Part Of The Band
j.t.k x f.reader
part one
Tumblr media
a/n: this is my first time writing Jake and I have to admit that it’s been so intimidating. he was the one I was soooo scared to write, since he’s my main lane. I plan to make this into a series, so I really hope you all enjoy it :)
word count: 5k
summary: your best friend asks you to come with her to a concert for a band that you’re unfamiliar with. your decision to go proves to have more repercussions than you thought when you run into the band at your favorite bar after the show. you never would have imagined the pull that you’d feel toward their guitarist, or that you would somehow manage to capture his attention…
warnings: yearning, some cussing, mentions of alcohol, smoking. some parts are slightly sexually implicit, including: light groping, kissing, and some sexual language. minors beware! the next part will definitely contain smut.
You’ve never been one to pass up on a night out, especially if it involves music. Music is something that you actively search for constantly, it defines you. You’d do anything to just be able to listen to live music, to close your eyes and just feel it flow through your body. Since you lack any actual musical talent besides half-decent singing, you just listen to it as much as you can.
So, when your roommate and best friend, Sophie, asked you to come with her to a concert tonight last minute, you could hardly just say no. Did you have a big midterm tomorrow afternoon that you needed to study for? Maybe. But live music always comes first. Sophie was always finding last-minute concerts for you to go to together- it was kind of your thing. This time, however, it was a band you didn’t really know.
You’re pretty sure you’ve heard one of their singles, Heat Above, online somewhere a few times but that was the most knowledge you had of Greta Van Fleet. You don’t know much about their background or their names, just that they make rock music and that’s all you need to be convinced to go. You and Sophie had always found yourselves at the Greek Theatre for just about any kind of concert, so this wasn’t a new thing for you.
The show is meant to start at 7:00 pm, but Sophie is always determined to be as close to the stage as possible, so you’re getting ready in the afternoon to get there around 2:30 or 3 o’clock. In the name of comfortability, you opt to wear ripped black skinny jeans, a white halter top, and your Doc Martens. You keep your hair down, wavy and lying right below your shoulders. You put on some simple makeup, just to cover up any blemishes you might have, do some tight-lined eyeliner, and put on a bit of your favorite silver eyeshadow. You take a deep breath. Okay, you’re ready.
─────── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───────
Sophie calls your Uber over to the Greek and you both arrive there just in time. You see about 50 people there already, so you both know that you’ll have a great spot in the small pit. You guys sit down at the end of the line and make yourselves comfortable to wait in the line for several hours until you’re let into the venue. Late October in LA can be pretty comfortable, today is in the mid-70s, so it isn’t a terrible day to camp out. You and Sophie talk about schoolwork, gossip about your friends, and play various games until it’s suddenly 6 o’clock and it’s time to head into the venue.
The group walks down the steps of the Greek and security has the line start all the way to the left of the pit. You and Sophie end up standing toward the front of the right side of the stage, which you’re perfectly content with. It’s not long before the openers come on- they were all great. The energy in the theatre was amazing and the weather was beautiful, it was like a dream.
Next thing you know, the lights go out and it’s pitch black. The crowd goes wild, screaming for the band to come out. Ominous music starts to play over the speakers and a short video plays on the screens on the sides of the stage. You can tell that the band enjoyed building suspense and it certainly works.
Suddenly, you see a dark silhouette emerge from stage left and appear right in front of your gaze. He’s holding a guitar, stepping up to the front of the stage where you assume his pedals are, and strikes a loud chord, bringing everyone’s attention to him. The lights turn up, with a sole spotlight on him, as he starts to play a dark, hypnotizing melody that almost takes the air out of your lungs. You turn your focus to the drummer and keyboardist entering the stage now, adding to the mix and making the sound grow even larger and darker than before.
The crowd then screams as the singer walks out with an enormous smile on his face. You can immediately tell what fans would love about him, he exudes brightness and kindness from the second you look at him. He begins vocalizing and you’re taken aback by his singing abilities, his voice is truly amazing.
The first verse begins and you decide to turn your attention back to the guitarist. You study the way he moves on stage; how he walks upstage then downstage with this confident strut that you can’t help but feel mesmerized by. You notice a theme of blue in their outfits but are drawn specifically to the design on the guitarist’s suit, covered in stars and astrological symbols of the Taurus, paired with dark boots. It’s honestly beautiful.
As you’re admiring what he’s wearing, you take a moment to truly look at him. He has long brown hair with a slight wave to it, falling an inch or two below his collarbones. His eyebrows are dark and quite thick, knit tightly as he’s concentrating on what he’s playing. His eyes are equally as dark, though it's hard to tell their exact hue from this many feet away.
You catch yourself staring for too long and want to make the effort to shift your eyes elsewhere and as you do, his eyes meet yours. It’s a concert, of course the band is going to make eye contact with their fans, it’s a small pit. But he seems to hold his gaze for several seconds to the point where you think he might actually be looking at you specifically. You give him a shy smile, which he returns, and then moves on with the song.
The rest of the song continues and you think you’re really starting to like Greta Van Fleet, the music is truly fantastic. The singer’s voice is beautiful and like nothing you’ve ever heard before. Suddenly he stops and the guitarist approaches the end of the stage, seemingly for his guitar solo. It’s nothing short of amazing, the way that he plays the guitar is so captivating, it’s like your eyes can’t look away.
You hear the crowd go insane for it, screaming things like “Yeah Jake!” “Do it, Jakey!” “Fuck it up!!” and you’re sure that he’s eating it all up. Jake, you think to yourself. Interesting. It becomes clear that the girls go crazy for him and you know that must give him some sort of complex. He seems so confident and you can’t blame him, with all the praise that he’s receiving- praise that is very well-deserved.
─────── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───────
All of the following songs go the same exact way. You can’t seem to take your eyes off of Jake. You’ve also deeply fallen in love with their music and the love that it emits. You feel very glad about your decision to go to the concert tonight- you can feel that this has changed the course of your life in some way. Throughout the show, you notice that sometimes Jake would catch you watching him, which you didn’t mind. Surely he was used to being watched on stage like that, in amazement and admiration. You truly do admire him and his talent, it’s something very special. All of his riffs are so satisfying to hear and the chords blend so perfectly.
Once the encore ends, the band goes to leave the stage. You watch Jake as he walks toward the end of the stage, which you assume is to hand out his guitar picks before leaving for the night. Much to your surprise, he looks right at you as he leans over and tosses it to you. Your cheeks turn a shade of pink and you look up at him, smiling and thanking him. What a night to remember. You think that this would be it, but you are dead wrong.
You and Sophie turn to exit the pit, which takes some time considering how close you are to the front. You’re eventually able to exit the theatre and wait on the sidewalk for a game plan. “So… you wanna go to the Tavern?” Sophie asks. The Tavern is your go-to bar in Beverly Hills; it has a good atmosphere, great cocktails, and isn’t too far from campus. You and Sophie go there at least once every weekend, they all know your names there. You glare at her with a concerned look, “Soph, I have such a big exam tomorrow, are you serious?” She rolls her eyes, “Come on! Live a little! You’re telling me you don’t wanna at least get a little drunk to take your mind off of it? We just saw an amazing show, let’s go celebrate!”
Sophie always knew how to convince you to do anything, no matter what it was. She knew your weaknesses every time. You groan, “Ugh, fine. But if you have to wake my ass up tomorrow at 2 pm for my exam because I’m too hungover, you'll have no one to blame but yourself.” She smiles wide and says “I know, I know. I’ve already called the Uber to take us there now.” Cheeky girl, she knew she’d convince you.
─────── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───────
It's already midnight by the time you arrive at the Tavern. The last call is always at 1 am so you know that you won't be there too long. You both walk in and find your favorite booth in the back, placing your jackets down before going up to the bar to order your drinks. Sophie orders you both a shot of tequila, then gets herself a margarita. You order a bourbon punch and turn back to take a seat in your booth. You both take your shots when you sit down, then you debrief tonight’s events.
“So, what did you think of the band? Did you like them?” Sophie asks.
“Yeah, it was amazing actually. I don’t know how I hadn’t found them before now. The music that they make is extraordinary,” you reply with a smile. You do have some questions, though. “So what’s their deal? The lore?”
“Oh, well they’re from Michigan. They’re actually brothers, besides the drummer- though they all grew up together. Josh, the singer, and Jake, the guitarist, are twins.” You nod your head. I did think they looked alike, you think to yourself. “Sam is their younger brother, and Danny is his best friend. They’ve been making music for a while but they blew up a lot in like 2019 and then this new album skyrocketed their fame.”
“Well, that doesn’t surprise me. This album is absolutely breathtaking. From what I heard tonight, their music is so mind-blowing. It really took my breath away,” you explain.
“I knew you'd love it. I’m so glad that you’re into them now. Especially Jake, it seemed,” she smirked.
You reach over to smack her on the arm and exclaim, “Sophie! That’s crazy! I don’t know where you got that idea! I was not into him.” The blush that’s made its way to your face tells a different story, however.
“You so were! You couldn’t take your eyes off of him that entire show, I watched you. I think he might’ve been looking at you too, you know,” she jests. Just the thought that Jake might have been actually interested in you made your stomach turn. You shake your head.
“No, Soph. There’s no way. Sure, we might have locked eyes once or twice, but there were thousands of people there. I’m sure he looks at all of his fans like that…” you trail off, wanting to shut this conversation down as soon as possible to save yourself from any further embarrassment. You pick up your glass, which is half empty, then chug the whole thing. “Oh, look at that, my drink is gone. I’m gonna go get another, I’ll be back.” You smirk at her, successfully avoiding the conversation for now, and then get up from your seat to walk back to the bar.
As you approach the bar, there’s a group of men leaning against it, ordering drinks. You go to stand on the right of them to wait your turn and the man next to you senses your presence and turns to look at you. As he turns in your direction, you see the long chestnut hair and are met with dark chocolate eyes. You’re immediately hit with the realization: Oh my god. It’s Jake.
He looks at you and offers a soft smile as a greeting. “Hi…” you manage to let out, looking up at him. “Hey,” he replies. You glance behind him and see the rest of the band. Oh my GOD. Greta Van Fleet is at my bar. You just stand there leaning against the bar for a moment looking at him, unsure of what to say next. You find yourself looking him up and down, analyzing what he’s wearing off the stage.
He has on a different pair of boots now, a light brown color. He's wearing some tattered blue jeans and a navy blue, long-sleeved button-up shirt, of which the top four buttons are undone, leaving his upper chest partially exposed. The lighting in the Tavern reflects off of it in such a mesmerizing way. You realize that you’ve been staring for far too long and go to say something, but luckily he beats you to it.
“Were you at our show tonight? I think I remember your face…” Jake says, looking into your eyes as though he’s piercing right into your soul, studying you. You feel stuck, though you’re not sure why. Up until today, you weren’t a fan of theirs and you wouldn’t have thought anything about this interaction at all whatsoever. So why were you so flustered? You finally work up the courage to answer.
“Uh, yeah. Yeah, I was there. It was… spectacular,” you say with a shy smile, finally meeting his gaze. He smiles back at you when your attention is suddenly pulled away by the sound of a loud voice coming from behind him.
“You really liked it? I’m so glad. I get so in my head sometimes, y’know, I was so nervous. So it’s lovely to hear that I didn’t totally crash and burn.” The man that you now understand to be Jake’s curly-headed twin reaches over the bar past Jake and extends his hand out to you. “I’m Josh, by the way,” he adds with a wide smile. You reach your hand out to shake his, in total shock that this is actually happening.
“Hi, Josh. I’m Y/N, which I was just about to tell your brother here…” you joke, making him realize that he’d accidentally interrupted something. He makes an “oh that’s awkward” kind of face and pulls at his collar, causing you to laugh. Jake watches as you interact with his twin with a look on his face that you can’t quite place. Like he’s trying to figure you out.
“Sorry about him, Y/N, sometimes he just speaks first and then thinks after,” you hear from further down the bar. You look up to see that voice coming from Sam next to him, who gets a shove from his older brother and erupts into contagious laughter. You watch Danny shake his head, chuckling, and you laugh along with them. Jake looks over at you, smiling. You smile back at him and he speaks up, drawing your attention back to him and him alone.
“What are you drinking, Y/N?” he asks. “Oh, um, a bourbon punch,” you answer. “Another bourbon punch for this lovely lady here, please,” he says to the bartender, “You can put it on my tab.” You look at him in shock and try to protest but he sees it coming, saying “No, I insist. As a thank you, for your support and for making my brother happy for a moment there with your compliment- he’s easy to please.”
He leans one arm onto the counter and smirks at you as the bartender places your drink down in front of you. “Cheers, sweetheart,” Jake says, raising his glass to yours. You glance down at the glass to see what he’s drinking, which seems to be whisky, neat. It suits him. You smile at him and say “Cheers” and take a sip of your fresh drink. His eyes are looking into yours so intently that it almost feels like they’re burning into you. Something about him is so intriguing yet slightly intimidating that you want to learn more.
─────── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───────
“Are you here alone?” he asks. “Oh, no, I’m here with a friend. She’s back there at our table.” Jake looks behind you to see Sophie, who has been intently watching this entire interaction unfold. He smiles and gives her a little wave to come over, so she stands up and comes up to the bar. “Would you both like to join us for a round? We have a larger booth upstairs with a few of our friends.” His eyes look down at you for an answer, waiting and hoping for a yes. Before you can answer, Sophie chimes in to answer for you, “We’d love to!” she says, elbowing your side to encourage you to agree and you nod along. “Yeah, sure, we can stay for a bit longer,” you reply, looking up at Jake, who seems satisfied with that answer.
The rest of the guys get their drinks and you follow them up the winding staircase to the large booth that they reserved. When you arrive at the table, you see a few other people waiting there whom you assume to be part of their management, security, and some personal friends. Danny and Sam slide in first to the left to join their friends and Josh goes for an open spot on the right side. Jake extends his hand out, offering for you to take a seat between them, and then slides in on the left next to you. Sophie opts to sit next to Sam on the end, across from you.
You both introduce yourselves to the rest of the group. Their friends seem unsurprised that they managed to make friends in the short time they’ve been in the bar. From the few minutes you’ve spent with them, you can tell that their social and charismatic tendencies would likely often lead to new friendships everywhere they go. It’s something you’re starting to admire about them.
As you’re getting to know the group, it’s impossible not to notice Jake’s eyes on you. He’s studying you as you speak, watching the way your lips move and admiring you. It’s difficult to ignore, though you try your best to. He starts speaking and you turn your head to look at him, taking the time to look him over as well. You look at his eyes, mostly, a mesmerizing dark chocolate color that turns into amber when the light touches them. His nose is straight and pointed, his lips look soft and full.
He catches you staring at him, just for a moment, and uses the opportunity to place his right hand on your knee, exposed by the large rips in your jeans, rubbing small circles on top of it. It makes you jump a little at first touch, startled by his actions. You couldn’t believe this was real life. You look up at him and you both lock eyes. It falls silent for a moment and Josh starts a conversation with Daniel across the table, everyone else engaging and chiming in. Jake takes this opportunity to lean into your ear a bit to talk to you on his own, which he’s been dying to do.
“I know you were watching me earlier, at the show…” he whispers in your ear, loud enough only for you to hear. Your heart nearly stops, but he continues. “It’s okay, you know, I don’t mind it. If anything, I kind of liked it,” he says, his breath feeling hot on your skin. “Maybe I was,” you answer shyly, turning your face toward him a bit so that he can hear you more clearly. Your eyes meet and you watch as his eyes quickly dart to your lips, then back up to look at you once more.
“I was watching you too,” he says, sliding his hand a bit higher above your knee, resting on your inner thigh, slightly gripping it. “Watching you study me… and how my fingers worshipped the strings…” he continues, leaning closer to your ear, his lips grazing lightly over it. Shivers run down your back and continue down toward your core, causing you to silently yearn for more. You inhale deeply, then ask “And what did you think about that, Jake?” saying his name in a honeyed tone, causing him to squeeze your thigh and look deep into your eyes, piercing through them. You knew exactly what he was thinking, but you wanted to hear him say it. You wanted to be absolutely sure that what you thought was about to happen was actually happening.
“Do you wanna go outside for a smoke, Y/N?” Jake asks, slightly loud enough so that the others can hear. Sophie looks at you, smirking; she clearly can tell exactly what’s going on. She nods at you, encouraging you to go. “Uh, yeah Jake, sure,” you mutter, a bit awkwardly. You weren’t expecting him to try and get you alone, you had felt all this time that he was just playing with you. It’s clear now, though, that this was not a game.
─────── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───────
He stands up from the booth and offers his hand to help you up as well. Despite the dark aura that surrounds him, he still appears to be quite the gentleman. You stand up from the booth, shoot Sophie a nervous look, and then turn around to head back down the stairs. Jake follows closely behind you.
You get to the bottom of the stairs and head to the back of the Tavern to go out the back door, to the smoking area. It’s an outdoor patio behind the bar, illuminated with low-lit string lights and decorated with some picnic tables with a few ashtrays. You exit through the door and turn around to face him as the door closes silently behind him. His eyes are darker now, piercing into you as he approaches you. You back up slowly until the backs of your legs hit one of the tables and then sit on the edge of it while Jake takes out a pack of Marlboro Reds and a black lighter from his back pocket.
He pulls a cigarette out of the pack, places it between his lips, and then brings the lighter up to light it. He takes a long drag out of it and blows it to the side, avoiding blowing any smoke in your face, then steps closer to you until he’s standing between your legs, only inches away from you. He puts the cigarette down to sit on the ashtray for a moment and he finally speaks.
“Y/N/ I can’t seem to stop thinking about you. You’ve captivated me from the second the lights turned up on that stage tonight. I haven’t been able to take my eyes off you…” he says, bringing his hand up to your cheek and running his thumb along your cheek. He’s watching your eyes, how they look up at him with anticipation, waiting for him. He can feel the power that he has over you.
“I can’t stop thinking about you either… Seeing you for the first time on stage tonight has caused you to completely take over my thoughts ever since. No matter how hard I tried to watch the others, my eyes kept getting drawn right back to you. It was like I couldn’t control it,” you say, glancing down at his lips and then back to his eyes longingly. “I don’t feel like I can control myself around you, baby… I’m being tempted to throw out all of my rules for you,” Jake says in a low whisper, bringing his face closer to yours.
Your eyes look up at his, pleading. He can’t hold himself back anymore, finally closing the gap between you. He kisses you so deeply that it takes the air out of your lungs. He leans into you and his hand that was once on your cheek grasps the back of your neck tightly, causing you to let out a quiet whimper. Just the sound of it lights a fire within him, he takes his other hand to hold your hip in place and groans into your mouth. You place your hands around his neck and pull him closer to you, your bodies now flush together.
Jake pulls away, his face still only a few inches from yours, and tries to catch his breath. His left hand squeezes your hip as the other leaves your neck in order to reach behind you to grab his cigarette, still lit. He takes a drag from it blowing it to the side, but keeps his eyes locked on yours and watches as you stare at his lips when he blows the smoke out. He takes note of your interest in the way he’s blowing the smoke and says, “Open your mouth.”
You immediately obey, knowing you’d do anything he asks you to, and open your mouth. He takes another drag of the cigarette and kisses you again, blowing the smoke into your mouth and you breathe it in as you lean into the kiss. This elicits another moan from him, clearly turned on by the act. He leans into you harder and bucks his hips into you slightly, trying to release some tension. You moan quietly into his mouth at the sensation, your desire starting to pulsate between your legs.
His lips leave your mouth and place kisses along your jaw then down your neck, causing you to let out a small sigh. “You don’t even know what you do to me, sweetheart,” Jake mutters against your skin. He brings his mouth back to yours and kisses you once more, but you pull yourself away.
“Jake… I want this. I want you, but… not now.” He looks disappointed by your words but backs away slightly, sliding both of his hands down to your waist. “I’m sorry, I just- I have this big exam tomorrow and I’ve already stayed out so much later than I ever even intended to. I have to go home.”
He nods his head in understanding, then it seems like a lightbulb lights up in his head. He smiles and says, “Come to the show tomorrow night, then. Please… I need to see you again. I want to see you front and center when I play.” You’re taken aback completely at his kind offer. You know you need to see him again too, and you’d like nothing more than to watch them perform again. You nod your head, “Oh, Jake. I would love to go. That’s so sweet,” you say, smiling bashfully. Jake’s face lights up at your answer, “It’s gonna be a great show, baby. You won’t regret it. I’ll have Jenn email you the tickets as soon as we get back to our hotel, one for Sophie too.” You thank him and place a soft peck on his cheek, causing a hue of pink to form there. You both go back inside and return to your friends upstairs.
─────── ・ 。゚☆: *.☽ .* :☆゚. ───────
“Soph, you ready to go home?” you ask her. “I really gotta get up for this midterm tomorrow,” you explain to the others, who all nod and wish you luck. Sophie nods and says goodnight to everyone. Jake offers to walk you both out to the bus stop to wait for the bus to take you back to your apartment. Sophie goes to sit on the bench as you wait a bit behind with Jake.
He places a soft goodnight kiss on your lips and you hum into it and smile as he brings his hand up to cup your cheek. “Here, let me see your phone,” he says, taking it and typing in his phone number, putting his contact name as “Sir Jacob ⚔️”, which makes you giggle. “Text me when you make it home safe, sweetheart. I’ll see you tomorrow,” he says with a smirk. “See you tomorrow, Jake,” you reply as he turns back to the front door of the Tavern. He turns back around and gives you a soft smile, and you wave goodbye before he goes back inside.
You turn around and sit down on the bench next to Sophie, who finally wants to know all of the details. The bus arrives and you fill her in on everything on the ride home, causing her to laugh and scream in excitement, much to the dismay of the other exhausted people who are on the city bus at one o’clock in the morning. You tell her that he’s sending you tickets for both of you to go to the next show tomorrow night and that he’s asking security to put you in the front row, which she is so psyched about.
You both finally arrive home and you take your makeup off, put some comfier clothes on, and collapse into bed. What a night, you think to yourself. It was nothing like you ever could have imagined. You turn over and plug your phone in, then open up the messages app and type in “Sir Jacob ⚔️”.
You: home safe <3
Sir Jacob ⚔️: Good. Sweet dreams, beautiful.
You: goodnight, jake
You place your phone down on your bedside table and flop down on your back, letting out a long sigh. You think about your exam tomorrow and the excitement that will come thereafter. You wonder where tomorrow night will lead you as you close your eyes and try to fall asleep. God, what have I gotten myself into?

Lady Danbury & Lord Ledger:
Lady Danbury: “Shut up you’re all going to die! Street smarts!” + “It’s wrong to make fun of people, but it’s just so fun sometimes.”
Lord Ledger: “My vibe is like ‘hey you could pour soup in my lap and I’d probably apologize to you.’”
George & Charlotte:
King George: “it seems like everyone, everywhere, is super mad about everything, all the time.”
Queen Charlotte: “I simply do not give a shit what anybody thinks of me in any situation.”
Bonus:
Violet: “Putting a thirteen year old in charge of your younger kids is like getting a dog to babysit your horse. If something goes wrong, they can just maybe get help a little more quickly.”

Tumblr media
and he's supposed to be serious?
anyway, stressful night over. time to go to bed with my babygirl Jin
BITS BITS BITS BITS
29 gems to go all the way? what is this?
they could've make the scene a little longer but they have gotten way better ever since the writers dropped the word crescendo
MR TYLER WHO ARE YOU?
still not 100% sure if I'm going with Jin or Oakley but I'm leaning towards Jin, I'm not gonna lie 😁 I did some stuff that will fuck me over on movie night if fusebox finally learnt how to code (which they prolly didn't so I guess I'm safe)
I really enjoyed this episode except for the part when Jack and Sophie went full on villain mode but if the narrative made sense all of the time it wouldn't be LITG, right?
anyway, let's see what this Tyler guy is about... see you all next week 🫶

I have had a shitty day today.
What has put a smile on my face is your accidental marriage trope.
Tell me, what kind of a shitshow does Phillip walk in to ag his first family dinner?
How does he top the chaos with his twins?
Not going to lie, I kinda want it to end with Violet smoking a cigarette in the garage. Trying to recover
I'm sorry you had such a bad day lovley.
Let's see, I've been debating this for a while but what if the accidental marriage also happened in the Full House au. So now we got the Crane twins running wild but they're being horrible influences on their younger cousins. Meanwhile Penelope is trying to stay calm because holy shit the random man from London aka her baby daddy was also here.
The Bridgertons descend on Phillip's home so they can work out some sort of agreement for the anullment, and they're nosy. They need to see what kind of man Eloise married, even if it's only temporary. Plus, since they're trying to stay on the downlow, it would be more inconspicuous for the family to travel separately to an unknown location to the media than to one of their homes.
One by one, the Bridgertons started to show. First to show was Sophie and Benedict, who live the closest. Anthony, Kate, and Violet were next. Violet just had to scout out the new potential grand babies. She has a gut feeling this Phillip fellow and his family are gonna be around longer than what the others think, no matter what Anthony says. Daphne and Simon follow behind. Gregory and Hyacinth drove all the way from University to see this shit show, some good quality entertainment right here. Colin and Francesca are the last to arrive.
Michael can't tell who's tenser between his two friends. He can understand why Phillip is tense. The Bridgertons are a powerful family. Hell, he remembers when John first started dating Francesca how big of a deal it was. Now, here was poor Phillip who just accidentally married in on a drunken night. Penelope has a story with these people though, he can tell.
The meal itself goes well. The Bridgertons ask questions. They learn Phillip is a botanist and a part time professor. He's never been married. He's 30. Favorite color is green. His two friends live with him mainly because he doesn't know what to do with this big house he inherited, so why not let his friends live with him. Two of the four children living in the house are his. No one admits that those children are from drunken one night stands. Better to keep that quiet.
Michael and Penelope get asked questions too. More so Penelope than Michael since Michael already knows the Bridgertons.
Things start getting interesting when they discuss the plan for Eloise's and Phillip's anullment.
"We can't do the anullment right away. The media is in a frenzy right now from Eloise's posts," Anthony starts. "That being said, they'll also be in an even bigger frenzy should we do the anullment too soon or if Eloise is spotted living with one of us. Do you mind her staying here?"
Phillip looked from Michael to Penelope. While it was his house, they lived here too, and he was always fair about them getting their say. Michael shrugged, he didn't mind. Eloise could easily keep up with the kids, and it seems like she's developing a fast friendship with Penelope, too.
"That's fine," Phillip agreed. "Just as long as the children living here are kept out of the media."
Anthony nodded. If there was one thing the Bridgertons could do, it was control the narrative. If they didn't want someone to be known, they could do it. I mean, look at Francesca, no one could find anything about her online unless she shared it. "Our family would feel more comfortable if two of us could possibly check in and keep an eye on things."
Eloise raised an eyebrow. "Are you siccing a babysitter on me?"
"I'm sending damage control," Anthony shot back. "You know Colin and Francesca are some of the best at getting the media to calm down."
"Why can't it be Benedict?" Eloise questioned.
Everyone looked towards the said Bridgerton and his very pregnant wife sitting next to him.
"Very well," Eloise muttered.
"Besides," Colin said. "We'll only be checking in. Officially, Fran and I will be visiting Benedict and Sophie to help them prepare for the baby."
Michael watched Penelope tensed further as Phillip agreed to the babysitters. He really needed to get that story out of her.
Then Violet asked to see the children. "I brought some sweets for them."
Phillip and Penelope got up to go get their respective sets of twins while Eloiseled her family to the sitting. Michael follows his friends to give the Bridgertons some privacy, and he figured this was his best chance to talk to his own little family.
Once they were far enough away from the dining room and not in hearing distance of the kids, Michael pulled his friends to the side. "You two need to relax. I don't know who was tenser between the two of you. I bet if we had put some coal in your hands, we could have made diamonds."
Phillip sighed while Penelope shot Michael a dirty look.
Michael shrugged. "Hey the scary part is over. Now we get to watch Violet get the kids on a sugar high."
Phillip rubbed his temples. "Oh lord, Amanda and Oliver on sugar."
Michael laughed. "Oh, I can't wait for my nibblings' chaos. But before that," Michael turned to the short red head. "What was with you this evening? I understand why Phillip was tense. But you were just as bad."
Penelope let out her own sigh. "Do you remember the random man from London?"
"Your drunken one night stand baby daddy? Yeah, what about him?"
"He's in the sitting room."
Both boys jaws dropped. "Which one?!"
"The babysitter," Penelope answered.
Michael couldn't help himself, he really couldn't. He busted out laughing. "So let me get this straight. The Bridgertons, one of the most powerful families in the country, the same people who gave even my perfect cousin John a hard time. You," he points to Phillip, "accidentally marry one, and you," he points to Penelope, " have babies with another. All thanks to drunk nights!"
Oh this was perfect! Michael couldn't wait to see this shit show play out. Couldn't ask for better entertainment.
"Aren't you in love with Francesca? Who's the other babysitter?"
Oh now why did they have to be rude and bring that up?

the more i sit and think about it, fire and hemlock wasn’t the only tam lin retelling that diana wrote.  howl’s moving castle is another - not as explicit a retelling as fire and hemlock, but a remarkably faithful adaptation of tam lin in its own right!!
there are references to the child ballad scattered all throughout howl’s moving castle:  howl is not in possession of his own heart; he can’t call his soul his own, because he is under the thrall of the witch of the waste, this story’s stand-in for the faerie queen. sophie, just like janet, leaves her father’s house and literally BREAKS INTO HOWL’S CASTLE just as janet plunges recklessly into carterhaugh.  tam lin has a running symbol of picking the roses red and green; sophie wants a nice house with lots of flowers and ends up with a sprawling meadow garden and a flower shop.  janet returns to carterhaugh to pick the poison rose - sophie creates her own extra-toxic daffodils and the infamous weed-killer.
sophie remarks that there are such a lot of different aspects to howl that you never know what to make of him - tam lin changes in janet’s arms, from adder to lion to wild swan.  the analgram of a man that the fire demon miss angorian makes with parts of suliman and prince justin is this story’s version of the year-king, a straw-man that she will use and then sacrifice to build up her own power just as laurel planned to sacrifice tom in fire and hemlock.  sophie is the one to return to howl his heart and to initiate his transformation back into a human man - she even holds a flaming calcifer in her palm just as janet holds the burning seed while tam lin undergoes his own transformation.  and sophie holds howl in her arms as he changes - his eyes go from glassy to a normal green.
and, in keeping with diana’s views of possession and attachment from fire and hemlock, sophie must let howl go the same way polly must give up tom: beliving that howl is in love with miss angorian, sophie leaves the castle to save miss angorian from the witch.  in this version, sophie rushes off not with the intention of rescuing howl - though she does, in more ways than one! - she goes to the waste to save whom she believes is howl’s true love!  which is just.  it’s SO MUCH the same as polly letting tom go, knowing that the only way to save him is to lose him.  and howl tried to bind sophie to him the same way tom tried to use polly, with attachment and clinging jealousy - howl even remarked that he’d thought that sophie’s jealousy of miss angorian would provoke sophie into bullying miss angorian away from him.
it’s just SO fascinating to see how diana plays with her own themes from fire and hemlock, reusing the same elements but shifting everything slightly to the left to create a completely new kind of story, with a totally different emotion and feeling to it.  fire and hemlock is a story told from the depths of despair: at the bottom of nowhere, as polly says, while howl’s moving castle is told with such utter joy in the act of creation and chaos.  they’re nothing alike - but they are so similar!!
i’ve always sort of felt that fire and hemlock and howl’s moving castle are sort of bookends to each other - they both tell the same kind of story, from opposite ends of the spectrum of joy and grief, and it’s so interesting to see the differences between them.  it’s like looking through a kalediscope.

Humphrey Bone x Ghost!Reader
Just a little reader insert into “The Bone Plot”.
TW; suicide (didn’t actually happen, but it was mentioned so I wanted to include the warning), canon typical headless-ness/death
Tumblr media
“Which is why the history books echo with the name; Sir Humphrey Bone.”
You cringe, knowing it was coming but unsure of how to answer the questions that were sure to follow.
“Did you know? You’re his wife!” Cap asks accusatorially.
“Yes of course I knew,” you sigh, knowing this is going to bring up a lot that the both of you would rather not remember.
The ghosts begin their search for Humphrey as you amble along behind them. Of course you know where Humphrey is, having just left him in the study when he told you he didn’t want to come to the filming, but you weren’t going to tell them that. Eventually they do find him, and you settle into the chair next to the table his head is on.
“You didn’t tell us you were famous!” Kitty says.
“Am I? Ooh, that’s nice. Am I a painter?” Humphrey plays dumb.
“She means the plot, mate. The Catholic Plot,” Pat huffs.
You watch as they go back and forth about it, frowning as Mary grumbles about his easy death. Certainly isn’t easy to have the memory of the sight burned in your brain. You stroke his hair away from his forehead gently as he goes into telling the story. It’s not long before the ghosts have a million questions.
“Humphrey?” Kitty asks gently when he trails off, lost in thought.
“What is he talking about? Who’s Sophie?” Captain interjects and you frown.
“She was my wife,” Humphrey answers, the other ghosts’ eyes bulging in shock.
“You what?! I thought you were his wife!” Pat exclaims.
“Technically, I was his mistress,” you mumble. You hear a clipped “good lord” from Captain, and Fanny looks a bit faint.
“You never told us that!” Kitty complains.
“It never came up,” you shrug, “and you never asked.”
“But it’s not how it sounds,” Humphrey cuts in when the ghosts all begin to ask questions over each other.
“Sophie was a business arrangement, there were no feelings there. She’s the love of my life, er- afterlife? Both,” he explains, smiling at you fondly.
It really wasn’t at all how it sounds, despite how the documentary makes it seem.
You had known each other since you were young, you; a baker’s child, and Humphrey; noble but only just so. Despite their status, his parents still occasionally sent him to the village on errands which is when he’d met you. Your young romance blossomed between sacks of flour behind the bakery where your clandestine meetings took place. He was dead set on marrying you, not caring what his parents would say, but before he could tell them this, they had arranged a marriage for him, practically set in stone. They’d whisked him off to meet her and marry right away.
You were heartbroken when Humphrey snuck into town the next week and told you the news, but he was undeterred.
“She doesn’t want to be married to me any more than I want to be married to her,” he tells you urgently, willing you to understand.
“It’s just for looks, she has no interest in being with me at all,” he implored.
“What are you saying?” You ask softly, not daring to get your hopes up. He explains his plan to you and honestly you think it just might work.
And it does. Within the week you’re moved into their manor, under the guise of being a new baker in the kitchen.
“Not only were you the mistress, but you had the gall to live in their home?!” Fanny squawks and you roll your eyes.
“It wasn’t like I was intruding on their marriage, Fanny. Humphrey is not a deceitful man, we discussed it with Sophie before I ever even moved in,” you explain curtly, her face scrunching in disbelief as Humphrey goes on to tell them about your arrangement.
The two of you were free to be together within the walls of the house with Sophie in her own side of the manor, which suited her just fine. They kept up appearances in public when need be, and went about their own business at home. This arrangement suited you all for years until Sophie became restless in the house.
Humphrey, ever the gentleman, still looked after Sophie as much as she’d permit (which truly wasn’t much) but he was more than willing to supply her with anything she might want or need. This is how “book club” had started. Sophie held her meetings while the two of you enjoyed your alone time on the other end of the manor. Until one fateful day, that is.
Humphrey had just gone round to grab something out of the chart room after one of the book club meetings when he found the letter. His blood had run cold when he read it, instantly thinking of what it could mean for your lives. The moments after this were pure terror, telling Sophie to run and thinking that you were safe on the other side of the manor. Panicking as the guards were banging on the door.
“Beheaded on the spot for high treason, so heinous was his crime. His mistress committing suicide out of grief at the sight.”
“At least, that’s how-“ Humphrey starts, but gets cut off by the Captain’s salute and the other ghosts murmurs of agreement.
“We should tell Alison,” Kitty says, and the ghosts agree, wondering off to do so. You can’t help but think about how the rest of that night actually went.
You heard the shouting from the other side of the manor, no idea what was going on but a pit forming in your stomach. You ran towards the chart room where Humphrey said he was going, using the back halls to avoid whatever the commotion was. Running into the room through the back door, you find Humphrey panicking.
“What are you doing here? You have to go!” He whisper yells, his eyes full of fear.
“What’s going on?” You ask in a hushed voice.
“There’s no time! You have to hide,” he insists, frantically shoving you into an alcove covered by thick curtains in the corner before running off to his own place to hide. You don’t dare to even breathe when you hear the doors being shoved open and the queen’s guards announcing themselves. They search for what feels like forever, one of them coming so close to you that he nearly touches you with his sword through the curtains before the other one distracts him. You can hear them leave but you still don’t dare move until you hear Humphrey shimmying out of wherever he’d been hidden. You peek out of the curtains, when you see Humphrey halfway out of the fire place. You run to his side, ready to ask him just what the hell is going on.
“God, I love this house,” he laughs, tapping the wall lightly. You barely have time to suck in a gasping breath when you see the swords moving, much less warn him. You would’ve screamed at the sight before you, but your breath was taken away before you could even consider it, the sword swinging right through Humphrey’s neck and piercing you in the abdomen. Your thick layers of corsetry were nothing against the sharp blade sticking into you. With a gasp, you pull yourself away from the sword, blood pouring thick and fast from your wound. You don’t have time to do much of anything before you’re stumbling to the floor. In your last woozy moments lying on the ground, all you can think to do is grab Humphrey’s hand for some sort of final comfort. He’d told you later that he could still see in those final moments, watching helplessly as you collapsed, trying in vain to squeeze your hand in return.
You suppose that this is how you’d come to be Humphrey’s mistress in the history books. You look over at Humphrey and you can only imagine he’s thinking of the same moments, judging by the far off look in his eyes.
“C’mon, love. No use dwelling in the past,” you try to cheer him up, a light hand on his cheek to pull him from the memory.
“D’you reckon we should tell them what really happened?” He wonders as you take him in your arms. You imagine the two of you must make a right pair to the outside eye, a bloody Tudor lady carrying a severed head and whatnot.
“I think they’ve heard enough truth today. Let them think what they want,” you smile playfully, pressing a kiss to his cheek as you walk the both of you towards the sitting room.

Fuck buddies VII
Warning: swearing, drinking
Tumblr media
Your heart is thumping, you’re sweating profusely and the room feels like it’s spinning. You can tell by the look on everyone’s faces that Rook definitely didn’t spill the beans. His date looks at Carly like she’s grown a second head. You’re glad someone else realises what she just did is fucked up. How the fuck does Carly know though? You look at Colson for…support? He’s clearly not going to give it because he’s just sitting there with that same smug expression, waiting for you to speak. Dumping it all at your feet to explain what you’ve both been doing.
You want to scream at him. You want to throw your drink in his face and the glass at Carly. You want to tell him what a smug son of a bitch he is and how he is pathetic. How no one will ever be good enough for him and that he will wake up one day, alone and sad because everyone else has grown up and moved on. Then something clicks in your mind. Did he plan this? You don’t want to believe it but suddenly all the pieces are falling into place and you don’t like the picture they’re creating.
Sophie spends 8 months of the year touring with this same group of men, why would one dinner bother her? Colson hasn’t seen Carly in over 2 years, why is she suddenly back in the picture? The only way she would know about Colson and you would be if he told her himself. The asshole planned the whole evening. The only thing he didn’t plan was Jacob but his little lap dog Carly is making sure to take care of that for him. Does she even know she’s just part of a game for him?
You take a deep steadying breath, a calm settling over you. Your heartbeat slows, your muscles untense and the room steadies. You place your hand over Jacob’s and he relaxes and begins to rub his thumb in circles over your skin. Your lips perk into a small smile and Sophie pales. Angry is one thing, calm is a whole other shitstorm of terrifying.
“Well, Colson made that pretty clear when he snuck out of my apartment in the middle of the night,” you answer her nonchalantly. Jacob whips his head to stare at Colson and he realises exactly where you’re going. “But I didn’t really have long to dwell on it because I remembered I owed Jacob a phone call after our kiss last weekend, so it gave me a chance to call him and make a plan to see him again.”
Colson’s face goes bright red and his jaw tenses. Jacob plays his part perfectly. His face alludes pride as a bright, beaming grin, showing off his full set of pearly white teeth. The glint in his eyes and the shine of his teeth, for some reason, remind you of a shark, spotting their prey from a distance. Carly’s expression is blank. She has no retort for your comment or Jacob’s reaction. Did she expect him to get up and storm out? Did she want you to get mad and stoop to her level? Jacob turns to you and kisses your cheek, trailing his lips to your ear.
“That’s the guy from last weekend isn’t it?” he whispers in your ear and you nod. “Well, ok then,” he kisses just below your ear and you giggle at the ticklish feeling.
Colson is clenching his jaw so tightly that it looks as though it may snap at any point. The clogs in Carly's mind are turning and you can tell she’s strategising a new way to make you uncomfortable or lash out. Everyone collectively breathes a sigh of relief as the silence stretches and they all return to their original conversations. Sophie moves to sit beside Slim and she joins their conversation. Jacob continues to whisper softly in your ear, every now again telling you something that makes you giggle. Colson’s eyes remained trained on the two of you, his stare full of rage and contempt. Carly is literally foaming at the mouth trying to think of how to get under your skin but you seem completely oblivious to everyone else at the table, at least that’s what you want them to think.
“Geez you two, get a fucking room,” Carly scoffs as Jacob pecks at your cheek again. You roll your eyes but otherwise ignore her, turning your body to face Jacob entirely.
“Yeah, fuck, some of us are trying to enjoy a meal here, not watch an orgy,” Colson spits at you and your fingers stiffen around the glass of your 3rd drink.
It’s the first time Colson has spoken in a while and the sound of his cool, distant tone makes your skin crawl. You try to make it look as though it hasn’t affected you but Carly spots your tension straight away. She may be a pain in the ass but she’s an observant one too. Her face stretches into that creepy smile again and you suddenly feel very queasy.
“I have to go to the bathroom,” you blurt out and quickly stand to your feet before she can open her mouth.
You push through the restaurant, finding the bathrooms quickly. You push open the bathroom door, glad to find it empty and you snip the door locked behind you. You stand in front of the mirror, holding the sink for support as you gasp for breath. Your eyes well up with tears and all you want to do is burst into tears but you don’t want to let them win. You’re tired of being that sad, pathetic girl who lies in her bed hoping for a man who is incapable of love to love you, to need you the way you need him. It’s never going to happen and you don’t want to spend the rest of your life wishing for it. A tap on the door makes you straighten and you quickly will your tears away.
“Y/N, open the door,” Colson’s voice rings through the door and your breath catches in your throat. When you don’t say anything, he pounds harder this time. “If you don’t open it, I will fucking break it down.”
You rush to the door and unlock it but push past him, trying to escape him before he can speak or even breathe near. You inhale his intoxicating scent as you pass him, a mix of weed and sandalwood cologne filling your lungs. You’re not pining for him but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a few simple pleasures his presence permits.
“Stop,” he grabs your wrist and tries to drag you back towards him but you resist as hard as you possibly can. Eventually you think he’s given up when he drops your wrist but then he wraps his arm around your waist and hauls you back into the bathroom, locking the door. “STOP!” he roars and you flinch away from his booming voice in the small space. “I-I just want to talk to you.”
“Well, in case I didn’t make it clear, I don’t want to talk to you,” you scoff, crossing your arms over your chest. You look pissed when you do that but really you’re just trying to hold yourself together.
“Don’t do that,” he begs and you falter.
“Do what?” you roll your eyes but find yourself leaning in to hear him better even though there’s only 5 feet between you.
“Pretend like you don’t care. I know you do and I hate when you act like you don’t,” and suddenly all that self-control you had with Carly finally snaps.
“You know what Colson, FUCK YOU! You don’t get to tell me how I feel or how I should act. What I do has absolutely nothing to do with you, which you made perfectly clear when YOU FUCKING SNUCK OUT OF MY APARTMENT AFTER HAVING SEX WITH ME! So take your pitty and your concern and go fuck yourself or better yet, Carly for all I care. You smug fucking asshole.”
You shove past him and this time he doesn’t try to stop you. You unlock the door and storm back to the table, grabbing your purse and jacket from beside your chair. Jacob stands and you link your fingers with his, mumbling a goodbye to the table before dragging him out of the restaurant. By the time you stop to catch your breath, you’re half way down the block, Jacob trailing behind you without a word.
“Can I order an Uber now?” he half chuckles as you gasp for air. You nod and he pulls his phone to order a ride.
You assume he put in the address to your apartment but when the driver makes a turn in the opposite direction of your place, you eye Jacob suspiciously. He simply smiles at you and turns his attention back to the window. You start to feel a little nervous as the streets become less crowded and the lights of the city start to appear further and further away. When the car stops in front of what looks to be an abandoned observatory, your concern grows. You start to think of an excuse for why you can’t get out of the car when Jacob turns to you and smiles softly.
“It’s not as creepy as it looks, I promise but if it makes you feel better I can ask the driver to stay if that helps you feel safer?” Jacob grabs your hand and runs his thumb over your knuckles.
“It’s ok, I trust you, I think,” you smile at him and he opens the door, helping you out gently.
When you get to the front door, you relax a little as you see a busy diner about 15 feet away from where you are. When Jacob opens the door, you gasp. The room is filled with colourful graffiti and hand painted art on every wall. There are lights strung across the roof, zigging and zagging from one wall to the other. A projector sits on a large shelf, facing a blank, white drop sheet. There are chairs, couches and coffee tables set up in different areas around the room, an espresso machine, fridge and bar on one side and an old jukebox and record machine on the other. An assortment of records are laid about haphazardly as if someone has been going through them all.
“I found this place not long after I moved to LA and I noticed after a few weeks of no one coming near it that it’s completely abandoned so I decided to make it a hangout. I usually throw parties here or come here with my friends for movie nights,” Jacob explains as he walks around the room. He shrugs out of his jacket and throws it on the back of one of the chairs as he passes. “Do you want something to drink?”
“Just a soda is fine,” you say as you take your jacket off and sit down on one of the stools in front of the bar. “This place is incredible! I can’t believe I never knew it existed.”
“It’s pretty well hidden. I only noticed it because of the diner down the road that I just happened to stumble into after a late night modelling gig. Was drinking my coffee and eating my sandwich when I looked up and saw it nestled away.”
You find yourself so enthralled by his story that you just sit there, staring at him. As he continues to tell his story, he moves around the room pointing out different things that he’s accumulated over the years before finally landing in front of the record player.
“This was my grandfather’s, as well as most of the records that are here.”
He flicks it on and pulls out a random record. He places it on the turntable, gently dropping the needle on top of it. Frank Sinatra’s sultry voice fills the quiet space and you close your eyes as the sound of the music echoes off the solid concrete walls.
“The acoustics in here are amazing, especially with singers like him.”
You sit and listen to the record, occasionally talking but not really. At one point Jacob convinces you to dance with him, which you do for a song or two, then you go back to just listening. The songs are so calming that you find yourself closing your eyes and swaying. When the record finishes, Jacob finds another one of Sinatra’s and plays it. The music fills the space again and the world seems ok for a few more minutes.
“So what did Colson say to you in the bathroom?” Jacob casually asks as he sits down on the couch next to the record player.
“Oh just his usual fuckboy bullshit, nothing special,” you shrug as you get up from the bar to sit across from him.
“Are you going to tell me the story between the two of you or do I have to torture it out of you?” he grins at you and you throw your head back in laughter.
“You know how the story goes. Girl meets an exciting rockstar, gets swept up in his lifestyle, his charm and somehow ends up becoming his close friend, then after a stupid drunken mistake, his friend with benefits. Girl falls for rockstar even though she swore she wouldn’t and gets hurt because he’ll never be what she wants him to be. Instead, he stays his usual, self-absorbed manwhore and she feels thrown aside and used, even though that was the whole arrangement in the first place.”
You’re not sure why telling the story to a practical stranger makes you teary but you find yourself wiping away a stray tear as you talk. Jacob looks at you sympathetically and comes to sit beside you. He grabs your hand and draws random shapes on your palm. You just sit there for a while, the silence stretching on.
“Can I confess something to you?” Jacob is the first one to break it.
“As long as it’s not ‘I killed someone once’, then you can tell me anything,” you joke and he laughs while shaking his head.
“I was Colson once,” he admits and you’re slightly confused. “There was a girl I met not long after I moved to LA and we hit it off right away. She was smart and funny and I really enjoyed hanging out with her. We were really good friends and then one day, one thing led to another and we slept together. It was by far the best sex I’ve ever had. I found myself wanting to do it again and then, as if out of nowhere, it was happening 2-3 times a week. We thought it’d be a good idea to have some rules. We never stayed the night together, we wouldn’t hook up before 10pm, if we started seeing someone we’d end it, if one of us felt we were getting feelings we’d end it. We thought we had so much control over the whole thing.” Jacob shakes his head as if he’s trying to forget some distant memory before continuing. “She got feelings and I guess if I really think about it, I did too. I hated the idea of her with another guy, I would get so pissed if I wanted to hook up and she wasn’t available. It was like she became this drug and I wanted my fix whenever I could get it but I would never admit it, to her, to myself. I constantly tried to push her away. We stopped the friends part and were just ‘benefits’ by the end of it. One day she admitted how she felt and I freaked. I said horrible things to her, I made excuses for why it wouldn’t work, I told her I was damaged goods, fucked up and unworthy of her love. I got what I wanted in the end and she ended things but it wasn’t really what I wanted, I was just scared and I ran away.” You let his words absorb in and you try to understand from his perspective what he sees when he looks at you and Colson but you’re not sure you get the connection, not entirely.
“I don’t understand what that has to do with Colson and I?” you ask him honestly. You bite your bottom lip and tilt your head.
“Colson is me. Any sane person can see that he is in love with you but he has no idea how to say it. I don’t know the guy personally and I’m not sure where his insecurities stem from but the guy wants you bad and not just sexually.”
You don’t really know what to say to that. Part of you wants to believe everything he’s saying but like he said, he doesn’t know Colson the way you do and that sounds so far-fetched and so removed from the person you know that you just can’t seem to agree with him. You sit there for a while longer, just talking and holding hands and you feel a shift between the two of you. You know you’re not in the right headspace to date right now but you like Jacob's company. He feels safe and you feel as though you can tell him anything and he wouldn’t judge you. You feel as though you need someone like that in your life but you don’t want to string him along if you don’t want more than friendship.
“I guess I should probably just be honest with you then,” you start and you nervously twirl a strand of hair as you talk. “I kind of called you last night because I was so angry at Colson that I just wanted to hurt him. I wanted to try and move and forget about him and I guess I was using you to do it but I-”
“It’s ok, you don’t have to explain. I get it. After seeing the way you two act around each other, I definitely get why you called me but if you don’t mind, I do enjoy spending time with you, so maybe we could stay friends and if my presence makes Colson finally admit his feelings, then I guess win-win?” he chuckles and you can’t help but join in. His delusional thinking is kind of funny in a charming sort of way.
You say your goodbyes and apologise for the worst first date ever and order an Uber home. You’re so exhausted that every step you take feels like 20. All you want to do is have a hot shower, put on your sweats and crawl into bed but as you get to the last stair on your floor, you realise the universe has no concern for your plans. Hunched against your door is a very sad, very drunk Colson.
‘Well isn’t this the nightmare that will just never end?’ you moan to yourself before taking a deep breath and approaching him as if he’s a wounded animal.
“Colson, what are you doing here?” you scold, folding your arms over your chest.
You feel every nerve ending tighten as you try to remain calm but every single one of those nerves snaps as Colson looks up on you. His bloodshot, puffy eyes and damp cheeks makes your chest ache and every feeling of anger evaporates.
“Why am I so fucked up?” he begs and his voice cracks.
He doesn’t wait for your answer. Instead he buries his face in his hands and silently sobs on your doorstep, falling apart right in front of your eyes and everything you knew about this man completely flips and you’re left standing there, confused and heartbroken.

Five Under 500
Thank you for the tag, @lemonlyman-dotcom 🥰🥰
Rules: list five of your fics with less than 500 kudos
(Or less than 100 more like lol)
Not Okay (But He Will be) 11 K
The first fic I ever wrote for LS - takes place between when Owen tells TK they're moving and when they arrive in Austin. Lot of TK feeling terrible for how he messed up their lives and Owen trying to gently make his son not beat up on himself as much.
A Halloween to Remember - 13K - TK is fourteen years old and lies to his mom about his plans because he wants to have a fun New York Halloween. It doesn't work out quite like he thought it would.
Sunday and TK's in Love... and the Emergency Room: 12 K - TK is fifteen years old and has come out to his parents but hasn't told them that he has a boyfriend... in another state. One week he goes for the divorced parent shuffle and tells each parent he's staying with other so he can sneak out to Connecticut to see his guy. On the way back into town, a snowstorm hits.
Weekend in Branson - 3K - Carlos is eleven years old and anxiety ridden over going out of town to tour a college with his family for his sister.
Growing Up, Strand Style - 131+ K - A canon-compliant au- what TK's growing up years were like with the addition of if he wasn't an only child. His parents have a daughter, Sophie when he is five years old, and it deals with them growing up and dealing with their parent's marriage disintegrating and their mom dating someone new and the fact that any Strand child is a magnet for danger and chaos (first of many injury chapters; when TK is five, someone pushes him off a jungle gym and his loose tooth goes through his lip). Just updated today; TK is now fifteen and Sophie is ten. Also contains chapters that take place in season 2 when Sophie arrives in Austin unexpectedly (those there are a lil bit of canon rewrite; as in no pregnancy/i'm going to be a father snafus).
No pressure tags - @dreamingofmickeywaffles @sugdenlovesdingle @tailoredshirt @paperstorm @carlos-in-glasses @thisbuildinghasfeelings @cold-blooded-jelly-doughnut @thebumblecee @heartstringsduet and open tag for anyone else who wants to do it 🫶

Today on another episode of... oh you know the drill, I'm sleep deprived, I write aus at 3am, fall asleep without energy enough to keep writing, only to do it all over again next weekend. So for this week's episode:
Benophie meet the Robinsons au
So this kid Charlie suddenly lands in 12 year old orphaned Sophie's backyard, right around the time her father married Araminta, and for some reason Charlie claims that she is the only person who can help him fix the time machine that brought him there in the first place else his parents are going to kill him. And some evil villain is out to get him. So of course science kiddo Sophie agrees to help.
Except that while she tries fixing it, the time machine malfunctions again and sends 12 year old Sophie and 11 yo Charlie into the future.
The thing is that Charlie Bridgerton's entire family is currently all in his grandmother's estate for their annual game of pall mall.
And his family is... a lot to take in
Sophie's new friend has 7 eccentric aunts and uncles, plus their spouses, around 20 cousins ( Sophie really keeps loosing count of how many cousins Charlie has), then there's the unexpected visits from the sisters of his uncle's wives, with their respective husbands. Sophie counted one two, five Grandmothers having tea in the solar. And of course, Charlie's father, the artist Benedict Bridgerton, (who has got to be the most handsome man little Sophie has ever seen and Charlie's three younger siblings. )
They all think Sophie is some kind of school mate that Charlie has brought home and treat her so well that cute orphan Sophie starts wishing she could have a family like the Bridgertons, no matter how much Charlie says that's a bad idea because his mom definitely wouldn't like it, but once the Bridgertons find out that Charlie's friend is an orphan, of course they want to take her in.
Until Charlie's mom comes back home ready to scold her son for damaging her time machine and... little Sophie Beckett finds herself face to face with genius British scientist Sophie Bridgerton. Cue the chaos from the family realizing that Charlie brought his little mom to the future.
In the end when the evil corporation is defeated and the future time continuum is saved Sophie goes back to the past, ready to endure under Araminta until she can get an early emancipation and a scholarship to put all her effort into science and create a time Machine... and then she bumps into some slacker teenager painting the walls with graffiti and calling it art. Young Benedict is far from the wonderful man Sophie met in the future, but... she wants to stick to him and figure out how they ended up married in the future, worse, as her life keeps progressing and her friendship/ on and off art trade offs, with Ben keeps getting stronger trough the years, how can she hide the knowledge of who exactly is her in-laws future spouse.
Take for example Penelope from the journalism club, when Colin Bridgerton said he'd never date her, Sophie wanted to punch him and tell him he'd regret those words soon enough. She literally saw his adult version missing his wife just because Penelope went outside for air. And let's not mention Benedict's pompous older brother who always thinks he knows best, making plans to date Kate's sister right Infront of Sophie and Benedict. At that point Sophie was just opening a betting pool with grandma Danbury and calling it a day. Simon showing up one day and pretending to date Daphne was honestly the least weird part of Sophie's college years. When they got married, she was the least surprised, she knew!!
Francesca getting married to Michael's cousin? Since when? Sophie was convinced Michael was Fran's husband in the future, she didn't know about any John...wait ..wait oh no
And let's not get started with super feminist ' I don't need a man I'll never get married afraid of children ' Eloise, little Sophie was almost adopted into the Bridgerton family because adult Eloise was an avid children's rights advocate with a husband who believed in adopting orphans left and right. To find out that Eloise, the star step mom who was all about healing Sophie's trauma, used to be some surly angry highschool rebel, really had Sophie wondering if Eloise had a nicer secret twin.
And all the while in which Sophie is going with the flow keeping up with the Bridgertons and helping them out into becoming the happily weird and chaotic family she knows they can be. She ends up not noticing that ex graffiti artist, turned gallery owner Benedict is really into her. Mostly because Sophie knows herself as his wife or rather his future wife. And he keeps asking her to be his friend with benefits so she automatically thinks he's joking and doesn't pay him attention whenever he DMs her a horny come hither.
Benedict's family on the other hand who already love Sophie, keep telling him that a genius inventor like Sophie will never take him seriously unless he's ready to give her something solid to rely on. Instead of being a shameless tease, he should be a man and ask her out for real. But Benedict hesitates because Sophie already looks like she's been inlove with someone since forever. What he doesn't know is that he's actually jealous of himself, or rather, jealous of the man he'll be in the future, who Sophie met when she was 12.
What a complicated mess.

Day 49: Hateno School, Secrets, and History
In the morning, I report back to Sophie. She says Cece loves the plain, slow life here. She thinks Cece and Reede want the same things. I should speak to him.
On the way to the inn I speak with Leop. He and his son-in-law Worten like things simple, but his daughter Prima loves Cece. This thing really is tearing families apart.
Worten and Prima run the inn. Prima's nagging him to wear a Cece hat, so he's hiding on the veranda.
I find Hateno's Goddess statue and grab stamina to make two even circles. I should probably collect some hearts next time.
Tumblr media
At the Mayor's House I chat to Clavia, his wife. Reede's got a secret shed and she wants to know why. He goes in at midday, apparently.
I wonder if the nearby wells would get me under the shed, but then I see Reede's daughter heading to the school and I decide I'd like to see it.
It's a beautifully cheerful building, one of Hudson's I think.
Tumblr media
Symin is advertising for teachers on the board outside! Is he here?
Symin!
As good as it is to see old friends, I don't enjoy having to tell yet another person that I came back without Zelda.
He says the Princess built this school.
There's a notebook upstairs with evaluations - Symin's addressed them to Zelda.
Aster, Medda's daughter. Active, loves her father, likes tomatoes, optimistic.
Karin, the mayor's daughter. Kind but shy, not confident but perceptive. Loves maths and helping her father, may one day be a scholar.
Azu, Ivee's brother, Amira's son. AKA A-Zoom, hero. Used to be best friends with Sefaro but Sefaro is now busy at the dye shop.
Sefaro, Sayge's son. Firebrand, but bright. Reads adult books and about the Calamity.
They sound like a great group of kids.
Symin writes that he had some kind of premonition before the Upheaval - he felt it before the Calamity also. He hopes the Princess will be safe with me at her side.
Well. That didn't work. I failed.
I sit in on Symin's Calamity lesson. He reminds me that there was another Princess and another Swordsman 10,000 years ago, with a Sword that Seals the Darkness.
It sets me to thinking. How long ago were the Zonai, exactly? Was that Zelda, the Princess from 10,000 years ago? In which case, who exactly was the hero?
The kids don't even believe the story. I nip back to Kakariko for a picture of the screen they have that depicts those events.
I should know my history better. Symin says the 10,000 years ago Calamity involved the Sheikah and the Divine Beasts. Zelda's gone even further back than that... but even then, there was a Princess, a Sword, and an Ancient Hero.
It's so strange to be standing here as Symin recounts the events of our Calamity. The loss of the Champions, Zelda's power, my healing sleep…
Tumblr media
Azu wants to be like the ancient hero - he's even wearing green.
The next lesson is home economics. What does Goron spice, Hylian rice and monster extract make? The kids don't believe you can eat monster extract. Kilton's the only guy I know who sells it, and he said he was going to Tarrey Town… Maybe I should head over that way once I'm finished here and fetch some, so the kids can give it a try.
Now, Reede's secret shed. The tunnels under the wells are incredibly convoluted - but if there's a bubbulfrog, I can't find it. I do, however, manage to ascend into Reede's shed and read his journal.
He's trying to breed a new pumpkin. Him and Nack are working on a Cece-inspired pumpkin to appeal to the youth.
I go and speak to Reede, and it seems that the new pumpkin is only half of his plan. The other half is to bring back an old taste that his grandfather collaborated on… is he talking about cheese? Because I already helped Koyin make cheese, days ago. I give him the sample Koyin gave me. He gives me 100 rupees for it, to be fair.
I catch Clavia on her way to bed and tell her about the secret pumpkin - she gives me some tomatoes in return.
Speaking of Koyin… I don't think she was wearing a Cece hat. I climb the hill and give her and her dad mushrooms. Dantz reminds me of his need for acorns, so I head into the forest for some squirrel hunting. It takes me the night to find one.

April 5, 2024
Judgement day.
And I couldn’t be happier that my bracket was SO wrong. I hate to admit it, Francisco crushed this.
On April 18th I will be headed to Los Cañones, Panama Oeste. Approx population 200-250. Super rural. Electricity will be an issue but cell service and water are pretty reliable. Xavier knows the town and told me that there’s an orange orchard, a big river, and lots of kids. I’m only about 30 minutes away from Los Mortales.
Along with me in Panama Oeste are 🥁🥁🥁
CAITLIN, Sam, Maddy, Sophie, and Janet. It’s a motherfucking SQUAD. I’m so excited. When the big reveal happened and we all flipped our folders over, Caitlin and I were standing next to each other and it was the most relief I’ve ever felt. That girl is gonna be my neighbor the rest of my life i swear to god. I never believed I’d be in the same region as her and now I’m letting myself be excited. And let me tell you…our families are FREAKING OUT. They are so happy because we are so close. They all cried. Sughedys told me that if i hate my new family i can just come live with her again and we don’t have to tell the Peace Corps anything.
THEN in my packet of information, they mentioned the name of the last volunteer who was in this site, pre covid. Naturally i found him on Instagram in about 7 seconds and started messaging him. He returned to Panama after his service was terminated early due tot he pandemic and now he runs a hotel in Veraguas, Panama. So essentially, he’s amazing. He’s been messaging me all night and says he still goes back to visit Los Cañones because they’re his family now. Every message he sends just elevates this to such a new level of realness. He and his brother are going to visit me the day after I move there to show me around and introduce me to people.
Today felt insane. The anxiety and nerves and energy was really stressful and although I couldn’t be happier and was so relieved, the comedown from all the emotions made me jittery and exhausted. I’m nowhere near Audrey, Liv, or Carlo. We all are making plans to see each other but who knows the reality of how well we will execute those plans. Liv is so far and I know she’s scared because she’s hours away from other volunteers, whereas i can walk to Sam in less than an hour. I’m tempering my excitement around her, but she knows that’s what I’m doing and there’s no way to diminish her fears until she’s there and it all works out. Geographically she’s got one of the coolest sites, so i intend on keeping my visiting pact.
Feeling crazy, and sleep doesn’t want to greet me again. Unfortunate considering I’m headed to Panama City at 6 am tomorrow.

Kotlc gang on a road trip
Fitz - he’s driving to everyone’s absolute terror, alternates between murderous road rage that nearly causes him to run a family of four off the side of the highway and yelling back at everyone whenever they make even the slightest bit of sound. Which is hard because they are constantly making sound. When they finally get to the motel he collapses into his bed for three hours and then immediately begins planning out how far away the next stop is.
Sophie - she’s in the middle at a window so she can stick her head out like a dog and definitely hits people with her hair by accident. Eats all of one specific snack everyone wants ten minutes later and nearly jumps out of a moving car at all the glares she gets. In charge of the aux and she alternates with Tam, but as they have basically the same music taste its always just emo/metal music that gets played w the occasional side of ear bleeding autotuned pop.
Biana - she and Marella and Linh are here to judge all the food even if its just plastic like pizza at a 2am gas station stop. They act like food criticis and make Fitz even more murderous. Changes her makeup - from foundation to eyeliner to lipstick - like five times despite being in a moving, shaking car. She’s directly behind the passengers seat and puts her feet up on the headrest constantly and it drives Dex crazy which is a feat in and of itself. She’s the only one who isn’t tired when they get to the motel and decides to ‘go exploring’.
Maruca - in one of the back seats, generally listens to music and ignores everyone but occasionally just yells something to start a fight and fades back whenever she gets bored. Has her own collection of snacks she’s only sharing if people ask nicely and so far only Marella has noticed this. Is sadly dragged by Biana to ‘go exploring’ when they get to the motel, but also cannot sleep anywhere unfamiliar so it wasn’t like she had anything better to do.
Tam - alternates control of the aux with Sophie and whenever he plays songs you can see the Black Parade flash through his memories. Gets pissed at everyone for being too loud and tries to sleep but hits his head on the window from all the bumping and invents five new death threats. He’s in the middle, squashed between Sophie and Biana, and has to alternate dealing with Biana’s makeup kit and Sophie’s snacking. By the time they get to the motel he just disappears and they find him sitting in a bathtub brooding to Teenagers.
Linh - like I said, she Marella and Biana are just here for the food. She comes out of this road trip with a new appreciation for digital art and an addiction to 7/11 road slushies. Probably asks everyone to play ‘I-spy’ all the time to everyone’s great despair. Awful at handling road trip boredom, but she forgot her headphones so her options are either draw or bother people so she happily does both. She somehow finds a pool near the motel and tells everyone someone has been murdered there once and no one is quite sure how she knows.
Marella - at the back between Linh and Maruca and is only here for food and chaos. Is the main person Fitz yells at when he nearly crashes the car for the 100th time. She nearly gets them beat up at a gas station when she cusses out some guy in a pickup truck. Is the only person who brought sufficient reading material and is also the only person who can read maps, which is a shame given she’s all the way in the back. They get stopped by the cops at some point and she tells them to fuck off. Its a miracle she hasn’t been arrested yet ngl.
Dex - he’s in the front seat as the only guy who knows how to work a gas pump, an ATM, change a tire, or anything about mechanics. He sadly doesn’t know how to read maps and yet goes ballistic whenever he thinks they’re even a bit off course. Is the only one who can match road-rage Fitz in sheer energy tbh. By the time they get to the motel he’s so drained he just passes out and then accidentally scams someone on his way to get breakfast.
Keefe - he hid in the trunk and was determined not to let anyone know but also has to stop for the bathroom every fifteen minutes. Is accidentally a backseat driver but in the worst way possible and is the cause of 90% of Fitz’s road rage. Biana tried putting eyeliner on him while he leaned over Linh and now it’s smeared all over his cheeks. Tam once threatened to tape him to the top of the car before they realized he would probably find that fun.

watching Leverage: episode 2
ok i made myself some pb&js and i am off to ep 2
spoilers, duh
thoughts before i watch:
i feel so conflicted about sophie/nathan and not in the way you think
i feel conflicted as in i don't know if i want to know all the details of their history together
like i love just the added layer that says "these two knew each other and had something in the past but have drifted apart for reasons"
so it's a "tell me!" but also "don't tell me! let them be mysterious about it!"
so will the next episode kick off from the last one? or will it be like a little time skip and some cons later kind of thing?
i'm fine with either because with the time skip, it helps alleviate the stress of building new character dynamics in a way. like, they're still new and some character will clash at first, but it's lessened a little (or not and that will be one of the major conflicts in the episode).
but i also like seeing how they work immediately after, seeing the awkward kind of team up and such. do they hang out after a con? do they live together or is that just the base of operations?
but enough of me talking about that. let's get into it!
le thoughts while i watch:
ok apparently the site i was using crashed so i spent....too long (for my patience) finding another BUT I DID IT
got worried for a second because the first scene was not with our gang and thought i accidentally clicked on an army show
rip the soldiers you seemed like fine dudes, you probably would have joined a frat
right off the bat we have deaths. like i know i said i'd wait but this is episode 2! AND it came out of nowhere!!!!
ooooh we talking about veteran insurance??? and how the govt just sort of drops them if they're disabled???....yeah, this is gonna be heavy
"i'm sorry [talking about how the guy's finacee left him after the incident]" "i'm not mad, it happens" when i tell you my heart BROKE. no! no it shouldn't!!!
also the site..... is buffering on me..... and i WILL commit crimes if i cannot watch this episode
i am glad the doctor is looking after the dude tho, but she's upset that she has to let him down and my HEART
"you know this is a soap commercial right?" god, i love you sophie, make that soap commercial a soap opera
"peggy killed her first husbanD" I LOVE HER
they made their own office goddam
ok so did they just, not talk after the first gig? did they go their separate ways and just hope that one day they'd do another heist again? it seems like nathan and alec kept in touch but what about everyone else????
elliot i want to know your life
how can one know a type pf gun from the sound of its gunshot???
wow, they really just exPOSED lobbyist corruption with the government huh....damn
oh i wanna punch that congressman
so many things happening what is going on???
holy shit whyyyyy were they shooting army men??? they were gonna kill perry in cold blood. puppy eyes perry??? perry who was practicing physical therapy after hours be himself T^T because he knows his days in that hospital is limited???
parker is so cute, sure she's probably committed arson, but that means nothing
alec is the best, i love him, he's my boy
"yeah i hack the camera just give a minute or two--" *elliot just throws a rock* "...or steal my thunder why don't you"
no matter who's together, the ot3's chemistry is *chef's kiss*
parker was just WAITING for an excuse to blow up that door akdjsd i love her AND ALEC'S EXPRESSION I LOVE
ALEC MY BOY
"this is racial isn't it?" i cackled so hard.
man that congressman switched up so fast lmao then got caught
nathan bought a tesla.....i am so sorry all i can think of it present news lmao
it is nice to have a heist show where like....nothing goes wrong
everything that they planned for happens and if there are things that go left, they have a backup for it that they use and it's so.... n i c e and refreshing to watch a show like that
general thoughts:
like, i knew there would be episodes that criticize corporations and there'd be discussion of government corruption but....episode two???? they really aren't pulling any punches
also how they show the struggle a lot of disabled veterans go through because they don't have a funded safety net. like the doctor for perry really wants to help, and you can see that when she lectures nathan about trying to scam perry (he wasn't but from the outside, it's not hard to understand why she thought that). it hurts her to have to try and help these people who just want to get better, but have such limiting resources to the point that she has to turn them away after a couple months.
nathan is very much still a firm believer that this gang of crooks can become a gang of good crooks. and this is really sweet. you can see that they gang still helps him with the heist even if they can't believe that they are good people. but i like the ending for this because they're acknowledging that yeah, it felt great to help return the money to the people who needed it, and maybe they'd like to do this again.
moral of the story: corporations get fucked and i am enjoying it
remember kids, cleaning blood money works better with cold water, not shooting witnesses. that just adds to the dirt.

REVENGE
Notes: This is NOT part one of chapter seven. As a reminder, we've switched to weekly teasers for each chapter.
If you're just stumbling across this, and haven't already done so, please stop and start by reading chapter one.
This #Batwoman AU is based on the ABC tv series #Revenge. Ryan Wilder had just about everything taken from her when we met her, and she was doing her best to get it back. In this version of the story, that means taking some people down along the way. And, she's definitely no hero.
Hopefully you're recovered from chapter 6, and ready for our season finale. I'll try to hold you over with out of sequence and context teasers while I wrap this up. See you next Friday for teaser 2 for chapter 7.
CHAPTER SEVEN SNEAK PEEK
TUESDAY, JULY 10TH, 8:00 PM, THE HOLD UP
Ryan made it through her second day back to work after the holiday that became a regressive spiral into feelings she thought she’d buried, after Angelique put a Crow in a coma, after Luke was attacked by another Crow and hospitalized, and of course after Sophie found out who she was and Ryan crushed her when she admitted she never intended to tell her the truth. In reality, going to work was probably Ryan’s best option, because being left to her own devices at a time like this could result in literal bombs being placed and set everywhere her enemies frequented. But that kind of quick ending wouldn’t be nearly as satisfying as ensuring the plan she’d spent years devising came to fruition, nor would it be fitting enough justice for them. They didn’t deserve quick endings. They needed to experience complete loss and total destruction. They needed to see her thriving in spite of everything they took from her. The only way that would happen was if she got her house in order.
Fortunately, Sophie did still help, as she'd promised, and at least a couple of Ryan’s obstacles were now less threatening. She hadn’t spoken to Angelique in almost two days, and figured she too was barely keeping it together, wondering when the next Crow would jump out and try to take her down. So, Ryan goes to The Hold Up to give Angelique the news that Sophie had shared with her earlier that morning. She can’t deny that knowing with confidence Sophie won’t be there, because she’s currently on her shift with Luke, has influenced her timing.
She walks up to the bar and a very worried Jordan greets her.
Jordan: “Hey, Robyn…how are you holding up?”
Ryan: “I’ve definitely been a lot better than this, but I’ve also been worse. So…”
Jordan: “I hear that. Well, have you eaten anything?”
Ryan: “A little…earlier…haven’t been super hungry.”
Jordan: “Not surprising, considering. Why don’t I at least put some of your favorite fries in front of you, and we can see what happens?”
Ryan: “Look at you, taking care of me…”
Jordan: “I might be concerned about Luke, but you were there…I can’t even imagine what that was like. And, I’m going to guess you’re not leaning on my sister right now… So, yeah, anything I can do.”
Ryan: “That obvious, huh?”
Jordan: “Oh yeah…but I’m not worried about you two.”
Jordan winks at Ryan, and she smiles back gingerly, appreciating the hope.
Ryan: “Are you here alone?”
Jordan: “My mom’s in the kitchen, even though she should probably be heading home soon. But, it’s our TikTok queen’s night off, and with Soph so occupied right now…I mean, it’s hella dead in here, anyway. So it's not like she’s working hard.”
Ryan: “Wait, who’s your TikTok queen?”
Jordan: “Oh, you didn’t see…?”
Ryan: “I’m not really on socials like that…”
Jordan grabs her phone, taps it a few times, and then slides it over.
Jordan: “I’m going to go put your order in. Enjoy the show!”
As Jordan walks away, Ryan watches Angelique and another woman feed each other shots, what looks like for the third time based on the empty glasses nearby them. Then she tongues the girl down. As she pulls away, she snatches a panda hat off of her lipstick lover's head, placing it atop her own, and dances away to loud hip-hop music playing throughout the bar. The clip, taken on a customer's phone, has over fifty thousand likes, which is a lot for Gotham. The Hold Up is tagged as the location.
Ryan puts the phone down on the bar, completely furious. What about that was laying low or sticking to her routine?
Ryan: “Hey, Jordan! Can I get those fries to go? Think I’m just going to head to bed early.”
Ryan's night is actually about to get a lot longer.

succession s4 e7 recap: tom, the one pepper menu item, gets spicy
sorry for the delayed recap this week, girlies. somehow i had a life to live and it was not very conducive to breaking down an episode where literally everyone is going through a breakup.
oh well.
we start the episode at tom and shiv's, where tom has made her breakfast after a long night of boning.
(this is an episode for the foodies, btw. did you guys notice?)
he gives shiv a scorpion as a present because she is toxic and can kill him.
Tumblr media
hilarious joke, tommy. hilarious.
all is not well in this household. and none of the other significant relationships seem to be doing that well either:
Tumblr media
this shot.... succession camera person, i see you.
i'm so happy we get to see rava, even if the writers are giving us crumbs at this point.
she tells ken to call her daughter. sophie is scared of the election and all the racist rhetoric which is spewed most prominantely by her father's news network.
ken pulls out his inner logan:
Tumblr media
seems like most of the kids do this episode and it is certainly not a good thing for their personal relationships....
this goes for everyone except connor, who honestly seems to be having a great time this episode.
Tumblr media
he's just happy his father is dead and that he is polling at 4 percent in alaska.
truly a power play by the writers to give con all the best lines in the episode. our girl is thriving!!
the tom/shiv saga continues, this time with sexting.
Tumblr media
can't believe they are getting some of the best classically trained theater actors in the world to write this shit.
and make faces like this:
Tumblr media
what time to be alive.
ATN is downsizing. greg is out for skulls.
shiv and tom host a tailgate party before the election which isn't really a tailgate party and all the finest people in the land are gathered, including a strange tv couple and a podcast god.
roman and ken are using the occasion to spread doubt about mattson and the gojo deal:
Tumblr media
just two failsons/CE-bros working together for the good of the republic.
also, they've invited nate to go regulatory on mattson's ass, which tom is of course totally chill about.
Tumblr media
it's the guest appearance nobody asked for and yet he has more screen time than gerri in this episode. the succession writers truly do not understand me.
con is offered a post as ambassador to somalia if he drops out of the race by mencken, but mogadishu isn't really his vibe.
Tumblr media
he came to win this episode.
gerri arrives at the party and roman is like, phew, my girlfriend isn't mad at me for firing her and my guy frank probably worked it all out with her for me, right? right???
wrong.
Tumblr media
it's giving high school drama.
let's all take a moment to imagine gerri, three martinis down, ranting about what a little shithead roman is.
the girlies stick together<3
mattson arrives at the tailgate party after shiv tells him about the regulatory route dumb and dumber over there are planning to go down.
he arrives during a moment of silence for logan, but not to worry, this swede knows how to behave and will not put his dick in the guac.
Tumblr media
WHAT. IS. THIS. JACKET.
lukas is, of course, his normal charming self:
Tumblr media
my face exactly when i'm caught between my potential future boss and the guy i've been boning nonstop for the past 12 hours.
the roman/con negotiations continue. it's a no on the slos, con wants to take berlin by christmas and contemplates opening up north korea like nixon did china.
it's giving napoleon, it's giving girlboss.
Tumblr media
if you can believe it, you can achieve it, con con.
but alas, he is offered oman.
shiv asks mattson this:
Tumblr media
if i was mattson i would eat her out right then and there.
i'm having perfectly normal feelings about it.
nate continues to.... be there.
Tumblr media
luckily he doesn't stay for long. bye bye, nate. see you never!!!
con tries to sell willa on the whole oman thing:
Tumblr media
the pros are: no lines at the airport and you can hit people with your car. bonus: you actually DON'T have to live under ground.
this is perhaps the first time in succession history that we see a couple have a truly genuine discussion about what their next move should be - together.
sticking up for your man's delusions really works out, i guess.
oscar is great.
Tumblr media
he doesn't like greg. i like oscar.
ebba wants to murder everybody:
Tumblr media
communications people with social anxiety, unite!
greg is a try-hard and joins in on the hazing of ebba.
Tumblr media
i don't think i've ever liked him less.
anyway, turns out it helps the failbros, who come to ebba's rescue, smoke a cig with her, figure out lukas is basically not the coder from gothenburg he says he is, but instead some swedish elon musk type who took some tech to marked.
bravo.
oh, and his numbers in india are completely wack.
Tumblr media
rome and ken are ecstatic!
lets run down a list of mattson's flaws so far: - fudged the numbers - sent weird items to his employee - potentially has a little drug problem? - calls things he doesn't like gay
totally inappropriate for a company like waystar, in other words.....
roman does the best gerri impression i've ever heard.
Tumblr media
i know j. said she thinks the impression is stupid but i had to watch that moment three times to figure out if it was actually her saying the line or not, so..... sorry j. <3
gerri is done.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
i feel unwell. someone please convince me this isn't their last ever scene together.
j. said there'd be ups and downs. WHERE ARE THE UPS?
roman is upset and takes it out on connor in his best logan impression to date:
Tumblr media
con is like nah, i'm good on oman and willa is like everyone hates your fascist candidate, roman.
good for them.
ken and mattson fight over who has the fakest numbers.
Tumblr media
mattson shits on new york like a true swede.
anyone doing the "drink every time someone fights" game this episode is dead by now.
speaking of, we get the best hbo balcony scene since the wire season 3 episode 11.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
at the risk of mixing my hbo references, this is my red wedding.
the fight goes something like this:
shiv: you are a social climber tom: you are broken, you never got your dads approval and you shouldn't have kids because you are horrible
at least now tom can get some sleep, i guess, because the bonefest is certainly over.
ken talks to frank about taking doing a reverse viking, meaning waystar buys gojo, not the other way around.
Tumblr media
OH MY GOD THESE KIDS. they can't even fucking pull off ONE deal before they are on to the next. c'mon.
oh and he wants the CEO position for himself. shocker.
imagine being frank in this scenario. just imagine.
tom is tired from all the sex and all the talk about him getting fired and acts exactly like me whenever i have people over:
Tumblr media
tired girlies need representation too.
the era of wambsgans ire is here.
Tumblr media
shiv is like oh fuck.
the episode ends with everyone pretty much being alone. there are no teams anymore. there are zero hugs except for one very disturbing one between mattson and ken, and i'm having a hard time remembering if i like any of these characters at all.
oh no, wait, i like connor.
it's all good. i still like connor.
ps: WHERE IS KARL?!
