The evolution of Kanao Kocho's dress

When we first see Kanao, she is wearing a special-made Demon Slayer Corps dress uniform, which consists of a pleated, long, purple skirt. Image below.

As we can see, there is barely any skin showing between her legs and the top of her boots. She is nearly completely covered. This symbolizes body image difficulty, which we know she has, as it was explored in several of the light novels, and in the anime. Kanao was starved from a young age, but was led to believe she was overweight, and ugly, which most likely stemmed her request to Shinobu and Aoi for a unique uniform. She had also seen Shinobu burn her first uniform (with the open chest, like Kanroji's) and she had seen Kanae politely hand it back and create her own with Aoi. This was most likely also a part of why Kanao chose to cover up, because she could not make her own decisions, and she had seen two of her sisters, people she looks up to, choose to cover up, which is most likely a contributing factor as to why Kanao wore a special-made uniform, sewn by Aoi Kanzaki.

But, that all changed after meeting Tanjiro. After meeting Tanjiro, she began to feel more confident in her body, and in her choices. After their meeting at the butterfly mansion, in which Tanjiro flipped her coin, and it landed on heads, leading her to make her own choices. After this happened, Kanao felt even more afraid at first, and even refused to go on missions for a couple days afterwards. But, when she began to realize what Tanjiro meant, and the freedom she had now, she began to use that freedom. She began even asking Shinobu for missions, unlike before, where she would be waiting for Shinobu to hand them to her. After she began asking and receiving, and successfully completing more missions, Kanao began to feel more confident and comfortable in her own skin. She then altered her uniform herself, making it with a slightly shorter skirt. This is seen in the first episode of the Swordsmith Village Arc. Picture below.

After Kanao starts to grow more comfortable in her body, she starts to wear the uniform pictured above. But, after Kanao found out about the growing feelings and affection between Genya Shinazugawa and Tanjiro Kamado, Kanao started to feel something she never felt before. In fact, it had been a long time since she felt anything. But Kanao started to feel jealous. Tanjiro and Genya had just been through so much together in the Swordsmith Village, while him and Kanao had just trained together. When Kanao found this out, she asked Aoi to alter her uniform again. Aoi asked what it was for, but Kanao wouldn't say, likely due to embarrassment. After Aoi altered it again, it became even shorter and tighter, emphasizing her bust and showing off her legs. Picture below.

As you can see in the above picture, most of her legs are showing, and the skirt is barely covering her backside. She did this most likely to catch Tanjiro's attention, and to drive Genya away, since Genya hated girls, and showing more of her body would most likely make him uncomfortable.

Everything I've talked about above is a great sign of growth for Kanao Kocho. Stay tuned for more!

Inosuke lived in the wild all of his life. But now imagine this scenario; Kanae and Shinobu find a feral child named inosuke outside there butterfly estate.....and decide to adopt him just like they did with Kanao.

I think at first he barely listens to them, and runs away many times despite them fearing for his safety, yet he always comes back for family dinner of course. Eventually he permanently stays and recognizes them as family, and Kanao, Shinobu and Kanae become his older sisters to him. He is enrolled as one of the butterfly girls (or at least the first butterfly boy) but like Kanao is not satisfied with just helping the demonslayer corps from the side lines. So together they secretly train with there own breathing styles and sneak off to final selection where they help each other defeat demons and survive the seven nights. I also imagine they are inseparable and do everything together, so when inosuke goes to fight that drum demon, Kanao is also there which results in her joining the trio with Tanjiro and Zenitsu much earlier.

This also makes the fight between him and douma much much more personal for inosuke, because not only has douma killed his mom, but has killed both of his older sisters.

On a better note however, imagine how cute Inosuke would be dressed as a butterfly girl? I think he would also wear the second butterfly pin kanae left behing like kanao. And anyone who teases him about it (I'm looking at you zenitsu) he will fight.

I hope you’re doing alright, may I please request some Romantic headcanons for Kanao with a Male reader, who's perhaps Aoi’s brother but he stayed as a Demon Slayer, who has a crush on Kanao and cares about her (he never minded her bluntness, and was always ready to help her) but he's secretly jealous on how close she and Tanjiro got? Just some slight angst with plenty of fluff, but only if it's alright!

Ooh! I’m pretty sure I haven’t written for Kanao solely yet so this’ll be exciting to try out!

Tsuyuri Kanao- Sunflowers and Roses

Kanao doesn’t really have many actual friends. Sure, she has her adoptive sister and the girls of the Estate but they aren’t true friends in a level that you are and because of that, she highly values you. She met you when Shinobu brought in you and your younger sister, Aoi to work for the mansion but you trained under Shinobu to become a demon slayer

Kanao’s heart pitter patters with you. Is this what friendship feels like? She always asks her as she calmly listens to you talk. She doesn’t ever talk to anybody about her opinions on you as she has been conditioned to keep her mouth shut, though she can’t help but wonder if that feeling is normal for friends to have

Kanao patiently waits for you to return to the Estate and stares at your hand when you do. She wants to hold your hand, it makes her feel a strange warm feeling but she just can’t bring herself to ask so it is awkward silence for a few seconds before you take charge. She blushes and gasps everytime, no matter what

Kanao believes she views you as just a friend and the treatment you give her is viewed as positively normal when everybody else can clearly tell you don’t feel just friendship for the Tsuguko, you’re madly in love with her and you always tend to her, every injury. You’re there to care for her, whilst she is oblivious to your advances

Kanao loves making baked sweets for you but again, can’t gather the confidence to directly give you them so she leaves the tray in your room with a unspecified note. Aoi is usually the one who tells you that the gift is from Kanao and her friendly gestures enable your massive crush on her

Kanao is more than a bit insecure about your strong bond with her. Wouldn’t, a nice guy like you, get so sick of a annoying girl like her? Doesn’t have any emotions, so quiet and blunt, can’t decide for herself. She believes you deserve a much better close ally but she doesn’t want to hurt your feelings at all

Kanao doesn’t notice the way you glare angrily at her and Tanjiro spending time together, from behind her back. She just genuinely believes you’re completely fine with Tanjiro and she doesn’t believe you would care so much about her being close to another guy

It all crumbles down when you notice how Kanao stares lovestruck at Tanjiro. No… she’s in love with him?! You can’t take it. Kanao is concerned by the way you close yourself off from everybody, out of the blue and she is desperate to help you, like how you always helped her, but she doesn’t know what to do so she goes to Tanjiro and his friends, unaware that including them makes you more cold and hostile towards her

Her heart is broken at the way you bark at her to leave you alone. B-but… you’re best friends, don’t you think that? Are you angry at her? What did she do?

Kanao will figure out how to make you talk to her, one way or another. She truly cares for you, as much as you care for her and she really does value you to a extreme degree. You’re her only longest friend and you’ve always been her rock, her support
