this is just a theory of mine because these bubbles of the matrix should represent earthly desires. this is not to say that you can't enjoy things not listed in your category / under your energetic number. this is simply what i believe people with these numbers would enjoy receiving as a gift.

1 - the magician

Slasher U 1-Year State of the Union / Unholy Census!

Holy fucking shit we're coming along towards the 1-year anniversary of the release of the Slasher U Act 1 alpha!! We've come SO FUCKING FAR. Sawyer wasn't even a romanceable option back in the day! As of April 27th, it'll be Slasher U's first ever anniversary!

Mostly, I am SO FUCKING GRATEFUL that you all came along on the adventure to make my weird horny dating RPG a smash fucking hit!! Taking narrative seriously in dating/adult games was kind of my entire M.O (is?? mods??) and I am SO GRATEFUL Y'ALL UNDERSTAND WHAT I'M TRYING TO DO HERE lmao

THE BIG NUMBERS

As of 11:21 AM EST on 3/23/24, Slasher U: Act 1 has sold 6,100 copies across Steam & itch.io (Not including the copies sold as part of Games for Gaza that weren't redeemed/downloaded, so this only counts people who actually downloaded or bought the game!). This is obviously BEYOND MY WILDEST FUCKING DREAMS AND I CANNOT THANK YOU ENOUGH HOLY SHIT. I didn't even realize it until I added it all together. (On top of this, we sold several fucking tens of thousands of games for Games for Gaza!! Hell yeah!)

For my fellow solo devs out there, this comes to Slasher U making a total of about $6,000 + $2,000 net USD through sales (the former) and crowdfunding (the latter, for Slasher U: Act 2) over the last 11ish months!! The game started off being free for the first 6ish months, then went to $6.69 for the Beta (with dong! whoa!!), and now at its full size, stands at a good ol' $14.99 for 15 hours of primo datin' sim!

This is objectively the most money I've ever made off of anything I've developed in my entire life, and paid my whole ass rent for the entire year, so THANK YOU HOLY SHIT. According to Steam, most indie games barely break $1k in total, so I am AGOG. FUCKING AGOG. THANK YOU FOR LIKING MY GAME AND LETTING ME MAKE MORE VIA NOT DYING FROM CAPITALISM

The average review score, across 89 reviews on itch.io, remains 4.9 out of 5 stars, and we're rocking a 93% Positive on Steam!!

No, okay, but for real, I started working in games professionally in 2009 (yeah yeah i'm old. i am 32 and i am dying and they're coming for me in the corpse wagon etc) and I burned out in 2016 and came back two years ago with THIS THING and I can tell you RIGHT FUCKIN' NOW that, if you have ever wanted to make a game and the big guys aren't gonna do it, grab yourself and/or some friends and fuckin' make a video game. I have worked for a bunch of AA and mobile companies and I can tell you right the fuck now that this is the most fulfilling experience I have ever had writing a video game. I taught myself programming logic to make this thing! And sound design! I fucking learned to animate sprite sheets!! YOU CAN ALSO DO IT given the time and energy (pace yourself don't die)! And there won't be any execs around to tell you your weird niche game won't sell!! BECAUSE IT FUCKING WILL

Anyway, my entire career as a game designer, nobody let me write shit for them. You don't need permission to make stuff or write stuff. If you write it, they will fuckin' come, Field of Dreams style (also don't forget to tell everyone you made stuff and share it around. super key here. lmao). Turns out writing is all about sharing yourself with people, and who knows, you might just find that a fuckton of people ACTUALLY relate to you. (And that you're a pretty good writer. Which you knew. Yes, you. I am mixing metaphors and pointing to myself AND you now.)

Blorbos at Conference!

Long time, no update, but this project is moving forward! This weekend, we're at a conference hosted by the Society for Cinema and Media Studies, or SCMS, presenting as part of a panel devoted to fan studies.

Why do panels matter?

First and foremost, it's a way to get research before a bunch of other researchers while it's still in progress. This helps catch poorly formed ideas, surface new good ideas, and share what's coming up with the fan studies research communities. It's also good for our humble PhD student CVs!

The Findings

Of course, the most interesting part is what, actually, we're presenting, AKA the findings! They're a work in progress, and the hardest part is the coding (talked about here). Therefore, I'm focusing on what I could do deep analysis on relatively quickly. (note: these images don't have image IDs because I summarize them below, but they're graphic representations of what I talk about in the text).

The majority of survey respondents were young: about 39% were 18-22 and 32% were 23-27. A further 17% were 28-32, about 8% were 33-37, and then it got progressively smaller from there. Shoutout to all 3 respondents who were 63 and over! So glad you're here.

In terms of social media usage, most people used tumblr - unsurprising, since that's where we got our most traction for the survey. Discord was the second most likely. Part of a later analysis will be seeing if these terms are more likely to be used by different age groups or on different platforms, which is cool.

Almost everyone surveyed had heard of these terms. Blorbo was the most-used and meow meow was least used, but very, very few respondents had not heard of these terms at all. This may be in part due to how we used them in our survey recruitment, since we did want to find people who knew what these terms were so that they could define them for us.

These numbers slope slightly down because something broke when we imported them into NVivo (a coding software) and frankly I don't understand it well even when it actually works, let alone when it breaks.

Here's a little visual of the terms you suggested for characters. Unfortunately, NVivo crashes every time I try to exclude words from this word bubble (like "term"), so it's not as clear as I'd like it to be, but there are some interesting ones. Particularly interesting are the cluster of gendered terms; husbando and waifu, malewife, sexyman, boy, girl, etc. I want to do some analysis of this because it parallels some preliminary coding results. Y'all also really find your blorbos scrunkly/skrunkly/scrungly, huh?

I also want to figure out how to tell the visualizer that "glup" and "shitto" go together, because "shitto" all by its lonesome over there is cracking me up.

Qualitative Findings

Like I said, the coding is...so far from done. That's mostly due to some Ao3-author levels of life disruption from both of us. BUT! I can tentatively say a couple of things:

There are notably clear definitions about these terms. We weren't sure if there even really was a definition of "blorbo", but it clearly refers to a very specific kind of one-true-character. By contrast, comfort characters are associated with experiencing positive emotions, and meow meows are more likely to be evil or morally grey (but you love them though).

Unsurprisingly, your characters make you happy. We're distinguishing between general positive emotions, attachment, relatability, and one-true-character belovedness. Also sexiness, but that (surprisingly) hasn't come up that much.

There are a couple of ways in which darker themes come up. Villains remain beloved, but a recurring theme is also using tragedy or trauma in fiction as catharsis.

Finally, there's a lot of playful and tactile language. "Rotating him in my mind" really is that common.

Additionally, I'm really interested in the role of gender. Many of you referred to your blorbos/meow meows as your guys, with some of you clarifying that it was "my little guy (gender neutral)". Others noted that most characters you'd seen people describe as blorbos or meow meows were men/masc. This did not come up for comfort characters. Analysis of the characters you consider exemplars of each definition will help flesh out this analysis.

Still to Come

SO much. Who are these characters? Is a specific character exclusively a meow meow, or are they also a common comfort character? What types of positive emotion are associated with each type? Are these character types or do they speak to a fan's individual (or a fandom's communal) relationship with a character?

Additionally - we didn't ask about neurodivergence, but many of y'all referenced it. I'm looking forward to exploring that as well.

Me and @another-corpo-rat have been working up a cyberpunk 2077 AU for our girlies and its giving me so much life and so many brain worms !! Today I got out my watercolours n had a play around- I've not done tradional art in... *checks notes-* a good number of months - decided to do some painting because one of @nananarc 's gorgeous watercolours crossed my dash not to long ago and it reminded me that I have watercolours I can play around with <3 Viridian never has a good time when Victoria is around lololol

hello everyone!! i wanted to give a huge THANK YOU for joining us in celebrating the rare pairs of Spy x Family! to everyone who submitted and to all who have read or shared or commented, thank you so so much!!! this last week and everything leading up to it has been so filled with excitement and anticipation it's hard to believe it's already over.

The Boys Meet Paige | mackie and paige

here's how it goes when uminn women's hockey comes to umich.

mackie's pov

I've been buzzing all week with excitement because Paige is coming in this weekend for games and I'll get to see her. I text in the freshman group chat, hey, what are y'all doing this weekend?

Luke: nothing, why?

Dylan: ^

Ethan: nothing. what's up mack?

me: wanna go to the women's game with me? they're playing minnesota.

mark: sure.

Dylan: ok.

Luke: can I bring Stella?

Ethan: and can I bring Bella?

me: yea that's fine guys.

Ethan: this is the first time all year that you've wanted to go to the women's game, even after the four of us have gone quiet a few times. what gives?

me: my girlfriend plays for minnesota.

Dylan: you have a girlfriend?

Ethan: when the fuck did you get a girlfriend?

me: we've been together for 3 years next week.

mark: how did we just not know?

me: we don't really post our faces on each others instagrams and it just hasn't come up. so are you coming or not?

Ethan: hell yes.

mark: ^

Dylan: ^

me: game is at 7 and I'm heading over at 6:30 and sticking around after to see Paige.

Luke: kk.

the day of the game, I am bouncing off the walls being excited to see Paige. the boys and I meet up at the rink at 6:30 and Luke and Ethan bring Stella and Bella.

I have a uminn hat on (with her jersey number, 23, that she gave me for my birthday) to show support for Paige while also wearing umich stuff to support the school.

we grab seats in the front along the boards and Paige skates over to tap the glass in front of me with a smile. I smile back and hurry her back to the game.

she has one of the best games I've seen, scoring two goals and having an assist. even if they lost, Paige played great, having a hand in every goal.

after the game, I meet her outside the visitors locker room and she runs into my arms. I smile while holding her tight. I say in a whisper, "hey beautiful. I missed you."

"I missed you too mack." she whispers back.

I pull away and kiss her softly, smiling. I hear the boys gag which me flip them off. I pull away smiling and pull her close. I turn and say, "boys, this is Paige, my girlfriend. Paige, these are the guys. there's Ethan, mark, Dylan, and you've met Luke already. and that's Bella, ethan's girlfriend and obviously Stella too."

she smiles and waves. Stella smiles and says, "it's good to see you girl. you played great even if you beat us." Paige just smiles not really having much to say, she never does when someone compliments her. I press a kiss to the side of her head and smile.

I say to the guys, "I'll catch up with you guys later. I'm gonna hang out with Paige for a bit. I'll see you later."

the guys nod and head off with their girlfriends. I pull Paige in for another hug and say, "god I missed you much Paige. I love you."

"I love you too mackie. knies says hi by the way."

"I'll be sure to text him. I'll walk you back to your hotel." I offer to her. she smiles and nods and leads me back.

it's nice to get to spend some time with her since I don't see her much when we're both in season. I've missed my girl.

Logistical Transparency and Tournament Schedule

Y'all very much want a massive tourney situation, so here's how it's gonna go. (Bear with me, this is gonna get long, but I want to be perfectly transparent in how this is going to go.)

The submission form will stay open until 4:45 Pacific time on Friday, March 31.

On weekends, polls will go up probably around 9 pacific time, but it could be a bit earlier or later, my sleep schedule is weird and I'm not gonna set alarms for this.

On weekdays, they'll go up at around 6pm pacific time.

(Dates and times are subject to change. I'm one person running this, and life gets in the way sometimes)

The way the tournament is going to work will be as follows:

Stage Zero: Seeding (me doing math and logistics)

As I mentioned in the original post with the form, the submissions are ranked choice. First entries are 2 points, second are 1.5, third are 1.

Seeding will primarily be based on point total, with tie breakers going to total number of submissions. So far, this breaks all ties in the upper bracket. I'll figure something out if that changes.

(When we get to people who were only nominated once or twice, I'm gonna make calls myself. The number of unique characters has jumped up to 164, 78 of which have only been nominated once. Cuts will have to be made with no objective way to call it, and it's my tournament.)

The top 60 will get seeded into the main bracket- your standard 4 sets of 16, with the 16th seed in each being empty for the time being.

The 64 below that will be seeded into a secondary bracket.

I'll get it done Friday night/Saturday morning, so polls can go up the morning of April 1.

(I'm still working out the best way to separate the characters into the groups as fairly as possible. To some extent, I think a stacked quadrant is inevitable, but I'll do what I can to avoid that. I want this to be fair and fun.)

Stage One: Play-Ins (voting begins)

The lower bracket will be run in day-long polls up until we get to a final 4. Those 4 will be the 16th seeds in the main event, and I'll probably make the call for which goes where by setting up what I think would be the most interesting 1 vs 16 match-up.

April 1-4: Round One, one quadrant's 16 a day (8 polls/day)

April 5: Neverafter day, no new polls

April 6-7: Round Two, two quadrants' top 8 a day (8 polls/day)

April 8 and 9 is Easter weekend- no polls.

April 10: Round Three, Top 16 (8 polls)

April 11: Round Four, Top 8, (4 polls), winners go to the main event

April 12 is the Neverafter finale, I believe, so I'm going to take the rest of that week off, take a breath, and get ready for the main event.

Stage Two: The Main Event

Roughly the same schedule as play-ins, but without a weekend break. If there was a 3-day option for polls, the top 8 through the finals would be that, but since it's 1 day or a week, they're all gonna be one day except for the finals, which I'll extend to a whole week.

April 15-18: Round One, 8 polls a day

April 19-20: Round Two, 8 polls a day

April 21: Round Three, Top 16, 8 polls

April 22: Quarter Finals, 4 polls

April 23: Semi Finals, 2 polls

April 25: Finals! 1 week-long poll!

It's gonna be one hell of a month, y'all!

i was waiting at the front of the school with the rest of the entire school for them to open the doors

and what happened?

all the girls were screaming because of a fucking cicada.

my ears have hurt less from listening to death rock at max volume.

oh and uh it was funny bc at one point delgado started jumping up and down to catch the cicada lol

oh and speaking of him, when the staff let us in the school building we had to still wait in the quad(i think that's what we call it) for an other 20 minutes and it turns out i was sorta close to him and his friends while waiting and we made eye contact and he waved at me <3

and his friends kinda just like,, looked at me and i'm like uh hi?

RESULTS Fandom's Favorite HBO War Character (Round 1)

Thank you so much for the great responses to everyone who participated in Round 1 of the poll. 85 votes were cast in this round, which was way more than I ever hoped would participate! Also, your comments in the optional box and in my Tumblr notes are hilarious. Please keep them coming.

Not too many surprises in this first round, but it only gets tougher from here, folks! Some insights on the voting:

The biggest surprise was definitely the defeat of John Basilone by Ack Ack Haldane. This was a tough one!

The largest vote difference was between David Webster (98.8% of the votes) vs. Roy Cobb (1.2%) The hatred for Roy Cobb is noted and appreciated :)

Winter 2022 Anime Opinions

As always my thoughts because no one asked

From least to fav here are my overall thoughts:

Urusei Yatsura (2022)

I am just not the target audience for this. This is probably a nostalgia ridden show that people who watched the original will love and enjoy but I am not that person and with the two eps I watched I had enough. The jokes were not funny to me all characters were annoying and yeah the animation is nice but I will not put myself through something I will not enjoy for it tbh. Watch it if you liked the original ig

Tonikaku Kawaii: SeifukU

I dislike tonikaku with a passion it gives go girl give us nothing to the negative 20 no flavor no taste still the same shiz as the show so yeah. Watch it if you liked the series lmao its more of the same

Shinobi no Ittoki

I guess…… Its really kinda bland and I can’t pinpoint why. The concept is interesting but it just doesn’t hold up in its execution and I dont care for it run sorry do better I guess

Fumetsu no Anata e 2nd Season

I try so hard to care, SO hard. Since season 1 I have found this show to be kinda…. All over. Like the only storyline I cared about was the one with the kid with the mask last season and since that its just been meh to me. Like, we already kinda know how everything is going to go and all the arcs are kinda the same, they show us someone, we care for them for like half an episode, they die, repeat.

Bocchi the Rock!

I TRIES SO HARD TO CARE TOO I AM SO SORRY. This has been like the number 1 show this year but I… I dont know I just dont like it ASDFGHJ I am not a big fan of cute girls doing nothing specially mixed with the uwu social anxiety quirky. Like they dont paint it in a bad light like most shows do and the art style is very unique but I just dont… Give a shit adfgdhjf I tried I promise but hey if you are into this shows probs the one for you.

Mushikaburi-hime

This one is boring I am ngl. Its not bad but like… Its not good either. Ive seen this trope done SO many times its just boring. It hasn’t done anything bad per se but I just dont really care for it much. I like my romance with spicier ships so yeah I mean if you like cute royal same old same old couples then watch it.

Koukyuu no Karasu

I feel like this is a good show but I am just not the target for this adsfgh its a show you gotta pay attention to understand and a lot of history goes behind it and it just kinda bored me but I know its not bad. I just dont think its for me but that's okay I might keep watching it.

Eternal Boys

Its okay. Its a nice concept and I have only watched like 3 eps but its a nice message I guess. Its short and whatever so it doesn't take much time to watch but its not something revolutionary. I like idol shows so maybe I am giving it more than what it is.

Mob Psycho

This is the one that gets me cancelled part 2 SKSKSK. I am not going to lie besties, I am not the biggest mob psyhco fan. Its okay, I just never got into the hyper around it sorry :(( I really wish I could because I know its a good story and I ddi like that last episode a lot but like,,,,, I feel like the story was over last season ASDFGH But hey I am glad y'all enjoyed it a lot!

Boku no Hero Academia 6th Season

I am ngl, I am like on ep 2 of bnha season 6 but have seen the Dabi scene like 20 times thanks to social media and I got no choice but to Stan. I dont like this arc of bnha as y'all know but it seems more interesting than last season and I like the way the animation direction is going so I will give them points for it.

Do It Yourself!!

Lesbians your honor!!!! I like this one! Its cute girls doing silly lil stuff and I am not a big fan of the genre like I said but this one is more entertaining for me, maybe because I am more into DIY shit but its cute!! Nothing big happens tbh but its a soft watch to put in the background if y'all enjoy this

Romantic Killer

This was cute! A refreshing romcom from the ones weve gotten recently tbh. I liked it even though I have a different interpretation of the road they took it in the end but it was a fun show to watch with some nice gags and cute characters, defo give it a go!

Renai Flops

Okay hear me out. This one is in a weird place but hear me out. I hate everything this anime stands for because it was such a cliche weird and ecchi but it was such an interesting train wreck I HAD to keep on watching every episode and when I least expected it I was suddenly on ep 6 and the twist left me screAmiNG. It kinda goes downhill again after ep 7 but just because it took me so off guard (dont wanna spoil it but aloO) it goes high up, gg 1 for the ecchi trash 0 for Maria this round.

Yowamushi Pedal: Limit Break

Ngl this season of yowapeda hasn't been as hyped as I hoped for me but I care so much about the characters I will place it high up SKSKSKSK its basically more of the same; I honestly miss the upperclassman a lot but its okay my babies appear like for .2 frames and I start sobbing

Akuyaku Reijou nano de Last Boss wo Kattemimashita

okaY is this trash??? yes. Do I care??? nO. I LOVE MY SILLY LIL TROPES OKAY ITS FUNNY AND SILLY AND DUMB AND THEY ARE CUTE SO IT GOES UP OKAY I LIKE HAMEFURA WHAT DO YALL EXPECT FROM ME. still kinda trash but like, guilty pleasure trash.

4-nin wa Sorezore Uso wo Tsuku

THIS IS HOW YOU DO CUTE GIRLS (AND TSUKASA LY BESTIE) DOING CUTE STUFF IN A GOOD WAY. If you like Saiki K you'll like this show. I dont know how to explain it but it gives the energy from Saiki K and I loved it they are very important and relevant.

Spy x Family Part 2

Its more of the same of part 1 y'all know spy x family its a good show I love them all I love when my families are found go stream it look at Bond and Anya being best family

Tiger & Bunny

The gays are back for more and better! Not my favorite season buT I still care about them all so much that I dont care SKSKSK go stream tiger & bunny I dont have much more to say

Guys guys my favorite comfort soccer players are finally animated!!! Watch it. If y'all follow me y'all know I am annoying about blue lock. Its the only anime that has Bachira AND Reo imagine the odds!!! Its a great sports anime and the characters are great and I love it and its my comfort okay

longest fic: starry eyes stare through me (13.3k)!! s/o to all my AUFest 23 peeps it was such a great time and i wrote way more than i ever thought i could

shortest fic: irony (80 words) a poem for the 2015 tsukkiyama week, y'all haikyuu ship weeks were my shit theyre like a third of all my works

most hits: known alien, the one and only klance fic i published with almost 13k hits. yall she will not leave me alone. she never will. it's so funny to me that this is my most popular fic

favorite work of my own: yall how do i choose... like, to be honest. probably let's ditch the dance floor. it's so fun and probably the fic of mine i reread the most. last summer i was in the middle of that fic writer curse and feeling incredibly lonely and working on LDDF was good for me and really rewarding

fic you want to rewrite/expand on: okay im always expanding on LDDF because know she's a full fledged AU lol. i'd love to write another hunger games AU, or just more hunger games fic. little cousin of a friend, because i still have a lot of raf & alex thoughts. and all the fuckign AUs i always have floating around my head.

share a bit of a wip: okay the only stuff im working on rn are for Fic in a Box, so here's a snippet from a haikyuu/kiyoyachi fic i never finshed

“Michimiya-kun, Basketball Captain-kun,” Kiyoko starts, listing off Daichi's rather ridiculously long list of horrible, tormenting crushes. “NO!” Daichi cries, forgetting he was trying to say quiet, and falls back like Kiyoko shot him. “Bokuto-san,” Kiyoko continues mercilessly. Daichi covers his ears like he can block this out. “That girl from the music store,” She hasn’t raised her voice at all, she isn’t that cruel, but this is still funny. “That referee who found Hinata-kun for you that one time, that girl who bumped into you at the mall—” “Okay, she was really pretty you can’t blame me, you wanted to ask her out too.” Daichi defends himself, ignoring everyone else on that list, probably for his own peace of mind.

When did you start writing on Tumblr?

I started writing on an old, old single muse blog in October of 2018! I feel like most people have been roleplaying here a lot longer, but I roleplayed elsewhere prior to that despite being on tumblr generally since I was ~14.

3. Who are your longest rp friends?

My early earliest are @adcthamilton and @florietiae, but I also of course count you and @ahogedetective among my longest friends here too!!! I love all of y'all so much <3

5. Least favourite thing about roleplaying?

Oof, honestly it's nothing to do with other people, 99% of other people are lovely here. To be blunt, I hate how it often has to go on the backburner due to my mental health. I really don't have a least favorite outside of that.

7. NOTP for your muse?

I don't have a ton of NOTPs (outside of like, obviously gross stuff). Plus, what I consider a NOTP fandom-wise isn't always a NOTP with trusted mutuals in roleplay, if that makes sense? Like, I really dislike the fandom vibe around Shu.ichi/Kae.de and I don't generally ship it, but I'm more than happy to explore it with a trusted mutual. Same goes for, like, William/Van.essa on @spring-lxcked (tho I still won't ship Glitch and her).

9. What are some differences between you and your muse/muses?

This varies hugely between muses, but I'd say like. . . every muse I've ever written is more confident than me LMAO. Beyond that it's very, very muse specific. For example, muses like Frederick, Kok.ichi, and William are way more antagonistic than I could ever be, which is honestly fun to explore lmao.

11. Would you write with duplicate characters? How do you think your muse would react?

Generally I love writing with dupes with a different muse of mine. In fact, I personally find that writing with dupes helps ease any duplicate anxiety I might have. However, I'm usually not big on writing dupes against one another. There's exceptions to that, of course, but overall it's not something I'm usually interested in.

13. What’s one random headcanon about your muse that people mightn’t know?

Me when I post every headcanon the moment it pops into my mind. Honestly I can't think of any that I haven't talked about.

15. What do you look for in a rp partner?

When it comes to deciding to follow? That our writing style and rules are compatible + that they have muses I can see myself interacting with. Beyond that? Nice, shows interest in our stuff (talking in tags, showing excitement generally, liking posts, etc), and not super judgmental/negative toward others.

17. Least favourite trope?

I know I probably have something I don't like, but I can't think of anything I fully, always hate off the top of my head.

19. Do you listen to music whilst writing? If so, what kind of music?

Usually, yes. Either Lo-Fi or my extremely chaotic instrumental playlist. Lyrics usually throw me off lmao.

21. Are there certain characters that you gravitate towards?

I answer this the same every time but complex characters kfsdhfkshajskd. Like, the more complex their mindset / morals / actions, the more I am in love with them. I legally have to explore the complicated shit that comes with that lmao

23. Do you ever get jealous when rping? How do you handle this?

I firmly believe everybody does and anybody saying they never do is lying lmao. Honestly, I don't really do anything? I feel it, acknowledge that it's silly, and just. . . move on. It's not a constructive feeling.
