You know what? I'm bored, so here's a list of my favorite ship names

I bully ship names, but I like a lot of them because some of them sound really pretty and are genuinely creative, and some are just funny, and I like the way they sound. Imma try to be multi fandom here, but my hyperfixations will show, since ill obviously know the ships in my own fandoms better. I'll also be explaining them here. There's also no order here, it's by the order I remeber it by.

Honeymoon (Beelzebub x Loona, Helluva Boss)

This shape name is super cute and super pretty, and I love it, and it also makes sense. Bee is a honeybee, and Loona is designed to look like the moon.

Dragonfruit (Mei x Red Son, Lego Monkie Kid)

I didn't get it at first because the fruit at the end didn't make sense, but apparently it takes the first characters in their Mandarin names which can be combined with other characters to make it translates to dragin fruit, and their color schemes also resemble one, which I think is pretty neat. Also, draginfruitsblook pretty

-Stolitz (Stolas x Blitzø, Helluva Boss)

A combination of their names that sounds like 'stole it', which is what Blitzø did with the grimoire. I love it

-Bluetooth (Caine x Moon, The Amazing Digital Circus)

The ship was named by @dovewingkinnie and has been growing in popularity, and I love it that I got to see a ship name being born. They're named Bluetooth because Moon is blue, the blue moon cycle, Caine is dentures, and Bluetooth is a way to connect wifi, which makes sense in a digital world.

-Amourshipping (Ash x Serena, Pokemon XY anime)

It's simple, but I like it. It's called Amourshipping because Amour means love in French, and Kalos (the region the series takes place in) is based on France

-Lumity (Luz x Amity, The Owl House)

It's another combination of names, but it sounds super pretty! To me, it sounds like illuminate, which fits because Luz's name means light and Luz literally showed Amity a light glyph when they were first becoming friends.

Goldengarden (Hunter x Willow, The Owl House)

It sounds so pretty omg

BurningLeafshipping (Red x Leaf, Pokemon [adventures manga])

The name sounds so pretty actually I love this name sm

Royallectureshipping (Cheren x Lear, Pokemon Masters)

Because Lear is a royal and Cheren constantly lectures him. It's litteraly perfect

Verbie (Barbie Wire x Verosika Mayday, Helluva Boss)

It's a combination of names. It sounds like furby. I will be bullying this name later.

Trainwreckshipping (Emmet x Volo, Pokemon)

This is such a perfect name for them. A lot of the fanon interactions stem from Emmet finding Volo to try and get revenge or force him to help him find Ingo, and then they have a whole enemies to lovers thing. It's called trainwreck shipping because ITD BE A GODDAMN TRAINWRECK. And Emmet's a subway boss, and Volo wanted to destroy the world

MedievalStoryShipping

(Gardevoir x Gallade, Pokemon): I didn't even know this ship had a name until I found a blog dedicated to it a couple of months ago. They were names MedievalStoryShippimg because Gardevoir was based off a princess and a knight and gallade was based on a prince and a knight. Also, not to put my own opinions, but I have such a sentimental attachment to this ship because I shipped it so hard in 5th grade and made so much (very bad) fanart of it

-Goldenheart (Ballister Boldheart/Blackheart x Ambrosious Goldenloin, Nimona)

It's another combination of names, but it sounds super cute and very angelic.

-Vorbee (Vortex x Beelzebub, Helluva Boss)

It's a combination Bee and Vortex's name, but it sounds like Vore, and considering Bee's whole thing with eating to excess, I can see that

All in the Cards (series)* - (haikyuu) MY FAVORITE FIC OF ALL TIME! although lengthy it is such a good read and has a lot of popular ships! the au is such a cool concept and the plot and characters are thought out so well it’s amazing and should definitely check it out

The Crystal Miracles - (kuroko no basket) based off steven universe but coming from someone who has never watched steven universe the fic was not super dependent on it and was just based around the plot of steven universe (apparently i talked about with my friend who actually watched steven universe) i thought it was cool so definitely recommend! also a bit lengthy but worth it

friends, worlds apart - (haikyuu) it’s mainly bokuaka but there’s other ships so i decided to put this fic here. tbh i don’t remember it too well but i do know it well enough to know that it was really good! it’s a pretty long hogwarts au fic and is based off basic plot points from harry potter but it’s not too similar imo so overall a good read!

Death Threats & Wine Bottles - (semishira) domestic semishira. that’s all. it’s cute. there’s nothing to not like about it.

Saltwater Room - (kuroken) i think i read this because of a recommendation and man it was funny. i enjoyed all the fun little bits of kenma and hinata just being friends but also the more serious angsty parts and having the whole conflict with kuroo and kenma’s dream. *sigh* it’s good but lengthy. worth it in my opinion but i like long fics so maybe not your cup of tea

When I Fall In Love - (semishira) i can’t really remember this fic since i read it a long time ago but i do remember liking it! the band au/pianist au concept was cool seeing it with semishira and they are so supportive of each other after they get over their annoyance! it’s not as long as the other long fics i’ve recommended but definitely give it a shot!

Cover My Thoughts In Gold - (bokuaka) some classic soulmate au because they are soulmates so why not have a fic that has them be confirmed soulmates

True Ending - (kuroken) marriage proposal in the best and cutest way possible and one that perfectly fits them 🥺

Cat’s Out of the Bag - (kuroken) it’s just some cute little scenes of kenma as a shapeshifter and kuroo not knowing. it’s quick but so so cute how they interact

Maybe, Probably - (sakuatsu) cute hogwarts au of slytherin atsumu and ravenclaw sakusa. yeah that’s basically it

Rose Gold - (semishira) ROYALTY AU SEMISHIRA AAAAAAA definitely one of my favorite considering that I actually never see a royalty au centered around them

Vibrant - (semishira) im a sucker for soulmate aus but this soulmate au especially was such a cute concept!

A Musical World Thanks To You - (semishira) soulmate au fic but you can hear songs that your soulmate is listening to! it really is such a good concept with semi asking shirabu to be in the talent show with him and perform a song and yk yk big build up to the moment hehe

Dog visits - (kyouhaba) the classic “oh he’s different than i thought what do i do now” and yahaba being soft with kyoutani’s dog is everything and kyoutani not knowing how to deal with yahaba barging into his life 😍

be my honeybee - (kyouhaba) tw: implied/referenced child ab/se if you aren’t comfortable with that please don’t read <3 but it is a good fic and addresses real issues especially with kyoutani not really having anyone to help him until yahaba came around. it’s a bit long and made me cry a little so that’s why it’s good

Curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought it back - (kyouhaba) everyone has superpower abilities!! i always love aus like this so it’s not a surprise it’s one of my favorites. it also touches on mental health in the form of kyoutani doing too much for people when he doesn’t need to and always sacrificing himself for others even when it makes him unhappy. it’s so good tho if you ever decide to read it because it is a bit long

rewrite the stars - (kuroken) arranged marriage au where kenma and kageyama are going to get married but by the end they realize that they are marrying the wrong people and its so cute seeing kenma come to that realization

Kuroko No Basket:

The Frog in the Well - (midotaka) it has been a while since i read this fic but i do remember laughing about this and just thinking it was overall cute especially with the whole aspect of being a loose retelling of “The Frog-King” and i know two other people who also read this and thought it was cute so there’s that

The Witch in the Tower - (murahimu) this is from the same series and author as the previous knb fic i recommended because this fic is also based around a fairy tale and i found this really cute because they are kinda domestic in this fic since there’s just an adopted child in a tower… anyway

Feels Like Winning - (murahimu) just some soulmate au for them because murasakibara not knowing how to deal with feelings <3

Only with You - (kikasa) a cute fic for this surprisingly underrated ship! it’s not too long but encompasses these idiots’ relationship in this fic perfectly

Claws and paws - (murahimu) this shapeshifter au is so cute because like height difference 😍 and also the whole idea of like himuro being this tiny cat compared for murasakibara is funny to me. it’s kind of long but i enjoyed it!

Other Fandoms:

Boy Problems - (mirio togata x tamaki amajiki) an OG for me it’s actually one of my first bookmarks and it’s a cute little oneshot that reminds me how oblivious and stupid these idiots are

the blind leading the blind - (childe x zhongli) it’s not really focused on relationship but it really touches on the betrayal that childe feels after realizing that zhongli gave his gnosis to signora behind his back and i think this fic is so very cool for creating that scenario and executed it perfectly!

kintsugi - (teru minamoto x akane aoi) oh lord. oh god. this fic actually kinda broke me. it’s a very bittersweet fic that makes me go OMG YAY and then oh oh oh oh /neg but it does end happily. at what cost tho. it’s so so so good tho definitely recommend. a little lengthy but not too bad

Look At Me Like That - (momotarou mikoshiba x aiichirou nitori) THIS FIC SUMS UP THIS SHIP PERFECTLY! ITS SO GOOD! like the whole thingg of ai having unrequited feelings for rin but is now in love with this idiot momo is exactly how i see their relationship and having that tied up in this one fic.

Hey, Honeybee, won’t be home tonight, but stop by my apartment because I left you a surprise in the kitchen!

Jason was sitting with Nightwing on the top of Wayne Enterprises when he got the text. A solid ‘ding’ in brooding silence was enough to make the black and blue vigilante glance over. Knowing his brother’s intrusiveness, Jason moved to the other side of the rooftop to read what you had sent him.

He was lucky he had been wearing his helmet because the smile that crossed his face couldn’t be helped. Then, when you sent him a picture of you in a cute outfit that you were wearing for family night, he promptly saved it.

“Who ya texting, Jaybird?” Jason didn’t even hear his brother creep up on him and answered by elbowing him in the stomach. Or attempting to. Dick ducked under his arm before reaching for his phone.

The moment Nightwing was hopping away with the phone in his hand, the Red Hood was almost foaming at the mouth to get it back. No, those texts were for him. Not for Dick to see and poke fun at.

“Give me my fucking phone, Dick,” Jason demanded, voice loud. “That’s none of your fucking business.”

“You have a girlfriend, Honeybee?” The question echoed on the rooftop.

Frantic, Jason reached Dick as he was walking along the edge and pulled him down, slamming him on the ground. He didn’t know why he was so angry, and it wasn’t like he didn’t want his brother to know about you. Maybe it was because he wanted to tell Dick in his own time instead of having the news ripped out of him forcefully. If he could, Jason would have told his older brother about you sooner. He trusted Dick, second only to Alfred.

Holding his hands up, Nightwing surrendered. “Hey, it’s great if you do, Jay.”

Letting go, Jason sighed. “Just…Just keep your mouth shut about it.”

“Will do, will do,” Dick climbed to his feet, staring at his younger brother before asking, “What’s her name?”

After a moment of thinking about whether or not to tell him, Jason relented. Then, he asked another question, but, instead of answering anymore, the Red Hood disappeared off the rooftop. Too much information had been divulged anyway.

It never took Jason long to get to your apartment, and he climbed through the window with great diligence to make sure Nightwing didn’t follow. Everything was dark in your home, a sign for most burglars that the home was empty and could be robbed, so he doubled checked that everything was locked correctly. You had been robbed once before, on the street, and Jason could still remember the angry tears on your face--He didn’t want to see that again.

Jason felt comfortable enough in your apartment to take off his mask and use your bathroom, but, still, a bit awkward since he was all alone. You had reassured him through texts after you had left him alone there before, your home could always be considered a second home to him.

After checking that everything was squared away--and taking back a hoodie you had stolen from him-- he went to the kitchen. Switching on the light, Jason grinned. On the counter next to the fridge you were the little red Robin Tupperware. Next to it, orange pop in the glass bottle--His favorite one.

He was opening the Tupperware when he felt Dick walk up behind him. Rolling his eyes, Jason turned to him. “Get the fuck out.”

Dick held up his hands like earlier, indicating surrender. “Hey, I just wanted to see what the surprise was.”

Jason narrowed his eyes before slowly moving to hold out the Tupperware toward his brother. “Take a cookie and get out. Last time I’m telling you before I tell Damien it was you who wrecked that painting he did.”

Dick gasped, hand still going to take a cookie anyway. “You’re lying.”

“Fuck around and find out.”

Nightwing put the cookie in his mouth as Jason walked him to your apartment window, and paused to praise your work. “They taste just like Alfred’s!”

Jason pushed his brother out onto the fire escape, bribing him with another cookie to keep his mouth shut. Dick started to leave before pausing, turning to his baby brother. “Jason, I won’t tell anyone, I promise. I would like to meet her, though, or for you to tell me more about her.”

Red Hood stared at him, pondering on what to say, before just nodding. That seemed enough for Dick as he swung away from the apartment building, leaving his younger to continue eating his cookies and drinking his soda in peace. Fuck, Jason thought, he was going to have to introduce you to his family one day. Not something he was looking forward to.

Chopra Household: Chapter 3, Part 2

Infants Savannah and Mercedes are adorable harbingers of chaos. Follow along as the twins get the better of me and I lose my mind over playmats. Despite this lots of cute infant shots.

Twin management powers activate! Rahul feeds Mercedes while Cassandra does the dishes. Mercedes is then passed to Cassandra for a diaper change. Savannah is picked up by Rahul and has some cheer up time after waking up sad. Disaster strikes! Mercedes has loosed her bladder wildly dousing Cassandra.

Rahul feeds Savannah who then spits up over him, everyone is messy now, parent life. Cassandra has managed to tame the pee disaster and puts Mercedes in her crib. Rahul then passes Savannah to Cassandra who will change her diaper since she's already pee doused.

Rahul kisses Mercedes good night and tries to soothe her to sleep. Cassandra is having a really bad diaper change experience with Savannah. Rahul ends up putting on a lullaby as Mercedes is having lots of trouble falling asleep. When Savannah is clean he puts her to bed and also starts her lullaby.

Cassandra: Who knew something so small could have such a large bladder

Rahul: If you're thinking of having a shower I might join you

Cassandra: Is that so

Rahul: Showering together could save time

Cassandra: Better try it then

And at last both infant girls are sleeping soundly in their cribs.

A grand total of 2 hours later Mercedes decides sleeping is boring. Rahul feeds her while Cassandra does some pumping, then leaves her on the playmat. Next up he feeds Savannah. Cassandra gets to the nursery and starts some tummy time with Mercedes. Cue the crying.

Savannah breaks from tradition and burps some bubbles. Cassandra is still working with a crying Mercedes when Rahul tries having tummy time with Savannah, she also cries because growing up is hard. Milestone music! Mercedes lifted her head! Savannah may look like she is but it doesn't count.

Okay let's try this sleep thing again. Both girls tucked in, lullabies playing. Parents are almost fully rested. Surprise! Intense Mercedes has the Early Riser quirk. Guess we're getting up at 6am so that she doesn't disrupt her sister’s sleep.

Super dad Rahul swoops in and scoops up an angry Mercedes for safekeeping. She is unsure about the back carrier at first, why is she staring at her fathers head? Rahul begins cooking breakfast and chatters away to her. Eventually Mercedes relaxes and begins looking about her in wonderment.

Rahul grabs some breakfast without skipping a beat. After showering Cassandra goes to the coop to feed and clean. I want to apologise in advance to these chickens for the lack of interaction today as shortly after sim lunch time everything will go sideways.

Mercedes gets fed right as Cassandra goes to grab breakfast.

Mercedes: *burps*

Cassandra: How is it that they even burp cute?

Rahul: It certainly makes up for the wailing

Cassandra: You wouldn't wail would you honey?

Mercedes: *smiles*

Rahul: You don't want to comment huh?

Cassandra: No cooing yet

It's meant to be Family Day today (my game version of mothers/fathers day) so Cassandra refuels and organises family lunch. Rahul changes Mercedes diaper which is close to blow out. He puts Mercedes down for a nap and changes Savannah. Not quick enough for Cassandra not to notice the smell though.

Cassandra: What was that smell? Was it you?

Rahul: No it wasn't this cherub, was it?

Savannah: *coos*

Cassandra: Well done honeybee! You coo away

Rahul: tickle, tickle, tickle

Savannah: *coos*

Cassandra: Have you done breakfast

Rahul: Only for Mercedes so far

Cassandra: Mama can fix that, can't I honeybee

Savannah happily guzzles down her morning milk, and manages not to spit any back up! Cassandra needs to pump so puts Savannah on the playmat. Savannah looks at the toys, considers them, then, grabs! She reached her arm out and did it! Cassandra is super impressed with her progress today.

Meanwhile Rahul takes time to go jogging. Getting some time away from the house is important, as is basking in nature. He still misses Henford-on-Bagley but Willow Creek isn't terrible. He almost collides with Agatha, does no sim look where they're going?

After a hug and a kiss it's time for another new milestone for Savannah, her first bubble bath! You know she needs it after her stinky diaper situation this morning. I love the little seat the infants get put in. Would have loved to see them in the sinks but bath is a good runner up option.

Rahul opens a gift before the guests arrive. He got plants seeds which suit him fine. Savannah tries to nap and what do you know, she's a Self-Soother! I put the lullabies station on just to make sure no one turns on metal and disturbs her. Casandra is happy her little brother Milton is here.

Mortimer hasn't shown up, he doesn't put much stock in public holidays. Everyone else is getting along swimmingly though, including the chickens! All the joy gives me a massive false sense of security, the clam before the storm. Things are going to hit the fan, by which I mean glitch to hell.

Things start to go downhill when Mercedes wakes up, furious that there are visitors having fun without her. Cassandra tries to give her a clean diaper but Mercedes releases her bladder at the wrong time, pee everywhere again. I manage to get a shot of Savannah reaching so maybe it's not a bad omen.

Cluckton and I are furious at the glitchy hokey pokey that follows.

🎵You put the infant down, you pick the infant up, you put the infant down and glitch it all about!🎶Four sim hours later and you want to ducking cry, that's what it's all about 🎵

Everyone's motives drop to new depths

Things start to get back on track at 11pm sims time. Those playmats are banished to the household inventory. Cassandra gives Savannah a bottle, a cuddle, and puts her to bed. Savannah laughs for the first time! I think it's in response to peek-a-boo and hour earlier? Me and Cassandra have lost track.

Last but not least Mercedes gets a nighttime feed and cuddle. I don't have pictures, but it took forever to get her to sleep. I'm talking a lullaby and kiss did not work. Rahul had to bust out a second lullaby and try soothing her to sleep. At last she closes her eyes and I can say the day is over!

Mercedes wakes up at 5am the next morning and poor baby is not happy. She's angry at waking up and still feels pretty tired. I'm so sorry little ladybug, I'm going to do my best to give you a better day, promise!

Papa Rahul comforts Mercedes and gives her a clean diaper. Then it's time for Mercedes to have her first bubble bath. She has just as much fun as her sister, enchanted by the rubber duck and freezer bunny sponge. Bubbles make everything better, right?

Cassandra wakes up feeling extra gloomy as she had a horrible family day. While she dejectedly pumps Cluckton goes and confirms that Savannah is now a spoiled egg. Cassandra trudges through the house, and is saddened seeing the stink cloud. No choice, she has to wake Savannah up to change her.

Eli and Ginn were precious, and it's criminal that we didn't get more of them. C r i m i n a l . To say nothing of that double-fridging (that they did twice... ffs).

I like to think that Ginn would be all in for going to earth, and she eventually gets her wish after her file is removed from quarantine (with a sweet clone body grown from DNA harvested from her old clothes, which were initially saved to be backup clothing for some of the ladies on board Destiny, but later saved for cloning purposes [yes I'm aware this means her body would have been buried in some state of undress, but it was off camera anyway so it's fiiiiiiiine]).

Y'all say what y'all like about Family Guy, but the cutaways have tons of cultural references (I am frequently "Peter Griffin Explains the Joke when I watch with my husband). My thought is that Eli shows Ginn episodes of Family Guy to teach her about earth, which you can imagine leads to some pretty ridiculous misunderstandings.

A while back, whilst hunting for meme fodder, I found a mean article written back around when SGU was airing. The gist of it was basically that Ginn was too "pretty" for Eli, and that a "schlubby" guy like him didn't deserve to be with someone conventionally attractive. Idk, maybe I'm old, but I think they're around the same level of cuteness. Also, bear in mind that in the past, having some extra weight was considered a sign of wealth and a positive trait. Eli's body type could easily be a selling point for Ginn, who is apparently interested enough in leaving the Space Cartel that she's willing to risk her life for it. To her, Eli is sweet, smart, cute, and her ticket to a life so cushy that luxuries she can't even imagine are considered commonplace. He's the entire package. 🧡

I do wonder what kind of holiday celebrations they might try to have on the Destiny in some hypothetical future where they can get supplies from earth, especially with all those Lucian Alliance members from various other planets. Obviously not something worth showing in a show that was mainly focused on survival, but it's a fun idea for fics.

And yes, at this point, Family Guy is the only TV show Ginn knows, except for the ones they mention on the show.

This is actually one of the shorter "episodes" I've done, in which Dale gets the bright idea to keep bees on a spaceship. I looked it up, and you can't keep honeybees inside, not even in a greenhouse, because they need more space than that to roam around. Maybe they could genetically engineer some that are suitable for pollinating weird space plants on a starship. No way will that hilariously backfire. Ginn is clearly familiar with the steroid bees, so she will probably think they're normal.

Dale's other idea is to get chickens. Maybe they can get some domestic space quail instead. They're smaller.

"So after we finished Family Guy, we watched some of The Cleveland Show. Then, when I took her to the zoo, she threw a beer into the bear enclosure, and that's how we both got lifetime bans from The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo."

But yeah imagine learning all this random pop culture info from some raunchy cartoon so you can fit in on an alien planet, but no one bothers telling you that the second-most common pet on that planet can't talk. Good luck to everyone when Ginn meets a parrot...

you know what. im no longer mad at the overly simplified cutesy jumping spider viral posts. i do not care as long as it makes at least one person consider the fact that bugs are expressive and interesting. that spiders are beautiful and animal behavior is fascinating even in arthropods. theyre not just little machines, theyre animals with behaviors. my fear was that the anthroporphisization of jumpers was sort of as this grand Exception ie “all bugs are scary except that one teeny tiny floofy pupper“ or whatever. but its a good thing that people are slowly making exceptions in the first place where there were none before. like im fine that its one of the few Cute Popular Bugs. at least its good PR at least they might change someones mind about killing every bug they see

Adaptation Expansion: The movie adds the new character of Melanie, Niko and Daniela's little sister, who is the only human who knows that Niko's been turned into a bee, and becomes one herself to find her.

Adorkable: Niko.

Adult Fear: Imagine that your daughter vanishes from the beach without a trace. Then later, her younger sister disappears as well after going to that same beach.

(Of course, Humans might consider it Disproportionate Retribution, but seeing as this is a common theme in stories among fairies and spirits, such nonhuman beings apparently do not.)

Earn Your Happy Ending: Niko has to go through some hardship to return to human form and save her loved ones. Avoiding predators, saving Daniela and Melanie and killing Mr. Cavatica and Mrs. Weaver shapes her into a more mature person along the way.

Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Mr. Cavatica and Mrs. Weaver genuinely love each other, so she loses it when she discovers he's dead.

Expy: With all the explicit similarities to Alice in Wonderland, it is extremely likely that Mr. Cavatica and Mrs. Weaver are consciously inspired by the characters of the King and Queen of Hearts, respectively.

Forced Transformation: What kickstarts the plot, as Niko becomes a honeybee thanks to an offended crab.

Growing Up Sucks: Subverted. Niko sulks about this at first, then slowly comes around as the film goes on. Or as the film goes on she is revealed to be more mature and resourceful than she appears.

Hands Looking Wrong: How Niko first learns she's been transformed by Piccolo, noticing that her hands are now an insect's limbs.

Karmic Transformation: For Niko when her ignorance gets her transformed into a bee.

Lame Pun Reaction: When catching Niko as a bee in his net, Mr. Shaffer calls her "honey". While he may have thought that it was a good pun, Niko thinks it was stupid.

Missing Child: The moment where Niko gets trapped in a bee's form. Later, the same happens to Melanie. Both girls deal with some pretty dangerous situations while Niko matures as a person.

The Power of Love: Chandra reveals that the transformation can only be reversed by an act of love and courage.

Voice of the Legion: You need to listen very carefully to hear it, but the bug characters (Bee!Niko and Bee!Melanie included) have a slight flanging effect to their voices.

When it comes to writing about societies of eusocial insects, I'd love if more writers were to consider the potential of termites.

Here in the States, we're mostly conditioned to think of termites as dangerous pests who eat your house. And in fairness, that is the most likely scenario where most Americans are likely to encounter a termite - much like any cockroach, we tend not to notice them unless they show up in our homes. But what I generally see people overlooking is that that's only one side of the story - benign, even helpful termites never seem to get touched on, except maybe as food.

(To be fair, they are tasty and nutritious.)

And... that's silly. When we write about other eusocial insects, it's often from a pretty positive perspective. Ants? Noble, hardworking citizens who come together to make their hive strong. Honeybees? Noble, hardworking citizens who come together to make a delicious, incredible food source. (Or hot babes who want to kidnap you to their hive. And frankly, I'm not judging. I'm into it.) Wasps get a bad rap, of course, but that's a topic for another post, because I'm here to deliver some excellent facts about termites and why they are such good candidates for a storytelling subject.

Termites are every bit as industrious and complex as bees or ants. Yes, that can lead to digging tunnels in your house, but it also involves building massive underground complexes, or impressive clay skyscrapers, which boast not only the termites and their young but amazing features like ventilation systems and fungus farms.

You know those weird fictional tropes that people like to apply to ants or bees? Stuff like workers being both male and female, drones surviving to mate with the queen over and over, or the hive staying functional for years on end? Termites have all of that. Of course, taking creative liberties is fine, but how neat is it that there's a real bug that does all this stuff?

Termites are precious. Look at those blobby little bodies and tell me they aren't. They're basically rounder ants! And you can't tell me that those soldier termites with the single horns aren't cute as shit. They're so pointy.

The most damaging termite in the United States isn't even a problem because it's a termite, per se. The Formosan termite is actually an invasive species in the US, and the main reason it poses such a threat is because their colonies are massive compared to other termites that live here. Which is to say, they'd make great foils to some of our other species, assuming your story is set in the States. Or you could ignore them altogether and write about some nicer ones, if you prefer.

We've been shitting on cockroaches for too long. Most roaches aren't really a threat - even the ones who show up in your house are less likely to be vectors for disease than a warning that you really need to clean the place up. (German roaches can pose serious problems, but much like Formosan termites, they're not exactly the baseline creature.)

Of course, if you're not interested in termites, we could also use more stories about naked mole rats.

Engie General Relationship Headcanons

- Ok so Dell in a relationship is just the absolute best, he is such a sweetheart

- He usually doesn't have a lot of time on his hands, considering how he is basically a workaholic and a mercenary, but he does his best to make time for you

- He even made you a little mini sentry to a) keep you safe when he's not around and b) so he can keep an eye on you

- Expect a LOT of cute little pet names from him. "Honeybee", "Sugar", "Darlin'", "Sweetcakes", etc.

- I feel like his main love languages are physical touch and words of affirmation? He adores it when you give him random kisses or hugs, or if you tell him that he's doing a great job. It makes him love you all the more :)

- He'll play guitar for you in his downtime. I also think he has a great voice and can sing very well :)

- I know a lot of other headcanons say this but Dell is an AMAZING cook. There's a reason the other mercs always ask for him to cook. One thing he makes an effort to do is he'll come and gently wake you up each morning for breakfast. Of course you get up :D

- Some nights you do have to coax him to bed, for his health. "But honeybee, I gotta do just one more adjustment..." He'll try to convince you he's fine, but he looks like he's just about ready to drop. I promise he'll appreciate it in the morning though :)

- He's not one to get super jealous easily, but if someone is making you uncomfortable, he won't hesitate to come over and make some sort of subtle threat that sends them running (Dell can be very scary when he needs to be :3)

- Dell is an all or nothing kind of guy. He knew the moment he decided to ask you out that he wanted to be with you forever. He's in it for the long haul with you ok :p

- On that same subject he literally made you a ring the week after you started dating. He keeps it in the pocket of his overalls at all times, waiting for the right moment to present it to you <3
