I AM LOOKING HARD AT YOUR ZENITH BETA ARTWORK I've always kind of disliked the idea of zenith!Beta because I feel like the strongest and most compelling aspect of Aloy and Beta's sibling relationship was how Aloy is Beta's Rost. She is now the few-worded, directive, somewhat brooding protector to her assigned charge. And despite the debatable blood relations, their family. It's a prefect way to wrap up Aloy's arc and showcase how deeply important they are to each other. They NEED either other. I felt like Zenith!Beta storylines took away from that because if Beta already has the skills to basically overpower the world that Aloy struggled and struggled to conquer. (This option is subjective, people are allowed to like this trope even if I normally don't.)

BUT, BUT--- The premise you have set seems SUPER FUCKING INTERESTING. The hinted at the dynamic between Beta and Tilda. OH MY GOD, and Aloy basically having to slowly "wake" Beta up from that delusion. Oh, baby. I always give extra appreciation to creaters who can take a trope/take/plot that I don't like and make me fall in love. You haven't even written anything yet (or showcased stuff u have written), yet I'm passionate about it all the same. That being said, don't pressure yourself to make this idea of yours a reality just cuz I would love to see it. It is your story and there are many more important things in life than fictional characters (unfortunately). I just wanted to take the time to let you know how much I appreciate your WIPs and works (both art and writing) <3

Hi!! Thanks!! Honestly your problem with zenith!Beta is about the same as mine (not that I’ve read anything that’s out there). She is so essential for Aloy’s development and the story of FW in general. Also I love Beta and this AU is just hey what if everything about her was different? Your point about Aloy being Beta’s Rost is also 👌

That said, this time Aloy’s realisation about not being some sorta spiritual carbon copy of an innately righteous and strong person, and that actually her family and friends and choices made her and she has an identity of her own, comes not from Beta being seemingly ‘weak’ and stuck in hopelessness and dependent on others, but from Beta acting straight up evil. This person is the opposite of everything Aloy believes Elisabet was (and therefore made her). She’s like, how could a clone of Elisabet be so apathetic? she’s so mean 😭. Forces her to look inward in other ways haha.

Then of course it’s not reaalllly like that bc Beta is so completely brainwashed that she just doesn’t get it, and Aloy slowly realises that too. She’s stunted in a very different way to canon Beta, and comes in confusion to concepts like empathy and trust and hope from an antagonistic angle rather than a compassionate one. Which makes her the most annoying person ever to exist. The Tilda relationship is also Worse. As you can imagine.

I’ve written like a tiny tiny opening for this and have some rough notes, but it’d be long :( and I’m like do I realllyyy want to write another long story about a sobeck clone interfacing w zenith tech. And Tilda, can I bear to write more of that asshole? I’m not sure. That said it would be different stylistically bc I want to do first person (idk if you’ve read the Murderbot diaries, but those are the vibes). It’s an opposite character evolution from against the lightning in a way lol. I reckon I still want to write it

Buttt many more important things than fictional characters (unfortunately), as you say. So sad. I had (was forced) to take a few weeks off work a couple months back and spent almost the whole time just writing. I was so pumped about this other story and was like surely I’ll keep this up. Haven’t fuckin looked at it. Work is 😫. And I’m looking for a new job. Ugh. I am a constant knot of anxiety.

Hiii, Cherry!!! Thank you so much for the ask 💕

I’ve been writing fic/long form stories for about 2-ish years now, I think. Before that I’d written mainly poetry, personal essays, etc. where creative writing was concerned. Idk, narrative fiction always really, really intimidated me haha. So I kinda found my way to it through fan fiction—like, everyone just seemed to be having a good time creating fan works and that made it feel okay to join in without much pressure to be Good™ (idk if that’s exactly how I want to phrase it, but hopefully that makes sense).

Aghghhhhh TROPES. Hmmm, probably obvious but I reaalllly love Partners (platonic & romantic), and also Idiots to Lovers. SoMa and DeathStar are top ships for me, after all. As far as story-lines uhhhh idk. I think I honestly write more based on vibes than story-lines sometimes? Like, I’ll think: what tone can I communicate with this scene or with this dialogue or with this environment? That’s pretty non-specific of me, but as long as there’s a partners aspect there are lots of story-lines I’d write about (especially if I was a faster writer lol).

With my 2022 Resbang I was drawn to Dorohedoro as an AU because the manga is SO unique and weird and created such specific worlds. I wanted to recreate that vibe more than the story-line (which is technically a mystery/crime mystery in a comedy-horror world). Plus there’s the built-in partners aspect. Like, parts of the plot/story-line are reflected in Chaos for the Fly, but I won’t ramble on about that here because Dorohedoro is bonkers and explaining it is like that meme of Charlie Day in It’s Always Sunny.

With Big Time, I really just saw the pilot episode for the BBC show Starstruck and wanted to translate the meet-cute to SoMa, and recreating the scene/vibe in the nightclub was something that I didn’t have to think about as much as actually coming up with a story-line. I did have to create the partners aspect there, though haha. I mean, I initially wrote this to take a break from writing heavier stuff, just for some one shot rom-com fun. Fast forward to me deciding to continue Big Time further than a one shot and struggling because I don’t know exactly where I want to take it plot-wise.

but yeah, honestly I can see that. Syntax having a hard time consoling you especially given his knack for isolating himself all the time. So, unless the issue is something he can relate to or he's well-rehearsed in, you probably won't be getting much comfort. Poor guy has had little time to socialize and connect with people for the past few years and just now it hit him. He has no idea what to say, what to do - his mind is a fucking mess.

Of course, that's all happening in his head. His outward demeanor is that of a statue with a twitch.

Definitely will try to give you an outlet. If he knows you well enough, he'll mention/demand you should go distract yourself with your hobbies. Syntax doesn't really trust himself to take care of you, fearing he might make it worse.

However, if he really knows you, like you guys are close...

He'd know exactly what to do. He'd know based on how much you like/dont like physical contact, if you like words of reassurance or appreciate gifts more.

He's trying.

And YES, HUGE BOOKWORM ALERT. Syntax can and will binge your entire shelf in one sitting - if he hasn't done so already.

Prefers to read with you instead of alone.

Syntax's first time reading with your company made him realize how much he liked it, so he rarely reads outside of your little get togethers. He doesn't mind even making some food beforehand to snack on.

And damn, this guy has to listen to himself talk and endure all the little nagging thoughts in his head 24/7.

So yes.

Syntax adores hearing your voice. Not only is it a good distraction, but when he's working it helps him focus, strangely. When he's in a tinkering mood and you're in a storytelling one, Syntax will offer his chair for you to relax in as he works. One time you refused, just to see his reaction. Asshole looked you dead in the eye, fed up with your bullshit (he'd had another falling out with Huntsman earlier). Without a word, Syntax picked you up and firmly sat you on his desk, squeezing your waist by way of warning.

Sit there, and talk to him.

You did.

I mean, you had a lot on your mind. Syntax is really good at giving advice when you're not in tears, anyways.

sorry you're having a bad day i hope things get better for you soon !! <3 currently poking my braincells with a stick to think of some pangzi headcanons for u so far ive got pangzi keeps a notebook with a list of the foods that xiaoge seems to like the most (because he wont say it out loud) and leaves lil notes about changing the recipes and when xiaoge eats more second im thinkin about iron triangle sharing clothes because wu xie and xiao ge both like sleeping in pangzi's shirts, they have an aesthetic to maintain in public but they love that the shirts are soft and warm and smell like pangzi (they also like taking all of his shirts to leave him either shirtless or in one of their shirts which is tighter and shows some tummy)

finally my favourite pangzi moment is when wu xie jumps over a table and he reaalllly slowly rolls over the table too but he just pauses for a moment on his back sort of like a ladybird with his legs up and then says 'what youve never seen someone so agile' because i had to rewatch that like twenty times when i first saw it

feeding xiaoge proper meals is very important! he's got to make sure he's gained a few pounds before he leaves on another job, he shouldn't be able to survive on protein bars and whatever crap they usually eat on tomb raids. he has no choice to keep notes of what makes xiaoge stuff his face like a little chipmunk and ask for seconds and what makes him scrunch up his face in disgust (this is of course barely an expression but pangzi catches it always) it also means a lot to xiaoge of course that pangzi takes it so seriously 😔 who loves like pangzi does, honestly... 😭

also totally yes to them stealing pangzi's clothes!!!!! they're big and warm and soft and smell like him yes yes!! also ggnngnf to pangzi wearing their stuff... yeah bet they're as normal about that as i would be (which is Extremely NormalTM)

The table moment is so incredible. I wonder if there's anyone in existence who can see that and not instantly fall deeply in love with Pangzi. He's the best character ever uff... I love him.

If Reylo becomes canon and if it's endgame/Kylo doesn't die, do you plan to follow the SW EU content which would probably include them, in the future?

Apart from enjoying the especially good bits people bring to the fandom, not really, tbh. I’ve never been much for the EU (except games), the films were a satisfying and complete story I was content with and mostly the added stuff didn’t appeal. And for my shippy fix, I’d rather read fanfic that is full-blown romance. I’ll stay vaguely abreast and probably check out anything that peaks my interest if it comes recommended. It depends on how they approach it.

Like I’ve said before, I don’t have high expectations for Ben’s characterisation being on point in most EU content. It hasn’t been so far. It’s very possibly not only that people don’t confront his contradictions enough and really think about his reactions rather than simplifying him down to a more familiar type, but maybe that he’s one of those characters where official stuff purporting to be continuing for-realsies-canon genuinely needs the actor’s input for the whole person to ring completely true even if what’s on the page is bang on. Or someone who has studied him and writes physicality in character detail at a level that really isn’t genre typical and I wouldn’t expect from most commissioned tie-in authors.

This example is probably useless to 99% of people reading this, but I’m thinking of Malcolm Tucker from The Thick of It. There’s text-only material ‘written’ by him and there’s an in-universe book, etc. and all of it is by the same writers as the show- but he never feels quite like himself. It lacks the spark of life. There’s this ineffable missing element, a counter-intuitive warmth and nobility with which Peter Capaldi plays him (and which the writers obviously never had in mind before he was cast) that gave him unexpected humanity and tremendouscharisma. The edge that made the character iconic (imo) is partly the total, ruthless cynicism of the writing being ever-so-slightly compromised by the insuppressible loveliness of the man playing him.

#he was supposed to be a monster but he ends up an anti-hero and takes over the whole show #it might have started just from PC being the nicest human being on the planet #but it ends up as a very interesting commentary #he's polite and compassionate to 'real people'#his PA #custodians #etc.- he only treats politicians like drunk toddlers who widdled on his shoes #people who signed up to live in the rat pit #it gives the character an inner life #that and his being one of only two characters in the whole series who actually put a principle before their self interest #anyway Ben is written to be complex all of that is on the page #but so far it seems like they need Adam there to translate and convey it correctly #to understand how he works #that he has this gravitas in spite of his childishness #that stillness is very important to him even though he's so impulsive and physical #AD's presence seems to have a chilling effect on these dumb impulses #to overplay the villain trappings #to give him super on-the-nose dialogue or make his emotions theatrical #I mean I guess i have no way of knowing for sure #but I reaalllly get that impression even from the filmmakers #like he might have easily been a little douchey and more cliche if not for having an actor with Weight preventing them #from succumbing to temptation or taking shortcuts #Jason Fry said this too didn't he? the performance changed how he saw the dialogue a lot #the eu #ben solo

there are maybe other reasons for this like the fact that i’m now more invested in the characters and sw as a whole than i was in 2015, but tlj felt much less magic than tfa and that makes me sad

#like tfa captured how magic the originals were and tlj didn't reaalllly do that #mostly bc it felt so different from being like a star wars film #i suppose with the dialogue being so general it felt less like the gffa #anyone in any verse could have been having those conversations #that bothers me bc i love how charming and magic tfa is #sw #axo speaks #i mean.... i liked tlj a lot but it's got gaping flaws to the extent that i kind of regret that it's forever part of the saga #and most of that is the dialogue

Hi! If you don't mind me asking, what are the three princes like? I always see stuff about them and I really want to know more (I know they don't have routes yet) but I was wondering what are Silvio, Keith and Gilbert's personalities like based off of what is given so far in jp? I reaalllly like silvio aesthetically, but I'm curious about who he is and what the other two are like. Anyways thankyou!!!❤️

ヾ(°∇°*) Their character introductions describe the princes as follows:

Gilbert: Absolute Evil X Trampling. At first glance, he looks harmless. But he’s the king of trampling*. A symbol of evil that has everyone cautious and fearful, he has a secret that will get you killed if you find out. *overpowering and conquering the weak.

Keith: Gloomy X Beastly. He’s quiet and gentle, but keeps a distance from everyone. Sometimes he can be ruthless, as if he were a different person.

Silvio: Tyrant X Favoritism. A proud and flashy man that takes control and gets what he wants through money and violence. However, despite his arrogant act, there is one thing that he fears...

Meanwhile, my impressions based on what crumbs Ikepri has given so far. Whenever I end up unlocking their stories in the community function, hopefull I’ll learn more.

Gilbert: - Definitely a scary, unsettling individual with the way he’s able to threaten others or speaks “kindly” with that smile on his face. - Very effective in slaughtering people who are either after him or are an embarrassment to Obsidian. - A genius at the same level as Chevalier. Like Cheva, he can think dozens of steps ahead and seems to know everything. - Manipulative. Throughout Sariel’s route, the times when Gilbert and MC were alone, it felt as if he was trying to sew seeds of doubt about Sariel and convince MC that he is the devil. - Refers to the people he favors as his friends. The sentiment��s not exactly mutual.

Keith: - Pretty much what his description says. Reserved individual, but is kind-hearted. - Polite and a bit awkward. - Gets embarrassed when complimented. - But something unknown triggers his other personality where he’s rough and domineering, and then he seamlessly transitions back to soft as if he were playing with the individual the dark side appeared for.

Silvio: - Distrusting toward others. - Rude AF. - Arrogant and entitled. - By no means a fool. - Can use his money and connections to unperson someone that threatens the reputation of his country. - Has manners when it suits his reputation I guess 🤔 What I mean is that when MC was sick in bed with a fever, he was one of the people who visited her and brought exotic fruits as a gift. The words that come out of his mouth could be better though lol.

A Silvio moment: After Rio “accidentally” spilled champagne on Silvio in the Act 2 prologue, he pretty much demands that MC and Rio serve him until he’s satisfied. In Sariel’s route, two days after the end of the prologue, he rudely wakes MC up by banging on her door to serve him breakfast. He had hired someone to get the best ingredients and tableware for a bougie breakfast (granted, the day before, he was almost forced to eat Clavis’ mystery gelatin). “It’s a small price to pay for safety and comfort” (valid I guess). And then has MC set the napkin on his lap.

what about a scenario where val was in a pissy mood, s/o tries to comfort him but he just blows up. yelling, throwing his arms up, those annoyed piercing glances,all that and s/o starts to argue back then he says something reaalllly hurtful and there's just a moment of silence before s/o says, "I want to be alone" and storms off. how would he go about making it up to them?

His outburst hadn't really frightened them, they'd seen him get mad, it was very rare he got mad at them and this was the first time he had turned his often cruel words on them. What he had said had been deeply personal and he knew the subject was taboo - he knew what it would do to them.

All they had wanted to do was calm him down and make his evening a little better. Something had happened at the Studio that had him in a mood all evening - most of their offers to help were met with sharp glares and even sharper words. He'd gone too far and if the widening of his eyes and intending of his body was anything to go by, he knew that too. "Baby." He started and reached for his S/O, grimacing when his hand was batted away, "Honey bee, I didn't mean it - C'mere, lets just start again-"

"Fuck you, Valentino." His S/O hissed and headed for the door.

"Y/N, sweetie," the Overlord made to follow but had to move quickly to dodge the vase S/O threw his way angrily.

It smashed against the pillar behind him, the water splashing the back of his coat, "I wanna be alone."

"...Ba-"

"I said leave me alone!" And with that they left.

Valentino figured they'd come back once they'd cooled down. Then he would apologise, maybe use a little of his power to persuade them to forget about that ugly little scene. He didn't like to do it to someone he actually cared about... their relationship had always been good, nothing artificial, no acting or fake respect. He truly adored them.

So having them not come home for a week and blocking him on every available platform was driving him insane. He had the entire city searched until he found his S/O was staying in a hotel. Valentino told the Hotel that he would be paying for everything, the stay, room service, anything at all. He called seven different florists and had flowers, hundreds of them, sent to his S/O, and called jewellers and fashion houses to send extravagant gifts.

There was no response and everything had been sent back.

For his S/O, Valentino has learned he will beg. No one else in all of hell could do that to him but there he was, knocking on their door, on his knees, begging for forgiveness.

He'll do anything they want, just as long as they go back to him.

long story short: you're dating Adam, the summer of 2021 allows for a camping trip during the offseason with Adam's best friend Brandon, Adam really reaalllly wants you to go even though you don't really want to, so you do, and you three end up in a polyamorous relationship.

with that context, there's some snippets in my process tag

BUT I'm assuming you're a sak reader and know nothing about hockey, so if anyone else is in that boat and is willing to brave reading something entirely out of their fandom I made you guys a lil primer on Brandon and Adam under the cut!

Okay so we have Adam Lowry: - currently (and has always been) on the Winnipeg Jets, number 17 - 28 years old - An aries haha - has a super hot girlfriend but totally besides the point here - his nicknames are usually just variations of his last name like Lows, Lowsy - oh fuck okay I forgot to mention he’s American but moved around bc his dad is a former nhl player/current coach so from my understanding he’s grown up mostly in Canada (Calgary specifically) - fun fact his dad is actually the coach of the Jets now as of like last week which is not included in the universe at all but is funny to me personally!!

if his gf ever sees this (god forbid) i'm so sorry I know she's a super private person but the gifs I saved wouldn't work and that boat photo is like the exact essence of him in this fic. Like the hair and everything just.... chef's kiss

and Brandon Tanev: - I literally just typed this whole thing and tumblr deleted it okay UGH - WAS on the Winnipeg Jets and was best friends with Adam (Adam taught him to eat mustard packets on the bench and they also did a Skip the Dishes commercial together where they stage kissed???? why????!) - they were linemates (meaning they were on the ice together at the same time and worked closely with each other) - In 2019 became a Pittsburgh Penguin, now he's technically on the Seattle Kraken but that fact doesn't exist in this universe. Also he's number 13 - 29 years old - Capricorn - His nickname on the Jets was Rusty, but the Penguins already had a Rusty when he moved there so he went by Turbo on the Pens, which is good to know bc nicknames are used in the fic - Still good friends with Adam, they talk about each other in interviews and comment on each other's instagram posts and stuff - OH ALSO has an older brother named Chris who plays for the Calgary Flames. But he's barely mentioned but just so you know - ALSO born and raised in Toronto (Canada) but ended up going to college in Rhode Island on a hockey scholarship before ending up in Winnipeg

He currently has longer hair (like shoulder length) but his essence in the camping fic is the shorter on the sides but floppy on the top look!

And this is really all you need to know to read the fic lmao, there is no actual hockey played in it. There's a passing mention of a Jet or two I think, but nothing that will affect your experience at all if you don't know them. I think I also mention Sully very quickly in the fic, which is the Penguin's coach.
