Just posted a new fanfiction!

RK900 aka Nines is deviated by Connor and is looking for something to do. He joins the DPD after the revolution and gets assigned as Gavin's partner. Gavin isn't exactly fond of Androids and they have a pretty rough start. They slowly get used to each other until Gavin messes up and they have to start all over.

This is a Reed900 slow burn, it will take some time for the two of them to see eye to eye.

The fic includes several cases, investigations, lots of banter and bickering, angst, fluff and eventually, smut.

I wrote the first draft of this fic right after playing the game for the first time in 2021. It's been sitting in my WIP folder, waiting to be beta read and edited up until now. I'm still beta reading it to make sure the story is consistent.

This was the very first DBH fanfiction I ever wrote and some scenes of my Big Bang 2023 fanfiction was heavily inspired by it. Which is why some of the scenes might seem familiar to those who read it.

The fic was inspired by all the fanart, fanfictions I read right after playing the game. Sadly I didn't have an AO3 account back then, which made it hard to try and find all of the fics I read back then.

The two works I clearly remember are:

A major inspiration for it was the Reed900 comics and animations by liteperezito. If you haven't already, go check them out, the comics are amazing! You can find them on the website.

And of course the fanmovie Detroit Evolution of octopunkmedia, I can't even recall anymore how often I watched it. The movie had me hooked the moment I saw the intro and heard the music. It's just amazing! You can watch it as well as Detroit Reawakening on Youtube. And you know what? I'll go and watch it again.

There are also two people I would like to thank right away. @glxyqst and @cptjh-arts who had my back with moral support and brainstorming when I didn't want to work on the fic anymore. Thank you both, you're amazing. <3

also i HATE when fandoms make up ships just for the sake of making them up. the biggest example i know is reed900, those guys never interacted and barely had ten minutes of screentime combined (and that's being generous), why do we have one fan-created full-length movie and multiple fanmade spin-offs based on them?

or in the TADC fandom, everyone immediately started saying "pomni and ragatha are in love" or "jax and gangle/jax and zooble enemies to lovers" or "caine x kinger >>>" or literally ANY PAIRING YOU CAN THINK OF. just for the sake of shipping. (for the record, i ship royalteeth; these are just examples)

now, am i saying i am against shipping culture altogether? absolutely not. i love shipping my silly fictional couples, often they are a source of comfort for me. but you cannot deny that some ships are made just for the sake of having characters in relationships - as if they wouldn't be good or even better off without one! who the hell came up with pomni x jax? they don't even have chemistry, are you just shipping them because main girl + main boy = love? is that really a good base for your ship?

this may just be because the concept of romance is beyond me as an aromantic person, but i swear, i am so tired of some of these ships. i do love a good crackship (lord knows what i've done with yansim, you would call me a hypocrite if you saw my fics) and main boy x main girl can always be done correctly (mostly if it's canon though, and not just for the sake of having the two main people in a straight ship) - conrisa (connor x risa from the unwind dystology) for example is an amazing protag x protag ship, but where conrisa excels, miracolev (miracolina x lev from the same books) falls flat for me;

but sometimes i do feel like shipping is done just for the sake of having a character in a romantic relationship, and not because the ship makes sense, has chemistry or interest in one another - just because romance is the way to go, i guess. another example is hank x connor from D:BH, my god, where the fuck did that one come from? it ruins the aspect of both characters as their stories have nothing to do with romance and they even have a father-son-like relationship! jeez people

and especially in media like TADC or hitman, which do not focus on romance at all but on existential crisises (TADC) and murder and moral questions (hitman), we do not need all the pomni x jax, gangle x jax, diana x 47, diana x lucas etc. nonsense. just enjoy the thing. just enjoy the individual character.

if this comes off wrong, i'm sorry - i have a lot of thoughts about this, and i cannot word it better <//3 i don't mean disrespect as, as i've said, i love a good crackship or just ship in general... it's just... why do we always have to ship everything and everyone?

Oh my God YES (Mostly Reed900 and Simarkus :D)

The first fic I'll always recommend to everyone is Leading By Example by Kurana. It's hands down the best Simarkus fic I've ever read, and one of the best fics I've ever read in general. It's got fake relationship to lovers, mutual pining, sharing a bed, emotional intimacy, good North content, dad Carl, even some minor dad Hank in the background, and a cool plot with Kamski that interprets his character a bit differently than I would but is just as fascinating and intriguing. I love it so much and it makes me feel emotions I didn't know I had. I still cry everytime I read it.

White Lilac by WritingIsMyCoffee - This has LOTS of Dad Hank/Anderson Fam content, which is why I read it in the first place. It's kinda Chloe x Connor centric, which I don't ship but I didn't mind it, and it was cute for the story. There's background Simarkus and developing Reed900. Very angsty, but has a happy ending.

From now on forever by KaterinaSentByCyberLife, if you like wedding fluff (I usually don’t, but this one is so good). Reed900, background Simarkus, and Dad Hank, it’s beautiful I love it a lot

Interstellar Methods of Love and Murder by wordscavenger. It's Simarkus and Reed900, and an AU fic. idk what the AU is exactly but they're gay and in space, shit goes down, and they have to stop it. It's got a super cool plot and the pining is real. I love it. Also has funny RK bros shenanigans.

and the secret garden bloomed and bloomed by farouche. It's a beautiful modern AU Simarkus fic and also Simon works in a flower shop and Markus is an artist who's drawn to him. There's also some funny Daniel and Simon being brothers content.

Heavenly Bodies by raphae11e - Simarkus canon compliant AU, everything's the same except the revolution lasts several months rather than a week, and there's so much mutual pining.

welcome to hell by honeybvnches. It’s like a texting fic and it is hilarious, it’s Simarkus with background Chloenorth and Reed900

Turning the Tide by LupoLight and He's My Partner by LupoLight. They’re not related fics but I like them both a lot.

Nines is Nefarious by AndroidTrash800. It's a Reed900 Dexter AU (basically, serial killer with morals) and it's amazing. It's also funny and angsty but with a beautiful happy ending. Also Dad Hank <3

Time in a Tree and The Last Romance by SunshineHead. It's a two part series and it's so sad and sweet and ofc it has a happy ending bc I can't do angst without a happy ending but it def made me tear up. More Dad Hank <3 (Nines is called Conan in this series but I just downloaded it as an epub, opened it through the Calibre e-book editor, and used the find and replace feature to replace every instance of "Conan" with "Nines" bc I can't read him with a different name djfhsj)

GRIND ME DOWN by @texssins (texs_sins on ao3). I was expecting smut with casual plot and got blindsided by some excellent angst. There's also a twist that I SHOULD have seen coming but definitely didn't and it was awesome.

And of course, last but certainly not least, I have to recommend Adapt and Endure (the fic and the comic) by @aydaptic. It's a staple Reed900 fic. The second part - Liberosis - is great as well.

Tomorrow I’ll finally be able to share with you what I’ve been cooking for months - my Reed900 fic “Greektown Blues” 😇

It all started when I saw a video by @luisfrost51 where they put Gavin in place of the street musician in the “Shades of Color” chapter so kudos to them - without that video this fic won’t be here 💙

Also a shout-out to my bestie @leelany-world who motivated me to sign-up in the first place and to finish my fic on time 😉

I’ve met so many talented people along the way and got to work with such amazing artists - @vladlen4i, LarsArtt (you can find them on twt) and @cptjh-arts who wasn’t my initial artist but did everything to be one too and also made me two artworks instead of one! 🥰 Can’t wait to see and read all our creations 🤩

The sound of Gavin's heart beating against his ear.

A steady beat, strong and warm, so warm.

With his cheek resting on Gavin's chest, Nines breathed: "Gavin... "

Gavin hummed and Nines sensed the small beat of his lover's heart at the exact moment Gavin had heard his voice.

He could not help but repeat: "Gavin, love..."

Gavin hummed again, and Nines felt his heart begin to beat faster.

He whispered again, "I love you so much."

Gavin gasped and Nines felt his heartbeat grow louder and more rapid.

Gavin lifted his chin and kissed him gently on the lips before saying softly, "It's not that I don't like it, but to what do I owe this sudden declaration, babe?"

Nines placed his hand on Gavin's heart and replied softly, "I love to feel your heart respond to my voice."

Gavin chuckled softly, "Of course it responds to your voice, my heart only beats for you."

It was Nine's turn to laugh, "Amazing, who knew Gavin Reed was such a sap?"

Gavin shook his head, "This is all your fault. Take responsibility."

"I'm defeated here," Nines replied before snuggling up to Gavin, who wrapped his arms around him.

After a few moments of silence, Nines whispered, "You know, even though you can't feel it, my heart beats only for you, too."

Gavin pulled Nines under him and replied, "What are you talking about?"

He gently patted the center of Nines' chest and continued, "I don't even have to feel your heart in your chest to know it's beating."

Gavin buried his face in Nine's neck and planted a tender kiss on it. Then he raised his hand to Nine's temple, where his LED began to flicker slightly. "See, right now I can see your heart beating, I can see it accelerating right now."

He slid against Nines' side and, resting his head on his shoulder, grabbed his wrist and kissed the inside of it before whispering, "I love you, Nines."

Pointing again at Nines' LED, which was now blinking faster, he added, "I can see the effect of my words on you there, too."

Gavin moved to be on top of Nines again, framing his face with his hands.

"Nines, your heart, I can feel it beating for me in your whole body, I can see it not only in your LED, but in all the ways you react when I touch you and there, in your eyes. He leaned over and kissed each of Nine's eyes, "Every time you look at me, I can see in your eyes how much your heart beats for me."

Then Gavin leaned forward and tenderly pressed his lips against those of his lover.

At that moment, neither of them needed to feel the other's heartbeat to know that they were beating in perfect harmony.

I don’t know if this has happened before but this definitely the first time I’m seeing it.

I honestly can’t believe that a ship that has absolutely nothing in canon is, as of this moment, the most popular ship in the dbh fandom on ao3

Granted, it is only by one fic but I’ve been seeing r9 slowly catch up to hankcon since I’ve rejoined the fandom and r9 actually caught up.

how frequently do you read fan fiction? and do you have any dbh fanfics to recommend? please do share!!

Rarely. I'm sure there are amazing fics I've been recommended that I still haven't read, because yeah, I rarely have a mood to read them and I'm a slow reader. Also I have this annoying tendency to abandon fics after a few paragraphs or chapters for quite random reasons.

Anyways, here's a list of things I've read and I think I can recommend:

A Ghost by Midnight -THE BEST ONE I'VE EVER READ. Just painfully amazing, it honestly blew my mind that a fiction can make me feel SO MUCH, because no other media EVER hurt me like this fanfiction did, just holy fuck, there is one sentence that just breaks my heart every time I remember it even now. This is a piece of art, a masterpiece. Every damn sentence is perfect and feels like a punch in the gut. Read it if you want text to physically hurt you. There is technically a second part, but I'm not going to recommend it because it was abandoned on a cliff-hanger and honestly this (technically first) part is perfect the way it is on its own.

Cast & Sugar - one shot, really cute one (the only non-hurt thing in this whole list, lol), centres around PM700. Really poetically well written. If you'll like this one, I also recommend another PM700 centric fic by the same author You can't kill me

ALSO from this author there's an amazing comics ZENO that technically isn't a fic, but I feel like it belongs here ZENO - it's not finished, but hopefully some day it will

You are enough - fun fact, it was the first fanfiction I've read in my life and in dbh fandom specifically. It's reed900, and even though it's not my cup of tea NOW, back then I really liked it, so if you like hurt/comfort and reed900, you'll probably like this one.

Detroit Become Nothing - another 'technically not a fic', but I must mention it. It's a text-based game that has different outcomes depending on how you play it. It has a fic attached to it, yes, but go play it first. Once again, it's quite heavy stuff. Honestly I am scared to play it again, so I still don't know all the outcomes. But give it some love, this is amazing.

Next two ones are Hankcon with lots of hurt

Eternal Winter - this one is written in a really addictive way that gave me shit ton on emotions, but it is REALLY Connor-centric. Author did what we all dream about and just tortured the shit out of him both mentally and physically. I imagine, it must've been really fun to write. Beware of tags, but this one isn't graphic, unlike the next one

Buried Beneath the Snow - MIND THE FUCKING TAGS, this one is really dead dove kind of situation. I'm honestly not sure if I should recommend it, because this thing is really graphic, cruel and well, it is fucked up. I probably wouldn't read it if I knew how graphic shit gets (I'm pretty sure I didn't check the tags AT ALL when I started reading it), but the writing in is absolutely fantastic, so when I realised how vile this thing is, it was too late to stop. Also it'll make you hate Gavin so fucking much you won't be able to see him the fanon way again. So, beware. This thing is brutal, so really think twice before reading it if you end up deciding to try.

#basically as you may have noticed I just like when fanfiction is so full of misery I feel it in my guts lol #I don't know why I'm such a big fan of “let's put this character through absolutely traumatizing shit”#I honestly don't have an answer #I wish I had more fluff things to include but I can't remember any #if you wanted smut recs you should have said exactly that #not like I have many maybe only two everyone already knows about #so the list is as it is

Hell yeah i got some recs!! Most of mine are going to be more Hank and Connor or Reed900 centric, so keep that in mind.

From it's Own Wreck by Jivvin is my current favorite! It's a ghost au based on the film Just Like Heaven (2005) and it's full of gorgeous writing and has lots of great moments in it. I can't recommend it enough. It is incomplete, but the author regularly updates and it's a few chapters away from being finished.

Deviating and Solving Crime with 100% Human Detective Connor by CaptainKenway. Exactly what it says. You're solving crime with a 100% human detective, nothing else. Nothing suspicious about him. 0_0 It has some good angst and funny moments, and i really enjoyed reading it.

Detroit 07 by Rhinozilla is INCREDIBLE! It's a 38 part series (i know, im stilling working through it) and it's got so much angst, found family, comfort, crack shenanigans, and just as much plot as there is silly oneshots. It's got some OCs in it that are amazing and fit so well into the story, and it does deviate a little bit from the norm (different name for Nines for example, and no reed900) but it's still really good. Since there are so many parts to it and two of the parts are over 400k each, here are some of the smaller oneshots that can be read easily by themselves:

Color Wheel: Connor sustains minor damage to the hardware controlling his appearance. Everybody in the bullpen is united with one singular mission: do not let Connor know that his hair keeps changing colors.

The Breathing Graveyard: The DPD sends Connor to talk down a volatile deviant that's holed up in a trailer near the android scrapyard. It doesn't go the way any of them expect.

Bubbles: Connor gets stuck watching a lost little girl while they wait for her parents to come pick her up at the station.

And then i'd recommend Chapter 51 of Camaraderie if you're up for a wholesome father-son moment.

Through Your Veins by AceEmerson: Nines gets hurt and Gavin takes him back to his apartment to patch them up. There is also an android cat, first kiss, and TENSION

Secret by sv962: Role-reversal Reed900, first kiss. Tis very good. Semi-short at less than 5k and you want a good little role reversal, i recommend it.

The unexpected benefits of having a therapist terminator by texs_sins: Undeviated Nines decides to become Gavin's therapist to help improve their work partnership. 'Surely exposing himself to human emotions won't make a difference, after all nothing has ever made him deviate, right?' it's a fantastic fic and i love their take on Machine Nines and Deviated Nines. (fair warning because it's not listed in the tags, there's a little bit of smut in the last chapter, but easily skippable if you aren't up for it)

Beautifully Unique and Strange by cliffhanging: autistic Connor oneshot because we need more autistic Connor fics

Only Skin Deep by the AsexualofSpades: pre-relationship Reed900, where Nines tries to hide as much of his androidness in response to his anti-android partner five times and the one time he doesn't. It has a nice follow up fic too and i recommend it!
