I saw your bit on Marc and masks and I agree that there's definitely something to Marc using his costume as a means of grounding! Spoilers for #11, but in this week's issue he ditches the cape for a while and almost immediately gives into his more negative impulses irt violence! And then he takes back the cape and immediately turns to faith as a solution to the next dilemma and I'm just having Big Vague Thoughts about it
Oh my godddd I read the issue and I didn't even think of that, that's genius.
I hope they explore that. I know we've already seen him talk about using Mr. Knight to feel human and valued because he hates himself as Marc, but if they just talked about him using the mask, the whole costume, the Knight aspect of his life, to ground himself as a person, to feel worthy of being good, I would love that so much.

yooooo! About the Poe/ Deaf Desmond au. Imagine him getting sent back to Altairs time like that, and the assassins are like “???” Till Altair asks the Apple what Desmonds deal is and it shows him. Cue Altair trying to figure out how to kill a man who doesn’t exist yet
Since this is deaf!Desmond and we’re going for my interpretation of the limitation of the curse (instead of @twitcherpated's which has a, frankly, much more deliciously angst-filled criteria) then this means that Desmond gets sent to Altaïr’s time by the time he had lifted his curse by accidentally making himself deaf.
In this scenario, Desmond would mostly rely on written words to talk to anyone and he is actually deliberately not trying to learn how to read lips in the off-chance that reading lips would activate his curse.
So when the Apple tells Altaïr the truth about him, Desmond freezes for a moment because he had never thought of the Apple being able to circumvent one of the orders he still can’t go against with:
Do not tell anyone.
Even when he wanted to tell Altaïr. Even as his chest hurt and his breathing grew shallower and shallower, he had wanted to tell Altaïr so many times before but he always stopped because he feared that he would breathe his last.
And he didn’t want to die.
Not when he was free here, far away from William Miles and the Brotherhood he had kept together and ‘fixed’.
He could not be an Assassin anymore, it was too dangerous for someone who cannot hear to be an Assassin.
But everyone was kind to him here in Masyaf... even if Desmond knew many of them were only kind to him because...
Altaïr…
Altaïr was here and he accepted him even though they both knew Desmond was hiding something.
He had thought that peace was finally over, that it would shatter like glass and crumble like dust now that Altaïr knew the truth.
So when Altaïr held him tight instead, Desmond could do nothing but let the tears fall from his eyes.
Because he could feel Altaïr’s warmth…
… could feel the slight trembling of his arms as he held Desmond tightly.
And Desmond…
Desmond returned his embrace as tight as he could.
Because even if he could not hear Altaïr’s voice… Even if he could not hear the words he spoke…
He knew him enough to know the words he wished to tell Desmond.
And that…
That was enough.

So I'm finally reading If You Give A Bat a Burger and it reminded me of another fic and I can't tell if was a crossover or not...
Danny (or maybe Tim?) goes to the Iceberg Lounge to steal something from Cobblepot, knocks out a waiter, steals their uniform, and manages to escape but gets noticed and, funnily enough, is told to take the trash out as he leaves. He does so, and later, Batman (and possibly a Robin?) finds him in a dumpster, where the stolen thing was hidden, and he makes some BS story about looking for a ring that belonged to his father.
Think it might've been Tim as Stray or Red X, but my brain keeps saying Danny...
Update!!!!!!!! It's definitely Tim. @proshipper-on-ship found it for me!!! Aren't they awesome???
It's Take It Back Now Y'all by TimTheToaster (tabletoptime), which, for the record, is one of my all-time favorite time travel fics. (Which also goes to show how shitty my memory is. The second I looked at the title, I knew it was the fic, but remembering the scene in detail didn't clue me in to where I knew it from.)

He's expecting to be cast aside, just as he was in his own universe, but that doesn't happen.
Bruce finds a broken bird and takes him under his wing. Tim somehow finds a family, despite his worst fears.

Timothy Drake is a civilian, a normal boy. Kind of. He's normal in that he keeps secrets and has some hobbies. Those secrets and hobbies, though, are a little unique...and completely, 100% revolve around the crime-fighting family of Gotham.
A good friend of the Waynes, Tim finds himself dodging his heroes' attempts to reveal their identities to him in a misguided attempt to keep the status quo. No one seems to want to let it rest, unfortunately for Timothy Drake.

That is the beginning of an unlikely truce that turns into friendship that turns into little brother acquisition.

He opens his eyes, and stares up at the canopy of the four poster bed he's in. It takes a second, his vision is a bit blurry, but it clears up quick enough.
Two seconds.

Four seconds.
Part of Jason keeps the count going, while the rest of him kind of just...seizes. Because he knows this canopy. He knows the the posts it's attached to. He—fuck—he knows the notch in the bottom left post he'd put in it when he'd stolen one of Bruce's batarangs when he was twelve and thrown it around like the stupid kid he'd been.
This was Jason's room.
Or, the one where Jason get's zapped with magic, wakes up in his teenage body, and decides to let the timeline know exactly how fucked it is. He also becomes the president of the Tim Drake Appreciation Club.

Which would be a relief, except he looks exactly like Percy: same green eyes, same trouble making smile, same black hair. The only differences are the fact that Theo is six years older, covered in battle scars, and the black tattoo on his arm. A trident and the letters SPQR.
Theo is eighteen, powerful, and unclaimed. And his resemblance to Percy could set a dangerous precedent.

Sticks and Stones - I'm still really proud of this one. It turned out exactly the way I wanted, from the relationship dynamics to the depiction of abuse.
Blood of the Covenant - Really want to come back to this one someday. Tim and Cassie are so good together, guys, I love them so much.
The Stories Children Tell - I re-read this one as a comfort fic sometimes. I don't know where that voice came from but it's soothing.
Gossamer Bonds - My favorite of the Father of Heroes stories I've written so far. Again, want to come back to this one, but there's just so many stories I could do they get all jammed up in my head. @_@
Princess Debut - I'm mad at my brain for this one because this is clearly meant to be the first chapter of a larger story but the inspiration bunnies ONLY gave me the first chapter and a few scenes from the rest of the story, stringing them together has been a nightmare. But I do still love this fic.
Bonus one, not DC Comics:
The Ache for Home (Welcome to Night Vale) - I'm also mad at myself for this one because I LOST THE FRIGGING OUTLINE and now I only have vague memories of where I was going with it. It was going to be sad and scary and heartwarming though, dangit! If I went back to it at this point though I'd need to adjust some characterizations and I'm not caught up enough for that...
