Rise Characterizations Pt. 7!!!!!!!

Well as per the poll I put up ages ago (uni caught up to me ah), here is all I've compiled on our favorite foot clan recruit.

Cassandra Jones

Language Habits:

Verbalizes her attacks, i.e. "knife throw"

Uses "Foot Clan" as a battle cry

Grunts a lot when she moves (very verbally reactive when fighting)

Punctuates her attacks with "hiya!"

Tendency to "Ha-ha!" when she's satisfied with an attack

Uses a lot of formal language, with rare instances of Japanese mixed in

Eloquent in her dramatism, think clinical words with dramatic intention "vanquish his soul to the depths of oblivion"

Calls both Foot Lt. and Foot Brute "Sensei"/"Senseis"

Personality:

Really, really intense. She's always at 110% energy.

A talented warrior. She's familiar with a lot of the weapons she's handed, and has stated she's been in the Foot Clan since she was young.

Violence-oriented. A lot of her dialogue and action is centered on crushing her foes, so she's motivated by the thrill of combat

Loyal to the core. No matter what cause she's gunning for, she's there until it succeeds. Even if it takes over her entire being.

Fanatic. One of the most loyal and well-versed Foot Clan members, despite only being a low-level recruit.

Holds a grudge. When Cass remembers a name she won't forget it. Mainly Jocelyn, who she laments her jealously upon often.

Ritualistic in place of efficiency. Cass always does things in the way she deems "right" or how she was taught they were done, even if it takes longer than usual, until she is shown a better way to do them.

Eager to prove herself. Cassandra is always looking for opportunities to prove herself, whether that be the Foot Clan by volunteering to go on every missions, or to the world by world domination via brownie sales.

Miscellaneous:

Prefers to be called "Casey" by her friends

Has been in training since she was seven

Carries kunai knives on her

Tends to prefer fighting with spears

As shown in posters in her room she enjoys hockey

Also her room is spartan clean and tidy

Later I'm planning on posting about the Foot Clan as a whole, which I will link back here later since I think it will be helpful to the background of her character!!!

-Her full name is Jocelyn Stormy Clawthorne! She prefers Josie for short.

-She’s biologically Raine & Camila’s child, she was born during the rebuilding the of the Isles (she would’ve been around 1 1/2 around the time of the epilogue)

-She was in the healing track during her time at Hexside & The University of Wild Magic. She now works as Hexside’s school nurse (she frequently has her nieces in her office due to how danger prone they are-)

-Know one honestly knows what her palisman is supposed to be. He’s just a lil guy. She drew how she wanted him to look when she was like 5 and just never changed her image of him when she finally got Hunter to carve him for her. (And who would Hunter be to deny his lil sis her goofy lil guy?)

-Frequently travels between the Human Realm and Demon Realm.

-Luz and her are extremely close, heaven knows they and their sibs took the dorkiest graduation photos when she graduated from Hexside.

-Loves her nieces with all her heart, usually is the one to get them out of the dumb situations they find themselves in.

-As baby of the family all five of her sibs are very protective of her.

-She’s highly noise sensitive and prefers quieter environments. Rabbowl helps to comfort her when she gets overwhelmed.

The daughter of Prince Aemon Targaryen and Lady Jocelyn Baratheon, Rhaenys II was a capable, spirited and proud woman. Simply said, she was bold. Her namesake was after the sister-wife of Aegon I, the Conqueror of the Seven Kingdoms, Rhaenys Targaryen.

Considered next in line for the Iron Throne when her father died, she was known as ‘The Queen Who Never Was.’ And when she was presented to her grandmother, Queen Alysanne, she had said that Rhaenys was “our queen to be.”

Aemon had been the Prince of Dragonstone, but when he died, King Jaehaerys named Aemon’s younger brother as heir, Baelon (Viserys & Daemon’s father). King Jaehaerys outlived the majority of his children, and was still alive after the death of Baelon. This is when he made the decision that Viserys was to rule, rather than Rhaenys II.

With the Targaryen blood running through her veins, Rhaenys was a true dragonrider. She bonded with Meleys the Red Queen, and the pair developed an incredibly deep relationship. It has been said that one was a part of the other.

Rhaenys was married to Lord Corlys Velaryon of Driftmark. On their wedding day, she was adamant that she wanted to arrive on Meleys, even after being denied, Rhaenys did so anyway.

She had two children with Corlys, Laena and Laenor Velaryon, who she absolutely adored. Motherhood seemed to click with Rhaenys, her love for her children was boundless. That same love was shown in her grandchildren, specifically Baela and Rhaena, Laena’s daughters with Daemon Targaryen. She had a fondness for Rhaenyra’s sons, Jace, Luke and Joffrey, but she knew that they were bastards (show-wise, in the books she would have had the same devotion.)

As you sit in your apartment, waiting for Sergio to come home from training, you can feel the tension building inside you. You've been arguing a lot lately, and it's starting to take a toll on your relationship. Sergio has been so stressed with his soccer training and his business ventures that he's been snapping at you more than usual.

When he finally comes home, you can tell he's in a bad mood. He's quiet as he takes off his shoes and walks into the living room.

"What's wrong?" you ask, your voice gentle.

"Nothing," he says shortly.

You can feel your frustration building. You know something is bothering him, and you want to help, but he won't talk to you. This is how it has been going for some weeks now.

"Please, Sergio," you say, trying to keep your voice calm. "I can tell something's wrong. Talk to me."

He sighs and runs a hand through his hair. "It's just everything," he says finally. "I'm so overwhelmed with training and trying to manage my business. I feel like I can't keep up with everything."

"I know it's a lot," you say, reaching out to take his hand. "But you don't have to do it all alone. Is there anything I can do for you?..... I'm here for you. We're a team, remember?"

He looks at you, and for a moment, you think he might open up. But then his expression darkens.

"You don't understand," he says, his voice rising. "You don't know what it's like to have all this pressure on you all the time."

Your heart sinks as he lashes out at you. You know he's stressed, but you don't deserve to be treated this way.

"I understand more than you think," you say, your voice shaking with anger. "I may not be a futebol player, but I have my own stresses and pressures to deal with."

He looks at you, his eyes flashing. "Oh, really? What pressures do you have, Jocelyn?"

Hearing him mention the name of a different girl—specifically, his ex—makes your eyes expand and heart drop. With the media continuously comparing you to her, hearing him call you her name felt like a slap in the face.

"Wait Y/N I-I didnt mean to call you Jocelyn, it just accidentally slipped out!" he says quickly, his eyes widening. "It's just-," You leave the living room not wanting to hear his explanation. The damage has already been done. You can't believe he would call you another girl's name, and you can feel the hurt and anger boiling up inside you.

He watches you leave, his face filled with regret. "¡Por favor, no te vayas T/N! ¡Déjame explicarte!"(Please, don't go Y/N! Let me explain!)

Even if you wanted to, you can't listen to him right now. You need to get out of the apartment, to clear your head and figure out what to do next.

As you walk through the streets of Madrid, your mind is filled with conflicting emotions. Sergio has your love, but you can't let him treat you like this. Because of his attitude toward you for weeks, you already knew you were going to leave the house to get away from him at some point. His calling you the name of another female was the cherry on top. You need to stand up for yourself, to show him that you won't tolerate being treated with disrespect. A tiny sigh escapes your lips as you pull your phone from your pocket, deciding that it would be best to spend the next few nights at your best friend's house.

As your best friend answered the phone, you informed her of the situation. You didn't go into great depth, but you did say that you and Sergio had an argument and you needed a day or two to get your thoughts straight. Of course, she said you could come over and she would come get you immediately. Without even wanting to go back to your house to gather some things, you sent her the precise location of where you are right now.You decide to text Sergio even though you didn't want to, telling him that you'll be back in a few days. You then immediately mute the chat so you won't have to hear any notifications from him. Roughly 15 minutes later , your best friend arrives and drives you to her place.

As promised, you stayed at her home for three days while ignoring Sergio's calls and messages. Yet, as the days pass, you start to miss him. You think about all the good times you've shared, the moments of laughter and love. Although you two have been experiencing a rough patch, you don't want to throw everything away.

As the evening progresses, you are reminded that Sergio has a game tonight. While still harboring some resentment toward him as a result of what transpired between you two, you decide to go to his game because you miss him and want to show your support for him.

You know that he's been under a lot of pressure lately, and you shouldn't have let your own frustrations get in the way of being supportive.

~ Later that night ~

You make your way to your seat in the stadium, surrounded by excited fans all cheering for PSG. Your heart swells with pride as you see Sergio take his place on the field. He looks focused and determined, his eyes scanning the crowd until they lock with yours. He sends you a small smile and a nod, and you feel a sense of reassurance wash over you.

The match begins and you're completely absorbed in watching Sergio play. He's one of the best defenders in the world, and it's a thrill to see him in action. But as the match goes on, you start to notice that something seems off. He's not playing with his usual finesse and precision, and his movements are a bit slower than usual. Your heart sinks as you realize that he's not having his best game. You can see the frustration written all over his face, and it's clear that he's not in his best form. You start to worry about what this will mean for him, and for the team.

After the match ends, you wait for Sergio outside the locker room. When he emerges, you can see that he's exhausted and disappointed. He looks up and sees you waiting for him, and his expression softens.

"Hey," you say gently, reaching out to touch his arm. He does not respond, rather he wraps his arms around you and holds you tightly. You don't mind his sweaty body. You hold onto him tightly, not bothering to let go anytime soon.

Sergio lets out a deep sigh and removes himself from you after a few minutes. He opens his mouth to speak but you beat him to it, “Mi amor (my love) I'm so sorry for walking out on you like that…” You say sympathetically, as you have been thinking these past days and feel as if now you fully understand how difficult it must be for him to balance his personal and professional life. "I know you didn't mean to say her name nor be rude to me," you say softly. "I know you've been going through a lot lately."

Sergio looks at you with gratitude and affection. "You shouldnt be the one apologizing, my love, I should be. I've been not treating you the way you deserve to be treated these past few weeks and It took you to leave for me to realize my wrongs, " he says, taking your hand in his. "I should have been more honest with you about what's been going on. I'm just really stressed out with training and the business stuff, and it's been affecting me more than I realized."

You listen attentively as he explains everything that's been weighing on him, and you feel a deep sense of empathy for him. You know that it's not easy to juggle so many responsibilities, and that it takes a toll on even the strongest of people. "Is there anything I can do to help?" you ask, wanting to offer your support in any way you can. Sergio gives you a small smile and pulls you into a hug. "Just being here with me means everything," he whispers. "Thank you for understanding."

You both stand there for a few moments, wrapped in each other's arms, before you finally pull away. "Do you want to talk about it some more?" you ask, wanting to give him the chance to vent.

Sergio nods and you both find a quiet corner of the stadium to sit down and talk. As he shares his worries and frustrations with you, you listen with an open heart and offer words of comfort and encouragement.

By the end of your conversation, you can see the weight lifted off his shoulders. He's still stressed and overwhelmed, but knowing that he has your love and support makes all the difference.

As you make your way out of the stadium, hand in hand, you both feel a renewed sense of closeness and understanding. You nod your head, understanding. "I get it. But you can't keep it all bottled up, Sergio. It's not good for you, for us, or for anyone. You have to talk to me, or someone you trust, about what you're feeling. It's not a weakness to ask for help when you need it. It's the strongest thing you can do."

Sergio looks at you with a mixture of appreciation and sadness. "I know, and I'm sorry. I just...I don't know how to fix it. Everything seems to be piling up and I can't seem to catch a break."

You take his hand and give it a reassuring squeeze. "We'll figure it out together, okay? We'll take it one step at a time, and we'll get through it. But you have to promise me that you'll talk to me when you need to. I can't help you if I don't know what's going on."

Sergio nods, his eyes meeting yours. "I promise. I'll talk to you."

You smile, feeling a sense of relief wash over you. "Good. Now, let's go home and have a nice dinner together. We'll take a break from everything and just enjoy each other's company."

Once at your house, the rest of the night is spent cooking together, sharing stories, and just being present in each other's company. It's a small moment of peace in the midst of chaos, but it's exactly what you both needed.

As the night draws to a close, you cuddle up on the couch together, watching a movie and enjoying each other's warmth.

"I love you," Sergio whispers, his voice barely above a whisper.

"I love you too," you reply, pressing a kiss to his cheek. "And I'm here for you, no matter what."

Sergio pulls you closer, his arms wrapped tightly around you. "Thank you," he murmurs, his voice filled with gratitude.

You both drift off to sleep, wrapped in each other's arms, feeling a sense of peace and comfort that only comes from being with the person you love. And you know that, no matter what challenges lie ahead, you'll face them together.

What % Velaryon are the HotD characters?

Hi all I was curious about Driftmark inheritance (re: how much Velaryon blood Luke actually has even without being Laenor's son) and also wanted to point out that it doesn't make a lot of sense to make House Velaryon black but not any of the people from the main Targaryen family. I think most people understand that Jaehaerys (shown briefly in Episode 1) shouldn't have been a pasty lil white man since his mom was meant to be Velaryon, but because of Targaryen inbreeding he is far from the only one.

Plus, I'd already made a handy dandy table for the bloodline history of House Targaryen, and it was easy to make a few changes since Velaryons have only married into that family twice and also Excel did all the math for me. See the results below:

(A few notes on math I didn't show here: Valaena Velaryon is described as half Targaryen, which is why she's listed as 50%. Alyssa's mother is a Massey, so she's also listed as 50%.Jocelyn Baratheon is the daughter of Alyssa Velaryon, which is why she's listed as 25%.)

Anyways it's just funny to think that characters like Rhaenyra, Daemon, and Viserys are all technically around 1/3 Black. Like ahh yes these are my biracial kings/queens:

And listen, I understand that biracial kids can look white, okay. My dad is from India and I am a pasty lil motherfucker. But all of them??? And not Baela, Rhaena, Laena, Laenor, etc.???

Oh also re the Driftmark stuff: Luke is about 14% Velaryon through his mother. If he'd been Laenor's son, he'd have been about 47% Velaryon through both of his parents. But fun fact, as you can see, all of Alicent's children actually have more Velaryon blood than Rhaenyra's eldest three do.

I couldn't fully determine how closely Luke's related to Laenor, because we aren't given information about how closely either Valaena or Alyssa were related to the main Driftmark line that eventually gave rise to Corlys and then Laenor. Through Rhaenys, we do know that Luke and Laenor share the common ancestor of Alyssa, who is Luke's great-great-great grandmother and Laenor's great-grandmother.

If Rise ever gets a season 3 I really want to see more of Cassandra & get to know more about her backstory because the things that we are given make me really curious

Casey: You know, I was accepted into every clan I applied to

Casey: To become a full member of the Foot one must show commitment and patience, I have been in training since I was seven!

In the episode ‘How to Make Enemies and Bend People to Your Will’ Casey says she has been training with the Foot since she was seven but she also says that she was accepted into every clan she applied to.

It makes me wonder, how did she join the Foot? Was she applying for a bunch of Ninja clans when she was seven or has she been applying for other clans during her time with the Foot?

Casey: You know those Foot Clan guys, they never really treated me right, but we were doing cool stuff you know?

In the episode Always Be Brownies, Casey admits to Splinter that the Foot Clan ‘never really treated her right’ & we’ve seen evidence of this in the episode How to Make Enemies and Bend People to Your Will.

Casey: I can’t believe they promoted Jocelyn over me! I know her parents are big donors but come on!

Casey: We’re here to get coffee for the entire Foot Clan, and a vegan coconut scone for the boss

Casey: Lookout support duty? We’re the lookouts for the lookouts?

We’ve been shown that even though Casey shows constant loyalty & dedication to the Foot Clan they don’t really treat her with respect, she’s been training since she was seven & yet she still has to watch countless others be promoted before her & has been stuck running errands for years; making her be the one to get everyone coffee or assigning her as the lookout for the lookouts.

However even though the Foot Clan have never treated Casey with respect she still shows incredible respect & loyalty towards the Foot.

Casey: According to our laws, one can only take control of the Foot Clan by succeeding where the leaders have failed and my Sensei’s do not fail

Casey: I am loyal to the Foot! And Master Shredder!

The episode Always Be Brownies reveals that Casey knows that the Foot Clan don’t treat her right but she still holds such loyalty towards them, while the image of a seven year old Casey applying to multiple Ninja Clans is a funny one there’s also a possibility that whenever Casey got tired of how the Foot Clan treated her she would try applying to other Ninja Clans hoping she’d be treated with respect somewhere else.

But even though she was accepted into every place she applied to, she could never bring herself to leave the Foot Clan due to her loyalty to them.

Terrible Fic Idea #72: Game of Thrones, but make it Ptolemaic

There's something fascinating about the way the Ptolemys took over Egypt following the death of Alexander the Great - sure, anyone can conquer, but it takes an interesting mind to look around for ways to legitimate their rule and fall on sibling marriage as the solution. Yes, it was common among certain royal dynasties, but the Macedonian Greeks, from whom the Ptolemys descended, despised it. I would love a snapshot into how that first sibling marriage came to be.

It was this in mind I stumbled upon the idea for my next terrible fic idea: What if Jon and Robb were not of age with each other?

Aka: The Weirwood Queen Fic

Just imagine it:

Everything follows canon, with two exceptions: 1) Lyanna dies giving birth to a daughter at the Tower of Joy. Ned names the girl after their favorite Great-Aunt, Jocelyn; and 2) Catelyn loses the child she conceives on her wedding night.

(Robb is still born, but his birth date and the birth dates of all the other Stark children are pushed back two years.)

Now, it is one thing to return from war with a bastard when your wife has just given birth to a legitimate heir; it is quite another thing to return from war with a bastard after she miscarried. For this reason Ned choses to pass Jocelyn off as his brother Brandon's bastard daughter with Ashara Dayne.

Jocelyn's childhood is similar in many ways to canon, but not. Without her "twin" or any trueborn siblings to draw attention away, most of the castle dotes on young Jocelyn. Even once her cousins are born, Jocelyn remains the oldest of the lot, filled with the confidence that a child only has when they know they are loved. She loves her cousins in turn, but with the age gap they're never quite as close as canon, and she's more nursemaid for the younger ones than a playmate.

Catleyn, of course, loathes her, and begs for her to be sent away - which she eventually is. But instead of sending Jocelyn to the Silent Sisters, or across the sea, or marrying her off to a loyal man-at-arms stationed on the edge of Stark lands... Ned accepts widowed Rickard Karstark's offer for Jocelyn's hand. He's a loyal bannerman whose family has often wed Stark bastards and was notorious for his care and devotion to his first wife. It is the best Ned can do for her.

And so Jocelyn becomes the second Lady Karstark, which is awkward, as her stepsons are quite a bit older than her and her stepdaughter Alys is only six months younger, but Jocelyn thrives as a lady of a Northern House. Her husband is kind enough and largely allows her to run the house as she will, which is as best as she could have hoped for in a marriage.

By the time King Robert rides north two years later than canon, Jocelyn has given birth to a son, Brandon, and is pregnant with a daughter, Lyanna.

Canon continues apace, if somewhat delayed. Ned becomes hand of the king and loses his head. The North rises up, names Robb King in the North... and Rickard's sons Torrhen and Edward are killed by Jaime Lannister, for which Rickard kills two hostages. Robb still choses to execute Rickard Karstark.

Meanwhile, Jocelyn has been rallying forces to take Winterfell back from the Greyjoy's in the North. She succeeds, only to learn within the week that her cousin has made her a widow.

Jocelyn quietly rages. She'd never loved her husband, but she'd been fond of him. It's the hypocrisy that gets her most - because the Starks have always put family first, but she's known from the beginning that some family counts more than others, otherwise Ned would have never killed her uncle Arthur, or led her mother Ashara to throw herself off a tower, or allowed his son to think it fitting to kill her husband while they knew Jocelyn was preparing to take back his home for him.

And so what you have is Jocelyn continuing to rule Winterfell in her cousin's name but largely acting on her own, never outright ignoring Robb's commands while he's still alive but following the letter rather than the spirit of the order.

This continues for some time, with Jocelyn Queen of the North in all but name after the Red Wedding - holding off the Boltons and the Greyjoys - and gaining the respect of the North.

Into this enter Bran (as played by the Three-Eyed Raven) and baby Rickon.

After four or five years of playing Regent for Sansa, still held hostage in King's Landing, the last thing Jocelyn wants to do is give up power to her thirteen year of cousin who 1) spent the last five years beyond the Wall, letting her do all the hard work of ruling and 2) has no idea what the political situation is in the North. Most of the Northern lords feel similarly and insist Bran and Jocelyn wed, if only so Jocelyn can continue what she's been doing while Bran learns the ropes.

Jocelyn is even less happy about this, but goes along with it in name only, sleeping in a separate part of the castle.

This goes on for about two years, Bran making all sorts of subtle attempts to undermine Jocelyn's rule that - if they'd succeeded - would only have destabilized the North. Jocelyn is gearing up to have him declared addled by his trip beyond the Wall when she catches Bran - or, rather, the Three-Eyed Raven - trying to jump ship into Jocelyn's son seven-year-old son, Brandon Karstark, who with his Targaryen and Stark blood would make a better host.

Explaining to her bannermen just why she murdered her second husband is a challenge, but the evidence - that he was trying to kill her son - is rather irrefutable. Unfortunately, it leaves her in the same position as before, this time having to marry her her ten-year-old cousin Rickon to continue ruling the North.

Through all of this, it should be clear Jocelyn is doing this less out of desire for personal power - though there is a glimmer of that, especially when certain lords demand she give up her regency to man - then desire to stabilize the North. Ned and Robb had gone south, and it had nearly cost the North everything. All Jocelyn wants to do is keep the madness consuming the south from infecting the North too.

Meanwhile, Daenerys and Young Griff have joined forces in Essos, married, and begun their reconquest of Westeros. Amid the chaos, they succeed brilliantly.

They leave the North for last, attempt to replay the submission of Torrhen, but in a much weaker position than The Conqueror was - they have dragons, but winter is setting in and their martial might is largely exhausted by a decade of warfare. Regardless, Jocelyn tells Rickon to bend the knee, realizing the North can't survive on its own for long. For this they get many concessions - a break in taxes, the title of Prince of the North, and the betrothal of the Dany and Young Griff's son and daughter to Jocelyn's children Lyanna and Brandon Karstark respectively.

Jocelyn continues to rule the North, largely without the input of her third husband, who after his majority largely spends his time in Dany and Young Griff's ongoing military campaigns - putting down rebellions throughout their empire, pirates in the Stepstones, and the like - until he is killed crossing a river in Essos. The title of Prince of the North falls to Jocelyn's son, Brandon Karstark, who drops the Kar from his name and rules well - with the help of his mother.

Bonuses include: 1) Jocelyn never expressing anything other than familial fondness for any of her husbands, never sleeping with the second two, and largely being presented as an aromantic asexual who because of societal expectations forces herself to try to have romantic/sexual feelings for her first husband, fails, and then keeps her second two firmly in the baby cousins category; 2) An exploration of family dynamics in Westeros - specifically, what it means to be on the outside looking in as a bastard and knowing that your uncle and cousin don't seem to count the death of your mother, mother's brother, or husband as kinslaying, and being a woman allowed to hold the reins of power while the men are away and being expected to turn everything over to the first male claimant who shows up after you've done all the hard work; 3) The Three-Eyed Raven putting on a masterclass of how to be subtly creepy enough to cause everyone around him to think they're imagining things, when in reality it's worse than they imagined, and having been working even beyond the Wall to help bring about the Targaryen Restoration; 4) No one ever suspecting Jocelyn as being Rhaegar's daughter, and historians using the Valeryian looks her children have with their Targaryen spouses as proof Young Griff was really Prince Aegon; and 5) An exploration of the North, its traditions, and its religion, with Jocelyn somewhat inadvertently bringing about a revival of the last two through her desire to Damnatio Memoriae her late and unlamented Aunt Catelyn.
