“Slim and slight of frame, Alysanne was oft described as pretty but seldom as beautiful, though she was born of a house renowned for beauty. Her eyes were blue rather than purple, her hair a mass of honey-colored curls. No man ever questioned her wits.”

“Ambition is no crime. Lord Corlys has done well for himself, done so as a result of his own skill, his own determination; such things should be admired.”
Alysanne cups her granddaughter’s cheek with a wry smile on her face, thumb stroking over skin flushed with indignation. “So quick to his defence?”
Finally finishing off a sketch I’ve had on my iPad for over a year! A moment from chapter two of Ex libris featuring my favourite grandmother-granddaughter duo ❤️

Their first secret wedding was on 49 AC in Dragonstone. Jaehaerys was 15 years of age and Alysanne was just 13. The king decided not to consummate their marriage yet.

In 51 AC, they had a public wedding ceremony. By this time, the king is now 17 and the new queen is 15, and they consummated the marriage.

On...Targaryen (Valyrian) Hair Colors!
Tumblr media
Season 1 wigs were superior imo.
Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon have a habit of making all Targaryen hair look rather one-note, and in the same bleached platinum-blonde color. However the books offer a wide variety of descriptions which I plan on covering today.
Disclaimer: The pictures used are to show color, not texture. In the books there are several different textures, and in the show the Velaryons have afro-textured hair and locs. Not every example (or most) is going to be texture-accurate, this post is is purely about the different shades of hair color found in the family.
Silver-Gold
The most common hair color Valyrians are said to have is "silver-gold". Aegon I, Rhaenys, Visenya, Rhaena Targaryen (Aenys's daughter), Daenerys, Viserys and many others of Valyrian descent (as well as Hightowers) have been described with this color. Interestingly in the portraits GRRM commissioned years ago, their hair looked something like this:

The difference between the silver and the gold is stark (pun not intended.) However other depictions have been more blended to resemble something like this:
Source
That is personally how I first imagined Daenerys's hair in A Game of Thrones looking.
2. Silver-White
The Dragon Twins Baela and Rhaena Targaryen (Prince Daemon and Lady Laena Velaryon's twins) are described as having "silver-white" hair. Which can be interpreted as a very bright silver color with no hints of gold or blonde.

The wig department for HotD better take notes! This is what Rhaena's locs should've looked like.
3. White
King Aegon III Targaryen is described as having hair so pale it appeared white. White differs from silver due to silver having a gray base.

4. White Gold
Prince Aemon (son of King Jaehaerys I & Queen Alyssane) was said to have white gold hair, which was considered rare. White-gold can be interpreted as just a very pale blonde/gold color. You may think that white gold is silver-looking in color, but that is only because much of modern-day white gold has been plated with rhodium to reduce the pale yellow color. White gold that hasn't been plated is a (very pretty) pale gold color, which is what I'm assuming GRRM meant because I am fairly certain rhodium plating wasn't a thing during the medieval period.

5. Honey
Not all Targaryens are pale haired! [Best] Queen Alysanne's hair was said to be honey colored. It was believed that her hair came out this way due to her grandmother being Lady Alarra Massey, who was Andal not Valyrian.

6. Dirty-Blonde
Princess Alyssa Targaryen (daughter of King Jaehaerys I and Queen Alysanne) was said to have dirty-blonde hair without a trace of silver.

8. Brown
I'm including Prince Jacaerys Velaryon and his bros here, because while his parentage was disputed, and confirmed in the show, he's still a Targaryen on his mother's side and would have taken on the name Targaryen when he became king. Jace is said to have brown hair. No flowery language used to describe it by GRRM...just brown.

7. Black
Yes, there are black-haired Targaryens! Rhaenys Targaryen (daughter of Prince Aemon and Jocelyn Baratheon) had black hair, as did the children of Prince Rhaegar and Princess Elia Martell (sweet Princess Rhaenys and Prince Aegon.) Aegor Rivers, also known as "Bittersteel" (the son of King Aegon the Unworthy and Barbra Bracken) also had black hair.

Aside from Alicent who is your favorite Queen of Westeros? And who's your least favorite Queen of Westeros?
In my opinion Visenya was such a cool character she was ACTUALLy strong woman. I absolutely love her, she was so cool but i also think that queen Alysanne was really AMAZING queen
she was intelligent, beautiful, generous, beloved by people. She was a devoted wife and trusted counselor to her husband and without her Jaehaerys wouldn't be that good king.
HOT TAKE To be honest my least favourite queen was Rhaenyra and Cersei
I will talk about Rhaenyra in another post because that just deserves post on it's own

The daughter of Aethan Velaryon and Alarra Massey, Alyssa was a graceful yet outspoken woman who accepted her role as a woman but didn’t leave the power to the men.
It was said that she would openly jest at Maegor in court, and later on in her life she became Queen Regent - the ruler of the Seven Kingdoms until Jahaerys came of age.
Alyssa married her cousin, Prince Aenys Targaryen I, the son of Aegon the Conqurer and Rhaenys Targaryen. Although Alyssa and Aenys’ marriage was a political one, they proved to be fruitful. Together, they had six children: Rhaena, Aegon (known as The Uncrowned), Viserys (died at 14 by torture from Maegor), Jaehaerys, Alysanne, and Vaella Targaryen (died in the cradle).
After the death of Aenys, Visenya brought Maegor back from exile to rule. After her husband’s funeral, Alyssa fled to Driftmark with her three youngest children, Viserys, Jaehaerys, and Alysanne. There, she proclaimed her eldest son, Aegon, the true king of Westeros.
Dowager Queen Visenya eventually traveled to Driftmark and convinced Alyssa to return to court for the wedding between Maegor and Tyanna of the Tower. Alyssa, along with her children, were present for the ceremony. And Alyssa even took part in the bedding ceremony.
However, Alyssa’s presence brought forward rumours that she favoured Maegor over Aegon. That she abandoned her son’s cause.
When Visenya died, the chaos allowed an opportunity for Alyssa to escape with Jaehaerys, Alysanne as well as Dark Sister. Visenya's Valyrian steel sword, from the dead Dowager Queen's chambers. Although, Viserys was left behind, and in revenge Maegor tortured his nephew to death.
Viserys’ body was left in the Red Keep, in the hopes that Alyssa would return for the body. She did not.
After continuously on the move, Alyssa and her two youngest children landed in Storm’s End. Rogar Baratheon protected them, and he proclaimed Jaehaerys to be the true and lawful king of the Seven Kingdoms.
Suddenly, Maegor died and the circumstances remain mysterious even now. Nine days after his death, Jaehaerys came to King’s Landing on the back of Vermithor, and a few days after that Alyssa, along with Rogar and his army followed.
Alyssa was Queen Regent until Jahaerys turned sixteen. She married Rogar, who became Hand of the King and she gave him two children: a son and a daughter. However, she died during the second birth - the same way Aemma Arryn and so many other women died. Forced c-section, although they did not have a term for it.

“There was a girl there,” the queen said, “no older than I am as I sit before you now. A pretty girl, but not, I think, as pretty as she was. Her father was a blacksmith, and when she was a maid of fourteen years, he gave her hand in marriage to his apprentice. (...) But scarcely had they said their vows than their lord came down upon the wedding with his men-at-arms to claim his right to her first night. He carried her off to his tower and enjoyed her, and the next morning his men returned her to her husband. Her maidenhead was gone, together with whatever love the apprentice boy had borne her. He could not raise his hand against the lord for peril of his life, so instead he raised it against his wife. When it became plain that she was carrying the lord’s child, he beat it out of her. From that day on, he never called her anything but ‘whore,’ until finally the girl decided that if she must be called a whore she would live as one, and made her way to Mole’s Town. (...) I see no honor in any of this. I knew such things happened hundreds of years ago, I confess it, but I never dreamed that the custom endured so strongly to this day. Mayhaps I did not want to know. I closed my eyes, but that poor girl in Mole’s Town opened them. The right of the first night! Your Grace, my lords, it is time we put an end to this. I beg you. (...) The first night is an offense against the King’s Peace,” the queen concluded. “An offense against not only the maid, but her husband as well…and the wife of the lord, never forget. What do those highborn ladies do whilst their lords are out deflowering maidens? Do they sew? Sing? Pray? Were it me, I might pray my lord husband fell off his horse and broke his neck coming home.”
The Good Queen Alysanne, exercising her talent as Westeros' first feminist. This diva cornered a bunch of lords and the FUCKING King of the Seven Kingdoms himself and basically intimidated all of them to abolish the practice of the first night.
