simple negative energy capture spell jar
hello! this is a spell from my bos that i typed out today, and thought i'd share with all of you.
it's a basic energy capture jar. what it does is it takes negative energy that hits it and absorbs it into the jar, keeping a space safe. it can be considered to be a type of ward.
feel free to modify this to your needs! if you try it, let me know how it goes in the notes.
ingredients
a jar or bottle of your choosing
a small mirror to go on top of the jar (i prefer aluminum foil, but either works)
a binding sigil, either handmade or sources from someone else
obsidian for protection
basil for attracting negativity to the jar (and not you)
cinnamon for protection and defense
mugwort for a magical boost
hyssop for purifying the captured negative energy
st. john's wort to handle the negativity
dandelion for added protection
a black candle
optional: mullein, acrimony
steps
create, print, or copy down your sigil. assemble other ingredients and perform any pre-spell rituals you have.
place ingredients into the jar. you can select the order, or you can do it like this: cinnamon, basil, st. john's, dandelion, hyssop, mugwort.
as you place each ingredient into the jar, visualize your intent for it. you can also speak an affirmation such as "this jar will protect me" if you wish.
fold your sigil thrice away from you, tucking it in the jar, and following it with your crystal.
pop the cork, lid, or seal on the jar.
seal JUST the edges with the candle, and place the mirror in the center of the closing contraption.
et voila, you're done! place it wherever you need that protection.
notes
i'm autistic and selectively mute, so i usually don't speak during my spells, focusing more on intention. this is something you can modify.
i would rate this an 8/10. it's a good basic protection jar, and you don't need anything too extensive for protections unless someone is after you or something anyway.
anyway, i hope that's helpful to someone! if you have comments, suggestions, etc., do let me know. part of what i miss about old witchblr is the open dialogue that used to be spread on posts; people don't talk enough now. so feel free to come talk to me, and if you have improvements, i'm all ears!
thank you for your time.

A Spell Bottle for Big Al
This spell is dedicated to my boyfriend @mikk1n, who introduced me to the world of Walking with Dinosaurs and its various sub-series. The BBC walked with dinosaurs so that Prehistoric Planet could run.
outdated illustration of an allosaurus from Dinosaur National Monument, by the United States' National Park Service
Anyway...
This spell calls upon the power of the Allosaurus jimmadseni specimen identified as MOR 693—however, this fossilized creature is more commonly known as “Big Al” thanks to an imagining of his life’s story being told via a BBC television program in the year 2000. (The Ballad of Big Al was a Christmas special for the popular Walking with Dinosaurs series, and it can be watched legally on the Internet Archive—part one is here and part two is here).
Big Al’s bones currently live in the Geological Museum of the University of Wyoming in the United States (see his exhibit here), but when re-watching his story with my boyfriend late at night I was struck by the depiction of his life. Although I’m not happy with a multitude of the narrative choices that the writers made—my ire is primarily directed at the massive time skips of multiple years and the overall rushed brevity of the story—what really stuck with me was how realistic it felt.
Now, I’m not talking about the depictions of the dinosaurs or the quality of the practical and special effects; science and technology have marched steadily onward since the year 2000, and what we know now puts our prehistoric knowledge from 20+ years ago to shame. That can’t be helped. What I’m really saying is that so much of Big Al’s depicted life was spent searching for food, failing to acquire it, and ultimately dying of starvation… because of a broken toe. Yes, he was an apex predator of his era, but the show is very careful to point out how much his life teetered on the knife’s edge of his physical prowess as a predator—although he healed from a variety of injuries and illnesses throughout his less than a decade of life, ultimately Big Al was brought down by a broken bone that developed a fatal infection and rendered him unable to hunt.
While Big Al failed to reached adulthood, that doesn’t mean you have to do the same thing. This spell is designed to create part of the spirit of Big Al into an animal ally (if you’re not from an indigenous culture that incorporate usage of totems or spirit animals, please don’t use those terms) to aid you in your own efforts toward continuing to survive whatever troubles currently plague you.
Method
Now, the sky’s the limit for what you can ask Big Al’s spirit for help with. However, my own witchy intuition (aka UPG) says that an allosaurus isn’t going to understand a school/university assignment well enough to be able to help you with it. Their knowledge predates algebra. On the other hand, I’m sure theropod dinosaurs (Big Al among them) were incredibly smart in much the same way modern corvids are, so your own UPG might differ on this point…
In other words, make this spell your own! What follows is just one way that you can request aid from the spirit of Big Al; this one is designed for (since Big Al died with an infected fracture) remembering to take your pills.
You will potentially need…
1 empty pill bottle
Pebbles, beads, or crystals of some kind that are small enough to fit inside the pill bottle
Sealing wax (your choice of color) or liquid glue
writing supplies OR 1 carnivorous dinosaur toy, ideally a small & cheap one
Instructions, such as they are…
(This is the boring part.) Put the containers for the pills you plan to consume in a place where they are prominent enough that they won’t blend into the background. If you have a lot of different pills to take and want help remembering the instructions for them, keep a piece of paper nearby (or make a note on your phone) with notes for what pills you are supposed to take at what time + any additional helpful information.
Cleanse the empty pill bottle, the pebbles/beads/crystals, and (if using) the dinosaur toy. You can cleanse with whatever method seems best to you—personally, my favorite method is via candlelight.
(This is the less boring part.) If using the dinosaur toy, have the toy preside over your pill bottle(s) that actually have pills in them. This toy is the embodiment of your animal ally. You can set this up on your altar if you use an altar + want to keep your pills there, but it’s not necessary. If not using the toy, use the writing supplies to draw a picture of a carnivorous, bipedal dinosaur on a piece of paper—this will go under your cleansed (and soon to be filled) pill bottle as the embodiment of your animal ally.
Put some pebbles, crystals, and/or beads into the empty and cleansed pill bottle.* Put the cap on and shake it a few times—or more than a few times, if that’s what feels right to you. If you enjoy verbal incantations, you can say one here; it can be as complex as a full-length sonnet in iambic pentameter, or it can be as simple as “amen” or “so mote it be” or what have you.
* Note: as weird as it sounds, I don’t really care about crystal correspondences in my personal practice; they are just pretty rocks to me. Therefore, I’m not going to tell you what crystals work well in this spell. Follow your intuition!
Once you’re satisfied with the pill bottle, seal it with wax or glue and keep it in a place where it’s hard to ignore. Ideally, this place will be right next to the dinosaur toy, or if you’re not using the toy then atop the piece of paper with your hand-drawn dinosaur. Shake the pill bottle full of pebbles, crystals, and/or beads every time you need to take your meds; for me, the rattling sound is part of the ritual and helps me remember to go over to the medicine cabinet and take my pills with breakfast.
And that's it! I hope Big Al and this spell inspire you in some way. If you have helpful medication of any kind, please remember to take it!
If you enjoyed this spell, please consider tossing some spare change toward my ko-fi. As a poor university student with an abusive home life, every little bit helps me get a few centimeters closer to moving out + pay for food and veterinary expenses for my cat.

Some witchy things I did recently! <|:^D
I made a couple jar charms for love (for self love and just general love and niceness). I used the same ingredients for both of them: black salt, cinnamon, brown sugar, bits of dry rose petals, pieces of magnolia leaves and cloves, these were all things that I had around the house (mostly in the kitchen) or that I harvested from outside in my yard.Â
I also made both of the jars into necklaces. I made the string with black pearls (a lot of them have bit of a brownish, reddish tint to them as well) specifically for one of the jars, and then used another chain that I sort of made a while ago (I added the black jasper beads to it).Â
I also made a spell pouch for prosperity and good fortune, it’s got a charm thing hanging on the outside made of cinnamon sticks, nutmeg and star anise.Â

Nightmares, Exhaustion, Sleepless:
A Bottle Curse of Odd Proportions.
Note: Yes I do not like spell jars. Yes I love curses and protections made in bottles. It's the sake of dismantling it.
Components:
Coffee
Energy Drink (flat)
Dirt
Dead plant materials
Metal scrap
War mother
Burnt lavender
Clove
Yew berry
Red pepper seeds
Black peppercorns
Thistle thorns
I placed all of these into a jar with a physical taglock (hair is good, a name is fine, adding objects of relation works too). Of course you want to inform each component of its purpose, but otherwise not much decorum shoving crap into a bottle. Make sure the lid is removable as this is something you'll want to burp, to avoid exploding jars. On a scrap of paper, I write down your intentions for the spell (to inflict insomnia and exhaustion upon the target as well as nightmares). This isn't a very damaging curse, more one of persistent inconvenience and prolonged effect. Shake it every night before you sleep, or if the target is in another time zone and this is possible, shake it before they sleep. Keep this not by your bed but in your bedroom.
If you want to break this specific curse, take some odd instruction. Baking soda. Setting the bottle in a dish, pour baking soda into the bottle (baking soda neutralizes acids so in a magical sense it neutralizes the components). Then, pour in a mix of salt and ash, declaring the curse finished. Add another piece of paper with intentions written on it if you desire. You can also just dismantle it but I find getting wet organic mass out of a jar difficult.

Pop Culture Magic | Fight the Darkness Charm
"My heart is strong. I'll prove it!"
This spell is inspired by Kingdom Hearts, a well loved Square Enix video game series. More specifically inspired by a character from the Series, Aqua - one who constantly fought the darkness, won many times, and managed to claw her way back out when she was lost... with a little help from her friends.
This spell is to help fight the Darkness in your life. Be that stress, anxiety, or just plain old sadness. Everyone can use a little uplifting.
What you'll need:
• Mesquite incense
I use this for protection, healing, and cleansing, though you may substitute for whichever incense you prefer. Or none at all if incense bothers you.
• Aqua blue candle
Esoteric meaning of aqua includes happiness, harmony, healing and peace
• A small Star shaped jar
I am a sucker for spell jars. The star in this case represents the Wayfinder charm Aqua made for Ventus and Terra. Also acceptable is a regular bottle with a star shaped charm to wrap around or attach to the jar. Ideally the jar will be small enough to make a necklace out of to wear this as a ward.
• Obsidian chips
Used for protection, and elimination of negative energy from the self and environment
• Dried Lavender buds
Soothing for anxiety, plus smells nice while adding to your jar.
• Dried Green tea leaves
These improve your focus and help reduce stress in a spell.
• Pink Himalayan salt
Calming, self love
• Fluorite chips
These help create order from chaos, relieve stress, aid in focus, and cleanse
As this spell bottle is for cleansing yourself of stress, anxiety, and sadness the best place to start is grounding and centering yourself. There are many ways to do so, and I always recommend choosing your favorite method. I personally like to meditate and visualize for about 10 to 15 minutes before a spell if time allows for it.
Once you've prepared yourself and your work space, light your incense and repeat these words three times:
I can feel the Light
May my Heart be my Guiding Key
The Darkness Doesn't Interest me
After repeating the rhyme, use the smoke from the incense to cleanse the bottle you're using. Pass the opening over the smoke a few times to catch some in the bottle. Once you've felt you have done this enough times (I usually recommend 3 to 7) turn the jar right side up and let the smoke clear from the inside.
Light your aqua blue candle, and then you can start layering your spell ingredients. The order only matters to the spell caster, but this is the order I would use:
First, a layer of black obsidian chips for eliminating negative energy from yourself and the environment around you.
Then a layer of pink Himalayan salt to cleanse yourself and promote self love.
Followed by a layer of green tea and lavender buds (you can mix the two together) for focus, reduced stress, and soothing anxiety.
Last but not least, a layer of fluorite chips to create order from the chaos causing your darkness.
Place the cork in the bottles opening, and use the wax from the aqua blue candle to seal it. If you used a star shaped bottle, this will be one of your last steps. But if you used a bottle that was a regular shape, then you would attach the star shaped charm and secure it with the wax as well. As you're doing this, you can repeat the rhyme from above three more times.
If the bottle is small enough to wear, you should attach the necklace it will be on after the wax has dried enough to do so, but before you snuff out the candle. Let the candle burn as the wax dries and take that time to visualize and focus on the results you desire from this charm.
