Beer Pong
Request: Hiii!! I'm obsessed with your writing, and I wanted to request something for Matt. Could you please write something where they're at a party, and one of his exes is there, and the reader thinks they're kinda close, so bcs of all the alcohol she drank she gets overwhelmed and leaves the party, not wanting to cause a scene? And then Matt is worried cause he can't find her, but then he finds her outside, sitting on a sidewalk all sad? And he comforts her and stuff? Thank you so much!!
Tumblr media
"Why do we have to go?" Matt whines.
"It could be fun." Y/N insists as she finishes getting dressed for the party. "Come on. It's good to get out of the house every once in a while."
"Are you kidding me? There's people out there, babe." Matt groans.
"Social interaction is healthy." Y/N says.
"I have social interaction. I have friends, my parents, my brothers, Trevor." Matt lists, Y/N rolling her eyes at the mention of his dog.
"Hey. I love Trev, too, but he doesn't talk." Y/N says.
"Yes, he does. We just don't speak the same language." Matt says.
"Babe..." She gives him a look.
"I have you." Matt cutely grins, hoping it'll make her change her mind. "You're my favorite interaction of every day. We can stay home and talk all night long." He says, wrapping his arms around her waist and pulling her to stand between his legs.
"Hmm." Y/N hums, a soft smile on her face as she strokes his cheeks. "I love you, too, Matty." She gently pecks him on the lips. Matt's hope rises, feeling like his plan worked. "Now get dressed." She lightly pats his cheeks, walking away from him.
Matt groans, flopping down onto the bed.
"Why can't you just go with Chris and Nick? I can stay here?" Matt suggests.
"Cause I like you more." Y/N shrugs.
"I would hope so." Matt remarks making her smile.
"Please, honey. Just this one party. I really wanna go out tonight, have some outside fun. The moment you're overwhelmed, we'll leave. I promise." Y/N says.
"I'm overwhelmed." Matt states.
"Matt... c'mon, Nate will even be there. You can hang out with him. Or me or your brothers, or even some other people you know." Y/N says. "I can meet high school friends."
"I'm not getting out of this, am I?" Matt pouts.
"Probably not." Y/N shakes her head.
Matt huffs, giving her puppy dog eyes, but she doesn't give in.
"Fine." Matt groans, sitting up.
"Yay!" Y/N kisses him on the head. "Get dressed. You can't wear that."
"Rude." Matt frowns.
"Love you!" She calls out on her way to the bathroom.
---
The four get to the party, Chris going off to find Nate while Nick goes to get a drink. Matt tightly grabs onto Y/N's hand, intertwining their fingers, following her like a lost dog. Y/N guides him through the crowded house, going to the drinks.
She grabs herself a drink and holds one out to Matt.
"Nah." He shakes his head, grabbing a bottle of water. "DD." He tells her. Y/N nods, putting the second drink back and opening hers.
"Come on. See if there's anyone you wanna talk to." Y/N encourages, leading him through the house.
"Matt!" They're stopped by a female voice, both turning to the blonde girl. "Hey." She smiles.
"Oh, hey." Matt kindly smiles. "Haven't seen you in a while."
"Yeah." The girl laughs. "Good to see you again."
"You, too." Matt awkwardly smiles. Y/N nudges his arm with hers, getting his attention. "Uh, Y/N, this-- this is Emma. Emma, this is Y/N, my girlfriend."
"Oh, nice to meet you." Emma politely smiles.
"You, too." Y/N gives her a small smile.
"Emma!" Somebody yells.
"Oh. I'll see you guys later." Emma smiles, making her way to the person who called for her.
"So, Emma... like, uh... like ex-girlfriend Emma?" Y/N asks.
"Yeah." Matt nods. "See? Another reason we shouldn't go to parties. Exes."
"Matt." Y/N lightly rolls her eyes. "C'mon. Let's go find one of your brothers or Nate."
---
They've been at the party for a few hours and Y/N has had much more to drink, the girl needing Matt's help so she doesn't stumble too much.
Matt is playing a game of beer pong with Chris, the two playing against Nick and Nate. Chris does the drinking no matter what so Matt's still sober to drive.
"You're going down." Nick says.
"Yeah, right." Matt scoffs.
"In your dreams." Chris retorts.
"Okay, okay. Less trash talk, more beer ponging." Y/N says, giggling as she takes another sip of her drink.
Y/N cheers as the younger two triplets win, giving her boyfriend a sweet kiss to the lips. They pull away when the boys start gagging and pretending to vomit, Nick throwing a ping pong ball at them.
"Dude!" Matt exclaims.
"Rematch. Rematch." Nate challenges.
"Yes!" Nick agrees.
"No, I'm done. I will remain victorious." Chris states. "I gotta go take a shit, anyway."
"Dude!" Nick rolls his eyes.
"Chris!" Matt groans.
"TMI!" Y/N calls out, chugging some of her drink.
Chris waves them off as he leaves.
"Y/N?" Nick asks.
"No. I have terrible coordination sober, drunk is much worse." She says.
"Which is why it should be you." Nate says.
"Nice try." Matt tells them.
"Mind if I play?" The four turn to Emma as she walks up.
"Yes!" Nick yells. "Yes! Let's go!"
"All right." Nate rubs his hands together as he gets ready for the next game.
"Yeah, sure." Matt nods. She stands next to him and Matt looks over at Y/N who gives him a small smile.
Y/N watches Emma make small talk with Matt, the two occasionally laughing at something. She's thankful when Nick finally finishes setting the game up.
"Here. You go first." Matt gives the ball to Emma.
"Okay." She mumbles. She throws the ball, getting it into one of the cups, earning groans from Nick and Nate.
"All right!" Matt grins, high fiving her as she grins.
Y/N watches the game continue, her mood dampening with each laugh and high five her boyfriend and his ex share.
The game is soon tied, nobody able to successfully sink a ball yet. Y/N watches as Emma whispers tips to Matt in his ear, nobody able to hear over the music.
Matt throws the ball, it landing in a cup.
"Yes!" Matt high fives the girl.
Y/N weakly smiles and starts to walk off while Nick chugs the beer.
"Wha-- hey, hey." Matt stops his girlfriend by lightly grabbing onto her arm. "Where are you going?"
"I'm just gonna go get another drink." Y/N says, giving him a smile she hopes he buys.
"Okay." Matt nods after a moment, frowning. "Be careful." She nods, giving him another small smile before making her way off.
Y/N bypasses the drink table, heading straight for the front door. She shuts it behind her, stumbling towards the end of the walkway and sitting down on the sidewalk. She wraps her arms around her legs, taking a deep breath. Despite her best efforts, the tears start to roll down her cheeks, the cool breeze not helping her feel any better.
---
After a few more rounds of beer pong, Matt notices Y/N still hasn't returned. He tries not to worry too much, knowing she probably got caught up in some sort of conversation or dancing to the music that blasts through the house.
After the game ends, Matt calls it quits, starting to search for his girlfriend. He goes to the kitchen first, but finds no sign of her. He makes his way to the living room, going over to Chris when he sees him.
"Hey." Matt yells over the music, tugging on Chris' arm, getting the younger's attention. "Have you seen Y/N?"
"No." Chris shakes his head.
Matt sighs, going to look around. He asks some people if they've seen her, always receiving a no. His anxiety continues to rise the longer he fails to find her, becoming afraid something happened to her. After checking everywhere upstairs and downstairs, he goes to the last resort, going outside.
Matt shuts the door behind him, breathing in the fresh air that doesn't smell like weed or alcohol. He glances over at a couple making out on the porch bench and grimaces a little.
Matt looks around, spotting the familiar figure sitting on the sidewalk. He jogs down the walkway and over to her.
"Hey." Matt greets.
Y/N winces at his voice, trying to subtly wipe her cheeks.
"Baby, you had me worried for a second. Are you okay?" Matt asks, touching her arm. He frowns at her cool skin and quickly sheds his jacket, wrapping it around her shoulders. "Sweetheart, you okay?"
"I'm fine." Y/N mumbles, sniffing.
Matt frowns as he sits next to her, observing her wet cheeks. Her mascara is still intact since she chose waterproof.
"Why are you crying?" Matt asks, gently wiping the tears off her cheeks.
"I'm not." She insists.
"Okay, why were you crying?" Matt asks.
"I wasn't." She mumbles.
"Y/N/N..." Matt gives her a look.
Y/N glances at him and sighs.
"Go ask Emma." She mumbles, looking down.
"What?" Matt's face scrunches up in confusion.
"You two seem pretty close. Wouldn't wanna get in the middle of that." Y/N huffs, crossing her arms over her chest, partly out of annoyance and partly to help with the cold.
"Clo-- Emma? Baby, it-- none of that meant anything." Matt says, tucking some hair behind her ear. "It was just beer pong."
"Yeah, but you-- you were high fiving her and she was whispering to you." Y/N sniffles. "You were having fun."
"I have a lot more fun with you." Matt says, rubbing her back. Y/N looks at him.
"Really?" She asks.
"Yes." He nods. "I only want you, sweetheart. She's in the past. I don't like her like that anymore. I love you and only you." Matt promises. "No more beer pong or any other games with exes we run into at parties, I pinky promise." He holds his pinky out.
Y/N weakly smiles, sniffling, and she links her pinky with his.
"Pinky promise." She mumbles, the two kissing their thumbs.
"I told you we shouldn't have come to this party." Matt comments.
"Matty." Y/N whines, giving him a look.
"All right, all right. Too soon." Matt raises his hand in surrender. "Maybe tomorrow." Y/N gives him a look. "Or never." He places a gentle kiss to her lips. "Can we go home now?"
Y/N immediately nods, giving him another kiss.
"Thank God." Matt lets out a large sigh of relief. "Let's get you in the car then I'll go get Chris and Nick. Nate will probably come too."
"And we can cuddle all night? Ooh, and ice cream?" Y/N asks as he helps her to her feet, wrapping an arm around her waist.
"Yep. Whatever you want." Matt promises, knowing she'll probably fall asleep before they even get home.

( DRUNK / SOBER. ) — ★ N. LONGBOTTOM
Tumblr media
author's note ✶ based off this request — ❝ could you write a first kiss / confession scenario w neville? thank you <33 ❞ but i kinda left out the kiss part . . . whoopsie !!! also (red) dividers by @ rookthornesartistry
synopsis ₊˚ෆ drunk words r sober thoughts . . . or : you get drunk as all fuck and accidentally confess to neville. depictions of ( underage ) drinking. wc — 926
Tumblr media
YOU DIDN'T KNOW when the gryffindor common room started spinning. maybe it was one, two, three firewhiskies in.. or four... or five... but its not important. what's important right now is getting another drink.
it feels like fire's running through your veins and you want more. you start heading towards the corner of a room, where the weasley twins had set up a cooler and had bottles upon bottles of vodka, beer, and your current favorite — firewhiskey.
right as your hand reaches towards the cooler for a lukewarm drink, a freckled hand slaps it away. you turn, almost tripping over yourself, to see ginny, standing arms crossed.
"how many have you had?" she asks, staring at you.
"not mannnyyyy," you slur, putting your arm around her shoulder. "probably maybe like two? or like five, i can't remember," you giggle.
she rolls her eyes and starts walking you towards the stairs, muttering.
"where're we going?" you ask, stumbling over your shoes as she hauls you upstairs.
"boys dorm." you turn to face her and raise your eyebrows.
"ooooooohhhhh~" you giggle, putting a hand on the wall to steady yourself before taking another step up.
"not ooh. you're staying with neville before you drink yourself silly."
you pout and nearly trip over the top stair.
"i dont wannaa," you whine, trying to go back downstairs. her grip on your arm is firm, and she shakes her head.
"oh, but you have to." as the two of you make it to the landing, she leads you to a stop a few doors down. she raps her knuckles against the door. "open up. 've got a delivery for you," she laughs, looking at you. you're looking around the hallway, wondering why you've never been up there before. the plus red carpet, the gold accents everywhere, the photos hung on the walls of gryffindors past.
neville opens the door. "oh! hi ginny. hi y/n," he says, a small smile on his face. he looks at you swiveling your head around, eyes wide and lips slightly parted. ginny rolls her eyes and nudges you.
you jump and turn to smile at neville. "heyyy nevvv," you grin. he cocks his eyebrow at ginny.
"they're drunk," she explains, jokingly glaring at you. "they had like, six firewhiskies." neville's eyebrows fly up into his hairline and you playfully smack ginny's arm.
"not siixxx. only five.. i think," you correct, swaying on your feet. ginny rolls her eyes and pushes you into the dorm room.
"don't let them do anything stupid," she tells neville before pulling the door shut and leaving you alone with neville.
the second the door shuts, you turn, run full speed and flop onto neville's bed.
"has your bed allllways been this cozy," you mumble into the comforter.
neville laughs quietly. "i guess so." he sits down next to you, on the edge of the bed, watching as you spread out like a starfish on his bed. "five firewhiskies, really?" he asks.
you roll over and giggle up at the ceiling. "yeahhhh..." you hiccup. "wanna know a secret?" you turn to him, eyes wide.
he shrugs. "sure, y/n." he thought for a second before adding, "as — as long as you won't regret it when you're sober."
you smack his leg. "i wooonn'ttttt," you slur out. "it'll be like, totally fine. i won't regret it. probably. maybe. no."
he chuckles and awkwardly moves your hand off his thigh. "what is it?"
"did you know....." you hiccup again. "i've had like... a maaajjjjoooorrrr crush on you since fourth year?" you have a wide grin on your face.
neville looks taken aback, a small blush spreading across his face. "w-what?" he asks.
"yeahhh," you giggle. "like, i looove your hair, and you're soooo nice to like, everyone!!! and you're funny, and even though people think you're kind of a loser—" you lower your voice to a giggly, drunken whisper. "—you're a reaaaallllllyyyy cute loser." you burst into giggles, kicking your feet in the air. "like, reallllllyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy cute."
he blinks at you. "i—wha— you— me—" he sighs and takes a deep breath, a blush on his face. "you're drunk..." he takes another deep breath and softly pats your shoulder. "you're drunk," he repeats firmly. it sounds as if he's trying to convince himself.
you shake your head, still giggling. "yeah but like... whats that thing... the thingy that people alllllllways say??" you sit up like a rocket. "drunk words are like, sober thoughts." you nod solemly at him. "yeah... yeah. yeah." you grin at him and yawn.
he stares at you, looking slightly sad but still with the blush on his face. "you should get some sleep." he gets up from the bed and goes through a door on the other side of the room. he comes back holding a small paper cup filled with water. "drink it. it'll— uh, it'll make you feel better."
you take it and try to chug it down like a shot, causing the water to spill all over your front. you frown. he chuckles softly and takes the cup from you. he goes back to the bathroom and refills it before casting a drying spell on you.
he helps you take off your shoes and carefully wraps his duvet around you. "goodnight," he whispers, dimming the lights in the dorm.
you're out like a light the second your head hits the pillow. he gently rubs your side, watching your chest rise and fall.
drunk words are sober thoughts, he reminded himself, smiling at your sleeping form. he hopes its true.

The Wingman Wayne saga continues! It looks like there will be 8 parts in total at this point so we’re about halfway there :) | Read from the beginning | or on ao3
Robin knows she did the right thing. Of course she did the right thing. But the thing is, sometimes it fucking sucks to do the right thing. And this is clearly one of those times.
As soon as the phone is back on the hook, she feels tears stinging behind her eyes, and she decides she might as well throw herself a good ol' pity party. It's not like she has anything better to do tonight anyway, and it'll probably help her get over her stupid feelings soon enough. No doubt she'll feel better in the morning.
So she tells her mom she's gonna go to bed early and crawls under the covers with Polly, a pile of chocolate bars and a truckload of tissues. It doesn't help as well as she'd hoped, though; she still feels miserable when she gets out of bed the next day. And the next one. And the day after that. And it's fucking ridiculous, because she only spent a couple of hours with Nancy, they've only been on one date, so she can hardly be in love with the girl already and she needs to get the fuck over whatever this is.
And the worst part is that she can't even talk about it with Steve, the one person she can always rely on when she needs to pour her heart out. So she has all these feelings just building up inside of her with nowhere to go and she has no idea what to do with them – and that's how she eventually ends up at the trailer park.
Robin has to admit she wasn't too keen on Eddie at first, afraid that he was only playing with Steve's feelings because he had so blatantly friendzoned him while Steve was already way further gone for him that he admitted even to Robin – but her suspicion had disappeared soon enough, when she saw how Eddie looked at Steve and how he made up for his earlier mistakes (which mainly involved completely disgusting streams of compliments and affection that were an equal amount of gross and cute). So Eddie rapidly grew on her, and even though she has never shown up at the trailer park unannounced before, she knows that they've become good enough friends by now that it won't be weird.
He's outside when she arrives, his hands buried deep in the bumper of his van and a cigarette dangling from the corner of his mouth, and he greets her with an enthusiastic 'Buckley!' when he sees her arrive, wiping his hands on an old cloth as she gives him a mock-salute.
'And whatever brings you to my humble abode, may I inquire?' he says, followed by, 'Steve's not here.'
'Yeah, I know,' she answers; if she hadn't known for a fact that Steve would be at Family Video all day, she wouldn't have come here in the first place.
Eddie gasps and clutches at his heart. 'Did you come here for me?!' he exclaims in a high-pitched voice.
'Yeah I did, weirdo.'
'Did I finally officially win over my boyfriend's soulmate?'
'Well, if you keep recognizing my soulmate-status you might,' Robin tells him with a laugh.
Eddie tosses the butt of his cigarette in the pale yellow grass and Robin wants to say something about littering, but one look around the trailer park is enough to remind her that one cigarette butt is not the biggest litter problem in this place and she doesn't wanna come across as looking down on him and the place he lives in, so she swallows her comment and instead follows him towards the porch, where they flop down on the old plastic chairs that kinda look like they're falling apart.
'So...' Robin starts, debating with herself how she should start. 'Remember how your uncle set me up with that girl?'
Eddie goes to sit cross-legged and it looks kind of uncomfortable, the way he has to fold himself up like a human pretzel in his chair. 'Oooh, it's gonna be that kind of conversation!' he exclaims with a mischievous glimmer in his eyes. He fumbles around in his pockets to light up a new cigarette. Robin wrinkles her nose at the bad habit, but doesn't say anything about it. She's done that often enough already and Eddie always turns himself into a goddamn human chimney for the rest of the time they spend together when she does, just to spite her.
'Full disclosure, Steve already told me all about it,' he says to Robin. 'That she turned out to be Steve's ex and that you're not seeing her anymore.'
'Yeah...' Robin kinda wishes there was a non-gross version of smoking, because it actually seems pretty appealing to have something to do with her hands and her mouth while she's stalling her reply and it's clear that Eddie isn't exactly the kind of host who'd offer her a cup of tea.
'Lemme guess,' Eddie says, 'You liked her more than you wanted Steve to know?'
She sighs. 'You can't tell Steve about it,' she blurts out.
''Course not.' He makes a movement like he's zipping up his mouth. 'He already had a feeling about it, though. Said you were acting weird about the whole thing.' He shrugs. 'You could just talk to him about it, you know. He said he wouldn't mind.'
'Eddie, c'mon, you know Steve!' she exclaims. 'Of course he's gonna say he won't mind, being all noble and shit about it! But I can't break the bro code like that, that'd make me a terrible person! I can't do that to him! But I've been feeling completely miserable all week and if I don't get over it soon, he's gonna catch on, and I don't want that to happen because then he will be miserable too, and that would be super unfair, because he can't help it! So I just have to, like, wallow in it for a little bit, talk about it with someone who is not Steve, and then I'll be ready to move on and Steve's feelings will be spared!'
Eddie takes his time to release the smoke from his lungs, his head slightly tilted.
'Sooo...' He lazily drags out the word. 'I think we still have some ice cream in the fridge. Want me to get it for you and spend the next couple hours lamenting to me about how perfect your date was while I hold your hand?'
'Um, I have no idea if you meant that in a sarcastic way, but yes, I think I'd like that,' Robin answers.
Eddie smiles and gets up from his chair.
'No sarcasm here. If it'll help you and spare Steve's feelings, I'm happy to help. Seriously.'

Ahsoka Series, But Kaeden Is There, And She's Super Cryptic This Time
Spoilers for Ahsoka Episode 5
Hera, seeing Kaeden chilling in the middle of a weird rock formation chilling on her phone with the space birb Sabine drew on her armor once: What happened? What's going on? Where's Ahsoka? And where's Sabine?!
Kaeden, not even looking up: Jedi Force bullshit stuff happened, it'll all make sense in a bit.
Hera: Do you... Know what happened?
Kaeden: yeah but I'd rather explain it once and I don't know all the details.
Jacen: can I pet the bird?
...
Jacen: I hear someone fighting in the ocean! Maybe Ahsoka's out there!
Kaeden, still chilling: damn, sounds like a pretty intense therapy session.
Jacen: ???
...
*Hera ordering extra searches once Jacen tells her the stuff*
Carlson: what?
Kaeden: Jacen's a little Jedi, his dad was a Jedi too, just go with it.
...
*Ahsoka wakes up and sees Kaeden reading a book with two piles of books next to her*
Ahsoka, sighing: how many books have you read?
Kaeden: Four.
Ahsoka, flopping back down onto her bed: a whole twenty-four hours and I'm still exhausted.
Kaeden, smirking: Guess that's what you get when you avoid therapy or any kind of emotional healing for twenty something years.
Ahsoka: oh shut up
*then they kiss cause they love each other*
...
*Kaeden, explaining the situation*
Kaeden: okay, while Ahsoka was off getting some therapy and emotional healing slammed into her by the Force itself, Baylan manipulated Sabien into giving him the map and they got the coordinates and they took Sabine with them. I think she is coming back with a Jedi girlfriend.
Jacen, very excited: I get a new aunt?!
Kaeden: Yes, I like your attitude about this.
...
*Shin sees Sabine's sketch book open*
Shin: Why are you drawing me so much?
Sabine: 😳
...
*Ahsoka the white happens*
Kaeden: damn, you look good~😏
Ahsoka: not in front of Jacen, Kae😉
...
Carlson to New Republic people, reading from notes Kaeden gave him: so they are going to ride the purgil and find out what the Imperial remnants are up to out there, and Kaeden Larte says "Fuck the whole Senate except for Organa and kinda Mon Mothma but not entirely, get a better hold on your senate, the Empire isn't dead idiots"
NR Fleet: ...
*Ahsoka goes out to talk with the purgil*
Kaeden, to Morai: told you it'd be the whales, you owe me fifty credits
Morai: *annoyed divine birb sounds*
Bonus, Omega(from bad batch) x Miara Larte!:
Miara: I haven't heard from Kaeden in a while, you think she's okay?
Omega, doing some space magic practice: Probably? I can check real quick.
*does space magic*
Omega: Mia honey, your sister's in a purgil.
Miara, sighing: do we gotta get involved?
Omega: maybe? I kinda wanna ride a space whale.
Miara: alright let's go, I was getting a little bored anyway.
*Omega and Miara suit up in Mandalorian armor and call up a space whale with nightsister magic to take them to where the action is*
That's it. I enjoy a good cryptic slightly chaotic Kaeden, being married to Ahsoka comes with that.
Also Nightsister Omega is one of my favorite things so I shoved it in here.
Be back Wednesday for part 4!

hmmmmmm so. question,
I'm still 50/50 on whether or not I should commit to an rp blog for Star, just cause previous history and burning out or not getting much engagement or what have you.
I already got a url on hold in case I decide Yes, but ehhhh I'm a bit particular with tumblr roleplay admittedly. For instance, I really do NOT like roleplaying outside the established fandom of my muse, and I don't really do fandomless either so I can come off as picky, probably.
It'll likely be separate from all this stuff and the roleplay server, just kind of a sandbox, I suppose, but??? Would there be interest for that in terms of like. Actually interacting/engaging, for those of you who may happens to have CotL roleplay blogs of your own?
I don't wanna go to too much effort getting things set up and have it kinda flop, so I'm still like "eehhhh???"

as someone who was supposed to be going to leeds festival, seeing everyone vent their frustrations made me wanna join in.
they'd been on the lineup for leeds fest since early december last year. they've hardly touched the uk since eurovision, which i partially understand because since brexit, it's expensive and tedious for artists to bring instruments etc to the uk from europe; but as someone who has adored them loyally since eurovision, who was supposed to see them in february, the leeds cancellation fucking broke my heart. leeds fest is essentially down the road for me because i live in the north, whereas next year i have to travel down to london. i'm generally someone who suppresses their emotion and barely cries, but sobbed for an hour after the announcement.
the emotional stuff is now on top of not knowing if i'll get the money back, another major headliner pulled out, meaning there's now no rock acts on the friday, but leeds fest are refusing to give refunds for those with day tickets despite the festival being materially different. i'm constantly stressing about whether the ticket will sell.
i do hope they learn from their mistakes and move away from the US management when they can, and hopefully find a manager who isn't one of their friends so it's easier to objectively stand up to him. if the next album panders to the US market, it'll be their flop era and they'll hopefully learn from that.
(also, people shouldn't worry about the london O2 gig being cancelled for not selling enough tickets. general admission is sold out and there's about 150-200 seats left at the back to sell in a venue that holds 20k, with nine months before the gig. i just don't want uk fans to panic even more.)
i would like to highlight the last bit first, because like you said, i don't want uk fans panicking over o2 arena either. it's good to know that's not a worry people should have. thank you for that
i had no idea they had been confirmed for that long (i don't pay attention to their dates and specially not festivals if it's to a place i can't go sksnsj), so pulling out just two weeks before feels so much worse. also i'm so sorry about the whole festival thing, with the refusal to refund. i hope you do get to sell your ticket (if that's what you're trying to do, as i understand)
yeah, i have little to no hope that the new album will be good. i'm sure there will be some songs i like, because vic, i think, said in one interview that there would also be songs they wrote by themselves, prior to LA, so if that stays true, those are the only songs i'm looking forward to. but a couple of good songs doesn't make the whole album good, so that's probably gonna be my mindset going into it. let's hope my expectations are so low that they actually manage to blow me away lmao
also i haven't talked at all about it but that new song they played at circo massimo.... most of the song is good, i like the beginning of it, but there are some parts of it that just don't flow well imo (like when he sings "i don't give a fuck", there's just something off about that line. maybe the studio version will be better, idk). i honestly thought it was a genius idea to play a brand new song at circo massimo, but i was kinda disappointed it was yet another song in english. that's, what, the 4th one so far for this new era (not counting gasoline, because it will most likely not be in the album). i don't have an actual problem with their songs in english, i like iwbys and for you love, and i adore mammamia and touch me, but they've always had more songs in italian than in english on their albums (ibdv is a close 7 to 5, but still, there are more italian songs), and i'm starting to think it might the other way around this time and. i don't like it lmao

Started working on my book. Ya'll may actually like it if I finish it. I really wasn't feeling it like writing wise. But then I was like... This needs more drama why don't I just use how I'm feeling? I have a vague idea of where it's going. There are lots of scenes where I have the feel and look of everything so clear.
It is partially scifi I wanna say it'll give, jupiter ascending, blade runner, dune vibes? the other part is romance which I honestly didn't think I'd ever write about aside from fanfiction... But this just came to me one day and my imagination took over. Haven't gotten it out of my head and I started thinking about how I genuinely think this is a good story. So yesterday I actually started.
I also thought about how much people have enjoyed my writing over the years and even the award online I won for something I didn't even enter. Now this story is more gear towards a script that's fair. So I'm going to really have to find ways of putting you into what I'm seeing in my head. Which let's be honest dialogue and fight scenes have always been my stronger traits I think.
I'll hire an editor at some point. Honestly it'll probably be a self publish sort of deal but I'm doing it because I believe in this story. And all the writers out here have given me inspiration to actually do it as well. Again I think other people may enjoy one of the many stories I cook up in my head. My goal will be to as much as possible put you in the moment. And almost see what I am seeing. Feel what the characters feel. Because that is one of the biggest aspects of it. And honestly every story is kinda like that.
This is spaced out real weird cause tumblr mobile does not cooperate with my keyboard.
So now that I've made this post I guess I'm comitted eh? It may very well be a flop. But I'll be glad to have you all here to witness it. If I've put you in the moment and you just don't like the stories or the characters I will still feel like I've done my job.

The Mammoth Meatball is driving me mad.
I was just chilling, making Lemonade when I found out about this shit and now after I aggressively researched it I give you what I found out, enjoy my rambling:
The Austrailian company behind this soft ball sized mostrosity is called Vow -which now I'm thinking about is the equivilant of a company dad joke- and they have 65 people who work for them and will have to answer to me when I ever get my hands on them. They. Grow. Meat. Which I will get back to, but not right the fuck now!
Vow made a Meatball recently from said lab grown meat. But with Mammoth DNA. Because all scientists choose to be maniacs and I respect that, but this is a company dedicated to making edible yummy meat in a lab. And not a single fucking soul even tasted it.
Tumblr media
No. They donated it. TO A MUSEUM - WHAT?! that will spoil. Are you gonna give them a new one each week? Is it frozen? THis raises so many questions--
And that isnt the most confusing or annoying part. nonononoNO
Tumblr media
They put a fork and a knife next to a stone plate on which is the Meatball! WHich is food! Served with Sauce! AnD Ya CaNT EAT IT???? What. in. the. flippity. flip. flop. fuck.
NOW I get that the myoglobin, aka the reason red meat tastes meaty, created from DNA of a mammoth combined with african elephant to fill in the gaps maybe- maybeee isn't safe to consume, but it is their goal... to make food? Without harming animals, which they did here!
They can do it! Even with safety approval! Vow did that! They made "cultured japanese quail dumplings" for a food tasting. It was their first pr project, this is the second. They replicated the birds meat with their magic powerpuff logic and it worked! But they can't get this approved? WHY!?
I wanna know how the fluffy elephant tastes like! Why are there utensils if you arent gonna use them?! Why do they talk about eating the damn thing when they are not??
Why did you make it into a big ass meatball
if ya can't eat it?
I WANT ANSWERS! because, i get it, it might hurt us bla bla bla YOU ALREADY MADE DUMPLINGS WE CAN EAAAT -which you dont (???) say much about on your own website?? But rather make me scouer the internet for a news article. im so angy. Also if they, I'm sure very nice people, donated it to a museum in Sweden it would at least be funny! And not confuse the last living fuck outa me.
A short intermission: Now to calm down let me tell you something rather cool about Vow: They are trying to make affordable food without killing the planet. They have found a far more sustainable alternative and are working on it to make it functional! Of course magic science meat sounds kinda scary and could be bad if done wrong, so it'll take some time, but still neat!
They also have a mysterious third thing on their website that is "coming soon" which is insane. Sadly it isn't a picture the Breath of the Wild inedible food. Just a blurry menu. I do wonder what it could be though and if they will disappoint me again. If no one gets to eat it what's the point. No one will ever know. Of course People have eaten mammoth, specifically in the 1900 when they found well preserved carcases of them frozen in the ice and then oviously hosted a dinner party to eat it. It's apparently: "Acceptable." Thanks. Very helpful. It is probably very chewy though, based on discriptions of elephant meat. Yet i find thousand year old frozen mammoth does probably taste hella different from lab grown Mr. Snuffleupagus.
Conclusion: This meatball thing is utterly ridiclious! Dont make food if you don't let me eat it. It's rude. I wanna eat the meatball so badly. It looks amazing and soft yet full of flavor and as a goblin I truly need to eat this dumb thing smart people made. I wanna see if i can eat it in one bite. >:( Also if you claim and I quote: "Could this prehistoric creature also become a beacon of hope - introducing the mammoth meatball" and don't let anyone eat it is practically a crime. But since I can't change this and simply have to wait for it to be approved for consumption and then inevidibly cry when it's too expensive for me I will leave you with another quote from the people who brought you "The Mammoth Meatball" and then forbade you from eating it:
"Our obsession is inventing meat products..."
Good day, creatures of the night

I know that I don't count bc I'm your partner, but could you talk about some ideas for your CoD projects for #WIPWednesday?
;0;!!! You absolutely count!!! This is probably gonna be really rambly and disjointed. Also kind of long, so I'm sticking most of it under a cut. CW for mentions/discussions of death and abuse.
(also there's technically still an hour left in WIP Wednesday, at least in my timezone, so @onlycodcanjudgeme)
Honestly I've been fixating on Call of Honor hardcore rn so most of the stuff I have today are related to that. I'm now genuinely considering writing a High Chaos AU (because I love my convoluted multiverses lol), though it'll probably be shorter than canon COH (unless I decide to REALLY run with it) and I probably won't start actual work on it until I'm much deeper into COH.
Betrayal, grief, and trauma are themes that are pretty central to COH, as are trust, healing, and the importance of love (not like the weird amatonormative "romance fixes everything" sense, but like...family. Friends. A support system. Like these people probably could've gone through what they did alone but having a support system of genuine relationships with other people, friendly or familial or romantic or otherwise, is REALLY important to a lot of their growth and healing.) I feel like a High Chaos AU would kind of turn that concept on its head, and also everything is Worse. So that'll be fun.
I feel like I'd want to make a High Chaos AU really different from canon, too, even in terms of the events of the COD timeline. I was kind of playing with the idea of a Double Agent!Yuri AU (inspired by @saint-vulgaris!), because the concept is really interesting to me and I wanted to explore how drastically it would change the events of MW2/3. It kind of struck me to combine the two ideas so that the story is both darker and sufficiently different from the jump? Like, I was toying with the idea of Yuri being the one to kill Soap...but Soap doesn't know. He doesn't realize what hits him, just that he's dying and, in this AU, he's alone. Price isn't there to save him or even try to comfort him. So on top of the trauma he has in canon COH (dying a horrifying, slow death where his loved one was powerless to help him and he was robbed/robbed himself of the chance to say goodbye), he's also dealing with the highly specific trauma of dying an utterly disorienting, horrifically lonely death. Idk I think it would be really interesting to explore how the differences in how he died would affect his psyche in Dishonored 'verse.
I do have more ideas for them and I kinda wanna get into them but I'll save those for another post bc I wanna talk about other AUs now!
I know I mentioned this on Twitter, but idk if I mentioned here: I kind of want to make the Incubus AU (so, both the fics Midnight Kiss and As You Wish) into comics. As much work as comics are, I think writing this AU into one (or two, rather) would satisfy both my itch to storycraft and my unending desire to make art. I still need to figure out what style I want to draw my comic in, and finish my outlines so I have a solid idea of setting. I'm also gonna be stretching my 3D legs and maybe dabbling in Blender to streamline my workflow. It's a pretty big project and I'm really excited to start it, I just kinda...don't know when to (and I'm lowkey anxious to because I'm terrified of everything I write flopping, lol.)
You and I talked about Apoptosis a little, but idk if I shared my thoughts on this either? Publicly, I mean? So I'll do it now. Apoptosis was originally going to focus almost entirely on Price and the police side of the investigation, which is really intimidating because like...I don't trust my ability to write a satisfying police procedural that balances realism with artistic liberty. And I also hate cops.
But now that I'm planning to have more focus on other characters too (specifically Soap, Ghost, and Roach, who I like to call the Apop 141), who are conducting their own street investigation, it feels more approachable to me now. That, and it feels a little bit more similar to JJBA: Diamond is Unbreakable, which is really funny because I'm like 90% sure that it was a huge but unconscious inspiration for Apoptosis. Though obviously Apoptosis lacks that aspect of small town slice of life (and horror), since it's set in a much larger city.
But uh moving on!
I've mentioned this before on my writing/fandom blog, but I'm kind of drawn to the idea of a Soap-betrays-Price friends to lovers to enemies AU, but with an almost Caesar and Brutus slant to it? Not in the sense of actual history, but in the legend extracted from that history. Like Soap idolizes Price, loves him so deeply, transcendentally, unhealthily, just this...codependent admiration that's tangled up in a LOT of trauma and crossed wires. And Price feels similarly, though in a more authoritative sense; he's the one who Soap looks up to, and therefore he's the one who Soap answers to, the one who leads Soap around, the one whose shadow Soap stands in. And no matter how much he tries, Soap can't live up to this perfect ideal of Price. And things worsen from there.
Price goes on this paranoid, bitter downward spiral, and like...maybe the start of it is Yuri sowing seeds of doubt in Soap, not out of maliciousness, but because this is the same path he and Makarov went down years ago and he wants to try to save Soap from that. And in the end, it culminates in Soap betraying Price, and like...neither of them are particularly good people, especially Price (because he's gone completely off the rails), but they could've been, and maybe in another timeline they could've been good together, too. And Price genuinely loves Soap, genuinely trusts him (or at least, wants to trust him; I think by this point he would've long started to suspect something was up with Soap, but still wanted to have his cake and eat it too, so he didn't react as harshly as he might've if it had been, like...Yuri or someone). And just...the betrayal, the righteous betrayal coming from a man who isn't very good himself, and doesn't want to do this, and wishes it could've been different, but feels like he has no other choice and that this is what must be done for the greater good...idk I'm just rambling pure fucking nonsense rn but like "et tu brute?" and all that shit, you know?
And as for Venator. I haven't had many more thoughts on that AU. Mainly because I'm still agonizing over what the fuck I want Soap's hair to look like.

Hard Pass P3 (Levi X Reader)
Tumblr media
Synopsis: Levi is forced out of his comfy dorm room and in a strange twist of events right into your arms at a college party.
Levi was relieved for the silence as he clicked away at his keyboard. Mike had gone to his only late class of the entire week. Which meant Levi could actually study in his room.
The scent of tea and the small aroma diffuser on his desk as well as the open window in front of him welcomed a nice calming smell that was normally masked by Mike's gym bags and sweaty clothes. Which reminded Levi of the laundry he would have to do soon.
He pressed his tea cup to his lips feeling a twinge of irritation as he was interrupted by two knocks on the door. He looked down at the time. 6:15. A little too early for Mike to be back complaining that he'd forgotten his keys.
Then it was probably one of his girls complaining that she'd left her shit in the room. If Levi had a dollar for the amount of times that had happened he could pay for a new roommate.
The next couple knocks were a bit louder. "Levi? It's Y/N.."
Y/N?!
His face practically exploded. He stood far too fast because just as quickly he was flopping over his stupid desk chair and hitting the floor with a hard thud. He gasped audibly tugging at his knee and gritting his teeth.
"Levi? Are you ok?" Came her voice again.
He pulled himself up with a huff and staggered over to the door. Unsurprisingly he had to limp. With a quick turn of the lock he yanked open the door right into his forehead. God fucking dammit.
He groaned in a mix of fury and disgust partially because he'd idiotically stood so close when opening the door and partially because he hated the stupid inanimate object.
"Oh my god! Are you ok?" Y/N gasped, squeezing herself inside and shutting the door behind her. "Let me see? Did you hit your eye?" She asked
Her fingers were so delicate as she brushed aside his hands. So close.. Her thumb traced the already appearing red spot on his forehead. Soo close.. She brushed his hair to the side cupping his cheeks to gently reposition his head towards the light. Close....
She breathed out a little chuckle. "It's probably gonna bruise."
Levi barely registered her words. Occupied with her beautiful eyes illuminating moonlight and the dim lights in his room. His lips parted ever so slightly. When her hands fell away he gulped and jerked his head back. Trying to find literally anything to take the edge off.
"I'll.. go find you an ice pack, ok?" Y/N began already heading for the door.
"K-knee.." Levi tried and mentally cursed himself.
"Huh?" She asked, turning back.
"M-my.. t-two please.."
Her smile was gentle, "Two ice packs. Got it." And with a little wave she was out the door. Her lingering touch still causing heat to pool in Levi's chest.
~~~~
"Aww sweetie, are you sure you're ok?"
He was not. Definitely not. One of her hands was on his uninjured knee and the other was brushing his hair away from the ice pack. He didn't even know if he'd breathed in the last 20 minutes. His brain echoing the word sweetie.
The two of you had been sat on his bed as he uncomfortably laid his head back on the wall. Trying and failing to not fixate on your touch. Every brush of your fingertips was downright intoxicating.
"You look kinda red. Do you wanna try seeing a doctor or something?"
"N-no.." It was barely audible but he knew she heard when she nodded.
If there was a hole nearby he would crawl into it and never come out. Though he also didn't wanna move as the fear of making this situation worse for himself stayed ever present.
"Let me see?" He partially removed the ice pack from his forehead, spine tingling over the way she sucked in a breath. "You should be more careful."
Levi didn't answer. Just squeezed his legs closer together and sighed. In all the time he'd been in this room he'd never hit himself in the face with the door. Just what kind of power did this girl have over him.
"I know because my little cousin has done stuff like this but you should put some cream on the bump so that it doesn't get redder and it'll go down faster."
Little cousin? That wasn't a fair comparison. Little kids do stupid things cause they're kids. Did she think about him that way? Uggghhhh.
He was yanked from his thoughts by her hand coming down to squeeze his. "Are you positive you're ok? Do you need anything else?"
"I-I'm fine.."
Just as Levi said that his attention was brought to the door. Mike had barely stepped into the room and he was already grinning like a fucking idiot.
"Well, hello." He greeted, stepping closer. "Levi, you didn't tell me you were inviting anyone over. Especially not a pretty girl."
Y/N's chuckle was nervous, "Hello, you must be Levi's roommate." She stuck her hand out which Mike immediately took placing one hand on top of their joined hands.
"And you must be Y/N." He said "I've heard so much about you."
His teasing was met with a glare that could slice concrete. If Levi had known Mike was gonna come straight back to the room he definitely would've gotten rid of Y/N sooner.
"Oh? Really?" Y/N turned to look at Levi behind her. "You told him about me?" It was a split second thing but Levi could've sworn her features softened.
"Oh, no I meant Hange." Mike replied
"Oh."
Oh? Was she disappointed? It sounded disappointed? Did she want Levi to talk about her?
"But at no point did Hange tell me you were this pretty. Neither did Levi honestly, I'm kinda disappointed."
Alright that's enough of that. Levi stood. Placing the ice packs on his bed.
"You should probably leave." He gritted his teeth at how harshly it came out.
Now Mike was letting go of Y/N's hand. "Oh wait! I came to get my phone. Hange said you had it."
Levi blinked. He'd almost forgotten about that. It had been sitting on his desk since yesterday. His knee was screeching in absolute horror as he staggered his way over to his desk.
"What the hell happened to you?" Mike asked, clearly trying to hold back a snicker.
"Aw, it was an accident. I scared him."
Levi returned with the phone shooting daggers into Mike who pretended not to notice.
"Thank you." She breathed a sigh of relief.
"Y-yeah.."
"Did you put your number into it?"
Levi's face perked up a little. "Yes."
"Ok, then I'll text you later." She assured, brushing her finger tips over his forehead once again. "Goodnight boys." And with those last words she took off.
"Faking an injury?! I didn't think you had it in you!" Mike celebrated as soon as she was gone.
"Dickhead." Levi scoffed.
"Hey, is that any way to talk to the best friend who just confirmed your biggest fear moot?" Mike plopped down on his bed with a playful huff.
Levi flopped down into his desk chair, staring up at the ceiling. "One you're definitely not my best friend especially after that shit. And two I'm not you I don't fake shit to get girls."
"That would totally be hurtful if it wasn't true." Mike shrugged "I meant the fact that she doesn't have a boyfriend."
Levi practically flipped himself out of his chair. "How do you assume that."
"Simple. Hange told me about her ex boyfriend. By the way it was probably that guy that took her from the library that day. And Hange says that a lot of guys find Y/N attractive. Because of this her ex got too overprotective and they broke up. But he had no reason to be because Y/N would always tell people she had a boyfriend or at least around Hange she did."
Levi stared at his barely drunk tea. The liquid probably cold after being left on the table so long. So she had dated that guy.. He had been so tall and pretty muscular looking, was that her type? She didn't seem like she was going to get back together with him.. but he was still around.
"All I'm saying is she seems loyal. You better snatch her up before someone else does or she gets back together with her ex."
His attention was drawn away by his phone softly buzzing on his table. He pressed the on button, swiping his pin and clicking the notification as it popped up.
Hey Levi, it's Y/N.
Listen ik you said you're ok but I bought you some cream just in case. I'll bring it to you tm ;)
His heart fluttered and ached remembering her touch and her kind words. If he didn't full blown know Mike was staring at him he would probably hug his phone.
~~~~
Too much time had passed and suddenly the whole school was on break. Levi had been dreading this. Not because he was a workaholic like Mike claimed but because he knew Hange was gonna drag him away and make him vacation.
And no form of vacation could possibly be more relaxing for him than curling up in bed with some books, doing some casual cleaning, and drinking tea with light music playing at all times. Mike was definitely going home during this time so it'd be the perfect way to spend his break.
But Hange's family owned a couple lodges and that meant another year of begging for Levi to come ski and freeze his fingers and toes off.
"Come on, Levi!"
"Absolutely not."
"Erwin!" Hange called to him where he sat on Levi's bed, scrolling through his phone.
"You knew he was going to say no." Erwin replied
"Which is why I brought you to help me make my case." Hange complained
"You clearly made an error in judgment then." Erwin retorted
Mike laughed from where he was laying on his own bed. "Might as well give it up Hange, Levi is just too stubborn about this. We all know he wants to be close to all my junk while I'm gone cause he'll miss me."
"I wouldn't hesitate to tell your stalker where you're going over break." Levi spat
"She'll figure it out anyway. She's a high class stalker. And I'm not her first." The room fell in uncomfortable silence but Mike just leaned back giving his full attention to his phone screen.
"That disturbing remark aside.." Erwin began shaking his head. "I'm going."
"And that's supposed to change my mind? How'd Hange force you into it?"
"It may stun you but I chose to go through with this all on my own. There are studies that claim it's good for the mind to get away from normality during breaks or away from your comfort zone to properly clear your mind. It'll also help you make less mistakes when classes resume."
Hange smiled, "Yes, that's exactly what I was thinking."
Levi rolled his eyes. "If I go you can't beg me next year." Hange's loud shrill screeching made Levi's heart drop out of his ass.
"Finally!!" Hange screamed in excitement as she wrapped her arms around Levi's neck.
"Get off already! You're such a pest!"
And that was how Levi ended up on a train for almost three long hours with Hange blabbering on about nothing and Erwin sat in the seat across from the two of them listening to podcasts while staring out the window of his own very sad music video.
And all of the crap Erwin had spewed about getting away being more relaxing proved to be completely from the ass as Levi shivered along wrapped in two scarves, a pair of gloves, his long green coat that fell around his ankles and a winter hat plopped over his ears.
"Walk faster Levi! Is that the best your little legs can do?!" Hange called, somehow racing her way up the slope with three bags. One that wasn't even hers
Levi grunted in irritation. Not only were they walking up a hill but it was covered in snow so deep that every step felt like he was falling.
"Do you need help?" Erwin asked, not waiting for Levi to respond as he hoisted the overnight bag off his shoulders.
Levi just huffed. "I swear Hange was made in a lab."
"As possible as that is, Hange was basically raised in the snow so this is the equivalent of dust for her." Erwin replied as the two of them trudged along.
"Her parents own multiple ski lodges why the hell did we go to the one up a fucking hill."
"The other closest one was more than 6 hours away. Did you really wanna be stuck on a train with Hange for more than 6 hours?"
Levi just groaned as they finally walked through the surprisingly big doors of the huge ski lodge. Hange raced over to the front desk as Erwin slipped onto the lobby couch, followed by Levi who was still kicking snow off his boots and his second bag.
"What's in that bag?" Erwin questioned, nodding to the luggage Levi had yanked over his lap.
He exhaled loudly giving the bag a couple soft pats. "Clothes, extra boots, extra gloves, two bottles of cleaner and a small box of tea as well as some light reading material."
"When are you gonna have time to read? We're going to be skiing most of the time we're here."
"If you think I'm getting on a ski lift you have less working brain cells than Hange."
Erwin smirked with a roll of his eyes, "Alrighty then, what's in this bag."
"All of the shit that didn't fit in this bag, toothpaste, toothbrush, cologne, extra pairs of underwear-"
"Woah, Levi you can't just talk about your underwear in a public space." Erwin chuckled at his own joke.
Levi rolled his eyes, "It's bad for your health to hang around Mike as often as you do."
"How is it you're not dead yet then?" Erwin retorted
Hange had been chatting up the receptionist for almost 15 minutes, bouncing up and down in front of the desk and indulging him in the stories of their travel up here. The man just gave her a sheepish grin and honestly Levi felt a little bad for the man but a little less when he thought about how it wasn't his problem anymore.
Moblit.. his name tag read. Somehow Hange's mannerism seemed more crazed with him if that was even possible.
"Yeah.. it has been so long." He heard the man say. You got.. taller..
"We're never getting out of this lobby are we?" Erwin sighed as the two continued to chatter on. Levi and Erwin stared as Hange continued on about her car with a surprising amount of engagement from the other party. "You know they kind of remind me of you and-"
"Hey, Hange!" Erwin cut himself off as a brown haired girl that Levi instantly recognized hopped down each step, a bald boy following her. And Levi believed he remembered them from Y/N's stories as Connie and Sasha who he remembered from the party.
"Hange, what're you doing here?" He asked as the brown haired girl gave her a hug.
"My family owns the lodge so I brought Erwin and Levi for the break!" Hange said, pulling Connie into side hug that he immediately reciprocated.
"Oh god! Why didn't you tell me your plans for break? Jean would've driven all of us up here and you wouldn't have had to waste gas."
Hange just shook her head. "It's quite alright I was already out of gas so we just took the train up here."
"You didn't put gas in your car again?" Connie asked
"Wait, if you guys came then does that mean Y/N is here?" Hange asked completely dodging Connie's question.
At her name Levi bounced out of his seat. Almost launching himself into the spot next to Erwin. Pulling his hat over his eyes and sliding his back as far into the chair as he could.
"What's up with you?" Erwin questioned
"I embarrassed myself last time I was with Y/N.."
"What? Didn't she buy you cream like a month ago?"
"Y-yeah." Levi shimmied his feet together as he slid further down in his seat.
Erwin's chuckle next to him made him grimace. "I know you don't really get it Levi. But uh, making an ass out of yourself in front of your crush is the first real hurdle to knowing you've got it bad."
"Shut up.."
"It could've been worse.. You could've accidentally injured her. Or got caught by the loud mouth in your class while writing her first name and your last name in a notebook."
"Sounds like a personal story.." Levi replied, inching the hat off his eyes to look up at Erwin.
Erwin scoffed, "Point is it happens." He said with a roll of his eyes.
Levi let out a little snicker that instantly got caught in his throat. It had never occurred to him that he'd actually paid attention to the romance movies he'd seen a hundred times with his mother. But now that Y/N was walking down the stairs it was like a scene from all of those movies combined.
Her smile just as warm as always. Turtleneck sweater hugging her features along with dark blue jeans and brown boots. Each step felt slower than the last as if everything in this particular room had been put on the slowest speed imaginable.
The butterflies in his stomach swarmed like they were all chasing after one specific thing. Everytime she appeared somehow it was different.
"We're still going skiing today right?" Connie questioned as Y/N stopped on the last stair.
"If Jean's up to it sure." She replied, her cheeks flushed like she'd just walked in from outside.
"Well this is gonna be a fun weekend." Erwin said but Levi didn't even register his words. His heart stammering in his chest. "Go make a fool out of yourself." Erwin nudged
"Hey Jean! Come on!" Connie said
"Yeah, Jean I'm hungry!" Called Sasha
Levi's heart stopped, his chest crumbling in on itself. The same guy from before.. just as soon a loud crash sounded and everyone turned all at once.
"Oh god are you ok?!" Y/N was the first person by Hange's side followed by Moblit from behind the counter.
Hange let out a laugh, wincing as she pulled herself up with Moblit and Y'N's help.
"I'll be ok. Just took a little spill." She continued to laugh.
Erwin was soon standing by her side. "Are you sure, you're alright? Your face is super red.."
A momentary lapse in Hange's facial features made Erwin step back a little. "Shut up Erwin." She huffed
"You fell on your side. You should rest a little bit." Moblit said, coming closer. "Just.. in case."
"Ok.." Hange replied
Y/N seemed to relax at this information. Her gaze immediately falling on Levi surprisingly. He really hoped he didn't outwardly wince.
"Hi, Levi." She spoke plainly giving Erwin a small greeting as well before her, Connie, Sasha, and Jean were leaving the lobby.
Hange and Erwin unsurprisingly crowded into Levi's room about five minutes after the whole ordeal. But Levi couldn't even bring himself to wipe one thing down like he'd wanted to. He just laid still on the bed, eyes planted to the ceiling.
Surprisingly Hange had also stayed silent. Her eyes shut where she laid next to Levi.
"I can't believe you broke the handle on my luggage Hange." Erwin called still sat on the floor holding his luggage in one hand and the handle in the other. Pressing the broken part of the handle to his bag as if it'd be that simple to fix.
"Now what am I supposed to do?"
"It broke my fall Erwin. Be grateful."
"For what exactly?"
"I don't know!"
Levi blinked, his gaze falling on Hange for the first time since she took that spill in the lobby. Her hands were crossed over her stomach, thumbs rubbing the spot where she fell.
"Are you alright or not?" Levi questioned
"I'm fine."
"Ok, I know why Levi's upset but why're you?" Erwin chimed up
"What's Levi upset about?"
"What else? Y/N."
"Uggggghhh Levvviiiii why don't you just ask her out already?" Hange said
Levi sat up on the bed pulling his feet into his chest. Shoes long gone, pushed up against the wall as soon as they'd walked into the room.
"I'm not talking about this shit anymore this week."
"Levi, if we're staying here all of this week and next then chances are she's also staying here all week and next. Which means somewhere in here is a perfect opportunity to-"
"Get in her bed." Hange interrupted
"Or something less crass." Erwin suggested "You did pack condoms in your emergency undies bag right?"
"Did you pack a spare handle in yours?"
Hange's obnoxious laughter was almost loud enough to muffle the low knocks on the door. Her irritating jabs to Levi's shoulder quickly halting when Levi grabbed her fingers.
"Who is it?" Erwin asked, one hand on the door.
"It's Y/N.."
Now Hange stopped laughing. Erwin shrugged as he looked back at both of them before pulling the door open.
"Hey, here." Y/N sounded filled with fatigue as she handed over a small bottle to Erwin.
"Oh! Thank you! Where'd you get this?" Erwin smiled with delight immediately flopping back down next to his bag.
"Jean carries around extra strength glue because Connie always manages to break something fragile." Y/N replied "I doubt it'll work but maybe it'll help a little?"
Erwin nodded happily as Y/N turned to look at Hange. Her hands balled up and her fingers fidgeting where she was pulling at them.
"How's your rib Hange?"
"It's ok now, thanks for asking."
Y/N nodded and at this moment everyone in the room was looking at Levi who automatically felt extremely naked.
"Levi um.. can I talk to you? In the hall?"
Levi didn't know if he had nodded in his head or in real life but he was swiftly moving across the room. Passing Y/N where she stood and then holding the door open as she walked out just behind him. The door shut behind the two of them and if Levi felt naked before the feeling out here was somehow worse.
"What happened?"
Levi could hear the slightly muffled footsteps on the other side of the door and even a whispered Hange as Y/N spoke. His hands felt both too dry and wet all at once as he looked into her mildly menacing gaze.
"Wh- where wh-when.."
"You barely said anything to me after I brought the cream for your forehead. What happened? Did I do something wrong?"
Oh god how can she possibly assume that? Levi felt his stomach clench. He had never had it easy with text, which was why he pretty much always called everyone.
"I-I didn't mean.. it um.." He shuffled his feet a bit now remembering that he still had no shoes on.
Y/N sighed. "I wanna be your friend Levi. Please tell me you want that too."
With a deep breath he replied, "Call me."
"When?"
"Anytime.. I'm a bad t-texter.."
When her facial features softened Levi felt his shoulders finally sag for the first time since he'd heard her name in the lobby. "Ok.. oh ok, that's all it was? I thought I did something wrong. I'm glad we talked."
And Levi was barely registering her hands wrapping around his shoulders. Her body pressing oh so comfortably close to his. Hand sliding over his back, scent overwhelming his nose. And then just as soon it was all being taken away.
"I'll call you, ok?"
"Ok.." Levi's hand was still waving long after she'd already disappeared out of plain view.
"Oh god you're her friend!" Hange laughed the door suddenly yanked open behind Levi.
"It's as cute as it is sad." Erwin clicked his teeth.
"Tch, shut up." Levi stomped back into the room.
"Levi, you're in the friendzone!" Hange huffed as Erwin shut the door. "And if you don't get out of it. You're gonna be the short shoulder to cry on when some big dude with an invalid drivers license, a shit ton of tattoos and a porn addiction breaks her heart."
"That's oddly specific.." Erwin retorts
"All of you keep assuming I wanna be her boyfriend. I don't!"
Erwin rolled his eyes, "That tall guy that she was with actually. I think he'll be the guy who has her running to Levi's shoulder."
"Oh you mean Jean?" Hange nods "But they broke up a while ago."
"Then why is she still hanging out with him?"
"He's Sasha and Connie's best friend. So they've all known each other a while. They're a set, don't separate type deal."
"Then it's only logical that Y/N will marry Jean someday. You know if they all stay so close."
"Yup, definitely."
"You can both eat shit."

Day one
Levi strained awake, blinded by the harsh sunlight stabbing his eyes through the uncovered window. He couldn't even remember when he'd fallen asleep last night but he could already tell it was too early for everyone else to be awake.
He could recall a couple things from last night. Hange overstaying her welcome in his room, Erwin suggesting that Hange pay for his fucked up luggage and somethings he would rather not think about.
Preferably the others joining in his room to discuss breakfast plans. At which Sasha had suggested the diner they had already planned to go to early in the morning. Levi's heart sank as he recalled Y/N's gorgeous smile directed to Jean who had stood behind her rubbing her shoulders and whispering in her ear.
He squeezed his eyes shut, standing from his bed and immediately working to straighten out the sheets before eyeing the book he'd unpacked last night.
Maybe he could get some reading done before Hange inevitably came to annoy him.
The one he was currently holding was of a dog wearing a big floppy hat in the mist of sunflowers. He quickly matched it with his black and white sweatpants. And with a small sigh he headed to the bathroom.
He thumbed at the spine of the book, sliding his finger between the pages to the current bookmark. A shower would probably be a better start to the morning though. He set the book down unzipping one of his bags and pulling out the first pair of clothing folded at the top. Levi hadn't remembered packing one of his mother's many silly birthday gifts to him. She had always bought him shirts with pictures on them that confused him.
He didn't even remember the last time he'd had a shower that was hot for more than five minutes. Or the last time he could look down at his feet without seeing a hair monster in the drain.
He took a couple extra minutes to completely wash his hair, combing his fingers through the strands before shutting off the water and quickly getting dressed.
As he reentered his room he remembered the random gaze Jean threw his way. The smirk on his lips, the taunting glare and then just as quickly it was over. And he was talking to her like nothing had happened.
Levi had never once in his entire life thought about having a girlfriend. It just wasn't something that absorbed his thoughts but he knew the second he saw that smirk on Jean's face what he wanted to be to Y/N.
He just couldn't imagine how.
His fluffy towel hugged his head as he popped open the book he'd discarded a couple minutes ago. He pulled his feet in closer to his body tracing the letters on the page, delving into the story-
"Levi!"
Two fucking seconds.. that had to be a new record.
A barrage of harsh knocks sounded outside his door and he yanked it open to see Hange standing there out of breath with a barely alive looking Erwin behind her. Excitement flooding her features as she pushed past Levi with Erwin in tow. A blue toothbrush almost falling from his lips.
"You couldn't let him finish brushing his fucking teeth?" Levi grunted, shutting the door behind the two of them. Erwin sighed his eyes shut, toothbrush dangling from his mouth. "Why're you here?"
"We're all going for breakfast remember?"
"Not for another thirty minutes." Levi narrowed his eyes and leaned back against the tv table.
Hange smiled, "Yup and that means we have enough time to figure out a game plan to get you and Y/N together by the end of today." Hange clapped excitedly though both Erwin and Levi couldn't possibly look less enthused.
"I don't need your help."
"Erwin, back me up here!"
"I'm not doing shit since you didn't let me spit and I had to swallow toothpaste." Erwin remarked, squeezing the bridge of his nose.
Levi's face scrunched up and Hange let out a snort. "Why did you swallow it.. you could've just spit it out in the hall or something."
"That's fucking disgusting." Levi grunted
"Why the hell would I do that?" Erwin asked
"You're not supposed to swallow toothpaste duh!"
Everyone huffed all at once and Levi flopped down next to Erwin on the bed. "If I need any help I'll ask.." He mumbled already feeling heat fly to his cheeks.
"We're finally gonna get you a girlfriend Levi!!" Hange squeezed his body in a tight hug.
Just as Levi was about to push her away a couple of soft knocks sounded on his door again, "We're leaving a little earlier, hurry and come downstairs."
~~~~
Before the car had even pulled up back at the lodge Hange was already screaming about going skiing. Erwin had asked if Levi wanted to which he'd replied with a scoff.
"Really? Cause there are plenty of chances for Y/N to fall on you. Or you to fall on her." He shrugged.
Levi just rolled his eyes and at that Erwin gave up and now he was standing at the freezing cold railing watching everyone go down the stupid slope for what had to have been an hour or so. How'd he end up with bag watch? He didn't even wanna come outside.. He blew on his fingers trying and falling to warm them. At this point he felt exhausted, absolutely none of his clothes were keeping him warm.
With a sigh he pulled Hange and Erwin's bags up onto his shoulder along with Sasha and Connie's belongings. If he could manage to get upstairs he could warm up at least a little. A hot cup of tea practically beckoning him.
It took him only a couple seconds to realize he didn't have Y/N's bag. He looked around for a couple seconds. Did she bring a bag outside? Did he lose her bag?? He'd only left once to got to the bathroom. Did someone steal it.. Shit. He grumbled in disgust. Where could he have left it?
Feeling a bit panicked he headed towards the stairs. Blood running cold, his eyes practically bouncing out of his skull. His heart stopped at the display in front of him. Jean's hand on Y/N's waist as she leaned forward on the railing. Their lips pressed together..
Complicated - Chapter Two
Tumblr media
Chapter One: Here
Pairing: Dabi/Touya Todoroki x reader
Warnings: self-degradation/self-doubt
Word count: 2.2k
A/n: Gonna rework this and ditch the first person POV, jsyk.
A/n pt. 2: This story does contain spoilers for the show/manga. The dates/ages of characters are going to be shifted around a bit.
------------------
It's been two days. Is he gonna call? Text? Completely forget I exist?
I sigh, trying to expel the anxiety balled up in the pit of my stomach.
Why would he call? We talked for, what, five minutes? He seemed older too. You were in your damn school uniform, idiot. He's obviously got more important shit to do than chat up a schoolgirl who can't mind her own fucking business.
"Ugh," I groan to no one but myself in my apartment. "I'm really just the biggest fucking jackass, aren't I?"
Flopping down on my bed, I let out another weighty sigh and bury my face in the plethora of pillows piled beneath me.
Relax. Maybe he'll text. Maybe he won't. And if he doesn't he's just sparing you the embarrassment that you would inevitably bring upon yourself.
A yawn escapes my lips as I feel a wave of drowsiness wash over me. Glancing at the clock, I could see it was hardly 5 PM.
Fucked up sleep schedule, here I come.
The familiar comfort of my bed allows me to quiet my thoughts enough to fall into a shallow sleep, until I'm startled awake by a vibrating sensation coming from underneath my chin.
I blink against the harsh light emitting from my phone, squinting to see who was disturbing me.
What the--oh shit!
It was an unknown number. Recognizing that it could be him, I sit up faster than I have ever managed to after a nap and fumble the phone into my palm, eagerly sliding my thumb across the screen to accept the call.
"Hello?"
My breath hitches and I bite my lip in anticipation as I wait, eager to hear his deep, silky voice on the other end.
But the pause on the other side of the line seems just a little too long. Something is off.
Is this him? Is it..just some creep? A prank? What the hell?
"We've been trying to reach you about your car's extended warranty."
My eyes slam shut, a shake reverberating through my spine as a cocktail of anger and embarrassment wash over me.
That's it. Hope is off limits from now on.
"Fucking great."
I tap the end button, half ready to throw my phone out the window.
Instead, I decide to check and see if I missed anything else while I was out.
Hope is off limits.
I shake my head, trying to erase the little embers of hope that persist, praying that maybe he did reach out.
To my surprise, there's a text from an unrecognized number.
Unknown: You free tonight, doll?
Holy shit.
Looking above the message, I see: Today 6:58 PM. I wince as I dare to look at the clock, which mercifully reads 7:26 PM.
Tapping the text box, I don't give myself the chance to overthink this opportunity.
Me: For you? Sure thing.
Tossing my phone onto the bed, I nod my head, processing the sudden burst of confidence I seem to have found.
I'm not like this. What is it about this guy? He's just that--a guy. One that I don't know. And now I'm just gonna meet up with him?
He's literally a stranger. Who the hell do I think I am?? Is my vagina just running things now? Gonna run out and meet up with some strange dude, because he's pretty and charming?
You know who else was pretty and charming?? Ted Bundy.
That's right, you said it. This is dumb, logically. This is everything everyone’s ever warned you about.
My phone buzzes and my heart rate spikes in response, tearing me from my spiraling doubts.
Unknown: Our spot. 30 minutes. See you there.
A noise that I've certainly never made before eeks past my lips as I process his instructions.
Fuck it. The possibility of this guy being a serial killer has been assessed. I'm going, risks be damned.
You're an idiot. You're an idiot. You're an idiot.
I sigh for the umpteenth time today, waging war in my own mind.
I don't know what it is about him, but I have to see him again. Nothing bad is going to happen. It'll be fine.
That's what I tell myself as I exhale, until I catch my reflection.
My hair is disheveled, my mascara askew. I didn't even bother to take off my uniform before I passed out.
As if I weren't flustered enough, now I gotta make myself looking somewhere near presentable and get down there in time.
Here goes nothing.
Fifteen minutes fly by and I think I've managed it as I step back to look myself over in the mirror once more.
The shortest pair of high-waisted shorts I own, paired with a low-cut black crop top and my favorite slip-ons. My make-up doesn't look perfect and there's not much of it, but it's touched up, and my hair is at least brushed.
Okay, no turning back now.
Grabbing my keys, I tuck my phone in my back pocket and make my way to the meeting place.
+++++++++++++++
Our spot. The man is smooth and I think that he knows it.
I re-read the last message he sent for probably the thirteenth time in the past five minutes.
The clock in the corner of the screen reads 8:02.
Maybe he won’t show. Maybe this is a joke. He and his buddies with come around a corner and laugh as they speed off.
Damn, can I chill? No. He’s going to be here. And I’m going to act like a human fucking being. A normal girl. Someone he could like; I’m capable of that.
Aren’t I?
Scanning my surroundings yet again, I take in the scenery. I never really get out at night, but the city looks so pretty this way. There’s not too much traffic, especially considering that it’s a Friday night, but there are some people milling about up and down the sidewalk. Some look like they’re on their way home. Some look like they’re on their way out for a night on the town.
“Hey there.”
My eyes are quick to follow the sound of his voice. I look up and he’s strolling up to the bench where I’m seated, the same one where I bandaged his arm the other day.
His hands are shoved in his front pockets, thumbs pushed through the belt loops of the tight, black jeans he’s sporting. His white t-shirt dangles off of his frame in a way that suits him, offering a glimpse of his muscular chest. A black coat completes his ensemble and he certainly looks the part of the typical bad boy.
But, damn, does it look so good on him.
“Hey, there. How’s the arm?”
I scoot over a bit, allowing for ample space between us if he were to take a seat. To my surprise, he sits towards the middle of the bench, so that his thigh brushes against mine as he settles.
I tuck my hair behind my ear, glancing down and covering the noise I want to make with a quiet clearing of my throat.
“It’s good. You do make a pretty decent nurse, sweetheart.”
He grins and pulls his coat sleeve back, revealing the still bandaged wound.
“Wait, have you changed that?”
You’re such a mom. You better hope he’s into MILFs, because otherwise this ain’t gonna get you where you wanna go, girl.
His brow furrows in an expression that tells me all I need to know before he even speaks.
“What do you mean? Changed what?”
A quiet sigh leaves my lungs as I hold out my hand.
“May I?”
His puzzled expression doesn’t falter, but he shrugs and offers his forearm up for inspection.
Carefully, I pull back the tape holding the bandages together and slowly begin to unwrap them.
That is, until the smell hits me. I barely catch of glimpse of the reddened skin before my nostrils detect the scent of burned flesh and excess viscera.
“Oh, dear. Have you even unwrapped this thing?”
Trying not to agitate anything further, I delicately wrap the bandages back around his arm, taping them down once again.
“No, should I have?”
I look up and my gaze meets his, a sense of true ignorance evident in his expression; I try not to laugh. I really try, but a soft giggle escapes nonetheless.
“Yes! I mean, if it doesn’t hurt, I’m sure it’s not that bad right now, but you should be cleaning and redressing a wound like that once every 12 hours at the very least. It’s been what, like, at least 50 at this point?”
His good arm reaches for the back of his neck, scratching at it as he dons an apologetic half smile.
“Sorry, I’m not exactly nurturing by nature, doll. I don’t know the first fucking thing about this kind shit.”
I cock a sympathetic smile as I look at him, sitting there looking almost helpless. I guess he is, in a sense. It’s actually kinda cute how he doesn’t seem to have an inkling of how to properly care for himself.
Because that’s absolutely what you want in a potential relationship. Someone to fix, how fun! Why not open up a shop for broken boys? Girl, when will you learnnn??
“Well, I don’t have anything on me right now, but if you don’t mind coming back to my place, I could clean it up there? And I’ll teach you how to keep up with it this time.”
I guess not today, motherfucker.
“Coming to my rescue again. You must be in a hero course, huh, doll?”
His smile is so naturally disarming as he stands and offers his hand out before me.
“I don’t mind, if you’re sure you don’t. I don’t wanna make you uncomfortable and I don’t wanna be a burden. I didn’t ask you out tonight for you to have to play doctor on me again.”
He seems so sweet, so genuine. Maybe he is broken, but everyone deserves kindness. He looks like he hasn’t seen much of that. And as cliché as it is, maybe I can help him. Maybe he can help me.
I slip my hand in his, smiling as flirtatiously as I can manage as he pulls me to my feet.
“I don’t mind. I was kind of hoping I might get to play doctor on you again anyway. Maybe you could even return the favor.”
I brush my fingers against his as our hands disconnect, taking a page from his own book and watching his expression as my skin glides against his.
Or maybe we could just do this. This works too. No muss, no fuss. But oh my goodness what if what I just did was weird and he’s not even interested??
His eyebrows rise for just a moment as he chuckles and glances down, still grinning as he puts his hands in his coat pockets.
“Well, sweetheart, I don’t know much about medicine, but I do know how to give a pretty thorough physical exam.”
Something twitched deep inside my belly as my breath caught in my throat and I damn near tripped over my own two feet as we started walking.
Thankfully, his reflexes were quicker than my inate ability to fuck things up and his good arm reached out to steady my frame as he stepped in front of me.
The delicious scent of his cologne mingling with remnant cigarette smoke nearly made me dizzy as my hands connected with his chest, now completely unable to ignore the muscles just beneath his thin shirt.
“You all right there, doll?”
Long, slender fingers find their way under my chin. His thumb just barely brushing the edge of my bottom lip as he strokes it over my chin.
His eyes are practically piercing mine as he carefully lifts my face to his. Who knew being in such close proximity to someone so beautiful could be this paralyzing.
Holy fuck. Forget fixing me. He can break me and I’ll probably thank him for it.
The strong hand on the small of my back threatens to rob me of my breath all over again and I have to fight to keep any semblance of composure in his arms.
“Yeah.” I tuck a stray strand of hair behind my ear and will myself to break eye contact. “You always have girls falling for you this quickly?”
I pity laugh at my own joke, wishing my quirk was something that would allow me to disappear.
But then he’s chuckling too. It’s melodious at first, but then it morphs into a deep reverberation that sends all the right chills down my spine as I level my eyes with his again.
He looks like an enigma personified. His eyes look so gentle and warm, but his smile reads so sad. The words that leave his lips sound like both a warning and an invitation to my flushe red ears.
“Trust me, princess. You don’t wanna fall for me. I’m no good for you.”
Oh, but it’s too late for that.
Peter Parker's Day Off
This story is for the @friendly-neighborhood-exchange and my giftee is @avengersincamphalfbloodstardis so I hope you like it!
Before anyone draws comparisons between this and the fic @marvelous-writer posted a few weeks ago, we've already gotten it worked out, so go read her fic after mine!
Editing and cover credits go to @clover-roseee!
And now, on with the story!
Peter groaned as he woke up, and tried to force himself awake as Morgan jumped the end of his bed again. "I'm up, Morg, I'm up," he replied as rubbed his eyes, forcing himself to sit up. His body and head felt heavy, and he had that general sick feeling, so despite how much Morgan's excitement tended to rub off on him, it didn't this time. In fact, Peter wasn't even sure how he could be excited when his chest was tight and his nose was so stuffed up.
Morgan didn't seem to pick up on how he was feeling, though. "Come on, Petey!" she instead insisted, before hopping off his bed and running out of his room. "Daddy's making blueberry pancakes before we go to the zoo!"
The trip to the zoo had been planned for weeks, and Pepper had even taken a day off to come with (which was a rarity in itself). May had gotten held up at the hospital, too, so it was perfect timing that he stayed with the Starks for the first week of spring break; but while he really wanted to see Morgan lose her mind over lions, tigers, and birds, he still couldn't shake the sick feeling from his body.
"Come on, Petey! Daddy's making blueberry pancakes before we go to the zoo!" She insisted before running out of his room, singing about the trip.
Grabbing his bathrobe off of his closet door, Peter wrapped it around his shoulders and tried to regain some body heat before shuffling down the stairs. The smell of pancakes hit him as he went into the hall, and he knew immediately that his senses were in overdrive.
When he finally made it to the dining room, Morgan was going over some facts she had learned about lions for a school project and Pepper was looking at the news on her phone, but looked up when she saw Peter sit at the table. "Are you alright, sweetheart?" she asked, upon seeing his pale face, and the thin layer of sweat on his forehead.
Peter started to respond, but instead let out a harsh cough into his elbow. That was enough of a reason for Pepper to get up from the table in search of the thermometer. Meanwhile, Morgan got up from her chair and ran into the kitchen area. "Daddy!" she exclaimed, "Petey's sick!"
Flipping the last few pancakes on to the large serving plate, Tony cleaned his hands with a dry washcloth and turned the stove off. Then, once that was done, he turned his attention to Peter and, with Morgan tagging along behind him, made his way over. "See!" Morgan repeated. "He's sick!"
"Yeah, I definitely see what you're talking about." Tony ruffled Morgan's hair before placing a hand against Peter's forehead. "And that's definitely a fever." He sighed before looking down at his daughter. "Sorry, Morguna. Looks like the zoo is gonna have to wait for a few days."
"But we have to go, Daddy!" Morgan fought back. "Mommy took the day off and everything!" Just as it looked like that Tony would have to deal with a tantrum at eight thirty in the morning, Pepper came back in the room with the ear thermometer and gently inserted it into Peter's ear. "Mommy, we have to go to the zoo!"
"Morgan's right," Peter agreed, receiving an enthusiastic grin from her. "I mean, you did take the day off to go with her to the zoo…"
Pepper looked skeptical. "I don't know. I don't feel comfortable leaving you here by yourself."
"Then how about Mr. Stark stays with me?" Peter proposed, taking a moment to cough into his elbow. Pepper, in return, placed a hand on his back. "You guys can send us pictures, and it'll feel like we're right there with you."
Pepper looked to her husband. "Tony? Are you okay with this?" she asked, as the thermometer beeped. She took it out and sighed when the reading revealed Peter had a temperature of 101.8. "Staying here with Peter?"
"'Course. I've got the spider kid, you two go have fun," Tony insisted, before leaning forward and kissing his wife's cheek. "Like he said, just send us lots of photos. Maybe let Morgan feed a giraffe while you're there, too."
Pepper broke apart from the kiss, and went over to grab her tote bag with her sunglasses, camera and Morgan's change purse full of nickels and pennies. "Alright, try and have a good day," she said, after slipping her shoes on. "Feel better, Peter."
Morgan ran up and hugged Tony tightly, and did the same to Peter before heading outside to the car, with Pepper following closely behind. When the car pulled out of the driveway, Tony turned to the resident sick kid. "So, how does crashing on the couch and watching some Star Wars sound?"
"Can we watch something else? I'm regretting getting Morgan obsessed with it," Peter spoke as he stood up from the table, trying to force the sudden headache that was building behind his eyes.
"Yeah, sure. Whatever you want," Tony insisted as Peter shuffled over to the couch and grabbed the remote. "We should probably get you some Tylenol, though."
Peter nodded, starting to scroll through Netflix. Since Morgan preferred Disney+, he knew he would probably find something he wasn't sick of on there. But his vision was going in in and out, and starting to get spotty, and he was fighting every bone in his body in order to stay awake.
Suddenly Tony appeared beside him, and Peter distantly wondered how he did it. "Here," he said, pouring three white tablets into Peter's right hand, and swapping the remote for a bottle of blue Gatorade with the other. "Take that, and go to bed, kid. I'll find something to watch, you look exhausted."
Dropping the pills into his mouth and washing it down with a swig of Gatorade, Peter wiped his mouth on the sleeve of his bathrobe before doing what he was told. Tony's taste in movies was often better than Morgan's or Pepper's anyway, so he let himself relax and, feeling a blanket being draped over him, allowed the music of whatever Tony had picked lull him to sleep.
•••
"So, what do you wanna see first?" Pepper asked her daughter, as the two climbed out of the car doors. They had spent a little over half an hour driving, and Pepper already had the online map on her phone all ready and set-up. Knowing her daughter, though, she'd probably want to see more of the cuddly animals first, before going to see the creepier ones.
"Hmm…" Morgan hummed and tilted her head as she thought. She definitely wanted to go see the lions, but she was also wondering if they had a penguin exhibit, and maybe a snake one, too. "I dont know! Can we go see the dolphins? Please?"
"Sure." Pepper smiled and gently grasped her daughter's hand in hers, before they made their way inside. "And then we'll go feed the giraffe, like your dad wanted to. Sound good?" She verbalized the plan, trying to make it stick in Morgan's head, but, in reality, she was just wanting to spend some much needed time with her daughter. It was always a rarity when she was able to take time off, and she wanted to make the most of it.
Morgan nodded, but the period of silence was broken by her stopping in front of the snake exhibit. "Mommy, look!" she shouted, bouncing on her heels giddily. "Can we look at these first? Please?"
"Of course." Pepper nodded, took her camera out of her bag, and watched as one of the exhibit employees, per Morgan's request, placed a boa constrictor around her shoulders. "Say cheese on three, sweetie!"
•••
When Peter woke up on the couch, he felt like he could barely breathe through his nose, and could feel the intensity of the pressure in his head. Then, sitting up, he glanced around the room, before trying to peer into the kitchen. "Mr. Stark?" he asked, the stuffiness having apparently spread to his voice with how nasally he sounded. "Are you here?"
"In the kitchen!" the stay at home dad called back. Sighing and flopping back on to the couch, Peter re-covered himself with the blanket Tony draped over him, before he heard a "Shit, that's hot!" and the man himself appeared in the doorway. "Okay," he announced, as he walked over to his sick kid, "I've got good news and bad news. Which do you want first?"
Peter smirked. "What's the bad news?"
"Bad news," Tony explained, as he set a plate of soggy charcoal-coloured toast on the table, "is that I burnt your toast, and put too much butter on; so, it's kinda ruined now, kid."
Peter chuckled, as he sat up and, despite how terrible the toast looked, took a bite from it. 'At least Tony tried,' he thought. "And the good news?" he asked.
"The good news is that I ordered soup for later—don't look at me like that!—and that I did manage to make sure your Gatorade stayed cold," Tony said, as he set the half-full Gatorade on the coffee table, right beside where the plate previously was. Then, he had taken a seat near the sick teen's feet and patted his knee. "But, it doesn't matter now. How're you feeling, Pete?"
Peter sat up a bit to place the soggy toast beside the Gatorade, and laid back down against his pillows. "My head still hurts," he muttered, trying to warm himself up as he buried himself beneath the blanket, "'nd I've been kinda feeling sick. There's no other medicine I can take, right?"
Tony shook his head. "'Fraid not, kiddo. And, even if there was, I don't wanna give you mixed medications and have to take you to a hospital, so it's not gonna happen."
Peter groaned.
"But, what I can do is let you see all the pictures Pepper sent me of Morgan." Tony smiled as he pulled out his phone, and swiped on over to his 'Messages' section. "There's even one of her holding a boa constrictor, if you wanna see it."
Peter shook his head, remembering his very bad experience with a snake from years ago. "I think I'll pass on that," he said, before sitting up and glancing over Tony's shoulder. "But is there one of her with a penguin? Or a giraffe?"
Tony nodded, as he passed the phone over, and adjusted the two of them, so Peter was leaning against his side, with his head on his chest. "Oh, yeah," he replied. "Third and fifth one in. My personal favourites, though, are the ones with the sloths and otters."
In response, Peter yawned, and, after scrolling through all the photos, gave the phone back to Tony. He was getting exhausted again, and assumed, as he buried his head into his mentor's chest, that Tony had moved on to watching the videos Pepper had sent him, so he shut his eyes and allowed Morgan's excited squeals to lull him back into a peaceful sleep.
•••
"Alright, honey," Pepper said, smiling, as she fished Morgan's change purse out of her tote bag, "you can pick one thing out from the gift shop, and then we're going to head home." She held her daughter's hand as they approached the small gift shop, located back at the entrance. She was thankful she hadn't lost her daughter when they were visiting the exhibits, but if there was one place where she would lose her, then it was definitely the gift shop.
Morgan took her change purse from her mother's hand, and looked up at her, pleadingly. "Can I get something for Petey, too?" she asked with her adorable, wide eyes. "He's sick and we can get something to make him feel better!"
"Nothing fragile," Pepper negotiated, "and nothing made of glass. Otherwise, you can go nuts and get whatever you want. Deal?" She held her hand up for a high five.
"Deal!" Morgan exclaimed excitedly, as she returned the high-five. Unfortunately, Morgan was five, and that meant she was still rather small, so the high-five ended up being one of those off-beat ones, where they missed each other and ended up mostly slapping the air instead. Pepper still smiled, though, and watched as Morgan made a B-line for the stuffed animals.
'That's a good idea,' she thought to herself. 'Peter would probably prefer cuddling one of those instead of a rubber snake, anyway.'
•••
"Daddy, Daddy, we're home!" Morgan announced, a little over forty-five minutes later, before she slipped off her shoes and bright yellow leather rainjacket at the door. Then, she had resumed running into the kitchen, where she wrapped her arms around her dad's legs. "Mommy and I saw penguins, and sloths, I got to hold a snake!"
Setting down the knife he was using to chop up the peppers and celery, Tony had then dried his hands with a washcloth, before turning and giving his full attention to his daughter. "That's great, Morguna," he replied, as he kneeled down to her level and planted a small kiss atop her head. "But you'll have to tell me everything when Peter wakes up, okay? He still doesn't feel so good, and he needs a lot of rest to get better."
"Okay!" Morgan agreed, happily, before she pulled a grey and white ovaloid object out of her little purse. "We got him a penguin!" She exclaimed, enthusiastically bouncing on her heels once more. "Do you think he'll like it? I hope he likes it!"
Tony nodded, as he ran his hand through his daughter's messy brown hair. "I'm sure he'll love it, Morguna."
"Now, go wash your hands, okay?" Pepper said, as she came up behind her daughter and gently nudged her towards the bathroom. In response, Morgan did as she was told, and Pepper took that chance to heave the groceries up on to the counter, and started putting them away. "Morgan insisted we get juice pops for Peter," she explained, as she opened the freezer and stuffed the box of popsicles inside. "How did things go at home today?"
"Pretty good. He's gotten a bit better since you guys left, but he told me he was feeling sick, so we'll have to keep an eye on him tonight."
"Alright." Pepper smiled and put up the last of the groceries before turning to her husband. "I'm gonna sit in there till dinner is ready." She planted a quick kiss against Tony's cheek before sitting in the armchair that was beside the couch Peter was asleep on, and started to go through some files on her laptop. Days off were always a rarity for her, so she wanted to transfer the photos to her phone, so she could look at them while she was at work.
She looked up when she heard a rustling noise, only to see Morgan come in with the stuffed penguin and put it under Peter's right arm before climbing on the couch and curling up next to him. Watching as Peter unconsciously wrapped his left arm around Morgan, Pepper smiled and waited until her daughter's eyes closed to take a picture.
She'd be thanked, later.
Nuestra Familia (RCD MC: Astrid)
Book: Red Carpet Diaries
Rating: G
Pairing: Astrid-centric, minor Seth x Astrid
Summary: Astrid realises she doesn't know her family as well she had thought. Minor crossover with The Freshman/The Sophomore/The Junior.
Author's Note: This is a bit late for MC Appreciation Week, but I figured I'd put it out there anyway. This is my origin story for Astrid Ortega, my second RCD MC, who is involved with Seth. There's a cameo of one character from TF/TS/TJ in the end and I have a feeling you folks have already figured out who it is 😅 I used (of course) the "crossover" prompt from this list for my fic. I'm tagging @choices-mc-rules, in case they would still like to reblog this.
Translations:
Nuestra familia - "our family" in Spanish.
Chanclas - slippers/flip-flops
Tres leches cake - Typically a very moist chiffon cake soaked in a mixture of evaporated milk, condensed milk and heavy cream. Tres leches literally means "three milks".
Abuela - one of the terms used for ‘grandmother’ in Spanish.
Ita - Short for Abuelita, also used for grandmothers. Astrid calls her grandmother the former, her mom Teresa calls her grandmother the latter.
Manda Huevos - Can mean a lot of things according to context, but generally used to express a range of emotions, such as annoyance, disappointment, contempt or disbelief. In this context, Teresa means “it's not fair”.
If I've gotten anything wrong in terms of references, please do tell me, and I'll definitely fix it in the fic.
“One more foot inside my kitchen and it'll be my chanclas for you later.”
Teresa Ortega said these words to her daughter Astrid, in the same tone one would use to offer a guest some tea.
It wasn't that her mom didn't allow her kids to help with the cooking. She did. Salome was too young to do much but set the table yet but Astrid (and her big sister Letitia, whenever she was home) often pitched in to help with the meal.
But heaven help anyone who tried to help Mom with her tres leches cake.
This recipe was from Mom's Ita’s faded little diary, passed down to her by her mother on the condition that she would learn its recipes off by heart. It was her pride and joy, Mom would often say. Her baby before her actual babies came along.
And today it was even more essential Mom get this cake right. Astrid's abuela was visiting, and ever since Astrid's mother insisted on naming her Astrid (“She’s already named my first and last - at least leave the middle one to me!”) she could do nothing right.
Perhaps it would've been easier to handle if Dad wasn't Abuela's only son, if Mom had someone she could jointly ignore Abuela with, if they had cousins they could play with while the adults sorted out their issues. Or perhaps not. Still, it would have been nice to know.
“Easy, mom, I'm not going to touch your precious cake,” Astrid said, grinning, “Lemme demolish it at lunch instead.”
She'd be lying if she said she wasn't tempted, though. She could get the scent of baked cake wafting in all the way from her bedroom, and her mother was already starting to combine Carnation milk, condensed milk and 1/4th of a cup of heavy cream into a thin, but somewhat creamy, mixture.
Mom raised her eyebrows. “Why are you here, then?”
Astrid felt the muscles around her neck tense up, but schooled her face to a look of injured innocence. “What, can't I just want to talk to my mom once in a while?”
She craned her neck a little further behind Astrid, a tiny frown beginning to form between her brows. “What's that you're holding behind your back?”
Ding! The cake was ready now, just in time for soaking. Astrid let out a sigh of relief. She wanted Mom to see this wedding card, yes - it was why she came to the kitchen in the first place - but now was probably not the time for questions. Questions about family or about secrets. Not when she knew how important it was for her mother to get her weekend cakes right.
“Family” was always a big deal around the Ortega table. Dad was his mother's only child, and Mom’s parents passed on long before any of them were ever born. Her father was as annoyed by Abuela's antics as her mother was, but it never stopped him from having her visit every Sunday because “she's the only family we have left”.
It was as if he needed her to keep himself rooted, as if without her he would be floating aimlessly, no aim or identity, taking his wife and children down that path with him. Abuela knew this. By God, did she know this.
Or so I thought, Astrid said to herself, gripping the wedding card tightly and creating new creases where the word Ortega was written.
Mom was gritting her teeth now, carefully pouring the three-milk mixture over the cake and muttering to herself. “One more word about dry cake this time and I'll give her soggy toast, I swear I will.”
Astrid would have stood up last week and said something to Abuela, if only Mom would let her. It was probably a good thing Leticia wasn't around, she'd fire shots at Abuela for less. She was protective over all of them and often in the heat of the moment she'd forget she’d be landing them all in further trouble.
She was still muttering. “Wants chiffon cake. Screams bloody murder if I use box mix. What, Teresa, looking for shortcuts again?” Mom's voice was raised in an accurately nasal imitation of Abuela's voice. It was almost like she'd forgotten Astrid was there. “Then I make it from scratch like she wants. Then it's Oh Teresa this is so dry oh Teresa it tastes like sawdust. Why else do you think I use box mix, eh? You want it from scratch and you want moist. ¡Manda Huevos!”
The diatribe kept Mom occupied while she finished pouring, so Astrid kept silent. Mom needed this. This wasn't something she can say in front of Letitia (resulting in another Sunday screaming match) or Dad (what would he do?) or Salome (no way would the kid ever take Salome, language! seriously again). Mom needed someone to have her back, no matter how silently or secretly. And that someone had better be her.
“If only Linda had stayed…”
Astrid froze. “What did you say?”
Mom looked up, blinked twice, then stiffened. “Nothing. Nothing.”
Silently, Astrid handed over the card she'd been holding, all this time. She found it while searching for her dad's treasured García Lorca poetry collection, hidden between a page that exalted love and a page that mourned loss.
Mom took it from her, her eyes widening as she read the words.
LINDA ORTEGA
and
DOMINIC SANDOVAL
request the honour of your company at their wedding.
“Dad always told us he was all Abuela has, right,” Astrid said, “The only Ortega for miles around."
Mom answered by busying herself with more activity than ever. Keeping the soaked cake in the fridge. Pouring the remaining milk mixture into two glasses. Washing her hands. Washing the dishes.
“I'll do that for you,” Astrid took a plate from Mom's hands, “Just talk to me.” She grabbed a sponge and dish washing soap, cleaning vigorously. “All this time, Dad's been telling us Abuela's the only family he has, Mom. Like, he has no one else. Like, we have no sisters or brothers besides the three of us. Was he lying?”
“You're wrong,” Mom said, her voice suddenly sounding sharper, harder, “Abuela's the only family he has left. Your father didn't lie.”
“Just omitted the truth, yeah,” Astrid wished she knew how she felt about this. Right now there was so much she was feeling that she didn't exactly know where to begin. “There's no “together with our parents” above their names either. Not like yours’.”
Mom sighed, picked the card up, then held up two glasses of milk-mixture in front of her. “Take one and give the other to your sister. I have a lot of work to do.”
On any other day, Astrid would have grabbed that glass and relished its creaminess, wiping the milk-moustache off her mouth with a flourish. But today no amount of sweetness was going to take away that weird metallic taste in the roof of her mouth.
“I'm not done asking about this,” Astrid said, scowling, “to you or to Dad. If I have aunts and cousins out there, that's something I wanna know.”
Astrid did try in the weeks to come. But she never saw the wedding card again, and neither Mom or Dad ever responded when she raised the topic again. Still. It felt nice to dream.
Every time Abuela made a snide remark at lunch, she imagined her cousins there. A snarky younger girl who’d make smartass comments. A strong boy her age who’d shut Abuela up with just a glare. A nice aunt who’d take Mom's mind off all this nonsense. It didn't help much, but it felt nice.
It felt nice knowing she had company out there. Somewhere.
6 years later.
“Donuts, Iowa?” Seth’s eyes were gleaming at the prospect. He was more a bag-of-chips kinda guy most days, but he also liked having massive sugar rushes before a comedy gig.
“As long as the insides of six of those are practically spilling over with fruit jam, I'm game,” she said, standing on her tiptoes to kiss his cheek. It felt exhilarating, freeing. She hadn't felt this normal in a while - normal enough to kiss her boyfriend without worrying about paparazzo jumping out from a bush. There was a guy in a leather jacket she didn't recognize - three blocks across - looking at her like he wanted to talk, but not in a way that made her feel unsafe.
That was the nice thing about Northbridge. People looked, sure, but they were less likely to make you feel like an exhibit from a zoo.
“Wait here, yeah?” Seth said, planting a kiss on the lips instead, “I'll be back before you can finish spelling “OHIO” with your arms.”
Astrid laughed. Seth said the most Ohio things sometimes. Neither of them had had this much fun since she was offered a lead role in Tender Nothings, which was why Seth always jumped at a chance to take up gigs in Northbridge, and why he always offered to take Astrid along when she was free.
The guy from before stepped forward a few minutes after Seth entered the donut shop. The summer heat must have been too much for him - his leather jacket was now slung over his shoulders. “Um, hello. Astrid Ortega?”
He stood with his hands in his pockets, mouth pursed into a thin line, a tiny curl slipping carelessly from his hair and resting on his forehead. She caught a peek at the tail end of a bird tattoo (Owl? The tail looked pointy) on his left arm.
“Yeah,” Astrid said, wondering whether it was her or Seth he wanted to talk to, “but I don't know what your name is.”
“ Zigmund. Zig for short,” he replied, looking behind him from time to time, “My sister Lucy’s a big fan. Asked me to help her get an autograph from you.”
“Is she here?”
“Yeah. But she doesn't want to come out. She's shy.”
Ah. So that was the cherry-red blur barely hidden by that building. She learned long ago that no matter how friendly you appeared, your image would precede you and intimidate people anyway. Autographs were great, but somehow she didn't want to stop at just that.
“Would she come out now if I asked?” she gave him her sunniest smile, “Tell her I won't bite.”
Zig hesitated, then nodded. Astrid watched him walk to the other building, move his hands expressively as he tried to convince his sister to join him (from that angle he almost looks like Letitia, Astrid thought), and return with a curly-haired, starry-eyed teenage girl.
“H-hey,” she said, then blushed, clearly embarrassed by her nervousness. Silently, she hands over her autograph book. She keeps her eyes studiously away from Astrid's face. “I, um, I like mystery films, and I really, really liked Tender Nothings.”
A girl after my own heart. “Maybe you'll like Sunset Boulevard, then,” she said, smiling.
Astrid could have just signed and left it at that, but there was something about these two. Something about the way they stood together, or exchanged glances, or something, that reminded her of home. Which was silly. But it didn’t change the fact that she wanted to leave a good impression on them.
“What would you like to be when you grow up, Lucy?”
Lucy didn't miss a beat. “Ballet dancer. Like my brother.”
Astrid smiled, particularly at the look the girl gave Zig. Yes, she could see on second glance that even though some people would say he didn't have the body of a dancer, he held himself with a certain grace, a certain lightness that belied a stronger core. Hit by a sudden rush of inspiration, she quickly scribbled a little note to go with her signature, and asked Lucy to read it.
To Lucy and Zig, future (hopefully!) best ballet dancing duo in America. Be sure to save me a seat when you folks get famous. Love Always, Astrid.
“Wowwww,” Lucy whispered. Zig suppressed his smile, trying not to let how he felt show, and failed. A corner of his mouth lifted upwards, revealing an almost-invisible dimple.
The two left before Seth brought his box of donuts,but they thanked her at least thrice as they walked away.
“Wait till I tell Mom about this,” Astrid overheard Lucy tell her brother as they left, “I told you she'd be really, really nice.”
“You did,” there was a note of indulgence in Zig's voice.
"Ortegas all around the world. Wherever we're from, we're nice.”
Had Seth come out a moment later, Astrid would have probably walked up to them and asked. Perhaps asked them where they were from and their parents’ names.
But Seth was here, with donuts, and there was never a moment she could take her eyes off either.
“Do you know those two?” Seth asked her, passing her a tres leches cake donut that was claimed to be one of their best, “They looked familiar.”
“”No,” Astrid replied, closing her eyes in bliss. Mmmm. The treat was taking her back to Des Moines, back to home, back to her mother's little kitchen. “But I wouldn't mind meeting them again.”
