one other thing that really makes me roll my eyes in dc fics is the insistence that the bats can take down anyone, even their most op teammates. like... you guys know a character doesn't have to be the most physically capable one in the room in order to be interesting or strong in their own right, right? look me in the eye. cass had to save tim from shrike. bane broke bruce's back. mind-controlled kon snapped tim's arm like a twig. trying to make them ~always~ able to counter even the most powerful opponents is so boring im sorry like they can and do lose fights sometimes, and that's interesting actually. they are all incredibly competent martial artists, yes! that doesn't mean they can win every single matchup. that's simply neither the point of nor the strength in their characters.
I don't know just where I'm going
But I'm gonna try for the kingdom, if I can
'Cause it makes me feel like I'm a man
When I put a spike into my vein
And I'll tell ya, things aren't quite the same
When I'm rushing on my run
And I feel just like Jesus son (x)
the original. “rama,” i hear you ask, “why is the original on its side?” Well, being that I’m on xbox, I’ve found that the only way i can get the uh, je ne sais quoi sort of dimensions I’d like, i have to rotate the camera by a full 90 degrees, which you can imagine looks very stupid as I then have to lay on the couch or tilt my head at an angle that my twenty nine year old neck doesnt really appreciate
But Ringo’s Sentimental Journey is utterly charming.
We really should talk more about how he turns to this project as therapy as the band is falling apart. It’s pure nostalgia in a bottle but with Ringo jazz drumming and just having fun with it singing and adding these cute little improv bits. Blues Turning Grey Over You is a highlight for the “I just lost myself there, child!” laugh at the end.
It’s all utterly charming.
It’s a really cool collaboration too. He recruited different musicans arrange each piece (including Paul, who arranged Stardust, perhaps before the breakup drama heats up). George Martin produces and gets the big band together. They start recording more sporadically at first, starting Oct 1969. Night and Day, Stormy Weather (which got left off the final album but I love he tried it), Stardust, and Dream, all recorded before Christmas. The rest are Jan-Mar 1970.
It gets ripped to shreds by the rock cred sector. But Ringo using this as a grief project, sorta returning to childhood in the midst of a blow for comfort, feels more honest and healthy than he gets credit for. It’s also brassy af. This is the height of “fuck jazz,” and Ringo’s just like “so what? I’ll do what I like.”
George said he liked it. John slagged him off for it in interviews, but I bet he secretly liked it too. Not sure whether Paul ever commented on it given the dual release drama. He does his own standards album decades later, after it becomes a thing artists do. But when Ringo does it in 1970? No one was doing that.
It continues to give me the warm fuzzies that basically every person at work has said they'll miss me. And it's not really utility, even if I'm useful; I am not in a critical position. There are many people who can do the things I do, even if the majority are less experienced. I'm not management, or a lynchpin, just a long-time worker bee.
But people like me, and I just handled a Crisis Situation well enough that the AD took the time to personally thank me, and my manager was like 'not only am I willing to be a reference you can use my personal phone number if that's easier' and even some of the newest additions said they're going to miss me on desk, and I just.
I love my job and my coworkers and it's really nice that the people there know it and love me back.
like a month ago I had a dream awake and very high that the reason The Division Bell "isn't about Roger" is because it's secretly the real sequel to The Wall and all the songs are about Pink's story from the perspective of his bandmates as they watch him deteriorate, which I'm 94% sure isn't true but once you get that in your head you can't unhear it
I tend to look at the Batkids as ‘they’re family but not due to Bruce’. Bruce isn’t all of their dad, or even parental figure - not even close. He’s Jason’s dad, is consistently referred to as so, so I think Jason’s really the only one who sees it as clear cut as that. For Dick, Tim, and Cass, I’d argue while he’s a father figure he’s not really their ‘dad’ dad, if that makes sense. They’ve all kinda had issues with that because Tim and Dick didn’t want to replace their fathers and Cass was almost an adult by the time she and Bruce met, so while there is a parent child thing going on, it’s not as ‘ah yes my Dad’ as Jason. For Steph and Duke, while he kinda fulfills some level of a parental role (ik he never had any legal guardianship over Steph but their relationships with him feel similar, actually no he was way shittier to Steph but whatever he and Duke will probably have a conflict at some point), he’s not their dad, nope, no way. Babs ngl she was his mentee and now she’s like ‘jesus fuck Bruce I am THIS CLOSE-’ Ngl Damian is the most obviously bc he’s... literally... his dad... and even then Dick tends to do more of the actual parenting so LMAO NICE.
Basically what I mean is the Batkids are siblings but Bruce isn’t their dad, or not all their dad. It’s not centered around him and I think that’s very sexy of them.

I keep seeing a little of what the entire internet sees in Astarion and I am interested in seeing more of that person but every time you get a glimpse of it he immediately covers it up by being an insufferable jackass. Whenever I replay I'll have to put up with enough of the jackass to see more of the other person, but he makes it really hard to want to interact with him for that long.
i follow a ton of korean fans of hypmic too and today i learned that saburo calls ichiro ‘ichi-hyung’ in korean and just about fell to the floor where i stood lol
Only a beautiful soul could've written "In a big country dreams stay with you/Like a lover's voice fires the mountainside/Stay alive," and said "Kudos to you" to the audience during live performances of the song and emphasized and generally expressed a sincere wish that everyone taking some special, personal significance away from the song and its lyrics would, actually, stay alive.
y’know it really is insane that peter and carl wrote such a romantic song as waterloo about each other so early on, like barely over a year of knowing each other
but also i wonder what it must have been like for them to return to it in 2014
