(also i’m going to tag @transmasc-wizard bc i remember you asked about this a while ago and a lot of this response comes from what i had typed up to respond to YOU lol)
(okay here we go)
there are (putting it very very basically) two main kinds of magic in the Ghost Story Universe: mortem (Death Juice) and vita (Life Juice). they draw from the same source (God Juice) (which is also the source of the apocalypse but that’s another post entirely) and are kind of different aspects of one thing, but still act as opposing forces. equals and opposites, can’t have one without the other, etc etc. the point is that even though they’re two different types of magic they share the same set of rules and operate under the same basic facts. one of the most basic being that magic is physically taxing to use. no magic comes without a cost
so this is pretty straightforward. and generally it isn’t anything too debilitating, but the more powerful the magic and the more magic used, the more damaging the physical effects become (for example: early on agnes’s chitchats with the ghosts she sees don’t really wear on her because it’s a very passive form of her power, but as the plot progresses and she actively draws on it more and more she starts to develop chronic headaches). the more active magic bullshit you do in succession —> the worse you’ll be feeling the next morning. people would usually need to rest for upwards of a few days after performing a major act of magic and the reason The Library focuses so much on endurance and repetition is to prevent that from happening. it’s to the point that some majorly powerful stuff is possible but the benefit of it is almost completely outweighed by the potential damage it would cause.
rambly worbuilding aside, this is really just a preface so it makes sense when i say: vampires and werewolves are what happen when people push their magic to far.
they’re basically the most extreme end of the spectrum for either kind of magic. vamps are a result of overusing vita (blood life stuff), and wolfs are a result of overusing mortem (spooky death stuff). this happens to people when they’re drawing on so much magic that their body literally cannot support it anymore and starts canabilizing itself in order to support the magic and prevent the person from just. coming apart at the seams. a Regular Person body is just incapable of handling that amount of power, so in turn they have to draw their sustenance from a different non-human source. the comparatively small piece-of-magic-apocalypse-juice in them mutates and co-opts the functions of their body in order to save that body from collapse. both vamps and wolves have to feed CONSTANTLY or they risk their bodies giving in and all their organs straight-up failing. it’s a slow transformation process and sort of representative of how much Whatever Caused The Apocalypse has become so deeply ingrained in every part of the new world. again: it presents differently but it’s all the same stuff in the end.
the world is full of monsters and weirdness and general spooky bullshit but vampires and werewolves especially have an ENORMOUS amount of stigma surrounding them because of the fact that most people still see regular magic users as recognizably human, and view the transformation as a transition from Human Person With Emotions Who I Should View As Such Despite This One Weird Thing to Inhuman Monster. most magical creatures aren’t seen as sentient in nature and many of them are actively dangerous to humans, so if someone pushes their abilities to far and ends up undergoing the transformation then it’s seen as a shift from being one of Us (normal people just trying to survive this crazy broken down to world) to being one of Them (unnatural monsters that came about as a result of the evil forest and apocalypse and want to destroy humanity), except that obviously the people who are turned are the same people they were before, just with an extra set of challenges and probably more bloodlust (which i can see being a bit of concern but c’mon. are u really going to let a little killer instinct get in the way of a lasting and meaningful relationship. weak).
They’re also used as an excuse when it comes to hatred of people born with magic at all. bc sure it SEEMS harmless when you kid is learning from their dead grandma or healing a little bit faster than normal, but with ONE WRONG MOVE they could become A VISCOUS BEAST or a BLOODSUCKING MONSTER and do you really want to take that risk?? wouldn’t it be better to stamp that out now before someone gets hurt??? even in places like The Library, which usually serves as a safe-haven for people born w magic, vamps and wolfs are seen as somehow Lesser. The Library toutes them as cautionary tales and failures of magic, basically a warning of what not to do to their students.

Prairie Gay
Plain flag (left), Flag with stripe meanings (right)
This term/flags were originally posted June 5th, 2022.
Last year or so (actually around 2 years now upon re-posting) I made my own take on the lesbian/gay/vincian/enbian flags since I am critinclus/radinclus. However one of the two posts detailing these flags was lost, so I am remaking/renaming them, along with simplifying and cleaning up some stripe meanings.
The original flags I made were 9 stripes, and I didn’t like the way I simplified them into 5 stripes, so I’ve decided to make a simple 6 stripe one. Some of these flags will look very similar to the ones I originally did, and some will look way different.
This flag is coined as a Gay flag, however anyone who is Q4G (Queer for Women,Men,Enbies,etc), WLW/MLM/NBLNB/KLK/XLX, or identifies their attraction to a gender as queer regardless of their own gender or other attractions. (Basically anyone who feels like gay, but may not 100% identify with the gay label for any reason, is allowed to use this flag, as long as they recognize it as the Prairie Gay/Q4G flag. You could call yourself Prairie Queer/Mspec/etc in order to make that connection.)
This flag stands for inclusion and solidarity within the Gay community, and between the Gay community, other Q4G communities, and other non-primarily Q4G Queer communities (Lesbians/Vincians/etc). Generally just look at the stripe meanings if you want the general idea, I go into more detail for my reasoning below each meaning. This is a LONG POST.

The Stripe meanings:
Top/Vibrant Deep Green: Aspec Gay, Monospec Gay, and Mspec Gay inclusion and solidarity.
The Prairie Gay flag is radically inclusive of Aspec and Mspec gays, even though I personally haven’t seen much anti-aspec or anti-mspec stuff coming from general gay spaces (minus some very loud exclus lesbians primarily on twitter, along with those trying to make gay=MLM), so here we are regardless. Monospec Gays should have solidarity with Aspec and Mspec gays.

Second Stripe/Vibrant Sap Green: Multigender Gay, Genderfluid Gay, Genderflux Gay, Monogender Gay, Xenogender Gay, Agender Gay inclusion and solidarity.
Of course these are not the only genders included under this stripe, however these are some of the more excluded and misunderstood even by general gay spaces, so they’re here to explicitly say they’re included under this flag. Monogender Gays should stand with Gays with more complicated gender identities.

Third Stripe/Dark Yellow: Pronoun-Non-Conforming Gay, Gender-Non-Conforming Gay, Pronoun-Conforming Gay, Gender-Conforming Gay Inclusion and Solidarity
This stripe is here due to some exclusion in gay spaces against basically anyone not fitting what a man or woman “looks like”; believing that gay presentation has to be binary. This stripe is for explicit inclusion of they/them, it/its, neopronoun, nounself, emojiself gays, neutral, transneutral, transmasc, lavenderian, amaranthian, butch lesbians, femme vincians, wisterian, transxen, xenic, transbian, transdian gays. Gender and Pronoun conforming gays should include and have solidarity with non-gender/pronoun conforming gays.

Fourth Stripe/Marigold Yellow: Gay and Non-Gay Q4G inclusion and solidarity
This stripe is here to include non-gay Q4G in gay spaces, conversation, etc. This stripe stands for and includes anyone who has Queer love for any gender, and doesn’t primarily identify as gay. This includes lesbian, enbian, veldian, idemic, agenant, etc. This stripe can also include gays who are not explicitly Q4G, and may be MLW/WLM/NBLM/NBLW gays. This stripe also opposes the mentality that the term “gay” is being watered down by non-MLM, and is against the notion that gay=MLM. Non-Gays are not the enemies of gays, and gays should include and have solidarity with other Q4G.

Fifth Stripe/Dirty Orange: Femme Gay, Futch Gay, Butch Gay, Twink Gay, Otter Gay, Bear Gay inclusion and solidarity.
This stripe is here partly for the same reason as stripe number three, however with the added notion that Femme/Futch/Butch are not lesbian exclusive terms, and that Otter/Bear/Twink are not vincian/gay man exclusive terms. There may be many reasons someone would use these terms, Femme/Futch/Butch generally relate to gender-presentation, and Otter/Bear/Twink generally relate to one’s body. Of which there is a lot of fatphobia in queer communities, so this stripe is primarily here to focus on challenging what a gay “looks like”. Futch gays are not the enemies of Femme and Butch gays, and Bear gays and just as valid in their gay identity as Otter and Twink gays. Be inclusive and have solidarity with other gays, even if they don’t “look like” gay. Challenge fatphobia, transphobia, and queermisia in your own communities.

Sixth/Last Stripe/Vibrant Reddish Brown: Otherwise Marginalized Gay inclusion and solidarity.
Like I mentioned in stripe number five, there is not “look” to being gay. This stripe is for the explicit inclusion of otherwise marginalized gays, whether they be BIPOC, a religious minority, trans, intersex, polyamorous, chronically ill and/or disabled, neurodivergent, fat and/or a bear, etc. Include and have solidarity with other gays, whether or not they’re like yourself. Challenge bigoted rhetoric in your own communities.

What is this blog?
This blog is intended to connect, uplift, and celebrate polysexuals and polyromantics. It is NOT a discourse blog, but a blog for positivity, art, and conversation.
the ply flag
What is polysexuality/polyromanticism?
Polysexuals and polyromantics are attracted to multiple genders, but not necessarily all. Polysexuality and polyromanticism are NOT the same thing as polyamory.
How is that different from being bi?
A ply person could be attracted to one binary gender and nonbinary genders, but not the other binary gender, and thus not feel like bi describes them. But a ply person could also fully qualify to identify as bi, but choose not to - honestly, picking one mspec label over another often comes down to taste. There are also ply people who do identify as bi simultaneously - such as myself!
Why is it abbreviated to ply?
The abbreviation 'poly' is already used by polynesians to refer to themselves (polyamorous is shortened to polyam)
What's multisexual/multiromantic/mspec?
The multi spectrum is an umbrella term that unites all people who are attracted to more than one gender, such as bi, pan, ply, and omni people. This blog stands for mspec solidarity and supports non-ply mspecs. We do NOT approve of infighting.

Pluralian: someone who embraces their attraction to multiple genders fully

What's monosexism?
Monosexism is the oppression of mspec people on the basis of being attracted to multiple genders (e.g. biphobia, panphobia).

Of course! You can be ply and any other queer identity at the same time. No one can stop you. (Yes, this is me saying i support mspec lesbians)
Can i be ply if i'm not same gender attracted?
You absolutely can, in fact many people who previously identified as straight start identifying as ply out of respect for their nonbinary partners.
Can i be ply if i'm cis/not nonbinary?

Taichi also does his best to support Sora through this time period,
even if he doesn’t always know what to say, himself, he tries.
No matter what roads they end up taking in the end,
the two continue to support each other all throughout
and equally value their strong platonic friendship.
