she has a fascination with his teeth.
he’s always known it— from the first time they met, when he paid her his best, roguish smile, and her eyes drifted to the dangerous glint of his fangs.
this was, of course, seconds before she bolted, and for months he’d done his best to keep everything predatory about him hidden, including (especially) his teeth.
but now, even with her snuggled on his chest, content and dozing, he catches her gaze fixed on his mouth, the little indents his fangs purse into his bottom lip.
“I love you,” he murmurs, peering down at her, studying her. minutely, her eyes follow the motion of his canines.
she likes his lips, of course. he’s made sure of that. tongue, too. these were pleasureable things, though, flesh almost the same as hers. she’s comfortable with them. she recognizes them.
but his teeth are a foreign artifact, something that signifies the difference between them, a reminder of how alien he really is. they’ve always obsessed her, even before she loved him back, even when they disgusted her.
and he can’t help himself. he feels her heartbeat pick up, a gasp settle in her throat. he can smell the dread coiling around them both.
and she lets him. it’s one of the things he cherishes most about her— that he could do anything to her, and she would let him.
he lifts one of her delicate (human, god, so human) hands to his mouth. he kisses each of her knuckles, smiling when she sighs, warm and pliable.
he prises a single finger from her, gives it a languid, savoring lick. and with the gentlest, tenderest pressure, he presses a fang into the soft meat of her fingertip. not enough to break the skin, but enough to be a warning, he could. it would be so easy, so simple.
he meets her eyes, dilated, peering back at him.
in an instant, in the span of one of her rabbit-quick heartbeats, he could become the heinous, violent thing she feared him to be.
and yet— he smells her desire, too. beneath the anxiety is the luxurious scent of want. the braiding of these primal, sensuous sensations.
he’s teaching her: fear doesn’t negate the lust. in fact, sometimes they are the same thing.

charlie barber takes you home and makes you read to him after slipping you a roofie you literally get drugged he gives you a roofie and you pass out in his home he is not a good guy
You met him at Barbès, on the corner of ninth street and sixth avenue. He sat alone on the barstool closest to the wall. He was sipping on a negroni or maybe an americano, you couldn’t really tell.
Either way, you could smell fragrant orange peel on his breath as he moved to the stool next to you.
Unidentifiable instrumental jazz hummed in the background. The bass strings vibrated, mimicking the warm buzzing you felt in your chest.
“She’ll have a French 75.”
His voice rumbled deep in his throat as he waved down the bartender.
“I’m Charlie. Trust me, you’ll like it.” He assured you quickly.
You told him your name with stars twinkling in your eyes.
He easily piqued your interest with his dimpled cheeks and tales from his years working in the theatre.
The two of you talked softly in the corner of the bar until the early hours of the morning. Eventually, the lively jazz faded and patrons with flushed faces headed into the night air.
Your cheeks were warm and your stomach was fuzzy. “I don’t want to say goodbye yet.”
He lived in a brownstone not far from the bar. He charmed you with more fancy cocktails with delicate garnishes, even though you were already head over heels infatuated.
“Green Derby.” He told you the name of the drink before gently handing you the delicate coupe glass.
He led you to his personal library, it wasn’t huge, but it was cozy and crammed with books. He reclined into a large, leather armchair that sat in a corner where two bookshelves met.
You trailed the tips of your fingers across the shelves, stopping on a copy of Camus’ The Stranger.
“Of course you read Camus.” You marveled under your breath.
“What was that?”
You whipped your head around quickly. “Nothing.” You pressed your lips into a short smile.
“Why don’t you sit?” He asked, patting his khaki covered thigh. You didn’t think twice, gliding over to him with his book still in your hand. You perched yourself atop his solid thigh, unsure of where to place your hands or where to look.
“Relax,” he ordered, sliding his hand around your pretty waist. And you did.
You felt like the garnish of basil in your drink, floating atop an anise flavored cloud of absinthe that bubbled upwards and tickled the hairs on your arms.
You smiled and hummed happily, body warmed by the alcohol.
“Why don’t you read for me?”
“What?” You watched his lips move, but the sound didn’t catch up with you until a few seconds later.
“Read for me.” He smiled softly at you, so you complied. Your head felt a little bleary as you turned to the first page with one hand, other hand carefully holding your cocktail.
“M-Maman died today. Or yesterday maybe, I don’t know. I got a telegram from the home: Mother deceased. Funeral tomorrow-”
You stopped, closing your eyes and willing the room to still. Maybe it was the alcohol, maybe it was his thumb rubbing soft circles on your stomach.
“Charlie I’m not feeling so well, maybe I should go home.” You laughed, slightly perplexed at your sudden state.
“Keep going.” He encouraged from underneath the soft glow of the lamp. “You can do it.”
You swallowed. His hands burned your skin now. Your head was spinning and words were blurring together. He rubbed your hair between his thumb and forefinger. It’s like he was- he was playing with you. Your stomach churned.
“The- the, uhm, old people’s home is at Marengo, about eighty kilometers from A-Algiers, I’ll take the- I don’t, Charlie, I’m not quite sure what’s come over me.”
The room swirled together in your peripherals, and the last thing you saw was his sickeningly sweet smile. You fell backwards, but he quickly caught you, holding you up by your shoulders.
The coupe glass he had given you fell to the ground, stem snapping off as it met carpet. He frowned a little bit, he liked that one. He shrugged it off, he could deal with it later.
His other arm slid underneath your knees, your legs dangling over his forearm as he stood. He carried you down his hallway, careful not to bump your pretty, pretty head.

Add some tasty flavours to your curry with rare Indian Curry Spices
Indian cuisine is known for its complex and delicious flavours, and many of these tantalizing tastes come from rare spices. If you're looking for an authentic flavour experience or want to jazz up your curries, you'll be amazed by the range of these rare Indian curry spices. While some of these spices are more well-known than others, they all play an important role in Indian cuisine. As the popularity of Indian cuisine continues to grow, so does the appreciation for the various Indian curry spices used. Indian spices are known for their unique and flavourful taste. They range from mild to fiery, earthy to fragrant, and sweet to tangy. These spices combine to create some of the most delicious and satisfying dishes.
Types of Indian spices
Turmeric: Turmeric     is the most essential of all Indian curry spices. It has a     warm, slightly bitter taste and a bright yellow colour that can stain, so     be careful when handling it. Turmeric is often used in powder form, but     fresh turmeric root is also available at some specialty stores.
Cumin: Cumin     is another key ingredient in many Indian dishes. It has a nutty, earthy     flavour and can be used whole or ground. Cumin is usually roasted before     being used, which brings out its flavour even more.
Cardamom: Cardamom     is one of the pricier Indian curry spices. It has a sweet,     floral flavour perfect for rounding out the other tastes in a dish.     Cardamom pods can be found whole or ground; remove the seeds before using     them!
Cinnamon: Cinnamon     might not be what you first think of in Indian cuisine, but it's quite     common in curries and other dishes. It has a warm, sweet flavour that     pairs well with sweet and savoury ingredients.
Asafoetida: Asafoetida     is a strong-smelling spice used as a flavouring agent in many Indian     curry spices. It is available in powder or granulated     form.
Cloves: Cloves     are a strong, intense spice that flavours many Indian dishes. They are     available whole or ground.
Fennel     Seeds: Fennel seeds are sweet and     anise-flavoured seeds used to flavour many Indian dishes. They are     available whole or ground.
Ginger: Ginger     is a hot and spicy root commonly used in Indian cooking. It is available     fresh, ground, or pickled.
Recipes with Indian curry spices
Spicy Curry     with Fenugreek: This dish is made with fenugreek     seeds with a strong flavour that can be bitter. If you like your curries     on the spicy side, this one is for you.
Kashmiri     Chicken Curry: This curry gets its unique flavour     from Kashmiri chillies, milder than other chilli peppers. The result is a     delicious, slightly sweet curry perfect for a winter night.
Bengali Fish     Curry: This recipe features mustard seeds,     which give the curry a sharp, spicy flavour. This one is worth trying if     you're looking for something different from your usual fish curry.
Conclusion
Indian curry spices are also known for their health benefits, as many contain anti-oxidants, anti-inflammatory properties, and other beneficial compounds. Indian spices are a great way to enhance the flavour and nutrition of any dish, and they can be used in various combinations to create unique and flavourful meals. Indian curry spices from Curry Traders Australia are a great way to add flavour and nutrition to any dish, and they are sure to delight the palate of anyone lucky enough to have them.

💕🫂🕯Lockdown/covid/quarantine depression, anxiety protection spell jar/bottle🕯🫂💕
So I’ve been struggling a lot with my mental health recently due to lockdown and quarantine so I looked to seeing if there was any spells or spell jars/bottles for that particular thing, however I couldn’t find any so I thought I’d try my hand at making my own and sharing it to try and help others who are feeling like this. 💕
✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
Okay so I recently learnt that that you should cleanse your jars and bottles before use so I did that and then started to add all the herbs and corresponding spices that I could find that could help and put them in the bottle, verbally and mentally repeating the intent I wanted from that specific herb or spice. I don’t know if you have to do that but I did it anyway.
So as I said, I literally picked out everything that pretty much corresponds to protection and mental well-being and all that jazz so some of these probably aren’t needed so you can edit and take out or put in what you want, it doesn’t have to be spot on! In my one I didn’t add basil because I didn’t have any but I kept it on for people who want to add it.
🌱Anise- wards of evil eye, find happiness
🌱Basil- protection, dispels fears and weakness
🌱Dill- protection
🌱Marjoram- cleanse, purify, dispel negative energy
🌱Oregano- corresponds with joy, strength, vitality, energy
🌱Parsley- calms and protects the home
🌱Thyme- attracts loyalty, affection and the good of others (I added this for not feeling alone and for people to wait for you till after lockdown and to add comfort.)
🌱Black pepper- dispels evil
🌱Sea salt- protection
🌱Cinnamon- protection
🌱Orange peel- emotional peace
🌱Rosemary- for mental power and clarity, protection, cleanse, purify
🌱Sage- self purification, peace, helps with loss and grief (I personally applied this to the loss of my social life and the grief of not seeing my friends, but also my dads death too as that has been on my mind. So just know it doesn’t have to be grief in the literal dead person sense.)
🌱Pink Himalayan salt- self love
✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
I personally sealed mine with red wax for strength but you can seal it with whatever wax matches for you. (Also sealing with wax can be optional I think.)
I sealed it whilst repeating-
I am protected
I am safe
The negative energy will leave this place
Depression won’t stick
Depression won’t stay
The anxiety and fear will go away
I will be okay
I won’t fall into the dark
Lockdown will not ruin me
It will not leave its mark
✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
Hope this helps someone who needs it and please know you are not alone in this. 💕🫂

Dominic Miller. Absinthe, 2019. ECM 2614. (  Manu Katché )    ~  [ Album Review |     1) ECM Reviews  +  2) All About Jazz  +   3) London Jazz News ]
1) The title of Absinthe, Dominic Miller’s follow-up to his 2017 ECM debut, Silent Light, harks to the early French Impressionists, whose all-in dedication to art is a philosophical touchpoint for the guitarist. To carry on that spirit, he could hardly have asked for a more eclectic yet integrated band. Bandoneon player Santiago Arias brings a sense of cross-continental shift that makes the world just a little smaller; keyboardist Mike Lindup adds a sometimes-surreal vibe that’s equal parts cry from the past and message from the future; bassist Nicolas Fiszman is the soil to Miller’s sunlight; and drummer Manu Katché, a remarkable impressionist in his own right, is time incarnate.
With such a massive scale to be reckoned with in theory, one might expect the results to be overpowering, when in practice the melodic, harmonic, and rhythmic content is so evenly distributed between pans that by the end of each tune we’re left on an even keel from where we began. This is nowhere so true as on the opening title track, which spins a steady downtempo groove from the filaments of Miller’s solo introduction. The way his bandmates shuttle through the greater loom of the album’s concept is as intuitive as the compositions yearning for consummation. A certain feeling of inward travel continues in all that follows.
The quiet locomotion of “Mixed Blessing” and is as progressive as the tender “Christiana” is regressive, the geometrically inflected “Étude” as inviting as the open-ended charm of “Ombu,” the melancholy “Ténèbres” as dark as the transparent “Saint Vincent” is bright. The latter bears dedication to the late Cameroonian guitarist Vincent Nguini, a longtime collaborator with Paul Simon and something of a mentor for Miller. Even without such biographical details, these stories write themselves, unhidden, in real time. Binding their pages are shorter pieces, including the piano-rich “Verveine” and the haunting “La Petite Reine.” Into these we are afforded only fleeting glimpses, personal tesseracts whose potential for transfiguration can only be expressed in song.
All of which makes “Bicyle” quintessential in the present milieu. Its pedaling motion is more than a metaphor; it’s an actualization of life’s unstoppable flow. For there, woven between each spoke like a playing card, memories fade into new experiences, squinting into the glare of a setting sun as the world curls into slumber.
2) Guitarist Dominic Miller's 2017 ECM debut Silent Light was a low key affair that focused on his solo classical guitar (plus a bit of light percussion). The sequel features a full quintet with a rhythm section. A bigger sound, but with a similar impressionistic flavor. Miller's liner notes make that visual art reference explicit: as a resident of the south of France he has become fascinated with the French Impressionist painters, admiring their artistic daring.
The album opens with the title tune: Miller's acoustic guitar and drummer Manu Katche's swirling cymbals set the scene for the entry of Santiago Arias' bandoneon, the primary melodic instrument in the music. It is a significant new timbral color in the ensemble, as well as a nod to the avowed Argentinian influence in Miller's music. "Mixed Blessing" includes a synthesizer solo from keyboardist Mike Lindup, a contrasting sound that is favored throughout the set; although on "Étude" his piano playing is a foundational element.
The spare, low rumbling drums and guitar of "La Petite Reine" recall the sound of Silent Light. "Étude" and "Ombu" step up the tempo a bit, and the latter gives the drums a highlighted role as active rhythmic accompaniment for the whole band: no doubt very satisfying for Katché fans who have been waiting to hear him cut loose. Closer "Saint Vincent" is an upbeat tune that features the whole band, with solos from Miller and Lindup (on piano).
Miller has an expanded musical concept to go with the larger band. The tunes are still compact statements, but make use of the instrumental forces for greater timbral contrast. And he is a generous band leader as well: while his guitar is at the center of the arrangements, all of the players are given a chance to shine. It will be interesting to see where he goes next.
3) Absinthe is Argentinian-born guitarist Dominic Miller’s second release for ECM and his fourteenth solo album. The list of recordings with other people, however, is immense. Even if his name is unfamiliar you have probably already heard him. He has played with Sting since The Soul Cages in 1991 and masses of other musicians along the way, from The Chieftains to Youssou N’Dour, via Tina Turner, Lesley Garrett, Sarah Jane Morris and Manu Dibango. Some of the musicians with whom he has recorded make up the new quintet for this album.
Absinthe is an airy, atmospheric set of compositions inspired by Miller’s love of the works of the Impressionist artists, many of whom painted in the South of France where he now lives. The title came to him first, apparently – many of the impressionists drank absinthe, that potent anise-based spirit favoured by bohemians known as “la fée verte”. In a recent interview with German news site DW.com, Miller expands on the title:
“For me it’s about being out of it. And over the last few years I’ve really been into French paintings and thinking about this history of the early 19th century and how Lautrec and Van Gogh and a lot of these guys were tripping on absinthe but still coming up with amazing work. And because they were such highly skilled artists they could come up with these really outrageous trippy concepts with colour.”
Miller put together a quintet sympathetic to his ideas and wrote the music with the “sonic palettes” of his chosen musicians in mind. First up is young Argentinian Santiago Arias who studied under Dino Saluzzi at the Conservatoire in Buenos Aires. He plays the bandoneon, that concertina-like instrument associated with Argentinian tango. His sound is pure and extremely melodic. The combination of Miller’s lyrical guitar with Arias’ lovely lines is delightful – they are the perfect foil for each other. The other three musicians have all played with Miller for years.
On keyboards is Englishman Mike Lindup, best known for his work with Level 42, but a regular performer with Miller, who played with Level 42 himself back in the 80s. Lindup’s is a third melodic voice with the guitar and bandoneon – he also adds delicate ethereal tones, almost theremin-like in places.
On bass is Belgian Nicolas Fiszman. He studied guitar with Philip Catherine, then changed to bass. He’s played with Miller since 2005, but has accompanied Johnny Halliday, Angelique Kidjo, and Charles Aznavour in his time. Miller describes his playing and intonation as having “the nobility of a great whale”, which is a lovely description and also, I think, fair enough. His subtle and discreet bass underpins the whole endeavour.
Miller describes French percussionist Manu Katché as “an artist on the drums, especially with his cymbal work where he is like a great painter”. His presence is everywhere on this recording, and his contribution adds colour, as well as texture to the pieces. Katché is well-known as a session musician – having played with almost everybody. He’s also an ECM veteran. Miller has recorded with Katché as part of his band, and he’s another long-serving member of Sting’s band, so they know each other musically very well.
It’s an unconventional combo, but it works well – the range of timbres and harmonies is extremely agreeable. There’s an Argentinian tinge to much of the music, though think Gotan Project, rather than Astor Piazzolla, as there is a groove through many of the tunes, not just from Katché’s inventive percussion but the rhythmic qualities of the ensemble playing. On an initial hearing the CD appeared light and easy, bar some disjunct improv in the track Ombu, but this is misleading. I think that the limpid clarity of the production (by Manfred Eicher himself), the pleasant atmosphere, the sweetness of tone and the downright prettiness of the guitar and bandoneon sound just gives that impression. As is often the case with music which can be perceived as light or suave, like bossa nova, for example, on a closer listen, the complexity of the composition and the beauty of the ensemble playing comes through.
From the first track Absinthe, where the bandoneon, after a precise harmonious intro, starts sliding about into little patches of dissonance, and the spectral notes from the synthesiser twist around against a backdrop of precise strings and strangely colourful cymbal sounds, the listener is entranced. By the final track, Saint Vincent (presumably a reference to Van Gogh rather than the countless catholic saints, or indeed the American singer/songwriter of the same name) the sonic palette has been fully explored. Miller’s guitar playing is wonderful throughout, lyrical, deft and harmonious. Saint Vincent builds in layers of colour and light to a Pat Metheny-esque crescendo and then disappears as if blown away by the mistral.
This record will appeal to Miller fans, to Sting fans, to existing fans of any of the other members of the band, and to new listeners who are already aficionados of ECM’s fine output of chamber music. As usual, I now want to hear this live, and indeed a grand promotional tour for Absinthe of Central and South America, and Northern Europe was planned. Sadly it has had to be cancelled for health reasons. Wishing Dominic Miller a speedy recovery.

A Tincture for Love
This tincture can be used for both love spells and self love rituals; basically for all of your ‘love’ needs. However, this is not meant to drink. This can be used externally or used to anoint candles and/or any other magickal implements. As always, feel free to subtract any ingredients based off of what you have on hand, intent always is more powerful than any herb. You can also add whatever you please as well, make it work for you. You can bless it however you may like, use it however you want because I’m obviously not stopping you. You do you.
So let’s begin!
-Red wine (of course if you are not of age and you can’t purchase red wine or you don’t have free reign of your parents’ liquor cabinet, please skip this step. In fact, lemon juice is just as appropriate for this spell because it is just as commonly used for spells of affection or as an aphrodisiac.... if that is your intent. I do in fact add a few drops of it to this tincture if I have red wine on hand anyway because citrus is quite powerful in these types of spells)
-Alcohol (to keep herbs from going spoiled and moldy; the last thing you want is to wait a whole nine week release period only to find that this brew has gotten toxic and yucky without your knowledge. Red wine truly won’t have enough alcohol content)
-Lavender (feel free to use either the herb or the oil for this)
-Rosemary (also feel free to use oil as well)
-Basil
-Rose petal (any color will do depending on your intent; darker the rose, richer the affections shall be. But if I were you, you can never folly with pink!)
-Rose quartz (this totally optional but if you want to add some gemstone mojo, just make sure stones are charged, cleansed, and blessed)
-Patchouli (never fails me!)
-Perovskia; AKA the Russian sage. (This herb has the same physical and magickal properties of both sage and lavender. A two and one magickal deal. An herbal BOGO. It can suffice for either or if you just so happen to come across it in a garden or in a local greenhouse. It grows by my house, but I know it is sold in most flower/plant shops. It is great for smudging.)
-Lilac
-Ginger
-Thyme (Let no man steal your thyme darling!)
-Cinnamon
-Hibiscus
-Nutmeg
-Anise
-Jasmine
-Vanilla, honey, and/or sugar (for sweetness uwu)
And anything else you feel the need to add! Orange peel, berries, fruit, a favorite fragrance, different herbs! Go ahead, I myself tried to include what I believe to be some of the most accessible herbs. Most of you new witches or broom closeted beauties likely have a few of these already in your home. Again, if intention is there, do not worry about missing herbs, use what you feel will suffice for your current situation. Harm to none, do as you wish.
Now, if you are like me and like to tuck in your tinctures all nice and cozy to further protect them, wrap them in pink or red cloth (silk is always ideal). Silk especially is known to catch negative forces and unwanted energies, protecting magickal tools while in storage. Many use silk, linen, or other fabric to protect tarot cards or crystals when not in use. Color merely is for intent and in this case, our intent is love; either to yourself or from others. This step is totally optional.
Store our little brew for around 9 weeks (utilizing 3 by 3 always strengthens any spell) or for a lunar cycle (which is around four weeks). Don’t possess that amount of time? Store for however long you feel your herbs need to release their power or if you feel as though your intentions have been well pondered on, but not for too short of a time period.
 Herbs gotta brew, darlin’!
If you are thinking of attracting one certain mate in particular, write their name on a piece of paper or on the jar or even place the paper in the jar to really jazz things up a bit. As long as it is stored in the same vicinity as your tincture. Like wrapping the paper in the cloth with the jar if it isn’t in the tincture or labeled on the container.
Yeah.
Finally, you may bless  your tincture using the following, which is a pretty commonly used tincture blessing that I had picked up from The Good Witch’s Guide:
“I call upon the powers of green, release powers unseen. Herbs awakened on this day, may blessings in this tincture stay!”
Always thank the herbs and the Earth for providing you with their magick!!
thanks
uwu
You did it, with patience of a saint (or at least practicing so)! After the treacherous journey of waiting for our lovely little tincture, strain the liquid with a cheesecloth and you may store likewise in the cloth before. Add a bit of celestial mojo by letting her bathe in moonlight for a night before use and voila! Your hard work has paid off, use as you wish.
yours truly,
-B.

Writing Ask Games
Tagged by @papersky-pencilstars thank you!
I’m using my current WIP Stars in the Dark
1. Describe the plot in one sentence.
Hemlock is hired to kill a prince but doesn’t anticipate the bodyguard being competent, while Fox walks a fine line between creatively interpreting his orders and outright treason - emotions ensue.
2. Pick one sight, smell, sound, feel, and taste to describe the aesthetic of your novel.
Brilliant jewel tones painting scalloped arches in sandstone and marble
“cinnamon and anise and paprika and tomatoes mellowing in rich coconut milk”
a folk song and lullaby being sung in chorus as the hymn of a mischievous goddess-fox
the shock and pain of falling onto a very hard surface
chilled pomegranate and desert pear mead on the first day of spring
3. Which 3+ songs would make up a playlist for the novel?
Yellow Flicker Beat - Lorde
Collide - James Bay
Did You Hear the Rain? - George Ezra
4. What’s the time period and location in which the novel takes place.
:))) Time period is sort of nebulous? It’s sort of medieval, and but things like pin-and-tumbler locks exist. As for the location, it’s split between Mahjuren and Kinan. Mahjuren is heavily influenced by Mughal India, Persia, and North Africa, but the climate is more temperate with deciduous oak forests and marshlands, but also monsoons don’t @ me I know it doesn’t make sense it’s fantasy okay? Kinan is an archipelagic kingdom, very much tropical, with a strong Southeast Asian flavor, but with blue everything everywhere.
5. Is this a standalone or a part in a series?
It’s a standalone! And also technically like... the prequel for a different solo novel set in the same universe but far into the future when all the sovereign states in SitD have either fallen or morphed into something new.
6. Are there any former titles you’ve considered but discarded?
Fox and Flower. It’s technically not actually a title, just a placeholder, but it has a nice ring to it. I would have used it if not for the fact that I have an aversion to using character names in fantasy titles.
7. What’s the first line of your novel?
‘Hemlock flattened himself into the alcove, chest heaving as he caught his breath.’
8. What’s a dialogue you’re particularly proud of?
Oh man, there’s so many snippets ugh.
There’s this bit:
"I don't know, you could at least pretend to care."
Something like anger flickered in his eyes, but it didn't reach the rest of his face. "All I ever do is care," Fox said, his voice almost flippantly cool. "To do otherwise would be treason, and I'm not eager to die."
"You're unbelievable," Lilac scoffed.
"Would you like it better if I said that very little matters more to me than his well-being?" Fox offered, his tone mocking. "That I've come to see him as my younger brother and I would gladly betray his father if it meant keeping him safe? Is that satisfactory?"
"Why are you like this?"
Or:
"You're such a bastard."
"Indeed I am," Fox said, still smiling. He brushed his fingertips against Hemlock's arm as he stood up from the pallet. "I'll be going now."
"Goodnight, traitor."
"Sleep well, murderer."
Or or this one, which I used as my back-cover quote:
Lilac let her shoulders drop and turned back around to face him. "What's the catch?"
"No catch. I know what a gilded cage it is to serve the crown," Fox said. "I don't believe in caging pretty birds to make them sing on command."
"And what about dangerous animals?"
Fox shrugged. "There is nothing more pathetic than a tiger that has been beaten into submission."
Lilac raised a skeptical brow. "And is that what you are?"
Fox met her gaze with a shake of his head. "I'm just a dog on a leash," he said. "I do as I'm ordered."
9. Which line from the novel most represents it as a whole?
"That doesn't make it taste any less bitter," Fox said, his voice low and cold, "when you offer me the honor of being your second, as if it wasn't always my fucking birthright to stand as your equal."
10. Who are your character faceclaims?
SO here’s the thing: I’ve tried. I’ve TRIEEED to find good photo references for my characters.... but they’re all PoC and darker skinned except Fox, who is still not... pale, per se. Which is a big fucking issue because it’s impossible to find decent photos of a young South Asian man with no beard, or a young Southeast Asian man who doesn’t just look like a kpop idol (which is NOT to say that they all look the same, because they don’t, it’s just that they have a uniformly  p a l e  aesthetic; also he’s not Korean). HOWEVER, I found one really good reference for Lilac:
Tumblr media
Lilac is a few shades darker with curly hair, and her eyes are brown, not green, but otherwise she looks very much like this.
11. Sort your characters into Harry Potter houses!
Hemlock - Hufflepuff
Fox - Slytherin
Remin - Ravenclaw
Lilac - Slytherin
Tayali - Slytherin
Vermil - Gryffindor
Bonus side characters:
Xuan - Hufflepuff
Liem - Slytherin
Fern - Gryffindor
Clem - Hufflepuff
12. Which character’s name do you like the most?
Fox and Xuan!
13. Describe each character’s daily outfit.
Hemlock - black hooded vest over a dark shirt, plain-woven linen pants tucked into sturdy leather boots, knives tucked eveywhere. so many knives.
Fox - finely made dark cotton shirts with embroidery on the collar and cuffs under a sturdier vest with matching embroidery on the chest panels, black twill pants, black leather bracers and low-necked boots.
Remin - a brocade shalwar kameez with goldwork and pearl buttons, silk pants and a coordinating sash around his waist, kidskin shoes.
Lilac - a cotton choli with intricate embroidery and a matching lehenga, slippers with beadwork and tiny mirrors, a few bangles and sometimes earrings but no necklaces when she’s working.
Tayali - prior to her defection, the same as Fox. afterwards, loose-fitting shirts fashioned out of colorful batiks and ikats - or adire if she can find it, long pants gathered below the knee, the same low-necked boots from her days as a Black Knife, a delicate-looking necklace with an iridescent steel spider pendant.
Vermil - similar to Remin, but even more ornately embroidered, a dress saber slid into a knotted sash, knee-high boots.
Xuan - an airy silk áo dài in various shades of blue and painted or embroidered with waves or flowers or birds, a matching khăng đóng, a silver bib necklace, heeled silk shoes with silver bird wings embroidered on the toes.
14. Do any characters have distinctive birthmarks/scars?
Fox has an x-shaped scar on his cheek, Hemlock has a thin slash on his cheek, and both have multiple scars on the rest of their bodies. Lilac has a birthmark on her upper thigh. Tayali has scars similar to Fox’s but none visible while clothed.
15. Which character most fits a character trope?
Vermil is pretty “evil king” but I’m trying to give his character some more depth than that.
16. Which character is the best writer? Worst?
Remin is both a good and straight up awful writer. He’s great at academic writing and diplomatic missives, so unfathomably bad at love letters. Other than him, I would say Lilac or Xuan are the best writers, and Hemlock is probably the worst.
17. Which character is the best liar? Worst?
Fox is the best liar, Remin is the worst.
18. Which character swears the most? Least?
Hemlock swears most! He drops f-bombs left and right (altho not in the text bc I’m trying to keep things YA-friendly). Remin swears least because of his ingrained manners.
19. Which character has the best handwriting? Worst?
Remin has very proper penmanship with perfect curlicues and all that jazz. Fox has really pretty handwriting that’s flowy and sort of spidery but still easy to read. Hemlock’s handwriting is the worst comparatively, but it’s not actually bad. It’s just very plain and straightforward.
20. Which character is most like you? Least like you?
Personality-wise I’m most like Hemlock, but culturally I’m v much Fox. Diaspora, homesick for my mother country, bilingual etc.
21. Which character would you most like to be?
I think I’d like to be one of the non-field Spiders. I would just craft things for them to use or help forge documents.
I tag @issun-boshi @longsightmyth and @spaceshipkat (it’s laini). Feel free to join in even if I haven’t tagged you, and tag me so I can see your answers!

UK Avengers Pt 8
Pairing: Bucky Barnes x Reader
Summary: The eighth part in a series pt 1, pt 2, pt 3, pt 4, pt 5, pt 6, Pt 7
Requested: No
James’ house was big and the room I was staying in, the room I always stayed in when I visited, overlooked the wide, green garden. There was a Juliet balcony that looked over it on the wall facing the garden, a bookcase on the wall opposite the bed and two dog beds next to the bed, for Max and Toby.
Pictures adorned the walls, showcasing my whole childhood. For as long as I could recall, I had been staying in this very room to get away from my parents. So much so, that I basically moved in.
When I was seventeen, for the better part of two months, I did actually live with James and his family. I had run away from home, desperately needing an escape from my father. I had been welcomed with open arms and, even after I returned to living with my family, I kept lots of my clothes in the room in James’ house so that I could easily return should I need to.
Now, sat on a beanbag in the room, the doors to the balcony opened, a sense of serenity washed over me as I looked out into the garden and saw Janie playing on the grass with her father.
“Room for one more?” I turn and smile at Stefie.
“Always,” I respond, shuffling over on the beanbag and allowing her to sit down next to me. She passes me a glass of iced lemonade and I mumble a thanks, taking a sip of it.
“Janie and Mum were so excited when you said you were coming home,” she tells me and I shrug.
“I always mean to visit more,” I admit and she nods.
“You’re busy, Y/N/N, saving the world and all that jazz,” I chuckle wryly at her words, shaking my head.
“Not been doing much of that recently,” I admit and Stefie turns her full attention to me. I blush under her gaze, looking down at my lemonade for means of distraction. “There was this guy...”
“Do tell,” Stefie presses, a shit-eating grin on her face as she waits for the details. I playfully nudge her shoulder with mine, before recounting my relationship with Bucky.
I finish up and there are tears in my eyes. Stefie doesn’t hesitate to hug me tightly.
“What a prick,” she says but I shake my head, sniffing a little.
“He wasn’t, though, that was the issue. He wasn’t a prick, he was lovely,”
“And that made it worse,” Stefie finishes my train of thought and I nod, sniffing once more. Toby nuzzles against my hand affectionately, looking to comfort me. “Would you have done the same?” She asks me and I look at her, surprised.
“What do you mean?”
“If put in the same position. If Moss asked you to provide intel on the Avengers, exploit their weaknesses, or if Maria asked you to. Would you do it?” I look at her, considering for a moment.
“I mean, I wouldn’t date one of them to get the information,” I offer and Stefie rolls her eyes at that.
“But you’d do it,”
“I’d have to. I owe Moss and Maria so much,” I say with a shrug before I realise what she means. “Ohhhhh, yeah I get you,” I say and Stefie huffs a little laugh at that.
“But it’s okay, if you don’t want to realise that yet, then I’m more than willing to reinforce the fact that Bucky was an absolute twat,” I laugh at that, and they increase when Janie frowns up at her mum from the garden.
“Swear jar, Mummy,” she says and I nudge Stefie in the ribs.
“Naughty, naughty.” I chide and she gives me a playful slap on the leg.
“Alright, come on, it’s almost time for tea,”
A few days later, the day after Stefie’s birthday, I was playing with Janie in the garden when the doorbell rang. Killian groaned but stood up, walking into the house. Everyone was outside because it was such a lovely day, not a cloud in sight.
James’ mother had fallen asleep reading, Stefie was doing some work on her laptop, Killian had been doing the same and then Janie, James’ father and I were playing on the grass, Toby and Max watching, clearly wanting to join in but seeming fearful of hurting the young girl.
“Y/N! It’s for you,” I pulled a face, standing up, much to Janie’s dismay. She hung onto me like a monkey and I giggled at her actions, pulling her up so that she was resting on my side like a koala.
I carried her inside the house to the hallway and froze.
“Auntie Y/N/N, who’s that?” Janie asked, pointing to the man.
“That’s Bucky, sweetheart,” I say quietly, placing her down on the floor.
“Who’s Bucky?” Janie asks innocently, still clutching at my leg, clearly not noticing the growl that Max had started upon seeing the assassin.
“How about you go and play with Grandpa again, yeah?” I say, not leaving room for argument. Janie frowned, clearly unhappy by my lack of an answer but backing down the hallway and out through the open back door.
Bucky looked rough, he was unshaven, his hair was straggly and his blue eyes were void of life as he looked at me with slumped shoulders.
“It’s too hot to be wearing a coat,” I comment, leaning against the wall.
“Not used to England being hot,” Bucky responds, his eyes scanning over me, a sad, distant look in his eyes.
“How’d you find me?” I asked, moving my hand down to scratch  my leg. Bucky’s eyes follow my every movement.
“Believe it or not-”
“Oh, wow, I’m getting a choice now?” I cut in, unable to resist the easy quip.
“Bad choice of words,” Bucky admits, scratching the back of his neck. “Maria told me,” he says finally and my eyes widen a little at his words.
“Seriously?”
“Yeah,” he says, a light laugh escaping him. “I was surprised too,” he adds as almost an afterthought.
“I’m surprised she let you into the compound at all,” I tell him and he looks down, wounded by my words.
“I deserved that,” he admits and I roll my eyes.
“Yeah, no kidding,” Bucky huffs a laugh. “What do you want Bucky?”
“I wanted to talk,”
“You stalk girls when you want to talk to them?”
“Only when it’s you,” he responds straight away and I quirk an eyebrow at him. “That sounded sweeter in my head,” I laugh at that, shaking my head.
“Good to know you haven’t changed in the slightest,” I offer and he smiles.
“I’m not sure if that was meant as a compliment but I’m going to take it as one,” I smile at his words, wishing that my heart would remain still.
“I’ll give you five minutes, Bucky,” I concede, remembering Stefie’s words from a few days ago.

Growing up without her father, though she wasn't entirely sure the man knew she existed, Anise Mora could take comfort in few things. 1. Her mentor: Black Canary. 2. Her partner, and best friend: Josie, also known as Mirage. 3. Her cousin: Jack. But, after Josie goes missing out of the blue, she's left scrambling through life as one change after another comes at her. She gets involved in an alien war, and a covert operations team run by Batman himself. The boy she's spent the last two years pining over is finally starting to notice her. Her father comes stumbling into her life, and she has no idea how to talk to him. It wasn't often that Anise was at a loss for what to do. She always had a plan. But she also always knew the variables in her life. Now she has to figure it out as she goes. Disclaimer: I don't own anything besides Anise.
