you could tell he was thinking of how to deal with you trying to hug him, only to soften when someone else comes along.
"Honey, they must have mistaken you for someone else." His partner coos, Cyno putting his polearm away before holding the person's hand, you looking on in utter confusion.
After a minute of sitting there, you decide you wanted to catch up with Tighnari. It had been a while since you talked to him, and you figured it would give you an idea as to what happened. Tighnari doesn't talk to you as a friend at all, giving you a second copy of the book he gave to everyone who he thought could get lost in the forest. When you ask him if he wanted to hang out, he brushes you off and calls you a stranger. When you show visible confusion, Tighnari merely stares through you before walking away.
Walking back to your home, you can't figure out what exactly had happened. Rushing to check your calendar, you don't see any missed dates to explain why everyone seemed to be mad at you.
The next day, you turn up to work only to be escorted out by security for going to someone's desk and preparing as if it was yours. As you were being escorted out, the same person who had been with Cyno flashes you a look, accompanied by a set of eyes that momentarily changes colours. You look back to see what happened with them, only for everyone around you to force you out.
Unemployed, of course leading to losing your house as you could nno longer afford rent. Of course, you found out the hard way that you were being accused of staying in a house the tenant had not given you permission to stay in.
Homeless. And now you had absolutely nobody to confide in, suddenly realising that you had nobody in your life. Your family became someone elses, your friends became their friends, and you were stripped of everything.
--
Applying for jobs, you always failed to get the work. The occasions when you got an interview, the topic of your previous employment came up and you couldn't explain your situation. Not a single place wanted you, and you knew how everyone looked at you when they found out about how much of a stranger you were to everyone.
But then, one night, the traveler came along by themselves. You look at them, wondering why they were bothering. Now that you thought of it, why wasn't Paimon with the traveler?
"_, is it?" They ask. Your eyes widen, surprised that they seemed to know who you were. People never mentioned your name when they talked about you, referring to you by your features without using your name. "I understand something drastic has changed in your life."
"I...I don't know." You scratch your head. "Everything I thought was real, isn't."
"I have someone I want you to meet. He's in a somewhat similar situation to yours." The traveler explains, holding out a hand to help you up.
"How do you know about this? Usually people just call me crazy when I bring up my past." You ask, to no response. Deciding you had nothing going on in your life, you follow them.
--
"So you're the infamous _..." You hear someone raise a brow, walking towards you.
"Don't try to intimidate them, Loki." The traveler tuts, starting the conversation. "In your memories, work or personal, is there anyone that striked you as a 'threat' in any way?"
"Not really...Well there was one person that had an unhealthy crush on my then boyfriend." You trail off. "They weren't happy to find out I started dating them. Not that it matters. I went to see Cyno one morning and he just...didn't know me."
"Who was this person?" The traveler asks, receiving a response from you and nodding as if they connected the dots. Truth be told, Nahida had asked Loki to keep a close eye on you (from a distance), and when she got enough evidence to confirm a suspicion on your strange actions she asked for the traveler's help.
"I don't understand what's so important about it. It's not like I can explain I have incorrect memories." You sigh.
"You can trust the traveler, they can't lie to save themselves." Loki teases. "You're probably going to by my new roommate based on how they're looking at me, as long as you don't annoy me you'll be fine."
--
When you were getting to know your roommate better, the traveler took it upon themselves to look into this person you named. It didn't take long for them to realise that, actually, this person had their own life that was now completely blank. The family they were connected to, the friends they had, the job they worked - all of it was wrong compared to what they knew before. The new job they were in, they were also underperforming in comparison to how you did when he knew of your position.
The traveler concludes that this person, out of jealousy, must have attempted to put themselves into your shoes to fulfil their desire of dating Cyno. Unfortunately, they couldn't risk telling anyone about these findings without telling them what they know about Irmunsul.
All they could do was support you into a new life, where they could.
