I just watched Avatar for the first time all the way through, and yeah, it’s great, but the one thing that surprised me was how different Katara was compared to the fandom interpretation I’d seen and internalized before watching.
Like, before you watch Avatar, you’ve seen all these memes about Katara and her mom, and based on those memes, you assume it’s one of those lines you have to get used to hearing at least once every episode. But then you watch the show and realize that she only talks about her mom maybe five or six times per season and you also realize she only brings her up when she’s trying to comfort someone or empathize with them because that’s how she processes her grief and that’s one way she connects with people.
Tumblr media
Or you hear the infamous line, “then you didn’t love [our mother] the way I did” and you prepare yourself for one of the worst character assassinations ever only to see the scene after nearly three seasons worth of context and realize she was kinda right. She’s been the mother, the nurturer, the comforter. She’s been patient, gentle, and accommodating where everyone else has gotten to be insensible and reckless and childish, and the one moment where she allows herself to feel her grief, suddenly she’s this evil bitch and not, y’know, a 14 year old girl whose been thrusted into adulthood in a way no other character has. A 14 year old girl who should be allowed immaturity and raw emotion and anger instead of the patience and grace she’s been forced to extend to every character without even the smallest amount of gratitude or even consideration in return.
Tumblr media
Or you see all of the clips where Katara puts Aang in the “friendzone” and you expect to have this wishy washy back and forth where Aang is putting his feelings out there only to have Katara neither commit nor express any clear reciprocation or rejection. Then you watch and realize that, as cute as the ship is initially, that there’s never a point where Aang returns any comfort or grace to Katara despite her always doing this for him to the point of coddling. That for as much as Aang says he loves her, he never seems to outgrow his perception of her so he can recognize her as someone who feels grief, anger, and pain as much as she expresses love, kindness, and maturity. And instead of having moments where he learns to see her beyond her strength or compassion, you’re instead given moments where Aang forces his feelings onto her, both romantic and non-romantic, and Katara is expected to just…shoulder those feelings the way she shoulders everyone else’s.
Tumblr media
Katara is the most misunderstood character in the show. As much as people recognize the complexities of Zuko, Sokka, and Azula, they struggle to do the same for Katara because they see her struggles as somehow lesser, and therefore, less deserving of sympathy. They can handle her so long as she’s being endlessly patient and loving and kind, but the moment her endless love, patience, and kindness runs out, she’s suddenly this annoying bitch who can’t shut up about her mother or reciprocate Aang’s feelings. But Katara’s trauma does matter as much as anyone else’s. No, she wasn’t banished from her kingdom. No, she didn’t lose her entire community, and no, she isn’t the only one who lost her mother. But the difference between her and everyone else whose experienced loss because of the Fire Nation is that she’s never given time to process her trauma. Aang gets to lean on Katara constantly. Toph gets to express her feelings to Katara, and yeah, Sokka also lost their mother, but unlike Katara, he isn’t put in the position of being a substitute for everyone’s parent. He even admits that he sees his sister as a mother. The only characters who ever comfort Katara or allow her to vent is Zuko and her father and that’s, like, three scenes in a show where the other characters are consistently given opportunities to seek out Katara for unconditional support.
Tumblr media
The fandom interpretation of Katara has been so bastardized that even those who haven’t watched the show know her for this fanon version and not for who she is. She’s such an interesting character beyond her fandom limitations, though. She’s brave, hot-headed, and hopeful as well as gentle and caring. She wishes to learn waterbending, not only because she wants to fight in the war, but because she wants to continue her culture’s practices because, and people often forget this, she also lost an entire subculture within her already fractured tribe. And she wants to defeat the Fire Nation both because of her deep love and empathy for other people, but also because she wants to avenge her mother. But because some of the fans have reduced Katara to a bitch who constantly whines about her mother and friendzones Aang, you wouldn’t know any of this, and it sucks because she’s the only character whose been dumbed down to such an extent.

Some people need to replay rdr2 before writing Javier in fics because there's no way you think this awkward guy that doesn't talk much is some kind of don juan or latin lover or whatever fucking box you want to apply him to
Why can't y'all just keep his character reserved yet friendly, why do you want the hispanic man to be this experienced, passionate lover and sexually aggressive womanizer

So, in the cookbook, one recipe stands out to me
Tumblr media
This recipe is specifically Frank's, and they said it's a centerpiece. Centerpieces are supposed to be pretty and dazzling, right? Not eaten.
From Eddie's wiki:
Tumblr media
The single pea thing is related to eddie
Frank put it in jello for Eddie cause he thinks it's pretty :)

seeing everyone with different fandom pfps make fun of Hazbin Hotel, like the gangs all here
like we have Karkat, next to The Eleventh Doctor, next to Hatsune Miku, next to Zhongli, next to Jonathan Sims, next to Moriarty, next to Cure Macaron, next to Tony Stark, next to Madoka Kaname, next to The Once-ler, next to Castiel
and they’re all saying the same damn thing somehow

Jimmy might be The Canary but Grian is The Catalyst.
catalyst: a person or thing that precipitates an event.
(precipitates: cause (an event or situation, typically one that is undesirable) to happen suddenly, unexpectedly, or prematurely.)
This is something that I noticed while looking at Timmys deaths and last episodes. Grian is always in someway responsible for his death.
Spoilers for the entire Life series.
-> Third life:
The plan and the bunker used in the Attack of the Desert was designed by Grian.
•The reason Dogwarts attacked was because Grian and Scar stole their banner
•Grian tells him "Yeah, you can go into the bunker."
•The bunker in which he dies in because of his struggle of getting down the escape route in the bunker.
-> Last Life:
•The simplest one. Grian chases after Jimmy because Jimmy was trying to kill Grian and during that Jimmy falls and dies.
•The height Jimmy fell wasn't enough to kill a player but the previous damage by Grian's sword sealed his fate.
•(And Grian kills Mumbo seconds later)
->Double Life:
•We know Jimmy was killed by an enderman. But why was he even outside at night?
•Because he and the other reds just finished killing Grian and Scar for being the last greens.
•He was on his way back to the Ranch and there he was killed by an enderman.
-> Limited Life:
•Grian was the one to tell Joel to let Jimmy push the TnT minecart.
•"Let Tim do it. He needs the time." Direct quote from Grian, like, 3-5 seconds before Jimmy's death.
•Jimmy had about an hour left. He could have found another way to gain more time.
•(Still love the headcannon that either Grian or The Watchers pushed Jimmy off.)
-> Secret Life:
•Sure, Jimmy didn't die first but I would argue that the Curse didn't die. Also Grian is still responsible for Jimmy's death.
•Grian's and Etho's attempt at making the wither and the warden fight causes Jimmy's (and Mumbo's) death because they were trying to fight/flee form them.
The Canary warns other of the upcoming danger while The Catalyst is the cause of said danger.
Jimmy is called The Canary because everytime he dies thing get more deadly and chaotic afterwards. And what is Grian if not an agent of chaos. Especially after Jimmy dies and he turns red.

Spoilers for the Tales of the Tmnt teaser trailer (This me talking abt my thoughts and stuff I noticed ;)
With screenshots baby let’s go.
Tumblr media
I’m not comparing it to Rise, but it did give off a kind of vibe. Especially with how Leo holds his sword and Raph’s fond older brother stare.
I’m also really glad they got rid of Splinter’s whatever they were, it was a little distracting on his movie design for me so I’m glad they simplified it.
Tumblr media
I think this might be the establishing shot of like a news report about how much the public loves the turtles now. Which is crazy bc imagine being an unsocialized shut in teenager and suddenly you have hundreds of adoring fans.
Tumblr media
Ma’am 💀 ain’t no way this grown ass woman made that sign deadass. They really took notes on how some fans act abt the turtles that’s crazy.
Fame really does go crazy bc ain’t no way she seriously wants to be married to a crusty teenager.
Tumblr media
They’re gonna get their ass beat
Tumblr media
Come on now, what did he expect…he had enough sense to rip it off the wall but not throw it…
Lowkey kinda hope they get called into the principals office after this fight because of how much property damage they caused
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The art style is wild, but I particularly like these two frames of Raph because they go hard like look at that.
Also maybe a Raph barn fight???
Tumblr media
He did say he was gonna kick 🤷
I think this might be the final blow to the fight of the bots just because of how dramatic and center stage it is
Tumblr media
The robots, most likely sent by TCRI, seem to have different materials cobbled together. So either they’re shit at making robots or they’re repairing themselves.
Or someone else repaired them with junk, maybe Donnie.
And why number your bots? Shit tagging systems tbh
Tumblr media
April is saying like always. Though I do wonder if she’s wearing that little headband bc she’s trying to mimic aliens. It would be the right amount of cringe fail for her personally
Another thing I’m noticing is while everyone else got several shots, Donnie is only seen with a group and not by himself like his brothers are. I think this is just the pilot episode we’re seeing clips of so I’m not too judgy about it but I do wonder what the hell Donnie is doing that he can pitch in and help with the fight.
April we only see once, which is fair, again first episode. I really do hope they explore her character more than what we saw in the movie.
That’s all for now, let me know if I missed anything because you know I eat that up

I just realized something about My Adventures with Superman.
This is the first (I say first because I have no idea if it will still be the only by the time Gunn's version comes around) iteration of a Superman story that breaks one of the few major behind-the-scenes writing rules about introducing a new Superman story:
It doesn't start the show with either Krypton exploding or the Spaceship crashing.
All other reintroductions to a "new" or "different" version of Superman in the comics, the movies, or the TV shows, all start the story with either one of the two things. So much that you can argue it's as much as a trope as audiences seeing Uncle Ben die everytime Spiderman get revamped, or every Batman movie having to show us the damned blood-covered pearls in Crime Alley.
Just 8 simple words that explain it all
"Doomed Planet. Desperate Scientists. Last Hope. Kindly Couple."
So much so that comics even lampshade it when introducing evil Superman parallels like Ultraman.
Tumblr media
"Doomed Planet. Desperate Scientists. Last Hope. Duplicitous Bastards."
But My Adventures with Superman very noticeably don't do that, and that's very much by design because this version of Clark is meant to know nothing and so the showrunners and writers made it so that the audience is in the dark as much as Clark is.
And it works to a wonderful degree because this means the audience spends all of Episode 1 getting to know Clark Kent: Junior Reporter first. We learn the overgrown corn-fed dork who can fly and break sinks before we get a syllable of Kryptonese. We learn about Krypton's fate in Episode 2 as Clark learns about it, but this decision also goes on to do something spectacular.
It also goes to prime the audience that this story of Krypton is going to be different from the version of Krypton and Jor-El and Lara-Lor-Van most people know, and that becomes more and more prominent as the show goes on.
And the Krypton we see hints of is fucking scary!
Tumblr media
The show is going wholesale in subconsciously putting us in Clark's shoes because it plays with our familiarity and curiosity of what Krypton is like until we get to Episode 8: Zero Day and we see what the visions and codenames of Nemesis Omega and Zero Day mean. And it invokes the feeling of more dread and terror than hope of seeing any more Kryptonians, and that's without introducing us to the known Evil Kryptonians in the lore. (Zod, Ursa, Faora, Jax-Ur, etc.)
Starting with us not seeing Krypton exploding or the rocket ship that Moses'd him to Earth also later leaves the ambiguity of whether Clark truly has the title of Last Son of Krypton in the last episode climax and end-credit scene. It throws a lot of what we expect into flux while still staying true to the roots of the character at the same time, because it never confirms or denies anything. We're just left to speculate and flounder as Clark is.
That's just a wonderful example of how a story choice can have such a knock-on snowball effect that can pay off in establishing an atmosphere.
And it's all because they refrained from using a proven tried-and-true intro rule to do something new, like they do for a lot of the series.
And I just think that's neat.

One thing I've noticed since going back to New Vegas is that the world feels so full and alive right from the get go. From the Powder Gangers to the Mojave Outpost you really get a sense of how much history has occurred without you. Of how much the world is rebuilding.
Fallout 4 does also have that (especially when you spend a lot of time settlement building like I do) but the big difference is that it doesn't START that way. Until you make it to Diamond City, the world doesn't feel like it exists without the player in it.

The artificial light from the koi fish aquarium that exists outside this fall away wall midnights room + The fake windows with fake light in this room with no instruments where I imagine writers are locked inside to churn out the next lyric to be dissected. The grunt work business.
All of these rooms being spaces or compartments in her mind. The guitar and journals and empty bookshelf and crumpled paper is all that’s left behind in the midnights space. Almost like she did creative work here then took the best of that and walked over to the other room and finalized it in a marketable way.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also 2pm or 2am no one knows for certain if you believe the light is fake.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If midnights become her afternoons. Regardless of truth it’s tea time. And everyone agrees she’s the problem. This is all in her head. Fun theme
