whenever hawke arrives at skyhold and learns that cassandra interrogated varric, i imagine their conversations going only like they would go with a cop and a lawyer.
cassandra says literally anything, and hawke leans to varric and goes, ”what did you tell her about X?” “i told you went into the Evil Cave and killed a bunch of folks there”, and then hawke would go “i went into the Evil Cave and killed a bunch of folks there,” without blinking, back to cassandra. every time she can hear the whole conversation. varric is just hawke's lawyer. they check their legend constantly. cassandra may ask what is in hawke's grocery list, and hawke would just instantly turn his gaze to varric. hawke literally won't agree to speak to any authority in skyhold without him.
