Dev update for CT:OS and Merry Crisis

Hi guys! Sorry it's been a while!

Life update

I've been so busy at work that I've barely had time to rest and hang with friends and family, let alone write as much as I need. I've still been spending some of my weekends writing, but rapidly discovering how little I can get done with just 5 or 6 hours of writing per week. (Crazy how much time IF-writing takes haha)

It's just peak busy period for my job right now before holiday season and things will calm down in December.

CT:OS

As y'all may know, I had been hoping to release the update in early Nov for early release folks and mid Nov for public folk.

I am still aiming to squeeze out the CT:OS update by end of Nov or early Dec and I wanted to let you all know where I'm at!

The scenes are about 95% written (all the way up to the end of the matches currently, I'm just finishing up the win/lose reactions and editing)!!

As of right now, the new update stands at a mammoth 90k+ words with code, but I think something like 35-40k in a playthrough, and there are new RO kisses for all ROs :)

The good news despite these delays is that this update (far from being a short pt. 2), is actually meaty enough to really stand as its own update.

Merry Crisis

I'll update again when I have a bit of a sense when CT:OS is done and how busy my December looks.

Finally, because I don't want ko-fi folk to be paying out of pocket for this month as its taking a bit longer than expected, I will be refunding ko-fi monthly payments from beginning of Nov until the next update, which I hope will be before Dec.

hello party people! the stanley cup playoffs start right now, so in an attempt to tempt y’all to watch, i have compiled a list of playoff moments that altered my brain chemistry (as someone who has watched the playoffs every year since 2010)! even if you don’t want to watch hockey, the sport is pretty ridiculous so here is just a small sample of the extent of the craziness!

washington capitals vs. pittsburgh penguins 2009 (round 2 game 2): hockey’s messi and ronaldo, sidney crosby and alex ovechkin put on a show for the washington crowd as they each score hattys in the same game. the capitals would go on to win the game, but the penguins would win the series (and later the cup), but this game has some of the best highlights as the two best players in hockey at their peaks showed off their skills for sexy, sexy hockey!

chicago blackhawks vs. philadelphia flyers 2010 (round 4 game 6): in overtime of game 6 of the stanley cup finals, a chicago player scored the game winner to win the hawks the cup. the weird part? nobody saw it go in except the player and his teammates. the crowd, flyers, and broadcasters didn’t see it go in. known as the “phantom goal” this goal won the hawks their first cup in almost 50 years.

vancouver canucks vs. chicago blackhawks 2011 (round 1 game 7): this is the game that made me fall in love with hockey. little 7-year-old me was glued to my television screen all night watching this game. the blackhawks and canucks had matched up in the playoffs for three years in a row, and the blackhawks (at the time the reigning cup champions) had beat the canucks every time. this series had gone the full 7 games, with the canucks winning the first 3 and the blackhawks coming from behind to win the next 3. earlier in game 7, hero alex burrows had opened the scoring then missed a penalty shot. with the game tied at 1, just over 5 minutes into overtime, burrows gets the puck and scores, defeating the blackhawks to send the canucks to the next round. they would go on to lose the cup in the final, but this was the golden generation of canucks games and the vibe in vancouver? unmatched. it gave birth to two of the most iconic radio calls: “they slayed the dragon” by john shorthouse, and “its a wonderful day for an exorcism” from jim hughston. this defined my childhood fr

boston bruins vs. toronto maple leafs 2013 (round 1 game 7): mere weeks after the tragedy at the boston marathon, the bruins were down 4-1 with just over 14 minutes to play in the 3rd period. they were down 4-2 with 9 minutes left. with two goals in 30 seconds, with less than 90 seconds remaining, the bruins tied the game and patrice bergeron won the game for the bruins in overtime. the maple leafs, having blown a 3 goal lead, ended their season. as of right now, they have not won a round of the playoffs since 2004.

tampa bay lightning vs. boston bruins 2018 (round 2 game 4): the playoffs can get quite scrappy! in order to get an advantage over his opponent after a little scrum, noted league rat brad marchand licked a man. yes fully licked. previously in the playoffs he had kissed and licked another man, and this caused the league to outlaw licking. the bruins would go on to lose the series, even though marchand continued his ridiculous antics

vegas golden knights vs. vancouver canucks 2020 (round 2 games 5-7): in 2020, the playoffs were played in a bubble at one arena with no spectators. after game 4, that the knights won, it was discovered that the canucks goalie jacob markstrom had an injury. with the knights leading the series 3-1, the canucks needed to win 3 games in a row to move on to the next round. enter thatcher demko, a rookie goalie who had never played a playoff game before. over games 5, 6 and 7, demko made 123 saves, including a 48 save shutout in game 6, to keep the canucks in until game 7. he stood on his head, he was incredible, and he went over 100 minutes without the knights scoring a goal. unfortunately, with a knights shutout in game 7, the canucks wouldn’t move on, but “bubble demko” would live in infamy as thatcher demko’s intro to playoff hockey. hes my favourite goalie

pittsburgh penguins vs. new york rangers 2022 (round 1 game 1): as both teams were ready to fight it out in the playoffs, this game was tied at the end of three periods. in the playoffs, overtime lasts 20 minutes with 15 minute breaks between them. in the 3rd period of overtime, and the 6th period of hockey evgeni malkin scored for the penguins after over 90 minutes of hockey. it was midnight at madison square garden. the rangers goalie, igor shesterkin, made 79 saves in the loss, and the penguins goalie louis domingue, who came on in the second overtime to replace an injured casey desmith, went viral for reports that he ate spicy pork and broccoli between periods to keep up his energy. this is one of the longest games in nhl history, and the rangers would go on to win the series in 7 games.

edmonton oilers vs. calgary flames 2022 (round 2 game 1): the battle of alberta is one of the classic rivalries of the nhl, and the first game of last year’s round 2 delivered. the goalies seemed to be unable to keep the puck out of the net, and flames and oilers fans both watched as the two teams combined for 15 goals, with the flames winning 9-6. the oilers would go on to win the series, but the sloppy, goal-heavy hockey has stuck in my mind ever since last may

Unfortunately, Aniki was called to the agency earlier and left in a panic.

Apparently Ran-senpai didn’t get permission from the agency, or rather, Vice Prez Saegusa Ibara, to appear in 2×2.

It probably had already begun to air by the time he noticed, so he probably let it slide until it was over to give a lecture about it—Or well, that’s probably what Vice Prez was thinking.

Aniki and Ran-senpai are prooobably getting thoroughly chewed out together right now.

Yeah. Well, it looked like Ran-senpai had a lot of fun, he’ll probably back Aniki up, so it should be fine. The Vice Prez has a soft spot for him, after all.

And for us too. He’s seriously been pretty good to us, hasn’t he~!

I was certain about it ever since I poked YamadaP about it to gauge his reaction.

Switching places is copyrighted exclusively to us twins, it’s been stolen!

Or no, actually, is this something like revenge to us causing mayhem by switching places in Twin Peaks or something?

The producer showdown, secretly held under the cover of 2×2, was an important match to determine the future head of the P-Association.

To keep the match fair, you lied to us.

Specifically, you secretly switched the name of the producer in charge each time, didn’t you?

On the outside, you were credited as the producer for the first episode and the odd numbers following it, but…

But in reality, it was the other way around, with YamadaP in charge of the first episode.

But since we don’t know that, if we had favored Anzu-san and became motivated only for those episodes—

In the end, YamadaP would have won, the actual person in charge.

Rather, the one who organized this, the P-Association, swapped you two’s names in anticipation of that. Isn’t that right?

Because generally, Yumenosaki idols blatantly favor Anzu-san.

And the P-Association figured we’d be the same, so they set a trap for us.

And they did that, because the P-Association wanted YamadaP to win.

As someone who found great success in SS, and is especially loved by everyone in Yumenosaki, praised as the “protagonist of the modern day”, you must be an eyesore for them, Anzu-san.

And so, they wished to uproot you. That’s probably why they even had the producer showdown, just to get you removed from the P-Association.

But, the miscalculation on the part of P-Association was who was appointed to be your successor, YamadaP—

Who had no interest in being incorporated into ES.

YamadaP has a solid reputation outside of ES and has a place he belongs there. I doubt he wanted to become a part of the gigantic monster called ES only now.

That’s why he was cutting all those corners. He wanted to lose on purpose.

He wanted to lose so he wouldn’t have to become the head of the P-Association, which would be nothing but a pain in the ass.

That’s why for the odd-numbered episodes, the ones he was actually in charge of, he betrayed his reputation as a skillful producer, the content being so boring it felt like I had already seen it somewhere before.

No, that’s exactly why something began to feel off to us.

You’re no longer a beginner who doesn’t know what’s right or left, Anzu-san. You’re a talented producer who is recognized and loved by idols.

And we had already known that.

Season 2, Episode 5: the Boston Tea Party Caper for @csweekly

BACKSTORY DAY BACKSTORY DAY

And not just for Ivy and Zack! They literally meet Carmen on her first caper and Player is so YOUNG. They’re babies all of them and I love them. Honestly it makes it even more special they met each other on caper 1.

“Player can have his own room” I could literally cry at the sweet sentiment but also my conspiracy mind whirls because so many throwaway lines were foreshadowing WHAT IF THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN TOO

“I thought he lived in the cloud” LOL

Zack: maybe it’s a flying race car?

Let your dreams become reality next week, Zack.

LoL Shadowsan did not ask for a flashback but he’s literally getting one. That’s so funny.

These two episodes are so interesting. Zack, up until now, we have only known as a ray of sunshine, a golden retriever. But Trey is about the only person EVER to get under his skin. Even Dash Haber, who actively tried to do so, only succeeded in making him nervous or mildly annoyed and generally clueless in a stressful situation. But as far as I can see, Trey is not insulting Zack. He’s insulting the car, which Ivy built from scratch with her talent and skill. Zack doesn’t get mad over himself. He gets mad over people knocking his family. Only once they do that does Trey get Zack mad by insulting him personally.

Okay counting the cars, Zack comes in fifth, so they DO qualify. They just don’t have a car for the actual money races.

Shark Head Eddie is peak character design.

Urgh the sibling conversation in the car breaks my heart. They are such good kids. They don’t want to do this but they will psych themselves up to do what they have to. Contrast that to when they’re stealing to help Carmen. It’s a mission they can put their hearts into.

Okay this is the best way to tell the backstory. Shadowsan’s even half invested. And Carmens just. Nah I’m not letting you get off the hook for this one. You two started the story I’ll finish. And now we get Carmen’s side!

“A few months” my butt. More like a few months had to be closer to a year to 1. Grow in height 2. Grow the hair

And honestly changing the plan because Zack and Ivy are there and stressing Player out just becomes the norm. Also that’s great Ivy could sneak in specifically because Player cut the security cams. They’re unintentionally helping each other already.

Carmen not used to driving a vehicle. Boats in the middle of the ocean have no traffic.

I DONT EVEN HAVE MY LEARNERS PERMIT.

Please someone write the fic where Zack shows up in Canada to help Player pass his driving exam. PLEASE

I am endeared that Zack and Ivy give the first geography brief. Literally everything about them endeared them to Carmen.

Carmen Sandiego, kidnapped by two siblings from Boston for a history lesson. The comedy That her hat just lingers for a minute in the air.

Reminder for next fic to have Zack attempt to create a baseball rivalry with Player or Carmen over the BlueJays or Padres.

Player literally fact checking them from Canada lol he’s so chill they’re family already.

Also, Player has changed into his regular series outfit. No more white hat. He’s “red hat” with Carmen now. Let me talk about his layers of clothing color theory now, Even if it’s a fashion disaster it has meaning. Blue shorts are for his white hat days, as blue is ACME/the “good guys” so to speak. He wears a red T-shirt to show his loyalty to Carmen, but because he’s a secret he keeps it covered by the grey hoodie. Lastly, the yellow zipper on his hoodie matches the yellow zipper on Carmen’s stealth suit. Usually yellow is for team red Allies. Sonia, comes to mind later. Players outfit is literally inverse of Carmen’s. As she wears black underneath the red, and wears blue gloves.

You can literally see Carmen’s disappointment forming as the sibs start talking about the money.

I also forget how soft the classmates were on Black Sheep. Le Chevre wants her to get away. He knows how angry the Faculty are and what an egregious move she’s made by running away. He understands what that means. He still cares about her safety right now. It’s such a good scene. Because Carmen might have been fond of them, but she acknowledges they all joined VILE and knew what they were getting into. She’s not holding back and she’s not going to show much emotion over it. She knew this was going to happen one day.

If I had a nickel for every time Le Chevre and El Topo got pushed into the water I’d have like four nickels by now.

The WAY IVY RESPONDS to Carmen needing muscles I’m dying every time.

Ivy and Zack are so chaotic they’re helping Carmen without even realizing it yet. Just solidifies they’re made for each other. Also!!! I love how curious and inquisitive Ivy is!!! They haven’t even joined Carmen but she’s already thinking about making a grappling hook!!!! What a little scientist!! Bellum would love her.

Their team up fits so perfectly. Ivy and Zack need out of town, and Carmen has found out she very much needs some ground assistance. AND FRIENDS MORE FRIENDS. It’s just been her and Player it has to be lonely.

And to round it off, Shadowsan’s pov on the Faculty reaction. That’s so neat that because he’s there we get all of the pov. That was really cool because sometimes we’ll get that insight into the third party reaction for no reason in other shows, but here it’s because Shadowsan remembers and he’s there! So they all participate in reminiscing.

There! Series ending explained. Ivy and Zack love what they do. And they love Carmen. Despite their fear sometimes, they get a huge rise out of being able to thwart the bad guys. They love racing yes, but they still get to do so in a way now. They tried something different and they love it.

I knew this logically, but seeing all four of them get into the car has my mind racing with joy over the many trips to the airport and road trips the four of them have taken.

Also Player is so endeared to them too. He specifically uses the term flying car teasingly. I love. This family.

Next week time for Rue getting massive second hand embarrassment (but still a good episode! Effective!)

1. What’s your favourite sims death?

I always thought Death by Flies was particularly brutal and acted as a good incentive to not let your slobs get too... slobby. I am glad they brought it back for Sims 4.

2. Alpha CC or Maxis Match?

I consider myself to be pretty strictly maxis match. It just makes the game feel like its own world, instead of ours. Though, I do like to use makeup and eye from alpha creators. Plus my game barely runs on my poor laptop, so alpha cc is kind of like a forbidden fruit for my game.

3. Do you cheat when your sims gain weight?

I have a mod that makes it so sims don't gain muscle or weight at all. Though, the majority of my sims have their weight set to like 75% ish and I still think they look too skinny...

4. Do you use move objects?

Unplayable otherwise.

5. Favorite mod?

I swear by roBurky's Meaningful Stories Mod and weerbesu's UI Cheats Extension. If I had to play with only the bare minimum of mods, these would be the two that I pick.

6. First expansion/game/stuff pack you got?

When I was a kid, I played the MySims games, MySims Agents, specifically. When I went to go look up more Sims games, I found Sims 2 and had my mom buy Sims 2 Seasons. I did not realize it required the basegame until it was too late.

7. Do you pronounce “live mode” like aLIVE or LIVing?

I say it like aLIVE. I guess in my mind it's like LIVE television or LIVE streaming a game. It makes sense in my brain at least.

8. Who’s your favorite sim that you’ve made?

It is illegal to make me choose. Though, I might make a post soon that just a bunch of random sims I have made in CAS and a brief description of their stories I never played out. Stay tuned.

Ever since I started playing Sims, I have always made a simself. Though, when I was younger, the sim was like a projection of what I wanted to look like and now my simself is what I look like. For the most part. He needs some updating.

10. What sim traits do you give yourself?

Probably Creative, Art Lover and Perfectionist for Sims 4 traits. In Sims 3, probably Artistic, Couch Potato, Cat Person, Perfectionist and Supernatural Fan. That about sums me up.

11. Which is your favorite EA hair color?

This would be easier to ask my LEAST favorite color would be the true black swatch because half of the hairs just look gray. Favorite? Not really any, depends on the sim but most of my sims have the blue-black hair color.

Sims 2 peaked with this hairstyle. I tried to recreate it here in Sims 4 by combining cc, but it's not the same...

13. Favorite life stage?

Purely from a gameplay standpoint, it is Young Adult, but that is such a vanilla answer. Toddlers are up there. It would be Infants but I have yet to actually play with that life stage...

14. Are you a builder or are you in it for the gameplay?

It's about equal tbh. Depends on my mood.

Perhaps.

Each game has things that I like and don't like. Gameplay wise, Sims 2 100%. Building and CAS, Sims 4. I have not touched Sims 3 in a hot second but I would love to revisit it again. Sims 1 is at the bottom of the list, I only play that game for the novelty, tbh.

No, but I do own a plumbob headband for when me and my girlfriend dressed up as Bella and Mortimer a few years ago.

Unfortunately.

Not really. The only noticeable change is that I used to religiously make irl people that I knew as sims, including my crushes of course. Now, I don't ever do that besides my simself.

Bands! Though, them releasing a grunge kit and a potential goth kit makes that feel more and more unlikely.

Sims 3: Supernatural holds a special place in my heart that has yet to be replicated. I just love occults and vampires and any sim packs that revolve around it. Every time I go to make a family I'm like. "These guys are cute... but what if they were vampires, too?" Every. Time.

Anyway, some quick Van headcanons:

Realized she was into girls probably sometime in middle school; it was very much that same ‘crush’ feeling her friends described about boys but about one of her friends. She stayed quiet about it until joining the soccer team, eventually ‘coming out’ to a few of them post-match in the locker room when they’d all been teasing the rookies about their crushes on boys.

She’s always been a ‘tomboy’ growing up, never wanting to wear dresses or be super girly and explore make up. Her parents let her just be herself, assuming it might just be a phase until she grows up. Van starts identifying with the butch label sometime long after the events of the crash and things start returning to some semblance of ‘normal’ again.

She’s about 5′5.5″ tall; she peaked in 6th grade.

She has played other sports in the off season but soccer is her favourite; but across the board, she always plays goalie/catcher/etc.

At some point in her early 20s, she cut her hair extremely short, but found that it wasn’t really her, and let it grow out over a painstaking year and a half.

Grew to accept her scars but it took her a while once they were rescued and returned to civilization. She can sometimes feel a little self-conscious about it, but when strangers ask, she just says she was attacked by a dog when she was younger and most people leave it alone after that.

movie shenanigans vs show shenanigans

MASH actually has more than a couple of shenanigans that were also in the movie/book, so which did it choose and in what ways were they (maybe) different:

1. they do record frank and margaret on the show and broadcast it across the camp. on the show, I think this is one of the worst things that hawkeye does to margaret, and gives quite a neat bit of characterisation -- to hawkeye in the moment, to margaret, alas, not until a few seasons later in hindsight. hawkeye of course has the great “I was too busy going too far” line, whereas margaret’s ordeals with misogyny are explored further along in the story, although unfortunately in the episode itself she’s kind of pushed aside in favour of frank’s outrage (although she does get to be angry initially). one thing I appreciate is that at least she’s already acknowledged to be a great nurse by this time, if still an antagonist, and so potentially losing her is a blow to the unit, while in the movie she’s steadily reduced to little more than foaming-at-the-mouth ditzy

2. they do frame an army guy with a sex worker, although it’s not as graphic on the show as in the movie, in which they actually strip an unconscious man and put him in bed with a naked woman and take pictures of them as he wakes up and struggles to get out of the bed. in the movie this is actually done as an act of trying to get some actual doctoring done, on a Korean baby no-less, while an army bureaucrat is trying to hinder them. a rare moment of something related to the army more directly + actually gives a sense that they are in Korea and can do something, although it’s also another example of the limited roles that women have in this story, particularly asian women (I believe they’re on leave in tokyo at this point? so she’s presumably japanese. am suddenly unsure if we ever see a korean woman??). in the show it’s because a man is trying to stop an American soldier and a Korean woman from getting married, and they only try to convince him that they have pictures of him with sex workers after getting him blackout drunk

3. they do steal a jeep! actually this is my favourite hijink in the film, because it’s showing casual disrespect for army protocol, and happens right at the beginning, setting up the tone and two of the characters. in the show the most famous jeep-theft is when BJ arrives in korea, and hawkeye’s at his peak devil-may-care fuck-this-place-and-fuck-the-army-(and-fuck-trapper-perhaps?) so it’s less about character set-up (although it says a teensy bit about the newcomer BJ that he’s so ready to follow hawkeye at this point), and more about hawkeye where he’s at in that episode

4. they do... I think????... get an outsider in to the unit (or try to??) in order to win a sports game? if I’m remembering correctly. but I cannot remember when or how or if they succeed? in the movie, this is everyone’s bestest guy oliver! he only arrives late in the story, and unfortunately I think the football match is boring, but I do love that he and one of the other black players get to interact about how to get a white racist player thrown off the pitch. they should’ve been the main characters

5. and of course they do trick someone into being naked, while members of the camp watch and cheer, once with bj and hawkeye, and once just with bj. the framing of it is, ahem, less... virulently misogynistic and overall nasty, because they’re all friends by this point. one also perhaps gets a sense that considering the show had a bunch of “nekked women in showers” spying jokes early on, this is fair turnaround from a meta point of view/that it fits into alan alda’s agenda of taking hawkeye down a peg. also, both bj and hawkeye have pulled some pretty big and sometimes not-so-nice pranks in the show (and bj in particular continues to/both of these episodes are about pranks), so the power dynamics are overall veeery different from what the movie is doing

6. they do trick someone into getting psychiatrically evaluated for fitness of duty (the ringbanger), but it’s done differently and it’s not frank burns. it’s got a lot less of a personal vendetta ring to it, and far more of a “this guy gets people killed, we’ll stop him somehow!” vibe. it’s a fucked up thing to do to a person, but it’s got more depth and stick-it-to-the-army feeling to it. in the movie, frank is the main face the army gets, and he’s a tool, but the way the goad him into a fight by graphically describing what margaret must be like in bed, uh... doesn’t speak well for them/they seem to hate him more because he’s annoying than because he’s an army guy who abuses his power. I wonder if frank in the show almost getting a section 8 is a callback to that?

7. they do drug an opponent during a fight/match that has a heavy bet related to it. in the movie this is done during the football match. in the show this is done during the boxing fight. probably the least deep in the show of the hijinks, as this is fully just to get nurse margie cutler to stay

so that makes possibly 7 hijinks from the movie that are also in the show, at least four of which occur in the first three seasons. there may be more, I’m just forgetting. the overall difference is in the framing -- often either specifically anti-military, although there is definite sexist bullying of margaret baked into that with the first one, and/or could be done after they were already all friends. overall there is simply more context to the show’s version of these shenanigans, whether narrative or character-building, but that’s understandable considering the time the show has to build these things (I said in my review, I like the aimless shambling of the movie, although I got nothing out of the nastiness of it). I actually think some of the meaner tricks they pull on the show are directed at charles, but I don’t think there are any there inspired by the movie

the one I was most weirded out by in the film was “tricking someone into thinking he’s committing suicide (but actually just knocking him out), so that they can “cure” him thinking he’s gay (because he’s impotent, which he thinks must be because he’s gay), by a nurse -- whom they didn’t include in this plan until she was literally in the room with him and has consistently wanted to be faithful to her husband I think -- having sex with him while he’s unconscious” -- and it works, because of porn logic, I guess. am I right, that that’s what happened? unpacking that is... a whole thing

Changes that happened around me

I’ve been into knitted wear since winter last year. I suddenly started thinking they were cute, and bought a lot of knitted clothes like turtlenecks! And that continued on through early summer and even until now. When I see a store selling them I immediately buy them. I bought 5 just recently (laughs)! I bought one white and one brown turtleneck, a loud-colored sweater, a fluffy dark blue knit that really feels good, and a checkered knit. Maybe in preparation for the next season? But every now and then I line them up side by side! The peak of summer hasn’t even come yet but I want the season to quickly become cold!

Something that hasn’t changed at all since before

This is bad. I just changed all the items around all at once (laughs). I use them for a long time once I start using them, but there are times when I suddenly think “Okay, let’s change this!”. And when I do, I get hooked on the process of changing things. The things I recently replaced are wireless earphones I’ve been using for 6-7 years and my eyeglasses. As for the eyeglasses, I bought 6 pairs all at once! Asei-san from Miki (comedy duo) wears cute eyeglasses, so I asked him where he got them and bought a matching pair of glasses. We said that we should both wear it the next time we appear in “Love It!” ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A view or scene that moved you and is still engraved in your heart

My grandfather and grandmother’s house in Kyushu. I get a little nostalgic every time I remember it. I haven’t gone there since I was in elementary which is why I want to go again now that I’m an adult. The stairs are really steep, and falling down has also become a good memory (laughs). And also, Snow Man’s live performances. The penlights shine all at once with the lights bursting. Every opening gets my tension up and makes me go “It’s here! It’s here~!”. I want to raise my voice soon and feel my body tremble with everyone’s cheers. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fukazawa~, he’s always playing funny man for some reason. He’s always playing the foolish guy so it’s hard having to be the straight guy... (Fukazawa: It’s not like that!!). Wahahaha. Well, conversations like this. We’re always being like this even if it’s just the members without the cameras rolling (laughs). I want to see everyone smiling that’s why I always make the shooting locations enjoyable. I want to be in Snow Man even if I become an old man. I will do a backflip in front of my grandchild. (Fukazawa: You, do you plan on falling in front of your grandchild?) Saying stuff like “Why are you sleeping? Today I’m wearing the watch I bought to commemorate my turning twenty. It caught my eye when I incidentally looked at the watch case as I was about to go out of the house. I thought I want to treasure this intuitiveness. It’s cool when I look at it, I can’t help but look at it because it feels good. I want to keep it beautiful and someday give it to my child!

It’s been a while since I’ve wrote in.

I have been a little busy with work the past week, I’ve been very tired and just got done with peak season at my work crazily enough… they estimated peak would go until the 14th and ended within the first week, crazy.. isn’t it. The company I work for is actively being boycotted for donating to Israel in this era of Israel/Palestine. I’m finally enjoying off days after working 5 days straight of 10 hour shifts… it’s nice, I’ve been sleeping so much though that I feel lazy

Things… have been moderately okay though. I haven’t really felt all too many grandiose emotions, just mainly loneliness and feeling lost in life. It’s crazy how time flies and the sudden realization shoots you in the back, it’s scary. Time doesn’t stop for anyone, no matter what. I guess you can say my depression has taken a bit more of a backseat now and I’m in the driver’s seat, still lost with a GPS leading me in different directions and ideas.

I feel like I’m wasting time, withering away doing nothing and there’s others that are blooming and more deserving of this time.

I’m thinking of planning a fun trip and I’m thinking of San Diego, the places I really want to go to are very out there in other countries (Hokkaido, Venice, Shanghai, etc). I’d be smart to travel to places here in the USA and try and get out there, I’m lonely and maybe that’d help give me motivation to have a nice trip and think about life. Then again, I’ve never gone anywhere by myself and it’d be a little scary but.. I’ve accomplished so much on my own and I know I can do it, if I put my mind to it.

Depression has had me in its grasps for far too long and I need to do something about it!

If anyone even reads these, for anyone who doesn’t understand what depression feels like..

Depression is kind of like a boxing match.

In this endless boxing match, you’re fighting over your happiness and self worth. Sometimes, you get many good licks in on Depression and it feels like you’re about to pin them down and get them out— but, Depression gets back up and sucker punches you.

No matter how many good punches you get on Depression, it doesn’t magically disappear or lead to victory; more like temporary victories before it strikes again. Sometimes, Depression is the one getting the licks in and being so aggressive with its attacks that you want to stay down and give up. But, you have people on the sidelines cheering and supporting you; wanting you to win this boxing match and sometimes it feels like your audience is missing. Like you’re on your own and fighting alone, like you’re alone and feel like no one cares what happens to you. Even if it’s not true, you have many friends and family that loves you— many more happy memories to be made.

No matter how lifeless you feel, no matter how much it feels like a pyrrhic victory— it’s a never ending battle that you face and have to keep your head up and fists high.

Sometimes I do feel alone, but, I know my mother and father care a lot about me. I have online friends that care about me. I have coworkers, group leads and supervisors that are always happy to see me. I know I can make others smile and laugh even when deep within, I feel dumb and in pain— I can temporarily forget all my troubles, confusion and whatnot.

I’ve been in my head a lot, my apologies.

Today, we should be at ATP. BY RIGHTS!! The next three days promise to be a stream of torturous reminders that we’re not.

So, to celebrate the fact that I’m gonna be miserable this weekend while my friends tweet and facebook and blog about how they’re having an incredible time, as I sit LONELY at msn, ABANDONED, here are some stream of consciousness, non-proof read reminisces about the four ATPs that myself and other members of LC! have attended. Plenty of name-dropping because I’m depressed, alright?

MAY 2006 The United Sounds Of ATP. Our first ATP. Phil Elverum with Herman Dune as backing band. Neil and Tom paid for tickets. I got the other…five of our pals “press passes” due to me being a BIG PLAYER in student media at the time. We slept the seven of us in and around a single double bed. John slept with his head in a bin and wore a dress for the weekend, got recognised by Huw Stephens while hitching up his skirt in the . Tom and Neil got their picture taken with Bill Callahan. Immediately accidentally deleted it. Cried. Beth Ditto called me “the cutest thing I’ve ever seen”. Met a really awesome girl, wrote a song about it. Did a conga line whilst watching the Shins. Shared a chalet with a Sheffield Wednesday fan, he was very tall. Two litre bottles of Strongbow. Vodka and slush puppies. Might have met Josie Long. Dancing with Sleater-Kinney to ‘Hot Topic’ by Le Tigre, WHILST WEARING a Bikini Kill t-shirt. 33 at 45. Mascis playing guitar with BSS, and forgetting to mute his pedals whilst tuning up, LOL. Absolutely OWNING the dancefllor for the entire weekend.I kind of peaked here. Pretty certain this was the happiest weekend of my life.

MAY 2007 ATP VS THE FANS The moment, watching Architecture In Helsinki, that, all at once, about 25 blokes in the crowd noticed a bit of one of their songs sounded like the BBC Cricket coverage theme tune, massive grins. Starting the weekend off with The Thermals, meeting loads of people off Drowned In Sound in the front row. Somebody told me Daniel Johnston had missed his flight. I drunkenly announced it to loads of people. Daniel Johnston hadn’t missed his flight. I’m still very sorry. The Notwist being amazing. Got a verse out of this one too. Yoni Wolf and Dose One performing part of Physics Of A Unicycle together. Incredible. Missed Shellac because we watched the frankly FUCKING AWFUL Chelsea v Utd FA Cup final. Asked to do a Los Campesinos! v Mogwai 5-a-side football match. Too scared.

MAY 2008 ATP VS PITCHFORK We played this one. Esiotrot/4 or 5 Magicians/Los Campesinos! 5-a-side. Lot of fun. Maybe shouldn’t go to ATP with a girlfriend, makes it a bit rubbisher. Also, don’t jump off the drum kit during your set and sprain your ankle and subsequently have to spend the rest of the weekend on crutches. Except, ATP only had one pair of crutches, and somebody had already taken. In extreme pain for the rest of the weekend. But playing was probably the proudest I’ve ever been. I CROWDSURFED!! Last day of the Premiership season, United win it at Wigan. Found a disposable barbecue with a human turd on it. Times New Viking dedicating a song to us, and hanging out with them all weekend, gettin’ waaaaaaasted man. Saw the guy, who had the crutches, CARRYING THEM, WALKING FINE!!! BASTARD!! Was offered a Zimmer frame.

DECEMBER 2008 NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS: MIKE PATTON/THE MELVINS Didn’t go until Saturday afternoon, because I had a football match Saturday morning. Watched about 3 bands. All very good, thank you very much. Watched about 5 football matches. Everton v Aston Villa was a hell of a game. United beat Fulham. Kept asking for beers with the stress on the wrong cyllables, hilarious. Got drunk and tried to go swimming. It was closed. Got tricked at ‘gay chicken’. Lots of Dance Dance Revolution. Me and Gui started our new band KrabIsland (news on that, never). I could be Teenage Jesus’ drummer.

I’ve been reasonably restrained here. Might add some more in a bit. We’ll be lucky if I don’t bust out crying…

Since his emergence at the top level of professional tennis 18 years ago, Novak Djokovic has used the dizzying bar set by Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal before him as inspiration to push himself to his limits, never doubting that he would one day rise above it.

What once seemed impossible eventually became inevitable. On Sunday, Djokovic finally surpassed his great rivals in the most significant category of all as he defeated Casper Ruud 7-6 (1), 6-3, 7-5 to clinch his 23rd grand slam title, breaking his tie of 22 with Nadal.

This historic victory means that Djokovic is now the men’s sole grand slam record holder, alongside countless other records. After years of being blocked by Nadal, the greatest claycourter of all time, at the French Open, Djokovic also now has three titles in Paris and he is the first man to win each grand slam tournament three times. He will also return to No 1 for a record-extending 388th week as the best player in the world.

“Every single player dreams of being on this stage and winning the trophy at least once in their career. I’m beyond fortunate in my life to win 23 times, it’s an incredible feeling,” Djokovic said during his on-court speech.

While he still covers the court with more flexibility and ease than most athletes at their physical peak, these achievements at his age have only added another layer to his greatness. Djokovic is now the oldest Roland Garros singles champion in history at 36 years and 20 days. He has also won the last three grand slam tournaments he has contested – he did not travel to the US Open last year due to the United States banning unvaccinated visitors – compiling a 21‑match grand slam winning run.

Few people gave Ruud, the fourth seed, much of a realistic chance against the third seed Djokovic, but after contesting the French and US Open finals last season against Nadal and Carlos Alcaraz, Ruud knew what level it would take for him to match Djokovic in a grand slam final.

Ruud started the match vaporising his forehand as he took an early break, while Djokovic started the match poorly. He played passively while he sprayed forehands and missed overheads. The benefit of being Djokovic, though, is that he always has options. He dug in and he relied on his legs as he soaked up a series of stinging Ruud forehands before retrieving the early break.

Still, the Norwegian kept his head up. The decisive moment of the match came while he led 5-4 with Djokovic serving. Ruud opened the game with some inspirational play, including a successful tweener lob to lead 0-30. But at 5-4, 30-30, Ruud gifted a forehand error on an easy second serve return. Sensing Ruud’s tension, Djokovic pounced. He held serve, he forced a tiebreak and then he picked Ruud’s weaker backhand apart to take the set. “He just steps up,” Ruud said. “Either he plays ridiculous defence or he plays beautiful winners. Just doesn’t do any mistakes. He either lets you go for too much or he plays a beautiful winner.”

By the second set, the Serb’s nerves had evaporated. He dictated from inside the baseline, pulverising his forehand, and he continued to methodically break down Ruud’s backhand as he neutralised his serve. Djokovic controlled the contest until the end, patiently waiting for his moment to clinch the decisive break late in the third set before closing out one of the greatest successes of his career. After the final point, he collapsed to the ground before climbing up to his player box.

In recent years, Djokovic has repeatedly explained that his priorities have changed after so many years of success at all levels. Grand slam tournaments are what motivate him now. The past two weeks have been a comprehensive reflection of that approach. He spent much of the clay court season in poor shape, struggling with form and an elbow injury that forced him to withdraw from the Madrid Open. But with a historic grand slam title on the line he has met every challenge.

“He has this software in his head that he can switch when a grand slam comes,” said Goran Ivanisevic, Djokovic’s coach. “Grand slam is a different sport comparing to other tournaments. He switch his software. The day we arrived here, he was better, he was more motivated, he was more hungry.”

During his speech, Djokovic noted that since he was a young child his goals were always to win Wimbledon and be No 1 in the world. He has surpassed those goals more than 10 times over. While the No 1 ranking and grand slam titles used to be the ultimate goal for all aspiring players, this fading, unforgettable era of greatness with Djokovic, Serena Williams, Nadal and Federer has completely changed how people view success in the sport.

When young players state their goals these days, they often want to be the best of all time. That bar, 23 grand slam titles, is now in the stratosphere.
