you want rarepairs/crackships? i'll name you some of mine, so enjoy my long ramble:
-ironhill (Ironwood x Robyn) - HEAR ME OUT! i know Ironwood is disliked in rwby fandom while Robyn is, i'll safely say, unpopular in rwde community, BUT there's a certain charm of shipping disliked character with a liked character, especially when the views of the characters differ in different fandoms. Romeo & Juliet who?/j
But joking aside, i started shipping them when Robyn was like "i thought you were a jerk & didn't care about others, but i was wrong.". Call me basic but i like when two characters find a middle ground/realize they're not what they thought the other one was.
In all honestly their relationship was such a wasted potential and yes i am also saying it because i ship them, but with the theme of trust going around it would have been cool to have Ironwood & Robyn team up and become allies - with Ironwood representing Atlas & Robyn representing Mantle. Not to mention, BOTH care about their Atlas & Mantle and want the best for it's people. Just two leaders who didnt see eye to eye, only to realize both have the same goals in mind and are not each others enemy (it's Jacques)
Right now i can't name other reasons why you should like my ironhill propaganda, but consider this - they both hate jacques so that should be a sign they're soulmates/j & they both having shooting type weapons.
But even if you don't ship it, you have to admit their relationship was a wasted potential :/
-invisible poison(?) (Tyrian x Fiona) - HEAR ME OUT...it is mostly centered around them being Faunus, BUT the thing is Fiona is a sheep Faunus and Tyrian is a scorpion Faunus. Sheeps in general are seen in a positive light, while scorpions are seen in a negative light.
It's hard to put in words, but it would be interesting to explore how these two, while being Faunus had different experiences with how others treated them due to what type of Faunus they are. (Not to say Fiona never got discriminated against for being a Faunus in general).
Both are also very loyal to their leaders (Salem & Robyn), so yeah parallels...sort of. And my mind then came up with a scene where they fight and Fiona questions Tyrian on how he could be loyal to someone like Salem and he answer with that Salem is the only one who accepts him fully, never treating him badly due to him being a Faunus, UNLIKE certain other leader who called a dog Faunus "Waggs" & just makes Fiona question her role in HH and if she would have been treated differently by them if she had been a "dangerous" type of Faunus (but let's be honest he would mostly say this to mess with her)
There's the whole aesthetic/tropes with them too - short x tall, good x evil, kind x terrible etc. And I once decided to search them on google in case I find something, and while it wasn't a fanart, I did found a drawing of them together, so that's something.
-firewall/electric fire (?) (Watts x Cinder) - they hate each other and that whole balcony scene of Watts calling out Cinder's bullshit. Also unlike Ironwatts & Ironwood x Jacques, instead of them having divorced & sick of each other exes vibe, they rather have two people who refuse to get a divorce because they're petty af and want to see the other sufer. Next question
-target practice/pvp (?) (Penny x Pyrrha) - i might not ship it as i used to, but i think it started when i thought about how Pyrrha died thinking Penny is dead (which she was and will be), while Penny got brought back, not knowing Pyrrha is dead (does she know it is unknown but for the sake of angst im chosing this option) and then my mind thought of PvP Childhood AU, where Penny got the chance to travel around the world years ago and befriended Pyrrha with them keeping in touch over the years and getting to see each again other at the Vytal festival.
And yes that does make their fight a lot more devastating because now Pyrrha dies feeling the guilt of killing her best friend and Penny comes back only to learn her best friend is gone and died not knowing she's alive (if we assume bringing Penny took a lot of time).
Aside from the angst, I think they could have had a cute dynamic :)
-envy zinnia (Emerald x Ren) - it's the "because she's scared just like us" for me (dont remember if he said that because he used his semblance). It's the way Emerald reacted to his words and denied them. It's the way Ren looked at Emerald while others were arguing about her joining the team (i think it was Yang who mostly against it).
It's the idea of Emerald assuming Ren can read her well because of his semblance and trusts her based on that, only to learn he had never used his semblance and trusts her, because he wants to and sees good in her for me.
It's the idea of Ren feeling complicated about his feelings about Nora, because he feels like he should fall in love with her given she's his best friend and had always been by his side, only to fall in love with his former enemy. (nooo, i did not drop the summary of my wip here, nooo)
There isn't much with this ship, for me this mostly being "hey this is a neat one" only to then imagine Emerald getting flustered over Ren holding her hand or looking at her with a soft gaze in his eyes.
OKAY YOU SENT ME A LOT (WHICH I LOVE THANK YOU SO SO MUCH) so im gonna put my responses under a readmore bc i do actually wanna put thought into each of these
okayyyyy lets start with IRONHILL: well i think ironwood is a whole gay man but thats just MY hc so like. of the female characters u can ship him with its not the WORST option? like i 100% totally get what u mean that sometimes theres so much wasted potential or a better story hidden behind a dynamic that you either dont get to see on screen or doesnt get nearly enough to work with that u kinda end up shipping them just bc u want more of them. im not sure i see any romantic or sexual chemistry between them personally so i feel like i would "ship" them as like Business Partners. like
robyn: would you like... to form an alliance with me
james: ... yes, yes i would
robyn: EXCELLENT >:333
NOW TYRION/FIONA. This Interests Me. like i love corruption type romances, where the innocent or happy or naive one gets a dark or bad boy or straight up evil lover. some real hades/persephone type shit. ive said before that i love angel/demon imagery and u cant get more heavenly than a lamb. also i do agree that i think their parallels of their roles are very interesting and i also dont like robyn so anything that gets fiona away from her is good with me! i feel like i would really love like almost a roleswap of them? like a fiona slated to be a maiden candidate for salem, on the bad guys side, and a tyrion that was still fucked up but he is like on ironwoods payroll as a ace-op special assassin or something, like i feel like that would be really fun LOL or like a tryion that was just SLIGHTLY less insane and not on salems side but like is still a bad guy and he gets wounded and fiona finds him dying in the woods or something and brings him back to her little cottage and fixes him up and they bond as he recovers like THATS TASTY
cinder/watts im not a fan of. i do get what u mean about them having toxic divorced exes energy but i feel like watts/ironwood does that in a way sexier and fun way and i dont want to subject cinder to that sort of vibe tbh (i have another cinder-centric rarepair thats genuinely my cinder otp so theres also that)
TARGET PRACTICE IS A FUCKED UP NAME FOR PYRRHA/PENNY SKCBSODBSPEHEJ but pvp is deffo something i get... in a completely au context. like nothing about their canon vibes click for me? but with ur whole childhood friends thing i get it; i think like if somebody told me to outline a pvp fic, i would like. okay pyrrha is brought to beacon on a special recommendation and before she even starts the school, shes brought in and told about the maidens and magic and penny and the proposal to make her the next autumn and penny the next winter and ironwood and ozpin ask if shes willing and if she is, will she work with penny? and the two of them are assigned as partners (meaning jaune gets a new partner which according to canon would be WEISS so hello thats fun) and they bond and struggle with making friends and being 'normal' with these pressures and its quite bittersweet and emo and cute i like it
NOW YOU HAVE TOTALLY SOLD ME ON EMERALD/REN. i love putting ren with literally any other character and i feel like emerald has such a simple but good character that she can fit with a lot of people and tbh u really have sold me on them. i really like the imagery of like ren and emerald both having this barrier for whatever reason that prevents them from being open and honest with their feelings but using their semblances as different private u iqie communication that just WORKS for them they are both autistic and hot and i think they should kiss also their shades of green being complimentary and ren and her just having this really fun dynamic of them both being really snarky and sassy but quiet and observant and they just VIBE im highkey lowkey obsessed with the idea... ren and nora are side characters in my fic but they are on a team with merc and emerald (trust the process) and the plan is currently actually emerald/neon but... somethings may have to be rearranged bc im actually really REALLY into the idea of ren and emerald... SHIT YOU ACTUALLY DID IT YOU ACTUALLY SOLD ME ON REMERALD.....

RWBY BUT ITS RANDOM TIKTOKS AUDIOS! PART 1
Team rwby and jnrp would be fighting a bunch of grimms until nora would grab an electric grenade and pull the pin and jump in the middle of the grimms killing them and she would be standing there kind of dizzy and everyone would be confused and worried.
Weiss: How are you not dead ?!
Nora: I HAVE NO IDEA BUT THIS WAS AWESOME!
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Both team would be having coffee together and yang would show a kinda sad but funny video and most of the group would have some tears on their face or sad expression
Jaune: Hmm i guess i'm just too tough to cry..
Pyrrha: Yesterday you were crying about snakes.
Jaune: They dont have any arms!
Pyrrha would giggle and pat jaune's head.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jaune and cinder would be fighting and jaune points croceas mors to cinder with an expression of hate on his face and she would look at him with mild curiosity.
Jaune: For your information Cinder I have never hated anyone before this day but you I hate you!
Cinder: Do you really hate me...?
Cinder would hear this and sit by a broken pillar and sit with her hands over her face crying and jaune would just stare at it confused.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ruby: Mental health? Zero.
Jaune: Am i okay? No.
Ruby: Will i be okay tomorrow? probably not.
Jaune and ruby: Hotel? Trivago.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cinder and neo were in front of a building on fire and everything was destroyed and emerald runs and looks at the two with an expression of anger and confusion
Emerald: Why would you think any of this was a good idea?!
Cinder : Probably because i'm a sociopath with a long history of violence.
Emerald: Oh..
Cinder: I don't understand how you keep forgetting that
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Negative Weiss would be holding pyrrha hostage and jaune pointed his sword in her direction and would look at jaune with a sadistic smile.
(N) Weiss: You'll never have her!
Jaune: And why is that ?!
(N) Weiss: beacause i love you.
Jaune would be slightly blushing and confused and pyrrha would look at weiss negatively with a hateful expression.
Pyrrha: Girl if you don't-

Soulmates
So, I got interested in Parahumans again and remembered just how much I love Cluster Triggers/Grab Bag Capes, and I was wondering how those I could incorporate them into other power systems...
And then I remembered RWBY.
So, concept: Auras of different people can intermingle, so to say, granting minor secondary powers reflective of the other's Semblance, but there are caveats.
First: All parties need unlocked Semblances in order for this to actually occur, or have the event unlock Semblances as well. (Sorry, Penny and Oscar)
Second: Besides the obvious powers, participants are left with an intense emotional connection with one another, and a sense of when there soulmates are close and general sense of their emotional state.
Third: This connection is essentially a trauma bond, and while this can occur between Romantic partners, family, teammates, etc. there is absolutely nothing stopping soulmates from enemies
Fourth: One person can have multiple soulmates.
Ruby
Main Protagonist herself, she has a lot of soulmates. Not all of them are good.
Cinder: Established when Ruby unlocked her Silver Eyes. Following this, Ruby's Petal Burst becomes more explosive, and she can set her petals on fire (For her own peace of mind, she pretends this comes from Yang). Cinder, meanwhile gained the ability to contort parts of her body into something resembling sharpened glass, and extend her body parts while in that state. (She refuses to use this ability at all until after Watts'...'pep talk')
Jaune: Quietly established during their fight in the Ever After, Ruby gained the ability to passively boost auras around her, including herself, as long as she has hope.
Neo: Possibly established during the 'Tea Party', giving Ruby the ability to split off some rose petals to create simple illusions with some vocal ability. Neo's return ability never got the chance to be used, though she might have gained the ability to turn her illusions into twisted spires of fragmented glass.
Jaune
Weiss: Established during the Haven fight, giving him to summon simulacrums of of Aura infused objects and people he's interacted with using his Semblance (such as weapons) the clones of people aren't really usable in a fight, but he can summon weapons, such a spectral copy of Crocea Mors, Penny's swords, and even Pyrrha's weapons. Weiss, meanwhile, gained the ability to boost the Auras of anyone in proximity of her Glyphs...while she's singing.
Ruby: From Ruby, he gained the ability to momentarily phase through objects in between him and those he feels he needs to save.
Blake & Yang
That bond was quite obviously established during the Fall of beacon, after Adam cut off Yang's arm.
Blake: From Yang, Blake's Shadow Clones became more resilient and more animated, though this is reliant on taking hits herself.
Yang: From Blake, he gained the ability to "extend her hitbox", allowing her to extend her aura away from her body using body motions to increase her striking distance or essentially drag herself in the Aura's wake.
Ren & Nora
Established very long ago, and our first seen example:
Ren: From Nora, he gained the ability to reduce the damage of strikes the calmer he is.
Nora: From Ren, she becomes happier, and thus less noticeable to Grimm, the more electricity she absorbs.

This might be a controversial opinion, but I personally like the idea of magic existing alongside Aura and Semblances. I think the idea of a story having multiple distinct magic systems, especially if one is more powerful and mysterious than the other, is really neat.
But the key word here is "Distinct". In order for this idea to work, the differences between magic and Aura need to be clear. But, there are no rules for what semblances can do (Except not turning you into a bird. That is the sole rule of semblances), and there are no rules for what magic can do either. In fact, it seems like semblances can actually do more than magic in RWBY.
Semblances let people:
Enhance their physical and mental capabilities
Manipulate Luck
Create all different kinds of Illusions
Summon eidolons
Shrink objects
Turn objects into gold (Yes, really)
Telekinetically manipulate objects
Shapeshift into rose petals or iron (Only bird related shapeshifting is banned, apparently)
Absorb various types of energy to become stronger
Teleport
Turn invincible for 60 seconds (This is the weirdest one to me)
Fly
Mess with people's minds in various ways
Steal or copy other people's Semblances
And other stuff I'm probably forgetting
Meanwhile, magic lets you:
Fly
Shapeshift into birds (and presumably other forms, but we literally never see that)
Manipulate the weather
Shoot fire, lightning, and ice.
Create, lock, and unlock weird doors
Obviously, this is doesn't work. Semblances can do practically everything magic can and more. Meaning that magic doesn't feel different or special in any way.
So, what would need to be changed? The most obvious route would be to restrict Semblances.
One way to do this is just create a list of things Semblances cannot do. Such as:
Semblances cannot physically change their user's body. While we're at it, let's also add that Semblances cannot physically transmute other objects either so no shrinking or turning shit into gold.
Semblances cannot create fire, earth, ice, lightning, etc., only Dust can do that (God, I haven't brought up Dust yet). And anything that a Semblance does create is just an Aura construct that will vanish like Weiss's Summons or Sun's Clones.
Semblances cannot grant flight. A bit pedantic, but the scene of Amber first using her Maiden powers by floating into the air would hit harder if flying isn't something normally attainable in RWBY.
While I would like to add more stuff to the list of cannots, when defining a power system based on what is can't do, it's best to keep the list of restrictions short.
Another way to limit Semblances create specific categories that Semblances fall into and have each Semblance be some variation based on their category. For example:
Enhancement: These Semblances enhance the user's pre-existing capabilities in some way when used. This would cover stuff like Harriet's, Neon's, and Ruby's speed (And Ruby's would stay speed, none of that pseudo-teleport stuff), Ironwood's super willpower, Maria's preflexes, Hazel's pain tolerance or fast Aura regeneration (Pick one), and maybe Tock's 60 seconds of invincibility (though I still think that's dumb).
Absorption: These Semblances can absorb damage to make the user stronger. This would cover stuff like Yang taking damage and then getting a limit break, Nora absorbing specifically electricity, and Adam storing damage in his weapon and then returning it.
Manipulation: These Semblances allow their users to manipulate objects around them. This would cover Pyrrha's polarity, Glynda's telekinesis, and Neptune's hydrokinesis (which only exists in the books).
Constructs: These Semblances allow for the creation of constructs made of Aura. These constructs aren't permanent and disappear after time or if the user's Aura breaks. This would cover Weiss's glyphs and summons (though, I personally think these two powers are too different to be a single Semblance), Sun and Flynt's clones, Neo's illusions, Blake's after images, Vine's whips, and Elm's sticky feet.
Mind: These Semblances allow for the manipulation of the minds of other beings. This would cover Emerald's illusions, Ren's emotion suppression (In canon, it only masks your negative emotions from Grimm, but here, it would actually dampen your feelings while used), Fox's telepathy, Yatsuhashi's memory erasure, Marrow's freeze (here, it would be mental manipulation, rather than however the hell it works in canon), and Robyn's handshake of truth.
Any other Semblances in the show would be altered to fit one of these categories or cut entirely.
Finally, another option would be to cut Semblances completely. Instead, have Aura techniques that characters can use by manipulating their Aura in special ways:
Sending out sword beams of condensed Aura from their weapon swings to attack from a distance. THIS IS A CANON TECHINQUE. I want to stress this, Aura techniques are already a thing. Blake shots a sword beam at Roman in V2, and Qrow does the same to Winter in V3.
Leaving behind a physical shadow made of Aura to take a hit. At higher skill levels, these clones can even more and attack on their own, like what Adam did with his shadow clones in the fight against Yang in V6 (Which means that this is also a canon Aura technique, I guess?)
By expending a some Aura, people can temporarily increase their speed or strength in short bursts. Stuff like Ruby's speed would be handled with this.
Aura normally covers the body like, well, an aura, but it can be extended and manipulated. This allows for the creation of Aura whips from the hand or Aura anchors from the feat to duplicate affects similar to Vine's and Elm's Semblances in canon.
Aura can be used to activate dust (this comes from the Dust WoR video, which seems to be noncanon now) and manipulate its effects. This allows for technics like Weiss's Glyphs or that funky glass stuff that Cinder used in V2.
And finally, a secret technique passed down through the Schnee family allows the creation of an Aura construct that mimics a foe the summoner has bested (A mental requirement more than anything). While powerful, it is incredibly taxing on the summoner's Aura.
Here, Aura itself becomes the main power system akin to something like Ki from Dragon Ball or Hamon from JoJo. After awhile, the audience would get a feel for what it can do, but the writers would still have some freedom to introduce new techniques so long as they aren't too out of line with what's already been shown. Obviously, this would limit the collective abilities of Hunters more than any other option (and require the most changes to canon), but in doing so, it would could magic even more notable.

Total Number of Completed Works/Fandoms Written In: 24 completed works for a total of just under 150k posted. posted five RWBY fics, posted twenty one LotR: TRoP fics, and one Baldur's Gate 3 fic.
Overall Thoughts: horny as hell, tracks.
Personal Favorite: my personal favorite for the year is probably the first cut is the deepest, mostly because of the themes I get to explore. the sequel is shaping up to be one of my favorite things I've ever written, but I really do love how visceral and vivid this one is. It was also me really dipping my toe into horror, which has been a blast!
Most Under-appreciated: going to have to once again say the first cut is the deepest because I poured so much into this emotionally and creatively. maybe not my best work of the year, but I really do adore it.
Most Popular: Fucking in Love continues to dominate my stats, but of the ones exclusively posted this year, out had the most hits and a fairy tale had the most kudos! although you know where to find me is creeping up there quickly, especially considering how not so long ago it was posted in comparison to the other two.
Story with the Sexiest Moment: oh GOSH, what a choice! i think i have to go with catharsis when Galadriel is interviewing Halbrand about what punishment "how that would work," I loved that dialogue and body language. That whole fic is really sexy, though, lots of fun moments in there! Out of the corner of her eye, Halbrand shrugged.  “For the first time, I’d recommend staying simple.  It can be overwhelming, for some.  Brings up things some people aren’t ready to feel, or don’t realize they feel.” She tried not to take that as a challenge.  “You’re making it sound intense.” “It can be,” he said.  “I’ve had a lot of criers afterward.  It’s a, ah, catharsis, if you would.  Releases all your pent up shit and makes you feel it.  Not a bad thing, just intense.”  He tilted his head.  “You seem like you would like intense.”   Galadriel bristled, even as her insides turned gooey and her tongue twisted itself into knots.  She settled on, “And if I would?”
Most Fun Story to Write: WHAT A DECISION! writing Fucking in Love with @set-wingedwarrior is always a blast because of its nature as a collaboration. in most recent memory, you know where to find me was exceptionally fun, especially the dialogue scene with everyone. I don't know, writing Astarion and Shadowheart bitching at each other was a blast!
Hardest: emotionally, the darkest day was tough because of personal experiences but also quite a release. creatively, Fucking in Love poses a challenge if only because it is intimidating to be writing such a loved fic. as much as we try to keep that in perspective, knowing thousands of people have literally read it is intimidating!
Biggest Surprise: starting to write dead dove! it came at a crucial point in my personal life, and I'm so grateful it did, for both the emotional coping it has brought me, the community I have found, and the fun i've had.
Did you take any risks in writing this year?: OOO! I guess I took a few! Starting to post dead dove was certainly a choice and one that I'm still nervous about, but also broaching out into horror! I've been quite settled in my niche for a few years now, so trying something new in both those regards was quite a risk for me.
Most Unintentionally Telling Story: while it's not posted, I am going to say the sequel to the first cut is the deepest if only because I really dig down into a LOT. of the works I've posted, catharsis was a turning point for me personally in some ways, or a pivot point at least, just because that psychological and emotional release alongside the physical one is such a huge aspect of why I write smut.
Favorite Lines/Scenes: DON'T MAKE ME CHOOSE! ahaha, in all seriousness, the parallel opening perspectives and ending in meant to be (if it comes back) makes me tickled pink.

Introducing Team ORCT (Orchid)! I did a lineup for my RWBY OCs and their updated designs!! :D I also changed some of their names and details about some of their semblances, so if you're interested I'll include everything below!
Ophelia Rouge (she/her)
An overly confident ram faunus, leader of Team ORCT, and Rica’s girlfriend! Ophelia’s from Mantle, but moved to Vacuo to attend Shade academy. She loves strategizing/planning, as well as a good challenge, so the fact that her own semblance has a limit of uses before affecting herself only adds fuel to her brainstorming, which allows her to patiently observe her opponent while keeping her cards close to the chest before making a move.
Semblance: Contagious Yawn
Her yawns create a bubble that causes a target to fall asleep when popped near them. The amount of time the target sleeps depends on Ophelia’s aura. If her aura breaks while using her semblance, then she risks falling asleep instead!
Weapon: Dust projection worry ring
She has a ring on both hands embedded with ice, fire, rock, and electricity dust that projects a shepherd’s axe made out of whatever dust is being used!
Fairy Tale Inspiration: Little Bo Peep
Rica Venetus (she/her)
An eagle faunus from Mistral who moved to Vacuo to attend Shade Academy. She can give a mean punch and the best hugs, and also Ophelia’s girlfriend! She's a people person and is very observant and sensitive to other people’s feelings - could this be heightened due to her semblance? Either way, if you’re ever struggling, Rica is the best person to help.
Semblance: Shared Sight
Allows her to bond to at most 3 people at a time, no matter how far they may be, to let them see her POV or vice versa!
Weapon: Multi-Use Dual Blades
Dual blades combine to make a double bladed glaive by connecting the bottom of the handles with gravity dust. When in dual blade form, they can also bend resembling a boomerang
Fairy Tale Inspiration: 'The Griffon' fairy tale
There wasn’t really much for me to work with inspiration wise, but the griffin’s main purpose in the story is so the peasant’s youngest son can retrieve a feather from him. With that in mind, I decided to have a sort of feather motif to her faunus attribute and the shape of the blades to her weapon
Clementine Dandy (she/her)
A soft spoken transfem donkey faunus from Vacuo who doesn’t have the best luck with making new friends (mostly because she never knows what to say), but she seems the most outgoing while in combat. She doesn’t get hot easily despite bundling up for her semblance while living in such a hot region - much to her teammates' confusion. Contradictory to her tendency to overthink when confronted with conversation, she’s painfully oblivious whenever thinking about herself.
Semblance: Cloth & Dagger
Manipulation of any article of clothing on her person for offensive/defensive purposes
Weapon: Revolver with dust bullets
Fairy Tale Inspiration: Donkey Skin Girl
Thistle Cheshire (they/them)
A fun-loving cat faunus from Vacuo, Thistle is best known for their dexterity, flexibility & ability to make anyone chuckle. They also have a big crush on Clementine, and of course - even though Ophelia and Rica think it’s obvious - Clem is oblivious.
Semblance: Surprise Party!
Allows them to teleport while giving off the image of a ribbon vanishing, and when they reappear bits of ribbon/confetti pop out with them! Limitations of their semblance include:
More aura is used when teleporting anywhere further than 10 ft. (any distance less than 10 ft. requires very little aura)
Over-reliance of semblance = fatigue and dizziness
Teleporting w/ someone is possible, HOWEVER, the amount of aura utilized is multiplied per extra party member.
Weapon: Dust-Infused Yoyo
Various yoyo tricks utilize fire, electricity, gravity, and hard-light dust to enhance the impact of their attacks/defend themself
Fairy Tale Inspiration: Cheshire Cat
For their semblance, I was inspired by the 1951 Alice in Wonderland film's version of Cheshire Cat when he vanishes while sort of leaving a trail of stripes. So I wanted to do something similar!

This was supposed to be posted forever ago but I just saved it in my drafts and never realized it.
@darkchocolatekitkat 's Nitpick November about Dust in the show inspired me to explain how Dust works in my AU a little bit. I decided to drop some Dust types that weren't working for me and change some of their colors. I find Dust such an interesting part of RWBY's world because it gives you a good excuse for why the world's technology is so advanced, but they still haven't gone to the moon. I just feel like elaborating on this world building a little bit. For example, Dust isn't just a weapon, it's also used as a power source for household items and transportation, in the same way electricity is used. This is why the SDC has such a chokehold in the city, they've ensured that Remnant City literally cannot live without them.
Tumblr media
Fire Dust is red and can be used for a number of attacks, explosions, flame throwing, regular old ammunition, but it also is used in central heating systems, ovens, microwaves, toasters, waffle irons, stoves, and sometimes will be woven into the insides of winter clothing to keep people warm.
Tumblr media
Ice dust is light blue and used basically for long range stabbing, sheilding, and as a sort of grease trap substitute. Basically all the ways Weiss uses it in the show. It's also used in fridges, freezers, coolers and air conditioners.
These two types of dust are also used in lunchboxes to ensure the food inside either stays hot or cold.
Tumblr media
Lightning Dust is yellow and used as basically a taser during battle, it's also used in all sorts of electrical items. Although now that I'm thinking about it, all of the items that are usually electrical can be taken care of by other types of dust. I'll figure this one out eventually.
Tumblr media
Rock dust is black now so that three types of dust are team RWBY'S colors. In battle it can be used to change the battlefield's structure and create shields. It's primarily used as a mining and architecture tool and will sometimes be used for sculpting as well as being put in dust paint.
Tumblr media
I changed gravity dust from purple to indigo blue because Ironwood uses gravity dust and I wanted it to fit into his color theme. Gravity Dust can be used in multiple ways on the battlefield, but its main purpose is transportation. It's used in airships and sometimes decorations.
Tumblr media
When I saw that post and read the suggestion that hard light dust should be white, I kind of just ran with it. It makes sense since in the white trailer Weiss's rapier lit up as she was preparing her final move, (which I'm totally keeping) and it would probably get rid of the weird electric blue color all the screens in the show have. Which is a good idea to me because I want the background aesthetics for this AU to match the trailer style of the backgrounds being the main girls' colors, so white scroll and TV screens it is!
There's other things about Dust that I inferred from the show, like how if it's hit by something too fast or hard, it will immediately activate, but if it's slowly and gently ground down, it will become a fine powdery substance that can be activated with a gentle touch or prompting. When used in dust paint or woven into clothing, it glows automatically without necessarily being activated.
But so far this is what I've got. If anyone has any suggestions for what lightning dust can be used for, I'd be happy to hear them! So far all I'm thinking is maybe lightbulbs because hard light dust is usually just for TV and scroll screens and the occasional shield during battle rather than an actual source of light, but at the same time I feel like I'm only doing that just because I need to figure out what lightning Dust can be used for in this world.

Weiss is one of the strongest characters on Remnant and I'm tired of pretending she's not.
OK. Bold statement I know but, in this post, I will prove why I think that at the very least. So, in the show we know that Weiss can one:
Summon enemies she killed in the past
Summon just parts of past enemies (Worthy)
Can change the size of her summons (Unforeseen Complications)
Her summons can teleport through her glyphs (Dread in the air)
Make platform glyphs
Augment her glyphs using dust (there are 12 kinds btw)
Can control and manipulate dust (Ice fist the tournament and Lighting the candles in Brunswick farm)
Can use her what seem to be base glyphs to hold things in place (End of White trailer)
Can use (what I call) “Moonshot” (End of White trailer)
Has excellent fencing and sword fighting skills
Can skate on her glyphs
Use time dilation
Tactical minded (wiki)
And based on what I can gather most likely has a lot of aura since apparently according to the wiki. Semblances use aura as a power source. With how semblance heavy Weiss’s fighting style is she should have something close to Jaune’s level
Also, it can be used as power source apparently (JLxRWBY P1)
With all of this I feel as though it really just takes a little bit of creativity and suddenly Weiss can best 95% of the characters in RWBY. But Weiss has low endurance and glyphs are breakable. Is what you might be saying and honestly that just straight up doesn’t make sense like, how many years has she trained in order to be a huntress.
Fencing is not easy to learn and having a good base of endurance is necessary in order to learn any weapon because how tiring it can be to hold a weapon. Now I’m not saying Myrtenaster is as heavy as Crescent Rose or something but even something that is lightweight can become insanely heavy when you have to use it for a long time.
Now getting into some interpretation territory, why would Weiss who comes off as a hardworking studier who seems to be a perfectionist not have a good base of endurance when she knows that Grimm isn't just going to wait for her to catch her breath real quick. Some arguments I’ve seen used for Weiss’s lack of endurance are the White Fang lieutenant smashing her head into the ground and trying to decapitate her and Nora hitting her into a concrete pillar.
This is horrible reasoning in my opinion as to why Weiss has low endurance. Do you really think that the other girls could have survived that hit on the train? Do you think Blake could’ve totally tanked that hit and been fine? Ruby? Hell Yang? Yang got taken out by a weaker hit in the same fight sequence.
In Yang and Neo’s fight, Yang misses all of her punches while Neo lands a couple of hits on Yang then throws Yang into the metal roof and knocks her out.
Weiss on the other hand lands all her attacks and was then grabbed out of the air and had her fucking head slammed into the metal floor then throw into the air and almost decapitated by a fucking chainsaw. Like what, who the fuck could’ve survived that hit cus it sure as shit isn’t Yang.
And the Nora food fight once again I ask could Blake survive that hit? Could Ruby? Sure, I think Yang could’ve but that doesn’t change the fact that just about anyone else couldn't. So, in conclusion I think Weiss is one of the strongest characters in RWBY.
Also here are some of my ideas of how cool but OP Weiss’s semblance can be.
Summon a Beowulf dual wielding great swords
Use water dust to recreate a dolphin uppercut paying homage to final fantasy
Have her use any kind of dust to make copies of her friends and make them move
Use wind and ice dust to mimic a voice box and copy others voices
Use time dilation at all
Use the “Moon shot” more as that was really cool
Have a sparring match with everyone else with no semblances being used as a rule
Use any other dust than just gravity, ice, fire and electric
Have Weiss cover the ground in ice and use her ice skating abilities to her advantage
Summon an army of small Grimm to crawl on her opponents to unnerve them
Summon a really big Grimm
Summon a small Grimm and recreate old kaiju movies like Godzilla
Use her summons as entertainment like a dinner and a show
Have a butler Beowulf that has a little bowtie
Have her kill steal new enemies so she can summon them later
Have her insist that she gets all final blows to be able summon it later
Go hunting with beowulfs and Atlesian knights
Have her crush a building by using gravity glyphs
Have her throw a building using gravity glyphs
Show Weiss sewing dust into her clothing
Show Weiss doing maintenance on Myrtenaster
Have Weiss be indignant about Myrtenaster being use a charger for everybody's scrolls
Have Weiss sleep with Myrtenaster right next to her on the bed like Ruby
With how rich Weiss is at the beginning of the story have her pay people to build robots and mechs with wild and wacky abilities and have her “fight” them so she can summon them
Have her ride her summons (beowulfs, griffons, nevermores, ect)
Have her summon all of her fluffiest summons and cuddle them
Have her summon her paladin and manually wreck shop in it
Use her summons as recon in stealth situations
Use a fire glyph and platform glyph to cook food
Have her cuddle a boarbatusk to sleep
Hold an enemy in place using a gravity glyph and drown them using a water glyph
Use two gravity glyphs to break an enemy’s bones or collapse their organs
Use a gravity glyph to hold an enemy in place
Use a gravity glyph to rip the weapon out of an enemy's hand
Use a gravity glyph to shoot their bullet right back at them
Have her use platform glyphs in every picture so she the tallest one
Have her freeze tree bark so she can fix her appearance
Have use a plant glyph (yes that is a dust type) to make flower crowns for her team
Have her use a plant glyph to make poison plants appear
Have her use a plant glyph to get healing herbs
Have a gag wear she walks away and makes a rock house using a rock glyph
Have her cover the ground in rock glyphs and have them shoot up to attack
Have her mix gravity and lightning dust to make a magnet and steal peoples silverware when they're not looking
Have her blow dry her hair with a wind glyph
What are some of your ideas? and why do you think Weiss got so shafted by the writing team.

The seven WITHOUT homelander
Vs
Team rwby.
Environment snowy cliff. Everybody is in character.
Who do YOU bet on
In any Seven vs another cape group match up, I tend to side by default with the non-seven group because the Seven are very pointedly from a universe where they have limited opportunity to accrue combat experience against other superhumans AND no real experience working alongside each other as a cohesive unit. RWBY (and the remnants of JNPR, who I sort of append as part and parcel) have good standing here because on top of their individual versatile semblances they've also got high-tier durability from their auras AND they're good at working together as a group.
Running through the seven to try and give them a fair shake;
Black Noir and Maeve: Dangerous combatants, he heals quickly and she might be able to one-shot someone's Aura. But they're both still vulnerable to massive trauma, and they have no real counter to intelligently-deployed AOE attacks, so any number of huntresses coordinating against them stand a decent chance. They might be able to kill Jaun if they're lucky; that'd probably leave them open to someone else nailing them, though.
A-Train: Hosed. His speed is as dangerous to himself as it is to anyone on Team RWBY; fighting seriously might just kill him. He might be able to Blitz Juan if he's lucky.
The Deep: No water he can exploit or sea life he can pull in that'll help; I don't think he's capable of closing the distance on most of RWBY. He might be able to kill Juan if he's lucky.
Translucent: My read on him is that while invisible, he's indestructible, and his "super strength" is really derived more from being made of an indestructible material than having super strength proper; Butcher was able to hold his own against him with just a crowbar for a little bit without Translucent having an immediate shutdown play. He's also massively vulnerable to electricity and he's opposed to Nora. He's likely hosed if he gets caught up in one of her charge-ups. He might be able to kill Jaun via ambush. If he's lucky.
Starlight: Actually not not a contender; her power charges up through exposure to light, she's up against dust users and Yang in particular, and she's one of the only AOE assets the group has sans Homelander. But a lot of her more impressive showings were enabled by the presence of modern infrastructure and this is a fight in the wilderness, so that's gonna be a point against her. She could probably kill Juan though.
Lamplighter: I think he's doomed; He's not even durable enough to be immune to the fire he manipulates, and was kept on the Seven I think basically because he was good at setting squishies on fire as an evidence-removal thing. I think his attacks would basically be just a feeder for Yang's semblance. I genuinely don't even think he could kill Juan.
Stormfront: Actually a contender. Strong, fast, smart, experienced, heavy hitter, AOE attacks, blaster attacks, flight. The deciding factor on this is gonna be whether Nora's power treats her power blasts as electricity, which I don't actually think they are; if so, RWBY wins, but otherwise it might be a bit of a struggle. She's end-of-volume boss material. She'd kill Juan
But ultimately I think that any power discrepancy gets washed out in the fact that the Seven are likely to not be paying attention to each other's movements, or even aware of what those movements look like because they simply never do teamfights; there's also the fact that they actively hate each other and might break ranks, hold back from the fight out of unsurety, attack each other while claiming friendly fire, or defect outright. You can't model the Seven as being more than the sum of their parts, or any combination of the sum of their parts; they get less effective around each other.

Nitpick November #4: Magic
The entire reason that RWBY had its tiresome "MAGIC IS REAL?" phase is because of a complete failure to separate magic from semblances or dust. Semblances, as we've had them told, are completely unique and are fueled by aura, but otherwise we have no limits whatsoever placed on them or what they can do. Pressed fans have ascribed it limits, such as saying that semblances can't let you shapeshift--but this is them trying to cover for RT, who never placed any such limitation and, in fact, most people assumed that turning into a bird was indeed Qrow's semblance at the end of Volume 3. Not only do we not have any idea what semblances can't do, but we've never been told what magic can do.
When we're shown via the maiden powers, it's extremely disappointing, because none of the maiden powers (fire, ice, electricity, wind...) constitutes anything you can't achieve with regular old dust. Even stuff like stormclouds and weather were generated by dust, as shown by Glynda in the very first episode of the show.
Tumblr media
We know shapeshifting is something magic can do, but we're not given any reason why Ozpin has strict enough control to assure only Raven and Qrow can do it, with the maiden powers by contrast just passing on randomly with zero control on Ozpin's part. Then, when we get a glimpse of what magic can do with Ozpin and Salem...
Tumblr media
Well, we don't. I have no idea what that attack was supposed to do. I mean, I guess it hurt? I gathered that it is an attack of some kind, but anything beyond that doesn't get shown or even told. Likewise, Salem's magic attacks have no clear designation and the only effects they seem to leave are pretty bad burns on Oscar. Hell, when Hazel fights her, he's got the upper hand just with dust.
Tumblr media
She eventually resorts to just beating his head against the ground, and it says something that that's her most effective attack of the entire fight.
If magic is such a big goddamn deal here, why won't you show it to us? Why won't you let us know why? At least give them something unique and impressive they can do to justify all this mystique and awe!
It just really bugs me that Salem is overtly using the most magic of any character and yet we have no clue what it's supposed to do. It's just "purple ball". That's not at all what I expect from something Ozpin has been this hush-hush about.

My Fav Characters in Hi-Fi Rush
Tumblr media
This is a take on some of my favorite characters (+ my OC) if they were in the brand new video game, Hi-Fi Rush. Please enjoy!
Detective Spice (Kate Morgan Jones) (My OC) (Because she's my favorite OCs out of the others I created from different fandoms)
Detective Spice Jones is a P.I who is on the hunt to arrest Zanzo, head of Vandelay Technologies' research and development department after getting an arrest warrant for his head. She then meets Chai and his friends and assist them in shutting down SPECTRA. Her weapon of choice is a giant scythe that also acts as a gun (kinda like Ruby Rose from RWBY) and she has a left robot hand that can transform into a grappling hook.
2. Scotch Whiskey (Groundskeeper Willie) (The Simpsons)
A janitor who got fired from Vandelay Technologies after he was wrongfully accused of sexual harassment on Mimosa of Marketing. Hailing from Scotland, he has powerful gauntlets that can smash anything in his way and has excellent strength, often getting compliments from Macaron. His robot implants are on his shoulders, giving him more balance to his physique. He then meets Detective Spice, who is helping a 'wee lad' name Chai, and joins in the quest to shut down SPECTRA since he never liked Kale.
3. Electric Lemonade or EL (Megavolt) (Darkwing Duck)
Spice's partner/boyfriend and an excellent inventor who dreams to work for Vandelay Technologies but was rejected by Kale, who sees them as 'mere trinkets'. He has a right robot arm that acts as a big taser and transform into a ray gun. He's also Zanzo's rival back in high school.
4. Diamond (Rarity) (MLP)
The former head of Marketing after she was replaced by Mimosa, Diamond now helps Chai and his friends with shutting down SPECTRA. Her robot implements are the same as Mimosa but her design is more on diamonds and she can project forcefields and diamond cut blades.
5. Whiskey (Osamu Dazai) (Bungou Stray Dogs)
Spice's other partner who has a passion of suicide, even though he often gets scolded by both Spice and EL. His robot implants are both his arms which can summon a white wire-like rope that looks like long bandages, which he uses them for either capturing enemies or 'grab and smash' them.
(What favorite characters would you like to be in Hi-Fi Rush?)

Born and raised on the island of Patch, and attended Signal. Leana has social yearnings but an introverted nature, preferring to hunt on her own rather than socialize conventionally.
Weapons
Taran-Nuada
Forms: Baton (storage), spear, rifle
Ammunition: Dust rounds
The silver arm of the king of storms. The gun component, optimized for lightning-dust rounds, is located in the butt end of the staff, allowing it to be fired in melee form and for the hooked spear blade to be used as a bayonet in rifle form.
Hyperborean Divide
Forms: Dual machine pistols, dual shot-batons, quarterstaff
Ammunition: Hard-light Dust
A complex weapon partly inspired by that of a certain Mistralian tournament champion. Internal mechanisms regulate rate of fire in proportion to the weapon’s current melee capacity, resulting in slower but more powerful shots as the weapon assumes larger forms.
Crimson Shadow
Forms: Chain dart
Ammunition: None
A black metal chain dart with curious Aura-conductive properties, uniquely suited to a certain Semblance. Also useful as a close-range melee weapon and for entangling opponents.
Vernal Call
Forms: Straight dagger
Ammunition: None
A black metal dagger, identical to the blade of Crimson Shadow. Can be thrown once or used as a secondary weapon in melee.
Sunbreaker
Forms: Short sword, fangtian ji
Ammunition: None
An oddly shaped short sword that extends into a truly impressive polearm; however, it lacks ranged capability unless wielded in conjunction with a certain Semblance.
False Promise
Forms: Hilt (storage), short sword (jian)
Ammunition: Gravity Dust (Internal)
A single weapon optimized for use with an unusual Semblance and fighting style.
Sol Verdict
Forms: Single-edged greatsword with collapsible blade
Ammunition: Burn Dust explosive slugs
A massive sword with a small reverse-oriented grenade launcher built into the hilt and base. The long blade can fold down for easier use of the firearm.
Accuser & Defender
Forms: Dual shotgun-axes
Ammunition: Dust cartridges, Dust slugs
Twin weapons designed for brutal efficacy and simple maintenance.
Lunar Echo
Forms: Baton (storage), quarterstaff, compound bow
Ammunition: None
A simple, versatile weapon designed for use with its bearer’s Semblance, although not much help to anyone else who might attempt to wield it.
Semblances
Stormcaller
Rank: B
Damage Type: Electricity, Anti-Army
An affinity for the generation and manipulation of electricity from one’s Aura. Although it can be used directly, the strength of this Semblance lies in its versatility, allowing the user to augment their physical movement and attacks rather than being a purely destructive tool.
Prismatic Aegis
Rank: B+
Damage Type: Kinetic, Anti-Army (Self)
The ability to project palm-sized hexagonal crystals that can withstand significant damage. In their base manifestation, these panes appear in a dome around the user, although with practice they can be used to entrap an opponent or given velocity and used as projectiles, although this is more Aura-intensive.
Inverse Shadow
Rank: C
Damage Type: Ether, Anti-Unit (Self)/Anti-Unit
An assassin’s Semblance, given to a noble-hearted young woman. One aspect allows the user to step out of physical existence momentarily, appearing from the outside to “teleport,” although this is inaccurate from the user’s perspective. The other utilizes the same liminal perspective to drain the Aura of an antagonist who has been immobilized by appropriate means.
Dawnblade
Rank: A
Damage Type: Fire, Anti-Army
The power to generate flames through one’s weapon. Although somewhat restrictive in its means of use, this is a Semblance with almost unparalleled destructive capacity; it drains Aura very little when used efficiently, allowing for well-timed power attacks without inflicting rapid exhaustion.
Excelsior Solar: The full-scale, maximum-intensity form of attack this Semblance makes possible, unleashing a torrent of flames over a wide area that can destroy even powerful common-type Grimm.
Armamentarium
Rank: B
Damage Type: Kinetic, Anti-Unit
The power to project copies of any worn or carried object. These projections are given form by the user’s Aura but do not drain it continuously; however, a small amount of Aura is sacrificed as long as a given object remains in existence. The effects of Dust imbued into a copied object may also be utilized.
Luminosity
Rank: A
Damage Type: None, Anti-Unit (Self)
A Semblance that makes the user an unconquerable beacon, able to withstand any attack or strike through any defense for the moment that it persists, although the user will suffer Aura loss afterwards in proportion to the damage sustained.
Hearthstone
Rank: D
Damage Type: None, Anti-Unit
An item-creation ability that allows the user to link an object to a place of safety, creating an emergency teleportation key. The effect persists until used, but destroys the object on activation; additionally, the bound location must be one the user personally considers a refuge, although the effect will not wear off or alter if that location later ceases to be considered safe.
Soul Arrow
Rank: A++
Damage Type: Ether, Anti-Fortress
A power for creating ammunition from the strength of one’s soul. The more spiritual energy is put into a manifested projectile, the more powerful the attack will be; therefore, one can use a projectile weapon without concern for physical ammunition, but Aura will be depleted more quickly.
Resolution of the Falling Star - Celestial Catastrophe: The true ‘ultimate attack’ that can be achieved with the full strength of Soul Arrow, capable of slaying a dragon in a single shot. However, the amount of power required is equivalent to the user’s maximum supply of Aura.
