f!reader x PT!Jamie (modern au) 1.5k words
summary: reader has a bad gym experience and jamie gets protective
cw: working out, mention of potential injury, mentions of sexual harrassment (ass grabbing)
sidenote, that I've seen a lot of this behaviour in the gym before and it makes me sick. writing about it and imagining how jamie would handle it makes me less sick. imagining big strong pt!james making the world better, one set of keys at a time. please, always be aware of your surroundings if you are working out at the gym, especially alone <3
James pulls you out from under the bar of the smith machine by the hips seconds before it clatters to the ground with a sickening thud and clang of metal. You stumble under his harsh hands, land on the ground at his feet and let out a pained whoosh of breath. Luckily, the gym is empty save for the two of you, sparing you the embarrassment of having people watch the commotion.
He's on you in an instant, gentle hands that cradle your neck as he crouches in front of you and pushes your head from side to side with a little pressure from his thumbs. All you can do is blink, try to process what, exactly, just happened. "You're not sore here?" James asks you, brows furrowed and almost touching in the middle, his fingers pressing into the base of your neck.
Your first thought is that James doesn't suit frowning. A silly thought, considering you almost decapitated yourself with a one hundred kilogram squat rack. "No. Just my ass from crash landing." You don't fail to notice the way your voice sounds distant, detached.
James' hands are warm on your neck, a burning touch that you want to lean into. You don't, and it's gone as James collapses down across from you, his elbows resting against his knees. His face turns stern, "What's going on?"
You feel like you're being scolded, and maybe you should be. It's a well known fact that form is everything, that being distracted in the gym can lead to serious injuries. You'd known you wouldn't be able to focus today, you'd known you should've stopped that set and corrected yourself when you could feel the weight more in your back than your legs. But, you hadn't. You're distracted, you're angry. You'd walked into the gym full of frustration and it'd almost ended terribly.
Tears fight their way to your eyes and they burn. You feel a lump forming in your throat that forces you to look away from James. Kind, patient James, who allows you the moment to collect yourself as you pull your legs to your chest. "Shitty week." It comes out mumbled, your voice defeated.
James nods understandingly. "A shitty week doesn't make you lose focus like that, though. There's something more to it."
It's not like James to push. He's friendly and he's kind, he can be a menace when he wants to be, and sometimes you even think he's flirting with you - but he never pushes. You want to open up, you want to step out of that weird area of professionalism you can never seem to get past with him. But unloading your shitty week on him doesn't feel like the way to do that. So you shrug, pulling your knees to your chest until your chin rests atop them, "I'm just stressed. I'm sorry I didn't say anything, I knew my form was wrong but I was too distracted to stop and fix it."
"I don't care that your form was wrong," James shakes his head as though offended you'd think such a thing, "I mean," He pauses, searching for the words, "Obviously, I care that it was wrong because you almost got hurt. But what I mean is that you should've told me you were stressed, that you were feeling a bit distracted."
You find yourself nodding, eyes downcast at your crossed ankles.
"I was waiting for you to correct the form yourself. If I knew you were distracted, I'd have told you to stop. I'm sorry, too." James' voice has turned soft, less stern. He nudges his foot until it's in your line of vision, tapping it against yours until you're looking up.
He's waiting with a smile, his eyes gentle and patient. It feels odd. New, foreign. You can't really describe the feeling. "A guy grabbed my ass in the gym, yesterday." You breathe out, unsure really of what it is that's made you tell him.
It could be that you trust him. It's hard not to build trust with someone in James' position, it's literally his job to stop things like one hundred kilogram bar bells falling on top of you. Or, it could be that not telling anyone, reliving how powerless you'd felt, going over everything you could've done differently, it's eating you alive. Sharing this with James, who sees every day what gyms are like, how people in some gyms behave, you have a feeling that he'll get it. That he'll help you process.
But, he doesn't say anything. Just stares with a look that you can't read. The muscles in his arms shift, his hands clenching around each other tightly, and his jaw clenches. You think he might not say anything, though, you know James is better than that. The silence stretches until the tears in your eyes abate, then James finally croaks, "He what?"
Your veins crackle with the anger in his voice, the darkness that clouds his eyes. You'd never have imagined James in such a light if he wasn't sitting right in front of you, the very picture of livid. You shrug, as though feigning nonchalance might abate the white hot anger you know very well the feeling of. "I was doing those stupid kick back thingies you're always on about. Just messing about as a cool down, trying to correct my own form. He came over and started giving me advice, which I thought was just him being nice."
James shakes his head, remorse like a white sheet of dread across his beautiful face. You swallow, picking at a hangnail on your thumb, "He kind of just," You shift your hands as though grabbing your own hips, "Grabbed me like that and my throat went dry. When he was leaving he grabbed my ass and said 'you're welcome'."
"You didn't report him to the gym staff?"
You shake your head, lip trapped between your teeth. "I wasn't even planning on telling you until I nearly killed myself with the smith machine."
James sighs, one of his hands coming up to rub at his face. He looks nauseous, almost. "I'll get you a set of keys for this gym. You can work out here, from now on. No one will bother you."
It's a nice offer. It makes your heart swell and your cheeks heat. James has always gone above and beyond. He fits you into his schedule despite your crazy work hours and never charges you for the session if you have to cancel day of. But the reason you don't have a membership at his gym is because it's not in your price range. So you smile, kind, if a little tight lipped, "James, you know I can't."
"I'm not saying get a membership. I'm saying I'll get you a set of keys. You can come and go as you please, even after work, whatever time you want." His voice is thick, his eyes earnest and almost pleading.
"I can't ask you to do that."
James scoots closer, fingers flexing as though he might reach out for you, but is stopping himself. He chases your gaze, waits until he has it, until your lips part under the weight of it and your heart hammers against your chest, to speak. "You're not asking. I'm offering. I can't believe that happened to you and it makes me so angry. I'm not going to sit by and do nothing about it."
You sigh, unwilling to argue when James sounds so passionate, so sure of himself. A smile makes its way to your lips, timid, unsure, "Thanks, Jamie."
He nods. "Any time."
"Are you sure the owner won't mind?" You ask.
James grins, some of the mischievous twinkle returning to his eyes, "He's my best mate, it'll be fine."
He offers you a hand as he stands, the storm clouds passing and the weight already lifting from your chest. It feels brighter, in the gym. You take James' hand, let him pull you up. He does his signature move of tugging you until you're stumbling towards him, his laugh echoing off of the concrete walls when you curse him out for it.
"Start from the beginning?" James asks, moving to return the smith machine to where you need it to be.
You take a breath, watch the way his shoulder muscles strain against his top as he bends and lifts. It brings a smile to your lips, the feeling of familiarity you hadn't felt upon entering the gym earlier. "I believe I was at five reps when I dropped the bar."
James tsks, "Dropping it doesn't count as a rep. Call it four."
"Cruel."
James only winks, offers you his award winning smile as you settle yourself under the bar. This time, with the correct form. He nods, and you twist to unlock, eyes on his in the mirror.
"That's one." He grins, crossing his arms over his chest.
You consider dropping the bar on his head, next.

i thought that i was dreaming when you said you loved me
↳ summary: read this drabble first! goodie two shoes!remus, afraid of being perceived as other, stumbles into a relationship at the expense of y/n. ↳ content: angst, one-sided fake dating ↳ a/n: a little nervous because this is my first time writing for remus pls be gentle w me! for full enjoyment, listen to ivy by frank ocean (i looped it the entire time i wrote this). the more i wrote this, the more i realized i could turn this into a full blown million word fic, but i tried to keep it as condensed as possible, hence some time skips/summarization. pt. 2 here!
When Remus Lupin confesses — no, announces — that he likes her in the middle of the Great Hall, she thinks she's dreaming. Surely, she didn't hear that correctly. Only hours earlier, she had witnessed the doe-eyed boy unleash a slew of curses beneath his breath. I guess everyone has bad days, she had thought. Even Remus, who she had always pegged as straight-laced and well-mannered.
So when a half a dozen heads turn to stare at her directly, Y/N turns to see if there's anyone behind her. When she sees no one, she turns back forward. It's when Remus Lupin's soft, brown gaze meets hers that her heart stutters dangerously in her chest. She can't help it despite the bewilderment she feels — everyone in the castle has to have some sort of crush on the fluffy-haired boy. He's all soft, disarming smiles and beautiful, brown eyes and knitted jumpers and gentle laughter and—
—and Y/N goes red in the face right away. It doesn't help when Remus tilts his head to the side slightly and offers a small, uncertain smile. Merlin, help me, Y/N thinks as she stares back, wide-eyed, her confusion and any thoughts briefly neutralized at the way his eyes crinkle into little half-moons.
— — — — —
Y/N has always prided herself on being a sharp judge of character. It soon became clear to her, however, that Remus Lupin was a strange, but intriguing case of contradicting character.
Following his confession — rather, announcement — in the Great Hall, she becomes overly conscious of the tall boy. It feels as though she's suddenly very aware that they have most of their classes together, that he sits only a seat away from her in Charms, that he has chicken scratch for handwriting when she passes him in the library. The latter comes as a surprise — perhaps unfairly, she would have pegged him as a swooping cursive type of boy. In any case, it soon becomes the case that Y/N realizes that she can find Remus easily in a room of crowded students, and the more she does, the more she begins to realize that Remus is a boy full of surprises.
This doesn't seem to matter though, because strangely, after his confession in the Great Hall, Remus does not once approach her. Occasionally, she catches him glancing at her with an odd expression, but outside of an increase in being stared at by the other students, little changes in her life.
It isn't until a week later when her seat partner in Charms is out that their paths cross again. When she trudges to her seat in class, she becomes very quickly aware that they're separated only by an empty chair. She doesn't look away fast enough because Remus looks up as she pulls her chair out, his gaze snagging on to hers with an intensity that she doesn't expect from the softness of his eyes.
"Good morning," he says slowly, almost uncertainly. Up close, Y/N can see a splay of pale freckles across his cheekbones. His lashes are unfairly, distractingly long as he gazes up at her.
"Hi," Y/N says, equally uncertain, though she tries to keep her voice light and casual. No one's ever really had a crush on her before, and she finds herself floundering on how to act. Shouldn't he be the nervous one, and not her? Somehow though, she can feel her palms begin to sweat, though Remus doesn't look nervous at all. Just sharp and assessing. Fortunately though, before the air between them can turn any awkwarder, a mussed-haired head pops up from around Remus.
"Y/N, right?" James Potter asks with a wide grin. His glasses are skewed and crooked on his face as he peers around Remus at her rather owlishly.
Next to him, Remus blinks a few times as she nods, opening her mouth to speak when Professor Flitwick clears his throat to begin class.
She tries to focus on taking notes, but it's difficult when she can see Remus casting her sidelong glances from her peripheral view. She gives up on trying to focus on class entirely when a folded piece of parchment flits over the gap between them with a familiar chicken scratch.
Can we talk after class?
After class, Y/N has a ridiculous, irrational flash of self-consciousness that the humidity has made her hair begin to frizz. Remus doesn't seem to notice as she rakes a hand quickly through her hair because a nervous, almost agitated, energy is rolling off of him as he paces in the courtyard.
When he catches sight of her, he stops, a warm smile breaking across his face, though Y/N feels that it doesn't quite reach his eyes. But the new knowledge that Remus has a dimple on his left cheek and his smile is just slightly crooked is enough to disarm any wariness. Unexpectedly his nervous energy seems to dissipate immediately. "Hi," he says, "You came."
"I got your note," Y/N says, inwardly grimacing — of course he knew that already, he had been sitting next to her.
"Right, well, I, er—" Remus begins choppily, his hand rising to rub at the nape of his neck. "I was wondering about... Earlier, last week, when you saw me... Did you say anything to anyone?"
Y/N blinks at him once, then twice, blankly. "Earlier?" She questions, before the heat begins to rise to her face. He must have been referring to his confession. "I haven't said anything to anyone."
Remus's brows furrow for a moment before his face relaxes. He's surprisingly difficult to read — it feels as though any trickle of emotion is covered with a disarming soft smile. "I see," he says after a moment, his shoulders relaxing. "Right, well, Y/N," he begins, looking around them distractedly. "—shall we date?" Y/N straightens with a jolt as he continues. "I won't be offended if you say no. In fact, I'd understand if you said no, we've barely—"
She doesn't know what it is exactly. Maybe it was the curious thought that Remus might not be the charming prince he seemed to be. Maybe it was the dimple in his left cheek. Maybe it was the way he said her name. But something in Y/N slipped through her confusion and the unceremonious nature of the whole thing, because she finds herself speaking before she can stop herself. "Yeah. Let's date."
Remus's face goes slack. He looks a little startled, Y/N thinks, like she's clubbed him over the head. "Are you sure?" He blurts, eyes widening a fraction. It's perhaps the most emotion she's seen him show so far. Y/N writes it off as nerves and incredulity.
She nods once, firmly.
"I guess that's settled," he says weakly with furrowed brows, though he looked neither pleased nor displeased.
— — — — —
Initially, Y/N and Remus are as awkward as can be. She's not sure if it's because neither of them have really ever been in a relationship before, but it feels clumsy in the beginning.
Their dates start off mostly as study dates in the library, but Y/N doesn't mind — to her pleasure, she finds that they eerily work well together and she likes the calm peace of Remus's presence while she's studying. She likes to think that he also finds comfort in her presence because it's become ritual for him to ask her about the book she's reading, and vice versa. In a few weeks, they start reading the same books. Maybe it's because they spend so much time together studying that it becomes gradually more comfortable.
When they go to Hogsmeade for the first time together, Y/N finds that they end up walking around the village and chatting nearly until curfew. She tells him about what it's like growing up with three brothers — "It doesn't seem very different from the Marauders," Remus observes with a wry laugh — and he tells her stories of how despite moving around periodically during his child, his mother always found a little corner in the yard to start an herb garden.
He does all the things she'd imagine a boyfriend might — Remus is a gentleman, expectedly. He holds the door open for her, gives her his jumper when there was a draft in the library, walks her back to the Common Room at night.
But, unexpectedly, it isn't Remus's soft smiles or considerate aura that Y/N finds herself straining to see. But it was when he threw his head back and laughed himself breathless at James holding his wand on the wrong end that Y/N found it impossible to tear her eyes away from him. Or when he shot her a dour look the first time she teased him on his illegible chicken scratch. Or when Remus cursed like a sailor when he knocked his ink pot over onto his parchment because he was always so uncoordinated and graceless.
It was perhaps impossible not to fall in love with Remus Lupin. Though maybe she already knew this from the start when he first looked at her, and even more so the first time he said her name.
She liked the way he would groan and complain and grumble as he stretched out his lithe limbs in preparation of helping Peter with his essay that he had procrastinated on, even after she could see the exhaustion begin to pool under his pretty eyes. She liked that he could silence the boys with just one baleful look. She liked the way he fell asleep on his books when he thought no one was looking. She liked his dry remarks and his wolfish grin and his grumpy mood. She liked all the rough edges that Remus showed her when he would forget to put up a soft smile.
It was too easy to love Remus Lupin, though it seemed like he didn't know that himself.
It only takes four full moons for Y/N to understand what the Marauders meant whenever they quietly referred to Remus's furry little problem. In the first place, they weren't always discreet — it was easy for them to forget she was there when she was studying in the background. In the second place, Remus would apologetically cancel their studying plans around the same time each month, and he would disappear for a few days and come back exhausted with fresh scars. It wasn't difficult to put two and two together, really.
But while she understood why he didn't tell her, she couldn't help but give him a tighter hug when she realized.
"Something wrong, love?" He had asked, reaching up to caress the back of her hair as she squeezed his abdomen.
"No," she had mumbled into his shirt, breathing in his familiar scent. She could feel affection swell inside her so violently she felt a little dizzy as she gave him another squeeze. "Just wish I could always be hugging you."
"No one's stopping you," Remus had responded dryly. She smiled into his chest as he rested his chin on the crown of her head. "Certainly not me."
— — — — —
When Y/N tries to discreetly deliver a small care package of chocolate and books a few nights before the next full moon, she accidentally overhears Peter ask James when Remus was ending his fake relationship.
"I doubt it'll raise any suspicions now that no one's pestering him about not having a girlfriend," she hears Peter say.
James makes a noncommittal sort of noise. "You know how Remus is about these things. He's always on edge that someone will think he's the odd one out—"
She feels like the ground beneath her has stuttered and shifted into an open chasm as her mind whirls to make sense of their conversation. For a moment, she thinks she's wrong, but like it was with Remus's furry little problem, if she thinks back on the stranger moments of the past four months, it's not difficult to piece it together. She begins to feel a little ill.
How many times did he force himself to smile at her stories? How many times after walking her back to the Common Room at night did he sigh with relief when she left? How many times did he wait for other students to be around to hold her hand? All the heart-fluttering moments she had thought had been magical and wonderful and incredible with Remus had been entirely one-sided. How humiliating. She feels used and dirty and pathetic, but the worse thing is that she can't feel angry.
She doesn't know how long she stands paralyzed outside, just that it's difficult to breathe or think properly. All she can feel is a numbing ache in her chest, and the feeling tightens when she hears a familiar voice behind her.
"Hmm?" Remus hums, a smile breaking across his face. The dimple in his left cheek appears briefly. "What are you doing here, love?" When she doesn't respond, he steps closer to her and peers at her face carefully, his big, brown eyes soft. "What's wrong?" He asks, gently looping his arms around her waist. Y/N goes perfectly still under his touch. "I knew you'd be studying for the Ancient Runes exam all day, so got some cakes from the kitchen for—"
"Remus," she interrupts suddenly, her throat gone cottony and dry as she raises her gaze to finally look at him. It sends a sharp pang through her chest again. "Are we ever going to kiss?"
Bizarrely, scarlet splotches appear swiftly on the high points of Remus's cheek as his eyes widen a fraction. "Kiss," he repeats, sounding strangled as he stares at her wide-eyed, looking as though she had clubbed him over the head. "You want to kiss?" He asks after a moment, his voice hoarse as his eyes flicker down to her lips.
"Do you want to kiss me?" She asks quietly, watching his throat bob as he swallows thickly.
"I've wanted to since—" Remus says softly, a little nonsensically, his eyes darting back down to her lips. His pupils are blown wide and dark as he swallows, his throat bobbing. “Y/N,” he murmurs, and she can feel his breath brush against her nose. She tries to control the thumping in her chest as he slowly leans in and raises his hand to cup her face. Remus looks down at her with a sweet adoration she knows cannot be real. She's seen this sort of soft look from him countless times before and now she knows better than anyone that it's just another cover. Perhaps it was perfectly clear since the start, but she had let herself get swept away with naive hope. The start of nothing. She feels like a fool.
Remus's head ducks slightly as the space between them closes. Y/N goes perfectly still as she watches his other hand rise, his fingers trembling a little as they reach to curve around her jaw.
For a moment, she entertains the thought and wonders what would happen if she just closes her eyes. She could close her eyes, could lean in and feel his eyelashes brush her cheek, could let him kiss her senseless. It would be so easy. It scares her a little how much she wants that.
Before she can betray herself, Y/N closes her hand around his wrist. “You can stop now,” she says, her voice low and steadier than she felt.
Remus freezes, his dazed expression crumpling in confusion. She takes a steadying breath, swallowing back the bile in her throat as she schools her expression with difficulty. Y/N places his wrist back down away from her face and lets go as she continues, despite the dull ache in her chest. “I wanted to know how far you would go,” she continues quietly. “How far you thought I would be willing to go.”
“I don’t understand—” Remus begins, a myriad of stricken dismay, alarm, and something else flickering across his face. For a moment, she thinks it’s the residue of desire, but she quickly remembers how good of an actor Remus is, and doesn’t let herself entertain that thought that it’s anything else besides panic for being caught.
"I know you're just using me," Y/N says, her throat dry. Her voice, to her mortification, cracks and comes out as a croak. Any sense of anger deflates immediately and all she can feel is this crumbling sense of defeat. “I should have known that something was strange when you suddenly confessed. We had never even really talked before that. I mean, I thought that I was dreaming when you said you liked me—"
“No, it's because—”
"I know why you did it," she whispers. Remus freezes, the color draining from his face. "The worse part of all this is that I can't find it in myself to hate you for using me. But I had just thought that you didn’t think so little of me as to…” She doesn’t finish as she stares down at the space between them, swallowing thickly. She feels ill. The last sentence had come out before she realized it. So that was what it was — disappointment.
"Did you even know my name before James said it?" She asks with a bark of a forced laugh as she straightens, setting her shoulders now though she still has a difficult time looking directly at him.
Remus swallows thickly as he steps forward. His pause is enough of an answer. "Let me explain,” he begins quickly, his words tumbling out in a frantic mess. “Y/N, wait,” he starts, reaching out.
“Don’t touch me, Lupin,” she says dejectedly, stepping away from him. Remus flinches and freezes, his expression falling, but she can't bring herself to look at him in the eye anymore. Y/N stares at the worn patch of carpet by her shoe as she swallows thickly before turning to leave. "You can tell everyone that you broke up with me if it helps you."

It has been two weeks since Michelle revealed that Y/n and James like eachother in front of everyone... and since then, the pair hadn't talked to each other much.
They only hung out together when they were with the rest of the group and they only communicated in short 'His' and 'Byes'. It was very awkward, but neither of them knew what to say.
Y/n sat in her English class, trying to focus on her assignment when she heard her teacher mutter the words "Ah, fuck,"
The girl tried her hardest not to laugh at her teacher's uncharacteristic profanity but immediately snapped out of it when she heard her name being called.
"Mr. Maguire and Ms. L/n, could the two of you please go to the storage cupboard and grab the two boxes that has the copies of Romeo and Juilet in them. I forgot to bring them to class,"
Y/n glanced at James, who was sitting near the back of the class, only to find that he was already looking at her. They both looked away quickly, hoping the other person didn't catch them staring.
"Yes miss," the pair replied in unison before leaving the classroom, both of them looking towards the ground.
Neither y/n or James spoke a word on their walk to the storage cupboard. It was the first time that they had been alone together in weeks.
While they were walking, James was trying to figure out how he would start the conversation, how he would tell y/n that Michelle was right about his feelings for her.
Y/n opened the door of the cupboard, almost sneezing from the dust. She pulled on the string attached to the bare lightbulb above her head and the inside illuminated. The space was quite big, it was more like a small room than a cupboard, but the boxes and shelves on each of the walls made it that there was only about two square meters of standing room.
"Can you hold the door? It's one of those ones that you can't open from the inside," Y/n turned to James.
"Yeah sure," he quickly nodded, as he stood with his back to the cupboard door.
Y/n tried to look through a few of the boxes, there was exam papers and old documents but no sight of Romeo and Juliet.
The girl stood on her tip-toes as she tried to take the top box off of the big stack in the corner, but it was heavier than expected and came falling down towards her head.
Y/n shut her eyes, anticipating the weight of the box but it never came... as she opened her eyes, she saw that James was standing right beside her, slowly putting the box on the floor.
"Are you alright?" He asked. Y/n could hear his English accent seeping through as he spoke. She had always found his accent incredibly attractive but would never dare to tell anyone.
"Uhh, yeah. Thank you James," she smiled a little flustered. The pair were frozen still, just staring at each other in silence. Their moment was broken when they heard the cupboard door click shut.
Y/n rushed to the door as she furiously tried to turn the handle, but it was no use. She turned back to face James. "I think we're locked in" she said before looking inside the box on the ground. "But at least we found the books!"
James' face expression became one of panic as he frantically knocked on the door, obviously not caring about the books. "Let us out of here!" He shouted.
Y/n then burst out into laughter as she slid to sit on the floor. It was the middle of a class so no one would be wandering the halls for another half-hour. This whole situation just seemed hilarious to her.
"What are you laughing for," James crossed his arms. He couldn't help but crack a smile at the girl's contagious laugh.
"I'm never talking to you again. You're cursed!" She joked as you continued to laugh uncontrollably.
"What do you mean?" James chuckled. He was happy that the awkwardness seemed to be gone, although the knew that the peace wouldn't last forever.
"The first time I talk to you in 2 weeks and we get trapped in a dusty, old cupboard," y/n explained as she calmed down.
The English boy rolled his eyes. "Ok, it hasn't been 2 weeks," he argued although he knows it probably was.
"Uh, yeah it has," the Irish girl stood up so she could prove her point. "I haven't spoke to you since Michelle told-" y/n started, but quickly went silent as she realise where the conversation was heading.
James shut his eyes closed as he ran his hand through his mop of curly hair. The awkwardness had come back just as quickly as it had gone. He knew he had to say something or else it would be like this forever.
"Listen, y/n, I'm really sorry about what Michelle said, you know how she is. I'm also really sorry that I didn't apologise earlier. I just didn't know how to-" he started to ramble, but was cut off by Y/n.
"Is what Michelle said true? James do you- do you like me as more than a friend?" Y/n asked him straight up. She needed to know the answer.
James looked towards the ground. He wanted to say no but he couldn't lie, not to her. She deserved the truth. He slowly nodded and he looked up to see y/n standing there, eyes wide.
"Shit. I'm sorry y/n. I- I shouldn't have said anything but I just thought that you might've liked me back. Now I see that I'm totally wrong so... just forget about it," James continued embarrasedly.
Then, Y/n did something that she had wanted to do since she first met James. She took hold of his face and pressed her lips against his passionately. It took the boy a minute to process what was happening, but once he did he wrapped both arms around y/n's waist and pulled her tightly against him.
A few moments later, y/n pulled away from the kiss. She didn't bother moving out of James' embrace, however. "You were not totally wrong, James. I like you, alot," the girl confirmed.
James broke into a smile as he looked at the girl infront of him. "Does that mean your my girlfriend, now?"
Y/n let out a small giggle. "Yeah, I think it does,"
This time, James was the one initiating the kiss as he pulled her closer and felt one of her hands running through his hair. The couple were so caught up in the moment that they didn't even hear the cupboard door opening.
"Fucking hell, I don't think that's how 7 minutes in heaven works... someone has to dare ya," a voice proclaimed, which made the teenagers immediately distance themselves as much as possible.
They turned to see Michelle, a smirk growing on her face. James' face turned a bright shade of red as he came face to face with his cousin, who was definatley gonna taunt him about this later. "What are you doing here, Michelle?" he asked, breathlessly.
Michelle laughed. "I was sent to look for you both. Everyone thought yous were mitchin'. But now I see that you were just swapping saliva in a filthy press that smells of moth balls... real romantic,"
"Shut up and help us carry these back to class," y/n shot back at her friend as she picked up the box on the floor and put it into Michelles open arms.

(10/4) prompt: scream — 874 words (fame au pt.4; ‘what do you mean you could have been in a scream movie?’ edition - pt.1, pt.2, pt.3, pt.5) @jegulus-microfic
“You’re not even watching the movie,” James complains.
Regulus looks up from his phone, glancing first at the TV screen then over at his boyfriend. He and James have been on the couch for hours, binging the Scream movies on their shared free day. James had decided that they’re the perfect way to ‘kick off Halloween month’ or whatever. Regulus has his legs laid over James’ lap, ankles crossed, a pillow over his lap to prop up where he’s been toggling between apps on his phone for the majority of the film.
“I know what happens in this one already,” Regulus says.
James scoffs. “How could you possibly know? You literally said you haven’t seen five and six.”
Regulus goes back to scrolling through his Instagram feed leisurely, shrugging his shoulders. “They sent me a script during casting deliberations and I turned it down.”
“What?” James sits up straighter abruptly. “Shut up, you’re lying.”
“Not at all, actually. They wanted me to play Richie, didn’t really feel like it.”
“‘Didn’t really feel like it,’” James repeats in a mocking mumble.
“Wasn’t a huge fan of the ending. One of the Act 3 twists felt a bit predictable to me,” Regulus mutters.
“You kill me sometimes,” James snorts.
Regulus rolls his eyes, but the edges of his mouth twitch amusedly. “It’s a Scream movie, James. They literally follow a template. Especially with five, they intentionally reverted back to a lot of the original formula. It’s like the whole point.”
“And you didn’t want the chance to be a part of one of the most popular horror franchises ever? You?” James lifts both brows at him.
Regulus shrugs again. “Only reason I would have done it was to meet and work with Mason Gooding. He’s lovely.”
James pinches at his calf, earning a huffed laugh in return. “Don’t tease me with your consistent ability to flirt with pretty actors.”
“I am a pretty actor. You flirt with me all the time,” Regulus points out.
“That’s different.”
Scream clearly forgotten for the moment, Regulus sets his phone down and sits up from leaning against the arm of the couch to be able to press his bent elbow into the pillow on his lap, chin falling against his palm.
“Explain that logic to me,” He says.
“Well, you’re my best friend and bandmate’s little brother. I already knew of you before you moved up from indie film and became an A-list movie star. And you were like, obsessed with me the moment you met me.”
“I was not obsessed with you.”
“Drawing little hearts with my name inside in your script margins after that first concert you finally came to, I’m sure of it.”
Regulus laughs and lifts a foot from across James’ lap to kick gently at his chest. James catches him round the ankle and tugs at his leg until Regulus wiggles forward enough to sit sideways fully on his lap, phone abandoned and slid between couch cushions. Regulus lays one arm over James’ shoulder, fingers toying with the dark hair at the nape of his neck. James leans back into the pleasant contact, smiling brightly up at him.
“We all know you liked me long before you were willing to admit it, love.”
“What’s to like?” Regulus jokes, wrinkling his nose.
James squeezes right at the not-so-secret ticklish point just below Regulus’ ribs, looking all too proud of himself when Regulus flinches because of it. “Watch it.”
“Or what? You’ll write another fake breakup song about me?” Regulus arches a brow at him.
“Could be another hit, you never know. The first one’s still going strong on the radio,” James muses.
“I hate you.” Regulus exhales a laugh, tilting forward to touch his forehead against his.
“Mm, I know.” James nudges their noses together, grinning lazily.
He brushes a barely there kiss against Regulus’ lips, only adding to the growing want that slowly simmers in Regulus’ stomach.
The moment is shattered by the sound of a scream from the TV that has both of their attentions turning back to the movie they’ve neglected. It’s the penultimate scene now, Regulus recognizes; the characters on screen are arguing, slowly piecing together who they think the killer is before the actual reveal. Then there’s a single line of specific dialogue delivered; he hears James gasp just before the gunshot that immediately follows.
“Shut up, that’s who the killer is?”
“Surprise.”
“No fucking way. And you didn’t like that twist?”
Regulus hums, leaning his head sideways against James’ collarbone and watching the chaos of the scene unfold. “It’s the second twist that I saw coming. Give it a minute or two.”
“Damn, I was really hoping we were going a different direction here, but now I’m invested again.” James rubs up and down Regulus’ back in a smooth glide, slipping beneath Regulus’ shirt to drag his warm palm over his skin absently.
“You’ll make it up to me, I’m sure,” Regulus comments. “Or, I could just spoil the whole ending for you.”
“No, shut up, don’t you dare.”
Regulus lets out another quiet laugh and tilts upward to leave a quick kiss against the line of James’ jaw before settling comfortably against him to finish the movie, spoiler free.

Is ‘Personal Trainer’ something you guys would want to become a regular thing??? The feedback on it has been so outstandingly lovely<33 like if he was a permanent fixture on the blog instead of just a lil mini series and I’d just write about him forever and ever and ever ????
How do we feel about that???
