I AM SO FUCKING WEAK. FOR THE JASON AND STARFIRE FRIENDSHIP. YOU GUYS DON'T GET IT, GOSH-
Tall sunshine/Tall angry murder kitten
" someone will die'' " of FUN :DDDDD"
Girls who say brah/girls who say HIIIIII energy
Jason trying to give Kori the shovel talk for Dick (Not because he cares; But someone needs to be there to annoy, and unless the world's ending, he won't willingly interact with Tim) but. Godamn it.
Her eyes are so big. Like an overly grown puppy. He can't do it. "... Just. Y'know. Try not to set his heart on fire and eat it. " " I would NEVER :(((" " WELL DONT CRY-"
Jason pulls Dick aside when Kori visits the Wayne manor for the first time, corners him, whispers very lowly, " We're out of mustard. Go. Get. Some."
Literally Jason being protective of his 6'4 sister in law/bestie he'd marry if he knew Dick wouldn't throw a fit. He specifically says " Damian, I PROMISE YOU, if you do anything to scare her intentionally, milk will NEVER taste the same when I'm done with you"
it's an elephant being scared of a mouse situation, - Kory is the most nervous to meet Damian out of anyone and Jason's like, so who wants to share embarassing Damian stories
Jay and Kory calling eachother cutesy nicknames " hey babe" " greetings, sugar pie cherub starlight pumpkin seeds little lovebug, starshine! The universe says HELLO!"
Braiding Kory's hair is an Olympic sport and Jason has the gold medal for it
Kory talking everyone about Jason being her best friend; She's like, " sweetest, most caring human I've come across. He is friendly and we bump foreheads a lot" then shows off pictures
And boom, the scariest bastard you've ever seen . "He enjoys cuddling kittens, and watching animated movies with me :D"
Jason ranting about books and literature and Kory INTENTLY listening to every word while sipping sweet mustard; She loves trashy romance novels written by 30 something women who hate their marriage, and Jason's like " your taste is fucking dreadful" but he secretly enjoys it
Kory also LOVES cartoons and Jason makes fun of her for it ruthlessly (or as ruthless as he can get with her) but guess who steals Bruce's credit card and buys her merch????
" here you go baby girl, buy some steven galaxy shirts from that gay ass rock show or something " " you intentionally pretend to not know my interests to reduce the meaning of your affection, but i know it's there >:D"
JASON MEETING BLACKFIRE. " And I thought I was a problem child."
Literally give me Jason and Blackfire interactions but they're just this

Hullo, uh, for the ask mayhaps "I'm just glad you're okay" ... Sun-centic (*´ω`*) i am in-love with your Astral Bodies story 💖
I most certainly can do :) I'm glad you're enjoying Astral Bodies- here is a drabble that fits in the same universe. Thanks for the ask (I'mma big fan of your art!! <3)
"I'm just glad you're okay" Sun / Reader Words: 858
When you slam back into consciousness you are lying supine on the floor. Your legs are raised, resting on the slope of something hard and your skin goose-pimples where it meets cold, silky fabric.
You blink and above you Sun’s face crumples with relief.
“There you are, Starshine.” He says softly, as if you are some skittish wild animal he might somehow frighten away.
“Mmsunny-“ you slur, eyes squinting against the ceiling lights “m’head hurts.”
He lowers a palm to cover your eyes, ever so gently, and you watch his face as it disappears beneath the horizon of his hand. His fingers are cool and soft and you let out a blissful whimper as the aching in your head subsides.
“You took quite a tumble there, Starshine,” his voice is light as he smooths a thumb over your temple, “You had us very worried for a second.”
There is no reprimand there but you can’t help but cringe away from him, shrugging away from his touch like a burn. Your eyes dart up to him, still frozen with his arm outstretched. You move to drag your legs off his lap but-
He stops you.
It takes so little effort on his part, just a single motion. His arms reach out to grip your thighs firmly; that same kind of careful, certain pressure you’d use to hold a cat at the vet. You fight the animal urge to writhe and spit in embarrassment, a red hot flush rising up your neck- but you know he can see it all on your face anyway. Sun had always been very good at reading you.
“Don’t move yet.” He slides you forward until you’re back over his lap, ankles draped against his other arm. “You need to keep your legs elevated while you recover.”
You unclench your fingers where they’ve formed fists against the floor and he tilts his faceplate down to look at you, casting a shadow over his features. The low light lets his pupils dance like fireflies across your face. You shiver.
“I’m sorry Sun-“ you begin, shuffling your body like a caterpillar as you rise to rest your weight on your elbows. His smile ticks in frustration.
“Lie down, darling.”
You give him a long look, which he returns flatly. You know when you are beat. With a long suffering sigh you lower yourself back to the floor and you can feel something tightening behind your eyes. You take a deep breath-
“I mean it.” You swallow. “I’m sorry.”
Sun tuts lightly but doesn’t say anything. You shut your eyes.
“I mean it Sun. I knew I was in no state to practice today- but I…” you furrow a brow and bring your hands up to grip the sweaty mess of your hair, “…I was angry, and so sick of people telling me what to do and I feel like everything is falling apart and I just wanted to dance it out you know? I needed to. Stupid. I know. Such a stupid thing to get sick over. This whole thing is my fault I-”
He smooths a thumb over the flesh of your hamstring, shushing you gently. “Oh Starshine, it’s not-“
“No but it is Sun. It is and I’m sorry. I should have listened to you. I knew I wasn’t feeling 100% when I woke up today- I shouldn’t have pushed the boat out so far- and you told me- you all but begged me not to work myself too hard- but I was just-“ your voice quavers and you bury your face into your hands, vision swollen with little black spots that fade like drops of ink in water.
There is a rustle of fabric and in one dizzying shift you find yourself scooped up into his arms. His chassis is hard and soft at the same time- that always surprises you, the singularly unique feeling of silicone over steel. Your cheek is pressed against his chest and you can feel the low tick-tick-hummm of his internals vibrate against your skin. You hide your face against it.
“None of that now, sweetheart. None of that.” He tips his face forward to touch the crescent of his mouth to your temple. “No blame, no fault, no tears, none of that.”
His kindness only makes it worse. You need him to understand and you almost choke on the words as they bubble out your throat “-I’m sorry- I didn’t mean to frighten you, passing out like that- I didn’t think-”
He exhales a hiss of soft static against your hairline. “You will take better care of yourself next time won’t you?”
“I promise Sunny, I-”
He boops you on the nose.
“Then there is nothing to forgive, Starshine. I’m just glad you’re okay.”
It’s as if some invisible thread has been cut; all the tension rushes from your body and you feel yourself relax into his arms. You thread your fingers into the fabric at his neck.
“Sunny I…”
“Hmmm?” He hums at you, the sound muffled by your hair. His arm around your back twitches, just a little, just once.
You close your eyes.
“…Thank you.”

😨 Lost Horse! 🐎 PART 2 Deliveries.
Tumblr media
A Sabine x GN! Reader fanfic!
Tumblr media
Hi guys omg 😭😭😭 this was supposed to have been out yesterday but I took a nap and woke up way too late and didn’t do any editing 😭💔 I finished editing today though!!! Very late but still finished! 🙏🙏🙏😎😎😎 I wrote a lot again for this part 😔 trying to write as much as my silly brain wants to but also putting some restrictions on myself so I don’t get burnt out again 😭 I love writing so I have to be real careful 😔😔💔💔 anyways ty guys for ur patience! Enjoy! :D
Summary: You and Khaan make a delivery and he sees someone he recognizes.
Warnings: Foul language and an animal acting aggressively.
Tumblr media
You groaned as you felt your blanket be taken from you. It was 6 in the morning you were in bed trying to sleep. It was way too early to get up, and it was a Saturday you really wanted more time in bed. “Come on!” You heard your dad whisper yell “we have a lot to do today and the earlier we do it the faster we get it done.” Your dad was always up early, and he always made you get up early too. What did druids do that required them to get up so darn early? To make getting you up easier your father opened your window. Outside your window waited Khaan, and once your father opened it he put his head through. Your horse was already up before your father and he was ready to go. He was used to being up early due to the schedule the Dark Riders had. The Friesian felt around trying to find you. He couldn’t see due to his forelock covering his eyes. When he found you he sniffed you, nipping at your shirt trying to get you to get up. When you didn’t move Khaan grabbed a mouthful of your shirt, and he pulled you up. Being taken out of bed roughly completely woke you up. You went wide eyed “okay! Okay! I’m up!” You gasped when Khaan let go of your shirt, and you face-planted onto your pillow. Your father pat Khaan thanking him for waking you up. Two months had passed since you found him. His wounds healed, and you managed to keep his eyes a secret from everyone. The rangers never found his owner, and they stopped their search after a month had passed. You kept looking for a few weeks after the search was called off. You looked all around Jorvik for Khaan’s owner, but you never found anyone so Khaan belonged to you now. You didn’t know much about riding, but you slowly learned with Khaan. “Farah has some deliveries she needs help with” you sat up as your father spoke “I told her you would help her.” You now understood why your father woke you up so early “she’s awake and waiting for you now.” The man walked out of your room, and as he walked he said “get dressed and come grab breakfast.” You shook your head trying to shake off any leftover sleepiness. Khaan neighed backing away from your window. He was going to finish the rest of his breakfast before you both got to work.
Tumblr media
“Alright our first delivery is in… Starshine ranch” Starshine was about 10 or so minutes away from Valedale. You tightened Khaan’s girth, and then you lowered the stirrups. You had to buy a new saddle and pad, but you got to keep the bridle Khaan had when you found him. The bridle had minor cuts it was easily fixed by Farah. You were really happy when she told you it could be fixed. The design on the bridle was really cool, and you really wanted to keep it. You were glad you were able to, because now you rode with a cool gold and black, snake design bridle. Khaan let out a snort watching you get his fly mask. The mask didn’t allow anyone to see Khaan’s eyes, but it allowed him to see. “Ready?” You asked the Friesian. He responded with a whinny. Khaan stood still as you put the mask on him. Once the mask was on, you walked to his side checking the girth again before mounting. The Friesian was tall so getting on was sometimes a bit of a challenge. Today was thankfully easy for you. You clicked your tongue, and Khaan began walking. You rode through Valedale in a walk. When you were out of Valedale and in Hollow Woods you asked Khaan for a gallop. Galloping wasn’t super fun for you. Khaan ran very fast and the possibility of falling at this speed kept you on edge. Fear didn’t allow you to enjoy the ride. You only rode this fast for work though. The speed was great for deliveries which is why Farah continued to ask for you. You wondered if maybe Khaan was a race horse before you found him. He must have won a lot of races if he was. As he galloped through the woods you checked the list of deliveries you had for today. You had one for Starshine which you were going to now, one for Silverglade, and one for your dad. Your dad ordered incense which you dropped off first because you couldn't stand the smell and because you were already in Valedale. Your dad could stink up the house with the incense while you were gone. The scent he always ordered wasn’t your favorite. It was really strong it burned your nose. You tried to convince him to buy another scent like vanilla or lavender, but he always stuck with the same stinky one. Khaan neighed, and you looked up from your list seeing that you were near Firgrove now. Birds flew by and sunlight passed through gaps in leaves as you passed the trees. You felt like you were having a movie moment. A magical movie moment on a magical red-eyed horse. Maybe you already were in a movie without knowing. You could definitely write a book about your adventures with Khaan. You would make it fiction of course so no one would go crazy over your red-eyed horse. You and Khaan got to Starshine Ranch in 8 minutes. You were really early for the delivery. As you rode into the ranch you spoke to Khaan “we’re really early… I hope Josh is awake.” Josh was the guy you had to deliver the stuff to. “Maybe he’ll pay me more for being quick” Khaan huffed throwing his head back. You smiled patting his shoulder “sorry!” You began to correct yourself “maybe he’ll pay me more for how quick you were.” Khaan neighed again it was nice to receive credit where it was due “I’ll buy you as many fruit cups as you want for-.“ You paused when you saw that the person you were supposed to deliver to wasn’t in the spot he said he would be in. Shit… Now what? Should you just leave it on the floor and go? Or should you wait? You couldn’t wait you had to make the next delivery. You got off Khaan, and you looked around “hello?” You walked around the ranch with Khaan following close behind you. “Anyone awake?” You weren’t being very loud since you didn’t want to disturb anyone. “I have a delivery for this place!” You frowned when it looked like no one was going to answer your calls. You continued looking around the ranch. You had real bad luck with deliveries. First with the flyers Rowan had you make and now with this. While you looked around you spotted a house, its lights were on. You walked over to the home, and Khaan lowered his head sniffing the grass around it. You walked up the steps of the home going straight for the door.
Tumblr media
You gently knocked on it “hello? Is josh in there? I have a delivery for him!” The house was quiet for a few seconds and then you heard messy footsteps come your way. It sounded like whoever was inside was hopping on a pogo stick. The door opened and a red haired girl with an odd marking on her cheek and a boot in hand which you hoped wasn’t for throwing at you smiled at you “how can I help you?” She looked like she had just woken up. You quickly apologized “I’m so sorry for waking you” you felt bad. She definitely had all right to throw that boot at you for being annoying and waking her up. “Is Josh here? I have a delivery for him.” The girl balanced on one foot putting her boot on the other while she talked to you “he must be asleep right now but I’m his friend I can take it for him.” You smiled and thanked the girl for accepting the delivery. You were really glad you didn’t have to stay and wait for Josh. “I’ll get it its in my saddlebag” You walked down the steps of the home and to your horse. The Friesian was busy eating the grass around the home while you talked. When you came up to him he looked up wanting to see who was coming. In the blink of an eye everything went to shit. Khaan suddenly became aggressive. His aggression wasn’t directed towards you but to the girl who answered the door. He stormed past you knocking you down. You fell on your side gasping as pain rushed through one side of your body. Khaan rushed to the door of the home destroying the steps leading to it as he stomped his way to the girl. The girl quickly reacted, and she shut the door. Instead of slamming into her Khaan slammed into the door of her home. You quickly stood up horrified by how Khaan was acting. Your side was killing you, but you couldn’t stop to rest. You had to stop Khaan before he hurt himself or the girl. The Friesian continued to angrily slam against the door as you ran over to him. Who was the girl on the other side of the door? Why did Khaan react this way upon seeing her? You ran up what was left of the steps of the home, and you reached out for Khaan’s bridle. Your horse let out an angry neigh as you led him away from the door. You guided him down the ruined steps holding his reins tightly, so he wouldn’t rush to the door again. “I’m so sorry!” You yelled so the girl could hear you over Khaan’s angry neighing. “I will pay for the damages I am really, really sorry!” You were definitely going broke after this. The girl cracked open the door staring at you with wide eyes. “It’s fine!” She yelled back at you trying to push the fear in her voice back, so she could speak with a friendly tone. You were relieved that she didn’t want to kill you. At least it seemed like she didn’t want to. Khaan bucked, and he began trying to snap at the girl over your head. “The delivery is free! Please tell Josh not to worry about paying!” You managed to get it from your saddlebag before Khaan knocked you down. You also managed to keep it safe from the fall and from your angry horse. You set the delivery down on the ruined steps of the home. “Once again I am so, so sorry about Khaan!” The girl’s eyes got wider when you said the Friesian’s name. “I’ll come back later with my father to pay for the damages!” You hoped the girl would trust you enough to let you go. She just nodded not having anything to say to you. You quickly got on Khaan thanking Aideen when he listened to what you asked of him. He galloped out of the ranch throwing his head back and neighing loudly. As Khaan angrily galloped you sat in your saddle in shock. What the hell happened back there?! And how were you going to pay for it?
Tumblr media
The girl stood outside her home on her porch. She was looking at the destruction caused by the Friesian. She stood with her jaw open and her eyes wide. The steps of her home were completely ruined. Her door was barely hanging onto its hinges. A white horse with a blue mane rushed to her. She could see him from the corner of her eye. The horse spoke to her in a hushed voice “Lisa? What happened?” The girl looked to her horse trying to get rid of her look of shock. “A horse did this…” she narrowed her eyes “Khaan did this.” How did you have Khaan? Who were you? “Khaan?” The horse spoke his ears going back. “Sabine was here?” Lisa answered the question with a shake of her head “it was… It was Farah’s delivery person?” Lisa was extremely confused she needed answers. She turned looking inside her home seeing her father on the phone. The man was just as shaken up as she was. Lisa looked to her back pocket seeing her phone poking out “I need to call the others.”

Part 11
The feeling of kisses being pressed along my naked spine woke me. True to my word I had accompanied Erik to Denver when he signed the papers for the property. I was staying at his modest Denver home for four days before flying back to San Diego.
Grinder came out of the Eddie Read with no issues, in fact he was so fit he was beginning to get rambunctious in a way that had Dick considering what to do with him if he qualified for the Breeder’s Cup in the Pacific Classic. There were two full months between qualifying and actually racing in the Longines Classic.
But that was a problem for another day. Thick fingers slipped between my vaginal lips and I moaned into the mattress. EJ pushed two fingers inside me and down to probe my G spot while his thumb rubbed my clit. I came in record time as he laughed against my shoulder blades, his hand following my gyrating hips as I shook from the orgasm.
Mile high sunshine was starting to filter into the bedroom and I knew from experience it couldn’t be much past 5am.
Erik kneeled between my spread legs and he lifted my boneless body onto all fours by my hips. We both moaned as the head of his cock slid inside me. His pace was languid and lazy as he slid a hand between my breasts and lifted me up pressing my back against his chest.
I raised my arms and clasped them behind his head, pulling him down for a kiss. I liked any kind of sex with Erik, but I loved these relaxed mornings, lazy fucking and morning breath until we had our fill of orgasms and hunger sent us to the kitchen for breakfast. It was messy and wet and I made a mental note to get a generous gift card for his housekeeper.
He continued his lazy thrusts, his hand sliding down my body and across my lower stomach like he could feel his dick inside me. Continuing down, he swirled his middle finger around my clit and snapped his hips into mine. His voice was low in my ear, “I like it when you cum on my fingers, I love it when you cum on my cock.. You gonna cum for me, Peaches?”
I shivered at his breath on my earlobe and proceeded to shatter into a million pieces in his arms. Praise slipping from his lips, “That’s my good girl,” as he fucked me hard through my orgasm, chasing his own.
When I felt his cock twitch inside me, he buried his face into the crook of my neck as he groaned through his release.
The sun had long crested the horizon, bathing our kneeling naked bodies in golden light and I knew he looked like a god dipped in starshine.
He collapsed into a mattress that seriously felt like sleeping on a cloud, he twisted as he fell and I landed on top of him, his soft cock regretfully sliding out of me.
My muscles felt like warmed jello and I was putting more effort than should have been necessary into not drooling all over his smooth chest.
Within a few minutes he was snoring softly again and I watched the sun climb across the sky through the floor to ceiling east facing windows.
When relieving myself became more urgent than laying on top of 240lbs of prime Colorado beef, I tried to slip off of him as quietly as possible and ended up getting tangled in the sheet and falling off the bed in a heap.
Erik sat up, rubbing the sleep from his eyes, his hair tousled from sleep and my fingers. The sheet was still tucked around his body and I found myself staring at his well sculpted torso. I blinked when he spoke, “Peaches? What are you doing on the floor?”
I sighed and leaned into his hand as he stroked my hair, “trying not to wake you up,” I replied in defeat.
He glanced at the expensive watch on his wrist, “We need to get a move on anyway. We have an appointment to walk to the farm and sign documents at 9 before it gets too hot.”
With frustrating ease he got out of bed and picked me up off the floor in one motion. As the sheet unwrapped from his body I was left clutching it to my chest staring at his ass as he walked into the palacious bathroom.
His whole house was just like him, annoyingly practical while being exuberant. It was an older home in the established but monied neighborhood of Cherry Creek. It was a traditional style that had been updated from the dated granite and honey oak cabinets. A photo of Erik and his Grandmother from when he first purchased showed the mid nineties decor. It was now clean and masculine with large dark furniture.
I heard the shower start and I felt warmth start in my belly thinking about that thing EJ could do with the showerhead.
Two hours later, my hair was still damp and hanging around my face, I had a venti triple shot latte cradled in my hands and I was feeling less like a blob of hot jello and more like a human being.
Erik of course had a sensible SUV and he drove toward the Rocky Mountains, the houses getting larger and farther apart. Flat city streets turned into two lane highways and rolling hills. Eventually, we turned and wove our way through the foothills until we reached a small valley. The entrance to the farm was marked with giant stone pillars and a beautiful iron gate that was open. The long tree lined driveway bisected two large pastures.
A small band of quarter horse broodmares and their foals snorted at the strange vehicle and trotted around the irrigated grass, their tails held high.
The property was well maintained and dotted with large trees, both natural pines and trees that were planted when the place was developed.  The mountains rose steeply to the west.
I rolled down the window and the air just smelled like mountains, “What’s the elevation here?”
“Ummm..” Erik hesitated fingers, drumming on the steering wheel, “just over 6,000 feet I think? I’d have to check.”
It was a good 10 degrees cooler than Denver and I was regretting not bringing a jacket. We passed the breeding barn and I craned my neck trying to see inside. He chuckled and reached for my hand, “Peaches, you’ll get to see inside, I promise.”
The main barn was a massive structure in the Monitor style. There was a beautiful fountain in the front courtyard with a bronze rearing horse sculpture in the middle. There were ten stalls on either side with long forty foot runs coming out the back. The center of the barn had two clusters of 4 double sized stalls, with a tack room, wash stalls, and grooming cross ties.
Erik parked the SUV by the front entrance and I clambered out of the car and made my way inside the huge structure waving my hands in acknowledgment of whatever he was saying and not hearing a damn word. The stalls were huge 14x14 at least, with protruding European stall fronts that allowed even more room. The small Quarter Horses hung their heads over the fronts and I came to the conclusion I couldn’t have designed a better barn. Whoever built this place did so with the intent it was comfortable and functional for the horses.
Beyond the barn was a fully covered arena. It wasn’t the largest, but it was large enough for a full dressage court. It was attached to the barn with a covered walkway and textured rubber bricks for traction.
Erik caught up to me, “The realtor is just a few minutes late. What do you think?”
I leaned into him and sighed with contentment, “It’s perfect.”
When Erik disappeared into the office to sign papers I once again began to wander. I stopped in front of a sweet looking Palomino gelding, “You seem pretty content to live here, huh guy?”
He sighed and cocked a hind hoof to continue his morning nap.
“Can I help you?”
I turned toward the voice and there was a drug store box redhead whose Aquanet style would have made Dolly Parton jealous, “I’m sorry my… partner, just bought the place, he’s signing paperwork in the office.”
Her face changed and her southern accent became a lot more pronounced, “Hi there! I’m Peggy, my husband is Shane, he’s the trainer. Have you gotten a tour yet?”
“Just from the photos on the Internet I’m afraid.”
She scoffed, “Best way to get a tour is on horseback, you ride?”
“Just racehorses every day,” I answered with a smile.
“Think you can handle an old Quarter Horse,” she gestured to the sleeping Palomino behind me.
“I can’t remember the last time I rode something that didn’t want to kill me.”
She gestured to the pink halter by the door, “he’s my daughter’s horse. His name is Earl. Come on, I’ll give you an appropriate tour.”
20 minutes later, Earl was decked out head to toe in everything pink glitter and we were plodding next to Peggy on a fiery chestnut reiner. “How old is your daughter?”
She laughed, “10 and really loves pink in case you couldn’t tell.”
I sucked air through my teeth and nodded, “Yep. Thank goodness Earl doesn’t seem to think it’s an attack on his masculinity.”
“Earl here is the best babysitter I could have ever hoped to get.”
It became clear 5 minutes in that Peggy was a Talker with a capital T. But it wasn’t a hardship to listen to her as we rode the galloping track and she pointed out trail access points into the adjoining state park.
Suddenly, I could picture my life here and the vision was so clear I felt like I had been thrust five years into the future. Riding Grinder along these very trails, the pastures dotted with Thoroughbred mares and their foals. The main barn full of rehabbing horses and racetrack failures training for dressage and jumping or even out on these trails for endurance.
My phone trilled in my pocket with William Tell’s Overture and I dug it out of my pocket, “Hey Handsome.”
“Where did you disappear to?”
“Your tenant for the next few months offered me a tour.” Earl shook a rogue fly from his ear.
EJ gave a sigh, but I could hear his smile, “Are you on a horse?”
“Yes. His name is Earl.”
“You can’t keep Earl.”
“Of course I’m not keeping Earl. I’m not in the business of breaking little girls' hearts,” I scoffed.
Peggy turned her head and giggled into her hand and the chestnut mare she was on shook her mane.
“We’re on our way back.”
His voice was tinny on the other end, “Good. I don’t think Grinder would be happy if I went back to California without you.”
I rolled my eyes, “See you in a few.”
Peggy and I finished our impromptu horseback tour and I gave Earl a thorough grooming while Erik chatted with Peggy and Shane. I fished a tired peppermint out of my pocket when I returned him to his stall and the cellophane was almost impossible to peel off the sticky treat but he waited patiently.
I gave the golden gelding a pat and ruffled his forelock as he munched, his breath smelling like hay and mint. “Thanks for taking care of me today Big Man.”
Joining the small group I lifted Erik’s arm and slid underneath it. His shirt smelled like horse and sunshine with the faint hint of his laundry detergent. I got lost in my imagination looking around the barn thinking about where I was going to put my equipment, which stall would be Grinder’s, which of Erik’s broodmares I wanted to bring in first. Basically, building my business and the ERJ racing breeding operation in my head.
I got a hip in my side and EJ shook my shoulder realizing I wasn’t paying attention, “Did you like it?”
“Of course, it’s a beautiful property,” I replied nodding.
Pulling my phone out of my pocket, I took the case off and retrieved a sad and wrinkled business card that was pressed between the phone and the case, handing it to Peggy. “If your daughter ever becomes more interested in boys than horses, you give me a call and you can name your price for Earl.”
The redhead laughed as her husband growled, “She’s not dating until she’s 40.”
Erik just sighed, “I knew it.”
I gave him an elbow in the ribs, “Grinder will need a retirement buddy.”
We all shook hands and EJ pulled me toward the SUV, “I’m taking her home before she tries to buy all your horses.”
Peggy offered a wave as we got into the vehicle, “Y’all can come help Earl stretch his legs anytime!”
As we made our way down the beautiful driveway, I pulled one of EJ’s hands off the wheel and wove my fingers through his, giving a contented sigh.
He pressed his lips against my knuckles, “Are you going to buy every horse you fall in love with?”
I grinned and pulled my eyes from the stunning view flying by the window, “We can afford it.”
A small smile curled the corner of his lips and I enjoyed the Colorado Summer air as we headed back into town.
—————
Things started to fall into place as I stopped fighting with Erik, with myself, with the universe. I had decided to just let life take me where it wanted and if it all fell apart? Well I was certainly more wealthy than I had been, I had invested a lot of the money back into equipment to help me help more horses, I had Jesus and it would suck for awhile, but I would build everything back up again.
Grinder continued to train like a machine and we enjoyed our afternoons in the California sunshine.
I was sitting on him bareback as he grazed, just wearing a halter, the lead rope over his withers and dangling loose down his shoulder. My eyes were closed and I was meditating, breathing in and out to the count of his ripping and chewing of the grass.
To the shock of absolutely no one except myself, I found taking some time during my day to focus and center myself just for the sake of myself actually improved my work. Any lingering headaches soon completely disappeared.
EJ was fully on board with this new “Nell Takes Care of Herself” movement and regardless of time he was always pressing some sort of smoothie in my hand before I left the house in the mornings. I never asked what was in them because they were always palatable if not actually delicious and I didn’t want the illusion ruined knowing I was drinking raw blended chicken gizzards or something weird.
August on the Southern California Coast was absolutely gorgeous, foggy mornings gave way to mid afternoon sunshine and temps in the 80s. Erik was ramping up his training and come the end of the month, I knew he would be spending more of his time in Colorado than California.
My meditation fell apart as I began to worry about what was to come. We hadn’t talked about when I would be joining EJ in Colorado. Peggy and Shane had the property rented through December. But we had discussed bringing some of our horses earlier as they were only using a fraction of the stalls. They were looking for places close by and Peggy and I had a plan to keep their show stock on so they could utilize the covered arena in the winter. I was getting daily photos of Earl from her daughter Daisy and they almost always featured some sort of costume or hat. He really was the best babysitter.
Grinder snorted and shook his head bringing me back to the present. It was still midsummer and we had time. I pulled the big gelding’s head up from the grass and pointed him back to the barns, enjoying the feel of his large swinging walk.
My phone vibrated on my belt and seeing EJ’s dumb toothless face on my screen I swiped to answer it, “Hey, Grinder and I are just heading back to the barn.”
He cleared his throat, “Would you consider yourself a perfectionist?”
I felt my face scrunch, “Not really, but that’s a weird question.”
He hummed, “Ok what about a planner, would you consider yourself one of those?”
One of Grinder’s elegant black ears flicked back, listening to the conversation, “No more than anyone else? Erik, what’s up with the questions?”
I heard paper rustling in the background, “oh nothing I just found large, to scale drawings of all the barns with the names of horses in each stall, locations of your equipment, you even have a list of where each saddle is going to go in the tack room.”
My throat suddenly felt a little scratchy and I coughed, my voice a little high when I replied, “Um that is normal.”
“It’s not but ok, we can start making a plan after dinner, a lot of these mares I don’t want to haul out until after their breedings next season and we confirm they are in foal. Some I’d like to unload at auction.”
I sighed at having been caught, “Ok. I’ll be home in about an hour, do you want me to pick up dinner?”
Dishes clanked in the background, “Nah, Peaches, it’s lean protein and vegetables tonight.”
Wrinkling my nose, I made a mental note to pick up some Ben and Jerry’s on the way. I didn’t have to worry about being a professional athlete.
I felt better when I followed EJ’s diet with him, but at what cost?
When I got back to the Del Mar condo, pint of ice cream in my hand, he was in the kitchen cooking away, dish towel swung over his shoulder looking like he was the main course.
I tossed the dessert in the freezer and snagged the big man around the waist for a kiss. He gave me a pouty look, “I suppose you didn’t bring a pint for me.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” I said feigning innocence.
He just raised a brow, and we settled into our little slice of domesticity. I sat at the island going through emails, texts, and pouring over my schedule while he cooked.
After dinner, he spread the plans on the kitchen island,  “Shane and I have been talking, and I think they are going to move into that small house by the broodmare barn for the foreseeable future. We are going to have way more available stalls than we know what to do with for awhile and I don’t think having them on the property is a bad idea for a little extra income.”
I started erasing all the names I had written into the stalls, “I agree.”
EJ put an arm around my shoulders, his voice soft, “When do you want to move in?”
Frowning, I shifted in my chair. I had been expecting this conversation to happen at some point. “I don’t know. I mean there’s so much to do to get all the horses you want to winter out there ready. We have to buy blankets, order feed, bedding, we have to have guys on the ground ready for horses, we have to have guys here ready to pack up horses. There’s so much Erik.”
He kissed my temple, “It’s only August, Peaches, we have time.”
“I suppose you’re right,” I said, leaning into his kiss.
A large hand pulled the elastic out of my hair, “I am happy that you’re thinking about it though.” His voice dropped and the air became charged.
I offered a hum in response as his blunt fingers began to massage my scalp.
——
As August ticked by and we settled even more into a routine, even with EJ starting to spend more and more time in Colorado, to the point, I didn’t know what was going to happen when the season started. It would be questionable if he would even be available the day of the Breeder’s Cup, but first Grinder had to qualify.
The days marched toward Grinder’s first grade 1 stakes in his entire life and when race day arrived I was an odd mixture of nervous and confident.
Grinder’s story had spread among the race community and there was a feature article in that week’s Racing Forum about our weird little family. The horse no one wanted to take a chance on, the miracle worker, and the hockey player that was entranced by my witchy wiles.
Like all days on the California coast, this one dawned bright and perfect. After an early morning hack around the track property to stretch his muscles, I was banned from seeing Grinder before the race.
I sat in my truck in the parking lot, unsure of what to do with myself. I hadn’t booked any clients for the day, because I knew I wouldn’t be able to focus on them, and I was right. Erik had a handful of interviews to give and he left it up to me whether I was going to be tucked into his side like the dutiful girlfriend or throwing up in a trash can from nerves around the corner.
EJ climbed into the passenger seat without a word and handed me a large paper cup with a lid. I took the warm beverage gratefully and took a sip. I was expecting espresso mixed with milk and yummy syrup and I got something else entirely. He chuckled when I made a face.
“It’s herbal tea, Peaches. You don’t need anymore caffeine to tie your stomach in knots.”
I took another sip with a generous shrug because he was probably right.
Next, a breakfast burrito and a race program with a $100 bill tucked into it slid onto the center console of the truck.
My brow arched and I got a wiley grin in return.
“You had a smoothie at 5am. Eat the burrito and then we are going to play a little game.”
“I’m listening,” I replied before taking a bite of the egg-y, cheesy, potato-y goodness wrapped in a tortilla.
His grin got impressively wider, “There’s a handful of claiming races on tomorrow’s card, what you win handicapping with this $100 bill today, you will use to buy the horse of your choice tomorrow.”
I inhaled a piece of potato and started choking, “What?”
Erik gave me a slap on the back and I felt the piece of potato dislodge from my throat, “You need to be distracted and this will be a challenge, even for you.” He settled into the leather seat and reclined it, “better get crackin’ on that program, the cheapest claimer tomorrow is $7500 and the first post is in an hour.”
Staring at the $100 bill tucked into the program, I chewed thoughtfully. Turning $100 into enough to buy a horse with? How did he even get this idea?
Keeping the bill safely between the pages of the racing program I picked it up and thumbed to the first race.
An hour and a half later, Grinder was only occupying the furthest recesses of my mind as the horses of the first race flashed under the wire, in the exact order I picked them for the straight trifecta. I had just quadrupled my money.
EJ twisted his program in his hands and squinted at me from beneath the brim of his fashionable hat, “Should I call Gabe and just tell him I’m retiring now?”
I smacked him in the chest and disappeared to collect my winnings.
By the time The Pacific Classic was called to the post, I was up several thousand and I had put the whole kit and kaboodle on Grinder whose odds were reasonable at 10 to 1.
I had tucked the betting slip into my bra for safe keeping and idly wondered if it was still worth anything soaked in boob sweat. A large hand spanned the small of my back and I could feel the heat of the palm through the dress I had changed into. It was a simple jersey wrap around in a bright royal blue that matched the ERJ Racing silks. I had paired it with a suede heeled bootie and some hammered silver earrings and pendant. It was simple, it was elegant, and as always, it was machine washable.
EJ kissed my temple and my phone vibrated, it was a facetime from Carlos. I hadn’t apologized for my behavior and at this point I didn’t really know how. He wasn't speaking to me, but when I answered the facetime call, there was Grinder in all his glory, being saddled. Carlos kept the phone on him as they walked around the paddock and the call disconnected as the horses departed to the tunnel and made their way to the track.
“I see you’re still being stubborn and Carlos is still not talking to you.”
Grabbing his arm, I wrapped it around my middle, “ I don’t even know how to bring it up or what to say.”
I could hear the amusement in his voice, “Well I think you start with ‘I’m’ and end with ‘sorry’”
Heaving a sigh, I wondered if anyone would blame me for crushing his toes under the heel of my fashionable bootie this close to hockey season. “Thanks for the advice, smart ass.”
The horses started filing onto the track, nine gleaming thoroughbreds in various shades of red, brown, and grey. Then there was Grinder, marching across the dirt to the turf, his coat so shiny it almost looked like an oil slick. There were no bad vibes this time. These were good horses, real competition and somehow the big black gelding made them all look like scrawny mustangs gathered from the Nevada desert.
Large hands closed over mine and Erik pried my phone from my death grip before sliding it into his pocket, “Please try not to destroy anything with your hulk hands.”
Frowning, I looked at my hands, “They’re not hulk hands.”
“Peaches last time he raced and you held my hand I heard bones crack.”
There were 11 horses in the race, including Grinder. It was a decent field and I started to worry it was going to be too much. Too many horses, too much traffic, and if he did win, what about the Breeder’s cup where the field could be even larger?
The horses completed the post parade and started to warm up. I watched the horses, looking for weaknesses, lameness, anything that might give me peace of mind that my horse was the best. There was nothing. These were some of the best horses in the country and Grinder was amongst them.
Time stretched like a lazy cat and the warm up seemed to take forever, but all too soon the horses approached the gate and started to be loaded. Grinder had pulled the first post position and because of his running style, no one was a fan. Everyone wanted to be on the rail, to run the shortest race. That didn’t matter for Grinder, he was fit, he was a closer, but he could get caught in the mad rush. He could get bumped, or worse, stuck in traffic. I didn’t know what the ornery gelding would do if he was forced to run in the middle of the pack, Mikey and I had discussed it and we had both decided it was best to never find out.
Grinder was one of the first horses loaded, and I pressed the binoculars to my eyes watching his feet. They were flat on the ground and he stood like a statue while the rest of the horses were slotted into their spots. What was less than a minute stretched for eternity and finally the bell clanged and the gates opened. Grinder shot forth and I had to pull the lenses away from my eyes to blink before replacing them.
The big black horse was surging with the pack. He was on the rail and stretching to keep his nose in front of the competition. He broke fast and he was…. Leading?
“What the fuck?” Erik’s words spoke to both of us. I could tell from the body language both Mikey and the horse were surprised as well.
I let the small binoculars fall, resting in my hand against the wall of the owner’s box, “I mean, we wanted to keep him out of traffic. This is fine. As long as Mikey stays out of his way, this is fine.”
And shockingly it was. Mikey helped rate Grinder and the fractions were fast, but not otherworldly. The frontrunners in this race were decent but Grinder was faster and he held them off with ease.
Into the far turn, the field started to challenge him and every time a horse pulled alongside him, Grinder found another gear. The crowd roared as the big black horse headed for the finish, leading the field wire to wire.
I didn’t remember when I started screaming but I was still screaming when the rest of the field passed under the wire and Erik was spinning me around.
Time seemed stuck in fast forward as the ERJ Racing team took photos in the winner’s circle. There were interviews galore and my cheeks hurt from smiling so much. The whirlwind didn’t cease until the sun had long gone to bed and I was leaning on Grinder’s stall door with my elbows, watching the horse munch his evening hay.
A warm hand found the small of my back and Erik shouldered his way next to me, “he was spectacular.”
My cheeks hurt but I still couldn’t stop the smile, “yeah he is.”
“He’s spectacular because of you.” He nudged my shoulder with his.
“No, he was always spectacular. Just no one else saw it. No one else believed.”
EJ pulled me into his body and kissed my temple, “Come on Peaches, we got a big day of horse buying tomorrow and then I have to be in Colorado by Monday morning.”
And there it was, the kicker to my absolutely perfect day. September was starting and just as I felt I had gotten my footing in my new life, it was going to be changing again.

I'm posting the last I have fic I currently have written in the c!Kestin timeline, more might come later but I'm not sure. I don't really have any TWs other than HABIT being in this fic, and c!Kestin is slightly spiraling.
Life's better now, I'm happier, and things are actually normal. I don't know how I'm alive though, but I guess that doesn't really matter. I'm here now, somehow I ended up in New Jersey. I sit up from my bed and stretch a bit letting out a groan. I'm not a morning person. I get out of bed and make my way over to the bedroom door, I open it and am face to face with my boyfriend(s). I jumped a bit, not out of fear or anything, I just didn't expect it.
"Morning starshine, the earth says hello!" Habit greets me, or at least I think it's Habit. I smile at him as he gets out of the way so I can pass through the doorway. "Good morning, who am I talking to right now though? Sorry it's just really early." I ask as he rubs his chin, "first of all, it's 11 am, that's not early. Secondly, you gotta guess. If you get it right, you get a kiss." He chuckled and looked at me with a smirk. I sighed and looked back at him, he likes playing games even when I'm tired. "I'm gonna say... Habit, mainly because of how you greeted me, and how you're looking at me." I didn't add the fact that Habit always makes me guess, while Evan just tells me upfront who he is.
"Ding-ding-ding, bullseye! Good job, sweet pea! You want that kiss now or later?" He leans his face a bit into mine, waiting for confirmation before he does anything, so I just lean in the rest of the way and give him a peck on the lips. "I'll take that as a 'now' then." We both laugh as he leans back and starts walking to the kitchen, I follow behind him. "So, any big plans for today?" He asked as I sat down at the table, he placed a cup of coffee in front of me, it's made just how I like it. In his words 'overwhelming sweet with a shit ton of creamer.' But no matter how much he critiques, he always makes it the same. I really love that about him.
"Well, Evan and I are going to go walk around downtown, maybe stop by some new stores, and then we're going to go walk a few trails!" I described our day in detail, mainly because I've been looking forward to it all week. I always love spending time with Evan and Habit, even if I can only talk to one of them at once; I always know that the other is listening. It feels nice. "Right, I forgot about your little date today." He replied, I doubt he actually forgot, he's just teasing. "Yeah, so I'm gonna need Evan back, hun." I retorted, smiling sweetly at him. "Yeah, yeah, I know. I just wanted to see my pretty boy first." He grinned as leaned over and kissed my cheek. I can't lie, I love it so much when he calls me his, well anything. I just like knowing that I'm his.
"Well, it's good to see you too, but Evan and I need to get going. I love you." I beamed and kissed his cheek. "Fine, fine." He sighed and basically just flung Evan back into control. Evan does a little stretch and smiles at me. "Morning, are you ready to go?" Evan wastes no time to get going, in case a certain demon with a BAD HABIT  of interrupting chooses to butt in. We get into the car and drive downtown, chatting about random topics ranging from new video games we want to play, to talking about ideas for stories, to even stories of the past.
We stopped by a few stores, the first was a beautiful antique store. We bought a few things, I got an old looking typewriter and a few stuffed animals; Evan grabbed an adorable tea set and a gorgeous jewelry box. Next we went to a vintage record store, mainly at Habits request; and a bargaining chip to get him to leave Evan alone for a little while. Finally, we went to the trails and hiked for a while, although I couldn't shake the feeling that we were being watched, but I kept it to myself.
I must have been spacing out while walking because I felt Evan nudge me a little, I looked over at him."Did you hear what I said?" Evan asked as I stared for a second. "Oh, no, I'm sorry. I think I zoned out for a second." I admitted that I hadn't been paying attention, he nodded. "It's fine, I just asked if you wanted to head home after this trail." He repeated himself, being patient with his boyfriend, like he normally is. "Oh, yeah. That'd probably be a good idea. We most likely don't wanna be out when it gets dark, I don't need to deal with ghosts and stuff." I stated, which was true; I don't want to deal with any supernatural forces. Well, other than Habit. Life is normal now and I don't want that to change.
We finished the trail, Evan had to just give me a piggyback ride to the car because my back hurt. He didn't seem to mind though. He was rambling on about Bioshock and I was about half listening, mainly because my mind started to wander to other places. The past. Both Evan and Habit know that I have an issue of reminiscing on time long gone and that sometimes it makes me kind of spiral. But it's not going to be like that this time, things are normal. I am better.
Before I even seem to realize it, Evan is pulling into the driveway. I lift my head from the passenger seat window and stretch my back a bit. We get out and Evan walks me to the door. "I've got to pick up my sister and drive her to her friend's house, but I'll be back. Are you going to be alright by yourself?" Evan asks, he seems a little worried. He probably noticed that my mind had been drifting quite a bit. "Yeah, I'll be fine. I'm just tired from talking almost all day." It wasn't entirely a lie, I was tired from today. But, I think we could tell that wasn't the whole truth. "Well, okay. But if you need anything, and I mean it when I say anything. Whether it be a hug, some food or to help you beat a video game. Just call and I'll be over as fast as I can." Evan finished his spiel, I smiled. He always seems to have a way of making me feel less tense. "I know, and thank you. It really means a lot." I kissed him on the cheek and he did the same. I watched him pull out of the driveway and waved goodbye before I entered the house.
I head upstairs and plop onto our shared bed, pulling out my phone and just scrolling on a random app. I do that for about 30 minutes before I see on my timeline, an 'on this day, 18 years ago.' A picture of me.... and Brian. I felt a small ping in my chest, a reminder of how much I miss him, not just him but my old life too. I stare at the photo for what seems like forever, my mind running through old memories, good and bad. But before I could let myself spiral I put my phone down and exited the app.
I'm better now, I can't let myself get dragged down by the past. I sit up in bed, knowing damn well it'll do me no good moping and burying my face in the pillow, just hoping for something that's never going to return. I get up and walk down to the kitchen, grabbing a glass from the cabinet. I walk over to the fridge and dispense some water, taking a mouthful before I pop an ibuprofen in my mouth and swallow. I walk over to the counter and stand there for a little while. Then I heard a noise behind me, I assume it's either Evan or Habit, so I turned around with a smile; but what I saw quickly wiped the smile off of my face and the glass out of my hand.
It was Brian, or I guess more accurately Hoodie. He's looking down at me as I stare back at him, too stunned to speak. But I was quickly pulled from my trance when the glass cup that was in my hand shattered on the floor. I looked down, almost in a panic; though I swiftly recovered. Opening my mouth to speak, although it took a few minutes for my thoughts to fully process into words. "Brian? Is that really you?" I sounded almost hopeful, so astonished that he might actually be in front of me. We stood in silence for a few moments before he finally said something.
"Yeah, it's me." I couldn't get a good reading on how he was feeling but I did notice a slight shake in his voice. I stepped forward, over the broken glass. "I... I'm happy to see you again.." I just barely mumbled, but I'm pretty sure he heard me. We stood in silence again. "I'm also sorry for how things ended. I'm sorry for what you had to see and that you had to find me, I mean.. I assume it was you..? Either that or it was him.." I rambled a bit trying to break the awkward tension. "Before you ask, no, I don't know how I'm alive or why." I added in. I just want him to talk, say anything.
Suddenly, he opened his arms. I just let myself fall into them. We had our arms wrapped around one another. "I missed you, like, a lot." I just blurt into his chest. "I missed you too. It's good to see you too, even though I was shocked." Brian rubbed my back like he did all those years ago, I felt tears well up in my eyes. "I'm still so sorry for leaving like I did." I spouted, he stopped what he was doing and put his hands on my shoulders. "Hey, No. Don't apologize. It wasn't your fault, you were hurting and you took the only way out that you saw. And I'm not going to get mad at you for it. All that matters is that you are here and you are happy. You are happy, right?" He ranted a bit but still checked on me.
"Yes, I'm very happy." I smile at Brian. He lifts up his mask and takes it off. He's smiling too. That same goofy gapped tooth smile that I remember. My heart felt warm, it's been years and yet he can still make me grin like an idiot. "I also saw that you have a new boyfriend." He teased me, poking my cheek. "Yeah, I do. Well, technically I have two new boyfriends." I retorted as he raised an eyebrow. "Two?" He asked with a slight smirk. "Yes, two, by technicality. The guy you saw is possessed by a demon whom I am also dating." I explained as I saw Brian rubbing his chin. "Damn, I guess you'd call that..." He paused, I looked at him. "Brian, don't you dare!" I exclaimed as he chuckled. "A two for one deal." I groaned as he laughed at his own joke.
"I see some things just never change. But that's good, I like you goofy." I hugged him again and he returned it. Things are good, they can finally really be normal. I finally have my reunion with my beloved brother.

[Amber’s costume that I decided for her to wear is "Ai Enma" from Hell Girl a japanese anime series.<-Yes I did, in fact watch the full series about a girl from hell. It's amazing episode,I truly believe this theme is the right choice on halloween.
Johnathan/John for short, the costume that he's wearing tonight as a "Werewolf".James in his teenage life had always loved to watch terrifying movies. Since his friends begged him to join the activity on nightmare night. He eventually picked out his favorite character "Candyman".]
🦇💀Let the nightmare night begin! 🎃🕷

Tumblr media
*The group settdown at their spot, john begin to have a conversation with steven. The two stallions talk it out about nightmare night, while amber is eating her gingerman pumpkin flavor cookie.*
John: Steven are you enjoying nightmare night?* He nodding his head up and down while answering johns question*

"I'm scared." (Okay I know it wasn't an option but like. I really need it. So can I have like Ruhn and Bryce? Either baby Bryce and her big brother. Or like... Something semi canon?)
I have broken my own heart.
Lightning streaked across the sky, and if she squinted hard enough Bryce could imagine she was bathing in the strobes of the White Raven again, the thunder a beating bass in her stomach. But the in-between was too silent, and she pulled the fluffy comforter tighter around her. As if that would somehow keep her from breaking apart. It was an embrace, surprisingly warm, and the foggy film of her memories began to play behind her eyes.
“Ruhn?” Bryce whispered, her tiny whimpers hiccuping in her chest. The lightning flashed again and she gasped, dropping the stuffed animal that she had been gripping in favor of slapping her hands over her sensitive ears. Thunder cracked, and she tried to be brave. She tried so hard. She wanted to be big and tough like her brother, but the rumbling thunder was an earthquake under her feet and rattled the window panes.
The lightning wouldn’t stop, lighting up the room in a pale blue flickering glow. The BOOM would come again soon. She wanted to wake him up, but she couldn’t uncover her ears. It was too much, and the next explosion of thunder dropped her to her knees with a squeak. Bryce screwed her eyes shut, folding herself as tightly as she could.
She felt something big hook her under her arms, and then she was flying. When her eyes shot open they met Ruhn’s dark, sleepy gaze. But he still gave her a lazy half-grin before setting her down in his lap.
“What are you doing in here, Starshine?” Bryce wiped furiously at her tear-stained cheeks, determined to be brave like the colossal male that held her so gently. She avoided looking up at him as long as she could, but a tug on her braid pulled her face back. “Bryce?” His meaningful look broke the small amount of stubbornness she had been holding onto.
“I’m scared,” she whimpered, just as thunder cracked, and she buried her face into his stomach. His muscles twitched against her cheek as he huffed and drew her upward, cradling her against his shoulder as he climbed out of bed. When she noticed he was heading toward the window she squirmed in his grasp, hiding her face against his neck.
“Sometimes, when I’m scared, I try to learn about the thing that makes me afraid,” he murmured, the words vibrating against her brow. She felt his fingers toying with her braid, smoothing the flyaway strands. “Then, the next time, I’m less scared. Do you think you can be brave and watch the lighting with me?” Another gentle tug on her hair. Bryce didn’t look at her brother, but she took a deep breath and nodded. Her eyes were shut so tightly that she didn’t realize when they’d stopped moving.
“Look, Starshine. It’s pretty, I promise.”
Thunder rumbled, and her grip tightened around his neck. But she slowly lifted her head and looked out the window. When her body had unfolded fully, Ruhn kissed her cheek, and she giggled as she watched the rivers of light paint the sky.
“You know what all that rumbling is, right?” He asked, and she turned her head to him in confusion. “Well you see, brave little Bryce, the gods really like bowling. And they can’t be bothered to worry about how much of a ruckus it causes down here. That’s why it’s so loud. They’re very noisy.” Her golden eyes widened.
“Really?” she breathed. Though she really couldn’t blame the gods. She quite liked bowling, too, even if she had to use the bumpers.
“Yes, ma’am. And they almost always get strikes. And every time they do, they high-five each other. And they’re so strong and have so much power that lightning bursts from between their palms,” Ruhn explained, and the little redhead gazed out the window in wonder.
“I got a strike the last time I went bowling. Would anything happen if we high-fived?” Bryce bit her lip, hoping beyond hope that it would.
“Well, little Starshine, why don’t we find out?” Ruhn lifted his hand, and when her tiny palm slapped against his he conjured what little starlight he could muster. The little half-human squealed in delight, a bright smile revealing three missing teeth. Her big brother kissed her forehead and then leaned in. “So you see, it’s not really that scary, huh?” She shook her head hard enough that her braid whipped from side to side. They continued watching as the lightning flashed less often and the thunder grew quiet, until Bryce’s lids began to droop and she let out a big yawn.
“Come on, little lady. Let’s get you to bed.”
Bryce’s eyes watered, the memory flowing down over her golden cheeks. That had been so long ago. So far away. How much time had she wasted hating him? And how was it fair that she had only just gotten the chance to know him again, as the honorable male he truly was? And now here she was, in a world she did not know or understand. Not knowing what was happening to her mate and her brother but fearing the worst, her nightmares often conjuring more terrible things than she thought she could ever imagine.
She leaned her head against the window, the cool glass a balm against the heat of her grief. The raindrops dripped down over the panes, tiny crystals in the lightning-illuminated night falling in time with her tears.
“I’m scared, Ruhn,” she whispered.
Only the thunder rumbled back.

Moony's reaction when seeing a kid CLEARLY over—stimulated but, , DOESN'T want help / worry / bother other people??
CRIES
I did get this in yesterday but my mental health was just like. So bad (still is but a bit better) so now I’m answering it today instead :)
Oh my God, is that kid ME????
Moon would go about it very, very carefully. He’s meticulous, logical, and stubborn as all hell. This kid is struggling and he is going to help, no matter what.
He assesses the situation for a few moments so that he can note what sort of interactions may be going on for the kid to be overstimulated. He makes sure to remember whatever he notices so that he can refrain from putting the child into the same sort of situation, or at least make it easier for them if it does come down to simply helping instead of completely disengaging.
He will casually pull the child aside, making sure to keep his voice level and gentle- soft, understanding. This child isn’t alone, as Sun can get overstimulated at times, as well. Moon is even worse in that regard- that’s why he’s the naptime attendant, there’s no noise or rambunctious kids to make him nervous.
He knows it’s hard to ask for help. Which is why he isn’t exactly surprised when the child denies that anything is wrong. A blatant lie, but it’s for defense. They don’t want to cause a scene, he supposes. Either that, or….
“Do you not want help because you think it’ll make us fuss over you, starshine?” Moon would ask, tilting his head a slight bit, like a curious puppy.
The child could nod or shake their head(overstimulation can make it harder for some people to speak), either way, Moon is taking them off to the side of the naptime area, where distance can be put between the other kids, but still close enough so that Moon can watch over them.
He would pull a stuffed animal from the pile, and hand it delicately to the kid.
“How about we just sit and calm down, okay? You focus on the fur of the plushie, and I’ll focus on getting you all situated.” Moon smiles, gathering a blanket that he settles at the child’s side if they desire to use it.
He would let the kid keep the stuffed animal for as long as they need, hoping that it will be grounding. He gives them some space, but still stays close enough for hugs or reassurances if they ask for them.
By the end of naptime, he would ask to make sure that they’re okay.
“No! No, it doesn’t make you weird to have those feelings. I know you must still be a little rattled, but…may I give you a hug?”
If the child says yes, he will wrap his arms around them, scoop them up into his lap and ruffle their hair a slight bit, a small smile filled with warmth crossing his face.
“It’s never wrong to need a bit of a break. That’s what naptime’s for, after all. If you ever feel like that again, please come to either me or Sun, alright? It’s never a bother, starshine. I just want to make sure you’re okay. We both do. Your needs aren’t troublesome or overbearing- that’s why they’re called needs. Needing something different doesn’t make you wrong.”
———————————————
That’s to everyone out there reading this. Please, please take time for yourself when your mind and/or body is telling you to take a break. You are so, so important, and nothing you feel makes you wrong or incompetent. A feeling isn’t something you can just erase. If something needs to change to make you comfortable in your life, find a place or time that you can start changing it. You deserve to have your life the way that makes you feel best. Overstimulation is very common on all spectrums of both neurodivergency and neurotypical folk. It doesn’t make you weird. It doesn’t make you a burden. It just makes you more human. Love you guys, stay safe <3

Eda Raises Two Gods AU Chapter 20🎉
Summary: Enzo goes to their first therapy session.
Word count: 4.1k
Warnings: therapy happens and there's some referenced trauma
A/N: in all honesty this chapter's first ~1200 words of set up and gushing over cute animals, ~1300 words of basically just the DSM-5 on PTSD, and then ~1500 of Enzo and Gailine (also King but ngl I forgot he was there for the majority of the chapter til the end) getting snacks.
Also I made a short video of some napping swamp kitties!
Eda Raises Two Gods AU Masterpost
____________________________________________________________________________________________
Enzo held onto Mama's hand tightly and ducked under her cloak as they approached the office. They felt safe with the soft fabric all around them, it was kinda like Papa’s fluffy fur. The owl lady paused at the door and glanced down at them.
“Are you still feeling okay, starshine?” Eda asked them softly.
“I don't know… but I think I'm ready now.” They said.
She just smiled at him and opened the door.
As soon as they crossed the threshold, they felt a little less nervous.
The space could only be described as peaceful, there were plants placed or growing everywhere, and lots of little waterfalls. The desk up front had a waterfall built into it that led to a little pool full of tiny water plants at the bottom.
A spider demon was busily typing away at the front desk. The top set of eyes glanced at them before she fully looked away from whatever she was busy doing.
“Hello, welcome to The Garden House, are you here for your first appointment?” She asked cheerfully.
“Yes, Clawthorne, I'm here for my kid’s first appointment.” Eda said.
It always filled Enzo with a special, bubbly kind of warmth when Eda called them her kid.
“Wonderful, you can take a seat and I'll let Miss Margay know you're here. She'll be with you quickly.” She told them.
Eda nodded to the demon and guided them over to an isolated pair of chairs by a small fountain. Once they were sitting, Nibs slithered out of her travel tube and curled around their arm. He gave them a few chin scratches and held her close to their chest, letting their purr rumble through his body.
They took another look around the waiting room. There was a shelf built into the front desk with some of those stuffed animals on it, and a couple of blankets with a sign saying something about them. He tugged Mama’s sleeve and pointed to the sign.
“What's that say?” They asked in a whisper.
Eda glanced over and squinted at the sign.
“Those are for sale, Saethrith makes them herself.” She told them.
“Who's Saethrith?”
“Her.” Eda pointed to the spider at the front desk.
“Oh.”
Enzo fiddled their fingers for a moment until Mama spoke up again.
“You can go check them out if you want starshine, she doesn't bite.”
Enzo glanced between the busy spider and Eda uncertainly.
“She won't be mad at me for bothering her?” He asked quietly.
“Nah, spiders are great at multitasking.” Eda said, giving them a light pat on the head.
He giggled and glanced towards the shelf again. Nibs hissed in their ear to go for it.
“Are you sure she won't be mad?” They asked.
“Yep.” She nodded and gave the a slight nudge towards the desk.
“Besides, she's been watching us the whole time, she knows you're coming.” She added.
Sure enough, Enzo glanced back just in time to catch one set of eyes flick away from them.
“Um… okay…” they mumbled and walked across the room to the desk.
They knelt by the shelf and started looking through the many soft things sitting there. He was keenly aware of the eyes on them, Saethrith kept looking away before they could really catch her watching them. She was trying to hide a laugh or smile.
“Which is your favorite?” She suddenly asked.
Enzo looked up and saw her leaning over the counter with her head resting in one of her hands, they could still hear one of her other hands working. Mama was right, spiders do multitask good.
“Uh… I like this one.” Enzo held up the stuffed toy that looked like a chubby long tailed bunny with a tiny mushroom on its head, a little cape of leaves and a happy sleepy face.
“Oh yeah, Bun Bun’s a good one.” She said while nodding.
“Bun Bun?” They echoed.
“I give each design names for inventory purposes, plus it's fun, and that one's named after a buddy of mine.” She explained.
“Oh.” Enzo nodded.
Their sister did that.
Her system was very complex. She would get really upset when the others dropped things on her without warning, or went through it without asking. Enzo had tried to help her, but they never really understood it either.
“Hey, wanna see Bun Bun’s best friend?” Saethrith’s voice shook them out of their thoughts.
“Huh?”
Saethrith chuckled and reached over into the shelf, grabbing another toy and showing it to him.
It looked like a fluffy pink cloud.
“This is Cotton. She's a spider sheep.” Saethrith said.
“She looks fluffy.” They said.
“She's so fluffy, you have no idea how fluffy she is. She's great for cuddles at night and she likes to sleep right on top of me with Bun Bun on her back.” Saethrith giggled.
“Wait, are these real?” Enzo asked.
“Yeah! They're my Bondlings! I usually bring them in but they had to go to the vet today, so my cousin is watching them for me” Saethrith said excitedly.
She grabbed her scroll with one of her other hands, showing him a picture of her with a fluffy pink sheep and the chubby bunny cuddling.
“Aww!” Enzo gushed.
“I know right? I based these two off of them, Cotton loves to snuggle with them. Bun Bun likes it too.” Saethrith told them, showing them another picture of all the fluffy little things cuddling together.
“That's so adorable! Why is it so cute?!” They exclaimed, smooshing their own cheeks as they looked at the adorableness.
“I don't know but it's adorable.” Saethrith said.
One of the doors suddenly opened and a vampire walked out, Saethrith sat up and went back over to the desk.
“Are you ready to pay, Mx. Philyra?” Saethrith asked.
“Yes.” They said.
Enzo tuned Saethrith out and focused on the vampire, they hadn't seen one in a long time, they hadn't been anywhere in a long time but still. This vampire looked oddly witch-like, even more than the normal witch-like vampires. They didn't have the bat ears or the little horns. The heavily tinted sunglasses were familiar. Vampires had very sensitive eyes.
Then they spotted a familiar pendant. A concealment stone to make them look more like a normal witch. They'd seen it before, vampires used it when they didn't want to be bothered.
They shrugged and kept playing with the cute little toys.
The door opened again and a Dhampir walked out on crutches. The dhampir girl looked a lot like her parent, the top half of her hair was a pinkish gray, the bottom half was dark, two toned hair was pretty common for vampires and dhampirs.
There was something off about the way she was walking, she was heavily favoring her right leg and using crutches despite nothing being wrong with either of her legs. One of them was giving off a weird sound. They flicked their concealed ears and listened closer to the soft clinking and humming coming from her leg. She noticed them staring and they quickly looked away.
The vampire and dhampir left together.
“Alright, Miss Margay will be with you in a few minutes.” Saethrith told them.
Enzo nodded and put the toys back on the shelf then sat down next to Eda again.
A few minutes later, the door opened and Gailine's mom came out.
“Hello Enzo, I'm so glad to see you here.” She greeted him nicely.
“Would you like to come back?” She asked them.
They glanced up at Mama for permission. She gave them a steady nod and ruffled up their hair.
He still held her hand as they followed Clover into the meeting rooms.
There was a big open room setup with lots of books, toys and games, and there were a few kids playing and reading in the room. They walked past it down a hallway with lots of doors, some were shut, some were open and empty and some had people doing work in them.
Everything was colored nice blues and greens and soft pastels.
It felt nice.
Clover guided them into a room near the end of the hall. One of the walls was only a few feet tall, the rest was a massive open window that overlooked the garden outside, the adjacent wall had a large circular window and a bunch of bookshelves underneath it. A desk sat in front of the bookshelves, there was a little playspace on the other side of the room, lots of toys and books and fun stuff, there was one of those standing painting things near the window. The ceiling was one big window.
And there were plants absolutely everywhere.
The room smelled like a cool afternoon in a forest or a meadow.
Clover sat at the desk and motioned for them to sit in the chairs across from her.
The chair was soft and had little flowers woven into the fabric.
They fiddled with their fingers while Clover did whatever she was doing.
“You're doing great starshine.” Eda whispered.
They smiled at her. Nibs nuzzled their cheek and purred softly.
“From what Edalyn has told me, you can't read or write, is that right?” Clover asked gently.
“Uh yeah, that's right.” Enzo nodded.
“Is that going to cause a problem?” They wondered.
“No, I have lots of patients who can't.” Clover said.
She set a stack of papers to the side of her desk and turned to them.
“Now, I know it's not the easiest thing to talk about,” she paused and glanced at Mama for a second, “especially when important people are present. So how would you like to do this?” She said.
“Uh, how does it normally happen?” he asked.
“There's usually some yes or no system, sometimes patients want their parents to leave because they don't want to worry them, but I think you'll benefit more from your mom being here.” Clover said.
“I do have a method that lots of patients like.” She opened a drawer in her desk and set a big, shiny box on the desk.
“It's the Yes-No box.” She said, pushing it over to them.
It had three big holes in the top for something, one was outlined in green, one was blue and the middle one was purple. Clover set a bin of shiny little balls next to the box.
“Here's how this works, I'll ask you a question, and you'll drop a marble into the green or blue side, blue means no, green means yes, purple is maybe or not sure. You can put it under your seat and answer without anyone seeing you.” She explained.
Enzo nodded, that sounded okay.
I trust Mama, but I don't want her to be sad. She always gets sad when I talk about stuff.
“Does that sound good Enzo?” Clover asked.
“Y-yeah… that's good.” They said.
The ocelat gave them a warm smile.
“Then we can get started, but we can take a break anytime you need.” She told him.
Enzo nodded again and set the box under their seat. He took the bin of marbles and sat them in their lap. The marbles were cool and smooth.
Clover had a paper on the desk in front of her.
“Are you ready?” She asked.
“Yes.” Enzo grabbed Mama's offered hand.
“Have you ever been exposed to actual or threatened death, serious injury or sexual violence in one or more of the following ways; have you directly experienced death, serious injury or sexual violence?”she asked.
Enzo squeezed Eda's hand and dropped a marble into the green hole. It clinked when it hit the bottom.
“Have you ever witnessed death, serious injury or sexual violence in person as it happened to others?”
Blue blood splattered across the ground flashed through their mind, they flinched and dropped another marble into the green side.
“Have you ever learned of death, serious injury or sexual violence occuring to a close family member or close friend?”
Another marble went into the green box.
“Have you experienced repeated or extreme exposure to aversive details of these traumatic events?”
They hesitated over the green hole before they dropped it into the purple one.
“Have you ever had one or more of the following intrusive symptoms associated with the traumatic events, beginning after they occurred; recurrent, involuntary and intrusive distressing memories of the traumatic events?”
Green hole.
“Recurrent distressing dreams where the content and or affect of the dream are related to the traumatic events?”
Clink.
Clink.
Clink.
The marbles went in for the next three questions.
“Do you persistently avoid stimuli associated with the traumatic events, such as avoiding memories, thoughts or feelings about or closely associated with the events?”
Clink
“Do you avoid external reminders, such as people, places, activities, objects and situations that make you think about the traumatic events?”
They dropped another marble into green.
Clover put her paper down.
“You're doing great so far, do you want to take a break?” she asked.
Enzo shook their head.
“Alright, if you're sure.” Clover said.
“Do you have trouble remembering important parts of the traumatic experience?”
They dropped a marble into the middle hole, they weren't quite sure since they tried so hard to not think about it.
“Do you have negative beliefs about yourself, the world or others? Does the world feel unsafe, do you feel like you can't trust anyone?”
Everything felt unsafe since Papa.
Another marble in the green hole.
“Do you blame yourself for what happened?”
Enzo's head snapped up, meeting a concerned two toned gaze.
How is that even a question? It is my fault! It's all my fault!-
“Starshine?”
They glanced at Eda, she looked upset again.
“Are you okay there kiddo? You kinda froze up on us.” She explained.
“I'm fine.” They told her.
“If you are here, you're anything but fine.” Clover said.
“Do you want to stop?” She asked again, more seriously this time.
“No.”
The feline demon narrowed her eyes.
“Do you have a persistent negative emotional state, such as fear, anger, horror, guilt or shame?”
Blue hole.
“Do you have  a diminished interest in activities?”
Blue.
“Do you have feelings of detachment or estrangement from others?”
Blue.
“Are you unable to experience positive emotions?”
Blue.
“Do you have irritable behavior and angry outbursts with little to no provocation?”
Blue.
“Do you have reckless or self destructive behavior?”
Blue.
“Are you hyper vigilant?”
Green.
“Do you have exaggerated startle responses?”
They were really jumpy all the time…
Green.
“Do you have problems with concentration?”
Green.
“Do you have sleep disturbances, trouble falling, staying asleep or restless sleep?”
Green.
“Do these disturbances cause significant distress or impairment of other important areas of functioning?”
Green.
“Are these disturbances coming from medicines?”
Blue.
“Do you experience depersonalization or derealization?”
“What're those?” Enzo asked.
“Depersonalization is feeling detached from your body or thoughts, like you're watching it all. Derealization is experiencing the world as unreal, dreamlike, distant or distorted.” Clover explained.
“Oh… I don't think either of those happen.” They said.
“Well then, that's the last question I have for you.” Clover said, setting her papers down on her desk.
“R-really? That was it?” He wondered.
“Yes, you've given me everything I need from you, now I'm going to talk with your mom, you and your brother can go to the garden or the playroom. Gailine should be somewhere here, she's been itching to play again.” She told him.
Enzo glanced at Eda. Mama smiled at them, ruffling up their hair.
“Go ahead and have some fun, you've done great today, starshine.” She said.
“We've also got some treats, Mx. Lyn is always cooking something up. Gailine can take you to the kitchen.” Clover added.
King woke from his nap at the mention of treats. He scrambled out of Eda's lap, flopping onto the ground in his attempts to get tasty treats faster.
“Treat! Treat! King wan treat!” He cheered.
“Is it okay if we have some?” They asked.
“Course kiddo, just don't let King make himself sick.” Mama said.
“I won't! Thanks Mama!” Enzo swore.
“Treat!!!” King shouted, scampering out the door.
Enzo chased after their gluttonous little brother.
“King! Slow down! You don't know where you're going!” They shouted.
King ran all the way to the playroom, skidding to a stop at the sight of all the new toys. The other kids that had been here before were gone now, the sun was significantly lower than before. It was mid afternoon when they went in, now the shadows were long as the sun slowly lowered to the horizon.
“Eso!” King chirped, tugging at his pants.
They glanced down, King pointed to the toys.
“Play?” He asked, his tail wagging.
“I thought you wanted treats.” Enzo said.
“But wanna play!” King whined.
“We can get treats and play.” they explained.
“Oh, are you guys getting treats?” Gailine’s voice came from above.
The ocelat was in some weird tube thing attached to the ceiling, peering down at them from an opening. She grabbed onto a rope near the opening, flinging herself out of the tube and onto a carpeted strip of the wall, she slid down with her claws dug into the wall carpet and made a surprisingly clean landing.
“That was insane!” Enzo shouted.
“Thank you.” Gailine said smugly.
Enzo glowered at the feline.
“I didn't mean it as a compliment.”
“I know.” She stuck her tongue out at him.
“So do you wanna get some snacks?” She asked.
“Snack!” King screeched.
“Yeah! C'mon I'll show you the kitchen!” Gailine said.
She took their hand, half dragging, half leading them to the kitchen.
The kitchen was a cozy space with drawers and cabinets everywhere, cooking utensils, pots and pans hung from the ceiling and the whole room was painted a warm yellowy orange. There were a couple of ovens against one wall and a big oven in the farthest wall.
“Whoa, this is cool.” Enzo said, looking around the kitchen in awe.
“Yeah, Mam made Mama put in a kitchen when she started staying out super late working on stuff and not eating. Sometimes she comes down to check that Mama's eaten something since she forgets to a lot. One of my aunties came and designed it, she makes the coolest stuff. Mx. Lyn uses it the most. They bake the best treats.” Gailine said.
“Mx. Lyn! Can we get a snack?!” Gailine shouted into the kitchen.
“Can't we just go in?” Enzo asked, noting how she was standing just behind the kitchen’s tile floor.
“Mama says I can't go in without permission cause I'll burn myself again.” she said casually.
“Oh, that makes sense.” Enzo nodded.
“Kitten? Who's that you got with you?” A pale yellow face peered around the corner, fuzzy antennas swaying with the movement.
Their big, dark eyes landed on him and they smiled, setting down whatever they were doing to fly over to them.
They didn't look like any bee demon he'd ever seen before. They had the two big main eyes, but lacked the trio of small forehead eyes, and they had the usual four wings, creating a dull buzz as they hovered above the ground.
Their tail was the biggest difference, they had a long thick, hooked tail that ended in a barb, instead of the shorter rounded abdomen. Their lower half looked less like a bee demon's and more witch-like.
They giggled at his staring.
“Is this the new friend you've been telling me about?” They asked Gailine.
“Yeah! This is Enzo Clawthorne! They're my best friend!” Gailine proclaimed proudly, squeezing them with a tight side hug.
“Best friend”? I'm her best friend? Enzo wondered, glancing at Gailine with mild confusion.
They'd gotten her into a lot of trouble, probably caused a lot of problems… she still called them her best friend.
“Well it's very nice to finally put a face to the name.” Mx. Lyn said happily.
“y-yes! Nice to meet you too.” Enzo said hurriedly.
The bee(?) demon giggled again, buzzing back over to Gailine, ruffling her hair up with one set of hands.
“What snack do you kids want?” They asked.
“Oh, can we get some Boiling Lava Cakes, Blood Cupcakes, and Blossom Bat Fruit cobbler please.” Gailine requested politely.
Mx. Lyn frowned down at Gailine.
“Why so many sweets? Did something happen today?” Mx. Lyn asked.
“Enzo had their first meeting with Mama. His mama and mine are talking now.” Gailine explained before quickly adding “Mama said we could get some.”
“I guess I have to believe you this time.” Mx. Lyn said.
“You should, cause I'm not lying.” Gailine huffed.
“Does the little guy want anything?” They asked him, gesturing towards King.
“He likes red stuff that makes a mess, and meat.” Enzo said.
“Think he'd like a blood sausage?” they suggested.
“Probably, he's not very picky.” Enzo shrugged.
“I'll get that started for you three.” Mx. Lyn said, disappearing back into the kitchen with a happy buzz.
“They're really nice, right?” Gailine prompted them.
“Yeah… they look a little funny, I thought bee demons had-”
“Big butts?” Gailine guessed.
They stared at her.
“Uh… yeah, that.” They nodded.
“Oh they do. Mx. Lyn is just half scorpion demon. Miss Sae jokes that their top half is a bee, and their bottom half is a scorpion.” She said.
“That's cool!” Enzo said.
“Sometimes hybrids have issues that make it harder to live. Sometimes they make it. Sometimes they don't and they suffer. It's not good to let them suffer, so we intervene.”
“I thought we weren't supposed to do that.”
“Yes, we aren't supposed to intervene and change things, but these are cases where the end result is inevitable, and we can speed up inevitable things to end suffering.”
“Does that make sense, Nova?”
“Yeah, kinda.”
“Good, I'm sure it will make more sense once you're older. Our job is to preserve and protect all creatures.”
“Then why don't we just fix it?”
“Nova, we do what we can for them, but sometimes there's nothing that can be done. We don't change things like that. This is just the less happy side of our duty.”
“Oh. So there's really nothing we can do for them?”
“Sadly not, that is just part of existence, some things don't work out no matter what you do.”
Enzo shook their head, stubbornly shoving the ancient voice away.
“Does Mx. Lyn have any issues from that?” they asked.
“Huh? Oh, no, I don't think so. They act more like a bee than a scorpion.” Gailine said.
“Oh. That's good.” Enzo said.
“Isn't your mama a hybrid too? Does she have issues?” Gailine asked, turning her bright orange eyes onto them.
“Yeah, she is… and she does have problems…” Enzo admitted.
“Just don't tell anyone, I don't think Mama wants people to know.” They added.
Gailine snickered.
“Pinkie swear.” She said, offering her pinkie.
Enzo smiled and locked fingers with her. “Cross my heart and hope to die, stick a needle in my eye.” Gailine swore seriously.
“Did you see Miss Sae’s toys up front?” She asked after they unhooked pinkies.
“Yeah, I like the bunny and the sheep the best.” Enzo gushed.
“Bun Bun and Cotton are super cute in person, and they're so fluffy!” Gailine squealed.
“You're so lucky you get to see them so much.” Enzo said.
“Yeah, but Mx. Lyn gets to hang out with them all the time, so they're the real lucky one.” Gailine sighed.
“Why does Mx. Lyn gets to see them so much?” They asked.
“Cause they and Miss Sae live together. I think they love each other. That's what Mam and Mama said when I asked about the kissing thing they do.” Gailine explained.
“Do your moms not kiss much?” Enzo asked.
“No, they don't love each other like other parents do. They're friends. They cuddle cause we're ocelats and we like to do that.” She chirped.
“Miss Sae and Mx. Lyn kiss a lot.” She giggled, dropping her voice low.
“How many times do they do it?” Enzo asked, whispering as well.
“They do it whenever they see each other.” Gailine squealed.
“What are you two whispering about?” Mx. Lyn asked, standing over the pair of children.
“Nothing.” Gailine said innocently.
“You’re going to be the death of me, Kitten.” Mx. Lyn sighed good naturedly.
They held out cute little food baskets for each of them.
“I want you kids to eat the lunches I made before you eat your sweets. You'll make yourselves sick otherwise.” They said sternly.
“We will!” Gailine shouted, already dragging him towards the garden door by the kitchen.
“C'mon! I wanna show you my favorite pond! It looks the coolest at this time of day!” Gailine told them enthusiastically.
“Okay!” Enzo laughed.
They eagerly ran into the big, calm garden, laughing and playing with King and Gailine as she led them to the pond.
Despite the lightness in their chest, something stirred deep in the dark part of their mind.
You lied.
