So… my AU for the “Ghosts” prompt for the anniversary event has turned into a whole thing, as usual 😬. Who knows when it’ll be done. It’s already over 6500 words, and I’m not even sure how I’m going to end it yet lol. So, have a snippet ‘cause it might not be finished for another two weeks, or another two months 🤷🏾‍♀️

“I’m fine.”

“Yeah, you look it,” Bucky said, sarcastically.

“If you have something to say, Bucky, then just say it.”

“Okay.” Bucky nodded, steeling himself. “You’ve been killing yourself, and me by association, ‘cause you’ve been trying to distract yourself with work since the second Sam left. It’s finally starting to catch up to you though — to both of us really. We’ve both been running on nothing but fumes and adrenaline for months now. And if we don’t cut it out soon, somebody is gonna get hurt. You, me, hell, maybe one of the poor bastards we’re trying to save, is gonna get killed, if we. Don’t. Slow. Down.”

“We’re fine,” Steve bit out. “We’ve been getting the job done fine.”

“Barely,” Bucky snapped back. “Damn it, Stevie. That zombie almost had you last night. A freaking zombie. They’re some of the slowest, easiest to kill monsters we come across, and one almost took you out yesterday, ‘cause you’re off your game. Your head isn’t in it, and your heart really isn’t in it, and it hasn’t been for a long time now.”

Steve had to seriously fight the urge to roll his eyes and say something smart. Of course his heart wasn’t in it anymore. His heart was wherever Sam had disappeared to when he’d decided that hunting wasn’t for him anymore, and worse, that Steve wasn’t for him anymore, and dropped off the face of the earth.

Sam’s regular cell was cut off, and so was his backup. He must’ve started permanently using one of his aliases too, because Steve had searched and searched, but hadn’t been able to find a trace of Sam since he’d called things quits between them and broken Steve’s heart in the process.

Steve still didn’t know why it had happened, or what he’d done.

SEBASTIAN STAN as BUCKY BARNES The Falcon and The Winter Soldier (2021)

"He likes you, you know," Sarah says, chin propped up on interlaced fingers as she looks as Bucky from across the dining table.

Bucky thinks he should be embarrassed, wondering if he had been that transparent, but he just feels relief. Gaze flicks across to the living room where the boys had roped their uncle into a video game. Sam's focus is entirely on the task at hand. Bucky shakes his head and pushes his beer bottle around a bit. "He's, uh, he's a good friend."

Sarah hums as she takes a swig from her own. "So, you don't like him? Romantically speaking."

Bucky feels his face begin to warm. "Was I that obvious?"

Nose wrinkles just likes Sam's when she smiles. "It's cute. Look, my brother can jump out planes and get shot at all day long but he's not one to make the first move."

Gaze lingers on Sam, the way his brow furrows in concentration. Bucky cannot help the way a smile pulls at the corners of his mouth. "We're still getting used to things after the blip. I couldn't...."

"I'll help. Hey, Sam," she calls with a twinkle of mischief in her eye.

Bucky's eyes widen slightly, lips press tight.

"The boys wanted something from the corner store," Sarah says when Sam gives a noncommittal shout. "Why don't you take Buck and get something cold?"

"so who you fightin' now? gandalf?"

All-New Captain America (2015) #6

Sarah Wilson-Casper (in that straight bob that they also used in SoT and I personally dislike for her but whatever) with her two kids Jody Casper and Unnamed Girl Child. They also seem to live somewhere more suburban here.

Their first appearance (Captain America (1963) #134) shows just sarah and jody living in an apartment in harlem.

Sarah was just shot (in the head apparently?!?!) but she's fine. The daughter appears to have been invented in 2015, and I don't think Mr Casper has ever really existed as a character.

Honestly TFATWS does give us a lot more detail in their take on her but no idea why they changed all the names. Maybe they just condescendingly decided it was too confusing to have more than one surname around. But yeah. @jemgirl86

Gosh, I never really thought I'd get to 300 fics, but here I am 😂 I had done a poll about what I should do, and people wanted something cute and close to canon the most, so I sort of made this. A better idea of what Thunderbolts could be. One where Sam and Bucky are working together on a two-pronged approach to save Natasha's younger sister from being forced to work with the Contessa. Sam wouldn’t say that he was the most adept at picking locks. Sam could hotwire a quinjet without a thought. Sam could hack security cameras from muscle memory. Sam could reconfigure the system on a drone blindfolded. But give Sam an old-fashioned lock and he was fumbling. It didn’t help that Sam’s wound had already reopened. Sam was pretty good at giving himself stitches, but the amount of movement he had to do to hike the forested mountain to find a seasonal cabin combined with trying to pick this damned lock had opened the wound up. “Sam. Let me.” Sam froze. Sam felt him. The gentle hand on his waist. Sam closed his eyes as he let that hand guide him closer to the warm body connected to it; allowed Sam to lean on him. “Bucky,” Sam breathed.

Do you know why Sam is like the team designated phycologists in fics? I always see him being the one listen to Peter or anyone in the team when they want to vent to someone in the fics and I'm not sure if it's canon or just something fans agree without discussion?

When we first met Sam Wilson in Captain America Civil War, he introduced himself as a group counselor with the local VA (Vertern's Affairs) This would require him to have a master's degree in a related field and a license to practice. So, he definitely knows what he's doing. However, we don't really see him applying any of that knowledge until The Falcon and Winter Soldier, where he puts his de-escalation skills to use.
