JISOO - 'ME' (FLOWER) REVIEW
Tumblr media
How YG handles BLACKPINK solos has been criticised by the K-Pop community since 2018. From Jennie’s ‘Solo’ being released right in the midst of wildfire rumours of favouritism, Rosé’s ‘On The Ground’ being delayed several years to everyone including Rosé’s frustration, and the mixed reception of Lisa’s ‘Lalisa’, Jisoo’s deserved moment has been a long time coming.
‘Flower’:
This title is understated, couture and perfectly captures Jisoo’s raw elegance both visually and audibly. It’s a little bit Caribbean in the beat, a little bit Latin in the melody, and completely and utterly hypnotic in the execution. ‘Flower’ is a song designed for Jisoo from the roots - it fits her range perfectly and shows off her strong lower range, gentle falsetto, and gorgeous vocal colour. I loved this song from the get go, but I wasn’t shocked to find out that many others found it underwhelming. ‘Flower’ may not be suckerpunching its listeners in the ears to get a second listen, but it very successfully retains an alluring aura throughout its runtime - which is enough for me at least. I will admit that the final chorus needed a little something else (something like the finale of Eunbi’s ‘Glitch’ perhaps?) to elevate it from a very good song to a great one.
‘All Eyes On Me’:
Where ‘Flower’ soars ahead for me, ‘All Eyes On Me’ falls very flat. The song doesn’t play to Jisoo’s strengths especially well, and the hook line is awkward and disjointed. The chorus melody is fine, but it is so overdone and boring, and the squeaking synth becomes extremely grating after the first chorus. It really doesn’t do much for me.
music video/teasers:
If there is one thing YGE continually does perfectly, it’s visual coding in the girls’ solos. Every single teaser or music video look was stunning, and solidified Jisoo’s visual brand perfectly. Her roles of the Dior global ambassador, eldest member of the worlds biggest girl group, and walking goddess collide into one with images of jewel tone couture dresses, vintage cars in Milan, and an young heiress drunk in the hotel lobby. Flawless execution, I have no complaints.
overall thoughts:
I love this for Jisoo, the song was really good, the music video was beautiful, and even if the b-side was chronically average, the whole package shows potential. Whether she becomes more of an actress who does music occasionally, or a full blown soloist post BlackPink, I’m excited for where she goes. Jisoo has so much more to show us and I’m excited for her to carve out a space for herself in the industry, build a reputation of her own, and prove once and for all that she is anything but forgettable. 7.5/10 album, 10/10 visual media.
bonus solos ranking:
SOLO - Jennie
On The Ground - Rosé
Flower - Jisoo
Gone - Rosé
Money - Lisa
Hard To Love - Rosé
Lalisa - Lisa
You & Me - Jennie
All Eyes On Me - Jisoo

The defintion of hell is knowing a show is incredibly well-received in its first season, but if people don’t become machines churning out tweets, content, and rewatching 24/7, there’s no likelihood it’ll get a chance to tell its whole story. This shit is madness. Shows in different genres shouldn’t have to pit-battle for dominance. First seasons are MEANT to be baselines establishing worlds and characters, not complete storylines. The idea that this golden age of television has turned into “get it done in one or get out” is revolting.

Here are my Top9 posts from 2023.
2023 was a weird year where Instagram desperately wanted to become Tiktok, Tiktok still did Tiktok best and now also is the better platform for artists to post image albums on. Twitter died and Tumblr continued its resurgence. If not for Tumblr doing so well I'd feel pretty bad about the year social media-wise. Art-wise though I'm very happy since I managed to significantly upgrade many of my old favorite designs (to use for merch and finally my own site) but also was able to push forward on new illustrations and test out many new series ideas. My goal for 2024 is to keep the momentum going, since there are a few other longterm plans I want to do. Thanks for following!

1. Movie poster based on Practical Magic, with the title in the top center and the names Guillermo de la Cruz and Nandor the Relentless along the top. Nandor is close up in the center, face worried and thrown into harsh shadows by candlelight. Guillermo is just behind him, staring determinedly at the viewer with a stake raised. Nandor's left hand is held out behind him, the back of it pressed to Guillermo's chest as if to hold him back. In the foreground in front of them is a cluster of lit candles and the silhouettes of dozens of bats flying past. A tagline reads 'for a vampire with a lifetime of heartbreak, falling out of love is the trickiest spell of all.' Text at the bottom says 'a beansprean production.'
2. Movie poster based on While You Were Sleeping, with the names Guillermo de la Cruz and Nandor the Relentless along the top. Close up of Nandor in his super slumber robes, eyes half open, drooling and looking barely awake, head surrounded by question marks. Guillermo, a vampire, is beaming and hugging him around the neck from behind, a smear of blood on his cheek. The title 'While You Were In Super Slumber' lays across them in white with the tagline 'a story about love at second sight.' Text at the bottom says 'a beansprean production.'
3. Movie poster based on The Wedding Planner, with the names Guillermo de la Cruz and Nandor the Relentless along the top with the tagline 'a romantic horror comedy about love, wishes, and other events you just can't plan for.' Waist up of Guillermo and Nandor on a background of white roses dripping with blood, pooling and staining at the bottom. Guillermo is leaning heavily against the bottom of the poster with both elbows, one hand holding up his face as he stares blankly into the middle distance, tired beyond belief with dark circles beneath his eyes. Nandor is leaning into him from behind, one arm propped on his shoulders and holding a pen while he gestures vaguely. The other hand is holding up a notebook. Nandor, also with dark circles beneath his eyes but with a more manic expression, is looking upward and appears in the middle of reciting some new list of demands. The title 'The Wedding Planner' is scrawled over the top of them in fancy font. Text at the bottom says 'a beansprean production.'
4. Movie poster based on Pretty Woman, with the names Guillermo de la Cruz and Laszlo Cravensworth along the top. The title 'Pretty Vampire' is printed vertically on the right side with the tagline 'he flew into their lives, off the balcony, and needed medical attention.' In the center, Laszlo floats midair, facing left with one hand in his pocket. He is wearing a black suit with a patterned purple waistcoat and embroidered loafers. He is wrenched backward with a shocked and angry expression, bent almost in half, as Guillermo grabs onto his tie from behind. Guillermo, wearing a pink and red patterned sweater, black chinos, and black boots, is flailing midair, held up only by his death grip on Laszlo's tie as he pumps his legs back and forth in an effort to regain flight. His eyes are wide and panicked, teeth clenched together, and there are shadows of bat wings at his back. Text at the bottom says 'a beansprean production.'
5. Movie poster based on The Vow, with the names Guillermo de la Cruz and Nandor the Relentless along the top. Nandor and Guillermo are facing each other in profile, intimately close and with their foreheads pressed together, smiling gently and staring into each other's eyes. Nandor has his hands on Guillermo's hips and Guillermo has one hand on Nandor's waist and the other tucked around the back of his neck. Several top buttons of Guillermo's shirt is open, and there is blood staining the collar and dripping sluggishly from two holes on his throat. Blood is also smeared around Nandor's mouth and chin. The title 'The Vow' is overlaid with the tagline 'his word is their bond'. Text at the bottom says 'a beansprean production.'
6. Movie poster based on The Breakup, with the names Guillermo de la Cruz and Nandor the Relentless along the top. Nandor and vampire Guillermo are both sitting up on either side of a massive king-sized coffin with a double lid. A line of duct tape runs down the adjacent wall and divides the coffin down the middle. On the left, Guillermo, hair a mess and wearing a blue striped pajama set, sits with his knees to his chest, hugging his balled-up corner of their shared comforter to his chest and glaring off to the side, away from Nandor. On the right, Nandor, wearing a loose cream blouse, sits pouting with his arms crossed, glaring over at the side of Guillermo's head. The title over their heads says 'the break-up' with the tagline '…pick a side.' Text at the bottom says 'a beansprean production. coming on a sheet near you November 2023.'
7. Movie poster based on Failure to Launch, with the names Guillermo de la Cruz and Laszlo Cravensworth along the top. Full body of Laszlo and Guillermo as Laszlo, wearing a burgundy and pink suit, cheerfully pushes Guillermo across the screen from behind, grinning at the viewer. Guillermo, wearing a teal and brown patterned cardigan, beige chinos, and boots, is leaning back into Laszlo, body fully straight and rigid, digging his heels in as they scrape along the ground. He looks anxious and terrified, hands up in front of him as if to protect him from whatever he's headed toward. The title above their heads reads 'failure to launch' with the tagline 'to leave the nest, some fledglings just need a little push.' Falling down from the title is a little black and orange bat, a dotted line following it down as it fails to fly upward. Text at the bottom says 'a beansprean production.'
8. Movie poster based on 10 Things I Hate About You, with the title '10 Things I Ate Instead of You' large in the right center of frame with the names Nandor the Relentless and Guillermo de la Cruz above and below it, respectively. A tagline along the top reads 'how do I resent thee? let me count the ways'. In the center is Nandor from knees up, curled in an armchair with his knees tucked to one side, his left arm resting on the chair arm and his right elbow braced on the other to play idly with his hair. His expression is a practice in aloofness, looking off to the side. Behind him stands Guillermo, left arm leaning against the back of the chair and right elbow braced to lean his head against his hand. He stares longingly at the side of Nandor's head, face flushed and lips pressed together nervously. Text at the bottom says 'a beansprean production.'
9. Movie poster based on You've Got Mail, with Guillermo and Nandor. Their names are listed at the top. They are walking casually toward the viewer on far sides of the image, looking off to the side away from each other with dreamy smiles, ignorant of the other's presence. Nandor is wearing a brown and gold belted tunic and boots, twiddling his fingers together. Guillermo is wearing black boots, gray chinos and vest, and his trenchcoat, a stake loose in his hand as it swings at his side. The background is blurry green and white, shadows stretching out in front of them. Between them, a tagline reads 'Someone you pass on the street may already be the love of your afterlife.' and then the title 'You've Got Mail' beneath. 'Text at the bottom says 'a beansprean production.' /end ID

Have you seen the coliseum? The jaws, the stands, the banners, and blood? The crowds, the roaring magnanimous flood? Their voices, the ocean, the pulse in your ears, the shape of their outcry, the shape of your fear. Your sword is the lightning, the thunder their praise, the silence befallen your hand when it's stayed. You should see the coliseum, the fights in the sand, your soul in your teeth and your glory demand. As if you were thunder, the god of the storm, you, gladiator, the proud and hels-born.

'Midnights' Taylor Swift - Review
When Taylor announced her tenth studio album at the VMA’s, I was ecstatic. I have always appreciated and enjoyed her music, but it was only around the ‘Lover’ era where I became an official swiftie. This is my first ‘normal’ album rollout, and I didn’t really know what to expect.
Midnights is a thrumming hardwood pop record that sonically references the soul of ‘Lover’, with hints of ‘Reputation’ swirled in. While the lyricism, in my opinion, doesn’t quite reach the heights of ‘Folklore’ or ‘Evermore’, it’s still as poignant and poetic as ever. Jack Antonoff’s production continues to impress me, he seems to understand that in a Taylor song the lyricism is the star of the show - his production highlights and emphasises her vocals perfectly.
Let's take a more in depth look at tracks 1 through 13 - I’m going to cover the seven 3am bonus tracks in a later review, purely because this is going to be a long post lol.
Track 1 - Lavender Haze
The album opens with the mesmerising ‘Lavender Haze’, that lyrically describes clinging desperately onto the few moments of true bliss you get in a relationship. I adore the distorted cries that echo throughout the production, and I love how it later becomes a motif for the whole album. The song generally is very Euphoria, and it’s such a standout in Taylor’s album openers.
Track 2 - Maroon
Lavender Haze is a hard act to follow, but Maroon pulls through beautifully. This song is drunk in the corner of a party, mumbling your heart out into the ear of your lover. Taylor plays with crimson semantic fields in the chorus, and melancholy imagery in the verses, and Jack strings everything together with a resonant production.
Track 3 - Anti Hero
The first single of the album lyrically diverts slightly from the poetic tone of the previous tracks, and takes on a more comical, crude accent. The bridge describing her ‘laughing up from hell’ is petty and karmic and wickedly hysterical and the highlight of the song, and one of my new favourite Taylor bridges. Some other lyrics are questionable, but the song generally is fun, and defines self deprecating humour.
Track 4 - Snow On The Beach
This track, while it is slightly outshone by its surroundings, remains a gentle, enjoyable experience. It feels very Lana, which makes it all the more weird that she doesn’t feature very heavily on this track at all. The bridge is beautiful, and the chorus imagery is stunning, but the verses slip into forgettable territory.
Track 5 - You’re On Your Own Kid
Track 5s are famed for being the saddest on each album, but somehow this song explores a new aspect of sadness that has never been explored by a track 5 before - ignored devastation and the moment innocent faith in the world is lost. This song is a wakeup call, and feels like a teen girl’s most painful years all at once. The song ends with a pat on the head, telling you to accept the inevitable pain, and keep going anyway. In my head this is about Betty, by the way.
Track 6 - Midnight Rain
Midnight Rain is beautifully introspective and raw, and truly captures the perspective that you only gain at midnight in the corner of your room.
Track 7 - Question…?
Dry sarcasm oozes from the seams of Question, and the song describes a girl tired of her ex’s behaviour, tired of being mocked and ridiculed by his friends, tired of the fake smiles and gossip. The speaker revels in the plight of him, mocking how the tables have turned. It’s an imagery feast, but, like Snow On The Beach, is slightly eclipsed by its competition.
Track 8 - Vigilante Shit
This song is somehow more Reputation than Reputation. It’s femme fatale, it’s bisexual villain, it’s bad bitch. The bridge is languid and evil and perfectly compliments the verses and choruses. This should 100% be the next single, and I am desperate to see a music video for it.
Track 9 - Bejewelled
Easily one of my favourites, her vocal colour steals the show. The way she says ‘shimmer’ and ‘nice’ is just perfection. The line ‘They ask ‘do you have a man?’ I could still say ‘I don't remember’’ is genius, and is one of the best lines from the entire album. ‘This is a more refined ‘I Forgot That You Existed’ and perfectly portrays confidence in spite of everyone else.
Track 10 - Labyrinth
Labyrinth is caught in the heat of the moment, Taylor describes an accidental love she didn’t see coming, or rather a love that she thought fell at the first hurdle that regained its footing and took first. It’s blissful and peaceful and happy, and it’s a pink blush on your cheeks.
Track 11 - Karma
Here it is folks, my favourite song on the entire record, the song I’ve had on loop since it came out. It’s perfect in every capacity, and the chorus is genuinely one of her best, potentially in her entire discography. I can’t describe how much I adore this song. To conclude, karma is my boyfriend.
Track 12 - Sweet Nothing
The spiritual successor and sequel to ‘Peace’, ‘Sweet Nothing’ is about appreciating a lover who expects nothing from Taylor but herself. It continues the themes of ‘Lavender Haze’, but here Taylor finds more success in enjoying the best moments of the relationship. ‘I’m just too soft for all of it’ is another favourite lyric from the album - it's simple yet pure.
Track 13 - Mastermind
‘I'm only cryptic and Machiavellian cause I care’ is another perfect line from this album, and summarises the song perfectly. The speaker overstates her manipulative tendencies apologetically, while unbeknownst to her, the lover knew all along. Mastermind is a song left speechless, and I love it. It’s perfect to end the album.
Overall, this album is near perfection. My favourite tracks include Lavender Haze, Maroon, Bejewelled, Vigilante Shit, and of course, my new reason for living, Karma. The aesthetics, the production, the lyrics, are all wonderfully cohesive and show that Taylor Swift truly has music creation down to an art. Easily a 10/10.

Ch204 (p1), Cover and title pages
As I mentioned before, in spoiler posts, Snake and Finny are wearing variations on the costumes they wore to the Halloween party in ch120... which was less than two months ago (for them).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Snake's witch/wizard costume now looks more like he's a student at Hogwarts, while Finny's vampire outfit now looks inspired by Anne Rice characters.
But I also mentioned the glasses and the crown of thorns, which have been added to the costumes and hold separate meanings from the costumes. I see Snake's glasses as an indication he has trouble seeing the truth about Doll as an enemy. And that Finny wears that crown of thorns because of the burden he bears, the feelings of guilt he has for not telling Snake that his friends died... and how Finny had a part in their deaths.
