Joaquín's been getting a bit bold as of late.

He'd known the baby falcon had had a thing for Sam this whole time, of course, had watched him flirt and blush his way through every conversation back when Sam and himself were still firmly just frenemies.

It had been kind of fun to watch then, is still kind of fun to watch now, even though Bucky's less and less sure with each new flirty remark that Joaquín's not actually trying to shoot his shot.

Bucky trusts Sam. He knows they're solid. They've even talked about Joaquín's obvious crush on occasion, though it's pretty obvious to the both of them each time that the conversation's still ongoing.

Bucky's a little tipsy tonight though, halfway to drunk off that heavy Asgardian ale he really never should have touched, and he's teetering over the line of annoyance.

Joaquín's an affectionate drunk, as he and Sam are both learning tonight.

He's got an arm around Sam on the couch they're sitting on, and is leaning over on him, his head on his shoulder. Sam's got that amused look in his eyes he gets when Bucky is being particularly ridiculous or stubborn about something that doesn't actually matter, and something flares a little hot in his stomach at seeing it aimed at someone else.

Whatever Joaquín's saying is being mumbled into Sam's shoulder, so Bucky doesn't actually hear their conversation till he gets up closer.

"...look so amazing when you're flying, Sam," he says, voice filled with awe. "You always look so beautiful up there."

Bucky sees green. "He does, doesn't he?" he says sincerely, hoping Sam can't hear any trace of jealousy in his voice. He sits down on Sam's other side, pressing their legs as close together as he can, and tilts Sam's head towards him. "Every day I wonder how I got so lucky."

He leans in, then, capturing Sam's lips with his own. He makes a bit of a show of it, admittedly, parting his lips and pulling Sam's head in closer. He kisses him for just a little too long to be polite, but not too long it can't be explained away by the last drink he'd downed.

It's not quite long enough to really savor the taste of the whiskey Sam's been nursing on his own tongue, but he figures they've got all night for that later.

He pulls back slowly, relishing in the way it takes Sam just a moment too long to open his eyes after, and places his hand down on Sam's thigh, entirely too high up not to be deliberate.

When Sam turns back to Joaquín, just on the side of dazed, Bucky turns towards him too, smug and satisfied.

He finds the baby bird staring back at him already, his eyes wide and his lips parted as he looks between them both, breath a little heavier as his gaze catches on Sam's chest, on Bucky's arms, on the edge of a hickey poking out from under the collar of Bucky's shirt.

Bucky moves his hand up even higher on Sam's thigh.

They might just have to revisit that Joaquín conversation again, he thinks.

Ficlet: The Little One Said (Joaquin x Bucky x Sam)

@allcapsbingo - prompt “Three’s a crowd.”

“You pushed me out of the bed,” Joaquín exclaimed, his voice laced with mock indignation. His eyes sparkled with a playful mixture of disgust and amusement as he looked up at Bucky and Sam. Sitting cross-legged on the floor at the foot of the bed, he playfully shook his head at them, unable to suppress a smile.

Sam couldn’t contain his laughter, burying his face into the pillow in a futile attempt to muffle the infectious sound. Meanwhile, Bucky simply grinned mischievously, fully aware of the playful chaos they had caused.

“I know you’re all juiced up, Bucky, but that was just rude.” He groaned and slowly rose to his feet. He rubbed his arm where he had hit it. “If I had broken my arm falling, you’d feel like shit right now.”

“But you didn’t,” Bucky pointed out with a smirk. He looked like an actual angel, wry smirk and vibranium arm shining in the sunlight. “Therefore, I feel pretty great. You know this bed’s not big enough for three people.”

“Yeah, because one of us is a bed hog,” Joaquín muttered, looking at his reflection in the mirror. He definitely looked like he had been tangling with two capable, brilliant lovers. His hair was a mess and his bare chest was littered with tiny little marks. Sam liked to bite. He rejoined them on the bed, sitting near the end of it and looking at his two partners with a mischevious smirk. “You know, Sam, you’re Captain America. Surely, you can afford a bigger bed now.”

“Hey, there’s nothing wrong with this bed. It’s perfectly normal sized.”

“Perfectly normal sized for two,” Joaquín pointed out. “Is this your way of telling me that three is a crowd?”

Bucky’s teasing expression softened a little at that. Joaquín had learned over the past few months that Bucky had a very expressive face beneath all the glaring. He had these little micro-expressions that clued you in, if you were really paying close attention.

“You know that’s not true,” he said, his tone serious. “The three of us, we’re something good.”

“I was kidding, idiot,” Joaquín said, but he knew his smile said it all. He touched Bucky on the shoulder. “Of course, I wasn’t kidding about us needing a bigger bed. Surely, they have a polyamory friendly bed out there, right? We’re not the only people in the world in an arrangement like this.”

They settled back into the bed then, as comfortably as they could. It was a little bit of a tight squeeze, especially for three grown men. Sam settled between Joaquin and Bucky, and Bucky was looking at something on his phone.

“Hey how about this?” he asked, pulling up an image and passing it over Sam to Joaquin. “Alaskan King bed. I think we could spring for it.”

“Looks nice,” Sam said, grinning. “It would solve some gigantic problems.”

“Like three in the bed and the little one said…”

Joaquin glared at Bucky.

“Not the little one.”

“Whatever you say, little one.”

Joaquin had to laugh to himself when he entered his room, just to hear that come through the shared door between their rooms. It was a shitty motel, something under-the-radar (read: gross) during a mission; he shouldn’t be surprised that he can hear everything. He should probably be more surprised that Sam’s actually letting the carpet touch his knees.

He bangs on the door just to make his point. “Hey, keep it down,” he shouts, because it stopped being awkward a long time ago that they fuck after fighting. It happens; he’s used to it. J can’t blame them either. He just prefers swimming it off if he can.

Bucky bangs his fist back. “You try being quiet when he’s--oh, fuck.”

Joaquin laughs again, leaning his forehead against the door. “When he’s what, Bucky?”

“When he’s--” and then Bucky lets out a noise that shouldn’t exist in real life, that pulls something deep around his gut.

“When he’s what?” and Joaquin sounds just as broken.

An Unexpected Addition

A fledgling, a vampire, and a werewolf walk into a party...

Joaquin retrieved an invitation from the inside pocket of his jacket. “I have an invitation,” he promised. He smoothed his thumb over a smear of blood that was days too dry to rub away.

The king grinned and gleaming teeth appeared, bright and sharp. “Good. I’d hate to have to escort the most interesting guest away so soon.” He stood then and took a step towards Joaquin. For a moment, Joaquin thought he’d walked right through the dog, but he realized it was only that the king’s shoes were the same dark color and he’d, in fact, only stepped over it.

The dog’s ears flicked in irritation while the king came up to Joaquin, but by the time they were more or less toe-to-toe, the dog had decided to follow after the king and wind around his legs. It was even larger like this. It came up to Joaquin’s midribs and it was long. Longer than Joaquin was tall and Joaquin wasn’t short. It made itself smaller in order to snake around the king’s body, but its nose was still catching up to its tail and its paws were a little less sure as it paced circles. It was, Joaquin realized, missing a front leg, not that that seemed to slow it down any.

The king reached out to hold Joaquin’s jaw. His fingers were even colder than Joaquin was expecting. Joaquin had gotten used to running cold, to other vampires being cold. But the king was freezing. He dragged Joaquin’s upper lip back with his thumb and examined Joaquin’s fangs.

“You’re young,” he said observationally. “It’s been a long time since my eyes have been that red.” His eyes were, actually, a dark maroon, like blood spilled over dirt. Earthy and almost natural. The most dangerous kind of different.

“About five years out from the change,” Joaquin said.

The king let out a soft sound and seemed about to say something, but in the span of the breath he drew, the dog was suddenly a man standing behind him, one arm wrapped around his waist and an equally amused look on his face. Where the king’s mirth hid a cool danger, the dog’s amusement and a warning lived side by side in his eyes.

“Oh, Sammy, I don’t think you were ever this cute,” the dogman—werewolf, this was the werewolf, it had always been the werewolf—said with a grin full of pointed teeth, which were retreating back into his gums.

There’s really no other word for it. His chest, broader than Bucky’s, fills out the halter top nicely; his pecs almost pop out of the low cut collar, something he knows Bucky is going to take advantage of. His thighs have always looked fantastic in a skirt or short shorts, and the nylons are accentuating them even more. He rubs his own hand down one of them, shivering a bit, and wonders if Bucky’ll wrap his hands around his thighs and squeeze, fascinated by them as he always is. He doesn’t know if he’d rather them end up around Bucky’s waist or around his face, maybe both, but he knows they’ll look great either way.

Alpine meows again.

"Yeah, You like the milk? You like Torres?"

This time she lets out a long meow that could mean anything from dad, what the fuck are you talking about, to who even is Torres, to I definitely don't like the goddamn milk, Bucky.

But he takes it as a yes, she does like Torres. Because maybe that's what he wants to hear.

"Me too," he tells her, then kisses her head. She ducks away as if he pinched her. "I like him too. Won't lie, I'm surprised."

'Meeuw!'
