I've been thinking about trying to conceive of character advancement/progression being the concept of "levels." Even systems that don't use the word "levels" (Blades in the Dark) functionally have an XP and level system. The XP tells you when and what to level up.

The obvious alternative is a free-wheeling skill/power system. You've learned some things; figure out what new thing you can do.

But that naturally brings me back to the issue of *when* to level. How can we break out of the idea of "XP"?

Moves as leveling devices, or: fiction-first levels

Apocalypse World, and many games inspired by it ("Powered by the Apocalypse"), try to position themselves as a "fiction-first" gaming system. (How much this is actually true in practice... varies.)

If you know what fiction-first means, skip this next bit

This is often described as playing out like this:

GM: The biggest goon gets in your face and starts snarling about what she is owed. What do you do?

The player, *not* playing fiction-first: I'm going to roll intimidate. I want the goon to back off.

vs.

The player, playing fiction-first: I am going to get up in the goon's face and start screaming.

GM: is there actually violence there, or just pure emotional output?

Player: No violence. But I am getting as close to violence as I can. Millimeters away, can feel each other's breath.

GM: Ok, that sounds like the special move on your character sheet... If you do this, you'll be bound by the outcome options of that move.

Player: Hmm. Maybe I want to take a different approach...

In a fiction-first game, you describe what you are doing and only after this description do you try to find out if it triggers a mechanical consequences.

Creating a fiction-first skill

Apocalypse World (AW) works, in part, by tightly tying mechanics and mood. The mechanics of your character define them and their outlook, much more than a D&D Druid's personality is defined by their Druidness. A druid can be a hippie, a loner, an overeager naturalist, etc. But a Gunlugger (from AW) is inherently tuned to be ultraviolent.

We get better at the things we choose to do.

So in a class-less, level-less environment, how can characters advance? By recognizing that the character is already using that types of skills, so naturally they will be getting better at it. It is the recognition, after the fact, of a fictional tendency for the character to want to do certain things.

At the end of the session, discuss how each character has been choosing to solve problems recently. What exactly this means depends on the system, but for this example, imagine system that has broad social-physical-tech division.

If at least half of the team, including the player themself, agree that Ahmed's character has been using "tech" a lot recently (or perhaps just notably), it is time for Ahmed to pick from a tech power. And maybe it gets more fine-grained and nitty-gritty from there, but:

No tech classes. Just honest assessment of what the character has been doing, recently.

I haven't slept and I'm watching Be Cool Scooby Doo on Boomerang and I have opinions

The art style is disgusting but I do like the characterization they give the gang and especially Daphne. This is an exact polar opposite to how I feel about Mystery Inc: gorgeous art style, terrible characterization.

Let me explain by saying this: Daphne is so much better just being a weird silly bitch than a love sick teenager.

BCSD Daph will literally talk with only puppets for an episode

MI Daph will obsess over Fred

BCSD Daph will try to steal a jewel from her own family hotel using high tech jewelry thief tech

MI Daph will obsess over Fred

BCSD Daph makes silly beards out of her own hair and weirds out her best friends on a regular basis

MI Daph will obsess over Fred- and look really amazing as a Hex Girl band member, but still obsess and obsess over Fred

For the record, Velma is just a nerdy asshole in BCSD but that vastly beats her bitchy "I'm really going to force my boyfriend/close friend to choose me over an ACTUAL TALKING DOG THAT IS HIS ACTUAL AND MAYBE ONLY ACTUAL BEST FRIEND and get pissy about it and treat my friends like absolute shit" self in MI. Maybe also the tired mom friend in BCSD.

Fred is still obsessed with traps but is no longer a himbo and is more or less the tired dad friend forced to play the straight man. This is actually less annoying and plays off better believe it or not.

Shaggy and Scooby are actually kinda low key comedy relief in BCSD like usual but they lean towards hipster nerds. But they're about as stale as American Dad characters. This still beats how weirdly they were portrayed in MI by just being the Team Screamers and occasionally being forced to expunge edgy teenage romance plot that has no business coming out of a hippy and dog's mouths.

These are almost entirely different characters but for the better imo

And you know what? They are entirely different characters compared to the past iterations in almost every regard. That's not a bad thing at all.

Silly and weird girl Daphne is the best personality for her since What's New Scooby Doo. Not only is she allowed to emote about things that aren't fashion or Fred or whatever, she's actually a character! She has a personality! A fun one! Not that I disliked her personality when she was finally a capable investigator that could also kick ass- I just like silly himbos and SHE TOOK FRED'S HIMBO ENERGY

If only the series didn't look like it was animated by the guys behind those very bad, low effort comedy central cop/forest ranger shows. Call it a unique art style thats subjective, I call it "ugly for the sake of being ugly" like most Adult Swim shows. If it was animated like Scooby Doo and Guess Who? Or What's New Scooby Doo then I'd be much happier.

what can I say, I love a good air gutair. Knowing all the words, the gutair solo, the drum solo is a party trick that has gotten a lot of attention.

Just the Two of Us - Grover Washington, Jr & Bill Withers

I typically play this song if I’m driving with my mom because it is normally the two of us. I also find the middle of the song when it’s just intramental is really calming, I’ll forget I’m listening to it until his voice comes back at the end all smooth.

Talk 2 Me - Montell Fish

this song got popular on tiktok but I also saw this guy live when he came to Toronto because I had gotten into his other music, I love the gutair and how it builds as well as the random cut offs. the entire song seems like it was recored in the bathroom which makes it that much better.

Electric Feel - MGMT

this song is the definition of working at a summer camp. it played all the time and I had it added to all my playlists, it was cool to work with kids and introduce them to your music and influence their taste, lots of kids loved this song.

Good Old-Fassioned Lover Boy - Queen

I absolutely love Queen and the way this song moves up and down in my head, I feel like there are no bad Queen songs. It’s always a safe bet on aux as well as just hanging out, I absolutely love their music.

Ain’t No Mountain High Enough - Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell

this song is also very summer camp. I remember this playing on a bus trip to a tournament when I was in high school, there was a few of us that sang a long and manged to improvise the harmony and who sang what part, I miss those trips with my team and screaming the classics.

Somebody’s Watching Me - Rockwell

I fucking love this song, I listen to it all the time in the fall when it’s spooky season. I wonder who’s watching me now (who?) the IRS? is a banger of a lyric.

Little Lion Man - Mumford & Sons

this. fucking. song. i remember when I came back to this song when I was much older because this is the music tied to my childhood in a way, I was always listening to my dad’s music and this was definetly on his playlist. When I had came across it later there was a wave of calmness and memories of growing up, I hold this song close to my heart.

Dreams - Fleetwood Mac

ughhhhh this song is so chef’s kiss. I love fleetwood mac and am honestly suprised it hasn’t shown up before on this list. I’ve spent evenings dancing around my kitchen with friends as we pretended to be hippy’s, there’s always something so peace and love about fleetwood mac that brings me back to center and calmness when I listen to it.

Dying a Stranger

Notes: uhhh i try not to intrude on the plot or on the characters when making self insert ocs so I don't do much here. This is more just to make peace with a fear of mine. This whole fic is more just my character's thoughts while in episode 3. Don't think too much about the tense (ie past tense, present tense). Time is an illusion. This is probably a really bad fic anyways enjoy bye

Chapter 1: Warm-ups

The beach was an... interesting place for team building exercises, but anything get me out of my cave-like workplace. I thought working in a theme park would be more interesting. All I really get to see are wires, codes and a whole lot of Pauline's face.

This blue-haired guy has been a lifesaver since I got here. He's talkative enough to keep a conversation going but doesn't leave me out of them (like a lot of people tend to do). Another friend of his arrives and he starts talking to her. I keep talking to Badyah and Logs in the meantime. Something about zombie mascots. I just had to be there I guess. It was from a different employee initiation session than the one I attended.

Everyone was just walking around talking to each other, waiting for the team building guy. One by one, though we were called by Barney. I didn't know what it was for until I myself was called.

"IT Guy." Norma stated.

Then Badyah was called.

"...and Deathslide"

I guess he was quizzing Norma on park jobs?

"That's just where they work at the park."

Ah. I guess not?

Badyah excitedly goes to talk to them–don't know why she's so excited about Norma knowing where she worked but okay.

I decided to join them since there's not really much to do except stand around and wait. I didn't catch much of the conversation but I did get a better picture of what that was all about.

"Badyah, she needs to learn your real name."

"Yeah.. my name just means 'enlightened genius'. I prefer 'Deathslide'" she imitates a slide and explosion. I'm pretty sure I saw Norma change her expression.

Wait. Is that just what she calls everyone by? Their park jobs? And she calls me 'IT Guy'???? That's not right!

"Um. I'd rather you not call me IT Guy though.." I interject. "It's more accurate to call me 'Tech Maintenance'" They all gave me quizzical looks.

"IT Guy implies I only work with computers. I don't just work with computers." I explained

"But.. wouldn't you rather be called by your actual name?"

"I mean.. I don't mind nicknames. I've been called worse. But for the sake of social etiquette; Hi, I'm Mason, but you can also call me Kai." I hold out a hand for a handshake but quickly put it away to talk some more. "But don't ask me how you get Kai from Mason, I haven't thought of a good joke yet."

Badyah laughs, then Barney, then Norma, reluctantly.

After hearing his name, Barney starts to walk towards another group and Norma soon follows. I was left with Badyah- Oh, sorry. I mean Deathslide.

"You're a funny guy, Kai."

"Thanks. Don't expect much in the future, though."

"Oh, come on. Why is everyone nowadays so hard on themselves?"

"Is that a rhetorical question or do you actually want me to answer?"

We both laugh again.

...

A van soon arrives and it looks like something you'd see in a hippie convention. Great. They're gonna be one of those guys.

He makes his entrance, says and does some weird stuff, I try not to think too much about it. He said something about bounding and trust or fear or something. I just wanted to go home. Too much social interaction and too much personal space being crowded by this... weirdo in one day. And we haven't even started with the exercises yet!

And look, I try not to judge people and folks like him are often nice but he's just... off. In so many ways. Walking red flag, this guy.

Whatever, the first exercise is simple enough. I get paired with this lady who works with smoothies and she guides me through an obstacle course while I was blindfolded. We switch turns after I finished, but I got a bit distracted by this dog falling into a pit...

Wait did that little red kid just poof and teleport–

The next exercise is a trust fall. Again, simple. Fall, switch, then catch. Josh was a bit heavy, but I work with animatronics so I managed.

Then this exercise... Oh no... I hate this game. I thought I'd never see it again after all these years. And lo it was before my eyes.

Just let them lead you, I thought. Just hold their hands, do as you're told and don't think too much about it. Okay. Here we go...

Nope.

"I am not playing this game." I said, matter-of-factly. "Too many bad memories."

"Oh? Is that so? Well... we're working on our fears, aren't we? Why not take this as an opportunity, hm?"

Oh yeah. This guy is bad news. But I'm too tired to object and too much of a wuss to go against majority. So with a sigh, I say "...Fine."

I am so sorry to the people who had to hold my sweaty hands..

...

I thought I was scared of this game... But, Norma... It didn't help that Harmony was so persistently in her space.

I should've refused to play. Maybe then she could've followed my lead. We both would've been better off...

"I'm still worried about Norma" Badyah's voice brought me back from my thoughts. I take a second to look back at the poor girl, sitting by the waves.

"You should talk to her." I said

"I really want to..." She rubs her arm "..but I think she'd rather be alone."

"Oh, trust me. It's better if she had company. It doesn't matter if she talks back, just be there for her"

She looks back at the girl, concern written all over her face. And she starts to walk. I wanted to go with her, to apologize or...something. But I didn't. I'm so stupid.

After a while, the pair comes back just in time for another game I'm guessing. Hopefully he just sends us home, but I doubt it. We stand in a semicircle.

"I hope you all enjoyed the warm-ups" I knew it.

"Warm-ups?!" That's what I was thinking!

"Now we begin the real work to defeat your fears.." I do NOT like where this is going...

Chapter 2: Fear

"You're gonna need to dig into the deepest, darkest place inside you. Find your greatest fear." I don't need to dig deep, dude.

"And now, feed it to the skull"

Skull?

"Skull?"

"That can't be normal." I agree with the talking dog.

"I always bring a skull to a party" Wait. Talking dog?

"Okay. Not normal" Hmm...

"I bring my skull to parties" I said, knocking on my head.

"Please, feed your fear to the skull" This man needs to be less obvious.

Norma hesitates and thankfully Badyah takes the initiative. She holds the skull but nothing happens. Until..

...

One by one they each touch the skull. And everytime they do they see... something. I knew this guy was bad news.

Somehow I was never tossed the skull. Must be the way I blend in. But before Harmony could notice that, Barney and Norma seem to be back to normal.

"Tech Maintenance! You got out of the fear world by yourself?"

"Umm.. not exactly?"

"Oh, I knew I missed one! Go fetch!" He throws the skull my way. But just as I flinch to block it, Barney and Norma got to me by the nick of time.

As I opened my eyes, the beach was different. It was empty and.. there was an event being held. Everything was black and it was raining; a casket was being carried by some figures. The three of us who touched the skull were now wearing black palette clothes.

"A.. funeral service?"

"I guess you're afraid of dying?" Oh, if only it were that simple..

"Not quite. Take a closer look."

"I'm not sure I want to" Barney looked sour.

"Relax. It's not like the body is gonna be mutilated. Although.. it might as well be"

We walked to the casket once it was lowered. I opened the lid to the top half. And there I was.

Barney gasped "You're..."

"Yep."

The body inside was me, sure, but... not now. In both ways. What I mean is I will die and have already died. This version of me, at least.

I had longer hair, and wore a dress. A pained look on face, makeup applied. I wasn't hideous by any means, but I felt sick anyways.

We all sat in a moment of silence, as if grieving this fake corpse. The wind was cold but my palms still sweat.

"It's not that I'm scared of dying," I finally spoke. "I'm just scared I'll die a stranger."

"Remembered as someone else. My true self, rejected; even in death."

Barney seems to understand.

"And I'm scared that this is still a possibility."

His mouth agape slightly.

We took another moment of silence with the corpse.

"Y'know.. It's funny. The way I feel about this... dead.. me. It's like actual grief. With all it's stages." I give a half-smile to my dead self. "And now.. I'm ready for acceptance." I close the casket as I close my eyes. I felt tears form and trickle down my cheek.

It's time to say goodbye to an old friend. Kinda poetic really..

"Say hi to Lola for me. Ask if she's proud, would ya?" I know I probably looked silly doing that but.. it felt right.

"Who's Lola?"

"Oh, that's just how you say 'grandma' in Tagalog. She never got to know the real me.. and I'll never get to know how she would've felt.. But I think it's better to be optimistic."

Barney grumbled agreeingly but looked of bittersweet. I wish I understood.

The environment cracks and shatters like glass and we're brought back to the real world. The only things from the fear world that remained were my tears. Dried but fresh, they mark my face.

I'll let them handle the rest.

Today is Hippie Day!

At Southend we have something that is called hippie day. No, we don’t practice free love in the park and smoke weed all day (at least some of us don’t) – it’s a day in which everyone is free to work on their own concepts that they can present to the team at the end of the day. Some will work on new tech, some will work on a graphical style that they are interested in exploring and some will write down gameplay concepts or even stories. The concepts might become projects, some might work as an inspiration for ongoing projects.

An Action Brawler Rhythm MMORPG exclusively for Amiga CD32?

In a lot of ways it’s like fishing. You might just catch a big one. But then you have to be really quiet and wear a fishing hat. Eh…

DAY 8: LITTLE DUCK

I’m gonna talk about a bunch of Mighty Duck OC children no one wanted to hear about. FUN TIMES.

Duke and @fluxchix OC Gallery have two kids.

Luke, who's the oldest of all the earth duck kids. I just explained him, do I have to explain to him again? NGhhhhhh. Well, as a kid since he was the first kid born and was the only kid around for several years he started out being spoiled by the whole team with some IT TAKES A VILLAGE raising. Everyone from the canon team and other OC teams we had made have baby sat this child at least once. He pretty much looks exactly like Duke but a little bit lighter grey. And he has his mom’s eye color which I forget what that was. SORRY.

Their second kid is Mollisa. She was the most quiet of all the kids, but not meak. Just a good sweet little quiet child and not a shit starter like the other half of the kids that were had. Looks a lot like her mom with her dad’s eyes (Green is what we headcanoned for Duke I think?)

So I have Nosedive and my OC Duluna L’Orange. Duluna being Duke’s little sister. Their daughter is name Mercedes because Nosedive decided to name her that because she ended up being born in the back of Phil’s Mercedes. Looks more like her dad, yellow feathers but black hair and green eyes like her mom. SUPER CUTE. Unbiased opinion but the most cutest of all the duck babies okay. Phil would probably have her in a gerber baby ad who knows. As a kid she calls Grin SMILE instead. Ha. And very giggly. Woo. And very much a daddy’s girl and gets away with everything.

Sooo I ship Tanya and Wildwing and their kid was Tayshia. Their daughter was smart tech like Tanya and also good leader when it came to tactional moves. As a kiddo she used to get in shenanigans with Mercedes but at some point switched to acting like a little adult and narcing on the other duck children when they were causing trouble. She looks more like her mom but, um ,flatter hair. And Wildwings eyes, which I headcanon brown. Where she learned to be a little snitch we’ll never know.

Grin has three kids with @fluxchix OC Nina. Mind you we named the kids back in high school and we made the older son named Karma and then two twin girls later be Dharma and Krystal and it bugs me this day because the twins should be Karma and Dharma to match and then the big brother should have a different name AHHH. Anyways. Their mom Nina is a duck frum Cheribu, a planet where centuries ago Saurian and Duck crossbreeding was happening- ending up with ducks with brightly colored feathers, hair, and beaks. Nina is pink feathered but only one kid got that. Ha.

Karma is pretty much a clone of Grin but blonde, same feathers and eyes and everything. But has I guess California hippie guy energy. I mean still metatitive and stuff, and usually the chillist out of all the kids, breaking up fights between the fellow kid ducks and what not.

Dharma and Krystal weren’t as fleshed out as much as characters. Krystal though is supposed to be buff and big like her dad and got her mom’s pink feathers. Dharma is tinier like her mom but still quite a fighter too. Oh BOY. I can’t explain how two children can be well behaved but also rough house with each other a lot but that's them.

Mallory has twins with @fluxchix OC Crono. Crono is the leader of the second team that comes to Earth (Gallery is from that team too MINOR DETAIL) Her twins were born much later and were never really fleshed out. Their nicknames were Blaster and Caster. Both redheads. Like their mom. They look identical but one is a boy and the other a girl and I don’t remember which is which. Gender is a construct anyways. These two also rough house a lot. Blaster becomes a weapons expert and Caster a magic user. CLEVER NICKNAMES SEEEE.

Then there is Maestro that is Canard and Lucretia’s baby that happens in limbo. He falls out of a portal at age 13 into California. Ha. He has his mom’s purple hair and dads brown feathers (but a little lighter?) and bright blue eyes which I don’t remember what parent he got those from ha. Rather sweet kinda shy boy but his mom taught him how to fake confidence in intense situations so people don’t bully you. Whee. Maestro is actually a nickname given to him by some good Saurians they were hanging around with in Limbo.. Canard named him after Wildwing his BEST FRIEND. Maestro actually spent more time with his mom before landing on Earth and weirdly would go by Wildwing Decoy if he could. SO WEIRD. But yeah.

Karsuno Boys’ Family Relationship Headcanons

Kageyama - Kageyama lives in an upper-middle-class household in which his dad is pretty much in charge. His mom is very sweet and soft-spoken. His dad was a little appalled when he found out Kageyama wanted to play volleyball (he had been a baseball player and hoped Kageyama would follow in his footsteps). Despite this, his father puts immense pressure on Tobio to be the best at his sport, even paying for private classes. Even so, his parents almost never show up to his games. He does not often hear praise (this is why he secretly loves being around Hinata, who compliments him often).

Hinata - Hinata is super close with his mom and always willing to run errands for her. He feels incredibly protective of Natsu, despite usually finding her annoying. His Dad is always overseas on business and he honestly doesn’t know him very well. He and Natsu have a lot of freedom and went on lots of outdoor adventures as kids.

Tanaka - Tanaka’s dad has never really been in the picture. His mom is so sweet, but also worked constantly and was pretty unreliable (she goes off partying/would forget to pick them up from school, etc.) This led to the close bond between Ryu and Saeko. They also didn’t have a ton of money, so they ate lots of instant dinners as a kid. He listened to lots of music that would have been “inappropriate” for his age.

Sugawara - Sugawara was forced to grow up quickly when his mom passed away suddenly when he was ten. With his dad working constantly, it became up to him to cook for himself and his little brother, along with doing all of the other chores. Sugawara’s cooking is better than anyone else on the teams. He goes to visit his mother’s grave every week.

Asahi - Asahi’s parents are complete hippies. As a child, he was encouraged to dress and style his hair the way that he wanted and encouraged to show his feelings. His parents are so in love with each other that it was kind of gross. They made him eat lots of organic/vegetarian food and didn’t let him play computer or video games.

Nishinoya- Noya’s parents had him very young (They were 16 and 18) and he was born prematurely (hence his smallness). Though they were very loving, his parents did not set great boundaries or routines, and he became pretty much a leash child due to his uncontainable energy.

Daichi - Daichi comes from a lower-middle-class family where his father is a former member of the Japan SDF (military). His parents impose strict rules on their children which often involve group punishments. As the oldest of 5 siblings, he was constantly trying to make sure everyone had their sh*t together.

Yamaguchi- Yamaguchi was an only child with loving parents. He never needed to compete for his parents’ attention, and he got skilled at keeping himself entertained, which perhaps led to his introversion.

Tsukishima - Tsukishima’s parents are both in high management positions at the same tech company. They have money to spare (hence the fancy headphones). Tsuki’s room always had to be spotless and he was sent to etiquette classes as a young child (he hated these). He was close with his older brother as his parents were a bit detached, but this ended after *the incident*, and Kei became quite lonely afterward.

Hello fellows, be prepared to read, it's going to be a bit long :D

Hope you had a great Halloween ;) Some of you have noticed related download problems on our website ( We received a lot of messages about --> Thanks to all people who took time to send us a note about, it helped us )

We worked with BlueHost to reconfigure our databases <--- meaning hours with the hotline to push them hard to repair their unknown manipulations that give all the errors you encountered :/ Silly isn't it ?

It begins to be ok ... Not sure it's 100% but many errors seem to be repaired ... at last ! Crazy week indeed :)

MEANWHILE ...

MAJOR UPDATE incoming ... I finished the K-505 Base-game update <-- this is important because many things are encapsulated inside the Base-game files ! Unfortunately, Maxis modified some of these files and we were quite surprised to discover all the hidden changes ... A K-505 MAJOR UPDATE was so needed :) And it is done.

Beyond the files here and there, the most important thing of this update is the merge of Base-game + Seasons files all together.

In addition, we made complete K-505 updates for : Stranger Ville, Forgotten Hollow + a minor update for Sulani ( Island Living ) ...

ATTENTION : As we currently updating ALL the K-505, we re-arranged the Download Section ( a good thing anyway since BlueHost messed our databases ... :/ )

A word about the K-505 Mod ---> until Cottage Living : free doesn't mean free to steal, or use in house creation, photography posts, etc ... without crediting the tech-hippie / k-hippie team ...

The Clones as Middle Aged Suburb Mom Scenarios

Rex- the mom trying to go to the bathroom in peace but is sitting on the toilet surrounded by three kids, one standing in the bathtub screaming, one yelling for her to open his juice, and the third somehow covered in what you hope is melted chocolate Fives- “Who wants cereal for dinner?” Echo- Has every parenting book imaginable. Reads up on one of those parenting websites on the daily. Starts sentences with “Well in this book it says....” whenever parenting issues are brought up. Jesse- Wine mom at all the block parties. Always ends up drunk before the burgers are off the grill. Tries to pull everyone to the middle of the cul de sac when cupid shuffle of cha cha slide comes on. Kix- The mom that always shows up to things in the white v neck t-shirt and sweatpants with “Juicy” on the butt. Drives a Hummer. Swears her purse is real coach. Coric- The mom yelling at her kids to stay off the sidewalk becasue they could get hurt, out of the grass because they could start sneezing, away from metal mailboxes because the sun could reflect and hurt their eyes. Always has bandaids and rubbing alcohol on hand Hardcase- The mom whose yard is just full of toys and the grass is a little too high. Its mid august and the Christmas lights are still up. 3/7 nights its takeout. Too busy cheerin her boys on at their football practices. Dogma- Chore chart mom, scheduled day down to the last minute mom. Karen cut, will not hesisitate to report you to the HOA for your too tall grass. Runs the neighborhood watch team. Curfew is at 8:30 Tup- Hippie mom. always wears the colorful skirts and bead jewelry. Art teacher at the elementary school. Always has paint on her. Walks around barefoot. Just vibes. Cody- Veteran mom of the neighborhood. Her last one is off to college next year so she just chills with her garage door open with a beer. Chats and gets along with everyone. Kids love her. Epicenter of community conflict control Waxer/Boil- No kids of their own but adopts all the kids in the neighborhood, giving them treats and watching them when the parents need help Wolffe- mama bear. Doesn’t really vibe with the rest of the neighborhood. Thinks most of the kids pick on hers. Boost/ Sinker- The gossip moms. Will tell everyone and anyone ya business. They will chat about it with each other first, but then each of them will go tell a completely different version to someone else. The great garbage can misunderstanding of 2018 was their fault. Hunter- The mom who always has a headache. Her kids are wild and like to fight a lot. Give this woman a coffee please Wrecker- Fireworks mom. Always has the biggest stock of them for the holidays and cookouts. kids have a rather large collection of nerf guns. Tech- Has a Masters degree but is staying home to watch the kids because its cheaper then putting them into daycare for $900 a month (per kid). Will always remind you of that. Kids are sensitive to everything from peanutbutter to berries so she always brings her own snacks for them to the community pool Crosshair- Works third shift so her husband does all the mom stuff.

Where are the rest of the villains in this AU? :0

So I've actually answered this question before, and was just gonna link you to the post....but I can't seem to find it so....guess I'll be answering this again...(I honestly wouldn't care if there weren't enough villains to fill a college campus 🤦‍♀️)

So a lot of this is repeated from the last post, wherever it is now 😂 but I believe I expanded on several of these villains too.

First let's cover all the villains as a whole. They are all no longer villains! Tobey went good at around 14 and ended up unintentionally inspired a lot of villains to slowly do the same. The last few villains gave up crime when WordGirl retired because they didn't feel like crime would be the same without WordGirl coming to stop them. A few years after Tobey went good, when several villains had already gone good, Two Brains and Tobey teamed up to create the Anti-Villain Association (AVA), which was intended to be a place where former villains and criminals could talk out their issues with other former villains so that they wouldn't turn back to crime. It's still running to this day and they meet once a week at Two Brains's old lair. They don't just keep it to their meetings, they also have fun functions and activities. For the most part the city doesn't think twice about the AVA, but you know there are always those people who don't trust others, and these types of people are convinced the AVA is simply a cover up, that all the former villains are still villains and are gathering to plan a teamed take over of the city or world. The AVA generally ignores these people. Many of each villains' respective weapons were destroyed after going good, but some weapons still remain for different reasons. Some weapons are nice to have for an emergency (Two Brains has rays that don't hurt people, just trap their feet with spray cheese, a nice thing to keep around in the event of a burglary), some weapons have uses in every day life (when making dozens of sandwiches at once, Chuck's condiment ray comes in handy), some felt it was wrong to destroy them for no reason if they weren't hurting anyone or anything (Tobey's robots who weren't destroyed by WordGirl are happily living in a very large cabin DEEP in the woods, Tobey didn't feel right about destroying them, they are practically sentient!) and some the villains felt were too dangerous to destroy (Mr. Big had more advanced mind control tech that he and Leslie were worried would send out a mind control signal if destroyed, rather than take the risk, they simply locked them up under high security.)

Now let's get into each AVA member (well I mean i guarantee I'll forget people, but I'm gonna try and if I missed a specific former villian you want to know about let me know):

Two Brains- The Steven brain was especially inspired by Tobey's actions, and wanted to be a good guy again. However he knew keeping the mouse brain at bay would be a challenge, and knew his only chance of being good was to find a legal way of getting his cheese fix. So Two Brains started making his own cheese. He even made a cheese aging ray to speed up the process. He ended up being able to make more cheese than he could eat, and turned it into a business. Because he doesn't have to spend actual time on the aging part, he can sell quality cheese for a cheap price, and it's a very successful business. I don't have a company name for his cheese business, but the slogan is "Evilly Delicious!" His henchmen joined his efforts and still help with the cheese factory. One henchmen, the one with no name, had a daughter (also unnamed because I think I'm funny XD) that Two Brains always considered to be a granddaughter to him. She is aware of her family's past actions and is fine with it. She sometimes will help in the cheese factory but generally prefers not to. Two Brains still co-runs the AVA with Tobey.

Chuck and Butcher- Since they went good around the same time and did the same thing, I'm just doing them together. Chuck went for his dream of running his own sandwich shop, which started as a food truck and now is a restaurant, and Butcher partnered with him and helped him. Chuck makes the sandwiches and figures out the recipes, and Butcher helps and supplies the meat. They buy their cheese from Two Brains. Chuck has a better, albeit not perfect relationship with his mom and brother. Chuck also at one point made T shirts to sell in the sandwich shop...the only people who bought any were the other members of the AVA, and that was only to be supportive. The only people who ever actually wear the T shirts are Butcher and Whammer, and again, it's really only to be supportive and it's not very often they get worn. Butcher got married, had a son, and later had a divorce. The marriage was fine, and the divorce was civil, and he's really good friends with his ex-wife and her new husband. His son's name is Kale and he has powers similar to his dad, except dealing with vegetables. Butcher and Kale don't have the best relationship, and this is really on Kale's part. Kale's very prideful and shuts out help when it's offered to him, even if he needs it (which is often) and Butcher's instinct is always to help his son. Kale has a son of his own who he had at a younger age, and who's mother is currently out of the picture. The son's name is Baker, he's 8 and like his father and grandfather (and great grandfather!) has food related powers, his relating specifically to bread (bread, not pastries! Though Baker does like baking pastries!). Baker loves his grandpa and loves spending time with him. While Kale may shut his dad out when he needs help, it's nothing that would ever make Kale keep Baker away from Butcher.

Granny May- Oh yeah, she's still alive. TBH she's probably the oldest person in the city lol. She simply retired crime upon her family's request. She currently is living in an assisted living facility and is still going strong! She's in a scooter now, but still carries a cane with her for no other reason than to whack people of her own volition.

Mr. Big- Big really struggled with going good, despite wanting to. eventually he figured out his problem was greed and wanting money, so he went in the complete opposite direction and became a minimalist hippie. He currently lives in a trailer park, still has a collection of soft bunny toys and uses a walker now. He and Leslie are good friends.

Leslie- When Big went all hippie, he gave his business to Leslie. She, practically overnight, turned it around into a very successful, but also very sustainable and ethical business. Essentially it's Amazon if they had a heart 🙃

Whammer- Whammer loves his job as a professional demolisher! You need an unsafe building torn down? Call Whammer and he'll wham it down! Remodeling your kitchen and need it gutted first? Call Whammer, he'll be happy to wham your kitchen! Snow covering the ground and need the roads cleared? Call Whammer with caution cause he might accidentally pile all the snow against the buildings, trapping everyone inside, but damn those roads sure will be whammed clear!

Amazing Rope Guy- ARG got decent at rope tricks and is now an entertainer. He will certainly not be considered for America's Got Talent but if you want to entertain children at a birthday party and are on a budget, he's your guy! Becky and Tobey used to call him for every one of Theo's birthday parties (to support him) until Theo politely requested they stop. Now he's being hired for Julie's parties.

Lady Redundant Woman- over the years she moved up in her copier place, and eventually had done every position there. Now knowing how to do every position required in a copier store, she opened her own store and her copies are the employees. It's perfect because no matter what, she always has the EXACT right amount of workers, and technically she's the only one working so she can keep all the money for herself or her business (corrupt business people, don't get any ideas!). Dave visits her often and is so proud of her. She hates this. But she sure does love her copy store!

Ms. Question- She got hired onto the police force as a professional interrogator. As you can imagine, she's VERY good at her job. She doesn't even use her powers most of the time. That being said, if it was a severe crime like a murder and the person just wasn't talking or she had reason to believe they were lying or withholding details, she would be happy to use her powers, but most of the time she refuses to use her powers on others.

Learnerer- Is a detective! He watches suspects and learns their habits and can easily detect clues that will tell him exactly who it was if it was someone he's observed. He works with Ms. Question often and they're actually a pretty good team. How's that for a team up?

Victoria Best- When her and her brother were teenagers, they were taken away from their parents and put into a foster family. At first neither of them were happy for obvious reasons, they were just taken away from their parents and home. However, while Victor stayed loyal to his parents' wishes and refused to believe that they should have been taken away, Victoria soon began to see their parents for who they really were, and her own past actions for what they really were. She joined the AVA and made an effort to change, encouraging her brother to let go of their parents' control. She currently has no contact with her biological parents, and sees her foster parents regularly. She has one daughter who she loves deeply and always encourages her to just have fun with things. Try everything and fail with pride. Victoria's daughter sees Victoria's foster parents as grandparents. Victoria visits her brother somewhat regularly for small talk, sometimes she'll try to convince him to join the AVA, but she's learned to not push it. She really just sees him to stay in touch, her daughter has never meant Victor, and while Victoria would love for her daughter and brother to meet, she refuses to let them until Victor starts making an effort to be better. She still has hope her brother will come to his senses one day. Victoria runs a daycare, and did so because she wanted to be able to catch warning signs of poor parenting early in life so the children don't have to suffer in a bad household for as long as she had to.

Eileen- Inspired by, I think it was one of those "The Time I..." commercials Disney Channel used to do, Eileen learned that many people don't have the resources to have as nice birthdays as she does. She felt bad and started donating things to charities so people could have as wonderful of birthdays she always wanted to have every damn day. She currently runs her own charity, and if someone seems just a little too greedy, Eileen goes all hulk on them and turns into the Birthday Girl. People usually listen after that.

Hal- Hal sells his old blueprints for weapons to the cops so they can get a lead, and might even work undercover at times to sell current villains crappy weapons that allow them to get caught.

Coach- Instead of coaching new villains on how to be villains, Coach coaches newcomers to the AVA on the basics of staying good when you just want to commit a crime.

Seymour- Started a Youtube series called "Can You Spot the Scam?" where he exposes scams around the city and gives advice on how to spot them and avoid them. What he's learned from this is: people are not very good at spotting scams.

Inviso-Bill and Big Left Hand Guy- Married. They got married before going good and before WordGirl retired. AVA members and current villains and WordGirl were all invited to the wedding. They spent a little bit of time as a married criminal duo before retiring. They still don't really know what they should do with themselves as good guys, they both sort of hop from job to job. But they are happy none the less!

Rhyme and Reason- Retired after WordGirl did, just didn't feel right to continue crime without her. They are in a QPR and like Inviso-Bill and BLHG don't really know what to do with themselves, but are happy just to have each other and the AVA

you’ve all wanted it, and i’m not ready to go to sleep yet, so here’s the latest installment of the sonic underground rewatch!

episode 6 thoughts under the cut!

• unrelated to the episode but there was some lego ninjago commercial that showed like. non-lego versions of the main characters and it looked nice. don’t know if it was for a show or the website idk i wasn’t paying attention • [GUITAR RIFF] SONIC- • i will literally never get tired of the opening theme and you can’t change my mind, i would die for a remaster of this. it doesn’t even have to be a cover. gimme a live performance and i will cry • “tangled webs”. spider concerns already • ooh, swatbot factory. interesting • manic just slid down a little rocky hill on his ass and that’s gotta hurt • sonia stop shining that laser pointer in manic’s eyes you’re gonna kill him • “switch six, switch six...” reminded me of the fun fact that your brain can only identify numbers up to a maximum of 4 or 5 at a glance, i forget which. but like... notice how if you only look at something very briefly you wouldn’t be able to immediately know “oh there’s 27 objects there” but you can very quickly identify 1-4 • sonia stop hitting manic with the drone what is wrong with you • some of these background characters are passable and some of them are hideous, there’s no in-between

• oh it’s the lion boy!! his voice is weird but it’s him!! • god dingo’s face is all kinds of fucked up in this close up as he’s talking • why is robotnik’s cape flowing so far behind him when he’s walking at a somewhat slow pace • i find it funny when eggman’s henchmen mock him when he’s not around, but i didn’t expect sleet to do that • “intruder .8 kilograms? what?? • how does it weigh a drone that is hovering in mid-air • somehow dingo identifies the drone as being piloted by sonia despite it being a hunk of metal with cameras on it • dingo being or looking like in the case of my headcanon a grown man and slobbering over sonia is kinda freaky (it’s partially why i made the hc so it’s less yikes but it’s still uncomfortable and i’m definitely gonna tone it down because fuck) • sleet don’t hit him!! • sonia is clearly frustrated during her conversation with manic (he’s being reckless as fuck) but the animators decided to give her a dead eyed smile for the whole scene • i wonder how they made the mechanical sounds? like the electronic shweeshweeshwee of the robots walking or the whoosh of doors opening? foley stuff is fascinating to me and i wanna know if they had to do any weird shit

• sleet is monologuing about how he hears the pitter patter of manic’s little feet and oh my god his eyes • how is dingo sneaking up behind manic he’s so fucking huge and noisy • sleet says “sylvia” before whacking the drone out of the air with what looks like an entire swatbot he just sort of picked up? i don’t get the reference and since when is he so strong • okay in the next shot it’s just an arm but still • “sometimes you just have to get their attention”? • cool transition between scenes with the camera glitching and shutting down from the perspective of the drone, that’s neat • dingo picks up sonia but wasn’t he just behind manic? once again the pacing is confusing me • “oh, ick” me too sonia • manic and sonia are tied up and were but in gigantic chairs and it looks so funny • “now, sarah” okay i get the “sylvia” thing now, sleet’s just forgetting sonia’s name somehow • sonia says “twit-face” and i feel like she could be more clever than that • “whatever, sophia” • “where’s sonic!?” [NYOOM] • sonic’s voice sounds... really weird, is that what jaleel white sounds like when he isn’t trying to sound all nasally and shit? also he burps and it’s gross • god the movement in this scene is very janky in general • sonia starts lecturing sonic but gets interrupted by a laser blast and manic pipes in like “can we talk about this later?” • sonia strong • is sonic just spilling lava everywhere??? • you’d think there’d be more sounds here • “am i good or what?” feels like it was pulled from satam? • “you’re insufferable” “thank you” • sonia’s voice is so shrill jesus christ • i feel like this is a pretty good confrontation of how sonic not working as a team with the other two can cause pretty significant problems • sonia i don’t think robotnik would throw you in prison, that’s what the roboticizer is for and i don’t think he’d keep y’all separate from that • cyrus does a weird double take and i think it’s an animation error • this cyrus kid is pretty sus- who is this hippie dude- • CYRUS SUS CYRUS SUS • there was deadass just a normal animal bird with some kind of accessory on its neck as a background character • damn it cyrus • SONG TIME??? • apparently no • once again manic and sonia are tied up which lasts 2 seconds • aosth slow-mo beam, purple flavor • what are these background characters they’re so ugly • OH NO I REMEMBER WHAT SANCTUARY IS NOW • children... i’d love to see the tiny babes but they’re undoubtedly ugly as fuck • ROBOTNIK WANTS TO MURDER CHILDREN • one of the kids looks like reptar • SONG TIME NOW • why is this so. idk, whimsical? idk how to describe this but i already don’t like it • they forgot to draw manic’s head quills in a shot • why is cyrus looking so pissed at these children • sounds like a weird off brand christmas song. don’t like it very much but i guess it isn’t bad. maybe a 2/10 • sdnjksg assaulting your siblings with a cloud of flour sounds fun if not wasteful but still, manic seems to be enjoying his little tech demo • sonia says “this place is gross” and manic goes “hey, you’re talking about my childhood home” and i think it’s a good thing that the show didn’t just forget where they all came from and how this can create very minor conflict between them? like manic and sonia seem to slight each other rather frequently when it comes to sonia’s attitude towards dirty places and manic finding it comfortable there due to familiarity even if it wasn’t all that good. i can relate to that • sonic walks off the right side of the screen after refusing some goggles then. pops up and puts on the shades again? i don’t get it • oh my god sonic knocks cyrus (and manic by extension) over and they literally just. rotate the asset in place and leave them planking. there wasn’t a water splash or change of pose or anything • how does sonic zoom past a swat bot looking directly at him without triggering any alarms? why didn’t it notice him • why are there so many regretful traitors on this show • how does sonic not notice the clearly a hologram man in front of him • god the animation in this episode in general is abyssmal • ah jeez manic and sonia have been captured again • “attention sonic hedgehog” • OH NO CYRUS’ DAD but the expression he made in response to seeing him roboticized killed it

“After my parents died, I…kind of went off the rails for a while. I dropped out of Cal Tech. I lived underground, basically. But I kept teaching myself code. It was like the one thing that kept me together. Of course, my skills got me put on a list. Of people who could potentially do very bad things,” Penelope explained.

“So they offered you a job?” Spencer asked, “Like Frank Abagnale. The Bureau figured if you can’t beat ‘em, hire ‘em.”

“Yeah, something like that.”

“Garcia, what’s on the encrypted file?” Morgan asked.

“I’m required to keep a record of everything the team does. And after my system got hacked and Elle got shot, I just didn’t want anyone else to be able to get at you.”

“I’ll talk to the doctor, see if he’ll clear you to leave,” Spencer said and left the room.

Gwen went with Derek and Penelope, but not before doing her usual ‘goodnight’ with Spencer. Of course Penelope teased her all the way back to the apartment.

There was a police officer stationed out front. “Hi. I’m Mike Fleming. I’m on till midnight. Officer Cranbeck will be here after that, okay?”

“Thank you,” Penelope told him.

“You’re welcome.”

Morgan led her to the entrance of the courtyard. “Come on, let’s get you inside.”

Penelope stopped to look at the bloodstain on the steps.

“Come on. It washes off. I promise,” he reassured her.

They entered Penelope’s apartment and Morgan looked around and laughed. “I, umm…I would expect nothing less.”

Penelope laughed. “You should be flattered. Not many people are invited in off the grid.”

Morgan spotted a film player on an end table. “Super-8?”

“Yeah.” Penelope walked over to it and turned it on. A film of a younger Penelope started playing. “I always imagined myself fighting crime. My parents were hippies. I think it horrified them.”

“Now why does that not surprise me?” Gwen teased.

“How old were you when you lost them?” Morgan asked.

“18. Drunk driver.” Penelope turned off the projector.

Morgan picked up a piece of paper and examined it.

“I volunteer once a week to counsel family members of murder victims.”

“Baby, you don’t get enough of this stuff at work?”

“I look at those crime scene photos all day long. I can’t know that those families are out there trying to cope and not do something to help.”

Gwen rubbed Penelope’s back and said, “You’re a good woman, Penelope Garcia. Far too precious for this world.”

“Thanks.”

“You do know it was stupid to encrypt that file?” Morgan asked her.

“Yes, I know. Old habits, I guess.”

“You need some rest. You both do.”

“You’re right.” Penelope hugged Morgan. “Go. Be free, my love.”

“Hey, I’m not going anywhere.”

“I’m fine. I got my goon squad parked out front and a badass witch on my side.”

Gwen giggled at the comment.

“Goon squad or no goon squad, that couch right there is gonna be my best friend until we find this guy. Now leave it alone.”

“Okay.”

Penelope looped her arm around Gwen’s and started to head to her bedroom. “But if you’re thinking of trying to take advantage of me, let me call my doctor so he can revive me afterward.”

They both laughed.

“What about me?” Gwen asked.

“You’re hot, Sabrina. But I know a certain doctor would beat my ass if I tried anything with you.”

Gwen blushed furiously as Penelope pulled her into the bedroom.

They woke up to gunshots.

“Garcia!” Morgan yelled, running into the bedroom.

“What’s going on?” Penelope asked.

“Stay right there. Stay there!” Morgan looked out the window and then walked over to the two women. “Come here. Come with me.” He dragged them both into the corner. “Get in the corner. Get in the corner. Gwen, your gun.”

Gwen pulled out her gun.

“Were you sleeping with that?” Penelope asked.

“Downside of having an FBI agent for a father.”

“If somebody walks through that door, you shoot okay? Shoot first, then ask questions,” Morgan told her.

“I got it Derek!”

Morgan walked out the door and fired a shot.

“Morgan!” Penelope yelled.

“Stay there!”

They heard Morgan running down the stairs.

“It’s okay, Penelope. I’m not gonna let anything happen to you.” “But what if something happens to you?”

“Don’t worry about me.”

There was movement in the doorway and Gwen cocked her gun.

“Rossi. Rossi. Woah. Woah. Don’t shoot. Don’t shoot.”

Gwen lowered her gun. “Call me Rossi again and I will you shoot you.”

Penelope ran into Morgan’s arms crying as they heard sirens in the distance. “Why is this happening to me?”

“I don’t know. I don’t know.”

The ambulance arrived and the BAU team followed shortly after.

Spencer rushed to Gwen’s side. “Are you okay?”

“I’m fine, Spencer. Really.”

“I should have never left you alone.”

“Okay, first off, I can take care of myself and second, I wasn’t alone. Morgan was here.”

“Thank god he was.” Spencer sat down once he was convinced that Gwen was unharmed.

“What’s going on?” JJ asked, walking up to Penelope.

“I don’t know. This guy’s gettin’ seriously bold and I can guarantee it’s not over.”

“You okay?”

“I don’t know what he wants from me,” Penelope said.

“Could you know something about him?” Spencer asked.

“I don’t know.”

“Maybe you have something he wants?”

“I don’t know who he is. I’m so scared.”

“I know,” JJ told her.

Rossi, Hotch, and Emily came into the apartment.

Rossi looked at his daughter, who nodded. She wasn’t hurt, so there was no need to fuss over her.

“Hey, did you get a look at him?” Emily asked Morgan.

“Nothing solid.”

“Garcia, we need to get you back to the hospital,” Hotch told her.

“No,” Penelope said.

“You know what? You should still be there. We need her someplace safe,” JJ agreed.

“I feel safe with all of you.”

“We can take you to the BAU.”

Penelope nodded, staring off into space.

“Garcia?” JJ asked.

“You okay?” Spencer asked her.

“When we were at dinner… They wanted to seat us by a window, but he insisted on sitting at the worst table in the place. And he sat with his back to the corner.”

A couple of detectives walked in, talking quietly.

Hotch turned to them. “Detective, can you clear the room for just a minute?”

“I got a dead cop downstairs. I consider this part of the crime scene.”

“I know. Just a couple of minutes.”

“Do what you gotta do.”

“Thank you.”

The detectives left the apartment.

“Tell us about the car,” Spencer told Penelope.

“Why?”

“Just go with him,” Morgan said.

“You said it was white, 4-door, American. What else?” Spencer asked.

“That’s it. It was just a car.”

“No, come on, think. Anything. Go back,” Morgan told her.

“The seat belt was buckled behind his back.”

A look dawned on everyone’s face.

“Why does that matter?” Penelope asked.

“It wasn’t a rental. It was for surveillance,” Morgan explained.

“Agents don’t wear seat belts. They need to get out in a hurry.”

“All right, let’s cut the crap,” Rossi said, storming over to Penelope.

Gwen knew what was about to happen.

He sat down across from Penelope. “You need to be straight with us. Right now.”

Penelope looked over at JJ for help

. “Look at me, not them.”

“I’m not hiding anything,” Penelope told him.

“You got shot. Most people get shot for a reason.”

Penelope looked at Morgan.

“Eyes here!” Rossi yelled.

“Ease up, Rossi,” Morgan said.

“Derek, he knows what he’s doing,” Gwen reassured him.

“You got a roomful of people here willing to believe that an FBI agent is trying to kill you. We need to know everything you do on company time that we don’t know about. Come on. Spit it out!”

“It’s nothing bad! It’s just…I counsel victim’s families and they know where I work, so sometimes they ask me to look into cases for them.”

“What does that mean?”

“It just means that the cases, the unsolved ones, I tag them, so whoever’s investigating them knows that the FBI considers them a priority.”

“You’re not authorized to do that,” Hotch told her.

“I know. I was just trying to help.”

“But whoever’s working those cases thinks you’re watching them,” Emily explained.

“I just wanted to put pressure on them so that they don’t slide.”

“How many cases are we talking about?” Hotch asked.

“I don’t know. 7, 8 maybe. I need to get into my system.”

“You can’t. You’re suspended.”

“Wait a minute, Garcia. On your date, you said this guy was pressing you to find out if you were working murder cases,” Morgan said.

Penelope nodded.

“Hotch, we gotta look at those files.”

Hotch sighed and looked at Rossi.

“I told you, I’m sick of this jagoff being in front of us.”

“Dave’s right. We’ll go back to the BAU. Morgan, Reid, Prentiss, Gwen, you stay here and make sure no forgets to log out of the system. Garcia should not have access,” Hotch told them.

“Understood,” Morgan said.

Gwen shared a smirk with her father.
