I just would love to see what Colin is thinking while the rest of his brothers are beating up Phillip
" I left my sexy wife for this"
" how would Eloise feel if I got myself kidnapped on her honeymoon? Why she so rude to me??"
" this is the most time alone I've had with Penelope in ages and Eloise can't even let me honeymoon in peace"
"wait a minute... Dots connected... Kidnapped Eloise = more Penelope for me"
" if Phillip keeps Eloise, then I won't have to share my wife with her"
" New plan, befriend this Phillip guy, convince him Eloise isn't annoying, bribe him to extend Eloise stay at his house, possibly forever, no, no, Anthony's way is better, force them to marry"
"Argh Pen would have better ideas, Pen is so smart, and witty...and sexy"
" I MISS MY WIFE"

Elliot Bridgerton AU: Another reason why Penelope had a lack of suitors is also because Elliot and Colin’s constant referral to her as “MY Pen”. … Even the point will the brothers argue over her that “No, she’s MY Pen!” “I had her first!” “I’ve known her longer!”
Thus, many gentleman slowly walking away not wanting to get caught in the crossfire… Lord Debling was the first to take that risk.
You know what, I love this take, because in my Elliot Au, all gentleman stay away from Pen because they are afraid of Elliot, or think she's already spoken for. But in comes Debling, sees that there's nothing going on with Penelope and the anti marriage Bridgerton and decides to shoot his shot with Penelope.
Cue Elliot and Colin both turning away from each other and going like "did you see the audacity? Debling needs to go down"
For me it would be even funnier if Elliot eventually comes around to respecting Debling and gives him his blessing to court his Pen, on the condition that he doesn't get in between their friendship or try to keep Pen from hanging out with bestie boy Elliot. Which Debling doesn't mind.
And Colin feels so betrayed, his brother backstabbing him, over and over, like Brutus and Ceasar! whatever happened to their alliance against Debling? whatever happened to brotherhood? why is Pen not giving him any attention!!
PEEEEN!!!!!!

dating your enemy sibling with gregory and lucy? i guess it fits perfectly both ways
made it a mafia au. Because I wanted the real mortal enemies feel to it.
"Lucy how could you!!" Richard looked on the verge of an apoplexy at the sight before him, his sister and his worst enemy! in his own home! doing...doing... unspeakable things in his bed
"Oh brother I was going to tell you" Lucy said in that oh so musical accent that made her sound like an actress from an old movie "I'm so inlove with Gregory you see" she raised the covers to cover herself, giving a smirking Gregory a soft kiss.
Gregory didn't even pretend to be embarrassed " Do you mind Richard? we were in the middle of something"
" I could kill you!!!" Richard howled looking for his gun "I could kill you both!"
"he'd have to find his gun first" Lucy whispered into Gregory's ear, as they both watched an irate Richard leave the room, slamming doors and calling henchmen to get rid of Gregory (henchmen who were honestly more afraid of Greg than they could ever be of Richard, even if Lucy wasn't holding the purse strings of their payroll)
"Well that was fun wasn't it?" Lucy said getting up from bed wrapped in the bedsheet and leaving Gregory smirking at her in all his naked glory "Nice endurance by the way, your bedroom skills are top notch"
"Well, my mama taught me that when one meets a special lady, one should treat her right, and my sisters in law hammered the lesson down" Gregory shrugged watching Lucy get dressed with every intention of leaving him there to find his way out
"My compliments to the Madams Bridgerton" Lucy smiled "you were an absolute gentleman"
Gregory laughed, he hadn't been a gentleman when he'd been making every effort to desecrate her brother's bedroom with her "Hey Lucy? does this mean you're my girlfriend now?" he asked nonchalantly, giving Lucy his biggest puppy dog eyes.
The thing is that Gregory Bridgerton knew that Lucinda Abernathy had only slept with him to spite her brother. Richard was a pain in his ass most days, always competing with Gregory for everything, ever since Greg ratted his uncle out for human trafficking, Richard had had it out for him, always aiming for everything Gregory wanted and trying to kill him. The man just couldn't accept that Greg was superior than him in every way, so Gregory liked to remind him of it. With a few shots to his sternum if necessary. Honestly, Richard was alive because Bridgertons enjoyed toying with their enemies, not because Greg didn't have the motivation or the capacity to put a bullet in his head.
So when Lucy Abernathy approached him in one of Kate's parties, Greg was intrigued, he'd never paid attention to Lucy, mostly because Richard was Richard and he couldn't imagine the sibling to that particular dingbat being particularly keen on his acquaintance . Still, Lucy was a welcome surprise, perfectly pragmatic, well adjusted and intelligent (despite being the sister of a nutcase like Richard) They'd spent all night talking and he found himself absolutely enamored with her practical and unsentimental approach to life. Lucy Abernathy wouldn't know romanticism if it hit her with Kate's mallet of death and Gregory LOVED IT.
So when Lucy said "wanna get out of here?" Gregory followed. He let her use him. And when she was done, he went for the kill. Mostly because, from what he knew of his worst enemy's little sister, Lucy wouldn't have touched him with a ten foot pole unless Richard had crossed her and crossed her he did. To Gregory's good fortune.
Lucy looked at Gregory's earnest smile, for a guy who had a tendency to shoot Richard every month or so, he was surprisingly sentimental, he even bought her dinner before she took him home with her. Those Bridgerton puppy eyes were already making her feel bad, so what if Gregory Bridgerton was the type of guy who believed in happily ever after and also ran a side business of contraband armament on the weekends. Nobody had ever told her that the Bridgerton baby boy had a sentimental side, heck Lucy didn't know it was possible to BE sentimental when one was that deeply involved with the Mayfair crime underworld and yet here he was, Gregory Bridgerton, asking her if they were an item.
Lucy sighed, she was so going to regret this "Yes Gregory, I'm your girlfriend now"
Gregory smiled like all his birthdays had come at once "I have got to take you to meet my family then"
"Take it easy Bridgerton" Lucy warned, darned the guy moved fast "don't blow it" besides what's the worst that could happen? dating him for a while would be fine, she liked Gregory well enough and it's not like she was going to marry the guy just to spite Richard. With a uncle like hers Lucy had never had a normal boyfriend before, maybe Gregory was her one chance to experience how the normal side of relationships.
Meanwhile Gregory was already plotting how to make Lucy his for the rest of his life.
What's the worst that could happen indeed.

More Penelope discourse
On the topic of female rage. Here’s something you may not want to hear: Penelope can be vicious. And I personally love her for it.
What I love about show Penelope is that she is a good person, she had a wonderful friendship with Eloise in s1 and trough most of s2, she cares about her family even when they are so dismissive of her, she likes dogs, she is is sweet and intuitive and funny and so terribly cute.
But she’s vicious.
And I’m sorry if that intimidates the crowd who likes their female characters to fit into the Mother, Witch, Harlot stereotype. But the truth is that women can be quite vicious creatures when we want to be, no matter how nice, no matter how good hearted, we are. If you push the wrong button we are willing to ruin lives, without remorse and without apology.
I find it really funny how so many people are intimidated by that aspect of show Penelope under the guise of ‘oh she’s not a good person’.  Oh please what intimidates that crowd is that show Penelope IS a good person, that she does have good intentions. That she still has the capacity to be the villain of someone else’s story when she’s 100% the protagonist of her own.
Daphne sort of glossed over the concept of how women are expected to fit themselves into a box to survive in this world where they are punished for everything, but Penelope is a better example of what happens when a woman in Daphne’s situation of ‘sit still, be smart, and never get angry’ situation, has power.
Power to hurt back, if someone hurts her. And I personally think this makes Penelope’s character more interesting. The concept that good women can be monsters and still be the absolute most wonderful people you will ever meet, that’s just something you don’t see in media a lot. It may feel contradicting, but it is appealing to me.
It’s usually more understandable if the character starts out as a bad guy and then does does something unexpectedly good. But the whole “ how can a person be so good and yet....do something bad?”. Well that, that is what I call good writing.
That’s an aspect of Penelope I look forward to seeing in S3. I want to see Penelope show that just as she is good, she can be vicious and unapologetic if you cross her.
 And that’s the tea.

There's something so beautiful about Benedict wanting to be more than a Bridgerton...
Tumblr media
Then voicing these feelings for the first time and only to Sophie, and Sophie being the first person who truly sees him for who he is...
Tumblr media
To then Sophie getting angry because the family jokes about him and they don't seem to know him...
Tumblr media
To finally the family understanding how unique Benedict is...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's his love for Sophie that stood him apart 🥹🥹🥹🥹🥹
Tumblr media
It even became THE love story of the Bridgerton family!!!

I’m wondering if Eloise will get a talk with Kate, since Kate was able to tell her the difficulties of being a spinster, even though I don’t think Eloise actually listened.
Of course, she become friends with Alice Mondrich, or even meet Sophie.
This is all speculation.
Kate and Alice have so much potential to be a force for good in s3 and I hope the show utilizes it to their full capacity. Eloise needs to hear more female voices from the fringes of society. But i guess we'll have to wait and see

You know what, I think Eloise’s reaction to Penelope being LW through season 2 and to season 3 is taken from the anger Colin had in the book. She is angry and also jealous because Penelope is right from their argument, because unlike Eloise who is all talk about doing something but she never does. Penelope on the other hand DID something, she has A LIFE’S WORK, and Eloise can’t stand that.
Okay I agree and disagree with this Anon
I agree that Penelope was right and what she said to Eloise had been a long time coming, Eloise has a lot of advantages that other young women don't have and yet bemoans the oppression of a society in which she's oppressed the least. As tough her problems were the only ones that mattered. She's got very little self awareness and Penelope said what everyone else didn't have the guts to: that the world doesn't revolve around Eloise and her little mermaid ' part of your world ' problems
I disagree because I personally don't think Eloise is jealous. But rather that she had the wake up call all fake fans with a parasocial relationship have with celebrities when they meet and realize their idols are human... And flawed.
She's the audience throwing tomatoes at a performance when it's not up to her standards. The reviewer who leaves a 1 star review because their chef didn't change the menu, the Taylor Swift fan who signed a petition to 'save' Taylor from her relationship with Matty Healy. You get the point. Shes the type of fan and dare I say the type of friend who only likes something as long as Lady Whistledown and Penelope keep up the performance and conform to her idea of who they should be.
Lady Whistledown being that perfect celebrity writer and Penelope being the friend who never actively disagreed with her. So Eloise felt the betrayal in two fronts:
With LW it was very straightforward. The moment she found out that Lady Whistledown was actually an angry teenage girl and not a wise woman of the world, well of course she became an anti fan. I mean I know people in this fandom who send death threats to actors because uhh * puts on reading glasses * 'they didn't come back to the show ' well guess what, Eloise is exactly like that, just regency. I mean she's not the death threat kind of anti fan but as you can see shes definitely the ' this celebrity is dead to me ' kind of anti fan. (Although yeah, when we put it like that, jealousy is usually a big motivation in an anti fan hatred of whichever celebrity ' betrayed them' )
And I think that's the bulk of why Eloise reacted the way she did
The part that will probably go unnadressed in the show because its more messy is that with Penelope as a friend it was more personal because her friend had been lying to her, to her face, for a long time and worse, she was such a self absorbed friend that she believed the lie. Eloise thought she was close to Penelope but not as close as to see the Lady Whistledown in her. There's this whole side to Penelope, heck this whole career that Eloise doesn't know about. If Penelope lied about that then what else did she lie about? How many times did she agree with Eloise just to placate her (or redirect her away from the truth)
Note that I don't think Penelope is blameless in their fight, if Penelope felt she had to keep up a performance and pretend to be someone else even with Eloise, then her side of the friendship had its huge unnadressed trust issues too. But that's a post for another day
And that's the tea

For the reverse tropes ask: reverse fake dating for Philoise
Okay so I made it a Reverse fake dating S3 Philoise au
Anthony sighed looking over at his family as he reviewed the guests for their next dinner " Baron Honeywell, Lady Astley, Madame Olsen, oh and for tonight's dinner the man who Eloise paid off to pretend to court her, will also be showing up so I want you all to be perfectly polite"
" I've said it before he's actually courting me !" Eloise snapped
"Of course he is" Daphne patted her shoulder
" We're just wondering how much you paid him to promenade with you" Hyacinth added " Sir Phillip doesn't look like he's strapped for money "
"I didn't pay him off! He asked me to promenade, it was his idea to dance with me at the Cowper ball" Eloise huffed
" We believe you sister, he also brought you flowers voluntarily" Benedict hummed "And whatever blackmail you have over him will never leave this room "
" Fine, Eloise didn't pay him off, I make a correction " Anthony rolled his eyes, but before his sister could thank him for defending her he continued "the man Eloise blackmailed into faking a courtship" The rest of the family made various humms of understanding
Eloise eye twitched, looking dangerously like she was about to punch someone " is it really so hard to believe that we actually like each other?"
Her siblings looked at each other and shrugged "Yes"
" You have to admit El, Sir Phillip is so normal and you are so.... You" Colin said gesturing to all of her being
"Hey what's that supposed to mean?!!"
"We don't mean to offend sister, it's just that you do tend swear off marriage in front of every man you meet" Francesca tried to explain gently " And Sir Phillip has two young children, that's not exactly a spring bachelor"
" He also likes gardening, medicinal tea brewing and estate management" Kate piped up ticking off her fingers " And you... The last time you picked up a flower arrangement pamphlet you used it as a cover to attend a political rally "
" He's a good boxer, and a good marksman but dislikes practicing both" Simon pointed out, seemingly being the only one who had actually spent time with Sir Phillip "You on the other hand almost got yourself shot chasing leads of lady Whistledown"
" You're fresh off a scandal, he's fresh off a failed marriage, admit it Eloise, there's no way you're actually courting" Colin pointed out cynically
" But we are! And I see that we don't have a lot in common but I do like him, I like him a whole lot, and I like his children" Eloise protested " why won't you believe me? he's been trying really hard to win you all over because he also likes me"
"Of course he does and just in time to make people forget about the political rally business" Violet Bridgerton announced entering the drawing room giving Eloise a wink " Sir Phillip has been the picture of the perfectly devoted suitor, whatever threat you have him under, it's certainly working" she said giving Eloise a proud pat in her shoulder
Eloise sighed, how could she convince her family that her relationship with Sir Phillip was real without revealing that they've been bonding over the loss of their loved ones and a secret love of banned books, in fact most of the things Eloise talked with Sir Phillip would either land her in scandal sheets again or in jail. But he was an avid listener and answered all her questions, no matter how impertinent or illegal. She was teaching Sir Phillip the finer points of social interaction because he seemed to be worse off than her when it came to facing crowds, while he taught her about the things he'd learned in University, Eloise didn't think they were that badly suited and welcome his courtship openly.
The problem lay in the fact that nobody believed they were actually courting! By this rate Phillip would propose and everyone would still think it was a ruse. God help her
An: I had so much fun writing this one

The thing about Taylor Swift is that she inspires people to write. Regardless of how good or bad her songs are, her lyrics make people want to go out there and write, record their own stories and the stories of their favorite characters the way she does, lyrical, whimsical, deep
So what if we poetisize things when we listen to her? Isn't that what life is about?

Part of my beef with the ' what if Sophie was a guy' crowd is how little self awareness they have.
I've been reading one foo many of the 'make Sophie a guy' posts lately and it almost always goes like this
' i know how they could make Sophie into a man, all they need is to rewrite the entire story and rewrite the entire character until using a man makes sense'
And I find that a little ironic because absolutely all their posts recognize that Benedict's original story would have to be unrecognizable in order to change Sophie into a man. Its like they almost get the point, but fly way past it.
Just be honest with yourselves, and admit that you'd be willing to throw Benedict's cannon love interest and his cannon love story into the garbage for the sweet satisfaction of Benedict being gay.
I'm all for advocating for gay representation in media but the way some people go about it and demanding the outright rewrite and removal of one beloved character so that another can be written as gay, that just annoys me.
Personally I HC Benedict as Bisexual, but that's all it is a Headcannon, its part of my fanfiction mindspace until proven otherwise. I'm not out there demanding Sophie be deleted to affirm it. And I just wish some of my fellow fans would be better in that aspect
And for today that's the tea
