Have you noticed that Across the Spider-Verse stuff keeps popping up with Spider Socorro or similar tags, even if the content has nothing to do with Avatar? Am I the only one getting a little annoyed by this? I mean, I like that movie as much as the next gal, but I really dislike cluttered tags, so to speak. Do you have any opinions on this?
I have noticed that! Is is certainly annoying, but it tends to happen a ton with really similar tags like that :/ it's really bothersome but hard to avoid. I really try to keep my tags as separate as possible because I know it bothers me, but not everyone does, or maybe they click the wrong thing when it pops up, or they just get confused. With a character name like Spider, it's gonna happen lol.
Reminds me of the Fear the Walking Dead fandom when the show first premiered, and how even as a fan of The 100 (at the time, fuck that mess) and clexa, I was suuuper pissed at how every single post was just about Alycia Debnam Carey, Lexa, clexa, or just The 100 in general. I think someone was writing a long clexa fic about them finding each other and falling in love in the zombie apocalypse and tagging it and I was like gET OUT OF THE TAG, MY GOD, I WANT TO TALK ABOUT THE EPISODE. It's infuriating, but what can you do.

I chose Deidra, a sim I had created almost 2 years ago. I had created a save just for her, and gave her extended family members. She eventually fell in love with & married a townie, and when the Growing Together ep came out, she became my 1st sim to have an infant. They eventually had 4 kids!
1. What uncommon/common fear do they have?
Being alone. It led to arguments with her sister, Kendra, who felt Deidra rushed into a relationship with Stan because she wanted to get married & have a baby before it was too late.
2. Do they have any pet peeves?
Laziness. Deidra gets frustrated easily, & hates when others don't help.
3. What are 3 items you can find in their bedroom?
Baby toys (their youngest sleeps in their room), perfume & lotions, hair wraps.
4. What do they notice first in a person?
Probably how they react to her. She can be self-conscious, and seems to be on high alert & observes how people perceive her.
5. On a scale of 1 to 10, how high is their pain tolerance?
Maybe a 2. It's low. She's never had a major physical injury, and prefers to not deal with any emotional or mental ones.
6. Do they go into fight or flight mode when under pressure?
Absolutely flight mode. After constantly bickering with her sister, because Kendra didn't accept her now-husband, Deidra stopped speaking to her.
7. Do they come from a big family/are they a family person?
Deidra comes from an average sized family. She has 1 younger sister (Kendra), and 1 younger brother (Shawn), and even has the family oriented trait.
8. What animal represents them best?
Maybe a lioness. Takes care of all of the babies, hunts/cooks, and is the one REALLY in charge.
9. What is a smell that they dislike?
Trash/dirty dish water. It means someone didn't complete their chores.
10. Have they broken any bones?
No.
11. How would a stranger likely describe them?
Quiet, but nice. Seems well organized and put together.
12. Are they a night owl or a morning bird?
Night owl. Her mornings are chaos.
13. What is a flavor they hate and a flavor they love?
Deidra loves vanilla & cinnamon, and just the smell of pickles makes her gag.
14. Do they have any hobbies?
Reading and art/painting/sketching.
15. Boom, surprise birthday party!How do they react to surprises?
Pleasantly surprised, but anxious.

Not really. Maybe for special occasions.

Very neat!

The last time I played her, they were Flirty & probably some form of Tense.

Probably cotton. Simple.

When we pull into Chan’s designated parking spot I’m so nervous I could puke.
“Hey,” Chan says, gently putting a hand on my knee to stop its bouncing. “They’ll all love you just as much as I do. But if you still want to go home I’ll drive you ‘kay?”
“No, I want to meet them.” I force out of my mouth. He just nods and we both get out of the car and begin to walk towards the door. When he opens it, the first thing I notice is the smell of freshly baked brownies. Then, I hear yelling and laughing coming from the living room.
“YOU landed on MY property. PAY ME THE DANG FINE.”
Then I fear another voice scream
“YOU’RE IN JAIL! I’M NOT GIVING MONEY TO A CRIMINAL.”
“THAT’S NOT HOW YOU PLAY!!!” the first screams.
All of this over a game of monopoly?
“Boys” I mutter with a playful roll of my eyes. “I know right” Chan responds with a small smile.
Chan leads me to the living room. “Hey guys” he greets the six men casually.
“Hey Chan hyung.” one with mid length dark hair and glasses responds. “Who’s that?” he asks, pointing to me.
“This is Y/n. She’s a good friend of mine and older than half of you so show some manners and introduce yourselves.”
“I’m Jeongin” glasses says.
“Seungmin”
“I’m Felix”
“I’m sexy king Hyunjin”
“Man shut up.” the shortest says with a small laugh, “I’m Changbin”
“I’m Minho”
Then they go around again and tell me their ages. But I thought Chan told me they’re were eight members in his group? As I finish my thought, someone bursts in through the door.
“‘Sorry I’m late guys. Oh hi… what’s your name? I’m…”
“Han?”
There is a pause, a moment of silence, and for a second I regret saying anything.
“Uh yea, I’m Han Jisung. How did you know my name?”
“Chan talks about you gusy all the time. I just assumed it was you because you were the only one missing. I’m Y/n''
oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh there is no way HAN JISUNG the man who is (partially) responsible for my villain backstory is the eighth member of Chan’s band
“I’m gonna run to the bathroom real quick” I say, trying to excuse myself from the source of my impending panic attack. I speed walk to Chan’s bathroom and lock the door behind me. Once I get the feeling that I’m safe, I slide my back down the door and sit on the floor, bringing my knees to my chest and burying my head between them. Then I try to regulate my breathing before I start hyperventilating.
Breath in, one two three, breath out. Breath in, one two three, breath out
I repeat it over anad over again until my breathing is as regulated as it is going to get. Then, I get up and fix my mascara and blot away the bits that escaped with my tears.
I walk out of the bathroom and find Chan alone in the kitchen. “Hey Chan, I’m feeling kind of sick so I think I’m going to head home.”
“Are you okay? You were fine when we were at lunch.” he looked concerned. Great, now I feel bad for lying
“I just got really bad cramps out of nowhere. And you know I get crabby wehen I don’t feel very well.” I try to end the conversation quickly so he doesn’t catch me lying. “Oh, I didn’t know you were on your period. I would have just brought lunch to your place. Let me go get my keys so I can get you home, kay?”
My period? Ohhhh, he thinks I’m on my period. Thank God he thought I was on my dperiod because I hadn’t thought that far into my lie. While celebrating that little victory, Han walks into the kitchen.
“Oh hey. I saw you were looking sick and I wanted to come check up on you” he said while grabbing a soda from the fridge. “Yea I just have really bad cramps.” I lied again.
“That sucks,” he started, taking a sip of his fanta. “Hey, I was just wondering if you went to Fairview High School. You kinda look like this girl I used to hang out with.”
“Uh yeah, I went there. I thought I knew you from somewhere but I couldn’t tell.” I responded. ‘A girl I used to hang out with’ huh. Was I really the only one that was thinking about our relationship for the past seven years. Not gonna lie, that kind of hurt. Because up to a couple moments ago I thought very highly of Han, I still considered him a friend. Because he had been my only friend for so long, I sort of held hope that he would be my friend forever. But I was too naive, I should have known he would forget me. I mean, I’m not that memorable; but I thought I would at least be more than a girl he ‘used to hang out with.’
Not a moment later, Chan comes back into the kitchen with my shoes. “Oh, hey Han. The kids are waiting for you so they can start a new game of uno.”
“Ok. Nice catching up with you Y/N.” I mustered the nicest smile I could at the moment and responded with a bitter ‘you too’ before moving to hop off the counter to put on my shoes.
Chan holds me down by my knees and kneels down to lace up my converse himself. “What were you guys talking about?” he asked after tying the first shoe. “We used to go to the same highschool.”
“Cool, were you guys friends?” Chan asks, now finished with tying both shoes. “I thought so” I mumble, mostly to myself.

You had worked in the same bar for the past five years seeing the same people come in and out, and you haven't met the boss yet, but from what you heard he was dangerous, but that also could have just been the buzz. You were working one night, just trying to get through another shift without having someone grope you. You were cleaning a cup, when a man in a nice suit came up and sat down, he ordered his drink and you made it, and handed it to him, you could feel his eyes on you, and you didn’t like it so you said something. “Gonna pay extra for looking?” You asked the man, the other girl behind the bar with you stopped what she was doing and looked at you with wide eyes.
“What?” He asked with a deep gruff voice, deep with offense.
You folded your arms and looked him up and down. “Are you going to pay extra for taking a longer look than needed?” You spoke slowly as to demeanor him.
“You know who I am right?” He hissed.
“Yeah, boss, I just don’t care for asshols who don’t know how to stop looking or touching.” You answered, the only person that would come to this bar in that nice of a suit would be him or one of his men. “And what kind of man Karen.” You scoffed.
A smirk grew on Bucky’s lips as you argued with him, never had a woman told him to pay her for looking at her so to say the least this intrigued him. Then another man came in. He had shorter hair than Bucky and his hair was blond. The man whispered something into your boss's ear. “As entertaining as this is, I have business to deal with, Y/n.” He spoke your name, not even having met you he knew your name, and a wave of something hit you, and you weren’t sure if it was fear.
For the next few months leading to a year you and Bucky would have similar batter, both of you couldn’t stand one another but there was an underlying lust between the two of you as you would argue. One night was different, however, because that night Bucky told you that you needed to accompany him to a business thing since he needed a date, so you got work off rent free. He had gotten you a beautiful gown, that was green and gold, in some light it looks blue too, and some other things to go with the stunning dress, along with a hair and make-up stylist.
You didn’t think that, a year ago, calling this man out for looking at you for too long would lead you to going to a party that you a hundred percent didn’t fit in at. “You like the dress?” Bucky asked when he had picked you up.
“Yeah, it’s nice I guess.” You couldn’t hold the joke for long. It was a beautiful dress, and you thanked him for it genuinely.
Through the night when you and Bucky did your same bantering, which made the night even better.
A few days later Bucky walked into the club getting a drink. Most of the other bar tenders wouldn’t serve him because they knew he came for you, but another worker came up tonight. “Is she not in tonight?” He asked with furrowed brows, maybe he didn’t see it right when looking at the schedule.
“She never came in Mr. Barnes.” The worker answered.
That morning you had taken a shower right when you got up, then what to eat cereal, while watching T.V. when a knock sounded at your door your brows furrowed, when you opened it a man who had short dark brown hair and dark almost black eyes was on the other side. “Hi.” He smiled before my mouth and nose had a cloth over both of them, and the world went black.
Your head lulled to the side, your eyes opened, you were met with a pitch black room. You tugged your arms, finding them tied down to a chair. “Y/n Y/l/n.” The lights flicked on, and you saw the same man, you didn’t understand how he knew your name. “I can tell that you're confused. I’m Brock, and how I know you, I saw you at that lovely party the other night, with Barnes.”
“Look I and Mr. Barnes aren’t close, we argue and he just asked me to go to that party, we’re not really friends.” You scoffed, looking at the man.
“Hmm, are you sure that's how he feels, because what I saw with him that night wasn’t just someone he argues with.” He told you. Did Bucky actually find you attractive? Were you attracted to Bucky? Oh god you are, you are actually in love with him. “Exactly.” Brock laughed.
Immediately after hearing you hadn’t gone in at all at work that day Bucky knew you were in danger, he headed to your apartment, he got out of his car, he got into the elevator and called the man on watch for that morning, he had stationed people outside your apartment. “Did you see anything suspicious?” Bucky asked the man.
“No, sir I didn’t, I didn’t get there till nine because of an emergency that I got caught up on.” The man rushed out, which meant that there was a three hour gap for you to have been grabbed.
Bucky hung up and threw his phone at the wall in anger, he headed to the apartment that was yours, he knocked but there had been no reply, so he tried the knob, where the door opened, he walked in, looking in each room. “Fuck!” Bucky yelled, he went to the counter to calm himself down, when there was a note. ‘Docs tonight come alone, I know what she means to you - Brock’ Bucky cumbled the paper, he sped to his house to collect as many men he could, he couldn’t let anything happen to you.
“Buck, are you sure about all of this for her?” Steve asked.
Bucky looked at his closest friend. “Yes I am Steve, I don’t think you can understand how I feel for her.”
“Then let's get her.” Steve said before getting into a large SUV that Bucky would drive so as to make it seem he was alone, they took secret roads to the docs, his car the only one with headlights so it looked like it was only him.
He got out as did Rumlow, pulling you along with him, from afar Bucky could tell Rumlow had beat the shit out of you, to put it bluntly. “Pretty dapper for a meeting that could end my life.” You smirk saying as you would have if you were at the bar right now, it sounded slightly slurred and less confident, Bucky could tell Rumlow gave you something.
Bucky kept his cool calculating demeanor, but said. “You look like shit.” That made you laugh a lot. “What the hell did you give her, Rumlow.”
“It won't kill her, it just makes her loopy, it is however just below an overdose point.” He explained.
“What do you want?” Bucky asked from afar.
“What you have, all of it, your business, houses, hell even your money all of it for her.” Brock had a lengthy ransom, but if Bucky had come alone he would have done it for you, giving Brock every last cent he had in his wallet, to the man just for you.
“Where are the papers?” Bucky asked.
“Right this way.” Brock pointed to a small shack, Bucky was about to walk but Brock stopped to talk to you. “Barnes, you get her after.”
Bucky nodded, Brock seemed to have come alone, Bucky looked in the direction of his car, and nodded.
When Brock and Bucky walked in the shack you stood by the car, waiting, as you did the blond man walked up along with multiple others, but just as they appeared so did Brocks. “Fuck.” Steve hissed, grabbing you and running to the SUV.
“What about Bucky?” You asked.
“He’ll be fine.” Steve sighed as he sped away.
Brock smirked when he heard the guns start going off. “I see we both didn’t keep our promises.”
“Yeah, your laughable Rumlow.” Bucky hissed, as he pulled out his gun.
You walked around the living room of Bucky’s house, while a movie played, whatever Brock gave you made you just want to move so you just paced around. Soon the door opened, you looked and found Bucky. “Thank god.” He sighed in relief, he walked up and hugged you.
“If this is what it takes for us to admit we have feelings for each other, what's it going to be like when we get married?” You smirked. Bucky laughed, shaking his head.

Thirteen horror movies that scared tf out of me
Thank you so much for tagging me @talesfromthecrypts!! I wanted to do this so bad and put entirely too much thought into it XD
Rules: list thirteen horror movies that at one point in time terrified the hell out of you
Skinamarink - probably goes without saying at this point; not everyone is gonna vibe with the visual style, and it actually helped a great deal that I watched it with someone who was bored out of their mind by it while I was ready to start climbing the walls from pure fear XD A+, 10/10, hate thinking about this so much :P
Hereditary - also a very obvious choice but COME ON. This is THE horror movie for me. Literally rewired my brain chemistry; totally changed the way I think about not only horror, but film IN GENERAL, just there is SO MUCH MORE YOU CAN DO??? Also points for connection to irl trauma of mine AND being the only movie to date that has made me curl up in the fetal position on a theatre seat 8D that moment when you feel so viscerally in danger you want nothing more than to flee the theatre but you also NEED TO KNOW HOW THIS FUCKING ENDS (you're not gonna sleep for a while and you're gonna LIKE IT DAMMIT) also extra points for being able to traumatize people without them actually having to watch it :P
Jennifer's Body - yes, believe it or not, I watched this movie as a teenager and it actually gave me nightmares XD seeing Megan Fox fully unhinge her jaw with like a gajillion teeth just did something to my brain, man :P and in retrospect I don't think it was a bad thing
Saint Maud - excellent movie, highly recommend it. Had to include it on the list because even though it didn't necessarily scare me as I was actively watching it, it was the sheer impact it left behind with me that has me like, cool cool cool, I can never watch that again :P seriously, I didn't touch another horror movie for six months after I watched this one
A Cure for Wellness - WE STAN THIS MOVIE IN THIS HOUSE however it has to make the list purely because I actively had an anxiety attack while watching it :P
Sleepy Hollow - another one from my teen years; I absolutely love it, and it's one of the first movies I can remember genuinely scaring the shit out of me while still remaining fun to watch?? Like, first time I was scared while watching a movie and didn't immediately have the desire to shut it off XD
Suspiria (2018) - god damn you Luca you gotta stop making adaptations that leave the source material so far behind in the dust that I never want to bother with them ever XD this one makes the cut because I watched it for the first time at home, and it's the only time where I had to actually pause the movie three-quarters of the way through and just. PROCESS. love this movie so much, will be salty forever that it financially flopped
The Conjuring - THE FUCKING HIDE AND CLAP SCENE. LEGIT ONE OF THE SCARIEST SCENES IN ALL OF CINEMA. MWAH. CHEF KISS. AMAZING. I physically GASPED the first time I saw it and I think you could actually pinpoint the moment I sold my soul to James Wan forever and ever :P
The Night House - sometimes you watch a movie and you think, "holy shit that was good," and then a year and a bit later you have to come back to it just to see if it is, in fact, as good as you thought it was, AND THEN IT I S. There is a stretch in this movie where even on the second watch I don't think I took a single breath during it. Just UGH. CINEMA.
Smile - I literally almost blocked this movie entirely out of my memory, that's how bad it fucked me up. You know shit is fucked when you had planned for this movie to be part of a whole evening of horror movies, only after watching it you're so fucked up all you can do is watch a couple episodes of anime and then go straight to bed. Is it perfect? No, but it scared the absolute fuck out of me so on the list it goes
Speak No Evil (2022) - oh my god I can't even. jdskdlsfdsf. I watched this on a WHIM and had to walk around my house in circles after for the better part of an hour. There's an American remake coming out this year with James McAvoy and if they do this right OH MAN. OHHHHH MAN.
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003) - listen to me okay LISTEN. I LOVE THIS MOVIE SO MUCH. This was my first real slasher movie I ever watched when I was a teenager just getting into actual horror movies and IT TOTALLY SCARED ME!!!! AND I LOVED IT!!!! feel free to judge me because I hate the original while still loving this one LISTEN IT JUST DIDN'T AGE WELL OKAY :P
The Lodge (2020): hooooooo fuck. I don't even know what I can SAY about this movie other than WATCH IT. It's underrated as hell and made me feel emotions hitherto only experienced by shrimp. Major content warning for pet death though, like BIG time, worst case I've ever seen in that regard

He loves to lay on your chest and listen to your heartbeat.
One night, you accidentally drop him off five minutes past his cerfew, and stick up for him when his parents give him a hard time. Because of you, they only grounded him for three days instead of two weeks.

Although honestly, besides just being amusing, all the people judging people for being fans of certain characters in the Alice in Borderland tag just seem like...they have missed the entire point of the show.
I realize this is partly something that is much clearer in the manga, but it definitely part of the point that we are introduced to Niragi as a irredeemable villain and yet he survives and becomes...sometimes an uneasy ally, sometimes an antagonist, sometimes a foil for our main character. That he questions his worldview multiple times.
And Aguni, who is introduced as a similar antagonist. Don’t forget he supposedly intended to rape Usagi. And he was responsible for the violence and bloodshed of the 10 of Hearts game. But the whole point of that game was that it was his guilt and his pain for the things he’s done that were driving him to essentially mass murder and suicide.
And yet the second half of the manga spends a lot of time redeeming him through his relationship (fatherly) to Akane and Doudou (rip for his nonappearance in the show).
And Chishiya is a terrible person throughout in the manga but does eventually show growth.
The story is VERY concerned with showing us why bad guys are the way they are with their backstories. And that anyone in certain situations can and will do terrible things. Even Arisu, in 7 of Hearts in the manga, intentionally takes the wolf and hides from the others because he’s scared. He decides he should be the one to live. He CHANGES HIS MIND, tho once he gets past the fear of death. That’s how he is able to win Hearts games, because he wants to beat the game and save people more than he wants to live, ever since 7 of Hearts.
But the story is also telling us that while anyone can do bad things, anyone can stop doing bad things and come back from it and rejoin community and find love of whatever kind.
Even Aguni. Even Niragi. That’s WHY he survives. That’s why there’s that moment when he says he’s rethinking his life. It’s not because the narrative is trying to say he wasn’t really bad or actively really trying to redeem him. But it’s trying to say it’s POSSIBLE. And it’s valuable that he is still alive because people should have the chance to change.
And yes I’m saying “in the manga” a lot. I do (mostly) like the show, but it muddles some of this stuff with their characterization changes. They made Arisu much “better” of a person with a lot less range, and Chishiya in particular is super softened.
But seriously you should not be able to look at ANY character in this show and see that their hands are clean of blood. They have ALL made selfish decisions that cost others their lives or they wouldn’t be alive. Arisu and Usagi are the least stained, I suppose, but Usagi was very cold and self-focused when we meet her and I talked about Arisu already.
So throwing out ice cold takes about how I can’t believe people like “X Character” after they did “y” is just...reducing a narrative about the nature of human capacity for evil and goodness and the importance of surviving in order to have a change to improve into...idk a Chick Tract or something.
It’s so very indicative that someone is twitter poisoned when the only way they can conceive of interacting with fiction is as a stan or anti and as a moral statement about the viewer.
Anyway, read the manga people it’s so fucking good. (I’m rereading it now, which is why I keep going...AND ANOTHER THING about the show.)

Just thought I should share, the one person that argued with me came back to argue more. Their whole thing was that my point wasn't what you guys were actually saying, and that I was just back peddling more, blah blah blah. And then it just struck me. I'm using JC stan talking points of "ignore their words and actions, look at the deeper meaning behind it all" and they are using your guy's argument of "but that's not what the actual text that they wrote said." This is kinda a pot meets kettle situation, but overall I think it just goes to show that if JC was an actual person and not a purple fantasy man they would hate him since they don't actually seem to be able to practice what they preach in regards to looking for deeper meaning behind people's seemingly rude actions. As far as they're concerned I'm an anti instead of a neutral party that watched everything go down in real time. Doesn't matter how many times I repeat that literal book quotes got people hate messages, I'm just one of you guys that want to bash JC despite never posting anything before the tag was invaded. If I'm going to be lumped in with a group though at least it's the one that can see the humor in these kinds of parallels.
It is definitely an interesting and humorous level of irony that we are essentially having to use each other's arguments. And I am sorry that you got dragged into this when you really were a neutral party pointing out events that went down.
I went and looked at your debates with the person involved and I think that you were very reasonable despite them being jerks to you. I'm quite impressed with the points that you've made in fact, especially pointing out that them flooding the tag with ship content is also not canon, as it frequently involves Jiang Cheng being shipped with characters he has little to no interaction with. Is there no respect for him chasing the clan leader who's regard and alliance he most wants; Jin Guangshan? Where are the fics with those two?? /j
I admire your fortitude in dealing with people who refuse to ever consider that they are in the wrong despite all evidence to the contrary.
(also while I know the poster will never see it, as the "creator" of the tag, why does it matter to you so much what tag name I put it under? don't get me wrong, i enjoyed reading your takes & i'm posting them under the cut for anyone who wants to read such rants, but, at this point, with so little content, i feel like there's not really a lot more i can personally add to fandom critique that i haven't already said (discourse and metas anyone can find if they go through my designated tag).
so i hope you won't feel offended & this is 100% a helaemond blog but i am going to pause the shipping wars topic for the time being unless something fresh hits our port or we get some kind of news / additional content (maybe like scripts? would love to see those!)
it's been more than a year since the season ended and we've made all the arguments we could possibly make, but we can't control if there are users who still rehash the same three talking points over and over

Idk how many chances the ships still has if the leaks about B&C being at the end of episode 1 or in episode 2 are real (I doubt there can be a romance after the event), but whatever happens people won't stop shipping it. Non-canon pairings have always been a thing in fandoms and sometimes they may even be more popular than canon ones. It's still baffling to me how hated this ship has become in the fandom though.

It's a non-canon ship, people are drawn to all of the potentials they personally see in this dynamic, and how it can be explored in fan content. Shippers like this very rarely care about canonicity - not to say they wouldn't welcome it of course on the off chance it happened, but that is not a priority of their engagement in fandom.

Who Makes You See Color (A CaptainCroc Soulmates AU Fic): Chapter 13
Hello, darlings, you all are about to read one of my favorite chapters! This is the one where Killian finally gets his turn at being yeeten, so you Killian stans (folk of good taste, if I may say so) better gird yourselves. Gold woke up feeling…fine. His neck was sore from sleeping on the couch, but the low mood and general ache were both gone. He felt a bit foolish for calling off work, and wondered if he’s just been overreacting.
He decided not to call Roger in. After all, it wouldn’t really be fair to him to go back on a day off. Gold would rather work, though, and it might be nice to have the shop to himself again.
As he was walking to the shop, bundled into a thick overcoat and a dark blue scarf, he passed by Doctor Whale. “Mr. Gold, if I might have a moment?” he asked, his voice shot through with the fear Gold associated with those trying to get an extension on their rent. He did own Whale’s apartment complex, yes, but as a doctor, Whale had never been one to fall behind on payments.
Gold didn’t really like Whale, and was loath to give him a second thought, and yet he stopped walking and gestured for him to get on with it.
“Roger Davies was recently brought into your employ, was he not?”
“He was.”
“Late last night he went into cardiac arrest. We were able to resuscitate him, but his condition is…not good. You should start looking for a new employee.”
Whale moved on, not having a clue what he’d just done. Gold stood there, numb, for a moment, processing what the doctor had said. Roger was too young to be having heart trouble. It didn’t make sense.
Gold shook himself out of his daze and wasted no more time getting to the hospital. Fortunately for him, he was well-feared enough that nobody dared to keep him from going to Roger’s side.
His condition was poor enough that he was in a room all by himself, not recovering in a group like the patients who had a chance. It was quiet, except for the sounds of the various machines that were hitched into his veins and shoved down his throat. After living in Storybrooke for twenty-eight years, most of which he had spent unaware that these machines were anything new to him, the medical devices used in the land without magic still frightened Gold. They seemed so invasive and unnatural—but if they could keep Roger alive, then they must be good.
“Roger, you don’t get to die,” Gold said. “Do you hear me? You’re going to see the curse broken, and I’m going to tell you how much I love you when you can understand what it truly means.”
Roger seemed alright, other than the machines. Gold hated when internal things went wrong; injuries where he could see blood or bruising made sense, they looked real. Internal wounds were mysterious and always seemed so out of the blue.
Maybe...it wasn’t really. Gold hesitated, then put his fingers to his own wrist. It was difficult for him to judge it accurately, so he took a deep breath and placed his hand over his chest.
There. Buried beneath his own heartbeat was a second. The curse must be weakening; he hadn’t felt a second pulse since being brought to Storybrooke. (He probably would’ve thought he was insane, if he had.)
Roger’s heart—Killian’s heart—did know him, after all. His pain had found its way through their link and been subsumed. Gold shook his head. Killian Jones would’ve been able to withstand it; he, too, was immortal, and he, too, had been through a lot in his life. But Roger Davies had no clue about any of that. He believed that he was a simple, mortal man, and a mortal could never bear the pain of an eternal being. His heart knew well enough to take the pain, but his head knew little enough to be brought low by it.
“Damnit, Killian,” he sighed, squeezing Roger’s shoulder.
“Gold.”
Emma Swan stood in the doorway. She had been more confident, lately, and Gold had to admit she was a good sheriff. That might be a problem for him. “Yes, Miss Swan?”
“One of the nurses called. She said you forced your way into this patient’s room?”
Gold laughed quietly, shaking his head. “That may be a bit of an over exaggeration,” he said. “This patient is my—my employee, Roger Davies. I merely wanted to check on him. We’ve…become friends, in the past few weeks.”
Swan seemed to be testing her superpower on him. Her eyes narrowed. “Then why did you call him ‘Killian’ a minute ago?” she asked.
He couldn’t admit to believing Henry’s theory, even if it was the truth and he knew it. He was suspicious enough in general. “I believe you’re mistaken, Miss Swan,” he said. He put every ounce of Rumplestiltskin’s lying ability into that one sentence, hoping it would be enough to fool her. “Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a shop to open.”
After that day, the shop was a less interesting place to Gold. He couldn’t look at a lamp without thinking of how carefully Roger cleaned it, or even at the windows without remembering how handsome Roger looked with his sleeves rolled up to scrub them. He developed a raw spot on his finger from twisting the ring Roger had given back to him, which he found himself doing whenever he missed Roger.
It was often.
His trips to the hospital were regular, but not too frequent, to avoid drawing attention from Sheriff Swan. He could hardly believe the way time seemed to just move on without Roger. It didn’t seem right. Gold’s world stopped for him, so why shouldn’t everyone else’s?
There was never a single day, in all that continuing time, when Gold visited Roger and didn’t repeat those three words. Roger might die without knowing it, Gold could never be sure, but he could at least try to make him understand.

I won't say there will be nothing in the tag, but per the strong feelings of others I respect, as of this post I'm done talking about the contedversy 2022 (you're welcome for the term lol).
I've said what I've said. It's not impossible that if pressed I may defend my own conduct. If I find notable, and I do mean substantial information in future, I may share that. Naturally, I may reblog what others have to say if it seems fair and relevant.
But I agree that all the salient points have been made already, and this isn't a stan blog by any stretch of the imagination. I woke up to notes from folks joking (?) about going to war over this and honestly? I see the good intentions, but still. Don't.
If you see misinformation, correct it with the truth as best you know it. I'd suggest doing it quietly. This has died down pretty nicely and I think we'd all rather keep it that way and not have another smattering of nonsense tiktoks from people with nothing better to do than pretend they have an educated opinion to give, or worse, have this reach twitter and insta and end up getting actual notice but still without proof of the allegations.
I stand by my statements. If anyone sees any firsthand accounts, please point me that way. I'm not done trying to understand what the hell happened. If I don't understand by then, I'll be headed to the smallest con I can find next year that the man himself will be at. I might even attend MM.
Above all, please be kind to yourselves, and decent to others. Maintain your own mental health. The truth will out, whatever it is, and the initial push that was needed against misinformation is done.
I truly appreciate everyone who shared relevant knowledge, asked honest questions, was willing to sit in that messy and uncomfortable position of uncertainty with me and others, and/or stepped back when feeling the need. I'm grateful for the people who read and said nothing, but at least set eyes on the matter before making your own decisions. Especially, I thank Vice for being on a call with me for literally 13+ hours in a single day, staying up for way too many hours when we should have slept, while we did our best to make at least some small difference.
We waited two full days after the initial claims for people to come forward and stop dancing around the "maybe I should talk about what I saw" nonsense. I don't believe either of us specifically planned to speak out about those at all, and had planned to wait for more info. But when the further fear-mongering resulted in no answers but a wave of hysterical rumor quickly growing less and less grounded in truth, we pushed back. It wasn't nice. I'm not sorry for that.
You'll get what you get from this blog. Sometimes when irrationality is afoot, you're going to hear strong language or abrasive statements. Some of them will be calculated, others may be genuine. I'm a human person too. We've all got lines, and mine got crossed, so you got what you got yesterday and it's back to business today.
So.
Time for a Hackearney drabble or two to cleanse the palate, I'd say.

Hey please don’t say Sebastian isn’t hot bc of his facial prosthetics to look like a man with Neurofibromatosis Type 1. I know you wouldn’t find me attractive bc I have facial deformities as well. You might make a post about it if you saw my face in public. You can certainly think he or me is ugly, but don’t voice your opinion. It’s extremely hurtful
Sebastian is making that movie to raise awareness about the treatment of disabled people, he’s working alongside actor Adam Pearson, who has Neurofibromatosis Type 1. And your only reaction is to say “stop this madness” and wonder why he isn’t hot anymore. Please don’t

thank you for bringing this to my attention, anon. i saw the picture of sebastian in A Different Man on twitter while stepping out of work and made what i thought was a silly joke about his looks just based on my own first impression and kind of forgot about it until i read your ask. I didn’t even know anything about the movie itself before i did so, and that’s my fault for not doing my own research on something that clearly grabbed my attention enough to post about it, and for not examining why i reacted the way i did before immediately jumping to make fun of his looks. if i wouldn’t post about someone with facial deformities in real life, then there’s no excuse for me doing so about a movie, especially one rooted in a real life condition like neurofibromatosis.
i haven’t been able to find much information about the movie itself online beyond the basic synopsis, but i tried to find some interviews with adam pearson regarding nf type 1, and found one in particular about his movie Under The Skin with s. johansson, and he talks about how the fear of the unknown causes us to cringe away from or poke fun at differences that make us uncomfortable and how facial imperfections ranging from scars to the tumors caused by nf type 1 have been used as shorthand for evil in film for ages. stating that this was “madness” was definitely a visceral and shitty shitty reaction on my part especially because i made no effort to even know what the film was about and wrote it off as something i wouldn’t be interested in watching bc an actor i find attractive no longer looked so to me in a single photo - which is a discredit to the story itself but also just the purpose of acting and making movies as well, which is not just to see hot people on screen.
i’ve never thought that conventionally ”attractive” features were a measure of hotness, but even that doesn’t take into account people who are born with or develop deformities or traits or disabilities outside of what is still largely considered the “norm” - probably because i’ve never had to consider them before in any capacity more than a vaguely abstract knowledge that they do exist. I’m sure there are more and better resources out there, but it’s late and i didn’t want you to think i was just going to delete the post and then ignore you, so this response acts as a stand in right now for my commitment to do some more research this week and learn more about the prejudice people with nf face - especially from people like me who think they’re making a harmless little joke. I’m not sure if Under The Skin is a good place to start given the main actress, but I’ll try to find some place to watch it or find more of Pearson’s work that might be better for educational purposes.
finally i just want to say i’m sorry to you, anon, for consuming content irresponsibly by not knowing what exactly i was making fun of before posting, and for the hurt i caused you by stating sebastian stan and adam driver weren’t hot because they looked visibly different than usual (whether that be a deformity or signs of aging bc just because someone doesn’t look 30 years old doesn’t mean they’re inherently unattractive). i’ll be more careful with the things i post and next time i see something that makes me uncomfortable i’ll remember this moment and ask myself why i feel that why, and what has taught me to react that way in the first place. I hope you have a good night, and thank you for coming into my ask box and teaching me a lesson.

hii it's the same anon from rose's blog hopping over here because your tags on that mari post are so. yeah. it IS an inevitable car crash she is creating that which destroys her BECAUSE she's so scared it's so!!!! and YESSS there's a REASON why there are only two people she regularly like. makes fun of or snaps at and it's because everyone else will bite back in some way, because they know and she knows that she IS so close to the bottom of that totem pole. it's something she does out of social survival but it's both obvious enough to everyone where her position in the group is that it's kind of futile, and it pisses enough people off that it's probably dooming her further. thank you fellow mari warrior for your service she's so funny but if i think about her too long she makes me sad

anyways ur last line is soo real. mari reminds me so much of jackie in the sense that they’re literally just sad teen girls!! yes ofc everyone else is too but bc neither really contribute majorly (in both the literal sense of contributing to the group the way nat-as-hunter does, and in the driving the plot sense the way lottie and tai do), their characters feel so much more grounded and real. bc without the possession and dreams and sleepwalking and relationship drama, everything's stripped away and you're just left with a scared teenage girl at the centre, desperate to survive. but mari lives when jackie doesn't bc mari does adapt!! mari moves with the status quo, and mari sides with power. and yet! she doesn't have that power herself! she's shielded by it at times, but she's not holding the shield itself, so ofc it can always be used against her. which is the whole point! nothing she does is enough to save her! mari, to me, feels like a character who barely scrapes by, if that makes sense? or like, a character who is at least never close to being on top. a real 'i submitted the assignment five mins before it was due' beat. the 'i made the cut off, made it into the next round, but ranked in last place' special. aka: she's doomed! she's a car-crash girl!
and sooo true about the futility of snapping at the only two people she can...like who is it helping/hurting, exactly? crystal & misty didn't really give a fuck because they were *secure* in themselves (see: not minding the taste of snackie, wanting to make snackie broth, generally being unapologetic), and also had each other. mari has akilah, which i don't think is enough (esp now that akilah's integrating herself into things, and has been given a reason to get home lol), and mari isn't secure! she's defensive when ben questions the cannibalism, she makes awkward jokes about it, she shot down the broth idea, she clings to whoever has power even when it seems like a sinking ship (insisting on the competition rules when there was a moose to save), she desperately needs a leader. as you said, being mean to crusty - while #valid - is like, 'oh look, i'm not your number one target, look at these two losers, i've got power and status over you two, this makes me (feel) safe'. but mari IS the loser in everyone else but crusty's stories lmao! all she's doing is just making that clearer!! it's not only futile but also like, incredibly short-sighted: what does she think would happen if crystal and misty just stopped existing? who'd be on the bottom then?
so yeah i'm v v v excited to see her maybe get even more bitchy now that crystal's gone, i think (hope) it'll shake her. she's operating on a whole different dimension of fear lmaooo, she's gonna be scared for normal reasons (someone is missing/dead) AND bc she's another notch lower on the totem pole now!! and she'll know it!! the literal only target she has left is misty, who is a) about to be useful and deliver a baby, and b) potentially at her most fragile (not emotionally, just in terms of looking suspicious & her role in the group being less secure bc of it) in the wake of crystal dying. so i wonder how that'll effect their three seconds of shared screentime dskdkfdsdfmf. i think they're really similar honestly, in terms of understanding the power of power, control, status. can a weirdgirl and a hatergirl ever be friends? not in this cabin unfortunately </3 (idk if you've seen it but misty's actress was like 'yeah if crystal hadn't befriended her she probs would've ended up snapping mari's neck' lmao)
