Family Trip To Hell (Diyu)
Shadowpeach Family AU chapter 7
Summary: Wukong, Liu'er and Ma go to the underworld to get their kiddos names out of the book of the dead. Wukong's mom has a long overdue talk with her son.
Word count: 5.1k
Warnings: Wukong and Macaque's past(mostly Wukong's tho), mentions of death(they're in the underworld), mentions of murder, implications of destructive tendencies,
A/N: There is a very minor OC here, he is a Diyu registrant/receptionist, so I've decided to call him Zhù Cè Rén which means registrant according to the translator I've been using. He and Liu'er are buds so Liu'er calls him Zhù Cè which is to register and that's why his name is that. His name is his job.
Yuze(Wukong and Ma's mom)

“Boring! This is the most boring way into the Diyu!” Wukong whined.
This entrance of the Diyu was pretty dull and mildly depressing. All the cool stuff was at another level. For their business today, they didn't need to go too far into the Diyu. Liu'er had insisted on not pissing off the underworld gods, again, so they were going the boring way.
“This place is depressing.” Ma commented, looking around at the large, cave-like passage they were using.
Unlike either of them, Ma had (luckily) never been to the Diyu before.
“It's the underworld, it's not supposed to be very fun.” Liu'er pointed out.
“Eh, guess so.” The albino monkey shrugged, adjusting her grip on Xuěhuā.
They walked for a few minutes longer, following behind Liu'er, they passed another set of guards checking for the living, his mate had a quick chat with the guards, who like all the others were happy to see him again, before they were allowed through.
A little further down, the passage opened up into a larger cavern. There was what looked like a desk carved out of the wall and a demon sitting at it, doing whatever it was underworld demons did when they weren't dealing with souls.
“Zhù Cè!” Liu'er called out, waving to his friend.
The demon glanced over and blinked a few times before scrambling to his feet to greet the shadow monkey.
“Liu'er! I haven't seen you down here in over a century! I was starting to think something happened to you!” The underworld attendant said excitedly.
“I've been a little busy. I thought I told you and yuè mǔ when I was last down here.” Liu'er said, lifting Chao-Xing out of his arms.
The little cub giggled at the sudden uppies. Zhù Cè stared at her with a scrunched up face.
“How in here did you two manage to make something so cute?” he asked, letting the cub grab one of his fingers in her little hands.
“Hey!” Wukong objected.
“No, no, I was wondering that too.” Ma said.
He glared over his shoulder at his annoying older sister. His daughter’s giggles brought his attention back to his mate and their child. Chao-Xing was playing with some squishy ball toy Zhù Cè had on his desk that she somehow got her little hands on.
The demon was staring at the playing baby monkey with more scrutiny than before. He pulled a pair of glasses out of his pocket, leaning closer to the infant.
“Zhù Cè…? What are you doing?” Liu'er asked, slightly leaning away.
“Oh… this is exciting!” Zhù Cè exclaimed, scrambling to write something down in the notebook Liu'er said he always had on him.
“What is exciting?” Wukong asked.
“That is a brand new soul!” Zhù Cè pointed at Chao-Xing.
“We haven't seen one of those in over a thousand years! … Odd that it's just the one, these usually happen in groups… oh! But you two made this one, it's impressive that you made this one, new souls are hard to create and maintain to term-”
“Hang on, can you back up a bit to the whole “brand new soul” part?” Liu'er said.
Yeah, what the actual fuck does that mean?!” Wukong agreed.
The demon shrunk back, searching his desk for something. His dark eyes lit up when he got whatever he was looking for. A heavily used scroll.
“Let's see here … ah- there it is. Celestial monkeys, you two, exist outside of the natural order, your creation doesn't happen the natural way. You don't have past lives, these are the first incarnations your souls have had,” he paused, gesturing towards the now bored infant chewing on Liu'er’s fur, “she's just like you, she doesn't have a past life, she's a new soul.”
Wukong glanced down at his daughter, the cub met his gaze with a cheerful chirp for snacks and cuddles. Liu'er passed her back without much fuss, he settled the little monkey in his arms. Considering how they made her, the new soul idea made sense.
“Does the new soul thing have any negative side effects?” Liu'er asked, masking his worry with a sense of curiosity in his voice.
“Nope. If anything, she's better off than the normal souls, she won't have any of the déjà vu they sometimes get from their past lives cause it doesn't exist for her.” Zhù Cè shrugged, setting his scroll back on his desk.
Wukong's ear flicked, Ma was cutting up a pear for Xuěhuā; the pair of albinos must have gotten bored with all the soul talk that didn't concern them.
“It's no wonder it took you a century to have a kid, new souls are hard to make.” Zhù Cè was saying.
“Really?” He asked, zeroing in on the demon.
The attendant shifted under his gaze.
“Yeah, if you didn't know how to do it right, it wouldn't work, no matter how hard you tried.” He said.
And here he was, thinking the problem had been them all along, turns out the problem was their species.
“That's all very nice, Zhù Cè, but be a dear and step aside. I'd like to talk with my son.”
The voice of Wukong's (recent) nightmares echoed throughout the cavern.
A monkey demon appeared in front of the Kings with crossed arms and a thoroughly pissed expression.
“Oh you are absolutely fucked.” Liu'er whispered.
“Not helping.” Wukong whispered back.
Yuze glared up at her son, scathing green eyes burning his skin as she examined him. She definitely wasn't pleased.
“Mā.” Wukong greeted nervously.
“Shí Hóu.” She growled.
“Yeah, you're so dead.” Ma commented.
Wukong glared at his sister, who cracked up behind him. Yuze growled a low warning, snapping her son's attention back to her.
“Do you have anything to say for yourself?” She prompted.
“Uh, we had a baby?” Wukong tried, holding Chao-Xing out for his mother to see.
The dull brown and gray monkey glanced down at the cub, happily chewing on her own tail completely oblivious to the tension.
“Cute. You're not getting out of this.” she said.
“I'll just take that from you.” Liu'er took Chao-Xing out of his doomed mate’s hands.
“You are in so much trouble, mister.” She growled.
Yuze grabbed him by his ear, dragging him further along the cavern. He heard Liu'er snickering from behind, and while he knew this was deserved, he couldn't stop himself from shouting,
“Hey! You did a lot of shit too! Why isn't she mad at you?!”
“She already talked to me about all of that. And I visit at least once a decade!” Liu'er shouted back.
Wukong reluctantly let his mother drag him to his doom. She took him further down the path, to a distance where her inevitable shouting wouldn't bother the cubs. No doubt Liu'er would hear every second of it.
Yuze finally stopped and turned around to face him. He winced at the anger in her eyes. She sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose as she shook her head.
“You've done a lot of shit, Shí Hóu, I don't have the time or patience to cover everything. Just the big ones, alright?” She said, resting a gentle hand on his shoulder.
“You're not shouting?” He asked in surprised confusion.
He'd been certain his mother would scream and shout, he was so sure she would be furious, that's why he avoided her for so long.
“I thought you were-”
“Shí Hóu, I was, and still am, but shouting won't get us anywhere. Let's just talk, okay?” She gave him a soft, understanding smile.
Tears stung his eyes. Over the centuries he forgot how understanding his mother could be.
“Talking sounds good.” He nodded.
She smiled before gently pushing him down.
“Get down there so I can see you properly.” She instructed.
Once he was sitting, she flicked his hair around with her tail, laughing not so quietly as she paced in front of him.
“Where do you want to start?” He asked nervously.
She paused, her tail tip twitched.
“That lion and his brotherhood.” she growled.
Wukong flinched, his old brotherhood was a sore subject for everyone involved, most recently with the whole DBK situation. Liu'er had never much cared for (or trusted) any of the others during their days as a brotherhood, he'd gotten closer with DBK after, mostly due to his relationship with Princess Iron Fan, and with what the others did, Wukong was perfectly fine with never discussing them again.
“What was the deal with him? Was he really able to convince you of his short sighted delusions that easily?” She asked, looking down at him with something akin to pity.
Wukong shifted under her intense gaze. Looking back, he wanted to strangle his younger self for trusting that liar. He wanted to strangle his younger self for a lot of things actually.
“I thought I could trust him, it was a stupid decision and I really should have seen the signs sooner, but I guess I just ignored them because I liked the way he made me feel.” he admitted slowly.
“Did you find what you were looking for?” She asked.
“I… not with them… not for a while…” he answered.
“And what were you looking for?” she pressed gently.
Wukong didn't want to say it out loud, he knew in his gut she wouldn't be offended, it still felt like a betrayal.
“… help…”
That was the simplest way he could put it. He knew she was well aware of what he was trying to find back then.
“Even when you already had it?” She pointed out.
He winced, she gave him a more stern look.
“You have a bad habit of trying to deal with things yourself, xiǎo guǐ.” she told him.
“Yeah… I know.” He sighed.
“Then why haven't you stopped?” She asked.
He looked up, about to rebut her statement
“Don't say you have, you stayed up on the mountain for three years dealing with a death by yourself, Mihou doesn't count, he had to go through the same shit. You didn't go to anyone about it, you still haven't.” she swiftly cut him off with a sharp stare.
“Back to the point, why did you listen to him over everyone else? Mihou hears the future, his abilities weren't as well developed back then but they still gave him an idea of what would happen, yet you ignored his warnings. I know you were arrogant and headstrong and didn't think about consequences, but that seems pretty extreme for you, you used to always listen to what Mihou said,” she paused and shot him a questioning look, “unless you were worse than I thought you were after I died?”
Wukong gave his mother a sheepish grin.
“Of course.” Yuze sighed heavily, rubbing her face.
“I'd ask where I went wrong, but I know where I went wrong.” She muttered to herself.
“Well, is that the only reason, or is there something else?” She said.
“He was saying what I wanted to hear… what I thought I needed to hear… it was pretty stupid in hindsight.” He said with a weak chuckle.
“Táo huā, everything looks different in hindsight.” She said lightly.
His chest warmed at her words.
“I’m glad you dealt with them, the elephant can be released someday, but the other two can stay in there for eternity for all I care.” She said.
“I couldn't agree more.” He nodded.
There was an awkward (to him at least) lull in the conversation.
“The eyes are new.” She said finally, gesturing to his face.
“Oh, uh, yeah… they've been like that for a while.” He scratched the back of his head sheepishly.
“I know.” She nodded before letting out another heavy sigh.
“Shí Hóu, we need to talk about what happened on your journey.”
“Mihou and I-”
She raised a single hand.
“You killed your mate. You killed your best friend. We need to talk about that.” She insisted.
“It's one of the reasons you've been avoiding me.” she added, crossing her arms.
Wukong shrunk away from her knowing gaze.
“Take your glamor down, I bet your hair's a mess.” She instructed.
He would have argued, but she was one hundred percent correct. His hair was a mess, Chao-Xing had decided to climb onto his head on the way here and chew his hair, she was definitely developing a chewing habit.
She sat down behind him, running her skilled fingers through his hair, eliciting fond memories from simpler times when he and his mother would talk about anything and nothing for hours on warm, sunny afternoons.
“I was confused when he showed up dead again, and when he told me what happened… I was… angry to say the least.”
“Now, I know what happened and why it happened, I know that it was a mistake, for both of you…” she trailed off, he felt her claws working through a tough knot.
“But! Just because I understand doesn't mean I'm not still just a little bit disappointed in the both of you. I thought I taught you better.” She finished, moving onto another knot.
“It broke him, you know that? Sure he was partially responsible for it, but never in his life did he think you would kill him, even if it was an accident.”
“He was so hurt when I first saw him, so hurt. He got angry later, but under all that anger and bitterness was a pain he didn't know what to do with.”
“He returned to life lost and broken. He had no idea what to do with himself, and while I suppose he ultimately went down a better path, he very easily could have gone the other way.” She told him somberly.
His mother fell quiet, working on his fur, Wukong finally found it in himself to ask her something.
“Do you know what happened after he came back? He's frustratingly vague about it whenever I ask.” He asked.
“Hmmm… nope!” She chirped smugly, popping the ‘p’.
“You do know!” He shouted, glaring over his shoulder at her.
She laughed, tossing her head back.
“It's not my story to tell Shí Hóu.” She said.
He huffed and turned around grumpily.
“I'm sure you'll find out soon, he's just saving it for some prank.” She patted his shoulder gently.
“You know that you've both been lucky so far, right?” She prompted a few minutes later.
“Hmm?”
“You worked through that issue, it took you ages and you dragged poor Chenxiang into it, but it's done now. So what are you going to do about the others you have? Or others you will encounter later?” She said, finally working out all the knots in his hair.
“What other issues?” He asked, glancing back at her.
“The business with Demon Bull King? Mihou was pretty upset when he told me about that.” Yuze pointed out.
“Oh.” She knows about that. He guiltily looked away from his mother's sharp green eyes.
“That's another thing I wanted to talk about.” she said, running her hands through his groomed hair, gently pulling and twisting it back into a braid.
“I didn't want him to die…” he admitted.
“Can you explain it?” She requested gently.
“He wasn't stopping, he was hurting innocent people, if he didn't stop they were going to do something about it… so it was either kill him or make him stop some other way!” He shouted
“… and he wouldn't listen to reason…” he finished.
“Reason means little in the face of emotion. You should know that by now.” She scolded lightly.
“I- uh- yeah, I should.” He relented.
“Oh little Shí Hóu, you still have no idea how to communicate.” She sighed fondly.
He huffed at her statement, slightly offended. He could communicate just fine!
“Here’s what you do, when he gets out, and I bet it's going to be soon, you need to have a talk with your brother. Explain your actions and motivations, then listen when he tells you his.” She told him.
“I'll give it a shot.” He said reluctantly.
DBK was unlikely to forgive him for what he did, he could have, should have, done something else. That way Princess Iron Fan wouldn't have had to defend her territory and raise her son all on her own, his former brother could have seen his son grow up, and Wukong took that from him. Gods, why didn't I do something else!
“Get out of your head, Táo huā.” Yuze snapped calmly.
He glanced at her, she raised an eyebrow in amusement.
“I'm still your mother, even if it's been over a thousand years, I know what you look like when you're lost in your thoughts.” She said, tucking a flower she got from… somewhere, into his now braided hair.
“Now, how are you and Mihou going to handle this going forward?” She prompted.
What do you mean?” Wukong turned around to face her.
“Are you going to tell your daughter?” She asked.
“Yes…?” He said uncertainly, praying she wouldn't elaborate.
“The truth, will you tell her the truth?” she specified, narrowing her eyes.
He coughed, he'd been hoping she wouldn't ask that.
“About what?” he asked, feigning ignorance.
Yuze swatted the side of his head.
“All of it, what you two did to each other, what you did to your brother. Are you going to tell her the truth about you?” She almost growled out.
Mango and I haven't even talked about this with each other yet… how the here am I supposed to answer that? He avoided his mother's all too knowing gaze.
“She has Mihou's ears, what will you do when she hears something you haven't told her about yet?”
“They don't seem to work the way his do, maybe they just look the same.” He suggested.
She glared at him. Yeah okay that wasn't the best suggestion, and Liu'er suspected that she would grow into her hearing.
“Are you even going to tell her at all?” Yuze growled.
“I don't know when we'll tell her!” He shouted.
“Once she's old enough to understand for sure, but we will tell her! Eventually.” Wukong insisted.
Yuze rested a gentle hand on his shoulder.
“It is better if you tell her sooner rather than lie to her longer.” She said knowingly.
“Are you going to say anything?” He asked hesitantly.
“I may not agree with your decision but I will respect it. Besides, it is not my story to tell.” she said.
Wukong let out a sigh of relief.
“But if she comes asking, and you haven't told her yet, I won't lie to her.” Yuze warned.
He nodded in understanding. She smiled, satisfied enough to drop the subject, for now.
“Let's head back, I've got grandkids to meet.” She said, fluffing up the top of his head as she stood.
He followed her up.
“Nuwa wants to know when you'll visit.” Yuze said out of the blue.
Wukong hummed in response. His relationship with his… creator… wasn't the best, not by a long shot.
The goddess never had anything to do with him. It had been easy enough to think that was just because Yuze had taken him as her own when he was younger and didn't know any better. But no! Nuwa had never gotten involved in his life at all, not even when he went to the celestial realm. She never paid any attention to him, never showed him anything but apathetic disinterest.
She didn't care.
That's what he thought for most of his life anyway, the truth wasn't much better.
She didn't think she needed to do any of that.
She hadn't thought she needed to take any action because by the time she realized he existed, Yuze had already taken him as hers and in her opinion, Yuze was doing a better job than she ever could, so she just didn't do anything!
The irony of a Mother Goddess being such a shit parent to her creation was laughable.
“Can’t wait to deal with that.” He grumbled.
Yuze swatted the back of his head.
“Nuwa fucked up, everyone, including her, can agree on that. She thought it was for the best and she was wrong. The important thing is that she realizes and admits she's wrong and she's trying to be better.” Yuze scolded him.
Wukong huffed and rolled his eyes.
“Give it a chance, it's not like you won't be fucking up with your own kid.” She told him.
“Wait, do you think I'm going to mess up that badly?” He asked, dread making his fur puff up.
He already had his doubts, his past experiences with teaching someone hadn’t gone well, if he was that bad of a teacher how bad of a parent would he be?
“Every parent messes up a little bit, mistakes are part of parenting.” She said.
“Really, how did you mess up?” He snapped.
She raised a challenging eyebrow at him, he immediately regretted his question.
“I didn't teach you murder was wrong. Because I didn't think I had to.” she said smugly.
“fuck.” He pouted.
She laughed, tossing her head back, as they finally got back to the main cave.
Wukong stepped to the side to avoid being knocked over by the blur of white slamming into his mother.
“Ma! How have you been, xiǎo guǐ?” Yuze chuckled, hugging her daughter.
Wukong gave his mother and sister some privacy, heading over to where Liu'er was sitting with the cubs.
Xuěhuā was squinting in the direction their mother went, undoubtedly only seeing a fuzzy patch of white in the darkness, while Chao-Xing was chewing her cousin's tail, because they obviously weren't using it.
She stopped using her cousin as a chew toy when she realized he was back. His little cub squealed, reaching her adorable little hands out for him. Chuckling, he let her grab onto one of his fingers.
Unsurprisingly, she started biting it.
“We have got to work on her biting habit.” He said to Liu'er once he sat down.
His moon nodded.
“One of these days she's going to try eating her own ears.” He sighed.
Liu'er's ears were covered in teeny tiny bite marks from their curious cub giving the glowing ears a little nibble whenever she was near them. She didn't have the strength to hurt anyone yet, and when one of them said “ouch” she'd stop and lick the spot she was just biting in a little apology.
It was one of the cutest fucking things he'd ever seen.
“Where'd Zhù Cè go?” Wukong asked, noticing the underworld demon's absence.
“Oh, he had to take care of something, got an urgent message from his boss. He said he'd be back soon.” Liu'er said.
Wukong felt the fur on the back of his neck standing up. He had a gut feeling there was some sort of trouble brewing. A quick glance at his mate showed he had the same feeling.
“We'll talk about it later, if it's not solved. He whispered as Ma and Yuze came back to them.
“If what's not solved?” Ma asked.
“Underworld business. Zhù Cè had to leave.” Liu'er answered easily.
His mother narrowed her eyes skeptically, but didn't make any comment about it. Instead she sat down and flicked her tails towards the pair of cubs.
“Now, who are these cute little cubs?” She asked.
Ma picked up her cub, bringing her closer to their mom.
“This is Xuěhuā, they can't see shit and refuses to wear glasses.” Ma said, setting the toddler cub into Yuze's arms.
The mostly blind cub blinked their pale eyes cluelessly at the strange monkey.
“Who you?” they asked.
“I'm your grandmother.” Yuze said.
“Mama's Mama?” They inquired.
“Yes, that's me.” She answered.
“You smell good. I like you.” Xuěhuā chirped, happily cuddling up to her.
“Well, I'm so glad I smell good.” Yuze chuckled.
“Yeah, smell like a baby! Sweet!” Xuěhuā nodded aggressively.
“Like a baby? No that can't be right, babies are stinky.” Yuze shook her head.
“I can prove!” Xuěhuā insisted.
They scrambled out of their grandmother's hands, scurrying over to Chao-Xing sitting on his lap.
“Can I borrow?” Xuěhuā asked him.
He glanced at Liu'er, his moon nodded, a soft smile on his face at the toddler's antics.
“Sure thing kiddo.” He allowed.
Xuěhuā squealed, happily taking Chao-Xing out of his lap. The smaller cub let out a confused squeak as she was carried over to the brown and gray monkey.
“Here! Smell!” Xuěhuā demanded, shoving their cousin into Yuze's face.
Chao-Xing gave them the angriest baby face she could muster up.
“Hmm, this baby doesn't smell like a baby, she smells like fruit.” Yuze said.
“That's all uncles feed her!”
“hmm… I think this baby is made of fruit.” Yuze concluded.
“No! She's not fruit!” Xuěhuā giggled.
“Here! You check!” The albino toddler just dropped his cub.
He swore he had a heart attack.
Nothing happened, Yuze had her hands underneath Chao-Xing the entire time in case Xuěhuā slipped.
“Xuěhuā, you can't drop the baby.” Ma scolded lightly.
“Okay.” Xuěhuā turned back to Yuze.
“She's not fruit.” Xuěhuā stated confidently.
“I guess not.” Yuze conceded to the cub.
“Oh! She's got two tails! And glowies! I like glowies!” Xuěhuā chirped.
“I bet she's much easier to find.” Yuze agreed, frowning slightly at the cub in her hands.
“How old is she?” She asked.
Wukong's tail twitched anxiously.
“About six months.” He said.
“She's a bit small, does she eat enough?” She inquired, her fur puffing slightly.
“She's got Wukong's appetite.” Liu'er snorted.
“Ah, well all cubs grow differently, some slower than others.” She said.
“What's this little one's name?” she asked.
“Sun Chao-Xing.” His moon said proudly.
“How long of a fight was that one?” Yuze snickered.
“They fought for about a decade.” Ma said.
Wukong stuck his tongue out at his sister.
“I'd expect nothing less.” His mother laughed.
They spent another hour or so talking more until Zhù Cè finally came back, with the king of the underworld himself in tow.
King Yama had the Book of the Dead and miffed expression on his face.
“Sun Wukong, you are permitted to remove the names of your child and your sister's child, no others.” Do you understand?” The king growled.
Before he could even say anything to the underworld king, his mother grabbed him by his ear, yanking him towards her.
“Don't try anything.” She warned with a growl.
“I won't! I promise!” he squealed, absolutely embarrassing himself in front of the present company.
Yuze released him. He rubbed his sore ear. The underworld king had a barely concealed smirk on his face.
“I understand.” He nodded.
“Very well, the pages have been marked in advance.” King Yama said, opening the book.
Wukong took Xuěhuā’s name off first, then Chao-Xing’s. He didn't get to take much of a look at the page once he crossed his daughter's out, Yama shut it before he could get a good look.
“Your business is finished here. Please get out of my domain.” King Yama ordered somewhat politely.
Liu'er snickered. Wukong knew Yama had a pretty good reason for not wanting him down here, the last time he was here he wrecked a lot of important stuff looking for answers, but that didn't mean he wasn't a bit offended by it. Yuze grabbed his arm.
“Yes, you're on your way out now, I'll see you to the exit.” She said, glaring at him pointedly.
He rolled his eyes, it's not like he had any reason to cause trouble this time. Liu'er said goodbye to Zhù Cè, Wukong noticed the demon was considerably more nervous than he had been before.
Maybe Yama’s mad he wasn't doing his job. He thought.
He and Liu'er walked ahead of his mother and sister, they were talking about ways to see each other more frequently, apparently his mother had a few favors with Nuwa she could cash in.
The only good thing he could say about his creator is that it certainly looked like she was trying.
They reached the entrance to the Diyu pretty quickly, Liu'er was wished goodbye and good luck by everyone they passed.
“Don't let the little ones test their immortality too much.” His mother warned lightheartedly, playfully flicking each cub's fur up with her tail.
“We won't.” Ma said, hugging their mother.
“We leaving nǎi nai?” Xuěhuā asked sadly.
“Cheer up bèi, you'll see me again.” Yuze told the cub.
“Okay Nǎi nai! Bye!” Xuěhuā chirped, waving their hand excitedly as Ma stepped through to the other side.
“You two be careful with that little one there okay?” Yuze said.
“Of course Mā.” Liu'er nodded to her.
“And don't smother her either.” She added.
“We won't.” Wukong laughed.
“I expect to see you again before she turns two.” She said, giving them both a tight hug.
She had to stand on her toes to reach them properly.
“You both got too tall.” She huffed.
They all laughed.
“Well, you better not keep Ma waiting.” Yuze said.
“Right, see you soon.” Wukong said.
Yuze watched her son and son in law leave the Diyu. She turned, heading back into the Diyu.
The realm’s King was beyond her reach, he didn't like her much anyway. Zhù Cè was helpfully scared of crossing her, he had let her know when her son arrived.
The registrant paled once he saw her.
“Zhù Cè, what's going on down here?” She asked.
“I'm afraid I can't tell you that.” He admitted.
She glared at him.
“Is it going to be a problem?” She prompted.
“No…” he glanced away.
“Is it a problem for my family?” She hissed.
“I'm really very sorry, but I can't tell you.” Zhù Cè insisted.
She growled.
“It is none of your concern regardless.” King Yama said from behind her.
She glared over her shoulder.
“I think it's time you returned to your mistress, monkey.” He sneered.
“You know, I'm glad I don't have to be stuck here.” She snarled, baring her fangs at the King as she left the underworld.
Nuwa glanced up once she returned.
“How'd it go?” the Mother Goddess asked nervously.
“Yama is an asshole.” She growled.
“Something happened in the Diyu while we were down there. He doesn't want anyone to know what it is.” She crossed her arms with a sigh.
“Think it means trouble?” She glanced at the goddess.
“It's not anything good, that's certain.” Nuwa sighed.
Yuze watched her friend carefully, she had been acting differently for the last three years. Something weighed heavily on her mind.
“I got to meet the little one.” She said, changing to a lighter subject.
“What's she like?!” Nuwa asked excitedly.
Yuze smiled, happy to spend the rest of the day gushing about their granddaughter and her grandchild.

I rushed it a bit at the end, mostly cause I just wanted this chapter to be done. I've been working on it for almost 4 months. It was fun but lots of big emotion stuff and it kept getting away from me and I have a bunch of notes on the stuff in this chapter so please feel free to ask questions if anything confuses you!
Next chapter is shenanigans!

For most of his life, Sun Wukong never thought he'd be a parent. It was a nice idea, sure, but not a very practical one. He always assumed he'd be pretty terrible at it. When tragedy struck the pair of eggs he and Liu'er Mihou were expecting, he thought it was another sign he wouldn't be a good parent, no matter what anyone said. After all, over a century of trying resulted in a single cracked stone egg. As it turns out, he'd be proven wrong. A very small, two tailed monkey cub who would always be cold hatched from that cracked stone egg and flooded the world with light. Sun Wukong and Liu'er Mihou raise their daughter to the best of their ability, with plenty of help from their troop. All the while, the what ifs and worries persist in their minds and Sun Wukong is no longer the only one who has to pay for his past actions. But his little light would be okay, who would be crazy enough to attack the Monkey King's child anyway.

____________________________________________________________________________________________
Clone Force 99 arrived on Massanii in a day's time. Sneaking past the sector's own security had proven to be a serious challenge since it wasn't recorded anywhere and they were thoroughly unprepared for the sector's defense.
Echo was convinced that officer had only let them through for shits and giggles, they were no real threat to anyone, and they'd most likely be followed very closely.
There were only a few imperial escort vessels stationed in the capital city, but nothing else. The sector could handle it's security just fine.
The marauder landed about three clicks away from the town where the photos had been taken in an empty field.
They still needed a plan, Hunter had forgotten to make one in his rush to get here.
"So? What's the plan?" Echo prompted his little brothers.
Hunter opened his mouth, then closed it. He had no idea what he was doing.
"Information gathering should come first. We want to know what we're dealing with here, both in terms of the people and the Pantoran we'll be talking to." Tech said.
"More like harassing." Echo grumbled under his breath.
Hunter gave him a side glare, which he ignored.
"I'll go-"
"No." He, Tech and Wrecker said in unison, cutting the former sergeant off.
"You are not mentally stable enough to handle this." Tech stated bluntly.
"You also look horrible, you'll scare everyone off." Echo added.
"I will go instead." Tech said.
Hunter tried to interrupt but Echo just spoke over him.
"Sounds good, I'll do some digging around with the locals." He said.
Again, Hunter tried to get a word in. This time Wrecker spoke over him.
"What should I do?" He asked.
"Keep Hunter on the ship." Echo ordered.
Hunter tried to object but Echo was faster.
"Maybe make him take another nap. He needs it." He added.
"Hold on!" Hunter shouted.
Echo made a point of looking down at him.
"Hunter, you're in no shape to do any good, you look like a walking corpse." He said before his little brother could object.
Hunter scowled at him, clearly thinking about ignoring him and going out anyway, he was probably going to pull rank. Echo placed his one hand firmly on Hunter's shoulder.
"Stay here, Ori'vod's(big brother's) orders."
XXX
Freyu caught a glimpse of the trooper, at least she thought he was a trooper, his armor was very different from the typical model, that had been tailing her whenever she came to town for the last week.
The first few days they had just watched her, occasionally showing up in a different spot but mostly stationary. She had felt the eyes on her the whole time.
Then they had moved and followed her a bit more and today, they were definitely following her.
They might have been trying to be inconspicuous, but their bright armor gave them away. Still, she carried on like she was unaware of her new shadow. She was way too observant to have not noticed them.
The Empire clearly had their eye on her, aside from the obvious that her brother and mother were once Jedi, she didn't know what they wanted or why she was so interesting to them. That definitely didn't warrant stalking in her opinion.
It was especially bad today because she'd brought Omega, disguised of course, with her. She had a very bad feeling about that trooper seeing Omega.
She rounded a corner and headed back to Alask's stall where Omega was waiting for her. The trooper followed her.
Freyu stamped her irritation down and booked it to Alask.
"Someone's following me." She said quickly in Massanese before they could come into hearing range.
"Do you know why?" Alask asked.
"No, think it's some Empire bullshit." She shook her head.
"Freyu!" Omega erupted from the back fo the stall and charged at her, slamming her body into her with a hug.
"Have fun with Alask, Jicelli?" She asked.
Fear briefly flashed through Omega's warm brown eyes before she nodded.
"Yeah, I had lots of fun!" She said, voice shaking.
Freyu heard and sensed the trooper closing in on her and pretended to still be unaware, right up until they got just that bit too close for comfort.
She turned on him with her arms crossed, smirking at the surprise she could see in his goggled eyes.
"Can I help you with something?" She prompted dryly.
"I…" he briefly glanced at Omega hiding behind her.
"I have a few questions for you." He said eventually.
Freyu groaned dramatically and scrubbed her face.
"I already got interrogated, your boss said you'd leave me alone after that." Freyu said.
"Yes, well there is something they forgot." He told her.
Freyu raised an eyebrow at his blatant lie. He wasn't a trooper, he was more likely a very bad bounty hunter. She gave his mind a subtle suggestion of confusion.
"Really? Where's the warrant?" She asked.
He froze for a second.
"Can't make me do anything without one of those." She said.
He glanced at Omega again, Freyu glared at him.
"You're talking to me, remember?" She reminded him.
He glanced at her with narrowed eyes.
"What is your name?" He asked.
"Go ask your boss." She snapped.
The man glowered down at her, she glared right back and tapped her foot irritably.
"Are you done? Gonna leave me alone yet?" She asked after a moment.
He didn't give her any response. It didn't even look like he was looking at her, his eyes flicked around slightly. He must've had some sort of H.U.D. in his helmet, so he was scanning her at the moment, she cocked her head at an angle that covered part of her tattoos. If he was going to scan her, she wasn't going to make it easy.
"If you aren't about to fuck off, then tell me what you really want." She said.
The man glanced away from whatever display he was looking at and frowned.
"Who are you?" He asked.
"Doesn't matter, fuck off." She ordered.
"The Empire-"
"Like I'm buying that, if you really worked for the Empire, you'd know my name." She cut him off.
"What? Do I look like someone who takes chances like that to you?" She asked, gesturing to the scarred side of her face.
"Now, if that's all, I've got to get going. I'm a very busy person." She said, waving him off dismissively.
"C'mon Jicelli, time to go home." She told Omega.
She put a guiding hand on the younger girl's shoulder as they started to walk away.
"Bye Alask, see you around." She waved to her friend.
She shot a glare over her shoulder at the man staring after them. She had a bad feeling about him.
"I don't wanna come to town for a while." Omega whispered to her once they were out of earshot.
"I think that's for the best." Freyu agreed.
XXX
Tech returned to the marauder hungry and frustrated with his lack of results over the past week. The most important thing he had learned was that the Pantoran was hyper vigilant and she was very wary of strangers.
He had tried running a scan on the markings she and the younger girl shared, seeing as they were family it could have given him something to work off of, but she had moved and concealed too much of it to be useful.
It seemed she was a very intelligent, cautious, and possibly paranoid, person.
With the context of the tattoo over her eye, she likely had good reason to be. Old Pantoran tattoos with simple slashes across the face were often done to symbolize betrayal.
As interesting as that was, he still had no leads on who she was and if the girl with her was his vod'ika.
Hunter won't be pleased. He sighed.
He could hear the argument before he opened up the hatch.
Echo and Hunter couldn't do anything else these days.
Hunter whipped towards him as he came in.
"Report." Hunter demanded.
"Nothing." Tech said shortly.
Echo groaned and threw his hands up, leaving the cockpit.
"Nothing? You have been out there for a week and you've learned nothing?" Hunter asked darkly.
Tech made a point of checking his mostly blank datapad before meeting Hunter's angry gaze.
"I did learn something, that Pantoran is smart and cautious. I am fairly certain that she will not be bringing the child with her for her next visit." Tech stated.
"Is that better?" He asked dryly.
He went around Hunter to the bunks so he could grab something to eat and go to sleep for a week.
Echo was in his hammock with his arm over his face.
"I don't suppose you learned anything useful?" Tech prompted his brother once he sat down to eat.
"She's a doctor of some kind, didn't really get much other than that. The locals trusted me about as much as she trusted you." Echo sighed.
"This is going to be difficult." He groaned.
"Really? I thought that much was obvious." Tech smirked at his older brother's glare.
XXX
Freyu sat across from Omega, legs crossed and hands resting on her knees.
They were meditating, it helped soothe Omega after a stressful event. She could sense the tension in Omega from their little run in earlier today.
Meditation was something she had started doing with her brother when he was around. He had said it would help her focus and it kinda worked. She had mostly used it as a way to check on Maatsu when he wasn't home.
She had stopped after he died since her mind would instinctively search for someone she couldn't find anymore. She had been a bit more regular with it lately but she was still training herself out of searching for Maatsu.
It was certainly helping Omega, and helping her understanding of Omega's condition.
Freyu didn't think her initial diagnosis of dissociative amnesia was correct anymore. She hadn't had much information at the time, so it was an easy enough mistake to make, but after almost four months of Omega living with her, it seemed a lot more like memory repression.
The memories were still there, somewhere locked off in her mind, they came to the surface in a confusing mess that was extremely difficult to make any sense of, but they were still there.
She hadn't ever had any real interest or reason to look into Omega's repressed memories, even when she started acting strange. Though her quick healing was certainly odd, she didn't need to find an explanation for it.
Until today.
The run in with that clone or bounty hunter or whatever was unsettling. The way he kept trying to get a look at Omega, it gave her a very bad feeling. He wasn't the first bounty hunter to go after Omega, she needed to know why so she could make a decision on what to do next.
She needed to get into Omega's head without triggering her, and she couldn't tell Omega exactly what she was doing. With the Empire and bounty hunters watching them, it was dangerous to reveal herself.
Though Omega probably suspected something was odd about her, she clearly knew when not to ask questions.
"Next time you go to Mlikix, can I stay home?" Omega's quiet voice broke through her thoughts.
Freyu smiled and nodded.
"Of course, if that's what you want." She said.
She felt Omega's tension melt away. While at the same time a stubborn nugget of some emotion remained.
"Thanks." Omega said softly.
"It's not a problem at all, Meg'ika." Freyu said.
XXX
Freyu didn't go to sleep when she put Omega to bed. She had far too much to do.
First on her nightly to-do list was to check the ammunition stocks hidden in various places around the house, and make sure the weapons stored with them still worked. They hadn't been checked or cleaned in a couple of years, so she should probably give each a quick cleaning.
She also had to check the security system and the house's defenses. Tesi had been managing them the last seven years, she could probably tap the droid to give the system a bit of a boost and a warning for intruders.
And once all that was done, she needed to make notes of what she had seen poking around in Omega's head today.
Then of course she had to train and stay on top of her orders. She could take a nap sometime before Omega woke up.
Freyu nodded to herself and went about her busy night.
She wasn't going to be caught with her guard down this time.
XXX
Freyu checked her surrounding before she stepped out into the street. That clone bounty hunter guy wasn't here today, she was safe enough right now.
She'd thought about telling the Empire about it's misbehaving troops, but she decided against it, she didn't want any more attention from them than she already had.
She crossed the street to Cai's shop. Someone in the family was always there, and she could easily contact him through it. And he was probably working somewhere nearby.
Eppur was sitting at the desk, he was definitely the type for the more in door side of work, but all of them took turns, Massii couldn't stand to be inside for too long.
"Freyu." Eppur eyed her with narrowed eyes.
"What have you gotten yourself into that you come here to contact us and not the ranch house?" Eppur asked, straight to the point as always.
"I'm being followed by someone, I don't know why." Freyu explained quickly.
She hadn't gone to their ranch because she didn't want to drag them any further into a possible mess than she had too. If someone was really stalking her, it was best for her to be discreet about everything.
"Would you like to borrow one of our birds?" Eppur prompted.
"If he's comfortable with that, I would greatly appreciate it." Freyu nodded.
"I'll let him know, head on back to pick a bird." Eppur told her.
Freyu quickly slipped behind the counter into the back room. There were a few birds of prey, but that wasn't the true purpose of this room.
She waited in the bird room until Cai came in through the back door.
"What do you need?" Cai asked.
"I need eyes, ears and information."
XXX
Freyu left the shop with a basket of the family's products, including a new blanket for Omega from Xillyn, xir first professional blanket.
She spotted something out of place immediately.
A human disguised as a droid. It was a decent disguise, though it wouldn't work on any species that could smell or sense what was really in there.
She got that same gut feeling she got with that bounty hunter impersonating a trooper from him.
He spotted her and started walking her way. Freyu headed towards the market, both for the safety in numbers there and to gather some things she needed for a surprise. She picked up her pace, but he caught up with her quickly.
She cursed her height.
"May I have a word?" The stranger asked politely.
Freyu rolled her eyes and kept walking.
"Have two, Fuck off." She snarled.
“I really do need to talk to you.” He said.
She whirled around, vibroblade in hand, and faced him.
He wisely didn't get any closer and actually took a step back.
“I don't know what your deal is with me and my sister, but you better fuck off before I really get pissed.” She growled.
“I'm just trying to talk.” He insisted, putting his hands up in defense.
Freyu glared at him. He may have only been talking but she knew the other wanted something from her.
“Tell your buddy to come out.” She ordered.
He hesitated a moment before motioning for his companion, the same guy who had been stalking her, to come out. The companion moved slowly and carefully, afraid of setting her off even more.
“Whatever you want here, you won't get it. Whoever you think my sister is, she's not. And I would be greatly appreciative if I didn't have to kill anyone, I just polished my blades and I don't want to deal with the bodies right now.” She said.
The disguised man lowered his hands and glanced at his companion. His companion gave him some signs, Freyu glowered at the pair.
“I'll do my best to convince them, I can't make any promises. I am very sorry for the inconveniences we've caused you.” He said.
“I won't poison you then.” Freyu said.
She sheathed her blade and continued down her path towards the market, catching the pair's confusion as she left.
“Did she say poison?”
“Yes. I did say she makes medicine, she must work with toxic healing plants.”
“That sure is good to know.”
She made a mental note to poison her blades for her next trip into town, just to be safe.
____________________________________________________________________________________________
I finally got them all on the same planet! It only took 15 chapters but I did it!This is where the fun begins alright!I'm so excited to be at this point in the story!
I realized Omega's situation is definitely more memory repression than any type of amnesia, so it's actually memory repression that she has, I'm still gonna use the name amnesia because that's what this is always called and in all my files it's amnesia and that's too many to change.
I hope you all have a good day, whatever that is for you!

Unknown to her, one is an infant Titan, and the other is a deeply scarred, traumatized "child from the stars" troubled by their past actions and unable to adress it. Between stories, playtime and scaming the masses, Eda tries piecing together the kids' story without directly asking anything and helping her new, traumatized ward adjust back to life and with their past while trying to ignore her own.

Omega doesn't know where she came from, or who she is. All she knows is her name and to distrust the Empire. She ends up on an Outer Rim planet sick and dying after being attacked by the native predators. By random chance, she lands in the path of a young Pantoran healer, Freyu O'asisk, and gets taken in by the older girl. With no recollection of any family or how she ended up on the Galaxy's furthest edge, Omega settles into a new life with her new guardian. It's certainly safer than whatever she was doing before, and Freyu is a Mandalorian, which is super cool. Her guardian definitely has her fair share of secrets, from where her family went to the strange ways she interacts with the planet, but those are none of Omega's concerns. She's happy to live a calm life with Freyu watching over her, she really likes having a cool big sister. All the while, the remaining members of Clone Force 99 scour the Galaxy for their missing sister and significant figures from both Omega and Freyu's past come back into their lives, bringing events they'd rather not remember back to the surface.
(Omega has trauma caused memory repression, not actual amnesia btw)

Bad Batch Amnesia AU Masterpost
____________________________________________________________________________________________
Freyu got to Mlikix very early in the morning, the sun hadn't even risen yet but she wasn't worried. She hadn't been bothered since giving her threat five days earlier, and the town would still have enough people around that she felt safe. And Cai would provide what she had requested.
Besides, it was a good day. It was a really great day.
Four months ago today, she had found Omega.
Tesi had been encouraging her to do something for it, a third of a year spent living with someone wasn't nothing. She had relented eventually and was now in town to pick up what she had gotten for Omega.
It was sorta like a birthday? They could call the original date she was found her birthday since they would likely never know when the date actually was, and that seemed appropriate, but waiting another eight months was way too long. She could ask what Omega thought of it too before making anything “official”.
Besides, Omega had been upset lately. Freyu could sense the churning emotions she was hiding, she wasn't going to force the answer out. This little celebration should cheer her up.
Freyu hadn't really celebrated anything in years, Maatsu was the one who liked to celebrate all those traditions and holidays. She hadn't really seen the point in celebrating when he wasn't there, she'd of course do something for Jicelli, but those celebrations always felt so hollow.
Then when Maatsu died they became empty reminders- Nope! She wasn't going there! This was going to be a good day.
She couldn't help the smile on her face as she picked up the crate from the shipping dock, and not just because of the worker's expression at her lifting the crate with ease, it wasn't that heavy anyway. No, she was giddy and smiling because… she hadn't really felt this happy in a while.
She was excited.
She hadn't felt this sort of giddy excitement in years.
Freyu made it back to her house without any incident. Her threat really must have worked wonders, maybe they had even left entirely. That would be nice.
…Maybe a little too nice given her history…
Freyu set the crate on the table and got to work.
XXX
Omega smelled something sweet as she sleepily came downstairs.
Freyu's making something tasty! That excitable, buzzy part of her brain said, silencing the heavy, bitter part that hung around the edges of her mind every time she woke up.
She smiled and excitedly descended, shaking off her negative headspace.
“What are you making Freyu?!” She asked as she jumped the last step.
Boa yipped and sat on her hind legs, licking her cheek with her slobbery tongue. She giggled while patting between the Chrysocy's horns. Cassony padded up and rubbed her legs, curling a tendril around her arm in her usual greeting. Omega made sure to give the older Chrysocy some love too.
“I'm making a surprise! Don't come in the kitchen, why don't you turn on the holonet and watch something, or practice some Mando'a.” Freyy instructed from the kitchen.
Omega peered around the corner and found the kitchen curtain had been drawn, blocking her view of whatever Freyu was doing.
The Pantoran suddenly popped out from behind the curtain and gave her a pointed look.
“No peeking Meg'ika.” She ordered sternly.
“Fine.” Omega huffed, crossing her arms for extra pouting effect.
“Nice try but I am immune to the effects of pouting.” Freyu said, tapping her nose gently.
“Now shoo, I'm busy.” She made a shooing motion and disappeared behind the curtain.
“You've got something in your hair!” Omega called out.
“I know!” Freyu called back.
Omega rolled her eyes and went over to the couch to watch something. She and Freyu had been watching the How To Train Your Mythosaur series together, she felt like watching that today.
Once the show started, Boa lept onto the caf table and curled around her feet. Then Cassony jumped up onto the couch and sat on her lap. And then Iri flew down and sat on her head.
Oh I see what they're doing. Omega scowled.
“You gonna have Asichi come sit on me too?” She shouted towards the kitchen.
“No, Asichi is helping me in here.” Freyu answered.
“Wait, what? Really?” Omega craned her neck to see if she could spot the horse's shadow.
“No, Meg'ika, I'm just messing with you. Asichi is out grazing. Tesi is helping.” Freyu told her.
Omega crossed her arms, to the best of her ability with Cassony laying fully on top of her, and tried to be angry. But Cassony was too cute to ignore and she quickly gave in to the temptation to pet the adorable creature holding her hostage.
It took a little while, and the smell from the kitchen was absolutely amazing. Sweet and spicy and citrusy smells were mixing together in a pleasant aroma that made her even hungrier.
“Freyu, are you going to tell me what you're making yet?!” Omega called out.
“Nope! Hey, what's your spice tolerance? Eh never mind, I think I have a pretty good handle on that.” Freyu called back.
Omega waited a little bit longer, catching spare bits of a conversation between Freyu and Tesi. From what she was hearing, Freyu was nervous about something, which was definitely strange, Freyu wasn't ever nervous, and Tesi was talking her down.
Soon after that, she heard the curtain get pulled open and, before she could react, hands covered her eyes.
“Freyu! What are you doing?!” Omega giggled.
“Making sure you don't peek.” Freyu said.
The Pantoran easily lifted her over the couch and set her on the ground.
“Okay and walk forwards, nothing's in your way.” Freyu told her.
Still giggling, Omega walked forwards with her arms out to feel for the table, though she trusted Freyu to keep her safe. She grabbed onto the table when she found it and stopped.
“Okay I'm taking my hands off but don't peek.” Freyu instructed sternly.
“Alright.” Omega agreed.
She heard Freyu step away and set something up before walking back around to her again.
“Open up.”
Omega opened her eyes to see the table filled with food and a very anxious Freyu.
“Is something important happening today?” She asked.
Freyu didn't make this much food at once unless they were having company.
“Oh! Well, you've been here four months today, Tesi suggested doing something and, well I guess I got a bit carried away.” Freyu said, anxiously fidgeting her fingers.
“You're acting funny.” Omega pointed out.
“I- yeah… I probably am.” Freyu chuckled nervously.
“So um, food! I made some food, what do you want?” Freyu asked.
Omega looked back to the assortment of options laid out for her?
Why would Freyu do all this for me? She knew how much trouble she had brought into her guardian's life.
Only a few options looked familiar to her.
“What is there?” she asked.
Freyu brightened almost immediately.
“There's lots of things. Tiingilar, it's usually really spicy but I made it less spicy for you, Cufiasnip, we've got some fruits from the greenhouse, and I made some tarts from Pantora! It's got raspberries in it.” Freyu pointed to the couple of tarts with blue and purple filling.
“I made an Uj'alayi too, oh, that's a type of cake, it's Mando'a. And there's some snowgrass soup, and I made a couple types of bread, so you can really just take what you want.” Freyu said.
Omega eyed her ori'vod. Freyu was definitely acting weird, but she was smiling and looked happy…?
“Aren't you going to tell her what this means before she partakes in this ritual?” Tesi prompted Freyu.
Her ori'vod's face flushed indigo with embarrassment as she turned on the droid.
“I was going to!” She shouted.
Freyu stubbornly turned away from the droid and looked down to her.
“Snowgrass is an important food for Pantorans, a snowgrass soup is a very… significant dish, even more so when it's being presented to someone outside the community or… or a family…” Freyu trailed off with her face turning purple.
“Okay… why are you being so weird still?” Omega asked.
Tesi rolled her electronic eyes and patted Freyu's shoulder.
“You're a mess, cyar'ika, let me handle this.” Tesi said.
“I'm not a mess.” Freyu huffed indignantly and crossed her arms.
Omega giggled, she didn't see Freyu pout that often, it was funny when she did, her cheeks puffed out and sometimes her cheeks turned purple.
“Cyar'ika, you're the color of a rue leaf.” Tesi chided before turning to her.
“What your ori'vod is failing to say without changing color is that this is a Pantoran welcoming ritual, they share significant foods to bring someone new into their family, and it's an offer of a gai bal manda, that's the mandalorian adoption ceremony. It's a welcoming into a family from both cultures, ad'ika.” Tesi said.
Adoption ceremony. Freyu wants to-
“What?” Omega looked to Freyu with wide eyes, surprisingly, her ori'vod almost looked scared. Freyu was never scared.
“You want me in your family?” She asked in astonishment.
She wasn't that great, not really. Her first family hadn't wanted her, she knew that very clearly now. With the bounty hunters and troopers and her unknown past, she was already far too much trouble for Freyu.
She had been too much for her first family, that's why they left her, threw her out and let the galaxy do what it pleased with their unwanted daughter.
Why would Freyu ever want her to join her family? Sure it was nice to think of Freyu as a big sister, but why would Freyu want her to worry about?
Why would Freyu want her when… when, when someone else clearly didn't!
Why would she want someone who had already been tossed out?
Omega felt tears on her face. When had she started crying? She rubbed the stubborn tears away.
“Omega? What's wrong?” Freyu asked, voice raising in alarm.
She turned on the Pantoran, crossing her arms. She couldn't speak, if she tried, her stupid emotions would overtake her and she'd be a sobbing mess. Something was telling her that response was wrong and shameful. Just another reason she was unwanted-
“Are… did I upset you?” Freyu whispered hesitantly, fearfully.
Why does she sound scared? That didn't fit with what she knew about Freyu, but then again, there was a lot she didn't know about Freyu.
“Why… why would you want me?” Omega asked.
“Meg'ika-” Omega didn't let her finish.
“Why would you want someone who no one else does?!” Omega balled her fists as the memory flashed through her mind once again.
She had begged. She had pleaded for them to stay. She had screamed for them to not leave her behind.
And they didn't listen.
She wasn't worth enough to keep around so they tossed her out and left her behind without so much as a second thought of what would happen to her after they flew off. They left her alone to fend for herself in that horrible, hostile place.
They abandoned her because she was so worthless!
“Why would you want someone worthless like me?!” She snapped, whirling around to face the Pantoran.
Freyu was kneeling in front of her, one hand over her mouth as she stared at her in shocked horror.
This is it. She knows how worthless you are now, she'll throw you out too! She thought bitterly.
“I found out why I ended up here.” She stated as bitter anger flowed through her body.
“Yeah, turns out whatever family I had didn't want me. I wasn't worth enough to them to keep around. I was too needy and costly for them! They never cared. They threw me, their stupid, dysfunctional, worthless freak of a child out the second it benefited them! They never even cared!” Omega screamed, she screamed in Freyu's face.
“So there it is! Now you know why I ended up here! They didn't want me!” She snarled.
She seethed, feeling the anger rush through her body with only silence ringing in her ears
“I want you.”
Omega looked up at the small, quiet voice. Freyu was still staring at her, Omega couldn't exactly read her expression, but she recognized anger somewhere in the mix. The rational part of her brain told her Freyu was angry at her first family, but she felt like Freyu was angry at her for the blow up.
“Why would anyone want me?” She scoffed.
“I want you.” Freyu repeated.
“uh huh, why? Give me one reason you would want me.” Omega growled.
“I love you.” Freyu said immediately.
All trace if rage or nervousness was gone from her face, there was only fierce determination.
Omega felt the brunt of her anger fade into confusion and pain, she was hurting inside, she didn't know why.
“Why?” was all she could think of to ask.
“Because I care about you. I love you.” Freyu said.
Omega stared up at those golden yellow eyes looking back down at her with such warmth and honesty. She could believe Freyu's words, her actions more than backed it up.
“You love me?”
Freyu leaned forwards and gave her a light keldabe.
“I love you, Meg'ika.” Freyu said.
Omega cried and hugged her ori'vod. A distressing mix of emotions churned around her insides, anger, confusion, grief, joy, relief, and a hundred others she couldn't name.
“Whoever those demagolka(real life monster) were, they deserve aar'ika(to suffer).” Freyu said.
“If I ever meet them, I will make them feel the pain they caused you.” She swore.
Omega nodded, as bad as it might be, she liked the idea in the moment.
“This is very sweet and all, but the food is going cold.” Tesi said.
Freyu groaned in the droid's general direction and got up.
“Let's get some food, vod'ika, we can talk about whatever you want while we eat.” Freyu said, holding out a hand for her, waiting for her unlike them.
Omega took the offered hand and rose off the floor.
“What's that mean anyway? Vod'ika, you keep calling me that.” Omega asked.
Freyu's face flushed again.
“Little sibling.” She admitted.
“And what's ori'vod?” She asked, she had been using it without knowing the meaning for a while now.
“Big sibling, or special, close friend. It's an important word, it has a lot of responsibility. It's every ori'vod's job to protect their vod'ika.” Freyu explained.
Omega hugged her again, feeling her tense up.
“You're a good ori'vod Freyu.” She said.
“You're a pretty great vod'ika too.” Freyu responded, patting her head lightly.
At Tesi's insistence, they quickly got to eating. Omega helped herself to a heaping serving filled with just about everything at the table that Freyu said she could eat. Some of it was naturally poisonous to her.
Everything was super tasty, each bite was packed full of flavor and it was the best meal she had ever eaten in her life.
Omega got more of the snowgrass soup and the blue and purple rice. It was fresh from Pantora, Freyu had picked it up this morning along with a few other things she had used to make this feast.
“Are Pantoran adoptions really this simple?” She asked.
Freyu glanced up and smiled.
“There's a bit more, the meal is a sign that you're welcome and if you accept, it's a celebration for the following inking ritual.” She answered.
“Inking?” Omega echoed.
“Tattoos, you get the family markings, at least that's how my family does it, I don't know how they do it on Pantora anymore, but that's how it used to be.” She said.
“Do I get a tattoo like you?” Omega asked eagerly, she really liked Freyu's tattoos.
“Oh, no, the flowers aren't ready yet. That's where we get the color from. But once I have it ready, you could do it if you want.” Freyu said.
“That's gonna be so cool!” Omega insisted.
Freyu chuckled and went back to eating.
“Are you forgetting about the gai bal manda?” Tesi asked, leaning towards them from her place at the table sipping some… thing, Omega honestly did not understand that droid one bit.
“No, I just haven't gotten there yet.” Freyu huffed.
“What's the gai bal manda?” She asked.
“You'll find out.” Freyu said cheekily.
XXX
Omega laid on the couch with an overly full stomach, Freyu had accidentally over-estimated how much humans could eat, Pantorans could eat much more. That just meant lots of tasty leftovers the next couple of days.
Freyu was finishing up with cleaning, she'd refused her help when she offered. Tesi had said something about her stalling which had Freyu shouting for Tesi to shut up with a purple face.
A few minutes later Freyu came out with a metal pot full of something. The pot was heavily decorated and looked really old. Freyu set it on the caf table and took a deep breath before turning to her.
“I'm going to let you know something that you can't ever tell anyone else, it's extremely important that you understand how secret this is.” Freyu insisted.
I knew there was something she wasn't telling me! Omega thought.
“Omega, this is serious, if it wasn't I would have told you already.” Freyu told her, snapping her fingers to get her attention.
She cocked her head to the side.
“How serious is it?” she asked.
“The Empire would try to kill me.” Freyu said.
Omega gasped, Freyu covered her mouth before she could say anything.
“I didn't say they would kill me, I said they would try to, okay?” She said.
Omega nodded and Freyu removed her hand from her mouth.
“You can't tell anyone about this.” Freyu said one last time.
She sat on her knees and closed her eyes, holding out her arms in front of her chest.
“Oh and stand back, don't wanna burn you.” She added.
Before Omega could ask what she meant, Freyu snapped her fingers and a blue spark burst forth from her hands, erupting into a blue and purple flame that danced above her finger tips.
She stared down at the flickering flame with a saddened smile, then glanced up to her and extended her hands, and the fire, towards her. Omega backed away from the definitely not normal fire and Freyu withdrew her hands, pulling the fire back close to her chest.
Her saddened face was illuminated by her own flames as she moved one hand from beneath the flame.
“I didn't lie to you… but I didn't tell you the truth either.” Freyu said after a moment.
With a flick of her free hand, part of the flame pulled away and danced around her fingers.
“Freyu… how are you doing this…?” She asked.
“You remember when I told you about Maatsu, right?”
She nodded.
“And when I told you about the Force?”
She nodded again.
“I can use it.” Freyu turned her head away as she spoke.
Omega stared at the fire and Freyu, the flames danced calmly as they hovered over her hand. A million questions raced around her head but only one came out.
“Like a Jedi?”
Freyu nodded.
“You said you couldn't be one.” She felt the need to point out.
“I was too old and emotionally unstable for them to be comfortable, my mom didn't make it very far there either. Guess they didn't want to have another failure like her.” Freyu said almost bitterly.
“Your mom was a Jedi? Why didn't she do well?” Omega asked.
“My mom didn't talk about her life much, I didn't know she was one until very recently.” Freyu admitted.
“Okay… so you can do the stuff Jedi can… why is that so bad? It doesn't seem like something that would get you into trouble.” Omega said.
Freyu sighed and closed her palm around the flame, she didn't extinguish it, but she made it incredibly small.
“Do you remember anything about the clone wars? Aside from what people have told you.” She asked.
“No… why? What happened?”
“Honestly I don't really remember, I never paid much attention to the war shit cause I didn't need to, there was just war one day, no war the next time I checked. But there was a bunch of nonsense about the Jedi being traitors, which I seriously doubt is true, and there's that purge you've heard about. I just assumed that the Empire wouldn't react so kindly to someone like me around.” Freyu said.
“It’s not so different from normal, I've never been open about this, I don't just walk around lifting stuff with my mind or starting fires, that isn't smart. I can usually get away with a lot of stuff because I live here and things are just like that here, but I really don't want the Empire finding out. I don't think it would be very fun.” She added.
They'll attack her! She already said they would try to kill her! Omega realized with a jolt of fear.
“They'll take you if they find out, won't they?” She guessed.
Freyu shot her a sympathetic look, nodding.
“They will probably try, but we don't have to worry about that, because they won't find out.” She said confidently.
Omega gave her a small smile and nodded. She would take this secret to her grave. She wasn't going to let anyone take her family away from her again.
Freyu smiled back.
“Alright, let's get on with this.” With a flick of her hand, the lid of the pot she brought in was removed and whatever was within was set ablaze by the spark in her hand.
The flames danced in front of her, bathing the room in a flickering blue and purple light.
“Are you ready?” Freyu asked.
“Yeah, I am.” I'm ready to be wanted.
Freyu took her hand and held it palm up over the fire. She could feel the heat on her skin, but she knew Freyu wouldn't let any harm come to her. A cool liquid was poured into the center of her palm.
“Once I say your name, we turn our hands over.” Freyu whispered.
Omega nodded.
Whatever was in their hands would go into the fire once it was done.
Freyu took in a deep breath and gave her a nervous, excited smile.
“Ni kyr’tayl gia sa’ad, Omega.”
Together, they turned their hands over and let the liquid trickle off into the flame below.
The fire surged, green flashed through the blue flame. For a moment, the flames enveloped her hand but she felt no pain. Freyu held her hand as the fire danced around them before settling back down.
Then she covered the pot again and the fire went out.
“Welcome to the family, Meg'ika.” Freyu said.
Omega slammed herself into her big sister's side and hugged her, Freyu hugged her back and patted her head.
“Just so you know, you're stuck with me forever now. Even if you hate me, I'm going to stick with you no matter what you say, so I hope you're ready to deal with me for the rest of your life.” Freyu teased.
“I wouldn't ever hate you.” Omega told her honestly.
Freyu raised an eyebrow.
“Just wait til I embarrass you in front of someone you have a crush on.” She said.
“Freyu!” Omega whined.
“Now that's more like it.” Freyu said, playfully ruffling up her hair.
XXX
Freyu glanced up from her book as Tesi came into the living room. She and Omega had been watching a movie and Omega fell asleep on her.
“It's good to see you like this again.” Tesi said softly.
“Huh? What do you mean?” Freyu asked the droid, shifting Omega's weight slightly to be more comfortable.
“Happy, peaceful. It's truly been too long since I've seen you comfortable in your own skin.” Tesi said with her literally shining smile glowing softly.
Freyu smiled down at Omega snuggled up next to her.
“It feels good too.”

Sun Wukong and Liu'er Mihou raise their daughter to the best of their ability, with plenty of help from their troop, neither celestial monkey had parents of their own. All the while, the what ifs and worries persist in their minds and Sun Wukong is no longer the only one who has to pay for his past actions. But his little light would be okay, who would be crazy enough to attack the Monkey King's child anyway.
The Monkeys have a kid and struggle with kid's health and miscarriage stuff, mostly happy monkey family fluff!

Chapter 9 - Life Day
Kaesoka family AU
summary: Ahsoka, Kaeden and their shipmates celebrate Life Day. Which is a lot harder with kids running around trying to help.
Word count: 3.3k
Warnings: none! It's pure fluff!
A/N: A Life Day chapter in March?! Yes, it was supposed to be for the holidays but it's late so \ (ツ) /
I'd like the winter to come back. Spring means grass and that means allergies and That means I can't do my college work. I also don't like the heat, my preferred temperature range is like 40 to 66 with wind cause I hate getting too hot.
Anyway, enjoy the fluffy out of season gays.
Kaesoka Family AU Masterpost
____________________________________________________________________________________________
Kaeden pulled her hair over her shoulder, keeping it out of her teething baby’s grasp. Padmé grunted and wiggled unhappily in her baby carrier.
She sighed and tried to ignore the little kicks to her back as she rolled the maij leh (Togruti: meat leaf) Ahsoka had managed to acquire on her last supply run.
The thin, soft chewy fungus was an ideal teething toy, at least until they got their hands on a proper teething toy. Due to the Empire's xenophobia, many species had taken their more odd products off the galactic market, they didn't have the fuel to spend on a trip all the way out to Shili for a chew toy.
She dipped her finger in the sticky paste that came with it and applied a generous portion to the end to hold the little roll together.
Her baby fussed more as she went to the table and set her down. Padmé gave her a huffy glare and snorted at her.
“Oh calm down, I'm done.” Kaeden told her, handing off the teething treat to her daughter.
Padmé eagerly took it and started chewing happily on the faux meat.
Her teething was just about to enter the phase where it would start hurting and the maij leh would do less for her. They needed to get a teething toy soon.
She sat with Padmé and waited for everyone else to get up, she had always been an early riser. Padmé took after her in that way.
She biologically took after Ahsoka, she behaved and had many more Togruta traits than human ones, her digestive system for example was similar to Ahsoka’s, though at the moment it looked like it could digest things outside of a carnivorous diet. They obviously hadn't tried anything too risky yet, they didn't want a sick baby on their hands. The only thing that gave away that she was a hybrid was the fluffy hair covering her back lek, and some of that hair was blue. With the Empire's attitude towards human hybrids, it was probably for the best.
Zevra said from experience that hybrids were widely variable in which traits they took from each parent, usually the more useful ones were selected. The majority of human hybrids would inherit the more alien features, there were exceptions that looked more human, but because the alien features were more useful, the very basic human traits frequently got overridden.
For hybrids between aliens, it was a lot more variable, but tended to follow along the same lines of trying to select the best traits for survival.
Some hybrids would look exactly like one parent just with their other's skin coloring.
Padmé was definitely one that took after her alien parent.
Luckily, that made her easier for medicines and vaccines once she got old enough for them.
Padmé kicked her little feet as she gummed the maij leh. Right on cue, something fell a few seconds later with a crack that rang out through the ship. It sounded like glass.
Kaeden sighed and picked Padmé back up to go check what her daughter had managed to knock over this time, with the broom and dust pan.
Her budding Force powers were definitely strong.
She came upon a broken glass cup that had been left out and subjected to Padmé’s untrained power. She cleaned it without much trouble and dropped the shards into the trash compactor.
Padmé started making her hungry noise, so she sat down to feed her.
Togrutas stayed on breastfeeding for a bit longer than humans, it was uncommon to start weaning at six months, unless there was no one to feed them, but their diet should stay more milk than not until over a year old. Teething chews didn't count as part of weaning. Kaeden was thankful that Togruta instinct told babies to stop biting around the time they developed teeth, it would have been a very painful process otherwise.
She settled in and waited for either Ahsoka to wake up or for Zebra and Rinu to come back.
The couple and their family were supposed to be back this morning with everything necessary for a proper Life Day celebration.
Zevra celebrated the Wookiee holiday the same way it was celebrated on Kashyyyk due to her upbringing under a kind old Wookiee, Gweersuw. They had taken her from a shitty orphanage on her birth planet and taken her in as their own cub.
Zevra had spent more of her life with the old Wookiee than she hadn't, the woman was practically a Wookiee herself. She was raised on Kashyyyk before the war and was well versed in shyriiwook. She'd even planned to take Kanbi back with her before her life took a turn for the worse.
Kaeden didn't know all the details but by the end of it, Kanbi was dead and Zevra had two infants and a freshly traumatized son.
Zevra hadn't seen or heard a thing from Gweersuw since shortly after meeting Rinu.
Sadly, it was looking unlikely that Zevra would ever see Gweersuw again.
The Empire's treatment of the Wookiees and the subjugation of Kashyyyk was a pretty bad sign.
The proximity alert went off, she pulled up the security feed, Rinu and Zevra were back.
A few minutes later, Xan was running through the halls to tell her all about what they were doing. The little boy loved to tell anyone who would listen about his day.
He jumped onto the bench next to her, practically shaking with excitement.
“Aunt Kay! We got a tree! A real tree! We've never had a Life Day tree before! Isn't it the best?!” The young boy exclaimed loudly.
“That does sound awesome.” She agreed.
Raada didn't have many trees, the moon had been mainly grasslands and rocky out-crops. The idea of having a tree in her home was a strange one to Kaeden.
“Yes, and it'll be more awesome if you watch your siblings while we set it up.” Zevra said suddenly grabbing her son by his waist and lightly tossing him over her shoulder.
The boy giggled gleefully, trying to squirm out of his mother's grip. Zevra dropped a box onto the table.
“That's for you and your trouble makers.” She said with a wink.
“Thanks…?” Kaeden said.
The Tholothian headed off to the main room of their new base, which probably wasn't the intended application of that space, it was just the biggest room they had cleaned up and remodeled so far, serving as a play and family room for now.
Kaeden got up with the box and headed back to her room to wake Ahsoka if she wasn't up already.
Seriously, how much sleep does a Togruta need? She shook her head, sighing affectionately.
Luckily for Ahsoka, she was awake when Kaeden got there.
“Well, well, well, look who's finally up.” She said, leaning against the door frame.
“Shut up.” Ahsoka groaned.
Kaeden chuckled, walking in and dropping the package on their bed.
“Early gift from Zevra, she says it's for my trouble makers.” She smirked.
Ahsoka rubbed her face with an annoyed sigh. Kaeden set the package on their bed, sitting down to plant a kiss on Ahsoka's cheek.
“Wanna see what she got us?” she asked, resting her head on Ahsoka's shoulder.
Ahsoka opened the box. Three ice blue sweaters with white snowflake patterns on the front and matching blue sweatpants.
“She got us matching life day sweaters!” Kaeden laughed while Ahsoka cringed.
"Please no, the last time I tried that; Anakin and Obi-Wan ended up fighting the whole night and back to the temple!" She groaned.
"They were really that bad?" Kaeden asked through her chuckling.
"The. Worst." Ahsoka nodded seriously.
"If they were that awful, then we can't do worse." Kaeden winked and nudged Ahsoka.
The Togruta chuckled then stopped for a second, wincing as Padmé chomped onto her hand while aiming for one of her lekku.
"Looks like the little joy is also a little pain." Ahsoka joked.
"Oh if she's anything like you she'll be a bigger pain when she's a teenager." Kaeden teased.
Ahsoka rolled her eyes. Kaeden laughed.
"So, should we help set up?" She asked.
"Yeah, they’ll need all the help they can get." Ahsoka agreed.
XXX
Setting up for a proper Life Day celebration was definitely a challenge with and eager to help and more eager to please six year old, a pair of well meaning toddlers and a Force sensitive baby who didn't know what was going on and kept dropping things.
Luckily, Padmé couldn't get anything too high of the ground, she'd only reach about an inch before she'd give up and look for something more entertaining.
It was chaos.
Ahsoka loved every bit of it.
It reminded her of the chaotic parties Anakin threw for the 501st.
She was currently hanging up lights in the main room with the Force because no one else could reach. Padmé was sat in the couch, distracted by Aatoo. The yellow and green Tooka was sitting above her with his tail dangling down in front of her face. Padmé giggled and tried to grab it, the tail retracted just out of reach then came back down. He brushed his tail through the fuzzy hair on her head and ruffled it up.
Padmé reached above her to grab the tail but ended up falling back. In a flash, Aaato was behind her and keeping her from falling. Padmé giggled and hugged him.
Ahsoka felt the joy her daughter had as she sent it out through the Force. She was a little beacon of light.
"Ahsoka, Padmé's cute and all but your in the way." Rinu said with a very noticeable tease in her voice.
Ahsoka blushed as she moved out of the way. Zevra came from one of the makeshift storage rooms, stopping Rinu as she passed.
“Have you seen the Life Day Orb? It's not where I put it.” She said.
Ahsoka glanced around for the orb, missing Rinu’s response. She heard Aatoo’s collar jingle, glancing at her daughter revealed the Tooka was suddenly gone from the scene. Padmé was gleefully babbling, crawling towards the Life Day Tree in the corner of the room.
“Zevra, I think your cat stole it.” Ahsoka said, spotting the yellow feline hidden in the tree.
Aatoo hissed and yowled at her ratting him out.
“You little shit!” Zevra exclaimed, fishing her Tooka out of the tree.
The mischievous feline had the orb clutched in his paws, he hissed at Zevra, tail lashing wildly, when she took the orb from him.
“Cats.” Zevra rolled her eyes.
XXX
Their Life Day was spent celebrating, exchanging gifts, eating and telling stories.
Miara had been able to stop by, bringing Artoo with her. The little devil had pestered Bail until he let him visit them for the holiday. She also came with Iolanthe, a Mikkian pilot friend of hers.
Kaeden didn't pay much attention to the story Miara and Iolanthe were currently telling all the kids who could pay attention, basically everyone but Padmé, she was content to sit back and enjoy the relatively peaceful atmosphere.
She kept an eye on Padmé of course, watching her eagerly crawl after Aatoo, who was sitting on Artoo to make the little game more interesting.
She pulled her loose hair up into a half-hearted bun, just to get it off her back. She felt Ahsoka's warm hands on hers.
“Mind if I take care of that?” Ahsoka offered, settling in next to her.
"Not at all." Kaeden smiled to herself and leaned into Ahsoka.
Her wife was braiding her hair back if the rhythm of gentle tugs was anything to go by. She left out the smaller braids by her face that Xan had done earlier.
“I have something for you, it's an old Togruta custom I'd like to share with you.” Ahsoka said almost nervously.
“Why Soka, are you nervous?” She teased, casting a cheeky glance at her wife.
Ahsoka scowled with a noticable tinge in her cheeks. She grumpily made her face forward again.
Her wife mumbled to herself as she wove something into her braids. Kaeden held back a snicker.
Ahsoka tied off her hair with a huff, Kaeden leaned back and kissed her cheek.
“It's cute when you're huffy.” She said.
She blushed and pushed her face away. Kaeden giggled and grabbed her around her waist, pulling her wife closer, resting her head on her shoulder. Ahsoka purred, loudly much to her embarrassment.
“Kaeden!” Ahsoka squealed, her face turning a deep blood orange.
“It's cute that you purr.” Kaeden told her.
“It's embarrassing!” Ahsoka exclaimed.
“And cute.” Kaeden kissed her cheek.
The Togruta shut up for a few minutes, stewing in flustered embarrassment.
Kaeden played with the end of her braid, Ahsoka had intertwined a dark orange ribbon woven from material she'd never seen before into her hair. Glancing back at her moody wife, she saw that Ahsoka had a similar ribbon tied around her left montral.
“What are these?” She asked.
“It's this Togruta custom, apparently you make a ribbon from this hard to gather material, it's kind of like a silk I guess? I don't know it was hard to find for a decent price, but you make a ribbon with it and then you weave it or tie it to the headdress of loved ones. I don't know exactly what the reason is but it also asks the Shili gods for protection, specifically this one called Grut Daaark (Togruti: hunter moon), I think she's pretty important, but these ribbons are supposed to be for affection and protection.” Ahsoka rambled, it was cute to see her so interested in something.
“Thank you, it's very pretty.” She thanked her wife with a kiss on the cheek.
“Would you like me to get yours?” She asked, gesturing to the other ribbon in her wife's lap.
With her permission, she took Ahsoka's headdress off and wove the ribbon around the front of it, leaving a long tail on either side.
“Can you sit in front of me?” She requested.
Ahsoka shot her a confused glance as she moved to sit in front of her. Kaeden set the headdress back in its place, she took the long ribbon tails and wrapped them around Ahsoka's back montral, tying it off right enough to be secure but not restricting.
“There, now we match.” Kaeden said, leaning over Ahsoka's shoulder.
“Thanks Kay.” Ahsoka gave her a quick kiss.
Kaeden glanced down at the other ribbon in Ahsoka's hands.
“Is that one for Padmé?” She asked.
“Yeah, but it's not recommended to give to babies until they're a bit older. They try to rip it off. Or eat it.” She said.
“That's a smart call.” Kaeden hummed.
Right as she said that, Artoo came back over to them with Padmé on his head. Aatoo must have made a break for it.
The astromech tilted forward, dropping the infant into Ahsoka's lap.
Before they could process what was happening, the droid's camera flashed and he snapped a picture of them. He let out the droid equivalent of a chuckle at whatever the picture looked like. Kaeden rubbed her eyes, glaring at the little metal devil.
Padmé clapped her hands gleefully at the droid’s prank.
A few embers suddenly sparked out of her clapping hands.
She stopped with a curious coo, examining her hands.
Kaeden stared in shock as her daughter clapped her little hands again.
A small red flame spurted from her clapped hands.
Padmé giggled and went to clap again, Kaeden quickly grabbed her daughter's hands to stop that from happening again. Her baby looked up at her with a peek baby confused face.
“Um, what was that?” Miara's voice had her noticing everyone staring at them.
“Pyrokinesis?” Ahsoka offered nervously.
“That's a thing?” Kaeden whispered.
“It's not super common, it's one of those things you kind of have to be born with to use, or really, really extensive training.” Ahsoka explained.
“Is she gonna burn the place down?” Rinu asked, looking understandably concerned.
“Nah, this old place is definitely fire proofed.” Zevra told her.
“I don't think she can make much more than sparks right now.” Ahsoka assessed.
“So it should be okay?” Kaeden wondered.
“Yes. I think so.” she nodded.
“That's good enough for me.” Miara shrugged and went back to the game she was playing with Iolanthe and the kids.
"Are you going to be trouble for mommy?" Ahsoka asked, wiggling their daughter's little hands.
Padmé made spit bubbles and nodded.
"Are you going to be adorable while you do it?" Kaeden cooed, tickling under her chin.
Padmé nodded again then, with a suspiciously naughty Ahsoka like smile, tried to clap.
Ahsoka caught her hands, earning the ire of their baby.
XXX
Gweersuw glanced up at the hooded stranger who entered her cave. She hadn't expected any company, sad, it was Life Day, Life Day wasn't meant to be spent alone, it was meant to be spent with family.
And in an interesting twist of fate, family was here.
Perhaps a sign from the Force, she wasn't Force sensitive herself, but she understood it well enough. She was no Lohgarra, but she had been around for a while, her time taught her much about the workings of the Force.
Considering a dead man stood before her, it really did work in mysterious ways.
“As relieved as I am that you are alive, I would have preferred to meet at a better time.” She scolded in her native language.
The Jedi nodded, observing her sparse dwelling.
“It appears that you are preparing to flee.” He commented.
The Wookiee crossed her arms and growled, “yes, I am going to find my cub and any others of my kind who have escaped. My home world is in trouble.”
The Jedi gave her another nod.
“Your cub has a rebellious spirit, from what you have told me. I am certain she has found a way to survive and protect her family.” The Jedi said.
Gweersuw frowned, she'd known this Jedi for a long time, since he and his master visited the home world. She knew when he was something on his mind.
“Spit it out, I know when you have a plan.” She growled assertively.
“Perhaps in your search for you cub, you could help me find a safe place to lay low. There are a few things I am set on accomplishing before I even think about getting killed by the Empire." He said.
Gweersuw sighed.
“Fine, you may join me. Just don't attract the hounds.” She said gruffly.
“Thank you for your kindness, Gweersuw.” The Jedi said bowing his head in thanks.
Gwerrsuw's hard, annoyed expression softened as the Jedi's hood slipped off and exposed his injuries.
Burns and scorch marks covered his face. He was missing some of his skull near the crown of his head in the back and looked like he had patched together a breathing mask with whatever he could find and likely somehow got illegal, rudimentary cybernetics to make up for the damage.
He looked nothing like the way he used too physically, a good thing since that would mean he was less recognizable, but Gwerrsuw could see and practically feel his spirit.
It was much like it had been when this Jedi was a mere padawan in the beginnings of his training. Just as committed to justice and equality and just as caring and understanding, yet a thousand times more wounded and broken.
It didn't take a Jedi to see how hurt a being was, all it took was experience and knowledge.
And the wounded Jedi in front of her was broken in so many ways.
Gwerrsuw smiled as the Jedi sat down, remembering when he came to her as a young Padawan for help with cuts and bruises, or a cracked mask.
"You are hurt, young one. Let old Gweersuw heal you."

I wonder who that Jedi could be 🤔

Word count: 6.4k (totally didn't forget this)
Warnings: Swearing, manipulation, child abuse, trauma, denial, sick kid.
A/N: a 3/4 baked fic for a 3/4 baked AU! The Collector is a traumatized baby now, you're welcome.
He Hatched (art/AU explination), Eda raises two gods AU here. Ao3 link here.
________________________________________________________________________________
Someone was on the island.
There was a stranger.
They sat up and checked on their brother, he was sleeping soundly. He was a heavy sleeper. That was good.
They picked him up gently and carried him over to his little hidey hole, placing him securely in the soft fabric of their hat. He liked sleeping in their hat.
They scratched between his horns and he cooed softly. They chuckled, he was so cute.
They left him sleeping while they went to check out the intruder.
The Guard was making it's rounds. It must not have detected the threat yet.
Small rocks fell far ahead. Cursing followed, sounds echoing through the empty stone halls.
They snuck closer, flying so as not to alert the intruder to their presence.
They caught a glimpse of orange near the entrance. There was someone in their home.
"Who's there?!"
They backed out of the sudden beam of light shot towards them. They didn't like others in their home.
"Go away." They called out.
The light swivled towards them, they covered their eyes and hissed.
"Wha- you're a kid! What are you doing here?" The stranger asked.
They backed out of the brightness and got a better look at the stranger.
She was a witch, she had fluffy short orange hair, was wearing a lot a red, had an owl staff, and somehow had a familiar presence.
"I live here with my baby brother, we're waiting for Dad to come back." They said.
Dad is coming back! He is, he is! He's not the Isles, he's not! Philip lied. He's a liar, liar pant on fire! Dad's coming for us! He pinky promised! They swore to themself.
The witch gave him a sympathetic look, pity. They didn't like pity, they didn't want it.
"Go please, you'll wake my brother, then he'll be upset and I'll be upset." They told the witch.
"It's raining, kid, I can't do that." The witch gestured outside at the rain.
They cocked their head to the side.
"I can go in rain. Dad can too. What's wrong with you?" They asked.
"Your pop must have one hell of a protection spell." The witch chuckled.
"Protection spell? No, no, I don't need that." They shook their head.
The witch gave him another strange look.
"You are a weird kid, aren't you?" She prompted.
"Rude." They stuck their tounge out.
The witch did it back.
"I'll help you go." They said.
The witch was from the Isles, they could send her there easily.
"Bye." They snapped their fingers and she was gone.
The island was safe.
He was safe.
He would always be safe here.
XXX
Eda ignored the persistent itch in her mind to the best of her ability. The Owl Beast had been rearing it's ugly head ever since she found the island with that strange kid on it.
She'd be lying if she said she wasn't the least bit concerned about them, they were young, about eight she'd say, and they had a baby brother, and they were living on an isolated, remote island in the middle of nowhere.
The kid had gotten her back to the Isles with just a snap of their fingers, whatever they were, they were insanely powerful.
Maybe that's why they're hiding. Most dangerous, powerful demons have gone into hiding since Belos took over. Maybe it's better to leave this alone. She thought.
The Owl Beast scratched at the mental wall between them, surfacing again. Shit, the bird brain was getting annoying.
That kid's dad probably isn't coming back. She sighed.
It was a very high likelyhood that the kid's dad was dead somewhere. She could only assume that they had no other parent as she would've seen them instead of the kid.
The Owl Beast barked at her. She groaned and set down the human toy she was fixing to sell at the markets. Three days of dealing with the bird brain had drained her patience.
"Alright, what do you want me to do about it?" She asked rhetorically.
She certainly had not been expecting an answer.
"Feed, warm, safe." The voice was raspy and sore sounding.
She couldn't believe what she was hearing. The Owl Beast, the vicious, wild animal living in her head wantes her to feed and take care of some random kid?!
"How am I supposed to do that Bird brain?! I don't even know how to find that island! It popped up out of nowhere!" She shouted.
Titan, she must look crazy, just a crazed witch, pacing her living room and talking to herself.
"Know it, I'll find." The beast said.
"Whoa, slow down, you'll guide, not find." She said.
"So we go?" The energy in her head almost felt like a puppy begging to go out on a walk.
Eda slouched down onto the couch, she was tired and if this could make the stupid thing shut up, it might as well be worth the try.
"If we go, will you shut up?" She asked.
She could almost see the smirk on the stupid bird's face.
"Ugh, you're gonna kill me, bird brain." She grumbled.
XXX
The witch was back. She had a big bag today, it wasn't raining.
They stuck close to the shadows, watching her scan the entrance to their home, the crumbling building gave plenty of places to hide.
"Hey kid, are you here?! I've got some, I dunno, they're snacks for most demons, maybe you'll like it?" The witch called out.
She sat down on the ground and started laying the objects in her bag out. There was food there, he needed food, he couldn't go nearly as long as they could without food. And toys and something soft.
Maybe a little peek wouldn't hurt.
They snuck closer and grabbed the nearest object. It was a big round fruit with a tough skin. They'd had it before. Their stomach rumbled with three hundred years of hunger.
They tore into the tough flesh, sweet juices washed over their tounge as they ripped out a large chunk. They swallowed quickly, barely chewing it. Their stomach eagerly accepted the food, it'd been so long since they'd eaten!
Half way through the fruit, a chunk got stuck in their throat. They gagged and coughed until it was dislodged and they spat it out.
"Whoa, slow down, there's plenty of snacks, you don't need to eat so fast." The witch warned them.
Wait. How long had they been sitting out in the open? Had they not thought to retreat after claiming their meal? Foolish.
They eyed the witch with distrust. She didn't seem like a liar, but neither had Philip at first.
They edged away from her, holding their food close to their body.
"I'm not gonna take it, I brought it for you." She told him.
She picked up a crab apple that had been set out and started eating it. Determining she wasn't a threat, yet, they sat back down to keep eating.
When they were done, they found another of the same fruit had been rolled over to them. They snatched it up and ate.
"I take it you like Blossom Bat fruit?" The witch guessed.
"Blothom Bat fruit?" They echoed around a mouthful of food.
"Yeah, that's a Blossom Bat fruit, blossom bats really like them so it got named after them I guess." She shrugged.
"They're pretty easy to find and cheap, I always have some around the house." She said.
"Mmm." They nodded.
They'd never known what it was called, just that they liked it. He would like it too.
"How did you find us?" They asked.
"Got some help from an annoying little bird." The witch pointed to her head.
They didn't know what that meant.
"I brought some stuff I figured kids would need or like, just in case you wanted it." She told them.
They nodded again. There was a dead jackalope sitting near them.
"Did you catch and stuff that yourself?" They asked, pointing to it.
"Uh, no. Why would I give a kid a stuffed dead body? That is a plushie." She said, looking slightly horrified.
"Plushie?" They tilted their head slightly.
"Do you not know what that is?" She asked.
They shook their head 'no'.
"Oh. Well, it's a soft toy made from fabric, this one's made from some real fuzzy and tough fabric, and then filled with stuffing, it's this soft fluffy white stuff that makes it squeezable and soft. So it's a toy. A lot of people sleep with them cause they're so soft." She explained.
They examined the jackalope plushie for a few seconds, then reached over and picked it up. It was very soft, it felt nice on their fingers, it was very lightweight and it smelled good.
"You can have that if you want, I'll see if I can find a smaller one for your brother." She said.
They examined the size, it was about his size, maybe a little bigger.
"No, this is good for him." They told her.
"Okay, whatever you want kiddo." She said.
She smiled at them, one of her fangs was shiny and golden. They hadn't been smiled at in a long time. It felt nice.
They talked with the witch for a few more hours, she explained all the new things she'd brought that they'd never seen before, then she left, declaring it was late, and she promised to come back again, with more toys. It had been nice to talk with someone again.
They took the blanket with the toys and snacks wrapped up in it back to their room, deep inside the building.
He was just stiring as they got back, he slept a lot. He'd probably eat a lot too if there was food. They were glad the witch brought food, they didn't know how long he could go without it.
He scampered over to them, his little tail wagging happily. They scooped him up and took him to their hanging bed.
"I've got some food for you now, buddy." Them told him.
They still hadn't given him a name, they were waiting for Dad to come back so they could name him together.
They pulled out a crab apple and split it into smaller pieces, then handed it off to him. He munched it down instantly and held his hands out for more.
They got all the snacks seperated from the toys so he didn't accidentally eat any and gave him all the food they figured was safe for him.
Watching their little brother fill his stomach until he couldn't eat anymore made them feel happy. With him fully fed for the first time since he had absorbed his yoke, his internal food supply, he fell right asleep.
They giggled and picked him up into their lap, he was always so warm.
"A witch came by today, she brought all the food, and she brought toys for us to play with. I think she's coming back soon." They whispered softly.
They grabbed the jackalope plushie and held it next to him close to their chest. They breathed in the soft warm scent and closed their eyes, cautiously hopeful of what was to come.
XXX
The witch had been visiting every couple of days for the past couple of months, she always had food and toys of some kind for them to play with while she was gone.
They liked the witch. She made them feel happier, they felt comfortable with her around, she felt warm and honest and safe.
They hadn't felt safe in such a long time, they'd almost forgotten what it really felt like.
The witch felt entirely different from Philip, he'd felt cold from the very start, something had been off, there was a gut feeling that told them not to trust him, but they had. They'd been tricked and lied to and hurt.
Their lip stung where their scar was, Philip had hurt him, they didn't want to be hurt again. They were hopeful that the witch wouldn't hurt them or their brother.
They looked up as the witch landed outside their home, she was carrying a bag as usual. They waved to her happily. They liked it when she came. They liked it a lot.
"Hey kiddo, how ya been?" She asked.
"I'm good, my brother likes the jackalope a lot, and he used the coloring book book the other day and I drew this!" They held up their paper in her face.
They'd drawn her and her owl buddy. They really liked it and hoped she did too.
"Do you like it!?" They asked.
"Whoa kid, this looks better than my wanted posters, you are really good at drawing." She reached her hand out towards them, they froze, panic gripping them, they flinched.
Nothing happened.
"Did I scare you? I didn't mean too. I was just gonna pat your head, I should've asked first."
They blinked and stared at her in disbelief. She appologized? She stopped and she appologized? To them?
Nobody had done that for centuries.
"Um... thank you..." They whispered.
"No problem kiddo, I don't really like people touching me either." She told him.
The rest of the day went nice. The witch told them stories and made little visuals with her magic. It was nice.
"Hey, what's your name anyway kid?" The witch asked as she was preparing to leave.
"I..." They didn't know how to respond to that.
When Philip had asked what they were called, they'd said they were the Collector, that's what all the witches and demons called them, but they didn't really like that title, it didn't fit them any more. Dad called them Enzo, yeah, they could give the witch that name. They liked it more.
"My dad calls me Enzo." They said.
The witch smiled.
"I call myself the Owl Lady. See you around, Enzo." She waved and took off.
Owl Lady. I like that.

It was raining today, again. A big storm had formed over the seas and was bombarding Bonesborough with boiling rain.
Eda paced her living room, the storm was so bad here, she could only imagine how it was on that tiny little island Enzo and their brother lived on. And it was driving her crazy that she couldn't do anything about it.
The Owl Beast was shouting at her again, it had been shouting since the storm started, telling her to find the young and bring them to the safety of her nest, since their nest was not a good place.
She still didn't understand the Owl Beast's interest in the kid, the bird quieted down when she was on the island and resurfaced every couple of days to tell her to go back.
Eda felt this increasing sense of worry over Enzo, she didn't understand it, or why she was compelled to keep going back without the influence of the Owl Beast. Perhaps the kid had grown on her?
Psht, yeah right. Like some kid could weasle their way into the heart of the fearsome Owl Lady.
Nah. The most powerful witch on the Boiling Isles didn't care about some random, abandoned, hungry, lonely, likely traumatized, kid raising their brother alone on an island in some vain hope that their father was coming back for them.
Well, when put like that, maybe she did care, just a little.
Or maybe a lot.
She sighed and slumped against the wall, tapping her finger on the topaz embedded into her dress. She felt the Owl Beast pushing for her to go, brave the storm and find Enzo.
Something in her gut told her something was wrong. She just had a feeling Enzo needed help.
"Fuck, I must be crazy." She groaned.
She stood off the ground and went to the basement where she usually brewed her potions, and stored random things that she might need at one point or another. She grabbed a knapsack and put a few kid friendly healing potions in it, she snatched up some healing plants she had, just in case she needed them. She grabbed a few other potions that might come in handy, then went to the kitchen.
She took a few Blossom Bat fruits from the bowl on the counter, she snagged two packs of crab apple sauce, it was the closest thing to baby food she had. Then she went to the living room and grabbed two blankets, one for Enzo and one for their brother. She put on her red cloak and fastened it securely.
All of this preperation was just in case the kid needed it, just in case.
She took a deep breath and cast her protection spell before opening the door to face the storm.

Eda spotted the entrance to the tower Enzo lived in and immediately felt something wrong. She just didn't know what.
She landed at the key shaped entrance and spelled a few witch lights. The atmosphere of the place felt off. There were the little statues everywhere, as always.
"Enzo?! Enzo! It's me! It's Eda the Owl Lady!" She called out into the shadowy ruins.
She went in further, she had never gone very far in since Enzo was always waiting for her at the front. She caught the scent of fear, it was heavy and gave her more reason to worry. She hoped nothing bad happened to them.
"Enzo! Are you okay?! Is something wrong?!" She called out again.
Her ears picked up fast movement. She lowered her staff and turned just in time for Enzo to ram into her. She was almost knocked off balance by the sudden force.
Wait a second. Was Enzo crying?
She looked down at Enzo, who'd buried their face into her dress, sure enough, the poor kid's body was shaking and trembling as they cried. She didn't know what to do, she'd never dealt with this. She tried to remember what Lily did whenever she was upset as a child.
She put her hand on Enzo's shoulder, got on their level and gently coaxed their head up. She panicked seeing Enzo's upset face.
Shit! Shit! Shit! What do I do? What the fuck do I do?
Help them! Comfort them! Get them to tell you what's wrong! The Owl Beast screeched at her.
For once, she was thankful for the bird brain, mostly it's instinctive parental knowledge.
"Enzo, buddy, I need you to tell me what's wrong. I need to know how I can help you, okay? Can you tell me what's going on?" She asked in the calmest, softest voice she could find.
The kid hiccuped and sniffled, wipping their eyes, but nodded.
"Mybrotherissickandhe'snotgettingbetterandI'mreallyworriedcauseIdon'tknowwhattodoandyouweregoneforalongtimeandIwasworriedyouwouldn'tcomebackandIneedhelpcausehe'ssick!" It came out as all one blur of rushed words and crying.
"Enzo, I need you to slow down. Take some deep breaths, in then out, slowly, breath with me." Eda told them.
She took in a long deep inhale, held it for a second, then let it out slowly. Enzo copied her, they did it much faster at first but their breathing slowed down and they stopped shaking soon enough.
"There, that feel better?" She asked.
"Much better." They nodded and wiped their eyes.
"Good. Now what's wrong?" She asked again
"My brother is sick! He's really sick and not getting better and I don't want anything to happen to him!" Enzo cried.
Eda let the kid cry into her again. She patted their back very gently so she didn't startle them.
"It'll be okay, I'm here, I can help, I'll help him." She said softly.
"Thank you, he's this way." Enzo grabbed her hand and led her down a path she could see had been used a lot.
They stopped at what looked like just another wall, but then Enzo tapped it lightly and it opened. Instantly, Eda was overwhelmed with the smell of sick and sound of a baby crying.
Enzo ran arcoss the room, around a raised platform with a cracked eggshell to a hanging bed and grabbed something off of it. They turned around with a crying, fussing little dogish creature with a horned skull on his head. Eda had never seen anything like him before.
"He's sick and won't stop crying!" Enzo held their brother out to her.
She gingerly took the squirming little guy and sat down to check him over. He wasn't physically hurt, he seemed healthy enough minus the sickness. The poor thing was burning up with a fever.
She dug through her sack to find that yes, she had packed a potion to bring a fever down, but before she could give it, she'd have to check his temperature.
It was easy enough to cast a temp check spell, it would tell her his recommended temperature and how far off it he was. In his case, his recommend temp would be about one hundred two and a half, and he was currently at a temp of one hundred and seven, four and a half degrees off.
Yikes!
She gave him the potion without much difficulty, he must've gotten tired by now. Once the potion had been in his system for a few minutes, she checked his temp again and saw it was closer to where it should be.
Alright, temp's down, now to find the problem.
She ran her hand over his stomach, he flinched and squealed loudly. So his stomach was hurting. That didn't exactly narrow anything down, there were so many ailments that could cause an upset stomach, she needed to know if this was life threatening and he required emergency care, or if this was something she could actually handle.
"I gave him medicine so he won't be so hot, but I still haven't figured out what's wrong with him. He might have a stomach flu, or it could be something else." She said to Enzo.
"Do you know what kind of demon he is?" She asked.
There was a breif glint of hesitation in Enzo's red eyes, as if the kid was debating whether or not to tell her something. They shook their head.
"No, I know he's something really strong though, but as little babies they can't do much." Enzo told her.
Now, Eda figured they weren't telling the whole truth, but she wasn't going to pry. They were protecting him and it was clear they had some sort of trauma, and that scar on the orange half of their face... She wanted to rip the throat off whoever did that. Enzo had a reason for lying, it was probably a good reason.
"Since I don't know what he is, it'll be a little harder to figure what's bothering him, but I can do it with the ingredients I have at home." She said.
She didn't have what she needed to diagnose and treat him here as all she'd brought were physical healing spells, and she didn't want to risk waiting any longer. She stood up to leave.
"Wait! Dad said we can't leave!" Enzo pulled her arm back.
Eda bit her inner cheek, this kid had been waiting for who knows how long alone, it couldn't have been good for them. If she told them, they'd be upset, of course, but if she told them, they might come off the island. She could take care of two unidentified demon children, right? She decided to bit the bullet and say it.
"Enzo... I don't think your dad's coming back. If he were, don't you think he would've been here by now?" She leaned down to their level.
"I know it's hard to process, right now, I think you both need to get off this island, you can live with me, and if you want, we can look into what happened to him, but your brother needs help and I can't give it to him here." She told them.
Enzo looked up at her with teary eyes.
"b-But... h-he pinky promised...?"
Fuck! This kid was going to ruin her with stuff like that.
"Sometimes, even the best of people can't keep a pinky promise. I know he must've tried super hard and fought like hell to get back here." She tried comforting them.
"Really?" Enzo sniffled.
"Yeah, who wouldn't with you waiting for 'em?" She said.
Enzo giggled and wiped his eyes. He hugged her and held on tight.
"Don't worry kiddo, you'll be okay soon." She whispered to him.
The door slid open behind her. She turned and saw a weird, gooy rock creature standing behind her. It's eyes were flashing and sparking out. It looked like a predator waiting to pounce.
"That's the guard Dad left." Enzo said.
"I-" Eda broke off as the guard thing swung at her.
She lurched back with the baby and Enzo in her arms. She ducked another swipe. Enzo scampered back to grab the few possenions they had, mostly from her. They grabbed the blanket she'd given them and the jackalope plushie.
She summoned Owlbert, scooped up Enzo and shot straight past the guard with both kids in front of her to shield them from harm.
She cast a protection spell right before they went out into the rain, she didn't even look back. She should've.
The sound of something being fired came from behind, she swerved to dodge it, but it managed to graze the baby's horn, clipping it and knocking part of one off. The impact sent her into the ground.
"Got it!" Enzo shouted, they had the horn in their hands.
The guard fired another arrow, Enzo sent it flying back. Eda scooped up the unconscious baby that had fallen and grabbed Enzo then got out of there as fast as she could.
"Is he gonna be okay? Can you fix his horn? Is he gonna die?" Enzo was panicking.
She had to calm him down, but she couldn't make a promise she might not be able to keep.
"Enzo, I'm sure he'll be fine, he's not going to die, I'll see what I can do for his horn once he's better, okay?" She settled on saying.
Enzo looked up at her with their large, teary red eyes. She tried to give them a reassuring smile, it must've done something since they seemed to calm down.
"Okay... thank you... owl lady..." Enzo whispered quietly.
"No problem kiddo, I've got you."
XXX
Eda checked the baby's temperature, it was going down at a good rate. The little guy had a nasty bug that was making him very sick, and once the parasite was removed, his condition began improving almost instantly. He was a cute little rambunctious gremlin.
Enzo was calming down considerably too, that was also good. They hadn't slept since arriving and stayed glued to their brother at all times, no matter what they were, they had to get tired eventually.
And that time was now, three days after she had brought them into the owl house. She could see the kid was wearing out, practically dead on their feet as they built more of those statues with their brother.
Kids were supposed to go to bed at a decent time, right? Eda glanced at the clock, it was getting pretty late, they should probably get to bed. She stood and went over to the pair of kids.
"Alright kiddos, time for bed." She said while picking the baby up, he still didn't have a name.
"Do we have too?" Enzo yawned.
"Yes, you haven't slept in days kid, time for some shut eye." She told them, holding her hand out.
They grumbled but took her hand and let her lead them up to the spare room she had been using for junk she couldn't find a place for in her room. She still hadn't finished cleaning it out, but she'd gotten a mattress set down for the siblings. The baby slept soundly curled inthe middle, Enzo wouldn't sleep, they just stayed up all night looking out the window if Hooty was correct.
Eda set both kids down onto the bed and the baby found his favorite spot right in the middle. Enzo sat at the edge near the window, they looked like they had absolutely no intentions of sleeping, they were already looking out the window. Children could be difficult, she knew that, but she was learning that talking to them helped a lot.
She sat down at the edge near Enzo, not close enough to invade their space, she'd learned they were sometimes uncomfortable with that. Enzo quickly glanced at her then refocused on the night sky. She let the window open so they could see clearly, the storm had finally died off and the sky was visible for once.
The moon shown with a bright, cold silvery light, the stars a harsh, pale yellow. Both beautiful.
"You like star gazing?" She asked.
Enzo giggled, a slightly devilish smile formed.
"You could say that." Their smile changed to something more wistful and longing.
"Dad and I used to watch the stars together, he'd let me sit on his head and point out all the shapes to me, I liked that." They rested their chin on their hands and leaned against the window sill.
Eda got a warm feeling looking at Enzo, just sitting there, staring out the window and reliving good times with their father. There was something oddly peaceful about it all.
She let them sit there until their exhaustion caught up with them and their eyelids started drooping. She gently rolled them back and let them curl up next to the baby, she really needed a name for him. She closed the window and pulled a blanket around the pair.
"I need you to sleep tonight, okay Enzo? I'll leave some witch lights so you can find the bathroom, and my room is just right upstairs if you need me. Okay?" She told the sleepy demon kid.
They nodded sluggishly, their eyes drooped closed and they snuggled closer to their brother. She took their hat off and set it aside for the morning, then she gave both kids a light head scratch, made the promised witch lights and went to her room.
Kid's finally getting some sleep.
XXX
Enzo curled around their brother in their sleep, wrapped tightly around him to keep him safe.
Something felt wrong.
They had been feeling it since they arrived on the Isles. It was an uncomfortably familiar feeling. It didn't feel good.
They suddenly went cold. They could feel their brother with them yet when they looked down, they didn't see him.
What they did see was almost worse.
They were shadowy and flat. They were shadow projecting, but they hadn't chosen to do it.
They had been summoned.
The only beings who could do that had the summoning tablets they made so they could go multiple places at once. There were only two left, they'd gotten rid of the rest to protect him better, and one didn't work anymore, they'd broken it themself.
There was only one left that could function, but that one had been sealed away by Dad so nothing could happen. The only person who might have access to it, maybe, please no, was-
"Ah, Collector."
Enzo froze, their heart trippled, no, quadrupled, in pace. They didn't want to look up and see it was true. But that voice, sure it might have changed in the last three hundred years, they could still hear what it used to be, it was one that haunted them.
Slowly, they looked up. There, summoning tablet in hand, stood the worst being they had ever known.
"It's been a while since I last saw you, Collector, how long would you say it's been?" Philip smirked, there was sadistic malice in his cold, lifeless eyes.
"Not long enough." Enzo blew a raspberry.
"That's not very mature." Philip scolded.
"Says you!" They blew another one.
Philip gave them a calm glare and slowly approached them. Their instincts told them to get away, but they couldn't, they were confined to projecting on a pillar for the time.
"It seems you've left whatever was keeping me from using this," Philip gestured towards the tablet, "You're in the open now, Collector."
Enzo hissed at Philip, wishing shadow projection let them do something to that horrible human.
"You'll never find us!" They growled.
Philip circled them, an evil look in his eyes.
"Oh I will. You might not know this yet but I am doing far better than where you left me, I am the Emperor of the Boiling Isles, I have all the Isles resources at the tip of my fingers, I will find you, one way or another." Philip sneered.
In the flash of an eye, a disgusting gooy arm flew out and struck Enzo's head, they could feel the pressure from the harsh impact. They clawed at the hand gripping their face to little use. Philip came closer and invaded their space, he always got to close for comfort.
"I will find you, Collector. Whatever it is you've been hiding will be mine. And there will be nothing you can do to stop me. Sooner or later, I will be coming for you, anyone who tries to stop me will die." Philip threatened.
Enzo ripped themself free of the grip and the summoning tablet's influence.
They woke up, terrified and panicked. Their heart was racing so fast, it was so hard to breath.
He knows I left! He knows! He knows we're out! He's coming! He's coming! He's still alive and he's coming for us!
Enzo was so caught up in the panic and fear that they didn't notice the absence of their brother. Or the door open with light illuminating the darkness and the person in front of them.
"Whoa. Enzo, buddy, are you okay?" The owl lady! She was here? She came when he was uspet?!
Eda bent down in front of Enzo, the baby in her arms, he was worried and squeaking nervously. Eda raised a hand and started counting with her fingers, she breathed in and out slowly.
Enzo slowly copied her, tears started falling as the kid gave themself a chance to breath. Their body shook and trembled with sobs. Eda let the poor kid cry into her and rubbed their back.
The baby made soft chirps and snuggled close to his sibling. Eda scratched the baby's head gently. She'd woken up to the little guy scratching at her door in a panic and almost fell down the stairs in his rush to get her to follow. She was glad he'd woken her and understood his urgency once she saw what was wrong.
Enzo had a night terror.
She understood that all too well. The Owl Beast had made many nights difficult with the nightmares and terrors it caused.
It must've been a really bad one.
Eda stayed there in the small room until the panic and shock passed and Enzo would be able to process what was happening. She didn't want to move them and have them panic more.
Once the sobs became soft whimpers and their heart returned to a slower pace, Eda decided to try talking with them.
"Hey Enzo? Are you okay with telling me what's wrong? You don't have to tell me if you don't want to." She told them.
Enzo tightened their grip on her sleeping sweater, they looked up to her. There was a bruise on their face. That hadn't been there when she put them to bed a few hours ago.
Her head quickly spun with possibilities of how it happened. They could've just hit themself in the panic of their night terror, she'd done that plenty of times, or they could've just hit something. However, the shape of the bruise looked like someone had punched then grabbed them.
Nobody had gotten into the house, Hooty would have alerted her way earlier. Something weird was going on. Not the good kind of weird.
"Let's go get you something for that bruise." She said, trying to raise.
Enzo buried their face back into her sweater and sobbed again.
"He knows. He made me project and he knows. He said he's gonna find us, he wants to take him. He knows I'm out! He knows! He's coming, he's coming, he's coming!" Enzo cried.
"Whoa, who's coming? Who's trying to hurt you?" Eda asked.
Enzo shivered, their lower lip trembled.
"He's the emperor now... he says he's gonna find us... he's bad, he's really really bad! I don't want him to find us!"
Well, that's a bombshell if I ever heard one. What does Belos want with Enzo? Eda frowned. If the Emperor wanted to get to these kids, he'd have to get through her, and the Owl Beast.
For Enzo's comfort, she could make a concealment stone for them, they could hide in plain sight. Yeah, she could make it work for them so they didn't stay inside at all times.
"Enzo, he's never going to get you or your brothee. I promise I'll keep you both safe." She swore.
Enzo's crying paused for a moment.
"Pinky promise?" They asked cautiously.
Eda extended her pinky finger and hooked it around Enzo's with a binding oath spell to let Enzo know she was dead serious. Breaking a binding oath had disastrous consequences.
"Cross my heart and never lie, I'll protect you til the day I die." She recited.
Her hand glowed for a moment then fizzled out.
"C'mon, you two can sleep in my room tonight." She picked both kids up and took them to her room.
They all got settled in to her nest, Enzo got a healing patch for their bruise, and soon the sounds of sleeping filled the air.
Things would be different for The Owl Lady from now on. A single choice had changed her entire life.
The Owl Lady didn't make promises to anyone. The Owl Lady was attached to no one and cared about no one but herself.
At least, she hadn't until she stumbled upon an abandoned island inhabited by a lonely, traumatized kid waiting for their father to return for them and their baby brother that wormed their way into her heart.
The Owl Lady's life was about to change, for better or worse is up for debate.
