Can I just Say . . . Episode 7

Tonight’s episode ? As brilliant as it was, as always, the ending scene ? I am literally so f*cling proud of Diego Luna and this show. The CONTINUATION and BRAVERY of political and social representation for us Latinos is just phenomenal.

I cannot tell you how many times that I see - DAILY - my people be harassed and bothered by police and authoritative figures simply for just BEING.

The moment that Cassian noticed the gang of guys running behind him? I just KNEW what was coming. It was no mistake either that he was dressed similarly to them as well, a common excuse for police to target Latinos in the U.S. Looks. Also not too mention is “costume” for that scene? He was wearing huaraches!! A Mexican-style shoe!! If that doesn’t tell you what Disney was intending to address then I don’t know what will at this point.

And that’s all the police base it off of. LOOKS. The amount of times I’ve witnessed my people get harassed, searched, and wrongly accused just because of how they’re dressed, speak, and look (skin tone) is more than I can count.

When Cassian kept saying “I’m just a tourist” and questioning why he was being arrested, I felt so much pride in the fact that the creators of this show chose to push these uncomfortable truths onto the audience.

I’ve heard some backlash from racist Star Wars fans around the internet, claiming that Andor is making the police seem overly brutal and immoral, but unfortunately that’s just the truth for majority of the police in the U.S. It’s not a lie.

It happens. And I FRICKING HOPE for every single racist Star Wars fan who dislikes the show because of these topics being addressed and the fact that it is a Mexican playing the lead CONTINUES to feel uncomfortable because my people deserve to have their story told and they DESERVE to have their representation shown.

Also it’s come to my attention, that Clem who is played by a black actor was wrongly accused of throwing the rock and then hung without question. Yet again, another stab at police brutality and racism within the United States. This show just keeps going higher and higher in its beauty and uniqueness. No other Star Wars content has even dared to address these issues and Andor is doing it with such grace.
