Got any good resources on setting up pihole? (competence level: generally high, but unfamiliar with raspberry pi)

So this won’t be a comprehensive guide because I am dumb as fuck. But if a smoothbrain like me can figure it out and have a pihole ready to go, then any one can.

My main resource I used were these guides from Tom’s Hardware and Privacy international. The offical Pi-Hole site also has a damn good guide to help you get set up from what you need to what to do.

What you need first is a Raspberry Pi with at least 512 MB of RAM, which all of them have. You can buy one from here or you can check out Raspberrypi.com for where to buy the different Pi’s.

Then you need an SD Card that is at least 2GB large to hold the OS, make sure you have all the cords and cables as well. And personally I like having my Pi in a case just so it looks nice. Whatever Pi you get make sure you check what cables it needs to work. Like the Raspberry Pi 4 I linked needs Microsoft HDMI to output video.

Once you have those basics set up and you have your pihole up and running, you can set up your blacklists. You can use the default one, but personally I like the one provided by the guys at Firebog. They have a LOT of amazing blacklists. From blocking purely ads. To ads and trackers. To even going as far as blocking Adult sites and such. There is a lot of customization you can do with your blacklists it’s amazing. Just, don’t expect it to block ads on youtube as those are hosted on the site itself.

Piholes are very set it and forget it, but make sure you are very thorough when setting one up. Because missing one step is such a headache to deal with. I also highly recommend, when it asks if you want to set up the web server, that you do. It allows you to see the traffic of what was blocked what was allowed, and update your lists and such from your web browser on your computer or phone.

Oh also, when you are setting up your pi-hole. Make sure you select to EITHER have it use Ethernet OR Wifi, NOT BOTH. That was a mistake I made. It used both, and got stuck and confused and wasn’t able to work at all. Once I deactivated the wifi and let it use only Ethernet, then it was good to go. And when you are selecting which PiHole OS you want to run, I HIGHLY recommend going with the Lite version. It’s purely Commandline OS, so it is super light and can run on anything. The GUI OS also works well but if you’re running it off of a weaker Raspberry Pi, it will be very laggy and an absolute bitch to do anything on.

So yeah, pi holes are a bit of a pain to set up, but once you are good, you are GOOD.

one of my favorite pregnancy things to think about is having your partner resting their head on your bump. it's such a soft thing. they want to be closer to the baby, to be able to hear them moving or feel their kicks against their face. it melts my heart even more when said partner decides to fall asleep cradling your belly with their head on the apex of your mound of a belly and watching as the baby shifts around, making their head move but still being asleep despite it all

Laying in bed with your partner and while they sleep they're just cuddled around your belly, one because its nice and warm, two because they want to keep you safe, and three because they love being close to the little one. Maybe they're usually active around the time y'all go to bed, so it's prime time to feel for kicks, let the baby listen to songs with their headphones (hell, maybe there's a playlist), and just talk to them, saying how much both of you love them and how excited y'all are to meet them! God, the domestic stuff always gets me i swear.

I enjoyed it! I was waiting for an indication that ed and stede had reunited in season 2 before I started watching and im glad i did that season 1 ending would have DEVASTATED me

I really was surprised how much I enjoyed the supporting cast, every crew member is really fun. Jim is obviously My Love, I want what they have, but Olu is also such a great character, and Lucius & Black Pete, who I thought I was gonna dislike from their early banter ended up being faves

Cold Medicine and Autoplay made it really easy to sit down and watch the whole thing in one sitting but I DO think I did myself a disservice not breaking it up into chunks. I'm curious about the supernatural elements that are being introduced??? DID BUTTONS REALLY TURN INTO A BIRD??? So many questions

I look forward to being able to actually understand all the meta stuff you reblog now instead of just reading it and nodding

Black Pete has such a great growth arc, I love him so much. And yeah, the end of season 1 is rough, you can see why it hit me in a particular way!

I may be less online for reblogging metas until the last three episodes are out, because I'm avoiding spoilers to deal with Le Anxiete, but after that: watch out :D

I love all the positivity about t4t, but sometimes people make generalizations about trans people only being into other trans people as a while or being down on relationships with cis people, and like. Actually my relationship with my cis bi bf has been incredible and healing and it's been amazing to see the similarities and differences in our struggles. Actually oppression isn't a monolith and in some ways he's faced more oppression than I have even though I'm trans bi and he's cis bi because people are more complicated than simple Oppression Olympics hierarchies. Actually being in a relationship with a cis person has it's own unique struggles and joys that aren't about whether the cis person is supportive. Actually cis partners absolutely can be supportive and loving to trans partners and that's a standard we should hold them to. Actually good cis queer men are a beloved part of my community

Like, I'm not going to comment on anyone's post because I realize a lot of people are just trying clumsily to be positive about something that's been helpful for them and to share their experiences. But you don't speak for me.
