daniel ricciardo please tell me charles did not get into an argument with carlos.
teagan horner charles did not get into an argument with carlos. carlos got into an argument with him, two very different things.
max verstappen what was the argument even about?
charles leclerc doesn't matter it was bullshit.
mark webber clearly not, if you two came to blows.
pierre gasly carlos said he was shit driver and and that he only had the red bull seat because he was 'fucking horner's slut daughter' or that was the tailend of what i heard.
pierre gasly not to mention he punched teagan in face because she stood in front of charles hoping to stop the situation.
alex albon well i'll be damned.
yuki tsunoda so we all follow that one gossip account? because i know none of you were near when this happened.
liam lawson i do. how else am i supposed to find out that fernando alonso was visited by taylor swift last week in austin? daniel ricciardo it's fun to follow them. one time they said max and i were hooking up, we weren’t, but i liked the tweet to fuel them more. pr was not happy that week.
mark webber christian's been awfully quite this entire time.
max verstappen we're planning on how to torpedo into carlos in brazil. i'm the sacrifice because i've already won the championship. checo perez he supposed to fail at getting pole position in quali next week to end up behind carlos. sebastian vettel pulling a kvyat i see, i respect it max verstappen the only time i'll do something like kvyat. yuki tsunoda HE PUNCHED TEAGAN?! WHAT THE HELL?? WHERE IS THIS MAN?!
liam lawson yuki, think about your actions. charles is getting fined for what you’re thinking about doing (i think)
yuki tsunoda do i look like i give a fuck?
pierre gasly we ride at dawn!
mark webber you two are perfect for each other
sebastian vettel YOU’RE IN A MEETING GET OFF YOUR PHONE GASLY!!!
yuki tsunoda that should be your sign gasly, come back to alpha tauri! daniel can take your seat at alpine
daniel ricciardo hell no. i saw what they did to my fellow aussie, oscar. do you think i wanna get sued by them?
teagan horner we’re back, carlos is still pissed but so is my dad.
mark webber how’s your face after that punch?
teagan horner i have a sick black eye. i look like i got in a bar fight. i got the proper texas experience. christian horner this isn't a laughing matter teagan. you could've been seriously hurt. sebastian vettel he's right teagan, it could've escalated to something worse. max verstappen so is the plan still on to crash into carlos or not?
charles leclerc not, i want to do it. who gives a fuck on where i end up in the drivers championship, i'm already p7. let me do it brocedes style.
daniel ricciardo ah, 2016 spainsh grand prix, those were good days.
sebastian vettel you got p4 and max won daniel ricciardo they were good days because both mercedes dnf'd
max verstappen he won't do it
sergio perez i'll gladly help, we can have a repeat of yesterday.
charles leclerc deal and sorry about that, again.
sergio perez it could've happened to anyone, besides it was my fault
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
alex albon so...talk about a dramatic brazilian gp
lewis hamilton why is it always thing 1 or thing 2 starting the awkward conversations? lando norris they have nothing better to do alex albon listen here you muppet!
logan sargeant (i'm so sorry lewis) it's giving brocedes 2.0
nico hulkenberg be grateful you weren't around then sargeant. those were dark times.
lewis hamilton i feel like you're being a little dramatic about it.
kevin magnussen we aren't. everyone walked on eggshells because of you two. toto could never seem to catch a break.
fernando alonso it seems you're the old one lewis, if your memory is failing already.
lando norris kinda surprised it took this long for those two to go at it a la brocedes
charles leclerc i was sandwiched, what was i supposed to do? crash into checo for the second time in a row?
carlos sainz not crash into me. you had no problem crashing into sergio last week.
charles leclerc well, checo is the one retiring this year, not you. you'll have plenty more races.
carlos sainz since when do you call him checo?
carlos sainz and i was on pole! i could've won!
max verstappen at charles' expense no less
george russell "horrified looks from everyone in the room"
daniel ricciardo i don't know if i should be impressed that you know taylor swift lyrics lance stroll coming from the guy who sang our song in an interview word for word last month. daniel ricciardo at least i wasn't the one spamming the groupchat with taylonso memes
lewis hamilton how did this become the mess it has?
fernando alonso this is the only time i will ever wish sebastian was still driving. at least he could control these baboons.
nico hulkenberg who are you calling a baboon, nando?
fernando alonso if the shoe fits, nico, if the shoe fits

Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
pierre gasly i will be throwing hands with fred and the rest of ferrari’s f1 team, starting with carlos.
alex albon but we gotta give charles credit, defying team orders the way he did in vegas? respect, it further proves ferrari would keep sacrificing his race even if he was on pole and leading the majority of the race.
liam lawson what did we expect? it's ferrari, and that strategy was a shit one, even i know that. charles had been leading for 35/50 laps and they wanted him to let carlos through? who was down in p6? yuki tsunoda ferrari has shit for brains pierre gasly and it's not like carlos would've been able to make it past checo, oscar, danny, and max to get the win. in the end, lando and alex overtook him, alex who's in a williams! you would've given me a few more laps and i could've overtaken him.
daniel ricciardo also, rumor has it that piero ferrari is like super pissed they let charles go.
mark webber of course he’s pissed, charles was their golden boy, he won monza. the first to do so since 2010 when fernando had won.
liam lawson i think the biggest fuck you to ferrari would be having charles win both monza and imola
sebastian vettel i like this kid, where did christian find you?
pierre gasly outside of yuki’s home. he picked him up by the scruff of his neck and said, “i want you to be our reserve driver at alpha tauri” liam lawson he found me in a dumpster outside of his home. sebastian vettel i hate both of you
teagan horner i thank god everyday that there is only one race left until the season is over
Tumblr media
¡leclerc-s speaks! would carlos ever act like this? probably not, doesn't mean i'm going to stop writing it this way. i think people react in different ways when they're hurt and unfortunately in this fic carlos is lashing out. don't worry, i'm going to fix their relationship, just not for now, i like drama. would any of these events happen irl, no way, but what's the fun in fanfic if you can't exaggerate events at least a little?
¡disclaimer! this is in no way making assumptions about the people involved in this story, this is all fake. it is a fanfiction please don't take any of what is said seriously. this is all for entertainment purposes and as a creative outlet for me. enjoy!

General Series Masterlist
part one — part two — part three — part four
a/n this chapter is mostly trevor centered
— — — — — — —
Trevor woke up in a leather recliner in the back corner of Y/N’s hospital room with an IV in his arm, presumably filled with sedatives to calm him down. The weight of the world fell off his shoulders when he heard the now comforting steady machine beep of his girlfriend’s heartbeat. He looked over and softly smiled when he saw that the breathing tube was out and replaced with a nasal canal.
He slowly got out of the recliner and dragged the IV pole with him to the chair next to Y/N’s bed. He bent down and softly kissed her forehead before sitting down and grabbing her hand.
“I never thought I’d be so happy to see you laying in a hospital bed,” Trevor whispered. “I’d like it better if I saw those pretty eyes of yours, sweet girl.”
Trevor sighed and felt his eyes watering. He missed Y/N. An unbearable amount. There was only a small period of time where they went without seeing each other. Or, talking, since he does go on extended roadies.
It was killing him.
Trevor didn’t get too long alone time before the rest of the worried mob rushed in. Quinn was ahead of everybody, but Jamie was a close second. Quinn joined Trevor on the side of Y/N’s bed, and Jamie positioned himself at the foot of her hospital bed with both hands on the rail. His head drooped down and tears began to fall.
“I thought I lost her,” Jamie spoke through tears.
Trevor got up immediately to comfort his friend. Quinn took his place in the seat next to Sissy, but not before noticing the IV bag following Trevor.
“Z?” he spoke up. Trevor turned to him and Quinn motioned towards his IV.
“Oh… I uh… apparently had such a severe panic attack and was fighting with the nurses that they had to sedate me instead of giving me an anxiety pill,” Trevor explained. “I’m glad they called you when I asked. Actually, that was all I was asking.”
Everyone had filed into the room by now, so Ellen went to find a nurse for Trevor to check him over one last time before removing the IV. Trevor was glad to be rid of it, but he wasn’t glad about the nasty bruise it left behind. It was tender, but it wasn’t anything he wasn’t used to.
“How are you guys?” Trevor asked the group.
“We made it through the night,” Alex said. That answered Trevor’s question perfectly: not well.
“Barely,” Quinn admitted. He spoke so low that Trevor barely caught it.
“I couldn’t hear anything after Quinn said that Y/N died. I guess it was an anxiety or panic attack… I don’t know. I’ve never really had one. All I know is that Jack had to stop me from running out of the house,” Jamie opened up.
“I threw up,” Quinn added to the sharing.
“I cried on the roof,” Cole said.
“I just… felt numb,” Luke said.
No one really wanted to open up, but it needed to be done. They were all in the same boat.
“At least she’s breathing better on her own,” Jack said in an attempt to shed some light on the situation. The monstrously fucked up situation. A nightmare.
The second official day of Y/N in a coma was proving to be worse than the first day. Especially since her heart stopped the night before. Every moment there was a fear that it would happen again, and that she wouldn’t pull through that time. Every beep on the machine was like a sigh of relief. It meant she was alive. It meant there was a chance that she would wake up.
After a while, Cole asked if he could have some time alone with Y/N. He and Alex were the only two that had not gotten a chance to speak to her in hopes that she could hear them. They were the only two that hadn’t gotten a chance to get everything out without everyone being around.
“I don’t know how everyone else did this,” Cole huffed out a fake laugh. “I guess it’s not too different from when we’re talking to you and you’re too distracted to listen to us.”
Cole sat on the edge of her bed and brushed her hair back, despite the fact that it was already tamed and perfectly in place.
“It was weird not watching a movie with you on facetime last night,” Cole continued. “Turc and I didn’t know what to do. Z offered to show us the list of movies you have planned for us to watch, but I said I wanted to keep the surprise. So you have to wake up before next week, okay? I know you wouldn’t want to get too far behind.”
Cole closed his eyes to keep himself from crying. He knew he should get serious. He knew that he needed to get everything out just in case something like last night happened again. He wished he didn’t have that fear. He wished he didn’t feel like he was holding his breath every second waiting for something to happen.
“My life changed when I met you. All of ours did, but I’m not here to talk about them, am I? I’ve known Jack for a while, but I didn’t meet you until we all went to NTDP, and I wish I met you sooner. You’re like… Wonder Woman. You’re compassionate, yet stubborn. And you will go to battle for the people you care about, which is honestly everyone you meet.
“I can’t think of another person less deserving of this than you. Especially because of the time of year it happened. Only Z and Jamie will be with you until we play against the Ducks, and I think that’s what gets me the most. Besides the whole… well, you know. I love being your best friend number two, and no matter what happens, no one can ever take that away from me. From us. I hope you know half the league asks us about you every day. Suzy demands that he gets hourly updates.”
Cole was saying anything and everything to keep from breaking down, but it was no use. He couldn’t get any words out now from how hard he was crying. He climbed off the bed so that he could lay his head down on the mattress and sob. Jack tried to run in, but Cole turned him away. He needed to cry it all out. Y/N’s constant saying that “the break will be harder the longer you keep everything in” was proving to be correct. He hadn’t let his feelings out all the way, yet. And the break was brutal.
The person that Cole did eventually let in was Trevor. Trevor got it. Trevor got him. Trevor sat down quietly next to him and waited to be needed. It didn’t take long for Cole to need a hug, and Trevor was happy to give it to him.
“We’ll make it through this,” Trevor told him. “I promise. No matter what. We’ll all still have each other.”
“But we might not have Sissy,” Cole sniffled.
“Careful, or I’ll tell her you used your once a month Sissy passes,” Trevor tried to joke. It fell flat, unsurprisingly. “I’m choosing not to think about losing her. I know our girl. I know my girl. She’s randomly flown to Van Couver to see Quinn and forgot to tell me. It scared the living shit out of me, but she came back. She always comes back.”
“She always comes back,” Cole repeated, more to trick himself into believing it.
“That’s right, buddy. She always comes back.”
– – –
Right outside Sissy’s hospital room, Alex was freaking out. He was struggling so hard at the idea of talking to Y/N like it might be the last time he’d ever talk to her alone again.
“I can’t! I can-” Alex was cut off by him choking down his own cries. He felt like he needed to scream. Jack and Quinn sat on either side of him and did their best to comfort their friend. “I can’t talk to her like I’m going to lose her. But if we do, and I don’t, then…”
“It’s alright, bud,” Quinn said, putting his arm around him. “She knows. She always knows.”
Quinn was interrupted by his phone ringing, so he stepped away and let Jack continue to help Alex. He was better at playing Sissy anyways.
“Matthew?” Quinn answered, confused. “Did I forget to update you?
“I’m outside the hospital,” Matthew said, not really answering his question. “I couldn’t stand it anymore. I kept hoping that she’d facetime two days ago, even though I knew she wouldn’t. I already talked to my coach. I wasn’t playing well with her on my mind. I need to be here.”
Quinn understood. He more than understood. He understood more than Matthew did.
“It just… it wasn’t a call I was expecting to ever get. And I really didn’t want something worse being told to me over the phone,” Matthew elaborated. “Can you come get me?”
“Yeah, I’ll be there in a couple minutes,” Quinn said before he hung up.
Quinn told Jack that he was going to get Matthew so that he could subtly let Trevor and Cole know. He really hoped that him being here won’t take away anyone’s ability to be vulnerable, but Matthew was just as important to her as almost anyone else, despite him not being in the “group,” for lack of a better term.
When Quinn returned with Matthew, Cole and Trevor were out in the hallway.
“We thought you might want a moment alone with her,” Jack told him.
“Just don’t confess your love to her. She might leave me for you,” Trevor joked. He was proud of himself for getting a small smile out of the clearly distressed man.
“I’ll hold back, just for you,” Matthew countered before entering the room.
Matthew’s breath hitched when he saw Y/N. Not so much as a picture was sent to him. Quinn told him that she looked worse with a tube down her throat, so he was glad that she was just left with a nasal canal now. He sat down next to her, but he didn’t hold her hand. It didn’t feel right to him. It felt like it would solidify the idea of her dying.
“Hey, little mouse,” he sighed, tearing up. “It’s uh… your rat. Or I guess sometimes you call me Ratty, or Matty, or Matty Rat, Matty Ratty, anyways– whatever you’re in the mood for calling me, it’s me. Fuck, this is hard.”
He was crying silent tears now. Y/N really was in a coma. He knew it before, but seeing her makes it a hundred times worse. He’d known her for five years. He played along to her silly little school girl crush. He bought her flowers for her sixteenth birthday because she asked him to come to her party! He watched her go through her teenage years, hell– she still is one, and now he’s praying that she’ll make it through the night. He’s praying that she’ll wake up.
“I’m sorry it took me so long to get here. I was trying to still be a leader for my team, but even the coaches knew I wasn’t playing like my usual self and let me come here. I can’t even imagine the pain everyone else out in the hall for you is in. Especially Quinn and Trevor.
“You don’t deserve this. I’m sure if you can hear, you’ve heard just about everyone say it, but it’s true. I don’t think anyone else would drop everything and fly to Calgary just because I’m playing against one of your friends, and I know you do that for everyone else, too. You’re a light, little mouse. For everyone. It’s getting too dark without you, so you need to wake up, okay? You’d do anything for the people you care about and that’s what we all need. You.”
Matthew finally caved and took a hold of Y/N’s hand. His tears were dropping more fiercely now, and her touch helped a little. He smiled when she squeezed his hand. Quinn told him that she might do that and it’s all subconscious, but Matthew couldn’t help but hope it was because she heard him.
– – –
The parents went to acquire lunch for everyone, and while they were out, the boys all went into the hospital room. Cole, Alex, and Jamie didn’t really know Matthew, so they were happy for the distraction of younger teenage Sissy stories from before they met her. Jamie especially, because he didn’t meet her until a few months ago. And yet, they already loved each other. That’s how special Y/N is.
“Wait, so she actually fell over the couch trying to talk to you?” Cole laughed. “How have I not heard this?”
“Because Mr. Boyfriend here doesn’t like discussing the little mouse crush era,” Matthew laughed.
“That sucks, Z, because I need to know everything,” Alex said.
“You know some of it,” Trevor mumbled. “Even when she moved to Michigan and met all of us, she still fawned over him at first.”
“Wait, you’re the Matty she couldn’t stop talking about?!” Cole shouted. “This makes so much sense!”
“She practically begged him to come to her sixteenth birthday party,” Quinn told the group.
“She tripped when he came through the door,” Jack snicked.
“You went?” Jamie asked. “Weren’t you in the league by then?”
“I was playing in Calgary,” Matthew explained. “It wasn’t too long of a plane ride and the date worked out, so I couldn’t bear to say no to her.”
“He bought her flowers and I got nothing,” Jack added, jokingly sounding bitter.
“I could go buy you something from the vending machine down the hall; would that help? Clearly, you’re still upset over your lack of a sixteenth birthday present,” Matthew teased him.
“It would,” Jack said. Matthew laughed and pulled out his wallet to give Jack his card. “Thanks, Matty!”
Silence lingered for a bit when Jack left. It started with Trevor. He stopped smiling and brought his girlfriend’s hand to his lips and lightly kissed each knuckle. Everyone saw it and just couldn’t find a reason to laugh anymore.
“She squeezed my hand,” Matthew said. “I know it doesn’t mean much, but there’s hope, right? It was after I finished speaking. So who knows? Maybe she’s getting closer.”
Trevor sent him a small smile and nodded his head, which was the best he could offer.
“I hope she can hear us,” Trevor said. “I hope she knows how loved she is.”
“She knows,” Alex said, mirroring Jack’s words to him. “She always knows.”
What Trevor didn’t tell the group is that Y/N squeezed his hand after Alex finished talking. Maybe Matthew was right, maybe she is closer to waking up.
– – –
After everyone left, Trevor was too drained to stay up. Luckily, the nurses were kind enough to keep the recliner in the corner of the room for him, so he laid it back and tried to get settled to get some sleep. He stayed on his phone scrolling aimlessly for a while before eventually passing out.
Sleep wasn’t kind to Trevor. He was plagued by endless nightmares, none of them allowing the sweet release of waking up. Over and over again he saw and heard Y/N dying. One mirrored the actual event of her flatlining, in another she woke up and died in his arms, and another she didn’t even make it out of the car. After a second showing of the actual event he witnessed the night before, he finally shot himself awake. He was panting, and he was sure that a scream escaped his lips. He wildly shook his head to try and find Y/N, and the sound of her heart beating steady brought him some ease.
He walked over to her and sat down to grab her hand, “Just keep that heart beating for me, okay, sweet girl? That’s all you gotta do.”
Trevor smiled to himself when she squeezed his hand again, but he tried to not get his hopes up. It didn’t mean anything. It was mere coincidence.
What did mean something was the soft groans that escaped her lips.
“Y/N?” he asked urgently, standing up. Nothing. “Sissy?”
His hand was squeezed again and he heard muffled sounds coming from her. He swore he heard her say “don’t call me that.”
“If you’re awake, I need you to open those pretty little eyes for me, sweet girl,” Trevor said softly as he stroked her hair. “I know it hurts, but I need to see them.”
She groaned heavily, but began to flutter her eyes open, “you’re bossy.”
Trevor collapsed into his chair and heaved the biggest sigh of relief. He took her hand in both of his and held it up to his lips, pressing a firm and lingering kiss on them and allowed the tears to fall.
“You’re awake! Oh my god, you’re awake!” Trevor said through tears.
— — —
Your mind was muddied, but you knew the sound of your boyfriend crying well enough to know that that is what you were hearing.
“Why wouldn’t I be awake?” you slurred. Your vision was less cloudy now and you could see the situation you were in.
Hospital bed. Leg suspended in a sling. Shoulder wrapped and on a pillow-like thing. Feeling extremely groggy. In pain. Trevor’s crying.
Trevor’s crying.
Trevor’s crying.
You brought your hand up to Trevor’s face and cupped his cheek, wiping a tear away with your thumb, “Why are you crying, my love?“
“You- you… you,” he was starting to get worked up.
“Shhhh,” you cooed. “It’s okay. I’m okay. What happened?”
“I saw you die! Your heart stopped beating and the world ended and I couldn’t do anything and I keep hearing the flat line and–”
“Okay, okay, it’s okay,” you said. “Come here.”
“You’re hurt, Y/N/N. Bad. I don’t need to be in this bed with you,” Trevor said.
“Is anything on my upper body besides my shoulder injured ?”
“No, but–”
“So come here.”
Trevor slowly crawled into the small space between you and the bed rail.
“Lay down on my chest,” you whispered to him.
He carefully laid down on your chest, being mindful of your IV, and wrapped his arms around you.
You took deep breaths as you rubbed his back. Yeah, you were the one in the hospital, but your boyfriend just told you he saw you die and you weren’t about to let him suffer.
“See? It’s beating now,” you said low and you stroked his hair with your good arm.
“It’s beating now,” Trevor sighed in relief.
“It’s beating now,” you reaffirmed.
“I need to tell a doctor that you’re awake,” Trevor said.
“We can tell them tomorrow,” you said back. “I just want to lay with you before the real pain sets in. We can talk about whatever happened tomorrow.”
You didn’t know how long you’ve been in the hospital, but you did know that Trevor was incredibly tense and terrified. You were worried out of your mind about him. It didn’t matter how much pain medication was surely in you, even your clouded mind could tell your boyfriend wasn’t okay. You rubbed his back up and down until his tears ceased and you felt him relax against you.
“I thought our forever was going to get cut short,” he said sleepily.
“You can’t get rid of me that easily,” you said.
“I love you, forever.”
“I love you, always.”
— — —
You woke up early the next morning to a nurse going near Trevor to probably tell him off.
“Don’t touch him,” you scolded her.
“You’re awake!” the nurse jumped. She wasn’t expecting her coma patient to be awake. “Unfortunately, this does mean we’ll need to run some tests, so he will need to get up.”
“Can you give us an hour?” you pleaded with her. She gave you a playfully scolding look, but agreed. She gave you another dose of pain medication when you said you were in some pain, making sure to emphasize that Trevor was not that source, and left. Trevor slept through it all.
You found yourself humming and slipping your hand up Trevor’s shirt to softly scratch his back. You had an hour before chaos began and you were going to cherish every second of it.
“I love it when you sing,” you heard him mumble into your chest.
“Good morning to you, too, handsome,” you laughed lightly. “Thank you.”
You felt Trevor nod his head and cuddle up closer to you, placing his head back over your heart. You had a feeling he might need to do that a lot.
“My love, can you check what time it is? The nurse gave us an hour,” you said sleepily.
Trevor groaned but he carefully got off of you to check his phone. His sleepy eyes were soon filled with panic, “Oh shit! Shit!”
Alarmed, you tried to sit up, but you felt a jolt of pain and cried out. Trevor rushed over and eased you back down.
“Are you okay?! Do you want me to get a nurse? I should–”
“Z! Why did you say oh shit?” you cut him off.
“I didn’t immediately tell Quinn that you woke up, and when he finds out that I didn’t–”
“Quinn’s here?” you asked.
Trevor sat down on the edge of your bed and grabbed your hand, “Everyone’s here, sweet girl. They all flew in. Half the league’s been asking for updates. You’re famous, kid.”
You didn’t know how to take that. You were in pain, sure. Apparently you died which was already too much to think about. And now virtually everyone you know is asking about you? It wasn’t fun to think about. It wasn’t fun to think about how many people have worried over you. Trevor was a mess, and you couldn’t even begin to think about everyone else.
You’re the go to person. You vow to make every single person you hold dear, every single person you love, feel safe and loved. You’re the person people go to for support. You have people to go to, but who do you go to when everyone else is struggling with you?
Eventually your hour alone with Trevor was over, at apparently five am, and he had to be kicked out for testing. He freaked out a tad— okay a lot— but he settled for waiting outside in the hall with the door open and you periodically telling him that you were still there. That didn’t last long. A nurse accidentally caused your heart monitor to fall off your finger, causing the flat line to sound again, which caused Trevor to scream. You tried to call out to him, but your voice was too weak and his voice was too strong.
“Help him!” you shouted at a nurse.
You hated what happened next. Trevor’s cries and screams died down, and you were told that they put him in a room after being lightly sedated to calm him down. They explained to you that it happened two nights ago, as well.
“If he stayed in that recliner last time, he needs to be brought in here again. Or he’ll wake up and freak out again,” you told the nurse. “Trust me on that.”
She ended up listening to you, since he did spiral himself into a panic attack just because you were out of his sight. You didn’t know he actually had one, you thought it was just screams. You wished you were right.
You had just enough energy left in you to wait for Trevor to be placed in the recliner. He was out of it, he barely classified as a human at this point. You watched as he got settled and the nurses left, and when his eyes closed, so did yours.
You didn’t know how long you were asleep, but Trevor had drug his IV to your bedside and parked himself in the chair next to you.
“Are you okay?” you asked groggily.
“What? I should be asking you that” Trevor said, dodging your question.
“Z,” you said seriously.
Trevor just looked at you. He looked so guilty. He looked so broken.
“Jack told me that the second you open your eyes, I need to be strong for you if none of them are here. None of them are here yet today and instead of being strong, have an IV with sedatives to not have a panic attack,” Trevor said quietly. “Not even pills, Y/N! An IV bag!”
“Okay, okay,” you got out quickly. “Trev, what you saw is scarring. You never should have seen that, and I’m so sorry that you did. We’re gonna be a bit of a mess for a while it seems, but we’ll be a mess together. We can take turns being the strong one.”
“I need to take care of you,” Trevor said. “You’re hurt, Y/N/N. Bad. You’re going to need help doing everyday things. I can’t be a mess when you need me.”
“Yes you can, Z,” you told him, rubbing his hand with your thumb. “I don’t want anyone holding in anything for me, because that’ll make the break so much harder. Just because I’m going to need help physically doesn’t mean we can’t help each other mentally.”
“I hate to break it to you, but I think all of us are going to need help mentally,” Trevor admitted.
You gave him a sad smile and squeezed his hand, “Good thing I’m awake then, huh?”
Trevor smiled back, but you could tell he really didn’t mean it.
“Jack was playing your part, don’t worry. He held us together for a while.”
“It’s a twin thing,” you joked.
“That’s what Jack said,” Trevor laughed lightly, making you actually smile.
You could tell Trevor was still uneasy, so you had him lay down with you again, but this time he got next to you. You couldn’t lean against him, because moving was agonizing, but the touching of shoulders and your unbroken leg between his was enough for you. He caught you up on everything. He didn’t like it, but you needed it. You needed to know what happened to your friends and family while you were out. All of it absolutely broke your heart, but you were ready to heal with everyone. Physically and mentally. Together.
He told you that almost everyone had a moment alone with you. You wished it was like the movies because you wish you could’ve heard them.
“Do you remember what you said?” you asked Trevor.
“You want to know what I said?”
“I want to know what everyone said. It might help us all get through this.”
Trevor checked his phone, “Visiting hours start in an hour. Why don’t we just lay here together until they come and at some point you can hold one on one therapy sessions?”
It was a reasonable request. You were exhausted, and Trevor had already been through so much in the last three hours. Trevor put a movie on his phone, The Hunger Games, and you laid your head on his shoulder and drifted off to sleep again.

chapter 7: nothing, just an inchident
Not a single driver couldn’t sense something being very wrong by the time Suzuka came around. Max and Charles avoided each other at all costs, and Charles had a sneaking suspicion that George and Carlos had a hand in helping it stay that way.
Clearly nobody had said anything to poor Lando nor Alex, who initially looked bewildered at Media Day, when Charles fled their circle at the first sight of that damned black cap. Or when Carlos started ordering an extra takeout meal during grid dinners while one chair remained conspicuously vacant. Or when George forcefully elbowed his way in between Max and Charles during their podium picture, taking extra care to jab Max in the ribs as he wedged himself in the center. But even they put two and two together eventually.
The first time Charles saw Max all weekend was in the Cooldown Room. Even in his daze, Charles felt terrible for George, who constantly fidgeted with his hat while shiftily glancing between Max and Charles in the thick, frosty silence.
The Cooldown Room had been affectionately dubbed “The Max Verstappen Podcast” for a reason; it was always Max chatting away merrily with his two guests—or one, if Charles was on the podium. The third person usually was forced to endure not only their unnecessarily verbose play-by-play of the entire race, but also the sight of Max failing to break eye contact with Charles for a mere second. Seriously. Max once managed to hand Lando a towel, ask him what the fuck happened to his tyres on Lap 24, and clap him on the back for what a great job he did handling that all while staring directly into Charles’ pupils the entire time. Charles’ lip curled bitterly at the memory.
Truthfully, what made Charles want to scream more than anything else was that Max was just…gone. There might have been a Dutch driver clad in a Red Bull suit sitting stiffly in the P3 chair despite being champion because it was the furthest away from Charles’ P2 seat, staring at the race replay, face devoid of any discernible emotion. But that driver wasn’t Max. Max brought up Charles at interviews any chance he got. Max hunted down Charles after every race before doing anything else. Max held the door open for him at the sauna. And Max had the audacity to tell Charles that his eyes looked like the Meuse while staring at him with those two blazing sapphires.
He sat on his hands to stop them from trembling, bit his lips to stop them from quivering.
Max felt like Public Enemy #1 on the grid, and he despised it. Everything he’d once thought about not giving a shit about the haters was wrong. Turns out he only embraced the hate when it was about pole positions and trophies. Hurting Charles, who everyone generally considered to be a sweet golden retriever angel? No sir.
Ironically, the only guy who treated him remotely normally was Carlos. Lando and Alex avoided making eye contact with Max. Even Pierre and Yuki exchanged nervous glances when Max was around, too afraid to ask what had happened. And George…well, George had started acting like his biggest wish was to secure a voodoo doll of Max and spend the rest of his life sticking pins into it.
One day, after a particularly unpleasant practice session during which George left a fucking hole in Max’s chassis—and had the balls to blame him for it, Max decided he’d had enough. He stalked over to George and gestured angrily towards the damaged car.
“There was no grip” was George’s pathetic excuse, as he took off his gloves and started walking away from Max mid-conversation.
Max laughed, incredulous. “Mate, we all have no grip. You all need to leave a little bit of space.”
“Yeah? So what’s your point?” came the insolent reply, three paces away.
Max saw red.
“Next time’s gonna be the same, you know,” Max spat at George’s retreating figure. “Dickhead.” He turned around, saw Checo, and immediately plastered what felt like the fakest smile known to man on his face. “Good job,” he chirped as if he hadn’t just finished cussing out George Russell.
“Thanks, man,” Checo said flatly.
“I’m so sick of this fucking diva,” Max complained to Carlos in the Red Bull hospitality later.
Carlos chuckled, although it sounded hollow. “You know George. He can be petty sometimes. He’ll come around.”
“I didn’t even do anything to him,” Max protested, vaguely aware of how whiny he sounded.
Carlos shot Max a look that plainly said, don’t push your luck. “I don’t know, Max. One might say having to be Charles’ emotional punching bag after what you did to him in that bar counts as anything. Although,” he mused, “if it makes you feel better, I think this season’s been rough on him in general.” Carlos started to count off on his fingers. “That breakup in the winter, Mercedes giving him the shittiest car, all those rumors about his unrequited crush—”
“Crush?” Max interrupted Carlos’ tallying. “What crush?”
“None of your business,” Carlos snapped abruptly.
Charles had no idea how long he’d been stagnating under his duvet after the race, but the sun was well on its way towards the horizon when his phone lit up with a text. He squinted at the bright screen.
Lando No-Rizz yo game? Me sorry man don’t feel great atm Lando No-Rizz bitch 1 round of rocket league before postrace pls
He didn’t want to play Rocket League. He didn’t want to go to the post-race party (he was fairly sure he never wanted to step inside a bar again, after what happened in Melbourne). He didn’t want to do much of anything, really. At this point, Charles just was barely going through the motions. He knew at some point the guys would notice him slowly morphing into an NPC, but as things were it took all of the willpower he could muster just to get out of bed, peel off the sweatpants he’d been living in for at least two weeks now, and pull on his racing suit three days a week.
A rude bang sounded on the door. Charles briefly fantasized about simply remaining motionless and magically willing the knock away.
No such luck.
“Let me in, you wanker,” Lando shouted from the hall.
Charles dragged himself over to the door and reluctantly allowed Lando to barge into his room.
“Bloody hell,” Lando said when he saw the closed curtains, the pile of dirty clothes on the floor, Charles’ unwashed, greasy hair. “Mate. You are down so bad.”
“I’m not,” Charles said as blandly as possible, knowing Lando would believe approximately zero percent of it.
“Just because Max is an arsehole doesn’t mean you need to be the one who goes into hiding.”
“Max doesn’t want to see me.”
“And why should you give a flying fuck about what Max wants?” Lando retorted.
“Because,” Charles said thickly, “what I want, is him.”
To Lando’s credit, he didn’t act surprised in the slightest. He blinked at Charles. “Max is my friend too, you know,” he said coolly. “I could tell he’s had a thing for you for literally eons. But he’s a right git sometimes and, how he acted at the bar was just…” He made a face. “…so yeah. Honestly mate, I know you want him, but he’s kind of lost the right to have you. And you have the right to live your life and enjoy it. I hope you know we’ve all got your back.”
Charles felt a sudden wave of appreciation for Lando Norris.
“Even if you’re a such a sad sack wanker,” Lando added.
He hurled a down pillow at Lando’s head. “Thanks, man.”
“Excellent. So Rocket League?”
Charles sighed. “I guess so.”
Lando beamed like a child who’d unexpectedly been handed an ice cream cone. Then he glanced down at Charles’ phone, the notification of his last text still on the lock screen.
“HEY,” Lando roared suddenly, “WHY, IS MY FUCKING CONTACT NAME IN YOUR PHONE, LANDO NO-RIZZ?”
Smiling for the first time in weeks, Charles grabbed another pillow and positioned it in front of his face, to ward off the onslaught he was surely about to receive.

Listen... You can be manipulative by being honest, and Max can be very honest. Him saying 'I don't care' or 'didn't ask' at the perfect moment can cut deep. Lando wouldn't know what to do with himself if Max was so honest it hurt
you are so right, and I ofc needed today's quali for inspo for the norstappen rancidity in redbull au... so thank you <3 also inspired by @3303andmore on my dash
Lando's used to being the first driver in a midfielder, the best of the rest as they called him. He smoked multiple time race winner when everyone thought Daniel was going to walk all over him.
But he's in Redbull now. In a championship winning car. With multiple time championship winner for his teammate. He likes Max, Max is his friend -- maybe his only friend now that he's in a better car than Carlos and they're supposed to be direct competitors now. Lando's keenly aware of what happens to second drivers who can't pull their weight -- what happened to Pierre, and Alex, and well, Daniel too.
After Checo left, and Redbull picking Lando — he knows this is a step up in his career, an actual championship contender but it's hard to feel proud of his handful of podiums when Max leans back beside him in the debrief room, easy banter with the engineers having known them for years; Lando feels a bit like being at a friend's house. They're nice, but this isn't your home.
Lando knows he needs to make the effort to fit in, so at the post race meeting analysis he listens and tries to contribute instead of zoning out the way he would at Mclaren, knowing they'd prioritise whatever went right and wrong with his car.
They were looking at Max's racing line, why he took a hundredth at the curb; Max is relaxed, he's shrugging — he was pole position regardless, and when he gets in the car it's intuitive for him he doesn't even need to think about it. It's intuitive for Lando too, but sometimes Max would come over and say something like, he felt it or he knew the race was in the bag even when he had a bad start and was P4, and then went on to win it. And Lando looked at him a little confused, he gets it too, right? Does he?
"Reckon you should avoid the curb altogether, the boost it gave was pretty small compared to how much you need to steer for the next corner." Lando chimes in, he's fairly sure he's right on this. The engineers looking at him, who had otherwise been quiet and tapping his foot the whole meeting, all of their eyes on him.
He feels a hand on his shoulder. "It's rude to not wait your turn, mate." Max says, and he sounds nice, joking even, as he turned to GP with a far more dismissive tone, "As we were saying..."
Lando's suggestion is completely discarded. The hand on his shoulder gives a squeeze before moving off, and Lando wants to sink into his seat or in a hole. Max is right though, it's not his turn, and he clearly didn't have anything valuable to add. It's such a small interaction, meaningless -- harmless even, and it left Lando with hot red ears. Max is just being honest with him, Max is his friend, Lando tells himself, holding on to his company mandated redbull to have something to do with his restless hands.

Hi guys! Its after the French GP and this means it’s time for my review!
As I didn’t write about the Qualifying on saturday, I will put it in first. To be honest I just didn’t want to put myself in front of my computer. It was so hot and I just want to do nothing at all xD. But anyways here it is:
Q1:
I was so so sad that Pierre got eliminated in Q1 at his homesoil. His free practice sessions were promising and I thought he could end up in the top 10! He must have been so dissapointed of everything.
Mick’s fastest lap was deleted for exeeding the track limits. Not again those damn track limits. It’s okay because its a rule everyone has to abide by and he clearly broke it. But it hurts. This car had much more potential as we saw with Kevin on P6 in Q1.
Alex had a spin which ended in a visit off track and would had cost his way into Q2 but he was the lucky one who has got benefited of Mick’s deleted lap.
Q2:
Both Ferraris were literally flying! INSANE!!!! It really looked like they could easily make a 1-2 finish if Carlos wouldn’t had a grid penalty for using new parts.
Speaking of Carlos. He. Was. A. Beast. Out. There! The gap he had in front of Max was HUGE! It’s amazing what he can do if there is no pressure on his shoulders.
I actually don’t want to talk about it but Daniel out in Q2 again ....it’s pain and I’m not sure how much longer I can handle it. And it was so damn close again. The gap between Daniel and making it into Q3 was just about 0.086. This is literally NOTHING.
Q3:
Guys, who of you had kidnapped Ferraris strategists and replaced them to people who know what they’re doing? There can’t be no other explaination for a working strategy! Charles got slipstream from Carlos to help him getting on pole. Now it makes sense that they wanted Carlos geting in Q3 even he had to start from behind. Charles owes him a lot. Thank you Carlos for beeing such a nice wingman!
Lando ended in a Merc sandwich on P5! Good job Lando! My little papaya heart loved it, even if I’d rather like to see Daniel in the top ten if not both of them. But of cause he actually ended in the top ten at the end due of two drivers getting grid penalties but I want him landing in the top ten without this kind of ‘help’.
As always, qualifying left me with mixed feelings. Is there any chance of feeling nothing but happiness after Qualifying or race? Likely not. I just like too many of the drivers and that’s why I have to life with a certain amount of dissapointment every race weekend. But is it too much to ask for a little bit of luck for Daniel or Pierre? But I don’t want to annoy you with this too much so let’s start talking about sunday. For me  racedays starts with the drivers parade and in France we saw a comeback of every driver getting an own car and someone who drives them around the track. Not the best start in my opinion. I already have told you, that I don’t like this kind of drivers parades and that I’d rather like to see all of the drivers on the truck. But there were two things worth mentioning for. Max signed his driver’s cap during the parade and somehow it made me happy. Max maybe isn’t always the kindest person and sometimes his temper is a bit over the top but in my opinion he really is a nice guy and things like this are proving it. I really liked it that they brought the local heros closer to their own grandstands. It’s always somthing special to race at home. And it was even cooler that Pierre gave his cap to one of the marshals at some point of the parade. It’s just a little gesture but I guess this guy will be smiling for a long time now :D. At least I would. Nothing could wash the bright smile off my face for a while :D. According to my notes we finally come to the race itself.
Daniel had a nice start. He gained a position already in the first seconds of the race! Sadly Lando couldn’t stay in his position but I honestly didn’t expect him to be able to do so. Mercedes have  made a big step forward and there was no way Lando could fight with them in his Mclaren.
Where the hell did Alonso come from? He was suddenly there on P4 or 5?I haven’t seen him but he must had a nice start as well. Esteban Ocon in the second Alpine caused a collision with Yuki instead and got a 5sec penalty for it.
Kevin had the best start I guess. He gained 7 positions in the first lap. It’s nice to see what the car is capable of.
Lap 18. Yellow flag in the third sector. Charls Leclerc in the wall. This can’t be true. Not Charles! Firstly i thought that it was the throttle pedal again and I wanted to burn this fucking shitbox of a car down. But after a short time it became clear that Charles made a mistake. But the worst thing was to hear Leclercs team radio after his crash. This scream full of despair and dissapointment was the most heartbreaking sound I’ve ever heard. And I pray to never ever have to hear something like this again! Poor Charles. He neded more than a hug after this. I was sitting in front of the tv and I wanted to cheer him up so badly.
But of course the Ferrari shit show had more suffering to show to us. Charles crash leaded to a SC and Sainz took the oportunity of a free pit stop like most of the drivers. When his stop was finnisched, his crew sended him out unsafely and Albon almost crashed into Carlos in the pit lane. This sunday went extremly wrong at Ferrari. And Ocon was almost involved too. Carlos got a 5sec penalty for the unsafe release.
In lap 20 Yuki was forced to ritire the car. His car had massive damage. I would say this was a late result of his crash with Ocon in tthe beginning of the race.
I hadn’t much time to get some breath. In Lap 23 another yellow flag poped up and was caused by Mick Schumacher. Zhou went to box for a new nose right after it and I was sure that there must have been a crash between Mick and Zhou. At least Mick could stay out but he lost much time after spinning and getting back on track again.
Not the Ferrari crew telling Carlos wrong infos about his penalty and Carlos had to correct them? It’s hilarious somehow. But in a painful way.
There was another yellow flag in lap 38. Magnussen forced Latifi off the track and Kevin had to retire the car afterwards. Latifi had to retire at the end as well.
The fight between Carlos and Checo was the most beautiful thing I’ve seen during the French GP. I really enjoyed to see this amazing overtake. But have you seen his onboard during the overtake? The crew really told him to box DURING an overtake? Do those guys even watching the race? xD. And why did they boxed him after it? Were his tyres so bad? Even Carlos was wondering about this choice of strategy. I guess the original Ferrari strategists were back again after their day off in qualifying xD
George and Checo touched each other in lap 42. I don’t know who’s foult it was. None of them was innocent in my opinion but I would say it was more George’s fault. And he literally discussed over 3 laps with his crew about the incident? At the end Toto had to step in to end the discussion and he sounded slightly pissed.
In lap 49 and with only 4 more laps to go, Zhou stopped his car off track and this caused a VSC. It was to short to let other drivers do a pit stop. Perez missed the restart after the vsc was ending and george took the oportunity to pass him. The last laps were so exciting to see because there was the possibility that Checo could get his 3rd place back before the end but Gorge made crossed the finish line at third after Lewis  and Max. First double podium for Mercedes after a long long time! Well done! Good drive boys!
I was a bit afraid when Lewis layed himself down on the floor at the cool down room. Especially after I heard that his drinking system was broken during the race.
One important thing: WHERE WERE THOSE MONKEY TROPHIES? I felt robbed! It was probably the last race at Paul Ricard for quite a time and they didn’t have one of the best and hilarious trophies in the whole season? Don’t do this to me! xD
The race was way more interesting than I would have thought. Congratulations to Max, Lewis and George! And both McLaren in the points again! Sadly they didn’t showed Daniels fight with Esteban. I have to watch it  on their onboards before we are heading into the Hungarian race weekend. My personal highlights were Carlos’ overtake on Checo and all the hilarious team radios. But it still hurts that Charles crashed out himself and max could gain more points in the championchip. I really would like to see Charles win it this year but this will be really difficult. Especialy with thios clown team behind him. And of course he have to stop making mistakes. But the team, the bad strategy and this unstable car costed him more points than his own mistakes. But I’ll keep my fingers crossed! But that’s it. Over and out until next weekend and maybe I will get myself to write my review a bit sooner next time XD See you at the Hungarian GP <3

Random questions but can a reserve driver take part in qualifying if a driver is sick/hurt? Or will the car simply skip quali and start last the next day? Also, if a driver gets sick/hurt after qualifying, will the reserve inherit the starting position, or will they start from pit-lane/somewhere else?
So rules wise they can change drivers anytime before qualifying.
If a team swaps drivers outside of the FP1 sessions that are often/have to be given to other drivers they usually do so at least before FP3.
But usually it's the whole weekend.
If it's like an Alex in Monza situation the reserve has to participate in qualifying because they have to qualify with a time under 107% of the pole time to be allowed to participate in the race (only if its dry). If they don't they need an extra permission from the stewards which they usually give if a driver has set a representative time in a practice session. Otherwise they might not.
I tried to understand the paragraph about the sprint weekend and honestly I did not get that part.
Changing a driver after qualifying would be a huge problem. Because the drivers then haven't even done a single lap in that car on that track and they'd need to race. That's not the best idea.

Home favourites Gasly and Ocon mystified as both fail to make Q3 in France
An expectant home crowd were left disappointed in qualifying for the French Grand Prix after Esteban Ocon failed to make it out of Q2 – while his compatriot Pierre Gasly fared even worse, as the local hero couldn’t even extract himself from Q1. Gasly had showed fine pace on Friday, taking P5 in Free Practice 1 and P7 in FP2. But overnight changes appeared to hurt the AlphaTauri driver, as he wound up P16 in Q1, a mere 0.016s off Alex Albon’s Williams – although he’s set to be promoted two spots on Sunday thanks to grid penalties for Carlos Sainz and Kevin Magnussen. READ MORE: Sainz tows Leclerc to first French Grand Prix pole as Verstappen qualifies second “Yesterday, we were really comfortably in the top 10 and since this morning already, it was a lot more difficult,” said Gasly. “I don’t fully understand why yet, but obviously extremely disappointed to miss out on Q2 for, I think, one or two-hundredths. “To be fair, between yesterday and today, it’s just been completely different, so I don’t really fully understand where it stands,” added Gasly. “Yesterday was very positive. But [for FP3], it felt like a different car, and then again in qualifying it wasn’t great. Ultimately it was close, but it wasn’t as competitive as yesterday. We need more time and we’ll just need time to analyse everything.” Pierre Gasly 'extremely disappointed' to miss out on Q2 in French GP qualifying Alpine have shown rapid pace in recent races, but struggled with an understeering A522 on Friday. Although Fernando Alonso was able to make it into the top 10 in qualifying, ultimately taking P7, Ocon had to settle for P12 at home – which will become P10 for Sunday with the aforementioned penalties for Sainz and Magnussen. “It was not fine margins!” said Ocon after qualifying, having missed out on a spot in Q3 by 0.212s. “We were lacking way too much to have a chance to go to Q3. We were last almost in P3, so there is a lot that we need to review, but we’ve had a big problem with the car for quite a few races: it’s inconsistent. READ MORE: Pole-sitter Leclerc hails 'amazing' Ferrari teamwork as fired-up Sainz eyes recovery from the back in France “Sometimes it works well, sometimes it’s not there and this is not where we should have qualified today – we should have been in the top 10 easily and fight from there. It’s not all over, obviously we are starting in the points tomorrow, so that’s a good thing and hopefully we can hold onto some points tomorrow.” Esteban Ocon: Alpine 'lacking way too much' for Q3 chance in French GP qualifying via Formula 1 News https://www.formula1.com

Shipwrecked [1/4]
[AO3]
Summary: When Redd's boat crashes upon the shore of Bastion Island, Tom reluctantly takes him in while he recovers. Tom despises Redd for his past deceit, but when he has no choice but to spend time with him, Tom is reminded why he fell in love with the wily fox in the first place.
The wind blew fiercely enough to rattle the windows. The rainstorm, which had begun as an insignificant drizzle that afternoon, had since evolved into a deluge.
“Oh goodness!” Isabelle’s exclamation was punctuated by a jingling of the bells in her hair. She was peering out the dark window. “Alex is outside in this awful weather!”
Tom followed Isabelle’s gaze. Bastion Island’s resident representative, Alex, tromped across the muddy grass. She wore a raincoat, boots, and hat, and clasped a fishing pole in one hand. She was evidently unbothered by the downpour.
“Oh, we should do something, shouldn’t we? She’ll get awful sick, won’t she?” Isabelle fretted, wringing her paws.
“She’ll be alright.” Tom assured her. Humans were remarkably hardy compared to animals. Even if something did happen, the Cranny was well-stocked with medicine.
Alex soon disappeared from their view. Isabelle returned with reluctance to her desk.
Tom found himself wrapped back up in work in short order. He was overlooking expense reports that’d been submitted to him by Timmy and Tommy. The twins were doing remarkably well handling the shop on their own. His oversight was minimal, and more a formality than anything. But the Nooklings wouldn’t have him out of the loop, and Tom had to confess to himself he didn’t want to give up this last tie to the Cranny. Owning a shop had been a dream of his for so long, it had never truly left him.
A jangling noise broke the peaceful quiet of the office. Isabelle fished out her phone from her pocket. A delighted grin lit up her face.
“Digby!” She flashed a look to Tom. “Do you mind if I…?”
Tom gestured wordlessly for her to go ahead.
Isabelle accepted the call, and spoke rapid-fire back and forth with her brother. Digby had recently switched professions from gatekeeper to a member of the renowned Happy Home Academy, and was evidently eager to apprise his sister of further details.
He watched out of his peripheral vision as Isabelle chatted merrily away, and felt a pang of loneliness. Everyone, it seemed, had someone. Isabelle had Digby. Timmy and Tommy were inseparable. Sabel still had Mabel, even if Label had left to strike out on her own. Tom was an only child, and then an orphan. There had been another, once. Someone he’d thought he could trust, could open his heart to. It hadn’t ended well.
Tom dove back into his paperwork to chase away the melancholia. He was writing a series of calculations in the margins of the Nooklings’ report when the doors to Resident Services banged open.
Tom startled and drew a line through his work. Isabelle yipped, and hurriedly said her goodbyes and hung up on Digby.
Alex and Del were carrying an animal between them. It was a fox, with bedraggled, matted fur, Alex’s jacket thrown over his small shoulders.
“I found him by the dock. His ship was all smashed up on the rocks, I had Del help me get him out.” Alex explained. “I think he’s hurt!”
“Lay him on the table,” Tom ordered. He shoved papers and pen cups off the surface to clear room, uncaring where they landed.
Alex and Del placed him carefully on the table. The fox groaned feebly, but didn’t stir. Up close, there was no mistaking the newcomer: it was Redd. What on earth was he doing here, on a near-deserted island of all places? There was no time at present to think it over.
Tom checked Redd over. The fox was miraculously unhurt, save for his left arm. The limb was twisted at an odd angle.
“Del, get medicine from the Cranny. Alex, we’ll need straight sticks and cloth to set his arm.”
The two darted out to fetch what Tom asked. Isabelle found a towel from somewhere and started drying Redd’s sodden frame.
Tom bent over Redd’s face. He tapped his cheek, trying to rouse him. There was a tight ball of anxiety in Tom’s chest, that wouldn’t abate until Redd stirred to crack some dumb joke.
“Mr. Nook, is this who I think it is?”
“It’s Redd, yes.”
Isabelle’s knowledge of him was scarce. She knew him only as the sketchy merchant who set up a tent on occasion in the plaza of their old town. Tom had not divulged any of their past history to her, in spite of their friendship. Indeed, Sable was the only one of his acquaintance who had full knowledge of the situation, in part because she had witnessed the sad finale. Tom had watched Redd erect his tent in the plaza, peddle his often-fake wares, and scurry off before villagers could come after him with their complaints. At the time Tom had considered intervening, of forcing Redd out of town, but he hadn’t been able to confront the fox directly. Instead, he posted a missive on the town bulletin board, warning villagers not to buy from him. If they chose to be taken in by Redd’s wiles after the fact, that was on them.
“But what could Redd be doing all the way out here?” Isabelle echoed Tom’s earlier thoughts.
“What indeed.” Tom could only imagine. Doubtless some new elaborate scheme of his to swindle more animals out of their hard-earned bells.
“I’m back!” Alex declared, arms full of supplies.
“Excellent.”
Tom aligned the sticks in the proper position, then requested Isabelle and Alex hold the branches still as Tom wound the cloth around them to secure the splint. Redd shifted and whimpered as his broken arm was inevitably jostled, and Tom was glad now that Redd hadn’t awoken earlier.
As they finished splinting Redd’s arm, Del arrived with what looked like eight or nine bags of medicine, all slightly damp from the rain.
“I wasn’t sure how many he’d need.” Del said, dumping the pile out onto the table.
Tom opened up one of the paper bags. Inside was a flask of medicine, stoppered with a cork. Tom tipped Redd’s head up slightly, and trickled the vial down his throat. The fox swallowed reflexively. When Redd drained the flask, Tom set it aside. A stray drop of medicine had landed on Redd’s muzzle. Tom thumbed it away unthinkingly.
“I can take him back to my house,” Alex offered. Tom started, his paw quickly dropped away from Redd’s face. “I have the room.”
“No, thank you. That won’t be necessary. Redd and I are...old acquaintances. I’ll look after him, if you’d help me get him home.”
Alex was a touch bemused, evidently wanting to ask more about their connection, but merely agreed.
“Oh, just a moment!” Isabelle scurried back to her desk. She rooted around the drawers until she produced a folded, unused rain poncho. “So he doesn’t get a chill on top of everything else.”
The poncho was a pink plastic, with daisies printed on it. Redd would absolutely hate it, so Tom took some satisfaction in dressing him in the thing.
Moving Redd was a joint effort. Tom and Alex carried Redd, the latter being careful not to jostle the fox’s bad arm. Isabelle held her green gingham umbrella over them, shielding Redd from the worst of the rain. And Del hurried alongside them with the excess parcels of medicine.
The group made their way to the Cranny. The first floor was where the Nooklings served customers, and they and Tom all lived upstairs on the second level.
Tommy was just locking up the shop as they approached, smothering a yawn with one paw. His eyes widened at the sight of them.
“We’re taking him upstairs.” Tom said.
Tommy nodded and scampered to the side door that led to the second floor. He held the door open, and they carried Redd inside.
The Nook family lived modestly here. They had a quaint living room, connected to a kitchenette. There was a single bathroom, and two bedrooms. One for Tom, and one for the boys. (They shared a bunk bed. Tom frequently heard them through the wall at night, bickering good-naturedly about who got to sleep on the top bunk that evening.)
They deposited Redd on Tom’s bed. As Tom tucked the covers around him, he was struck by how small Redd was. Redd had always been the more angular one of the pair of them, but when they’d first met, Tom had been much younger, and still growing. He’d been a head shorter than the fox, whereas now he was a head taller. Redd hadn’t changed at all. He looked so small and pitiful in Tom’s bed, that an instinctive urge to protect him welled up within Tom. He squashed it.
Del left the medicine piled on the nightstand. After assuring them all he could take it from here—yes, Isabelle, he would call if he needed something, yes, he promised—the villagers left.
“What’s going on?” A small voice piped up. Timmy emerged from the bathroom, dressed in his pajamas, complete with a nightcap that had a dangling pom-pom on the end. He was holding his toothbrush.
“Redd is going to be staying with us for...a little while.” This was absolutely not a long term plan. Tom would shelter and feed Redd while he recovered, because it was the right thing to do. But once Redd was well again, he was being sent back to the mainland—whether he liked it or not.
Tommy went to his usual place at Timmy’s side, and the duo turned their inquisitive eyes upon Tom.
“So is Redd your friend?”
“...friend?”
“No.” Tom denied, a touch more curt than he’d intended. Softer, he explained, “We tried to go into business together, once, when I was very young. It didn’t work out. Our philosophies differed too much.”
Tom had hoped his explanation would curtail any further comments, but, on the contrary, the Nooklings were now nearly vibrating in place with curiosity.
“It’s late. You should both get ready for bed.” Tom said, before they could pepper him with additional questions.
Once Timmy and Tommy were settled in for the night, Tom returned to check on Redd. He had moved some in his sleep, now curled on his uninjured side. He was panting lightly. Tom pressed the back of his paw to Redd’s forehead. He was a little warm, but not alarmingly so.
Tom left him then, assured he’d be alright throughout the night. He stretched out on the living room couch and resigned himself to a bad back the next morning.

The city was bigger than Tom had dreamed. Buildings towered overhead. Tom craned his neck and still couldn’t see the tops of the skyscrapers. He paused a moment, just to drink it all in.
An eagle bumped into him. The bird squawked, dropping her coffee on the crosswalk.
“What are you doing?” She griped. “You can’t just stop in the middle of the road!”
“Sorry, sorry!” Tom rested his suitcase on the ground and hastily opened it. “I have some bells—I’ll pay you back for it—crap!”
Tom yelped as his business proposal notes were lifted up by the wind, and scattered out of his suitcase. Tom scrambled to snatch them up before they could blow too far away. None of the passersby noticed, or cared. They just kept walking. One deer even left a hoofprint stamped on one of the sheets.
“Ugh, I don’t have time for this!” The eagle complained, and stomped off without her coffee or refund.
“Wait, just a moment—!”
She had already vanished into the throng.
Tom sighed. He stuffed his papers back in his briefcase and pressed on. All he owned was collected in the small case. Two spare sets of clothes, some pencils, his business proposal he’d printed off in the town library, and a sack of 10,500 bells he’d painstakingly scraped together running various errands for his neighbors. He didn’t have much, but he clung to confidence. He had a knack for business, his school teacher had been adamant about it. Tom  would  make it. Even though the city seemed a bit more...unfriendly...than he’d hoped it would be. He was intelligent, he had good, fresh ideas. He just needed to get himself in front of the right animals to pitch his proposal.
Tom’s stomach growled. First, he needed food. And a place to stay.
The convenience store food was more expensive than he’d anticipated—no  way a sandwich would cost 500 bells back home!—so he purchased a peeled orange from a girl selling them outside the store for 15 bells.
Tom polished off the last wedge as he entered the Hollyhock Hotel. A chestnut mare in a dapper suit stood behind the front counter.
“Hi there!” She beamed. Hers was the first friendly face he’d encountered. He wondered if he could count a smile that was paid for. “Welcome to Hollyhock Hotel, sir. How can I help you today?”
“I’d like a room, please.”
“Of course!” Her hooves clacked on the keyboard. “And how many nights will you be staying with us?”
“I’m not sure yet. Could I just go night to night for now?”
“Sure. Let’s see now...I can put you in the Greene Suite, that’s 5,000 bells a night.”
“5,000 bells?!” Tom squeaked. He’d be broke within three days! “D-Do you have anything more affordable?”
Further keyboard clattering. She grimaced. “The best we could do is the Acorn Suite, that’s 3,500 a night, but it’s rather cramped.”
Tom gulped. He thought he’d stay in a hotel as he got acquainted with the city, and then in time find an apartment to move into. Now the first step of his journey seemed impossible.
The horse eyed him. “New in town, are you?”
Tom flushed. Was he so obvious? His jacket sleeves were short, stopping two whole inches above his wrists; he hadn’t had the opportunity to buy new clothes in some time, and he’d been too proud to ask Sable to sew scraps onto the ends of the sleeves. He tugged the hem of his sleeve down self-consciously.
She sighed. “Look. Things are pretty pricey here. You’d have better luck further downtown. Past 10th, I’d say.”
“Thank you,” He said politely, and turned to leave.
“Wait!” She called. He turned back. “Just...be careful, alright? That area can be a little rough. They’ll be able to tell you’re an out-of-towner with one look. Don’t go trusting any suspicious characters, alright?”
Tom nodded, and left.
He was on 50th street now. He wasn’t sure if he could afford a cab, or even the proper method of hiring one, so he walked.
It took ages. The streetlights were never in his favor. He’d cross one block and get held up at the next, over and over and over.
An hour later, the sun was starting to set, turning the skyline orange and pink. His feet and legs were stiff, and his arm ached from carrying his briefcase for so long. But, at long last, he had made it down to 10th street. The differences to uptown were stark. The crush of animals had thinned out to near nothing. The pavement was cracked and potholed. More stores were boarded up than open for business. Disheveled-looking animals slept on top of heating vents.
Tom squared his shoulders, and continued on. It wasn’t until 6th street that he caught sight of a potential lead: a motel. The ‘t’ was burnt out on the sign, but the vacancy marker beneath it was lit.
The front door was half off its hinge, the window cracked. Tom eased it open dubiously. Inside he spotted a sallow-looking pig, bickering with a fox. The fox looked out of place here. His red fur was neat and shiny, and he wore a freshly-pressed black blazer. He was slouched over the counter with an easy confidence.
“No, no, no. It’s a good way to get me in trouble.”
“You’re overthinking it. It’s simple, Cobb, really. All you’ve got to do is bet on the other fellow. We split the profits 30/70. It’s easy money, cousin.”
The pig—Cobb, evidently—caught sight of Tom.
“You checking in?” He bellowed, leaning to look past the fox.
The fox turned to face him, and Tom saw then that the fox wasn’t wearing a shirt underneath his blazer. It was half-buttoned from the bottom, the top gaping open to reveal the fox’s chest.
The fox saw him looking. Tom went scarlet.
He smirked. “What’s your name, pretty?”
“I-It’s Thomas. Nook.”
“What are you doing here, Tom?” The fox purred, slinking closer. “This dinky den doesn’t seem your style.”
“I’m looking for a room to stay in while I look for an apartment.”
Cobb opened his mouth to talk, but the fox was faster.
“Why not come stay with me for a while, instead? Just until you get on your feet. I won’t charge a single bell.”
Tom shot him a look of heavy skepticism.
“What, I’m supposed to believe you’d help me, a complete stranger, out of the goodness of your heart?”
Cobb snorted. “Goodness, now that’s a joke…” He muttered.
The fox’s grin widened; evidently, he liked being challenged.
“I wouldn’t extend such a generous offer to any old stranger, no. But I can tell who you are with one look. You’re fresh in town, flat broke, and clueless about how the city runs. But you’ve got ambition, I can smell it. I was like you once. I want to help you, to, what’s the expression? Pay it forward. Plus, Cobb doesn’t even have hot water.”
“Oi!” Cobb protested.
“So, what do you say?” The fox extended his paw.
After a moment of deliberation, Tom reached out and shook it.
“Right, we’re off then! Think about what I said, Cobb.” The fox held fast to Tom’s hand, and tugged him back out onto the city streets.
“Wait,” Tom was tripping to keep pace with the fox’s longer strides. “I don’t even know your name.”
“It’s Redd. Just Redd.”
~*~
Tom awoke to the jangle of his phone ringtone. He blearily crammed his paws between the couch cushions, searching for the infernal device. It must’ve fallen out of his pocket during the night.
He found it, and squinted at the screen, which was overbright in the darkness. It was 5:52 a.m., and Blathers was calling.
“Yes?” Tom answered him, tiredly.
“Tom, you simply will not believe the evening I have had—in Bastion, of all places! Who would have thought it! I am ever so grateful you coaxed me out here, old friend, I simply must—”
“Blathers.”
“Right! Right. Alex stopped by last evening, told me all about our new guest. She wrangled some of the villagers together afterwards to search the boat wreckage. There was—Tom, you simply must see it all, you must! You need to resist that unceasing urge to work and spend a visit. There was a veritable treasure trove inside the ship. Priceless artwork. The majority of the paintings, unfortunately, were water-damaged. I am doing my utmost to repair them—I don’t think I’ll even catch a wink of sleep today, hoo-hoo! But the statues, they fared much better. They’re in near-perfect condition, all of them! I wonder if our guest may be persuaded to part with them. For the museum, of course! Though I would like nothing less than to add these pieces to my personal collection...”
Tom mentally sifted through the dump of information Blathers had bestowed upon him. Blathers was a smart owl, with a ludicrous amount of degrees. If he was coveting the art, it couldn’t be fake.
“You’re saying all the art is authentic?”
“The statues are, most assuredly. Indeed, I wonder how our guest managed to obtain them all. They must have cost a fortune. Alas, the paintings have been marred. It’s impossible for me to say with one hundred percent certainty, but to my eye the paintings appear to be authentic as well.”
This was rather unusual for Redd. Not the art and artifact scheme, he’d been pulling that for years. But almost always he sold animals nothing but forgeries and fakes. On the very rare occasion he sold a genuine piece, inevitably within months the true owner came to town to reclaim their stolen artwork. It was baffling, but Tom pushed down his curiosity. It didn’t matter to him what new scheme Redd had devised. Tom was not going to get involved in any capacity.
Tom thanked Blathers for his information, and said his goodbyes before Blathers could keep him on the line for an hour. He sat up, and winced. His back was definitely sore from a night on the couch. Isabelle had gotten him into yoga lately, so he stood to perform a few basic stretches. His routine was interrupted by a thud from his bedroom: Redd.
Tom hurried into the room. Redd had fallen from the bed in a tangle of sheets. Had he tried to get out of bed on his own?
“Owch,” He grumbled, rubbing the back of his head with his good arm. He looked up, and spotted Tom. Redd’s mouth curved into a too-familiar smirk. “Just couldn’t wait to get me in your bed, eh Tom?”

Okay, let’s do morning thoughts on Nate, specifically after this last episode:
First and foremost, I don’t think the narrative is asking us to root for him. If anything, they are bringing up the fact that he is not to be rooted for by giving us a sympathetic ‘done nothing wrong’ character in Will to show that this is bad, this is not what we want.
That said, I love that Ted Lasso and its writers lets its characters have shades of gray so much. I think what this episode tells me is that Nate is desperate for extrinsic approval because he’s too insecure to have his own self-motivation/self-confidence. Again, this is not to excuse him, but we see the blocks of not getting approval (father), getting insufficient approval (mother not getting it right), or one voice being critical in a sea of approval on Twitter (not being 100% approved of). He is constantly seeking it from external sources and when it’s not there, he needs to feel powerful or “better”.
And I’ve seen other comments about how he goes after “weaker” people or those lower on the totem pole (Colin, Will), and I think that’s very apt. He knows that he’s not going to get pushback. Even with Colin, think about last season. When he roasted Colin and the other players, he got approval. The team LOVED it, they lauded him for it. They laughed and he was laughing and everything was fine. So now he does it again, except he’s in a position of power now and hasn’t adjusted and it’s okay that he’s learning. It is okay that he is fucking up. It won’t be okay if he keeps going without consequence, but even Beard has started to notice. Given that the apology definitely left Colin little option but to accept it (as others have said, public, only prompted when ‘caught’), and that Ted has actively asked if he needs to get involved, I really do not think we’ve seen the last of it.
And I do think Nate is going to end up in that therapy chair and he’s going to learn that you can be hurt, but as Rebecca learned last season, hurting others to make yourself feel better is a nasty thorny path to go down.
But right now? Believe. Because I love the narrative and the nuance and just like the episode said: The truth’ll set you free, but first it’ll piss you off, and right now, we get to be angry, but I do think they’ll set up the path out of the dark forest.

look at me, I am old, but I’m happy
(for @christchex because I truly believe her to be #1 Sanders supporter)
The damn kids are keeping something from him. None of them are good liars at the best of times, but every time Sanders shows up when Michael’s friends are around, suddenly they go real quiet. At first, he writes it off as stupid youthful hormone shit. It’s probably something to do with that Manes boy that Michael doesn’t want to talk about. Only, then Alex Manes starts coming around, Michael’s a lot happier, and the weird behavior keeps going. Something’s up, and it’s something Michael’s actively not telling him. “You know, I ought to fire you,” Sanders says one Sunday, when he and Michael are working on the sunflower fields. Michael scoffs, glancing up from the seeding mechanism he’s been working to fix, but he avoids meeting Sanders’ eyes. He’s known this boy since he tripped out of a pod and he knows when he’s about to be lied to. “I’d like to see you try,” he mutters, but his curiosity is sparked. “Why are you bothering to do that when most of my time is volunteered?” “Because you and your friends are keeping something from me.” “We’re not,” Michael lies. “You’re a terrible liar, boy,” Sanders warns, but he lets him get away with it. Just this once, he lets him. Michael waves him off and grabs his bundle of sunflowers to take back to the Airstream. He doesn’t say what or who they’re for, but Sanders knows. It’s the Manes boy, who’s been lurking around and grinning like an idiot all the time. With Michael gone, Sanders is left to consider what it is that’s being whispered about behind his back. There’s enough alien secrets in this town to fill a gossip rag, but Michael’s been fairly honest with him recently, even if he’s been trying to hide how gone he is over his thing with Alex Manes. The truth is this -- he’s an old man. The boy he used to be is a memory and a distant one at that. He’s taken Walt and locked him away behind mountains of bottles and liquor. There’s so much trauma related to those days that he actively works as hard as he can to forget it, and that’s why it takes him so long to realize that maybe he actually knows a bit more than he realizes when it comes to one of those alien secrets.
The secret they’re keeping comes to roost soon after. Well, roost ain’t exactly the word. “They still allow relics like you in this place?”
When Sanders had still been a child and had been happy with Miss Nora and Miss Louise, he’d always recalled their tension around the man they called Jones. They tried to keep it a secret from him then, too, and it’s irritating as hell that history’s repeating it-damn-self. “Relics like me belong more than you do around here,” Sanders scoffs, tossing the wrench into the toolbox. “I’m looking for Michael.” Sanders turns to take in the look of him. He blames his age on the fact that Max Evans never made him feel that icy chill down his spine to spark recognition. All those years with that face in front of him and he never remembered Jones, not until the alien himself busted out and started scaring Sanders all over like he’s a kid. He’s not a kid, though. He’s an old man tired of this bullshit and he’s not about to let an asshole push him around. “Michael,” Sanders says sharply, “ain’t none of your business.” “He’s none of yours either,” Jones says calmly. “Besides, you’re right. It’s not business. It’s family.” It comes back in fits and starts. Miss Nora’s discomfort with Jones’ hand on her shoulder, but the possessive way Jones held onto her. The way Jones had always seemed more occupied with one of the pods. The possessive and keen look in his eye when he’d looked at Walt dismissively, like a human child that Nora took a liking to could never pass muster. There’s only one explanation that Sanders sees, but as far as he’s concerned, it’s crap. “You’re not that boy’s father,” Sanders scoffs. “Or, you might be by blood or whatever alien junk flows through those veins of yours. That boy needed a father growing up and I sure as hell didn’t do the job well enough, but at least I’ve been here. At least I’ve been trying. That’s a hell of a lot more than you can say.” He’s an old and very stupid man, seeing as he knows how much Jones can hurt him. That raised alien hand glowing furiously red is a bad sign, but Sanders decides that if this is how he’s going out, defending Michael is the way he wants to go. “I might have been late getting my act cleaned up, but I still gave him everything I could. I’d die for that boy,” Sanders vows. “For my kid.” Jones scoffs, amused by Sanders’ loyalty like it’s a joke, but then, he always has been an ass, hasn’t he? “Funny you should say that, because today’s your lucky day for getting what you want.” He approaches swiftly, but before he can seal that glowing hand on Sanders’ chest, he just … stops. Sanders refuses to blink. He’s going to stare down his death as long as Jones wants to kill him, which is why he doesn’t notice that he’s being held in place by someone else’s alien powers. “Try,” Michael Guerin snaps at Jones, where he’s holding a bundle of sunflowers in one hand, and holding Jones in place with the other. “You’re not gonna like what happens to you.” Sanders is pretty sure Michael’s bluffing and that when it comes to these two, Michael’s not the one with the upper hand. Still, Jones is playing some kind of long game, because he steps back and lifts both hands up, stepping back and away. “Just two old friends catching up,” he insists, a look in his eyes that says he’s coming back to find Sanders when Michael’s not around. Still, he goes. He goes and he doesn’t look back, leaving Sanders to exhale, slumping over the pick-up truck he’s been working on. “What the hell were you thinking?” Michael demands. “Taunting him like that? He’s an evil dictator! He’s…” “Yeah, yeah, I got the gist decades ago,” Sanders cuts him off. “All I know is what he’s not, and that’s any kind of father to you. Because I might not be the world’s best Dad, but when it comes to it these days, he doesn’t get to swan in and make you feel like you owe him anything. He doesn’t get to make you feel like you belong to him.” This is all getting too damn emotional for him, but he wants to make one thing clear. “I know I didn’t manage the way I should’ve, but if anyone’s a father to you these days, it’s me.” With that said, he gives a firm nod, and hopes that he’s not going to do anything
embarrassing like start crying about it. Well, he might not, but Michael’s struggling to keep it together, by the looks of it, so maybe that’s exactly what it is he needs to hear. “What the hell are you doing back here anyway?” Sanders grunts, when the awkward silence drags on too long. Michael clears his throat, gesturing to the Airstream with the flowers (and conveniently wiping at his nose). “I forgot some papers that I wanted to go over with Alex,” he says, “Lucky I did, or you would’ve been alien dust.” “I got a few tricks up my old sleeves,” Sanders promises, even if he doesn’t have them yet. “So. You and Alex Manes, huh? You ready to admit to me that it’s a thing yet?” Michael wrinkles his nose, but he’s clearly not thinking about Jones anymore, so Sanders considers it a mission accomplished. “How about you start worrying about how much of a thing it is when Alex needs to come get permission from my Dad to marry me,” Michael quips, and he sounds free and happy and brazen and goddamn high. It’s the most that Sanders could ever hope for. “That likely to happen anytime soon?” Michael shrugs, ducking back out of the Airstream with the papers. “You know I don’t do things slow.” “Don’t I ever,” he mutters. “Just warn me before I got alien grandchildren running around the damn scrapyard, will you? The place needs to be alien-proofed.” The look of sheer glee on Michael’s face settles something in Sanders’ chest. He knows he’s happy. He knows he’s settled. He might have missed too many damn years when he was younger, but at least he’s trying now. “Go on,” Sanders encourages. “Go be with your friend,” he teases. “You gonna be okay?” “I’ve survived worse,” Sanders promises. “Now, get,” he insists, and watches Michael leave the scrapyard, off to woo his paramour. As for him? Well, he’s got a hell of a long drive ahead of him to get to the reservation if he wants to pick up some pollen, but after tonight, Sanders figures he ought to protect himself. He’s got a family to worry about, after all.

I have a thousand thoughts about Ted Lasso, but really it boils down to how heartbreaking it was that Nate was wrong that Ted stopped caring, but it also doesn’t matter because it’s not like he knew better. Ted telling him that he keeps that photo with one of his son won’t make it better and Nate’s so far in his own spiral and issues that it’s not going to change.
But really, the rest of the match, what became so clear is that Nate does not have a place at Richmond because Nate does not believe in the same coaching tactics and theory. He sees Ted’s credit as potential blame. He benefits from Ted and Beard’s team building. The false nine only works because Roy gave good advice from experience about talking to the players. He’s gonna have a rude awakening at West Ham when the stick doesn’t actually work.
And yet, god I loved the episode. Richmond is STRONG and Richmond is SUPPORTIVE and Jamie has grown so much (DANI!) and the TINY LITTLE HELMET! And you know what? Nate doesn’t have a place in that. He willfully chooses to not have a place in that.
Maybe that will change in s3? Maybe it won’t. I think he’s in for some hubris at West Ham, but I appreciated them painting it to show that Nate does not belong because he made a choice not to. He made a choice not to be a team player, not to support his players, not to foster an environment of teamwork.
And now? He’s gotta live with those choices because you know, time is linear.
EDIT: And I’m doing my first rewatch and I think what starkly contrasts this is Jamie making a choice that promotes teamwork over glory, but also over strategy? They just mention that he’s the best penalty scorer but Jamie KNOWS what is more important is the team and his teammate. It’s giving Dani redemption. Nate makes the opposite choices and that’s why he will be a very different type of coach (aka, one whose team will fall apart at the first sign of adversity)
EDIT #2: Oh, also? After Rebecca’s “don’t work for that man”, interesting that Nate went to him. He knows who Rupert is. He knows what he might do. Also, Rupert is not hiring Nate out of the kindness of his heart or to support him. This is to get at Rebecca and Ted, so Nate is kind of screwed the moment he messes up because why would Rupert have his back?

TAGGING: @dom-bastiansmythe & @alejandro-lodge
DATE: Saturday September 9th, evening hours
LOCATIONS: A scene room
SUMMARY: Finals scene
Sebastian stepped out of the steaming shower and stood in front of a mirror. He looked at his own reflection and nodded at himself before grabbing a towel and he dried himself off as he made his way into his master bedroom. A quick look inside his wardrobe and he knew what to get. Black leather pants, also black leather boots, completed with a white, silk shirt and a black tie half loosen around his neck. A slight touch of hairgel to tame his wild chesnut locks and after another quick look on his full length mirror he was walking out of the suite, and down and out of the Doms building, and to the main building, where the scenes rooms were. He had gone there earlier that day to make sure he would had everything he would need for his upcoming scene with Alejandro Lodge, and that included the St. Andrew's cross, his own gift to the long list of utilery that they all had at their disposal at the academy. His own had burnt down with the  fire, so a new one seemed fit. And what better way to break it in that with a scene for their final grades. With someone who had told him, up at front, that he didn't do intercourse.
At first he felt a bit at loss with that one. The last time he had done something of that nature was with his scene with Violet Cooper, who Sebastian told he wouldn't have intercourse with because he was a gay man and that didn't fly with him. But having to do the same with a man was something he thought he couldn't deal with first. But after some thinking he figured they could both make it work, even without actual penetration. He had told Alejandro to meet him at the door of the main building so they could go into the room togeher at 7 pm that day, so he hoped the other man was punctual and that he would do as he was told. Otherwise they would be starting with a left foot.
This exam scene was making Alex more nervous than any recent scene had done, and that was saying a lot. Part of it was because he didn’t know Sebastian that well, though having dinner with him and talking to him the other night had definitely helped calm his nerves on that front. Gunner seemed to think he was okay, too. Plus, the guy really seemed to know what he was doing, and that was probably the most important thing. The other part of his nerves had to do with this exam counting for both of their grades. He didn’t want to fail himself, but the added pressure of knowing someone else was relying on him for a good grade on the final exam was a lot. Before leaving his new dorm room, he’d decided on clothes that made him feel confident. It was just a form-fitting, short-sleeve plaid button down shirt and his favorite pair of skinny jeans, but it helped calm his nerves just a bit. He’d arrived outside the building where Sebastian had instructed him at ten to six, and he’d gotten onto his knees right away, kneeling just off to the side of the entrance. A few people passed him while he waited, and one even missed his hair. That was reassuring, too. When someone finally stopped in front of him, he looked up and smiled at the Dom. “Hi, Sir,” he said, trying not to let his nerves show.
Sebastian stick his hands down his pockets as he made his way to the main building, the cool fall breeze grazing his face as he walked. He closed his eyes briefly and took some of that calming feeling, knowing that it would suit him well for the night ahead. As he got closer to the building he spotted a human form kneeling by the door, and a smile came upon his features when he realized Alejandro was already there, waiting for him. He stood right in front of him and nodded. "Hello to you too, Alejandro" he said with a low voice, then he reached down and cupped his chin gently, his eyes taking in everyfeature on his face. "You're cuter in person" he added with a smile, then let go of him. "You got here on time. I like it. I like things being punctual." He looked at the door. "Very well then... Let's get this party going, shall we?" he said and winked at him softly before turning and getting into the building, knowing the other would follow. They made their way down the stairs in silence, broken only when they arrived the basement area. "You're nervous?" he asked, somewhat gently.
Alex blushed as Sebastian grabbed his chin. "Thank you, Sir," he murmured, pleased with the compliment. Sebastian was really hot in person, too, especially with that tie he was wearing. Just for a scene! An important scene, but still for a scene. "I like making a good impression, Sir," he responded before following the Dom into the building, happy to let him lead the way. He bit his lip at the question and shrugged. "A little nervous, Sir. Just, um... new Dom and everything. And I don't wanna do something to hurt your grade for the semester."
Sebastian unlocked the room he had reserved for their scene and pushed the door open. "I don't want you to fail either, so it's good we have each other's best interest in mind." He entered the room, which had a four pole bed at the center of it, the headrest of it armed with hooks for the cuffs, or ropes on both the upper side and th eloer side of the bed. And on the other side, nailed to a wall, the main piece: the St. Andrew's cross. "New Dom?" he asked casually, then turned to look at him. "Hang on- You have been dommed by just one person? Is that what you're saying?" He brushed his fingertips over his own chin.
Alex bit his lip as he entered the play room, taking in all of the furniture and toys on display. His gaze was definitely drawn toward a large cross against one wall, and he felt his face heating as he wondered what it would feel like to be bound up against it, because that's what it had to be used for, right? Sebastian's voice brought him back to the present, though, and he cleared his throat, turning to look at the Dom. He shook his head. "No, Sir," he said. "Mostly one, but I've submitted for a few Dominants this term. But we haven't scened together before. That's what I meant."
Sebastian nodded. "I see. Well, that's good to know." He caught the blush on his face when he looked at the cross, with the binds hanging loose from it, and he grinned. "Before we get started, and just so we're on the record for our scene, let's have a little chat." He offered him his hand and once he gave it to him they moved to the other side of the room, where a medium size couch was. They both sat down and crossed his legs together. "Let's go through your do's and don't's once more, and more thoroughly, so there's no mistakes. And you need to tell me what your safeword is. And also, another than a good grade, is there something in particular you're looking for to happen tonight?"
Alex took a deep breath once he was seated on the couch, his hands pressed firmly together in his lap. "That's a lot, Sir," he said before shaking his head a bit as if to clear that thought away entirely. "Okay, um, I use the traffic light system for my safewords, Sir. And no sex, and nothing permanent, but I think I'm okay with trying anything else. I, um... I like pain, Sir. And I really just wanna be good for you, whatever that means to you."
Sebastian chuckled. "Yes, well... I like things to  be clear from the start. It's best for the both of us. " He nodded. "Pretty common system, okay. So, like we talked about before, no penetration in any way or form, and... nothing permanent, you say? Some kind of marks are easily gone in a couple of days. Would you be okay with those? Because, let's just I feel like spanking you hard, until your ass is flaming red... Would you like that?" He chuckled and stood up. "I have a feeling you'll be quite good to me, boy. I have to say- In many ways you represent a challenge to me, but I like that. I like challengess." He walked to the center of the room. "Stand up and get over here. Then you will strip of all your clothes."
Alex nodded along as Sebastian spoke. "No penetration, Sir," he agreed. "Um, hands are okay, though. And I'm definitely okay with marks that last a few days, like... what you said." He bit his lip, blushing deeply at the thought of being spanked like that. At the order, he got up, moved to the middle of the room, and took his clothes off. They went into a slightly messy pile on the floor next to him, and his hands balled up into fists at his sides to keep himself from covering himself up, like it was his instinct to do. His cock was already half-hard, but there wasn't really any point in hiding it.
Sebastian followed every move the other man's hands did as he undressed himself before; it didn't take much to see the other was a pile of nerves. After he was done, the Dominant walked around him slowly, inspecting him, and humming with approval. "You sure keep yourself in good shape, boy. Do you workout much?" He stood behind him, his hands resting on Alejandro's shoulders and slowly moved them down his arms, until he reached to the fistballs the sub's hands were. "Relax..." he whispered in his ear softly, as he gently tried to unknot his hands.
Alex blushed and shook his head. "Not really, Sir," he said. He shivered as he practically felt the Dom's eyes roaming all over his nude form. "I mean, um, I play a lot of soccer, but I'm not, like... in the gym lifting weights all the time or anything." He took a deep breath and opened his fists up, pressing his open palms against Sebastian's. "I'm relaxed, Sir," he added, more for his own benefit than anything.
Sebastian chuckled softly. "So modest. I like it. Whatever the case, you're gorgeous, boy" he said, his fingers now slowly twining with Alejandro's as he opened his hands, then he let go of one and kept a firm grip on the other. "Come on, let's get you in place then." He pulled him to where the cross was, then moved him so he would put himself on position. "Face to the wall. Arms up. See those hooks up there? Reach up until that level. Your feet there, on those two pads on the floor."
"Thank you, Sir," Alex said, actually feeling himself relax some with the compliments. He kept a tight hold of the Dom's hand and only let go when he was given an order to move his arms. "Yes, Sir," he said, though he took a moment to give the cross one more once over, focusing on the hooks and the pads. Then, he stepped into place and lifted his hands up to the hooks, almost as high as he could reach. "Like this, Sir?" he asked, glancing back over his shoulder.
While Alejandro took position as ordered, Sebastian grabbed a series of ropes which were placed on a table nearby, then he turned to look at the other man and grinned, his own dick stirring at the sight of that handsome male, all spread and stretched for him. "Yes, that's about right" he said, making his way back to him, then he stood behind him and put his arms around his waist, his hands holding him by the chest. "Just a tad back- There you go. You want to give it some room, don't you?" He reached down and gave the man's cock a soft stroke, then reached up and proceeded to tie his hands onto the cross, then the ankles soon followed. He knew for a fact the knots were tight, having tied hundreds of them in his lifetime. "How does that feel?" he said as he stood up, his fingertips brushing under the curve of his buttocks.
"Sir," Alex whined as the Dom just left his cock bobbing there after such a quick, little touch. "A little room, yeah," he agreed, voice already strangled a bit. He felt his breathing slow as Sebastian's attention went to the knots he was tying. It was clear that the Dom knew exactly what he was doing, and that calmed his nerves, too. "Um... tight, Sir?" he replied before testing the rope a bit with both his wrists and his ankles. They didn't budge. "Definitely tight. But I can still feel everything."
Sebastian chuckled, then took his tie off and placed it around Alejandro's neck, once he did he gave it a slight tug, so his head would fall a bit backwards. "That's the idea, boy. We wouldn't want you to fall off in the middle of all the fun, would we?" He let him go briefly and went back to the table where he had all the props he felt he would need it for the night. "So... You say you're okay with pain- How about you just show me how okay you are with it..." He grabbed the riding crop, a long, not too thick made in leather prop with a hard tip on one end. He let this end roam all the way down Alejandro's back, starting at the back of his neck, down his spine, then he let it slide right between his buttcheeks. "Now, this isn't a punishment. But you will count these at loud, understood?" He licked his lips and let the rough end snap on the man's strong bubble butt once.
The cloth around Alex's neck reminded him of the feel of a collar, and he grinned at the way it felt to have his head pulled back. "Definitely not, Sir," he agreed, and he bit his lip in anticipation as he waited for Sebastian to return to him. The slide of something soft but solid against his back sent a shiver down his body, and he nodded at his instructions. "Yes, Sir," he said, his breath coming out shakily. It wasn't long before he felt the toy against his ass, and he gasped out in surprise, his body torn between twisting away and pushing his ass out for more, but the ropes prevented him from moving much in either direction. "One, Sir," he said, probably a second too slowly as his brain worked to catch up with what was going on.
A wicked grin curled his lips when he noticed the inner struggle the man was going through between to want and not to.  It was the subtle movements that he was able to catch, and to him it was something that gave him satisfaction, to be able to do that for the other, while also getting a kick of it himself. The first smack left the shadow of a pink stripe over the man's buttocks and he followed the shape of it with the tip of his crop, then let another three hits to fall on his skin, with a gap of two seconds between each of them so the other would count them.
Alex wasn't good at holding back the gasps and moans and even a yelp as the crop landed against his bare skin--not that he really wanted to. It made his face heat, though, especially when he made an especially loud noise in response to the third swat. "Four, Sir!" he gasped out before biting down on his lower lip while waiting for more.
Sebastian stepped up and stood behind Alejandro, the whole front of his body hovering over the other, with the bulge of his pants brushing on his ass. "Such a good and vocal, boy. You've been good so far" he said, happy to praised the other, then he reached around his waist and let the tip of his crop brush softly over the tip of his cock, already hard and longing for some attention. "Be careful not to cum before I let you to, understood?" he said, the stepped back and landed three more smacks on his ass, the surface of it already tainted in a dark pink color. He reached out and let his fingertips trace the prints of his work on him. "They look good on you, boy."
The whisper of the crop against his dick made Alex whimper. "Y-yes, Sir," he managed to get out. "I understand." Holding back his orgasms wasn't something he had a ton of practice with just yet, but he was determined to be a good boy, especially for the exam. He continued to count the swats as they landed, though his mind struggled to keep up with it. The pain and pleasure swirled together, and more than that, the brief attention to his cock had made that part of his body much more insistent that it get attention, too. "Yeah, Sir?" he asked breathlessly. "I want all the pretty marks, Sir, please."
Sebastian followed with lustful eyes as droplets of sweat ran down the man's spine, following a particular one that went straight down to his crack.  "I bet you do. I'll make sure to leave some good ones, so you can a have a memory of this night." He bent down, his hands grabbing his bubble butt and squeezing it hard, leaving fingerprints over the now pink surface, then he smacked his crop on it even harder, three more times. "Enough for now" he said, standing up and leaving the crop on the table.
Alex wasn't even sure if what he was feeling was pain or pleasure anymore, but he did know that he enjoyed having Sebastian's hands all over his ass. He whimpered when they went away, but he was rewarded with a few more strikes of the crop, which he counted dutifully. He ended with, "Ten, Sir," before glancing over his shoulder to try to see what the Dom was up to. "Do I get to come soon, Sir? Please?"
Sebastian stood behind the other man, his fingers now pushing the hem of his own pants down to let his now hard cock to spring free. It immediately slapped against the still sensitive surface of his ass. "Don't worry. I remember your limits" he assured him, just in case the other would wonder why he had pushed his pants down. He gave his ass a hard squeeze, then slowly spread his cheeks open a bit. "We can have sex without penetration, trust me" he whispered in his ear, then slid his cock right over his crack and slowly dry humped him, his hands reaching up and holding onto Alejandro's, still bind to the cross. "You want to cum, boy? You've been good tonight, so go ahead-" He licked his earlobe slightly.  "Let go. Let me hear that sweet vouce of yours."
Alex stiffened in worry when he felt Sebastian hard and naked behind him, but the Dom was quick to reassure him of his intentions. Alex relaxed as much as he could, but he found his body pressing back into Sebastian's, his sore skin burning deliciously. "Mm, yes, Sir, please!" he moaned. His cock twitched impatiently as Sebastian licked his ear, but then he heard the words he hadn't expected: Let go. He rocked his hips forward a couple of times to get that last little bit of pressure that he needed, but then he was coming, his head falling back against Sebastian's shoulder. "Sir!" he shouted out as he spurted between his bod y and the cross. When he was done, he let himself go limp, trusting the rope and the Dom to keep him upright as he basked in his pleasure.
Sebastian grunted when he felt Alejandro pushing back on him, his hands closing tight around the man's as he kept on thrusting forward, rutting the raw skin, even his entrance in the most entincing way, and he could feel the other reacting against his own body, so he knew they were doing things right. "I'm not going to touch you yet... You have to cum from this feeling alone-" he began to say, which was soon followed by the man's climax hitting him hard. When he fell limp over him he made sure to serve him as a support, while he worked into untying him, both his hands and feet. The latter he did by bending down on the floor, with Alejandro practically resting on his back, and once he was done with the cuffs of his feet he grabbed onto him and picked him up, then carried him to the bed, where he let him sit on the edge of it. "You're okay?" he asked him, then reached for a tissue from the box on the night stand and gave it so he could clean himself up.
Alex smiled dopily up at Sebastian from his new spot on the bed. He nodded slowly, though he did shift a bit from cheek to cheek, trying not to put too much pressure on his reddened ass. "Yes, Sir," he murmured as he took the tissue and began to wipe his mess away from his abdomen. "Thank you." He bit his lip as he wiped the strings of come away, and when he was done, he looked back up at the Dom. "You didn't... yet, Sir?" he asked, waving his hand toward the man's crotch.
Sebastian took the dirty tissues from Alex's hand and threw them away, then he looked down and chuckled softly, his cock still poking out of his pants, fully hard. "No. I was saving that treat for you, boy" he said, then stepped forward a bit, his fingers giving it a couple of strokes, then looked at him . "Well? Go ahead and fix it, boy."
Alex chewed on his lip as Sebastian stepped closer, his face heating up at the thought of his treat. "Yes, Sir!" he said as soon as he was given permission, and he hesitantly wrapped his fingers around the man's cock. It felt hefty in his hand, and he tightened his grip just a bit to compensate before he started to stroke him. "Like this, Sir?" he asked, glancing up at Sebastian's face, hopeful for the Dom's approval.
Sebastian licked his lips when he finally felt his fingers closing around his member, his fingers working quickly into undoing the buttons of his shirt, and he left it hanging open from his shoulders, his muscular frame almost on Alex's face. "That sure feels good" he said with a deep voice, his fingers running through his own hair before he reached down and cupped the man's chin, and he bent over a bit a let his lips brush over Alex's. "I can take it harder than that, boy. Don't be shy. Show me how good you are."
"Yes, Sir," Alex gasped out, Sebastian's praise shooting straight through him and down to his cock, which was already starting to grow hard again. He closed his hand tighter and sped his motions up some, flicking his wrist each time he reached the tip of the man's cock. He shifted again on the bed as he worked, lifting his ass up a bit and putting more pressure on his thighs instead. "Wanna make you feel so good, Sir."
As Alex's rhythm became harder, Sebastian's moans became more continuous. He closed his eyes and threw his head back a little, just talking all the sensation in. He couldn't remember the last time he had had sex without it being about some form, any form of penetration. But it actually took him back to his much younger years, with friends, or his brother, or his partner for the night, when all the time they had was for a handjob. He had actually forgotten you could feel so good with only that too. "You are" he let out with a groan, his hips now thrusting into tyhe funnel of his fist.
Alex beamed with pride as he watched Sebastian get more and more into the handjob. His own dick ached for a touch, but he'd already gotten his reward once. Now, it was time to focus on Sebastian and his pleasure. To keep himself from touching his own needy member, he reached out with his left hand to take hold of Sebastian's balls, fondling them gently as he kept working over his cock. "Tell me-- tell me what you need, Sir?" he asked, his gaze too focused on the Dom's cock to break way and look up at his face for even a second.
Sebastian moaned even louder when he felt his hands on his balls, the two feelings combined making his cock throb inside the man's hand. He opened his eyes and looked down at him, his eyes looking up at him with so much expectation, and he felt the fire coursing through his veins when he noticed he was going hard again. "I can think of something" he said with a restrained voice, then he put his hand on top of Alex's, making it stop moving. "Hold that thought for two seconds, boy. And get in the bed in the meantime." While Alex did as he was told, Sebastian worked into getting himself undressed completely. His eyes fell upon the man on the bed like lion inspecting its prey, then he got into bed with him. "Relax, and trust me. Do you trust me, Alejandro...?" He winked at him, then shifted on the bed, so he was on top of him, both their hard cocks now poking one another, hard and already leaking. "Now... Where were we?" he asked with a cocky grin on his face.
Alex whined loudly when Sebastian stopped him in the middle of his handjob. He was so looking forward to making the Dom come, but he was a good boy and he knew how to follow orders. He bit his lip as Sebastian climbed on top of him. "Yeah--yes, Sir," he replied, nodding. "I trust you, Sir." Suddenly, he felt the Dom's cock pressed up against his own, and he practically had another orgasm right then and there. "Sir!" he cried out, his hands scrambling up to Sebastian's shoulders, where his fingers dug in. "That's-- I-- I'm close again, Sir!"
Sebastian felt the reaction Alex's body had underneath him, and it rippled over his own skin, making a wicked smirk to came to his lips. "No, no. None of that, boy" he said with a low voice, then he closed his hand around the base of the man's cock, squeezing it slightly so he could hold out a bit longer. He moved his hand away and changed with Alex's, so the man's fingers closed around both their cocks. "You have some unfinished business with me, boy. I suggest you get to it" he said, looking him straight in the eye, as his other hand found its way around his neck, his fingers sliding around his throat and squeezing it gently.
Alex panted heavily with the effort of keeping himself on this side of his pleasure. Sebastian's hand helped, though the touch of the Dom's fingers to his cock sent a thrill right through him. "Y-yes, Sir," he managed to get out as he started to run his fingers along both of their cocks together. They were almost too big for his fingers to wrap around at once, but he managed, and he couldn't help but thrust up against Sebastian's cock as well. "Sir," he breathed out again, his eyes widening at the pressure on his throat. "Please," he added, though the sound came out raspy and broken.
Sebastian moaned when he finally felt his fingers around their cocks, his hips thrusting down into the man's fist. He grinned when he saw how riled up the other was, and he gave his neck another soft squeeze. "You get through getting me off first, boy... and then you wil have your reward." Another squeeze, just a bit harder. "Understood?"
Alex nodded as he looked up at Sebastian with wide eyes. This was intense, but it was such a huge turn on, too. He'd definitely have to try this again. "Yes, Sir," he repeated, tightening his grip on their cocks. He moaned at the increased pressure on his own dick, but the sound came out muted with Sebastian's hand against him. "Please, Sir," he managed to get out, "wan' you to... feel so good."
Sebastian's grin became wider, and he let go of his grip around his neck, his hands now holding both sides of his face. "You are... Trust me" he said, his lips brushing over his lips as he spoke, and he then moved his hands up and held onto the headboard to push himself down harder, the friction increasing by the second. "That's it, boy... Come with me..."
Alex gasped out when he had full access to his airway again. He almost came as Sebastian shifted to thrust down against him, taking complete charge of the sex. "Sir," he moaned, struggling to keep himself under control. Even once he had permission, he held himself back, wanting to be a good boy and let the Dom come first.
Sebastian hovered over the other man, grinning and panting as he kept on thrusting his hips down, feeling the heat starting to boil up his spine. "That's it... Oh, you're good, boy..." He bit his lip down and threw his head down a bit, the sudden hit of his climax hitting him at once, while strings of pearly cum coated Alex's hand. While still riding the wave of his own bliss he looked at him and smirked. "You have my permission now, boy. Let go..."
Waiting to come right now was one of the hardest things Alex had ever done in his life. Feeling Sebastian's seed land on his skin was hot - had he really been the one to do that to him? - but he managed to hold off until the Dom told him to come again. "Oh, Sir!" he cried out as he let go, his second load landing on both of them. "Thank you, Sir," he moaned as he collapsed, completely sated, into the mattress.
Sebastian kept on moving to estimulate Alex's orgasm and when he finally came he allowed the other to let himself go completely. When he was done he too fell on the bed beside him, willing his breathing to go back normal. "You're welcome, Alex. You did very good too. It was really good." He stood and this time he grabbed tissues for both to clean themselves up.
Alex took the proffered tissue and wiped their pleasure from his body and hand. He dropped it onto the nightstand next to him when he was done, too boneless and lazy to get up just yet. "Are we... done, Sir?" he asked uncertainly. "Could you come join me again if we are?"
Sebastian alson put the tissue down and smiled. "I think we're good for now. But I'll be glad to accept that gracious invite of yours." He got back on the bed and laid beside him. "Is this okay?" he asked shifting on his side to face him.
As soon as Sebastian had rejoined him on the bed, Alex rolled onto his side and snuggled in closer to the Dom's side. He nodded before tucking head into the man's shoulder. "Very okay, Sir," he murmured.
Sebastian put his arm under Alex's shoulders as got closer to him, his leg also tangling around one of Alex's. "You're such a sweet man" he said, his fingertips tracing the curved lines of his olive skin and down to his hip. "And gorgeous too. Someday you will make some Dom really happy."
Alex blushed at the compliment but managed to get out a, "Thank you, Sir." He couldn't help but give Sebastian a little kiss, just lips pressed against soft lips for a half a second. "You really think so, Sir? I wanna be the best sub."
Sebastian was greatly surprised by the kiss and he returned it just aa gently, even stealing a quick as he pulled back. "I do. I really do. Each one of us is different, but that doesn't need to be a bad thing. And when you find the one, your one you will be great."
Alex blinked at Sebastian, a smile ghosting at his lips as he looked at the other man. "That's really kind of you, Sir," he said. "Especialy since you have a lot of experience."
Sebastian moved a strand of hair off Alex's forehead. "It's true. And because of what you said about my experience you believe me, right?" He pulled him a bit closer and sighed. "It's a shame we can't stay here for the night. These beds are actually very comfortable."
Alex nodded against Sebastian's chest. "Of course I believe you, Sir," he murmured. He chewed his lower lip for a moment. "Who says we can't stay here for the night? I don't wanna move."
Sebastian tilted his head to the side so he could look him in the eye, a grin curling the corner of his lip.  "No one. After all, I did call the room on my name until tomorrow morning." He chuckled, then pullled the other on top of him, his whole upper body resting on him, while their lefs were side by side. "It's a good thing this room has a controlled, warm temperature the, huh?"
Alex laughed lightly. "Definitely, Sir," he agreed. "Though I don't think I'm really gonna be able to get too cold with you right next to me." He buried his toes under Sebastian's calves to prove his point. "Mm, so warm, Sir."
Sebastian smirked. "Are you saying I'm hot, boy? Because I already knew that, but it's nice to hear it from you." He looked at him and winked, then gave him another quick peck on the lips
Alex hadn't actually been trying to reference Sebastian's appearance at all, just his physical body temperature, but the Dom's interpretation wasn't wrong. "Maybe, Sir," he said shyly, his face reddening in embarrassment.
He let his fingertip run down the curve of his nose. "You would be correct then" he said, playfully flicking the tip of his nose.
Alex grinned at Sebastian before dropping his head down onto the man's chest and burrowing into him. "You're really comfy, too, Sir," he said. "I don't think I'm ever moving again."
Sebastian chuckled and put his arms around him. "That would carry some logistics problems, you know." He shifted a bit underneath him so that Alex would be even more comfortable.
"Really, Sir?" Alex asked, sighing contentedly as he settled against the Dom's chest. "I'm not seeing any logistical problems at all here. So comfy."
He let his fingertips to caress Alex's back soothingly. "You said you didn't want to move again. So what about classes, and clubs, and teams and all that.?"
"Not important, Sir," Alex replied. "I don't need classes or clubs or teams if I'm this comfy. I could stay right here like this forever."
Sebastian smiled. "Well... I'm pleased to hear that I make you feel that good and comfortable to make you want to stay forever, Alex."
Alex bit his lip, suddenly wondering if he'd gone too far. "Is that okay, Sir?" he asked uncertainly. "Do you want me to get up?"
Sebastian looked at him and shook his head. "Not at all. I'm quite fine like this. Just rest, boy. You need it." He winked at him playfully.
Alex lifted his head to look up at Sebastian's face as he responded. "Okay, Sir," he said, feeling like a weight had lifted off his shoulders. He was pretty tired after their scene. "Thank you, Sir," he murmured as he closed his eyes and settled in to take a nap.

It would be a perfect day, Nico could feel it in his fingertips.
As a surgeon, the body part he trusted most were his fingertips. Not his stomach, sometimes not even his brain. And his heart? At the moment, it was pounding so much, Nico could feel it, well, right down to his fingertips.
He was looking forward to skiing, the feeling of loose snow beneath his skis, the fresh cold air in his lungs, the adrenaline and of course, intimate togetherness with Levi in the evening. Simply put: A perfect day.
They had decided to visit a Ski field over a long weekend; Nico, his mentor and friend Link, Link’s childhood friend Jo and her husband, Alex. And, how could he forget, Levi. Glasses. Or Schmitt. But in reality just Levi. Levi, his boyfriend. Levi, who seemed to constantly smile, but even more often looked as if a warm gust of wind just hit him directly in the face – adorably bewildered. Levi, who would tell endless stories about himself that were so absurdly honest and funny, Nico would have silently accused anyone else of making them up. Levi, who could make Nico laugh just as fast as he started to bug him – but in a good way, of course. In a let-me-interrupt-you-with-a-kiss way.
When the group of five doctors left the cable car that morning, the sun was shining down on them like a white spotlight. The freshly fallen snow looked like cotton and cream. And the wind blew with the (non-existent) force of a light breeze.
“The weather is great today!” Alex exclaimed. He was carrying his skis over one shoulder, and because he was a gentleman, he was also carrying Jo’s snowboard. She stuck her face out towards the sun and smiled consentingly.
“Right?” Link caught up with them, his snowboard under his arm. “I can’t wait to hit the slopes.”
“Same here!” Nico said. “I bet the pistes are fantastic, now that everything is still smooth.”
“Spoken like a true winter sportsperson” Levi mumbled while leaning on his skis for support. He was looking incredibly cute today, with his hair peeping out from under his helmet and his skis that were so much shorter than Nico’s.
Nico patted him on the back, almost throwing him off-balance in his ski boots. “Just wait, you’ll get there.” He grinned. “Two days, and you’ll talk like that, too.”
Levi shook his head. “I doubt it.”
The five came to a stop at the edge of a small hill that led from the cable car station to the first slopes. There, they began to clip on their skis. Jo was the first to finish and, while waiting, surveyed the others with narrowed eyes.
“Is something wrong?” Link laughed and put on his snowboard goggles.
Jo eyed Levi thoroughly, before answering: “I’m just not at all used to seeing you in anything else than blue scrubs.”
Nico followed her eyes with his. Levi wore a ski suit that was black, grey, white, and yellow, grey boots, and a black helmet, all of which suited him perfectly. Having heard Jo, however, he looked a little uncertain.
“Oh, don’t listen to her” Nico whispered, leaning over to Levi. “You look amazing.”
Levi laughed unhappily. Nico just now noticed how pale he’d become. He seemed shaky and nervous.
“Are you alright?” Nico asked.
Levi nodded his head unconvincingly.
Meanwhile, Alex shouted: “Guys, let’s go!” He let out a loud cheer and then pushed himself off the edge of the hill. Jo followed right in his tracks, laughing out loud as the wind caught her loose hair.
Nico couldn’t wait to go after Alex, too. The bright snow, the clear sky, it enticed him. Link, grinning widely, exchanged looks with him one last time, before boarding off. He went down the hill in wide, confident turns, and Nico pursed his lips, almost in awe. Link was not only the best surgeon he knew, he was also the best snowboarder.
“You ready?” He asked Levi, only then noticing that his boyfriend was still fiddling with his bindings.
“Obviously not!” Levi replied sharply.
Nico bent down as much as his skis would let him helped Levi secure his boots to his skis. “Don’t want you getting hurt.” He said with a playful tone when they were finished.
Levi just shook his head in silence and used his ski poles to push himself towards the edge. When he reached it, he started to slide down. Nico looked after him, stunned for a second. Briefly, he asked himself if it was something he did wrong. Then he dropped the thought. Levi was probably just a little angry at himself for appearing slow in front of his colleagues.
Finally, Nico slipped over the edge of the hill. He spotted Jo, Alex, and Link at the start of one of the slopes, waiting. Levi was about halfway down. Nico copied his turns, but after two curves decided he was going to slow. So instead, he just went straight downhill. This caused him to quickly gain speed and the pressure of the wind against his face to increase. His surroundings began to blur slightly and then suddenly it was only him and his skies. It was almost like Nico had fallen into a trance, one that caused him to block out everything but the cold air all around his body and the swooshing sounds in his ear and the speed and the adrenaline that made his every nerve tingle with excitement and joy.
Oh, how he had missed this feeling. “Whoo-hoo!” Nico exclaimed and pushed one of his fists into the air. His friends came closer way too quickly for his taste. Why wasn’t this hill longer? Sighing internally, he forced himself to slow down.
“That. Was. Amazing!” He shouted towards Link.
His mentor nodded, an excited look in his eyes. “You were right, the snow is perfect. This is going to be a great day!”
Nico noticed Jo doing impatient little feet-tied-to-the-snowboard jumps towards the edge of the next slope, and Alex staring in the opposite direction, the one they all had just come from. His gaze was fixed on Levi, who was still making his way down the hill, taking noticeably more time than the rest of the group had.
“You think Schmitt is gonna be able to keep up?” Alex asked Nico.
He furrowed his brow and just let the question sit between them for a second. Then he said: “Of course he will. We’re all equals here, right Karev?”
Alex just nodded. “You can count on it.”
By now, Levi was catching up to them. When coming to a halt, he accidentally caught an edge and lost his balance.
“Whoa!” Nico quickly wrapped his arm around his boyfriend’s waist, holding him up. “Easy.”
“You alright, Schmitt?” Link asked with a grin that was half-concerned and half-amused.
“Why does everyone keep asking me that?” Levi hissed.
Nico bit his lip. If his boyfriend wasn’t going to have a good day, he wouldn’t have one either. And he wanted to. For himself, and for Levi.
———
The group advanced to the next edge. The first piste they had picked was marked red, which meant it wasn’t easy, but not very hard either. Link had opted to start with a blue one (blue meant easy), Jo, Alex and Nico wanted to do red and Levi had stayed out of the decision.
So, red slope it was. Nico risked a glance over the edge, realizing it started off with a pretty steep section, after which it became gradually flatter.
“Well, that first bit could’ve very well been marked black.” Link said. Black was the highest difficulty.
Nico clutched his ski poles. It didn’t matter, he was ready.
“Are you still up for it?” Jo asked.
Link shrugged. “It’s our first run for today, and we all haven’t skied in a while. I still think we should do another one first, but I’ll do what you guys are doing.”
“And here I thought you were afraid.” Jo grinned.
Link laughed. “Oh, you wish. Race you down?”
“What’s the winner get?”
“Let’s say, uh, bragging rights for the whole trip?”
“You’re up!”
They both jumped to the edge awkwardly with their snowboards, and then got into their starting positions. Alex counted: “Ready … set … GO!” And then the two plunged themselves down the hill.
Nico and Levi looked after them, Nico chuckling, Levi wide-eyed.
“I’m betting on Jo” Alex suddenly said in a challenging tone.
“Alright, my money’s on Link then” Nico replied, still chuckling, and held a hand out towards his colleague. They high-fived in their thick skiing gloves and grinned at each other.
“What are we betting on?”
“Whoever loses has to buy the drinks for tonight.”
“Deal.”
Levi was already standing at the edge, ready to start. “You guys coming?”
“Right behind you, babe.” Nico smiled and pushed himself towards him.
As anticipated, the piste started off pretty steep. Nico struggled to maintain balance from time to time, even with the still flawless snow beneath him. Link had been right; this was not the ideal slope to begin the day with. But before he could think too hard about it, the difficult part was already over.
He stopped by the side of the piste and looked back for the first time, noticing that Levi was not far behind him. In fact, he caught up with him only a few seconds later.
“Wow, now that was a wake-up call” Levi said, a little out of breath.
“Yeah” Nico replied. “I don’t think it can get much harder.”
“I can already feel my muscle aches forming!” Levi laughed.
Nico joined in, and so did Alex, who had arrived last of the three. “Let’s just hope it stops at muscle aches.” He grinned. “Because one of us, lying on top of an operating table by Monday, instead of standing beside it? I can already see it in front of my eyes.”
“Bailey would kill us” Nico smirked. “Remember how she wouldn’t even let us go on this trip at first? Because ‘risk of injury’? Besides, I have surgery scheduled for Monday.” Monday was the day they would all be going back to work.
Levi gave Nico a long precarious look with, before sliding off.
Nico, a little confused, looked after him for a second before turning to Alex. “Let’s see who’s gonna get those drinks, huh?”
“Absolutely!”
The rest of the slope was no problem for Nico. It was exactly the right width, his skies were going smoothly, and not many other people were there. Perfect conditions. Once again, the piste was over way too soon, ending at the entrance point of a chairlift.
Link and Jo were waiting there with snow sticking to their ski suits. Both had red cheeks and big smiles on their faces.
“So, who won?” Alex asked after stopping next to Jo.
Jo and Link exchanged a look before bursting out into laughter. “We may have crashed into each other at the last second.” Link finally said, brushing a bit of snow off his jacket. “No one got hurt though, no worries.”
“So it was close, obviously, but there is no winner” Jo added.
Nico, who stood beside them with Levi, shrugged at Alex. “Well, I guess we’ll have to go to bed thirsty.”
“We made a bet” Alex explained to the two racers, wrapping his arm around Jo. “Looser would’ve bought tonight’s drinks.”
“Had I known that I would have put more effort into it.” She said.
Link laughed. “I thought this was all you got.”
“Oh, not by a long shot.”
“This again?” Levi mumbled to himself.
“Levi’s right” Nico said. The others turned their heads towards the two. “Let’s not waste our time standing around. You two can continue your bragging match on the lift.”
Link laughed, playfully shoving Jo. “‘Match’ would imply that we are on one level, and I don’t think so.”
“Ooh, you are moving on thin ice, Atticus Lincoln!”
One chair of the lift could transport four persons, so Alex, Link, and Jo (who were still bickering) got on one, and Nico and Levi took the next.
When they were sitting comfortably, Nico took off his ski goggles. “Levi, are you having fun? Because I don’t feel like you do.”
“Why would you think that?” He asked defensively.
“Well, you’re reserved towards the others. And me. And you’re a lot quieter than usual.”
“It’s not easy drowning out all this talk about drinks and who’s faster and whatnot.”
“I … do you want me to apologize? What do you want to talk about?”
“Ugh!” Levi threw up his hands. “You’re not getting it!”
“What am I not getting?!” Nico asked, voice stern. Then, he took a deep breath, calming himself down. “You’re right.” He said then, slowly. “I’m sorry. I don’t get it. I’m not you, I don’t know how you feel.”
The hint of a smile appeared on Levi’s lips. “I forgot. I always have to spell everything out for you.”
“Come on, that is not fair” A smile started to form on Nico’s lips, too, and he leaned his helmet against Levi’s. “But for real. What’s going on?”
“The others … I feel like they are treating me like a child. Like I’m an intern, here, too. Judging my look. Asking me if I’m alright, just because I took it a little slower on the first hill. And did you notice how Doctor Karev started talking about how one of us might end up on an operating table? It was right after I mentioned muscle aches.”
Nico frowned. “He did ask me if I thought you could keep up with the rest of us.”
Levi straightened himself in his seat. “Who did? Karev?”
“Uh-huh.”
He huffed. “I may have not skied in a while, but I am at least as good as he is!”
Nico gave him a little kiss on the cheek (which turned out a bit difficult with the helmets, but still). “I know you are.”
Their chair was slowly reaching the top station. “We can separate the group if you want to” Nico said. “Let Jo and Link have their races, while you and I get some peace and quiet on another slope.”
“Link’s your buddy. And I know you like spending time with the others, too.” Levi gave him a smile. “This is your trip as well.”
“But I’m not happy if you’re not happy” Nico replied, just as the chairlift was approaching its end.
“You’re so corny!” Levi shook his head, trying to keep himself from giggling.
Then, they got off the chairlift and joined the other three, who were standing beside a giant map of the ski field.
“Alright, guys. We are here.” Alex said, pointing towards a spot on the map with one of his ski poles. “Which means we can either take this next blue slope or go for another red one.”
“Let’s do blue.” Link suggested.
Levi agreed with him, earning them both an amused look from Alex and Jo. “Are you guys tired?”
“Come on, let’s not exhaust ourselves already. We have been here for less than an hour.” Link argued.
“Besides, if we take the red piste now, we’ll have to take another black one afterwards if we want to reach a lift of some sort” Levi said, gesturing to the map. “By taking blue, we are gaining access to a whole bunch of other slopes without having to take another lift.”
Nico nodded, smirking. “Good point.”
“So blue it is.” Link clapped his hands.
Before sliding off, Nico approached Alex. “Can you lay off Schmitt? This is supposed to be fun, not a competition. Except maybe for Jo and Link.”
———
Even though Levi did not ask for it, they ended up agreeing to split up after lunch. At noon, they stopped at a small restaurant by the side of one of the main slopes. It was furnished to look like a typically alpine chalet, and served traditionally Austrian and South Tyrolean food as well.
Nico and Levi ended up sharing a huge plate of Kaiserschmarrn, which was basically a big pile of fluffy sugary pancake pieces served with lingonberries and applesauce. It tasted amazing and had Nico wondering if he knew any restaurants back in Seattle that made alpine food. He decided to google it later and if yes, to definitely go there one day. Take Levi. Have a nice date night, and look back on lots of hopefully amazing memories.
“Did you know this dish was named after one of Austria’s emperors?” Levi asked, still munching on his last bite. “He loved it so much that they apparently just decided to rename it to honor this guy.”
Nico smiled quietly, and gently wiped a little bit of powdered sugar off his boyfriends chin.
Alex, Jo and Link were sitting across the table from them, also still digging in on their meals. “Would you guys mind if we both went off alone for a little after lunch?” Alex suddenly asked.
“Not at all.” Link said. “What about you guys?” He looked at Nico and Levi. “Do you want to go on your own, too?”
Levi shrugged. “Let’s decide along the way.”
“Alright.”
Back on the road – or better, on the slopes – Jo and Alex went on their ways. Meanwhile, Nico, Link and Levi decided to make a little round tour of the ski field to skim the area.
When they got on the first chairlift, the sun was still shining from the clear sky, with almost no wind and almost no people on the slopes as well. Nico could hardly believe their luck. Hopefully the whole weekend was going to be like this.
Unsurprisingly, the tour turned out to be lots of fun for him. He was with the man he loved; Levi, and his best friend; Link. Nico and Link both skied (or in Link’s case: boarded) in similar ways: better fast and a little loose than too slow. Levi on the other hand had a cautious style of skiing, which didn’t mean he was slow, just that he was taking it a little safer. Nico didn’t mind. He didn’t think the few instances he and Link actually had to wait for him were a waste of time. The others might have felt that way, but for him it was a welcome break to just catch his breath, appreciate the overwhelming view of the snowy mountains or have a quick chat with Link about the slope they just conquered.
Levi was also visibly happier than before. He got along really well with Link, the final ice breaker having been the discovery that Link was a fan of the X-Men comics, just like Levi. The next few chairlift rides they had then spend arguing whether a guy named Cyclops or a guy named Wolverine was cooler.
When the day slowly came to an end, Nico was still high on Endorphin and probably a whole bunch of other happiness hormones, too. His cheeks literally hurt from smiling all the damn time, but he couldn’t help it. He was sweaty and his limps were starting to get heavy, but still he felt like he hadn’t been this happy in a long time. But, he thought to himself, why wouldn’t he be? He’d spent the last hours with two people whose company he genuinely enjoyed, and had had probably the best skiing experience of his life. Why overthink this perfect afternoon?
Well, it was about to become the opposite of that.
They had agreed to meet up with Jo and Alex at the entrance of the cable car, which would bring them back down into the valley, where they had rented a cabin. The last piste Link, Nico and Levi needed to take was one marked black. It was short, narrow and pretty steep, and judging by the piles of loose snow all over it, it had already seen quite a lot of people today.
The three of them stared down the hill, nobody wanting to be the first to say ‘Let’s do it’ or ‘Let’s not do it’. Jo and Alex were waiting at the end of the slope, waving and calling their names.
Nico was pretty confident he could make it. A few short-radius turns, and it would be over. He just had to be careful not to hit one of the snow piles, because they had the nasty habit of slowing the skis down abruptly, causing the person attached to them to loose balance and fall – which was not a pleasant experience on a hill that steep.
He looked at Link first, who nodded, and then at Levi, who pressed his lips together, and after a short while nodded, too. After spending the day with them, Nico had no doubt either of them would make it down the hill.
“Well then.” Link said, adjusting his goggles. “Let’s do this, the others are waiting.” Then he pushed himself off the edge with a little jump and started to curve down. He was controlled, but not slow, and after barely a minute, arrived next to Jo and Alex at the end of the slope.
“Let’s not go at the same time” Levi said, still staring down.
Nico agreed. Better safe than sorry. “After you.” He smiled. “Again – I’m right behind you.”
Levi laughed, pointing a finger. “Hah, you better not be.”
He took his first turn, slow and steady. The second as well. Then, he got a little more confident and allowed himself to gain speed. Nico blinked, and the hill suddenly looked like a vertical wall. Levi seemed so tiny, his skis so short. Dusty ice was splattering out from under them when he took his next turn. The edges made a scratching sound, and Nico flinched. Oh no. Hidden under a layer of snow, he could suddenly make out floes of ice, and there were probably more all over the piste.
Levi just drove over one at a fast speed. Skis were made to slide over a surface of snow, not ice. On ice, skiers often had difficulties to maintain control. And Levi hadn’t seen it coming. He tried to slow down, but couldn’t do so without risking to loose balance. So instead he tried another turn, and barely made it.
Nico held his breath hoping for the icy part to be over. Then, he gasped when one of Levi’s skies suddenly lost its grip and slipped downwards. It pulled his foot and leg down as well, and now his balance was completely lost.
“Levi!” Nico called out. At the bottom of the hill, Link, Jo and Alex were shouting as well.
Luckily, it was just a scare. With a grunt, Levi managed to get back on his feet. Supporting himself with his poles, he was now standing still about halfway down the piste, breathing heavily from shock.
“It’s okay! You can do it!” Nico yelled, hoping his boyfriend could hear him.
Levi looked up to him, and then down to the others, who were still shouting inaudibly. With a determined look in his eye, he prepared for his next turn, gaining speed again. And while doing that, he completely missed the big pile of snow in his way. Levi’s skis got caught in the loose white powder, sending his body flying forward from the sudden loss of velocity. His helmet hit the ground with a loud cracking sound and then he started sliding downwards head-first, leaving behind a small trail of red in the snow.
“Levi!” Nico shouted again, this time from the top of his lungs. He was suddenly freezing cold. Levi was bleeding and not moving. Was he conscious? What had happened to him? A concussion? Or maybe something worse? A thousand thoughts were flying around in Nico’s head.
He saw Jo and Link running up the slope in their snowboard boots to catch Levi and only then realized that he was still standing at the top of the hill himself. But suddenly, knowing that he had to get to Levi as fast as possible, that stupid little hill didn’t feel like a challenge at all.

A/N: Thank you so much for reading! I hope you enjoyed this first chapter!
I have outlined the whole story, as of right now three or four chapters, but written only this one and parts of the second chapter. Hoping for a bit of feedback to motivate me :) But the story will definitely be continued.
Please feel free to point out any spelling/grammar mistakes I made, especially with the skiing vocabulary :) I'm always looking to improve my English :)

Twins Split Series With Sox!
Twins 7 White Sox 2 W-Pineda (4-5) L-Cease (7-6)
The Minnesota Twins have had two rough games in a row against the Chicago White Sox. They have blown leads late and are glad that tonight was the final game at Guaranteed Rate Field of the season. The Twins jumped out first in the third inning. Max Kepler led-off and crushed a Dylan Cease curveball off the right field foul pole. The solo homer put the Twins up 1-0 and the Sox answered in the bottom of the third. Billy Hamilton lined a one-out double to left and stole second base. Tim Anderson walked and Adam Engel reached on an infield single, which scored a run to tie the game at one all after three innings of play. The Twins got back to work in the fifth as Jorge Polanco lined a two-out single to right. Nelson Cruz hit a ground-rule double to right and Josh Donaldson plated a pair with a single to center. This put the Twins on top 3-1 and the Twins kept adding on in the sixth. Andrelton Simmons kept the inning alive with a two-out single to center. Max Kepler followed with a walk to bring up Jorge Polanco. Polanco knocked a Codi Heuer fastball out to right for a three-run blast and the Twins extended their lead to five runs. Meanwhile, Michael Pineda threw five very good innings and Tyler Duffey got five big outs. Alex Colome got out of a mess in the seventh, but hit some trouble in the eighth. Yoan Moncada lined a one-out double to center. Andrew Vaughn doubled him home and pulled the Sox within four runs. Alex Colome got out of the eighth and the Twins headed into the ninth with the lead. Jorge Polanco lined a one-out double to left and stole third base. Nelson Cruz hit a sacrifice fly to left and the Twins went up by five runs. Caleb Thielbar threw a scoreless ninth and the Twins split four games with the White Sox this week.
-Final Thoughts- Michael Pineda had a strong start against a good lineup. He went five innings and allowed a run on four hits with a walk and three strikeouts. Tyler Duffey got five big outs and Alex Colome got out of the seventh. He gave up a run in the eighth, but struck out two. Caleb Thielbar put up a zero in the ninth. Jorge Polanco led the way with three hits on the night. Max Kepler added two hits. The Twins hit 2-for-6 with runners in scoring position and left six men on base. Alex Kirilloff opted to have wrist surgery that he was contemplating in May. It might have hurt his power at the plate and his season will be over. He should be healthy in eight week. Next up, the Twins head home to play the Angels in a four-game series. Andrew Heaney faces Kenta Maeda on Thursday night.

Bunny shimmies out of Bill’s arms in the morning. She is getting her outfit back on when Bill wakes.
“You ok?” He asked as he sat up body drizzled with sweat from sleeping so close to her.
She tied the outfit around her neck looking at him acting all nonchalant, “Yeah, I’m cool. No big deal.”
Bill whines, “I’m sorry. Did I hurt you?  I just meant to make you feel good. But if you want to leave, I won’t stop you or anything.  Just…” He laid back down pulling the sheet over his head turning away. “Don’t tell Alex I fucked up again. He will kill me for hurting you. I can’t believe this wasn’t fucking real.”
“What?” bunny looks over at him. When she sees Bill has buried himself, she goes to sit on the side of the bed. “Bill you made me feel things I never thought I would or could with a man but I thought you were just looking for a one night stand to make you feel better, feel something good.”
“I’m not fucking like that at all Bunny,” He cried under the sheet that shielded him. “But get the fuck out of here. I will get my own place soon enough. You do not ever have to see me again. Before Genna there were other women who I thought cared but fucked me and left. You are not the first and you probably will not be the last. You were fucking leaving so get the fuck out already.”
“Bill,” She rubbed his back though the sheet. “I haven’t even slept with anyone in ten years. I’m sorry, I didn’t believe you could possibly care for me. Look at me baby boy, please.”
Bill throws the sheet off and sits up to look at Bunny. His eyes red. “Don’t hurt me Mommy.” He touched her cheek.
She leans into his touch. “That’s a good boy. Mommy’s going to dance for you, okay?”
“I’d like that,” Bill smiled innocently. “Mommy can I kiss you before you dance for me.”
She nods. He moves in slowly as they close their eyes. His lips lightly brush over hers before staying for a long deep kiss. He pulls away. “I’m ready to watch you now Mommy.”
She gets up to go to the pole by the windows. Alex has a stripper pole in just about every room of the place. Girls, other than Bunny, have taken special clients to the bedrooms. It is an extra two-thousand-dollar fee but all have said they got their money’s worth and tipped the girls extra well for the evening. Bunny flips through the music on the phone and plays Love Me Like You Do  for her special routine for bill’s eyes only.  Bill gets out of bed completely naked to walk over to her when she is done. His arousal on display.
“Mommy can you help me now?” Bill looked shyly at her. He had a way of acting so innocent when he was looking less than innocent.”
“Oh, baby boy of course Mommy will always take good care of you when you are such a good boy.” She untied her outfit to let it fall off of her. “Just no more pouting or whiling or Mommy will have to discipline you.”
Bill nodding. He would pick another time to test what she would do to him. Bunny pushed him back towards the bed. He went willingly falling back when he felt it behind his legs. He watched with wide curious eyes as she straddled him. Bunny put his hands on her hip.  She gasped lowering herself to take in his manhood. Whimpering softly her hips rolled to find that spot he hit before. Bill bit his lip watching her as his thrusts pushed in deep.
“Can I touch you more Mommy,” Bill groaned.
“Yes,” Bunny whined.
Bill reached down to work her clit as she road him.
“Fuck, more.” She begged as she road him harder.
When they came together it was like a blessing. Bill held her close. They rested awhile, before Bill ordered Pizza and cloths for her. They showered together making love again before actually getting cleaned up.  She threw on a robe. Bill put jeans on to go get the things that should be at the back door. He comes back. Hands her a bag with a new dress and under garments.
Bill stripped his jeans off and got back in bed with a piece of pizza, “You can leave the cloth in the bag. I think its Naked Sunday.” He chuckles.
Bunny giggle as she slides off the robe. She crawls over to him going to take a bite of his pizza. He pulls it away. They are laughing when Alex is walking past the door.  He smiles at the match even though it means he can no longer tell her everything that has been on his mind this past week. He knocks.
“How’s everything going?” Alex teases as he listens to them scurry.
Bunny puts her robe back on. Bill slides on some boxers before answering the door.
“We’re fine Alex,” Bill leans on the open door.  “What’s up?”
“Can we talk in my office,” He smiles at Bunny. “I will just still him away few moments baby girl.”
“Its fine Daddy,” She giggles. “It will give me a chance to put some clean linens on the bed.”
Alex nods with a grin. Him and Bill walk down the hall.
“Its good to see you, happy brother,” Alex opens the door for Bill to step into the office before him. “But business does have to continue.”
“What do you need me to do Alex?” Bill crosses his arms over his bare chest.
“Gustaf is going to have to heal before working again.” Alex poured a scotch on the rocks. He raised it to Bill, “Drink?”
“No thank you,” Bill waves the offer off. “Do you need me to take his place?”
“Yes,” Alex takes a sip of his drink and walks to his desk to sit. “I know you haven’t worked for the family full time since you were fifteen, but we really need you now. Truth be told you were always a bit better at picking things up and dropping them off then Gustaf. He always wants to try to talk to are friends. You intimidate people more. Especially now. It’s a good trait little brother. I don’t even remember why you stopped helping.”
“Because it fucking sucks,” Bill mumbles. “I had other options Alex. I never thought I’d be back in this whole thing. I’m here now. I will help with what ever you need. Do I have to keep secrets from Bunny?”
Alex chuckles, “She knows everything. She’s good to talk to when things go sideways, isn’t she?”
“Yeah,” Bill blushes.
“Go on and get back to her,” Alex makes a shoo shoo motion with his hand. “Just don’t do anything that makes her want to go against the family. I don’t want to deal with that sort of problem again.”
“What do you mean again?” Bill looked at his brother curiously.
“Nothing,” Alex put his feet up on his desk. “I’m interviewing a possible new girl in a few minutes, Go have your fun with Bunny. Tuesday night you have a job to do.”
Bill nods and heads out. He crosses paths with small nervous looking blonde. He smiles, “break a leg.”
She smiles, “Thanks.”
Bunny and Bill spend the day in bed talking, eating, and having minding blowing sex in her opinion. It is extremely good in his mind. He teaches her some diffident positions that she never thought she would enjoy. He has her toes curling time and time again until he needs to carry her to the bathroom to clean up.
“I better be able to work by Wednesday night,” She laughs.
“We can take a break on Tuesday,” Bill grins.
On Tuesday after he is off work, they decide Bill will move into her loft apartment. They had already been caught naked running after each other in the club by Alex when they thought no one was there. He just suggested they be at least partially dressed when out of the bedroom.
Alex starts sending Bill on runs since Gustaf cannot do it. Everything goes smoother than his first time. Word got around Bill killed all the guys at his first run, so they feared him. The Thomas Family representative just dropped the cash in front of Bill and backed away slowly. Bill grabbed the cash and dropped the products at their bar. Same as he did with Gustaf. He kept the money and cleaned it at his bank the next morning. Bill had gone from not wanting to be apart of the family business at all to doing a shit load of dirty work out of guilt mostly.
Valter’s graduation party was held at the main family home. Angel was by his side stuck to him like glue until Alex needed a private word with him. By that time, she felt comfortable sitting with Eija, Bunny, and Bill. She really wanted to get to know Bunny so maybe she could be a dancer at the club when She moved to Hollywood for Valter. It was perfect timing since two dancers had decided to move on when they were married and only one new dancer was hired. Valter and her were planning to move into Bill’s old place.
Valter grabs a note pad and pen from Alex’s desk as Alex starts to speak.
“We are all so proud you little brother,” Alex gushed
Valter wrote on the paper BUG ON MY CHEST, “Thanks Alex. I worked hard. I’m ready to help the family out how every you need me.”
Alex nods, “I would still like you to work the bar if you would like that. It would entail you balancing the books for that part of the club. You would distribute the tips from the bar tip jar to the girls at the end of the night also. Do you think you could handle that?”
“I could do that. Angel still wants to be a dancer.” Valter writes THEY TOLD ME TO ASK YOU THIS NEXT THIS, “Is there anything more you would like me to do involving other business?”                                                                                                                                                                                                                “Angel can try out as soon as the two of you get settled,” Alex nodded his understanding. “Bill is going to be our delivery man of coca cola to the other bars. As long as the other bars don’t try to bully our family to join them in less legal activities. The Malforals are not happy we refused to do all the things they want our club to be involved in. They pretty much admitted to your brother what happened to his girl was their doing. To tell you the truth I would rather not do business them, but I fear we have to so no one else is hurt.”
Alex was willing to sell out the Malforals. Maybe get rid of them for good if the F.B.I. busted into their club and killed or arrested all of them. He knew they would not get taken in without a fight. It would be good enough pay back for trying to kill Bill and Gustaf.
“Probably a smart idea,” Valter said uncomfortably.
“I have some paperwork for you and I to go over since you will be taken over as head bar tender,” Alex takes the paperwork out of the desk for Valter to sign.
Gustaf and Stellan come in from a walk.
Bill stand with Bunny to introduce her. “Papa this is Bunny Nisson.”
“Nice to meet you Mr. Skarsgard,” She smiles politely.
Stellan looks a little caught off guard for a moment. Then smiles, “Well isn’t this kismet. I knew your Father Miss Bunny. You and Bill use to play in one of those tot cages your mom liked to use while the adults had tea.” He chuckles. “You’re a very lovely woman. Are you Keeping Bill out of trouble?”
“I’m trying,” She giggled
Alex and Valter walked out of the office.
“Excuse me kids,” Stellan nodded. “I need to speak with Alex. He motioned for Alex to follow him outside.
Bill teases Bunny, “I knew you looked farmilar when I saw you.”
“Yeah,” Bunny giggled, “you seriously remember playing in a playpen with me when we were babies.”

Alexandra Savior’s Kind of Feminism
Knowing what establishes art as feminist is a feeling more than anything. The line is very fine between exposing a trope and being that trope, just as it is between acknowledging gender and falling victim to it. With that in mind, there’s an honest feminism in Alexandra Savior’s music that is very refreshing. She does not sing as a woman who is marketing her gender or sexuality, though she does not pretend she is not a woman, either. She sings with a human vulnerability, addressing her longing and desires as a woman, as well as her insecurities as one. She does not fall in line with problematic gendered music because she acknowledges the trappings head-on.
While what I mean by “problematic” may be obvious, I would like to avoid sounding vague: Women should not sell sex for the pleasure of men. There has been a perversion in modern feminism that has allowed for this to take place, for female celebrities to sexualize themselves and call it empowering, even though it is both feeding a patriarchal society and hurting women who are not in that position of influence. It has once again become normal for a female singer to degrade herself using her sexuality through lyrics, clothing and actions, and it still remains profitable.
Savior’s music reminds me of Věra Chytilová’s film Daisies (1966), a film one can only describe as a nightmare for the patriarchy – a feminist apocalypse by way of pure female empowerment and a total structural breakdown of society. The film’s characters appear so feminine that they defy their gender by pushing it to the extreme; in a way, this is what Alexandra Savior’s music is doing too. Aesthetically speaking, her music videos also seem reminiscent of the film.
She only has two albums to date – 2017’s Belladonna of Sadness and 2020’s The Archer – which makes following the 24-year-old artist’s career all the more exciting. Her first album was done in collaboration with Alex Turner, and his musical influence is felt – this is even how I found out about her in the first place, through Turner. It may sound counter-productive to have to speak about Savior in relation to a man, though their collaboration is important to note because I would say they are male and female musical counterparts. Turner’s style, especially since The Last Shadow Puppets’ 2016 Everything You’ve Come to Expect, has matured to a level of extreme confidence, in both his music and performance, and this style seems directly linked to a self-conscious masculinity. Turner’s performance in the music video for his cover of Leonard Cohen’s “Is This What You Wanted?” is flamboyantly masculine, wearing a vest atop bare skin, paired with an ascot, sunglasses and tight, embroidered trousers; he embraces his gender nearly to the point of parody, which takes it to a level beyond simply being a joke. Savior does this with her femininity: she is so feminine that she becomes something beyond any expectations of gender (like the women from Daisies). The music video for “Howl” (off her latest album) is a great example of taking gender expectations to the extreme. If a woman is meant to be submissive to men – awaiting them with a languid disposition – then this video has flipped that notion on its head. Savior lays lifelessly on the floor, on a bed, on a couch (I am reminded of Ramón Casas' painting A Decadent Girl), on a table, on the stairs, on the dirt. She has stripped sex from these poses by making them uncomfortable to look at; it’s as if her message is a dare: I’m here for the taking, if you still want to take me like this.
“Mirage” is one of my favorite songs of hers. It features the singer deciding upon a stage name or alter-ego that will best suit her:
Violet was tickling my fancy Gives out just the right amount of soul I wonder if it makes me sound too old Decided that a Stella or a Candy Seems as if I’m spinning down a pole Swept them over to the stack of no’s
“Anna-Marie Mirage” becomes her new persona, and the change the singer experiences as a result can be seen in the change of the chorus throughout its repetitions: “I sing songs about/Whatever the fuck they want;” “We sing songs about/Whatever the fuck they want;” “We sing songs about/Whatever the fuck she wants.” By the end of the song, her persona has more freedom than she does, much like the freedom one feels behind a mask, though, since the two never merge into one, our singer does not feel that empowerment on her own.
I’ve also become a fan of her more recent song “The Archer.” It’s a reflective love song that exposes her awareness of her own emotional weakness and insecurity, though it addresses this with the distance one has when examining the past:
You ate me right up You spit me back out You bit my head right off with your tiny little mouth I licked the blood from your lips
Is her songwriting cliché? I’d argue that it dances right up to the line of becoming so, which is not at all a criticism – quite to the contrary; her music is rooted in clichés of femininity which is why she is able to critique and subvert it so well. Take “Crying All the Time,” for example. She sings: “He doesn't like it when I cry/And now he's gone, so I'm crying all the time.” The lyrics, and the title, are a joke with a subtle poignancy to them; she is acknowledging a female stereotype of sensitivity (“crying all the time”) and playing that role, while making an ironic protest by saying it is to spite her ex-lover – but at the end of the day, she is still crying. How does one reconcile feminist ideals with involuntary emotion? Savior seems to find that balance here playfully.
We need women like Alexandra Savior to become popular because women who pretend sexual self-exploitation is empowering harm the rest of us. You don’t need to be sexually conservative to be a feminist, just as feeling emotions that have been associated with femininity does not compromise your stance as a feminist. As 2020 has just begun, let’s hope that Savior offers us a pathway to a new type of sonic female empowerment. Her music, and the message carried within it, is definitely worth our attention.
