Page 1. --- Winnipeg, Feb. 1 — Aided by dense fog, unusual for Winnipeg at this time of the year, armed bandits were active in the city early this morning and several holdups were reported. Poverty is unjust.
Tumblr media
Housing and Homelessness.
The poor are, not surprisingly, more likely to be homeless than the nonpoor but also more likely to live in dilapidated housing and unable to buy their own homes. Many poor families spend more than half their income on rent, and they tend to live in poor neighborhoods that lack job opportunities, good schools, and other features of modern life that wealthier people take for granted. The lack of adequate housing for the poor remains a major national problem. Even worse is outright homelessness. An estimated 1.6 million people, including more than 300,000 children, are homeless at least part of the year (Lee, et. al., 2010).
Key Takeaways
Poor people are more likely to have several kinds of family problems, including divorce and family conflict.
Poor people are more likely to have several kinds of health problems.
Children growing up in poverty are less likely to graduate high school or go to college, and they are more likely to commit street crime.

Coffee-scented kisses
Tim fell in love with a barista. At first he had wondered if it was simply a mistake, to transfer his love for coffee to the person who produced it, but slowly he realized it was a little more than that.
Danny, the new barista, didn't really criticize him when he ordered 8 coffees a day, as long as he was on shift. He also didn't ask him about his health insurance every time he ordered Death Wish, and even made sure to make small talk every time he delivered his coffee.
It had only been a few days since he was hired but Tim fell in love with his small talk, his care, and of course, his coffee.
Then, when Danny was suspected of working with Two Face he was heartbroken. The boy was probably innocent, but he couldn't get out of his head that nothing in Gotham was simple, everyone kept secrets, including himself. So he made up his mind to stay away from Danny, for his sake.
Danny, for his part, was Harvey Dent's assistant and a part-time barista, he just wanted to distract himself and Harvey was strangely sympathetic after telling him about running away from home. Kind of like a guy you stay with during the vacations, but more permanent.
The halfa started to worry when the cute boy from the cafe stopped coming, maybe he was in danger? Danny couldn't help but worry, but when his coworkers told him Tim was coming in on other shifts he wondered if the boy was avoiding him.

Hello everyone, I was attacked unprovoked on the Subway yesterday. I believe I was targeted because I was wearing my pride shirt work uniform I am also a bisexual woman with a very public presence on the internet and in the city as I am a performer at Ellen’s Stardust Diner in Times Square. I was beaten badly and taken to hospital by ambulance. It took two phone calls to 911 and an hour wait for police to arrive, so clearly my assailant got away. The cops also victim blamed me for the attack as if sitting quietly with your AirPods on is somehow not being vigilant enough at 3 o’clock in the afternoon on a busy subway car. But what else do we expect from the NYPD at this point. I have large bruises and giant swellings on the right side of my head, and it’s caused my vision to blur, my hearing is gone because my eardrum is filled with fluid and I am dizzy and nauseas all the time. Laying down is painful because of the contusions but sitting up is miserable too. Until my visions improves, my hearing returns and my bruises and swelling fade I don’t know when I’ll be able to return to work not even considering the fear of taking the subway now. More of what happened is explained in my fundraiser I’m linking. But I could use the help of the good folks on the internet. If you could donate and share or if you can’t donate please share. My husband is the organizer and can also answer any questions you have. Please boost my signal, I really need the help right now.

The site of Palestinian-American journalist Shireen Abu Akleh’s killing in Jenin has been bulldozed and her shrine desecrated, in an unexplained early-morning operation on 26 October.
Tumblr media
A surfaced road running between houses has been reduced to huge boulders of broken concrete, and earth dug to over half a meters depth. Vehicles passed up and down the lane. One day after, even walking amid the smashed rocks would be a challenge. The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) has joined its affiliate, the Palestinian Journalists' Syndicate (PJS) in condemning this act of vandalism and recalls on the International Criminal Court (ICC) to investigate the killing of Shireen Abu Akleh.
The road, Balat al-Shuhada’ Street, in the Jabriyat neighbourhood of Jenin is thought to have been ploughed up by heavy civil engineering vehicles at approximately 3 am on 27 October. Locals state that these were operated by members of the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF). Paintings of Abu Akleh, and tributes left on the spot where she was shot have beed destroyed.
Nasser Abu Bakr, PJS president said: “This is a monstrous act of destruction. Shireen’s family and friends have found some solace visiting the place where she was shot down, and placing tributes. This wanton act of vandalism is surely revenge for the report just issued by the UN that states that Israeli forces ‘wilfully or recklessly killed Abu Akleh’. It underlines the need for her case to the investigated by the International Criminal Court ICC, with which the IFJ has already lodged a complaint”.
IFJ General Secretary, Anthony Bellanger said: “I have visited this site myself and know firsthand how important it had become to those who mourn Shireen’s loss. It is hard to see this destruction as anything other than a cruel act of vengeance, of a kind that can only exacerbate tensions in Palestine. The sooner the ICC gives this case the attention it deserves, the better”.

Journalist Abed Alqadr Sabbah reports on the situation in Gaza City. English translation is provided by Instagram user slumki.
The situation in northern Gaza is very difficult, as if the war has started anew. There's a siege and invasion of the Shifa Hospital, with a number of martyrs and wounded in the hospital's courtyards. There's also a siege of the Carmel School and neighboring schools to the Shifa Hospital, including the American School.
Buildings at the Al-Ghafary intersection were targeted, with two buildings destroyed and a number of martyrs and wounded on the ground.
The problem with this situation is that there's no hospital currently able to receive these injuries and martyrs, especially with the invasion and neutralization of the Shifa Hospital. The nearest hospital, Al-Maamadani Hospital, has also been targeted before, and its capabilities are very limited.
We are witnessing a large displacement on the streets after this siege and attacks in the area of the Shifa Hospital, with shells, drones, and helicopters widely deployed. There is a significant displacement to areas in eastern Gaza currently.
