choking on sea salt
chapter 1, chapter 2 part one, chapter 2 part two
genre . gothic horror, folk horror
status . outlining, drafting
tag . #choking on sea salt
a fishing village with a foggy history. whispers and visions of century-old evils. unexplained shipwrecks and an ocean no one is permitted to step foot near.
if you're a fan of vengeful sirens, feminine rage, or the concept of "coastal gothic" (in the same vein as southern gothic), then choking on sea salt may draw your interest...
Tumblr media
summary .
sadie is a young journalist intending only to study the history of a remote fishing village. upon her arrival, however, the residents are distrustful and avoidant of her questions. it is forbidden to step onto the beaches or into the water, and the ocean elicits a visceral fear in the locals. more notably, though, is the startling lack of women, and sadie’s attempts to speak with the few women present are repeatedly thwarted or outright denied. sadie’s suspicions are growing, her notebook contains more questions than answers, and the eerie song echoing through the night is drawing her closer and closer to the ocean – and the century-old evils that lie in wait beneath it.
please let me know if anyone would like to be added to the tag list for posts about this wip!

synopsis!
Noe Crane is on his way to becoming a household name in his hometown of Las Glorias, California. His investigative talk show, Exposé, is known for delving deep into people involved in the ins and outs of the city, from obnoxious internet celebrities to ex-convicts and criminals. As a host, Noe himself assumes a rather eccentric—if not slightly controversial—persona on camera: witty, intensely brutal, and above all, an insatiable appetite for the truth. What the public doesn’t know, however, is that his quest for justice continues behind closed doors, as he partners up with his longtime acquaintance, Azra Moyer, becoming violent vigilantes hiding in the shadows. With the help of Noe’s mysterious ability to conjure and manipulate fire, they’d stop at nothing to cleanse the city of all evil and leave no trace behind, allowing them to tread safely between their two lives. But their work is jeopardised when a figure from the past comes back into their lives, reminding them of the days they thought they’ve left behind. Noe soon finds great danger lying ahead of his twisted sense of justice, and as he taps into his powers and how they came to be, he will discover that his perception of “evil” may have already overlapped with his existence itself.

azra moyer || he/him. born 1991. deuteragonist. a reserved, highly intelligent criminal attorney with an impressive track record despite his relatively young age. he's a longtime acquaintance of noe, having known each other since their childhood, and acts as his right-hand man and confidant as vigilantes. while he's deemed trustworthy enough by noe, azra has his own secret to hide—one he will take to the grave if he must.
jesse shim || he/him. born 1991. antagonist. a mysterious figure who resurfaces in noe's and azra's lives after being presumed dead for two decades. he claims to be a social worker who has just moved back to las glorias after being away for two decades and shows great interest in reconnecting as long lost friends, but is that truly his goal in approaching them?

Writeblr Intro circa 2024
Hi writeblr!! Sooo, I've been around here since about 2014. (Yes, I am ancient.) However, I've been dormant for the past 4-5 years. Blame college and a brief stint on Twitter. Now that I'm active again, I thought I should make an updated writeblr intro so ppl know my Deal. Basically, I want to engage with other folks who write fiction (esp original SF), and that's a little easier if I have a clear post that outlines what I do. Here to make connections and hear about your blorbos :)
About me
Hi, I'm Vee! They/them, 23, 💖 🤍 🧡
I do journalism/comms in western New York
My literary jam is feminist/adult SF and gothic lit (OG or modern) 🥀 ⚔️ 🌙
Enthusiastic about gay people, body horror, and sociopolitical allegories
I cook, run, play tabletop games, and occasionally draw. Other than that, I'm mostly writing (for work and for fun)
If you were on pre-2020 writeblr, you likely know me from my eight billion daily tag games. (I still like tag games and appreciate u for tagging me. I have also gained adult responsibilities and better mental health, so I respond very slowly now. <3)
Always happy to get asks or dms, tho as I've noted: I may reply slowly.
Sometimes open to beta read! I only read one longer project at a time, but it's always super fun :)
I tag very consistently – happy to tag triggers for followers/moots
Fun fact: I love mushroom hunting and worked as a mycology TA. #cottagecoreera 🍄 🧚‍♀️ 🌱
About my creative writing
I write,,,, feminist/adult SF with gothic leanings (surprise!)
Longform and short! Trying to do more short writing this year, and I'll likely share a bit on Tumblr. It's easier to clip a short story than a 150k novel, god bless.
The Aesthetic: moral g(r)ays, Victoriana, androids/cyborgs, Women™, monstrous femininity, incessant Hamlet/Frankenstein motifs, extremely boring socioeconomic worldbuilding, evil queens and/or dilfs, psychosexual witchcraft, probably a cat. Also, an ominous, plot-relevant letter laced with anthrax from your unhinged and brilliant ex-wife. Open if you dare.
Major projects
I'm going to be writing some short work this year, but these are the longer projects that I have going in the background. If I reblog blorbo-related text posts, they probably have something to do with these.
Let me know if you want to be added to any project-specific taglists 😎
Heart of Lead – Series
The big one
Perpetually evolving
Never ceasing
Pls send help I can't stop adding shit
5-book gothic fantasy epic that I'll definitely publish one day but probably no time soon! My bastard child, my wicked firstborn, my greatest love <3
Character-oriented political drama set in a pseudo-Victorian, dystopian oligarchy where everyone's heart is made out of metal. It's about coming of age and discovering queer identity in a world that is absolutely fucked. God is an extraterrestrial lesbian who gives ppl very traumatizing magic powers. There are cyborgs, shapeshifters, and morally gray women in STEM. It's tight as fuck idk what else what to tell u.
Book 1 is about achillean monarchists, and book 2 is about sapphic anarchists. There are only two genders, I guess.
At this point, I've drafted most of the books at least once. Working to refine a lot of raw material atm!
Tag: "heart of lead tag" or "hol tag"
Lost Letters – Book
Aka the current active HoL WIP, and book one in the revised series structure
Length: 80k as of now; around 120-140k when the first draft is finished, I presume.
Genre: adult fantasy, gothic, noir detective drama?? um?? If you want me to frame it in BookTok terms (why?) it's a dark academia villain x villain tragic romantasy. Hrgh.
Summary: Cyborg soldier goes to college, joins a shady socialite frat, and falls in love with the jilted heir-apparent to the throne. Hilarity ensues.
(By "hilarity," I mean a militant revolutionary faction and a tragedy of Greek proportions.)
POV characters: Charles (the cyborg), Dale (the heir), and Cecelia (Charles' sister, a junior detective, the love of my life and potentially the Chosen One???)
This book is twisty and dark and immensely fun to write.
I'm about halfway through the first full draft! Hoping to share snippets and vaguepost about my children here.
Tag: "lost letters tag" (also "hol tag," tho that one's less specific)
The Last of Mortal Tourists – Book
The next longform project on the docket!
Length: a standalone work that will hopefully fall on the shorter novel/novella spectrum.
Genre: literary SF, cyberqueer, psychological space quest
Summary: The consciousness of a dead coding genius, trapped inside a spaceship, seeks a new planet to sustain their sister, the last surviving human, after the destruction of Earth.
If you're here to get wildly philosophical about gender and the myth of essential self, this is the story for you! That's why I'm writing it, lol. 🏳️‍⚧️ 🚀 🤖
This one started out as a short story (100% finished) which I want to expand.
POV: Archer Alto, the coder. Spaceship? Human? Soul?
Supporting Cast: Pandora, the last human, and Abby, a holographic impression of Archer's childhood consciousness
Tag: "the last of mortal tourists tag" or "tlomt tag"
If you read all this way, you get a whole bouquet of flowers that are certainly NOT poisonous: 🌸 🌹 💐 🥀 🌺

Project Introduction
TitleThe Last Normal Night on Earth
Genre horror (adult)
The last normal summer of Brit Moss’s life was a shitty summer, so she didn’t even appreciate it. It rained constantly. She counted, and there wasn’t a single day of July where it didn’t rain at least part of the day.
The Last Normal Night on Earth is an adult horror novel about finding out that dealing with found family can be just as hard as dealing with your real family and the consequences of ending the world. Even if you (eventually) try to fix it.
We're in the drafting stage, so stick around for the whole story!

Rose Garden Project Intro
[Twitter Thread | #RoseGarden]
Rose Garden (working title) is a comic I’m currently working on the script for. It’s my take on reincarnation/time reversa/ect. fantasy romance series and the common tropes featured in them, but sapphic.
Intro
Victoria is the daughter of a small noble houshold in [insert generic fantasy country here]. She dies at the hands of her abusive husband and gets sent back in time to just before their engagement is settled. Victoria is desperate to avoid repeating her marriage and first life at all costs but as a young woman in this country she has no power over her own fate.
Oliver is a woman who’s fighting to get acknowledged as the rightful heir to her family’s title, being the last surviving direct desendant. As a close relative to the king, and one who has his favour the other nobility cannot simply deny her right, instead those against her cherry pick old laws and technicallties to prevent her from gaining her title (none of which say the head of a family must be man because it’s assumed to be obvious). Their center point is a paragraph in an obsure document stating that a Duke must be married, as both a husband and a wife are needed to take on different duties to properly manage a Dukedom.
Victoria comes to Olive with a deal to help both their situations: Olive’s opposition are trying to get her to marry a man so she does not have direct access to her full authority but the law in question actually states that ‘a Duke must have a wife’ so why not do exactly as it says and take Victoria as her wife?
My Plan
I’m 99% sure I’m going to make this into a comic with a 1% considering doing it as a visual novel. I’ve been slowly working on the script for it over the last year since I first came up with the idea but my pace has been picking up lately and I plan to finish a rough draft of the script to get feedback on this November!

Visual Novel Introduction
My visual novel, which is currently unnamed, takes place in the fictional world of Superficiem. It follows an MC who serves as the player's self or character insert; as a result, the MC will never be shown in-game.
You are royalty in a place called the Gladiolus Kingdom, and are the next in line to take the throne, should something happen to your parents.
Given that the Gladiolus Kingdom prides itself on having rulers who not only mingle with the public, but who also lead their army into battle, you have studied the blade with your royal guard and childhood friend, Liam, and are also knowledgeable in hand-to-hand combat.
Additionally, the Gladiolus Kingdom is blessed with both rulers and subjects who wield magic that is powerful enough to power many -- if not all -- of the kingdom's facilities. You are skilled enough with your magic that you are able to utilize it in tandem with your blade, creating a dance between magic and metal during any battle you find yourself in.
However, the idea of taking the throne is not a happy one, as you find yourself feeling overwhelmed by the growing amount of responsibility that you find yourself burdened with as you progress into young adulthood. Not only that, but you often worry about your ability to lead the kingdom in a positive direction once it comes under your rule.
On one morning, as you and Liam walk towards the dining hall, you idly say, "Do you think we could run away together?"
It was supposed to be a joke.
The universe, however, seems to disagree, and you find yourself plummeting to the ground of an unfamiliar city. People who are not your subjects surround you, gazing upon you with curious and concerned eyes. Not only that, but...
None of these people are human.

Welcome to the project
Run by @evan-is-screaming
This project used to be called GhostSpirit and started in like 2022. The past years have been full of worldbuilding and story that I want to share to anyone who would listen.
I want to share this world due to how much it means to me and how much fun I have adding onto it. I figure some posts will be dedicated to lore and others to the characters.
Have I mentioned RPG Maker yet? Im working on a third attempt to translate this would into a RPG. It works. The last time failed due to it being unorganized and balancing was .... Not going to be fun. With that said I have a project tracker app thing and im going to save any info I share here as back up.
All in all I just want to share my project with the world

project drakeswood; an intro
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"The beauty of the dragon was something that haunted Colette." introducing pr. drakeswood: what was formerly my childhood escape->nanowrimo project->current wip novel. ya medieval fantasy, draft 1.1, ~80k words. identity, change, growth.
In the thousand years that elves have lived on Pasithee, no human has entered elven cities and managed to tell the tale. André Portalis is determined to be the first.
Kyhrra and Alacor Dire have vastly different reasons to vouch for him, Corydalis Yanu wants him to themself, and Sebastien Prue wants nothing and everything to do with him. André has his own struggles to face, though, including navigating an intricate web of politics and legend. The present is difficult enough, but historians have to look at every angle.
Tumblr media
features:
elves elves elves, magic, dances and festivals, language learning, nerds and himbos, a singular dragon (1), a non-binary deuteragonist, an amputee protagonist, and some horses and birds (for good measure). no primary romantic relationships.
primary cast: these folks narrate, commit most of the atrocities, and are the protagonists.
kyhrra dire - she/her. elf of the arvidor clan. secret softie. "Kyhrra Dire lived as an ultimately selfless woman, with little regard for her own reputation or safety, who through a singular fall and winter learns to break the cycle and let loose."
andré portalis - he/him. human from the distant empire of fraunca. polyglot and history nerd. "André Portalis landed on Pasithee without a place in the world except for a single order, but Arvidor teaches him an entirely different way of life and gives him the space for it."
alacor dire - he/him. elf of the arvidor clan, youngest member of the arvidorian council. wannabe womanizer. "Alacor Dire’s responsibilities built and continually pressured him, but external conflict ultimately pushes him to make changes for the Arvidor Clan—but especially, change for himself."
secondary cast: these folks may narrate in a sequel, and are the deuteragonists.
corydalis yanu - they/them. elf of the arvidor clan. scientist enraptured with humans. "Corydalis Yanu was on the outskirts of social circles in Arvidor, but the arrival of Portalis and the tightening of deadlines allowed them to realize that there may be a bigger life for them than expected."
sebastien prue - he/him. half-human elf of the arvidor clan. quiet outcast type. "Sebastien Prue was comfortable in his own company, but the Arvidor clan changes around him, and he realizes it is a chance to make a change for people like him—now and future—even if it takes some work."
Tumblr media
this project comes out of a lot of things, but mostly out of my love for languages. using this blog to keep all of my rambling in one place!
in-depth character intros -> soon spotify -> soon 1st page -> soon

Beledrift Project Intro
[ Toyhou.se World | Character Profiles | #Beledrift ]
If you’ve been following this blog for a while you’ve probably seen me draw various merfolk or pirate ocs from Beledrift, but I don’t think I’ve ever really introduced the setting. Beledrift is an worldbuilding project that is some sort of mix of steampunk and fantasy leaning more towards the former, with no one central story but instead various vaguely interconnected characters spread across many countries and professions.
My current goal is to draw references + icons for all the existing charactes and write up all the info about them and their world that’s just sitting in me and my friend’s heads. You can see the art I’ve finished recently above and read a bit more about the characters and world in the toyhou.se links!
