my ideal makorrasami imagines are always like

asami comes home to her girlfriend and boyfriend after a long day of being a genius engineer and fortune 500 ceo

she picks up bolin on the way because it's mako's birthday so they're having a little get-together

they head to the pool because that's usually where korra can be found when the weather is super warm, and obviously mako will be there too keeping her company

she and bolin hear raised voices as they approach. omg the girlfriend and boyfriend are fightinggggg

it's a very sophisticated argument. they're just saying, over and over, "nuh-uh!" "uh-huh!" "NUH-UH!" "YEAH-HUH!"

asami and bolin round the corner to see korra and mako glaring at each other, cheeks flushed, eyes glassy, absolutely drunk off their gourd

asami's just like "pregaming, are we? i hope you left some alcohol for the rest of us" and raises one devastating eyebrow

korra and mako turn to her and their faces light up immediately. "asami!! you're here!!!"

(the eyebrow does nothing to dampen their enthusiasm, which is fine, because they're very endearing drunks and she is very much enjoying this)

then they turn back to each other and are like "SHE'LL agree with me. THEN you'll see. i'm right and you're wrong. you're the wrongest forever and ever. no YOU are" etc. etc.

this of course quickly devolves into good ol rough and tumble rasslin

bolin's like "ooh ooh ooh! what are we talking about? i love being part of conversations! i want to have an opinion!!!"

by which point korra has mako in a headlock and they turn in tandem to look at asami (bolin's input is not required) and very earnestly ask her who the best kisser is

they're looking at her so expectantly and korra has forgotten about the headlock so now they're just hugging as they wait with baited breath for asami's verdict

and asami's like oh well uh guys i can't really...that's not...apples oranges et cetera, you're both extremely good kissers, really top notch, full marks for everyone, i uh always love any sort of kissing that we get to do, um, together,

just digging herself into this awkward hole, right. because no one expects that question

mako's mouth drops open. "woah," he says

"yeah," says korra

as one, their heads swivel toward each other

"the BEST kisser...is ASAMI!!!!!" they say in unison

they stare into each other's eyes for a beat

suddenly their mouths are colliding as they LAUNCH themselves toward each other and begin making out frantically and with great fervor

occasionally coming up for air to say such things as "you're so smart" "no YOU" "no ASAMI is" "asami's the smartest" "i love asami" "she's the best ever for always" amidst the most embarrassingly sloppy kissing known to man

bolin's like "soooo. just to make sure i'm getting this straight"

asami: uh-huh

bolin: the reason korra and my brother are kissing in front of us so enthusiastically...

asami: yeah

bolin: ...is because they are in SUCH complete agreement...

asami: right

bolin: ...that YOU are good at kissing?

asami: that appears to be the case, yes

asami can hear bolin facepalm somewhere off to the side, but she only has eyes for the ridiculously adorable and uncoordinated makeout session taking place in front of her

cousin tu's voice comes from the direction of the house. "oh dude they're done arguing? right on"

bolin: how long have they been arguing?

tu: idk, like half an hour? for a while they were just arm-wrestling but korra let mako win because it's his birthday, and he got all cranky about it

bolin: uh-huh. so how did they get from that...to this?

tu: well obviously then korra said it doesn't matter if she's the best arm-wrestler because mako's the best kisser

bolin: wait

tu: and mako was all, "no YOU'RE the best kisser" and korra went "no YOU are"

bolin: so you mean to tell me...

tu: and i got bored after like, five minutes of that so i went back inside

bolin: ...all this time they were fighting because they each think the OTHER person is better at kissing?

tu: well, yeah. i mean if you ask me they both seem to be pretty bad at kissing lol. but whatever, it's not my problem. no offense, asami!

bolin: they're probably better at kissing when they're sober. i mean, this is just embarrassing. right, asami? please tell me this is not what you're working with on a daily basis. asami? hello? asami?

but asami isn't listening. she's gazing at korra and mako with the goofiest smile on her face. her pupils have turned into heart shapes. without conscious decision on her part she clasps her hands and presses them sappily to her bosom

tu: dude, maybe we should, like, give them a minute

bolin: is this even safe? what if they bite each other's lips off?

tu: korra's a healer, right? like, i'm not worried about it

asami doesn't notice them leave. she's so full of love for these two ridiculous idiots that it's spilling out of her in the form of literal tears. she's crying from how much she loves them

this continues until korra and mako in their clumsy enthusiasm actually fall into the pool. korra bends the water away from mako before he can drown and then immediately tries to punch it for endangering him. asami runs over to get them out and they both see that she's been crying. this is followed by a five-minute sequence of mako frantically petting her hair while she tries to convince korra to put away the fire-dagger, no one has been mean to her, everything is all right, korra, no wait, don't go into the avatar state, you're going to suck the cake into the element vortex -

mako thinks it's very unfair that the day after his birthday, he's the only one who wakes up with a hangover. apparently the avatar, who's been up since the buttcrack of dawn merrily inventing the new field of batterbending to replace the cake she and her past lives destroyed, is above such concerns. asami kisses his nose with great affection and, it must be said, terrible morning breath. "how about this," she says. "on my birthday, korra and i will get drunk and attempt to eat each other's faces and you can babysit. sound good?"

yes, that sounds good, he thinks. after all, taking turns has served them pretty well so far.

Do you have recommendations for shows/books/whatever with canon/basically canon polyamory?

ok the only media w officially canon polyam i personally consumed are Iron Widow and Hades.

Iron Widow is a mecha scifi/chinese fantasy book, it has pacific rim mechanics, so it takes 2 ppl to pilot the mecha but its more dystopian in that the pilot (male) usually drains the life force of his concubine (female). the mc has a guy shes interested in from the start but she pushes him aside to seek her goals to become a concubine pilot (theres a very good reason for this but i dont wanna give too much away) ends up being forced to work w the most dangerous pilot (spoilers hes actually a misunderstood sweetheart and i love him), her first love somehow finds his way back into her life so he can be their ally and its very clear from the first time he meets the other guy that this bitch is bi af. At one point he literslly saves their lives and i wont elaborate on that cause again spoilers but someone mentioned it in a propaganda ask. They canonically fall in live w each other and start dating. Please look up the trigger warnings first cause theres some heavy subjects addressed in this book. The book itself has trigger warnings listed at the start so if u find it at a book store u can check them this was too.

Hades is a roguelike videogame w dating sim mechanics (ish) -you give gifts to characters to learn more about them, and theres two romance options but you can romance both at once, they're both aware of and okay with it, hinting that they mightve had a past even before zagreus was born (its greek gods one is death incarnate the other is one of the furies, they've basically existed since forever)

ive been told Leverage is like the korrasami of polyam, as in they were as polyam as they could be in a show from 2010, so it sounds like its canon but not explicit because they couldnt get away with that.

The girls from Amphibia are apparently in a similar situation, heavily implied canon, someone told me it was confirmed by people who worked on the show, but i dont think its explicitly stated.

The Kane Chronicles apparently also has canon polyam, although its 2 bodies, cause I think one of them has a god in him or something? I never read the books, but I was told Sadie (i think thats her name? The girl) is in love w both of them, and kinda dating both too i think?

I dont know if Singing in the Rain is canon but theres that kiss gif that got prrtty popular on tumblr where kathy kisses one of the guys then the other, so it looks canon? or at least implied canon?

Sense8 as some people have mentioned has 1 officially confirmed to be canon throuple, 1 that has a lot of hints to confirm but a lot of ppl see it as a gay couple w a very supportive friend ig and someone else said in general because of the plot u could kind of see the 8 of them as a big polycule, although that one isnt canon

HoneyWorks/Heroine Tarumono is one of those songs turned novel turned anime. i dont think its confirmed canon but theres a lot of stuff pointing to the possibility, you mightve see @non-fantasy telling me about them in a few asks. im obsessed and ive yet to watch anything

Penumbra Podcast: Second Citadel has Rilla/Sir Damien/Lord Arum, i also haven't listened to this one but a lot of people told me rilla and damien were in a pre-established relstionship, both got crushed on lord arum separately, talked about it and worked things out to now be a canon polycule

im She-Ra (netflix) theres a trio that is implied to be a polycule at the end, a lot of ppl called them canon in the notes but i dont personally ember it being confirmed? i am very forgetful tho. It's Rogelio/Kyle/Lonnie, unfortunately they lost the prelim round

What's frustrating about being a supporter of a mlm ship is the immediate presumption of the shippers' identity as a "cis heterosexual woman" who fetishsizes homosexuality (not that that problem doesn't exist, but that's not what this post is for).

Our identities also include:

Cis gay man

Gay/bi/pan trans/woman/man/enby

Cis/trans polyamorous gay/bi/pan woman/man/enby

Cis/trans gay/bi/panromantic asexual woman/man/enby

On and on, the intersections within the LGBTAI+ community are infinite.

Yet our mainstream media shies away from canonizing mlm relationships on screen, by whatever arbitrary measure deemed correct by the heteronormative power structure, which means bi or pansexuality and gender fluidity can be masked beneath an optically cis heterosexual relationship that is spoken of as queer only in dialogue.

I am a queer person. The argument I most often see is that being in a relationship with someone of the opposite gender doesn't negate a person's bi or pansexuality. This is ABSOLUTELY TRUE in real life. I'm in such a partnership, and here's the thing ...

When I share my queer identity with others and they see my partner of 15 years, the question I get asked is:

"How can you still be ×-sexual if you're in a heterosexual relationship?"

It is as though, by committing to someone who presents as the opposite gender, my lived experience (all the people I loved deeply in the past; the pain of coming out not once, not twice, but three times; the pain of permanently cutting off people in my life) was completely erased. My partner and I are optically viewed as "straight" despite how we actually define our individual genders and sexuality. Despite continuing to feel queer attraction. Despite continuing to remember previous queer loves with incredible fondness. Despite still celebrating with friends in the community and proudly bearing my flags.

This is why I truly believe there needs to be a greater push for more same-sex representation ON SCREEN in the MAINSTREAM. We cannot have authentic stories of the queer experience without it. It is a stepping stone to representing all the other identities that are swept under the rug. There is a big difference between knowing who you are in real life and interpreting what big money media is doing with your identity for the sake of pleasing the heteronormative masses and offering only subtext for the queer community in order to get the highest amount of views. Subtext, which by the way, is immediately dismissed as reading too deeply into it!

Well, guess what? Being queer inherently means reading deeply into subtext. This has been our language for decades. I should know, I'm OLD. Picking up subtle cues was and is part of queer courtship in real life because you absolutely could not out yourself in public. In more than half of the U.S. that is STILL the case!

I have a very close cis straight friend who thought Korrasami came out of nowhere. I had to sit them down and explain all the little cues, including the infamous hairpin in Asami's lips close-up. They remarked, "Wow, that's a lot of work. Is that how it worked when you tried to meet someone in public?"

YES! And it's 2023 coming on 2024, and we still have to go through this extra bullshit cis heterosexual people take for granted! If there is even a hint of queer mlm romance, you know what happens? They either get separated or killed or BOTH!

They are separating us and killing us on screen because we can only exist in subtext and tragedy. And then, when we dare to hope another ship might make it, that finally, we will have our moment in the sun, we are told:

"You weren't baited. Nothing was confirmed. What did you expect? They're just friends. You looked too deeply into it and did this to yourself. You are gross and keep migrating from one gay ship to another, you homosexual fetishsizing misogynistic pervert."

These people take intersectional social justice language and weaponize it against us. They moralize us on our own identities without even knowing who we are or what we've been through. They think we're desperate and delusional for the audacity of hoping we might see a happy ending that reflects us in the mainstream.

I am so, so tired.

TLOK Comics

I AM REALLY SICK OF THE TLOK CANON COMICS AVOIDING ANYTHING THAT PRIMARILY FOCUSES ON KORRA AND ASAMI.

Turf Wars didn't really address their relationship going forward since we never see them talking about it directly outside of that one moment in Spirit World (the how did you know moment, which doesn't address their relationship going forward), brief meet the parents (ends badly), talking to Kya about acceptance of LGBTQ couples, and saying i love you at the end. Worse, Turf wars was a damsel in distress trope (these need to stop; it's boring/bad writing).

Why can we not have scenes of them talking about their relationship, how they'll live together and where, some of the rituals they start doing together, etc. Them having a cute date night, that gets interrupted, they are badass together, then they go back to doing their date night. Or Avatar Korra doing some Avatar-mission with Asami at her side being just as badass.

Like, I do not understand why they avoid them so damn much. They just bait us with fancy covers and snippets that barely cover their relationship. Also, I'd love to see the comic writer for a Korrasami comic be a bi or lesbian writer, so we can actually get solid writing for once. Is that so hard to ask?

Do we need to start a petition to demand this?

And I'd like to also demand that they fucking STOP nerfing Asami? She is perfectly capable of taking down nearly anyone by herself. She took down six Equalists and a mech tank in Book 1 for heaven's sake. She took down Red Lotus people in one move in Book 3. Rebuild an airship and built a sandsailer in Book 3. She flies planes and can invent ridiculously fancy tech like hummingbirds.

And yet they keep giving us shitty damsel in distress tropes with her. STOP IT.

Let Korra and Asami work as badass partners for once.

Anyway, that's my rant of the century.

No, I don't want to read another one-shot that doesn't feature them. *sighs* I'm just so frustrated.

[EDIT: I want to be clear her that Asami being kidnapped by Tokuga is the literal definition of damsel in distress. Yes, she uses her badass engineering skills to try to ruin his plans, but this ultimate fails as he overpowers her and starts choking her. Korra comes to her rescue. Why is this so frustrating? Asami is a badass fighter who can kick someone off a motorcycle and steal their spear while at it in Book 3. She took down six equalists at the same time after blowing up their mech tank in book 1. She's more than capable of taking down Tokuga, and yet PLOT made it so she couldn't. It was jarring and a bit unbelievable considering what we've seen of her capabilities in the actual show. We see the same thing in Ruins of Empire. Where her, Bolin, and Mako are overwhelmed by only a handful of soldiers. Asami could have taken down several of them herself, and Mako's lightning is highly effective against metal. Yet they're still taken? Again, it's the damsel in distress plot. This time Asami's mind and body is kidnapped (due to brainwashing), and Korra must save her. It's boring and shitty writing.]

I love korra! I love the legend of korra so much!! There's so much i love about this show!!

I grew up with atla, i remember coming home from school when i was a kid and watching atla and i loved it and later on, in my late teens i rewatched atla, from start to finish and i actually absorbed everything and i loved it so much more, atla is damn near perfect of a story for me!

And then i watched lok for the first time and i loved it too! I love the expansion of the world, i love the expansion on the lore, i love seeing how the world changed and develop, i loved republic city, i love that the world didn't stop after atla and that republic city was a something that the characters of atla developed. I love how much lore we got in lok, i love knowing that the lion turtle that came out of nowhere in the finale of atla, is actually the reason why bending exists in the first place, i love wan and ravva so much! I loved finding out how the avatar came to be!

I love the villains of this show, they're so much more than just straight up power hungry villains! I know some people think that amon being a bloodbender undermine the oppression of non benders and even though I'd have loved seeing a high level non bender villain, i absolutely love the story with amon! The villains of lok are genuinely one of the best part of this show!

And i just love korra! I love her journey, her growth and seeing the way some people talk about her, just makes me love her even more!

Yes, season 2 is my least favorite, but it's still so good and so fun! Some people act like it's the worst thing in television and it's just crazy! These people are so fucking dramatic!!

Yes, lok has flaws, yes, it's not as "perfect" as atla, but it's so fucking good!! And now that I'm older, i prefer lok, because it is more mature and more complex and just very compelling.

There's probably one thing i disliked about lok and it's the love triangle from the first 2 seasons, and even then, i didn't hate it, i was just annoyed.. and you know what, I'm more than okay with having 2 seasons of annoying love triangle stuff because it lead to korrasami!! Even though they barely got any screen time and some people still try to deny their relationship, I'm so glad it exists, I'm glad that korrasami is not just some non canon ship that fans like, it's actually fucking real! The creators made it as canon as they could!

In conclusion: i love atla, i love lok, i love korra and i fucking love korrasami!!

Tlok Lord of the rings au because i'm squishing my hyperfixations together like a crazy lil 5 year old.

Korra- I'd say dwarf... she matches the stereotypical dwarf personality to a T. Notoriously stubborn, loyal and hardy. The most resistant to the corruption of evil as well. Also, controversial opinion... out of the Krew, Korra deserves a beard most. Also. Give her an axe. Or a sledgehammer. Let her wreak havoc. I think her family would come from Khazad-dûm and be directly related to the line of Durin. Though I feel like she'd reside in the Blue Mountains and unlike most of her kin, she'd have an appreciation for water and the sea.

Asami- Elf. Elf. With her glorious hair and agility??? Hell yeah. She'd be descended from the Avari and live in Mirkwood. I think the moral ambiguity and hostility of the Mirkwood elves touches nicely on Asami's original role as a villain. Also coming from such a combative area would have her learning combat as well, if even better, than her canon counterpart.

Also korrasami would be super cute as a dwarf/elf relationship lol. Korra's already canon shortie. And it would replicate their little rivalry in season 1. Just instead of fighting over Mako, they're fighting over centuries of mutual racial animosity.

Bolin and Mako - ok. Im getting real controversial here. Hobbits. Fucking hobbits. Now. Hear me out. More Brandybuck/Took coded hobbits I'd say. Probably grown up in Bree... tiny orphans in a big world. So sad.

Bolin is an easy pick. Although he's pretty big and bulky, his character has a lot in common with typical hobbits. Not a coincidence that my two fave characters are him and Samwise Gamgee... I love my dirt himbos. Bolin has that gentle, cheerful hobbit vibes. And he likes food too lol.

Mako also has hobbit vibes, I'd argue. However he has a lot of that hobbit typical caution ans suspicion towards the outside world. I could see him valuing a home and prosperity...give this man a hobbit hole He's so stressed he deserves it.

Tenzin, Kya and Bumi. - half elves, Rivendel. Tenzin is basically Elrond, ok? Bumi chose humanity good for him. Kai is the scruffy human they adopted à la Aragorn.

Lin and the Beifongs- honestly was stumped at this one... but I kinda think humans, particularly Dúnedain of Arnor. A noble people, now acting as Rangers, protectors of the land... matches Lin, our favourite chief of police, huh?

just rewatched the final scene of the Korra finale, and I still love it so much. I love Korrasami and I’m so glad they got to go on that vacation they deserved. Truly cannot believe that next year will be their 10th anniversary!

Ever since I finally watched LoK a few years back, I always watch the final scene (if not the entire episode) every year on the anniversary.

It's legit like a holiday for me. Every year, once it gets to December, I always tell my friends and family, "You know, it's not long till December 19th, which marks the X year anniversary of when Korra and Asami went off to the Spirit World together and became a couple." At this point, they know just to nod and go along with it 😂

They're such a good couple, even despite all the network's efforts to get in the way of it. I know some people nowadays don't consider it "enough" or whatever, but I think that's bullshit given it came out in 2014 before gay marriage was even legalized throughout the United States (where Nickelodeon is from). Holding hands might seem like so little now, but this was the beginning. It was stuff like Korrasami that helped pave the way for popular shows like She-Ra, Arcane, and The Owl House. I'll get off my soapbox now, but c'mon, we need to remember how far we've come.

I'm so glad that Korrasami is canon. I care about both Korra and Asami as characters and I love how they managed to take a sticky situation and make a true friendship from it. And then later, building a beautiful love story from that friendship (friends to lovers is one of my favorite tropes). Just...

Happy Korrasamiversary everybody. Nine years now. Can't believe it.

putting the rest under a cut so y'all are free to ignore this if you want. i'm just rambling anyway and, again, these are just my personal opinions.

okay like i gotta hand it to blue eye samurai like it's genuinely impressive that they've written their characters so well, like each one of them feels so real and fully-realised

and as a consequence of that, it actually. for the first time ever. has me rooting against a sapphic ship becoming canon endgame LIKE LMAO ???? i didn't think that was POSSIBLE but here we are ???

cuz like if you know me at all you know i usually instantly latch onto any femslash ship at any given opportunity. like i don't think yall understand. i was ride or die for korrasami before it was even remotely a thing, like at that point korrasami was still a CRACK SHIP in the fandom and i was gunning for it immediately and begging them both to leave mako's stupid ass!!!

but SOMEHOW this show, with all its gender fuckery galore and all its well written characters, has somehow made me look at the mizu/akemi ship and say "i'll pass." like dont get me wrong i was pinning my hopes on it initially in the first episode, but by the time i got to the end??? NAH.

like don't get me wrong they ARE cute and sexy on paper and i DO definitely see them developing feelings for each other (mizu towards akemi especially, less so the other way around because akemi just does not strike me as the pining type) but for an endgame? nah. it'd be weird and messy for both of them like!!! they'd be bad for each other!!!

they both want and need completely different things in life (mizu wants vengeance but needs acceptance/belonging; akemi wants freedom but needs autonomy and empowerment).

and they don't even share much in common that would help them bond in a romantic way? like not even interests-wise, but like. personality-wise too. their perceptions of life and approaches and experiences all directly contrast each other. like i know that they're narrative foils and all, which is great, excellent really, but romantically? there is no common ground between them.

besides, of course, both being AFAB and struggling with the patriarchy and misogyny, both having a surrogate father figure who raised them (swordfather for mizu; seki for akemi). aside from those things, they diverge in almost every single way?

like i do get the appeal of the "yin and yang" dynamic of opposites attract in ships (i have so many such ships from other fandoms after all), so i do suppose that, if given enough time for a really long and intense slow burn, it could work. but with all the plot plot plot the show's got going on, i don't know if that's going to be possible, especially now that mizu is ??? apparently going to london ????

and what would their endgame even look like? the two of them running off into the sunset together? why? when akemi has everything she wants and needs in edo palace? which, by the way, is completely the opposite of what mizu wants and needs, as mizu needs a place where she is free to be herself and is accepted and loved for who she is. she does not need, nor want, a life of political intrigue. she is not made for it, nor is it meant for her. akemi, on the other hand, is perfectly suited for such a life, while being completely unsuited for a life on the road, travelling, or living on a farm in the middle of nowhere. nor would akemi like or enjoy such a life either! she'd get freedom, yes, but it would hardly be fulfilling, especially now that she has decided that she wants greatness!

i don't know. if they become canon endgame, the show better put in the work. because this is a netflix adult animated show with the freedom to do that (unlike, say, cartoons on nickelodeon and disney where the creators all faced heavy censorship to get some rep in), so if they're taking the sapphic endgame route, they better buck up and put their backs into it because seeing the state of it right now, the chemistry is bone-dry and the prospects are disastrous!!!!

so until further developments prove me wrong and change my mind, every time i see mizu/akemi content somehow escape the confines of the mute function, i just reenact the gengar gay wrongs gif:

How do you feel about the representation ( or lack thereof) in TOH?

I'm not sure to which representation you're referring to but I will try to be comprehensive. Just a note: representation in media is highly subjective; one person may feel seen by a show's representation, another may not. For example, as an ace person, I don't feel like Lilith is good ace rep because it is never even mentioned in the show. It's only in supplemental materials. If your show is going to tout itself as being diverse then the bare minimum you should do is put that diversity front and center so that even the most casual fan can see it.

If you like Lilith's representation or any other character from the show, then I will not take that from you.

The biggest draw the show has is its queer representation; we've come a long way from Korrasami, now we have our main character in a sapphic romance that forms a key part of both characters. We have pride flags as a casual part of the background, non-binary characters, and no one angsts over being queer, it's just a normal state of being. I feel like this is the strongest aspect of the show in terms of representation and I'm glad people are feeling seen as a result of it.

Where I feel the show needed more work on was racial/ethnic diversity. TOH is a rather white show; despite Luz being biracial and having poc friends, most other significant characters are white-coded. Eda, Lilith, Amity, Belos, and Hunter are all white or white-coded characters and they take up significant portions of the overall story while Gus, Willow, Raine, and Darius are in supporting roles. This is especially egregious with Gus and Willow since they're the first witches that Luz befriends but they don't have as much focus in the later seasons, especially once Hunter is introduced. It's also worth noting that any kind of character development the non-white characters have is nearly always in relation to white characters: Willow and Amity, Gus and Hunter, Raine and Eda, and Darius and Hunter/the previous Golden Guard.

Another thing that others have pointed out is that despite the number of poc in key roles, the overall aesthetic of the Boiling Isles is very Euro-centric, even in the Deadwardian Era (its name a pun on an English monarch). It's such a missed opportunity to not play around with the overall aesthetic of your show and have it be more unique looking, maybe take influence from real world cultures and apply that to how magic is used based on a character's background.

The show is also touted for its disability representation and neurodivergent characters; however the former is more of a metaphor and the latter wasn't intentional. Fans noticed that Luz displays signs of ADHD and Dana admitted that she wasn't written that way but approves of the interpretation. It's great that fans can project their own head canons and for the creator to be fine with it, but it would have been even better if she was written that way from the start; really show how people perceive her as different because of how she is. We got some of this with how she struggled in school and how she loves learning but not about what the boring topics in school but by then, it's rather late. I feel like the show had a missed opportunity showing how isolated Luz was in the human realm; we got her high jinks and school pranks but nothing really that would make her an outcast and thus want to leave Earth.

Eda's curse as a metaphor for disability has been well-received but it makes me wonder what a disabled witch would look like in the show? Someone who was born with weak magic (Willow doesn't count she was in the wrong track). How would they navigate the track system? What aid would they need to perform basic magic? What prejudice would they face?

We get that in the form of Hunter, who while technically not a witch, functions as a disabled witch. And we get how he had to work twice as hard to earn any decent respect but it's not really because he lacks magic, it's more due to the fact that the coven heads perceive favoritism as the emperor's nephew.

We get some more challenges a disabled witch would face when Eda loses her magic but it doesn't really go anywhere and she utilizes her harpy form and seems to get along fine.

When I think about how disabilities are usually represented as just metaphors in popular media, I think of Toph. In Avatar, Toph is literally blind, there's no metaphor here. But the show is extremely clever depicting how she navigates the world using earth bending and justifies why she is the master of her craft because she was taught by the original earth benders and uses it ALL the time.

TOH could have done something similar by having a character with a real world disability and think of a creative way to show how they utilize the magic in their universe.

Basically, the show is very good at depicting queerness, but could have been better in its disability representation, and definitely dropped the ball on its poc characters.

Someone claimed that I would be crying if RWBY's new IP owners would still make BB a thing.

Pffft as if.

A lot of US-based companies have been notorious for stopping any and all programs from greenlighting any content that could feature BL and GL. Voltron was infamous for killing the gays and backpedaled and made Shiro marry a man we practically knew less of than the man he left for Earth during the Kerberos mission.

Nickelodeon was infamous for stopping Korrasami from ever happening forcing Bryke from making it obvious that it was hidden behind subtext, they also had to fight for a simple hand-holding scene.

Cartoon Network's Steven Universe was a constant battle between the showrunners and the company because of the show's entire execution of its premise.

The only company left is Disney but that's because they're infamous for appearing progressive but never being genuine about everything.

Besides, who would buy a property like RWBY after the fiasco that was Ice Queendom? Hey, maybe it'd be bought if Blake gets a new VA, but nah, Blake's VA actions soured any interest any Japanese company has over RWBY,

if a Western company wants to dig gold out of shit, be my guest lol.

I could care less if BB had sapphic moments because those sapphic moments stole the show instead of it focusing more on Ruby's trauma we got treated to a scene where Blake and Yang were being forced to confess to each other and thank the fucking stars none of my ships were forced to confess their love to each other.

And its not like I need my ships to be canon.

But sure Yang and Blake kissing is more important that the literal youngest having a mental breakdown, committing on what amounts to be suicide but sure its more important for Blake and Yang kiss.

On Twitter there are polls to elect the best wlw ship, and I couldn't help but notice the snide remarks about RWBY and Bumbleby. I can understand misogynistic and homophobic men shitting on the show, but queer people? Why? Aren't we on the same side? Why are you insulting bmblb???

Yeah, I've seen it and honestly, the whole thing is both sad and hilarious. Bumbleby, Catradora, Bubbline, Lumity, Damie, Korrasami, Xena/Gabrielle-- I'm literally a fan of most of the ships in that poll. People attacking one ship or another are fucking stupid, because they're all great and important in their own ways. This poll thing is supposed to be fun and people are taking it too personal.

Now, people attacking RWBY and Bumbleby over this is sad as well, because they probably haven't watched the show and are going with just what they've heard from haters. Because if you are queer and you actually watch the show, then you know that Bumbleby is going to be canon and CRWBY's not baiting anyone. They have canonical romantic feelings towards one another. It is clear that they are going to be a couple, they simply are taking their time to develop them. It's called a slowburn for a reason, guys.

People talking about the lack of rep in this show is also kind of hilarious. Blake is canonically bisexual, Yang is canonically sapphic as well and, like I said, it's clear that they are going to be a couple. Ilia is also a lesbian. Saphron and Terra are both sapphic. Coco is a lesbian, too. Scarlet and Nolan are gay. And of course, we have May Marigold, who is canonically a transgender woman, and Shion, a non-binary character. And more queer-coded characters.

You can argue that Coco, Nolan and Scarlet being gay is only mentioned on side content, like RWBY Chibi or the novels. Or that Shion is only part of Ice Queendom. But even if you don't want to count them because of that—even if the first three are probably gonna be mentioned next volume, all of them being in Vacuo and all—, the main show still includes five canon sapphic characters (2 of them, 2/4 of the protagonists) and a trans character.

And no “they are implied, not explicit, so homophobes can still watch the show” bullshit, like I've seen some people say. Blake and Yang having feelings for each other is not implied, it's a fact; even other characters, like Nora, say so: it's pretty explicit. Ilia, a girl, confesses to Blake, another girl, that she used to be in love with her. Saphron—who is based of fucking Sappho—and Terra are quite literally married, call each other “my wife” on-screen, and have a child together. And May quite literally, explicitely says she's trans on-screen as well.

Could the show have more MLM rep? Absolutely, and the writers themselves have said they want to include more. But criticizing RWBY for “lack of rep” is proof that you either don't watch the show or you're stupid, because RWBY has more canon queer representation than most mainstream shows.

It's been 3 years since my life changed forever. So I want to get out all of my feelings and what I went through during this time in 2020.

See, I had already known about "Destiel" for years, only hearing whispers about it vaguely, and most of the time, in a very negative light. But around October, I started seeing videos compiling their moments, and thanks to my recent exposure to fanfiction thanks to Good Omens, I decided to finally see what the talk was all about. and of course, you can guess what I thought. But I still didn't believe it would happen. I was curious, given there were only a few episodes left to air at that point. I told myself that I would vaguely pay attention in case anything did happen.

I remember watching it, late that night. All of the anxiety piling up on me thanks to election week, and I just...broke. I was in hysterics for characters I had only known for a few weeks, but it wasn't a complete failure to me. At the time, I was so confident that it wasn't the end, that the next 2 episodes would see Dean and Sam figuring out a way to rescue Castiel. I had never believed in something so thoroughly then I did during that time. It was all still going to be ok.

And...it wasn't. those 2 weeks went by and we were left with nothing. Barely even a name mentioned, no discussion of the confession, no conclusive answer from Dean. And that...I didn't know how to properly describe what I was feeling then. I mean, why was I getting so upset over characters that, until a few weeks ago, I could barely care less about?

But I get it now. See, at the time I had, shall we say, an ignorant view of LGBTQ people and their struggles. I was the kind of person who heard of Korrasami going canon, and was just really confused. "why are people so crazy about this? They're just holding hands, what's the deal?" I had only ever known homophobia by this nebulous annoyance, and classified it under the same umbrella as people in gaming communities I frequented being weirdly mean to me because I was a girl. Bigotry existed in my head, but I didn't understand the gravity of it. Even when I became a part of the Good Omens fandom, realizing I am asexual, this stringent belief still didn't register with me (partly because the community was extremely nice and welcoming in 2019). It was still this background radiation to me.

Not after November 5th. Literally EVERYWHERE I went: YouTube comment sections, Twitter posts, even in the discord servers I was in, there was a sometimes ambivalent, sometimes malicious, but consistent undercurrent of negativity about it. Every other day I saw comments ranging from "Castiel's confession wasn't romantic, he meant it as a friend/brother." to "Destiel shippers so so delusional for thinking that was romantic!". It wasn't in the background anymore, it was in my face, 24/7. And at first, I couldn't understand it. Why?

Because it was completely antithetical to everything I had known or believed about the world. I grew up a disney princess girl, believing that love was the most important thing known to humanity. I was always taught that to love another was the greatest gift of all. Expressing love, giving love to those who believe don't deserve it, shouldn't be instantly punished. This event, and the people denying it, it's all wrong. Castiel spoke his truth, was reprimanded for it, Dean was left not being able to even say anything back, and Misha along with the writer of the episode are telling us it was all romantic. Why couldn't Dean say anything at all? Why are people so vehemently denying it ever happened?

It was the bubble bursting. This perfect world, where outside of a few infrequent outliers, was ultimately kind to LGBTQ+ people, no longer existed. Suddenly, I understood. And I hated it. Every week was a constant series of microaggressions, of me having to debate with people who either didn't get it, or didn't want to, or both. It forced me to regularly ask the question: "Why is it such a crime for Dean to possibly like men and women? Why is it wrong in general to like both?"

And it was in asking that question to others that I slowly stopped directing the question unconsciously to myself. By fighting for the right to argue for Dean's bisexuality, I found my own. But it didn't feel like a happy occasion to me. At the time, It just made the entire situation all the more personal. It wasn't about other people suffering at the hands of people who are diametrically opposed to my core beliefs anymore. When bigots questioned Dean's right to be openly bisexual, it felt more and more like they were questioning MY right to be bi too. I shouldn't be allowed to want a complex, multilayered bi-character to whom I relate. I'm a delusional, mentally disabled, selfish person who should stop asking for more queer representation.

And that continued for months. Until slowly, I found other outlets. I found Hannibal, then Our Flag Means Death. I found media that told me it was okay. That being bisexual, being asexual was okay. Asking for more, better queer representation was not only fine but necessary. I shouldn't have to settle for scraps anymore.

Not only that, but the entire situation in a way gave me a new drive. It gave me a goal and a greater drive to my writing, and my activism than I had before. Before I was doing writing projects that were mostly rewrites, how to take a Movie, TV show, or video game story and make it better. In the wake of Nov. 5th, I began plotting out a rewrite of Supernatural, a Fix-It if you will. But it didn't feel like my previous projects, It felt like I was giving a happy ending to Dean and Cas. And I've now taken that attitude into all of my writing projects.

I became more active in my learning about LGBTQ history, in both films and in real life. I learned about Stonewall, The Hay's Code, and so much more in that time. I started going to pride events, and being more open about topics of sexuality and gender in college, embracing the LGBTQ community and not just passively observing/ignoring them.

Do I wish things could've gone differently? Absolutely yes. There were times during that half of 2021 when I felt so lost, where I thought proper good representation was impossible. I felt hopeless and struggled a lot mental health-wise. But I'm better now. I feel more self-assured and certain of who I am. I took the lessons I learned: There's nothing wrong with wanting or seeing Dean Winchester as a bisexual man.

And now, 3 years later, I look back on the entire ordeal, not as a fresh wound, but as a valuable scar. A reminder of how far I have come, and how far I still need to go. Misha and Bobo Barens fought tooth and nail to let Castiel be seen, and so must I.

So thanks Dean and Cas for the life lessons, and I hope one day you both do get to reunite and say all of the words you weren't allowed to say.

I don't know a whole lot about astrology, so I'm sorry in advance if this feels way off or overly simplistic! Also thank you costarastrology.com for the assist lol.

I think Korra would be an Aries, maybe born in late spring? She's competitive, endlessly energetic, stubborn, and honest--sometimes ruthlessly so. She's never afraid to express her opinions and tell it how it is. And we love her for that. She's also a natural leader (kind of par for the course for being the Avatar) and not only inspires loyalty in others but is also fiercely loyal herself--both to her friends and to her mission to restore and maintain balance in an ever-changing world. She can be hotheaded and impulsive, and carries herself with the kind of confidence and bravado that others in-universe read as arrogance, even though we the viewers see her struggle internally with the weight of the decisions she's forced to make.

I think Asami would be a Virgo, maybe with an early fall birthday. She's perceptive, analytical, and motivated by the desire to fix things and feel useful--which often leads to her putting the needs of others above her own. She's logical, a great problem-solver, patient, and strategic (I'm sure there's several examples of this in canon, but the one that keeps jumping to the front of my mind is when she absolutely destroys Bolin at Pai Sho lol.) She feels things very deeply, even if she doesn't always express it, and consistently makes herself available to help her friends any way she can. She's particular and has a very strong sense of how things should be, which is why I think she was so quick to act against her dad in season 1 when ordinarily I'd consider her the least impulsive member of the Krew.

They're both very intense people, but not always in the same way, which is why I feel like they balance one another out so nicely and bring out the best in each other :)

Does anyone have any good resources for learning about the Eastern/Chinese zodiac? I wanted to give them those signs as well so this wouldn't have such a heavy western bias, but I'm not very familiar with them and I didn't want to misspeak. From what I found online I was thinking maybe Dragon for Korra and Rooster for Asami? But I'm not sure.

sometimes i think about korrasami and i genuinely tear up a bit.

like when i look at fanart of them or when i reread the comics, and i see the fact that korra and asami are together and they're happy and they're just so in love and its canon?

just like, it's the fact that them being together is genuinely such a big milestone and i couldn't be happier for the legend of korra.
