Bri's back story

Little back story, my mom's birthday is Halloween btw lol 🎃 She was a very wild child & couldn't be controlled by grama & grampa rip. Who always compared her to her older siblings who were roudy & eventually became roudy herself. Conceived me & twin bro in New Orleans where she had fun & came back pregnant w/us, Grampa passed in 96 & the fam split, she raised 4 kids on her own, did crack & broke under the pressure, got us taken away is the gist.

We were put in foster care when I & my twin bro (13) & 2 younger siblings were all split up into group homes after twin bro called cps & snitched on her, can't forgive her, paint himself as the victim & says I abandoned the family of which was only his opinion nobody else's. Since I reunited with her I'm unforgivable & discarded by him & my aunt by association. But honestly foster care was probably the best thing for us cuz we struggled to eat & were actually well taken care of. Twin & I got through our HS careers in separate schools w/the same build blueprint so was like a twin school...thank God he would have cramped my style 😎 We got jobs at 16 to save for apt after emancipation. The only issue was visitations, they wouldn't let us see her cuz CPS is ALWAYS AGAINST THE MOTHER... denied her rights to see us but we could see each other. (cuz drugs are involved regardless if from good homes or not, I had a roommate w/a similar situation w/her kids but she was a good mom) My younger bros got adopted out into & nice family, twin bro naturally got adopted by them as well cuz he wanted what they had. They got all their own cars & everything they wanted. However I went a diff route & not knowing it was an option I did everything on my own & humbled myself on the bottom living my own struggle....... while they floated in a pool & had loving parents & went on cruises without me.

Middle child always had a knack for making money 💰 starting young ADHD & had wild ideas to get in trouble, now has multiple businesses going & has 4 kids however he may be Fked up the most & may need exorcism due to antichrist & blasphemous behavior.

Youngest grew up right cuz he was too young & is very very funny, actually cares about me but doesn't know me.

Anyway mom spoiled twin more than all 4 of us to keep his mouth shut about her drug use after she told him,fought w/her alot whilst being spoiled at the same time while I cleaned & took care of the younger 2. Twin always played video games & ignored everything while I was screamed at with curse words & told to do everything for her except cook, traumatized the fk outta me. However paid me to play yazzi with her sometimes when she was high lol. Guys & friends going in & out of the place all the time, they didn't scare me...I learned to be very protective & wary. Misspent youth growing up early couldn't really be a kid so I'm sort of a kid still at ❤️ The group home drilled cleaning into me too 🫤 CindaBri over here. These days I'm very sensitive & am prone to crying since I was a kid. I don't do well with conflict, bullying, negativity of any kind I cannot tolerate. I have a huge heart despite how I grew up, I was a pushover & it took me a longtime to develop a backbone. I absolutely hate it when I'm mistreated, feels like I'm a punching bag for family to take it out on. Well hears something, I honestly do not give a flying rat's ass what they think about me or my mother. I am free from their controlling ways and I'm so grateful to God that he gave me the strength to sever ties on my own terms and not theirs instead. I'm allowed to do the same exact thing & cut people out of my life if its better for me & my health then that's what I'll do. Not because of hatred but because it's the right thing to do. As family oriented as I want to be it's just not possible for my family to get along and it's very sad & pathetic. I have to be able to heal from the trauma even more as I had the worst of it. now broken however beautiful 😊 Mostly independent & very strong/resilient 💪 I have Jesus to thank for saving my life more than I can count. Never learned to drive either to this day & always take the bus. I think I'm 10x slower, I work really hard & always burnt out.

Oh yeah here's the kicker, at 19 I started getting auditory & increasingly visual hallucinations ever since...i have a brilliant mind like I'm fkin Matilda after my trauma or some sh*t. I've been having de ja vu or precognitive dreams of my own life since I was a toddler, one of a week span smashed into 1 dream which was my strongest one. lately I don't remember my dreams since late 2023 😓 my gifts keep growing though & I swear I hear passed on family, friends, & even celebrities, & my calico cat of 15 yrs. Whatever it is I believe it's God given, but I don't know how to control it yet.

I have an amazing longterm memory I do remember my own birth (that's a good story too) My mind has a lot of knowledge to use but may be overloaded now as I've recently been having issues...Its why I write to get things down & vent.

I was diagnosed with "paranoid schizophrenia" w/ depression & anxiety, a lot of fam has mental issues it seems. Think I'm the only one diagnosed with mental illness but the eldest 2 boys should definitely get tested out for it too if they haven't seen a doctor already. There's alot of resentment from my family toward my mother cuz of her behavior in the past. As a God fearing woman I know better & choose to Honor my mom the best of my ability even if our relationship is strained, I know it's not her fault & it's the devil's work. She like my siblings are equally messed up by how our parents raised us, it's an viscous cycle of torture that needs to end, there's no love coming from most family & it makes me sick, family is supposed to stick together but we were left in the dust cuz they don't wanna deal with her. I believe the evil one has a grasp on people in many different ways, whether it be mental illness or hatred he causes havoc in everything he can, has a grasp on the people of earth. But the Father controls the universe, our story is prewritten & is a domino effect. My deja vu I've theorized it's like a time lapse of some kind, hope to God I haven't lived it already over & over that would be hell to me 🫤 Although never a dull moment that's for sure, oh if I could do it all over again ..... idk if I'd want to.

Fighting me on it & won't listen u have to have the patience of a saint. Doesn't like being proven wrong, very stubborn, mixed w/bipolar..gets angry. She keeps comparing me to my grandma. Think she's more mentally fked up than I am from her past too but I'm no psychologist. Luckily I raised myself to be better than that in this gen, self aware, I use logic & understanding but do stupid sh*t sometimes lol...I wanna break the cycle cuz it's a complete sh*t show. I don't want to be held back & torn down by family again & again just seems like even she doesn't care about me either sometimes. But she's getting old & cranky, wanna snap her out of it somehow. It's not a gypsy rose situation exactly I actually care I'm just annoyed & trying to get along with her, we do most of time.

And today I came to a starting discovery.

Seems I may need to check my mom for Alzheimer's/Dementia, think it's worse than I thought. She keeps having fits/episodes of memory loss & blaming me for things, thinks I touched her phone to change it to dark mode today but it's been that way for a month or so already & didn't believe me.

How to heal from the past when she won't give u room to breathe, thought i was making progress w/her, keeps buying cigs & soda everytime she has stamps or money & when she's out hits me up for money, I just got my 1st check & I'm trying to save, says I can say no but then bitches at me. I honestly don't understand her sometimes. And after the cigs are gone she's crankier which makes things worse. All the cigs she's had over maybe 2 yrs she could've had a car by now & I'm working my butt off for one, & all the food is eaten while I'm gone. Tried clensing the apt but just made her angry, mental illness or demons I can't tell sometimes.

I'm so tired I haven't slept after work yesterday & need it for brain function but I had 3 hrs to sleep b4 church this morning so decided to stay up ..idk how long I've been up actually my eyes hurt, Have 2 hopefully benign tumors in my head & she's stressing me the fk out. Church or sleep, was actually a good day. Was trying to recap to her on what I did today & I just got ready for church this morning, when did I have time to touch her phone? But doesn't listen at all & always threatens to kick me out when she's incapable of being her by herself anymore. And depending on an hour to the next day she fine again & tells me to ignore her. Fking crazy. I already have memory issues wtf happena when we both lose our damn minds. I have the choice between doing laundry to get tf outta here or watch the rewards show & rest my eyes...Bed looks good rn actually 🥱😴

summary: in which juliet bumps into someone very, very familiar and dear to her heart.

Juliet nods her head along to the music playing from her earphones as she peruses the snack aisle in the supermarket. Her classes ended a bit earlier today, giving her more time before she has to be at the company for training. What better way to spend that time than getting snacks to share with the others during their breaks?

Definitely chocolate, she thinks as she grabs a bar from one of the shelves, pausing for a few seconds before grabbing two more. Who am I kidding? We’ll inhale it within thirty seconds if I get just one. What if I also got chips? Or is that too much if we’re going to get tteokbokki after training?

Sighing, Juliet looks wistfully at the assortment of snacks before lowering her head and speed-walking through the aisle. If I can’t see it, I won’t be tempted.

Stopping by the dairy section, she reaches for a bottle of banana milk after much deliberation between it and the strawberry milk. This specific brand of flavoured milk was the first thing she had after landing in South Korea, and since then she’d always try to have either before practice or evaluations as a good luck charm whenever possible.

Juliet is about to head to the cashier when she spies a boy around her age standing only a few feet away from her looking at the selection of bottled tea. Her heart skips a beat when she catches the side profile of the boy. It can’t be him... can it? But he looks so awfully similar to...

Before she can be sure, the boy makes his choice and disappears behind the aisle she was just in. Juliet finds herself following after him. She wanted—no, needed—to confirm she hadn’t been seeing things, that he is indeed who she thinks he is. It’s been so long since she’s seen him, she can��t just leave without being sure.

Doing her best to act natural, she walks back to the snack aisle and grabs a bag of spicy chips, pretending to read the label when she’s really trying to get a better look at the boy out of the corner of her eye. Unfortunately, the boy isn’t near enough for her to be sure, and before Juliet can inch closer to him, he leaves the aisle.

Damn it, I knew I should’ve put on my glasses.

Hastily shoving the bag of chips back into its original place, Juliet hurries to catch up with him, carefully peeking behind the shelves to see which section he went into.

Wait... do I look suspicious right now? What if someone’s watching me through the CCTV and thinks I’m trying to steal something? The thought causes her to shudder, hoping she’ll get her answer as quickly as possible so she won’t have to act like this anymore.

Passing through the aisles, Juliet finally finds the boy looking at the instant ramen before casually slipping in and grabbing a random one from the shelf, once again watching him using her peripheral vision. Is this weird? This is so weird. Man, if he’s not who I think he is, I would’ve done all this for nothing... Fuck! He’s looking this way! Don’t look at him, don’t look at him, don’t look at him... 1790mg of Sodium... interesting... what riveting information...

So deep in thought, Juliet doesn’t realises that he’s approaching her until she feels him trying to squeeze past her in the narrow corridor in an effort to leave. Jumping in surprise from the sudden contact, the bowl of ramen slips from Juliet’s hold and falls to the ground with a clatter.

“Sorry!” they both squeak in unison, the boy crouching down to pick up the ramen before she can do so herself. When he looks up to hand it back to her, they freeze upon getting a good look at the other’s face, eyes widening with realisation.

“Felix?”

“Juliet?”

Huge smiles slowly spread across their faces after getting over the initial shock before they pull each other in a hug.

“It’s so good to see you!” Juliet squeals. “What are you doing here?”

“I live here now!” Felix explains once they separate, laughing when her eyes widen comically at his revelation.

“Shut the front door. Really?”

“Yeah! I auditioned for JYP a while ago and got accepted, and they told me to move here immediately. I wanted to contact you, but I think you changed your phone number...”

“Oh, I did,” Juliet says sheepishly. “But I’m glad we ran into each other here! Well, not really ran into... I was kinda following you around the store like a creep because I was trying to make sure if you were really... you.”

Felix giggles. “Were you? I didn’t notice. I just thought you were another student trying to buy snacks after school.”

“I mean... that part’s true,” Juliet says with a grin as they walk back to the cashier to pay. “But anyways, it’s so great that you’re with JYP now! Are you doing okay with settling in and stuff?”

He nods slowly. “I think so, I’m still adjusting to the culture shock and practising my Korean, but the boys there are helping me a lot! One of them is also from Sydney, can you believe it?”

“You’ll have to introduce us sometime then,” she says as she hands the cashier some money while he scans her items. “Plus, you found me now! So if you need anything or just someone to talk to, you can reach me! You have a Korean number now, right?”

He nods again, rummaging for his wallet and phone in his bag before handing the latter to Juliet so she can enter her number in while he pays. The two leave the supermarket with a quick “thank you!” to the cashier as she returns his phone.

“‘Aussie sister’?” Felix laughs, reading the contact name she saved for herself.

“Yeah! You can change it if you want, or if you already met another Aussie sister at JYP,” she pouts. “In that case, I can be ‘Aussie sister #2’ or ‘Julie’ or whatever.”

“Nah, I don’t know any other Aussies here other than you and the boy I mentioned earlier. His name’s Chan, by the way! Where are you going now? To SM?”

Juliet smiles melancholically. “I’m not with SM anymore, Lix,” she says softly, watching his eyebrows crease with worry. “I’m with another company now called KQ. It’s much smaller compared to SM, but I’m happy there and they treat me well, so don’t worry.”

“Well, if you’re happy, then it’s all that matters!” Felix says brightly. “I have to go back to JYP too, but we’ll meet up more now that I’m here, right?” he adds the last part hopefully.

“Definitely! When we have time, I’ll take you to all my favourite food places in this area,” Juliet promises.

Felix beams. “I can’t wait! Take care, okay? And good luck with training.”

“You too. Again, it’s really, really nice seeing you again.”

“Likewise... so, this is goodbye?” he asks when they come to a intersection, being able to tell that Juliet has to go the other route from the direction her feet are pointing at.

“Yeah... but only for now! Remember to text me later so I’ll have your number!”

Felix nods. “I will. I’ll see you around?”

“You bet. I still have so much to tell you,” Juliet tells him before they hesitantly go their separate ways, knowing they both have to be at their companies soon but still wanting to catch up more.

It doesn’t take long for her to turn around to watch Felix’s retreating figure, though she immediately bursts into laughter when he does the same, and the two friends give each other one last exaggerated wave before disappearing into the crowds of people.

Despite the freezing temperature, Juliet feels warm and fuzzy on the inside, overjoyed from seeing her childhood friend for the first time in years while also knowing that there will be more to come now that Felix also lives in Seoul.

Things really are starting to look up.

She walks into KQ’s building with a spring in her step, arms clutching her banana milk and chocolate securely when her phone chimes from a notification. Clumsily fumbling with her uniform skirt’s pocket, Juliet fishes out her phone, instantly grinning at the message that pops up on the lockscreen.

A big talking point lately is that AEW's roster has gotten pretty huge. One effect of this expansion is that it's a major pain in the ass for me to keep track of all the wrestlers who mainly compete on the YouTube shows. Going forward, I'll be focusing on the performers who have wrestled in the past 30 days on television or pay-per-views.

There's concern that the big stars from other major-league companies (mostly WWE) will crowd out the wrestlers who came up from the minors. That issue became more clear to me when I put together the above list. Twelve of my men's top 20 came to AEW best known for their WWE runs, and Omega made his name in New Japan. So if you expected AEW to be "the best of the rest," you're left with Darby, Eddie, Orange, Pillman, MJF, Hobbs, Garcia, and a bunch of guys in the background.

We'll have to see if this becomes a problem. I'm optimistic that AEW knows what they're doing, and wrestlers will be regularly cycled into and out of the spotlight. But WWE has conditioned wrestling fans to think that if a wrestler only appears on the C-show, then the bookers have totally given up on them. So I don't blame fans for being skeptical that AEW can find a better way. It's on AEW to prove that guys like Brian Cage, Pac, John Silver, Dante Martin, and Lee Johnson will get their day in the sun. And that's not even getting into the dozens of wrestlers that aren't listed above.

At any given time, AEW has about 16-20 active tag teams, but a lot of them are mainly on Dark and Elevation. Limiting the rankings to teams that have been on real TV in the past month gives us just twelve men's teams. Then again, that's still more than you'll see on most other wrestling shows.

I think it's important that three of the heel teams (Butcher/Blade, Quen/Kassidy, Evans/Angelico) are in Matt Hardy's stable, so it feels like Matt is begging for one of those teams to break away and turn face. The Dark Order also features three teams (Uno/Grayson, John Silver/Alex Reynolds, Alan Angels/Preston Vance), but their storyline about internal problems could break up one or more of those pairings, if not the entire faction. Interestingly, they've started to set up a feud between the entire Hardy Family Office and the sort-of reunited Dark Order, which may be where they blow off a lot of these issues.

AEW doesn't do a lot of women's matches on Dynamite and Rampage, but because of the battle royale on the 9/4 pay-per-view some of the overlooked ladies managed to make the cut.

We've seen some alliances forming in this division, which has stoked talk of introducing a women's tag team championship. However, it looks like AEW has other plans, involving a new women's TBS title to complement the men's TNT title.

I don't think the women's roster is deep enough to support any new belts. That doesn't mean I don't want a secondary title or a tag title. I do. But I'm not convinced that introducing a new title will commit AEW to actually push more wrestlers and expand the roster. That commitment is what I really want; new belts are just gravy.

Part-time/semi-retired: Chavo Guerrero Jr., Homicide, Karl Anderson (Impact men's tag team champion), Luke Gallows (Impact men's tag team champion), Mark Henry, Minoru Suzuki, Rebel, Sting, Tully Blanchard, Paul Wight

I don't get the impression that Homicide and Suzuki will be sticking around for very long. Aside from them, all AEW is getting from the "forbidden door" these days is Gallows and Anderson, and all they do lately is stand in the back of Kenny Omega's entourage. These crossovers have been fun and all, but they've been more like Green Lantern/Silver Surfer than JLA/Avengers, if you get my drift.

The Dan Lambert/American Top Team storyline appears to be setting up some kind of match involving Junior dos Santos, Jorge Masvidal, Paige VanZant, and a bunch of other MMA jagoffs I can't be bothered to remember. We'll see if that actually happens, or if they just jerk around about it for another two months.

This doesn't include people like Julia Hart and Serpentico, who regularly appear for AEW but aren't on the official roster and apparently aren't under contract. Regardless, this gives you a good sense of which wrestlers would be the "AEW Dark roster," if we treated it like a separate brand or something. It'll be interesting to check in a few months which of these names are still stuck in this category.

As huge as AEW's roster is, it's impressive that only eight wrestlers are listed here. Guevara has a match set for 9/29, and Daniels is doing a little crossover thing on Impact Wrestling. Brandi just got back from maternity leave, and while I assume she plans to get back in the ring, that remains to be seen. As for the others, it's possible some of these people have injuries or are taking time off, and the details just haven't gotten out.

The big story here is Page, who was being set up for a major run for Kenny Omega only to suddenly lose his title shot and disappear from the show. That left everyone pretty anxious for Page to get back, especially since a wave of big new stars could crowd him out of his spot. I'm sure AEW knows when Hangman is scheduled to return, but there's no way for any of us to figure it out, which is frustrating.

Trent had neck fusion surgery, which has a notoriously slow recovery time; I don't expect him to be on TV until the middle of 2022. I haven't seen any kind of timetable for Sabian or Martin, probably because there are so few details available about the extent of their injuries.

Deeb had knee surgery in March, returned to the ring in May, and went back on the shelf in July. Evidently she came back too soon, and she's still rehabbing the original knee injury. I worry about that kind of thing when I see Britt Baker (or Impact's Chelsea Green) working through a broken wrist.

a voltron au? in 2020? it’s more likely than you think

look. LOOK. i know that voltron is stupid and we hate it but lets be honest: everything up until season 3 was pretty good and had lots of potential !!

today i was rewatching voltron and a thought struck me: what if, instead of shiro being cloned, he was chipped and turned to the side of the galra?

so here it is, i did not blink since i thought of this

(warning, i have not seen voltron in a while and this is just knowledge i have stored in my moss brain and stuff i know from rewatching the first season)

au where shiro goes evil bc of what happens @ end of season one instead of the clone thing bc 1) haggar rly could not have made thousands of shiros after bumping into team voltron like what twice? its hella improbable and 2) just… weird

so instead they insert a chip in him that helps them spy and control him just like kuron (the clone) did minus the unlikely storytelling

eventually after the convo with sendak when he was in the pod trying to temp shirp, he does have thoughts about helping zarkon

(“im already infiltrated with the arm, i could just speed up the process by leaving now. save the team the trouble of investing in a leader that’s doomed to fail from the strart.”)

shiro ends up leaving team voltron in season 2 after zarkon goes crazy w the black lion n stuff

^^ this adds to Keith’s reasoning of joining the Blade of Marmora (shiro is his main stability and one of the main reasons he even stuck around with team voltron, so with shiro gone and keith questioning his place as the leader and paladin of the black lion, he decides the BoM is just.. what’s best for him)

obviously lance isn’t happy with this (“you just told me that i’m a valuable member, now you don’t think YOU are? what logic is that?”)

shiro has that bigger version of his arm that was once offered to him

he’s stronger and scary, but his eyes aren’t the same, he has the strength of a galra but lacks the passion

in the fight between lotor and zarkon, (and after, of course lots of self doubt and questioning) shiro comes between them and convinces lotor NOT to kill zarkon

then zarkon kills lotor

everyones like oh shit bc surely someone who’s life was just spared wouldn’t kill the person who seems to have the most power

eventually they teach him all about quintessence and all the shit lotor had planned that they can’t do anymore

(lotor wasn’t harvesting alteans in this universe bc what the heck even was that subplot that had little to no relevance to the main storyline?

instead he was trying to find a way to technologically bring back alteans (kinda like how allure’s dad was originally preserved in s1)

i know nothing about How Stuff Works and i dont remember much about quintessence n shit but the basic idea is that when tying in some of a persons artifacts with technology stuff and some quintessence then boom. a weird route from astral projection land to the team is created and ppl can come back or smth idfk

but lotor was never able to get the comet so shiro decides he and the gals will get that comet and try to bring back as many alteans as they can

^ all this while infiltrating as many galra fleets as possible + saving planets under galra empire

they personally visit every planet that lotor was in charge of and release them from galra control

they are able to bring back an altean (its romelle) and she talks abt her friend who lives on the balmera and they go to the balmera and its revealed that it was shay’s great grandmother so romelle asks where shay is and shay’s family is like with team voltron of course

they take her

obviously team voltron, the BoM and the Rebels r very hesitant to make contact but they decide to try it out

keith refuses to meet, instead he’s on the team that stands guard

reunions !!

romelle and shay hit it off and hunk makes a dinner much like roselle’s past (allura and coran also hang out and they all vibe)

lance talks to shiro abt everything to do with keith and shiro is like dude do u??? like him?

and lance is like what? no ofc not—oh shit.

and keith ✨overhears ✨

pidge matt and shiro catch up n shit

meanwhile keith is like Hey Lance Uhhhhhh What The Fuck

they end up being like hey since we’re all here and we hate zarkon what if we make a plan to end the galra’s reign Right Now

so they do

and y’all.. it’s hella baller plan

except something is going wrong and in the middle of an attack zarkon is able to get the upper hand

due to haggar’s magic and lance’s mental and emotional instability, zarkon is able to get in his head

everyone is trying to talk him down but they’re all under a lot of pressure

allura is also conflicted bc she wanted to be black lion bc she wanted to rub it in to zarkon’s face that she was stronger than he and that she could beat him at his own game

but the negativity and instability feeds into zarkon’s power and makes him and haggar stronger as they pull in voltron to finally take over the team and regain their status as the most powerful alien race

hunk realizes this and is like okay can y’all stop being negative? its clearly affecting them in a good way and it makes us an easier target

and pidge is like im literally a child pls i don’t wanna die i just got my family back it can’t end like this

shiro realizes what’s going on and he goes to save them

he uses all his energy, pulling in the positive memories (everything: first learning about space, becoming a teacher, meeting adam, meeting keith, first making team voltron, his friends and family--all of it) to push back zarkon and haggar’s powers and battle once more in the astral realm

in defeating zarkon, shiro loses his life

afterwards keith enters the ship in a hurry and is like where the fuck is shiro where’s my brother what did you do what happened

and team voltron is like hey man.. we are so so sorry

and keith cries because the last thing he ever said to shiro was mean

lance feels like its all his fault since he was supposed to be a good leader

they talk about separately while hunk pidge and allura discuss

krolia is like keith we, ur family, are here for u

and axca is there and shes like um?? hey?? sry for trying to kill u bro

and he’s like i absolutely do not wanna talk i just lost my closest friend

they talk about it later

axca tells keith abt shiro finishing lotor’s work and abt bringing people back and well..

they use the methods to help keith visit shiro in the astral realm

shiro is like oh uh hey i was just having a drink w adam we r happy

and keith is like shiro u fuckhead why would u sacrifice urself

shiro sighs bc cmon keith you KNOW why “remember what i always said? we can’t focus on what went wrong..”

“we’ve got to figure out how to make it right” keith finishes

keith breaks tf down crying and screams apologizing

“i love u shiro. ur a like a big brother to me.”

and shiro is like yeah i know and ilyt but hey. everyone’s safe and happy. im safe and happy. & you deserve to be too. you don’t need me anymore.

so the galra rule is over and everyone goes to their respected planets

romelle and the other alteans as well as some galra babes hang in earth

romelle and shay r in an apartment together and have a garden

allura realizes she may not have been the strongest leader for voltron, and couldn’t stop zarkon on her own but that physical strength doesn’t define her as a whole

her heart is strong enough to care for everyone, so thats what she does

allura starts running an inn for alteans filled with painted sceneries like altea in case anyone ever needs a reminder of home

when lance reunites with his family its a real tearjerker

rachel finally gets her jacket back and veronica is like So.. Axca 👀

the McClain’s host a huge party for everyone and it’s filled with lots of hugs and loud music and even tho lance was way too tired, he danced all night

he wouldn’t trade his family for the world—genetic and chosen

when hunk reunites with his parents they don’t let him out the house for hours, he tells them all about his new best friend shay as well as hundreds of his favorites stories from space

they are so, so proud of him

hunk spends the next days playing minecraft and animal crossing with pidge, giving their brains a rest from being on hyperdrive for 3 yrs straight

when pidge gets home she finally gets grounded by her mom, only being allowed to leave the house to see her old teammates

(same for matt and her dad)

(her mother cries so hard when they opened the door to the home)

the holt family holds movie nights filled with popcorn, cuddles, and tears

keith moves in with the holt family, and finally accepts that he has a home as well as a family

he often goes on trips with the BoM but mostly just stays on earth

after a Team Voltron sleepover in the altea inn keith and lance decide to get an apartment together and live their lives in love and in peace

everyone gets together once a year in celebration of shiro and the sacrifice he made for them

they use the ship to visit Astral Shiro and once they even met adam

everyone laughs and catches up and just... live their lives

everyone is happy

no but SERIOUSLY... so glad to have the rest of the team back. They really do make EVERYTHING better. Taichi and Yamato, yeah they’re cool, I love them, but they just don’t carry the show by themselves. And in a similar vein, the rest of the team needs Taichi and Yamato too. Otherwise they have no reason to be all dramatic and show off their cool sides.

(other than Koushirou of course who was just born Cool but it’s the kind of cool most people don’t recognize until you literally own the entire world Koushirou’s three steps from becoming Seto Kaiba except NICE)

ok back to business... last week we left off with the team finally reuniting and bringing Hikari along. For some reason the two groups both decide to stand in a straight line like two baseball teams about to shake hands. Leomon’s team still looks fricking ridiculous

Sooo jury’s out on how Taichi’s gonna react to Hikari! Yamato’s been so chill with having Takeru around, I started to wonder if we’re gonna see super over protective big bro Taichi instead this time! But for the most part he’s just surprised that she’s not surprised by the Digimon.

Hikari is creepy. lol. She’s very much the “cute little sister” type and this episode, at least, we didn’t see any kind of initiative from her, which is to be expected, I mean give the kid some time to adjust. We don’t see a lot of personality though either... I guess we can say she likes cute things, and she’s pretty darn calm... I don’t really like her voice though. It’s a perfectly fine little girl voice, but she always sounds like she’s about to doze off...

The group then basically recaps what’s been happening in the human world recently. Which is all pretty important stuff. But for some reason Taichi and Yamato don’t fill them in on what they’ve gone through?? They have to explain Takeru and Patamon because well there’s a surprise but then they’re like “oh yeah Patamon’s the holy Digimon” and I’m like WHOA. DUDES. IT’S THE HOLY DIGIMON. THE THING Y’ALL RISKED YOUR NECKS FOR. Shouldn’t there be a little more interest, both in the telling and the hearing?? XD

Koushirou’s most excited to update their digivices.

Taichi: Why so blue, Agumon?

Agumon: I shouldn’t have had so many Hawaiian blue energy drinks... but how else did they expect me to fight non stop

Koushirou even has handy dandy charts and images to illustrate. He’s going to get hired somewhere and immediately promoted to CEO, by the CEO.

Patamon: “Hi! I’m the Holy Digimon! Bow before me!”

Jou introduces himself to Takeru and Hikari as the “leader” and tries to convert them to his religion (No-play-only-study-ism) to make them his first acolytes when he inevitably becomes the season’s true final villain. But Gomamon’s all over it.

Gomamon: “You can’t have acolytes until you master maniacal laughter, Jou, didn’t you read ‘Villainy for Dummies’ like I told you to??”

Agumon adorably walks right up to Hikari and asks her if she’s okay and if she feels scared. Hikari says “Agumon’s cute!” Taichi’s face is like “cute? cute?? he’s a dinosaur! dinosaurs are cool!” but he wisely says nothing because you cannot argue with girls about what we think is cute you just cannot

Then Hikari notices something even cuter! Patamon!

Hikari: So cute! I want ten!

Takeru: Sorry, he’s one of a kind and mine!

Hikari: *looks at him* So cute! I want ten!

Takeru: Wait... of me?

In a nod to the original series, we get a scene of Taichi asking Hikari if she has a Digivice and her being like “oh that thing, I filled it with catnip and gave it to Miko”

Taichi: No digivice! Well I guess this means there’s no way she’s a Chosen Child like us!

Agumon: Infallible logic

Meaning the Zurumon are on the move! this time to FREAKING NASA

Taichi: *most unimpressed voice possible NASA??

I thought hey, it’ll be fine, we’ll just have to fight some more... but

Nasa: *launches a rocket*

Leomon, for some reason, decides now we must part. He doesn’t think these kids can survive this storm and offers to protect them as they escape. The kids are powerful against evil monsters but weak to weather lol. I’m sure the actual logic in no way was “Now that the rest of the team is back from their pointless stint in the human world we no longer need Leomon to play back-up”

They don’t agree without an argument, but Leomon insists, because he believes the Chosen Children have other important things they are meant to do. We get a cool scene of everyone making their escapes. Sora takes Mimi with her

Taichi and Hikari join Koushirou

And Yamato and Takeru “join” Jou (but really Yamato’s the one calling the shots because Jou’s busy struggling not to pee his pants)

It’s just in the nick of time... before a giant whirlpool seemingly sucks Leomon and Eldradimon into the sea.

Taichi: Oh my god did they just DIE??

Kabuterimon: Don’t look back!

Taichi: I know... we have to respect their sacrifice...

Kabuterimon: Well, that and you might be scarred to see Leomon’s reenactment of Ariel at the bottom of Ursula’s whirlpool

Taichi: huh

(look I think I’m funny and that’s what counts)

Getting all split up like this made me think they were gonna end up split up for reals, but the team manages to stay together for now.

They arrive at a new continent covered in weird spikes! Yamato picks up his digivice like a walkie-talkie and says one word: “Taichi”

it amuses me that he could only bring himself to say “Yagami” for a good while in the beginning but then he finally started saying “Taichi” and now he just can’t stop!!

Anyway he’s alerting the others to the fact that some? of the spikes on the island are actually Tortomon about to attack them. Before going to join Greymon’s attack, Taichi flings Hikari at Koushirou “HERE PROTECT MY SISTER SINCE YOU HAVE NOTHING ELSE TO DO”

jk but seriously... why does Taichi need to be all up in the action? Until now I thought it was something they all had to do to help their partners, because they usually ride on them during battle, but this episode seemed to suggest that Taichi goes out of his way to do it even more than is maybe necessary. Which doesn’t exactly come as a surprise, but xD

Reason #1229345894 why the team is better when they’re all together: Mimi is hilarious and SORA HAS A GOSH DARN PERSONALITY. She DOES, folks. We hardly got to see it recently -____- this episode at least lets her react to the others. Ugggh. Irony of ironies, Sora needs more love.

It’s a stampede! Simba! NOOOOO!

Sooo... the battle with the Tortomon goes pretty well but then this guy called Groundramon or something appears and uh... starts to eat them... like it’s pretty visceral y’all o_o le eugh

Taichi is shocked and recalls last episode when he saw Seadramon power up and evolve after eating Ebidramon. He does not choose to mention the time he was eaten by Devimon. EH IT’LL BE FINE I’M SURE THAT WASN’T IMPORTANT ANYWAY

Greymon: Don’t get eaten.

Garurumon: lol same to you

The Agumon/Gabumon bromance is honestly one of the best things about this season. Not that we get a ton of it, but when we do we do I always feel like “yes, that’s Digimon, that’s it right there”

The Digimon rev up to face off with their cannibal and Groundramon quickly decides Ikakkakumon looks the most nutritious. He probably has lots of blubber and meat on him so I guess I’d go for Ikkakumon first too

Ikkakumon: Don’t eat me!

Jou: Wait don’t! He was teaching me how to be cool!!!

Taichi: Eat him! Eat him Groundramon! I can’t let Jou be the cool one!

Yamato: Are you two fighting to see who can reach peak villain status first?

Taichi/Jou: I’m naturally competitive

ka-boom!

Our heroes are blown back by. Takeru quickly runs to check on his big brother who seems to smack his head on a rock...

Yamato: It’s cool. I’m cool. The definition of cool. Ishida Yamato. That’s me.

Sora: Oh no, I think he’s got a concussion.

Takeru: No, that’s how oniichan is on a normal day.

The team starts to feel overwhelmed! That’s when a fire ignites in Taichi’s eyes and he announces the next siege!

Yamato: Taichi...

no but okay what even IS this moment. The episode goes out of its way to show us Yamato reacting to Taichi not giving up. This is a Thing. I don’t know what he’s feeling here - impressed? Happy that Taichi’s able to bring everyone together when they’re feeling defeated? Or is he also recalling how that same desire to never fail almost got him killed and his partner transformed into an evil evolution a few episodes ago?

So like I keep saying I don’t see why we had to split up the team for so long, and for now I stand by that. But one thing’s clear: the show wanted only Yamato around to witness what happened to Taichi. (I mean, Takeru was there too, but he’s a baby xP) And even Yamato doesn’t know everything - we don’t know how much he was actually conscious for. But I feel like, if there was any point to the separation at all, that was it. I hope so anyway. I like the idea of Yamato grappling with how to know when Taichi’s going too far while at the same time really valuing the way Taichi’s able to push them to victory.

Turns out Taichi’s new plan is... even bigger guns!

Yamato: This is madness.

Taichi: No! This! Is! DIGIMON ADVENTURE:!!!!

Everyone attacks poor Groundramon in the mouth x’D im crying

The combined attacks seem to overload Groundramon and then MetalGreymon launches missiles down his throat, which cause these internal explosions. Uh, gross... like if there’s any time Jou should be puking it’s now

we won by being even more violent than normal! yay us!

Not that this means we get a break because Darknightmon chooses now to make his dramatic return!

They get blown back again

... but I love how adorably protective the big brothers are whenever it happens <3

Yamato and Taichi finally remember they never told the others much about what they’ve been up to recently, other than “we found the holy Digimon.” Now they add “and we found Darknightmon too.” Wow what a level of detail.

I honestly... expected Darknightmon to be interested in Hikari instead of Takeru xP It was a little too predictable so I was glad when he seems to go right for Takeru and Patamon after all.

Patamon, who’s recent hobby has been watching musicals, begins to sing:

Don’t ever kick a dog

because he’s just a pup!

You’d better run for cover

when the pup grows up!

Taichi: Uhh did he not see the part where Gavroche dies??

Yamato: He fell asleep before we got that far.

Angemon!!

Honestly... as a fan of 99 Adventure, Angemon there was SUCH a dramatic thing and... this isn’t. I know, I know, it’s a different show, we do things different in 2020... I just remember the excitement I felt about Angemon’s first apperance though. But, to be fair, although it takes a long time before his second appearance, once it happens Patamon always evolves to Angemon without all the fanfare and it’s just a normal evolution. So... yeah, this all makes sense xP

At least we end on a cliffhanger! What’s gonna happen?? Tune in next week!

So I guess I wasn’t that off about the team splitting up again, I was just wrong about when... next week it looks like they’ll be separated, which, although we just got everyone back together, I’m not upset about as long as each group gets focus. Now that they’re back in the digital world, there’s potential for stuff to happen. But it depends on the groups as well. I do sort of expect this is mainly a “put Taichi and Hikari” on their own maneuver.

Oh, was right about Darknightmon going for Hikari after all xP

My guess is... Angemon’s gonna fight but just not have recovered enough to stay in that form for long, and somehow that results in everyone separating... we’ll see. More importantly...

NANIMON!!!

My relationship with this guy is love-hate! I love to hate him x’D So I’m glad he’s back! Still want to see Piximon and Whamon the most but I’ll take it!

Author’s Note: Okay so i haven’t seen TWD in ages (this season at least) but I watched this scene again and forgot how much I was in love with Rick Grimes. Like insanely in love with Rick Grimes. Thank you for reminding me.

Requested: by anon, Can I request a Rick Grimes x Reader where they were separated at the prison and the Reader got taken into the Claimers with Daryl (one of her best friends) and they reunite at the scene where Rick bites the guy's throat out. Thank you!!!

Summary: the request

Genre: idk bro

You were more worried about Daryl then you were about yourself. You should have been worried about yourself, knowing in your heart that Rick was probably going nuts looking for you and Daryl but you couldn’t help but think more about your best friends safety then your own. You and Rick had been together as friends for awhile but everything romantic between you were fairly new. This was the first time you had been taken from him and you knew he would search the world to find you and Daryl.

Still, there was a part of you that wondered if you would ever be found. If you would finally die at the hands of men instead of the undead. The Claimers had been a pain but now they were possibly your end.

You stood at the end of a road, looking out at Rick and your heart ached for him. You saw Carl and Michonne, watching with careful eyes and noticing that you and Daryl were standing now as captureres.

Even from this far away you could vividly tell that Rick was angry and you weren’t sure how long he would last if something happened to you or Daryl. Or Michonne and Carl for that matter.

Your hands were free right now but you knew you couldn’t do anything. At least you knew that you shouldn’t. There were a few different ways that what happened next could go down and that was mostly depended on what the different parties did.

Somehow though they managed to begin beating Daryl, and your mind was a blur as the managed to grab everyone in the process. Michonne was pinned to the ground, Carl was struggling with one of the larger men, Rick was on his knees, watching everything happen.

You were resisting but you were more so watching. Watching and waiting for something to happen, for Rick to do something, for an opening to arise. Joe walked around the chaos, many things happening around him simultaneously. He was adamant at Rick.

“I heard this one was you little girlfriend! Shame really, seeing a girl like that go to waste on a man like you,” Joe said, his eyes landing on yours. One of his men had you held flush to his body and you spit on the dirt ground, causing an eruption of some sort of laughter from the men who were paying attention to you.

“You leave her alone,” Rick growled. There was something behind his eyes that made you cock your head at him in confusion. A look you didn’t recognize. A look that scared you.

“We’re going to first beat Daryl to death, then do this girl,” he pointed to Michonne, “and then your girl,” he pointed to you, “and then the boy.”

You almost lost it at the thought of them doing anything to Carl. Just thinking about how much you loved that boy and how much you would lose it at the thought of him getting hurt. The anger you would have. Rick was probably feeling that ten fold. That was his kid.

“Then I’ll shoot you then we’ll be square,” Joe said through a sinister smile. Joe held a gun to Rick's temple and it shifted. You saw it shift in Rick. His head butted back harshly and there was a gunshot, toward Rick's ear but not even grazing him. There was a moment of sheer wonderment as one of the men continued to pin down Carl and you heard Joe’s voice again.

“What are you gonna do now sport?” he asked, locking Rick into his arms again.

When you saw Rick bite out Joes neck you nearly fell over from sheer surprise.Finally though you came to your senses and grabbed at the gun being held against you, shooting the man who was holding you. Michonne had done the same and you both took out Daryl's attackers as Rick dropped Joe to the ground, blood on his face.

You raised a gun to the guy who had Carl and Rick stepped forward, holding your arm for only a moment.

“He’s mine,” Rick growled. You stepped back understanding. The man let Carl go and threw up his hands but it wasn’t going to do him any good. Rick stabbed him again. And again. And again.

You remembered reading Julius Caesar and school and imagined if there was the blood in front of you now around Caesar for some reason. Rick stepped back and put his hand on Carls shoulder.

“Are you alright son?” he asked and he nodded, shaking slightly. Rick pulled him in for a hug and then he moved to squeeze Michonnes shoulder and hug Daryl tightly, comforted by his friends being alive. He moved to you and you held up a finger.

“Don’t kiss me,” you told him sternly and he cracked a smile, wrapping his arms around you.

Everyone was pretty shaken up so Michonne took Carl into the car to sleep some (at least Carl fell asleep somehow, you were all pretty shocked at that) and Daryl spoke to Rick a bit before you came back from straying to collect your thoughts.

Daryl gave you and Rick some time alone as you sat beside him on the street leaning against the car. He threw an arm around you and pulled you closely to his side. You sighed contently.

“I thought I’d lost you guys,” Rick said carefully. You squeeze your eyes shut and shook your head.

“Can’t get rid of Daryl and I that easy,” you whispered softly. You looked up at Rick and he still looked shocked. His eyes land on yours and he softens some.

“I’d sure hope not. You think my girl can get away with some annoying as hell criminals?” he asked and you shrugged, smiling.

“Nope I’m too resilient. I can’t believe you bit his throat out. It was kinda hot,” you teased. Rick rolled his eyes and kissed your forehead gently.

“You would’ve done somethin’ similar.”

“Uh no. I would have shot him. Like the rest of us,” you teased. Rick let you lay on his chest and relished in the feeling of you being back in his arms.

Movie Night

This drabble got out of hand. I have nothing to say for myself.

Katsuki couldn’t decide if he loved or hated their movie nights. What was worse, he loved and hated them for the same reason.

Let’s back up for a second. For five years now - starting early in high school and continuing to the present, when they were two years into their careers as heroes - Katsuki and Kirishima had been having regular movie nights. They would alternate between the two of them who chose the movie, and Katsuki would always make them fancy stove-popped popcorn, mostly because Kirishima loved it so much. No one tell him that, though.

At first, it had just been two bros sitting a platonic distance apart on a bed, watching movies. That went on for about a year, until the first time Katsuki had chosen a horror film. Apparently scary movies were an exception to Kirishima’s whole manly show-no-fear thing, because by the end of the movie he had a lap full of blubbering redhead and a whole ass existential crisis over the realization that he had a crush on his best and only friend. By the end of their second year, Kirishima was convinced horror was Katsuki’s favorite movie genre (it definitely wasn’t) and Katsuki was starting to wonder if he was a masochist (he definitely was).

Outside of the movie nights, Kirishima stuck to his usual level of friendly PDA, but everything seemed to fly during scary movies. Handholding, lap sitting, wrapping himself in Katsuki’s arms, burying his face in Katsuki’s shoulder, burying his face in Katsuki’s lap (are you trying to kill a man, Kirishima Eijirou?).

It only got worse as they got older. Between their different styles of training and Kirishima’s third year growth spurt, their size different was pretty significant by the time they graduated and moved into their shared apartment. At some point a threshold seemed to have been crossed. Suddenly, instead of climbing into Katsuki’s lap, Kirishima was pulling Katsuki into his own lap during scary movies, holding him tightly and burying his face in his chest to avoid watching the screen. The first time this happened, Katsuki had rolled his eyes and called him a big fucking baby, then proceeded to spend the rest of the movie running his fingers through Kirishima’s hair. This was also the night Katsuki had the unfortunate realization that he loved him. The epiphany had him briefly considering quitting horror movies, but he couldn’t bring himself to do it. Yeah, he’s definitely a masochist.

Tonight was their scheduled movie night, but it had been a weird day for them at work, both professionally and personally. He and Kirishima had been working the same scene. They managed to take down the villains they’d been fighting against, but this was only made possible by a rather reckless and ill-advised decision on Katsuki’s part, and Kirishima was pissed.

They and the other heroes on the case had had instructions to stick together, but at some point he looked over to Kirishima to see that one of villains had him on the ground and was charging up his quirk to do god-knows-what to him. Katsuki’s mind had gone blank, and he had split off from the group to chase the guy, following him deep into the villains’ hide out. This had ultimately led to their victory, but he could see the anger in Kirishima’s eyes as soon as they were reunited. Katsuki had been confused and mad at first, and the two of them started their drive home in a tense silence. However, at some point Kirishima had reached over and roughly grabbed Katsuki’s hand. He still looked angry and he wasn’t speaking to Katsuki, but he held his hand tightly for the remainder of the drive. That’s when Katsuki realized that Kirishima was upset with him because he’d been scared of losing him.

This strange, charged energy was still in the air when they got home. When they separated to shower it wasn’t clear if Kirishima still wanted to have their movie night, so Katsuki sat on the couch and waited for him after he had cleaned off and changed. Sure enough, Kirishima returned to their living room ten minutes later in sweat pants with damp hair, laptop in tow. With a slight pang of disappointment, Katsuki realized it was Kirishima’s turn to choose, meaning that a horror film was out. It probably would’ve been easier to make stuff less awkward between them with Kirishima using him as a literal security blanket. With a small sigh, Katsuki left him to it and went to make their popcorn.

When he returned Kirishima had turned off the lights and loaded a movie. Katsuki set the bowl of popcorn on the coffee table, then squinted at the screen to read the title. It was The Babadook. He turned to look at Kirishima with a raised eyebrow. In their five years of movie nights, Kirishima hadn’t once picked a scary movie, claiming only to tolerate them for Katsuki.

Kirishima responded not with words, but by grabbing his wrist and pulling him down into his lap. He’d never been so forward before, usually waiting until scary stuff was happening onscreen to initiate contact. Katsuki’s heart hammered in his chest, and he hoped desperately that Kirishima couldn’t feel it.

Kirishima pressed play on his laptop, and Katsuki tried his best to relax and watch the film. However, they weren’t even through the opening credits when Kirishima spoke.

“Katsuki,” he said carefully, the use of his given name giving Katsuki heart palpitations. He narrowed his eyes at Kirishima in a feeble attempt to save face.

Kirishima continued, unfazed. “There’s no pressure for you to do anything with this information or even to respond, but I realized today how much I’d regret it if something happened and I’d never told you. So, uh, this is me confessing. I really like you, Katsuki. I have for a really long time.”

Katsuki blinked, frowning slightly as he processed Kirishima’s words. His crush-turned-love-of-his-life liked him back. How long was a long time? How much useless time had he spent pining and watching B-list horror films?

Kirishima seemed to take his silence as a rejection, because suddenly he was saying, “like I said, no pressure for an answer, I just wanted to get it off my ch-“

Katsuki cut him off by crashing their lips together. It was rushed and probably too intense, fueled by five years of thinking he’d never be allowed to do it, but it still made him lightheaded. After a few seconds without reciprocating, Kirishima relaxed into the kiss, angling his head and snaking a hand to the back of Katsuki’s neck.

After a minute, Kirishima pulled back and rested his forehead against Katsuki’s.

“Does this mean you like me back?” He whispered, slightly breathless.

“Eiji,” he said, basking in the way the nickname caused Kirishima to tighten his hold on his waist slightly. “I don’t even fucking like horror movies.”

Kirishima laughed so hard that Katsuki fell off his lap. It didn’t really matter though, because now he could sit there whenever he wanted.

A chapter I finally enjoyed with a lot of developments other than just Titan bashing. It would've been perfect if we also got some answers about Levi/Hange and Historia but well we can't have everything I suppose.

Finally got some great character development that is amazing payoff after all these years! The Shiganshina vets, Paradis Commanders, and Marley crew all had great moments!

Impressive how so many of the many many plotlines in the air were allowed some great development in just one, insane chapter.

I loved this chapter. I feel like shingeki is really at it's best when we have character moments and plenty of dialogue.

In this chapter, Armin thought back to Eren’s monologue at the ocean about killing everyone in the outside world. 56.2% of you don’t think that’s Eren’s goal at the moment, but that he would be willing to do it if push came to rumble. 20.1% think his end goal is in fact to flatten the earth, whereas 15.8% don’t believe Eren would ever do that in 2000 years.

Isayama has been making it so its not clear one way or the other. There are arguments for and against all of the options. I am waiting for a different plan altogether, but I would be fine with either way really.

Eren himself will never do that. But if he is influenced by the memories of so many Attack Titan holders and the will to always move forward and fight, he probably will.

Eren will use the rumbling to deter the world, not destroy it unless he has to.

He'll use it but for a purpose we don't know about yet. Possibly a way related to the S1 miner story and the walls going deeper underground.

I think that Eren's ideology of being born into this world as a free person is something that isn't just applied to Eldians. We know that Eren learned that those across the ocean are the same as those behind the walls. With all of the opinions on Eren floating around at the moment, Armin tries to convince the others that their friend isn’t on the side of evil. The majority, at about 60% believe that Armin’s not positive of what he’s saying, but is trying to be optimistic. 32.5% think Armin truly believes Eren’s had no choice in what side he’s on. Only 6.2% think Armin’s lying and tricking Yelena in that way.

He is being naive and basing his thoughts on his own perception of Eren. Or, he knows that Eren is up to something but needs to convince the others to work with Eren.

I think he’s pretending to support Eren to trick both the 104th and Yelena. The emotion he had after Eren hurt Mikasa was real, no way he’s just over that. But I think it stands true that without Eren, Pradise’s fight would be lost. After everything that happened, though, why would the 104th want to help Eren? Thus Armin knew he would have to manipulate them (and Yelena, for other reasons) for the greater good in the end.

Yes I believe so. Armin felt like he did not understand Eren anymore because his actions didn’t make sense. That was until Yelena expelled their plan to him in prison. I think that was the missing piece that solved Armin’s puzzle. He may not be certain about the exact plan Eren has but he has enough to go on that Eren would never agree to euthanise people.

I don't think he fully trusts Eren, but he knows that right now, whatever plan Eren has, keeping him alive will be best for Paradise's side. I think he definitely wants to see the good in Eren, but he also realises there might be darker motives in him, though he won't tell the others that in order to rally them properly.

It keeps pushing along the development she has been receiving since the Time Skip. After her conversation with Eren, she more than likely associates it with the Ackerman Bond. Her going out without is a statement that she's truly doing things by own will. Will it be the last time she wears it? I don't think so.

The scarf is her sanctuary and her cage. Leaving it behind is bittersweet and I think the next time she wears it (if she does so) it'll symbolize something totally new.

I want to see Eren's reaction to noticing Mikasa without her scarf

I'm glad that Mikasa decided to leave the scarf behind. She needs to live her life and become strong, independent, smart, mature woman. Being attached to Eren was only stopping her from her own growth. It doesn't matter if Eren was honest while saying about hating her. Mikasa is now opening her eyes and I hope that she will keep moving forward.

Mikasa removing her scarf leads into a perfect segway for Eren wrapping it around her again, as he promised in chapter 50. So I am actually quite excited for that as an Eremika fan, rather than worried.

Gabi’s been in the story for quite a while now, and has finally come around to the idea that not all the walldians are evil devils. Despite criticism of Gabi being a common sight, the majority of fans, at 37.8%, loved her development and are excited to see what she does next. 27.1% weren’t fans at first but have enjoyed her development, and 23.2% still don’t love her but she’s grown on them. Only 11.9% haven’t enjoyed anything Gabi’s had to offer the narrative.

Granted, Gabi isn't nearly as bad as she was when she started, but her realization came way too late for me to feel anything for her. The damage at this point is already done, so I can't feel anything but complete disdain for her and could care less whether she lives or dies (though it seems like even now a lot of people are still rooting for the latter)

Gabi and Falco's scene this chapter really hit me. So much beauty and heart. I feel like the story would miss something without them, aside from their relevance to the plot.

The Gabi-Falco moment wasn't that important to me since I literally just don't feel any particular attachment to the characters, but it WAS important to the story and it needed it happen.

When will Zeke scream? 1,246 responses

A solid 35% of the fandom believe Zeke will only scream if he’s totally cornered by enemy troops. Following behind that at 26.4%, respondents feel that he will be doing it immediately in the next chapter. 20.5% think it will happen if and when he is torn out of his titan by an enemy soldier. Once he notices the people with balck arm bands who are gathered in the front line as pixis ordered, it will be his only salvation... again.

Depends on how bad the interference gets between him and Eren. He panics whenever things don’t go his way and that would be enough of a distraction to reach Eren. Although once they titanise they will also try to eat any surrounding shifters excluding Eren because of Zeke’s influence. It’s a reliable last resort for him.

If Eren gets to him and does his own plan. Once Zeke realizes Eren didn't uphold to the euthanasia plan, he'll scream

The only way he won’t scream is if Armin transforms and turns the tide of the battle. It seems that Zeke is only going to scream as a last resort, but if the battle doesn’t shift back in his favor soon, then he will for sure. I think it’s on Armin at this point.

Not if Eren has a say in it. For all he knows the 104th are still in the building, along with anyone infected that he cares about. If Zeke tries to scream, I feel that Eren will somehow stop him.

Is it wrong that I WANT the Yeagerbros to use the Rumbling? It will basically wipe out the rest of the outside world that has done nothing but persecute Eldians and try to exterminate the protagonists. I see nothing wrong with this 'genocide' plan of theirs.

If this is really the final battle I worry it'll be rushed. Mikasa only just started her development to "get free" from Eren and Armin still hasn't lived up to Erwin's legacy. Then there's Hange and Levi, who I still hope to see in action again. Same for Annie. If we don't get to see female titan in action one last time, I'll be disappointed. Not sure how can that happen, since she's still back in Wall Sheena (and I hoped Armin would see her wake up), but please...

I'm genuinely at a point where this whole 'mystery MC motives' thing is making me want to drop the series for a while. Please just rip the bandaid off if Eren is going to be a legit ~villain~ or whatever, stop dragging this out for so long.

With this being the last chapter of the current volume now would be a perfect time to check in on levi and hange's conditions and perhaps could pace the way for some good angsty chapters that eventually lead to them two coming into this battle with a brilliant game changing fighting strategy (maybe some hange backstory too if we are lucky enough like cmon its the final arc and hanges the only main cast that hasnt had any hint of a background)

I ache for Nile, we misjudged him, he is such a sweetheart with his three little girls! <3 I have a bad feeling he'll die, but I really, really hope he survives this, because from *his* original trio, he's the only one left. Mike and Erwin are gone. :(

A lot of people think Armin only function in this arc is just to blow up and follow Eren's game but I think he is going to become the third option in this conflict, as soon he confirms his fears about Eren true intentions with rumbling.

As for the titan serum wine victims, maybe they won't be affected if they don't hear Zeke's scream if they cover their ears hard enough

Eren is a shit. Who puts his friends and family of dead friend into a prison together with potential titans? If someone from Sasha's family dies because they were locked in Shingashina, Eren will be officially the worst person ever and I will root for his terrible and painful death.

Finally the story is starting to progress again after months of nothing really happening that builds the story. Finally we are getting answers without getting anymore questions. This is a lot less infuriating than previous chapters have been.

i feel like there is going to be a lot of deaths tho since we are in for a large scale battle, mainly with all the people that consumed the wine. but i still think Hizuru will come into play here and in a dangerous way.

I just hope a happy ending for everyone (or most of them) but knowing isayama, I will read happy endings only in fanfiction

I wish for Eren not to turn like a villain, I want him to keep his same goals from the very beginning and save his friends, the Eldians, and unite them with Marley all together. I hope he can team up with Reiner and defeat Zeke. Most of all, I would like Mikasa to break her bonds she has with Eren and live for herself. And for Armin, to free Annie with the help of the Survey Corps and Reiner with Porco together so that Annie could fight on the right side for once, then return home peacefully.

If Armin isn't lying I'll eat one (1) entire issue of Bessatsu Shounen Magazine.

It was amazing and it felt a bit more hopeful than the other chapters. But since it is supposed to be the last arc, something big will happen for sure and i am not ready XD!

Mikasa does not wear the protective shields. Foreshadowing? My Eekstinct tells me she is going to be injured in this battle and then Kiyomi makes a move that shock everyone, drags Mikasa away and keeps her promise of protecting her. And then Hizuru arc begins EEEEEEEEK

One of the greatest cliffhangers ever. It created such a conflicting feeling in me. If Zeke doesn't die asap, he is going to scream. If he does, Eren won't be able to activate the rumbling to defeat Marley. It's two terrible results.

People could use some pointers from Yelena and stop looking at Eren as this messiah-like figure who is here to bring world peace or balance or any of that stuff. Eren doesn't fight for the world, he never did. He fights for the freedom of him and his people and if flattening the earth gets him that then so be it. After all, he will keep moving forward, until his enemies are destroyed.

Probably my favorite chapter out of the last year! I thought it was going to be more action heavy but there were so many touching character moments and I absolutely loved it for taking its time to touch on almost everyone

Unpopular Opinion (don't kill me), I feel that Pieck is such a Mary Sue. I get that she is highly skilled among the Warriors, but she has seriously only had one "mistake" since her introduction (Panzer Unit explosion). Other Warriors such as Reiner, Bortolo Colon, even Zeke have suffered multiple beat downs throughout the story. I just want her to not feel as invincible at times, as it seems she's always one step ahead.

thom- i hate to start this off with a jotakak-themed song because i know some people Despise jk. i’m sorry for y’all who do, but ahh this song has been stuck in my head for days now! :’( In terms of the SDA, i always think of this song as like…jotaro’s bittersweet journey w his feelings for kak. it’s something about the like, ghostly windchimes in the beginning, the phone buzzing in the bg, and the “please don’t run away”s man, ahhh. I listen to this song a lot when brainstorming him coming to accept that friendship is as far as he and kak go. However,“ The pitter patter gave a rather rinse and lather feeling/ As opposed to shitty attitudes that made me bitter after laughter/ And I dearly regretted it” really makes me think of pt. 4 jotaro in any context. We only see the end result of his development from SDC, but like hhh… do you think he regrets being so gruff? I think of that 1 fanart where he’s looking at the group picture + hoping they knew he wasn’t annoyed by them (or something along those lines, i forget the exact line…ahh)

something’s missing- So, ofc not all parts of this song apply.. and truthfully, I listen to this song while thinking of the immediate period after the crusade in the SDA and how the crusaders are all left with this hole in them (..@kakyoin literally.. i’m sorry i had to. also, abdul is the hole). Out of all of them, though, I always think of Jotaro the most w this song- “My dad asks, ‘Were you okay out where you were stranded?’ How do I tell him that I wasn’t just okay… I was so much better?” LIKE DAMN THAT IS ONE (1) KUJO JOTARO… :( i think he comes back from the crusade and just feels.. severely misplaced. Going back to Japan and the girls following him to school every morning feels so alien to him.

tempest rhapsody- this song is just… *chef kiss* It makes me think of like. star platinum’s first manifestation, and of the emotions one would feel during a 50-day crusade to a place you’ve never been before, where you run the risk of death at least once a week…how would it feel to know if you got seriously injured in a fight, there would be a very real possibility that your *cough* dearly beloved *cough* mother could die? this song is my answer to that question

only in sleep- another choir song! i cannot help myself. This one is more for canon Jotaro. I’ve read a few fics about the universe reset where he’s reunited with the other crusaders one last time before everything becomes nil, and…..augh. “The years had not sharpened their smooth round faces, I met their eyes and found them mild — Do they, too, dream of me, I wonder, And for them am I too a child?“ is imo such a jotaro 4 am deliberation

softly- THIS. this was the Original jotakak song, no offense thom. i used to listen to this song on REPEAT while reading nessun dorma, ahhh. so much of the sda jotakak dynamic is shaped from that fic and this song, hghshg. Anyhow, now that I’ve worked on the development of their relationship in the sda, this song is most definitely a song for the jotaro who unknowingly pines in 3rd year and then comes to realize that ah…these are Emotions during uni. during their third year, jotaro and kakyoin do a ton of self-exploration, and spend more than one night floating in the pitch black void of the ocean talking about what they’re going to do after graduation with only the stars to accompany them. they lose this when jotaro goes to florida for uni + kakyoin paris, but they make up for it by calling each other all the time, so “Touch you softly I call you up late at night” made this song an instant hit in my book ghshghw. I adore this song, through and through. ;u;

post-published honorable mention bc i rediscovered him while i was workin on polnareff’s playlist!! DOLLY ZOOM is another really good song for pining jotaro. in the sda, he feels really Horrible about having a crush on kakyoin for a long time because he and his family (that is phrased weird, i am sorry) are the entire reason kakyoin got a hole punched right through his abdomen and spine. they’re the entire reason kakyoin spent months learning how to walk and use his legs again. he doesn’t do anything except bury his feelings because, to him, it’d be Really selfish to do otherwise. i listened to dolly zoom nonstop when i started writing Jotaro’s Decade-Long Yearn because it captures the guilt really well, ahh.

Kakyoin (it is 1:24 am as i’m starting this… let’s see how long i agonize over this part lmao)

ultraviolence- ahh, ze Mindworm Song. I really despise diokak and the fact that he had to spend like…3-4 months with the mindworm just chilling in his brain, but I can’t ignore the fact that he latched onto dio’s friendship and was initially elated to have that whole thing happen. It haunts Kakyoin in canon, and it Most Definitely haunts him in the SDA, and i think he and jotaro have a lot of conversations about how and why and what that whole experience was like. I always end up coming back to this song when brainstorming this year in the au. The beginning just sounds so lonely, and the background choir/ voices really give me the heebie jeebies. Then, there’s the build-up to the beat drop, which really make me think of like. what being mindwormed could feel like? And how it must feel to be so lost in that sauce that you become a passenger in your own mind, lost to the whim of one super manipulative vampire, augh. “You give me love, you know you give me love with your ultraviolet rays” ties into a few of FKA Twigs’ other songs where she sings about not being enough and really obsessively deriving love from someone whose attention is ultimately really harmful and unhealthy, and I think about that and Kakyoin a lot. :(

sound and color- so truthfully, this is my go-to song for any character that dies/almost dies and comes back, or goes through a Huge Life Change. kakyoin fits both of these bills to a T! this song makes me think of getting used to being around such a rowdy but tight-knit group of people who genuinely care about you All Day Long after spending your entire life in isolation. I always think of like, a happiness montage when the second half of this song comes around, and the montage i daydream about for kak during that section is *chef kiss* Sound + Color is like one of the best songs ever, and it’d be a crime to not have a kak setting for it.

first love/late spring- fellas, here’s the kakyoin equivalent to jotaro’s softly. this song was IT, back when the sergio-divergent au and the “All the Crusaders Live” au were two separate things. back then, kakyoin and jotaro’s realization that oh, fuck, they really meant the entire world to each other happened much earlier in the plot. Looking back on that now makes me squint, but I do think that this song is still really fitting for kakyoin exploring those feelings- friendship is one thing, but romance is something entirely different and a lot more intimate. i think it’s a tug-of-war for him, between wanting to jump in to those feelings and wanting to run far far away from them because he doesn’t want to be wrong and ruin their friendship. good times in the kak hole

last words of a shooting star- I really love the bastard fucker side of kakyoin that is explored and celebrated in our fanon, but I can never shake the fact that some of his last thoughts were of his parents (and i think he was sorry for making them worry? which… baby…) and that his polite, “outwardly anxious” presentation was this big facade for like.. the Deep and Soul-Wrenching loneliness he felt because he was a stand user? The first stanza and “They’ll never know how I’d stared at the dark in that room/ With no thoughts” make me think of kakyoin deeply- if his family had never gone to egypt and he’d never met dio or jotaro, what would have happened to him? Who would he be? i’ve always been super attached to that part of kak bc fundamentally… I Relate. but also i am just fond of it because it makes me sob- he deserved so much better than to get murdered by the same man who manipulated his entire identity right at the climax of his character arc….some crimes can never be forgiven, hirohiko….

vertigo- i don’t listen to this song for kak often, but it is a Quintessential Kakyoin song. according to khalid’s twitter, vertigo is a song about “Overcoming overthinking. After every dark days, there’s a brighter outcome. Being at a super low place in your life and realizing that, there’s other people going through that same path you’re walking down. There’s always light at the end of the tunnel. It’s also a story about fear of abandonment.” which….Big Kakyoin Energies. The “Are we alive?Or are we dreaming?” part also ties back into the Kakyoin Parties in a Coma for a Month arc- your mind has a wild wild time when you’re in a medically induced coma, theoretically because it’s trying to fill in the blanks for all of the stuff you’re sensing? And coming out of a medically induced coma is a bizarre experience, where it’s hard to tell if you’re still in the coma and just imagining things or if you’re actually awake. Kakyoin has a mad time in the month immediately after SDC, one that i’m sure he doesn’t enjoy too much after the death 13 fight.

honorable mention goes to i am not yours- this has been a kak song to me for a long time as well. the context of the song is way different from my interpretation for this setting, but AH. I just think kakyoin really struggles to differentiate and understand romantic feelings. This song really reminds me of that struggle, and I think also touches nicely on like. the identity issue of it all too.. “yet i am i, who long to be” yanno? ; J ; it’s hard for me to explain

another honorable mention, my statue sinking. in the sda, after the events in egpyt, kakyoin is thrown into a coma for like an entire month while his body gets operated back together, and then he spends months in physical therapy learning how to walk w a prosthetic spine (kudos to cyborg speedwagon being a reverse engineering madman :D). i like to imagine that there’s also some degree of therapy going on this whole time, also. you don’t just get donuted + thrown into a coma for a month without some counseling to get you back on your feet..i think the lasting effects of dio’s influence are addressed here, but only briefly because it’s not something kakyoin is eager to explore. however, I think that this song captures the like... distress? i guess? of knowing that your life has been irreparably thrown off course because of dio. like yes, you met some really wonderful people that helped you learn how deeply healing friendship could be! but also.. you lost months of your life to mind control, and then another month to a coma, and then additional months to training your body to function again....there’s some psychological stress there. While I think that Jotaro and Polnareff are affected the most by the crusade, I think they all emerge from it with some degree of ptsd. Being targeted by complete strangers at all times of day cannot be good for your mental health, you know? Anyhow, I think My Statue Sinking captures that aftermath feeling really well. Everyone survives and recovers from the crusade, but there’s a part in all of them that is lost to Egypt.

on to sergio!! (it is now 2:04 am lmaooooooo) sergio will be easy because I only ever listen to the same handful of songs when I’m writing him hdhgh

i will come to you- this is THE sergio song. i think of this song every time i write about him, whether it’s the “believe in me…” “also believe in me” lyric exchange that i imagine he has with both tomoko and holly; the “and i will pray to my father…my father…and he will abide” part being about him reaching out to joseph with his final breaths and spilling all of the beans about dio and begging him to finish things so that Tomoko and Josuke, the Kujos, and he and Suzi can be safe; the “foreeever……foreee-eever.. forever..” part being where he dies and his soul passes into the next realm.. “even the spirit of truth [golden prophet] whom the world [..yeah..] cannot receive, because it seeth him not [bc suad defects and buries sergio instead of bringing his dead body to dio]. Neither knoweth him, but you know him…for he dwelleth in you and he shall be in you [literally the entire joestar/kujo/higashikata family being so near and dear to him + his spirit being with them even after death]” and then, like.. george i, jonathan, and george ii coming to retrieve his soul during the “heeeee shallll beee in youuu” part… “i will not leave you comfortless. i Will Not leave.. You Comfortless… iiii wiiiill come…. to you.. to You” part being about his soul mingling within star platinum and crazy diamond because he has a Need, even in death, to protect them. UGH (also his essence being especially prevalent in crazy diamond, which is partially why its power is to repair things!! bc hamon! ; O ;) literally I have an Entire music video with sergio’s death set to this music. i’ve listened to it way too many times.

when david heard- so to be frank this is actually more of a joseph song, but it’s only a joseph song when sergio exists + gets murdered. :o i cried the first time i listened to this, and then months later i listened to it while thinking of sergio + like. sobbed fr fr. Joseph is asleep when Sergio calls him, so he gets sergio’s final message as a voicemail on his answering machine hours after the fact. the message itself is chilling because Joseph had no clue his son had gone on this huge mission by himself to kill Dio, and now he’s dead! however, it’s made even worse because Joseph wasn’t there to pick the call up and comfort his son in his dying breaths or do Anything. it’s just like Caesar, which is. god awful. it’s such a horrible realization because sergio, whom joseph named after what caesar wanted to name his own son, has been condemned to the same fate as his namesake. Thus this song- i’ve yet to come across a song that captures the feeling of hearing that kind of news so well. (also when i tag things as my sOOOOON or *cries my son in 8-part harmony a la whitacre*, this is the song i’m referencing :D)

zombies / terrified- ahhh, these songs capture the HORROR sergio feels upon sensing dio’s presence in Japan really well. (also “I’m going to eat you alive/please don’t find me rude, but i don’t eat fast food/ so don’t run too fast” is SUCH a dio mood…) Sergio maintains his composure about the Dio Dilemma for a good year before he flies off the handle, and his entire proto-crusade against the vampire is just. Laced with paranoia, even if he is learning a ton of useful skills. These two songs capture that feeling of something constantly watching/creeping up on you so well, and ever since i discovered them, I’ve listened to them for Sergio inspo.

the prophet- This is the only song I’ve done so far that the characters would actually listen to lmao. Sergio is a Huge fan of The Temptations, and his stand is actually named after this song! (+ the esoteric title for the hermit, which was really amazing luck on my end ; J ;) it also had a huge hand in figuring out what his stand power would be, the lyric that decided it was “God doesn’t listen to the words you pray; he hears what your heart has got to say.” However, the entire last stanza of the song ties really well into his character arc fhshgh. Also, this song just feels like it could Be the child of Bloody Stream, if that makes any sense. it’s so groovy and funky, but the lyrics are like big ominous lmao. I was super ecstatic to find this song- if sergio were to ever get an animation, this song would be the OP, yanno?

armageddon- This is another “this song would be on their personal playlist” song. Sergio’s got a lot of love for all styles of music in his heart, but jazz is his home base and always what he comes back to. I like to imagine that Lisa Lisa’s husband introduces Sergio to Wayne Shorter’s music at the age of like 8 or 9, and Sergio’s just. obsessed with the man’s music for the rest of his life. I really love Shorter’s explanation for the meaning of this song and its album as a whole: “What I’m trying to express here is a sense of judgment approaching - judgment for everything alive from the smallest ant to man. I know that the accepted meaning of ‘Armageddon’ is the last battle between good and evil - whatever it is. But my definition of the judgment to come is a period of total enlightenment in which we will discover what we are and why we’re here.” Like… wig.. I feel like that’s such big sergio energy. Armageddon itself also feels like a really nice ED- it’s lively, but in a good episode-ending kind of way. Do i dream of animating Sergio’s adventure one day? Mayhaps.

honorable mention goes to just my imagination/ my girl- We’ve covered that Sergio adores The Temptations, so it’s no secret that he would listen to these songs ceaselessly. however, i really like the broadway harmonies + instrumentals that they did for Ain’t Too Proud, so that’s what’s goin in here. these songs are THE tomoko/sergio songs…He loves Tomoko and the way she quips + teases + gets up to nonsense with him So Much. There’s a huge part of him that has No Idea what Tomoko sees in a music geek like him, but ughh he is so grateful that she likes him because she is a Goddess. he’s blessed yo..

Aspects & Fanfics Ep. 19: The Pact - Part 1

New entry on the “Aspects & Fanfics” blog inspired on Sanders Sides by Thomas Sanders, Joan S. and the Foster Dawg team. When I conceived this story, I initially conceived it as a finale, because I feel that it has got progressively disconnected from the original source to a point that I feel that there are so many good stories I could make and I can’t to conform to my own created continuity... but as I was writing it, I couldn’t help adding snippets of storylines for future episodes. What can I say? I just love writing it, and I’ll keep on writing it until I run out of ideas.

This story is a two-parter, and here comes the first part. Part two will be released in a few days, as it is almost ready. As usual, if you wanna check any previous entries, you can find them right here. And I leave you now with the story. Until next time.

SYNOPSIS: Roman has been turned into a Dark Side and he misses Virgil. A mysterious sorcerer asks him to get some objects and a black cauldron from Remus’ room in the Dark Realm. With them, Roman could become a Light Side again, permanently.

VIRGIL: I know. Until we meet again, Roman, I love you…

[Virgil walks some steps. Then suddenly turns back, runs and gives a long kiss to Roman, then runs to the door in tears. Patton runs behind him]

ROMAN: [also in tears] I love you too, Virgil.

[intro sequence]

[Thomas, Logan, Patton, Virgil and Deceit are already in their places]

THOMAS: What is up, everybody? Here we are. It’s been five days, and we’re still thinking on something to help Roman. Logan, have you got anything yet?

LOGAN: I’m trying, Thomas, but I can’t come up with anything. The only thing that comes to my mind is too big of a risk, especially now that Roman is not in a good shape after what he had to go through.

THOMAS: You mean Roman inhibiting himself, right? No, we already tried that method twice, and both times the Side almost died. We can’t try that again.

DECEIT: Tell me about it. If I hadn’t been saved by the Dark Master on the last minute, because he needed me for his evil plot, I wouldn’t be here now. We have to find a way to get Roman out of his dark self and back into the light, as soon as possible.

PATTON: Yeah, Roman being a Dark Side is an awful idea. I mean, Roman is still Roman. We would love him the same whether he is a Light Side or a Dark Side. The problem is that it’s his relation with Virgil what is at risk. The prospect of living away from your one true love for the rest of your life must be devastating.

VIRGIL: Thanks for reminding me, dad.

PATTON: I’m sorry, son, I…

VIRGIL: It’s okay. That’s not gonna happen. I’m sure of that.

THOMAS: At least I’m glad that your hopes are high, Virgil.

VIRGIL: I have no choice, Thomas. Thinking negatively would only be harmful for Roman. I must stay positive, for him and for me. Isn’t it ironic? Only a few months ago, I was the embodiment of negativity, and now it’s me who must act positively. You never know what life has in store for you.

PATTON: You’ve grown so much, son, and I’m such a proud dad!

DECEIT: Keep up with that positivity, Virgil. You’ll see how, when you least expect it, Roman will be appearing in front of the TV as if nothing had happened. [sighs] I wish this was true right now…

[Roman suddenly rises up in his place]

ROMAN: What’s up, guys?

[everyone gets startled at Roman’s sudden appearance]

VIRGIL: Roman? What are you doing here? You shouldn’t…

ROMAN: Relax, Amado Emo, I’m fine now. Everything’s solved! I’m a Light Side again!

VIRGIL: Is… is that true? But how?

DECEIT: [closing his eyes and crossing his hands] I wish for a million dollars to fall on my hands right now! [nothing happens] Well, it was worth a shot…

LOGAN: How could this happen, Roman?

ROMAN: Well, it’s a little long to explain.

THOMAS: Go ahead. We have plenty of time right now.

ROMAN: I don’t have so much time, but I can spend a few minutes, I guess… Okay, then it’s flashback time. I’ll show you what happened.

[a flashback begins. Roman is in the royal castle, talking to his brother, the Prince Guy]

ROMAN: [sighs] These days back in this castle are bringing me so many memories, brother. Most of them so good.

PRINCE GUY: Me too. You know, Roman, you could stay here forever, and reclaim your throne. And we could be like the brothers we used to be, as if no time had passed.

ROMAN: I couldn’t. I mean, I’d be happy to rule this country, and living with you again as a family would be a blast, but…

PRINCE GUY: …you miss Virgil, right?

ROMAN: No matter how much happy you could make me, and how much love you could give me… my life would be empty without Virgil.

PRINCE GUY: It’s so beautiful how you two love each other so deeply…

ROMAN: He’s the one, you know? We complement each other, like two pieces of a puzzle that forms a perfect entity capable of doing anything. We could not fit in with anyone else, you know? We’re a perfect match just for each other. And it’s funny how it took us so long to realize. But when we did, everything was so obvious that the idea of not living our life together suddenly became nonsensical. We’re meant for each other and must be together or we won’t have access to happiness, you know? Gosh, I must sound so corny…

PRINCE GUY: No, Roman, you don’t. You are just a hopeless romantic. You can’t help it. It has always been a part of you. And that’s a virtue, not a flaw, because true love, the true unconditional love, could never be a flaw, could it?

ROMAN: Gosh, how I wish he was here right now. Do you know how hard it is for me to repress the impulse of running away from this castle, going back into the Mind Palace and jumping in his arms?

PRINCE GUY: I don’t need to tell you that you cannot do that, right? For Virgil’s safety.

ROMAN: Yes. I know. When I restored Sandersia, I used a lot of energy, and that energy is still emanating from me in great amounts. And as it is Dark Energy, it would destroy Virgil almost on sight, like it almost happened the last time. Not only him, all my friends would be endangered too.

PRINCE GUY: There’s one thing I don’t understand. You are a Dark Side now, right? Didn’t all the Dark Sides have physical animal motifs? Virgil was a panther, Deceit was a snake, and Ira was a bear. Shouldn’t you have developed some animal shape too?

ROMAN: [sighs] You mean something like this?

[Then, Roman shape-shifts. A half of his face looks now like a majestic red fox]

PRINCE GUY: [startled at the sudden change] Oh! Wow… When… when did that happen?

ROMAN: The morning after the incident, I woke up like this. I’ve been shape-shifting ever since, hiding this from sight.

PRINCE GUY: Why?

ROMAN: Isn’t it obvious? Look at me! I’m a monster!

PRINCE GUY: As Logan would say, falsehood! Did Virgil look like a monster to you when he was half a panther?

ROMAN: No… but he looked gorgeous in that shape. All of them, even Deceit with his scales, they all looked gorgeous in their feral forms, unlike me.

PRINCE GUY: You do look gorgeous too, Roman! And I don’t wanna hear you again saying you’re a monster, cause that’s not true. It’s the inside what makes us monsters or not, and you are still the same regal hero inside, the same wonderful prince I look up to and aspire to be like. Who cares how you look on the outside? Heck, hearing you say that, one would think you have never watched Beauty and the Beast. What kind of Disney fanboy are you, Roman? Dishonor on you, dishonor on your cow!

ROMAN: [mischievous smile] Hey, do not question my Disney knowledge, you brat! Or I’ll tickle you!

PRINCE GUY: [same mischievous smile] Not if I tickle you first!

[the two brothers start tickling each other in the middle of lots of laughter and giggling, until they end up hugging each other]

ROMAN: I love you, brother. These days would have been so hard if I didn’t have you here. Thank you for being there for me always.

PRINCE GUY: I love you too, and I’ll always be there for you, Roman. You know it. And don’t hide yourself again. Be proud of who you are and how you are, always. We’re gonna love you always, regardless of your appearance. Look on the bright side. Now at last, you can say you are… foxy.

ROMAN: What do you mean “at last”? I have always been foxy. Only that now I am literally.

PRINCE GUY: [giggles] Of course you are. Okay, now I gotta go. I’ve got an audience in five minutes. This principality is not gonna get ruled all on its own, you know?

ROMAN: Okay, bro.

PRINCE GUY: Wanna join me? You’re the royal prince, after all and maybe this could distract you and make you think about something else.

ROMAN: Nah, my head is too absent right now, I would be totally useless. I trust this is in you, as always.

PRINCE GUY: I’ll do my best, Roman, but will you be okay in the mean time?

ROMAN: Yes, don’t worry, I’ll go for a walk around the castle while you’re working. Some fresh air will do me good.

PRINCE GUY: Yes, it will… Okay, see ya in a couple of hours, if I’m still alive, of course.

ROMAN: [giggles] You dork… See ya.

[the Prince Guy heads his way to the throne room, while Roman gets out of the castle and starts walking. After some time, he finds himself in a forest, next to a little pond. He sits down in a white rock next to the pond and looks at the water. A red fish and a purple fish are swimming there twirling in circles, doing little jumps]

ROMAN: [talking to himself] Were these fishes always there, or did I create them unconsciously? [sighs] If only making you appear here was as easy as making these fishes appear here… I miss you so much, Virgil. I’d do anything to be back with you.

VOICE: [behind him] Anything?

ROMAN: [startled] What the…!?

[Roman looks at where the voice came from, and he sees an old man with a black cloak, his face is hidden behind the hood]

OLD MAN: I’m sorry I scared you, young man. It was far from my intention.

ROMAN: You didn’t scare me, you just surprised me, that’s all.

OLD MAN: Of course, young man.

ROMAN: May I ask who are you?

OLD MAN: Oh, just an inhabitant from this forest. I was going for a walk, just as I do every morning. It really is a beautiful day, isn’t it?

ROMAN: Yes, it is…

OLD MAN: But it’s raining… raining in your heart. Am I right?

ROMAN: Sort of…

OLD MAN: Perhaps I could do something to help you, you know?

ROMAN: Oh… No offense, I wish you were right, but… no one can help me on this one.

OLD MAN: Oh, I think I could help you, your majesty.

ROMAN: How do you…?

OLD MAN: The shields on your shoulders are quite revealing, your majesty.

ROMAN: Oh, you’re right. I forgot.

OLD MAN: And I really think I can help you, Prince Roman. You only need a little magic, and you could be rid of all the Dark Energy that floods your whole being. And you could be a Light Side again. Isn’t that what you want?

ROMAN: Okay, how do you know so much about my problem?

OLD MAN: Oh, your majesty, everyone in the principality knows what happened to you. Word has spread everywhere, you know?

ROMAN: Really? And how could you help me?

OLD MAN: Well, first I must say that doing the change is easy, but keeping the change permanently is a taller order.

ROMAN: How?

OLD MAN: I could make a little spell that would turn you into a Light Side, but only for six hours. That’s all I can do with the ingredients I can fetch in Sandersia.

ROMAN: Six hours only? They would fly as if they were six seconds. That doesn’t solve anything.

OLD MAN: However, you can help me and yourself if you do me a little favor.

ROMAN: A favor? What favor?

OLD MAN: As one of the renowned Sanders Sides, not only you can get out of Sandersia, you can also get out of the Mind Palace and manifest in the outer world.

ROMAN: Yeah, so?

OLD MAN: If you bring me a few certain items from the Mind Palace and the real world, I could cast a stronger spell, so that you’d be a Light Side permanently.

ROMAN: That sounds way better. What kind of items?

OLD MAN: I’m going to need a piece of garment from your host. His name is Thomas, right?

ROMAN: A piece of garment from Thomas? What kind?

OLD MAN: Oh, anything would work, as long as it’s made of fabric. For instance, an ordinary shirt would do the trick, but don’t bring me some stinky leather shoes cause that wouldn’t work. Understand?

ROMAN: Okay, a shirt. What else?

OLD MAN: The rest of the items, you’ll find them in the Mind Palace. From the Light Realm, I’ll need similar pieces of garments from all the rest of the Sanders Sides. The same kind of the host’s garment. If you choose a shirt, bring shirts from all the others.

ROMAN: Shirts? What do you plan to do with them, opening a yard sale in the forest?

OLD MAN: Please, your majesty, listen carefully, cause this one is the most important. Next, you must enter the Dark Realm.

ROMAN: The Dark Realm? But the Dark Realm is empty now. There are no more Dark Sides. Other than me, that is.

OLD MAN: I’m afraid you’re wrong. There is another Dark Side. One that became Dark because he was repressed… by you.

ROMAN: You mean that… my brother Remus is a Dark Side?

OLD MAN: That’s right.

ROMAN: So that’s why he appears and disappears like that, with those dramatic jumps… so that we don’t see him popping up when he appears… even though he gave himself away when he appeared to tempt me into fuse with him. Why didn’t I realize then? Oh, well, I was so unnerved by his appearance I couldn’t notice anything, could I?

OLD MAN: Are you finished talking to yourself? Cause I haven’t finished speaking, you know?

ROMAN: Oh, sorry. Go ahead, please.

OLD MAN: As I was saying, Remus is a Dark Side, and like any other Dark Side, he has a room in the Dark Realm.

ROMAN: I never saw it, and none of the former Dark Sides mentioned their existence.

OLD MAN: However, it is there, and you must go there. Cause there’s an important thing you must retrieve, the most important of all the ingredients. A black cauldron.

ROMAN: A black cauldron? Why would Remus have a cauldron in his room?

OLD MAN: That’s not important, but you must retrieve that cauldron. With that, and your friends garments, I can cast the spell that would turn you into a Light Side permanently. That is what you want, right?

ROMAN: Okay, now the fine print. What is the catch?

OLD MAN: Catch?

ROMAN: I’m sure you’re not doing this for altruism or because you would be a monarchical person. I’ve seen enough Disney movies to know that a black cloaked individual appearing out of nowhere in the middle of the forest is usually not trustworthy. What do you get from this?

OLD MAN: Okay, you got me there. I do get something from it. If you bring me all these items from the Mind Palace and the real world, I could cast a spell on myself that would let me be free to get in and out of Sandersia as easily as you do.

ROMAN: Why would you want to do that?

OLD MAN: Because I want to see the world. The real world outside of this bubble made up of figments from Thomas’ imagination. I truly wanna be part of that world.

ROMAN: Okay, am I suddenly a real gay Disney prince, or something? Because it’s too many references to Disney movies up to this point.

OLD MAN: Just bring me these items, Roman. If you do, you’ll get your dream come true, and I’ll also get my dream come true. Have we got a deal?

ROMAN: I don’t know…

OLD MAN: Think of Virgil. Think of how happy he will be to see you again. Think of all the years of happiness ahead of you two together.

ROMAN: Okay. I will do as you want. But there’s one condition.

OLD MAN: One condition? What is it?

ROMAN: I’m gonna trust in you, but I need you to solemnly swear that you won’t try to do anything harmful against my friends or anyone in Sandersia.

OLD MAN: Your majesty, that’s offensive, you know I would never…

ROMAN: I know nothing, and that’s the point. You come out of nowhere and expect me to trust you unconditionally? I’m not jumping blindly into this without some security guarantees. You mentioned earlier “part of that world”. Let’s use that as an inspiration. I’m the creator of Sandersia and therefore I have power in here, so… [Roman invokes a shining scroll and gives it to the old man] There. I want you to write all the stipulations in our pact in this scroll. It is magic. Once it is signed by both of us, none of us will be able to break these stipulations, and if one of us does, everything will automatically turn as it was before signing the contract, that is, you’ll lose all these objects and any magic benefit obtained from them, and I’ll turn back into a Dark Side. Is that okay with you?

OLD MAN: Okay… I know what you’re talking about. As you’ve noticed, I’ve also watched The Little Mermaid. All right Ariel, I mean Roman.

ROMAN: Yes, Ursula? I mean, um…

OLD MAN: Madilim. My name is Madilim na Haku.

ROMAN: Wow… that’s a weird name.

MADILIM: It’s of islander origin. As I was saying…

[Madilim makes a gesture with his hand and text appears magically on the scroll]

MADILIM: Here’s the contract you asked for. You can read all the stipulations and sign if you agree. I have signed it already.

[Roman picks up the scroll and reads it]

ROMAN: Okay, it reads that you will turn me into a Light Side and I have six hours to get one piece of garment from Thomas and each of the Light Sides, as well as the black cauldron from Remus’ room. If I bring them to you before the sixth hour is over, you’ll turn me into a Light Side permanently. In exchange, you will keep all the garments and cauldron to cast a spell onto yourself to be free to travel out of Sandersia and out into the real world, and you take the compromise of, and I quote verbatim, “not actively doing any harm of any kind to Thomas or any of my friends or their relatives. Should any of us break this pact, each and any spells cast onto any of us related to this contract would be immediately broken and everything would turn as it was before. For all eternity, signed...”

MADILIM: Is it everything to your liking now?

ROMAN: Yes, I think so. I don’t see any tricks or shortcuts anywhere.

MADILIM: You have such a keen eye, your majesty. Then here, you can sign with this pen.

[Madilim gives Roman a pen, and Roman, after quickly re-reading all of the contract, signs it. Then the contract magically multiplies by two. One copy stays in Roman’s hand, the other flies to Madilim’s hands. He saves it under his cloak]

MADILIM: You can keep the pen. Very well. Let’s get to work, then. Stand up and stay still.

[Roman stands up while Madilim stands in front of him. Madilim rises his hands and a dark mist comes from them, then he points at Roman with both hands and the mist flies to Roman, who starts floating]

ROMAN: Whoa…

[While he’s floating, the dark mist slowly turns into a bright white aura, and Roman’s face starts transforming until it’s full human. Then he softly lands and the aura disappears]

MADILIM: All right, your majesty. It’s done.

ROMAN: Is it?

[Roman looks at his reflection in the pond and checks his face is now full human]

ROMAN: [happy] It really is! Thank you so much, Madilim! How can I repay you?

[Madilim has disappeared, but Roman hears his voice]

MADILIM: You already know, Prince Roman. Now it’s your time to do your part of the pact. Bring me the items I asked from you. Your six hours have started counting. I’ll be waiting for you here.

ROMAN: I will, I certainly will. See ya in six hours!

[the flashback ends]

ROMAN: And so, I came back here.

LOGAN: This is all too weird, don’t you think?

DECEIT: Yeah, who is this mysterious Madilim, and how does he have power over Light and Dark? Do you really trust him, Roman?

ROMAN: I mean, he kept his word. I’m a Light Side now, and if I give him one garment from each one of you, the spell will be permanent. It’s signed. [pulls out the contract] You can see it here.

[Logan picks up the scroll and starts reading it]

VIRGIL: I am more than ready to give you my finest shirt, if it helps to bring you back for good. But I don’t trust him. Will he keep his promise?

ROMAN: [while Logan gives Roman the scroll back] Guys, I can’t believe you’re asking me this. We signed a magic contract!

THOMAS: We just want you to be careful, that’s all. Besides, being able to explore the human world at will, it’s a dangerous power. Are you sure he’s not going to use it against us?

ROMAN: Again, we signed a contract. I read it carefully. “not actively doing any harm of any kind to Thomas or any of my friends or their relatives”, that’s what we signed. Please, guys, don’t hesitate now. With all the time I’ve lost to tell you the story, I only have three hours left.

THOMAS: Okay, okay. If you’re so sure, okay. So, you need one of my shirts, let me see… Hold on a second, okay? I’ll go check my wardrobe upstairs.

[Thomas goes upstairs, while Virgil goes next to Roman]

VIRGIL: With the surprise, and then you telling the story, I had forgotten to do this.

[Virgil kisses and hugs Roman]

VIRGIL: I have missed you so much. You don’t get an idea.

ROMAN: Yes, I do, because I’ve missed you even more. I thought I would never have you in my arms like this again. I don’t even want to let go…

VIRGIL: If that Madilim keeps his word, we hopefully won’t be separated again.

[Thomas goes down the stairs. He’s carrying an old shirt]

THOMAS: Here, Roman. Will this do?

ROMAN: Yes. It is perfect. Thank you, Thomas.

[the other Sides invoke some shirts too and give them to Roman. He invokes a bag and puts them all in]

ROMAN: These are all great, thanks guys. Now all that remains is getting that cauldron.

VIRGIL: Okay, but I’m going with you. I know the Dark Realm.

ROMAN: Yet, you didn’t know of that room of Remus’, did you?

VIRGIL: Well, I left the Dark Realm before you split from Remus, so I never had the chance to see that room.

DECEIT: I stayed in the Dark Realm longer, and I never saw it with my eyes neither knew of its existence. Are you sure that wizard of yours has his facts straight?

ROMAN: I think so. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have asked for it. He has a lot to gain from our pact too. We’ll have to look for that room, then.

THOMAS: We’re all going with you, though. We’re doing this together from this point on. You have been away from us for too much time now, Roman. We also want to spend some quality time with you too. And twelve eyes see better than two or four, don’t you think?

ROMAN: Thank you, Thomas. I have missed all of you too, for the record.

[a green sprite appears in the living room, and starts flying around Roman]

ROMAN: Oh, Ira? Is that you? What is it? I can conjure a temporary body for you, but since you’re out of Sandersia, it will last only for a few moments, so speak quickly.

[Roman points at the sprite and it transforms into Ira]

IRA: So, here you are! Your brother and I were so worried about you! You just disappeared from Sandersia!

ROMAN: Oh, I’m sorry, I forgot to warn my brother, but time was short and I… [suddenly thinking, as if he got a sudden idea] Say… Ira, you were a Dark Side before. Have you ever heard of Remus’ room in the Dark Realm? We need to find it soon.

IRA: No… I didn’t even know that Remus was a Dark Side… Wait… weren’t sprites allergic to Dark Sides? How could I bite Remus and remain intact if he was a Dark Side?

ROMAN: Yes, sprites usually are allergic to Dark Sides, but Remus is not an ordinary Side, anyway. He’s part of me and it’s me who repressed him, not Thomas, so perhaps he’s different to the other Dark Sides, somehow. Anyway… so you don’t know anything about Remus’ room? Dang it. How are we gonna find it?

IRA: I had never heard about that room, but if it exists, I could help you find it.

ROMAN: Really? How?

IRA: I’m a green sprite. I’m designed to detect traces of green energy anywhere, so that I can find a green Side, like Remus, and bite him. Hunting resources if you will. That’s how I found the island the first time I came there. The room must contain remnants of green energy if it belongs to Remus. Following those remnants, I could lead you there.

ROMAN: Really? Oh, Ira, you’re a life saver! If you help me find that room I could become a Light Side permanently.

IRA: Really? But… you’ve turned back into a Light Side? But… how? I don’t understand…

ROMAN: There’s no time to explain it all again, Ira. Just take us to that room, and I will tell you when everything’s over, okay?

IRA: Okay. But you must also tell your brother. He’s really worried about you.

ROMAN: I’ll take care of that pronto. [rises his finger for a second then lowers it down] Done.

IRA: Done… what?

ROMAN: I created an emissary on Sandersia who will bring my brother up to date on what’s going on.

THOMAS: You can create characters even outside of Sandersia?

ROMAN: Of course I can, Thomas. Most of my characters, I have created them while I was out of Sandersia. Now, are you ready, Ira?

IRA: Yes, I…

[suddenly, Ira’s body disappears and he’s again a green sprite]

ROMAN: Oh, sorry, Ira, your time is up. Lead the way, okay?

[Ira emits a sound of jingle bells]

ROMAN: I’ll take that as a yes. Let’s go.

[all of the Sides and Thomas sink down. Then they appear in the Dark Realm. There’s nothing on sight, everything’s pitch black except Thomas and the Sides]

THOMAS: It’s all so quiet in here, now that this place is unoccupied.

DECEIT: Yeah. It’s depressing in a way. I wasn’t happy here, by any means, but still… this used to be my home. I know it’s contradictory but… it hurts me now seeing it so… dead.

THOMAS: Nah, I understand you. When it was the only thing you knew for so many years, you clung to it, even if it wasn’t the safest space for you.

LOGAN: And when we indulge on the memories of the past, sometimes we put a mental filter in the bad parts and magnify the good parts, so that’s why you may be feeling like that, Deceit.

DECEIT: Maybe… However, the bad moments that I lived here… I don’t think I’ll ever be able to remove them from my mind, not completely.

[Ira emits some jingle bells sounds]

ROMAN: I think he’s telling us to follow him. Maybe he’s got a trace.

[The gang start following Ira through the Dark Realm. After a while, they reach a weird wall made of perfect square gray ashlars. Ira tries to go through the wall, but bounces on it and can’t cross it]

ROMAN: What is this wall doing here, in the middle of nowhere?

DECEIT: I think I never wandered to this part of the Dark Realm. This is on an area that was strictly forbidden to us by the Dark Master. And he knew how to make us obey, you know?

ROMAN: Wait a second… these ashlars… they look familiar… they’re just like the ashlars from my Dream Factory! Remember?

THOMAS: Yes, I do remember. Didn’t you say that those ashlars were made from the material that separated my notion of fantasy from my notion of reality?

ROMAN: Exactly. For one reason or another, Remus’ room is completely isolated from the rest of the Dark Realm.

THOMAS: How are we going to get in? I don’t see any doors in this wall.

ROMAN: Do not fear, your creativity is here. I can make us all go through these walls as if they were made of air. Are you ready? [not letting them answer] Let’s go!

[Thomas and the Sides suddenly cross through the wall at great speed, and appear on the other Side. There, they see Remus’ room. It is almost the same as Roman’s room, except that it is covered with dust and it lacks the forest of thorns, and instead of a throne, there is a torture chair]

VIRGIL: Wow… I’m not sitting there, not even if you payed me double, Thomas… which would still be zero, by the way.

ROMAN: Where may that cauldron be? Oh, well, the first place we should be looking in would logically be the kitchen, but Remus has never made any sense, so…

[Roman starts searching in the kitchen. Meanwhile, Patton approaches the front door]

PATTON: What may be there, behind this door?

LOGAN: Probably just the Dark Realm, Patton.

PATTON: Yeah, but the wall outside did not have any doors, Logan. So how could this door be here? Now I’m too curious, I have to check out.

[Patton opens the door and sneaks outside]

PATTON: [yelling] Guys! Look at this!

[all the Sides, except Roman who keeps searching the kitchen, go to the front door]

THOMAS: Oh, wow…

VIRGIL: Isn’t this…?

DECEIT: … Remus’ throne room in the castle from the island?

ROMAN: [leaving everything and going to the door] What? Oh, wow… so Remus’ room is also connected to Sandersia… Well, I should have seen that coming. He’s creativity too, of course his room had to be connected to Sandersia too. Guys, I need to you to help me find that cauldron. My time is running out. I don’t wanna be a Dark Side again.

THOMAS: You’re right, Roman, we’ll help you.

[everyone starts searching the whole room. It’s Virgil who has luck, when he looks behind the torture chair]

VIRGIL: Roman, look! I think I found it!

ROMAN: Really?

[Roman goes to check out. Virgil pulls out a little black cauldron from behind the chair]

ROMAN: Wow… I thought it would be bigger, but it is a black cauldron, so I think this is it. [giggles out of excitement and joy] Virgil, you’re so great! I could kiss you! What the heck, I’m gonna kiss you right now!

[Roman gives a quick kiss to Virgil, then starts bopping with joy, while Virgil smiles, rejoicing in Roman’s happiness.]

VIRGIL: Okay, Roman. How much time do you have left?

ROMAN: Oh, we’ve got plenty of time. We’ve got one hour left.

VIRGIL: You call that plenty of time? We still have to get back to that forest before time is over! Come on.

ROMAN: You’re right. Let’s go through Remus’ door. I’ll invoke a ship to take us there.

[The gang goes through Remus’ door into the castle. As soon as Ira crosses the door, he regains his Sandersian body. Then, they go to the island shore. Roman invokes a ship and they use it to sail to the shore]

IRA: I’ll go talk to the Prince Guy. I won’t be at ease until I talk to him face to face about what’s happened. You go ahead, okay?

ROMAN: Okay, Ira. Thank you so much for your help. We wouldn’t have made it without you.

IRA: You’re welcome. Be careful, though.

[Roman and the others go to the forest. Soon they get to the pond where Roman found Madilim]

THOMAS: Nobody’s here. What time is it?

ROMAN: Ten minutes left. I hope it’s not him who arrives late now, after all we’ve been through.

[Madilim appears]

ROMAN: Oh, there you are Madilim.

MADILIM: Greetings, Roman. And good evening to the rest.

THOMAS: Good evening, sir.

MADILIM: So… did you bring what I asked for?

ROMAN: Yes, everything’s here.

[Roman gives Madilim the bag]

MADILIM: [examining the bag’s content with joy] Yes… this will do. Well done, your majesty!

ROMAN: Okay, I did my part of the pact. Now it’s your turn.

MADILIM: Certainly. Just let me prepare the ingredients for the spell…

[Madilim puts the garments inside the cauldron and starts reciting a spell in a strange language with a sing-song voice]

PATTON: Am I the only one who’s finding this kinda creepy?

LOGAN: No, you’re not. Something’s not right here…

[after a while, a light comes out of the cauldron, a light that changes color in a pattern of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo and purple. Then, a beam comes out of the cauldron and impacts on Madilim, who starts laughing with an evil voice]

MADILIM: Yes! At last! I’m free!

ROMAN: … free?

THOMAS: I don’t feel so good…

PATTON: Thomas? Are you okay?

THOMAS: No… I’m feeling suddenly weak… as if I suddenly had got the flu…

ROMAN: What’s going on? What have you done to him?

MADILIM: I did nothing, Roman. But I must thank you again. Your everlasting gullibility has been quite useful again!

ROMAN: My… what? Who are you?

MADILIM: I told you from the very beginning. I’m Madilim na Haku, a name of islander origin. With islander, I meant from Philippines and Hawaii. Too bad that you don’t know a word of their languages. Too bad for you that is, that helped me retain that mask in front of you, as I just told you my real name in these two languages. Let’s take the mask off, by the way, this cloak is too hot for this time of the year…

[Madilim shape-shifts into his real form. Roman gasps in a mix of horror and anger]

ROMAN: The Dark Master! Again? You’re so stubborn, aren’t you?

DARK MASTER: Yes, I’m stubborn, but my stubbornness is giving fruit at last. Now I’m free and there’s nothing you can do about it!

ROMAN: However, we had a pact, signed in a magic scroll. You are forced to oblige! What have you done to Thomas? The pact said you couldn’t harm him

DARK MASTER: Read the stipulation again. It said “actively harm him”. Emphasis on the “actively”. And I haven’t touched him at all.

ROMAN: You trickster! You son of a b…!

DARK MASTER: Language, Roman! Don’t forget your upbringing! But you are right on one thing. I must oblige with my part of the pact. So…

[The Dark Master points at Roman and a white beam comes out of his finger. It impacts on Roman’s chest who groans in pain]

VIRGIL: [scared] Roman!

DARK MASTER: Relax, ex-catboy. I’m just doing what I promised to do.

[the beam disappears]

VIRGIL: Roman, are you okay?

ROMAN: I… I think so. What have you done to me?

DARK MASTER: Just what I promised. You are now a Light Side permanently. My part of the pact is done. It’s not gonna be of use to you, anyway…

ROMAN: What? What do you mean?

DARK MASTER: Be careful with what you wish for. Your wish was to get rid of me. And now you will. I’m leaving this Mind Palace to live in the real world. Too bad that a host without one of his two Masters… cannot survive.

ROMAN: [distressed] Oh, no! Thomas!

DARK MASTER: By the way, the ingredients and cauldron were just to set me free. I am a Master. Turning Dark into Light is child’s play for me. I could have turned you into a Light Side permanently all the time. So long, guys! I’m gonna enjoy my freedom!

[The Dark Master flies away, carrying the bag with the cauldron with him]

ROMAN: Wait! Come back!

[Thomas suddenly loses balance and has to be grabbed by Logan and Patton]

THOMAS: I’m… I’m feeling so cold…

PATTON: [putting his hand on Thomas’ forefront] My God, you’re burning! You have high fever!

ROMAN: [approaching Thomas] I’m sorry, Thomas. This is my fault.

THOMAS: [weak voice] It’s… okay… But, guys, please… take me home…

[Thomas faints]

ROMAN: [horrified] Thomas? Thomas!? Oh, no, what have I done!? Thomas!!

[a sign reads “To be continued, guys, gals and non binary pals”]

The moral of :re episode 21 is that Hide is The Absolute Best, and I refuse to hear any objections to that fact :)

Seriously though, this episode was really nice, and actually fixed some of the issues I had with this part of the manga.

The rest of my thoughts will be under the cut [including spoilers for the whole manga]

I already figured that I’d like the Dragon arc a lot in the anime, since I already more or less liked it in the manga [at least conceptually], but even then, this episode still kinda surpassed my expectations in certain ways. At least in terms of writing. The art was sorta iffy at times, but I can’t really hold that against them too much. The background art was consistently great as usual, though.

Anyway, to begin with, I liked how they handled the first scene, with Dragon continuing to emerge. I like how they kept the framing of some of it being televised by news reporters and stuff. And as I expected, not much time needed to be spent on it.

We also got to see the culmination of how the anime has replaced the plot-line of Ui getting manipulated by Furuta with more focus on Mutsuki and him getting steered down this path by Furuta, and I really love that writing choice. It helps tie everything together surprisingly well. I always kinda disliked how everything about Kaneki killing the Oggai and becoming Dragon felt like such a string of perfect coincidences and contrivances, but I actually really like the explanation of ‘Furuta intentionally put Mutsuki in charge of the Oggai so that he’d inevitably lead them to Kaneki’. It doesn’t actually change anything about how things played out, but it gives a way more clear and understandable explanation for why things ended up the way they did, and it makes Furuta’s plan seem less obnoxiously perfect. And I think they did a good enough job of setting up the fact that Furuta would know about how Mutsuki feels towards Kaneki, since we saw him visiting him in the hospital earlier in the season.

Overall it’s just a way more interesting and effective version of the ultimately weird and pointless sub-plot between Furuta and Ui that the manga had. It’s also worth noting that this also recontextualizes Mutsuki’s feelings in this episode slightly, by having him be forced to realize that he was at least partially responsible for everything that just happened, because he’s the one that lead the Oggai to Kaneki. It helps set up the emotional stakes of this episode a lot, and it continues the anime’s trend of portraying Mutsuki as a victim of a corrupt system, which is nice. I’ll talk about the scene with him and the Qs later in the post, but there’s other things to talk about first.

Such as Hide! We finally get to properly see him in the anime, and let’s just say that my thoughts during his scenes mostly consisted of ‘my SON. my fucking SUNSHINE CHILD!’. It was pretty great, lol. There’s not actually much to say about his scenes, other than that I’m happy they kept the scene about his feelings for Kaneki. I don’t really mind how the subs translated it since that was just their decision alone, and I could tell that the actual Japanese line was unchanged, so there’s no big deal, although I have a feeling that it’s still gonna incite some gross neckbeards to be like ‘the subs said ‘like’ not ‘love’ so obviously it’s just BRO LOVE hurr duurrr’.

I do wanna point out that I really like the way the anime is handling how his voice sounds, since he’s using an electronic assistive device to talk now. It’s nothing particularly noteworthy, but I think they handled it nicely. He actually sounded a fair bit less creepy and robotic than what I thought he might sound in the anime, lol.

His entire presence in the story is definitely just inherently weird, but let’s not ignore the fact that his reappearance was just as sudden and unexplained in the manga. If anything, it was MORE jarring in the manga, since in that version of that story we already had the whole flashback to him asking Kaneki to eat him, which made his death seem a lot more definitive. And just to be blunt, even after he came back into the story in the manga, Ishida never actually did anything to explain how he survived getting part of his face eaten, how he managed to go into hiding, how he managed to find out about Rushima and rescue Amon from there, how he knew about the secret of the RC Gates in order to give that info to Marude, etc etc etc. There’s just this complete void of nothingness between ‘Kaneki apparently eats most of Hide’s face’ to ‘Hide pops back up in the story several years later and nobody really comments on it’. So I can’t really hold this against the anime at all. It’s not THEIR fault that Ishida never explained any of that. And honestly I’m growing more appreciative as time goes on of how the anime cut out the flashback to Hide rescuing Amon from Rushima, and how they cut the reference to him leaking classified info to Marude. It’s a slightly disappointing way to go about it, but it’s a valid choice to deal with the topic of ‘questions that never get answered’ by opting to not even raise them in the first place.

It does make me really curious to see how they handle the next episode, with Hide and Kaneki finally having their big reunion. Since they’ve kept the detail of Hide’s facial injuries, but haven’t explained how they happened. I think the two main possibilities are that either the anime will make up some separate reason for why it happened that doesn’t involve Kaneki, or they’re gonna have it be that Kaneki only remembers having eaten Hide’s face once they actually reunite. I’m leaning more toward the latter at this point, and I think I’d at least prefer them to handle it that way compared to how the manga handled that whole reveal. It’d feel more appropriately timed, and it’d probably lead to Kaneki at least expressing actual shock and remorse over it, instead of being bizarrely nonchalant about it like he was in the manga. In general I hope they flesh out their reunion scene a bit in the next episode, since it always bugged me that it was just like three goddamn pages long in the manga.

I still don’t like how the story in general handles Kanou as a character, but again that’s more Ishida’s fault than anything else, and I kinda like how the anime changed the timing of it slightly so that Marude’s group only think to try and find him right when they find out that he killed himself. It shortens the scene a fair bit, and it makes it feel less ‘hyped up’, if that makes sense, which makes Kanou’s suicide feel at least somewhat less anticlimactic. It’s still a lame way for his character to go out, though. At least the anime kept the details of how he cares mostly about furthering medical science in relation to studying ghouls, and how he knew that Furuta was planning for this to happen, and that it will lead to humanity being pretty much forced to further medical science to deal with Dragon. It’s still overall a clumsy plot point, but it gets the point across well enough. It’s at least a bit more subtle about the point of Furuta creating Dragon in order to ultimately benefit mankind than how Ishida just had Furuta lay out basically all of his plans to Kaneki right at the start of the Goat arc, lol.

It’s also worth noting that, along the same lines, I’ve always been really disappointed by Kurona as a character in :re, since she just loses any real purpose and only exists to be focused on an even more clumsily handled character, but overall my biggest issue with everything to do with Kanou is how it feels like such a missed opportunity that the topic of his involvement in Kaneki’s surgery doesn’t really become relevant. Specifically what I mean is that the two of them only ever have one face to face confrontation in the entire series, and that was way back before :re happened at all. It just feels like there was so much room to explore that conflict. I understand why it ultimately ended up being unimportant compared to all of the bigger issues at hand, but still.

I still have somewhat complicated feelings about the entire topic of how humans and ghouls end up more or less joining forces against Dragon, but at the very least it feels like the only real way that the story was ever going to achieve anything close to actual peace between them.

Anyway, onto the whole scene at the end with Mutsuki fighting Saiko and Urie, I really liked how that scene was handled. At least compared to how it was done in the manga. It was much shorter, for one thing, which I appreciated. Cutting out Aura and the other second gen Qs helped it go by a lot faster, and it also made it feel more personal in scale. They don’t really bother spelling out why Mutsuki is lashing out at the Qs, but at this point in the story I think everyone watching it knows that fucking EVERYONE just winds up expressing their feelings through punching and stabbing when they’d really be better off just talking to each other, so I at least don’t think this scene stands out as being any more glaringly weird than most other random fight scenes in the series. It is worth pointing out, though, that with the anime original stuff at the start of the episode I mentioned earlier, it’s very easy to piece together the fact that Mutsuki is blaming himself for this entire thing, and so he’s just lashing out because he doesn’t know how to handle his self-hatred, and he has a lot of complicated feelings about the fact that everyone is trying to save Kaneki.

Even if it kinda muddies his motives a bit, I honestly quite like how they completely cut out the whole obnoxious ‘if I can’t have him then nobody can!’ way that Ishida tried to spin this whole part of the manga. At least this version of events doesn’t make me roll my eyes in exasperation. I’ve said it before, but I do really appreciate how they’ve cut out like 99% of how the manga tried to frame him as some kind of generic psycho yandere character. It works a lot better that in the anime, this whole scene was almost purely focused on Mutsuki just lashing out at his friends because he’s dealing with way too many emotions and he doesn’t know how to handle it. [fake edit: before I forget, they also cut out the part where he attacks Touka while she’s searching for Kaneki, which is a nice change. That whole bit was just super unnecessary and obnoxious in the manga]

His aborted suicide attempt also felt a fair bit less jarring than it did in the manga, since the anime did a better job at showing exactly how much self-hatred Mutsuki feels.

I don’t really wanna bother touching too much on the references to Mutsuki’s sex here, but at the very least, if the anime really wants to convince me that he’s a cis girl, this is at least a much less overtly offensive and off-putting way of going about it. It’s not gonna change my stance on things, though. But I still gotta give the anime props for at least handling everything about Mutsuki with infinitely more respect than Ishida did.

Also, I actually just double-checked my imported copy of volume 15 to make sure I wasn’t forgetting something, and I can confirm that the references to Shirazu at the end of the episode were actually anime-original. I can also confirm that they fucking tore my heart to shreds :) It almost makes me wonder why Ishida didn’t think to bring Shirazu up like that in the scene originally. It’s such a perfect way of really hammering in the emotions. It also does a really nice job of further tying up Urie’s character development, and showing how much respect he feels for Shirazu.

As I expected, it looks like the next episode will cover volume 15. Or rather, the rest of volume 15, since this episode actually ended about two chapters into volume 15, after having gone through all of volume 14. Again, the whole confrontation with the Qs took WAY less time in the anime, and I’m grateful for that. So I think the next episode should be able to easily adapt the rest of volume 15, and presumably end with Kaneki and Hide’s big reunion scene. Hopefully this will give them time to flesh that scene out a bit.

Since we’re already partway into the second to last volume with three episodes to go, I think the rest of the season will be paced really well, so that’s nice.

All in all, this was a pretty fantastic episode. It’s still hard to avoid some of the really fundamental issues the manga had, but the anime’s honestly doing a GREAT job of patching things up and actually making it all feel cohesive and reasonable, while also removing the more offensive and shitty parts. I’ve been thinking of the :re anime as a sort of second draft of the manga’s story since it started, and episodes like this really cement why I feel that way.

-It was universally known that friend with benefit between best friends would be a chaotic ride from the start till the heartbreak of either one or both party. No one says anything about being in one with your dear professor…

-Rated M for language, mention of sex (secretly rated B for bullshit 😏)

-a/n: I AM SO SORRY FOR HOW SHORT THIS PART IS... and how long it took to get written. Life is rough as always and I lost all my writing mojo so i took a step back and just let myself enjoy the excitement of anticipating their comeback.

This part and the one after will just be story filler/ fluff to really build up to the climax of the series. I hope you guys won’t mind the story slowing down a bit before I can go full throttle with what I had in mind as to where our dear professor will end up.

Which of the most basic human emotions is the strongest? That’s a question you’ve always struggled with and more often than not, disagree with the general consensus. The large sum of the population seems to think it’s fear, While others think it’s love. You could certainly see how fear can drive people to do things they could never, or would never agree to had they not been under duress. You’ve had enough first hand experience with this particularly menacing emotion today to speak on the matter. Same with love you suppose, having gone though already a more than rocky start and Hanbin haven’t even got a chance to utter that question yet.

However for you, it’s the combination of these emotions, when they so perfectly mingled and worked together to lull you into a spot so sweet, its effect is deafening. That certainly is the case right now as you watch Hanbin figure trailing further and further away from your stilled one, fear runs deep within the veins of your incapacitated body. You both had been so careless, a sense of happiness produce by your new found love had left you both negligent of the possibility that someone might still be lingering about, even as high into the sky as the man in the moon is this time of night. Happiness, love, and fear created a perfect mixture of poison that set your heart ablaze, wanting nothing more than for Hanbin to turn around and let you fall into his protective arms, to listen to his soft cooing of assurance. Yet at the same time, your mind scrambled from the thought of losing him forever if this messed up secret surface to take a breath of fresh air, body wanting to regurgitate your non existent dinner, leaving souring taste in your throat.

But beneath it all, perhaps curiosity struck an even bigger impact as you watch your man near skipping toward the stranger, his mannerism... happy? How could he be so relax at a climatic moment, the wall that had been protecting his darkest secret, protecting you were about to crumble with the tick of the clock. What has he got going in his mind?

Cold sweats are now breaking over your stiffening body, your eyes so frantically searches for any sign that he had noticed your distress, to read your mind but alas his attention too focus on the person ahead with a strange cheeky smile on his lips. Then without a warning, his arms thrown up in the air as if he’s performing a flashy mating dance, similar to those magnificent birds in those documentary you love to watch so often, awaiting the arrival of the shadow man.

“POOH”

Yet another unexpected thing happening way too fast to add in the list of things happening so fast and unexpectedly, they’re leaving your head spinning in circle.

“MICKEY!” And so the looming shadow replies. Curses this old building and its less than standard lighting, you can’t even make out the other person’s face yet something, something is so familiar it’s on the tip of your tongue.

It’s Jiwon. Crap.

Your mind silently gasp, he wouldn’t suspect anything, would he? After all, up till this point it was more likely you were fooling around with him than Hanbin going off on just public interaction alone. No way he’d suspect anything. You tell yourself yet you know deep down just how sharp the other professor Kim could be.

You must not be very convincing because as it tells itself not to worry, a monologue worthy of awards is being created simultaneously in your mind, the excuses to explain the fondness in your behaviors putting into a list. Your short barely qualify as a relationship relationship flashes before your eyes as the last chance to escape now being block by your dear professors

The two men crash into each other as if lovers reunited after a treacherous month long separation - dramatic, over the top, and down right unnecessary in the way they’re embracing each other so tight, Jiwon’s hands wandering in places that you hoped only yours had gotten the pleasure to feel. Hanbin was even worse in his touchiness, hands snaking around the other man’s waist, resting on his lower back before ruffling up his hair. Chatting away happily, the pair has completely forgotten your lingering present, that is until Jiwon peeks behind their shoulders, an eyebrow raised in intrigue. Noting his expression, Hanbin also turn toward the direction of his curiosity, a warm smile beaming bright at you, near prideful.

“Your girl?”

“Something like that.” Hanbin chuckles like a school kid, cheeks blooms like fresh roses in spring with a slight scratch to his head. His tone almost bashful, shy even as he repeats to himself softly under his breath Jiwon’s word. “My girl” a strange giggle you’ve never seen slips under the moonstruck smile.

Who is this soft man in front of you and what had he done with your sex God?! Is this the kind of boyfriend he’ll be, giving you a full range of the rainbow from the softest to making you beg for mercy under the pale moonlight? If so, you’re about to be in for the ride of your life and truthfully, you’re all for it.

“Come. On. Man. Again with the “something like that” speech. Is she your girl or nah?” His feet planting firm into the worn out floor of the ancient building that had you bracing for the destruction of the infrastructure any second now. Well, if the building isn’t collapsing anytime soon then you will because Jiwon manages to shoot your a sly wink all the while looking stern as he grills his very clingy friend.

“DO NOT wink at her, I will murder you.” The sudden thought of your lie fills Hanbin’s mind with imageries that will probably send him into a murderous feat had he not has so much trust in both his girl and his best friend. A quiet “thank you” slips his lips as Jiwon abandons his teasing way at the piercing glares, feeling the wrath of a man who has everything to lose. “I was gonna introduce her AFTER, i make things official. You jumped the gun bro. Plus it’s not like you don’t know her, she’s in your class.”

“Alright, so protective already. I’m scare to know what you’d do to those boys that always flirt with her in class.” Yet another sly raise of the brows find its way into your peripheral, and yet again Hanbin looks as if someone had just insulted all his ancestors and his future children all in the same sentence.

“No, Binnie, don’t kill me. I’m sorry, alright. I’ll leave you kids be then, I’ll go die all alone with my endless stacks of work.”

Honestly at this point you didn’t know if you have to worry about the witch or Jiwon because to any passerby, their intimacy level is that of an old married couple. The way their arms so naturally draping around each other’s bodies, the familiarity in their touches, and down right to the gentle whispering between the two. They even got the bickering down to an art... Oh lord, Jiwon is the one you really have to watch out for.

“I’ll see you around… sister-in-law!”

You stare incredulously at the disappearing Jiwon, laughing manically all the while trying to avoid Hanbin’s playful punches, not quite sure if you’re just having a strange midday dream or their bromance of a meeting really did just happened. Sauntering back your way, Hanbin couldn’t help but let a smile blooms on his lips at how adorable and befuddle you’ve become watching his interaction.

“Have I gone mad or did you and the other hot professor Kim are like bros...”

“You have not and you should only know ONE hot professor Kim, alright?” Near growling under his breath, Hanbin has his hand brushing against your waist, even if the contact lingering barely a second, you could feel the green with envy dripped fingertips.

“Yes, professor.”

Even with the desires burning deep within both your hearts to spend as much time as you could together, the sudden chatter lingering by the courtyard reminds you both of just how much is at risk. With one last smile, your dear professor begins his short trip to the confine of his office, a much happier man than this morning, heart grown just a bit larger at the thought of you cozy in his bed just a few hours from now, and many days to come.

Quite strange really to think of all the ups and downs Harbin and you have gone through, all the sadness and the pain even before the relationship really even got a chance to bloom. Out of all the nonsense and wonderfulness of it all, the only thing you haven’t managed to comprehend, to really wrap your head around is the how of it all. You’re mystify, so utterly lost at just how easily, despite all the tears and words of hurts of course, everything had fallen into place when it could have just as easily fizzles out, a romance snipped in the bud before it could bask in the bright sunlight to show off all of its vibrancy. Yet here you are, near skipping your way toward that dingy old room filled with endless stacks of paperwork, coffee in hands awaiting the end of his work hours.

Friends with benefit relationship is hard, no argument there, it rarely worked and more often than not ends up in a string of heartbreaks. But when friends and benefit get thrown into a professional world, a world where everything is grey rather than clear cut black and white. A world that require an intricate dance of not crossing the line all the while taking an axe to all other lines set up by society to differentiate what’s acceptable, that’s just something beyond any of your calculation, and Hanbin as well you suspect.

In those days when you were just a bored student, just another face in the crowded lecture hall that seemingly there only for the gorgeous face and smooth voice, did you ever think this rollercoaster of a fuck up relationship would ever work out? God no, not even in your highest highs and wildest of vivid dreams of a horny college girl lusting after her professor. The thought of him even looking your way was even preposterous because lord know he got some on the daily. You have to admit, had he been any less handsome or charming, you would’ve said fuck the 5% of your grade depending on attendant, and maybe one day you’ll admit that to Hanbin but for now to yourself is enough. You were fine with that, showing up for a few hours to watch him dance and sing his way to the betterment of the future, it’s not like you won’t concede to feeling just a tad bit more encouraged when Hanbin offers up in a few lingering stares and a sweet, coy smile or two as you waddle your way out after class.

The first time you had worked up the courage to storm into his office, it was vast different from tonight but in many ways, alike. The bleeding sunshine so gentle and silky against your skin, basting everything in a near glittery tone not even filters could get such beautiful light. You didn’t know if it was your heart was beating just a bit faster but the brilliant hues of the sky was especially stunning, the golden ray bowing out for the day leaving the stage open for roses to overtake the pristine white clouds. You circled the building, three times, as any one would of course on their way in for some one on one help with homework, it’s a big deal, facing your professor. It wasn’t until the clock ticking close to 6 that you had realized professors do not in fact live in their office, that they do have a life outside of the university. You felt stupid, barging in so last minute and watched as his handsome features faltered just a bit knowing whatever his plan was that night was out the window. So in your insane delirious mind of hunger accompanied by the worst string of insomnia, you flirted. You flirted because if he’s to be kept here by your pestering self, the very least you could offer up some pleasant banter, because that’s exactly what your catch of a professor need… His student shooting heart eyes his way to make up for taking up his free time. It’s not a good plan but a plan nonetheless.

The walk now, silvery moonlight grazing your skin with its cool wisps, nothing warming your soul aside from the warmth emanating from the scalding hot coffees and the excitement of once again retreating to the place where your heart longs for. Yet that distinct bubbling in your chest, the excitement of seeing that soul melting grin, that definitely cannot be misplace. Although the uncertainties, the hope that you were somehow more special than any other girls in his class long gone and was now replaced by just how loved you feel from his words, from his action, and simply just from the soft gazes accompany by the most adorable moonstruck smile. You want to sing to the world, to show everyone how amazing this man you get to call yours is but for now these private meeting at the most intimate hours of night will do so long as you get to be in his arms. Who know if you’ll both last through the trials of time in the future, or if there even is a future for you both but getting to see Hanbin in ways others can only wish to is definitely worth it all.

As with any high, the come down of when reality hits you in the face with its bitterness is especially hard in the form of that ear piercing, gut wrenching shriek of a laugh from the one and only. With still nearly 3 doors to pass, her shrill laughter still pierce your heart, freezing it over with that haunting menacing tone. You know nothing will happen, you trust Hanbin with your future quite literally so there’s no questioning his action yet you couldn’t help that souring volcanic of a reaction deep within your gut. With a heavy sigh, your steps deter from the small door that holds your happiness, the single person that could make you feel a million buck with just a simple utter of your name… All of that was being stain by the stench of the enemy.

Is this what jealousy feel like?

You have to see this, what the hell are they even talking about for her to be laughing so carefree. Loud grunt lost to the frigid breeze, you tiptoe toward the entrance with great care, flushing so tightly against the grossly stained wall. Boy did you blood curdle in anger at the sigh beholding, irritation drowns your body in its toxin and it pains you to physically be incapable of just dumping these cups of joe all over her goddamn inappropriate flaunting happening right on top of Hanbin’s desk. In what world did she thinks it’d be within the school code of conducts to be perching so precariously atop another professor’s desk, short skirt rising over her crossed legs so high just one more inch and you’ll be able to spot her intimates. Her back arches strategically, putting forth her most worthy assets as if Hanbin would really buys whatever she got to sell. Your lips nearly split open and her poison dipped fingertips brushes against Hanbin’s soft hand, she really crosses the line now. As much as it pains you, walking away is the only right answer and so before your heart could overpower your brain, your body slowly inches away.

[9:41] You know what I mean. God, did she thinks that was appropriate, putting her ass on a place your students use to do work? Where you do work? Your desk! My desk! GOD!

[9:41] Nerd 👓❤️: And the work we do on it isn’t, huh sweetheart?

[9:41] IRRELEVANT!!

[9:41] How is that irrelevant, my God this girl. And anyways, since when is it your desk?

[9:42] Since I claimed it. Or did you forget how many time you fucked me raw atop it, professor?

If there be someone lost for words, it’s you. Yes, she’s his co-worker and co-workers are meant to bond but she had gone well beyond trust exercises, into territories of scandalous. Well, nothing nearly as dramatic as your relationship with Hanbin of course but that’s beside the point. There’s no denying the guilt deep within your heart for Hanbin, caught in between a cry baby girlfriend and a person who does not seems to possess an ounce of IQ despite being parade as one of the best newcomer the school had seen since, well the recruitment of Hanbin and Jiwon. The two seconds you had the pleasure of passing by her during class changing was by far your least favorite experience so how could your man put up with her days after days, that piss indecent laugh and unnecessary mating dance… You’ve no words.

The beautiful dance of pleasure and pain bestowed upon your quivering body so many nights and counting, that’s not something she ever going to experience, not in her wildest dream simply because you won’t allow it. The sweetheart you get to come home to, the absolutely breathtaking, caring man that could make you smile simply by looking your way, his heart, his soul, there’s no questioning the love he has for you and just how utterly infatuated you are with him. Yet this typhoon of jealousy, the green tinge of envy lurking its ugly head, winding itself around your heart like a python ready for the kill, there’s just no helping that. Is that wrong? Would Hanbin laugh if you share this with him, or would be be offended you have such little faith in the person you claimed to love. In truth, this whole whirlwind of a romance has you so wrapped around his slender finger, mind drunk with his whole being yet in reality, you know next to nothing about this person you call your man. Who is Kim Harbin really in the pocket of space and time when your present ceases to exist. Is he a kind son to his parents, what about siblings, aside from a vague mentioning of a younger sister, he speaks of nothing else in regard to family. What kind of bar does he and friends frequent, those trendy hipster one with more type of beers than there are hair on your head. Or are they the rugged type, pool halls and smoke filled dimly lit room while sipping on neat glasses of whiskey. So is it so wrong for you to have the tiniest bit of paranoia in your heart.

The bright light shining through the frosted glass boding gold lettering “134 - Kim Jiwon” and harsh yet quite beat of hiphop spilling through the crack of the door like a slap to your consciousness as your steps screech to a halt, the near 10 minutes walk from the room that left your heart torn like a missing piece of time, lost in the whirlwind of worries and guilt for even be worrying in the first place. With the softest knock you could muster while juggling two cups of pipping hot caffeine, your lungs finally let go of their clutch on a big puff of oxygen held in from the overwhelming emotion, waiting to be exhale only to find yet another lung full frozen inside. You clear your mind as best as you could but that in itself proving to be an impossible task… Kim Jiwon no longer just an innocent face you’re forced to lie to, he’s in this now, an important player judging by Hanbin’s decision to let him in on your secret. Will he be a trustworthy ally or an opponent lying in wait, only time can tell and for now all you can do is trust Hanbin’s instinct. For now the only thing you could do is play nice and observe.

The Weekend Warrior 8/27/21 - CANDYMAN, LILY TOPPLES THE WORLD, TOGETHER, VACATION FRIENDS, NO MAN OF GOD, and More

There’s only one new wide release this week, and I’m so happy about that, that I’m gonna say the name of that movie FIVE TIMES!

Candyman

CANDYMAN (Universal)

Well, you get the idea. Jordan Peele seems to have done it again with this sequel the 1992 movie from Bernard Rose, although in this case he’s just co-writing and producing along with the film’s actual director, Nia DaCosta, who directed a small indie called Little Woods, which not that many people saw but that played at the Tribeca Film Festival a bunch of years back.

Of course, the movie is really being sold on the basis of Peele’s involvement, because he had such success with two horror movies as a director, the Oscar-winning Get Out in 2017 and Us two years later. Both of those movies grossed over $175 million domestically and another $75 to 82 million overseas. Get Out opened with just $33 million, which is fairly impressive for an R-rated horror comedy, but Us opened with over $70 million based on the popularity and success of Get Out.

Peele and DaCosta have another decent cast with Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, possibly best known for playing Black Manta in James Wan’s Aquaman, playing the lead, an artist named Anthony Mccoy, who learns about the myths of the Candyman at the Chicago projects, Cabrini-Green. He also starred in Peele’s Us right after that, and also appeared in The Greatest Showman with Hugh Jackman, another huge domestic hit. Later this year, he’ll appear (presumably as the younger Morpheus) in The Matrix Resurrections. HIs girlfriend and art curator Brianna is played by Teyonah Parris, who might be best known for her role as Monica Rambeau in the Disney+ series, WandaVision, a role she’ll reprise in next year’s The Marvels, which will reunite her with director DaCosta, as she becomes a full-fledged superhero with the film’s star, Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel. The movie also stars Colman Domingo, who had a big breakout by starring in HBO’s Euphoria, the AMC spin-off Fear the Walking Dead, and well-received movies (at least critically) like Zola and Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. That’s a pretty amazing trio right there for the movie, and they’ll help the movie get the hoped-for African-American moviegoers but also the young people who enjoy horror.

Horror has generally done okay during the pandemic, although obviously, there’s been a lot of sequels with John Krasinski and Emily Blunt’s A Quiet Place Part II doing the best of all of them. More recent sequels like Escape Room: Tournament of Champions and Don’t Breathe 2 haven’t done as well. And there’s no way around the fact that Candyman is a sequel, but it’s a sequel to a movie that came out nearly 30 years ago, which doesn’t mean that young people will have that close a connection to it.

Maybe it’s no surprise that reviews for the movie have been stellar, similar to Peele’s other two movies, although some definitely have issues with the movie. (My review of Candyman can be found over at Below the Line.)

Candyman seems good for an opening somewhere in the low-to-mid $20 millions, although the anticipation for the movie, and its strong draw within the Black community could give it a nice bump ala the movies Peele has directed. Expect the movie to do especially well on Thursday and Friday, but I think anticipation will make it fairly front-loaded as would be the case with most horror movies released in the summer. (I also expect a massive 55%+ drop next week when Marvel opens Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.)

But in the meantime, this is where I see this week’s top 10.

A great film I saw at SXSW earlier this year that’s finally coming out and is therefore, this week’s “THE CHOSEN ONE” is the doc LILY TOPPLES THE WORLD (Discovery+) from director Jeremy Workman, which follows the amazing life of 20-year-old domino artist and YouTube sensation Lily Hevesh, who has built up a following due to her amazing domino constructions.

The movie works as a documentary on so many levels, first in terms of relaying Lily’s history as a Chinese orphan adopted at the age of one by non-Asian parents and how that affected her life and her interest in discovery, which ultimately led her to this passion. But building and toppling domino art is much more than a hobby as Ms. Hevesh has been able to monetize her passion with a thriving YouTube channel and also being hired by big corporations to create domino art for commercials and such. I’m not sure how long Workman was following her around but we do get to see Lily in all sorts of environments. We mostly get to see her as entrepreneur as she’s designing and developing her own line of dominoes that would be ideal for the work she does.

Lily Hevesh is just so inspirational and watching this amazing woman go through her life and the wonder she creates in others makes this one of my favorite docs of the year. It will stream on Discovery+ starting Thursday but you can also catch it in NYC at the IFC Center starting Friday.

Over the weekend, I caught a movie that I missed when it got a platform release in New York and L.A. on August 6, as well as when it played at the Tribeca Film Festival back in March. David Gutnik’s Materna (Utopia), an anthology of sorts about four very different women, played by the wonderful Kate Lyn Sheil,Jade Shete, Lindsay Burdge, and Assol Abudllina (the second and fourth of those who co-wrote the script with Gutnik). It’s an interesting anthology that deals with four women who are on the same New York subway when an incident happens, but it never really goes too far into the incident, or even resolves it, since it’s more about the individual women and their lives. I was really only familiar with Sheil and Burdge, although I like the former’s segment more than the latter, though they’re both strange looks at motherhood. I’ll freely admit that there were aspects to all the stories I didn’t get, but I think I ultimately enjoyed the final Assol Abudllina segment the best, even though that’s the only one not in English. I don’t think Materna (which is now available digitally on TVOD) will be for everyone, but it’s certainly an intriguing and somewhat enigmatic film from Gutnik and his collaborators.

Premiering on Hulu Friday is Clay Tarver’s comedy VACATION FRIENDS (Hulu), starring John Cena and Lil Rel Howery as two guys who meet while on vacation with their partners Kyla (Meredith Hagner) and Emily (Yvonne Orji), and they become friends! Okay, there’s a lot more to the movie than that, but I’m embargoed until Friday at midnight so there’s not much more I can say. I do think it’s interesting that this was originally announced in 2005 with Nicholas Cage and Will Smith in the lead roles, and at one point, Chris Pratt and his ex-wife Anna Faris were attached, as well as Ice Cube. It certainly would have been interesting to see any of those pairings, and maybe this would have gotten a theatrical release rather than just streaming.

Mini-Review: A high-concept movie like this could definitely be very funny or absolutely horrible, because it is basically a buddy comedy that relies so much on whether the leads can be funny on screen together. I generally like Lil Rel Howery (even though he’s literally been everywhere this year and is in danger of getting into a James Corden level of annoying) as well as John Cena, who I’ve been a fan of from his wrestling days.

Like I said, the premise is really simple, Howery’s Marcus and his girlfriend Emily are vacationing in Mexico where he plans to propose when they encounter Cena’s Ron and his girlfriend Kyla, who are clearly having the time of their lives, but they’re also the kind of people you don’t want to spend too much time with since they’re VERY LOUD. They end up spending a lot of time together and when they go their separate ways, Marcus thinks that’s it. He and Emily continue to plan their wedding with Marcus trying to prove himself to Emily’s military father Larry (Chuck Cooper). Of course, Ron and Kyla show up and make everyone uncomfortable as they “do their thing” to ruin Marcus’ wedding.

Comedy is a tough thing to critique and gauge how people will receive it, because everyone finds different things funny, and I’m sure that most actual critics will find many reasons to hate this, because it’s incredibly inappropriate and quite low brow. Fortunately, the movie doesn’t rely merely on Ron and Kyla making Marcus uncomfortable as when the movie transitions into a wedding comedy, there’s lots of family dynamics to add to the humor.

Although The Suicide Squad is still Cena’s best and funniest movie of the summer, this is another example of how he’s really trying to mix things up with his acting roles, and even though he’s still way behind Dwayne Johnson in terms of getting to the A-List. Howery is definitely better in this than in some of his other recent movies (koffSPACE JAMkoff), and he continues to be a really strong comic actor that does well with the right material.

Hagner is hilarious and I’m sure I’ve seen her being just as funny elsewhere but some of the best laughs are when she’s faking out Marcus and Emily, but she’s also a great counter to Cena. Unfortunately, that means Orji almost always has to play the straight-person to the other three, but there’s a lot of great set-ups for laughs around her. There are some things that feel played and overdone like the gag of Marcus and Ron getting high and what happens with that, but then there are more original yucks as well.

Ultimately, Vacation Friends does what it’s intended to do. As far as vacation/destination comedies go, this one could have been a hell of a lot worse, but the combination of cast and Tarver’s direction makes this a consistently funny movie that probably would have done okay with audiences in theaters.

Rating: 7/10

I haven’t had a chance to see the Pen15 Animation Special, which also debuts on Hulu this Friday, but I’m looking forward to it for sure, as I love this show.

The pandemic dramedy TOGETHER (Bleecker Street), directed by the great Stephen Daldry and Justin Martin, is the definition of a two-hander as it stars James McAvoy and Sharon Morgan (from last year’s Military Wives) as a couple who end up quarantined together during the COVID pandemic even though they clearly loathe each other and probably shouldn’t be together.

This is a movie where I really didn’t know what to expect, but it’s very dark and can’t necessarily be called a comedy and definitely not a romantic comedy, but is something akin to last year’s Malcolm and Marie, although in this case it’s very much meant to be taking place in the here and now. At first, the movie does seem to be fairly funny because of the jabs the two actors take at each other, but then it gets quite dramatic as it deals with her Mum dying in the hospital on her own.

In many ways, Together seems like something that would have worked just as well as a fast-paced play, since writer Dennis Kelly doesn’t make it anything that couldn’t be put on stage, although Daldry and Martin do find ways to keep it interesting as the two actors are moved around their flat. What’s particularly interesting is the pace which starts out quite quickly but then it slows down and gets quite dramatic as each actor goes off to do their own monologue.

It also deals with the seriousness of how badly England was struck by Covid, and it even gets into the mad rush to get the vaccine and the crazy things people would do in order to get it as soon as possible. Much of the question surrounding the duo is how they possibly could have at one time loved each other but now hate each other as their young son is seen in the background during their fiercest arguments. You spend much of the movie wondering whether they can reconcile and get back together, but more importantly, whether they should.

Listen, I’ve long been a fan of McAvoy, and I’ve always known what he could do as an actor but Horgan is a nice surprise, and it’s amazing to see two actors really push each other to get this amazing dual performance that drives the film.

Together covers a lot of ground, and its combination of an amazing script and two actors who can clearly dig in and really get the most out of it makes it a completely riveting film. Everyone involved with this movie has created a really brilliant piece of cinematic drama that can probably withstand multiple viewings to really appreciate what they’ve done, but especially for those two massive performances.

A movie that also debuted at Tribeca is Amber Sealey's NO MAN OF GOD (RLJFilms), another two hander of sorts with Elijah Wood playing Special Agent Bill Hagmaier and Luke Kirby playing notorious serial killer, Ted Bundy. The movie takes place in the mid-80s as Bundy is on death row at the Florida State Prison and Bill is trying out the FBI’s new methods of profiling serial killers in order to find them before they kill more people.

This is another movie that didn’t really click with me when I saw it at Tribeca, but I wanted to watch it again and give it another chance. This is definitely my kind of movie, and you can definitely see how the interviews between Hagmaier and Bundy could have led to things like the novels by Thomas Harris or David Fincher’s Mindhunter series on Netflix.

It’s well-written by Kit Lesser and the performance by Kirby is particularly strong, as he has a method of speaking that lulls you into a false sense of security, but overall, the delivery and pace of the film just isn’t as compelling as it could and should have been. The whole thing feels kind of stiff and staid, and while I like the idea behind the movie.

The movie also has a pretty amazing score, which does add a lot when things just aren’t very interesting, but as much as this is meant to be dark and creepy ala Silence of the Lambs, it just never fully delivers on the promising concept.

Premiering on Apple TV+ this Friday is the second season of the fantasy series, See, starring Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista, but I still haven’t seen the first season, so nothing more to add here.

Random ATLA Headcanons

(most of them involving Zuko sorry)

- Zuko's scar ended up very symbolic in the Fire Nation. For most of his life, it was a source of shame and disgrace. But after the war ended, when people realized peace was possible and they learned the true horrors of what the Fire Royals had been up to, that changed. The scar became a symbol of standing up for your beliefs no matter the personal cost. Protesters from all over the world would smear red paint across their left eye to show their support of their causes. Zuko was stunned but extremely touched, his mark of shame became a mark of honor. The practice outlived Zuko and became part of the culture, a lot don't even remember what it was from, only that red paint across the eye meant that they would not let tyranny stand in the way of peace.

- We know Azula was born insanely talented but that almost meant she had a harder time controlling her fire as a child. It was so powerful, it often got out of control. She sleep bent all the time and accidently burnt things far too often. Ursa/Zuko helped comfort her when she was upset but it was Ozai who taught her to channel her fire, to concentrate all her wild energy into a hotter, blue flame. Azula constantly feared losing control, of herself and of her things, because of this and is a major reason why those betrayals hurt so much and led to her downfall.

- Azula never recovered from her mental breakdown, she had good days of clarity in which she cursed Zuko and Team Avatar and swore that she would have revenge. But she also had a great many bad days when all she could do was scream and writhe on the floor. The instability had been seeded in her since childhood, once she started down that road she shattered completely. Zuko made efforts to get her help but also recognized that their father left scars he could not see nor heal. She died young, in her 30's, but Zuko kept her comfortable until the end.

- Azula actually did care for Zuko, she thought he was a weakling and a bit pathetic but she had pleasurable moments with him from her childhood. She was being sincere in her offer for Zuko to come home because she honestly did miss having him around (even if it was just to torment and manipulate him but that's practically how Azula shows affection). Ozai had been highly suspicious and initially wanted to throw Zuko in prision once he was back in the Fire Nation. It was Azula who praised Zuko's ruthlessness and gave him credit for the Avatar's death. Azula had no inkling that Aang might still be alive, she did it to change their father's mind. After Zuko betrayed, the first cracks in Azula's madness began to show, worsened by the fact that Ozai punished her heartily for convincing him to trust Zuko.

- After burning his child, Ozai denied Zuko any real treatment other than was needed to keep him alive. As such, Zuko's burn is much worse than it really should be, physically not just aesthetically. Uncle helped but without skill and materials there wasn't a lot he could do. He can still see out of the eye but not terribly well. He can't open the eye all the way, but he also can't close it right either. He can cry out of it but the tearducts were badly damaged and make tears painful. While the skin is pretty much dead and desensitized, there's a vague low-level hurt that Zuko has become accustomed to. Once he got on better terms with Katara, she bugged him until she let him look at his eye. She was horrified at the unrepaired damage and set on fixing the internal workings. She helped clear his vision a bit, soften the delicate skin around his eye and take away some of the pain. Zuko was so immensely grateful he started, to his embarrassment, to cry and cried harder when he realized it didn't hurt any more.

- Aang's death was a long, slow process. He was only about 70 when he died but he seemed much older. 100 years in suspended animation in the iceberg took it's toll. He went grey long before the others and he started to physically and mentally decline around age 50 or 60. When he did pass, everyone was sad but also a little relieved that the cheerful boy who liked riding penguins was finally free from his degenerating mind and body.

- Katara didn't truly consider Zuko a friend until months after the end of the war. She forgave him and then finally trusted him after he took lightening for her but as an actual friend, her care and affection took longer. The foundation was in the months following his coronation as Katara had to keep healing him and they bonded a lot, by the time the year anniversary came around, she was as close to Zuko as she was with the others.

- Toph never really reconciled with her parents. She felt guilty for what happened and for hurting them but any time she made a (half-hearted, brash) attempt to bridge the gap they insisted that she come home and be a good girl. She became bitter and resentful of their controlling nature and began avoiding them altogether. She continued to use the surname Bei Fong to rub it in their faces. Her daughters only saw their grandparents a few times because neither they nor Toph could accept each other faults.

- Katara became a social activist after the war. She and Aang, now married, travelled a lot together and separately saving whoever they could and spreading peace. Once the kids came along, Katara needed to stay home for longer periods of time but she still travelled when she could and still fought the good fight. When they were older, the kids would accompany Aang and Katara on their travels. This kept up for many years until Aang/Sokka's death in which she decided she wanted to go back to the Southern Water Tribe and devote herself to being a healer. She laughed when she heard the next Avatar was born close to her home and she knew that she could never really stop.

- One of the many, many reasons Zuko and Sokka became the ultimate best bros is that Zuko also enjoyed tinkering with machines. He wasn't nearly as creative and inventive as Sokka but he was knowledgeable on mechanics from his years at sea and pretty good at math. On lazy days, Sokka would come up with wild ideas and Zuko would do the calculations and begin building.

- But seriously, Zuko and Sokka are the actual best friends to ever friend. They hang out whenever possible which is never as often as they want but when they do meet up it's like they never seperated. Sokka has so much sway over the Fire Lord that some people joke he should be made a council member, which he eventually is to many people's distain. They remained best friends until the day Sokka died.

- The Gang didn't find out that it was Ozai who gave Zuko his mark until the hearing where Ozai was sentenced for his war crimes. Zuko tried to stop it but Iroh insisted that Ozai be held accountable for, what Iroh considered, his most despicable crime. There was a lot of hugs and tears from the Gang and Zuko was just super uncomfortable. Over the next few weeks, Ozai received quite a few visitors and was taught lesson after lesson one what happened to those who messed with a member of Team Avatar.

- Zuko actually came really close to dying from Azula's lightening. There was a lot of damage and Katara and other healers worked full time on Zuko for days to keep him alive. He almost slipped a few times but Katara (and eventually the rest of the Gang when they arrived) would yell and plead and he'd come back. It was tense for a few days but finally he stabilized. When he was conscious again, he was legitimately shocked at how concerned and relieved the Avatar and his friends (now Zuko's friends) were that he was ok.

- Sokka died fairly early, non-benders don't live nearly as long as benders. I'd place his death a few years after Aang who also died very young for a bender and an Avatar. He was mourned across the world for his heroism and bravery. He was at the North Pole when he died, his friends seeking care from the best healers in a futile attempt to try and save him. When he passed, the full moon darkened for a full minute before coming back brighter than before. They were immeasurably sad but they knew that Yue and Sokka had once again reunited.

- Once they found Ursa (ignoring the Search, Zuko just found and tracked her down and brought her back to the Palace), Katara grew close with her. Katara was immeasurably excited for Zuko to be reunited with his mother but also jealous. She tried to be supportive and wound up really liking Ursa. She was kind and gentle but also strong enough to murder a Fire Lord for her children. Ursa reminded her a lot of Kya and Katara soon looked to her as a pseudo-mother figure to help her when she was struggling.

- Likewise, Hakoda became another paternal figure in Zuko's life. Iroh was great and wonderful, Zuko's true parent who deserves that honor, but Hakoda thinks that a boy needs to learn other things. Whenever Zuko was at the South Pole, Hakoda would take Zuko out on trips, teach him to fish and hunt and do all the things the men of the village are expected to do. It's hard and he's not very good at it, but Zuko learns these skills. More importantly, Hakoda gave Zuko advice that maybe Iroh couldn't give, served as a younger, slightly more accessible adult man for Zuko to turn to.

- Basically what I'm saying is the Fire Nation Royals and the Southern Water Tribe Chief's family basically adopted each other into their families. The world doesn't quite understand but this is the dawn of a new age where anything is possible.

- Ursa was the one who initially introduced Zuko to swords. She was a master swordswoman herself and, as a non-bender, she needed some way to defend herself. Ozai deemed her swords skills unworthy and so she was forced to practice in secret. Young Zuko would watch her fascinated as she danced and maneuvered her sword with all the grace of a dancer. She taught Zuko the basics before she disappeared and he kept up the training as a way to honor her memory.

- Mai and Ty Lee ended up fitting into the group quite well. It was weird at first but once they stopped thinking about it's like they'd always been there. The two girls really blossomed in a healthy, open group and were able to recover from Azula's abuse. Mai and Zuko could be sickeningly cute and they never seemed happier than when they were with each other. Ty Lee spent most of her time with the Kyoshi Warriors but steadily developed good relationships with the Gaang. She became closest to Aang and Katara (and Zuko of course) and Toph and Sokka found themselves drawn to Mai's dry, cutting sense of humor. A gathering never felt complete without the two of them there.

- Ty Lee visited Azula whenever she was in the Fire Nation, apologizing for the betrayal (recognizing that it was a significant reason why Azula broke) and trying to help repair Azula's mind. It never helped and more often than not Ty Lee left in tears but, like Zuko, she persisted in visiting. Mai never saw Azula again after their last encounter at the Boiling Rock. She said she'd suffered enough at Azula's hands and had no desire to see her again. She knows Zuko is a little upset at the curt dismissal but Mai will never forgive the Fire Princess for everything that happened.

- Toph adopted Zuko as her big brother pretty early on. She stomped her foot one day and declared that Azula wouldn't accept him then Toph was going to steal Zuko away. The boy was confused but found he genuinely enjoyed having a younger sister to tease and dote on and carry around again. Toph would always burst into the Fire Nation Palace and demand to see her big brother, even when they were both old and grey.
