Petition to make December 20 (aka D20) a new holiday, Yule for Initiative
In which we celebrate our friends, chosen family, and party members by playing TTRPGs rather than spending time with the blood relatives we kind of loathe as part of a religious observation we don't actually believe in

𝐇𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐲 𝐘𝐮𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐝𝐞!
I hope everyone is content, with their loved ones and safe.
My heart goes out to all those who cannot have that. I haven't spoken a lot about politics on my blog but I want everyone to know that I am Pro-Palestine, that Black Lives Matter and everyone should have a roof over their head and food on the table. There are many problems in the world, pointedly in Congo and Yemen.
I want to take the time to keep these people in my thoughts and hopefully bring awareness.
I'm also sending love to those who don't feel comfortable with their family right now. Who are in their rooms because it's all too much. I want you to know that you've got this. It will get better.

In Yule's character poster for DONT LOOK UP it looks like they removed a tag from the closing strap of his cap and made it match the rest of the camo print. Interestingly, Yule's scarf is a another camo print (blue, pixelated).

Serpent’s Desire
[ 𝐋𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐮 𝐦𝐲 🐍 𝐞𝐲𝐞𝐬 ]
Previous Chapter 2 Next
Read the update on Ao3 or here <3
Tumblr media
Finally! This was the very first chapter I uploaded here ( Chapter 2, for some reason (?) ) . I wanted to edit it and write it again, because Merlin it was a MESS and was badly written 😖😫 ( not that I'm a pro now ) and here it is! enjoy!
🍯 much fluff ahead 🍯
Ominis, on the other hand, felt genuine remorse for bringing Lorrain into this situation. He wanted to apologize, but his body acted on its own accord as he leaned in to kiss her again, shutting her up.
The thought of Lorrain Morgana being his date for the Yule Ball consumed Ominis' mind all day. He couldn't bring himself to leave his room, preferring to stay in his safe heaven and daydream about the evening ahead. Lost in his thoughts, he even practiced some choreography in solitude.
But as the hours passed, the excited chatter and bustling noises of other students getting ready for the ball began to seep into Ominis' ears. He knew it was time to start preparing himself. Despite Sebastian's constant pestering about trying out a new hairstyle, young Gaunt found himself looking forward to the event with anticipation. What would Lorrain wear? Would she find him handsome enough? Would she actually show up? Or would she change her mind at the last minute?
"Ominis! Are you still among the living? I need help with my tie, would you mind?" Sebastian's voice pulled him back from his intrusive thoughts. As he helped his friend with the final touches of his attire, Ominis noticed a small smile forming on his own face for no apparent reason. The excitement and nervousness of the upcoming evening were getting the best of him.
“You look absolutely stunning, Ominis. You deserve to have a great time tonight.” Sebastian said with a grin, eyeing his friend up and down. Ominis couldn't help but feel flattered by the compliment, despite Sebastian's usual teasing nature.
“Thank you, Sebastian. If only you weren't so annoying, I might have even considered asking you to the Ball” Ominis retorted playfully.
The two friends emerged from their dormitories to find the Slytherin common room lounge abuzz with excitement. The air was thick with the scent of expensive perfumes and the glint of jewels adorned each person's attire. It was clear that everyone was dressed to impress for this special occasion.
As they made their way through the crowd, Imelda Reyes appeared before them. They exchanged casual greetings before Imelda turned her attention to Ominis.
“Go on outside, Gaunt. She's waiting for you out there.” she nudged him gently.
Ominis felt his face flush with embarrassment at her not-so-subtle hinting. He resisted her push, trying to maintain some semblance of composure before making his way towards the exit of the common room.
“Why is she already outside?” Sebastian asked curiously.
Imelda rolled her eyes before responding, “Do you think Ominis is the only nervous one here? Men...” She punched Sebastian on the shoulder before heading off in another direction.
As Ominis stepped out of his common room, his wand noticed a lone silhouette walking in circles near the entrance. The figure was shrouded in darkness, but as he drew closer, Ominis could see the outline of a person. As soon as he stepped out fully into the light, his emerald green gown caught Lorrain's eye. It was a striking color against the dark, stone walls of the corridor.
They both stood there for a moment, their eyes locked on each other. Lorra felt her heart race with anticipation and with a sudden burst of energy, began to walk towards him, her feet nearly skipping as they echoed through the quiet corridor halls. Every step brought her closer to the person she had been longing to see, and she couldn't contain her excitement.
“Hello, Ominis Gaunt. ” she greeted him with a hint of shyness in her voice. Her cheeks flushed pink as she remembered their innocent but romantic encounter from the day before.
“My fair lady,” he said smoothly, “I’m sure not even The Mirror of Erised itself could rival your beauty.” Ominis mentally kicked himself for the cheesy compliment, regretting it almost immediately, and wondered why he kept listening to Sebastian's advice when it came to flirting.
But to his surprise, Lorra giggled and blushed even more. It seemed like his terrible attempt at charm had actually worked.
“How could you say such a thing if you don’t even know what I look like, silly”. Lorra reached out and took hold of both of his hands. The warmth and strength of her grip surprised Ominis as she gently drew him closer to her. One hand rested on her hip, the other on her shoulder.
As he held his breath in anticipation, Ominis was met with an array of textures that delighted his senses. The upper part of her dress was intricately laced with delicate crystals adorning the neckline and back. He ran his fingers over the smooth silk of her long gloves that covered her arms, and marveled at the soft and sparkly fabric of her dress, which felt rocky to the touch.
"May I?" he asked, unable to resist the temptation of seeing her face.
"Of course, Gaunt," Lorra replied with a smile, granting him permission to explore.
With the gentle touch of his fingers, he traced the contours of her chin, the curve of her lips, and the smoothness of her cheeks. It was like uncovering a beautiful masterpiece. Ominis felt Lorrain’s hair being carefully pulled up into a bun adorned with rhinestones, and a delicate diadem was placed atop it all as if crowning her beauty.
His words floated softly on the breeze as he whispered, "You are so beautiful..." There was no hint of flattery or pretense in his tone; his thoughts poured forth unfiltered from his mind. The weight of his admiration and adoration hung heavy in the air between them, tangible and raw.
"Thank you, Ominis. Y-You are too. I mean, handsome, you know? Oh Merlin, let’s just go please" she said shyly, taking his arm and laughing at their awkwardness.
He felt her body next to his, her soft warmth. If he could see her, he would have probably melted right then and there. They walked together through the halls, and Ominis took her hand into his, his fingers gently touching hers.
As they stepped into the Great Hall, they were greeted by a winter wonderland, with snow and ice covering every surface. Candles flickered on most of the tables and floated above them, casting a warm glow throughout the Hall. The scent of delicious food filled the air, prepared by diligent house elves. Tables were laden with an array of dishes, tempting even the most discerning taste buds.
It was rare for students to dress up in such lavish and elegant attire, but that night was a special occasion for everyone. Even the teachers had shed their usual robes for more formal clothing.
"Are you alright?" Ominis asked with concern, his wand capturing her elevated pulse.
Lorrain smiled up at him. "I must admit, I am a bit overwhelmed by all the people here. I've never seen this many in the great hall before." She clung to his arm tightly with both hands, finding comfort and protection in his presence.
Ominis returned her smile, feeling a sense of pride that she chose to hold onto him so tightly.
"Yes, it's quite a crowd. But it's quite nice to finally see everyone in proper attire for a change.”
She couldn't help but burst into laughter at his comment about everyone finally being at his level of elegance. "Oh Ominis Gaunt, don't be so rude," she scolded playfully.
After navigating through the crowded Hall, Lorrain and Ominis finally reached a small table tucked away in a corner. They sat down and enjoyed their dinner, chatting and laughing until the music started to play. Ominis' eyes lit up with excitement as he turned to Lorrain.
"Ah, my lady, I hope you haven't forgotten that I am quite the dancer," he said with a mischievous glint in his unseeing eyes. "I doubt you are ready to accept defeat."
Lorrain couldn't help but smile at his playful challenge.
“Well, I had a pretty good dance teacher, I’m sure I’ll be fine”.
As they strolled hand in hand towards the dancefloor, their voices rang out in laughter and reminiscence. They recounted their first dance together, the day they first met, and how their nerves had fluttered like butterflies in their stomachs. The music pulsed through their bodies, drawing them closer together with every step.
As Ominis lightly brushed his fingers over the intricate textures of her dress again, he couldn't help but wonder if Lorrain had intentionally chosen it knowing his fondness for interesting tactile sensations. The thought filled him with warmth and a sense of closeness to her, concluding she had done it just for him.
But as the room grew crowded with dancing bodies, Lorrain's usually outgoing demeanor seemed to shrink away. Her social battery was running low, and Ominis could feel her anxiety rising.
In a sudden burst of clarity, Ominis came up with a solution that would not only ease Lorrain's anxiety but also involve himself. They continued to sway to the music for a few more moments before Ominis leaned in close and spoke softly into her ear.
"Would you like to escape somewhere with… fewer people?"
Feeling grateful for his constant attention and care, Lorra’s eyes lit up with delight as he asked her to join him at the Deathday Ballroom. It was a place they had talked about in their night meetings, full of mystique and intrigue, nestled in the depths of the castle. Lorra leaned in close to his ear, accepting eagerly as they made their way through the crowded room towards their destination.
Tumblr media
As they entered the dimly lit cold ballroom, the sound of hauntingly beautiful music filled the air. Ghosts swirled around in a never-ending dance, their ethereal forms gliding gracefully across the floor. Ominis took her hand and led her into the center of the room, their feet moving in perfect harmony with the music, as they began to dance again.
With each passing dance move, Lorrain could feel herself getting closer and closer to Ominis. Her heart pounded in her chest as he took the lead, their bodies pressed together as they moved seamlessly across the floor. The ghosts continued to dance around them, adding to the surreal atmosphere.
As their dance gained momentum, she felt an intense warmth spreading throughout her body. She couldn't believe how close she was to him, feeling every breath, every movement as if they were one.
The last notes of the song faded away, leaving behind a lingering sense of longing and love. Ominis and Lorra stood embracing in the classic finishing pose for ballads, his arms wrapped protectively around her from behind. Turning to face him, she placed her hands gently on his cheeks, feeling the warmth of his skin against her fingertips.
Without his wand by his side to guide him, Ominis closed his eyes, trying to concentrate and sense Lorra’s body language.
“Are you okay?”
She gazed into his blue eyes with a soft smile before leaning in and capturing his lips with hers. Their kiss was slow and tender, filled with all the care and reverence one might have when handling delicate porcelain. As her hands caressed his cheeks, it felt like the gentlest touch from the purest clouds.
Lost in the moment, Lorra deepened the kiss, her lips moving against his with a passionate fire that had sparked within her since their previous encounter. Desperate for more of him.
Ominis' hands pulled her in closer, his fingertips trailing over the soft curves of her body as if to memorize every inch. The touch of her skin against his ignited a fire in him that he had only ever imagined. He wrapped his arms around her, feeling the weight of her body against his own, and he gently ran his fingers through her red hair.
Their kiss was unlike anything Ominis had ever experienced in his life. Every movement of their lips was a dance, a symphony of passion and desire. The taste of her lips was intoxicating to his senses, sweet and addictive.
Her hand went up through his well-combed hair, messing it just enough to show him a different level of ecstasy. Her touch sent shivers down his spine, making him crave more.
After parting the kiss, they were both left breathless and their noses were slightly touching. Their hot breath mingled together, creating a heady mix of scents - hers sweet and alluring, his filled with longing, with lips still parted, eagerly waiting to kiss her again if she chose to.
“ I-I'm so sorry Ominis.” Lorrain's apology was half-hearted, her mind racing with doubts and confusion. Kissing Ominis had felt so right, but now she wasn't sure if it was a mistake. What would he think of her now?
Ominis, on the other hand, felt genuine remorse for bringing Lorrain into this situation. He wanted to apologize, but his body acted on its own accord as he leaned in to kiss her again, shutting her up. Part of him knew it was wrong, but the other part just wanted to give into the intense attraction between them, his lips demanding more from hers.
Lorra smiled while Ominis was kissing her, knowing he matched her feelings. The ghosts around them were dancing to a new song, the floating candles were surrounding them now while everything else was dark.
Her arms wrapped tightly around him, drawing in his familiar scent and the comforting warmth of his embrace. It felt as though she had known him all her life. Like two intricately crafted puzzle pieces, they fit together effortlessly.
"Perhaps we should take a moment to sit, Lorra," Ominis suggested, sensing the tension between them. He reached into his pocket and pulled out his wand, using it to guide them towards an elegant couch tucked away in a corner of the grand ballroom.
They settled on the plush couch, their bodies facing each other. Lorra could feel the gentle brush of his breath against her face, igniting a flutter in her heart and heightening her senses. “Tell me Ominis, do you think I'm mad for falling so deeply for you in such a short time?” she asked, her voice laced with shyness as she leaned in closer to him.
"You could not have fallen as hard for me as I did for you already," he replied, his eyes locked onto hers. "From the moment we first met, when we first danced, to the first time I heard your voice speak my name, I was hopelessly entranced by you. Your kiss was just the final confirmation of what I already knew deep down."
Even without seeing her, Ominis could sense where her gaze lingered: up at him, studying his features with curiosity and admiration. Lorrain started to trail her fingers delicately over his face, mirroring his own actions from days earlier. He closed his eyes, basking in the sensation of her cool touch against his skin. It felt like an extension of her very being. Her warm breath caressed his cheek as Ominis parted his lips to say something.
“Is there something you'd like to share with me, Mr. Gaunt?” Her voice was filled with a hint of playfulness as she addressed him by his last name. He couldn't help but smile as she called him this.
As he looked at her, Ominis couldn't help but feel a warmth spread through his chest. Of all the titles she could have chosen, she went with that one.
"There is something I've been meaning to tell you…" Ominis began, his voice gentle and earnest. His words were laced with vulnerability and emotion, conveying the depth of his feelings for her.

👉 I'm honestly humbled that people actually read Chapter 2 ... it is honestly so badly written I'm not even gonna delete it because it's a good reminder of the progress I've made so far, but DAMN it is so bad 😂
👉 Same thing with the "covers". I'm not going to delete them... I'll just post them separately.
👉 I'm still a coward with coloring. But my babies here deserved full color for their date.

Malfoy spun and thrust a finger in Hermione's face. "If McGonagall wasn't forcing this interdepartmental support rot because of the Triwizard Tournament, I swear to fucking Merlin I'd—"
"You'd what?" Hermione pitched forward until they were nose to nose. "Decline my help with your alchemical transfiguration process this spring and lose out on your annual potioneering award? Quid Pro Quo, Malfoy!" She flung the phial of slurry back at him and he caught it, long fingers closing over the glass.
Hermione stood for a beat, chest heaving with the sharp poke of regret.
"Give that back." She held out an imperative hand.
But Malfoy lifted the phial up and out of reach, silver eyes glowing with unholy light.
"Come and get it, Granger."
Hermione, forgetting she had a wand or any sense of decorum, lunged for him.

For the holiday prompts:
26. Accidental drunkenness with Celegorm, Caranthir, and Curufin! Thank you, love your writing 🤍
Amazing prompt Anon, and thank you! This is also for @melestasflight who requested Caranthir with the same prompt and @grey-gazania who requested Caranthir + Ugly sweaters. 1.5k words, Rated T for a lot of swearing and drunkenness. These guys are awful. Posting these to AO3, here. Prompt list (prompts closed). Little context: Curufin owns a craft brewery and Celegorm works for him. Maglor's referenced boyfriend is Daeron. See Beleria Cast of Characters for the full scoop!
Curufin cleared their empty glasses and wiped a wet cloth over the bar. He didn’t usually like to drink at work, even after closing, but they’d tapped a keg of the new Red River Winter Ale to sample.
Curufin had been wound tight all month worrying that it wouldn’t be ready for bottling in time for Yule gifting — and it barely was. But it had turned out perfect: not too heavy, with a warm spice. He’d use the late release to his advantage, slapping plain handwritten labels on the bottles and marketing them to panicked shoppers as a limited release last-minute gift. They could sell the rest of the batch under a new label in the New Year.
That weight off his shoulders, combined with the loosening effect of the alcohol, had put Curufin in a light mood. But not so light that he fell for Celegorm’s suggestion to have another pint. It was a Tuesday, and while that might make no difference to Celegorm, he had to get Celebrimbor to school in the morning.
“How did you get here?” he asked Celegorm, who was mopping the floors.
“I rode the bike. Why? You need a ride?”
Curufin shrugged. He’d hoped his brother would say he’d taken the bus. He wouldn’t have minded the company on his commute tonight. A ride would be nice, in theory, but Curufin hated being crammed on the back of Celegorm’s motorcycle.; he hated being forced to cling to his brother like a limpet as Celegorm careened around the corners… but it was a cold, and late…
“I can take transit,” he said.
“Yeah, I know you can. But you just asked me how I got here, sooo.” Celegorm dropped the mop in the bucket and crossed the floor. “You’re obviously looking for a ride. I can drop you off, bro-nut, no worries.” His hand came down hard on Curufin’s shoulder and he jolted forward.
“I’m still your boss until your shift’s over, Tyelko,” Curufin grumbled. “So you can’t hit me.”
“Oh? I assumed my shift was over when we poured the brewskies.”
“It wasn’t,” said Curufin. He sighed, considering the pros and cons of accepting a ride—
—when the front door banged open.
Curufin shot daggers at Celegorm. “What the fuck, you didn’t lock the—! We’re closed!” he shouted at the intruder.
He was cut short by the entrance of a tall, black-haired man with an unmistakable red mark on his left cheek, currently dimpled by a broad grin. Caranthir gave a throaty laugh at the look of shock on his brother’s faces.
“Moryo!” Celegorm bounded across the room and smothered him in a hug. Curufin twitched sympathetically. “When the fuck did you get into town? Didn’t think you’d be here until the twenty-fourth. How you been? ”
Celegorm might as well have been Huan, yapping and bouncing around his brother as if they hadn’t just seen him two weeks ago.
“Never mind that,” said Curufin, “what the fuck are you wearing?”
He sneered, indicating the heinous sweater his brother had on: a chunky red knit that looked like someone’s first disastrous venture into a new hobby. Too short in the sleeves and too wide in the torso, with an awful depiction of a light-garlanded cat (orange, clashing terribly), snarling in what might have been intended as a smile but which looked like an oddly anthropomorphic grimace.
“Oh yeah,” Caranthir said, spreading his arms to display the garment. “It’s hideous isn’t it? It was free, though. Don’t get rich saying no to free shit, Curvo.”
Curufin rolled his eyes. “You’re absurd. So why are you here?”
“Got some freight I can’t take to the port until the morning so I’m here for the night. Then it’s back east and time to replenish my social arsenal before I hunker down in the trenches for the battle of Yuletide.”
By which he meant spending three full days with their family. Many (Fëanor chief among them) were baffled as to why Caranthir, who had been offered scholarships to pursue a PhD fully-funded by some of the best economics programs in Endor, had instead taken up a career as a long-haul trucker. Curufin wasn’t. It wasn’t about the job, which he hardly needed with his investments. It was about the solitude. Curufin could relate. Curufin resented him for it.
“Do Mom and Dad know you’re here?” Curufin asked.
“Hell no, and don’t you dare tell them. ’All’s they know I’m not here until the twenty-fourth like I said. Anyway stop being such a dick, Curvo — you should be honoured that I chose to spend this precious evening off with you.”
He, too, slammed his hand down on Curufin’s shoulder. Curufin withdrew behind the bar to shield himself from any further assaults.
“As if.” Curufin snorted. “You’re only here because Cáno wouldn’t let you stay with him. Tell me I’m wrong.”
“You’re not wrong.” Caranthir perched on a bar stool and grunted. “But fuck Cáno. He has a whole spare room now that he’s fucking his roommate, but do you think he lets anyone use it? Nope! He’s ashamed of us, you know. Doesn’t want his environmentally-challenged boyfriend knowing his brothers are capitalists.”
“I’m not a capitalist,” said Celegorm.
Curufin and Caranthir both looked at him incredulously, then silently agreed not to respond.
Caranthir slapped the bar counter. “What’s on tap, brewmaster!”
“Nothing, we’ve closed up. Tyelko and I were just about to leave. I have to get home, it’s late, and—”
“Nope,” said Caranthir.
“Nope what?”
“Nope, you’re not leaving.”
“Nope!” Celegorm seconded, and jumped onto a stool beside Caranthir. “Come on, Curvy Scurvy, pull out some glasses, just one more round.”
Curufin frowned. He worked hard not to let on, but he felt as much the baby around any of his older brothers as he had since he was— well, an actual baby. He’d been seven when Amrod and Amras were born: it was too late to rewire the psychological violence inflicted growing up with four (gifted, brash, adored) older siblings. And now Celegorm and Caranthir leered at him from across the bar with those taunting smiles, and his resolve buckled under the desire to please them.
“Yeah, okay, sure,” he said, pulling out two glasses.
“Nah nah nah nah.” Celegorm wagged a finger. “You’re having one, too.”
“No, I’m not,” said Curufin. “I have to wake up early to take Tyelpë—”
“Oh boo-hoo-da-loo,” said Caranthir. “I have to be at the port at six a.m. Drink, Curvo. It’ll be no fun if you’re just sitting there watching us.”
Curufin ground his teeth. “Fine. A small glass. And then I’m kicking you out of here.”
*
“… and then she says: ‘Yeah okay, thanks dude. You can leave now. I know how to replace a tire.’”
“What a bitch,” Celegorm slurred.
“What?” Caranthir said. “No, man, that’s hot as fuck.” He tipped back the last of his beer then reached across the bar and refilled it directly from the tap, sloshing more of it on the floor than into his glass.
“Yo, careful!” said Curufin, then laughed. He looked into his own glass, which was disappointingly still empty. Had he had a third? He didn’t think he’d had a third. No, he’d only had two. Or it might have been three. Well, he’d just have half to be safe. He dumped half of Caranthir’s pint into his.
“Hey!” Caranthir grabbed for the glass, but Curufin had already chugged most of it down.
“Sorry, gone,” he said, then gripped the edge of the bar as he felt himself swaying backwards.
“You know what’s funny,” Celegorm said, staring at the wall. “I have no idea why Aredhel is with me.”
“Oh god, please don’t be a sad drunk,” Curufin begged. He dropped down and rested his head on the bar. “I’m so tired,” he mumbled, closing his eyes. “So fucking tired…”
“No, but really, you guys. I’m such a loser. Why would she be with me? You know, I almost told her I love her the other day. I mean, I’ve told her that when we were together before, but I haven’t said it again since we got back together and what not and— damn it fuck, you guys, I do love her.”
“So tell her,” Caranthir said, then barked a laugh. “Or at least don’t tell me— I don’t give a shit.”
“You think?” Celegorm asked earnestly. Curufin groaned. “Yeah, I should tell her. Why hide?”
Curufin’s eyes squinted open just long enough to catch Celegorm picking up his phone. He flung his arm across Caranthir to smack it from his hand. It crashed to the floor.
“Hey!” Celegorm yelled.
“Don’t tell her now you dumb bag of dick rockets!” Curufin shouted, and sputtered over his lacklustre name-calling efforts.
As he stumbled to retrieve his phone, Celegorm said, “Fuck you, you broke the screen.”
“It was already broken,” Curufin lied. He snuggled against the crook of his elbow and closed his eyes. “Guys,” he muttered, “how we gon’ get home? I’m so sleepy…”
“Agh, hold up.” Caranthir bumped Curufin’s shoulder as he reached for something. “I’ll call Nelyo to come get us.”
“Good idea…” Curufin said, "Nelyo'll fix it..." and fell asleep.

REMUS LUPIN
Saturday, 24th of December 1977
The fire crackled beside us as my group of six friends sat in the common room. It was well past eleven now – everyone else had gone to bed, but the rest of us just had so much to do and talk about, apparently.
The Yule Ball was a popular topic. None of the girls would tell us what they were wearing, which seemed to infuriate Sirius – he'd always been a lover of fashion. Whenever it was mentioned I'd always sneak a glance at Y/n – just to see her already looking at me. Maybe they were right. Maybe she did like me – maybe I could ask her...
No.
She wouldn't.
James and Lily sat together on the couch – and I mean together. At the beginning, Lily had just draped her legs across his, but now she was fully sat in his lap, arms circled around his neck and hands playing in his curls. His hands were around her waist respectfully. His hands never ventured lower, and he'd even asked her permission for it. He thought he'd been discreet, but I could hear everything – one of the few pros (or one of the many cons, depending on how you looked at it) of being a werewolf.
"We should probably be getting to bed soon," Lily yawned.
"C'mon, it's not like we're gonna miss Santa Claus," James grinned. "He's not real."
Sirius gasped, placing his hands over Peter's ears. "Shh! Don't spoil Pete's dreams!"
Peter batted his hands away with a scowl, causing the rest of us to laugh.
"Hey, what if we have a sleepover?" James suggested. "Y'know, all of us?"
Sirius sat upright and stared at James with adoration in his eyes. "James Fleamont Potter," he gushed, "That is completely and utterly the best idea you've ever come up with!"
"A sleepover is his best idea ever?" Y/n scoffed. "And here I was, thinking James may have had a bright future ahead of him."
James scowled and everyone laughed.
"A sleepover sounds fun," Lily said.
"Well, since us fellas can't get into the ladies' dorms, it seems you will be joining us," Sirius said, winking at Lily, and causing James's arms to tighten slightly.
Lily and Y/n got up to get changed into their pyjamas and get ready for bed, and the rest of us walked to the boys' dorms. Regulus disappeared into the bathroom, and James cast a silencing charm before turning on me.
"Have you asked her out yet?" he pressed.
"Who?"
"Y/n, you idiot!" Sirius cut in.
I felt myself blush a deep red, and I looked away, rubbing the back of my neck. "Er... no."
"Why not?" Sirius demanded.
"I don't think she likes me," I mumbled.
Sirius looked at me like I had said the stupidest thing ever, and it made me want to hit him. "C'mon, you asked her to the ball, and she said yes! That's gotta mean something!"
"Maybe she just didn't want to hurt my feelings," I protested. Even though my thoughts travelled back to how she'd reacted – how she'd seemed glad, excited, even. But maybe that was just wishful thinking.
Sirius scoffed and James rolled his eyes.
"All in favour that Y/n likes Remus back and he should ask her out?" Peter suggested, raising his hand.
I glared at my friends as their hands all rose in the air, and they all voiced their agreements.
"Wait, you like Y/n?" All of our heads whipped to the bathroom door, where Regulus stood, a massive grin on his face. "I gotta tell her."
I felt my stomach drop, and I was surprised it hadn't fallen out of my body and hit the floor.
"You aren't telling anyone anything," Sirius barked. "Can anyone perform a memory charm?"
"Hey! You stay away from my memories!" Regulus hissed, covering his head as if it would shield him from the magic.
James stepped towards Regulus, "You understand why Moony would want to keep this quiet, right?"
Regulus just looked at James, assessing him, and I felt my heart drop. Regulus would tell Y/n, and she would be weirded out and never speak to me again. I could already see it happening, see everything playing out in my head... until Regulus sighed.
"Fine," he muttered, "my lips are sealed."
It was silent for a moment, before Peter piped up, "Regulus would know if Y/n likes Remus too."
I saw a look of shock on Regulus's face before he quickly schooled his features into neutrality and shrugged. "I don't think I'm allowed to tell you that."
"Reg–" Sirius started, but Peter cut across.
"It's a yes!" he yelled.
Everyone turned to him, expressions of confusion clear on our faces.
"I dunno how you came to that conclusion, mate," James said.
"Well, if she didn't like Remus, Regulus would just tell us, wouldn't he?" Peter explained. "Y'know, so you don't get your hopes up. And if he's not allowed to tell us, it's obviously a secret, which means it's obviously a yes."
Everyone looked to Regulus, who muttered, "fuck."
"HA!" Sirius yelled, pointing at me. "Told you so!"
"Shut up," I grumbled, flopping down onto my bed.
Sirius whooped and jumped up on his bed, throwing his head back and singing, "Moony's in love! Our Moony's in love!"
"Shut up!"
"Never!"
"I will hang you from the Astronomy Tower," I threatened.
"That doesn't sound very Prefect-like of you."
I turned at the sound of Y/n's voice to see her grinning, standing beside Lily in the doorway. I quickly looked at the others, unsure as to how long they'd been there.
"How much of that did you catch?" I asked nervously.
Y/n cocked her head. "Er... just your violent threat. Also you telling Sirius to shut up, which, I'm sure, was for a valid reason."
Sirius gasped in outrage and lunged for Y/n, but she sidestepped, smiling as she did so. That little grin was enough to make me smile too, but it dropped as soon as I saw my friends giving me suggestive smirks.
Lily and Y/n conjured mattresses for themselves and made their beds, before they both sat cross-legged beside each other.
We'd never had a sleepover before – at least, not with the girls. I expected them to beg us to do our hair or make up, but that never happened. The closest thing to that was Y/n yanking on Regulus's hair because he was annoying her.
It took a while for everyone to fall asleep. We were all so excited and eager for Christmas and the ball that we were wide awake. But no one stayed up forever. Peter was the first to fall asleep. I could hear him snoring away, so I cast a sound-silencing charm over his bed so we wouldn't wake him up. Lily was next, in James's arms. And then James himself, and Sirius and Regulus, until it was just me and Y/n left.
The moon shone into the dorm – it had been full a week ago, and it still glowed brightly, the stars glinting beside it. Y/n studied it carefully and then looked over at me. I felt myself blush when I realised I'd been caught staring, but the girl just smiled at me.
"What are you thinking about?" I asked.
Y/n looked at me for a moment, chewing on her bottom lip. James let out a snort in his sleep, which caused Y/n to jump. I had to stifle a laugh, and she narrowed her eyes at me, and I hesitated for a moment before gesturing to her to come over. She looked at the bed beside her and slowly got up, tiptoeing across the room and to my bed. I cast a silencing charm and she raised an eyebrow, to which I shook my head furiously, embarrassment and mortification filling my body.
"That's not – I didn't cast the charm because – because I wanted–"
Y/n laughed. "I was just teasing."
Relief washed through me, and I was able to smile alongside her. It was silent, before–
"The – the stars," she whispered. "I was thinking about the stars. That one is Regulus."
She pointed to a star in the sky, but I couldn't make out which one it was.
"I – I look at it, sometimes, when I'm at – at that place. When I'm surrounded by them." It took me a moment to realise she was talking about Malfoy Manor, and her family members. "It – it feels like he's there with me, sometimes. Comforting me."
"You love him," I stated.
Y/n smiled slightly. "Tell him and I'll have to kill you."
I smiled back at her, feeling her words resonate slightly.
"I know what you mean," I confessed, looking at the sleeping figures of my friends. "I – without them, I... I wouldn't..."
I wouldn't be who I am. I would be shrouded in misery and self-hatred. My friends were everything to me. They were worth more than anything in the world. More than money, more than fame, and (although I'd never admit it to them) more than books and chocolate. They were my rock in a stormy sea, the thing that kept me afloat.
Y/n nodded softly in understanding. "I know," she murmured.
She was no longer smiling, but there was empathy in her features. Did she feel the same way about Regulus? Was he her rock? Her eyes bored into mine, and I was suddenly reminded of the saying, the eyes are the window to the soul. If she looked hard enough, would she see through? See inside, see what a monster I was?
"What are you thinking about?" she asked.
I couldn't tell her – not this, never this. I wanted to believe that she'd be understanding, that she'd be like James and Sirius and Peter and Lily – that she wouldn't care. But I couldn't take that risk.
"The Ball," I lied.
If she knew that I hadn't told the truth, she made no mention of it. In fact, she even smiled, looking down shyly and batting her eyelashes a bit.
"Yeah?"
"Yeah," I said. "I, um... I think it'll be good. Y'know, if I don't trample your feet."
Y/n chuckled and looked up at me, her smile brightening the room, washing out the glow of the moon. "You'll be fine, Remus. I believe in you."
And the way she said my name – fuck. I was falling hard, and I could tell there was no stopping. I was freefalling without a parachute, without anything to stop or catch me. This wasn't going away, the feelings weren't going away. I should stop it now, I should just let her go, but...
But you're scared. You want her.
I did want her. So badly. I wanted to be with her, to kiss her, to hold her hand and hold her and be the one she called hers.
"We should probably get some rest, huh?" she suggested, looking back at her own makeshift bed. "Y'know, so we don't miss Santa?"
I grinned at her, and she slid off my bed and into her own.
You'll be fine, Remus. I believe in you.
Fuck. It was really going to hurt when I hit the ground.
