first fanfic! I'll preface this by saying I wrote this a long time ago art like 2am so if its not great at there's a lot lot errors IM SORRY!! Also 'figured this would good to post with this years new round of middle schoolers who just read the outsiders, genius or low hanging fruit? can't tell.

Johnny’s very obviously a nervous wreck so when you got together it was no surprise he was super worried about losing you

whenever it’s cold out he comes to your house instead of staying out in the lot as much as he used too

You, Johnny, and pony are like the ultimate trio honestly

I feel like most fanfics I read say pony’s normally a third wheel after you get together but I disagree in my mind you were already all friends or at least friendly and so when you got together it didn’t change things all that much as far as your friendship with Ponyboy

I feel like he’d have a lot to contribute to the gangs conversations but because he’s too scared to speak up he’d tell you about all his thoughts throughout the day when you’re alone you’re just easier for him to talk too

Dallas is suspicious of you at first but wouldn’t outwardly show it for Johnny’s sake and besides he’d act basically the same way he’d behave with you if you weren’t dating, when he inevitably realizes your good for him I think he develops a soft spot for you like he has for Johnny and Pony

People really don’t account for how “sassy” (for lack of better words💀) Johnny and Pony are and honestly it’s funny as hell, like his sarcastic remarks are rare in front of the gang but hilarious when they happen

I think because he’s so tough starved he really appreciates any physical contact from you even if it’s just a simple hand hold or resting your head on his shoulder

He loves cuddling, he’s def the little spoon most of the time, but when you first cuddle he’ll try to be the big spoon because it’s just what he expects to be the normal he figures that he should act like how Dallas and the guys he sees in movies are the way he should behave with a girl because he’s never really had anyone else to base a relationship off of

You’re the first person he comes too after being in a fight with his parents, if he’s hurt real bad you’ll always clean him up and spend the night comforting him by cuddling him and talking to get his mind off of it, though I think it might be harder for him to be touched after a fight because he’s just so nervous and shaken, but he warms up too it after a few minutes and it definitely does help him afterward.

He’s always real nervous about messing something up and you being made at him so he needs a lot of reassurance

He’s honestly real good at comforting people himself, like when your sad he knows exactly how to comfort you and make you feel okay or at least safe.

He’s always anxious about pda but I think he does like to at least hold hands in public at I don’t think he’s all that against hugging you or laying his head on your should in front of the gang even if it means he’ll have to deal with two-bits dumb comments, dal’s taunting smirk egging him on or everyone else’s stares even if it does make him pretty nervous he’ll always accept your touch.

Johnny cares a lot for people and never wants to see those he loves hurting which is a pretty obvious fact but because of this anything that happens to you stresses him out so bad

He doesn’t like fights and it’s rare for you guys to get into one, he’s not the best at communicating but eventually will tell you if somethings bugging him before he’d ever let himself get angry about it, I don’t see you guys getting into screaming fights either, it’s possible but it has to be something really bad

If you got together before he was jumped by those socs I’d think the change of him becoming even more quiet and nervous would be the hardest to watch

He doesn’t have a lot of money pretty obviously but he does like to sneak into the drive-in and save up to take you out whenever he can because he just can’t get enough of spending time with you

Saw people talk about the fact that the trio knows every single threat they have to face before they have to confront them in the show vs in the books they actually fall into traps and then have to find a way to escape it.

This is one of the main issues i have too honestly. I understand the choice of making annabeth pick up on the statues and the name of the place and obviously guess "oh that is medusa". It works bc medusa is important and connected to her mother and like the context clues are staggering.

But comparing that moment to the start of episode 7 (which i actually really enjoyed especially compared to ep6) makes the show lose most of the tension they could have.

Like why make it an immediate exposition dump on "oh you are this and you do that and we are here for this and that" i don't mind the change of making the shop the entrance of hell but why can't they just for once fall into a trap like? They are 12 years old trying to avoid a war and fix a situation way bigger than them, they are smart and quick witted but let them make mistakes and NOT KNOW some things.

I feel like a lot of the potential of the first scene went out of the window and it just became a "here's an exposition of a scene that happened in the book" and that way even if you cut it you don't lose anything really.

Changes are a GOOD thing and that is not my issue with the show at all! I have already said that I mostly enjoy the changes that were made and I am not expecting nor want a scene for scene copy but it does make it a lot less interesting imo if they go into EVERY SINGLE SITUATION knowing what they are up against for no real reason.

You can have them know some things and guess who they are up against but like if it happens every time the tension of the danger gets lost a lot and it becomes repetitive imo.

On the good side of things tho I think you can see in general that the trio has gotten a lot more comfortable in the characters and the improvement it's very visible. I already said how I really love the casting and I only expect them to get better at portraying the characters that is a no brainer.

The flash backs were probably my favorite part of the episode along with the way they decided to visually represent Hell.

I love that we get to see a peak of Sally and Poseidon's dynamic and how hard it was for Sally to raise Percy, not only bc of the risks his godly heritage brings but also bc she was a single mother and society in general tends to give up on people that don't fit the mold.

Small Percy thinking his mom wanted to get rid of him and saying "I would never do that to you" even tho she has spent every moment doing her best to protect him vs an older Percy having to choose to leave his mom behind so he can do the right thing even tho everything he has done has been fueled by the desire to save her. That was beautiful and tragic.

Casting in general is incredible bc even with the little we saw of Poseidon (I knew the actor from black sails so I knew he would be great) I think he really nailed it.

Hades is maybe a BIT too silly but I can live with it honestly. Like we'll have time to explore and make other characters deeper later on so i don't see this as an issue.

The decision to make them aware of Kronos and tell Hades is interesting and I do like that he offered to protect Percy if he believed to be at risk.

I understand that with how things are now you never know if a show will be renewed and if you'll get to actually finish your story so I don't mind them making certain stuff known sooner and sprinkling references to future events or call backs (MOA percabeth reference I am talking abt you).

Overall I think that the strongest suit of the show right now is the cast and the way they show characters dynamics and their potential.

Like I have said before my criticism stems from my love for the material and my wish for it to do well. I have opinions that maybe will not match with others and it's okay! Not everyone has to like something! I WANT the show to keep going and grow and evolve into a better adaptation with each step because I really love the basis they laid down, the story and the characters and I see the potential most of all. I can't wait for the last episode.

So, did Smilling Critters really die out here? Wouldn't there be some kind of way for them to still be alive, or for the prototype to revive them? It's because I would like to see them here in your AU, mainly I would like to see CatNap apologize to them and have an emotional meeting with all of them.

AAAAAAAAA, thank you so much!!! I'm glad you like my AU!

I have been going on and off about letting the other Smiling Critters have a permanent death in my AU or not, but I think that for the "main version" of the AU they will be gone. Permanent type of gone.

In my own headcanons, PickyPiggy ate the remains of CraftyCorn, Bubba Bubbaphant and KickinChicken. I still don't know if I prefer her to have been so hungry she ended up turning on her friends, or if an accident happened and she was so hungry she ate their bodies. Either way, she also tried to attack Bobby, with Hoppy and Dogday stopping it from happening and leaving her behind. Hoppy died during an accident while the trio was running from Catnap, and Bobby died soon after. Again, I don't know how she died: Either a broken heart from losing so many of her friends, or from a critical injury from trying to save Dogday.

I think most of their bodies if not all of them were claimed by the Prototype, so in theory they could be brought back. In practice, however, all of this started because Elliot Ludwig couldn't accept the fact his daughter would be gone and desperately wanted her to have a chance to live. Angel and Prototype both know Dogday and Catnap miss their friends, and the duo's ever-increasing guilt is only going to get worse as they process their trauma, but bringing their friends back from the dead is not the way to do it. Deep down Angel wants to try that, but they can't and shouldn't. And it hurts, yes, but they can't allow the cycle to continue.

... ON THE OTHER HAND. Good God do I wish I could bring these dumb critters back from the dead, or at least make it so that Catnap trapped everyone/sent them to the Playtime Co's equivalent of the shadowrealm or maximum security prison, and Angel has to save them and stitch them back together during chapter 4. OR, EVEN, everyone discovering the other critters were still alive when the authorities go in to investigate the factory and find them very malnourished, but still alive.

IN MY OPINION Picky would have a hard time eating, thanks to her trying to eat her own friends. She goes vegan because even the smell of meat makes her stomach curl, and she decides to try gardening around the isolated house. She can't look most of the other toys in the face due to trauma, but she's trying so hard.

Kickin picked beef with both Mommy Long Legs and Kissy Missy. MLL finds him to be a sort of "annoying little brother", and Kissy is always making an >:( expression with some of the things Kickin tries to do. His way of coping is via trying to fill himself with hobbies. He gets diagnosed with ADHD and surprises no one.

Bobby has abandonment issues, becomes Long Legs' and Kissy's best friend, and now they NEVER leave each other's side. Bobby tries romance books and movies, only to realize what really soothes her anxious mind is, ironically, horror. And Doom. Lots of Doom. She also takes responsibility in helping take care of the younger toys, and I think she's also the first to fully accept Catnap's apologies. She hugs him and he becomes close to crying, then she starts sobbing and they're both hugging each other and crying. Her right arm needs extensive treatment due to her getting it badly injured, though.

Craftycorn has a 50/50 chance of becoming an Youtuber or influencer and no one can't change my mind, girl is the queen of MySpace /j. But being serious, she, much like Bobby, has abandonment issues, but is also TERRIFIED of the dark thanks to Playtime. It also takes her a long time to go back into drawing, and an even longer time to pick up any red pencils. It reminds her of blood. This however does end with her finding out drawing horrifying creatures helps her cope with her anxiety! Second to forgive Catnap and acquires an habit of making outfits and trinkets for the other toys. Also she has to wear braces on her hands and is always grumpy when her hands (hooves?) start hurting.

Bubba... My baby. My poorest boy. Mentally speaking, he seems to be the most well-adjusted, until he finds out he keeps forgetting what he reads or studies. He tries to play it cool, to be a helping hand to poor Dogday and Angel, tries to learn everything from the other toys so he can start making plans on what he wants to do for this future, but he just. Can't think about a future. And a few months later it's 3AM and he can't stop crying and chewing on his own pillows, and he feels awful and he keeps forgetting things and why does every little thing bothers him SO much, his recovery has been going so well, why is it happening? And then the flashbacks happen, and oooh boy, he does NOT escape the PTSD and burnout diagnosis. Much like Craftycorn he's extremely grumpy about his symptons, but Bobby and Crafty are trying to help him be kinder to himself.

Hoppy would probably need at least an year or two to physically recover from her injuries. She hates the fact her legs got so badly hurt during her time at Playco, and for the first few weeks she's grumpy, very easily startled, and very mean to others. It takes her the longest to even look at Catnap without wanting to murder him. Catnap sometimes wishes she had never started to forgive him, because now the only one left to forgive him is himself. Also I think Hoppy is the second one hit with the ADHD diagnosis, surprising no one.

Also. Ahem. All of them are besties with Miss Delight, who helps some of them try to understand Catnap more. Our big feline is constantly worrying about hurting his friends again and his guilt is eating him from the INSIDE OUT, but at least Dogday is there to help him. Speaking of which!

Don't tell anyone but Dogday has been smoking and drinking. He's 21, tired, and therapy is a long process. He thinks he's hiding well from everyone else (he can't be a bad example to them!) until, again, 3AM hits and he sees Mommy Long Legs smoking and Catnap coming back from the Prototype's barn smelling like alcohol. So all three of them stare at each other like "...", until they hear something falling down inside.

Surprise surprise, it's a drunk Angel.

THANKFULLY. These bad habits will eventually go away as, again, they recover from the trauma and start finding healthier coping mechanisms. But until then everything is MESSYYYYYY

... Okay now I'm once again reconsidering the idea of bringing them back from the dead or not rip-

Fear of the RDA coming back was something common, as everyone wanted to be believe they were gone for good and that there was nothing to fear. That was all a lie as soon enemies from the past that everyone thought they were driven from the planet will be returning back to pandora, but no on could tell when they were coming back.

Y/n " date night" The trio were going on a date night leaving neteyam and mo'at in changer of the younger kids, Jake and neytiri had planned this night knowing they haven't had enough time with their mate. Since the kids had become older and their responsibilities for the clan had started to change as well.

Neytiri " it will be good night for us to have some time with you, away from the clan"

y/n " anytime I have with you two I love deeply"

Jake " come one ladies enough talking lets get going" you and neytiri soon laugh, as she grabs your hand and soon walked towards the ikran together. Soon the tiro had taken off into the night sky starting off their date night, hoping this night will be magical but that was all going to turn out to nightmare.

y/n " how would two feel like having another kid" Jake and neytiri look at you, as your question had gotten them off guard.

y/n " well tuk is now seven and wont be seen as baby anymore, and I have been thinking about having another kid"

neytiri " you want another kid"

y/n " yes I know lo'ak is my son but I want to bring another child into this world, a kid like their sibling that are apart of two worlds"

Jake " I don't mind having another kid or two more it will be good" Jake and neytiri seemed to be all smiles after your questions, they had always been wanting to have another kids after tuk but either of them knew how to ask the question.

Jake " well now that settled let have some fun before we have to return to the kids" you and neytiri had smiled as you had started a game of chase, as Jake or neytiri had tried to caught you with the prize a kiss from you and cuddling with you tonight.

y/n " oh come on don't tell me the might warriors can't caught their mate" you had made a joke toward Jake and neytiri making them want to caught you even more now, as you ran threw the glowing forest at night. The ground light up below you as you feet touch it as you ran.

Jake " you can ran and make jokes all night long we will get you soon"

y/n " that sounds like an empty promise"

neytiri " we will get you ma y/n" you were running and laughing but it didn’t last for long, until someone and tackled you making you roll down a hill for a while. You soon opened your eyes to look up and see it was Jake and neytiri. Jake “ we caught you sweetheart”

neytiri “ we win ma y/n”

y/n “ yes you win now let me up” Jake and Neytiri smirked at you, they didn’t let you up for a while longer. They soon let you up as you had a bit more fun before laying down on some grass, you were sleeping peacefully until someone shakes you up. y/n “ huh” you soon saw Jake and neytiri were loooking up the sky, and saw a bright thing in the sky. It was not a star it was the RDA and soon enough a beam of fire started hitting the ground.

Jake “ run now” neytiri had helped you up onto your feet and soon all three of you started running. As a wave of fire was coming behind you, soon enough you had tipped, losing Jake and neytiri.

y/n “ jake Neytiri” you had reached a high point calling your husband and wife, you couldn’t see them.

???? “ y/n” soon neytiri came running towards you and soon hugged you, she was crying as you two look at the burning forest. Soon Jake hugged you as him and neytiri check to see if you were okay.

Jake “ honey are you okay”

y/n “ nothing to bad”

Neytiri “ we thought we lost you, we can’t lose you ma y/n”

y/n “ I’m okay”

y/n “ no the children and clan”the tiro soon head back home right away, everyone in the clan wide awake.

???? " mama" you soon heard your name getting called as you see the kids coming race towards you and your mates, you and neytiri were comfort the kids while Jake was trying to clam down the people. That night it started a whole new nightmare for all the navi on Pandora as the humans had come back, and there was going to be a war. Unknown to you that night your life and everyone else life will never be the same anymore, the once happy family you cherish so much will soon start fall apart piece by piece as the return of the RDA steal everything you and the navi hold so dear in life.

One of my biggest problem with MK1 is that it took Bi han’s iconic blue eyes from him to make he seem more human

So this is what he ended up looking like which isn’t half bad but he still would have looked better with blue eyes but then they released an ice skin for christmas which gave me a great hc

Since we know from previous games that cryomancers especially mixed blood cryomancers starts developing their cryomancy as they get older and more experienced with their skills so what if the effect of their developing cryomancy physically alter their bodies as they get older. Like it starts with just their eyes getting more blue and then turning lighter shades of blue as the years go on, thier hair turns pure white rather than going grey, their skin get paler and develop an almost translucent sheen to it but by far my favourite hc is that every cryomancer has a different and unique showflake design that shows up in their eyes when they use their power, also their eyes glow an electic sort of blue when they are using their powers or if they are in a dark room.

I love the idea that the cryomancers parthers(Sareena,Johnny,Hanzo and Casssie) are all in love with the unique snowflake pattern in their respective partners eyes as for them it looks like the most beautiful design in the world and they carry the patterns with them in someway as a reminder of their love for their partners

Johnny and Sareena have silver necklaces with the snowflake pattern of Bi han’s eye as the charm, Hanzo has Kuai liang’s snowflake carved on the hilt of his sword and Cassie has a small blue crystal charm of frost snowflake that she wears in her charm bracelet. The cryomancer trio are aware of this and are honestly a bit embarrassed about how much their partners adore their inhuman traits since I believe it was a cause of shame for them once upon a time about how none of them can ever be full human.

But that's also such a cute hc and I'm adopting it immediately if you don't mind sharing.

I do feel like when Kuai Liang found out that Hanzo had carved the design into the hilt of his katana be's was speechless bc he knows how much Hanzo values his weapon and how loath he is to change any part about it

Johnny and Sareena got Bi-Han a necklace too but he won't tell anyone what the charm is

Cassie also gets the snowflake etched into her gear so that she has the symbol on her whenever she can't wear her bracelet, to keep her safe in battle. Frost can't help but hug her every time she sees it bc she's still not used to ppl loving her that much

Romione Hot Take

So I have seen arguments from Dramione antis claiming that Dramione would only benefit Draco (re. Draco's redemption) and Hermione would just be a prop to Draco's redemption arc in an AU where Dramione was canon.

And I kind of agree? I do think Hermione could benefit somehow from the ship if I think hard enough but Dramione mainly benefits Draco when you look at it from a surface level.

But I would pose to Romione fans that this criticism applies to Romione too. But in the reverse: Romione benefits Hermione more than Ron.

Off the top of my head, I can recall various and numerous moments where Ron was very caring and protective of Hermione. Like Ron covering Hermione with a blanket (or something like that), Ron screaming when Hermione was being tortured by Bella, Ron praising Hermione for being brilliant, Ron showing concern when Draco hit her with the growing teeth jinx, defending her against Snape in book 3 etc. Of course, Ron has his jerk moments but the dude is a teenage boy. He learns from his mistakes and it's nothing to crucify him for.

I can't say the same for Hermione. When I think about Hermione's treatment of Ron, the first moments that come to mind are moments where she is dismissive, cold and belittling Ron. Nothing Ron has done can top Hermione's vicious canary attack and the way she shows absolutely no remorse for it (she even jokes she is tempted to do it again in book 7). Or when Hermione doubted Ron deserved to be prefect in book 5. Or the Scabber and Crookshanks' fiasco and Ron was the one who was made out to be the bad guy. Hermione does care for Ron in her own way, not saying she doesn't, but it's sickening how the narrative constantly vindicates her. And plus there are a few moments where she shows care for Ron that make her look bad because it involves hurting others. Like how she sabotaged Cormac in tryouts so Ron could be goalkeeper. This is not as romantic as it seems.

I can't believe I keep defending a ship I don't like. But I am tired of seeing Romione fans toss stones from their glass houses. Several criticisms they level at Dramione shippers (most of whom they blanket label as rape apologists and sexists) can be applied to their canon ship.

Romione is not the ultimate romance. I am sure that if Ron treated Hermione the way she treated him, people would have a different tune about this ship. Ron deserved better than Hermione. Ron deserved someone who would build him up and could reciprocate his caring nature. Because Hermione ain't it.

Ron does not need Hermione. Ron is a sociable guy and has other friends and can make more friends. When JKR remembers to treat Ron with respect, the guy is smart enough on his own and he's probably the most emotionally intelligent of the trio. He's definitely the one with the most common sense. Hermione needs him more than he needs her. Romione does little for Ron. Sometimes I feel that Romione is just there to make Hermione feel special IMO. Romione and Hinny serve no great purpose as ships except to ensure our main characters can pop out their annoying offspring in the epilogue. If you take out the ships, nothing really changes.

That's my random TED talk. Not interested in hearing any defence about Romione either. I don't think there is anything that can endear me to this lacklustre ship.

Camp Camp S5E1 opinions (spoilers)

I just watched the new episode of Camp Camp and nobody cares but here's what I have to say, first:

(this is your disclaimer to please watch the new episode LEGALLY and in a way that supports the creators. Even if that means blocking spoilers for a bit so you can watch it for free when it's available. It's a small team, and they deserve all the support they can get because making cartoons is hard!)

All this is my opinion, if you disagree, let me know! I genuinely want to discuss it. If you agree with me, then feel free to vent along with me and we can be excited or dissapointed together. The show qualifies as art and is open to criticism. Also WARNING: SPOILERS FOR THE NEW SEASON PREMIERE OF CAMP CAMP!

Ok with all that garbage out of the way, here's what I have to say:

Likes:

• Max’s new voice is pretty good. I got used to it pretty quick. Props to the VA!

• Dolph’s new design is cute. I totally understand why they changed it and the redesign is good.

• DAVID WITH GUN. DAVID WITH GUN.

•I think the idea of the whole camp hating the trio is funny and I kind of wish they made it real even though it went against the point of the episode kind of.

• The part where the trio is shaming Preston and they all move in sync was the one part that made me laugh. I love when they're all being goofy together.

• I liked the idea with the circle in the dirt at first because I thought it was just Max’s way of illustrating a point and I thought it was cute how he included his friends. Started as a nice moment

• Nurf lovingly flipping them off was funny.

• my gwenvid heart was soaring. They were very cute and I wish we got a more overt gwenvid moment as a send-off. Like, it doesn't have to be made canon and can stay subtle but something for the fans would have been nice.

• Gwen’s new voice did a good job. Slightly different vibe to her but it wasn't bad at all. I liked it. It was an interesting change and I didn't mind at all.

• The scene with Max and David’s hike was beautiful and the best part of the episode by far. They're both so in character, they are well-written and their dynamic is so sweet, and the message rings true. It was a nice moment and something I think Max needed to hear.

• “somebody. Fucking. Has to.” GUYS WHEN I TELL YOU I FJGKRNGKRHDNR WHAT A CALLBACK. I wish they made David’s reaction a little longer and made it more of a moment because I nearly missed it at first but once I heard it I got so excited. Really, Max’s whole pep talk in that moment is very good.

• The camera is such a thoughtful and fitting gift for Max because he's struggling with letting go of camp, and the fact he uses it himself too makes it all the more sweet.

• My lil Makki heart jumped when Max came back and Nikki shouts his name. It was sweet, the excitement and joy in her voice. I forgot it was meant to be a joke at first honestly it was so sincere.

• the animation was great! I loved the facial animations, especially on David and Nikki. Idk why those two had such good expressions but I'm not complaining.

• the trio. They're such besties. I'm love them.

• Honestly the fight cloud with Nikki and Neil was fun idk why I liked watching them wrastle. Children fighting is amusing.

• I'm glad Gwen finally got recognized for her talent. It’s a running theme throughout the show that Gwen is more talented and capable than she lets on and this was a fine way to end it. Good for her.

Dislikes:

• opening narration was unnecessary

• wish they introduced Dolph’s new look more organically. It deserves to be it’s own moment.

• why can't Nikki write? She's 9 not 4. She was never stupid.

• plot is all over the place. It's like two or three episodes smashed into one and there's not enough extra time for any of them. It lacks focus. If it were up to me I would have cut out the first half with the social media app and the trio trying to get people to like them. It felt like filler.

• it's just not very funny. There was maybe one joke that made me laugh. And not even hard. Camp Camp is usually pretty funny to me so I don't get what happened. The comedy is all so slow despite the plot being so crammed so I wonder if the delivery was faster if we would have more time for plot. Anyway, they just lacked any sort of setup or punchline. Just nothing jokes.

• Why does Max go along with trying not to be bossy? He clearly didn't care before and the way it's written it isn't implied he's doing it for his friends. It's like he suddenly did care about being liked out of nowhere. I think it would have been funny and made more sense if maybe Nikki or Neil made him play along, like Nikki bit him until he stopped.

• the circle thing. It was a cute idea at first because I thought Max was just making some kind of metaphor, and I thought that it was cute. I wish they kept it like that and just made it a sweet moment of Max expressing his devotion to his friends in his own way but instead they stay in the circle and are just unfunny for a few minutes and then Nikki says they ran away?? Like first of all why are you running away and also no, you didn't run away because you're still at camp. WHY ARE THEY IN THE CIRCLE IT DOES NOTHING FOR THE PLOT AND MAKES NO SENSE?

• I HATED THE CLOSE-UP OF NIKKI’S NOSE SO MUCH IT WAS SO UNFUNNY WHY IS SHE MADE TO BE SO UNLIKABLE FOR THAT ONE BIT JUST SO MAX CAN LOOK AT HER IN DISGUST IT WAS SO BAD

• Is it just me or do they keep playing sad music like... A lot? It just keeps popping up every other scene and at some point it just became funny to me. It's so badly paced out lol

• I mentioned Max’s pep talk was good and it was but also I wish that it was in a better written context. Like, I think it would have been a better end to the cliff scene instead of a way to motivate David to... fight a robot cause... He thinks he can't... Because reasons? It doesn't make a whole lot of sense and I think that it's supposed to connect but it really doesn't.

• Too much Preston. Never liked Preston never will. Why did he talk so much.

• the running gag of everyone being like “oooookay” when the trio assumes they hate them is just... So unfunny omg

• This episode suffers from season 4 syndrome, which was a characteristic of season 4 that I heavily disliked where they sacrifice the outrageous personalities of the characters to have them sit around and discuss life lessons that aren't even that profound to begin with. It's boring, unnatural, and uncharacteristic. At least make it funny. I don't want to see them sit on the ground and calmly discuss basic friendship lessons like I KNOW THAT NOW PLEASE DO SOMETHING INTERESTING.

• I wish David and Max got a better goodbye. I kind of liked David’s line of “That's good enough for me.” but I wish they expanded on it. Maybe have Max struggle to be sincere and make it more obvious that he's trying to act tough and David still sees through it. So he's like “I get that's you're struggling to be sincere so ill take what I can get because I appreciate the effort.”

Overall, it was kind of a mixed bag. It had some very VERY good moments and a lot of good ideas, but I think it was messy and didn't use it's time well, as well as not taking advantage of a lot of potential jokes. I understand that they likely had limitations but they tried to tackle too much with one episode. If I were to change anything I would cut the first half and work on giving the characters a more clear and smooth arc from beginning to end. Pick a focus and stick to it! Still, I'm excited to see where this will go!

I once read the post where Vlad said: "This anime is obviously a romantic school comedy! Danny and I are the main characters, so it means we are love interests. (to Jazz, Tuck, Sam) You guys are the heterosexual support cast, so make sure do not across the line" (I saved screenshot but Idk how to add photo in ask). Developing the subject, how do you see this anime au? Sailor moon alike relationship? Should it also be a horror cause of creepy natural ghosts?

I've never seen Sailor Moon so I can't comment, but it definitely seems like Danny Phantom was heavily influenced by Yu Yu Hakusho, so it wouldn't take a lot of mental gymnastics to envision an anime version of DP being a lot like this, mixing humor and drama and the supernatural. I'd love to see some actual horror thrown in, though. Animes like Vampire Hunter D and Bio-Booster Armor Guyver come to mind. Guyver's not actually billed as horror, but there's enough body horror, gore, and horror elements in it to qualify, in my opinion. I mean, look at this thing, it's terrifying:

Aside: This ask got me nostalgic for Guyver and I went and watched a few episodes. (The last time I saw it was in the 90s on VHS.) I was floored. There is so much it has in common with DP that I wonder if Hartman wasn't inspired by it as well.

Compare: the black-haired, blue-eyed MC (Sho) who's not the best student, had a disfiguring experience involving something with lots of power and now has two different personas, human and non-human, the latter having incredible strength and unearthly energy that he uses to combat threatening entities that are Not Of This World; best friends are a glasses-wearing geek and a girl who's also the show's love interest, completing the trio. Of course Sho spends a great deal of time protecting his friends, but they also cheer him on from the sidelines and offer help when able, much like Tucker and Sam.

But get this: The only other person with a Guyver armor happens to be the villain (spoiler: not really the villain, it's all an act, and eventually they team up). This is the guy:

Long hair. V-hairline. Sideburns. Thick black eyebrows. The English dub isn't that good, but this guy's voice is deep and nice to listen to. He's supposed to be a student but looks like he's 35.

Anyway. DP anime.

I don't see much changing at all plot-wise. Upping the rating to at least PG-13 is definitely prescribed, so there can be things like blood and fantasy violence and adult humor. Let Danny say "hell", "damn", "bastard", and the occasional "shit", like in YYH. Naturally, Vlad and Danny would start out as rivals before laying aside their differences and teaming up to save the world—which is exactly the formula that YYH and BBAG follow in terms of enemies-to-allies.

I'm imagining a steady progression of saving each other's butts and fighting increasingly powerful enemies until it comes to a point that they both realize they'd die for each other. (Literally Kuwabara and Yusuke lmao.)

In fact, just do a DP/YYH wardrobe swap for all the characters, because Dan Dan Phantom Show is something I'd pay money to see 😂

part one, and with the colours same rules apply. link to my thoughts/ reactions to the first two books

episode 5: not to repeat myself but i want a set tour so bad

"nothing we can't handle together" Lockwood is great

I love Lockwood's little recoil when Lucy tells him "to make an effort"

roleplay version 2. I love the little movements on Lockwoods face when he saw Danny's body. missing scene (sort of) does Barnes ever find out who the body is? and that Danny was someone Lockwood knew?

talking about Flo and then meeting her at night. inbetween: what was happening? what were they doing?

the way "her" was said and Lockwood yelling "run"

book quote "Flo Bones annoyed me" came through loud and clear. I love Lockwood's face watching Flo and Lucy bicker.

Sugar count: 6/7 I think

I love Flo noting the buttered toast exchange (makes what she says later on so much better.) random note: what's on the board

I actually really like the design for Joplins flat and this conversations with her

"incase anyone misses me. unlikely..." poor George

missing scene: they should have had a Winkman thug killed by the mirror which was partially why they wanted to get rid of it so quickly

love breaking and entering, and there being so many things in the warehouse

scene: I hope Leo gets to be a little shit like he is in the book (though i do love Lockwood and Lucy are so sweet when talking to him)... George is not doing well is he? (so glad they showed us this)

Poor Lockwood but he is so funny talking to Winkman

Lucy: "my friend is really hurting"

Winkman "is she a friend? is she family?" good questions the answer is yes and more

still don't know why Lockwood poured the brown bottle onto the floor. Love this small confrontation between Lockwood and Lucy and poor George was so worried about them.

I love this bit with Carver final words being "come with me" is so eerie

episode 6

such a ritual to prevent ghosts (the salt and light is pretty)

again Barnes cares for them in his own way. I love how nervous Lockwood was watching Lucy think before answering Barnes. and I love the little insights we get into how Barnes works and his thoughts on them as a trio.

I love Lockwood and George showing their anxiety waiting for Lucy then going after her (random thought chalk would be great make arrows on the ground or wall showing which way she went)

should have been added: the boneglass ghosts asking for their bones back. It would have added to the emotional moment of freeing them at the end.

the lockwood slide hand hold I love the umbrella stand of swords

hello Flo. I love this moment between Lockwood and Flo the shared history, the history of the house still being present and her talking about Lucy. Also George calling Lockwood "Locky" and him being all smiley at George and Flo getting along to him going "only one person in the world can call me Locky"

also I think there is a piano in the background and I need someone to play it (go tomorrow from Hill House specifically no idea why but you know)

I love the bit with Kipps honestly. And how emotional they made the gift of the necklace (in the book it was like a paragraph) and him fishing for what's on her mind after seeing the talk with Kipps.

just noticed the map George draws has Lockwood written on the other side

the relic collumns are gorgeous and i love the delivery of "famous legacy" so much. this chat is so funny

I get the impression that they changed Penelope Fitters to daughter of Marissa instead of granddaughter is a good change (05/01/23 I say this as I have not read Empty Grave yet so it might change). and i love the "you feel safe with him. Mr Lockwood" and Lucy fiddles with the necklace.

I love the bit in the library them leaving evidence that someone was in there and it being spotted (and them fleeing the party is so pretty)

episode 7

random note: where did Lockwood put the book? and if it was in his pocket the entire time how did it not get soaked?

love the way they hide. and love Cutter.

Love this end between them all. George getting excited over a mystery and Lockwood needing to recover and the shoving of donut into George's mouth to shut him

ending: I wish we saw a little of the inside of the room and just see the look on their faces as they see what lays inside.

random thoughts that didn't fit anywhere else they could have had Lockwoods sunglasses and could have worked in the toy mobile scene not in this season but maybe future seasons (you know if we had any)

A Scorch Trials rant

Is 2024 and I'm making my way back into tmr, that saga has had a choke hold on me since elementary school. I was happy with the material we already had but James Dashner decided to write a sequel trilogy and now I have to catch up. (Honestly, I find a bit of a stretch in the new books, like 73 years later Sonya's granddaughter is the new protagonist, and SPOILER: I heard that they say that Newt was the supposed cure-all this time??? Idk maybe I would change my mind after I read them).

I loved the first movie and I tried reading the books in elementary school but The Scorch Trials was way too hard to understand for me, so I just stuck with the movies. I'm reading it again and it's as crazy as I remembered.

I'm appalled at how fucking annoying is Thomas. I'm on chapter 23 (I was) and I hope this gets better (it didn't). He just whines and is always thinking about Teresa, the only thing in his mind is "Teresa, Teresa, Teresa". Man, I understand you like her and you are worried about her but there are more important things happening. I can't believe he literally curls into a ball and cries because she is not there and is not answering his telepathic messages.

Another thing that baffles me is the lack of information about the other Gladers, I know the story is from Thomas's pov and he was in the Glade for like five days, but we have people dying in horrifying ways and no one reacts to it and in some cases we don't even know who just died. Like a guy just got decapitated by a metal ball and the only thing we know (after his death) is that his name was Frankie. And no one reacts to it, are Frankie friends in the room with us??? All the other guys without names are like npcs they don't really add a lot, they are just here to die.

When Jorge and Brenda appeared I was excited but that died as quickly as Franky, the moment I met Brenda's book personality. Wdym Brenda literally throws herself to Thomas, tells him that he would be a better leader, kisses him, and tells him that she likes him. Then she starts hugging him, holding his hand, resting her head on his shoulder, and she tells him that they should leave the others (including Jorge) and go to save heaven together. They met less than an hour ago, what the fuck is going on????? Where is badass Brenda??? Is a fucking post-apocalyptic world, with crazy zombies everywhere, why are you acting like that???

Right now I'm in chapter 34, things are getting exciting but I was hoping for some character development, not only for Thomas but everyone. Minho is really impulsive and that's something that puts them in a bad position with new people. Newt is just there, I was waiting for more action on his part. Overall I hope the dynamic between them evolves, in the movies they are a great trio and they feel like best friends, but in the book not so much.

And to finish this long rant a pet peeve of mine is what is with James Dashner describing the smell of everything??? I didn't want to know that in a small hallway reeks from everyone's breaths. I didn't want to know that something smells like Frypan's pits or Gally's feet, and I didn't want to know that Brenda's breath has a nonscent that Thomas finds pleasant, thank you very much.

So would you say Hyde and Eric are like brothers and Hyde and Kelso are like best friends? Or would it be Hyde and Eric are best friends and everyone else is a close friend? But also Donna has a close friendship with Eric prior to/and during dating and she’s closer Hyde than Kelso and Fez. But then there’s also Hyde and Jackie ahhh lol Idk I’m trying to think of the hierarchy of friendships between characters. Like who’s closest to who etc😂

My understanding / interpretation:

Eric and Hyde Are Like Brothers.

Eric is the one Hyde would go to when Edna's abuse got too much for him, to the point of showing -- gasp! -- emotion, as we see in "Career Day" (1x18) when he's looking for Eric but Finds Red instead.

Hyde also shares his truths with Eric, something he does rarely with anyone else.

The Formans take Hyde into their home as one of their own when they barely have enough money to feed their biological kids. Eric shares his room with Hyde, and so on and so on.

Hyde, although he enjoys burning his friends, protects Eric from their other friends' burns -- and supports him -- when Eric is in true emotional dire straights. They bond with each other in ways they don't with anyone else, like brothers who love each other.

Hyde and Kelso Were Partners In Crime

Before (and even a little during in season 1) Kelso dates Jackie, Kelso is the friend Hyde can count on to do stupid, juvenile crap with, things Eric might not be inclined to do -- until he starts rebelling in season 1. Once Kelso became obsessed by sex, Jackie being his first chance at having it, Hyde loses his partner in crime of ten years. Fez replaces Kelso in this role.

Eric and Donna Are Best Friends from Toddlerhood

Eric and Donna grow up together (forget the retcon from "Class Picture" [4x20]). "That '70s Pilot" (1x01) indicates they've known each other from infancy, the Formans and Pinciottis being neighbors since before Eric and Donna were born. By the time they're four-years-old, Donna already loves Eric (as little kids do, not romantically).

Their friendship is a soulmate one that eventually turns romantic. They enjoy the same music, the Packers, etc., are intimately (not sexually) playful and physical with each other. They challenge each other to grow and change. Are completely comfortable, at home with the other ... until their romantic feelings essentially burst in season 1, which begins to transform their relationship.

Donna and Hyde Have a Different Kind of Best Friendship

Donna is the opposite of Hyde's main female influence (his abusive mom). She's unconditionally supportive, and he supports her -- even as her relationship with Eric transitions into romance (and then he goes all antagonist since he wants Donna himself romantically). They relate to each other on a level Eric can't because of their toxic home lives. Theirs is a special bond of mutual understanding, and once Hyde's role as Eric's foil is finished in season 1, Hyde becomes (again) someone Donna trusts in certain areas where she doesn't trust anyone else. See "The Relapse" (4x6) for a great example.

Eric, Hyde, and Donna Are the Inner Circle

The three of them have a special friendship intimacy they don't have with Kelso (and eventually Fez). They're a trio within their group of friends.

Hyde and Jackie's Relationship Evolves Several Times

First, they're mutual antagonists. Then, in "Prom Night" (1x19), they recognize each other's humanity, complexity, compassion, and vulnerability. The seed of a deep bond is planted.

Kelso cheats on Jackie with Laurie (a make-out) the very next episode after he reconciles with Jackie. Once Hyde catches Kelso cheating ("Red's Last Day" [2x02]), he's caught between his loyalty to Kelso and his protectiveness of Jackie (his personal moral code is being tested with conflicting drives), so he splits the difference. He'll do what he can so Kelso gets himself caught by Jackie. That way, to Hyde's mind, he does the right thing by both people: doesn't rat out his friend but also does let his friend get away with betraying and hurting Jackie without consequences.

After Jackie does catch Kelso cheating, Hyde takes on a strong protective role for her. He likely feels guilty for not straight-up telling the truth about Kelso, and he does what he can (within his tolerance level) to help Jackie not feel lonely or alone, to teach her how to protect herself emotionally from Kelso's bullying via his proxy Laurie, bolsters Jackie's self-esteem, defends her against Eric's hostility, initiates her into the circle -- making her an official member of the basement gang -- and goes to jail in her stead and keeps mum about that fact even though it makes him homeless.

Jackie's platonic idolization of him takes a turn after this incident. She mistakes her deep gratitude for love, but reality hits during her and Hyde's kiss in "Jackie Bags Hyde" (3x08). Hyde's left with unrequited romantic feelings that he suppresses. But his resentment is clear once Jackie and Kelso start to reconcile.

In season 4, Jackie and Hyde are friends -- said with a whisper. A definite comfort has developed between them, as well as a level of camaraderie. His burns toward her no longer have any bite.

By season 5, they've fallen in love.

Fez Is Closest to Hyde when Kelso Dates Jackie and Closest to Kelso when Hyde Dates Jackie

Hyde is Fez's protector, teacher in American teen culture, and closest friend (although Hyde's not above using Fez's naivety to his own advantage at times).

Fez and Kelso are antagonists until season 3. Then they become friendly because the girl (i.e. Jackie) they both want is hyperfocused on Hyde. They're not quite friends, though, until season 5 when they become best friends by the end. In season 4, however, Kelso tends to be a jerk to Fez, and Hyde gives Fez his support in several ways because *they* are friends.

Jackie and Fez

Once Fez's romantic interest in Jackie ends in "Ice Shack" (3x10), they form a friendship. They support each other and (mildly) betray each other, similar -- I believe -- to Jackie's friendships at school with people in her grade.

Donna and Jackie Eventually Become Best Friends

Jackie is Donna's first female friend, and Donna is Jackie's first friend who isn't a social-climbing backstabber. They grow very close, supporting each other through rough times and sharing good times. And, like most friendships, they don't always do right by the other, regardless of having no ill intent. They're teenagers, so that's not an uncommon phenomenon. (Happens in adult friendships, too, of course.)

Kelso and Eric Are Good Friends

Likely because they've been friends since first grade, Eric feels loyalty to Kelso. Eric gives most of Kelso's bad behavior a pass except when he learns Kelso made a sexual move on Donna. Yet Eric seems only to give Kelso that one time while Kelso consistently invades Donna's sexual boundaries. It's bad, OOC writing because Eric wouldn't allow Kelso to stick around if he violated Donna again.

That fact, unfortunately, is beyond the scope of this particular meta.

Eric and Kelso display a closeness in certain episodes, and they obviously care about each other. Kelso warns Eric about Casey for Donna's sake and for Eric's. Eric helps Kelso get a waiter job at the Holiday Hotel despite Kelso's atrocious, entitled, and vengeful behavior toward him in the same episode.

Eric worries Kelso will hate him for keeping Jackie's kiss with Todd the Cheese Guy a secret for a few hours. After Eric is punched unconscious (one punch did it) by a dillhole at a bar, Kelso -- along with Hyde -- defends Eric's honor and scraps with Eric's assailant and his bud.

I don't understand what makes up the core of their bond, but Kelso and, especially, Eric do feel genuine friendship for each other.

Eric and Donna Are Friends with Fez Because Fez Is Part of the Group

Donna and Eric each have one significant episode with Fez that demonstrates their care for him. But beyond that, their friendships are woefully underdeveloped. Donna does, however, set up Fez and Caroline on a date when Fez is too shy / scared / overwhelmed to do it himself.

Fez calls Eric one time at three am to make sure they're still friends, but that's essentially a joke to confirm Nina's claim of Fez's insecure neediness. Early in the show, Fez claims to hate Eric in the circle but immediately feels guilty and says he loves Eric.

And that's about it for Eric-Fez and Donna-Fez friendship-wise.

This band is a Thai-American pop-rock trio of three brothers who fulfilled the dream of their deceased elder brother, Note, by forming band and naming it after him. This song is all about having an unrequited crush on your friend and wishing they would make the first move.

9. Bodyslam: ท่านผู้ชม [Than Phu Chom/Viewers]

I got really into Thai rock as background music for when I have to focus at work, and Bodyslam is one of my faves. Toon's voice is iconic! This song is about not ever being able to do the right thing according to your audience (and the frustration around that feeling).

10. Speak Up: Jangan Pernah [Trust Me]

Speak Up are an Indonesian punk rock band and this song is suuuuuuch a jam. It's basically asking your lover to trust that you'll be by their side in the future (forget your last love and my previous behavior and focus on who I am now).

Back on my GOLDEN AND ELLIOT FRIENDSHIP BRAINROT

"“He came specially to say good-bye to you,” Golden said, more politely, but his tone also questioned Elliot’s intelligence. “I do not know if you are not interested, or protecting yourself, but you cannot guard yourself against the whole world. You only succeed in placing a barrier between yourself and the world.” He hesitated. “I know that from personal experience.” It was the first crack Golden had let himself show Elliot, in his ivory-and-gold façade: it was the first time Golden had shown Elliot that Golden wished to be known. Elliot appreciated that Golden wanted to be friends. He wondered what hurts Golden’s world had inflicted on him, and how they were different from the wounds the world had inflicted on Elliot, and Serene, and even Luke. Elliot hoped he would get to know Golden better."- In Other Lands

So in the Sunday Morning Transcript Q&A @sarahreesbrennan said that Golden would be a game changer for the group and I 100% see that.

One the biggest changes I could see happening is helping Elliot shoulder the emotional burden he takes on within the Luke, Serene, Elliot trio.

Tormenting their beloveds while maintaining a valid position is right up their alley.

One of the things that Elliot has over Serene and Luke is that he's more emotionally mature than they are, now that might be surprising but it's actually true. It comes down to society and personal experience. Elliot has had to self parent, self reflect, self examine and try to empathize with others because of his upbringing. He grew up with a neglectful, alcoholic, emotional abusive father whose moods dominated and dictated his home life. He may be awkward and clumsy but he's still capable of great empathy because he had to navigate a messed up situation.

After Adam sexually harassed him (rereading it its quite harrowing, one has to wonder what would have happened if Culaine had not been there? ) He tells Luke about it, now admittedly in not the best way but to be honest that may be a case of adrenaline and trauma making him adopt a casual attitude about it. Unfortunately Luke handles it poorly and Elliot becomes contrite. Even when Luke learns the truth he does not redress the issue with Elliot and even uses it as an excuse to not tell Elliot about his sexuality. Elliot is also really sorry about how he handled the news. But notice at no point does Luke attempt to navigate the emotionally fraught issues at play here, largely leaving it to Elliot to sooth HIS feelings. (I'll get back to this). Yes he broke Adam's nose but Elliot doesn't know that he's been avenged and to be fair it's more satisfying for Luke than Elliot cause he's still going to feel victimized and not believed. Notice Elliot doesn't really talk about it again and when Serene and Elliot are about to be intimate she says some very uncomfortable things about Elliot essentially being a seducer and that whatever happens will be his fault(and look Serene is great and improves from this but DAMN that was rough to read). And Jace in and of itself is just fraught with questions about consent but again Elliot is retriggered when Jace basically says that Elliot should be flattered he was harassed by Adam cause he's hot and Elliots father is indifferent to his teenage Son in a relationship with an adult. I think Elliot pursuing a relationship with Myra after all of this was a form of self love honestly cause Myra is a sweetheart. What's clear from Adaras attitude, Lukes attitude and Serenes attitude, Sex Ed in the Borderlands is woefully inept and the topic of consent is non existant. Adara only recognized that what happened with Luke and her was not OK because of her personal experience with folks not respecting her boundaries not from a societal understanding of it. I think that's why Luke can't wrap his mind around the seriousness of Elliots complant about Adam and why when he does Kiss Elliot himself he DOESN'T ASK FIRST, keep in mind at that point Elliot had rejected him and shut down any attempts at flirting, from his POV in Wings he KNOWS that based on context Elliot has made it clear he does not want to be with Luke romantically and Luke (whose brought Elliot to a treehouse Elliot can't leave and is surrounded by a battlefield and is relying on Luke for his safety) Kisses him anyway. Now Elliot is in to it cause things work out for Luke Sunborn but let's be honest it could have ended badly.

When Serene's mother calls Elliot a slut Serene is angry but when her mother rejects Luke as her sword sister she becomes livid and argues with her. Interestingly she does not defend Elliots honor with the same enthusiasm. It's Luke she passionately defends. And after they break up she and Luke do make comments on Elliots 'loose' appearance and slut shame him. They also chat about their crushes in front of him without considering that this might bum him out. Serene only stops when she notices Luke is sad and Elliot has to explain that talking about ones love life in front of single friends is kinda crappy for them. And when Serene realizes this applied to Elliot and her face becomes distraught he immediately plays down his own feelings to comfort her. @pap3r-cr0wn refers to the Elven society in IOL as a Gynopatricarchy and I'm going to refer to it as well because it's not really a Matriarchal society ( women are in charge but toxic masculinity is still being valued and upheld, ex: repression of emotions and violence as held up). Which is why she defends Luke over Elliot because Lukes skill at arms is more societally valuable and valiant than Elliots sexual freedom to the Gynopatricarchy and the patriarchy for that matter. It's the Joan of Arc/Madonna/Artemis vs Aphrodite/Magdelene/whore thing she attributes to Golden and Luke vs Elliot. Also Luke can publicly defend himself as a warrior whereas Elliot has no way of defending the things said about him.

After Adara and Natalie basically disrespect his existence after his one night stand, he shoves aside his hurt because he learns that Adara is suffering from unrequited love and as someone who grew up in a household where unrequited love destroyed his childhood he immediately privileges Adaras hurt over his own and immediately assures her.

After his mother coldly rejects him for the second time in his life he shoves his desire to unload on Luke who has come over to complain about his mom. But when Luke is in a similar emotional state he deliberately finds Elliot to unload on him.

This is sort of a pattern of his too, when he's clearly confused over his attraction to Elliot after the play, when Elliot tells him hes interested in Myra, Luke rants about how Elliots mean and forced him to do the play (which he technically didnt) but Elliot just snarks him through this tantrum. And when he has his other tantrum in his cabin he mentions that Elliot didn't remember his name...which Luke should not get to complain about that, given his excellent memory his inability to learn names is a choice not something he can't help. I love Luke but I think in some ways he buys into his good guy persona cause when he recounts things in his cabin he deliberately leaves out the fact that he also didn't consider Elliot a friend and that he never remembers people's names and that he hasn't always been nice to Elliot either. And the burden of forcing himself to play that role causes Lukes tantrums because if he just let himself be an asshole like Elliot he'd feel better across the board.

Another thing Elliot does is become obsessed with everyone's romantic life, pairing them up and scheming to get them together. Why? Again it comes down to his mom and dad, if he takes control of everyone's romantic life they won't end up like his parents and he can exercise control over the situation unlike with his parents. He tries to help Luke get with Dale and he helps Serene with Golden. Interestingly they don't offer to reciprocate in helping with Elliots romantic life. For Serene it comes down to cultural issues and for Luke he's not good at this sort of thing. But it's also no surprise that privileged kids like Serene and Luke occupy the nurtured over nurturing position.

Now why are Luke and Serene like this?!

Well first it's privilege, both Serene and Luke occupy the top of their respective societies and they also have all the talents and abilities that are valued by their society. They are at the top of the food chain and anyone will tell you that people who are privileged have a tough time wrapping their heads around other people in a less privileged positions problems. They came from bonkers families but both of them had parents who love them and they have the love and admiration of those around them. More so Luke than Serene at the bordercamp.

The societies they grew up in are really problematic. Rachel Sunborn might be openminded but that's not the case for all of the Sunborns and Luke has ABSOLUTELY absorbed the closed minded attitude Humans have taken about OtherLand races.

This exchange basically encompasses everything wrong here:

"“Yeah,” Luke said, ignoring this byplay. “But come on, you can’t always trust dwarves.” Elliot gave him a look of withering scorn. Luke, used to it at this point, did not seem unduly affected. “You’re from the human world and maybe you don’t know,” he said. “But they’re—I mean, some of them are nice, obviously, I’ve met some very nice dwarves, but there’s a tendency to be a bit cunning? My dad says so.” “It’s true,” said Captain Briarwind, who was really young for a captain, a bit spotty, and had a distressing tendency to look heroworshipfully at Luke. “They’re a low and cunning folk.” He did not seem to be making a pun. “They’d lie, cheat, and steal for gold.” Elliot could not believe that idiots like Captain Briarwind and Captain Whiteleaf got missions while Captain Woodsinger hardly ever did. Both Luke and Captain Briarwind seemed blissfully unaware that one of Elliot’s friends from council-training course, Myra, had dwarf blood. “Don’t either of you talk to me,” said Elliot, and stormed off."

To be fair Serene said something similar earlier when she's explaining the Borderlands to Elliot about the untrustworthniess of other races in the Borderlands.

The societies that Serene and Luke grew up in uphold violence, repression of emotion and soldierly obedience. It's also Anti-intellectual, when Lakelost expresses concern that Luke reads Michael Sunborn is quick to deny it because goodness forbid!

With these values and the discouragement from learning new ideas or getting to know other races, the idea of emotional intelligence and empathy would be squashed after all, how can war thrive with emotionally openminded soldiers?

The Harpy issue was an interesting case study with their group dynamic because for once Luke was experiencing what it's like to not occupy the top spot in society and he was also wrestling with his internalized xenophobia. And he basically sulked and threw a massive tantrum. To Elliots credit he was actually more gentle with Lukes emotions than Serene was during this situation and that's cause Serene whose had to tolerate human supremecy crap at camp for years has no sympathy for Lukes sulking. She's says to Elliot "Just because he is finding adjusting to a harpy lifestyle difficult does not mean he is allowed to mistreat his friends.” and I should point out (the Dale thing aside, which for the record, may have been a crappy thing to do but let's be honest, Luke and Dale weren't dating and Luke wasnt actually interested in him anyway and What Luke said to HIM was 100000% worse). Elliot shows remarkable empathy for what Lukes going through given that on a closer look its bit absurd, he's horrified at the Harpies brutality? He's a soldier, guaranteed he's seen worse and what is worse? He helped make those corpses, who cares if they are ritualistically scattered? First he's privledging human violence over other species violence when really violence is violence and its all down to internalized zenophobia. Also he does not take it out on Serene he deliberately goes after Elliot here and as i stated this is his partern he lets his anger boil over and its Elliot who is the target but unlike every other time where Elliot soothed him and took on the blame he fights back and Luke who is put off by the argument goes in for the kill blow and Elliot snaps. I think this is cause he thought it would be a fair fight, and what he doesn't realise is that it never was equal between he and Elliot. Elliot can annoy, but Luke can harm. We see in this situation that Serene is helping to shoulder the emotional burden but she still employs weaponized incompetence (a favourite tool of the patriarchy or Gynopatricarchy here to excuse their emotional incompetence and therefore force Elliot to handle more of the burden). The Borderlands humans are also under this macho belief too, even though Rachel is a strong female in Lukes life, Sunborn women are an exception and even Luke relationship with his father is warm but they have manly silences, its not as emotionally open as one would think in a modern father son relationship. Unbelievably Luke still expects Elliot to apologize to him first and when Elliot does he accepts it but at no point does it occur to him to wonder about the WHY, why did Elliot do what he did, what was it about this situation that sent Elliot to such a dark place? He just says well the other side sucks stay with me and Serene. Which is sweet in a ditzy way but clearly he's not capable of examining the emotional landscape of what happened the way Elliot could.

Now Luke and Serene are very nice people BUT it's quite clear that like most sheltered privileged people, that niceness itself is a privilege. For Elliot hes not nice but he is KIND and his hangups and his kindness are hard-won from a life of crap. And he has to navigate different emotional landscapes over the border from an informed disadvantage. For Luke and Serene they are operating from life being generally good and when it's not they can't cope as well as Elliot can.

Now to both Luke and Serenes credit they are different from those around them because they are open to learning. Serene joining the Bordercamp and enrolling in the council course shows that she's interested in broadening her mind and growing. And Luke does read and although he's struggling with his familys expectations (not in terms of skill but the whole Sunborn boldness) he does try to keep an open mind and will allow Elliot to wield his privilege for good and he wants to be a good person. He cares about Elliot and Serene and I think as time goes by he will start self examining a bit. Like every tantrum Lukes ever had, you could tell it was building up everytime and AGAIN if he dropped the nice guy act and let himself get mad he'd be less likely to blow up.

THE GOLDEN AGE

Golden has been calling Serene out on her crap from the start and Elliot is positively gleeful watching Serene freak out over not trodding on Goldens agency. And Golden talks about sneaking in Banned books in Elf Finishing school, I like that Elliot thinks Elf Finishing school sound splendid which I think he would do pretty well there. And in the quote at the start of the essay Golden is not only offering Elliot advice he also offers emotional insight and baring his own vulnerability as well. I think that Golden joining the group shifts the power balance but also the emotional burdens. Before this Elliot put up with some things because he was not secure in his relationship with them. But after the Harpy insident he can be more direct cause he is more secure, he can actually get mad at Serene and let her know it, like when she says that Elliot should let Luke down gently and calls out that Elliot hasn't liked Luke and Elliot snaps at her. Serene finds him and apologizes. @pap3r-cr0wn has a theory that Golden gave her a lecture on the nuisance of belligerent sexual tension and also minding her business about her friends relationships lol. But I think with the addition of Golden who is Serenes spouse and Elliot dating Luke they can demand that their partners be more openminded and emotionally mature. They also have more social capital within the group and Elliot is no longer outnumbered.

In Goldens experience with Elven society they would be treated as second tier and is under a lot more scrutiny and experiences a lot more repression than Serene and all the other female elves Elliots met. And Elliot considers what Golden has been through and wants to learn more. But its also an acknowledgement of Elliot that he finally has an ally, cause for Golden they would have been raised to be intuitive, gentle, intelligent and emotional, now Golden, and all the other elves really dont fit neatly into the gendered expectations that their society demands but his upbrining would at least allow him to cultivate those traites that Elliot also values. The final mention of Golden in IOL has Elliot and Golden leaning their heads together over the pros and cons list Golden made about different fortresses. I think we can see that they are really close and as SRB mentioned in the Q&A that an event will make them even closer and I hope so cause Elliot deserves to have a best friend outside of the trio.

One last thing about consent being taught in the Borderlands, in TWTBD Mark talks about consent in regards to what happened to Illyria. Now he does care about treating Ladies properly but this understanding of sexual assault feels like another Elliotism that he parrots throughout the story. I think Elliot is making sure the Sex Ed taught to his students is inclusive and covers things that they need to know like consent.

The Fall

Hello everyone!

Bringing more of Jash!Heart

This time with something a little closer to the present time-line

If you saw my last post about my design of Heart

You may know that I gave him wings with a galaxy theme

But that was the wings of Past!Heart

The Heart of the present have much different wings

So let me you a little bit of backstory about his new wings

The moment when Heart received his first wings, was rather surprising, Heart was constantly feeling a tingling sensation on his back for days, it wasn't painful in the slightest, more than anything it felt like someone was tickling his back, this would even sometimes bring Heart into a laughing fit

Until finally during one night his feathers wings sprouted

After this occurrence, many things started to change with the trio

And this changes didn't sit well with all them

This started many fights between them

Some even being about extremely idiotic things

Things end up escalating over the time

The stress as getting into Heart, causing some of his feathers to fall

At first he simply assumed it was molting, since some of them were growing back

But that excuse didn't last long, he started to experience extreme pain on his back and wings, especially on the bones

But them everything got worse after Heart was sent away to Apathy for trying to shoot at Mind

His feathers were falling constantly without growing back, as well the back pain was getting unsustainable, it felt like bones were moving out of place and creating new ones as well

Heart spent multiple days like this, until his new wings were done

Now with big and dark looking bat wings

Without the light of his stary wings, Heart's eyes had to adapt to the darkness of Apathy, making him have his now night vision

But in consequence Heart can't handle light on his eyes at all, so he uses his blindfold to protect them

Of course, Heart didn't stay on Apathy forever

Someone finally decided to see the emotional side, completely unaware of the physical changes and behaviors caused by the multiple weeks of isolation that Heart went through

The visitor even less aware of Heart's hype sensibility towards light, this making the visitor do a mistake he'll carry forever and new fear would be Born within.

Chapter One - Old Journals

Draco Malfoy x Ravenclaw Fem! Reader

Concept: I'm a huge fan of The Mummy movies from 1999 & 2001. I wanted a fun, adventure, action-packed, and slightly comedic mashup filled with magic and love. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Summary: In an alternate universe Voldemort was officially defeated by Harry Potter during his first year at Hogwarts. The world of Witches and wizards has finally known peace. While the golden trio has not so many big grand adventures a Ravenclaw student, Y/n Constantine, with help from her childhood friend Draco Malfoy, stumble on a discovery of a lifetime. She enlists the help of her classmates and friends. Hermione Granger, one of the best witches she knows, and Luna Lovegood one of her roommates and a very insightful person. Where this artifact will take them they don't know. Will friendships evolve into something more? Or will tensions between the group come in the way of the answers? Will Hermione punch Draco in the face again? maybe Will Luna make out-of-pocket comments? probably Will the quest change them or will the quest change the world?

Y/n POV

Summer had come and gone all too soon but just as summer came to an end, a new school year filled with excitement was about to begin you thought as you slowly sat up in your bed. This would be the start of your fifth year at Hogwarts and you were beyond excited to see your friends again. Though you lived not too far from some of them, that didn't mean you didn't miss seeing them every day.

As you got out of bed a familiar owl tapped on your bedroom window. Making your way over to the window you let the eagle owl in as he drops a letter for you. Smiling you pick up the letter and give the eagle owl a snack before it flies off.

The envelope is black with a green wax seal with the Malfoy family crest pressed into the wax, Draco. He was your friend and neighbor since you were small but despite 'the prince' of Slytherin's' tough and arrogant persona he was still that kind-hearted kid you used to play with all those years ago. You opened the letter and began to read it.

The letter reads:

Y/n,

Meet me in my mother's garden as soon as you can, I found something in the library that might be worth looking into regarding your favorite subject. I know that clever mind of yours can't say no to a puzzle like the one I've found. See you soon Pegasus.

PS. I know you'll meet Granger at Platform 9¾ tomorrow but please don't tell that know it all about this. Don't want her telling Potter and Weasbee.

You sighed as Draco was indeed your favorite troublemaker despite his attitude towards some of your friends, especially Hermione Granger. You thought back to your first adventures with Draco as you got ready for the day. You met each other around the age of five when you moved from London to Wiltshire after your grandmother passed. Your parents’ inherited the family mansion, the house seemed gigantic as a child when you first moved in but once you met Draco the house turned into a stage for great adventures.

You smiled at the memory of meeting Draco the first time, it was one day late spring after you finally finished moving into the mansion. Mr. And Mrs. Malfoy came over and introduced themselves while Draco held onto his mother’s hand tightly till he saw you. Both your parents smiled as you invited Draco to come play while your parents talked about things going on within the Ministry of Magic.

Things were simpler back then as little kids. You'd both spend most of your summers exploring each other's mansions, reading in the libraries what you could, and having your 'Adventures' in the gardens. You smiled at the memories as you started to get ready. You put on a pair of dark grey shorts, a black tank top, and a denim jacket with your black ankle boots. You looked at yourself in the mirror and smiled to yourself as you put on some light makeup and French braided your h/c hair. Taking a deep breath as you stand up from your vanity and grab your messenger bag putting it on your shoulder. Making your way downstairs you grabbed two green apples from the kitchen island and made your way towards Malfoy Manor.

Draco's POV

It was a little over a half hour since Draco sent Y/n that letter. She would come over to see what he had found, she always did when it could be a new adventure for them. But this time something felt different about this one. He was pacing in the kitchen as one of the house elves prepared breakfast for Draco and Narcissa.

"Draco darling, please sit and eat. You're gonna make the floor warp from all your pacing" Narcissa said as she watched her son pace anxiously.

"Sorry, Mum. It's just that Y/n is coming over soon and I have to tell her about a puzzle I found." Draco said quietly as he sat down across from his mother at the kitchen table. His mother smiled at him as one of the house elves put breakfast on the table.

"Y/n is an extraordinary girl," Narcissa said as she started eating breakfast, "And a pretty one too," she said while smiling at her son.

"Yeah she is," Draco said as a blush formed on his cheeks before he realized what he said, "I mean she is pretty but she's just a friend mum," he said trying to change the subject.

"Right, a friend who is a girl who is closer to you than that one girl you briefly dated last year. What was her name again? Patrica? Piper? Prudence?" Narcissa said teasing her son about his developing feelings for Y/n.

"Pansy mum. She started dating Blaise this summer," He said as he groaned thinking about his short relationship with Pansy that turned out to be nothing other than friends. He was happy for his friends' relationship but he wondered if his friendship with Y/n was just a friendship.

"Ah yes, Pansy. She and Blaise will make a cute couple," she says looking at how her son reacted to her teasing, "Now what is this puzzle you want to show Y/n?", she said after taking a sip of her tea and looking at her son who had barely touched his food.

"Well you know how Y/n is practically obsessed with Merlin and Morgan le Fay's history," Draco said as he looked out the kitchen window smiling as he continued, "I may have found something referencing Merlin but it's in a code," he said as he saw Y/n slowly making her way to the manor.

"Another one of your little quests," Narcissa said referring to how the two would make up 'quests' when they were younger as she looked out the window she saw Y/n opening the back gate. "Well, I'll let you two start your new adventure," she said as she got up and took their plates to the sink.

Y/n POV

Walking up to the gate of Malfoy Manor you felt a bit of excitement as you slowly opened the large gate. You saw Draco in the kitchen window talking with his mother as you slowly made your way through the huge backyard. You always liked Draco's mother Narcissa, she always made you feel welcome whenever you and Draco hung out despite Lucius not wanting you around much since you called him out on his pureblood bullshit.

"Ah Ms. Constantine to what do I owe the pleasure of you visiting this morning," Lucius said coldly as he looked at you from his table under a willow tree.

"Good Morning Mr. Malfoy. Draco had something he wanted to show me so I came over as soon as could," you said trying to sound your normal pleasant self which was hard since Lucius Malfoy made your blood boil most times.

"Draco is in the kitchen with his mother, Good day Ms. Constantine," He said as he simply waved you off as he picked up his cup of tea, and the Daily Prophet completely uninterested in you.

"Good day," you said as you continued making your way to the garden which was past the kitchen you started to calm down.

Despite being friends with Draco for so long and knowing the Malfoy's for most of your life you could never get used to Lucius Malfoy's attitude and cold demeanor. Thankfully unlike her husband, Narcissa enjoyed you and was pleasant and kind, unlike her husband. As you walked past one of the kitchen windows you saw Narcissa talking with the house elves. She was much kinder to the house elves and treated them as if they were people rather than servants. As you continued on you saw Draco pacing as he had a few books on the small garden table.

"You know if you keep pacing like that the grass will stop growing Draco," you chuckled as you walked up to the pacing boy scaring him out of his thoughts.

"Bloody Hell Y/n you scared me," Draco said as he looked at you and clenched his chest as some of his hair fell over his eyes.

"Well it's your fault you were too deep in your thoughts that you didn't notice me," you said as you threw him an apple before taking a bite of your own, "Now what do you have for me to solve," smirking as you watched Draco catch the apple and smile at you.

"Good morning to you too," smiling as he took a bite of the apple, "So I was looking through the library since my father bought another old book collection. I looked through them and found that a few books were written entirely in some code."

"Some code or just Old English," you took out a magnifying glass from your bag before setting the bag down beside one of the chairs.

"Very Funny Y/n. But Old English I can translate. This is something beyond my skill level, surprisingly," Draco said a bit annoyed as he watched you examine the text carefully line by line.

"Surprisingly," you chuckle as you continue to examine the text.

As you examined the text it was indeed in some form of code but none that you have seen before. In the past few years while at Hogwarts, you developed a reputation of being one of the best 'code breakers' and helped translate books and texts for some extra credit for Professor Binns. After looking over the first couple of pages you take a notebook out and start writing down a few sentences and phrases. This was definitely one of the harder codes to crack but several words seemed to repeat creating a pattern in the code.

~After a few hours and several breaks later. ~

You close your notebook in excitement as you look up at Draco beaming with joy.

"You found something?" he said as he knew that smile meant you had figured out part of the puzzle.

"Maybe, these other two books are the same code?" looking at the other books around the same size but instead of being tome, they were older looking as if from the early 10th century which was most likely magically preserved.

"Well that's the thing," he said as he reached past you to pick up one of the leather-bound books, "I think these are journals," opening the book you see a neat handwriting that was oddly similar to a few books in the restricted section.

"Draco where did your father get these again?" looking up at the boy who was so close you could feel his breath on you as you looked up to those gray eyes.

"He didn't, unfortunately," Draco said as he looked at those e/c eyes of yours and smiled, "But if you look here," he opened to the last page of the one journal where there was a name on the bottom left corner.

"Merlin.." you said as if you couldn't believe what your own eyes were seeing as this was one of the journals of Merlin himself. "Draco you need to bring these wit-"

"Me to Hogwarts so that you can research it more and figure out what actually happened to Merlin this could be one of the biggest discoveries of all wizard kind," he said smiling as he closed both books, "I'm way ahead of you Pegasus, as always."

"I wouldn't say always, Dragon," dropping the nickname you gave him when you were younger and found out about his namesake. Just as he did when he found out your birthday coincided with the constellation Pegasus. Both of you smiled at each other as you packed up your bag again.

"So will you be on the train with Granger, Pottah, and Weasbee tomorrow?" he asked cautiously and dryly as he watched you pack up your stuff not wanting you to go just yet.

"Do I sense a hint of jealousy from the 'prince' of Slytherin? Because green is your color after all." teasing your best friend as you finish packing up turning to look at him as his arms are now crossed and he's looking at you with a mix of jealousy, anger, and hurt in his eyes. You always hated to see when he got like this but you suppose that's what happens when your father is a prick.

"Draco," you said softly as you walked up to him taking one of his hands, "We can sit together on the train after I say hello to Minoe and Luna. Plus we can look at these journals more. If you can sneak them out of the Manor," you say trying to calm him down.

"Taking them to Hogwarts will be easy, unlike avoiding Weasbee and Granger's arguments all year. I still don't know why you are friends with that bloo-," Draco stopped himself before saying something he knew you'd hate him for, "Bloody idiot." he said as he looked away.

"Well, I mean it comes with being friends with Mione. I can normally tolerate Ron but lately, it's just weird," looking down at the ground you think about how the train ride at the end of the year felt strange.

"I know how much you can't stand the tension between Granger and Weasbee as of late. You told me that much," chuckling as holds your hand gently thinking back to your hour-long rant.

It was true that Hermione and Ron had some weird tension between each other since the Yule Ball. Some kind of jealousy sparked in Ron whenever Hermione was around Viktor Krum. Now every time Hermione gets close to another boy Ron calls her out. It was driving you insane how dense Ron actually was.

"I just wish Minoe could tell that thick-headed boy how she felt about him. It's so obvious that the whole school can see it," you say as you look at how you are holding hands with Draco and blush a bit.

"Weasbee is as dense as they come especially when he tried to hex me with that broken wand," he says as he starts laughing which in turn makes you laugh.

"Stop it that was terrible for Ron," giggling as you playfully hit him on the shoulder.

"The number of slugs that he," Draco couldn't get the words out as he continued laughing.

You both stood there laughing for a bit as you remembered the slug incident. You remembered also how confused Draco was as you yelled at him for calling Hermione a 'mud blood'. From that day on anything he said about blood status was almost always followed by you yelling at him about how outdated those views were. And after almost 4 months of yelling and lecturing him, Draco started to think differently. As both of you eventually regained the ability to speak again you remembered that you still needed to pack.

"Shit, I gotta go pack," letting go of Draco's hand and giving him a small hug. "I'll see you tomorrow Draco."

"See you tomorrow Y/n." He smiled as he hugged you before he watched you walk home.
