Artist sign-ups opening soon!

For those of you who don't know, Invisobang is a collaborative event for authors and artists. Over the course of several months, authors write fanfics and artists create art for those fics!

If you want to connect with other creators in the Phandom, this is the event for you!

How does it work?

Authors begin writing as soon as they sign up. Their goal is to write a fic with 5000 words minimum, although there is no maximum. Halfway through the event, they anonymously submit a profile of their fic.

Using these profiles, artists pick the fics that interest them the most and submit a claim. Mods will pair up authors and artists based on these claims.

During the second half of the event, authors finish their stories while artists make their art.

At the end of the event, participants share their work during posting week to create a big bang of content for everyone to ooh and aah at!

When is it, and how do I sign up?

Invisobang runs from February 14 to September 7. Author and artist sign-ups are staggered, while beta sign-ups are open for the first half of the event. Each role has a Google Form that will be posted when sign-ups open.

Authors: February 14–March 15 (CLOSED)

Betas: February 14–June 15 (OPEN)

Artists: May 16–June 15 (OPENING SOON)

Anything else I need to know?

The event is hosted through the Invisobang Discord. Participants must have a Discord account and be willing to join.

Artists must be able to make visual art or music, although you can make alternative art if your author is interested.

All content must be made new for the event.

Here's the list of available stories. They'll be crossed out as they're claimed:

You'll pick your top choices (I recommend having 3 to 6) and put them in as a list in the sign-up. Claiming is first come first serve.

Here are the sign ups:

Rules:

Everyone must produce 1 completed piece of work.

Digital, traditional art, fanmixes, fanvids (videos), gifs, collages, and photo edits are allowed.

You may sign up as a writer and an artist. However, you can not be the artist for your own story. (This is supposed to be a collaboration after all.)

You shouldn't try and tell the writer what they "should" write, if they want your feedback they will most likely ask for it. Just as the writers should not be telling you what to make, (unless you ask for their opinions). You should not harass the writer, as they should not be harassing you. If any issues arise that cannot be resolved, please contact a mod (host) of this event.

Fanworks minimum requirements:

Digital & traditional is at least 1 completed piece.

Fanmixes should include at least 10 songs.

Fanvids should be at least 1 minute long.

If you're making GIFs make at least 2.

If you make collages you should make 2.

For photo edits make at least 2.

That's right, the ball is rolling! We welcome Writers, Artists, Beta Readers, and any combination of the three to sign up now with the google forms below:

Pinch Hitter forms will open in January.

You are welcome to fill in more than one form, and you can sign up to be an Artist and/or Beta Reader for multiple projects. Please do consider the commitment that you are making though! While we will be running Pinch Hitter sign ups later on to fill in any gaps from drop outs - it's much easier for continuity if that doesn't have to happen.

When you submit the form you'll see a link to our discord which we encourage you to join, as this is where a lot of discussion will take place and where we'll set up teams (if all members are on discord)

Once you've submitted the form/s, welcome to the Big Bang! We encourage writers to start creating as soon as possible, as we'll need details of your projects in January ready for claims. Remember, claims will be anonymous, so please keep your ideas quiet until after claims are finished.

Artists and Beta Readers, you can relax until claims. In the meantime, why not tell your friends about the event, see if they're interested in joining us!

Sign Up Guidelines

The main method of communication for this project will be through email. This is how you will receive your assignment information with your recipient’s preferences, squicks and triggers, and favorites. If you have any concerns, feel free to reach out either via DMs, reblogs, or asks.

When signing up…

Please feel free to be as specific or as general as possible with your answers! For instance, if you wish to prioritize characters and ships, feel free to number them (i.e. “1. Ruby 2. Weiss” or “1. Ruby/Weiss 2. Yang/Blake”), but it is not a requirement. The goal is to give your giftee enough information to create something you will enjoy, while leaving some room for them to be creative and put their own spin on it!

When coming up with prompts…

Try your best to provide a variety! You can stick with just a setting, such as “Beacon Days” or “Atlas Ball,” you can provide a scene set up, such as “Yang and Ruby having sister bonding time” or “Team STRQ getting into shenanigans,” or you can even provide an AU idea, such as “Role Swap AU” or “Nothing Bad Ever Happened AU.” You can even provide your own AU if you’d like! If you decide to do that, try to provide at least one or two non-AU options, just in case.

When creating…

The focus of your fic must be at least one character or ship from the recipient’s list! If they prioritized, try your best to use their number one as the focus!

Avoid all squicks and triggers, respect your recipient’s boundaries, and make sure you consider their favorite tags, categories, and tropes when creating your piece. Try to use at least one of their prompts as a jumping off point, too!

If you get stuck…

You can always always always reach out if you have any questions or just need some help brainstorming. You can DM, reply to the assignment email, or send an ask (especially if you wish to remain anonymous).

Try to keep your identity a secret!!!

But if you want to learn more about your recipient (for instance, if they used their own AU as a prompt and you need more information on it), feel free to send them an anonymous ask here on Tumblr or reach out to me! I’d be happy to send an anonymous message on your behalf.

Even if you don’t have questions, reach out and talk to your recipient (anonymously) as you work on their piece! Offer encouragement, ask them questions, and just spread general excitement and love for the show!

Title inspired by June Jordan’s poem “Poem for My Love”

As a special way to enjoy some Reylo fanfiction this Valentine’s Day, the Reylo Fanfiction Anthology is hosting a gift fic exchange on AO3!

As a participant, you will offer to write a story of a minimum of 1000 words for someone’s request. You will also be matched with another writer who’ll write a gift fic for you based on your sign up request.

Sign ups open on Friday, December 8, 2023.

Sign ups will close at midnight EST on Sunday, December 17, 2023.

You will receive your recipient’s request by Wednesday, December 20, 2022.

All fics are due at midnight EST on Saturday, February 3rd, 2023 to give us time for any pinch hit assignments, if necessary.

Fics will be anonymously revealed at 12:01 A.M., February 14th, 2023.

Authors will be revealed on Wednesday February 21st, 2023.

Please note that that this is an exchange hosted on AO3. In order to participate, you must have an Archive of Our Own account. For questions on how to join AO3, or any other questions, please email us at [email protected].

Please indicate at least three prompts for a fic you would like to receive when signing up, as well as anything you do not want in your gift fic. Additionally, we are asking all participants this year to please include their favorite non-Star Wars book and movie in their sign up.

Example:

Prompt 1: Years after Rey and Kylo are married and trying to live happily ever after, a new Sith Lord rises.

Prompt 2: Domestic fluff - Rey and Ben/Kylo celebrate a holiday.

Prompt 3: Explicit hand holding

I love when Rey and Kylo banter and spar, but I don’t like outright fighting where they hurt each other. Fluff is fine! I really like when they kiss and makeup.

I do not want a gift fic with the following: Extreme violence, blood and gore.

My favorite non-SW book is Neverwhere and movie is Labyrinth!

What is Invisobang, and how does it work?

Invisobang is a collaborative event between authors and artists. Authors write a new fic that meets a minimum word count of 5000 words (no maximum). Halfway through the event, artists review anonymous profiles of these fics and select their favourites. Authors and artists are then paired together on a first-come, first-serve basis. While authors finish writing, artist create art for their claimed fic. Everything is posted at the end of the event in a big bang of content.

What do authors need to know?

Minimum word count is 5k; there is no maximum.

Fics must be new, which means no rehashing old material or working on an already posted WIP.

Sequels, prequels, and ideas you've had on the back burner are allowed.

Crossovers are accepted.

On January 22nd the moderator will start collecting summaries from authors who have signed up. Please have the summary of your story prepared and sent in by January 30th. If the moderator does not have your summary by or on January 30th you will not be included in the match-up process, and assumed to have dropped out.

Clone Calendar Event Sign Ups!

Sign-ups for the Clone Calendar Event are here! The event is a cross between a 2 week fandom week event and a micro, micro bang. As we are running it through our Discord server, being part of the server is required to participate.

It is 14 days, and each day will be dedicated to a month (from December 2024-January 2026). Posting will be November 24-December 7th 2024. Finished art and drabbles are due to the mods by the 17th of November. Further details about posting and submitting will be available in the server.

Like big bangs/reverse bangs we want the art to be a secret/surprise to those not within the event so keeping discussion, sharing ideas will need to remain within the Calendar group in the server. The theme for this year's calendar is Pinup! Swimsuit, sexy, risqué, any and all sort of pinup is welcome! Each month will be a beautiful piece of artwork of one of the voted upon top 14 clones, (Rex, Cody, Fox, Fives, Tup, Echo, Wolffe, Hardcase, Hunter, Wrecker, Thorn, Howzer, Tech, and Crosshair)

accompanied by a 100-500 word drabble.

Signups will be open throughout the month of April, and months, clones and drawing/writing groups will be given out within the first week of May.

If we have more than 14 signups, dont worry! 15-27 signups will just mean multiples of some of the months. 28 will mean two whole calendars! And so on, of course.
