Requested by: @shycollectionwolfstuff
Warnings: maybe like mentions neglect or loneliness during childhood bc of acting but it’s not really that sad or graphically explained or anything. Aside from that I don’t think anything but correct me if I’m wrong <3
Readers pronouns: they/them
Tumblr media
You thoroughly enjoyed working with ryan. You had similar senses of humor and it was rare to find an adult who treated you like an equal human even though you were a lot younger than him.
During filming, you created a special bond. And on the press tour, you spent most of your days together and the bond only became stronger. Having done two interviews earlier in the day, you were now onto your third. And sometimes it can get really repetitive and difficult. Ryan knows that’s discouraging for you, so he always tries to make it more interesting for you if he can. That includes spicing the conversation up with humor, or telling jokes, or making sure he has a different answer every time even if the same questions are being asked.
The interviewer walks into the room you and Ryan are sitting in for the third time. You sulk into your seat slightly, not particularly looking forward to this boring aspect of the press tour. You give him a big smile to try to hide the fakeness you feel.
“Hello, how are you?” The interviewer asks, shaking Ryan's hand, then yours.
“Never better,” You say happily. The interviewer smiles back at you genuinely. Guess it’s understandable why you became such a big actor who got to work with Ryan reynolds.
“Really? I’m tired as hell,” Ryan exasperates looking over at you, before mimicking your sulk in your chair. You sit up straight and raise your eyebrows, giving the interviewer an unbelievable smile. You were always taught to be professional in interviews and workplaces. It’s difficult to be when you’re around ryan.
“Long day?” The interviewer asks jokingly, looking between you and ryan. You giggle and nod. Ryan closes his eyes sleepily.
“Alright, then. Let’s get this show on the road so y’all can get out of here,” The interviewer says. It’s always good when you have an interviewer who can play along with a joke. Ryan sits up, content with the predicament.
“So, how long did it take to film this movie? I heard there was a lot of trouble with production time, did that affect your work schedules?” The interviewer asks, suddenly dropping his joking attitude.
You start to answer the question without a glance at Ryan, since you both would rather get the interview over with. “It took about four straight months of work to wrap. Production took a halt because of covid, but not even the directors were really working at that time. So from start to finish it probably took four months,” You say professionally. Ryan glances at you, then at the interviewer, “what they said,” he added.
“Right so, you two only worked with each other for about four months, or?” The interviewer says lightheartedly. Again, you take the question right away, “Well, no. Filming started before the pandemic hit the United States. So we actually quarantined together for a little while before we had to abandon ship and go back to our respective families, you know? But after restrictions were let up, we got back together to film, and then we both caught covid at one point, so we actually had to quarantine together for a second time,” you say, laughing, looking over at ryan who sat with his hands in his lap, looking at you with a proud and genuine small smile on his face.
Whenever you watched interviews or anything of the two of you, you noticed that he usually just sits and listens to you contently whenever you speak. He enjoys listening to you and being around you, and it makes you feel really good
“Wow. So, how was it working and spending that much time together? You two have a huge age difference and I imagine it could have been like a culture shock, because of how different the two of you seem,” The interviewer asks, mostly to you, occasionally glancing at ryan.
“Well actually,” you start to take the question but Ryan cuts you off this time. “No no, you got the last two questions. This one’s mine,” He spoke. You look at the interviewer and smile, sitting back in your seat almost humiliated. You didn’t want to ramble on or take the thunder away from Ryan, and now you’re worried he’s upset with you or something you said.
“A lot of people said it might be difficult to work with y/n because of how young they are, but I think that makes it even better. I get to learn about them and their whole generation every time I speak to them. They teach me things that I never could have understood if I never met them, and I’m lucky to have worked with them. If you keep working with the same people… like Hugh Jackman for example… ugh, hate that guy. Anyways, it’ll get boring. But with y/n, they’re so cool that you never really get tired of working with them. And I would work with them again if given the opportunity. They’re one of the coolest actors ever. Cooler than Hugh Jackman, for sure.”
Ryan rambles quickly. You stay sitting back in your seat, trying really hard to not let tears cloud your vision. You’re 15, don’t cry over this, be mature, you think to yourself, fighting the cloudy eyes.
It’s just difficult for you because you started acting at a young age and a lot of people don’t ever encourage you or tell you what you’re doing right. People are so uncomfortable with being honest and usually actors are only in it to do their job and not create relationships or bond at all, and as a kid, or a teenager it’s hard because you’re already giving up a lot of your life and a lot of socializing for this. It’s necessary to have someone like Ryan in your life who isn’t afraid of encouraging you or lifting you up. Especially when nobody else does.
“Thanks.” You mutter, looking down at your hands in your lap. Feeling like you experienced severe emotional whiplash. You want to give Ryan a big hug and spend time with him, something that’s not professional at all. You can’t wait for these interviews to be over, but you remember you have to finish said interviews before you can be so honest with ryan. Unless you answer the same way he did, now.
“Well, I’ve never worked with someone as special as Ryan. It sucks I worked with him so early in my career because now No one will ever live up to the expectations I’ve formed because of him. He’s taught me half of the things I know and it’s been an honor to have him as not only a co worker, but a mentor. And even after the press tour and everything is over, I know the relationship we have will never be over. Because he cared enough to put work into me and I know he can’t just give all that up. He’s a narcissist so he probably wants to see how I turn out so he can like, brag about me or something. Always caught up in his own head,” you finish comedically to try to give your speech a similar feel to his.
You look at Ryan and he has tears in his eyes. “My heart.” He dramatically and jokingly says, fanning his eyes, then leaning over to hug you. You close your eyes and smile into his shoulder as the interviewer sits there motionlessly, smiling at the picture in front of him.
Two interviews to go, then the day is over.

How my role as young Kathy on Deliver Us The Moon (2021) affected my life (teen fame dr)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Note: Yeah I dun really get how movie production works and I dun care either. I'll probs change some this since I need to watch more TV though.
Length: 407 words, 2,271 characters
Tumblr media
Even though the game wasn't very popular, Deliver Us The Moon began independent production in 2019 and continued after quarantine. It was officially finished in 2021. After it was completed the production crew got bigger, so we were able to discuss what we should do with the completed movie. It was posted to YouTube before the company sold the rights to Netflix.
After I was discovered for my talent as young Kathy, I was given a few background roles in things like You Are SO NOT Invited To My Bat Mitzvah, and NCIS. These little roles gave me a slightly bigger opportunity in Secret Headquarters as Kylie Leonard.
On the set of Secret Headquarters is where I met my boyfriend for the second time, the first time is where I bumped into him at the local convention center. After we recognized each other we finally hung out for the first time, learning that we live fairly close to each other. After that we hangout with each other through the entire production, and even after the movie premiered.
Just after production is when my desired reality is set (mid 2022), so I'm literally meeting my boyfriend the first couple of times I shift. During Secret Headquarters, I also work on The Adam Project, auditioning for it after I heard my boyfriend talking about it. There I meet Momona Tamada and Abby James Witherspoon, who both make me very popular on TikTok for doing GRWM videos with them and Walker Scobell.
Because of my popularity on TikTok and in the acting world, I got multiple modeling jobs for companies like Miu Miu and Versace. Though modeling at Vivienne Westwood is where I meet one of my best friends, Emmelyne "Emmie" Laurence. I met Emmie online at first, living across the country from her, sadly. When we heard that Vivienne Westwood would be bringing her over for a catwalk in my state, I decided to go as well.
Netflix decides to make the sequel to Deliver Us The Moon, based on the games sequel Deliver Us Mars. Though, Deliver Us Mars ends up being a TV show, a Netflix Original. The sequel ends up being more successful than the first movie, it comes out in 2023 on November 8th. The movie and show make the games much more popular, making me begin to stream the games on my Twitch channel or my YouTube channel with my friends or sometimes alone.
Tumblr media
Aight. I dun really like this but I need to post it already.

OQM Playlist : Life during quarantine #8
Tumblr media
Ian Curtis by Karstein Volle Nick Triani presents another quarantine playlist while looking back at his own experience with the band Joy Division and their singer Ian Curtis, who died 40 years ago this week Covid-19 has more than any recent time given a new perspective of our pasts, a new way of appreciating what has come before in freer times. 40 years is a long time in anyone’s life. For me it’s that long since I fully immersed myself into post-punk and a counter culture that remains all consuming. My professional and personal careers have entwined – I’ve been in a position where my main interest in life, music, has also been my main vocation. That sure is privileged, but counter to this I certainly don’t take being ‘in’ music for granted and never will. It’s a fickle passion for sure and my own ups and downs have taught me much.
Tumblr media
1980 marks an extra special coming of age for me personally. The signs were there earlier of course. By the time I was 13 in 1979, I’d met a bunch of like-minded souls in the school playground. Fans of John Peel, Two Tone Records, The Jam, the music weeklies and punk culture in general. We would all go on to form bands and play music together. We had one thing in common, we were different from other kids – we were non-conformists, weird and quirky, opinions formed by the music we revelled in.
It was a time when the musical obsession got deeper and more relevant to my own teenage experience. This bout of personal nostalgia for events long gone is brought on by the almost universal media coverage of the 40th anniversary of Ian Curtis‘s death, which was everywhere this past Monday (May 18th 2020). It felt strange to witness to be honest and highlighted what a commercial endeavor Joy Divisionhave become over the years, confirmed in recent times with duvet covers and Converse trainers adorned with their Unknown Pleasures album artwork. Through all the eulogies and critical consensus the Joy Division story has accrued over time there has been an element of that storytelling normalising Joy Division and Curtis.
Tumblr media
It’s not really how I remember it as a 14-year-old looking for answers in my bedroom all those years ago. Curtis’ lyrics certainly fuelled my teen angst with tales of the macabre or of a dystopian Thatcher-inspired British landscape. But more tellingly Curtis’ lyrics always deflected back to his own personal struggles. This personal lyrical perspective cut through the unconventional sound of the band and to some degree humanized the Joy Division experience.
Joy Division were genuinely strange sounding – like nothing that came before or since. No one had written lyrics like Curtis, so bleak and dark yet so prescient. But even more, producer Martin Hannett managed to reinvent a sound with the basic three piece ingredients of rock n roll; drums, bass and guitar. No reinvention of those basic elements has been so startling or effective since.
Tumblr media
Joy Division’s music is cold and can be hard work in its most daring experiments. Hannett is no stranger to visiting the finite no-go areas of the effect palette. Align the unconventional production to Stephen Morris‘s original, yet unusual drum patterns, Peter Hook‘s unique bass strumming and Bernard Sumner‘s opaque guitar shapes and Joy Division sound alien at core. You only have to hear the effects Hannett would adorn Curtis’ voice with, that voice would suffer from a use of obfuscate effects, which merely made the listener dig deeper to engage and connect whilst similarly being held at arm’s length. In most cases, Joy Division’s music is considerably uncommercial and abnormal; this is music that asks a lot of the listener.
There was also the sense of mystery surrounding the band. The lack of credits, the elegiac and beautiful artwork designs of Peter Saville that perfectly complemented the music. Kevin Cummins original iconic monochrome photography, which accentuated the 1940s charity store attire the band sported.  No one else dressed like this at the time. Reading Paul Morley‘s deep analysis of the band back in the day embellished what would become the mythical, but also, thankfully, failed to reveal too much. However much the past 40 years has stripped away at the heart of Joy Division, the music has withstood scrutiny. The music remains unaffected and still frozen in some ‘all future music will sound like this one day’ bubble. You can try and convince everyone that it was four young daft lads from Salford making this strange music, but you still can’t shatter that veneer of weirdness that Joy Division’s music delivers.
Tumblr media
Closer was the album I indulged with the most in 1980 – a record that remains strangely dignified to the events surrounding its release. Like any of the previous Joy Division releases, Closer represented another step forward and evolution in sound – but this time with an extra layer of dark, personal insight, combined with the added benefit of a heavy hindsight. I got lost in this album.
Joy Division are an antithesis of the 2020 know-all and reveal-all of popular culture. Acknowledging this merely enhances a feeling of cognitive dissonance of how the band have been embraced by a mainstream audience. This week people were personalizing their own experiences with Joy Division lyrics on social media. I’ve also seen a man wearing a Joy Division t-shirt in my local supermarket in Helsinki. Tragedy creates special intrigue and draws people in. For me Joy Division represent that point in time where we got a new dose of cultural weirdness, a cold abstract and beautiful thing representing something we’d never really considered before: dissociative popular music that goes to the dark heart of who we really are.

How did Youth Culture become a lifestyle?
Gabriela Bezerra
As Youth Culture became less strictly gang-oriented, the lines of an age limit for that culture became blurred, and Youth Culture turned into part of a lifestyle, apart from a lifestage.
The concept of youth and teenagers, as a transition between childhood and adulthood didn’t exist until the 20th century. Events like shifting from an agricultural economy to mass-production industries, which did not require specialized workers, in the U.S and some European countries or the post-war economic boom in the later half of the century. However, Youth Culture was not always the main pop culture and mass media products we see today, though they were often generalized as one group with one culture.
Teen Revolution with the rise of the mass media, consumerism, which, for teenagers who had an income, shifted from necessities to leisure products, and American influence all contribute to the consolidation of the Generation Gap. American music genres, like Rock ‘n’ Roll, were spread worldwide and had a big influence in other countries. Starting in the 1960’s Youth Culture was very gang-oriented, with many subcultures and countercultures to it, like Hippies. In the 1970’s there was the rise of more controversy and political movements, like the Punks, that had bands like The Sex Pistols as representatives of Punk Rock in the music industry, or Glam Rock, that had David Bowie as a representative in media, and explored and challenged sexual and gender identities and fluidity, something that continued being part of Youth Culture throughout the years.
We see a pop culture and more generalized Youth Culture spread by the media in the 1980’s, when consumerism and American culture were at the forefront of the spread of pop culture, and the “good times of the 80’s” were shown and idealized by media and the music industry, in opposition to the unemployment the young downside of the social scale was going through. In the 1990’s the rise of Rap and Hiphop, along with street dance, street wear and graffiti reinforced the urban style and culture. In the fashion industry the Super Models in classy and elegant designer brands were the center of attention, and in the media, celebrities’ bodies, like Kate Moss and Gia Carangi, were idealized as a beauty standard, the Heroin Chic style, that was catered to young people. Pop girl bands, like the Spice Girls, and the “Girl Power” movement became famous worldwide.
The lines between youth and Youth Culture were blurred and, as the subcultures seen in the 60’s and the 70’s were picked as lifestyles by adults and teenagers, what became Youth Culture was the pop culture spread by the media, which was mainly served to the middle and upper class youth. In the 21st century, the development of social media, the easier access to the internet, we see music, fashion and beauty idols such as Rihanna, Beyoncé, Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift, or celebrities like the Kardashians. They’re actions, like world tours, music video’s aesthetic, clothing items, body features, or social media aesthetic all have a powerful influence in fashion and beauty trends. The 2020’s Youth Culture was very affected by the Covid-19 Pandemic. With quarantine and lockdown restrictions the only way to be in touch with many young people at the same time was through the internet, apps like Tiktok and Twitter made certain fashion trends viral, and, based on their algorithm, we saw the rise of different aesthetics and styles such as Clean aesthetic  Cottagecore, Kidcore, and the comeback of Balletcore, Y2k and 90’s SuperModel style.

What was the name of the kingdom in tangled

In 2019, the kingdom of Corona also appeared in a crossover in the game “Kingdom Hearts 3. It might be a stretch given many of us have been hold up in our homes for one week, but some are making the comparison. "When the (Corona) kingdom's most wanted bandit is taken hostage by Rapunzel -a teen with 70 feet of golden hair who's looking to escape the tower where she's been locked away for years - the unlikely duo sets off on a hair-raising escapade." The movie "Tangled" was released in 2010, and at the time was a major hit at the box office. A Disney movie set in the kingdom of "Corona" has suddenly become a hit on social media, making some question whether the movie foresaw the current reaction to the spread of the coronavirus.

Media & Information Literacy (A20)
Media has evolved to the point that anyone can easily access it. It has also become a very essential part of one’s life. One piece of media I use frequently is Twitter, I use this because I want to learn what’s happening in and outside of my country. If I did not start using Twitter, I would not have known about the death of Queen Elizabeth or other recent trends and news. I started using Twitter when the pandemic started, and I scroll through it during my free time.
There are a lot more kinds of media other than Twitter, like Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, and many more. But I think the most powerful platform is Messenger. The reason I think that it is the most powerful is because communication is a very important part in human society, without proper communication it would be incredibly hard to accomplish anything. A very big example of this is the use of Messenger during quarantine, without being able to see each other in person, people used Messenger to be able to communicate and bond with their friends and loved ones. Though communication is one of the many advantages of media, there are also disadvantages. A very big disadvantage of media is internet addiction, this is one becomes overly dependent on media and technology to the point where they are too distracted to be productive. Internet addiction is a real problem that is very common in, but not limited to, young teens.
The biggest social media platform in the Philippines is Facebook. Almost every person in the Philippines has or has had a Facebook account. On Facebook, you can share personal stories or news articles easily to your friends and families. With a large amount of information being passed around, it isn’t a surprise that there is a significant amount of misinformation being spread too. A radio is something one can find in any person’s home. When one does not have any easy access to any other forms of news or information, they resort to using a radio and tune in to the nearest news station. Though it may be hard to believe that even news stations could spread misinformation, it is still possible. News anchors can hide crucial information in a story to support their own biases. That is why no matter the form of media, one must be weary of misleading information. If you were to fly from the Philippines to America, you would notice a huge difference in each country’s culture. The same can be said about the media shared. Compared to the Philippines, America is much more open-minded, you can see this in the advertisements shown on billboards, television ads, and more. During pride month or black history month, companies change their ads to fit the month, but the Philippines does not have the same.
Media has become open to so many different people, and one can be exposed to a large amount of information and misinformation. In today’s world, where information and media can spread faster than wildfire, media and information literacy has become a very powerful tool one can use to navigate safely through a rapidly changing digital world.

Being A Father Figure
Sebastian Stan x Teen!reader
Requested By: Anonymous
If you are able, could you write something for a young actress! reader, maybe around 16 years old or so and Sebastian has become like a father figure to her while she has been in the mcu? Maybe she doesn't have a great life at home? If you are uncomfortable with writing this or don't have the time then that's fine too! Have a great day! :))
A/N: I realized I kinda changed it a little from the request but I hope you still enjoy it!
Tumblr media
-You first met Sebastian on set of Winter Soldier when you were about seven
-You didn’t know it then but your role as Bucky’s daughter would end up being an important character in the upcoming films
-On your first day, you were super nervous
-Not only was this the biggest movie you’d been a part of but there were so many bug actors like Chris and Scarlet
-Your parents didn’t like that you wanted to act but they still paid for everything and got you to where you needed to be
-They didn’t want to be on set or travel with you so your agent was pretty much your guardian when filming
-After she had introduced you to everyone, you felt really overwhelmed and out of place
-You went back to your trailer, which was the only place you could be left alone
-You felt so small and so out of place that you were considering to quit after this
-You probably would have if it wasn’t for Sebastian
-He realized he hadn’t seen you in a while and had a feeling you were probably freaked out
-He had watched you when you were being introduced to everyone and he could tell you were uncomfortable
- He went to your trailer and knocked, hearing a soft “come in” after
-You were sitting on the couch and he could tell you were trying hard not to cry
-Your cheeks were red and your eyes were puffy
-He sat down on the chair across from you and talked to you about everything that was bugging you
-After that moment, he decided he was going to take you under his wing on and off set
-After that movie, Sebastian offered to take you a bunch of places and to watch over you when your parents couldn’t
-You two got closed while doing press and filming your other Marvel projects
-Once you hit high school, Sebastian could sense you were more stressed out and anxious than ever before
-Your parents had become more distant than before so you couldn’t go to them if you needed anything. The only person you could think of was Sebastian
-You two were about to go to Atlanta to film Falcon and the Winter Soldier but you had so much school work and you were freaking out over it
-You decided to go to Sebastian’s (lucky for you, you didn’t live too far from him) and he let you cry to him all night
-He promised he’d help you out with anything you needed, School, friends, even mental health stuff
-Once you got to set and filming started, Sebastian made sure you were doing well in school and keeping up with everything
-If you were having a bad day, he did everything he could to cheer you up. Whether it was bringing you food, letting you nap in his trailer, or letting you mess with Mackie or Daniel
-Even if you were having a good day, he’d still make sure to check up on you
-When production shut down, your parents didn’t want you coming home
-They claimed they didn’t want to get sick from the virus but even when you offered to quarantine they still didn’t want you coming home
-Again, you went to Sebastian’s hotel room and told him what was going on
-You didn’t really have anywhere to go so he offered you to stay with him
-Your parents didn’t care so they let you
-While you were upset that your parents didn’t seem to care for you anymore, you were glad you weren’t going to alone for who knows how long
-Everyday during lock-down, Sebastian, much like he did while filming, checked up on you and made sure school was going okay and you were okay
-When you were able to go back and film, he kept to that same system
-Filming ended but you had enough funds and Sebastian had helped you fill out the paperwork to get you emancipated
-You were old enough and mature enough and like always, if you needed anything, Sebastian would be there for you, like he always was

Ok real quick gonna propose an idea for that powerpuff girls reboot:
Don’t
But it if they really must (they shouldn’t!), there’s some better ways I think they could go about it, as well as what I’ve seen floating around (like don’t).
Pretty much all of these are assuming they’ll go the gritty reboot route because that’s pretty popular atm. A dark gritty take on anything is getting a bit tired, I think people are more open to weird and sincere stories, whether they’re adaptations or original. But recently a lot of comics (good comics!) 10+ years old are getting faithful adaptations (good adaptations!) and reviving that early/mid 2000’s taste for “what if Superman, but bastard?”
Tumblr media
Aright one route they could go would be like that of Samurai Jack season 5 on Adult Swim. Written and animated by the original team and keeping to its truest nature while maturing it a bit along with the original fan base and maybe have an overarching plotline. The difference being that keeping it like the original ppg would create a stronger contrast with more mature and brutal violence, similar to Invincible’s friendly neighborhood Spider-man vibes and use of graphic violence.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This would be the second best way to adapt besides not doing it at all..... but that would also take more money and might not last beyond a season, ending with a solid conclusion like Samurai Jack did. Plus I’m semi doubtful the original team would be on board to drag out the girls’ story, especially like this.
Addressing the leaked script, a common comparison made was to the Netflix adaptation of The Umbrella Academy. Both are loose adaptations about child superhero siblings coming together after years of being apart, dealing with childhood trauma and their parent’s wrecklessness as adults.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And talking monkey.
Where Umbrella Academy made changes for the sake of depth and character development amidst the sci-fi madness, the CW Powerpuff Girls script attempted to be edgy and gross for the sake of being edgy and gross. They just want to be mature and topical while ignoring everything enjoyable about the original. It also just straight up sucks. I’m no writer but it seems like a lot of people who are writers are pretty pissed about paid professionals pushing this to the point of post-production. Well not post production, it was being filmed, but I enjoy alliteration. That’s also pretty far into development for something this bad, while it was rejected and is being reworked, it still got approved by enough people to shoot a pilot. If the leaked script itself isn’t a marketing ploy, I imagine that’s the real reason it was shut down. CW probably would’ve went through with it, otherwise. Maybe just keep it cancelled, yeah? Yeah.
This idea isn’t mine either but instead of the child star allegory, it could be more interesting to sort of see it carry on from where it left off, as the continued adventures of the powerpuff girls. Similar to the The Venture Bros. (a show I have not watched but know vaguely about, again this is someone else’s thought, I just think it sounds good) the girls can be grown up but start to realize they want to explore their lives and goals as individuals outside of heroism.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This at least appeals to me because you can keep the show’s status quo, keep the characters together, and have them grow into better more interesting characters as opposed to starting with a dour world where everyone is dead or just worse insufferable people. Instead, begin where audiences are comfortable and open to a new interpretation then let the characters realize there’s more to life and explore what kind of people they can become. (Or just don’t do it.)
Also just hear me out, but maybe, possibly? perhaps the professor was a good dad in the original cartoon? And let’s keep that? Let him remain a wholesome father figure? Is that okay? Don’t make this reboot? But if they do, keep him a nice loving parent?
Since this is the CW/ Warner bros who own DC comics, the best case scenario (cancelled) would be to make it more like the MANY SUPERHERO SHOWS THEY ALREADY MAKE. The good ones, anyway. I’m pretty sure the girls have crossed over with some DC characters in the cartoon already, why not make them canon DC characters? Maybe not. Could be cool! Better not, though. But they could still model the show after some of their better shows. Flash, Arrow, Supergirl are all not bad depending who you ask. I just finished Gotham, that was neat. Superman and Lois sounds like it’s pretty good so far. Powerpuff girls would better suit an earnest, straightforward, lighthearted take. Keep the humor, idk maybe up the violence to keep it dark and cool if that’s what people want (we don’t) and have it contrast with family drama like Invincible. All that to say that a darker, comical, well-written, DC-ish superhero thing they should look to for reference should be Doom Patrol.
Tumblr media
This show fuckin litty. It’s like the better parts of Legends of Tommorow and Titans put together, as in it’s super weird and dumb but in a way that’s fun and moving. I recently rewatched season one as refresher before getting into season two and dammit if it didn’t get me in my feels amidst the quarantine. It’s about broken people working through their issues and pulling themselves together to help one another. Admittedly, it doesn’t have the best representation of those with disassociative identity disorder, as one character sometimes referred to as “Crazy” Jane has a different superpower with each of her alters. The character is very much a product of the 80’s but the writers of the show do their best to show that Jane respects the alters and their free will. But it also deals with topics of abuse, self-image, trauma, disabilities, homophobia, discrimination, and more in a way that gave me some catharsis while watching after all that’s been going on the past couple of years. Aside from all the comedy and action, it all flows together naturally, which is what you want in any series, not just your gritty superhero show. Doom Patrol is also batshit weird, every episode feels almost self contained/ freak-of-the-week while still following the main overarching plot, and Powerpuff Girls is very much like that, without the bigger plot or mature themes (as it should remain, let it be). Many will find it vaguely similar to The Umbrella Academy because GERARD WAY WAS INSPIRED BY DOOM PATROL TO WRITE THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY. The og comics, not the show, but still.
Also let’s address this
Tumblr media
The hell was this about?
Anyway Idk maybe I sound like “Old Man Yells at Cloud,” but this really isn’t the way to go. Don’t do it, CW. Leave it alone, CW. Just don’t do it. We don’t need more sequels and reboot cash grabs, there’s plenty of up and coming writers with good original ideas waiting for their shot. And even with all those new edgy shows and movies, some of which are actually not bad, not everything needs to be so grim. Like sure Teen Titans Go! is a goofy reboot but it’s still just a fun dumb cartoon, it’s not bad, I bet that other ppg show was also just fine. Maybe YOU are “Old Man Yells at Cloud.” But what do I know?
And all THAT to say you should go watch all those other things I mentioned and some old ppg episodes back to back, instead. Don’t fuckin do it, CW

PEDRO PASCAL GQ GERMANY - OCTOBER 2020
Original text by Esma Annemon Dil

Translated by @thedanceronthestreets
Intro: A broken tooth could almost have been the reason for our meeting with Pedro Pascal to be cancelled - and with that our conversation about roots, his new movie and times of change.
Interview: It is almost eery how empty the streets of Los Angeles are under the gleaming sun. While Europe is finding its "new normal", people in L. A. are cutting their own hair even without being neurotics. Many of them have not seen their friends in half a year. The pandemic is out of control. So are the reactions to the situation. Inviting someone to a "distance drink" in the backyard can lead to the same consternation as proposing a relationship partner exchange.
All the more of a surprise was Pedro Pascal's immediate confirmation. To the drink, not the partner exchange. He is one of the winners this year - and if Corona had not forced the movie industry to go on a holiday, he probably would not have had the time for this drink. After "Game of Thrones", the series in which his head was squished, followed 2015 the leading role in "Narcos" as a DEA agent on the hunt for Pablo Escobar, and now the leap onto the big Hollywood screen. As of 1. October the Chilean will appear in the blockbuster "Wonder Woman 1984". Furthermore, the second season of the "Star Wars" series "The Mandalorian" will start in October with him as the main character - unfortunately underneath the helmet. But we all seem to be under the same helmet in 2020. It is this man we want to meet, who worked as a waiter in New York a couple of years ago. Whose parents are political refugees that settled in Texas, and one day their son decided to walk into a drama club in high school.
And then the cancellation. While we were preparing the house and garden for Pedro's drink and fashion shoot, which isn't an easy task under L. A.'s restrictions, his management called in with terrible news: Pedro has - no, not Corona - had to receive emergency surgery due to a sore tooth and is now lying in bed with a swollen cheek, making talking or shooting impossible. The sun shines onto empty streets. And our empty garden.
A few days later, he stands in front of the door anyway, no huge bulge in his face, but stitches in his gum. No limousine service that dropped him off, he arrived in his own car and picked up his makeup artist on the way. He helps her to carry in all the equipment and states first and foremost: "I've got time today!" What a star! It does not seem like we are about to ask him how he managed to become a Hollywood sensation, but rather him asking us that question. Pedro Pascal! So, what kind of star is he then?
Pedro Pascal: Sorry for ruining your plans. The operation was a total emergency.
GQ: Really? We were wondering whether the swelling was the result of a secret trip to the plastic surgeon. Apparently, because of the quarantine in Hollywood, their schedules are packed.
Sorry to disappoint you. A few days before our appointment I raced to the hospital with a tooth fracture and the worst pain I've ever felt - a hospital where the severe Corona cases are treated. I was unable to contact any dentists! Right before I parked, a specialist called back. I'll spare you the details of the surgery, gruesome. The pain was excruciating despite the 10 anaesthetic shots. The doctor said I wasn't the only one going through this, a lot of people grind their teeth at night thanks to stress.
What are you most afraid of at the moment?
The way the government is handling the pandemic scares me more than the virus itself. The lack of intelligent crisis management is a moral disgrace. The leadership crisis makes orphans out of all of us - we're left to fend for ourselves.
How have you spent the last few months?
With frozen pizza in jogging trousers in Venice Beach. I live in a rear building that's in the garden belonging to a family. In reality there are enough good takeout restaurants around that area, but for some reason I like salami pizza from the supermarket.
That doesn't exactly sound like the movie star lifestyle. What does it feel like to be forced from top speed to zero?
Considering the things happening in this world, my own state really isn't the top priority. But I would have to lie, if I said I wasn't disappointed. The entire cast and crew of "Wonder Woman 1984" put so much heart and soul into the production. We had so much fun on set. I had hoped to carry this feeling of exuberance around the globe to the openings of this movie.
You are part of a political, socialist family that fled the Pinochet regime in Chile. What do you remember from back then?
My sister and I were born in Chile, but I was only nine months old when we claimed asylum in Denmark. From there, we moved to San Antonio in Texas, where my dad worked as a doctor in a hospital.
Texas isn't exactly considered to be socialist utopia. How well did you settle in?
San Antonio isn't a cowboy city but rather very diverse with large Asian, Afro-American and Latino communities. In my memory it's a romantic place, culturally inclusive. The cultural shock only hit when we moved to Orange County in California later. Suddenly, the environment was white, preppy and conservative.
How were you welcomed in California?
To this day I'm ashamed when I think about how I let my classmates call me Peter without correcting them. I'm Pedro. Even without growing up in Chile, the country and language are part of me. I was quite unhappy in that place. At least I was able to switch schools and visit one in Long Beach, where I felt more comfortable. With its theatre programme, I found my path.
Could you visit your family's homeland as a child?
Yes, after my parents ended up on a list of expats that were permitted to re-enter the country. First, there was a big family gathering, then me and my sister were parked at some relatives' place for a few months while my parents returned to Texas. They probably needed a break from us. They'd had us at a very young age, had a vibrant social life, and my mother was doing her doctorate in psychology.
Was your mother a typical young psychologist that tested her knowledge at home?
You mean whether I was her lab rat? Absolutely. I can remember weird sessions camouflaged as games, where someone would watch my reactions to different toys. Even though I couldn't have been older than 6, I knew what was happening. My favourite thing was to be asked about my dreams. That was always a great opportunity to make up fantastic stories.
Was that your first performance?
Definitely! My strong imagination alarmed my mother, because I'd rather live in my fantasy world than in real life. I didn't like school. I ended up in the "problematic kid" category. At some point the subjects got more interesting and my grades improved. So many children are unnecessarily diagnosed with learning disabilities without considering that school can be daunting. Why is it acceptable to be bored out of your mind in class, when there are more stimulating ways to convey knowledge?
With everything happening in the world this summer: Do you believe that social hierarchy structures are genuinely being reconsidered?
Hopefully. After the lockdown my first contact with people was at the Black Lives Matter protest. The atmosphere was peaceful and hopeful until the police got involved and provoked violence. At least during these times we can't avoid problems or distract ourselves from them as easily as we usually do. It seems that the pandemic provided us with a new sense of clarity: we don't want to go on like this.
The trailer of "Wonder Woman 1984" represents the optimism of the 80s. That almost makes one feel nostalgic nowadays.
That holds true. It's two hours of happiness. Patty Jenkins, the director, managed to make a movie full of positive messages. We shot in Washington, D. C., then in London and Spain - which now sounds like a different time.
Do you miss travelling?
I've only now realised what a privilege it is to just pack up your things and fly anywhere. With an American passport you can travel freely. And that's why the small radius we live in now is kind of absurd. Over the last few years I often retreated in between takes, because I was always on the road and overstimulated. Friends complained about how comfortable I had become. We all took social interactions for granted and realise now how reliant we are on human connection. Now, I wistfully think about all the party and dinner invitations I declined in the past.
In L. A., people spend more time indoors or in nature than in other metropolises. Could this city become your safe haven after New York City?
My true home is my friends. Ever since I was young I've lived the life of a nomad and haven't set roots anywhere. Until recently, my physical home was a place for arriving and leaving and hence I didn't want to overcomplicate living by owning lots of things. The opposite actually: Without having read Marie Kondo's book, I got rid of all the stuff that was unnecessary and lived a very minimalistic lifestyle.
Is there something you collect or could never say goodbye to?
Books! I still own the literature I read during my teen and university years. Recently I found a box of old theatre scripts and materials back from my uni days at NYU. I can't separate from art either, same as lamps or old pictures. Furniture and clothes are no problem though, they can be chucked.
Do you remember any roles that were defined by their costumes?
Yes, "Game of Thrones" comes to mind immediately. During that time I first understood what it means, as an actor, to be supported by a look. I owe that to costume designer Michele Clapton. She developed these very feminine robes and brocade cloaks for my role that looked very masculine when I wore them. I felt sexy in them. And very important were of course Lindy Hemming's power suits and Jan Sewell's blond hair for the tycoon villain Maxwell Lord in "Wonder Woman 1984". Relating to the style, I couldn't really see myself in the role since the shapes and colours of the 80s don't really fit my body. My type is the 70s.
Do you adopt such inspirations into your private closet?
At this point in time, I'll choose any comfortable outfit over a cool look. Sometimes I mourn the days when I defined myself with fashion. It's a bit mad when I think about how, in the 90s as a teenager, I would go to raves; a proper club kid with crazy outfits: overalls, chute trousers, soccer shirts and a top hat like in "The cat in the hat knows a lot about that!" by Dr Seuss. Later in NYC I was part of a group that placed immense value on wearing a certain style. The fact that I only walk around in joggers nowadays is actually unacceptable!
Normally, actors who work on comic screen adaptations become bodybuilders and eat ten boiled chicken breasts per day. You don't?
My body wouldn't be able to handle that. I find it difficult enough to maintain a minimum level of fitness. As of your mid 40s, you suddenly need a lot more discipline. Until the tooth incident happened, I worked out a couple of times a week with a trainer to keep the quarantine body in shape.
What would annoy you the most, if you were your own roommate?
I can be very bossy. I have to gather all my goodwill not to force my movie choice on to everyone else. When I want something, I'm not passive aggressive about it, I attack head on. Also, I can get caught up in tunnel vision: When i feel down, I can't imagine that I'm ever going to feel better again. I have difficulty with seeing the bigger picture when experiencing problems or emotions. Method acting really wouldn't be my thing. That's why I try to only work on projects that feel good and where people encourage and lift each other up.
While you were trying on the outfits you pointed out a lack of self-esteem. How does that coincide with your career?
Isn't it interesting how traits and circumstances go hand in hand? Self-esteem comes from the inside, but it's also influenced by what society believes. We use critical stares from the outside against ourselves. I lived in New York for 20 years, I studied there and worked as a waiter up until my mid 30s, because I couldn't live off acting. It was always so close. The disappointment of always just barely missing a perfect part or opportunity is exhausting. When is the right time to stop trying and what's plan b? That's not just a question actors ask themselves, but anybody who struggles to earn a livelihood - unrelated to how much potential they have or how close their dream may seem. We are beginning to see now how our narrow definition of success is destroying our communities. At the same time, it's becoming obvious that, until this day, your family background and skin colour determine your chances of living a dignified existence.
What are the positives of becoming a leading man later in life?
I have the feeling that I've got control over my life - without the pressure of having to accept projects or be a social media personality. That surely also has to do with the fact that I'm a man. Women are surely pressured to appear quirky at any age.
Life is always a management of risks - especially at this time. For what would you risk losing something?
Usually, if you don't play the game you're not going to win anything. That applies to friendship, love, work, creativity. Anything that really means something to me, is worth the risk.
Wonder woman 1984 will appear in cinemas 01.10. The 800 million dollar earning DC comic franchise is moving into the New York 80s with its sequel. It looks spectacular - only Pedro Pascal with blond hair in a three piece Wall Street suit looks better.

Moonacre Week 2021
Day 1: Zoom/Video Call
On AO3: https://archiveofourown.org/works/31641653
“For next class, please read chapter 9 and be ready to discuss the social and political impact of the Norman Conquest on England—and don't forget, your essays are due this Friday. Have a wonderful day and stay safe!”
Maria watched, unblinking, as square after black square disappeared from the virtual ‘room’. Not even the professor had their camera on.
‘This meeting has been ended by the host.’
The zoom window finally closed.
Maria blinked.
4:56 pm read the time centered against the starlit wallpaper of her Mac book screen. She turned to look at her planner that was strewn over her bed.
No more classes for the day.
Maria fell back onto her bed with a groan. She rubbed her dry eyes, not caring one bit that she was smearing the little make-up she coaxed herself into putting on that morning.
“ 'Dress the part’ they said. ‘It'll make you feel normal’ they said,” Maria mumbled to herself.
She didn't feel normal, all she felt was drained. It was the start of her second year at university… and well over six months into a pandemic that showed no signs of stopping.
She raised her iphone. 4:57 pm. The locking screen was of her family. A picture taken the day of her nephew’s first birthday, December 2019. Georgie was centered in the picture, sitting between her uncle Benjamin and Loveday. Maria stood next to her uncle, leaning over his shoulder, while Ms. Heliotrope, their nanny, was by her side with an arm around her back. To Loveday’s other side was Loveday’s father, Mr. De Noir, and her brother, Robin.
Maria wiped her eyes with the hem of her t-shirt. It felt like an eternity since she last saw them. She missed them. Unlike her roommates, she didn’t move back home at the beginning of lockdown. She had just started an internship, one that was supposed to go well into the summer. Yet only 3 months later, she and the rest of the interns were dismissed, with promises to still receive full class credits.
With public transportation being the only way to get home, she didn’t want to risk her or her family’s safety. Yet day after day, her longing for home depressingly grew like the number of covid cases.
María turned on her side and clicked her laptop back on. She opened her FaceTime app and typed in Loveday’s name.
She propped herself on her elbow and began the call. As she waited, she grimaced at her disheveled appearance. Her red curls were in a messy bun, black mascara smeared around her eyes, her university-themed t-shirt was slipping over her shoulder. The very picture of a work-from-home student.
Lately, she and Loveday had begun a new game, ‘Fashion: Covid’. They would jokingly judge each other's "outfit”, as well as the rest of the family’s, as though they were judges on Project Runway or Next in Fashion. Maria smiled. She couldn't wait to see what Loveday would tease her about today.
“Maria!” A husky voice greeted, “It's been a while—”
Her eyes flew open as she slammed her laptop shut.
She scrambled out of bed and ran to her bathroom, stumbling over her laptop’s charging cables. Maria washed her face with cold water and soap, doing nothing more than smearing her make-up.
“Oh bugger...” Maria pried open her mirror cabinet, spilling some products as she grabbed her make-up remover. ‘What was Robin doing at the Manor?’ Maria hastily squirted the remover onto the cotton ball, splashing some on her shirt and cursing under her breath. She scrubbed her eyes, ignoring the sting of the remover seeping in.
She rinsed off her face. Grabbing her hand towel, she rubbed her face dry, and ran back to her room, diving right into her bed.
She opened her laptop. 5:01 pm. ‘Crap’. she took longer than she intended. Maria redialed Loveday, hoping he would still be there.
“Maria, what happened?” Loveday answered the phone. Her blond curls were tucked into a fish-tail braid that draped over her shoulder. She was wearing her uncle’s faded brown jumper from his university days.
“Hi Loveday… sorry my internet went down for a bit. You know how it is.”
Loveday nodded with a frown. “Your face looks a bit red, are you running a fever?”
“No, I—”
“Fever?” She heard Ms. Heliotrope shriek from the back. Maria was startled as Loveday’s camera began to shake, before finally settling a bit too close to Ms. Heliotrope’s face.
“Oh, my goodness, Maria you’re red! I must go to you at once!”
“Ms. Heliotrope, I’m fine! I just washed my face.”
Ms. Heliotrope narrowed her eyes, bringing the phone so close to her face that Maria could only see her forehead.
“I don’t believe you. If I take a plane, I can be there by the end of the day.”
“Hang on! Look, I’ll prove it.” Maria climbed out of bed and pulled out the thermometer gun her family had sent in a care package. Sitting back down in front of the camera, she pointed the gun to her head.
Beep. 36 C.
“See, I’m healthy. Besides, it’s much too dangerous for you to travel.”
Ms. Heliotrope looked crestfallen, almost as though she wished she had a reason to be with Maria. “Hmm… Alright my dear. Make sure you check your temperature every day and report to us any symptoms. Please take care and let me know if you need anything! I love you and miss you dearly.”
“I will Ms. Heliotrope, I love and miss you too.” Maria waved goodbye as the phone was passed back to Loveday, but her uncle intercepted it, planting a quick kiss on Loveday’s head as he took the phone from her grasp.
“Maria,” came her uncle’s gruff voice. Even during a pandemic, he was dressed smartly with his hair neatly combed.  “How are you doing? Do you need anything?”
“Hello uncle, I'm alright, thank you though. The care package you sent is not yet half empty.”
“Good, good. Only say the word and I’ll go pick you up myself. We miss you.”
“I miss you too but it’s too risky.”
“It’s worth the risk if it's to have you back with us.”
Maria’s heart ached. “Thank you, uncle, I’ll let you know if I change my mind.”
Finally, the phone was handed back to Loveday. “I’d ask how you were doing but it seems everyone’s done so already.” Loveday chatted away, telling Maria about how bored they’ve been.  How Marmaduke’s cooking expanded to include various intricate pastries and bread. She recounted with a laugh how only Wrolf and Georgie seemed to love their constant presence.  Though Maria laughed and nodded her head to Loveday’s words, her eyes kept darting to the background trying to see if she could spot him. Loveday grew quiet, she watched Maria with a raised brow and crooked smile, waiting to see how long until Maria noticed.
“Oh, er sorry Loveday, I don’t think I heard you. Were you waiting on my response?”
“Its alright, it seems you’re looking for someone else?”
“No, no…” Maria said sheepishly, “but earlier, Robin answered the phone. He’s back?”
“Yes love. He returned about a month ago but was quarantining at the castle. He’s now running errands and getting groceries for both of our families. I always offer to help, but he insists, and you know how he gets.”  Loveday bit her growing grin. “Do you want to talk to him? He’s playing with Georgie at the moment.”
“Sure, why not,” Maria tried to say nonchalantly. Though she never outright confessed to him, her childhood crush on Robin was no secret. But with four years her senior, Robin always brushed off any comments made about them, saying she was just his best friend. Once he compared her to a little sister. That one stung. Though Maria tried to grow out of it, even having a few boyfriends through her teens, that never stopped Loveday from trying to set them up.
The camera turned black momentarily before turning back on. They were in the parlor now. Robin was on the floor, playing with Georgie and his action figures. Maria’s heart warmed.
His hair was much longer and held up in a messy bun much like hers, though she hated to admit he looked better in it. He wore a black t-shirt with faded black ripped jeans. There were a couple of black and silver chain bracelets on his wrist.
“Oh Robiiin,” Loveday teasingly called. “Seems like someone misses and wants to talk to you.”
“Loveday stop playing!” Maria hissed under her breath, feeling her cheeks grow warm.
Robin jogged over to the phone with a merry grin on his face. Loveday flipped the camera back around, blew a kiss at Maria with a wink, and passed the phone to Robin.
“Hey,” Robin greeted. “Cleaned your face?”
“No!” Maria lied against the growing blush.
“It’s alright princess, not all of us can look as good as I did in smeared eyeliner.”
“Oh please, you mean that emo phase you went through?”
Robin stilled. The corners of his mouth turned up into a faint smile. He shut his eyes as he threw his head back and clutched Georgie’s toy like a microphone. “I got your picture! I'm coming with you! Dear Maria count me in!” Robin sang at the top of his voice.
“Oh god no! Not that song again! You were so annoying! I’ll hang up if you don’t stop right now!” Maria threatened through Robin’s laughter.
“It wasn’t a phase. It was a lifestyle! I’m thinking of bringing it back. Reckon I’ll look better with it now.”
“Ugh, your ego has grown along with your hair.”
“Wouldn’t yours too if you looked this good in a bun?”
“Please, I’ve seen better.”
“Oh yeah, name a few.”
“Chris Hemsworth, Ben Barnes, Jason Mamoa, Orlando Bloom, Timothée Chalamet—”
“Alright, alright, I get it. And please don’t get me started on that Chalemutwat. Such a sap, can’t believe that’s what girls are into nowadays.”
“You're just sore you don't fit the profile anymore. Face it Robin, the rock and leather days are long gone. It's all about k-pop and softbois now.”
“Softboys are just fuckboys with flowers in their hair,” Robin grumbled in disgust.
Maria snorted, thinking about the time he wore a flower crown for a May Day festival. “So, I heard you got back a month ago?”
Robin was walking out of the manor. She could see the setting blue sky and moving landscape in his background. “Yeah… The parks closed down. Figured it was time to come back home. I’m surprised you aren’t here.”
“Aww miss me?”
Robin shrugged his shoulders and looked away. “Want to see the gardens?” Robin flipped the camera, showing her around the manor grounds. As he walked her through, he talked of how covid affected his job. The craziness of people. How some thought escaping to the outdoors was the solution, only to end up trampling on preserved wildlife and littering about.
Maria had settled down, resting her cheek on the palm of her hand, she wore a wistful look across her face with a soft smile. Robin paused. His eyes focused on the screen, and he swallowed.
“Such a shame that happened to the park,” Maria said. “I’d be heartbroken if something like that happened to your forest.”
Robin cleared his throat, “Erm-yeah. Really annoying.” He forced his eyes back to the gardens as he continued on his way.
The camera stopped moving as he sat by a tree and flipped the camera back on him.
“You got an earring?” Maria asked leaning closer to the screen.
“Yeah, was thinking about it for a while.”
“Ooh! Show it to me.”
He brought the phone close, it was a black stud, with a charm of a red feather.
“I like it.”
“Looks good on me, eh?”
“Bring that ego down a notch and then we’ll see. How’s your father, I’m guessing he had to stop with his falconry lessons?”
“Yes, we shut down the school temporarily. The castle feels lonely.”
“I’ve always wanted to learn.”
“Really? I’ll teach you when you get here.”
“Okay! Oh, I took up archery—Well before covid shut it down.”
“No way.”
“Yeah, I can teach you that!”
“Sounds like a deal,” Robin paused, “are you really not coming back soon?”
“Oh, I don’t know. What if lockdown ends?”
“Don’t bet on it. Words going around it’ll be like this until the vaccine comes out. Give it another six months, maybe a year.”
“A year?”
“Yep.”
“Bloody hell.”
Robin frowned. “When did you start cursing?”
“I’ve learned a thing or two at uni. Even got drunk!” Maria said with a proud grin.
Robin’s face fell. “When was this? Who were you with?”
“Oh, lay off. You’ve gotten drunk plenty of times. Don’t forget about that time you broke your arm after trying to climb my tower.”
“That’s not the problem. You’re tiny. Were you with trusted people? Who took you home?”
“Relax birdboy, I was with friends. We went to a pub. I got tipsy, not black-out drunk. My roommates and I walked ourselves home. I didn’t even have a hangover. And I’m not tiny, I’m average.”
“Just barely,” Robin said with a snort though he seemed to relax back against the tree. “Never, ever, get drunk without someone you truly trust. And remember the pack rule. People are shifty.”
“I know, I know. I still remember your lesson before I left for school. Besides with this pandemic, doubt that’ll be happening anytime soon.” Maria told him about school. The weird things she’s seen on her classmate’s cameras. How everyone seemed to care less and less. She was over it all.
“You should just come back to Moonacre. Study from here. Even my friends are back, they’ve been helping me fly the falcons.”
“The gangs back too? So not fair. I miss them,” Maria whined. “I want to, but it’s too dangerous. My uncle’s the only one working right now, and the upkeep of that old manor is so expensive. I can’t risk their health. If I could get home safely, I would be there in a heartbeat.”
Robin got pensive. “Alright. Well, hopefully I’ll see you soon.”
Maria rolled her eyes. “I just told you that’s not likely. I already feel bad enough as it is. Don’t rub it in.”
Robin shrugged his shoulders, “Never say never. I should let you go now, it's late and Loveday’s phone is about to die.”
Maria pouted, surprised to see the clock in the corner of her screen read 8:47 pm. “Wow, we don’t speak for ages and you’re already wanting to hang up. I see how it is.”
Robin shook his head with a chuckle and a sad look across his eyes. “You know that’s not the case,” he said softly.
“I know. I’m only teasing. Good night Robin. I…I miss you.”
“Good night princess. I miss you too.”
The screen turned black. Instead of Robin’s face, she now sat staring at her own glum reflection.
8:49 pm.
She closed her laptop and stared at the photo collage above her desk. Pictures of her adventures with friends and family adorned the board. In the middle was one of her and Robin competing in a race at that May Day Festival. Still wearing the flower crown, Robin was giving her a piggyback ride. She was laughing.  They lost after Maria freaked out when a bee landed on a flower in front of her nose, causing Robin to trip. It was the last thing they did before her leaving to school.
Sitting back up, she opened up her essay and began to type. Wondering when she would see him and her family again.
…A few weeks later…
A resounding knock came from the door. Maria frowned. She hadn’t ordered dinner yet… It was probably some package getting delivered. Shrugging her shoulders, she went back to work, deciding to deal with it later... Until the knocking came again. Then her phone lit up. Maria glanced at the screen, wondering who could be calling: Robin.

Notes: I’m perfectly fine with a topic like that! Thank you for the request. I hope you like it!
All credit for the request goes to @the-quarantine-diaries!
I don’t own any of the gifs/pictures used.

Pairings/Characters: Sebastian Stan x gender-neutral!teen!reader (platonic), other Marvel cast members are briefly mentioned (not by name though), Scarlett Johansson makes a brief appearance
-> ->Warnings: Self-harm, blood, anxiety and depression, subtle mentions of suicidal thoughts; if you’re triggered by any of this, I’d suggest not reading <- <-
Prompt List!
Prompt/s:
3. “It’s three in the morning.”
6. “It’s not bad to cry. In fact, I think it makes people stronger.”
8. “Oh God, you’re bleeding.”
Tumblr media
You’ve struggled with mental illness for a good couple years now; starting back in middle school, and seemingly getting worse as time progressed. Depression came first, hitting you like a train and leaving you feeling like a shell of your former self. You were only twelve at the time. When the anxiety showed up only two years later, it left you feeling breathless, overloaded by your surroundings and the thoughts that rattled through your mind. Your mind was tearing you apart, and you were trying desperately to survive.
As years went by, you mastered pretending everything was okay, that you were perfectly fine even though your thoughts were crushing you, making you believe the world was better off without you but you were left too scared to do anything too drastic. Of course you couldn’t help but humor those thoughts, the ones where they’d send you on all these little imaginary trips on what life would be like if you weren’t there. It made you feel empty, void of anything. Then your anxiety would kick in, filling you with terrified theories on the damage you’d do to everyone around you if that happened, how selfish you were being.
So you thought of something to shut your head up, to give you some well-needed peace and quiet. Every time your thoughts started to overwhelm you, you’d get a razor. For every thought, you’d leave a cut. The habit started over a year ago, and while it wasn’t entirely healthy and you knew it, you couldn’t stop. The pain dulled your senses, making you forget why you were even doing it in the first place. You finally had the silence you desperately wanted.
——
“N/N, aren’t you overheated in that thing?” Scarlett called. It was the middle of production for the latest Marvel movie, and you had finished your scenes a little earlier than expected. After you got out of your costume and had all the make-up removed, you chose to wear an oversized long sleeved shirt and old blue jeans.
“No I’m fine.” You have her a smile, tugging at the sleeves of your shirt, as if trying to pull them down further. “I don’t overheat that easily,” you said.
“You’re lucky,” she said. “I’m either too cold or too hot, there’s no in between.”
You chuckled at that. One thing you liked about working with Marvel is that the cast always seemed so down-to-Earth. They were genuine, seeing each other as family. You had to admit it was refreshing. Compared to a lot of your earlier work, on TV shows and movies, one or all of the cast were... unpleasant. With Marvel, you were going to enjoy every second you were there, because deep down you didn’t want it to end. Your mental health wasn’t as bad; sure you had your days, but they didn’t seem as intense. It had also been a while since you’ve picked up a razor, nearly two weeks, an improvement in and of itself.
“Why’s it so big on you?” It was Sebastian who made that response, a teasing glint in his eyes as he approached you. He always had a blast teasing you, as did many of the cast members, and it always made you smile. “Makes you look even more like an Oompa Loompa.”
You playfully rolled your eyes, crossing your arms over your chest. You were the smallest out of the entire cast, aside from being the youngest. You barely reached 5 feet, while everyone else seemed like giants compared to you.
“You’re hilarious,” you stated sarcastically.
You and Sebastian were good friends, having clicked immediately your first day on set. You both came from Romania, with you having immigrated to the States at two years old, and you both seemed to have an interest in space. Everyone gave the two of you a hard time, calling you “nerds” and “dorks,” but it was all in jest so you both laughed it off. You both also found amusement in talking to each other in Romanian just to tick everyone off. It could be about absolutely nothing, but you and Sebastian found it hilarious. Despite your close friendship however, you still kept a lot about yourself a secret, including your own struggles.
He only snickered before responding, changing the subject, “We’re all going out to eat tomorrow, to celebrate our last day of filming. You wanna come?”
You nodded, a hint of a smile on your face.
“You wanna ride with me?” Scarlett asked. “It’ll give you a break from Mr. Winter Boo-Bear.”
You choked on a laugh. “I’m good, thanks Scar,” you said. You saw the pout that came on Sebastian’s face. He had a love-hate relationship with that nickname. Chris Evans has given it to him and it spread like wildfire and soon everyone was calling him it. He thought it was funny, but he also had to deal with relentless teasing as a result.
“I’ll take you once we finish,” Sebastian said, wrapping his arm around your shoulders.
“Fine,” you chuckled. “I’m gonna head home. I’ll see you guys later.”
——
After arriving home, you felt something familiar, a heaviness in your chest and your heart racing in your ribs. You rubbed your chest with a frown on your face. You felt your stomach knotting up and the intrusive thoughts starting to flood your mind. Anxiety.
You groaned, rubbing your face with your palms. You had been doing so well.
God, you’re so pathetic. They all know it, too. They all do. You act like everything’s okay, and you’re all happy and normal, but you’re nothing.
You shook your head, taking in deep breaths before letting it out. You couldn’t lose control. You couldn’t.
Do you think any of them like you? Like really like you? They probably think you’re annoying and that’s why they’re being so nice to you. Why would any of them be your actual friends? Your voice is annoying. Your laugh is annoying. Have you seen yourself? You’re a slob. They don’t want to be associated with you, but they have to. Once your contract’s done and you’re out of Marvel, they’ll never contact you again.
“Stop,” you growled. “Leave me alone.”
Worthless.
Pathetic.
Annoying.
Useless.
You ran into the bathroom, you hand hovering over the top drawer. Did you do it?
It’s the only way to shut them up.
Everyone will notice. They’ll start asking questions.
Do it where they won’t notice.
Letting out a trembling breath, you opened the drawer. The razor seemed to be looking back at you. Swallowing thickly, you wiggled you pants down to where your thighs were exposed.
——
Sebastian felt a groan bubble in his throat. His cell phone was going off. He’d been asleep for the past couple hours, and the thought of having been woken up was slightly irritating.
Answering his phone, he held it to his ear. “Hello?” he grumbled, his voice thick with sleep.
“Seb?” It was you. You sounded tired, your voice small.
“Hey,” Sebastian said, confused. You rarely ever called him. “It’s three in the morning. What’s going on?” When you didn’t answer, worry tightened in his chest. “Hey are you still there?”
“Can you come to my place, please?”
“Uh, yeah.” Sitting up, Sebastian threw his blankets back. “You haven’t told me what’s wrong yet.”
“I need to see you.”
“I’ll be over soon, okay? Just hang in there.”
——
Your place was familiar to the cast. They’d been there a million times in between movies and press tours. For Sebastian though, after that phone call, it felt like a lifetime getting there.
Once he parked in your driveway, he practically jumped out of his car and made his way to the front door. He tried knocking, but he didn’t get a response. When he tried the doorknob, he was surprised that it was unlocked.
“N/N?” He closed the door behind him. “I’m here. Where are you?”
He heard a muffled sound in the hall. Hesitantly walking down, he saw a light coming out of a room. A bathroom, when he pushed the door open. That’s where he saw you, on the ground, a razor in one hand and a small pile of bloodied paper towels near your stretched legs.
“N/N?” he asked, kneeling down. “Oh God, you’re bleeding. Are you okay?”
“I didn’t know who else to call,” you rasped. Your eyes were red and puffy, tears staining your face. “You always seemed to listen, so I-I... I’m sorry.”
Sebastian saw your pants discarded nearby, and when he took a look at your legs, he saw cuts lining up and down your thighs. Your thighs were littered in scars, some healed and some seemed in the process of healing. The fresh ones were red and a little inflamed, blood drying on your legs.
“What’s going on?” he pressed, sitting beside her. “I’ve never seen you like this.”
“I feel...,” you tried. “I just got all these... thoughts, and feelings and I feel like shit.”
Sebastian wrapped an arm around you, making sure to be gentle as to not hurt you.
“What do you mean?”
“I don’t feel good enough sometimes,” you murmured. “I get so overwhelmed, but I feel... nothing at the same time. I... I feel like you guys don’t like me, that you only tolerate me cause we work together.” More tears fell from your face.
“Don’t think that way,” he said, giving you a slight comforting squeeze. “None of us think that way about you.”
“I was doing better,” you exclaimed, a sob ripping through you. “I was doing so much better. I feel so fucking weak, and crying in front of you, I just...” You couldn’t finish, your emotions overtaking you.
“It’s okay,” Sebastian murmured. “It’s fine. Everything will be fine. I’ll get you cleaned up, and everything will be just fine. And you know what?” You shook your head, your shoulders bobbing with your cries. “It’s not bad to cry. In fact, I think it makes people stronger.”
You felt yourself crying a little harder at that. You never thought of yourself as strong.

How did Youth Culture become a lifestyle?
Gabriela Bezerra Ferraz dos Santos

TOP TEN ALBUMS OF 2020
Tumblr media
10. Women in Music pt. III, HAIM
Think back on all the flavor of the month acts that came and went in the 2010s, bursting onto the scene with a distinct sound and, inevitably, a sophomore album that proved their toolkit wasn't all that deep or varied. It was easy to imagine this fate for Haim, with the bubblegum pop rock of their juggernaut debut Days Are Gone in permanent rotation at Forever 21. That in 2020, nearly 8 years after their meteoric rise, they'd deliver an artistic declaration this varied and admirably strange is kind of shocking. You can hear the liberation of stylistic experimentation across the album as the Haim sisters let go of any ideas they had about how their music should sound.
Tumblr media
9. songs, ADRIANNE LENKER
With the world on pause, sequestered in a cabin in The Berkshires, time and space folded in on themselves for Adrianne Lenker when she wrote the 11 tracks on the aptly titled songs. Refracted childhood memories, tender observations on relationships built and broken, and stunningly ethereal ruminations on the nature of life and death coalesce into an improbably straightforward folk album that feels almost like a religious experience.
Tumblr media
8. What’s Your Pleasure? JESSIE WARE
What’s Your Pleasure? is often heralded as a glorious revival of disco, and it is that, but it isn’t just disco. It’s also classic R&B. It’s modern synthpop. It’s Prince. Jessie Ware’s luscious tour of the dancefloor tries on a lot of different subgenres on for size and they all fit like a pair of skin tight bell bottoms as Ware puts on her boogie shoes, lets her hair down, and exudes confidence and raw sensuality.
Tumblr media
7. Muthaland, BBYMUTHA
Trap at its most effervescent. Brittnee Moore is firing on all cylinders as she crafts a deceptively complex, hilariously filthy freak-out that charms with its saucy witticisms and insightful observations on motherhood set atop sprawling, immersive beats. The smartest, most expansive rap album of the year and it’s a debut! Look out for bbymutha.
Tumblr media
6. folklore, TAYLOR SWIFT
What a journey I’ve had with Taylor Swift. I couldn’t stand her for years. Hers was music for the simple, homophobic Baptist girls I went to high school with, not me. Still, the rapturous praise folklore received upon its surprise release piqued my interest, so I gave it a go. Listening to it, I couldn’t reconcile what was happening- why is this so good? Everything I’d ever heard of hers (admittedly not much beyond the singles) had been so wooden. So Wal-Mart. But this was stunning. Lush production you could bathe in. Complex melodies atop sparse accompaniment, drawing out layers of meaning in Swift’s lyrics. Was she always like this and I was just a hater? I went back to make sure and *Annette Bening voice* well, yes and no. While I’ll say I hand’t been giving her enough credit before, this is still leaps and bounds better than anything she’s ever done. Of all the unwelcome changes 2020 brought me, becoming a Swiftie wasn’t so bad, I guess.
Tumblr media
5. how i’m feeling now, CHARLI XCX
When we first went into quarantine, we all had that one friend we were particularly worried about how they were going to fare in lockdown. Oh, her? She’s gonna lose her fucking mind 6 weeks in. Charli XCX strikes me as that girl. Hell, she was regularly performing at warehouse parties in her mid-teens. Her whole life has played out at the club, surrounded by strangers and friends alike, lost together in the pulse of the dancefloor. But it turns out, being involuntarily thrust into a life of domesticity turned out to be good for her. Trapped together with her boyfriend for the longest consecutive period of time in their 7-year relationship, she sounds more content here than she ever has. The vast majority of these tracks are incredibly vulnerable, relatively straight forward love songs, not distracted by the frenzied production of A.G. Cook and co. but rather deepened by it.
Tumblr media
4. Fetch the Bolt Cutters, FIONA APPLE
In an era where most music is made with the expectation that its listener will be wearing headphones or earbuds, Fetch the Bolt Cutters demands to be played on the record player in the living room. It needs to reverberate off your walls and fill the room to the point where you can’t tell if the many household sounds that populate the album are coming from your house or hers. Fiona Apple moves with the trees in the breeze, but also the blinds, the floorboards, the pots and pans. She achieves a kind of symbiosis with her surroundings to create a world that’s tactile and buzzes with an always palpable, hard earned sense of self that she’s still working at.
Tumblr media
3. Róisín Machine, RÓISÍN MURPHY
"Fuck, I’m still unfolding” Róisin Murphy tells NME. So are the 10 tracks of the brilliantly titled Róisín Machine, the only disco released this year that a) actually sounds like it should be playing at the Paradise Garage, and b) pushes the genre into uncharted territory. Parrot’s production is velvet smooth, with heavy, rattling bass and synths that breathe, pulling its listener like a current you can’t fight and don’t want to. What a blessing to all the gays that discovered Murphy via Grey’s Anatomy and So You Think You Can Dance all those years ago to have this miracle of an album.
Tumblr media
2. Set My Heart on Fire Immediately, PERFUME GENIUS
The corporeal and the divine cross paths often on Set My Heart on Fire Immediately, a vivid symphonic vision that is, like Mike Hadreas’s voice, in turns delicate and coarse, evoking baroque pop at times, shoegaze at others, but feels beholden to nothing. After a near decade as music’s premier purveyor of queer longing, this is Perfume Genius’s panoramic opus.
Tumblr media
1. Heaven to a Tortured Mind, YVES TUMOR
Yves Tumor confronts stardom on Heaven to a Tortured Mind. Granted, they’re more critical darling than household name, but listening to this you’d think they were Bowie at the height of the Ziggy Stardust years, being dogged by rabid fans everywhere they went. This is rockstar shit. After the sinister textures of 2018’s masterful Safe in the Hands of Love, electric guitar becomes Sean Bowie’s talisman, unlocking a newfound swagger and fire that permeates every minute of this jagged, unhinged rock n roll triumph.
