i have an ask in my inbox about veritas and his opinion for nous not looking to him and i will answer it with time maybe after the events of 2.1 but today i was playing hsr and i stumbled on all of ratio's notes and the second note talks about how he discourages ambitious pursuits by naive researchers since they're unaware of the danger the truth possesses. this alongside his text sign off being " there's no rush " got me thinking that despite his character story showing his derisive reaction to unattaining a position in the genius society that he's willing to wait and has the patience. it could also be an indication that he may have suffered the fate he wishes the mediocre scientists can avoid but that might be too much of a stretch. he is at the end of the day still human and with human comes feelings you cannot deny. which is why veritas is undoubtedly affected by the unrecognition but he still pursues. whether this is hypocritical or that he does it within the boundaries of taking his time and doing it in a manner with the least repercussions is up to interpretation.

The tufts of hair growing in on the sides of Jake’s head was evident of the time going by.
It has been two months since Grace, Jake, and Norm had become your roommates. Things have been a bit better. Jake and Norm weren’t arguing as much anymore. Grace must’ve said something to him to get him to cooperate. He was still a bit snippy some days but there were a lot less fights now.
The relationship between you and Jake had become better as well. You had officially become his language tutor since Norm opted out of it and Jake for some reason preferred you as a teacher rather than the former. You guessed it was to get on your nerves, which wasn’t all that farfetched.
But the good news was that he was getting better with the Na’vi training. And it seemed that he was getting closer and closer to becoming one of the Omatikaya.
Jake pushed away from the table after finishing his breakfast and rolled toward his link bed. You followed him, still eating some of your cereal.
“Alrighty, are you actually ready this time?” You asked as he hoisted himself up into the bed.
“Yep, for the fourth time today.” Jake smirked up at you as he placed his legs onto the bed.
“Mhmm, you said that last time and you spent hours ranting about the direhorses you kept falling off of.” You poked at his ears. “Are you ready to listen?” You kept poking at the side of his head, “Because I’m pretty sure your teacher isn’t as patient as I am with you, Puppet.”
He swatted your hand away, “Why don’t you just come with me? Make sure I’m learning, professor.”
“Funny.” You rolled your eyes before closing the link bed up and connecting him to his avatar. “Good luck, idiot.”
Jake met up with Neytiri as usual that day. She told him they would continue riding direhorses today and keep trying until he managed to stay on. It was embarrassing falling off of it every time but at least you weren’t there to witness it.
Instead of you witnessing it though, it was Tsu’tey, who had decided to come and watch Neytiri’s progress in training Jake.
And of course, the man had to laugh when Jake once again fell off the damn direhorse. “Training this demon is pointless!” Tsu’tey sneered down at Jake from his own horse, obviously trying to prove that compared to him he was practically a baby or useless. “He can’t even stand upright!”
“Quiet, Tsu’tey!” Neytiri muttered with a roll of her eyes, “You are being distracting.”
Tsu’tey scoffed, raising his chin higher as he scowled at Jake, “I feel only pity for you. Having to train this fool.”
Jake pushed himself to his feet, about done with the warrior’s taunting. “Sorry to disappoint you, brother.”  Neytiri looked surprised and Tsu'tey scowl only grew uglier when they realized Jake just spoke in Na’vi. And pretty well at that. Jake smirked victoriously as he continued in English. “I am still learning but if you’re such a tough guy, why don’t you train me instead?”
Neytiri smacked his arm, “Stop it! You are in no place to challenge him, you skxawng!”
“Well, he says I’m still a baby, why don’t I show him what I’ve learned?” Jake knew he was being stupid and maybe a little too hard headed at the moment. But really, he couldn’t care less. He was tired of Tsu’tey taunting him and not being able to do a thing about it. He then hissed to Neytiri in Na’vi, “And I may be a skxawng but he’s a dickhead—”
“Hey! Demon!” Tsu’tey hopped down from his direhorse.
Jake squared his shoulders, “What now?”
Neytiri stepped between them, giving Tsu’tey a leveled and intense look, “Don’t start.”
Tsu’tey didn’t respond to her but he didn’t move any closer either. Now that Jake was actually looking at him, he realized Tsu’tey looked curious and a little irritated. “So you speak our language now, huh? Who taught you? You didn’t speak like that days ago!”
Jake furrowed his brows, “I’m not a master at it, like I said I’m still learning—”
“No.” Tsu’tey narrowed his eyes at him. What was this guy’s problem? “Who taught you?”
“How do you know Neytiri didn’t?” Jake questioned, not wanting to give your name away to this guy. He’d probably start coming at you if he did.
Neytiri glanced between the two of them before replying cautiously, “The way you speak. It reminds us of—”
Tsu’tey suddenly stalked away, surprising them both as he hopped back on the direhorse. He said something else in Na’vi toward Neytiri. Jake didn’t recognize the words that well enough but he was sure one of them were “she” and “still there” Then he rode off and left them alone in the forest.
“What’s his problem?” Jake asked, watching the spot where Tsu’tey just was curious.
“It is nothing.” Neytiri shook her head but there was something unreadable in her expression. It was the first time Jake had seen something so foreign on the woman’s face it almost made him want to pry more. But Neytiri was smacking his arm and scowling at him again, “Come. Let us continue. We are wasting daylight.”
“So, how’d it go?” You hear Grace ask Jake when you stepped out of your lab for the day. Really, you were surprised that Jake was back while the sun was still up in the sky. Usually, he’d come back at night, sometimes toward dawn.
Jake sat up with a grunt, “You know, falling on my ass as usual. Nothin’ new.”
“Hmm, well go ahead and log it all. While it’s still fresh.” Grace gestured to one of the cameras as she went toward the fridge.
He stared at her in disbelief and exhaustion, “Seriously?”
“Mhmm, while it’s still fresh, Sully.” Grace then noticed you and frowned, “Stop standing there in the dark  like a creep and help me make some dinner, Tinkers.”
“I’m not being a creep.” You mumble before walking over toward the little stove. “All we have is beans, I hope you like that.”
Jake shrugged as he got himself into his wheelchair, “I’m okay with beans.”
“Norm, what about you?” Grace called toward the back where the cots were. There was a grunt in reply. “Sounds like a yes to me.”
In the next hour, you and Grace have fixed dinner just as Jake had finished up with his log. Despite the reason for him actually being here, you had to admit that he was improving, especially with the Na’vi language. It’s still a slow process but, you had at least gotten him to be able to hold a conversation.
“How is the village?” You ask him as the three of you ate at the table. Norm was still in the back sulking despite Grace calling him to dinner multiple times. Jake looked at you curiously when you addressed him in Na’vi. You smirked, “In order for you to get better, I have to keep you on your toes, Sully.”
Jake smiled at you, eyes twinkling. “The village is beautiful. The people are still warming up to me but…” He switched to English when his eyes glazed over in thought. “It’s like a whole other world, you know? I almost feel like they’re slowly starting to accept me.”
There was this look on his face when he talked about the Na’vi. You’ve started to notice it as of recently. It wasn’t a look of indifference anymore but instead it was soft, almost fond, and maybe longing. Perhaps you were reading too much into things, perhaps Grace’s hope in him was beginning to naively rub off on you.
Grace ruffled your hair with a grin, “Looks like you make a great teacher, Tinkers.” You gave a sheepish smile, swatting her hand away. “Even after all these years, you’re still a great teacher, you know?”
Jake now looked at you curiously, “You were a teacher? At Grace’s school?”
You cringed and shook your head, “No, no, I was just her assistant.”
“She filled in for me on days when I couldn’t be there.” Grace continued boasting. “The kids adored her, sometimes I feel like they favored you over me.”
“Stop it, Augustine.” You try to scold but the smile on your face couldn’t be fought. Jake laughed at your expression, almost adoringly. You continue quietly, “I hardly did a thing.”
Grace rolled her eyes, “Quit being humble, you know you like the praise.”
Your face grew warm as you avoided both their gazes, “Whatever—can we just eat, please?” Jake was still glancing at you curiously and you sighed, “What?”
“So you do have an avatar somewhere?” He nodded his head around the space, “You keepin’ it hidden?”
“Maybe. What’s it to you?”
Grace got up, “Alright you two, enough flirting. Tinkers, help me clean this mess up—”
“Um, holy shit!” All three of you turned your heads to find Norm, who had crawled out of his sulking hole, staring out the window next to the kitchenette. “I think someone’s here to see us.”
You furrowed your brows as Grace rushed toward the window as well, her jaw going slack, “Holy fuck…”
“What?” You asked, now standing.
Jake rolled away from the table and appeared next to you, “Who’s out there?”
Grace looked to you, eyes alight, “It’s Mo’at. She’s here!”
You froze, unsure of what you had heard until Grace started rushing around to find a mask for both her and you. Once Grace forced one in your hands, that’s when you snapped out of your daze and realized what she said was actually true. Before putting your mask on, you caught a glimpse out the window to indeed see wings from an ikran.
Grace yanked your arm and dragged you outside to greet your visitors. The sun was beginning to set and your eyes cleared when you saw the familiar Tsahik standing before you. And next to her was someone you hadn’t seen in years, not since the fall of Grace’s school.
“So this is where you have been hiding?” Mo’at addressed Grace first. You had forgotten how small you were compared to the Na’vi, it had been so long since you even stood next to one.
Your eyes then landed on Tsu’tey who was already looking at you. “Tsamsiyu.” You called him. “It has been a long time.'' You tapped two fingers against your heart twice. “Two hearts. One beat.”
He mimicked you, tapping his fingers against his chest. “Tsmuke.” Tsu’tey huffed but there was a glimpse of familiarity between you two, “I thought I was losing my mind.” He crossed his arms and raised a brow, “So you are teaching that demon our language.”
You mirror his posture, “How else is he supposed to fit in?”
“I rather not have an outsider in the clan that I would lead one day.” Tsu’tey huffed but his malic wasn’t toward you. “He is too much of a demon to ever be considered Na’vi.”
“Aah, don’t be harsh.” You sighed, glancing toward Grace and Mo’at who were also in a conversation between each other. You looked over your shoulder back at the station to find both Norm and Jake watching from the window. Jake frowning once your eyes locked briefly. You turned back to Tsu’tey, “I was once a demon to you. I am a demon.”
Tsu’tey frowned, face softening just a bit, “You were different. You are different.”
A part of you wanted to protest this but you saw no use in arguing over something that pointless, “Well, this demon is saying the other demon is not that bad. Give him a little chance? For me?”
He did not give you a response right away when Mo’at announced that they were leaving now. You noticed in the corner of your eye that Grace was smiling and even through the mask her eyes were a lot brighter. Mo’at was the first to leave on her ikran after giving you a quiet acknowledging nod.
Tsu’tey got on his and was just about to take off as well, “You owe me a fight, tsmuke!” And then he took off into the night.
For a moment, you watched as he got smaller the further he flew away until Grace pulled at your arm, a grin on her face, “Tinkers! Did you hear?”
“What?” You furrow your brows at her.
“We get to go to the village. She’s allowed us back.”
You were so startled that no words had come out of your mouth. Not even when Grace rushed back inside the station with you trailing behind, still in disbelief. It wasn’t until Norm closed the door and you reluctantly took off your mask did you find the words. “Are you serious, Grace?”
Instead of responding to you, Grace turned to Jake who was already watching you. He seemed to do that a lot, you realized. “What did you do?”
You met Jake’s eyes with a raised eyebrow before he responded, “I, um, I convinced Mo’at to allow the two of you back. I honestly didn’t think she would actually consider it.”
Grace looked on in disbelief as she sat in the chair, “Son of a bitch. I think you just replaced Tinkers as my favorite.”
You snapped your head toward her, “Wait—I was your favorite—hey no fair!”
“When you manage to top that, I’ll consider putting you back as my favorite.” Grace shrugged, an amused smile on her face. She then turned to Jake, “No but really, thank you.”
Jake nodded with a smile. You took a seat at the small table as well, still in disbelief. “Yeah, Puppet, thanks.”
He rolled over to the table, tilting his head out the window where you had been, “I didn’t know you knew Tsu’tey.”
“I met him around the time Grace’s school was open. Same with Neytiri and Mo’at.” You smiled softly, thinking back to those memories you never thought you’d ever look back at.
“So he was a student?” Norm asked while chowing down on his beans.
You shook your head, “He was around my age when we first met, so he would’ve been older than the children we taught.”
“You guys sounded close.” Norm pointed out thoughtfully.
You shrugged, “I guess we were in a way.”
“Mmm.” Jake responded quietly. Suddenly, he pushed away from the table, “I’m gonna head to bed.”
At the mention of bed, you suddenly felt the exhaustion finally catching up to you, causing you to stand as well, “Yeah, I should turn in too.” Grace was looking at you weirdly and Norm kept glancing from you to Jake. You furrow your brows, “What?”
Grace just shook her head as she walked toward the back where Jake had retreated, “You two are such idiots, honestly.”
You frown in confusion and look at Norm, “What’s that supposed to mean?”
He shrugged.

I played two games of Mario Party 9 not too long ago + a minigame mode!
First time through, I played as Bobby (Peach) with Hoppy, Kickin, and Picky (Daisy, Wario, and Birdo respectively). Kickin chose the board most likely (it was Blooper Beach anyways). So basically some interesting notes I picked up from that + potential hcs...
Kickin seems like he would be pretty good with minigames that require some skill. Bro literally got a perfect strike in Goomba Bowling. Funny enough, Picky also got a strike there- (she was determined ig). Ngl, Hoppy only got 13 points there, but I feel like she might've done better with that minigame (taking account the events that DID happen though, she probably was a little salty Kickin and Picky got it with that much ease-). Meanwhile Bobby didn't get any points. She tried copying what Kickin and Picky did, but... it didn't quite work out for her T^T
Okay, when it came to that and the previous minigame Player Conveyor, it made me think that Bobby isn't the best with certain minigames compared to others. She managed to get better in this round after the mini boss with Lakitu, though. (She struggled with that a little in the beginning but has pretty much gotten the hang of things by the time he was all mad and stuff-)
At one point, Kickin landed everyone on a 1v3 space and he picked the minigame Mob Sleds. I feel like, talking about characters here, he picked that thinking he wasn't going to get caught. But no joke- LITERALLY AT THE LAST SECOND BOBBY GOT TO HIM- Hoppy just dying laughing in the background and teasing Kickin when that happened. Picky was probably like, "Oh damn..." and Kickin is just sitting there with his jaw dropped like- "HOW?? HOW?!?!" (his ego got crushed there lol) Also, made me realize those Wario poses are literally him 💀
Tumblr media
By this point, Bobby has gotten a better hang of the minigames. She was likely more desperate to try to catch up at least since she was in last originally- The others are impressed but also probably like "Oh, now it is on!" with her lol (if we're talking character here, she may not be so desperate to the point she would make everyone else get in the path of Mini Ztars, which I feel bad about btw because that's literally what I made her do and then I was thinking back about that decision and made me realize that Bobby would've just taken the Mini Ztars for the party's benefit T^T Ig the excuse I could put here would be that she was desperate because she kept falling behind before)
She still didn't do THAT good with all the minigames though. Particularly Upward Mobility (she wasn't as fast with it as the others were; partially due to my own inability to win that minigame lmao). I think she also does the memory related ones well. She wouldn't have THAT good of a memory as Bubba ofc, but she did good in minigames such as Plunder Ground.
Btw, not only is Bobby a total tild card in the minigames, but she is also pretty much the group's savior. The second the event happened where Mini Ztars were filling the board she just happened to get the right number needed to reverse them back to Mini Stars. The group was probably relieved as heck when that happened-
HOPPY'S MINIGAME SHOWED UP AT ONE POINT :)) Unfortunately she didn't win though 😔 (she definitely would win that more going by character though) Kickin and Picky were neck and neck by the end, and Picky ended up beating him. He was pretty salty about that since he was sure he would win now that Hoppy's rocket fell behind (his ego recovered in that gap between Mob Sleds and Launch Break ig and now it cracked again lol). Bobby did lose ten mini stars from getting 4th this time tho since they got Launch Break through a Fire Bro battle minigame... (this is weird cuz like, you want to feel bad because she keeps getting the short end of the stick when she doesn't win. She got fourth in quite a few of the minigames where she didn't get first, but like- she's also doing very well with them at the same time 😶 She literally kept swapping between receiving 1st and 4th with BARELY an in between- Talking character though, I feel like she'd be more likely to get like 2nd or 3rd in minigames. When she loses though, OH BOY SHE LOSES-
By the homestretch, the party was getting more into the Bowser Spaces (not AS frequently as that one experience that was mentioned for a different round but it was still a lot). Mainly Kickin kept getting those spaces, and let's just say... my dude's got LUCKY with those! 2 times out of 3 he landed on giving mini stars to last place, but the thing is... HE IS IN LAST PLACE LMAO. HE JUST KEPT RECEIVING MINI STARS FROM BOWSER. Even in the one time Kickin didn't get that in the Bowser Roulette he still didn't lose Mini Stars. There was a reverse mini game at one point (Thwomper Room) and he WON. By that point, Kickin was just joking like- "BOWSER SURE LOVES ME TODAY". Hoppy and Picky were just rolling their eyes. Bobby in the background just listening but also being sad that she didn't get out first (she and Kickin got hurt by the thwomp around the same time, but Kickin seemed to have gotten to it a frame before she did TvT' Also ig the excuse for Bobby wanting to get out here is that she couldn't imagine the others getting hurt by the Thwomps lol- The others would be like "Sure sure..." She can be mean against them if she wants to, but probably wouldn't be so mean to the point that they can't recover).
Also thought it'd be funny to mention that during the homestretch, Bobby just to happened to get the lucky space TWICE that led the party to the star island, but Picky was always the one that won all the Mini Stars at the end. She really did get lucky there- After this point, most likely everyone was certain Picky was going to win considering where she stood between the rest of the party, so they started to get a bit tense about that I think lol.
Near the end with the Bonus Stars, I genuinely thought Picky was going to win the Minigame Star since she kept getting first in many minigames. I guess I didn't keep track of how often she did, tho- Bobby still won it despite how many times she got 4th in some of them (she has really gotten better near the end ig). Speaking of Bobby and Picky, Picky had a LOT of Mini Stars in general, but because of Bobby landing on the Boss Battle space, receiving first place from Wiggler AND the captain bonus, I'm pretty sure that was the upper hand she needed cuz SHE WON!! Nobody was mad completely though since she was getting kind of screwed during the rounds. Though I can imagine Hoppy used what Kickin said earlier about Bowser loving him to her advantage though since he ended in 4th lol. Hoppy herself got 3rd (she was a little salty about that since she thought she'd do better, especially with the minigames but they were surprisingly not her strong suit this time. Kickin probably tried to tease her back about that lol). Meanwhile, Picky was just proud of Bobby for winning, though deep down kinda sad because she thought for sure she would win ;v; Bobby beat her by ONE mini star lol. For context, Bobby got 71 Mini Stars, Picky got 70, Hoppy got 53, and Kickin got 46.
Alr, second time through, I decided to play as CatNap (Shy Guy) with DogDay (Toad), CraftyCorn (Yoshi), and Bubba (Koopa). The board chosen was Toad Road since two out of the four Critters in that round (DogDay and CraftyCorn as was mentioned before) have that as their favorite. So what happened here that could be potential hcs? Well...
Not TOO much happened at the very beginning. Though at 10 to Win, I can imagine Bubba was absolutely trying his hardest to remember where every single card was despite how scrambled they all were. He didn't do too badly, but some of the cards were mainly ones he didn't want to get completely. CatNap's the opposite I imagine. He just chooses whatever seems right. That didn't work too well for him in this round, though (he got last ;-;) Crafty kept getting cards that supported everyone from what I remember (probably relieved her to know she could've gotten worse than she did). Pretty sure DogDay mostly won because of the cards the others chose (like a 1st card Bubba ended up getting at some point, DogDay was in 1st at the time and I can imagine Bubba just facepalmed when he did that-)
Just want to mention that Shy Guy's fourth place animation did make me think of CatNap, though I feel like if CatNap showed how he'd react to last place, he would just sleep away his sorrows if he got last lol
Speaking of CatNap, I feel like he's a menace in Mario Party. Like, anywhere else he's pretty chill, but make him play a game? Oh, it's like there's another side of him sorta- (he still keeps his laid back energy but he's clearly having fun against the party) Mainly thought of that because of him getting a 1v3 minigame (Spike-n-Span) and he pretty much wasn't holding back. He got EVERYONE.
I guess Bubba learned about how easy it was for CatNap to win that minigame because literally when he landed on a 1v3 space himself, HE CHOSE THAT SAME MINIGAME- He probably leeches off of the experiences he witnesses in the game and uses what he has seen to his advantage (it doesn't help for the others that Bubba has really good memory so he would probably know what to do to win; this could go for Mario Party in general tbh). Unfortunately, Bubba lost the minigame that time- Ironically enough tho, CatNap got out first lol
Every time the party kept getting Bowser Jr spaces, it was because of DogDay. I find it funny that Bowser Jr always paired him with CatNap tho (probably bc of him being first player tbf tho). First Bowser Jr minigame they played together wasn't so good. They played Sand Trap, and CatNap was a little confused on what to do. DogDay wasn't faring much better though. I feel like he was mainly waiting to see what CatNap was planning so he took his time. When they lost that one, I feel a part of CatNap was probably thinking "If we go down then we go down together :>" but another part of him felt bad because he legit had no idea what he was doing. DogDay was likely assuring him after that, hopeful that they'd win against Bowser Jr again next time. Sure enough, when DogDay landed on another Bowser Jr space, they did :) That minigame was Double Pounder. The instructions were easier for them to understand by that point. CatNap didn't really mind that DogDay got Mini Stars too that time (pretty sure DogDay wasn't in first by that point from what I remember). DogDay was just happy the two were able to win together. Probably gave CatNap a small hug after that. (Meanwhile Bobby in the background is just going: AWWWWWW 🥹🥹)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh yeah, Crafty was just chilling with her first place status in the first half too. She had about 33 mini stars during that point. She's not exactly planning on bragging about her status. She was just internally hoping she wouldn't get destroyed later TvT (she got this ahead because of a lucky space she landed on where climbed up a vine and got all the mini stars in that area- 12 MINI STARS) At some point, CatNap was catching up to her in terms of Mini Stars so there likely was some tension by that point. Crafty is just scared but at the same time defensive about her stars. Meanwhile CatNap was probably just silently hoping something happens to her stars and that he can get ahead-
This especially shows when Crafty got the Captain event. She legit chose CatNap to go last 💀 She was hoping it would be less likely for him to get the stars at the end if he was last. For more context, she chose Bubba to go first, then either herself or DogDay, but considering she was still in first, I think she was thinking that she could get the Mini Stars if she rolled high enough, so she would've needed to be the third person to do that- Unfortunately, Crafty's ploy didn't go too well. CatNap STILL got the stars at the end. Pretty sure that made them even in Mini Stars by that point-
CatNap just casually dominating most minigames... Pretty much like that with minigames like Pinball Fall. My guy literally didn't fall down a hole ONCE during his run- I think he probably has a bit of luck similar to Picky but he also is genuinely determined to win and happy to see the others struggling in the minigames deep down. Doesn't exactly voice this, but if you paid attention to his expressions, you'd know
Also, I think CatNap just pretty much wins a lot of the Reverse Minigames. The minute he hears that's what happens when the group lands on a Bowser space, he's like "K. I always wondered what happened if I just willingly jumped into this" in the most casual tone. DogDay would just look back at him concerned-
Meanwhile for Bubba, poor guy barely won many of the minigames (much less end up in 1st). I feel like he would still do very well in certain minigames taking character into account. He probably wouldn't be super fast though since he would prefer to calculate his moves I can imagine. Probably why he waited so long to even try to hit in the minigame Logger Heads (ironically enough though, he still ended up hitting a bomb at one point-) What made things worse for him was that he got no points and it was a Bowser minigame where they fought between half of the whole party's Mini Stars. He was already in last place by that point. He was likely frustrated about that, but pretty calm about the frustration anyway. Just silently facepalming and grumbling at himself for doing something he sees as dumb. Can also imagine that in general, Bubba would get much more quiet if he was in last due to the frustration but also because of trying to focus and think about ways to get himself back in the game. The party would probably be concerned about that-
Okay, I just wanna say for the record... The bosses in this round are the exact same as last time. For highlights there, Bubba got the captain bonus for the Lakitu boss and Yoshi's 4th place animation legit made me think: "Yeah, that looks like Crafty right there" because I could imagine her doing that 🥺 As for the Wiggler boss, CatNap was literally dominating everyone in that. He didn't even lose any points either. He also had the captain's bonus lol I imagine he just did all that with the most chill expression ever, too lol. He'd probably just be like "Imagine losing..." to everyone else in a casual way. If Kickin was playing against him, he would get offended by that so much lol
Speaking of dominating, there was NO CONTEST with the winner by that point. CatNap beat everyone by at least 60 MINI STARS- HE GOT 104 TOTAL COMPARED TO CRAFTY'S 40, DOGDAY'S 37, AND BUBBA'S 30 NEAR THE END- I blame that on Logger Heads tbh. The minute that minigame happened, CatNap just dominated Crafty in winnings. There wasn't really a chance for her to win now T^T Bubba was disappointed in himself but at the same time, not surprised that CatNap won now. He also blames CatNap's winning on Logger Heads and luck (since CatNap could get the captain's bonus easily since he was only a couple spaces away so he could use his 4-6 dice he kept on him) Meanwhile DogDay is just absolutely amazed by how well CatNap did. No bad blood against him at all. He's just happy for him :> (We love the golden retriever and black cat energy)
Finally, I decided to do one of the minigame modes for fun. I chose to play as Kickin this time and also adding Bobby, Crafty, and Bubba. I chose for them to do Choice Challenge. They had to choose between five minigames, which were Thwomper Room, Urn It, Tuber Tug, Polar Extreme, and Pit or Platter.
Bubba was the only one to choose both Thwomper Room and Urn It. LITERALLY JUST HIM. He got 200 points right off the bat. Bobby and Crafty were pretty worried by that point, but Kickin wasn't at all expecting that- He was probably making sure he won the next minigames he chose. Funnily enough, he was trying to go for Thwomper Room, too, but he must've accidentally chose another minigame. It would've been a StarStudent matchup there (sorry StarStudent shippers ;-;)
Bubba didn't choose Tuber Tug and Polar Extreme but Bobby, Crafty, and Kickin did, so it was literally just competition against those three for a bit. They practiced Tuber Tug first through Kickin's plea because he was wanting to make sure his Wii Remote worked (he wanted to make sure he could dominate his competition- Don't blame him). I can imagine Hoppy would likely be calling him a chicken in the background for not going straight into the minigame despite knowing how to do it. Either way, Kickin won the minigame and got 100 points. Crafty got 50, and Bobby 30. No practice was done for Polar Extreme as the instructions were simple. (Btw, this was the minigame Kickin accidentally picked over Thwomper Room-) All three of them still never made it to the goal, though Bobby survived the longest so she won. This time Bobby got 100 points, Kickin got 50, and Crafty 30. Considering how well she did with the minigames last time they played together, I can imagine Kickin would get pretty suspicious of Bobby. Though he isn't nearly as worried about her as he is with Bubba. Y'know... THE DUDE WHO GOT FIRST PLACE AND DIDN'T EVEN HAVE TO TRY TO GET THERE.
Everyone chose the Chance minigame, Pit or Platter. Kickin's ego was probably kicking in again by that point because he's usually good with skill minigames. This one wasn't his best attempt at it though. Hoppy calling him out probably cut him deep so he didn't choose to practice this time, even though he probably needed it- Either way, he just wanted to make sure it wasn't Bubba that won. Sure enough, Bubba didn't win that minigame. Bobby did
Bobby really proved to be a wild card when it comes to minigames, but it actually goes in her favor this time- She actually won against Bubba by 30 points. She had 280 and he had 250. Crafty and Kickin were pretty far down in terms of points though. Poor Crafty didn't get first place once- Kickin meanwhile is just glad Bubba didn't win but also a little salty that Bobby won since she won against him last time- It didn't really matter to Bobby that she won anyway. She was just happy to play with her friends. She let them know that too through her usual affection :>

(Sorry this was so long, but I had a lot of fun doing this- It's not everyday I'm able to play on my Wii due to college stuff 🙃 I hope you liked what I listed tiara, and in general, I hope y'all enjoyed =v=') Speaking of tiara, credits to her for the Mario Party 9 headcanons idea for the Smiling Critters. These were fun to come up with :)

"I'm on a diet."
"What?! Just eat it!" You shoved the burger towards your best friend Wakasa's face, irritated by him refusing it. "And since when are you on a diet? I just saw you eat a whole box of dangos the other day!"
"I wasn't on a diet then."
What a drama queen, you thought while rolling your eyes. "Come on! You just said you were hungry!"
Wakasa arched a brow in response, eyeing you and the burger with caution before leaning back against the park bench, and staring up at the sky. "You were the one who decided I was hungry. I didn't say anything and besides, you looked a bit too eager. Bet you spit in it or something." He accused, and you feigned a look of shock, raising a hand to your chest just to be dramatic.
An offended gasp escaped your lips. "I would never! You're my friend Waka! Whatever gave you that idea?"
He rolled his eyes, recanting the incident that had happened a week prior. "Didn't seem like it when I accidentally broke that attempted mess of a vase. You know, the one you made in that shit of a pottery class." He reminded, and you frowned. "You yelled at me for like 30 minutes before running off and if I remember right, you said 'Wakasa Imaushi you are the worst, and I hope you fall in a ditch and can't get up.' Remember [Y/N]?"
It took all your willpower not to shove the damn burger down his throat. Funny how he remembered breaking your BEAUTIFUL vase and your scolding, but had forgotten to pick you up from said pottery class and had left you waiting in the pouring rain for him.
You waved off his 'concerns' and gave him a sweet smile. "Think of this as me letting go of you breaking the vase I worked so hard for! C'mon, say ahh!" You tried shoving it towards his mouth, but he resisted yet again, maneuvering away. "Oh come on Waka! It's not like I did anything to it!"
Oh but you did, oh yes indeed you did. It was your last ditch attempt of confessing to him, as he had foiled each of your grand efforts, and the last being the vase your worked so damn hard on. You wanted to confess to him in a fun and memorable manner, yet somehow he managed to ruin it each time, forcing you to try and try again.
The first attempt was supposed to be a card that popped some confetti, but he had dropped it into the pond. You nearly had pushed him into the pond afterwards.
The second attempt was cupcakes, with ''𝓌𝒾𝓁𝓁 𝓎𝑜𝓊 𝑔𝑜 𝑜𝓊𝓉 𝓌𝒾𝓉𝒽 𝓂𝑒?" and unfortunately he had passed them out to Senju and the others without even bothering to read the message!
The third attempt was a package, a gift for him and a letter confessing your feelings. He had never gotten it though, as someone had stolen the package... What was even worse, the guy who had stolen it, called you (your number was on the packaging label) and ''accepted'' your feelings and then had the audacity to ask you for money.
The fourth attempt was the vase you had made in your pottery class. It was a beautiful lilac vase and you had placed flowers in it, with a note attached. Waka was supposed to pick you up, but the asshole had forgotten. What was worse than him forgetting you, was him breaking the vase, causally apologizing and brushing it off.
Naturally that set you off, and you ran off. You were tired and wondered if this was the universe's way of telling that the two of you weren't meant to be. The others had persuaded you to try once more, and if it still failed, then you'd finally give up.
Now this was your fifth and final attempt, and you had taken up some advice. Cliché as it was, you had decided to give it a go - the way to a man's heart was his stomach.
Now all he had to do, was bite into the damn burger and feel the crinkly paper in his mouth and finally read the damn thing.
You exhaled sharply and continued to shove the burger his way but the man still refused. Time for your secret weapon! You smiled and batted your lashes at him sweetly. "Please Waka?"
Wakasa merely gave you a stare before sighing, which gave you some hope but he ultimately crushed it as he waved you off. Saying he wasn't hungry, nor did he believe that you hadn't messed with it.
"I didn't spit in it!" You protested, pouting in a cute manner and batted your lashes once more. "I...I might've just added something special!"
Wakasa glanced at the burger from the corner of his eye before turning his attention back onto you. "That doesn't make me want to try it even more."
Your jaw dropped, sure it sounded suspicious as hell but come on! You weren't trying to poison the man, you were trying to make him your man!
The two of you had been friends for a longtime, and you honestly couldn't say when you fell for him, but one thing you did know for certain, was that your whole heart belonged to him and you found out on during an unsavory night.
You were supposed to be out on a date, but ended up being harassed by a local gang of goons. Rather than standing up for you, your date had sacrificed you and ran for the hills. To say you were appalled by his actions would've been an understatement and lucky for him, Wakasa dropped everything when you called.
The man wasted no time to come to your aid, and made sure you were alright before 'dealing' with the goons. As you watched him 'deal' with the goons, you noticed how fast your heart was racing and it wasn't due to fear.
Even with blood splattered on his cheek, he was the most gorgeous man you had ever seen. That was when you knew you were in love with Wakasa Imaushi.
He even gave you a small bouquet of roses from the nearby convenience store - which he had bought using the money he pocketed from the goons and then took you to your favorite ice cream shop to make up for the shit night you had.
"Stop giving me that look." He yawned, unwrapping a new lollipop and popping it in his mouth.
"But Wakaaaaa." You pleaded again but he refused to listen, only frustrating you more. "Fine then!" You were done, and maybe this was the universe telling you to give up!
Sure, you'll give up but not without going out with a blaze of glory.
You stood from the bench, and faced Wakasa. Curious eyes followed your movements and arched a brow when you stood in front of him, with that damn burger in hand.
An aggravated smile was thrown his way, making him gaze at you in questioning look and ready to say something, but you didn't give him a chance to speak. You smashed the burger against his mouth and quickly walked off.
Meanwhile Wakasa sat there in shock, yeah you could aggressive but never like this?? He couldn't wrap his mind around your actions, normally you were an open book but today? Nothing made sense.
Wiping his mouth clean and cleaning himself off, he noticed a sauce stained paper sitting near him. Fingers pinched the ridges of his nose, as he realized that you might've just wanted to prank him and clearly was fed up when he wouldn't relent. Opening up the little note, he read the contents.
𝐼 𝓁𝒾𝓀𝑒 𝓎𝑜𝓊, 𝓅𝓁𝑒𝒶𝓈𝑒 𝑔𝑜 𝑜𝓊𝓉 𝓌𝒾𝓉𝒽 𝓂𝑒?
His eyes widened at the note, you felt the same has him? He chuckled softly to himself, the two of you were quite the pair of idiots. "[Y/N]!" He called after you.
As for you, your heart started to race faster and you didn't dare to stop walking. You just kept going, afraid of hearing the words you dreaded nor did you turn to face him, terrified to see rejection. So instead, you shakily held you hand out. "I'm going home, you coming or what?" You announced, hoping this wasn't the end of you and him.
Wakasa didn't say anything else, leading you believe the worst but you were proud of yourself, at least you had confessed in a creative manner, it just a shame—
The sounds of feet jogging towards you made your heart race once more and snapped you out of your short lived moment of despair. His actions reignited hope.
A warm hand found its way to yours, letting his fingers lace themselves with yours, grasping on tightly.
Your breath hitched, heart racing even faster as a smile spread across your features.
"Figures you'd do something like this instead of just telling me." He chuckles as he met your speed, causing your cheeks to redden a bit.
Your gaze met his, a warm and elated look sat upon his features, eyes watching as he brought up your intertwined hands up to his lips and placed a soft kiss on the back your hand.
He then pulled you closer, placing a kiss on your cheek. "I like you too dumbass."
You smile and squeeze his hand affectionately. "Shut up."
"Might as well go and celebrate." He suggests and you notice a familiar sparkle in his eyes. "Shin recommended this new dango place. Just opened up last month."
You giggle as you tease him. "But Waka, your diet."

355: Motörhead // No Remorse
Tumblr media
No Remorse Motörhead 1984, Bronze
I heard British comics writer Warren Ellis tell a story about hearing a horrible banging in the hallway outside his flat late one night in the mid-1980s. When he poked his head outside to give the noisenik hell he discovered Lemmy wandering around smacking the walls with a wooden cooking spoon. After he managed to get the metal legend’s attention, Lemmy waved the implement at him and snarled, “You ever hear of a coke spoon? This is my coke spoon!”

This past Friday, I talked to a 50-something punk named Joey P who has 26 Motörhead records on vinyl (including the coveted leatherbound version of No Remorse). If you ever want to have a long conversation with Joey P, I recommend starting with a riff on if Ronnie James Dio was a mob-connected / Rat Pack wiseguy, and then letting him go into antiquarian detail on which Motörhead records are kind of underrated (Another Perfect Day), underrated (Bastards), and really underrated (1916). Love that guy, and I think he’s mostly right. 26 is probably too many Motörhead records even for me, but they are one of those long-running, very sonically consistent bands who turn their deepest fans into sommeliers. I can hold forth about the subtle differences in tasting notes between an Ace of Spades and an Iron Fist (let alone a departure like Orgasmatron!) while an outsider looks doubtfully into their two indistinguishable cups of Jack and Coke. A band like this gives men of a certain age a way to sniff each other over when they meet in a clearing, a low-impact ritual of butting heads.

For years I remembered a story I thought one of my friends had told me about running into Lemmy at the Dominion Tavern in Ottawa towards the end of his life. He was miserably drinking white wine on his doctor’s orders, not looking for conversation. The image always struck me as both funny (I cannot imagine the house wine at the Dom having a nice finish), and sad (the day Lemmy Goddamn Kilmister lets anyone tell him he can’t have whiskey!). I think I’ve repeated it once or twice over the years as an example of how age mellows us all, but when I asked the pal I thought had told me, she denied it (though she did add that her ex told her Lemmy’d gone to see “the rippers in Aylmer once”). So, I dunno, maybe he escaped the fate of the Dom Chardonnay.
Tumblr media
*
Speaking of fate, Lemmy was a damned sharp fellow beneath all the drugging and boozing (who else could’ve written the lyric “Fourth day, five-day marathon / We’re moving like a parallelogram”), and he rightly figured his label had pitched doing a hits compilation in 1984 because they thought the band was washed up. (The limp sales and savage critical reaction to Another Perfect Day having had something to do with that.) Kilmister insisted on inserting a side’s worth of new songs onto the double LP comp to emphasize that Motörhead remained very much a going concern. Of the four, only the brilliantly dumb “Killed By Death” became a classic in its own right, but the new tracks showed the band were still capable of churning out the sound that had defined them with undiminished ferocity. They never lost it.
youtube
*
I do know a woman who hooked up with Lemmy towards the end of his life (if anything in rock and roll can be believed, she had about 1,000 peers. It was like a more pleasant [?] Germs burn). They went home from the bar in Montreal and drank whiskey, and then she split in the morning without leaving her number. She thought the story was funny and I thought not leaving a number was a pretty good flex, but at the end she still gave a bit of a wistful, “I know he probably wouldn’t have called me anyway…”
Tumblr media
*
Lemmy picked the songs for No Remorse himself, and even provides short annotations in the liners, so if you’re going to quibble with the selections, you’ll have to take it up with the mole man. (As he says of “Like a Nightmare,” a left-field inclusion, “This was one of my favourite B-sides. Everyone didn’t like it, but seeing as I’m the only one of the old band left, here it is!!”) There are a load of Motörhead compilations out there (I’m partial to 2000’s lavish, oddly-sequenced double-CD The Best of, since it’s the one I had as a kid), and as Joey P will tell you, they did lots of good stuff after 1984. But if 1) you only need one Motörhead record on wax, 2) you’re mostly into the original lineup, and 3) you want something reasonably comprehensive, No Remorse is a no-brainer. It has a few relative duds (“Louie, Louie”) and lacks some absolute classics (“Dead Men Tell No Tales”; “Tear Ya Down”; “City Kids”; “Love Me Like a Reptile”; “White Line Fever” etc. etc.) but why complain given the teeth-rattling abundance there is? As Lemmy says, “Here is Motörhead as you’ve come to expect them. Write your opinion on a Beatle wig and send it to someone who gives a damn. Even if you get us banned, we ain’t gonna stop!”
Tumblr media
*
Motörhead were obviously a legendary live act, and they were my first metal show (on a bill at Detroit’s Pine Knob with Dio and Iron Maiden). They played a lot of arenas, but they made the most sense in small theatres. Bigger venues tend to dwarf them, like a small motorcycle gang trying to take over a castle. In a theatre, or better yet a bar, they own the place like The Wild Ones. I don’t remember much specific from their Pine Knob set, except that before closing with “Ace of Spades,” a song Lem was famously bored of playing every night, he told us all, “You’ll know this one, sing along if you want, I won’t be able to hear you anyway,” and then abruptly launched into that hellbent bass riff. Then he disappeared (probably there was some walking beforehand, couldn’t tell you for sure).
Tumblr media
*
Lemmy’s funeral was livestreamed back in 2015, and it’s genuinely one of the sweetest, silliest things I have ever watched. The altar features flower arrangements in the shape of the ace of spades; an iron cross in place of a crucifix; two Marshall stacks; a pair of Triple H’s wrestling boots; a 3D-printed urn in the shape of his cavalry hat; and a mirror with a big line of speed on it. Everybody cries, many of them the sort of people the PMRC would’ve expected to burst into flames if they were to enter a church. Everybody talks about how genuinely nice he was. His girlfriend Cheryl, a job that earns you instant and eternal That Poor Woman status from all who observe, gives a super brief statement: “Lemmy loved me, but his greatest love was his fans and his music. I remember saying, ‘Baby, stay home, don’t go, skip this tour. And he said, ‘Baby, I can’t. I love my fans.’” (Imagine that being an interaction between two genuine living people—yet I believe it.) Apparently, he was an absolute pinball fiend. His bootmaker gives a speech. Somebody reads some limericks Lem wrote. What a life. What a story.

“Can’t get enough / And you know it’s some righteous stuff / Goes up like prices at Christmas! / Motörhead / Remember me now / Motörhead, alright"

Wahoo I beat armored core (just now now!) thoughts below (and spoilers of course)
I can’t believe they made me fight an upgraded balteus lmao but what balteus wasn’t ready for was an upgraded ME 😈
Good game! Visually very very pretty to look at, mentally I’m clapping a lot at the credits rn lol
And the choices the game made me do lol aaaaaghhh. I almost considered putting the game down for the day when it asked me to betray carla. Same thing with eliminating G1 Michigan, only because I thought VIII Pater was my friend (turns out he’s sick in da head!! Scary guy. Really lives up to his AC name “dual nature” whew) less messed up arquebus members the better. In the end I went with ayre all the way but not because I like ayre but because of 2 things
1) carla she did try to kill me once (she made up for it by saving my ass out of prison tho)
2) (the more important reason why I sided with Ayres idea) — who knows what the ecosystem of the planet would be like with the complete removal of coral, not to mention coral is semi sentient so it’d be like super massacre if I went with Carla (and Walters) idea of destroying it all. ALSO, the destruction of the giant space ship crashing into that coral harvesting place, like what would life be like for the rubiconians? Even worse? Nobody has their interests in minds bc as far as they’re concerned they’re always caught in the middle of some corporation war, so if I sided with Carla it’d be adding fuel to that corporation war fire :(
Like ayre says at the end though, I’m sure we can avoid a fires of ibis situation 2.0 if we work really hard together. 621 is a human that didn’t lose their mind completely after contact with coral voices and maybe it has to do with the fact that they’re a fourth generation human (since the later generations worked out the kinks of not having to hear coral anymore)
Also. During the very sad heartbreaking (for me) killing carla mission, do u know how excited I was to beat the shit out of snail lmao
After reading that his augmentations were only perfected thanks to who knows how many innocent deaths, and his mind re-education shenanigans I’ve hated his ass since DAY ONE. Even IF he’s a sassy funny guy
Ok the ps just told me the trophy for this ending is called liberator of rubricon. Whatever ending that is lol idk what ppl are calling it
God I already miss Walter why’d they make me kill him too lol
ON THAT NOTE I MISS RUSTY I THINK WALTER MAY HAVE KILLED HIM. I’m gonna stick to anime rules for this one and that’s “no body seen no death” yup rusty is still out there (<- copium)
Oh wow ok I guess NG+ just starts like that huh, that’s ok w me I’ll do a NG+ run just to see the other endings, they better not make me actually kill rusty tho that’d break my heart more than it did to take out carla and chatty : (
Also pvp is fun but I’m ok at it lol I keep losing a ton but I’ve had a couple of close matches and won like 4 matches so far
Oh right about snail tho, back in the Carla mission? I was talking mad shit while fighting him like “I ALREADY BEAT YOUR DATA IN THE ARENA YOU THINK YOURE HOT SHIT??” that sorta thing. And u know how dissapointed I was that I didn’t kill him right then and there? His ass escaped that ass beating. Don’t matter tho I terminated his ass for good when he was riding that toddler ass upgraded baby chair balteus 2.0
Idk how from soft does it but they keep making these super super climatic boss fights and super fucking awesome attack patterns that are both visually appealing and difficult to evade/survive but when you do it’s like you’re really in the fight in that moment it’s awesome :) this happened with balteus, balteus 2 purple laser moment, and the fuckinnggggg icewormmmm, malenia elden ring comes to mind (alongside demon souls king of storm)
And I can’t believe they got me with the sekiro monkey “it’s not dead! It’s getting up again!” Moment too god damn that flying boss whew, sad the game wouldn’t let me use that boss’ sweet ass wings as a part to equip :(
Rusty really warmed up to me, initially I was a hater because his ass was always setting me up with these missions that always had an extra lil spice in them meant to kill me or set me up in some way (probably arquebus’ fault) but he…. Waghhhggg………”the first to join” ok cool….ty for being so eager to reunite with me rusty…I honestly thought he was dead after the ice worm mission….and the fucking line he says “there’s only one person who can keep up with me” with 621 in on the comm to listen in on….what are we…….(we’re buddies…)
Great game. And amazing cast of characters, like maybe it’s the voice acting that really nailed it but for me to care about a bunch of people (g1 Michigan…..) that you never actually see in game and only hear is wild lol
I do not care for ayre tho. I’m sorry I’m a hater, she always said some common sense stuff like “remember to dodge” baby we been on how many missions together now please. If she was a deep voiced lady I would’ve been on my hands and knees tho, and if she had a male voice I’d be even worse lol
Cortana ass!!!! Anyways cutest ayre moment was 621 and her watching these giant nuke missles hit a massive structure and she’s like (cutely) “they’re really like fireworks” & I had to laugh and be like we gotta get u some real fireworks ayre they don’t look like this gsvdvdvd
Right and do u know how much I was pogging when the fake raven or Rather the Real Raven showed up??? Damn what was that guys situation about and their handler too? Hmmmmm (dlc potential?)
Fun ass game! Slow start but momentum wise it keeps speeding up and then the end is like WHAM did ya like it and I gotta be like YEAH. I DID. Now I have the urge to play the other endings in ng+ since my AC is geared the fuck up to handle anything I feel like. Kinda wish the pacing at the start stayed the whole way as in slow pacing the entire game with the game letting me kill more shounen protagonist types lol (although that would mean killing ppl like Rusty hmmm my sadism for wanting more murder of naive protagonist types and love for rusty is like oil and water when it comes to that idea lol)
One complaint tho just one, the ost can be somewhat lacking. It has its moments tho!! There’s like 3 tracks that really kill it, and they’re at important moments too. Iceworm, balteus 2.0/snail showdown, and Carla fight are good. The rest went over my head tho sowwy
Now that I’ve achieved credits in this game im a certified armored core fan (even tho this is my first one) and I’m glad this game is getting attention! I really hope they release more AC games bc this kicked ass, maybe they can take a break before taking that on though, because every single mission is pretty breath taking visually, and MASSIVE in terms of sheer size sometimes like damn. Lots of love!

To Build a Home
One Step Forward, Two Steps Back (INTERLUDE)
A/N: I'd like to introduce yous to the newest member of our cast - Frank, Val's paramedic partner. His face/voice claim is Michael Rapaport. He actually plays an EMT in Netflix's "Atypical". It's a great show; you should check it out, if you haven't already. 😊
TW! Intrusive Thoughts, Sex as Coping Mechanism (mentioned), Self-harm.
Masterlist / Chapter 22
---
Val was grateful for the busy day; it provided much needed distraction from from the absolute shitshow that's been her twenty-fourth birthday.
It was just after 7 pm when she finally clocked off, two hours later than expected. If she and Raph had hit the road at the originally planned time, would they be living it up at the super top secret accommodation, right now?
Languidly collecting the remainder of her personal effects from her locker, the brunette's heart sank at the sudden, distressing notion:
I don't want to go...
"Hey," a familiar, Brooklyn-accented voice called gently, from behind. Forcing yet another smile upon her aching face, Val turned to acknowledge the silver-haired, smiling-eyed man.
"Hey, Frank."
When she and her paramedic partner were first introduced, Val damn near choked on her latte. He looked and sounded freakishly like the lovely older gentleman who defended her, that fateful night.
But, unlike with her and Raph, lightening didn't end up striking twice. This one's just as lovely, though.
"Ya did good, today," he complimented; petting her jacket-clad shoulder as he stepped toward his own locker.
The brunette tittered quietly, unable to withhold the heat that subsequently rushed for her cheeks... nor the tears she'd spent her entire twelve-hour shift barely staving off. She quickly averted her gaze.
"Thank God, heh..."
At least one of us thinks so...
Her partner hummed thoughtfully as he proceeded rummaging through his belongings. She could feel his concerned gaze burning into her cheek.
Please, don't ask. Please, please, please, don't ask....!
"Ya good, kid?"
Oh, yeah - fantastic . Just that one of my best friends, who's also my boyfriend's brother, hid a relationship-altering revelation from me. Now, everything's gone to shit and I've no fucking clue what to do...
But, what about you? What are you up to, this weekend?
"Nothin' a stiff drink can't fix," Val quipped weakly, eyes fixed on her purse as she carefully deposited all her detachable gear and valuables, bar her shell-cell, into it.
Glimpsing several texts and missed call notifications, she made a mental note to check them later, before tucking the hot pink Motorola into her pants' side pocket.
Frank chuckled wistfully, stirring a comforting warmth in Val's chest. "I'm 'bout to go home and do just that..."
Finally catching her gaze, the man offered his partner a knowing smile; giving her shoulder one final squeeze as he donned his backpack.
"Try to enjoy ya weekend, yeah? Catch'ya later."
---
“He did what?!”
Raph shifted his tingling backside in the Shellraiser's driver seat; nodding, like the woman he was venting to over the phone could see him. An affirmative hum promptly followed.
“Yep. He should consider himself very lucky it was Val who talked to him, and not me; I woulda rearranged his teeth..." An enervated sigh escaped him, as he dragged a hand down his face. "I'm so sick of this bullshit..."
Mol gave her own hum, before finally falling silent; seemingly mulling over those words. The terrapin anxiously thudded the back of his head against the headrest, waiting on a response.
“So, don’t take this the wrong way...”
Raph groaned inwardly. “We've told him already, Mol; so many freakin’ times, it ain't even funny-”
“What exactly have you been saying?"
The terrapin scoffed. “Just that everythin's fine and to mind his damn business...?”
There was nothing but compassion in his friend's tone, so he hadn't a clue as to why his shell was up, right now.
It's been a long, lousy-ass day...
All he wanted to do now was steal his girlfriend away, and spend the rest of the weekend making up for it.
“...That's it?”
“Whaddaya tryna get at, Mol?” He sighed.
“Well, I'm just curious as to why you decided not to tell Leo about this, but told me; who had the same concerns-"
"Yeah- cos you aren't in love with her."
The 'L' word twisted his stomach as it slid from his tongue. Once again, his mouth moved quicker than his brain.
"...I-I'm sorry, what-"
"Five months, Mol-"
Looks like we're revealing everything...
"I'd been suspectin' somethin' else was up, before then- I-I mean, I get bein' concerned about the... the bites, and everythin'. Truly, I do. I'd be concerned if ya weren't, honestly- I..."
Feeling his emotions getting the better of him, Raph proceeded with a deep, albeit shaky, inhale; holding onto it as long as his aching lungs would allow, before finally, semi-calmly continuing.
"I was prepared to tell him - I was gonna tell him. But then I saw them talkin', the mornin' after Halloween. He had her practically wedged between himself and the wall; face inches from hers - inches. If Val hadn't left, when she did, I've no doubt he'd have tried somethin'. That's-" He firmly thumped the centre console with his fist, to emphasise his point. "-when I realised it ain't just about the bites, for him..."
After an excruciating moment's silence, Mol finally spluttered: "W-wow- uhhh... o-okay-"
"-a-and I don't know where Val's head's at, right now-" Like vomit, the words just kept coming. His face was on fire at this point as he fought tooth and nail to maintain control. To top it off, he could feel himself tearing up. Clearly, he'd been holding onto these feelings much too long.
"She didn't say much, after I told her; just stared into nothin'. She didn't let me walk her out. She nevah answered my texts durin' break, like she usually does-"
"Alright, okay-"
"I-I can't help but feel- f-feelin' like I'm losin' her, a little, y'know-?"
"Raph-"
"Y-yeah?" Overloaded with adrenaline, the terrapin trembled like a Chihuahua.
"Take a breath, for me, alright?" Mol enjoined gently; Raph obliged. "...That's it. Okay... Listen, first of all: it's a Friday; you know how hectic Fridays can get, for her. Her reason for not responding could be as simple as her just being too busy, alright? Second, if she is in fact dodging, this is how she tends to cope with hard shit, initially. She just needs that space, to get her mind right-"
"I know..." Raph sniffled, thanking God for having the foresight not to reverse park in this alleyway. "I know-"
"Can I ask..." Mol began tentatively. "Do you trust her? I-I know it's an awkward question, coming from the best friend-"
"Of course I do..."
Five months, he's known, but kept it to himself. Five months of watching his oldest brother not-so-discreetly pine for his usually rather shrewd girlfriend, struggling to keep from assuming the worst.
After everything they've been through together, there's no-one he trusted more in this world than Val. But he'd be lying if he said he wasn't at least a little bit miffed at the lack of "Oh, shit. Somethin's not right, here" on her part.
"I'm just-"
"Scared?"
Raph chuckled weakly, almost recoiling at the word. "You could say that..."
"She loves you, Raph," Mol assured gently, further constricting the terrapin's chest. A tear finally broke free; he let it fall. "She's not going anywhere, I can assure you... Please, talk to her. Don't keep all this inside, anymore. It'll kill you, otherwise."
"Do we... s-should I still take her-"
"Yes, go - you both clearly need the time away. As for the other thing-"
Raph's gaze flickered to the glovebox, where his gift securely lay; inside the tiny, velvet drawstring bag.
"-that's completely up to you - it's your life."
He hummed quietly. At this point, his feelings hadn't changed and, unless shit goes belly-up with this talk, he fully intended on following through.
That said, his brother's little stunt pretty much guaranteed it wouldn't happen tonight, like he'd planned.
Thanks, asshole.
A light rapping on the front passenger seat window snapped Raph out of his reverie. Quickly wiping his cheeks dry, the terrapin proceeded leaning forward; finding Val timidly smiling and waving in his direction, outside.
"That her?"
"Yeah."
"Alright, I'll let you go, then. See you guys later - good luck."
"Thanks, Mol." With that, Raph ended the call; dropping his shell-cell inside one of the empty cupholders, before reaching over to unlock, then open, the door.
"Hey..." His girlfriend murmured.
"Hey..." He replied, in kind.
"Sorry I'm late." She tentatively climbed into the passenger seat, stealing a glance at the suitcases behind her as she set her purse at her boots. "Busy day..."
Raph hummed once again, shifting in his seat to properly face her. "Thought so..."
Cocking his neck to catch her initially avoidant gaze, he searched her face. Hers looked as bad as his felt: flushed, and swollen. Those big, brown eyes brimmed with unshed tears; her cheeks and nose appeared scrubbed raw.
Clearly, she'd been crying; and like him, she'd tried her darndest not to let it show.
"How're ya feelin'...?"
That was all it took for her to crumble.
"I'm s-sorry..."
---
Heavy was the air between the couple as they silently traversed the bustling city, into the much more tranquil hinterland.
The entire trip, Val sat as far away from her boyfriend as physically possible; practically hugging the passenger side door. She kept her eyes fixed outside; but if one were to ask what she could see, she'd draw a blank.
Her brain was much too busy torturing her with graphic visions of her found family, imploding.
The culprit: her.
After a several minute crawl up the moderately steep mountain, housing their remote Airbnb, the truck finally plateaued; allowing a relieved Raph to loosen his aching grip on the steering wheel.
As he began stretching out the digits, the terrapin chanced a glance over at his girlfriend, who hadn't graced him with her gaze in over an hour.
An almost inaudible sigh left his lips as their brief, yet incredibly emotional alley conversation flitted through his wearied mind.
For five solid minutes, Val was a mess; apologising, over and over, for missing the signs. For making him question her fidelity.
For the first time in months, he finally felt heard. She was finally seeing what he was seeing.
There was obviously more that needed to be discussed. Watching his girlfriend recoil from her words as she tearfully described her and Leo's confrontation, Raph figured it was safe to assume the revelation left a pretty hefty mark on her. One that had already permeated their family.
Thanks again, asshole.
"I hope you'll be able to enjoy at least a little bit of ya birthday weekend, heh..."
It was meant as a jest, but the weight in Raph's throat made it sound like he was about to cry. An alarmed Val turned, visibly relaxing upon realising.
"Of course I will," she reassured, reaching over to gently squeeze his thigh.
Once he'd shaken off the initial shock at her (unanticipated at this time, but very much welcome) touch, the terrapin took a hand from the wheel and set it atop hers; squeezing back.
A soft smile pulled at the woman's lips, as their eyes finally met. "Thank you."
Raph couldn't help but chuckle at the ridiculousness of that expression. "No need to thank me, babe." Stroking her thumb with his, he offered her his own smile. "Ya deserve it."
The momentary slip of Val's mien suggested she thought otherwise. She quickly changed the subject, turning her gaze outward.
"We're pretty far out..." She attempted a smirk, but the necessary muscles were fighting her. "Should I be worried?"
Raph snorted; hand briefly leaving hers, so he could safely make the incoming turn. As they were leveling out, he finally spotted the sign.
"We're here."
"Should I climb into the back, so you can have your way with me, first?"
He snorted, again.
Cracking jokes, to lighten the weight of a heavy situation? Very Val-esque.
"You're a weirdo."
After rolling down about a mile of windy, gravelled road, they finally reached their accommodation: a quaint little stone cottage, nestled amongst wildflowers and low hanging trees.
The tiniest glimpse of one of the top features could be seen just off the side of the building, inside the near 7-foot bamboo screen fence - the hot tub.
Mol's picture was beautiful, but it didn't even come close in comparison to the real thing. Ironically, it was like stepping into a fairytale.
Raph tentatively checked his girlfriend's face - it was priceless.
"Are you-" The woman immediately checked herself, when she found her nails digging into his scales. "Sorry- sorry... Raph, this is... t-this... Quick, stop the truck-"
Raph chuckled as he honed in on a suitable parking spot. Fresh tyre tracks (hopefully) indicated Casey and April's recent presence. "Alright, alright-"
"Quick, quick, quick-"
Val anxiously bounced in her seat, like a child who just caught Disneyland in their sights. It warmed his heart.
"Hold ya horses; just wait till we stop. It ain't goin' anywhere, I promise..."
The moment that handbrake went up, Val was out; drinking in the location, finally unobstructed by metal panelling and glass.
"How'd you find...?" Her voice sounded miles away.
"Mol did, actually," Raph admitted as he climbed out and shut his door. He left the truck running, so they weren't standing in pitch black darkness.
The brunette hummed unctuously at that. "You were in kahoots, were you?"
"Case and April helped, as well. They swept through here a few hours ago, checkin' for cameras and whathaveyou; and to make sure it was as isolated as what it said on the packet..."
Approaching his girlfriend from behind, the terrapin proceeded snaking his arms around her middle; lightly resting his chin on her shoulder.
"You like it?"
Val giggled softly, nodding. "It's beautiful..."
"Know what else is beautiful?" He murmured against her neck, eliciting another giggle from her.
"You're wasting no time-"
"Hey, you propositioned me first-"
"Yeah, cos I feared for my life-"
"Riiight..." Raph playfully tapped her ass as he pulled away. "Sooo, are we goin' inside; or do ya plan on stayin' out here, all weekend?"
---
Val turned for the last time; prompting a slumbering Raph to grumble and finally release her naked body, rolling toward his side of the King-sized bed.
The weight that promptly lifted from her heart as he did so - it hurt.
A shaky sigh left the woman as she proceeded pulling herself to the edge of the mattress. Eyes fluttering open, she finally, gingerly reached for the item she'd been ruminating over, since the lights went out - her shell-cell.
Despite her best efforts to immerse herself in what was supposed to be a romantic weekend getaway, Val's thoughts continued rotating back to this morning - to the fight.
With every re-entry, it lingered longer; further muddying her feelings on the matter, and about him, in general.
They terrified her.
The bed creaked slightly as the brunette shifted into a seated position; toes grazing the cool timber flooring. Across from her, flames danced inside the fireplace; gifting herself, and the entire suite, a warm, flickering glow.
Slipping on the nightshirt she'd initially laid out for after their shower, but never put on, Val proceeded quietly stepping out onto the terrace; phone in hand.
Her stomach flip-flopped as she scrolled through her texts; bypassing the several variations of [Hope you're OK]s, [I'm sorry]s, and [Happy birthday]s, till she finally found one from whom she was searching for.
The last text he sent was yesterday: an early birthday wish and a reminder not to let Maggie use his present as a scratching post.
Val tittered at that, then groaned as tears immediately followed. She furiously swiped them away.
Why couldn't shit just be simple?!
She hadn't realised she'd been holding her breath, till she found her index finger hovering over the 'call' button.
It felt wrong to even consider doing this, especially from here.
She's supposed to be in there, being spooned (and groped, a little) by her boyfriend. Instead, she's out here; moments away from calling the man who'd just confessed his love for her.
But she had so much left to say. Things she wished she'd said, instead of blowing up the way she did. Things that simply couldn't wait till Sunday, lest she ruin the weekend with her preoccupation.
This had to be put to bed, now.
---
Leo awoke with a start, to the sound of his shell-cell buzzing beneath him.
A groan escaped the leader as he begrudgingly hauled himself upright, in his hammock; glaring down groggily at the infernal device.
I was enjoying that dream... The one in which he was living the life he'd never have.
All frustration promptly turned to anxiety, the moment he realised who was attempting to reach him.
"Wha...?" Finally scooping it up, Leo proceeded staring at her name on his screen; struggling to determine whether he was still, in fact, dreaming.
He quickly checked the time - 2:37am.
Aren't you at the cabin?
What are you doing calling me, at 2am?
Moreover, why are you calling me? I thought we were done...
Several seconds pass; the phone was still buzzing but, for the life of him, Leo couldn't bring himself to pick up. He was frozen stiff; heart racing, thoughts somehow quicker as he agonised over her intentions.
Though he knew it'd never happen, her reciprocation was (naively) still at the tippy top of his list.
By the time he finally decided: fuck it, it was too late. Her name vanished, right as his thumb pressed down on the receive button.
Shit!
Panic struck through Leo and he hit 'call' immediately, mentally slapping himself for somehow missing something right in front of him. Hopefully she's still open to talk...
The first 'Line busy', he understood. The second, after a minute: "Okay...?". The third, after another two minutes, he finally realised:
She was leaving him a message.
["Hey..."]
Leo's heart fluttered at her voice; then fell, once he noticed how heavy it sounded - she'd been crying.
Your fault.
["I really shouldn't be doin' this. But, I... I don't think I'll be able to sleep, if I keep- continue keepin' this to myself..."]
Suddenly, everything was hot.
Leo continued listening; fighting to keep his now screaming heart from drowning out her words.
["I f-feel... betrayed, by you..."]
Just like that, everything fell cold.
["I-I thought we were at a place where we could tell each other anything-"]
Leo hit 'call' again, faster than the speed of freaking light.
"C'mon, Val. Please..."
"...H-hey-"
Thank fuck-
"I'm sorry..." he blurted, before he could combust. "I'm sorry for not telling you. I'm sorry I didn't listen, when you said you were fine. I'm sorry for interfering in your relationship. I'm sorry for betraying your trust. I-I just..."
The terrapin's voice broke as tears seared his eyes. He hadn't felt this level of fear, since...
"...I was s-scared, Val-"
"I know..." she replied quietly, sniffling. "...and I'm sorry for not giving you the whole story; it would've cleared up at least that part of the issue... But, Leo... I-I don't know how I'm gonna process the other part-"
Leo began shaking his head. "I know it's never gonna go that way, between us," he insisted, almost desperately. "I know it and will respect it. You mean way too much to me to jeopardize what we already have-"
"That's the thing, Leo - y-you have..."
She might as well have ripped out his heart with her bare hands, then stomped on it.
"...P-please, don't say that-"
"I don't know exactly why I didn't see it. Maybe I didn't want to see it, out of fear of... of losing you; of losing this family... But I can't ignore it, anymore. I need to put him first..."
"O-of course - I understand. But, Val-"
"I won't be visiting the Lair, for a while-"
Leo couldn't believe what he was hearing. "You don't have to do that-"
"I-I know you can't control how you feel about me, but I need to put some distance between us-"
"This is your home, Val-"
"It's yours, first," she countered gently. "I have two homes - I'll be fine..."
The tears were well and truly flowing now. His heart was breaking, all over again. "V-Val, please-"
"I'm so sor..." It was clear she was in the same boat. "I'm sorry- I-I've gotta go..."
Click.
---
The rest of the night was rough.
Val spent most of it right where she ended the call: outside, in the dark; freezing her ass off (in literally nothing but a shirt), quietly crying herself to exhaustion.
Her heart was broken. Out of all the break-ups she's experienced - romantic or no - this one, by far, hurt the most. It felt like she'd just lost a part of herself; a part that'll never be the same when, or if, they reconcile.
Everything's changing...
Dawn was just beginning to creep in when Val finally dragged herself back inside. Raph was (thankfully) still dead to the world; bear-hugging her pillow, as he always did, whenever she wasn't around. Normally, this scene would have given her the warm and fuzzies.
This time, it only made her feel more like shit.
Her boyfriend's arm was around her the moment she crawled into bed; tugging her firmly against himself. He mumbled something unintelligible as he nuzzled into her neck, before seemingly slipping back into a deeper sleep; maundering fingers fondling the jersey cotton over her very perky and very sensitive nipple.
She just laid there, stiff and awkward; unable to bring herself to reciprocate the affection.
Words couldn't express how repugnant she felt: being hung up on a man, who was not her partner. Why the hell was she letting this guy occupy so much space in her mind?
Was she simply dealing with the loss of an important friendship, or could there be something she's been too afraid to consider-
SHUDDUP-!
She abruptly heel-palmed her temple, hard; wincing at both the pain now radiating through her skull, and the startling fact that she'd just struck herself; the first time in a long time.
She was ashamed to acknowledge this occurred often, growing up; whenever her thoughts stepped into deleterious territory, or to punish herself for her (perceived) shortcomings. It's a habit she'd unfortunately picked up from her mother, who regularly marked her wrists in an effort to 'relieve' herself of the seemingly unremitting war inside her mind.
Though she'd never gone that far (and never, ever will), Val conceded that her own methods (shattering her fingers on a brick wall, for example) weren't that great either, in comparison.
"Val...?"
The woman flinched at her boyfriend's voice, offending hand returning to her side with lightening speed. A sniffle escaped her, and she froze. The tears had not long ceased; one more syllable from him and she'd crumble... again.
"H-hey, baby..."
The mattress gave slightly as he shifted over her, hand finally leaving her chest to soothingly caress her stomach. His voice was hoarse from sleep; a decibel higher than a whisper, and brimming with concern:
"You okay...?"
...Nope.
One tear suddenly became two; then three, then four... Next thing she knew, she was howling into her pillow.
All these feelings and zero time nor space to process them healthily. They shouldn't have come; she was ruining this getaway with her bullshit.
"Hey, hey-" Taking her shoulder, Raph gently rolled his girlfriend toward him.
"No-"
He caught her hands as they darted for her face, securing them against his plastron. She kept her eyes squeezed shut; face turned away from him, pressed into her now damp pillow.
"Look at me, baby-" He beseeched; stroking her wet, hot cheek with his free hand, whilst squeezing hers with the other. His heart ached to see her in pain, knowing he had a hand in it.
If only he'd told her sooner, or kept his trap shut until after this weekend...
"Look at me, please..."
Eventually, she relented; allowing her body to fall limp in his grasp. Her half-lidded gaze stared behind him, off into the darkness. "I'm s-sorry-"
Her boyfriend gently shushed her, continuing to wipe away her tears.
"Don't be sorry. It's okay-"
"It's not-"
"It is-"
"You've done all this stuff for me and I've f-fucked it-"
"Hey- no, listen." His tone was sharp, resolute. Though she wasn't looking directly at him, the frequency of which her eyes flickered to the ear closest to him confirmed she was listening. "You've nothin' to apologise for, alright? I shouldn't have dropped all this on ya, yesterday. I lost my temper. I'm sorry..."
A brief silence befell the couple - in which Raph's hand finally left Val's cheek, to frame her jaw - before she finally murmured: "This isn't on you, babe..."
That's when he noticed the bags under her eyes; heart sinking even further. "Have ya slept?"
She only offered a despondent hum.
He couldn't help the sigh that followed. "Babe..."
Her eyes promptly disappeared beneath her lashes as she lowered her gaze.
Raph sighed again. He could feel the frustration building in his stomach - at her, at himself. He should've known she still wasn't okay last night. In hindsight, she'd 'recovered' too quickly.
She'd been much too eager to reciprocate, when he began feeling her up in the shower. Much too eager to escalate things, and much too eager for him to finish inside; a thing they've been (tentatively) exploring for some time, on her 'safe' days.
Desperate to put the Leo debacle behind them, they'd inadvertently taken advantage of each other.
He felt sick.
"Get some sleep; we'll talk later, when you're feelin' better."

Miscellaneous
How many of you have ever heard of the Irish singer Tommy Fleming? I love a good tenor, and Tommy is one of the best Irish tenors I have ever heard. I am sitting here listening to one of his CDs named Voice of Home II, a CD I have listened to quite a lot. Among songs he has the Halleluja by Leonard Cohen, which he shares with Mark Vincent, a great operatic/religious singer from Australia, and while he sings the first verse in English, Mark sings the second verse in Latin, Tommy sings the third verse in Irish Gaelic, and they duet the fourth verse together. Other songs on this double CD include World in Unison, a song for the Irish soccer team, and You're the Voice from another singer from Australia, about we the people getting out and fighting for the right rather than just leave it to someone else. I also have heard Celine Dion sing that song in duet with the original singer, also from Australia and damned if I can think of his name, on UTube. Tommy also sings the song Hard Times which is a song he is famous for, though it has been covered by many Irish singers. I was fascinated to note that in the many remembrances on TV yesterday for September 11 (2001) that the pipe band in NYC were wearing kilts and playing Hard Times in the ceremony.
Have any of you ever read Funny Times, a publication from Cleveland OH? It is a very liberal newsletter and full of funny comics and blogs. Andy Borowitz is one of the regular writers, and it is full of funny stuff, especially against "our" Republican politicians. This latest edition, in News of the Weird, has a blurb about hawks attacking folks in South Austin. This is where I live, and just lately I have been hearing about Austin, especially about Sam on this site. Seems he has a new girlfriend (or does he) who lives in Austin (and there sure a lot of people who like to speculate about Sam's love life here. I did not go and see him when he was here on the 10th of Austin. First of all, I was not interested in standing (or sitting on my 3-wheel scooter) in the heat here. Frankly, I did not think my sitting on a scooter would go over well inside a liquor store, nor did I want him to see me in my 82-yo body and face among all the many ladies who were waiting to see him for a few seconds, but I was aware he was here.
Today I watched a couple of Humphrey Bogart movies I have on DVD, then Jersey Boys, I really did like The Four Seasons and the movie about them is good. I also earliers watched movie called Hollywood Canteen, a true story about actors in Hollywood during WW II, and was rather nostalgic with all the movie stars, and remembering I should have been among them, if both my parents hadn't refused to pay for my tuition to the Pasadena Playhouse of Performing Arts. I often think how life might have different if I had gotten my wish to be a movie star - better? maybe. But maybe not, just different sins.
And now I am finishing off my day with the Tommy Fleming double CD. So I have not been bored today.
One other laugh I just had. One of the cartoons in Funny Times shows an airplane flying downward, and then upside down, and then straightening up, and a person telling someone else to turn on the Airplane Mode on their cell phone. You have heard me talk about technology going just a bit too far, especially with cell phones, and I just burst out laughing and am cutting it out and putting it on my fridge.
Love to you all,
Be happy,
Carol in Austin

How YJ and GLTAS Fit (Or Don’t Fit) Together
Because why do something productive with my time?  In general, the Green Lantern franchise is probably the least-utilized of DC’s major properties in YJ, for two very simple reasons: 1) No “young” characters, and 2) They’re OP as hell. Seriously, one of my first exposures to the Justice League was an episode of the Superfriends cartoon where the Legion of Doom went back in time to wipe out the Justice League’s three strongest heroes: Superman, Wonder Woman, and... GREEN LANTERN. Greg Weisman, one of YJ’s two executive producers, has been very upfront about the GLs being OP as hell, and cited this as a reason that they’re often written as being away from Earth (ref: Coldhearted, all of season 2). They wanted their Justice League to exude power, yes, but they also want the kids to be useful! Even with Weisman and Vietti writing around them as much as possible, their overpoweredness STILL got them into trouble with the “missing 16 hours” plot point. Even today, you can check the “Ask Greg” archives or the YJ TV Tropes page and find a bunch of fans whining about why John Stewart didn’t just ask his ring where he’d been for 16 hours. Green Lantern is the definition of “story breaker power.” You think Superman is boring with his 96 billion super strengths and super senses? Green Lanterns can create basically anything they can imagine-- and Earth has FOUR of them in YJ, as of season 4. (Though we don’t know who the fourth one is, technically. It is prooooobably Kyle Rayner, but it could just as easily be any of the other Earth-based lanterns. I’m currently pretending it’s Aya.)    First, let’s take a list of characters we know exist in both series.
Hal Jordan (main character of GLTAS, occasional, mostly-silent cameos in YJ) John Stewart (YJ’s favorite GL with bit parts in a couple of episodes and the video game, namedropped in GLTAS’ final episode) Carol Ferris (recurring character in GLTAS and Hal’s love interest, bit parts in one episode of YJ: Invasion and tie-in comic)  Guy Gardner (recurring character in the 2nd half of GLTAS, bit player in YJ-- speaks more than Hal but only because him being a jackass is funny)  Kilowog (main character of GLTAS, currently guest starring in YJ) Razer (main character of GLTAS, hijacked one episode of YJ and proooobably won’t be back, since he didn’t even touch the actual current plotline)  Tomar Re (bit character in both shows so far)  Mogo (bit character in GLTAS, namedropped in YJ)  Aya (main character of GLTAS, namedropped in YJ)
So, let’s start with Hal.  Hal has spoken two words in YJ. (Technically, he spoke one word twice-- “No,” in response to Guy Gardner joining the Justice League.)
https://youtu.be/MvAgVSamZe8?t=15
This is for the best, as there’s very little to contradict his actions in GLTAS. “Four years ago” places it during season 2, and all we know about Hal’s actions that year is that he spent January - June away from Earth. Presumably, most of that time was on Rimbor, but there’s still plenty of room in the second half of the year for GLTAS to happen. His personality is also a blank slate in YJ. His character design was also updated for season three, giving him a slightly different uniform, distinguished Mr. Fantastic gray temples, and some lines to his face. The law of conservation of detail suggests they did this for a reason, but I’ll be damned if I can imagine what that reason is, given that Hal is basically a nonentity in YJ.
John and Guy present the first real contradiction between the two-- ie, GLTAS depicts Hal as the only GL on Earth at start, while by the analogous time period in YJ, they’ve both been GLs and Justice Leaguers for years.  So “The New Guy” did not happen in YJverse (or if the plotty events did, it wasn’t Hal and Guy’s first meeting-- they’ve known each other for an absolute minimum of 5-6 years by this point, and likely longer). There’s also the fact that Guy was also tied up in the Rimbor stuff.
Guy is also very different-looking between the two. GLTAS is almost a note-for-note translation of his usual comic character design, while YJ goes for a modernized update of a similar idea. He also has a different voice actor, owing to the fact that he was most likely cast before the decision was made to include the GLTAS-inspired events. I also suspect that he will keep his YJ voice if ever used in future episodes-- one of the ways Weisman and Vietti initially differentiated their shows from other DC properties was by avoiding reusing actors. They’ve since relaxed on that front (and reused Bruce Greenwood to start with, anyway), but I imagine they like their version of Guy well enough to keep him the way he is.
John very politely spent that time period actually on trial on Rimbor, so he presents no real conflict of events, except Hal didn’t get to make a Daily Show joke about him, since they’d known each other for years by this point.
Carol’s the one it actually gets interesting for. In YJ, Ferris Aircraft seems to be focused on spacecraft-- her two appearances show her at NASA. She looks very different between the two shows, and again, has a different voice actor. The main question about her is whether or not she has a power ring in the YJverse. YJ Carol is very aware of aliens (her big appearance shows her attempting to broaden communications with Mars). Carol’s appearances in GLTAS were few, but memorable. I suspect she’ll also retain her YJ voice actor, not least because Kari Wahlgren also voices both Saturn Girl and Phantom Girl.
Kilowog and Razer were lifted from GLTAS pretty much exactly as they were, voices included-- Jason Spisak, the workhorse of DC Nation, was already voicing Forager, and Kevin Michael Richardson was already voicing Vykin and Martian Manhunter.
My gut instinct is that they were left in GLTAS form primarily as fanservice. Razer peaces out the first chance he gets, and I personally doubt we’ll see him again any time soon, much as I’d love to be wrong. Kilowog is sticking around for the moment, but he doesn’t seem to be hugely involved in the plot just yet. Weisman and Vietti didn’t feel the need to really personalize their version of him, because he’s not a major player-- or at least that’s my theory.
It is interesting to me that Tomar Re was cast as Dee Bradley Baker. His GLTAS voice actor, Jeff Bennett, is another one of those versatile men-of-a-thousand-voices that huge casts like YJ rely on-- off the top of my head, he voices all of the male Reds, T. O. Morrow, Alfred, and Abra Kadabra. He was also in Gargoyles, so very dear to Weisman’s heart! They could have cast him-- if they wanted to. It isn’t like Guy and Carol, where they made their choice before deciding to incorporate GLTAS. But they chose Tarrlok instead. Obviously, Dee Bradley Baker is a good choice. I suspect that (unlike Kilowog and Razer) Tomar Re is going to be Involved from this point forward, and so Weisman and Vietti made him their own. I mean, he IS on the poster for this arc. He’s gotten some pathos regarding Krypton. Kilowog parented his spacekid and otherwise has not done anything worth mentioning.
Mogo’s only been mentioned as less than Guy Gardner’s ass, and Aya as the subject of Razer’s quest, but questions remain. Could any of the characters YJ actually follows have known or known of Aya? I rather doubt it, much as I would looooove to be wrong here. I remember back on the old YJ Anon fic meme, there was a prompt about Hal bringing Aya to the cave and having her join the team as his sidekick-- but her lack of representation in the grotto leads me to believe she wasn’t known to them.

Something About You Takes Me Home (S8 Group Fic) - Candy Cane
A/N: uhhhhhh dont ask why im so obsessed with s8 rn i couldnt tell u. this fic features a lot of bob&kim bestieship and im. wow i love friendship. anyways pls enjoy!!! <333 and thank u @bogozbinted for spurring me on yet again :33
Summary: 4 times Kim took a picture of someone sleeping, and 1 time a picture was taken of her.
1: Naomi
It’s their fourth night in a row at the library, and the exhaustion of preparing for fall semester midterms is really starting to set in. Kim knows none of them are getting the sleep they usually would, that much is obvious. She’s in the same study room she always is with Naomi, Bob, and Monet, trying to stay as focused as she can on making a decent grade on her English paper. The only thing distracting her is Naomi, who is asleep face first in her notebook.
  Kim feels bad, but she wants to laugh. The table they’re sitting at is covered in notes and textbooks and empty coffee cups, Bob has her earbuds in and is having a staring contest with her laptop, Monet is muttering to herself while looking over flashcards, and Naomi is just… asleep. Dead asleep. Her hair is pulled into a messy ponytail, she’s wearing a university hoodie, and Kim vividly remembers being in the same position her freshman year.
  Midterms are rough, and she really shouldn’t even be considering it, yet she is so tempted. Against her better judgment, Kim pulls out her cellphone and sneakily takes a photo of Naomi in her exhausted state. The coffee cups and scrawling notes in the background of the photo make it all the better.
  Monet notices and raises a questioning eyebrow at her, but Kim just shrugs in response. Monet rolls her eyes while Kim saves the photo to her favorite folder in her camera roll. It will be so funny in a week when this is all said and done and she can use it as a reaction image in her texts with Naomi.
  “You sure are giddy for someone trying to write an A+ English paper,” Bob says, startling Kim enough to make her jump.
  Kim frowns and gestures to Naomi, who is thankfully still sleeping, “Sh! You’ll wake her...”
  “Ah yes, and then you won’t be able to collect more blackmail,” Bob smirks.
  “I’m not going to share it with anyone,” Kim says in an attempt to defend herself, “I’m just going to tease her with it until it gets old.”
  Monet chuckles, “Damn, how thoughtful.”
  Kim giggles, though she tries to stay as quiet as possible, she reallydoesn’t want to wake up her friend. If she she fell asleep studying then she definitely needs the rest.
  “It’s fun,” Kim offers, smiling at the exasperated expressions on her friends’ faces.
  “You are evil, Kimberly,” Bob grins at her.
  “Thank you,” Kim replies proudly.
  A week later, Naomi texts her complaining about how tired she is. Kim sends the picture with the caption, ‘This tired?’
  Naomi: im going to kill you.
  Kim sends back a winky face.
  2: Bob
Kim deeply regrets choosing an 8 a.m. class, especially since its English class. Unfortunately, she desperately needs the credit and this was the only time available to take the class. She supposes it’s not all bad, though, since she’s made really close friends through it. While Bob is the only friend she actually has the class with, Bob has connected her to so many people she wouldn't have met otherwise. Kim is grateful for her friend’s kind heart, she doesn’t know what her semester would look like so far without this friendship that’s for sure.
  As per usual, the two friends are sitting right next to each other while their professor drones on and on about the next piece of literature they’ll be reading for the class. Kim is so bored she might cry, so she leans over to share that important bit of information with Bob only to find her friend has fallen asleep.
  She stifles a giggle by biting her lip, wondering just what Bob was doing last night to fall asleep leaning against her hand during their first class of the day. It’s not like her at all, Bob is the type to diligently take notes and make jokes throughout a lecture. Kim spends a long moment considering if she should wake Bob up, then she lands on a much better idea.
  Covertly, she pulls out her phone and snaps a photo as quick as she can manage. She shoves her phone back into her pocket, excited to add the photo to her folder later. Somehow, this is the first picture she’s gotten of Bob, and she almost feels proud of herself for managing to snag this one. Now that she has her blackmail, Kim decides to wake Bob up.
  “Bob,” Kim whispers urgently, trying to not draw their professor’s attention, “Bob.”
  She frowns as she realizes that is not going to cut it, but for Bob’s sake Kim takes the drastic measures that are necessary for a decent grade in this class.
  “Roberta,” Kim hisses, smiling in victory when Bob’s eyes instantly fly open.
  Bob glares daggers at her, and Kim knows she’s going to get an earful later. Totally worth it. Not only does she have another photo for the books, she also has yet another hilarious story to tell their friends about.
  ‘I hate you,’ Bob mouths at her.
  Kim makes a heart shape with her hands and blows a kiss at Bob, satisfied with her work for the day. It’s still only 8:30 a.m. too, who knows what other teasing she’ll accomplish with a full day ahead of her!
  3: Derrick
Ever since Bob jumped ship and started renting out an apartment, Kim finds herself there more often than not. She’s not sure why, she likes her dorm room just fine and she doesn’t have to deal with a roommate either, but she still seems to gravitate towards that little apartment just around the corner from campus. Maybe it’s all the good memories that have been made there in just two short months, maybe she just has really good friends.
  Regardless, today is another one of those days she finds herself at the apartment, curled up on the couch watching the newest episodes of “Real Housewives of Atlanta” with Derrick. She tries not to think too hard about the fact neither of them live here and they’re the only ones in the apartment right now. Sure, the three roommates have an “open door” policy of sorts for their closest friends, but Kim still feels awkward despite Bob insisting it’s okay.
  She glances from the door to her phone every few minutes, waiting for an update of some kind from Bob, who was supposed to be back five minutes ago. Kim nervously bounces her knee, trying to just forget her nerves and just watch the show with Derrick. They never get to hang out much anymore, and she does like his company.
  The anxiety of waiting for Bob to come back grows to be too much for her, though, and she turns to Derrick to voice her concerns. As soon as she’s opened her mouth she realizes he’s asleep, and is a little stunned she didn’t notice sooner. He had been suspiciously quiet for the last few minutes, after all.
  Briefly, she wonders what made him tired enough to fall asleep. Derrick is an incredibly hard worker, so she can only assume that has something to do with it. With a smirk she pulls out her phone’s camera to capture another picture for her collection. This one has to be a new favorite of hers, since his head is thrown back and his mouth is slightly open causing him to look cartoon-ish.
  “Finally home!” Bob announces loudly as she marches into the apartment with her backpack slung over her should and a couple grocery bags in hand.
  Derrick is startled awake and he glances around the living room wildly, until he sees where Kim still has her phone pointed at him with a cheeky smile on her face.
  “Really?” he asks her tiredly.
  “It’s a good picture,” Kim says.
  Derrick just groans, and she can’t help her laughter at his dramatic reaction.
  “Love you!” she chirps, texting her new picture to Naomi.
  “...Love you too,” he relents, settling back down into the couch, reminding her exactly why she’s missed him so much. She never saw herself becoming friends with him, and yet here they are. Kim wonders if Derrick ever thought the same of her, but decides she doesn’t care. All that matters now is the friendships they do have.
4, Thorgy
A couple of weeks before spring break, Bob, Thorgy, and Betty host a party at their apartment complete with snacks, karaoke, beer pong, and way too much alcohol. The guests were mostly just close friends, which Kim was relieved to learn about once she actually showed up to the party with Naomi. She hadn’t originally wanted to go but Naomi and Bob had practically begged her to, and she always has a hard time saying no to the two of them.
  People had started to leave or pass out somewhere in the apartment around 3 a.m., and by 5 a.m. everything is quiet again. Kim is certain she’s the only one left awake, since Naomi is passed out on the other end of the couch from all the vodka she drank. Kim gets the feeling they’ll be here a while to wait out her hangover after she wakes up, so she gets up to go looking around to see who else is still at the apartment to sate her curiosity.
  Only a little exploration reveals Betty in her bedroom with three people Kim doesn’t recognize spread across her room in various positions in various places. Then she finds Bob, Monet, and Tiana in Bob’s room sprawled out on the floor for reasons she can’t begin to understand. Kim starts to get worried, though, when Thorgy isn’t in her own room but two other people are.
  Now on a brand new mission, Kim starts to look in every corner of the apartment for Thorgy. She starts with the bathrooms, which are all empty except for some girl whose passed out in Bob’s bathtub. Kim then goes looking in the kitchen, which turns up empty. She’s starting to get really frustrated when she walks through the small dining room area and spots Thorgy laying underneath the table.
  Kim laughs quietly to herself, and considers waking Thorgy up and making her go lay down somewhere that’s not the floor. She’d seen how drunk everyone had gotten, however, and she decides it’s not worth it. People are grouchy when they’re hungover, and Kim doesn’t want to have to deal with that sooner than she has to. Also, Thorgy has the most intense puppy eyes when asked to do something she doesn’t want to and moving from underneath the table while transitioning from drunk to hungover will certainly be on that list.
  There is one thing she can do. Without a second thought to it, Kim pulls out her phone and takes a couple of pictures of Thorgy from a few different angles. Once she’s satisfied, Kim pockets her phone again and turns around to go back to the couch, this time she stumbles into Bob.
  “Oh! I thought you were asleep,” Kim whispers, still trying not to wake anyone up.
  Bob shrugs, “I was in and out, but then I heard you walking around, wanted to make sure everything’s okay.”
  “Yeah, everything’s fine,” Kim smiles, “I was just trying to find everyone. Thorgy is under the table, by the way.”
  Bob sighs and pinches the bridge of her nose, “Of course she fucking is.”
  “She’s going to hate herself in the morning.”
  “Aren’t we all?” Bob chuckles, “C’mon, lets go to sleep.”
  Kim follows her friend to the couch that Naomi is still passed out on. Bob sits down in the middle of it, then opens her arms invitingly, Kim sits down and cuddles up beside her. She doesn’t usually care for this type of affection, she had originally chalked up the itching desire beneath her skin for hugs to lack of sleep. Magically Bob had picked up on that, and cuddling into her friend’s side Kim is reminded of how lucky she is to have friends who care about her so much.
  +1, Kim
Naomi quickly walks up the steps leading to Bob’s apartment, anxious to get inside as quickly as she can. She had been laying in her bed eagerly waiting on a text back from Kim when Bob had called her and demanded she come over to the apartment immediately, saying something about an emergency. She had left her dorm room in a matter of minutes and practically sprinted all the way to Bob’s apartment.
  Now, she pounds on the door, slightly out of breath, all sorts of awful scenarios of what could be wrong playing in her head. The door is swung open, and Bob is grinning like a kid in a candy store.
  “Come in but be quiet,” Bob says, holding the door open for her.
  “What?” Naomi asks with a frown, entering the apartment cautiously.
  Everything appears to be normal, but she also knows how crazy the three people who live here are so she tries not to get her hopes up.
  “My room,” Bob says, grabbing Naomi’s hand and pulling her there.
  Oddly enough, Thorgy and Betty are standing in the doorway to Bob’s room, holding back giggles and whispering to each other conspiratorially.
  “Shh!” Bob chides them, voice barely above a whisper, “Get back!”
  Thorgy rolls her eyes, “She has literally been asleep for eighteen hours, there’s no way we can wake her up by talking.”
  “Just move,” Bob says, and her two roommates relent.
  Naomi is finally able to see through into the room, and is shocked to see Kim asleep in Bob’s bed, completely dead to the world. This is so unlike her that Naomi is speechless, Kim is so careful with how she appears to the people around her and for her to just be asleep in a friend’s bed for eighteen hours? Naomi doesn’t know how to react.
  “She showed up yesterday morning,” Bob starts quietly, “I think she overdid it on the studying for a test she had.”
  Naomi nods, trying to process it all, “So she… fell asleep?”
  “Yeah, she said it had been thirty hours since she slept or something ridiculous like that. I told her she could sleep here as long as she wanted and then this happened.”
  Naomi chuckles a bit, and pulls her phone out of her pocket with an evil grin on her face, and she quickly snaps a few pictures, and Bob crosses her arms over her chest disapprovingly.
  “What? It’s revenge,” Naomi frowns at Bob.
  Bob rolls her eyes, “Oh please, you think I haven’t already gotten twenty pictures of her?”
  “She’s going to be so mad,” Naomi says, already looking forward to the banter she’ll have with her best friend about finally getting some blackmail of her own.
  “Oh, yeah, for sure,” Bob agrees, “She sure does look lonely, though.”
  Naomi shares a look with her that confirms they’re both thinking the same thing. The two carefully crawl into the bed with Kim, cuddling up against her and each other in a classic cuddle pile. Naomi presses her face into Kim’s shoulder, relishing her new friendships. She’s so glad she chose to go to college.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jungkook is new to this whole relationship thing, like for real for real. He constantly wants everything to be perfect and to go smoothly but what happens when your ex makes an appearance at the bar you’re all at? And you haven’t mentioned that Jungkook is your boyfriend now not just your best friend.
Jungkook needs you to say something before he does and if he is the one who has to do it he’s going to somehow feel like a dick. You’ve drank just enough to become that right amount of tipsy, right amount meaning you find everything funny. Your ex isn’t even that funny? Your ex also bellows over every now and then when you talk and Jungkook thinks damn are you even that funny? Like, why is he laughing so much? Jungkook looks over at the two of you and awkwardly smiles. He reaches his hand out and squeezes your thigh but you barely react! You continue talking to what’s his face and what’s his face completely ignores Jungkook’s obvious territorial hand.
“And you live there now? That’s amazing!” You yell out over the music, “Jungkook and I live—”
“Wow, you two still live together?” What’s his face asks and Jungkook is nodding his head, not amused with the conversation.
“Oh, we recently just started living together again.” You mention shyly.
“Oh? You two always have been really close.”
“Oh, actually we are—”
“y/n!!” Jimin runs up to you three at the bar, he breathes out heavily from all the dancing he’s done tonight.
“Hi.” You slightly slur towards your friend.
“Come and dance with me and Tae!” He gives what’s his face a quick nod. “You too, Jungkook.” He says now facing Jungkook and his face immediately falls when he notices Jungkook’s tense state. But then he’s smirking.
“Want to come dance with us too?” Jimin asks what’s his face and Jungkook groans out loud, literally out loud.
Jungkook is trying to behave. Being a boyfriend is new to him and his relationship with you is still fresh. But when is he allowed to show the world you’re his. He wants to show this entire bar of people that you belong to him. Oh god, is that possessive? Jungkook groans into his hands, sighing out in frustration. He doesn’t want to come across as possessive…is that annoying? Or maybe you find it sexy? He doesn’t fucking know!
But what he does know is he’s starting to get real pissed off at the way your ex leans into your space every time you two giggle. Jungkook scoots his bar stool closer to you and his arm pulls you into his side. You turn your head to face him and you smile. Jungkook melts right then and there as soon as he sees your lips curve into some dopey ass grin and he tightens his grip around your waist.
“What’s up baby?” you chirp happily.
“Come sit in my lap.” Jungkook softly commands, he’s already dragging you over to him and you barely protest.
“Why? So we can watch you two make out?” You hear Jimin whine from behind you three. “Again.”
Your ex watches you two with careful eyes and nods towards all of you,
“I’ll see you guys on the dance floor.”
Did Jungkook not make his point? Was this not super obvious? Should he have kissed you in front of him? Fuck you on this bar top to make a point?
You know that phrase when you’re angry… “All I see is red”? Well, Jungkook never understood that. He would think “How the fuck do you see red?” but now, he’s sort of starting to understand.
Because he sees nothing but cloudy red waves in his vision or at least a really bold orange color. He wouldn’t call this anger…no, more like pure fucking annoyance and irritation. And you? You have no idea…
“y/n” Jimin calls for you, “Let’s go dance!”
“Yeah, let’s dance!!” Taehyung claps his hands excitedly as he makes his way you to guys.
Jungkook tongues the inside of his cheek as he looks between all of you. He just got you in his lap, surely you won’t say yes.
“Yes!” you yell out over the music. “You coming babe?” You look at Jungkook who just shakes his head slowly.
“You sure?” you ask, “I can stay if you want..”
“No, it’s okay baby. Go, have fun. I’m just going to drink.” He squeezes your thigh and you smile, leaning down to kiss him.
You stand from his lap, and you, Jimin and Taehyung make your way to the dance floor. You guys find a spot in the center, many bodies covering Jungkook’s view of you and it’s admittedly driving him nuts. He wants to at least to be able to see you. But alas, he has no view.
Maybe 30 minutes and 4 whiskeys later Jungkook has decided he has had enough, he’s going to just go to the dance floor and have a good time. He slowly approaches you three when he sees there’s a fourth person. Your fucking ex. And he’s trying his hardest to dance with you and you are barely fucking noticing. This guy has the audacity to snake a hand around your waist to steady you, but his hand lingers—And Jungkook now, finally really does see red.
Because what the fuck?
“y/n!” He calls out for you but you don’t hear him, you’re too lost in the music. You sway your hips from side to side, your hands in your hair and this dude goes behind you and tries dancing with you some more.
“y/n!” he finally gets to you and you open your eyes and give him a smile.
“Hi.” You slur out. Just slightly.
“Come here.” He reaches for your wrist when the dude stops Jungkook with the booming of his loud voice.
“Can’t you see we’re dancing?”
Red. Fiery red.
“Mine.” He growls. He tightens his grip on your wrist and you finally register something is wrong.
“What’s going on?” your innocent voice doesn’t do much to help Jungkook’s anger, just fuels it.
“We’re going home.” He says lowly, giving both Jimin and Taehyung a curt nod and turning around to face you. “Now.”
“But I don’t want to go home.” You whine, basically stomping your feet. “I want to dance with my friends, and you.”
“No.” he groans, his voice deeper than usual. “We’re going home and we’re having a talk.”
“Can’t we just talk here?” you fold your arms over your chest, “I don’t want to go home.”
“y/n.” Jungkook warns. “Don’t choose now to be a brat.”
“So what if I’m bratty?” you pout, “What are you going to do?” you can’t help but challenge him. Jungkook quirks a brow at you and frowns.
“You want to be this way? Fine.” Jungkook turns towards the other side of the bar, dragging you along with him. He’s walking like he’s on a god damn mission and you’re struggling to follow behind him thanks to your heels.
“You’re sure about this?” Jungkook snaps his head to speak to you.
“Sure about what?” you feel intimidated by his dark gaze, he looks at you with narrowed eyes and you shudder.
“You sure you won’t just listen to me?”
“Nope, don’t wanna.”
“Didn’t think so.” And with that Jungkook pulls you into the hall where the bathrooms are and knocks on one of the doors. When there’s no answer he swings open the door and lightly shoves you inside.
“Still gonna be a brat? Still won’t listen?”
“So what if I am?” you answer his first question, “What are you going to—” Jungkook cuts you with his lips on yours. He adds a lot of pressure into the kiss like he’s mad and desperate. His fingers drag up the front of your body until they’re crawling up your throat and wrapping around it. You gasp when he lightly squeezes. His other hand makes it way to your ass, he grabs onto it and pushes you into his crotch.
“Jungkook—”
“No.” Jungkook breaths out heavily, “I’m going to show you what happens when you don’t listen.”
Jungkook goes back to kissing you, his tongue expertly exploring your mouth. You moan into his mouth and he pulls back from you.
“Bend over.” His deep voice commands. He looks at you with a serious and dark expression.
“W-What?”
“I said, bend over.”
You stare at Jungkook with disbelief filling your eyes. Surely he isn’t going to…no, there’s no way. These walls are paper thin and—
“Bend over baby.” He says a little more softly. “I’m going to spank you because you aren’t being a good girl.” He explains. “Only bad girls get spanked.”
“And I’m…bad?” you stutter out.
“Very.” Jungkook’s eyes grow even darker as he stares down at you, he licks his lips as he watches you shake your head.
“Jungkook, people will hear—”
“Who’s fault is that?”
“My…fault?”
“That’s right baby, you are mine. And I want you to be reminded of that.”
“I know I’m yours though…”
Jungkook chuckles bitterly, his hands going to his pants pockets.
“You need to let others know that too.” He nods his head in the direction of the bar, “People can get the wrong idea if you aren’t clear.”
“Babe…” you begin to blush, the idea of Jungkook spanking you in a bar bathroom gets you feeling really fucking hot.
“Now, be a good girl and bend over.” His sly smile grows on his face as he watches you bend over for him.
“L-Like this?” you ask, your hands on your knees as you shove your ass in the air. You whimper when you feel his hand go to grab a handful of your ass.
“Just like that baby.” He smiles, “Now lift your skirt for me and take off your panties.”
Your eyes go wide, he’s going to spank you bare?
“Now.”
There’s something about Jungkook that you listen…his voice, his gaze…god, you want him to fuck you.
You slip off your panties and lift your skirt over your hips, your ass proudly displayed.
“Give me your panties.” Jungkook commands, and you do. You hand him the piece of thin fabric and he stuffs them in his front pocket.
“Good girl.” He smirks, “I’m going to spank you 5 times okay?”
Before you can answer you feel his hand come down on your ass hard.
“This is all mine, right?”
Spank.
“No one else is allowed to even touch you, got it?”
Spank.
“Any other guys allowed to touch you?”
You release a high pitched moan as a response and Jungkook chuckles darkly, he shakes his head in disapproval.
“Words baby. I’ll ask you again…Any other guys allowed to touch you?”
Spank.
“N-No!” You whimper out, your legs are shaking. You feel the ache between your legs with each slap he offers your ass. Jungkook massages your cheeks, his fingers sliding down until he’s playing at your pussy.
“My girl getting wet from this?” He whispers to himself, his fingers gathering your juices and he plays at your clit causing you to moan loudly. Your whines bouncing off the bathroom walls.
“One more spank baby.”
His fingers leave your pussy, he brings his fingers to his mouth and sucks them clean. Then he’s rubbing your cheeks again.
“P-Please Jungkook…” You practically beg for him to spank you and he laughs at how desperate you are for his touch.
“You’re all mine. Say it.”
“All you—”
And his hand is coming down on your ass for the last time, the sound echoes in the bathroom and you’re crying out in pleasure.
“Good girl.” Jungkook rubs your ass lovingly, “Should I fuck you now? Will you be so loud that this whole bar knows who you belong to?” He continues to massage where he hit.
“P-Please.” You beg, “Fuck me, Jungkook.”
“No.” he answers quickly. “ Your punishment is just beginning. You have to wait til we get home.”
“Jungkook…” You drag out his name between your teeth, you wiggle your ass in attempt to lure him into fucking you but it doesn’t work. He just laughs and spanks you lightly.
“Put your skirt back down and lets go.”
“I need to clean up…” You admit. Jungkook’s eyes travels to the your inner thighs where your slick has dripped.
“No.” Jungkook says softly, his eyes boring into your pussy. “I will do it.”
Jungkook goes behind you and squats to his knees, his face has that perfect view of your pussy. He holds on to your hips as he leans in, his tongue darting out to lick you clean. Your whole body goes tense at the contact, you want to be quiet. You need to be quiet. But god, his tongue feels so fucking good.
“Don’t stop!” you scream out, the pleasure taking its toll on your weak body, “Please!”
And Jungkook doesn’t stop, he continues licking at you, swirling his tongue over your clit, licking it, sucking it, and making it ache. The buildup happens so fucking fast, you don’t know if it’s because you two haven’t had sex since two days ago, or because you know people can hear you or because he’s just that fucking good.
“God, Jungkook…yes…yes…” You cry out, “So good baby.” You praise him and he groans into your pussy.
“I’m all yours!”
You can feel you orgasm quickly announcing its arrival, it has your toes curling and your legs shaking but right before you can fucking taste it…Jungkook detaches his mouth from you making everything just stop. It dies down so fast that you are left so dissatisfied.
“What the fuck?!” you yell, “I was just about to come!”
“I know.” He says with a smirk. “Only good girls get to come.”
“Jungkook, you asshole!” you say out of breath, you feel so incomplete. “I’ll be a good girl, I promise. I promise.” You repeat over and over, “Please let me come.”
“Maybe later tonight. Now let’s go.”
~~~~~~~
“Whatcha got there?” you ask Jungkook, he stands in front of you with something behind his back.
“3 questions for you baby…how do you feel about blindfolds?” he shows you the silky material in his hand and you feel your pussy ache.
“How do you feel about being tied up?” he shows you more silky material and then he winks at you. “And what’s your safe word?”
“I look forward to both,” you release a long breath “And Jupiter.”
He moves behind you, pulling your hair to the side and pressing soft kisses on the side of your neck. You moan at the feeling of his lips caressing your exposed skin. He then slowly drags his tongue on the delicate expanse of your throat and sucks bruises.
With his lips brushing against your ears, he whispers “I need you to trust me, okay bad girl?”
“I do trust you.”
Jungkook holds out the silky material out in front of your face and you shiver in anticipation, your pussy clenching at the sight. He carefully pulls it over your eyes and ties a knot behind your head, leaving you completely sightless. You see absolutely nothing.
“From now on when we meet people you introduce me, okay?” he says softly.
“Yes sir,” you whisper out and he groans, loving the name.
He presses himself up against your ass and you can feel how hard he is, god it’s driving you insane.
Jungkook leaves your body, making you feel lost without his touch…a few moments pass and you start to become antsy until you feels your arms being pulled back behind you and the feeling of silk wrap around your wrists.
“You’re all mine, right?”
“All yours…”
You stand at the foot of your shared bed in nothing but your lacey bra and panties, while being restrained in silk. He had you dress up for him. Jungkook stands by the wall, leaning against it as he admires you. You look so beautiful, so lost, so needy.
“Jungkook?” you call out, wondering where he has gone. His footsteps are light so you don’t feel him walk towards you but your body goes absolutely tense when you feel his finger tip drag extremely slowly across your bare stomach. You shudder at the contact that you were not expecting. You breathe in and out trying to calm yourself, anticipating his next move.
“Jungkook…” you whimper and he darkly chuckles. He presses himself against you and leans in to whisper in your ear.
“What do you want?”
“Your cock.” You admit through harsh breaths. “Want you to fuck me.”
“You really think you deserve my cock yet? I want to play with you first.”
Then he’s stepping away, all his heat gone with him. You’re left cold and lonely and trying to steady your breaths…you didn’t realize how intense this was going to be.
“Jungkook.” You whine, “I need you.”
But you don’t sense him near you at all, you begin to become antsy again. That is until you feel his feather like touch grazing across your stomach again and a long moan drags out between your lips. You feel him get closer to you, his fingers traveling to your breasts. He feels your hardening buds through the thin material of your bra and he grunts in approval. His hand travels south until his fingers are sliding down your stomach. He grips your hips tightly causing you to groan.
“Want to get touched baby girl?” He whispers over your lips and you cry out.
His fingers drag down to your covered pussy, touching your dampening folds.
“My god, you are soaked.” He comments. “You love when I touch you, don’t you?”
You only nod your head frantically but Jungkook grabs a hold of your jaw and says, “Not uh uh. Words, baby.”
“Loved being touched by you.” You whine.
“Let’s lie you down.”
He takes you by the shoulder and leads you down to lay in the middle of the bed, treating you so fucking delicately.
Jungkook steps away to remove all his clothing, leaving him in nothing but the skin he wears. He crawls onto the bed, momentarily hovering over you and leaning down until he’s kissing your throat again and sucking bruises into your neck.
“Have to mark you so others know you are taken.”
The sensation of his wet tongue leaves a chill behind in its tracks, giving you goosebumps all across your body. You release a few shaky breaths at the feeling.
“You’re my pretty girl.” Jungkook slides down the bed until he’s hovering over your hips, his hot breath fans over your desperate, needy cunt and you can’t help but cry out how badly you need him.
“Going to be a good girl for me?” He questions and you scream yes over and over.
Jungkook spreads your legs wide apart and lays down with his face just inches away from where you fucking need him. He lets the anticipation build for a moment as he fans his hot breath over your pussy, before he playfully moves the lace material to the side and licks a long strip between your folds. You can’t help the moan you let out at the contact of his warm tongue finally on your aching clit.
“Only I get you this wet?”
“Only you.” You pant out.
“That’s right baby.” He connects his lips to your clit and wraps them around it and sucks lightly. Being blindfolded has your senses going into overdrive, the sensations too fucking powerful. He licks, and sucks on your clit, each lap of his tongue sending you over the edge. Getting you closer and closer and ah, fuck. You can come, you want to come, you’re so fucking close…but then he pulls away again leaving you fucking frustrated.
“Jungkook!” You cry out, your body betraying you.
He’s silent, its making you feel even more on edge.
“Please baby, I’m so close.” You beg him, you feel overly sensitive.
Suddenly, you feel his fingers being shoved deliciously into your wet pussy, you cry out in surprise and pleasure as he curls his fingers into you. You’re moaning incoherently by now, not able to get out any real words as he finger fucks you.
“That’s it baby.” He praises, not slowing down. “Want my cock now?”
“Yes, fucking please, yes!” You beg. “Need you to fuck me, please fuck me. God, please fuck me.” Your words spill out of your mouth and Jungkook chuckles.
“Only because you’ve been so good.”
He lifts your legs and wraps them around his waist, you anticipate the feel of cock but Jungkook takes his sweet time.
He takes his throbbing cock in his hand and lines it up to your entrance, you moan at the feeling of him touching you but it’s not enough.
“Please.” You beg him again.
Jungkook very fucking slowly starts inserting his member into you, one inch at a time. You choke on air as you feel him start to bottom out. He feels incredible. You feel so full, you feel so satisfied. You wish he would stay inside you like this forever.
Jungkook falls forward, releasing short, deep breaths as he feels the way your walls tighten around him.
“So tight.” He mentions in a husky voice. “So fucking tight.”
He takes a moment to be inside you like this, breathing harshly into the crook of your neck. You start to get uncomfortable with your hands behind your back.
“Please, let me touch you.”
“You were bad tonight.” Jungkook breathes out, “You think you get to touch me?” He says while sliding his cock out of you before he’s slamming it back in. You whine and moan and feel so fucking overwhelmed.
“Please!”
Jungkook thrusts in and out of you over and over, his cock brushing that special spot inside that’s got you seeing stars. He knows exactly what he’s doing. He’s gotten to know your body over the last couple of months and he has not disappointed.
“Jungkook!” You scream his name and he grins down at you, loving his view. “Fuuuccckkkk.” You groan out as he continues fucking you faster and harder. His moans are no better than yours, his whine and whimpers filling the room. You feel so fucking good and look so fucking beautiful.
“Fuck, I’m going to come.” Jungkook admits, not slowing down. “Come with me?” he softly commands and you cry out in frustration.
“Let me touch you! Let me see you!”
“Not this time, my love.” His voice is strained as he tries to hold on for you, his fingers finding your clit as he rubs quick circles on it, getting you there faster.
“Fuck, please come,” he begs. “You’re allowed to come now baby” and you finally let go. You release moan after desperate moan. Your orgasm hitting you so fucking hard that it leaves you shaking and breathless. Jungkook finally comes as well, his hips stilling as he shoots his cum deep within you.
“Good girl, good girl.” He pants out, his body collapsing on top of yours. He stays inside you for a few moments as you both calm down. He caresses your cheek, his hand going to the back of your head as he slowly unties the blindfold…it falls from your face and your eyes are stained black with smeared makeup. He chuckles at the view, he finds you so fucking sexy.
“Good girl.” He says again, leaning in to kiss your lips. You kiss back instantly, and smile at him as you pull away.
“Untie me.” You request, and Jungkook lifts himself off you and helps you sit up. He unties the silk restraints around your wrists and throws the material off to the side.
“You did so good baby.” He leans in to kiss your cheek and you blush.
“All this because I didn’t introduce you to Ian?”
Ian, that’s that bastards name, Jungkook thinks.
“He was trying to dance with you…” Jungkook pouts, “He didn’t understand that you are mine.”
“I’ll be more cautious next time.” You promise. “And speaking of next time,” you say with a smirk, “It’ll be you tied up and blindfolded, not me.” You leave a quick kiss to his lips.
“Fuck, I would like that a lot.”
“Oh baby, I know.”

“What happened to that girl you took home the other night from The Lace Rabbit?” Harrison asked as he ordered his lunch before he took a seat at the table with Tom. It was typical for them to meet up during the week on their lunch breaks and catch up when they were not busy being wingmen for the other while bar hopping on the weekends.
Tom shrugged off Harrison’s question as he took a bite of his sandwich, “She got a little clingy so I had Y/N help me get rid of her,” he smiled as he said your name out loud. His friends knew of you as the hot girl who lived next door who bailed him out of sticky situations. Always teasing Tom how he could never actually get you. The irony made it all too funny for him, “How’d it go with that blonde girl?” he asked to change the subject off of him.
He didn’t know if he should bring up the two of you sleeping together with Harrison. Harrison was his best friend and wouldn’t judge but he knew he’d give Tom shit for it. He’d want to know details of your arrangement or how it came about, if you were really that good and Tom didn’t feel comfortable answering that. Not if it was about you. He didn’t want his other friends knowing about you in the way he did. That was personal between you both and he wanted to show you he respected you.
“It didn’t,” Harrison admitted while taking a sip of his water. He let out a chuckle as he felt himself blushing, “Forgot her name and she spilt her drink on me. Can’t say I didn’t deserve that one,” he at least knew when he was in the wrong.
Tom cringed into his sandwich as he let out a cackle, “You definitely deserved it, mate,” he laughed with another bite. His phone vibrated in his pocket but he chose to ignore it, knowing like clock work what it probably was. It was going to ruin the rest of his day and he at least wanted to enjoy lunch with his friend before getting pissed off for the day.
“She’d probably love you,” Harrison teased.
“Fuck off,” Tom rolled his eyes with a laugh. “I’m not taking your angry seconds.”
“Don’t knock angry sex til you try it,” Harrison smirked knowingly.
Tom shook his head as he once again ignored the phone ringing, “I think I’m good, thanks,” he brushed it off with another eyeroll.
He didn’t know why he suddenly felt weird talking about their last venture out at the club. Maybe it was because Tom knew where he ended up after that girl had left and he knew what that meant for the both of you. But Tom wasn’t done with his bachelor days, and even you knew that. Hell, you practically insisted since this was a no strings attached deal.
It just felt strange not telling Harrison about you. Like it was a weird secret. But at the same time, he felt oddly protective of you. Not wanting his friends to see you as some girl he was getting laid with. Or worse, a potential love interest. He knew it wasn’t going to happen. Hell would be freezing over before Tom decided on any sort of long term obligation. But he knew his friends and he knew they wouldn’t see this is a simple agreement between two friends. And he didn’t want to deal with that conversation.
Staying quiet was the better option. For his own sanity. And...well, would you care if he told anyone about this? Tom figured that was another rule he’d have to ask about. He didn’t want to overstep any boundaries and he knew you had a list of rules as well that he was happy to follow. As long as that meant one thing and one thing only: non-exclusive.
Harrison noticed Tom’s phone buzzing for the third time. And Tom ignored it for the third time. He checked the message with a huff of his breath before turning the screen face down on the table, going back to his lunch before he had to get back to work.
“Clingy girl?” Harrison nodded towards Tom’s phone.
Tom shook his head, “My mother was supposed to visit this weekend but you know the routine,” he mumbled into his food, not even wanting to respond to her.
“Let me guess,” Harrison began, knowing exactly where this was going since he knew Tom’s whole story inside and out. Including the bits he hated to discuss which was mainly his family, “Going skiing with Clint in Veil instead?” he questioned knowingly.
Tom scoffed out a laugh at his guess, “Surfing with Clint in Malibu but same shit,” he corrected as he tried not to let it get to him. But even Harrison could tell he was getting bothered by it once again and who could honestly blame him.
 Always the same story every time no matter what and Tom grew tired of her antics. He couldn’t even blame Clint for it anymore considering she’d been this way since he was a kid before he was even in the picture. Only now she would just use him as the perfect excuse to get out of coming to visit.
He knew he shouldn’t care anymore but he couldn’t help it. It wasn’t something easy for him to simply let go of. It was his mother. And no matter how many times he’d try she would always give him back the bare minimum and it always made him upset. She was his one final connection to him and she could care less about any of it, so why did Tom? It always got under his skin and he loathed that it did.
But he would still invite her. No matter how miserable it made him.
“Well at least now you’re free this weekend,” Harrison broke his thought while he gathered their garbage before they headed back to work, “The usual at The Lace Rabbit this Saturday then?” he suggested with a knowing smile to try and get Tom out of his mood.
Grabbing his phone, Tom clutched it tightly as he inhaled sharply. Knowing his change of plans meant doing his normal routine even though he was looking forward to the slight change this weekend, which now just seemed bleak to him
.
“Yeah,” Tom agreed as he tapped your name on his phone but hesitated when he saw his mother trying to call for a fourth time, “The usual this weekend.”
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Your chest tensed as you got into your car after your extremely long day in the office. Everything around you felt heavy and you couldn’t wait to get home as soon as you could but you found yourself still frozen in your car. Unable to move as the moments from earlier this afternoon invaded your thoughts once again while you tried your best to move in. Even though you knew you were completely grief stricken and didn’t know what the hell to do.
The promotion was yours, at least you had thought it was by the way your boss would constantly hint at it. You knew it was never a definite thing, but you were confident in the hard work you had put into your job and knew you were a top contender for the spot. You worked longer hours, took on extra tasks, you even worked on the occasional weekend to get your work done. Taking every precaution necessary to prove that you were the best fit for the role.
Everything felt like it was lining up for you. Co-workers were giving you a pat on the back for your work accomplishments, your boss was taking note of everything you were doing, and you overall felt really good about where you stood for the potential position. So imagine your surprise when you attended the big luncheon and your boss announced his undeserving son was getting the spot instead of you.
It was both nepotism and misogyny rolled into one and it made your stomach turn the longer you had thought about it. None of it made any sense and it was far from fair. You knew you were the one more deserving of the position, the whole office knew it. Even your damn boss knew but he chose his damn son over you and it felt like a stab right to your gut.
You felt so betrayed and beside yourself as you finally decided to head home. Tears streamed down your cheeks while you tried to focus on the road but you just couldn’t ignore the facts. How were you going to be able to show up and take orders now from your boss’ son? You knew the job more than he did and it felt like a huge screw you.
On your drive home, you tried to make yourself feel better by putting on some music to distract yourself but nothing helped. You felt beyond defeated and frustrated right now you didn’t know what was going to make you feel better at the moment. It felt like the world was against you. Between finding Justin with another woman and your job, you were really batting one thousand lately and you weren’t sure when you would catch a break.
Things were not going how you planned at all. The thought of just quitting your job and starting all over again crossed your mind but the fear of the unknown kept haunting you. You didn’t know which direction to go in or who to turn to for advice anymore. You were slowly drowning and you needed someone to throw you a goddamn life jacket already.
You were relieved to finally be home. Maybe some peace and quiet would make you feel a little better, you thought to yourself while you kicked your shoes off and turned some music on for yourself. Trying to put the day behind you and focus on the present moment while you got changed into more comfortable clothes to unwind.
You jumped out of your skin when you heard a knock at your door, not expecting anybody to come by right now. Pulling your hair up into a bun, you headed back towards the door and looked through the peephole. To your surprise, you weren’t really surprised at all. You were actually sort of relieved when you opened the door and saw Tom standing there holding a pizza box.
“That better have extra cheese,” you asked with a narrowed expression while you invited him inside with the pizza that he would always bring you even in normal times.
Placing the box on the kitchen table, Tom opened it with a grin as he showed you the pizza pie with cheese practically oozing from the crusts, “Figured it was an extra toppings sort of day,” he admitted, knowing he really needed the escape from reality. Even if it was just a pizza.
“Tell me about it,” you sighed as you grabbed a piece closest to you as Tom handed you a paper plate. You headed over towards your refrigerator to grab you both a few beers while Tom leaned up against your kitchen counter as he devoured his slice, “I’m guessing you had a bad day judging by your pizza presentation?” knowing there wasn’t really any particular reason he’d be coming over with it today. Unless if he wanted something?
You slowed your pace back from the fridge wondering if he was going to pick up on how you were feeling. You weren’t entirely sure if you wanted him to notice. Whenever you and Tom had a pizza night it was merely to gossip about your lunatic neighbors or watch a game together. You talked about casual things but never really gone into depth or prying into each other’s lives. Why did it feel like suddenly you wanted something different? Would sex change that much in your friendship?
“We can just ignore that...we don’t have to talk about unimportant stuff,” you waved it off. Tom didn’t need to hear about your miserable day. And you didn’t want to pry into his.
He swallowed the last bite of his slice, “If something makes you upset, it’s not unimportant,” he noted. But when he noticed you just looking at him, he raised his hands in surrender. “Ignore my philosophical ass. But I’d like to hear about your day, you know,” he laughed it off.
What the hell was he doing? He thought to himself. Don’t let personal shit ruin this. Enjoy her company. That’s it.
“I didn’t get the promotion,” you told him. You had mentioned to Tom a while ago that your boss was hinting at it but you never went into detail with him about it. You weren’t used to Tom actually wanting to be open or the other way around. And you’d be lying if you said you weren’t slightly surprised Tom even gave a crap about stuff like this.
Tom frowned at your answer and he felt his heart sink a bit when you told him the truth about your bad day. He didn’t know much about your job but he was sure you were a hard worker. He saw how much you loved your job and how passionate you were about it when it would come up. You would share upcoming projects with him from time to time and he would see the look on your face whenever you explained them to him. So hearing that you were passed by for a promotion was upsetting to him.
“I...shit, Y/N,” he put his pizza down as he walked over towards to give you a hug. Sliding his hands around your waist he pulled you into him as he felt you relax against his chest, “You didn’t deserve that,” he added softly.
You allowed Tom to embrace you, his warmness comforting you a bit before you pulled away and started crying when telling him about your boss’ son getting the job instead of you. Making you laugh by calling him every name in the book, you and Tom finally found a common ground as you kept venting to him.
Tom pulled away slowly, his hand resting at your chin while he licked his lips, “You’re boss sounds like a fucking prick, I hope you know that,” he told you reassuringly. The small smile you formed when he spoke made him want to keep making you feel better, “I’m glad you’re smiling,” he blushed at his confession.
Stretching your mouth wider, you flashed Tom a playful yet overly wide grin to deflect the attention he gave to you. The two of you laughed as Tom pulled away with a loud chuckle, shaking his head at your sudden silliness, “That has to be the most hideous smile. But we’ll work on it,” he told you through his laughter.
You rolled your eyes before going back to your pizza, giving Tom a look as you nudged him, “Not gonna tell me about what happened to you?” you finally asked.
Tom tensed as he tried to brush it off with a simple shrug into his pizza. The thought of his mother’s texts and ridiculous apologies and excuses continued to drive him crazy as he mumbled into his bite, “It’s stupid shit,” he told you as he swallowed the crust he was chewing, “Mom stuff, not important,” he added bluntly.
You could see the look on his face and could tell it was important to him but you didn’t want to force him to talk about it. Tom was never one to bring up his family ever to you and that was the first time you had ever heard him even mention his mother. He never spoke of his father, at least to you, so you just assumed both were out of his life for whatever reason and it was none of your business to ask.
 And Tom refused to admit it but he wanted you to ask about him. Spending hours upon hours at bars, turning his focus always onto the girl; because he knew no girl would ever want to go home with a self righteous, egotistical guy. It was never something Tom minded to do, especially with complete strangers who he would never open up to in a million years. It might have been the recent development he had with you but there was something refreshing he felt around you and as much as it freaked him out, he didn’t seem to mind.
But diving into his mommy issues with you now seemed too much to deal with right now. You were dealing with more than enough problems with your job and your miserable ex-boyfriend, he figured you didn’t need to hear his bitching right now anyway. He came here to get away from those shitty thoughts, not open those wounds further.
Tom came here for a distraction.
Licking his lips, Tom perked up as he looked at you fervidly, “Wanna have sex?” he asked matter of factly. He figured he didn’t need to beat around the bush since you had your arrangement but maybe he was a bit too direct with his request. Tom cleared his throat as he tried to save the night, “I-I mean, I just figured since we both had shitty days that maybe we could uhm-”
“Thought you’d never ask,” you cut him off with a smirk and you perked up as well, nodding as you smoothed out your hair. Standing back up as you turned your back towards him, removing your shirt in the process, “Let’s go,” you called over your shoulder as you headed towards your room.
“Oh, we’re jumping right in,” Tom mumbled to himself as he practically fell off his chair to follow you into your room, tossing his shirt beside yours as he practically froze already seeing you completely undressed, “Christ…” he breathed out while taking you in.
You rolled your eyes as you walked over to him, bringing your lips to his now bare shoulder, “You’re really acting like you haven’t seen me like this the other day?” You laughed against his skin while you began to suck a bruise against him, hearing him let out a gasp while your hand snaked into his pants sneakily, “Beginning to really like this whole friends with benefits thing we have,” you laughed as you found Tom’s lips.
Practically growling into your kiss, Tom lifted you up and lowered you onto your back on your bed. His lips traveled from yours, to your stomach, dipping his tongue into your belly button as you moaned quietly before he brought himself down between your thighs. His lips peppering your inner thigh before he got straight to the point because this whole arrangement meant no foreplay. Another plus for Tom.
“Darling, I think you may be the best friend I’ve ever had,” Tom breathed out a laugh as he pressed his tongue flatly against your clit. Sliding two of his fingers into your core while he slowly pumped in and out of you, “This is what got me through my day today,” he told you before he brought his mouth back to your core.
You arched your back while your fingers went towards Tom’s curls. His name began to fall from your lips while he lapped his tongue carefully, letting it slip inside of you as he continued to tease you with his mouth. His fingers sliding into you again, adding a third as he moaned against your center; allowing the vibrations to roll throughout your entire body.
“Mmm, oh, fuck...!” you cried out, yanking gently against Tom’s hair as you felt the coil beginning to burn from inside of you. Biting your lip to stifle another moan, “Fuck...yo-you’re really good at that,” you breathed out with a small laugh which turned into a whimper.
With his head peering up at you, Tom flashed you a cocky smile with a playful wink as he licked your folds teasingly, “Did you seriously doubt my abilities to make you cum with my mouth, Y/N?” he raised his eyebrow while pumping his fingers now tantalizingly slow, “You’re gonna pay for that comment,” he said to you.
“Just...shut up and make me cum, Tom,” you told him through another gasp as you felt his teeth drag teasingly against your already throbbing bud. His lips wrapped around it as he sucked more harshly, doing exactly as you had asked him to do, “Ungh...oh god, okay. Yeah, keep doing that,” you instructed as you began to grind your hips against his mouth.
Tom took it as a challenge and picked up his pace, beginning to flick your clit faster while he continuously sucked on it. His three fingers now entirely coated in your warmth as he felt you clenching around them. His pants feeling tighter from his hard on while he knelt at the end of your bed trying to bring you to where he wanted.
His free hand splayed against your stomach, holding you in place while he felt you trying to squirm around from the way he was making you feel. Rubbing your clit in between his breaths, Tom looked up at you as he licked a solid stripe down your center, “Let out how you’re feeling from today and cum for me, Y/N,” Tom commanded.
Your eyes shut as you did exactly what Tom had suggested. Completely coming undone from beneath him while you released as much of the tension from earlier as you possibly could but in the most amazing way. Your eyes rolled back into your head while your back arched as Tom’s tongue continued to work you up while you were at your highest point.
Letting out a breathy laugh as you started to come down from it, feeling Tom begin to kiss his way back up your stomach with a smug look, “Don’t give me that look,” you rolled your eyes at his cockiness as his tongue traced along your neck, “I could do what you just did to myself, you know,” you tried to knock him off his high horse a bit while he pretended to be wounded from your words.
“Ah, but you didn’t. Did you?” Tom reminded you as his lips found yours. His hands still in between your thighs as he brought them between you both, showing you his coated fingers while he tasted you off of them, “Tastes like I made you cum because you wanted me to,” his smugness only elevated as he pushed himself off of you as he laid on his back on your bed.
“Need I remind you that you came to my place like a porno with a pizza looking to get laid,” you retaliated as you shifted so you were now hovering over him. Your hands guiding towards his belt buckle to get him out of his restraintive pants. The pleading look on his face made you just as smug, “Sounds like you want me to do just about the same thing, am I right or am I right?” you sang in his ear.
Tom helped you get the rest of his pants and boxers off, feeling himself spring out as he stared back at you with uncertainty, “Did you...just call me a porn star?” he questioned as the two of you let out a laugh.
“You wish, Tommy,” you teased as you ran your tongue down his abs, placing small and open kisses against his stomach as you made your way down to his legs while your hand carefully gripped his hardened length, your thumb running the pre-cum around his tip while you already heard him gasping for you.
Gripping your bedsheets with one hand, Tom reached around to create a makeshift ponytail to hold your hair. Cussing under his breath as he watched your mouth wrap around his tip, swirling your tongue around it while your eyes searched for his. He was really trying to hold it together but you were already driving him crazy.
“Let’s see what you got, Y/N,” Tom challenged you with a heavy breath as he tightened his grip around your hair, “Sometimes, girls think they know exactly what to do but-OH FUCK!”
His words were lost as soon as your mouth went straight down to his base. Suctioning as hard as you could before coming back up his cock painfully slow. Moaning your name as his chest began to heave, Tom felt his thighs start to quiver from under you. Even just watching the way you were working on him was enough to make him whimper right now.
“Fuck...okay, yeah I take that back,” Tom gasped as his nose crinkled up while his other hand white knuckled the sheets, “God, your mouth is fucking perfect. Why haven’t we done any of this shit before?” he was in such a fucked out haze, he wasn’t even sure if anything he was saying made any sense at all. But he felt his stress from earlier going away finally. Even if this was just a short state of bliss, he was grateful for it anyway.
“You really want me to answer that or would you just prefer me to keep sucking your dick?” you sassed while you kitten licked his tip. You watched from the end of the bed as Tom bucked his hips into your mouth to try and get more contact from your lips but you pulled away from him and just kept licking his tip.
God, you were good, Tom thought to himself.
‘K-keep going,” Tom finally breathed out, flinging his head against the pillow to brace for the impact.
Hollowing your cheeks, you pushed yourself all the way down his cock. Your tongue flicking the base in between as you began to feel him throb inside of your mouth. You could tell he was close so you moaned softly into his cock, watching as Tom shuddered from the sensation you just sent through him.
“Fuck, fuck, fuck,” Tom cried out, moaning your name as he rutted his hips into your mouth. His pupils blacked as he felt the heat rising in his body, “Shit...I’m gonna cum, Y/N,” he warned as you pulled away, running your hand down his shaft as he began to come undone for you.
His warmth spilled out into your hand and down his cock while he let go finally. The stress somewhat leaving his body as it did yours while the euphoric high peaked for him. Your lips crashed against his while his tongue parted your lips to find yours, tangling them together as he moaned against your mouth while riding out his high finally.
You waited for Tom to catch his breath before you smiled against his lips, placing a small peck against them as you pulled away with an even bigger grin, “Yeah, you’re welcome,” you gave him the same arrogant tone he gave to you moments earlier before you pecked his lips again.
After taking some time to get yourselves together mixed with the continuous fooling around underneath the sheets, you and Tom finally decided to get up and end the night. Even though he didn’t want to leave, he knew he probably shouldn’t overstay. Primarily, Tom was adamant about never spending the night at a girl’s place that he slept with. That made things complicated and he didn’t want complicated. But since you and him had rules to not make things messy, he wasn’t sure if that applied to you. For now, he wanted to play it safe so he got himself dressed again.
You pulled on an oversized t-shirt, realizing both of your hair looked a mess. Luckily you were already home and Tom was down the hall so it didn’t really matter. You wanted to say something to Tom, that you were thankful he came by tonight. You were thankful even before sex was on the table. It felt nice to have him as an ally to swing by with a pizza when he didn’t even know you needed that.
“...is it weird to say I’m glad you came by?” you gestured towards your bedroom while you walked with him out into the kitchen where the half eaten pizza was left, “I know we haven’t really made too many rules about it but…” you trailed off with a nervous laugh as you smiled at him awkwardly.
“Like we said, zero weirdness,” Tom reminded you as he padded his way over to you. He grabbed a leftover crust from the box and shoved it in his mouth, clearly starving already from the workout you had just given him. He smiled while he chewed lazily, his mouth still filled with pizza crumbs, “But I’m happy to come by when we have shit days...and make you cum as well,” he smirked deviously.
The door opened as you smiled back, “Doesn’t have to be just bad days, you know. We could...screw whenever we feel like it,” you told him, hoping that it wasn’t too much.
“Did you just say screw?” he whipped his head towards you with a loud laugh.
“Alright then, I guess I’ll just leave you to the girls who leave you unsatisfied then,” you fought back.
Tom leaned against the door with his mouth gaped open, “They do not...leave me...unsatisfied?” he questioned himself, knowing that that was true, whether he wanted to admit it or not.
“Then why are you here?” you placed a hand on your hip, feeling the smile pulling at your lips while you messed around with him. You certainly weren’t in this mood earlier before Tom came around.
Pressing his lips together, Tom rolled his eye at you, “Fine...we can screw...whenever,” he leaned in closer to you with his eyes big as he mimicked your voice when you said it, “As long as we keep this thing strictly what we intended, you can use me whenever you need, Y/N,” and he meant it.
You didn’t back away when he sealed his words with a soft kiss, paired with his trademark grin. Tom pulled away slowly, taking in the moment as he wished you a goodnight quietly before kissing you against the cheek, “Like I said, best friend I ever had,” he said softly once again.
“Am I interrupting something?” A voice broke from behind the two of you. Both of your eyes widened towards each other as you both simultaneously pivoted your heads towards the staircase where the voice was coming from.
Tom closed his eyes with a groan, pinching the bridge of his nose as he tried to ignore Harrison staring at the two of you with a crooked grin. Making it known to Tom that explaining this was going to be a lot tougher than he had imagined.

♡ prompt: "no, absolutely not. he is not taking my sister out."
♡ pairing: jason grace x valdez fem! reader
♡ note: not checked for grammar or spelling mistakes / my schedule is going to become more sporadic starting this week :/ but also, kind of an OOC? kinda not? you'll understand once you read it.
you were in your workshop, fixing a few things for campers who came in and asked whatever it was that had broken to be fixed. you had muck and sweat written across all of your face you were deeply engrained into fixing the dumb robot.
"hiya!" you heard Piper exclaim from the door frame of the shop. you gave her a wave, not bothering to look in her direction, "busy. see you in a few," you murmured, finally getting the bolt inside of the damn head.
Piper, followed by Annabeth who had saw the two of you in the shop, walked in and saw your distressed look, "where's your brother? shouldn't he be helping with this?" Annabeth asked, seeing the unfinished projects on Leo's small desk inside of the room.
you shrugged again, "I think he mentioned he was going out with Jason, Frank, and Percy to do something. didn't ask what though," you half explained as Piper and Annabeth looked at each other before grabbing you by the arms, making you drop equipment you had in your hands.
"hey, what the hell!" you yelled, your eyes not adjusting to the light and making you squint to the point where you had tears in your eyes. Annabeth shook her head no, "you're done for the afternoon. I haven't seen you in what feels like days and your brother is off galavanting with the three other idiots so we're going to pay them a visit," Annabeth explained.
you had befriended Annabeth, Hazel and Piper relatively quick. they immediately took you in as their fourth friend to which you thanked them profusely. the downside to all of that was that they were your only friends.
you were married to your godly powers, even more so than Leo, and hardly interacted with any of the boys. you had saw Percy a handful of times and you couldn't even remember if you even introduced yourself to Jason or Frank. it was especially funny considering Jason was Leo's best friend.
Leo sighed, seeing your disheveled appearance. he knew you were dedicated to your work, much like he was, but Leo never realized how much time you actually spent in that workshop of yours. you really only went out for classes, training, and to sleep/shower. if he had to think about it, he couldn't remember when was the last time you went out for even a churro at the stand a block away from the grounds.
"what?" he mumbled through food. Piper rolled her eyes, "really? you have your sister doing all of your work while your here eating?" she yelled, moving Leo from his seat and making you sit there so you could actually relax.
you pushed your hair back, feeling your eyes getting heavy as your stomach growled. Jason saw the way your head was falling down every few seconds as Piper continued to fight with Leo about giving you a break every so often. as you tried to eat some of Leo's mashed potato, your eyes fell shut.
what felt like hours couldn't have been more than five minutes as you felt someone shake you awake, "huh? what?" you asked, jolting up. Jason gave you a smile, apologizing softly, "you fell asleep and you don't want Chiron killing you for that," he joked.
you nodded, going down to eat again. Annabeth shook her head, giving you a few of her sides and warning you to eat before she made you. you felt your phone going off, probably with text messages of people asking you to fix something.
"slow down or you're going to choke on your food," Leo warned as you nodded again. they could see the disinterested look in your eyes as your ADHD was running off the walls. if you weren't working on something, your mind was racing a mile a minute, "I gotta go. Henry wants his robot mixed for his match against the Hermes kids tonight and I'm almost done with it," you quickly said as you got up and almost sprinted back to the work room.
Piper sighed, seeing the you left just as quickly as you came. "was she always that way?" Annabeth asked, taking a bite from the banana Percy had. Leo nodded sadly, "yeah, ever since we came here, her personality kind of shifted. she was a lot more lively, which is ironic considering we used to live on the street before we got here, but I think she keeps herself so occupied in order to not think of our mom," he explained, trying to keep himself together.
Annabeth felt her heart break a bit for you, "she always did her best to try and cheer me up if I was sad but it's kind of the opposite now," he joked. Piper looked up from the table, "hey, there's that dance happening this Friday, why doesn't she come with us?" Piper asked.
Leo let out a laugh, one that the entire mess hall heard, "you need a date in order to enter and I don't think she has any guy friends....like at all," Leo informed. Piper looked to Jason, giving him a smirk, "there's one single person at this table and I'm looking at him," she said.
Jason was taken back as Leo immediately put his hands up in protest, "no, absolutely not. he is not taking my sister out," Leo yelled as Jason agreed, "I'd feel bad. I don't want to ask her out, out of pity," he mentioned as Leo agreed, "plus, it's Jason. my best friend, that's just weird," he exclaimed.
Jason looked to Leo, half offended as Piper growled, "it's not out of pity but Leo, you know her best. do you really think it's healthy for your sister to be shoved inside a room seven days a week with no friends? we're her 'friends' but she hardly sees us!" Leo thought for a moment, understanding where Piper was coming from, "it doesn't have to be romantic but be serious, she really needs to come out more. it's better for her mental health too."
Jason remained in his seat, sitting on the idea himself. Jason weighed his pros and cons. the cons: he felt bad because he felt as though they were making him ask you out because they felt bad for you. the pros: you were cute and seemed like a less tame version Leo. he didn't mind getting to know you.
"I'll ask her," Annabeth looked to Jason, surprised that he accepted before Leo allowed him too. Leo stared at Jason, half in surprise and the other half in anger, "what do you mean by 'i'll ask her' Grace?" Leo asked.
Jason twiddled with his fingers in nervousness, "I don't mind asking her out...." he murmured. before any of them could react, Leo had Jason by the collar of his shirt, "I will kill you if you do anything to my sister," he threatened, "understand?"
the entire table was shocked to see Leo so serious, especially towards his best friend. Jason nodded as he looked to Piper, "what day is it today?" he asked. she pointed to the calendar, "Wednesday. why do you ask?" Jason's eyes widened, "do you think she has something to match blue with?" Jason asked Leo.
Leo shrugged as he got up, "make sure to ask her when I'm not around," he stated as he gagged at the idea of his best friend and his sister going out with each other. Jason shook his head, getting nervous at the idea of even asking you out. he knew he had to do it today or else it would be too late.
he figured since Leo was probably going to detour to see his own fling, he'd have time now. Jason got up from the table, releasing a sigh of nervousness, "well, it's now or never," he told everyone as they looked up in shock, "you're asking her now?" Hazel asked, finally speaking up.
Jason nodded, telling them that today was his only chance considering he knew Leo would be out of the room. Piper gave him a thumbs up in good luck as Annabeth shook her head in disbelief, "she's a lot to handle Jason. think you can handle a girl like her?" Percy nodded in agreement, "we've been on quests together, she's pretty bad ass on the field," he added on.
"well thanks but that doesn't really help my situation, now does it?"
the table giggled as Jason walked out of the mess hall and making it to your work place. he could hear the music blaring from outside as you looked like you were in deep thought. 'Smokin' by Boston was not what he expected to hear but the guitar riff of the song made him start bopping his head to it.
it took Jason a while to regain his train of thought but as soon as he zoned back in, he took a step into the work shop. you were nose deep into some book as he tried to catch your attention. it took your music turning down to realize that someone had stepped in. you looked up to see Jason standing there awkwardly. his glasses were slipping down his nose as he pushed them up in habit.
"hey Jason!" you exclaimed, "what're you doing here? did something break?" you asked, trying to look for a broken item. Jason shook his head no, trying to swallow back his nervousness, "I wanted to ask you something."
you looked to Jason, confused on what he of all people, wanted to ask you. he kicked the rock that was on the ground as he tried to find the words to ask you out.
"I don't know if you knew but Chiron is allowing the Aphrodite cabin throw this kind of dance thing on Friday. you need a date to be allowed in and I was wondering...would you want to be my date?" he asked, his heart jumping into his throat out of pure panic.
you were immediately taken back. never in your years of being here did you think that Jason would be the one asking you out on a date. you didn't know Jason that well and you were sure that Leo probably had no idea he was even asking you out.
"huh, this Friday?" Jason nodded, panicking at the idea that you were about to deny him, "I guess I could push back a few projects but sure, I can go," you offered him a small smile, immediately writing a few things down on a notepad as Jason pumped the air, Breakfast Club style.
"great, uh, I'm wearing a blue tie in case you want to match," he mentioned as you nodded again, "great, I'll try and find something to match."
you went back to working on a small trinket as Jason exited himself out. Piper and Percy looked to Jason as he gave them a thumbs up.
+
you had been pacing around your room, freaking out on what you had to wear. you didn't have a high selection of clothes. if you were being honest, you weren't exactly sure that many people did. it's not like people were walking around the camp in dresses and skirts all the time.
you had finally decided on what you thought was the nicest pair of clothes you had. it was the cleanest black jeans you had with a light blue cardigan and a spaghetti strap underneath. you weren't sure if this was nice considering what other girls were wearing but you figured Jason must've known what he was signing up for when he thought about asking out the daughter of Hephaestus.
you had asked Piper for a flat iron and tried to straighten out the curls in your hair but ultimately gave up after getting tired. as you were about to head out to meet Jason, you heard a knock on your door. it was too soft considering Leo always barged into your room and not harsh enough to be any of the boys.
"oh, hey," you said, seeing Jason at the step. he gave you a small wave, "ready?" he asked, "the rest of them got a table big enough for us to share," Jason informed. you nodded as you grabbed your chapstick and closed your door.
the Long Island Sound breeze made it chilly enough for you to know that they would be setting up enough campfires around the camp in order to keep everyone warm tonight. the 'dance' was in the mess hall with just tables not in the same place and enough room for people to dance. you were surprised to hear the music playing out of the building.
'lets face the music and dance' by Seth Macfarlane was blaring through whatever contraption they made as people were standing and talking with each other. you saw Leo and everyone else at the table, too deep into the conversation to realize that you had walked in. Jason had to admit, seeing you out of your everyday clothes surprised him.
you were already gorgeous enough so seeing you in a slightly different style, it surprised him. if he was just as confident as Leo was, he would've probably already had the nerve to ask you out. "you look great," Jason whispered as you looked down, trying not to get caught by being flustered, "thanks, so do you," you replied as you both finally arrived to the table.
Annabeth, Piper, and Hazel smiled at you, kind of like proud sisters as Leo rolled his eyes in annoyance, "cuida tus manos," Leo threatened Jason in Spanish. you gave him a look before flicking him off, "malnacido," you countered making Leo flick you off back.
everyone at the table laughed as Jason offered to get both of you food, "you look great," Piper complimented as Hazel agreed, "seriously, Jason's super lucky to have asked you out because I can tell that other guys are giving you side looks." you tried to brush off the compliments but felt the heat rush to your face.
it wasn't everyday that people were complimenting the kids of Hephaestus.
"here, I figured this is what you might enjoy since I see you every now and again get the same things," you thanked him as the air turned into an awkward silence for a few seconds. it was only a few seconds before a Hermes kid came running down the mess hall with something in their hand, "Valdez, try this," they practically screamed.
you knew the Hermes kid. he would come in every once and a while to get something fixed and figured you were probably a friend of his. you looked at the red liquid and took a sip, "I mean it's alright, kind of bitter though," he nodded as he looked over to his friend, "nice, we found a bottle of wine hidden in a dirt path not too far from here."
"you're a prick, you know that Kevin?" he started laughing as you turned around and went back to everyone. they stood there giggling as Leo tried to move the conversation into something else so it wouldn't get awkward, "are any of you planning on going on any quests soon?" he asked. the table responded with a no, "kind of just want to sleep in," you murmured jokingly.
the rest of the night continued with all of you just talking. this was the most talking you had done in months. considering you were always so busy with working on things for other campers, you hardly made time to actually socialize with your friends. you couldn't actually remember when was the last time you and Leo hung out as siblings that didn't involve work.
you saw a few couples dancing with each other, the music playing a little louder as the lights got dimmer. Leo had ditched out a long time ago, wanting to dance with the girl he had been seeing for a while. Piper had went to her cabin under the claim of being tired as Percy, Annabeth, Frank, and Hazel, had went to another part of the hall to do other couple-y things.
"wanna dance? you don't have to, of course," Jason asked shyly. you agreed, getting up and giving him your hand, "let's go Grace," you said playfully. Jason could see the pops of your personality that matched Leo's and honestly, it was surprising to see. he took you as the tamer version of his best friend but he figured since you weren't comfortable with him yet, the more he got to be around you, the more your personality would mimic Leo's.
'Happy Together' by The Turtles started to play as you couldn't help but laugh.
"I think Leo would have a fit if he knew we were dancing to this song together," you joked making Jason laugh, "it took a lot of convincing on Leo's part to let me ask you out today," he replied, making you laugh this time.
"yeah, it's not too surprising. Leo's always been super overprotective over me. it's kind of surprising you made it this far. the last person who tried asking me out got chased out of my work shop with one of Leo's tools."
the two of you started laughing as Leo watched from afar. he felt himself gagging as he saw you getting extremely close with Jason, "I can sense a marriage between them," a random Aphrodite kid said in passing. Leo cringed at the idea but in the back of his head, the idea of you settling down with Jason, didn't sound too bad.
if he had to be honest, Leo was kind of relieved at the idea. he knew Jason was great person. he saw the way Jason was when he was dating Piper and the way he treated her so he could only imagine how he would be for you.
maybe you and Jason dating wasn't so bad after all.

MASTERLIST
NOTE: This is my entry for @homoose ‘s 2k Celebration!! And if this fic seems familiar, that may be because it’s a re-telling of the car-wash scene from Ramona and Beezus 🤭😂 It’s one of my favorite movie scenes of all time, it never fails to make me squeal, and I had SO MUCH FUN writing this!
Also! I tried very hard to find the scene for you to watch incase you haven’t seen the movie, but the ones I did manage to find on YouTube cut out THE BEST PARTS, so I’m sorry 😭 But in case you want to know the ~vibes~ I tried to capture and don’t feel like watching the movie, I made THIS post last night with some dialogue/background from the scene if you’d like to read it! Obviously it’s not required since what I’ve written is quite different, but it is encouraged 😊
I hope you like it!! And if somehow you haven’t followed Moose yet, you should! She’s the sweetest ❤❤❤

Y/N found an abundance of upsides to taking neighborhood walks with her niece. For one thing, it gave her a distraction, something to focus on as she made sure eight-year-old Piper wouldn't wander too far from the sidewalk. She found solace in quizzing her on the multiplication table as they made their way around the block, an activity in which Piper enthusiastically flaunted her love of numbers.
It was also nice to stay outside and take in the warm sun and soft rustling of the trees, though every once in a while all of it wasn't enough to keep the memory of Spencer at bay.
After all, it was kind of hard when he was back in town, and after all these years he was reaching out to her like he hadn't broken her heart in the first place.
"You seem sad, Auntie," Piper said, grabbing Y/N's hand as the turned the corner.
Y/N swung their arms together gently, smiling down at her with a tilt of her head. "Why d'you think that, hon?"
Piper gave a little shrug, her ponytail blowing softly behind her. "You don't smile as much. And you always smile when you're with me... And you asked me the same times equation 3 times in a row just now. You're distracted."
Y/N couldn't help the breathy laugh that escaped her. You sound just like Spencer... Instead, she told her, "Aw, I'm sorry, Kiddo. My mind is just in a... confusing place right now. But I'm very happy that you got to come stay with me this weekend, you always brighten my day." She punctuated her sentence with a little boop on Piper's nose, to which she giggled and asked for another math equation.
The two of them continued around the block a few rounds, though on their fourth and final one, Y/N noticed very familiar car parked just outside her house.
Heart jumping into her throat, she stopped in her tracks, and Piper kept going only to be pulled back slightly. The girl turned to her aunt and furrowed her brow. "Auntie, why did we stop?"
"Um... I just wasn't expecting any company today besides you..."
Y/N certainly wasn't ready to discuss everything that was going on with Spencer to anyone, let alone her eight-year-old niece who wouldn't probably understand or care anyway. So she explained it the best way she could, quickly coming up with a plan to avoid him as long as possible.
"See the car parked over there?" Y/N asked, and Piper nodded. "Well, that's an... old friend of mine... And we haven't talked in a long time because we don't really get along anymore. So when we get up to the house, he might try to talk to us, and I'm going to tell him that we're busy."
"He's not mean, is he?"
Sensing Piper's reservations, Y/N reassured her while letting her own contempt for her ex fuel the conversation. "No, but... He broke my heart. And he—"
"Y/N... Hi..."
She nearly jumped, mostly from surprise, but also at the fact that hearing her name coming from his lips and his voice and just him brought back a flood of feelings she'd rather have forgotten. Still, she turned to him and cleared her throat. "Spencer... Hi."
Piper suddenly let go of Y/N's hand, a small scoff escaping her. "Oh. Spencer..."
The two adults turned to look at her with surprise, though it was Spencer who spoke up. "You... know me?"
"Mhm," Piper returned with a nod, crossing her arms. "I heard Mom and Auntie talk about you yesterday, and she says you have a stupid, beautiful face."
"Piper!" Y/N screeched, heat rising to her face. "I... You can't tell people that, I— That's not... I..."
"Oh... I'm sorry, Auntie," the little girl said quietly.
Y/N was fully prepared to dig a hole and stay buried in it forever, and her embarrassment grew even stronger when Spencer spoke up again. "It's okay," he reassured gently, a small laugh sounding from his throat that regrettably gave Y/N butterflies. "You're auntie's definitely right, I do have a stupid face."
Before Y/N could stop the conversation altogether, Piper cut in quickly, being sure to add, "And beautiful."
Spencer's eyes flicked up to Y/N, drawing her in with amusement and charm, a fact which she hated to her core. Because it was working, and that was annoying as hell. "Yep," he said, never taking his eyes off of her. "And beautiful."
And then the corner of his mouth turned up slightly, flashing her the most amused, stupidly perfect smirk.
Piper started talking again, and for the second time that day, Y/N wished she hadn't even said anything at all, keeping this whole situation to herself.
"But we can't talk to you, because you broke Auntie's heart, and we're busy. C'mon, Auntie. Let's go." Piper grabbed Y/N's hand and led her up the rest of sidewalk until they got to the driveway. And even though it might have been childish to completely ignore Spencer as they walked past, not giving him a second glance, quite frankly she was quick to abort the situation as soon as possible.
Unfortunately for her, Spencer was persistent.
They were almost to the steps up to the door when he called out. "Piper! Can I ask you something?"
The little girl turned around, losing grip of Y/N's hand and greeting his gaze without batting an eye. "Sure."
Damn kids and their willingness to be nice to strangers, Y/N grumbled in her head.
"I know... your auntie is an important person to you, right?" Spencer inquired, walking up the driveway with his hands in his front pockets. Y/N swallowed, most certainly not noticing how the sun perfectly highlighted him in a glow that made him look more beautiful than stupid.
Piper nodded.
"Well... She's important to me, too. And I really hurt her feelings, but I want to make it up to her. Would you be kind enough to let me try?"
Damn him, Y/N grumbled yet again. Damn him, damn him, damn him to hell... Why was he so charming?
He'd always known that kids were a soft spot for her, and when they'd dated, they talked a lot about having some of their own  one day. Every time they took a walk in the park and they passed a kid, they always gravitated to Spencer, giving him the biggest smiles, and in turn he would give them a high five or perform a little magic trick to make them smile even wider. And Y/N melted into a damn puddle every time.
He knew exactly what he was doing, using Piper as a means to win her back, but even still, she knew that because of his gentle nature, most of it was... well, nature. Deep down, as much as she hated to admit it, she knew that he was a kind person. They may have ended things on bad terms, sure, and Y/N could pretend he was cruel all she wanted— The truth was that no matter how their relationship ended, he was a good man at heart.
And that's why it hurt so much.
Y/N thought for sure Piper would fall into his web, but she was pleasantly surprised when the girl responded with, "I don't know... I don't know if I trust you yet."
You and me both, Kiddo, Y/N thought to herself.
Spencer laughed again. "That's fair. Look, you can say no, but... How about I give you something in return?"
"Spencer, that's no—"
Piper crossed her arms and tilted her head to the side, interrupting Y/N before she could finish protesting. "How much we talking?"
"Piper!"
"Well, I was going to offer to show you a magic trick, but I suppose I could work you a deal... I only have a hundred bucks on me, would that be enough?"
Sure enough, Spencer pulled a one-hundred dollar bill from his pocket, and the young girl's eyes went wide. Y/N's did, too, but more likely than not it wasn't a means of excitement.
"You have yourself a deal!" Piper squealed with a jump. She ran over to take the money, meanwhile Spencer looked up at Y/N with a smile.
She didn't return it.
"Is there somewhere we can talk?" he asked softly. Kindly.
"Well, I'm babysitting Piper today, so you'll have to come back another time," she returned a little coldly, hoping that she and Piper had just scored a free Benjamin to pig out on ice cream while Spencer was left waiting forever for a conversation that was never going to happen.
Funny how eight-year-olds always had a way of making things more difficult for you.
"Auntie, Spencer and I made a deal. He gave me money, and now he has to make it up to you. Remember?"
Y/N groaned. "Yeah, yeah, I remember..."
"Well, how about I... take you guys out for lunch? My treat? If it's alright, we can go to McDonald's..."
"The one with the play place?" Piper gasped, immediately turning to Y/N. "Oh, Auntie, please can we go? Please, please, please?"
She looked up at Spencer, shaking her head in exasperation as he smiled at her, those sparkling honey eyes reeling her in whether she wanted them to or not. Then she turned to Piper and sighed.
"How fast do you think you can eat?"
***
Y/N was surprised Spencer didn't try to talk to her more on the drive over. Though, Piper did most of the talking, telling Spencer about how much she loved numbers and math, and he even quizzed her on some multiplication equations on the way.
If she wasn't so annoyed with him, Y/N would have melted completely.
It was the getting into the restaurant that worried her the most, though. She knew that once Piper ran off to play while they waited for their food, he would spend whatever short amount of time he had trying to win her back. And she was afraid of two things, mostly that she would end up crying in the restaurant, making a scene and wishing she'd never agreed to go, no matter how heart-broken Piper might have been. But there was also a small part of her, nestled deep into her heart, that was afraid she'd fall for him all over again.
He certainly made falling easy.
When the three of them stepped into the restaurant, it was easy to see how excited Piper was to be there. She gently tugged on Y/N's sleeve before looking up at her. "Nuggets, fries, and Sprite?"
"Apples, too, and you've got yourself a deal," Y/N said.
Piper nodded, not really caring but eager to go and play. So she sighed and nodded, leaving her with a, "Be careful!" as she saw the girl quick-walk over to the play area. There was a decent crowd that day, but thankfully no one in the restaurant seemed to have any grievances or knacks for trouble.
Spencer on the other hand... Y/N scoffed to herself, thinking how he was the most troublesome person in the area.
He proved her point by nudging her with his elbow. "She's a fun one."
"Yeah, she's somethin' alright," Y/N grumbled. "I can't believe you bribed her just to talk to me... If I didn't know better, I'd have thought you were being romantic. But I do know better, and you're just stubborn."
Spencer laughed, but she refused to look at him. "Aw, come on, give me some credit. You know I can be a little of both."
This time Y/N did look at him, squinting in a glare, like she was contemplating. "Eh... five to ninety-five. Leaning in favor of stubborn, of course."
"Obviously." The amusement in his voice made her hate his stupid, beautiful face even more than usual.
Thankfully he kept the conversation short after that, at least until they ordered. Since it was Spencer's treat, she milked his wallet for as much as she could afford to on fast-food. She ordered a large chocolate milkshake and enough food for her and Piper to share for dinner later— and probably lunch the next day, too. The amused chuckle Spencer let out as she was ordering did have her believing maybe she was being a bit childish. But the longer she thought about it, the more she stood by her actions.
He did break her heart after all. The least he could do was compensate through chicken nuggets and French fries.
The only thing she didn't count on, though, was how long it was going to take to make all her food, not to mention getting things done for other people. As she and Spencer made their way to the table, she realized she'd have to talk with him longer.
Spencer took advantage of this, naturally.
"So... How've you been?"
Y/N scoffed. "You show up out of the blue five years after you break up with me, and then have the nerve to ask me how I've been, in a McDonald's? Yeah, I've been great."
He sighed, his eyes flitting down to the table. "I know, I'm... I'm sorry. And I know I should have—"
"Spence, please don't... Look, I know... I know why we broke up, and I came to terms with the fact that your job was just to dangerous for us to be together, but... I mean, you weren't even willing to work it out, you just... ran away. That hurt."
"Y/N... I'm so, so sorry that it happened that way. I think about it almost every day and how much I wish I could have changed it..."
"But you can't change it. And now you... you show up here after all this time to—to what? Win me back? Use your kindness and your charm to reel me back in, like that'll somehow make everything better?"
He looked up at her through his eyelashes, the sight almost breaking her. "Maybe..."
"It's not that I don't appreciate the thought, Spence, because I do... I've dreamt about the day you'd come back and apologize, begging me to take you back... But I can't get hurt again. And you have to understand that."
"I do... Just..." His hands reached out across the table, gently touching hers. The feeling sparked something in her, something nostalgic and warm...
Something that felt a lot like home.
He was going to continue his speech, but a knock on the glass separating them from the playroom on the other side jolted them apart. It was Piper, a stern look on her face. "Don't try anything, Mister... You're still on thin ice."
She turned away then, running back to the slide when Spencer sighed. "I thought we had a deal."
Y/N laughed, nodding at Piper through the glass. "Even a hundred bucks and free food isn't enough to win someone's trust." Spencer looked over at her and waited, visibly swallowing. But Y/N flashed the smallest of smiles before finishing, speaking quietly, yet with all the truth and firmness in the world. "You have to work harder than that."
"Duly noted," Spencer replied, his gaze never straying from hers. "Looks like me and my stupid, beautiful face have some work to do."
Y/N rolled her eyes, leaning back in the chair as Spencer grinned like a fool... A stupid, beautiful fool. "Oh, alright... You know what... If you weren't paying for my mountains of food and giving me a ride home, that thin ice you're on would have just shattered under the weight of that comment."
"Oh, come on, it was funny."
"No, it really wasn't."
"Yeah, it was."
He stared at her, smiling until her forced frown slowly and reluctantly transformed into a smile of her own.
***
"Thank you for lunch, Spencer! And for the hundred dollars!" Piper skipped past him and up the driveway, stopping to turn and wave with her Happy Meal toy in hand. Y/N was carrying a bag of leftover food and half a milkshake, her stomach already regretting every choice she'd ever made.
"You're welcome, Piper," Spencer said, smiling at the girl. "And thank you for letting me get a chance to set things right with your auntie. You really helped me out today, I appreciate it."
"Sure thing. Just don't break her heart again, or I'll break your stupid, beautiful face. It'll turn into a stupid, ugly face then."
Y/N mentally face-palmed herself, turning to Piper and telling her to go inside and wash up. The girl gave Spencer one final wave and a smile as she did so, leaving the adults alone once again.
"Thank you..." he said quietly, shifting on his feet. "For giving me a chance. I really want to make things right with us... Make up for the way I hurt you, and... try harder. You deserve that much."
Years of heartache and trying to get over him begged Y/N not to believe it, but deep down she knew he was being truthful. He wasn't the type of guy to come around like this—especially with all the work travel he did—just to manipulate her into heartache again, with empty promises and hurtful intent.
She knew he was really willing to try to make things right, and that was a big start.
"Thank you... for saying that... And for making Piper's day. I know you didn't really mean to bribe her, but the fact that you did it anyway is absurd, so... I guess I have to give credit where credit's due."
Spencer laughed, and this time Y/N didn't hate the feeling of the butterflies in her stomach fluttering at the sound. "Well, I'm glad I could at least amuse you today. Does... this mean my romantic to stubborn ratio shifted a little bit?"
Y/N rolled her eyes affectionately, taking a sip of her milkshake. "Hmm... twenty to eighty."
"Still leaning in favor of stubborn, I suppose..."
The smile they shared in that moment felt more like the ones they used to share back then, officially kickstarting the slow, meticulous mending of their love.
"Obviously."

(Sorry I'm not sure if requests are still open, but I wanted to give you a challenge ;b /pos) "Please don't cry." (angst sentence starters) with Schlatt and Dream. ~Minotaur
a challenge??? pft you call this a challenge??? /j /lh this was a LOT of fun - i like getting weird duos to write about, and these two certainly were some !! challenges are also fun >:) i hope this works :D
prompt: "please don't cry." (PROMPTS CLOSED)
warnings: torture aftermath, abuse/torture, death, suicide implications, blood, drowning, descriptions of past murders, emotional distress, prison arc themes, c!quackity critical (only mentioned!)
Dream appears in the Void for the fourth time that day. Schlatt doesn’t even blink.
“Please don’t cry this time,” Schlatt says offhandedly, nudging him with one sleek polished shoe, “fuckin’ Christ, he’s really doing a number on you, huh.”
Struggling to breathe, choking on blood and water from his last respawn, Dream can only drag himself to a huddled position on the ground, drawing his legs and arms in to protect his chest and stomach. The world world is blank and blank and bottomless and quiet; here, Dream can scream and cry and nobody will hear. It won’t be a weakness, it won’t be a failure. Nobody hears here.
(Nobody except Schlatt, who has seen him at his best and his worst and been thoroughly unimpressed by either. The most he gets from him is a raised eyebrow and sometimes a hand up, if he’s not too bloody and hysterical. The least he gets is casual boredom or impatience. Schlatt is hideously neutral, always has been, and Dream used to hate that he couldn’t read him. Now, it’s a blessing.)
So he doesn’t cry, and instead, when Schlatt offers a casual hand, he takes a careful, cautious breath, and takes it, staggering to his feet.
“Still not giving up on it,” Schlatt notes, watching Dream reacquaint himself with standing on weak limbs and lightheadedness from blood loss, “you know, this just seems a little fuckin’ stupid at this point. You know this is a lose-lose situation.”
“Can’t.” Dream’s voice is ragged, run raw with shrieks and pain. “If I give it to him, I die.”
Schlatt scoffs, lighting a cigar. “You’ll die either way, you know.”
And Dream does know, and he knows Schlatt knows he knows. But he’s always been a survivor if nothing else, clawing his way out of situations on half hearts and less leverage than he has now, and he’ll be fucking damned if he gives up now. Schlatt knows that too: Schlatt, Dream thinks resentfully, knows a hell of a lot more about him than he wishes he did.
(Schlatt knows a lot about everyone at this point. He’s spent enough time in the Void to sniff out its secrets, and he’s seen everything there is to see. Predictably, he’s apathetic to it all, though once admitted he goes back to watch Wilbur’s self-destruction via explosion sometimes.
“It’s funny,” he claims, and Dream knows different.
He knows Schlatt watches Wilbur die, and watches himself die, and wonders how it all went to shit.)
“What was it this time?” Schlatt prods, giving Dream’s body a critical once over. “You look like shit, by the way.”
Dream swallows down blood. “Thanks.”
He chooses not to answer the question. He’s not sure he wants to share this with Schlatt, not sure he wants to share how he’d died. Not this time.
Schlatt looks bored. “Drowning? Axe? Sword? Shears?”
“No,” Dream mutters, pacing up and down and up and down once he’s on his feet and ignoring the pain in his joints (the Void is the only place he can move around so freely, and he wants to make the most of it before he’s snatched away), “not torture.”
“Not torture? That makes a change. How many times is it now? Fifteen? Sixteen?” Schlatt barks a laugh, dark eyes never removing themselves from Dream, looking remarkably unconcerned. “Do you even fuckin’ know?”
...He doesn’t. Dream elects not to tell Schlatt that the past four times he’s died he hasn’t been lucid. He doesn’t even remember dying, doesn’t remember Schlatt, doesn’t remember reviving himself. He thinks he’ll remember this time - this time is different.
“So what happened?” Schlatt goads, when Dream remains uncharacteristically quiet. “You trip? Crack your skull open? Did Q accidentally beat you to death? C’mon, spare a guy some fuckin’ gossip. Nothing else changes round here.”
“...I fell,” Dream says, averting his gaze, “into lava.”
“And didn’t run to put yourself out?” Schlatt’s voice has changed. It’s searching, despite its nonchalance; knowing, despite its carelessness, and Dream ducks his head in confirmation of the unasked question.
“I didn’t.” His hand spasms into a fist at his side. “I... didn’t try.”
And no amount of feigned lightness in his voice is going to change what he’s implying, no amount of hinting around the subject of his self-inflicted death is going to stop Schlatt’s knee jerk reaction - a furrow of brows, a glint of something that could have been concern, an open mouth with worries he’ll never voice. Dream waits for him to get over it, waits desperately for the response that takes just a little too long to come:
“Jesus fucking Christ on a stick,” Schlatt drawls, “a new low, huh, Dream.”
Dream flinches. “I can stay here for a while,” he says desperately, “Quackity left after the last death. I can stay here, just to regain my strength. And... I’ll even stay out of your way. I don’t need to leave straightaway to get back to him.”
Finally pulling his eyes from his, Schlatt scoffs. “Oh, no no no, buddy, I don’t think so. You’re gonna come here and ruin my afterlife with your fucking trauma and self destructive tendencies? I don’t fuckin’ think so.” He makes a shooing motion with his hands, ushering Dream away from him. “Get the fuck back to life or I’ll send you back myself.”
“Schlatt.” Dream’s voice wavers, but gives nothing else away. He doesn’t finish his sentence. It’s obvious why Schlatt actually wants him to return - he knows, if Dream stays here too long, he’ll never want to return. Because even oblivion is better than torture, even existing in a neverending black hole is an improvement from spending every waking hour in unimaginable pain. And Dream knows that, knows that if he doesn’t go back soon, he’ll grow adjusted to the Void, will want to stay permanently dead.
...And that means letting Quackity defeat him. That means all his torture, all his strength to keep going, will have been for nothing. And Dream knows that Schlatt knows that.
“Go on,” Schlatt complains, “get the hell out of here.”
Dream, breathing hitching, complies. The book glitters as it appears in his hand, and he whispers the incantation, jaw clenched tightly as he speaks.
“By the way.”
Schlatt’s voice catches him off guard, just before he respawns. Dream blinks, turns back to face him.
(He’s imagining the fiery look of determination on Schlatt’s face, isn’t he?)
“Yeah?”
Schlatt shoots him what might have been a scowl if it hadn’t been half amicable. “Don’t let that bastard win,” he drawls, before the revive magic snatches Dream away and deposits him back in the respawn pit. Spluttering, gasping and coughing for breath, Dream pulls himself out, collapses beside it with trembling limbs and the fragility of respawning. He turns himself onto his back, head tilted to the side, and shuts his eyes, waiting until the pain begins to ebb to do anything else.
...Schlatt’s words stick in his head.
Don’t let that bastard win.
Dream’s fingers close weakly into a fist.
He’s going to kill Quackity if it’s the last thing he does.

We met in online class - Part 3
Tumblr media
Image taken from here.
Pairing: Renjun x Reader Genre: College AU, romance, fluff, angst, maybe humor???? Warnings: Strong language, drinking Word Count: 5.2k
Navigation: Part 1 | Part 2 | You are on Part 3 | Part 4 | Part 5 | Part 6 | Part 7 | Part 8 | Part 9 | Part 10 | Last Part
A/N: Happy birthday to Huang Renjun, the boy who lights up the world. Sorry for making him so angsty in this fic. Tried something a bit light for him on this occasion.
Tumblr media
You’re embarrassed beyond belief.
You had expected maybe an awkward moment or two. But the look Renjun is wearing on his face as the two of you exit the restaurant is one that makes you queasy. You feel so bad. The poor boy had tried so hard to make this date special; and you’d done everything you could to make it cumbrous. You tried, you really tried to act naturally. But, everything about tonight had made your words get caught in your throat. The fact that he’d chosen your uncle’s restaurant of all places… the fact that he had prepared all that he had… the fact that he looked the way he looked tonight. All of it had you taken aback because you’d never been on a date this nice before. This boy had really put you off your A game.
Still, you didn’t like seeing him wear this expression. You weren’t sure what part had irritated him the most: that you kept fumbling over your words? He’d usually been kind and patient with you, so that couldn’t be it. Maybe his pride had been hurt by how it had ended? Renjun didn’t come across to you as a spiteful person but he had made so much effort on this date. Oh man, maybe he was angry.
To be fair, the poor boy hadn’t said anything since you’d left the table. Perhaps it was in what he didn’t say that you felt most embarrassed. You feel so terribly guilty, but walking out into the fresh air helps you get your act together. You stride ahead and grab his arm. You two needed a moment.
“Renjun, wait. I… I need to explain myself.” you begin but gauge his reaction first.
He turns to you and you can’t read the expression on his mask covered face. He doesn’t say anything, so he’s probably letting you talk. Whilst you can’t read him, you pull your own mask down so he would see you fully and understand what you mean.
“Renjun, I’m so sorry. When you texted the address, I thought about telling you to choose another restaurant. But I didn’t want you to think I was blowing you off or having second thoughts. I just… oh my God, I am so embarrassed and I just…” you take his hand in both of yours because you really want him to feel the sincerity in your words “... I’m so sorry. I just went along because I was really excited to see you… like this… on a date…”
Renjun is looking at the ground, like he’s weighing your words, or thinking about what to say. You wait for a beat, or two or three. But on the fourth beat, you say,
“Tell you what, this date doesn’t have to end like this. I know you didn’t eat at all, and honestly, neither did I. My apartment is just around the corner. Do you maybe wanna come over for some ramyeon?” you look at him, your eyes hopeful. You really don’t want him to be mad at you. Your stomach feels uneasy, and you’re pretty sure the French food had nothing to do with it.
“What, no condoms this time?” he finally looks up to ask and now, his eyes are smiling.
“Huh?” you begin but then your eyes widen as realization hits and suddenly, you’re much too aware of his hand in both of yours. You drop it right away and you’re blushing intensely when you say “No, no condoms this time. I mean actual ramyeon.” you cover your face with your hands because yes, you’re embarrassed, but also, you’re grinning because Renjun is teasing you again and you prefer it way more than his silence.
You hear the sound of his amused laugh and then feel his hands close around both your wrists, gently pulling them down. “I’d like that. Let’s have that ramyeon.” he says with a kind voice.
You didn’t realize you’d been holding your breath till you let it out and give him a relieved smile.
“Great! I’m actually really good at making ramyeon. Don’t be too surprised when all other ramyeons are ruined for you forever.” you say just as the valet brings your car around.
“Honestly, Y/N L/N, after our French cuisine extravaganza, I’m pretty sure I’d thankfully eat sand if you cook it for me well enough.”
You laugh because you’re happy he’s talking again. You get the sudden urge to hug him, because you’re thankful he’s giving this date a second chance. You don’t, though. You’re not sure how he’d react and you didn’t want to ruin the moment when it had only just turned around.
So you choose to hop in the car instead, waiting from him to get in and put his seatbelt on. You pause for a moment after he’s settled in and then you turn to him.
“I, uh… I didn’t bring condoms on that day because like, uh, I was expecting anything or whatever. I just, um, my… my roommate. She put it in my purse as like a joke.” you feel so stupid having to explain it but you feel like you need to because ugh, ugh, ugh.
Renjun is laughing silently and you get the feeling that this time he’s laughing at you.
“I mean, it was pretty forward for a first date. And you know, I’m not that kinda guy.” He shrugs his shoulders, shaking his head, still laughing.
“Ughhh.” you bury your face into the steering wheel but it only makes your head honk the horn, which makes you jump.
“Hey…” Renjun reaches out his arm to touch your shoulder and you turn to peak at him, an embarrassed grin on your face. “I’m only kidding. But yes, the quality of my jokes is really going down because now I’m fully starving.”
“Say no more, Huang Renjun.” you say and put the car into drive.
It’s only a five-minute ride and you’re glad for it, because you really, really want to turn this day around. You just couldn’t have your first proper date end on such a sour note. You pull into your building’s garage and silently hope that you had everything you needed to make the perfect ramyeon. With Yeri stress-eating her way to her thesis, your stock would run out way earlier than either of you expected. If that were the case, you would have to very sneakily order some in; you mentally start to calculate how long it would take the grocery app to get you your stuff, given the time of day.
In your planning, you haven’t noticed that the two of you are already in the elevator and it’s Renjun’s voice that brings you back to Earth.
“You live in the penthouse?” he asks.
“Yeah. It was the only place they had available at that time. Super inconvenient. It was hell trying to move all our stuff all the way to the top.” you try to make small talk because the elevator seems to be going on and on. Why did you have to live so far up top?
“Okay, here we are!” you say as you lead Renjun down the hallway and unlock your door. “Um… do you mind if I like… spray you down? My roommate is kinda really particular about having people in the apartment these days…” you ask apologetically.
“Oh, no, absolutely. Do what you have to do.” Renjun says, a bit absentmindedly. His eyes seem to be going past you and towards your living room. You pray to the heavens that it wasn’t a big mess. You had modelled way too many outfits for Yeri before you had left the house.
“Okay, here you go.” you hand Renjun a pair of lounge shoes as he pulls his mask down. “Close your eyes, please. Yeri made this concoction with Lysol and sanitizer and God knows what else.”
Renjun closes his eyes obediently and stands in a T-pose and you can’t help but smile. By the time you’re spraying him, you’re fully giggling.
He giggles back and peaks with one eye open “What’s so funny?”
“Nothing. You’re just. You look so cute, Huang Renjun!” you almost squeal and fuck, you can’t stop giggling.
“Heyyy!” he groans and grabs the spray bottle from you and aims it at you. You shield your face with the backs of your hands while Renjun attacks you. “I’m not cute, okay? You’re the one that’s cute.”
“Okay, that’s enough! I think I’m as sanitized as I will ever be.” you squeal and start to move away but Renjun grabs your waist and sprays you some more. He’s basically drenching you to death, and it’s just as well, because your breath has once again been caught in your throat. He is close to you, too close. Suddenly, your heart is thumping in your chest and you wonder if he can hear it.
He notices your stillness, looks at you and pauses. Like he can feel the electricity in the air. Everything stills and your throat is dry, because your freaking breath won’t let out. You think you’ve forgotten to breathe; almost as if the Lysol is creeping down your airways. He’s holding your gaze and you can swear he’s moving closer. But your stupid throat won’t stop bothering you.
All of a sudden, your head turns out of it’s own accord and you’re clearing your throat into the abyss. Renjun straightens up, his hand leaving your waist. Dammit. Maybe it was all that damn Lysol that was choking you, after all.
“Let’s make that ramyeon.” you choke out, turning your back to him and heading in.
“Yep, ramyeon. Lets.” Renjun nods his head like you’ve said the most logical thing in the world. The two of you pretend like nothing even happened.
You lead him into the kitchen. “What would you like to drink? I’ve got soda, beer, soju.” you say as you open your fridge and do a quick inventory.
“I’ll just have a coke.” Renjun says and you nod. You grab a couple of cans and your ice box and set it down for him on the island.
“Have a seat because what you’re about to witness is pure magic.” you tell him as you grab your apron and suit up to impress the boy in front of you. Renjun runs his fingers through his hair and gives you an expectant smile and your brain choses that exact moment to tell you that your crush is at your place. For the very first time. And the two of you are all alone. You turn around before he can see you blush and you get to work.
“Those are big words, Y/N L/N. I hope you won’t be eating them. I’d much rather have you eat the ramyeon with me.” he snarks as he sits on the barstool on the kitchen island, sipping on his coke.
“Oh, I just love the cynics of my cooking. There aren’t many of them left in this world, so it’s nice to meet the survivors.” You mean business, so you’ve already tied up your hair and laid down your pots and pans. All the time you’ve spent watching Masterchef auditions has prepared you for this moment. You’ve put the noodles to boil and are already heating up a sauté pan. You throw in mushrooms and look up to see Renjun studying you in amusement.
“Damn, you’re not playing around.” Renjun says and you could bet money that he almost sounds impressed. “Hey, be careful with that.” his tone is one of worry now as he watches you chop up some more vegetables.
“I’m always careful, Huang Renjun.” you say as you work the chef’s knife across the bok choy, peppers, ginger and tofu. You throw them in the pan one by one, trying not to be too distracted by the fact that your crush was worried about you. “Can you handle a bit of heat?” you hold up the spicy sauce that Yeri’s mom would always bring for you.
“I can handle it.” he cocks an eyebrow and you grin.
“I’ll keep it mild because I don’t wanna take any more food risks today.” you laugh and add some broth to your noodles.
“That’s fair. It smells amazing already so my expectations have really skyrocketed, by the way.” Renjun tells you, licking his lips.
You grin as you set down two bowls. If the boy didn’t like you after this, then he was probably a really tough cookie to crack. “Honey, you’ve got a big storm comin’.” You mimic as you ladle in the broth over the noodles and start arranging your vegetables in the bowls. You slice your boiled eggs and mutter “Success!” as they come out to be the exact texture you were looking for. You top everything with some sesame oil and sesame seeds. You step back to look at your work. It looked like the most Instagramable bowl of noodles you’d ever created, if you said so yourself.
You lay some side dishes on the counter then proudly set your creation before the artist. If anyone knew how to appreciate aesthetics, it was probably him. You look up at him, expectant. Waiting for your result.
“Whoa.” is all he says, almost like he’s taken aback.
“I think this might be my magnum opus.” you say, nodding seriously as you sit on the barstool next to him.
“This looks like it came straight from an anime.” Renjun makes an impressed face and picks up his chopsticks. He takes a bite and for a moment says nothing. “Oh my God.” he turns to you.
“Oh my God?”
“Y/N L/N. You’re gonna have to marry me now. There is no other way around it.” he says deadpan.
You grin and punch the air with both fists like you’ve won a Michelin star, not just the Masterchef audition. “Huang Renjun, I don’t mess about with ramyeon.” You say and begin to eat. Your eyes close as you let out a satisfied moan because yep--you’ve really done well. To be fair, there was a lot riding on it. You had to perform well today, of all days.
You both eat comfortably and deeply, a striking contrast to how you’d eaten at the French restaurant. Renjun gives you more compliments as he eats and you keep grinning like an idiot, heart exploding with joy. At one point, you have to tell yourself to chill out, to not let a boy’s compliments make you feel so validated. But how could you not be on cloud nine when the boy in question is cute as fuck and you’ve just cooked for him for the very first time? So you just smile wide at him and hope he can’t see the hearts in your eyes or the victory in your attitude that you’ve really managed to turn this around. All the awkwardness from earlier seemed to have evaporated.
“Okay, Y/N L/N. You were right. This is the best ramyeon I’ve ever eaten in my entire life.” he admits and you’re way too happy to see that he’s basically licked his bowl clean.
“Oh man, Huang Renjun. I thought you were a survivor. But here you are, another cynic that I’ve managed to convert.” you say proudly.
“Yes. Here I am.” he smiles at you.
And there it is again. The electricity in the air. Because Renjun is holding your gaze and once again, you become much too aware of his proximity. Were your bar stools always this close? Maybe you had to talk to Yeri about remodeling this area. You’re turning toward him and he’s sliding off the stool, his eyes never leaving yours. He comes closer and your heart thumps against your ribcage again. Your mind is clouded by his perfume because he’s so close that your hands find home on his shoulders. You forget to think for a moment; your blood throbbing hot in your ears as he leans in.
“I’m hooome!”
The two of you jump, your heads turning in the direction of the loud voice. You turn back to look at each other, then you jump away from one another, almost as if the spell has been broken and you’ve realized how close you were and how dumb an idea this was.
You lament your luck. You can’t believe you’ve been cockblocked out of your first kiss with Renjun by your stupid roommate.
Tumblr media
It was almost a week later that you heard from Renjun again. Not that you hadn’t really talked in between. If sending one another memes over Instagram counted as meaningful communication, then yes, you’d been in contact. But then a couple of days ago, he had texted you more than a full sentence:
“Hey! Remember the 127 party Donghyuck (Haechan) talked about? It’s this Friday. Do you maybe wanna go with me? If you don’t want to hang out with frat boys on your Friday night, I totally understand! We could hang out some other time.”
Sometimes, you really wondered if you had any sort of an inkling of pride within you at all, because you didn’t even wait another second to reply:
“You know I wouldn’t miss a single chance to hang out with Haechan. Text me the address and I’ll be there! (Also, what sort of a party is this? I don’t want to be underdressed like last time hehe.)”
Turned out the 127s were hosting some sort of an outdoor Sports Day, except with drinks a plenty so everyone would be knackered as they played. The setup reminded you of every ill-fated Sports Days you’d ever been to at school, except with a lot more booze than you remembered. The two of you had barely walked into the grounds when Haechan jumped in to greet you with the same unrestrained energy.
“My friends! The Coronial lovers! Mr. Huang Renjun!” Haechan had leaned in to kiss Renjun on the cheek but he had really skillfully dodged it, like he had predicted what he would do. “Ms. Y/N L/N.” your reflexes hadn’t been quite as quick as Renjun’s because you had ended up with a mask covered smooth on your cheek. It made you cringe and laugh at the same time. Haechan had very animatedly told you of all the games they had planned for today and had pushed you in, forcing you to mingle with the rest of the crowd.
Renjun was currently being swarmed by the group of rowdy boys and you were watching with an amused expression on your face.
“Embarrassing. Some people should just not be let out in public.” you hear a voice just above your shoulder. You turn around and chuckle.
“Hendery. Didn’t think you were the kind to kick it with the 127s.” you chuckle.
“Neither did I. They’re cool I guess. I like Haechan. More people need to be as shameless as him.” he comments, knitting his brows together.
You smile wide. “I like him, too. He really keeps everyone together, doesn’t he?” you muse as you watch the boy work the room (or playground), currently attacking everyone with more cheek kisses. “Hey, who’s that boy over there? The one in the blue-ish shirt?”
“That’s Kim Jungwoo. He graduated a couple of years ago but he keeps coming to these parties.” Hendery says, scrunching his nose.
You laugh and then let out a long sigh. “I don’t blame him. When I start thinking about life after graduation, it makes me want to fail my courses just so I could repeat them. The future is scary.”
He nods knowingly, then says, “Hey, speaking of which. I heard we’re going to be partners in the SMK Trainee Drive.”
Suddenly, you feel your belly do a summersault. Whenever your college hosted a recruitment drive, SMK was always the hardest to get in, especially for business majors. Not only was it super competitive, but people dreamed of getting chosen because it almost always guaranteed a job once you had graduated.
You blow air from your mouth and square your shoulders. “Wong Hendery. Let’s show them how it’s done.” you hold your hand up to give him a high five but he grips your fist with his and puts his game face on.
“We’re going to crush the competition.” He declares and you feel reassured. You felt way more driven with a partner than working solo, anyway.
“Hendery, don’t waste all your arm energy now, save it for the wrestling match!” Haechan interrupts, thumping him on the back. “Go find your team, we’re about to start! 00 liners, this way!” he says, throwing an arm around you and walking to your team. You look over your shoulder and give Hendery a thumbs up.
You join the 00 liners and look at Renjun amongst them. He looks the most uninhibited you’ve ever seen him. He’s smiling without concern and seems to be enjoying himself. You get the feeling that he’s surrounded by friends he trusts and it fills you with warmth. That boy deserved the world as far as you were concerned.
“Okay, team. Here we are. The moment of truth. We can sit around like a bunch of shmucks or we can leave this ground knowing that we owned this fucking school! So what are we gonna do?” he yells like a sports coach.
“We’re gonna stop being embarrassing.” Lee Jeno gives Haechan a death smile and Haechan thumps his chest.
“That’s right brother! Okay, first order of business. Everybody take a shot! No one enters the battlefield sober!” He gives his commander’s speech and passes around bottles of something. You’re not sure what it is but it smells strong.
“Down on 3. 1, 2, 3!” he yells and without thinking, you down whatever you’d been handed. You groan out as it hits and look up to realize that your groans are harmonizing with the others.
“Ohhhh yes! Now we’re ready! Okay, second order of business. We need an entrance song. I was thinking, Girl’s Generation…” Haechan goes on and you see that it has made Renjun laugh. You laugh along as Haechan makes the team learn the cheesiest dance moves. A boy in a headband you’ve never met seems to be fully into it; a few girls seem to be tagging along amused. Na Jaemin looks like he’s humoring his friends at best.
“Okay! Let’s get ittttt!” Haechan drags the last part and leads the charge towards the center of the ground for an arm wrestling battle. There is excitement in the air now, and you have a feeling that it has less to do with the match itself and more to do with whatever liquid courage Haechan had injected in everybody’s veins. You find yourself walking at pace with Na Jaemin.
“You doing alright there, buddy?” you ask him because the poor boy looks like he was once again dragged out here.
He gives you a kind smile “Yep. I’m all good.”
“Not really your scene, huh?” you ask empathetically.
“I mean, I’d much rather stay indoors but Jeno said I needed some fresh air. Renjun was going to stay in with me but he betrayed me last minute by deciding to be social.” He notes, throwing some kind of a look your way.
You give him an apologetic grimace. “Oh man, I’m sorry for ruining your plans. But where’s your girlfriend? Why didn’t you invite her?”
“She’s quarantining.” he tells you patiently.
“Oh no! Is she okay?” you look at him, almost stopping in your tracks.
“She says she’s mostly all the way okay now, though she still doesn’t have her sense of smell back. But I guess any day now.” he nods, looking ahead.
You look at this profile and your heart goes out to him. “Hey, I know of a place that’s making these really cute care packages for people that have been affected. They’ve got a super safe system of delivery as well. I can hook you up if you like. They’ve got the cutest things for you to choose from.”
He looks at you and gives you a genuine smile. “That would be great. She’s probably tired of all the soup I’ve been leaving at her doorstep.”
You give him a fond look. “Okay, cool. I’ll help you put it together and everything.”
“Thanks, Y/N.” he says before you are interrupted by a loud cheer because the first match has begun and it’s between the boy with the headband and someone else you don’t recognize. The match doesn’t last a full two seconds before the boy with the headband is defeated. Haechan plays up looking crestfallen and “lunges” at the opponent but is playfully stopped by Renjun and the defeated boy. You throw your head back and laugh out loud. You were maybe enjoying these dramatic antics a little too much, but also, it was nice to see Renjun letting loose like that.
Haechan is up next and is defeated just as quickly and you soon realize your team stood no chance. A couple more boys from your team go next and it’s a bloodbath. No matter how much you cheer your teammates on, they’re dropping like flies. By the time Na Jaemin walks up to the stand, you’ve all pretty much accepted your fate.
But then. Jaemin’s arm slowly starts crossing over the midline and then the 00 liners are on their toes jumping up and down, cheering on top of their lungs and before you know it, Jaemin has earned you guys your first victory.
“Go Nana!” you hear people scream followed by a chanting of “Superstar! Superstar!”
You cheer along and watch as Jaemin-the-dark-horse defeats two more opponents in a row. And when he earns yet another victory, the 00 liners are going berserk, with Haechan yelling “Victory shots!” making you guys chug down whatever drinks you’re holding. But that becomes your undoing because Jaemin finally loses to Lee Mark, a senior boy.
A few girls from each team have their go and there’s an uproar when it’s pointed out that the boys were letting them win. It’s a loud, drunken commotion now and you don’t realize it is Rejun’s turn till Haechan points it out for you and much to your amusement, he’s up against Hendery.
“Go Renjun! I believe in you!” you cheer at him as he takes his place.
“Go Injuniee!” Haechan yells and you all watch for a moment with bated breath; but as soon as the match begins, you’re all doubling over, laughing. Renjun is no match for Hendery and he knows it, which is why he’s taken the opportunity to turn this into a comedy show. You laugh as Renjun hangs onto Hendery’s arm and wiggles his legs animatedly. But Hendery holds his ground well and let’s Renjun put on a show for everyone before he puts some girth in his hold and flattens Renjun out in one. Renjun walks back defeated and you welcome him back just as dramatically, like he’s a soldier returning from war.
“You did well, Injunie.” you put an arm around him and tell him and he grins at you before he is swarmed by the rest of your team. Your opponents are declared the winners but you guys do your Girl’s Generation dance anyway and take more victory shots.
You guys have no idea how you make it through the rest of the day because by the time you’re on your last game (a strange relay race that involves complicated costumes and eating donuts hanging from strings), you’re stumbling and being rowdier than usual. You’re yelling at one another, trying to get Yangyang (as you’ve learnt is the name of the boy in the headband) in his many legged costume but it is more complicated than usual because none of you are in your right mind. You, in fact, don’t remember the last time you got this drunk... Yeri would be proud.
There is more commotion and many more arguments over what the actual finish line is, because by the end, even the self-appointed referees are knackered beyond belief. You don’t know how it happens but all of a sudden, Kim Jungwoo has been declared the winner of tonight, though all the games you played were in teams. But this funny result is agreeable to everyone because Jungwoo is being tossed in the air and being presented with a mini beer keg. Turns out, there wasn’t much that college students wouldn’t celebrate... if you’d put enough drink in them.
You find yourself jumping up and down along with the rest and you don’t realize that you’ve stumbled till Renjun catches you and you’re smiling at him so widely. You’re pretty sure your face is flushed a bright, drunk color because Renjun is looking down at you with an amused smile.
“Whoa, whoa, whoa. You alright there?” he asks and you loop your arms around his neck till you’re basically hanging onto him.
“I’m having the best time ever, Injunie.” you tell him but your words are coming out all sloshed so you try to make yourself clear. “Best time. Best time. Why does it sound so funny in my mouth? Best time. Best time.”
Renjun raises his eyebrows but his smile keeps growing. “Okay, time to take you home.”
“Nooo, Injunie, but Haechan was going to show me how to make his death cocktail and I have to help Jaemin make a package for his girlfriend and I’ve made a new friend and her name is Lia and I can’t leave now!” you whine at him, grabbing a fistfull of his hoodie. Damn, why do your words keep sloshing around in your mouth like that?
Renjun loops an arm around your back and starts walking you “Okay, you can just take a quick nap at home and then when you come back you can do all of those things, okay?”
You consider his words and realize that your eyes were droopier than usual. “You’re a genius, Huang Renjun. I guess I could take a little, itsy bitsy nap.”
The next thing you know, you’re in the back of a cab, your head resting on Renjun’s shoulder. He feels so nice and warm and you feel so damn comfortable. You cuddle closer to him and turn your head to look at him just a bit. “I’ve got such a bad crush on you, Huang Renjun.” you tell him and you see his head snap in the direction of your voice and you want to keep talking to him but your eyes are closing again.
When you wake up in the morning, you have no recollection of how you got back home but Yeri’s making you her hangover tea and telling you how proud of you she was.
