Just imagine

The finale starts the very same way it did. Sam and Dean are happy and domestic and now have a dog.

They go to the pie festival where they start talking about everyone they have lost and everything they sacrificed.

They end up talking about Cas. Dean is avoiding that one final conversation.

They end up going into a hunt. There is no random season 1 vampire. After a really though fight one of the vamps stabs Dean before Sam finishes off.

Dean tries to start his “I’m dying” speech when lights start exploding. I don’t have to explain how this entrance goes.

The barn doors open and Castiel is there.

“Cas?”

“Hello Sam”

Cas starts explaining how he has been helping Jack fix heaven. He heals Dean without touching him or looking at him gay angel is mad but is not about to let Dean die like this. He turns around to leave.

“Cas wait”

Dean goes on about how he can’t just leave again.

“Look man. What you said. We were about to die and I couldn’t think”

He doesn’t confess his love right here, this man needs a while to acknowledge he has feelings but it is heavily implied.

“Just don’t leave again without letting me say something this time”

Castiel just looks at him and goes “Fine”

Cut to the long and happy epilogue montage.

They are all in the bunker, Sam comes out with a bag. Eileen is waiting in the stairs.

Sam and Dean are on a hunt. The monsters blow up. They turn around and Jack is there awkwardly saying hi.

Sam and Eileen do research together.

Dean and Cas go hunting together.

Sam proposes to Eileen. She says yes. Both on sign language.

All their living friends go to the wedding. Dean is the best man. Cas awkwardly marries them. Jack is the flower girl.

Dean Cas and the dog emerge from the impala and look onto a rebuilt Harvelle’s roadhouse only the road says Winchester’s roadhouse. They start setting up. It is Jack’s wedding present.

Eileen is clearly pregnant. She and Sam are decorating a nursery. You can see guarding signs in pastel tones and plushies with meta references.

Dean is running through a hospital, there is blood in his face. He arrives to a room to see Sam and Eileen with their new baby. The idiot ran all the way from a hunt to see his nephew.

Hunters come and go from the roadhouse. Same with Castiel between doing god stuff with Jack.

Jody and Donna go visit Sam and Eileen. The baby is wearing plaid (because what else).

Claire and Kaia are drinking with Dean. Castiel arrives. They have been getting more and more physically intimate every time we see them.

The whole family is celebrating Christmas. Jody, Donna and their girls are there. Same for Charlie and her gf. Bobby is playing with Sam Jr.

There is a knock at the door. It is Rowena bearing gifts. The queen of hell takes Christmas off to see her adopted children.

Dean is playing with a slightly older Sam Jr.

Next time we see him Castiel is at the roadhouse wearing Winchester plaid.

Sam is helping his kid with homework there are both textbooks and lore books on the table.

At some point the dog stops appearing.

A hunter is drinking coffee on Sam and Eileen’s living room while they look through some books. In the background you can see all the FBI cellphones.

Dean plays pool in the roadhouse with Cas by his side.

Sam and Dean visit Jody and Donna who are now retired together.

At some point they go to Donatello’s funeral. The camera goes up implying he went to heaven in the end.

Sam and Dean are bickering in the kitchen. Eileen laughs. Cas questions his life choices. Jack and a tween Sam Jr. are outside talking. Jack might be god but he is also the kid’s older brother.

Bobby’s funeral. Many hunters are there. Dean delivers a speech. Ends up saying he will see him someday.

Dean teaches teenage Sam Jr. how to drive in the impala. It goes as well as you can imagine.

They all have family lunch together.

Castiel heals Dean. Sexual tension has gone away. They are an actual old married couple now.

Sam Jr. graduates college the whole family is there to celebrate. You can see the tattoo in his arm.

This kid is having the best of both worlds plus a loving family.

Hunters arrive in a hurry to the roadhouse. We go into Dean and Cas’s bedroom. Sam is holding his hand. Cas is sitting on the other side with Jack standing beside him.

Now old man Dean gets to give his emotional speech. We all cry like we were supposed to.

After he dies surrounded by his family the camera turns. Cas and Jack are no longer there.

Dean arrives in heaven. He is still in his bedroom. Jack is there to welcome him.

Down on the heaven roadhouse all his loved ones are waiting for Dean.

Mary gives him the longest hug.

Same with original Bobby.

Everyone is there for the reunion. Jo, Ellen, original Charlie (who jokes about them getting another Charlie because they missed her so much), Kevin (In heaven as he deserves), Pamela, Adam, Benny (Somehow). John Winchester doesn’t deserve to be in here but if he is he is in the background.

Dean turns to the door and there is a silhouette in a trench coat.

He runs towards Cas because its been a while since he could run like that.

Now we get the kiss. It is as beautiful and tender as we imagined. And deserved.

Everyone leaves them be. Jack has been updating them on Destiel for the past 30 odd years.

Back on earth we get old man Sam (a believable old man Sam) mourning his brother on the Impala.

Dean and Cas go on a ride in the impala.

Sam dies with his kid by his side. It is implied Eileen passed away at some point. After he is gone Jack puts a hand on Sam Jr’s shoulder reassuring him their dad is happy and went to reunite with both his brother and the love of his life.

Dean parks the Impala. He and Cas get off the car. Castiel stays behind. Dean goes to the bridge railing.

“Hey Sammy”

They embrace. Castiel is there with them. Everyone is happy.

— yn is stuck in an unrequited love with tobio that has rooted since middle school. after moving overseas with her family, she comes back to japan and ended up having a one night stand with him, but he later reveals that he already has a girlfriend that he cheated on with her. yn ends up pregnant with his child, he breaks up with his gf but yn is still plagued with the guilt of having to ruin their relationship. the series ends with yn’s miscarriage and her leaving tobio for good, but he searched for her again after 2 years and asked her to restart/get married.

— yn has suffered amnesia due to a car accident and loses all memories of oikawa who moved to argentina for a few years. he comes back to find out that yn is now dating iwaizumi, and keeps up with the act of never having met yn before. however, over the course of his reappearance in yn’s life, she slowly regains her memories of him and decided to continue where they left off. unfortunately, a happy ending was far fetched because yn dies in the end. a depressed oikawa had to continue his life as a widower for a few years, until he decided to commit suicide and be with her again.

underground fight club.

— yn is an intelligence agent who is working undercover together with swat officer kageyama to infiltrate the fight club where a suspect dealing with an illicit gun selling is hiding. her initial suspect is iwaizumi, who is notorious in the fight club for being an undefeated fighter. she is caught in the middle choosing between her forbidden relationship with iwaizumi and her job as an intel agent, later forced to pick her career over a betrayed iwaizumi who had been aware all along that she was faking her identity. in the end, iwaizumi got temporarily detained and had to suffer with his trauma from the cops, but realized that yn was genuinely in love with him despite being undercover. they managed to fall back into each other’s arms, promising a new life ahead of them with no more secrets and lies in between.

wastelands.

— in a zombie infested world, five young adults go through a dangerous journey of finding a safe home. yn has been in love with suna since high school and has found herself in a beneficial relationship with him amidst the stress and lack of human contact that the apocalypse has caused. this all takes a turn when suna’s girlfriend, who was initially thought to be dead, is actually alive and has immediately reclaimed their relationship. devastated with her loneliness, yn has decided to travel alone in search for her brother, unaware that a distraught suna has followed her after realizing sophia’s deceitful personality. eventually, the two find each other again and admitted their desire to never leave one another. they also reunited with the group as they head to their final destination, but everything didn’t go as planned when suna got infected and died while saving yn.

dimitri's nightmares often caused him to wake in the dead of night, jolting up in a cold sweat after memories of the tragedy of duscur stabbed his heart again. whenever he dreamt of the fiery remains of his loved ones and the carnage of it all, it felt as if his ribcage was being torn open and his throat was closing up. everything felt all too real.

his one solace in the night was his beloved's dorm down the hall. when dimitri was tormented with nightmares, all he had to do was knock and he'd be enveloped in her arms. when she sang him to sleep, stroking his hair and peppering kisses on his tearstained face, it felt easier to breathe. it wasn't unbearable anymore, all thanks to her. all thanks to y/n.

she never made it back to the class reunion.

her disappearance was another wound left to fester on top of a million scars from his past, another life needlessly cast away to the abyss all because of the empire. he never spoke about you but everyone knew that he longed for you, that he was suffocating without you. on the outside he was a redeemed leader eager to save his kingdom, but on the inside... he was still the trembling teenager that yearned to lay with you and hear that everything was going to be okay from your lips. you were nothing but a memory now, and dimitri couldn't handle that.

thunder clapped over the garreg mach monastery, the kingdom army sleeping tight after a long and gruelling battle. dimitri took refuge in the fact there were zero casualties and everyone was safe in their beds, but that wasn't enough to lull him to sleep. his thoughts were still lingering on you, how you'd be faring if you were still alive. he wondered if you'd still love the monster he saw when he looked in the mirror.

"sir," a guard's voice broke the silence and dimitri snapped around, visibly agitated that his mourning was interrupted. "we found a young girl sneaking around the monastery, claiming she was looking for a dimitri. we have reason to believe she's an assassin. would you care to interrogate her?"

"wouldn't i love to deal with her," dimitri's entire aura darkened and he motioned for the guard to lead the way. while he was in a much better state of mind, he would show zero mercy to a petty assassin who tried to kill his friends in their sleep. he hadn't even seen them and he already lusted for their blood.

the guard lead him to an empty dormitory, previously belonging to a black eagles student, where the girl lay restrained. through the doorway, he could hear her singing.

it couldn't be.

"rid of the monsters inside your head, put all your thoughts to bed," she sang in the most beautiful voice he had ever heard. it was scratchy and clearly strained, but he'd recognize that voice anywhere. the voice of the girl who always sang during stressful situations. the songstress who stole his heart many years ago.

it was you.

there was no way in the most fiery pits of hell that you would ever side against the kingdom. this had to be a mistake.

he burst open in the door and your singing abruptly stopped - no, y/n, i want to hear you sing, please don't stop, i need to hear you - as you shrieked.

it was you.

it was you, it was you, it was you.

beaten, scarred, burnt, aged, starving, but you. you. you.

"dimitri... the empire, they... i just escaped..." the shackles on your ankles... they had imprisoned you. you were bordering on the edge of consciousness.

dimitri fell to his knees the moment he laid eyes upon you. he thought you were dead, he thought you were a traitor, but you were alive. you were breathing, right in front of him, you were with him. and you were going to be with him forever.

you sat up and stretched your hand out to cup his cheek. he leaned into your touch, his cheeks soaking wet from the tears that didn't hesitate to fall. you had once again saved him from a nightmare. you were finally home.

"my beloved... please, sing for me," his voice hitched in his throat, and you nodded. with tears streaming down your cheeks, you nodded again and again. you took one last breath before fainting in front of your future husband.

"you can be king again..."

Summary: You and Harry are officially together (ish) but war can get in the way, though it can’t stop your happy ending

I may have gotten carried away again, and I also may have added a few tweaks on the storyline because I believe in second chances and people being alive :)

Part I: And He Loved You Back

after you went back to school for the rest of 6th year, you and harry were back on your bullshit

joking around and being together

but in the happiness of the moment

you never really discussed

what

exactly

you

were

so you were in that weird gray area of bf/gf or just flirting???

everyone thought you were just getting over an argument because this is how you always were with each other

then

after a spectacular quidditch win

right in the middle of the common room party

you kissed

every

single

person

watched

but it wasn’t like it was an important kiss, you’d been stealing kisses here and there since your night on the couch so it wasn’t anything big

though little colin

(who wasn’t very young anymore)

snapped a quick picture

he gave copies to you both that morning in the common room

yours was put in your pocket every day, no matter where you went

it was your favorite picture ever

the year remained pretty neutral

until

dumbledore died

you, ron, hermione, and others that were in dumbledore’s army were trying to fight off death eaters with the order of phoenix

it was terrifying

you were cornered by a wild woman with even wilder hair

she looked deranged and it wasn’t until she was standing over you with a wand pointed to your face that you realized

that was bellatrix lestrange

you knew she was at the department of mysteries with you all

but you never tried to remember her face

neville blasted her off you

you almost cried in relief

you hugged neville really tight when the hallway cleared out

he was so awkward but it was ok

then you sprinted off to find harry

he was crying over dumbledore’s body

you’d never been emotionally close to the headmaster

so his death wasn’t too life-altering to you

i mean nobody was safe anymore

but you didn’t feel like you were losing a friend

you were dragging harry away from him

when he saw snape

who he chased after

and got knocked down

multiple times

then bellatrix decided to make matters worse

and use the cruciatus curse

and we can’t have that now can we

so while she was being yelled at by snape for trying to get harry

you shot your own little curse at the mad woman

and you

sort of

kind of

maybe

used the cruciatus curse right back at her

oopsie

her screams of agony were what brought the other death eaters to turn around

and even though you were the one to cast the spell

you were the most shocked that you did it

your anger at her for hurting harry had controlled your feelings

you didn’t even know you knew how to do the spell

you just did it

and then one by one the death eaters started disapparating

and one whispered into snapes ear before disapparating himself

and snape strolled up to you and harry

you were defensively standing in front of harry, who was still in a great deal of pain

snape grabbed your arm tightly and disapparated

with you

harry screamed your name

but you weren’t there to hear it

you were being dragged into voldy’s headquarters

the malfoy manor

you were sick of those dumbass blond boys

utterly sick of them

you were oh so kindly greeted by a variety of death eaters, including, but not limited to:

snape

bellatrix

big malfoy

little malfoy

a man you assumed to be fenrir greyback

two other scary looking men you’d seen on wanted posters a time or two

and

the man of the year

old voldy toes

your wand was taken out of your hand with more aggression than necessary

and you were trying to stand up with the best posture you could muster

but you hadn’t eaten breakfast that morning and had gone through a lot in the past two hours

so it was a bit hard to maintain confidence

and consciousness

when you were being swarmed by scary adults

and you just got the ability to use magic outside of school

it just didn’t seem fair

but you didn’t have much time to dwell on it when there was a creepy, snakelike voice

“go on, bella”

then a high pitched giggle was heard before the world went fuzzy

you felt like there were a million pins sticking into every pore on your body

and you heard screaming

it sounded distant

but it was you

you were writhing on the floor screaming louder than gryffindors after a quidditch match win

after the third round of her torture,

you were laying on your back

clutching your head

trying to bang it on the floor

as if that would stop the pain

bellatrix stopped after because what was the point in torture if they died before it began?

so you were aggressively carried/thrown down to the cellar

it was dirty and gross and was barely lit

but you didn’t regain consciousness long enough to really survey the room

and that’s where you stayed for the next few days

you could barely stand the first day

your head was bleeding and your muscles felt more worn out then ever

blinking seemed like too hard a task

your vision still felt fuzzy

after the third day, you could move all your fingers individually at will again

which was more of an accomplishment than you would think

and then you realized

there was an odd bulge in your jean pocket

it was a crumpled piece of paper

but not just any paper

it was a picture

an amazingly wonderful picture

the wonderful gryffindor common room in all its glory

and right in the center

drawing the most attention

was you and harry

sharing your first public kiss

and you wondered if he was looking at the picture too

you wondered if he was looking for you

a part of you didn’t want him to find you because you didn’t want him to be subject to the same torture you had

and you cried quietly that night

you couldn’t stop

you were slumped against a dirty cement wall, tired and hungry and thirsty and you couldn’t stop crying

apparently your sobs were louder than you thought

because you could hear the stomping of someone’s feet on the stairs

you tried to stop crying and tried to hide the photo back in your pocket before the person got to the creepy door/gate thing

but you were still sniffling and you couldn’t get the photo back in your pocket while sitting down

and when you saw the platinum blond hair outside the gate, you tried to shove it into your pocket faster

he opened the door quietly and made eye contact with you before slowly walking towards you

you looked back down, not wanting to look him in the eye

until you saw a shiny, green apple to your left

slowly, you looked up and saw draco handing you an apple, pity in his eyes

you took it cautiously and he turned and walked away, back to the entrance

he looked over his shoulder once again

you were staring at him, eyebrows scrunched together

he mouthed two words before locking the door and going back upstairs

“i’m sorry”

the days went on

every once and a while, when bella was feeling particularly aggravated or thought you looked a bit too happy, she would torture you a bit

the day when she found the photo in your pocket was the worst

she craved the word “mudblood” into your arm

so now you had a werewolf scar and umbridge’s “i must respect my superriors” on your left arm and the messy carving of “mudblood” on your right

it went on for almost seven months before you finally gained a bit of hope

you were with the company of luna lovegood, ollivander, and a particularly crabby goblin

but one day, when you expected the same routine of one of you guys being pulled from the dungeon to be questioned or tortured

(though those were basically the same thing)

you heard bellatrix’s cackling before anything else

then some yelling

then a name

harry potter

your heart twisted in both longing and regret

he was here, but at what cost?

there was no telling how this would play out

voldy has been trying to kill him since he was born but harry had a knack for getting out of sticky situations

meanwhile, upstairs, harry was on his knees, ron and hermione were being held back, and draco was more conflicted then he ever had been

he knew it was harry

it was more obvious than the fact that he, himself had platinum blond hair

but he got flickers and memories every time he blinked

he saw the way you would clutch onto your picture when he would bring you an apple or a small piece of chicken from dinner

how sad you looked when you were writhing on his living room floor while being tortured

how, after christmas break during sixth year, you both looked absolutely unbothered by any upcoming war or disaster when you were in one another’s company

so he stalled

he knew that granger was smart

he knew that ron and harry had a strange way of getting out of trouble

so he waited for any of them to make a move

to do something so he wouldn’t have to

but the distraction came from the snatchers, though it did buy some time regardless

and as harry and ron were struggling to resist against being pushed down the stairs, draco felt a small pinch on his heart as he knew that harry and you would be reunited

you were laying against the wall, tired but not sleeping

sleeping during the day was like insulting bellatrix right to her face, and sleeping at night was almost as terrifying

but suddenly, you didn’t feel so tired anymore

because you saw it

the bright red hair that could only belong to a weasley

and with the mention of potter you heard echo through the house

it could only mean one thing

so the second the door was shut and nobody was left on the stairs, you stood up as quick as you could, not that it was very fast with the lack of food and sleep you’d had

but the sound of your footsteps caused harry--

who, no offense to him, looked hideously deformed--

to turn around

and he swears to this day that he could have cried in that very moment at the sight of your thinning body wobbling towards his, tears in your eyes, and arms reached out to him as he ran faster than when he was being chased by snatchers, just to hold you tight as possible in his arms

the sweet moment, however, was interrupted by hermione’s screaming, pulling a pitiful whisper of “no” from your lips

ron was banging on the gate and screaming for hermione, so was harry, but he was also switching between looking up the stairs and staring at you

it took a while, and a little help from dobby, but you all got out of the cellar and were in a kind of battle with the death eaters upstairs

you were barely able to do anything, given your wand was in the possession of one of the death eaters since you’d been there, and there was no way you were any good at wandless magic

but nothing seemed to hit you

and then you realized

while everyone was fighting each other

without the other knowing, both harry and draco had been taking turns sending defensive spells to whoever targeted you

hermione was in bellatrix’s grasp and there was a squeaking sound before dobby had released the chandelier, and you had sprinted to hermione to push her away

you both barely made it out from under the broken chandelier, and your legs were on fire from using them so vigorously after barely standing for the past few months

but you were all safe, and dobby had gotten you, hermione, harry, and ron into a cluster to disapparate, when two things were thrown at you before you could get away

a knife, thrown by bellatrix, was lodged into dobby’s stomach when you got away, sadly killing the sweet house elf

the second object, a wand, your wand, was laying on the sand beside you all

draco had had your wand and thrown it to you before you escaped

that night was rough

you were helping hermione, because you knew that the pain didn’t really go away after the spell stopped,

it lingered and it didn’t feel like you were in your own body

you also made light of the carving that now graced both of your arms, yours was more healed over, of course, but the discoloration and raised skin still stuck out like a sore thumb

hermione fell asleep quickly that night, the mental and physical exhaustion and having a comfy bed again mixed and she was out like a light

you, however, were in the living room with harry, each of you talking about how your past seven months had been without the other

you sat with your back pressed into harry’s chest as he ran his fingers along your arms and shoulders

you were freshly showered for the first time in a while and you were in one of bill’s classic weasley sweaters and fleur’s sweatpants and fluffy socks and couldn't have been anymore comfy than you were in that moment

harry held you tighter when you talked about bellatrix

he loosened his grip when you talked about luna and ollivander

he felt a pang in his heart when he heard that you had looked at the picture frequently, just as he had done while with hermione and ron

he wasn’t sure how to feel when you talked about how kind draco was, how he was genuinely scared

he didn’t like draco but he was also glad that he had given you food and a bit of company or hope while you were stuck there

he felt happier than ever when you had fallen asleep in his arms, steady breathing lulling him to sleep as well

you weren’t allowed to go to the ministry with them, because you were still too malnourished and bill, who was more like his mother than he cared to admit, outright refused to let you do anything but eat homemade soup and lay on the couch with a book

you were grateful for his kindness but also anxious to know how harry was

you’d felt good as new after a day, thanks to fleur, who was really extremely talented at healing potions

the order was called to hogwarts to aid harry, and of course you weren’t technically part of the order, but you were good as

so as you all made your dramatic entrance, harry had a gleam of pride in his eyes as he looked at you, standing tall and with a dangerous glare that made him feel lucky you were fighting on the same side

the fighting began before you could realize

you had gone with fred, george, and percy to the courtyards, protecting any younger students who were still there or anyone else on their side

while fighting, you and george had taken one end of the courtyard and percy and fred had taken the other end

you had a twisting feeling erupt in your stomach, not the one that was there before, but now it was worry for something about to happen

and that’s when you saw the wall start to collapse right over fred and percy

“aresto momentum!”

the words came before you even realized, and the bricks were hovering over fred and percy as they ran towards you and george, then the bricks fell as you took your wand away

you felt more relieved than ever, until everything died down a bit and you made your way back to the great hall and saw the true destruction

you saw professor lupin and his wife, tonks

you saw poor colin creevy who, albeit being a little annoying, had a soft spot in your heart after he gave you your favorite picture

you saw lavender brown, who annoyed the living hell out of you, but never deserved to die

you grabbed harry’s hand when he came into the hall, scared he would all of a sudden drop dead too

and when harry said he was actually going to meet voldemort in the woods, you were going to be the reason he dropped dead

but you couldn’t truly stop him because it was his choice, so you told him everything

“i love you, and i know you know that, but it’s important that you go into this knowing that everyone here isn’t getting hurt because of you, they’re getting hurt because the cause is important, and you may not believe it, but everyone here cares about you. i care about you and i can’t lose you, too, h. please be cautious and safe and, if you can help it, don’t leave me.”

“marry me.”

“excuse me?”

“when i get back, marry me. that’s how i want the rest of my life to go, so marry me and we can live in a small house, or a big house if you want, and we can have a family-- or not, whatever you want-- but i want to be with you forever, so when i get back, let’s get married”

“of course, when you get back, i will marry you, harry”

“i love you”

“i love you as well”

so harry set off with a light ignited in his heart as he walked to what would surely be his last breath

and it wasn’t until students and order members were standing around the courtyard watching as voldemort and his army were walking with hagrid, who was carrying something

that something turned out to be a dead harry potter

you were standing in the crowd between with the twins to your left and draco malfoy to your right

your heart broke and you decided that nothing would feel as dreadful as this moment

as voldemort was making his official speech as if it would encourage everyone who had just been fighting him that they wanted to do a full 180, a certain long-haired blond began calling over draco

draco looked close to tears as you inched closer and closer to him

his dad was begging him to come across the courtyard to the death eater side and draco took a single step forward before you grabbed his elbow

he hadn’t been paying attention to anything but his father and the stares of the students

your grasp on his arm startled him

you raised your eyebrows at him as if saying “this is your choice, not his”

and that was all he needed

draco needed someone to see the good in him, to tell him that there were people who cared for him beyond whatever use he may serve as a weapon or soldier

he needed a real friend

he needed you

and so he didn’t move

and neville made his grand speech

and harry potter lept out of hagrid’s arms

and the war commenced, ending quite sooner than anyone had thought

once their leader was dead, the death eaters seemed to realize it was a losing battle

so the order and the students were all rallied in the great hall, the hallways, and sparsely in the courtyards

narcissa, who seemed to be the only one dressed in black robes at the castle, was looking for her son when she ran into you

“i’m sorry dear-” she apologised as she ran into you

“you’re fine,” you stopped when you realize who it was “draco is in the great hall, had a scratch or something so he’s getting checked”

“thank you” she hugged you as tight as she could, and you could feel the tears on your neck as she held you close “i’m so sorry and i couldn’t be happier that you stopped him from coming over, i couldn’t bare-- i don’t want him to be hurt--”

“i understand, mrs. malfoy”

“narcissa”

“ok, well he’s probably waiting for you, so,”

“oh, yes, well thank you darling,”

“it was no big deal. everyone deserves a second chance,”

you had made your way to harry, who was standing with the weasleys, and you kissed him like you had never done before

it was almost better than your first and almost as magical as the one in the common room

“so…” harry blushed

“so… i guess we’re getting married!”

you embraced once more, holding onto each other for dear life

it was barely two months after the war when harry finally told you about remus and tonks making him the godfather of their son, edward remus, and that he’d been staying with tonk’s mom, andromeda

harry wanted to make the young boy’s life better than his own

not that he had any doubt of adromeda being an amazing mother, but she had already raised a child, and didn’t need to start over again

you both relieved andromeda of her duties and kept young teddy with you full time

neither of you were too eager to get a job just yet, as harry could do basically anything he wanted, and you, while not being the best student or anything, were insured a job at weasley’s wizard wheezes once you felt like it

you both got married in the fall, outside the burrow

you wore a simple, lacy gown, and harry wore a simple set of dress robes

everyone wore casual clothes, as it was a very, very small wedding, including only the weasley family, ron, hermione, a few other gryffindors from school, and the malfoys

just draco and narcissa

who had only showed at the reception, as they didn’t want to intrude, even though they were invited

it was a little tense

but everyone knew that draco was on their side from the little thing at the battle of hogwarts

you and harry were happier than ever

you had two more kids besides teddy, who you loved like your own son

(and how that boy ended up being exactly like remus without ever truly meeting him, you both will never know)

your other children, twins, were james sirius and lily minerva

of course you don't name them after a teacher who bullied his students and a headmaster who didn’t do what was best for anybody

who would do that?

it’s just stupid???

ron and hermione had rose and hugo and lived close to the burrow

fred had never married, claiming that he was built to be the fun uncle to every niece and nephew

which he did flawlessly

a little recklessly...

but that was good ‘ol uncle fred

george and angelina had two children, fred and roxanne

the entire weasley family believes that george named his son fred just to cause a little more chaos during holidays

luna and ginny had gotten together about six years after the battle, living together for three of them, and molly wondered how she didn’t figure it out sooner

neville, along with harry, worked at hogwarts teaching

neville taught herbology and became gryffindor’s head of house after mcgonagall had decided that being both transfiguration and head of house was too stressful

harry took up the post of dada professor, in which he taught with remus in mind

you had gone on to work with fred and george in the joke shop when you could, along with working on products at home when you had to watch the kids

you still kept in close touch with draco malfoy, who had married a girl in the year below you, astoria, and had a son, scorpius

you made sure to meet up as often as possible, especially since your children were close in age

draco had become the potions professor at hogwarts, and was actually a favorite to most students, given he was an amazingly intelligent man and held kindness and compassion to the younger kids, making sure they all knew they had choices on who they were in life

you would visit the castle frequently once your kids all got out of the house

while you still had fred and george at work and the others to talk to sometimes, it got lonely in the big house that was usually filled with noise

you would go to the castle and sit in a student’s desk while mcgonagall taught, waiting for her to notice you

which she did, every time, as it seemed age never brought her personality down a bit

you would chat with neville and draco on their breaks, and you always went down to see hagrid when you were there, enjoying his big, bad, teddy bear persona

and you loved to watch harry teach, because he was so in his element that it made you feel a deep-rooted sense of happiness just being around him

and you made sure to come around every year, around the week before christmas break started, and you and harry would share stories of the war with the sixth and seventh years who were curious

but your favorite part of the trips to hogwarts was embarrassing your children, just as god intended

you would wave to and sit with teddy at the hufflepuff table and share stories that made his face turn as pink as his hair

you would go up to the twins, who had both been sorted into gryffindor, and pinch their cheeks and somehow mention the fact that you had baby pictures of them in the bath together

life was peaceful now

you still had the scars from your teenage years

and harry still had his lightning bolt scar on his forehead

but he was never mentioned as “harry potter: the boy who lived” anymore

he was now “cool professor potter”

and, occasionally, if a student was annoyed, they would call him “y/n l/n’s husband or whatever” (a nickname started by teddy lupin himself)

their life was small, and filled with gory details, but they wouldn’t change it for the world

Caryl and comic Carl & Sophia theory

So there’s been a theory that Caryl are like comic Carl and Sophia for awhile. I tried to find a post that was the first time it made me think of it, but I can’t find it. I think it was back in s10A and someone was arguing that Caryl are not like comic R & M but more like comic Carl & Sophia (Carlphia). I had made some parallel posts about it in my blog. It would be interesting if the writers are now trying to adapt Carlphia and comic Lydia in the 10C and s11.

I hope I can explain this well and accurate. :P

First, there’s similarities with Caryl and Carlphia. Both ships are like life-long friends and kinda have this subtle slowburn love relationship going on since the start. Oh, they both are actually the last two surviving Atlanta members of TWD. (Comic MIchonne-prison, tv Michonne left). There’s also a thing with one of the Peletier girls living till the end or dying early on. Also, for awhile, I see Leah and it keeps reminding me of another L name in the show, Lydia. So, maybe it’s meant to be connected to comic Lydia. (Name thingies lol. Idk yet what Leah is like in s10c and s11 though.)

*I’ll explain comic Carl and Sophia story, if I remember. And some parallels ..including with Leah if she’s like comic Lydia.

Carlphia were a couple for awhile when they’re young kids (kinda would make someone to ship them from the start/kinda like a main ship), but mostly were good friends that grew up together. They grew apart I guess when Maggie moved to Hilltop after Glenn died. Eventually, it’s when Carl wanted to be independent and be a blacksmith apprentice(?) in Hilltop. It’s there when teens Carl and Sophia started to be friends again. And also when Whisperer War arc begins and that’s when teen Carl mostly falls in love with Lydia. His first real girlfriend/love I would say. I don’t remember much and comic Sophia wasn’t really featured in the comics a lot. I think during and after the Whisperer war, Carl and Sophia were doing usual teen things, and helping out communities and family. Carl was more independent and mature (compared to Sabastian) so Sophia would listen to him on some things. Like love and stuff. Sophia would be jealous that Carl would know what to do in life, and have a gf Lydia. Sometimes its like she’s jealous that’s she’s alone, or jealous and misses her friend Carl who was always with Lydia. I think Robert Kirkman did have some hints of a love triangle going on but we didn’t really see it much. (It’s like a most recent love triangle in the story) And then uh I think it’s mostly that Carl and Lydia were shown to be good relationship and Lydia support Carl to being a good young man/leader. Carl and Sophia were good friends too. Then during the Commonwealth arc, an issue before, Carl’s dad died. And then the 20 years time jump on the last long issue (chapter or episode.), we see adult Carl who’s married with Sophia and they have a daughter named Andrea. We see how Carl interacts with Sophia and Lydia. There’s a page of Carl and Lydia that explains kinda why he chose to be with Sophia instead of Lydia. Basically it’s like a trope that Lydia is from the past and was when life was about survival and death. When he’s with Sophia it’s like he’s about living and for the future. So, somewhere in those 20 years, he grew to wanting to live life and making a better world then into the ZA. So, in a way it’s a subtle parallel.

So if Caryl and Leah are to be like comic Carlphia and Lydia, then I can see some parallels. It would be really interesting to see that on the show and sweet because Caryl would be endgame. But, I’m not sure how this theory would play out. The show now since s9 became so different from the comics and the comics ended what would be very different for the show. We don’t have the same main characters now as the comics did. The show is ending with s11..but is it really the end of TWD story when Rick movies will continue(if everyone will be there too)? We’re gonna be into the Commonwealth arc, post Whisperer War, Negan redemption & Maggie arc, and different plots. Also the show sometimes do comic arcs a bit out of order.

So sdlfjlsajf????? It’s hard to speculate the show now with the comics now. I don’t know how TWD show would end really. To end with Judith...there’s that 20 years time jump to see people in ZA living life like normal in modern times in, in the New World. But, there are other plots not done. Like Rick’s story and Michonne looking for him, and Caryl in their spinoff show. It’s all hard to speculate.

Anyway, Idk how this Carlphia and Lydia theory would work. I guess the writers could not adapt some things like the last two issues or really alternate it in the show. Yeah it’s hard to speculate and also s11 is a long season probably like 4 arcs they will do. So that’s a lot of guessing.

Another thing that’s hard is that the writers would put for an example comic Rick plots onto tv Aaron and then later different plot for Daryl. The writers would change characters to adapt comic plots in a season. So, Daryl is using some comic Rick plots and comic Carl’s because it’s usually for the main storyline and Daryl is leading in the show. (Even Carol had some comic Rick plots but she mostly had comic Michonne’s in the past.) Anyway we have Aaron who has a missing arm and long beard like comic Rick, and he might be into political things. I think he might be killed in the end of the show like comic Rick.😢 Daryl might switch up again to be like comic Carl to whenever writers want to explore/remix a plot.

* So there, Daryl can be like comic Carl in s11 sometimes. We know Leah will be in s11 but Idk where is she from now. If she’s from Commonwealth, I would think she could be the Governor of Commonwealth, Pamela. I can see Daryl acting as comic Rick to Pamela and they can probably fight about the way of living their life in ZA while also being like comic Carl and Lydia. They could argue and maybe try to start their relationship again because of their past. They used to be a couple. During of this I could see Carol realizing her feelings and feel jealous of them like comic Sophia. Idk what else Carol could do in s11. She could probably be like comic Michonne or Magna to be opinionated on the whole politics of Commonwealth and help Daryl. And to end the season, Idk, they could have Judith feel like she’s safe in Commonwealth, or ASZ is at peace with other communities and let Caryl go travel together. Or, Rick and/or Michonne reunite with their kids and warn about CRM community (Rick movie). Somewhere in s11B, Daryl realizes he doesn’t want to be with Leah. It’s always been Carol for him. And then Caryl became canon/endgame and left ASZ to travel. I think that’s what would be like comic Carlphia and Lydia theory. @carylmeanslove here's a post with my speculations

my thoughts on the lorien legacies reborn series [spoilers]

i think it sucked

i loved most of the characters to bits and they all deserved better (in terms of characterisation, plot)

nigel. oh my god nigel i love him so much

ran takeda deserved SO MUCH BETTER im still mad

the way they hinted at a whole bunch of romances but only made the one i dont give a shit about canon

i really really hate white girl taylor cook

yes, having a white american girl as the main character IS diversity :))))))

isabela is cool as shit and i wish i was her

i love their fleshed out backstories but i wish i couldve heard more

THERE WAS LITERALLY NO DEVELOPMENT IN MOST OF THEM (personally i think the series was cut short bc they all had so much more room to grow)

(it gave off percy jackson movies energy)

it hurts me how the writing hinted that nigel would get his heroic moment but he literally never did

and then nigel was left with what? his only best friend dead, his parents corrupt assholes and him still not having healed from his trauma- still the underdog

ALSO: NIGEL WAS THE ONLY CANONICALLY GAY CHARACTER (except for maybe daunphen but still that doesnt really count bc its only implied) but they just like. didnt give him a love interest.

nic was literally right there- that homoerotic moment really hit me and i just read it over and over

ran’s death was really well done but also COMPLETELY PREVENTABLE

if isabela had just told einar to stfu and shoot lucas it wouldve all been over and ran and five would still be alive

speaking of which, ran and five were a super cute couple/friendship i cant tell but i like their dynamic a lot

five saying that he “actually likes” ran is essentially a confession of love in his terms

caleb. i liked him. but he was so boring and straight. i think his development wouldve been great if they just DID SOMETHING WITH HIM

also idk whether to ship isabela with caleb or daunphen but personally i like to think of daunphen as trixic which is unrelated

caleb literally. had potential. troubled home life. not as bad as the others but he never really stopped being an uptight little bitch

if he had, i think he wouldve been great

TPN Vol 8 - Chapters 66-70 Thoughts

[we're already on vol 9 but I'm slow with compiling]

I know I always rag on the "cop out" deaths and it is true that no corpse no dead, and I am curious if there will be any more worldbuilding regarding Lucas' survival (hello deus ex machina person) but uh. Idk. I'm sure it has a point and it makes sense in universe (having him be the reason for the knowledge among GP kids is good) but it just feels a little. Eh. Like it feels like paddling back on a small part of geezers guilt and feelings. In part it also feels like a "reward" for choosing the heroes moral side and going to help save Emma (why ever that happened - ig bc Gilda would blow up the shelter if he doesn't so. YAY).

...

Obviously the development is still his, and he obviously isn't expecting to find anyone alive there, but ig i felt like he was leading up to... healing more through the kids and not one epic Emma speech and "oh your one friend is alive btw" reveal later on. It feels like a spark of hope and happiness for him that I'm not sure if was needed narratively. He already decided he wouldn't harm them.

Like maybe they handle it very differently so i might be jumping the gun here but idk. It just feels a little... weird to me. Probably in a similar way how speeches about Norman hurt but also kind of get that "well uh about that...." Air once you know. I feel for the characters and their separation but it doesn't have the same weight it could have anymore.

In theory it reminds me a bit of the whole gate reveal structure in s2. With a setup being built up or established and a reveal just going "nvm that's not what we're doing".

It makes sense, I'm just not a huge fan of what it does for me for previously established things.

But i guess writing wise it puts its cards on the table with small scale Lucas and then Norman haha.

I find it rly funny how much the arc sort of mirrors the s2 arc so far (character assumed dead is alive, new cast of demon kill children introduced, a plan to kill demons).

Ig that might be intentional, for all intents it's a good method of conveying character change. Or different specifics or how things might be judged differently with different specifics (like hunting for enjoyment vs. farming)

I'm totally jumping in on this too early but idk it's interesting to think about.

That and also our whole "There's someone I want you to meet" - "ITS NORMAN" jokes made me think, like you could probably ACTUALLY restructure some of this in a way that would allow Norman's return here instead lol. Could be a fun AU, esp since we have the seeds of a (small-scale) demon annihilation plan anyway.

I also just find it funny to think about Norman grumbling from his future self that Emma agreed to some random guy's plan so easily udkhjsd

Obviously the time is a bit of a mess -- it's only been 3 months? is Adam out bc Norman's escaped already or was Adam just shipped to GP? if he already escaped, our boy is quick - plus, why would he go to GP. the supporters in Lambda probably know it's been compromised, so aside from freeing the children, there isn't a lot of reason to go there and while that may have priority, I feel like 3 months is a bit of a short timeframe for Norman to settle in there well enough -- so it's more wonky than anything BUT IT'S FUN TO THINK ABOUT.

btw I find it so funny how Emma has that whole "intent to kill" thing going on now, considering her later moral stance - like it's fair but coming from s2 it's a bit of whiplash haha especially since she's so determined about it right from the start. (though I have no idea if she ever addressed killing demons before this, memory bad)

Though notably she said "she wants to shut down the hunting ground too", not "want to kill them too" - and it's good that she draws a line but IDK IT'S JUST INTERESTING because what bothers her is the toying / no respect for their lives, right? - "this kind of hunt", not hunting in general.

... so like, if you were hunted by a demon in the wild, who didn't toy with you, just killed and ate you, that would be fine then? Idk, it's a very fine line and I get it, but it's interesting to think about. A quick, suffer-less death is of course a valid thing to want if you will die anyway, but you're dead afterwards in both variants.

Of course maybe I'm reading it wrong and it's just her sort of realizing that between mass production farms and GP, they really did have it good, even if they died an early death, and how this is much more hate-worthy than GF's method. Which is true, I suppose, and might expand on the building blocks of her moral development down the line (as in "there's different stages of demon-badness").

Also a more funny thought but imagine if Lucas DID have the pen, would... Geezer-senpai just not find the way back? And even if he did would he even get into the bunker? That'd be one tragic ending pff. Tell the person to run away and they can't even go back inside sudhdjd

Also i thought about it and isn't it weird that none of the books or materials mentioned what goldy pond actually is? Like youd expect sth that important to be in there.

We know WM wasn't at the bunker in the last 13 years and we know that the books he supplied to GF, the newest one was 2015. What if he was discovered or had to limit his WM activity 30 years ago?

So 30 years ago, he still sent people to goldy pond.

I'm just realizing.... That totally sounds like a setup for minerva to actually be on the demons side or a demon himself sjdhjddj. Like he orchestrates escapees (who are likely to be smart) and then sends them to GP where he and his noble friends can hunt them.

But where i was actually going with this uh, what if GP 30 years ago (potentially longer depending on how long ago he was there last) wasn't actually a hunting a ground? Why would you send kids there without a warning otherwise? What if it WAS a small human community (tho that would likely have been passed around by the inhabitants) or it was at least WM supporter base like the bunker, intended for humans to live there. Not sure about mansion then but YKNOW.

If it was, i wonder if it being discovered was a huge part in WM cover being blown OR if the demons decided to keep it secret bc you know this place is rly convinient haha

I also wonder how wm even finds and builds all these underground things lol. Bc it can't have existed since before the world split i think?

Man has some big construction projects running pfff.

I'm also not sure how that underground thing works-

So either Leuvis took it off but i wouldn't know why, and just dropped it on the ground for geezer to come pick up ORRRR he took one off for some reason?? maybe he threw it at the demon pff something is very un-continous here and i need answers-

the duality of man... not wanting people to know a) your age and b) your name (which you may have forgotten, who knows)

History3: MODC review I guess?

Word Count: around 2,080

Warning: Potential Spoiler for POSE Season 2. I’m not sure if it’s been streaming globally yet, but I mention the death of a character.

I fell in love with the BL drama HIStory this past August. It was after coming across a video on twitter of two men embracing, kissing and both breaking down in tears on the floor of a lavish, minimalistic, bedroom. After a bit of digging in the replies, I learned the name of the show, History3: Trapped. One google later, I’m on VIKI and I find the entire first half-season which had just wrapped up two months prior. The rest of that month was spent binging it and the first 2 seasons (and The Untamed). This week the second half of the beloved drama’s third season which has been hailed the best BL drama of 2019, possibly all-time, ended with a thud on the 18th. Prior to this week it had a solid score of 9.5 on MyDramaLive where it now sits at 8.5. (Rating seems to be falling slightly every 2-3 days, now sits at 8.4.) This season’s love story focused on the story between Yu Xi Gu, an orphan, loner, and presumptive valedictorian of Zenren High and Xiang Hao Ting, the carefree Mr. popular of the school. The show also follows a side couple, HaoTing’s best friend Sun Bo Xiang and Xi Gu’s boss, Lu Zhi Gang. This season focused on the blossoming of these two couples’ relationships in such a way that most of us thought “Oh wow they’re going for full on happy go lucky in love” and while they met challenges like HaoTing’s homophobic parents and entrance exams they managed to fight for each other with their relationship getting stronger every time. That was until this week’s finale when we were served with a plate of Deadly Distant Finale with a side of Bury Your Gays and a glass Gay for You.

I initially thought that I was okay with the finale in a similar way to how I was with the finale of HIStory3: Trapped. That was bittersweet yet common sense. Shao Fei was a cop, Tang Yi a mob boss who shot an officer, he “had” to go to jail. Yet the more I thought about it I felt grieved, insulted rather by MODCs finale. So, like everyone else is doing on social media, I’m going to nitpick the hell out of it as part of my “healing process.” Also, while all of us are upset, unfortunately as in the summer, some fans are attacking the cast and crew. In the words of the master heart crusher, Shonda Rhimes, “Don’t tweet them your crazy,” or...whatever the weibo equivalent is. So, before the nitpicking, a caveat. My beef is with the lazy writing of episode 10, this entire cast was outstanding from Wayne and ChuanChih to the ZENREN homies to The Xiang Family just outstanding. Possibly the best History ensemble since H2:Crossing The Line. Thankfully, this season was not written the same writer of H3: Trapped that would have been way too much for me. (Although, word in the fandom is that MODCs screenwriter wasn’t fond of Trapped’s screenwriter, or rather her treatment for the finale? Alexa, Play Ironic by Alanis Morrisette.) Also in this review, I’m going to be using the VIKI episode count when referring to episodes so just 1-9. *wink*

On to the picking apart, if you watched all of episode 9 last week, you probably had the same horrified realization as I that our first intimate moment in episode 2 where HT saves XG from getting run over by a moped was foreshadowing for the finale. I don’t want to dissuade anyone from watching the series again, I will, but with the ending we got? It’s going to be difficult to revisit that scene again without resentment. It’s bad enough that XiGu, the main character up to this point, dies off screen in a way that nearly renders him worthless. Especially in the way that this story said “meet this soft, pitiful, malnourished and overworked boy; fall in love with him as he allows himself to fall in love and watch as that love makes him bloom.” I haven’t been this upset over a needless character death since, well, I can’t even say that I have made peace with Candy’s death in season 2 of POSE and that was 5 months ago.

I don’t know why the writer chose this ending that says “fighting tooth and nail for love is meaningless, yet the memories make it worthwhile?” I’m being petty, we know for HaoTing this love was not meaningless, XiGu’s death is not meaningless. If XiGu’s death was meaningless he wouldn’t have thrown himself into his undergrad studies and gotten into Stanford grad to continue XiGu’s dre…hold the hell on. Wait a damn minute, isn’t that…the dead love interest trope? So, in the POV of this finale, XiGu’s existence was to get HaoTing to mature and become a physicist? Remember, high school HaoTing didn’t really have a dream outside of being with XG 24/7. He became a better student and chose to become a Physics major solely to be with XG. During the show, this particular plot point had some fans noting, while sweet in theory, pinning your hopes and dreams on teenage love can be costly in real life.

Six years on, it seems the only people that have been affected by XiGu’s death are HaoTing and Lin Cai Chu, his ex-girlfriend? I understand in real life we tend to be moved on after this much time. Yet, there was no mention of Xi Gu from the crew or the family, even when he was visibly upset around them. You could count Mrs. Xiang when she spoke to Hao Ting while he was packing, but she never names him, only implies, and, I feel we had to dive for that meaning. Also, there was no significant interaction from Sun Bo or his sister Yong Ching, who were the closest with HT during this whole relationship. Yong Ching listens to her brother cry after their father tears XiGu and HaoTing apart and she plays messenger between them during their parting. However, in episode 10 she’s enamored with Phoebe’s style? Sun Bo is HaoTing’s brother in the battle for love they share everything about how their hearts feel about their guys. But when HT drunkenly pours out his grief after six years, and he kinda gives a “damn bro, that sucks” vibe for a good part of the talk? (Sidenote: Wayne acted his whole ass off in this episode, do you hear me?) In Trapped, ShaoFei knew everything about TangYi. When Chen Wen Hao and Sister Lizhen were revealed as TangYi’s parents he grieves with and comforts him back at home. (Bonus: if you watch that scene again you can see Jake break down with Chris when they pull apart.)

I’m not touching that damn doppleganger moment, why even do it? These decisions have been made, yet the way both XiGu’s death and HaoTing’s potential girlfriend Phoebe are hinted and implied at, yet never really engaged with or seen. Which, to me, signals fear on part of the writer. These are the decisions you felt comfortable making so why not go ahead and give it to us full out. Show us XiGu dying in HaoTing’s arms, HaoTing visiting his grave a la Trapped episode 10, or show us the moment when Phoebe meets the family. We could have gotten more thought or effort put into these plot twists on the part of the writer. We see the way HaoTing weeps over XiGu and how he just shrugs off the mention of Phoebe from his family. XiGu and HaoTing lined and called each other daily, Phoebe can’t even email to let him know where she is? Worse yet, HaoTing does not even attempt checking up on her? Is on a 13-hour flight or about to get on one? Don’t really know, damn sure don’t care.

I “got” that he doesn’t think the love of his life can ever be replaced, but we also know through his actions that he doesn’t love her either. Even though he’s introducing her to his family, I ask, does he even like her? Where’d they meet? How old is she? Why bring her up if you aren’t going to flesh the concept of Phoebe out? If you really wanted to give a love story closure “well” you should have done all of this several episodes ago by breaking them up or even condensing the love story and killing XG earlier on rather than handing us this death/new gf cocktail in ONE EPISODE. So many HIStorians thought that the boys would split because of HaoTing lying about the rent, and this makes perfect sense as it’s a clear violation of XiGu’s desire to be as self-reliant as possible, even in a relationship. That could have given rise to the first big argument and potential breakup.

At first, I thought that the most insulting thing about this finale was that we didn’t get a happy ever after, or at least a happy for now like Trapped. Happy endings are an unofficial mission statement of the series. However, the most insulting thing about this finale, for me, was that death became final. Three years in a series, where death has NEVER been final, or even an option for its leads at least since season 1. (Which HIStorians like, but don’t really talk about for good reason.) Now, you could argue about Trapped because Shao Fei does get shot twice and if any storyline was primed for death it was theirs. However, even with the action element, the Brooklyn Nine-Nine type comedy never gave it the gravity that MODC unknowingly had. We were presented the stakes, the murders of Old Tang/LiZhen, and knew the threat, Chen WenHao. In MODC, there was a quiet unease I had for most of my watch along the lines of, “this is perfect. I love it, but it’s too perfect.” The “challenges” XG/HT faced they pretty much steamrolled every time so I assumed they were in the clear until the last 5 minutes of episode 9.

H1: My Hero and H1: Obsessed both had plots that dealt with the boundary of death, making it impermanent “because love.” While we’re at it, let’s talk about Obsessed shall we. Even abusive ass, stalker ass Jiang Jing Teng, a man who by logic and common sense shouldn’t have, got a chance to love again. He got to say goodbye to, spread the ashes of, and reunite with Shao Yi Chen. After his beard, who it just so happened was also a witch/sorceress, brought back SYC from the dead, not once BUT TWICE?!? (First, from rebirth. Second, it was all a dream.) Yet YXG/SHT, the most loved couple since CTL, can’t get a similar twist of fate? Make it make sense, especially given that this is likely the final season for HIStory.

That hurt to type, but, it looks like History3 is going to be the final season for the series. Since we haven’t had any official announcement from CHOCO. And with 2 major backlashes, the first based on misunderstanding with Trapped and the second due to MODC lazy finale, it’s looking like a done deal until the CTL movie comes out at the end of 2020. In which case, everyone involved is going to have to be on their very best behavior from now on. In the hearts of some HIStorians, this finale has done irreparable damage to MODC itself and the HIStory franchise. Which is sad, considering that up to this point HIStory was getting better and better with each season only to decimate that growth in one episode.

*cue Mariah* I still believe that MODC is the best BL drama of 2019. It’s the best to come out of Taiwan since CTL. Most of that is due to the phenomenal work of the cast, and… yes, the initial episodes written by our screenwriter. Even with my frustrations with the finale, I was conflicted as I said on Wednesday night. I was very disappointed, but the performances I did get, specifically from Wayne, kept me engaged to the point that I still enjoyed it. Does it make up for the cruelty to Yu Xi Gu not at all, but the previous 9 episodes pretty much put it in my top 5 all-time early on. What now? I’m waiting for the dvd drop next year and reliving every blissful moment. Oh, and I’m rewatching episodes 5/6 for Christmas.

If you made it this far, thank you HIStorians, you all have made this surprise journey most certainly worth it.

PS: word from Mandarin speaking fans is that the novelization of this series has 2 endings. One happy and the one we saw on Wednesday which…*sigh* at least there’s a universe where the boys are happy. Get to know My OC-Suzie Q

Get to know my character

Doing this for My OC Suzanna, of The Walking Dead.

01. What does your character’s name mean? Did you pick it for the symbolism, or did you just like the way it sounded? I picked Suzanna (spelled with a z because I thought it looked cool) because I liked that Negan would call her Suzie Q.

02. What is one of your character’s biggest insecurities? Are they able to hide it easily or can others easily exploit this weakness? Sex lbr,Sue isn’t above being seduced,or doing the seducing either. But only around Merle,Negan or The Governor,who can easily get her to do what they want and they know this.

03. Something they like about themselves? Her Strength and resilience.

04. What are their favorite traits about their lover? (one psychological and one physical) I’ll start with her first boyfriend Merle Dixon,who she had been with since before the turn.

Mentally: Would have to be Merle’s humor (crude or not),how he flirts (with her anyway),his cockiness,How protective he is and how unpredictable.

Physically: I mean Merle may not be everyone’s cup of tea (or bottle of whisky) but with those baby blue eyes,that mischievous grin,those arms and that swagger,he sure is Sue’s. Oh did I forget to mention she has an older man kink? ;)

Next would be Suzanna’s other lover,who she met in Woodbury,of course I mean Philip Blake aka The Governor.

Mentally: Suzanna was attracted to his intelligence,his quiet confidence,leadership qualities and that mysterious aura he seemed to have around him.

Physically: That smile,those eyes,his body isn’t half bad either,but it’s his charm and darkness that really attracts her.

Now onto her current lover Negan,leader of The Saviors. How she met him is a tad more complicated...

Mentally: Suzie loves his confidence,humor,and leadership skills,as well as his growth as a person. To her Negan is almost like Merle and Philip rolled into one.

Physically: I mean Negan is hot,anyone can see that! Especially when he first showed up,those Daddy good looks coupled with that swagger and dangerous smirk. Yeah Suzie definitely fell for him,even when she tried not too.

05. Are they sexually confident or more of the shy type? Definitely Confident. Though she didn’t have much experience until she met Merle.

06. Do they have any hobbies that their lover finds unusual, odd, or otherwise annoying? lol it’s the zombie apocalypse,what hobbies? Sue’s men are pretty open to whatever she likes,especially Negan since she met him after the turn where pretty much anything goes.

07. Is there a catchphrase or sound that they tend to make a lot (likely without being aware of it)? No though she tends to steal some of Negan’s phrases like ‘Easy Peasy’

08. What is, perhaps, their biggest flaw? Are they aware of this or oblivious to it? Um the fact that she has no self control lol maybe because of the fact that she grew up in a religious household. Her weakness for the bad boys,or worse.

09. Do they have a favorite season? What about a favorite holiday? NOT Summer or Winter since they’ve almost died during both. Maybe Autumn or Spring. Holiday,what’s that? They don’t even know what YEAR it is now let alone day.

10. Is your character more feminine or masculine? A mixture of both.

11. What is something that would make your character fly into a rage? Well her bloodlust kinda kicked in after being with Negan,besides that probably being pushed by one of Negan’s Wives and having her loyalty questioned.

12. Is there some particular talent, skill, or attribute that they simply could not give up? Her Survival instincts & fighting skills,give those up and she might as well be Walker food.

13. What are your character’s sleeping habits? Heavy or light sleeper? Blanket stealer? One that always rolls onto the floor? Pushes their lover onto the floor? Sleep talker or walker? She’s a light sleeper anymore and has a hard time sleeping on her own.

14. Do they live alone or with family? How do they feel about their family/roommates? Suzie was adopted by Hershal as a young Teen,after the zombie apocalypse happened she got separated from her family and traveled with The Dixon’s where they found a camp,she got separated after reuniting with her family,where she met Michonne,they traveled together until Woodbury where she found Merle again. After that whole thing with The Governor and Rick’s group,Sue went into hiding,until she found out she was pregnant and went to find Rick,Daryl and the rest. They traveled together and finally settled in Alexandria,until The Saviors came and after much bloodshed and fighting,Sue joined them,becoming Negan’s wife.

15. Is there a certain person in this world that they cannot stand? The very mention of this person’s name makes them tremble with anger or fear. Not really,though her and Philip did not end on good terms and she really cannot stand Simon.

16. Is your character the athletic type or more of a couch potato? What are some sports/games that they like? lol Definitely more of The Athletic type now. She was super girly when Merle first met her.

17. Does your character have dreams of getting married and/or having children? Technically she is married to Negan and she has two children.

18. What kind of home would they want to live in? Where would they place this abode? She really doesn’t care as long as her family is with her.

19. Would your character be the kind to get into fights? (physical or verbal) Would they be a good fighter or cave in rather easily? She tended to avoid them as a Teen,letting her BFF take the lead,but now yeah she can be pretty hot headed and the only time she caves in is when it’s one of her men.

20. Does your character like animals? What are some of their favorite animals? Would they want pets? What about mythological creatures? Dogs all the way.

21. What is one of your character’s biggest fears? How would they react when dealing with this fear? Losing her children,like she lost her family and Merle.

22. What kind of tattoos, piercings, birthmarks, freckles, and other such unique physical features do they have? Other then her hair changing from Blonde to Brown constantly,no.

23. What is your character like when it comes to school? What subjects are they good/bad at? Do they get in trouble a lot or are well behaved? Sue didn’t really like school but her parents were strict so she had to maintain straight A’s.

24. In their own words, how would your character describe what their lover is like? Personality wise? Since she’s currently with Negan,I’ll just describe him. I’d say to the outside world he’s Smart,A leader,Dangerous,unpredictable,cocky and self assured. To Suzie (and later on when he loses everything) he still is all those things,especially when they first meet,but he’s more open with her,serious and has his morals,he won't hurt or kill children or those that he feels don’t deserve it and he doesn’t rape either,Negan also has deep rooted pain from losing his wife Lucille.

25. Is there something traumatic from your character’s past that greatly affects them even to this day? I would say losing Merle,Her Father and a sister in Beth still effects her a bit, Also almost dying at the hands of her former lover (Who also killed her Father and Merle)

26. What is their lover like sexually? How do they feel about their lover’s quirks, needs, etc? I made A-Z NSFW Headcanons for The Governor and Merle already,I might make one for Negan as well,but their are already really good ones of him out there!

27. If your character was going to get arrested, what would be the most likely reason for it? Well there really isn’t any law anymore but before the turn it would probably be for doing something stupid with Merle like underage drinking.

28. If your character became a celebrity, what would they be famous for? lol idk maybe acting.

29. What is one of the most courageous things your character has ever done for a loved one? Almost sacrificed her life.

30. When it comes to the arts (music, film, theater, etc), what does your character like? Not much in the way of tv now,but before she liked watching Zombie and B Horror movies,also going out to parties,and listening to her sister Beth sing,watching Wrestling with Daryl and his GF,her BFF,Carol Lynn,dressing up to go out with Merle,she still likes Decorating,Negan’s pretty much let her decorate there room however she likes.

31. Would your character be the kind capable of killing? Would they enjoy killing or only use it when necessary or, perhaps, refuse to kill no matter what? Yes she has,mainly Zombies but she has killed people before out of necessity and protection.

32. If your character’s lover offered to take them out on a dream date, what would they want to do? As long as she’s with them she doesn’t really care. Her first date with Merle was at a restaurant/Bar,then they went dancing at a club and then back to his place...With The Governor it was sharing drinks out in the garden,though if he had a choice Philip would have taken her out to a nice restaurant. Suzie didn’t really have a conventional first date with Negan but they have their quiet nights alone,candle lit dinners,kinky sex ;) Negan also spoils her with presents every time they go out.

33. If your character wanted to be alone, where would they go? Her Room...lol seriously though,what alone time? Though sometimes her and the other wives hang out in Eugene’s room,playing video games and drinking if they need an escape.

34. Does your character have favorite foods? (breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, snacks, etc) Breakfast Foods mainly.

35. Is your character afraid of death? If they got to choose how to die, how would they want to go? Not much anymore,though she is afraid of leaving her kids behind.

36. Does your character have any medical conditions? Are they serious or minor? Do they affect their day to day life? No

37. What are some of your character’s pet peeves? What are some things that annoy them or disgust them? Being hit on,especially when she’s taken. Her men flirting with someone else.

38. What kind of weather does your character like? Cloudy skies, rainy days, sunshine, etc? As long as it’s not an extreme weather,she really doesn’t care.

39. When people look at your character, is there some assumption they might make about them just by appearance? Is that assumption correct? Well as Negan said when they first met “You are such a badass!” and he’s not wrong. Others may think she’s easily manipulated and maybe she is,at first.

40. Does your OC have any guilty pleasures they enjoy? Hobbies, past times, music, etc that they wouldn’t want known by others? Not really,she did try and hide her kinkier side with The Governor but Negan pretty much has done away with being ashamed of anything and told her they don’t need to hide that in The Sanctuary.

41. Does your character’s family affect your character in any way? They used to.

42. Is there anything in your character’s past that they regret, haunts them, or they wish they could change? Sometimes she regrets meeting The Governor or siding with Negan over Alexandria but Suzie wouldn’t really change it.

43. Does your character have a switch that changes aspects of their personality whether they are around friends, family, etc. Is there someone who gets to see their true self? I think different people see different aspects of her personality and vice versa.

44. Is there a particular event that would emotionally devastate your character? Her Children or Negan dying.

45. Is your character the kind to hide their true emotions or do they wear their heart on their sleeve? A bit of both.

46. What is some random affectionate thing that your character always does to their lover? With Merle,Sue always sat on his lap if he was sitting on a chair or recliner. She does that with Negan too,with The Governor she always kissed his bad eye,if he was having a bad day,just to show him that she still loved him no matter what he looked like..

47. Is your character outgoing? Would they be the leader of the friend group, or the quiet one that gets dragged along? Sue used to be shyer but now she’s definitely more outgoing and a leader.

48. Is there anything in particular that would ignite your character’s jealousy? Or does your character not get envious? Again her men flirting with someone else,especially Merle. Negan favoriting another wife over her.

49. What is something that your character has nightmares about? Are these frequent? Do they heavily affect your character’s mood? She used to have nightmares about finding Merle as a Zombie or of The Governor killing her but they have since dissipated.

50. If your character confessed love to their crush, boyfriend, girlfriend, etc, what would they say? With Merle it was after their first time and Merle said it first,he was super nervous about it and Sue had to reassure him that she loved him too.

With Philip it was to reassure him that she wasn’t going anywhere,after he lost his eye and turned dark.

With Negan it was during a particularly rare moment of confindment after he told her about Lucille,he didn’t say it back until a few months later when he was absolutely sure,and when he knew she wouldn’t leave him.

FF8 English-French Translarison, part 21: Mother Trabia

Wooo! Vacation! Well, I actually already have a lot planned, but at least I have a little bit of time to write now. So, as promised last time, today, we are moving on to Trabia for fun times with Selphie’s destroyed school and dead friends.

To open things up, we have a small difference in tone as when asked where Selphoe is, French Squall says she went ahead, whereas English Squall says “I let her go ahead” which I like a little better as it makes it sound like he willingly let her go because he knew she needed to know how her friends were doing.

Next, we have one of my favourite bits here, Selphie’s friend, as it gives us a little insight in Selphie’s past life. We also have an example of misunderstanding in the French version, as Selphie’s friend asks if Squall is looking FOR Selphie. I found this very strange as a kid as Selphie is right there and Squall’s positive respond doesn’t match it, until I realized that in English, she asks if Squall has been looking AFTER Selphie and there clearly was some confusion on the translator’s part.

Mistake aside, it’s a bit weird as it seems to imply this is based on the English text, when most of the differences suggest the French localisation is based on the original Japanese. Maybe there’s a similar issue in Japanese where the two terms are easy to confuse.

And speaking of confusion, the English version has some too! You see, in the version of the game I’m playing for this, the Steam port, much like in all French versions, Squall can answer either “No” or “Play along”. But in the English-language PlayStation version, including the PSN port, which is how I first played the English version, both answers are replaced with... *sigh*... “whatever”. And I don’t even remember if the girls replied anything.

This is one of the main moments that really turned me against the English translation overall, as this to me really exemplified its poor choices, as a genuinely sweet and fun character moment, regardless of answer, is removed entirely and replaced with another case of “lol running gags!”.

Now to be fair, like I said, they changed it for the Steam version, so it seems it was a genuine mistake, but the fact that it was ever there still leave a bad taste in my mouth.

But let’s move on. Here’s another strange difference as if you talk to this sleepy NPC, in the English version, he talks about Tonberry King in his sleep, which seems to be a hint about him (although it doesn’t really say much on how to get him). But in French, he instead mentions a Yodux. And no, that’s not what Tonberry King, or anything else in the game for that matter, is called in French. The guy does still mention it being a GF.

I really like little mentions like that, where it brings up stuff we don’t actually get to see as it helps making the game’s world feel more alive by showing that there is other stuff going on outside of the story we follow... but it did frustrate me a bit as a kid, because it made me wonder if it implied that there WAS a GF named Yodux I could get that I missed.

This one is more of a personal thing, but I wanted to mention it. In the French version, the kids don’t specify that Selphie gave them a teddy bear, so for a little while, I thought she gave them an actual bear, or at least a cub, and the poor thing either died (since they mention they couldn’t “save” it) or disappeared during the missile attack. It eventually dawned on me that they were probably talking about a stuffed toy, but I think it speaks volume about Selphie that the thought of her capturing a live bear and giving it to children as a pet seemed like something she’d do.

Moving on to the stage, in the English version, after the girl says she was hoping for more support form the=faculty, she wonders out loud how they expect students to deal with this situation. In French, however, she says “then again, maybe the teachers also expected more from the students committee. Dude, harsh. Your school was bombed, I think it’s kind of everybody’s concern.

In the same screen, a grown-up student discusses the basketball tournament that got cancelled on account of the school getting blown up and while most of the names are the same in both versions, for some reason, the “MogMog Moogles” became the “Kikkou Maniacs” in French. Also, the grown-up doesn’t mispronounce “Mach Chocobos” as “Chocabos”, making the kid’s remark about him having a weird accent seem rather odd.

At last, we get to the basketball court. Following the trend of Squall coming across a little bit nicer in the French version, instead of wonder “What are you getting at? If someone could come up something, it’d be great...” when Linoa asks if they really have to fight, he thinks “You’re right... war is the worst of solutions”. The rest of his quote goes similarly to the English one, although interestingly, instead of using a general “they” when saying “They criticize others, but in the end, they can’t do anything, either”, French Squall gets a bit political, saying “Each government criticizes the others but, in the end, it doesn’t do any better”.

The next line goes very differently too. In English, he asks himself “Rinoa, why all this, all of a sudden? What do you expect from me? I grew up in Garden. I’m a SeeD. Do you understand?”. In French, he thinks “You’re probably asking for the impossible, Linoa... I'd like to help you, but...”

Generally speaking, this dialogue is full of small, but tonally meaningful differences. Behold:

English

Rinoa: Squall? You have to voice your feelings, or else I won’t understand.

Squall: You were... part of a resistance movement in Timber, right? Unlike others who were all talk, you took to your weapons and fought... And now you’re saying all this? What happened to you?

French

Linoa: Squall? Talk to me, express your feelings, or we will never understand each-other.

Squall: You were part of a resistance movement in Timber... Instead of quibbling like everyone else, you took arms... But now, you refuse to fight?

I love this scene in both versions, as not only is it probably the most open he’s been so far (and note that he’s doing it while talking with Linoa, showing he’s more comfortable with it when she’s around), but it also gets Linoa to admit and face her own fears, showing she feels more confident around Squall, and also that he can motivate her.

Once again, I do prefer the French take on this dialogue, though. The reason for that being that with the way it’s worded, I think it feels more personal between them, with Linoa saying they won’t understand each-other, instead of just that she won’t understand him, and Squall’s reply being not just more brief, but also more direct. It gives me the feeling he really wants it to go straight to her heart and make her understand that this is what she’s been working towards, and that he’s willing to help her with that. In that regard, I especially love that last line “But now, you refuse to fight?”. It’s very striking and I imagine it would be very effective on Linoa.

In both versions, I also love how Squall is once again emphasizing his respect for people with a strong drive, who are willing to take charge and get shit done, which is obviously why he liked Linoa from the beginning (well, the first reason was the short dress, but you know... once he found out she was a resistant) and why he eventually falls in love with her. As I’ve said before, stuff like this is why I do think it’s in character for Squall to accept Selphie’s invitation to join the Festival Committee.

Another thing I really like is how it also emphasizes how disappointing he finds it when he sees people he admires lose their drive and become less secure about their goals, which I think is the main thing that pissed him off when Quistis tried to get him to comfort her in the secret area. He always viewed her as a strong-willed person whose sheer determination got her to blow past everyone else and achieve incredible things years before most students even get to take the field exam. And here she was, suddenly showing what, at the time, Squall considered to be weakness (thinking about it, you could make an interesting treatise on that and how it mirrors how some writers can’t accept a “strong, independent female character” ever showing flaws or insecurities).

Interesting deviation when it comes to Linoa’s response. In the English version, she mentions how during combat, everyone else starts to pick up and she gets left behind, and once she catches up, she wonders if everyone’s OK and if they’ll still welcome her.

In the French version, she says that during combat, “everyone goes back to their own world” and she clams up; that she feels like she’s no longer part of the group. She also mentions how once they all “reunite”, she gets terrified at the thought of losing any of them and that everything may have gone well so far (though I think Squall’s impaled shoulder and his newfound fear of electricity may beg to differ), one day, someone might get wounded or killed.

Again, I really love that speech in both versions. What’s especially interesting is that they each seem to focus on a different aspect of Linoa’s thoughts here. In English, it really drives home the point that, being the only civilian in a group of trained soldiers, everyone else is way ahead of her in terms of fighting ability, making her fear they might start viewing her as a burden.

Meanwhile, the French version highlights how in these situations, she loses all confidence and even tends to freeze, which has been shown when she was unable to fend off the Iguions while she was all alone, whereas she never had any such issue when fighting alongside the group (and again, seems to show that Squall gives her a boost of confidence).

Either way, I really like how it showcases an aspect of Linoa’s state of mind, how battles make her insecurities rise to the surface.

Alright, time to get to the big twist! And we start with a surprising similarity: in both versions , Selphie calls Irvine “Irvy”. Nicknames like that are usually different or missing entirely in French, so it’s surprising it’s the exact same here.

Here’s an odd one that I had completely forgotten. In French, Quistis bizarrely refers to the orphanage as a castle, which is the only time it’s referred to as. Seeing as in English, she calls it “an old stone house”, perhaps it’s another confusion from the Japanese text as form what I understand, a lot of Japanese words are made by combining various concepts, so i can imagine how old + stone + house could become “castle”. Plus I guess it could have been a castle near a lighthouse.

I’ve mentioned it before, but I feel the need to bring it up again, but in French, the characters, including Squall, do not refer to Ellone as “Sis”, making the implied twist less obvious. Instead, Child!Squall has a hard time pronouncing her name and calls her “Lellone”. The kid versions of the characters also don’t speak in toddler talk like they do in English, so no extra “aaawwww”‘s for you, although their lines are written to sound a bit more naive. For example, instead of saying “Matwyn! Sis isn’t there! Where’s sis”, Child!Squall says “Miss Matron*, Lellone isn’t here! Where is Lellone?”.

*he actually uses the word “Gouvernante”, which would translate more literally to “housekeeper” but doesn’t really have a direct translation. It basically refers to a female domestic worker who handles all sorts of menial tasks; cleaning, cooking, taking care of the children, etc... it’s basically a cross between a maid and a nanny. Although in this context, it clearly refers to her being the head of the orphanage and taking care of all the children.

The twist is also preserved more with the next line, as in English, Squall says ”Sis... Where’d’yoo go? Yoo don’t like me anymore?”. But in French, he says “Where did you go, Lellone? You don’t want to be my friend any more?”. So not only does he not call her “Sis”, he also refers to her specifically as a friend, making it seem like there’s no family bond between them. Also...

On a more serious note, there is also a very interesting difference in Adult!Squall’s reaction to his child self here. You see, in English, he thinks “What a shameful sight” but in French, he instead thinks “That wasn’t nice of me...”

That’s one where I really love the French version’s interpretation of it, and one more thing that makes Squall come off a bit softer in French, as it shows that he does have some regrets on how he’s treated other people before, and also might hint at him starting to realize that he isn’t the only one to suffer from loss, and that maybe he shouldn’t drive people away when they want nothing more than to help him.

Next, we have a smaller one. In English, Quistis mentions how the group got into big trouble because of Zell telling on them for setting off fireworks. In French, she instead says that “We were really terrible...”

And here is the official establishment of Child!Squall misnaming Ellone in the French version, as he says “Lellone is Ellone. Of course! I couldn’t pronounce her name right.”

Granted, it seems a bit silly that Adult Squall wouldn’t have realized that earlier, but again, it makes the implied twist a lot more subtle than in English, where he says “Elle... Ellone. So, Ellone was ‘Sis’.” Jee, I wonder why he would have ever picked that nickname!

Although to be fair, even in French, he then says “she was a bit like my big sister...” although again, it’s much easier to buy it just being a mark of affection here then when he’s basically saying “Sister Ellone who is my sister is like a sister to me, which is why I call her sis” constantly. In fact, in the English version, it kind of comes off as an awkward cover-up when he claims they all called her Sis because she was older than the rest of them (especially when at the beginning of the flashback, we actually see a couple older kids run by).

Putting an English-language screenshot here because that line is completely absent from the French version, which is a bit of a shame as it says a lot about how Squall thinks of himself. Man, how sad is it to believe that an adorable kid couldn’t find an adoptive family because of the way they were?

There’s another difference during Quistis’ speech about her having to separate Squall and Seifer. In the end, in the English version, she says that Squall would justify taking Seifer’s challenges by saying “I gotta do my best by myself. Or else I won’t be able to see Sis’.”

In French, she is more vague, saying “I think Squall was doing all that to impress Ellone...”.

I find it rather weird either way, because the way she puts it, it makes it sound like that happened in Balamb Garden after she joined, which implies they remembered their orphanage past at this point, but other elements of the story they tell suggest they didn’t, and it would make a lot more sense if they forgot everything the moment they left the orphanage (especially since it seems pretty obvious to me Cid had the GFs intentionally wipe their memories so they would have no hang-ups about fighting Edea).

Also, if they did remember during their early days at Balamb Garden and mentioned their orphanage days, you’d think other students would have brought it up later, too.

Here’s another very interesting one. In both versions, Quistis says she thinks she wanted to take Ellone’s place after she left, but in the French version, Quistis straight-up says she thinks she was a bit jealous of Ellone. She even theorizes that perhaps her situation with Ellone was similar to Seifer and Squall’s rivalry. Pretty sure it wasn’t that bad, I don’t think they tried to murder each-other, but hey.

One thing I’m not fond of in the French version as well, is that instead of saying that even after becoming an instructor, she couldn’t stop thinking about Squall, here she says that her trying to impress Squall is probably why she became an instructor. It really seems to weaken her character to say that; of course, it could be an awkward way of saying her trying to be a big sis role-model to him is what pushed her to work hard and achieve a lot, which in turn lead to her becoming an instructor.

A much better French line with her is when she wonders if she is “unable to love” instead of wondering “A misunderstood love”.

Moving forward a bit, there’s a small one when Irvine mentions he hasn’t junctioned GFs until recently. In French, he instead says he hasn’t junctioned any “in a long time”, implying he did do it a while ago.

Big difference here, when Squall says they can’t stop Guardian Forces. Again, it’s mostly in tone, as English Squall, as ever, sounds more virulent about it:

English

Quistis: It must be the GF’s fault. ... What should we do?

Squall: What should we do? ...Nothing.

Zell: What do you mean nothing!?

Squall: So what do you want to do? You wanna stop using GF now? As long as we continue fighting, we’re indebted to the powers of the GF. If there’s a price I have to pay for that, I’ll gladly pay it.

French

Quistis: That’s the issue with G-Forces, we lose our memories by using them.

Squall: It’s unavoidable.

Zell: Can’t we do anything about it?

Squall: Sure: stop using G-Forces, but I doubt we can do without them... I have quite a few bad memories... If I lose them by using my G-Force, well, good.

Here’s a funny one, especially since it shows French Squall being meaner than his English counterpart for once. After they figure out Edea is their matron, English Squall thinks “You’re probably right” but in French, he thinks “For once, you’re right”. Ouch, Squall! What did Irvine ever do to you?

Then, we have another big difference in Irvine’s speech after he says he gets what Linoa means but he’ll keep fighting, which barely has anything to do with the English version:

I want to stay true to everything I’ve stood for. That’s why I thought it’s be best if everyone knew we would have to face Matron. You’ve all heard this before. How life has infinite possibilities. I don’t believe that one bit. There weren’t many paths for me to choose. Sometimes, there would only be one. From the limited possibilities I faced, the choices I made have brought me this far.

That’s why I value the path I chose... I want to hold true to the path that HAD to be taken. I know our opponent is Matron, whom we all love very much. We might lose something very important on account of the GF. But I don’t mind.

It’s not like I drifted here on the tides of fate. I’m here because I chose to be here. And more importantly... We all grew up together. But due to various circumstances, we were all separated. As a kid, you couldn’t really go out on your own... There were no other paths to take... All I did was just cry. But...

French

I’ll follow my principles. That’s how everybody here thinks, right? We must face Edea. Matron taught us how to live. By letting Edea act the way she does, we’re going to destroy all of our principles. In memory of our matron, we must eliminate what she became. It would be easier had our G-Forces wiped our memory entirely.

Our memories mustn’t prevent us from doing what’s right. We have to be brave... Think of the horrible threat that Edea represents... It would be selfish to condemn thousands of people, in the name of a few good memories. That’s what it means to be a SeeD, right?

It’s gonna sound corny, but... I believe in destiny. We were separated, and... Circumstances made it so we’d be back together. This is surely not a random coincidence... Er, I don’t know if I’m being clear...

Weird that it’d be so different and I have to say, in this case I think I like the English version a little better. I especially like his point that you have to choose between a set number of paths, and only sometimes do you get to do that. I’m not sure I 100% agree with that, but it is a very interesting point of view, as while it means things aren’t written in advance and you aren’t just going where fate guides you, you are sometimes faced with important choices to make, and you have to commit to those choices and deal with the consequences, but it’s also why those choices are so important. There may be a destiny, but it’s up to you to heed its call or not

And I can’t deny that very rarely in life do you get to carve out your own path, and it’s never easy. But either way, the worst decision to make is to not choose and stay stagnant. And of course, this speech is perfect for their situation as it explains why they need to make that choice. They’ve committed to it, they’ve worked towards it, they’re about to reach their goal, they can’t abandon it now and expect some random person to show up and save them from the responsibility of seeing it through.

That said, I also really like how the French version emphasizes the importance of staying true to one’s principles (which does fit the notion of committing to your choices), even if it means fighting people you once admired. Far too often do people stay blindly loyal to one person, betraying their own ideals in the process and destroying what they’ve been working towards. And yeah, considering I love stories about people having to make the very hard decision to turn on their former allies in order to do what they consider right, to fight the person they’ve become in remembrance of the person they once were, because right and wrong isn’t a matter of side, but a matter of personal values, which is a very important theme in this game, it’s no wonder FF8 remains my favourite to this day.

And that does it for today. I did go back in after the big scene to talk to the NPCs, but couldn’t find any significant difference. Feel free to drop me an ask or comment if you’re curious about specific NPCs or something, or anything else about the differences between the two localisations, really.

I’ve already said a lot about this scene, and there’s a lot more I could say, but we’d stray way off-topic for the Translarison and I’ve already gone on enough tangents today. Maybe I’ll do a specific post about it. I just want to say that while I agree with critics saying the twist comes out a bit suddenly and the GF stuff should have been foreshadowed a bit more (although then it would have been hard to avoid telegraphing it), I really don’t think that makes it a bad reveal, especially since the idea of trading your own identity for power is a very powerful one, and done way more meaningfully than in most works that attempt it, in my opinion.

Next time, we’ll wrap up the sidequests that are available for now. We’ll visit the Centra ruins, and since as far as I recall, there isn’t much dialogue there, we’ll probably stop by modern-day Winhill as well. See y’all there! Have a nice day!

His mother, Mikoto. After she sacrificed her life for him he feels indebted to her though there is nothing he can do other then try to follow a path that he thinks she would be proud of in the end, though he still does wish to this day that there was something more he could have done at the time and he wishes that she wouldn’t have shielded him from the blast but he also knows the grief she would have gone through if he would have died in her arms after just being reunited so it’s a constant struggle with himself.

3. Name one person you would sacrifice to save another’s life.

If he had to sacrifice anyone to save another person’s life he’d choose himself, though I feel like that’s not a fair option. So if we went off the last question and how he would choose to save his mother’s life, he’d sacrifice the life of any of his fathers to save her life.

30. What do you hate more, lies or secrets? Do you think there’s a difference?

Lies. He has his own secrets afterall, everyone does but he can’t stand people who lie over and over for no reason as it makes him wonder why they have to keep lying. He knows there is a difference as secrets are known in a way, afterall you may not know the secret but you do know that it is a secret. A lie you may never know that it’s a lie and you may never know what the truth is that the lie is trying to cover and that’s scary to him. He hates them but knows that some lies are necessary though even then he still feels bad if he were to ever tell a lie, even if it was meant to be in the best of intentions somehow.

He’d write her a letter about the time they spent together, about how much he values and cares about her and also ask her a favor to go to anyone he may not be able to get in contact with and let them know about his passing. He’d also let her know that it is not her responsibility to take the throne after him in Valla if she still wishes not to, after all she didn’t want to take the throne, to begin with, which is why he did. Though he may have been dying when he was writing this letter he still would have filled it with the happiest memories he could think of and try to make it not as somber or sad as it could be. He doesn’t want people to be sad over his death.

OH MY HI YES PLEASE FEEL FREE TO ASK ABOUT DEM MINTY BOIZ

(I like, typed a long thing on my phone and lost everything im salty)

So, Da Minty Boi™ (aka Weiss Von Schwarzberg) is my timeskipper oc. He’s Minty™, be it his mint green hair or the menthols he chain smokes.

His story starts in the distant past of my ocverse, which looks a lot like our world/time but with maybe some magic sprinkled in and cyborgs, idk I haven’t really developed it.

Weiss is a Depressed™ sad boi, with family issues and a gf he likes as a friend but nothing more (poor girl, she doesnt deserve this tbh). He then proceeds to timeskip to what he will learn is the distant future due to unfortunate wizard fights.

(The future is after some sort of apocalypse, but the world has had enough time to reconstruct itself around 2 major empires, and a peculiar desert which changes from Ice to sand every 1000years)

The Minty Boi finds himself in the desert (Ice) and quickly learns that he’s been thrown in the middle of some sort of murderous tournament organized by a vengeful, evil spirit.

Before he can fight anyone get killed, he’s picked up by a swordswoman, who takes pity on his lost sad ass and teaches him her sword way. Her name’s Fuyuki.

He thus gains some way to fight, but he has to participate before finishing his training, which induced its fair share of trauma, and of course, he’s had to kill people to win. That fuck u up.

Eventually he becomes skilled enough not to come so close to death every time, and Fuyuki and him find some comrades, a demon-like being that eats its brethren (I swear I decided on this before Berseria, which made me love Velvet quite a bit bcs shes like mah bby),and a divine swordsmith - Ryuuko. They also enlist the one judging the fights, a Death reaper (best lesbian, ends up as fuyuki’s wifu). With her on their side, the squad manages ot win fight while not actually killing their opponents, which is nice!

Weiss and Ryuuko have a complicated relationship. Weiss had feeligns for him, presumably Ryuuko did too, but with everything that happened, they had little time for sentimentality. They fucked to let off steam, but it never got past the “it’s complicated” stage. Add to this the fact Ryuuko makes him a divine sword, and they both make a power pact that involves exchanging left eyes. Spooky.

With the power the pact confers, they win the tournament and seal back the spirit - but they lose Fuyuki. Her wife will make her reincarnate almost right away but still, the squad mom is gone.

Then, for almost no reason, Weiss timeskips again. He’s back in his time, only 4 years later. He’s been missing for all that time. Of course, nobody believes his story. He crumbles. All the trauma from the tournament comes crashing down, now that he has the time to break down. He’s got PTSD, and living in this completely different world he had cast away is killing him. He’s also feeling extremely guilty about his gf. HE moved on in the desert, as he never thought he’d come back to his own time - but now he’s back and he realizes he basically cheated on her. Lucky for him she’s way too good for her own sake, and forgives him. Their relationship wasn’t really working anyways. They go back to being best friends.

Weiss doesn’t only have his ptsd at this point - his eye, the one from Ryuuko - starts oozing this black liquid. It’s thick, like oil. It0s because the pact is not voided, yet it can’t sense the other’s presence. The eye loses its power. He’s left with odd eyes (green - his - and gold - Ryuuko’s) the left bleeding this thick liquid and is way too photosensitive. It hurts and makes his life hell.

Now there’s two directions this can go in:

1. Weiss timeskips again with his best friend (ex gf). The squad is reunited and idk what happens, nothing that ever happened quite satisfied me (this whole story is actually quite old tbh)

2. M I N T Y B O I Z™

Basically the whole Äke/Weiss good good. Now saddle up bcs the prologue is over, friend.

So. Weiss is all depressed in his own time, and magic happens again, but this time, he worldskips. Different world!! Sav’s!!

The boi is quite lost; he doesn’t speak the language AT ALL (although his language does sound a bit germanic), and everything is a bit familiar (his time looks liek our world) but not quite the same.

at that time, he finds Äke’s flowershop and B O I. There’s cactii and a VERY CUTE BARA BOI IN THE SHOP. DOKI DOKI.

So he starts coming to that shop quite often, just to look at these kinda similar but also completely unknown flowers and plants, and to sneak glances at dem tiddies and that booty.

Slowly, by being around the shop and other people sleeping under bridges, he starts to pick up a bit of the language. He gets a small job to pay for language courses - for a while Äke doesn’t see him and gets sad :’(.

But!! One day Weiss shows up at the shop. He points to a bouquet of Roses. Äke is The Sad™ bcs that cute boi bcs there’s like hearts around the rose sign so that’s probs to ask someone out?? But. He pays for it. Then, Weiss thrusts the bouquet into Äke’s arms, and for the first time, Äke hears him speak.

“Please go out with me!”

His accent is still thick (it sounds vaguely german), but he learned the language mainly to interact with this boi. Äke Dies™.

When he hears Weiss sleeps under bridges, they move in together and there begins the domesticity that keeps my cold heart warm during the winter.

During their cohabitation, Weiss (who used not to wear the eyepatch around Äke not to scare him bcs it freaked people out back home) can’t hide the eye problem anymore. When Äke finds out (his eye bleeding the liquid), Weiss is sure he’ll be disgusted. But Äke is a GOOD™ and accepts it. Probably kissesi t better. Weiss feels Loved™.

Weiss has a vine account, and dicks around with his sword on it. Breaks things. Makes a vine called “I got scolded so i’ll fix the lamp” after every incident. He learns abt memes. Everything goes downhill.

Äke tries to get him to stop smoking but Weiss is resilient. Bad Boi.

So yeah, there it is \ouo/ We have lotsa Minty Boiz headcanons but tbh it’d get rlly long and it’s already quite the beast. Just know they’re idiots in love, and they’re perfect.
