As usual, Dixie wanted a long ride in the mule today. It was a fun afternoon celebrating Grandma’s birthday. She was happy and surprised that we all got together with her. The day was perfect to go in and out of the house.

when i was around 9 my family cat died and i was understandably upset about it. so a few days later in my elementary catholic class (italian thing. ask mussolini about it and then hang him again) i drew a picture of "what i thought heaven looked like". and what heaven looked like to me was god standing around with an arm around jesus' shoulders being like "and THEN my wonderful son did this..." with jesus looking visibly embarrassed, because that's how a good dad is supposed to act, while all the angels and souls of the departed sat at their feet looking impressed in their wings and haloes. various pets being among them, such as my cat, my grandpa's old dog etc, also behaloed and winged. except when i went to show my drawing to the teacher explaining my artistic thought process, she looked at it and went "nice. but animals don't go to heaven because they don't have souls like us."

i wish. oh how i wish every day of my life that i'd been the hypersensitive, quick-to-tears kid that would've undoubtedly triggered a whole class religious schism when my classmates found out why i was screaming and sobbing my eyes out. but alas, i just discarded her theological theory altogether. what a silly woman she was. she must've never had pets, otherwise she'd clearly know they DO have a soul. boy, was she gonna get a surprise when she got to heaven.

now that i think back on it, you have to laugh at the heartless, eye-opening cruelty of looking a grieving child in the eye and saying "sorry kid, little mina's not getting into heaven." what a succinct summary of catholicism. anyway, I'm not christian anymore.

A continuation of sorts, of this other drawing I made of the Feänorians, which was roughly inspired by Filipino culture. I originally planned on completing this for @nolofinweanweek, specifically the first prompt about how Fingolfin and Feänor's families got along, but life got in the way and I didn't finish it in time. More background/my long rambles under the cut:

Pagmamano - touching the back of an elder's hand on one's forehead - is not restricted to family, but it's usually done in the context of elder family members. I have many memories of attending family reunions and being told to follow the other kids to "mano po" a grandfather, aunt, or uncle. While Elves don't have elderly relatives, per se, I thought this image was too fun not to draw. Also, I love envisioning Feänor as that cool uncle who gives the most amazing gifts but like, the kids are intimidated by him, so they have to be told (and supervised) by their parents to line up and greet him properly. Fingolfin's just standing there making sure his kids all greet their uncle. (Maedhros, presumably having already finished his greetings, is sidetracking Fingon.)

All this to say, I think that these guys didn't have the perfect relationship. But. You can't convince me Finwë didn't get the whole family together from time to time on some sort of family reunion camping trip. And Feänor just has to begrudgingly tolerate it because he can't say no to his dad. While the kids, obviously, have a great time.

I really hate doing this, but I don't really know what else to do, so. My grandpa passed 3 days ago. He lived w me and my mom, so all of his expenses, medical bills, etc will fall mostly on us and we're scrambling.

i don’t think john interacts with music in the same way jade does. Jade listens to music to fill her loneliness and to hear other people’s voices. The music she listens to is largely music that grandpa harley had lying around. Some of her favorite songs are ones her grandpa would sing to her as lullabies and would play in the mornings. Music is a way to connect with other people for her (it’s why dave sends her his mixes!!!! he knows she’s big into music!!!) she listens to anything her friends send her. She likes to play her bass for the plants and for bec. (She has a whole playlist of songs to play when bec gets anxious!!!) It makes her life easier just to have something in the background. John however doesn’t listen to music that often. He likes the music in the games he plays and the movies he watches enough but that’s about it. He’s not really gonna go out of his way to listen to music. And when he does listen to music it’s usually more “nonsense” songs like rock lobster. he needs a silly tune whereas Jade needs something she can hum along to

My dad was very against me getting a dog and then IMMEDIATELY fell in love with her. Like he absolutely adores her. He started off like 'uggh I don't want to end up having to take care of it' and now he REQUESTS to babysit her every couple weeks or so just for fun. He will just sit there petting her and chuckling and saying "She just makes me laugh :)" to himself. He calls himself her 'grandpa'. The bond between an aging father and the pet he didn't want is probably the deepest love on earth.

So silly little thing, all of my favorite characters end up dying. Like in every single show, anime, or Manga I read/watch, my favorite characters always die. Like for JJBA, I still haven't read part 7, but for the past six parts, my favorite characters have all died. For Danganronpa, my favorite characters died. For TBHK, my favorite characters died. (granted some were already dead but) For a fucking VOCALOID song I was listening to, my favorite character died. (Guchirys awsome go listen to their music) And now that I'm in the BSD fandom, I am terrified. This series isn't afraid to kill of literal children, and it scares me.
