Living with Jisung was honestly hard. He never cleaned after himself and was almost half naked whenever you saw him around. His cooking was horrible and his favorite hobby was annoying you, but you would say that the most difficult part about living with him would be your growing crush for him.

At first he would think it was based off of real events, in which you've had to remind him they're not. It's just a videogame

But it all shifted when you mentioned the books

That peaked his interest and you give some recommendations on the first ones to read. Obviously reminding him that what happens in the books doesn't happen in the games

You've got him hooked on the lore, it confused him at first but you guided him through the most confusing bits, like not canon works like the books, security breach, the peak of the fandom etc.

You guy's definitely watched "An Undeniably Canon Five Nights at Freddy's Timeline" and he was definitely hollering while watching it with you and it helped him understand the lore just a bit better (bonus that y'all watched it like a movie night!)

In absolute awe of the Fnaf songs, each one is a banger

He'll definitely ramble about it with you if it's your hyperfixation and he's always happy to learn more about what makes you happy

More reluctant on it especially because it's in the horror genre and i don't think he takes it too well

He understands the idea and how it can be interesting but you might need to leave out agony and renment, might frighten him too much

Please don't show him the VHS tapes, that'll certainly scare the color off of him

He listens to the songs and thinks the community is very creative

Definatly likes the more cute and wholesome side of fnaf

Might not be as interested in the beginning, halfheartedly listening until you mention Springtrap

He reminds her of herself, an abomination both organic and technology. Both painful experiences and the agony of never being what they once were

She ends up enjoying listening to you explain how agony and remnant works. It's reminds her of her experiments to return herself to normal

She'd listen to you as she works, using your voice as a way to ground herself as she works

Definitely shocked at the family drama, but she loves the tea

Overall happy to be able to have one more thing to talk to you about.

I'm Indian, currently outside India, and I've only started learning about the shitshow going on in my 'mahaan bharat' since November (specifically since finding out that we are Irahell's biggest weapons buyer). and the more I find out the more shocked and heartbroken I feel...

like this week i learnt about the immigration ban in US against Chinese women that existed a few decades ago, and the ongoing discrimination against Palestinians in Canadian immigration services... and both the times I was so disgusted and there was this subconscious feeling that India should never be like that. but then an hour ago I learnt about the 2019 CAA and wtf!?

another example being that currently we're seeing israhell's continuous bombing of heritage sites of great cultural and religious significance, that also held so many centuries old records and histories... and learning about how they are bulldozing over graveyards and exhuming them...

and then today I learnt about Akhonji Masjid and Gyanvapi Masjid and of course have known about Babri Masjid for a few weeks now...

and only learnt about Kashmir in november...

and I feel like my whole worldview has shifted from a previous foundation, except it's so drastic and I still don't have a new foundation...

I try to talk to members of my family about this but they're the Indian equivalent of the U.S. liberals, and every single time they'll tell me "whatever news you're hearing is propaganda written by Pakistan/China/U.S./Russia. trust me I have Muslim friends and they're very happy. you just don't know the situation cause you're not in India" and like it sometimes make me think maybe I'm the one losing my mind...

I even read some places about free Punjab and that confused the fuck out of me cause I'm Punjabi (who does not live in Punjab) and I don't have any clue what it's about... I asked my fam, but they just gave me a weird look and told me to stay away from anyone that mentions Khalistan😭💀

hello nonnie! some news sites I'd recommend are newslaundry (they have a youtube channel too), the wire, scroll.in and newsclick. maktoob media is mostly focused on minority rights in india. hindutvawatch.org is about hindu fascist violence committed against minorities. I still think you should stick to al-jazeera at least when it comes to palestine (they have journalists on the ground there, shireen abu akleh was one of them)

this is a good introduction to anyone wanting to learn about hindutva, this and this are about how india is becoming increasingly unsafe for minorites and is undergoing a democratic backsliding. this and this are about the rss link to nazism

hostile homelands by azad essa is about india's historical relationship with israel and the parallels between hindutva and zionism. the brown history podcast has an episode about how india went from the first non-arab state to recognise palestine to its largest buyer of weapons, featuring azad essa (x). you can also read colonising kashmir by hafsa kanjwal about how india came to militarily occupy kashmir. if you want to learn more about kashmir there are the blogs kashmiraction.org and standwithkashmir (which is um. blocked in india. i wonder why)

i have not read khaki shorts and saffron flags yet but this one is about the history of the rss. i also suggest watching the documentaries ram ke naam and jai bhim, comrade which are about the hindutva revival in the 1980s

for me free punjab is very ?? the indian government is beyond evil as they continue to spy on sikhs abroad (and ofc, how can we forget the 1984 sikh genocide) but i don't think liberation will be achieved through a religious ethnostate. any state formed on the basis of a religion will inevitably turn out to be a disaster. i do encourage you to read lost in history: 1984 reconstructed by gunisha kaur, which is about the humans rights violations committed against sikhs during this time and why operation bluestar was in fact not about freeing sri harmandir sahib from "terrorists." all i can say is to stand with sikhs unapologetically as our shitass government continues to commit more and more human rights violations against them

in general, i'd tell you to observe the language used by different news outlets and question it (eg. american news referring to israelis below the age of 18 as children but the same courtesy is not extended to palestinians) and check their sources. if it's from whatsapp university don't even bother

you sigh, and wrap your arms snug around his thick upper arm, snuggling your head into it. it makes him giggle, his little smile making you smile, the way his eyes, still covered in a bit of dark makeup, crinkle as he does so. he sets the book down, running a hand through his natural, dark curls. he brings his other hand closest to you and runs it through your hair.

he cocks an eyebrow up, before grinning as you shimmy down to wrap your arms around his waist. in return, he wraps his big arms around you, softly petting your hair with one hand.

you look up at him and smile. “all better now.”

he smiles in return, planting another soft kiss onto your head.

“I love you, bun.”

you kiss his bicep, making him chuckle. “I love you too, bin-bin.”

“you apparently love my big, strong arms too don’t’cha, bunny?”

you flush at his words. “well, you can’t blame me! they’re big, and comforting, and.. and..”

he laughs, one that makes you grin shyly. he sighs lovingly. “you’re cute.”

he just smiles more when you bury your face into his broad chest, he rubs gentle circles onto your upper back, resting his chin on your head.

“bin-bin?”

“yes, bun?”

“i looove you.”

he laughs again. “i loooove you too, bub. let’s go to bed though. it’s late, and we have to be up at a decent time.”

you whine. “but binniiieeee.”

“ya! no whining, you will sleep here, no ifs, ands, or buts.”

you sigh. “I don’t wanna sleep, though.” you pout.

“well, too bad, bun. you need your sleep. now, nighty night.” he kisses your head, turning off the bedside lamp.

you succumb to the sleepiness that’s actually been messing with you for a bit now, and you snuggle into changbins warm figure, sighing as you bury your face into his broad chest.

he lets out a small laugh, nothing super loud, and holds you close with his big arms.

Hiiiiiiii Nick, so sorry if you've already answered this somewhere, but I couldn't find it. I was wondering if you have any recs for leftist literature that's somewhat digestible for people who don't usually read a lot of academic papers/journals and the like? Basically, theory for beginners, I guess. I've been wanting to start reading more theory and while everything you posted about The Authoritarian Personality was super interesting, I think that trying to read a 1000 page book right now would kill me 💀

(also definitely don't feel the need to answer, I just thought you might appreciate getting an ask that's not star wars related asjdjdjshdjdhsjdjfj)

oh god yeah do not start with authoritarian personality that thing is insane

There is a Marxism archive that has a page for beginners here (ignore the advice to read Capital. Like try if you want to but it’s not accessible at all in my experience lol, so I would not start there). That website gives you free access to a lot of theory, you can poke around there and see what you might want to read (if you scroll to the bottom of the page I linked it has a link where you can search by subject - so if you want to learn more about leftist feminism, or colonialism, or etc, you can do so). I’m not the most well read marxist unfortunately so I can’t give you detailed recommendations from the lists they give. I have read a bit of Lenin and found him to be quite funny. Also sorry this is skewing communist, I have only read a few bits of anarchist literature and wasn’t impressed with it (not a dig at anarchism in general, I just did not have a good introduction to it and because of my schooling I tend to spend most of my time with more critical/marxist lit). So don’t let that sway you, this is just my own bias and theoretical instincts.

Why Marx Was Right by Terry Eagleton (this is a book, sorry I don’t have a link) is fairly accessible, as is Capitalist Realism by Mark Fisher (this is very short, like under a hundred pages).

Also I KNOW I keep bringing this up but Discourse on Colonialism is such a fantastic essay (you can skip past the introduction in this pdf if you like and go straight to the essay). You don’t need to know all the theorists Cesaire is talking about or get all of his references. I think this is a very good introduction to colonialism as a force in the world. Cesaire is a fantastic writer, extremely witty and scathing while being incredibly insightful, truly a level of hater we should all aspire to become

There’s also the communist manifesto, which is very short and easy to read. You don’t have to pay too much attention to the historical stuff they bring up imo. This just answers the basic question of like “so what do communists believe exactly?” Even if you’re not a communist I think it’s useful to see these beliefs articulated in plain language.

If you want a book to read, there is Black Jacobins by CLR James about the Haitian Revolution (~200 pages). This is a history book written from a leftist perspective. I find reading about history very instructive because it alerts you to a lot of the problems with mass organising, all the sticky ways that class conflict manifests at all levels of society, and gives you context to a lot of leftist thought that, when detached from its historical circumstances, may seem weird or abstract.

Hey there, friend, thanks for the ask!

If you haven't read it already, I think the book Hellenic Polytheism: Household Worship by Labrys is pretty good! It has a lot of interesting content. I'm not sure if you find a difference between HelPol and HelPag, but I hope this is a helpful resource regardless.

If you're curious about the ancient worship of Nymphs (since some Nymphs had a strong connection to Artemis), you could try Greek Nymphs: Myth, Cult, Lore by Jennifer Larson. I think it's pretty informational, and I hardly see anyone writing books on the topic, sadly.

Aside from ancient texts, these are the only books I can think of off the top of my head. Regarding ancient texts, if interested, there are quite a few good ones about Greek deities! Theogony by Hesiod is a great resource and discusses the genealogy of various deities. It's a good resource if you're trying to get a better picture of where the gods may have come from. The Library of Greek Mythology by Apollodorus is also pretty good. It covers a wide range of myths and provides better insight into what ancient worship might've been like.

Unfortunately, I don't really read many witchcraft related texts, so I don't have many recommendations. I know the user @breelandwalker has written a witchcraft related book, though, so I encourage you to check that out. :)

Also, I think @teawiththegods has a list of books and such??? I may be remembering wrong, so best to ask him directly!

Rooster Dad Headcanons

He never thought he had what it took to be a dad

I mean, he never had a good example growing up. Why would he be a good one if he had no base to go off of?

You two agreed very early in the relationship

No kids.

He had a long day at work the day you told him you were pregnant

Well, you didn’t really tell him. More of he observed

Bradley opened the bathroom to take a piss after a long day of flying and found you curled up in the bathtub surrounded by tests and in shock

Almost went into shock himself at the sight

This was definitely not planned

But he got right in the empty tub with you and held you until the two of you could come up with words

yes this tub was large. think sims 4 corner tub. what i’m imagining 💀 irrelevant anyways…

There was a conversation on whether you would keep it or not

You cried and apologized profusely to him

How could you have been so stupid? You should have kept up to date with your birth control expiration date

And he quickly rejected those apologies

Both parties were at fault

Morning sickness is a lie

Late afternoon sickness is what’s real

Without fail Bradley would find you vomiting or with a bowl or looking close to death whenever he would come home

The first trimester was always the worst, that part was true

And when the bump started forming it freaked you out

“Look babe!” you said, stretching your stomach out as far as you could then back in as much as you could

“Gonna give the kid whiplash,” Bradley sighed

The excitement slowly pent up day by day

Even if it was small feeling of excitement, you were beginning to believe that this maybe wasn’t the worst thing in the world

Of course when everyone on the team found out they went ballistic

“Didn’t know you had it in you Bradshaw,” Hangman said, congratulating Rooster and giving him a slap on the shoulder

You kept getting flashbacks on how your honeymoon in Greece got cut short because they needed him for an emergency mission

Sitting alone on the warm beach

But this time you wouldn’t be alone. You would have someone else with you

Speaking of that someone else, you and Bradley had no patience when it came to the gender

You two ripped that sucker open in the car right after you left the ultrasound appointment

You personally didn’t care about the gender

But Bradley was sweating

He now has a son

The realization hit him hard one night

He cried in your arms for hours realizing that he is now going to do what his father wasn’t able to.

You had just bought yourself a fresh 2022’s best baby names book

So it was obviously filled with tradgedeighs

“Jemisyn? Y/N, do you hear how stupid that sounds? The Y? Why can’t we just name him something normal like…”

“Patch? Now your fucking with me,” he said, yelling at you from the kitchen

“No kid of mine is going to be named fuckin Patch.”

“Then what do you think?” you asked, joining him on the couch

“I dunno! Something normal.”

“What is something normal you recommend?” you ask with a slight annoyance to your tone

Bradley scanned his now conveniently empty brain for any name

His eyes scanned around the room for something to say for a response. His eyes fell to the bookshelf

The biography of JFK he finished reading last night was poking slightly out of place with the rest of the book’s spines lines up neatly

Silence sit amongst the two of you

“Deal.”

And of course when you told the team Hangman had a field day

“Jack? Jake? You practically named the kid after me.”

The baby’s bedroom was a mess

You struggled getting anything together

And whenever you had the energy, Bradley was always working

He tried his best to help but his schedule always seemed to get in the way

Maverick sent over his new… fling? girlfriend? who knows. anyways he sent over his Penny.

And she was the sweetest

She put together the crib in less than an hour

And her cooking? don’t even get me started

She knew all the pregnancy secrets and hacks you needed desperately

The nursery was painted a pale darker toned shade of blue

The light wood crib sat under the wood wall carving of his full name

Jack Goose Bradley

Yes you named your baby after your husband’s deceased father’s callsign

Yes the average person would be concerned that you named your child after an asshole of an animal

Yes the middle name may be a tragedeigh to others

But it held a special meaning in your husbands heart, and now yours

It definitely felt sweet for Mav too

His best friend’s legacy was moving on

Towards the end of your pregnancy you just worried

And worried

So much that they put you on bedrest

And that set Bradley off

What wasn’t he doing? The man blamed himself and constantly kept trying to make things better

And he waited on you hand and foot

And if he couldn’t be there he would make sure someone was, or was either a phone call away

And why were you worrying?

You wanted your husband to be there when you gave birth

No, you needed your husband to be there when you gave birth

Many strict texts to Maverick to absolutely make sure nothing is happening the week your due

The month your due was pushing it apparently.

The child was perfect because he was born right on time

Right on schedule, right on his due date

You felt the first contraction when you were asleep

Honestly you thought it was Bradley’s knee pushing into your back

But then it started to burn

With some loud “Fucks!” and moaning Bradley woke up and knew

The bags were thrown in the Bronco, and if you didn’t warn him to slow down you would have been thrown in too

The man drove to the hospital like he was drunk and on a variety of drugs

The rush of him speeding though honestly got your adrenaline pumping and unintentionally numbed some of the pain

And of course it was the base hospital

Closest one available, duh

You demanded the epidural right away

When the epidural was taking a bit longer than expected to come another contraction hit

Maybe it’s a myth that you get unbelievably horny in labor, but seeing your hot military husband demand help for you and yell just did something right

But that quickly left when they pulled out the big ass needle

“I don’t want it I don’t want it please no, Bradley don’t make me get it!” you begged, huddling against him in the hospital beds as him and the nurses tried to hold you down

“I swear to god Y/N, not the time. You’ll thank me 1000% later.”

And he was right

You pushed all night and into the morning

This fucker was like his dad. Big ass head

You could swear you heard it rip

Even though the doctors said there was minimal damage even with the head size

Bradley was at your shoulders the whole time

And he looked. Of course he did

“You know, after this it’s gonna be like throwing a hotdog down a hallway.” he whispered in your ear

“Not the time, Bradshaw.”

“Hotdog down a hallway,” he laughed to himself, texting the crew updates

You were almost done. Your body was almost out of energy

Like I said, the child was perfect

Jack was born around 6 am just before you were about to pass out

Take it how you want but he was born a Gemini

And he had his daddy’s eyes

He came out screaming at the top of his lungs

You were too afraid to hold him, Bradley had to help you hold him to your chest because you were shaking

Mommy and Daddy :)

Sleep was amazing

You were eager to see your little boy but you were exhausted

When you woke up you found Bradley holding your little boy against his chest staring out into the ocean

“And then we’re going to watch football games together and swim in the pool and i’m gonna bring you to work and show you to all my friends and… I dunno little man. But I do know we’re going to be best friends.”

Bradley almost dying when his son grabbed his finger for the first time

“Look! Y/N do you see? Are you seeing this? Our son is a genius.”

“I’m pretty sure all babies do this, Bradley.”

“Shut up let me have my moment,”

Jack was practically a carbon copy of Bradley

You grew him, birthed him, and now have all the repercussions of having him just for him to look nothing like you

Mav visiting you in the hospital

“God that poor kid looks just like his dad,”

After your first week at home you decided it was time you would allow Bradley to bring the baby into his work

You decided to surprise him at lunch

You had brought Bradley his favorite (Homemade Spaghetti) and got special access in the building from Maverick

The plan was spoiled though when Bradley walked in on Maverick showing Jack old pictures on the wall of his grandpa

Training had ended earlier

“Quality time with grandpa, huh?”

For the record, Mav HATED Grandpa Maverick

Everyone silently stood around the baby’s car seat and watched him sleep

Giving Friends when Ben was born

Immediately given the honorary callsign “Little Man” by his father

“I didn’t know such a cute little baby could look so much like his ugly dad!” Hangman snickered

“Watch it Seresin,” Rooster snapped back

When Bradley came home the house was oddly quiet

With a new baby, there was always some sort of crying

From the baby or his mama

He opened your bedroom door to find you with him asleep on your chest

His little hand was gripping the strap of your tank top

Bradley softly scooted next to you in bed

The sun was beginning to set and the ocean softly crashed against the sand in your backyard. A cool breeze swung in from your open window

“Im glad we did this,” he whispered in your ear

“Me too,”

You come into the apartment in a huff, putting your things down and going to the fridge to get some water.

“Hey,” Jean starts, as he walks into the kitchen from his studio down the hall, before he stops and takes in your expression. “What’s wrong?”

“Just had a bad day,” you say, not really wanting to go into all of it, all your insecurities and the anxiety you’ve dealt with throughout today.

None of your clothes fit the way you wanted them to, making you feel like nothing you put on looked even remotely good. You were sporting an acne break out from stress? Hormones? Who fucking knows, but it’s annoying. The fact that in every window you walked by today, you saw your reflection and just felt…not pretty enough. And you do all of the things your therapist recommends when you’re feeling low like this, you’ve been working out, eating right, trying to drink more water. Not to mention the affirmations you had scribbled on your mirror in the bathroom. But some days, the irrational side of your brain wins out. Today you could not see past any of the things you don’t like about yourself. You weren’t able to view the whole picture and instead focused on the small flaws. Even going to lunch with your friends was discouraging, watching them all sport smiles and feel confident in themselves. It seemed effortless for them. And nothing ever felt effortless for you. You felt like you had to work so hard to even feel some semblance of the confidence your friends exude daily.

“What happened?” Jean asks, coming around the counter, wrapping his big arms around you pressing a kiss to the top of your head before moving down to your lips. “Do I need to beat somebody up?”

“Not unless you wanna beat up your own girlfriend.”

“Mm. That kind of bad day, huh?” He says softly, tilting your head to look at him before he kisses you again.

Jean knows about your struggles, you’ve been together for a while now, so it would have been impossible for him not to notice. He tries to do the most for you when it gets like this. He knows you can’t help it, that it tends to come in waves. You’ve been stressed at work lately and that usually bleeds into your anxiety.

“Come here, Pretty.” He says, pulling you by your hand to lead you to the couch, sitting you down and getting the blanket off the back to wrap it around you. “Stay here, I’ll be right back.” He turns to go back to his studio, but not before turning on your usual comfort show for you.

He comes back into the living room and sits down with you, sketchbook and pencil in hand.

“You don’t have to work out here.. I know you have a deadline.” You say softly from your spot on the couch, not wanting to distract him from his work just because you had a bad day.

“I got that piece done already, this is something different. It’s not work, so I’m gonna sit with you. Besides, I haven’t seen you all day.” He says leaning over to press another quick kiss to your lips, before leaning with his back on the arm of the couch, knees up with his sketch book pressed to them.

It’s pretty normal for Jean to draw in his free time when he’s not working on commissions for clients. It’s his chance to work on stuff he actually likes and lets him get more creative without the constraints of a clients wishes. You turn your attention back to the show, finding comfort in this cute little routine you two have. The warmth of his body next to yours while he scribbles on his page, the faint sound of the pencil scratching the paper, when the two of you get time like this everything else in the world kind of drowns out.

While half your brain is still going on and on about the ways you’re not good enough and ways you could improve, you try to focus on the show, trying to ignore all those other thoughts. You laugh at a part you’ve seen probably a hundred times, but you still find it just as funny as the first time. You glance over at Jean who’s smiling down at his paper, his eyes flitting between the tv and the paper. He doesn’t normally show you his free time stuff until it’s finished, so you don’t bother asking him what he’s working on, knowing that you’ll find out eventually.

The two of you sit like that for a couple hours, just enjoying being in each others company, chatting idly about the show and some stuff the two of you have going on over the weekend. After a few more moments, Jean shifts again, sitting closer to you, his sketch book splayed open to the page he was working on as he puts his arm around you. When you finally glance down at it, a look of surprise spreads across your face.

“Is that..me?” You ask softly, taking the book in your hands to examine the drawing further.

Jean simply nods, offering you a small mumble of affirmation with a little grin on his lips. As you look over the paper you see how he’s drawn you, plush lips turned up into a wide grin, you’re laughing. Your eyes are bright and you look..happy, your hair is in beautiful waves, no frizz in sight. There’s another small drawing in the corner of the page, it looks like he’s just drawn your eyes alone, shining and bright. It hits you then that when he lifted his head up from the page earlier, he hadn’t been watching the tv, he’d been looking at you.

Taking the book you look at the front cover and realize that this isn’t his usual sketch book. You flip to the front of the book and go through the pages, as you flip through it you have to fight back the tears that well in your eyes. Every page, is filled with you, sketches, drawings, some with color some without. Some pages are just studies of your features where he was trying to get your smile right, or your eyes. Some of them are full body drawings, and you recognize your own clothes, days when you’d send him selfies of your outfits with a big happy smile.

You look over at him with a soft smile, “what is this?”

He leans over and presses a kiss to your temple. “It’s you, baby. Whenever I’m having an art block or can’t think of what I want to draw, I just..draw you.”

“You drew me so pretty..”

“You are pretty. More than pretty.” He says, leaning into you to press another kiss to your temple, resting his head against yours. “Most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen. I thought about it when you came home and said you felt bad, that I wished you could see yourself the way I do. I thought, maybe I should just show you.”

You continue flipping through the pages, they aren’t all happy drawings. Some of them are clearly from some times when you weren’t feeling your best, but even in the ones where you have a sad expression, or tears in your eyes, he still drew you beautifully. Even when you felt your worst he still thought you were beautiful.

“Thank you…for this.” You say softly, turning towards him to softly kiss his lips, setting the sketchbook down on the table and pulling yourself into his lap to wrap your arms around him.

“Just drawing what I see, nothing else.” He murmurs as he buries his face into your neck, pressing a kiss there before holding you tightly.

which plants each of the greens would get from the plant shop where i work 🪴🌱🌿🍃

y'all i am so sorry for my sporadic activity on this blog and also for the chaotic jumble of fandoms i keep posting about with no warning 😭

so i was kinda into hotd last season, and with the new trailers coming out i was thinking about it again and this idea came to me like a revelation from on high so i decided to curse you all with these headcanons as well

for context, i work at a houseplant shop and was watering my own plants today when i was seized by the vision of which plant(s) each of the greens would get from the shop

i guess this is kind of modern au but not really?? like i guess i sort of envisioned it as the characters walking out of the world/canon of the show and into the plant store and so that's the characterization i went with idk

anyway sorry this is so chaotic – here are the headcanons:

alicent – def something pretty basic but classic like a pothos or a philodendron. a marble queen pothos would be especially appropriate, so honestly that's what i would probably recommend if she asked. is able to keep it alive just fine but i'm just not sure i would recommend anything too much more demanding – i just feel like losing a plant would be too demoralizing for her. also i feel like she would be one of those people who would come in and be like "i need a plant that filters air bc i need clean air in my living space" and i'd have to put on my best customer service voice/smile and be like "well actually ma'am that's all of them – that's kind of like one of their main things" lmaoooo

criston – i truly do not believe that my mans could keep a plant alive; i'm just not convinced of it. i think he'd get a funky spiky little succulent or cactus and it would be dead within a week and he'd come back in and i'd recommend a snake plant (very hard to kill) and then he'd kill that too 💀 but also i think he'd be sooooooooo in denial about it and always come up with a bunch of other things that must've happened to it

aegon – also cannot keep a plant alive but is painfully self-aware about this fact. would def be one of those people who comes in, walks right up to the counter and instantly says "i need a plant i can't kill." so i'd point him to the snakes and zz's and he'd get either a nice black coral or golden hahnii snake plant. the funniest thing about this is that i'm convinced that aegon's snake plant would actually survive and criston would be sooooo pissed about it. like he wouldn't water it for weeks, and then when he finally remembered to, he accidentally (drunkenly) watered it with wine and it still lived and criston was fucking livid about it

aemond – would for sure have more success keeping plants alive than aegon or criston. i feel like he'd try to start with something cool but tricky, like a complicated carnivorous plant, and after excruciating months of going back and forth with it, it kinda just gives up because he tries to do everything precisely by the book rather than reading the signs of the actual living plant in front of him. he admits defeat only personally – he tells everyone else that he gave to plant to helaena. he comes back for something a little easier and goes for a nice dracaena marginata (yes, he did buy it mostly because the name sounds like "dragon" and also because it was spiky and cool). he's definitely able to keep that one alive and it lives in the corner of his chambers and he's secretly very proud of his success with it. also he does not even let criston or aegon so much as look at it lmao

helaena – my girl could buy anything in the whole store and keep it alive 😌😌 she for sure likes the "weirder" plants and has a whole bog garden situation of carnivorous plants aemond is insanely jealous of this but never admits it out loud. she's very drawn to strange-looking cacti and succulents, and also fun little novelty plants like goldfish plants, string of turtles/bananas/hearts/pearls, starfish snake plants, etc. also, whenever she comes in she always buys all of the scraggly discount plants because she feels bad for them and nurses them all back to health. she has not lost a single plant yet regardless of the state it was in when she got it, and she doesn't intend to start any time soon 😌

My headcanon on if the consorts would like roller coasters or not lmao

Guy

I feel like he would because it would be kinda similar to riding Ertle but just really fast

Jasper

I’m not 100% sure on this one but I’m gonna go for him not liking roller coasters. Idk I just find it funny that one day he did have to go on Ertle for whatever reason and he was scared shitless and never went on Ertle again 💀

Toa

I’m gonna say he doesn’t like them. He might like carousels, teacup rides, and one of those rides that lift you up in the air and spin you around though

Absolutely not 💀

He would try them out once and vow to never go on one again

Do you consider the memphis mafia trustworthy sources on Elvis? Idk if I always believe some of the stuff they’ve said about elvis

thank you so much for this ask!! I have way too much to say about this topic, therefore I apologize in advance for how long this is 🤧

firstly I think it’s important to clarify who the Memphis Mafia actually consisted of: based on what they themselves have said, it was Red West, Sonny West, Alan Fortas, Marty Lacker, Lamar Fike, and Billy Smith

I was confused why people like Jerry Schilling, Charlie Hodge, Joe Esposito, Larry Geller, George Klein, etc. etc. weren’t technically considered Memphis Mafia until I learned that Elvis’ entourage were categorized into two groups, the Memphis Mafia, and the others

I also really recommend for every fan to read Alanna Nash’s “Elvis and the Memphis Mafia” which is just an oral history from Billy Smith, Marty Lacker, and Lamar Fike

and then to watch the documentary, it is 5 hours but it’s so worth it, I’ve literally rewatched it at least 8 times at this point because it’s my favorite Elvis documentary 😩!!

I also want to say if you are going to read from one of them, you should try to read from all of them because they all have their own unique experience with Elvis and therefore all have their own viewpoints/opinions and biases *which is why it’s important to cross reference between them

For example in the Alanna Nash book there are several instances where Lamar Fike, Marty Lacker and Billy Smith all have a different opinion on something and you basically have to decide for yourself which one you agree with

I’m just going to be breaking down each Memphis Mafia member, as I’ve been fortunate enough to read each of their books, and say if I think they are trustworthy sources:

Lamar Fike: Personally, I think he is one of Memphis Mafia members that you really have to be cautious about. If y’all didn’t know he was Albert Goldman’s main source for that horrible book, “Elvis”. In Alanna Nash’s book, Lamar Fike spends a good majority of the time disagreeing with everything Goldman wrote, and said that Goldman would twist his words and retell things to fit his own agenda. He said “even though I was one of his main sources, and shared in the royalties, I couldn’t control Albert”. He admitted he did the book for money which is why I lost respect for Lamar because he knew that Albert was saying things that weren’t true and that the book’s main purpose was to make Elvis look bad. I would also be cautious of Lamar because he tends to twist reality just a little bit and over exaggerate things. For example whenever he tells the story of Elvis and Priscilla meeting, he always says that it was he who introduced them “Elvis this is Priscilla, Priscilla this Elvis”. But no one else who was in the room has told it that way, Lamar just inserted himself into the scene (he also once said she was 13 when we obviously know she was 14). So yeah I would really recommend to cross reference everything Lamar says before believing it. He just tells things in a really blunt (and lowkey funny💀) way, which makes it interesting insight, but from what I have also seen he is more than willing to exaggerate things just to be able to tell a “better” story

Marty Lacker: I really really enjoy reading his viewpoint and his book is one of my favorites out of the bunch however I think he too often lets his own biases affect his story telling. This man really really really hated Priscilla 😭 So much so that every time he talked about her it was in a negative light. I’m not saying Priscilla is perfect, she has done many things I don’t agree with, however, none of these men knew what it was like to be in her shoes so I’m just wary of them placing so much blame on her when she was so young, and I find that Marty can be a little unsympathetic in that regard (but again I’m not saying that Priscilla hasn’t done things that deserve criticism). Also Marty Lacker wasn’t around in the late late 70s so I would just be cautious of anything he says about that time because he simply wasn’t there to know. But in general, beside his obvious biases, I would say he is a trustworthy source

Alan Fortas: He was the first Memphis Mafia member to pass away in 1992, we sadly didn’t get to hear too much from him, but I’m very grateful to have his book. Since he wasn’t around much in the late 60s and not at all in the 70s, his best stories come from the 50s and early-mid 60s. He provides a really unique insight especially when it comes to Priscilla and Elvis because he was more or less her chauffeur when she first came to the United States. He also knew Frances Forbes, Gloria Mowell, Heidi Heissen and Arlene Cogan and spends a decent chunk of his book talking about them. I can’t say it is in a way that looks good for Elvis because Alan really disagreed with those relationships, even though he said he knew nothing s*xual was going on, he genuinely couldn’t fathom why Elvis, who could have any woman he wanted, wanted to spend time with teenage girls, including Priscilla. But nothing in his book I found to be untrue and everything he says corresponds with what other has said, plus he has some really great stories about the movie-making times and his beloved chimpanzee, Scatter (I know it was Elvis’ technically but Alan was his real mom lmao) but I overall trust him as well

Red and Sonny West: I’m about to get controversial; I think these are two men, that as Elvis fans, we have been a little too critical of. It’s not fair to completely write off their experiences with Elvis just because of the book they did, which in retrospect, doesn’t say anything different from what the other Memphis Mafia men have said, it was just horribly timed. But I do want to clarify that I don’t support their decision on writing “Elvis: What happened” in 1977 and at the end of the day I will always support Elvis over anybody else. As for their credibility, Red West has one of the most important perspectives imo because he was literally the first Memphis Mafia member. He was with Elvis in highschool, in Germany, during the movies, during the comeback special, during Vegas, during the American tours, he only wasn’t there for the very last year of Elvis’ life. Unlike some of the other men here, he never stopped being with Elvis, except for of course the end. I have read the book he did in 1977 and I have watched tons of his interviews and I’ve personally never come across a story that wasn’t told/referenced by another Memphis Mafia member. I do think he is trustworthy in that sense but I think he has gotten very defensive in the past and is willing to throw Elvis under the bus in order to protect his image. I feel like it is the same thing with Sonny West. These men felt betrayed by Elvis, they got fired, and they both definitely harbored vengeful feelings for a while so you have to take that into account when listening to their stories. For example when they talked about how Elvis hired h00kers in the 1977 book they didn’t mention that they were also cheating on their wives and actually slept with the hired girls while Elvis only wanted to watch the girls simulate lesbian s*x. In that book especially, they often conveniently left out that they indulged in the same kind of behavior Elvis did. But with age, I think they both mellowed out and ultimately realized that they betrayed Elvis also, and they have both said they have regretted the book. The documentary I linked above really helped me understand their perspective more, and while things ended badly between Elvis and them, I do think both parties still cared about each other. So while both of their perspectives are very important (and I think Red was one of Elvis’ truest friends), I wouldn’t fully trust anything they have said until I checked another source to confirm

Billy Smith: He is sadly the only Memphis mafia member still with us and he still makes videos answering questions on the YouTube channels Elvis fans matter and Memphis Mafia kid. I really do enjoy reading Billy’s perspective and he is one of the few people who were with Elvis from the very beginning (childhood) to the very end. But Billy rarely actually went on tour with Elvis and he also wasn’t around for most of the movie time, so his best stories are about his times with Elvis at Graceland imo. They had such a special relationship and I think Billy was the closest thing Elvis had to a brother (y’all have to read about the oath he and Elvis took, it almost made me cry😭). However this man, like anyone, is not without his biases. When reading the Alanna Nash book you can see that Billy’s main purpose is to protect Elvis and the Smith family so much so that I think he denies some things solely because he believes it will make his family look bad. For example when in the book they talked about how Gladys may have had some Jewish blood in her, Billy Smith who is Gladys’ nephew, just shot that down right away. I didn’t think much of it until Billy Smith later on admitted in the book he was slightly prejudiced against black people and jewish people because of how he was raised. But that book was also in the 90s and I haven’t seen him speak in the way since so hopefully he has changed. This man really hated Priscilla, and especially hated Ginger, so take into account these biases as well. For example, in the Nash book, he was dead set on saying that Ginger called the national enquirer after Elvis passed away. Many fans believe this also but there is just no proof to support it. Another reason to be slightly cautious of Billy Smith is that his opinions have changed so much since the Alanna Nash book 😭 Like how I said he hated Priscilla and Ginger, that seems to be no longer the case, at least on his YouTube channel. I was so surprised when he praised them both in the YouTube video “Elvis’ relationship secret”. He even said Ginger was good for Elvis and that she loved him- I was shook because he hated her in the 90s!!! But anyways-I would say he is trustworthy and he was no doubt one of the dearest people to Elvis’ heart but it’s always good to take into account biases, and cross reference everything

To wrap this up- They have all told the good, the bad and the ugly, and as fans of Elvis it can be hard to accept the “bad and ugly”(like was he sometimes completely unreasonable, demanding, and temperamental? yes! but do we still love him? yes!) These guys just have such a unique perspective and we are truly lucky that they have opened up their lives with Elvis to us, even if it is stories that we necessarily don’t want to accept. But there is not a single doubt in my mind that all these men loved Elvis, despite what some of them have done, and that Elvis loved all these men. The documentary I linked above has made me cry every time I have watched it because they all cried in it and something about grown men crying just hits me different okay 😭
