Prompt 4: SamThor

"I'm not picking that up," said Sam, laughing as he took another swig of Asgardian mead.

Which might not have been the best idea, since just a few sips had made Sam's world a little wobbly.

How had Sam gotten here? Sitting outside on a bench in Tønsberg, celebrating with the townspeople, with Brunnhilde, with Thor.

Nephews.

It was a discussion about Sam's nephews. Sam hadn't remembered what had brought him and Thor to the subject while Sam was visiting Tønsberg, but Sam had gushed about helping out with his nephews and Thor had talked about how he had just become a single parent and the two of them talked about the kids in their lives for so long that Sam hadn't even realized when day became night.

And now Thor was so close to Sam as he flailed his arm at his hammer.

"Why not? All who are worthy may wield it," said Thor, grinning as they sat together in front of Mjølnir.

It was power. It was a force of nature. A sentient object that Sam could feel intensity coming off it in waves. It was awe in the most devastating way.

But all Sam could think about was how his and Thor's thighs were touching. How Thor was draping his arm around Sam's shoulders. How Sam could taste the Asgardian mead on Thor's breath, wondered if Thor could smell it on Sam.

"What constitutes worthiness? Your idea of the term? Your father's? Is worthiness inherently tied to goodness? How does an object justify its subjectivity?" blurted Sam, unable to hide his thoughts from Thor with so much Asgardian mead in him.

Thor gazed deeply into Sam's eyes, something captivating pulling Sam closer.

"Then humor me more than the hammer," murmured Thor as he grabbed Mjønir carefully.

Sam wasn't sure if he wanted to know. But the way Thor looked at him, the way the hammer sang - it felt like Sam needed to know.

"I blame you if this hammer rips my arm off," grumbled Sam as Thor placed Mjølnir gently in Sam's hand and...

It hit Sam like lightning. Power surged through his body as thunder boomed, a bright light blinding Sam for a moment. Sam blinked, his eyes focusing as he saw that he was wearing... Asgardian armor. As he held Mjølnir.

Sam gaped.

"See," Thor murmured before surprising Sam with a kiss, warm and welcomed and making Sam melt, "I knew you were worthy."

Sam wanted to debate more about worthiness. But all he could think about was that kiss. Sam dropped the hammer. All the armor disappeared with it as he lunged at Thor, pulling the man in for another much longer kiss.

I’m spouting Sam ship dynamics now cause Bowie (Me, Myself and I) has poor impulse control:

SamSteve

Two streets, 1) the forever will they, won’t they? Or 2) the married couple who spend all their time together, no seriously guys, it’s becoming an issue, Steve you weren’t even invited to this party why are you dropping off brownies—?

SamBucky

The two guys who’s share a mutual friend who kind of hate each other, but then one day one them laughs at the others joke and they reluctantly have to become friends; only to later realise they are actually super compatible and able to call each other out of their bullshit without falling apart so they get married and raise pets together.

SamNat

The classic “this woman could kill me with her pinkie and I’m very into that” on Sam’s side mixed with a bit of “I see you’re struggling and reserved so I’m going to slide in there with my sunshiney-ness and make you smile everyday”, but Nat’s the side of the pairing that is just endeared constantly by him because how is he so kind and sweet and I know you can handle yourself but I will do everything in my power to make sure no harm comes to you, but I also trust you to save my ass when I do stupid shit.

SamRhodey

Begins with “I’m your biggest fan, you’re my biggest inspiration” but eventually turns to “I see that you are so much more than a hero, and I can relate to the man underneath the suit I respected so dearly, and I just want to give you to world and show you it will always be worth fighting for, and I want to do that together with you forever.”

SamTony

This dynamic is all about the long intellectual talks, the silly debates, the prying into each other’s soft spots in order to spring a leak in the bottle that’s been capped so tight for too long. It’s the long nights filled with nightmares and the morning apologises with coffee and tea. It’s the guy who runs early and the guy who scoffs at waking up that early when really they’re up at that time most days simply because they haven’t slept. It’s dysfunctionally functional meeting functionally dysfunctional pair and it seems like it shouldn’t work but with enough effort on both side it does.

SamThor

It’s the pair that people pass off as the two balls of sunshine, but are actually terribly and horribly sad inside most days. They cope with humour and burying emotions, until they can’t anymore. They’re the couple who talk for hours after one of them finally bursts. The ones that cuddles at night because the idea of being without Sam terrifies Thor after losing so much, and the idea of not having Thor within reach when he knows he’ll be gone for months again leaves Sam aching with loneliness that is yet to come. But they’re also the couple who go on dates every week, holding hands and pointing out things they didn’t notice last time at their favourite ice cream store or the fossil exhibit. They’re the couple that marvel at each other’s brilliance; Thor’s knowledge of space and Sam’s knowledge of people. They bond over war, over tragedy, but they also bond over family and home and silly humans, so petty. They’re a couple that come off one dimension and end up being layered beyond belief.

SamChalla

They’re the couple that seems super cool and suave but they’re both giant dorks and huge romantics at heart. They try to go on dates — beautiful waterfall viewings and picnics with exotic fruits and walking in the moonlight — but it always ends up in disaster — T’Challa falls into the water, Sam finds out he’s allergic to a fruit he can’t begin to describe the texture of, and they both end up getting caught making out in the garden under moonlight by Shuri and Bucky, which is embarrassing as all hell. TChalla shows off his kingdom and his people with pride and Sam shows off his hometown and his friends and even though it’s so wildly different in retrospect, it’s home and they love both places equal in time.

samthor does sound like a pretty good ship! like, cmon, we got the two golden retrievers in one ship, they parallel each other so well, they’re both definitely worthy and it’d be comedy gold yet fluffy as heck and it does have angst potential, too. a critique is that there’s too many muscles, tone down your workout routines, Anthony and Chris.

(As an afab person that doesn't have access to hrt because of poverty I just have to say that I'm very very gay for muscles on men, women and nonbinary people).

but yes I would love me some sam thor! also HEIGHT DIFFERENCE!

who else is seething over Opal's UNdevelopment in the comics?

so many characters got screwed over so that kuvira could have her ‘redemption’. the way all the characters that had every reason to never forgive kuvira, or who were canonically cruel to kuvira (opal, out of nowhere), all gathered together at the end and held hands and said out loud that kuvira was redeemed and forgiven.

i especially feel angry on asami’s behalf who, despite being one of the four main characters, got less development than kuvira did, especially when asami’s incredibly complicated emotions about her father (him being someone she loved, someone who betrayed her and nearly killed her, slowly mended their relationship with each other, and then was taken from her before she could talk to him about anything in her life including korra) got steamrolled just so asami could say ‘well kuvira u killed my dad, that sucks, but i forgive u :)’ like the plot’s stepford wife.

after this comic, kuvira has more development than any of korra’s best friends, and let’s be clear that the development was shoddy, messy, forced, and OOC for everyone involved including Kuvira. honestly I didn’t even need a redemption arc. but you know what, in my opinion, we didn’t even get one.

Steve excitedly telling Sam how he got to wield Thor's hammer and Sam says "I do that a lot too". Steve sighs as Sam yet again somehow manages to work his relationship with Thor into the conversation.

lmao it honestly happens without sam being aware of it, it's just that thor is always on his mind (isn't he on all our minds though?). steve goes 'wanna grab a milkshake and sam's like 'sure! :) ha this takes me back to the time thor bought me a milkshake and then saved a dozen people from a burning church while looking hotter than said church. good times :)'

Hi, anon! Okay, so I wouldn’t wish Loki on my worst enemy let alone Sam lmao. But I do get a kick out of people putting Loki in fics sometimes as one of the characters’ weird ass hookups lol. I couldn’t deal with reading a serious attempt at SamLoki though 😬

SamThor could be cute. On a basic level Sam deserves a hot love interest who is loyal and true, so I can see why someone would like this pairing. Not really my cup of tea though.
